honestly, brennan getting completely fooled by zac is so relatable to me because whenever I DM, all knowledge of dnd leaves my brain except for the basics. like I cannot for the life of me tell you what a spell does when I DM. my player's abilities are unknown to me. I am simply here to be fooled by my players

Just imagine how put out Dustin would be. He's spent months and months working on Steve, trying to get him to come and play. It had been a personal, ongoing campaign. He used every trick and manipulation and wasn't above just outright whining about it. All he asks is Steve try it; just once.
Just imagine how put out he is when Eddie gets out of the hospital, and he asks Steve one time, and Steve says yes. But of course Dustin can't complain OUT LOUD, because he got what he wanted, didn't he? Steve's going to play.
Dustin makes this as absolutely painless as possible; Steve doesn't even see his character sheet until it's done. Dustin has him roll for stats. They talk about race and class. They talk about what skills his character should have...but he doesn't go into detail. he wants to make this fun for Steve, so he lets Steve pick whatever the hell he wants and when Steve calls his gnome Trip Hazard, Dustin doesn't even bitch about it.
Dustin corners Eddie ten minutes before their one shot starts, and explicitly tells him to let Steve get away with absolutely any and all bullshit. The goal here is that Steve comes back.
Of course Dustin has no idea that Eddie has been making heart eyes at Steve for literally years and fully intends to do that, anyway.
It's a one off, so Eddie has some fun with it. He's generous with the XP and everyone has two levels before lunch, excitedly choosing new skills and spells. After a mini boss battle they come across a hoard of treasure; some of it magical.
It's a free for all and everyone walks away with a fun new powerful toy for their character; Eddie's even pre made little cards with illustrations, descriptions, and the magical abilities of each item. He does a whole array, more than they need, but everyone gets one thing each.
Steve, hilariously, chooses a seven foot spear.
Eddie holds it together and does not laugh. He lets Steve do whatever he wants, and when Steve has a moment of madness and acts out his tiny gnome suddenly getting his spear stuck in every single doorway, everyone looses their shit.
The final battle though, that evening, rapidly because serious; an acid spewing black dragon. Everyone rolls initiative. The Dragon, with advantage, goes first, and the battle goes back and forth for several turns before, "the great beast raises itself onto it's back legs, mighty wings spread, so massive they fill the cavern," Eddie climbs up on his chair, spreading his arms demonstrably, "the dragon draws in a mighty breath...Will the Wise, your move."
The party uses their turn to attack, moving their little people on the board appropriately. Steve's turn comes and everyone looks at him..."I'll, ah, move, I think."
"Attack Steve!" Dustin encourages him.
Steve moves his little gnome, with hilariously oversized cardboard accessory, to directly in front of the dragon, the air in the room grows heavy, intent, "no attack...I set to receive a charge."
Every turns to look at Eddie, who frowns down at the map.
"It's on here," Steve volunteers the little card that came with his spear. "This counts, right? Double damage because it's magic, then setting to receive a charge is double damage again..."
Everyone looks back to Eddie again who, solemnly, frowns...then nods.
The dragon unleashes it's attack, everyone in the party taking damage. The dragon falls forward, aiming to land on all of it's feet again.
"Does that...work?" Steve asks hesitantly.
Eddie nods. The damage is so great when Dustin works it out, they have to borrow dice from Will to combine with Dustin's so Steve can roll them all together. The combination enough to fill his cupped hands.
Steve kills the dragon. Everyone is up, screaming and cheering.
Steve is the only one to notice when Eddie rolls damage; Trip Hazard is instantly killed by the crushing force of a dragons corpse.
Steve doesn't care, especially not when Eddie gets real close to whisper in his ear, "that was so fucking clever, I'm furious."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
sometimes in life things don't go the rigth way, is what people say, they say "sometimes in life things don't go the way we want, but thats just how it is"
But right now it felt like absolutely nothing was going the right way, you felt like the whole world was against you, like you were some useless peace of garbage that could be thrown out at anytime, like there was no one in this damn world that would sit down and listen to your pityfull problems. you were at your abselut worst.
And the only thing that could help the with it was the razor in your hand, which is cutting your thigh. you move almost like a robot, you don't even feel the pain of the razor anymore. everything seems like a dream, all the blood coming out of your cuts and dripping and mixing in with the water of the bathtub, your vision being slightly blury.
You can feel your heart pounding in your chest as you bring your razor to your Radial vein. you shake slightly as you look down at your wrist debating if you should cut it or not.
As you start breathing faster you look at the suicide note you left on the chair next to the bathtub. you wondered how long it would take for chuuya to find you, would he even care if you died?
you feel tears start to run down your face and you start to sniffle uncontrollably.
As you're about to cut the vein you hear a loud knock on the door, "[name]? baby are you in there..?" your boyfriend chuuya asks in a quiet voice.
You quickly wipe your tears and panic a bit as you didn't lock the door since you weren't expectinc chuuya to come home this early, "Y-yeah.." you say trying to not sound sad, but knowing chuuya he most likely heard the saddnes in your voice.
"Darling.. is something wrong..?" He asks in a conserned voice, "i'm just.. washing my hair" you try to come up with an exuse while your whole body is shaking. "Darling, you washed your hair yestarday tho? are you really okay in there..?"
'Damn i forgot about that' you think while trying to find a place to hide the razor. While you panic you some how bump into the soaps and knock them down making a loud noise. "Baby are you okay? i'm coming in" he says and opens the door, "NO WAIT!" but before you can stop him, he has already opened the door and seen your cuts.
.....
.....
After a few moments of silence and staring at each other, chuuya finally makes a move closer to you.
"...Chuuya.. please i'm sorr-.." You try to explain but your voice starts to shake and you feel a lump in your throat. "...shh.." He quitelly walks closer to you and wipes the small tears that have started to for in your eyes.
"...I'm so sorry.. i k-know i said i'd.. try to stay clean for you.. i tried my best.. i swear.. i'm sorry.. please.. p-please don't get mad.." You sob as more and more tears start falling from your eyes. Your vision is starting to blur from all the tears, so much so that you can't even see chuuya anymore.
"....shh... darling.. i would never be mad at you.. what could ever make you think that..? i understand how hard it is to recover from something like this.." He whispers into your ear while holding you close, not even caring about the blood staining his clothes.
All you can do is cry and cry, you cant even manage to answer his question, all that came out if your mouth were pityfull sobs and 'i'm so sorry'. Chuuyas shoulder was becoming wet form all the tears but he didn't mind, he would do anything just so that you could feel better.
After some time of Chuuya trying to comfort you and trying to get you to tell what happened, did you finally calm down slightly, just enough for you to able to answer his questions.
....
Chuuya starts washing your cuts gently, you both sit there in silence with the only sound beinf your small sniffles and some small choked sobs.
After a few seconds chuuya decides to break the slience, "..Darling, please.. what happened that made you relapce..?" he asks with a gentle tone while holding your shaking hands in his. For a moment you stay slient, wiping your tears. "...i... i-i've...", you say in a shaky voice trying to break out into a crying mess again. Right at this moment you didn't know what to say, you really didn't know how to say what made you do it.
"...take your time..", Chuuya's soft voice snaps you out of your trance, you feel his thumbs rubbing on top of your hands in a comforting way.
"...its hard to say.... i-i don't know how to put it into words..", you whisper, hoping chuuya wouldn't be mad. You're scared he'll be mad at your answer, scared he'll force you to talk, force you like your mother would always do. You remember the first time you relapsed she got mad and forced you to talk, even when you were crying.
"..thats fine.. its not always easy to put something like this into words.." Chuuya caressed your back in a comforting way, making you want to just cry, cry so hard and let everything out, everything that has been bothering you, all your worries and troubles. You felt so comfortable in his arms, like you were safe. "would writing it help?", he asks and runs his fingers through your hair.
You burry your face in his neck and nod, feeling him pick you up and carry you over to your bedroom. He gently puts you on the bed and you slightly whine from the stinging pain that came from your cuts, holding back your tears. '..i'm sucha an idiot..' you think while watching chuuya leave the room to go get paper.
....
Chuuya comes back after some time with a piece of paper and a pen. He gives you the stuff and sits down next to you while waiting for you to write on the paper.
You sit there for a second before starting to write about how you've been feeling really insecure about yourself and thinking that you arent enough for him and that he should be with someone else. Once you're done writing you hesitate to give the paper back to chuuya for a bit, but you decide to just do it.
Once its in Chuuyas hands, you look away embaressed about the thngs you wrote, hoping he wouldn't judge you for it.
After a bit of silence, chuuya finally says something, "Darling.. why didn't you tell me..? i could've helped you feel better.." He says quietly and you just look down ashamed feeling like everything is your fult. You knew you should have told him, maybe then you wouldn't be in so much pain at the moment.
You felt like you were about to cry again, you felt weak. You just wanted to lay down and forget about the world around you.
"...i was scared.. i'i was so scared you'd be mad at me..." Your voice breaks as you try to explain everything to him. Chuuya sit there with you in his arms listening to you with a worried look on his face.
"...darling i would never hate you.. you're the most important person in my life, i would never be mad at you for relapcing.." He says while stroking your hair and rocking back and forth slowly. you hug him tight, like your scared he'll be gonne once you let go of him.
For the rest of the night chuuya keeps you in his arms while he comforts you and tells you how much he loves you.
I might be wrong but I figured you'd be the person to ask: Someone in a Discord server I'm in was talking about the "popular fanon idea of Cass learning ASL and sometimes preferring it to speech." And I... don't think this is fanon? Doesn't she canonically know ASL? I know she learned English and (I believe) Mandarin but I'm almost positive there are also lots of canon instances of her signing.
Okay so I'm going to split this ask into two questions:
Does Cass know American Sign Language (ASL), canonically?
Could Cass learn ASL?
The answer to #1 is no, Cass doesn't canonically know ASL to my knowledge (caveat: this does not, apparently, apply to the Young Justice cartoon universe; Cassandra Wu-San does appear to know some form of legitimate sign language). Canon!Cass, on the other hand, knows some basic signs and does use them, but it's more charades, 'loud gesturing,' and basic hand signals than it is ASL. The reasons Cass knowing ASL is such a popular fanon misperception are rather complex, but it largely comes down to two things: misunderstanding how ASL works and misunderstanding what Cass's disability actually is.
ASL isn't just some fancy hand gestures that translate one-to-one into spoken English; that would be "baby sign" or spell signing at best. ASL is a language, with all of the complex grammar, vocabulary, syntax, and sentence structure that implies. It takes years of learning and immersion to understand, learn, and utilize properly, just like any other language. Treating it as anything else is a form of ableism.
Someone like Cass who has difficulty processing language is going to have just as much trouble learning ASL as she would English, Mandarin, or any other language, because her problem isn't that she just "doesn't know English." Cass's disability is not that she can't read or communicate verbally: it's that her brain is literally built different because of how Cain raised her, and that affects how she processes language (and thus how she communicates with other people):
Tumblr media
"David Cain…had some unusal ideas about combat. He experimented with infants. Trained them in isolation and deprived them of human speech. The goal was to adapt the language center of the brain to interpret physical movement as a language. She can…read you. Your body. That's why she understands what you're saying when she doesn't know the words. It's why in combat, she knows what you're going to do before you do it." -Batgirl (2000) #1
Tumblr media
"The language centers of your brain are all over both hemispheres. Not centralized like with most people. When you try to read or write, your brain doesn't know how to keep it cohesive. But the good news is--you can learn. It's just a matter of figuring out how." -Batgirl #67
It's actually specified somewhere (I don't have the panel on hand, unfortunately) that she doesn't know sign language; Cain wanted her to read natural body language and nuance, not artificial hand gestures. Cass's primary "language" (and thus form of communication) until her brain was semi-rewired was body language.
But body language isn't actually a language; it's a form of non-verbal communication that functions through the (largely subconscious) 'reading' of both conscious and unconscious physical movement. Cass's childhood and training simply elevated that ability to ridiculous heights:
Tumblr media
"A special ability to predict my opponent's moves. That doesn't begin to describe it. Time...ran together. The future...blending...into the moment. A blink of an eye...the knife thrust that follows...both one. It was like...like I could predict my opponent's moves. Okay, that does describe it. But it doesn't do it justice. All this knowledge. No substitute for knowing." -Batgirl (2000) #7
We see explicitly how this ability plays out on several occasions throughout her Batgirl run and the Detective Comics Rebirth run, and it's pretty clear she's reading subconscious feelings, thoughts, and movement, not language:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cass absolutely communicates via hand gestures before and after Batgirl #4, but it's not any form of cohesive language, much less ASL. It's effectively advanced charades mixed with some universal non-verbal gestures:
Tumblr media
"You don't speak any language, do you? Except violence." -Detective Comics (1937) #734
Tumblr media
"Is he giving you any trouble?" *Cass flaps her hand to indicate the guy is a blabbermouth* "Got you. He talks too much." -Batman: Family (2002) #7
Tumblr media
*Cass gestures to Jason's heart, Tim's mind, and Dick's voice to indicate she understands how they work as a team*-Batman and Robin Eternal (2015) #3
People learning a English as a second language already have an understanding of how language works, but Cass doesn’t have that foundation. Her primary language isn't sign language, it's body reading. Thus, she struggles to speak, read, and write in English not because it's a different language than she's used to communicating with but because it's the first actual language she's ever learned. Fanon largely projects ASL fluency onto Cass because they fundamentally don't understand how her abilities work (and thus don't understand how her disability works either).
Does Cass have the ability to learn ASL? Absolutely! Would ASL be a really cool way of depicting Cass communicating with other people and an interesting way to showcase language learning difficulties and communication disabilities in the visual medium that is comics? Absolutely! I would actually be genuinely thrilled if canon and the fandom actually worked with what a physical, visual-based language like ASL might mean for Cass's ability to communicate given her childhood training. But as it stands, "Cass knowing ASL" is a well-meaning but misguided fanon attempt to showcase inclusivity while being...well, frankly kind of offensive.
(As for why she would theoretically "know" Mandarin, it's a product of the incredibly racist and ableist writing that defined the "Evil Cass Era." This culminated in DC putting her on a bus and shipping her off to Hong Kong because "Asian girl knows Asian languages, right? Brilliant! Send her off!" while ignoring literally everything about Cass ever. She's never actually shown speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, or any other dialect of Chinese on-panel, but we can reasonably infer she probably picked up SOME level of comprehension while living there.)
Nico Di Angelo x Son of Hecate ☾
Pairing(s): Nico Di Angelo x M!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nico was certainly a new face in the crowd but you never really ever interacted with him.
That is, until you’re forced into a mini adventure with him on part of the seven
It’d be a lie to say that you didn’t even have an ounce of attraction to him but that stayed unsaid
Of course after that favor for your mutual friends your path just… faded i guess
You only ever saw him around camp and you’d often steal a glance
Which you weren’t aware of at the time, but he was too
It’d probably be weeks maybe months later that you ran into him again, this time he had only approached you to ask you something .
That something being your necromancy and umbrakinesis ability
It started off with him approaching you at the campfire, the pavilion, then just from then on
I mean because of how often he’d approach you, ever curious on your powers, the two of you got close
Sitting next to each other or just being seen together became common
Still didn’t stop other campers from talking 👀
If anything, you’d just discuss abilities and compare but eventually conversations got off topic-
More personal.
It wasn’t until a camp bonfire after a particular capture the flag that you had noticed Nico not there
It didn’t take you long to find him but once you did you sat next to him, oddly enough he was by the lake
The two of you sat there and to be completely honest, it felt like forever but with the loud silence you chose to speak
You confessed your feelings
You always knew you would eventually , might as well blurt them out now
You saw an expression never worn by Nico before, and that was one of shock
He was genuinely shocked and all he could do was nod his head in agreement
Thus, how you confessed your feelings to one another has ended now let’s speak on the actual relationship
You, a mysterious witchy silent person (atleast how others perceive you)
And Nico, again, mysterious silent and emo (?)
Well I’m trying to say it wasn’t much of a surprise that you two began dating
Once the news spread (which would’ve been later since you’re both very private) everyone was either, not surprised since you both acted like it
Or absolutely shocked because of how mysterious you two were
No in between
As your relationship progresses acts of physical affection become the norm and aren’t foreign anymore
So once you introduced Nico to your cabin (I hc the Hecate cabin as having few residents) it was a relief to have it to yourselves
Lou was not at camp this time around, and luckily, neither was any of your siblings
Many people were afraid to get close to the Hecate cabin if the outer was being disturbed, I mean no one wants to get Thalia’d but surprisingly Nico didn’t mind
Once you entered the entire theme of the Hecate cabin, if anything, encouraged Nico to ask questions
I mean, you two got along so well, probably because of how similar your powers were or
Yknow what? Who cares
All that was on your mind was the fact that Nico was icy cold (which was normal but still)
You caught Nico’s attention once more when you began speaking in Ancient Greek
Only did it dawn on him that you were muttering a heating spell
He always refused to use that spell (you always told yourself that it’s cuz he wanted to hold you and soak in your body heat, which was probably you just being delusional 🫠)
Regardless, the night goes without a hitch and you two get closer than ever
Now, Nico is aware of a lot of disturbing things beyond death
But for some reason, you asking if you can read his palm/ try and get his birth chart, disturbs him even more
Luckily if you’re not wildy crazy then he’ll go along without a bother
(If u beg then he’ll say no a few times just to let ask after a few more times as if his first “no” wasn’t his version of yes)
Anyway
If you find out your horoscopes or something match up (idk how these things work 😓) you decide to be a little prankster and say sum shit like “we were written in the stars”
Of course Nico thinks this is so horribly cringe but he smiles regardless
Plus he has to endlessly deal with your bs
Especially when he walks into your cabin and sees you making a concoction of sorts w ur cauldron
Yea sometimes he questions why he even dated you
He thinks this as if he wasn’t cuddled up to you like a kitten the night before 😿
-
I love this req because I, myself, am a Hecate kid 😼
Hello, Kai, really interested in knowing the relationship of sumeru characters and diluc. Also, fontaine characters too (those who we know/already meet)
I think that Navia and Diluc have some stuff in common... I think
This is my first time asking you, so please ignore mistakes
Tumblr media
Hello! Welcome! And don't worry about mistakes my brain has this really nice autocorrect feature called dyslexia so about 70% of the time I don't any grammar or spelling errors. But it back fires a lot. Kind of like regular autocorrect. ANY WAY. I would kind of love to talk about this.
SUMERU
Al Haitham
So I do enjoy shipping Diluc and Al Haitham because well they would just absolutely vibe together. Defiantly a lot of autism to autism communication. They are also both they type of people who can work or do separate activates right next to each other and come away saying they really like each other and the other is a good person.
Like their relationship could be them hardly speaking to each other but they just genuinely enjoy company and having someone understand on different level.
Candace
So I firmly think she (and Dehya for that matter) would look at Diluc and go "baby"
She's a protector and would in a small way equate Diluc to a little prince or knight. And I think if she learned about Diluc's family history she might feel a common ground there. And she'd defiantly pick up on how young, but accomplished he is. Just generally he'd kick in her protective instincts. SPECIALLY SINCE HE'D BE A VERY RESPECTFULLY GOOD BOY.
Cyno
Honestly I think Diluc would really enjoy Cyno's jokes. Not to the point where he'd laugh out loud but defiantly remark about how funny and clever it is. And Cyno just get the glint in his eyes that Collei and Tighnari fear.
I've also had them together in The Teyvat Detective Club Because they have strong senses of right and wrong with focuses on justice and retribution. So I kind of think out of everyone in Sumeru Diluc and Cyno would be the closest as friends.
Collei
So I believe Diluc know of Collie. Lisa does tell him about her progress and he's got a silent investment and pride. But he doesn't really think he need to introduce himself. She doesn't need to know that he cause the distraction and took the blame for her accident. But he's always extra gentle with her.
For Collei's part she probably is just amazed by Diluc and how gentle and calming his presence is. With Tighnari she's probably been told to be very careful with Pyro vision, but she doesn't see the Choatic side of Diluc. Diluc reminds her a lot of a camp fire, a warm relaxing. She probably see him as an exemplar of what Knights are supposed to be based off of what Amber has told her.
And I think if she learned about his involvement in helping her and who he too hate the fatui and has suffered at their hands. She'd cry.
Dehya
As a Claymore Pyro, (on standard) I think Dehya already feel a connection. And she would love swapping stories with him until she realizes how young he is.
And then she'd probably ask about how he keeps his skin looking so nice. He would shrug and just say he washes regularly.
Then it hits her
He's not even 25 yet he's barely 23.
Big sister mode kicks in and she picks him up toss him over her shoulder. This her now. her little brother and if anything happen to him she will kill everyone and then herself.
Dori
So these two are probably the ones most likely to have canon interaction. And Dori has absolutely tried to sell counterfeit dandelion wine.
And well.
Dori has probably the personally see Diluc's pretty close to bottomless assets. The ability to by like what was it 2000? fake Breath of Barbatos. Either way she sees him as someone she can't really cross without facing a lose in some way, and he's not one who she can trick. So she admires him in some way for how he's added to his family's wealthy but also in some was see him as a rival for having family wealthy and still being a good businessman.
Faruzan
Diluc actually calls her Madam and gives her the elder respect that she asks for. So she loves him and probably has tried to get him to become a student specially since I do think Diluc would have an interests in linguistics particularly in syphers and codes.
She probably would be his got to for such things relating to machines and langue. And honestly Diluc would personally fund her projects seeing that her lines and interests in blending fields of study could have long term good effects for everyone.
Kaveh
So I'm a big Kavehluc person.
And Kaveh would instantly see Diluc's beauty and just fall head over heels and just progressively get worst because he'd see Diluc on top of being beautiful is one of the gentlest and sweetest people he's every meet. Kaveh would admire him because he just gives himself and knows when to hold back with out feeling any of the guilt that Kaveh struggles with.
And even if you don't ship them I feel they would get along as Kaveh feels he could learn something from Diluc.
Layla
So Diluc's not an astrology person. But I feel he's treat Layla the same was he does Sucrose. He would be extra gentle and try to subtly build up Layla's confidences. Which would put him in high regards in "other" Layla's book.
If he meet them both he would tries his best to meet the real Layla which he thinks is some point in-between day and night time Layla.
Nahida
Not give a single shit she's an archon.
That's a baby.
And Diluc has a biiiiiiig soft spot for children. Defiantly respects her wisdom but defiantly is in big bro mode.
Nilou
RED HEADS.
But I get the feeling that Nilou is like Amber and that she has a "grump" translator. Meaning when Diluc says something that might come across as "Blunt" at best She instantly knows what he means. And she instantly knows how kind and sweet he is.
There defiantly is at small group of Nilou, Dehya, Diluc, and Candace all swapping skin, hair and general beauty tips.
Tighnari
So Tighnari is the Sumeru Rep of the Bully the Fatui Brigade. And I think Tighnari would eventually learn what Diluc did for Collie. So There is a lot of respect between them. And A lot of low key chaos
A little Less when Tighnari learns Diluc acutely like Cyno's Jokes.
Wanderer
I'm not really a fan. But I feel like Diluc wouldn't be intimated by Wanderer at all. And Wanderer would be super duper leery knowing about Diluc's past.
But Diluc doesn't remember Wander but Wander would be sort of curious about this side of the feared Fatui hunter. Defiantly would probably try to get one his good side for his own revenge related reason. Enemy of my enemy all that.
FONTAINE
Colrinde
So there isn't a lot info on her yet for me to make a call. But I feel they would have a generally positively sort of respectful relationship. Not a lot more tho.
Freminet
Into the kid collection he goes. He likes all his kids Diluc would be extremely gently and patient with Ferminet. Defiantly giving him claymore tips and probably even recommending he talk to Eula because there could be lines crossed between swimming and dancing that could be used to help him.
Diluc probably has a general soft spot for Cyro users just because of Keaya so ya know.
Furina
So consider she's just Fischl on steroids. Diluc would probably end up treating her like he does Fischl. Just gently playing into what makes her happy but also drawing clear lines when she's over stepping or about to overstep.
Diluc already has experience pulling in his archon, and given his own sense of justice I feel he and Furina would generally get along great up untill he wounds her pride, but he'd only every do it when she's being too much.
Neuvillette sings Diluc's praises for this.
Lynette
Just like with Al Haitham.
Autism to Autism communication.
Lynette would be totally see similarities between Diluc and Lyney as they are both brother would try and take all the burden away from their siblings and do everything they can protect them. So Lynette would look out for Diluc probably ends up giving Kaeya a care list for Diluc because I totally think she has one for how she takes care of Lyney when he's not looking. Not to her suprise Kaeya already has one.
Lyney
OK OK OK.
Lyney and Diluc are generally the more calm and collected end of the Pyro spectrum. But I get the feeling they both would just bring out their inner Chaos.
Like Yeah both Lyney and Lynette have heard about Diluc's Fatui Hunting. But I also think that Diluc would have tried to liberate House of Hearth and find better places for Kids. If not give them more supplies and more of a childhood. Because the he would learn of the House of Hearth and I think It's where Diluc would start to waiver on his conviction which would lead to him seeing how his method wasn't working.
So despite being Fatui Diluc would still treat them well and I feel he'd love Lyney's stage magic and learning all the tricks. It would be a puzzle game between them Lyney performs a trick and Diluc tries to figure out how he did it.
Navia
So Navia I feel could probably be the best candidate to be add to the detective club.
And there would be a lot of trauma bonding with her and Diluc over losing their father before taking up their mantles. So again I feel Diluc would provide funding to Spina di Rosula specially since the info they gain could be usfull to the Detective club or Diluc's underground organization.
Navia might even be an apprentice to Diluc but I acutely sort of get the vibe that she's older, but she's still have a lot of respect for his experience and general attitude. while he admires her passion for doing what is right and seeking the truth against all odds.
Neuvillette
So I've already seen art of Diluc and Neuvillette together and they are like super cute and chill vibes.
Like I don't have the best grip on Neuvillette yet but I feel like he and Diluc would get along in that they generally are pretty vibing but at the same time Neuvillette could learn a lot form Diluc as Diluc's passion for justice as well as being a generally passionate person would give Neuvillette a lot more perspective while not overwhelming him.
But also that leak about the Dark knight hero line. It would add a lot of spicy and also questions to the realtionship
Sigewinne
New daughter.
That's all I got mostly because see below.
Wriothesley
Look man this is gonna be my new addition to the Diluc Harem. Like I just get the gay Jane Austin Vibes from these two. Like if you want regency romance Wrioluc will be your thing. But that's just the vibe I'm picking up right now. I am super excited to learn more.
🕸PICK A DRAWING🕸
🐞what are your psychic abilities🐞
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎱 Intuitive read if you feel drawn to a pile it’s for a reason 🎱
Pile 1.
Clairaudience; you might hear sounds often or as if someone was calling your name when no one’s there , you might receive downloads from spirit through other people so for ex; you’re talking to someone about a certain situation and then this persons response feels like a message from above, it’ll probably be an answer or something you needed to hear or something that really resonates with you. You also receive messages in music from certain lyrics or certain lines in a movie you’ll know it’s for you because you can just feel it. You might feel like you can communicate with animals probably know what they’re thinking or feeling, you also might talk to yourself a lot and gain a lot of wisdom from those conversations because spirit is talking through you, you also might be the friend that offers a lot of good advice and seem to always say the things they need to hear, certain noises might really aggravate you as well since you’re very sensitive to sounds. You’re known to be really good listeners with your friends and family. You might hear really loud pitch ringing in your ears that’s a sign they’re trying to communicate with you. Very creative and love music as well.
Pile 2.
This is my clairvoyant pile, you might’ve seen spirits, shadow figures, or had those “imaginary” friends you’d see and talk to all the time when you were a child, you might be able to channel the spirits you see and communicate with them, you possibly can see other peoples spirit guides or spirit animals sometimes , you might also see auras, you can also see deep into people like they might always say to you “I feel like you’re looking deep into my soul” and in this case you probably are, they don’t have to tell you much about themselves but you can already pick up on a couple things that they might’ve gone through, you also might get a lot of messages or visions in your dreams probably have prophetic dreams that end up occurring in real life. You could use scrying mirrors or crystal balls to see visions or spirits.
Pile 3.
Clairsentience; very empathetic you can feel others emotions as if they were you own and might drain you a lot or feel heavy. Even if people seem okay you can feel there’s more underneath the surface they’re hiding, even if you haven’t spoken to a person all day you might even pick up on their energy from a far and be able to know something is wrong with them feels as if you should reach out and check on them. You might grow to be very emotionally intelligent over time since you’ve had to feel and read everyone’s emotions and you’ve become very hyper vigilant due to it, you might be treated as a therapist because of your emotional intelligence you just know what they’re feeling and how to get them out of that state. You can feel the energy shift in a room or if you might go somewhere you will have a gut feeling that something bad is about to happen and it usually does. You have a feeling things are going to happen before they do , you can always FEEL the truth even if not shown or expressed by others, it is very hard to lie to you because you have really good intuition and usually know the intentions of others simply through their “vibe/energy”.
Pile 4.
This pile is more for my manifesters or witches, you might do spell work, I see you probably working with herbs or candles. This can also apply for my manifesters because since you believe so much in your powers or abilities your manifestations come to life easily or your spells always work. This pile loves all things occult wise, tarot, divination etc. you might’ve always been drawn to it and are probably really good at it and that’s probably what you use to communicate with your guides. You might like to enchant or set intentions on things you wear or own, you could also use oils to attract certain things or if you haven’t then this is your sign to start doing it because you have a higher chance of it working for you since the key ingredient for anything to work is “believing” and I feel as you easily have faith it’ll work so it does. You might attract whatever it is you want easily with affirmations since your words are powerful.
---------------Malleus Draconia----------------------------- -Called him Tsunotarou/Hornton for the longest time -Vil,surprisingly, told me his actual name -despite being a ghost who’s supposed to reside and be found mostly in his own wing, he’s actually mostly founded in the woods outside my house -i did some digging to this guy and all i see are legends -malleus was cruel and cunning individual -he ruled the land with a iron fist and would punish anyone getting in his way -i asked him about it to which he only made him said -”even now stories. The only history they see of me is only filled with blood and brimstone” -he tells his own story and the many names he has been called. -over the years even after death, people seek any means into destroying him   -i asked him what made him bite the dust (and then explaining that i'm asking him how he died as he doesn't know who Queen is.) -he told me he placed a curse on these grounds which cost him his life -whatever ritual he did permanently made him part of this castle of a wing -though,especially after what happened to my door, i don’t underestimate the guy -but he acts like a complete and total sweet heart -unlike azul who half of the time he’s most likely faking, he’s completely genuine -but i would say. Possessive should be his middle name -literally would not like for me to leave at all -i sometimes accidentally overhear conversations between lilia and him about some diabolical plans to lock me away or finding out some elaborate way to get an attachment. -i’m hoping still i don’t have to figure out what he’s like when he doesn't get his way (Aka; me not consenting to have an attachment.)
-----------------------Silver------------------------------ -that explains why there’s so much wildlife -something about this guy literally makes him the embodiment of every disney princess -he’s also a little sleeping beauty -not only he has a pretty face but, he’s prolonged to sleep spells -he says he always had this problem as long as he could remember -he sometimes pops out of nowhere and i blame lilia and malleus for this behavior -an illness is what got him unfortunately -he’s also very sweet. -he protects me from lilia’s cooking(forever grateful) -silver also comes to me for advice as lilia,unlike everyone else here, keeps up with modern times -i had to become his personal google translator so he can understand his father lilia -he’s also almost as gullible as kalim -I just happen to idly spin my broom stick around and now Silver thinks I know my way around weapons,specifically a sword. -he had a desire to train with me one day -i asked him what killed him and he told me he got caught with a plague -i felt bad for him for he’s genuinely pretty sweet -terrible way to go down that’s for sure -he told me that lilia saved his life with a last minute attachment,by choice, which allowed him to become a ghost -”sebek and others though i recovered fully due to this no knowing the truth that i was just a ghost like lord malleus and sir lilia”
------------Sebek Zigvolt------------------------------------ -loud -ill tempered -borderline racist -has a high distance for humans which is ironic to say the least -bost about his abilities often and love to talk about malleus -he is super smart and knows a lot in terms of core subjects -he actually doesn't walk around with that heavy armor 24/7 -very protective of his master and idolized him -i did ask him how he pasted which got him boating how he was slain by the hands of his master -i said i was sorry and he got angry and said “Being slain by Wakasama is the greatest honor a warrior could achieve” -i played along and apologize -he’s strong and often helps me with cleaning and arranging things -he expressed great happiness when i gifted him a old painting of malleus(who i bought from sam) -aside from the usual complaining and worshiping the grounds that malleus walks across, he’s really……obsessed with my demise -half of the time i can’t comprehend if he hates me or wants me to become a ghost like them -i mean i’m human and he doesn't like me much but he always is present and advocates with any idea on how to get me to turn into one of them…
--------Lilia Vanrouge------------------------------- -a cryptic old man with the personality and body of a young man in his early twenties - i also feel like he really wants me dead, yet he treats me like he’ve been best friends for the longest time -likes to tell interesting stories of his youth and his time with malleus -he actually gains a camera at some point in time and took pictures which weren’t half bad. -there is a painting somewhere in this wing were a old full body portrait of lilia back when he was army general(still tying to find but he keeps actively moving the dang painting 😤) -based on this i can confidently assume that they have been alive for over 700 years -he said i wasn't far off yet never elaborated further -he makes many,and i mean many, attempts to make me feel comfortable in the Diasomnia wing -this involves in locking me in the wing possibly taking the same idea from jamil’s attempts -bats sometimes flutter around him which ended up being one more creature to take care of -for some odd reason he’s more connected to modern day news ,topics and trends. -he has requested to have a laptop but the way the wing is set up, he has to used electrical outlets from other wings -which then he elightens me of the capacity of the ghost that resides here -this is when i figured out about their paranormal magic and energy usage -this explains on how malleus was able to travel to the woods outside the main house and how some ghost actual know each other -for example leona,who hates him, and vil knows about malleus
An oracle does not dream.
News of the birth of the Liyue imperial family's second child reached not far beyond the high walls of the palace. Under the eclipse of the sun outside, a princess was born and wrapped in a blanket after the blood was cleaned from her body.
"It's a princess, Your Majesty!"
Carrying her child in her arms, the Empress then turned to the so-called oracle. He had been the one to recite fortune-telling on the fortunes of the imperial family's newborn babies, a tradition they had passed down each time there was a new addition to the family. Under her gaze, the person advanced toward the newborn princess.
His hand rested on the forehead of the still crying baby. He closed his eyes, his lips pursed into incoherent words that could either be spells or prayers to bless the newborn. They waited for the oracle to say his prediction.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he had an expression that the Empress hated so much. He lowered his hands, tucked them into the sleeves of his traditional hanfu while holding back his silence. His eyes glanced at the newborn for a while as if composing a sentence before saying something he didn't expect would bring him to his doom.
"From my prediction, the Princess will go through many misfortunes during her lifetime, Your Majesty." He said quietly.
However, from the silence of the room, those who were still there could hear him even though he tried to hide it. They gasped, whispering about how he dared to say that. Even if he hadn't lied, he should have saved his life—because now, Her Majesty's glare landed on him.
"What did you say?" The Empress wasn't asking for a repeat but, a last chance at life for him.
The oracle bit his lower lip, "..the Princess will have misfortune—"
"How dare you to wish my newborn daughter such bad things!" Her loud voice echoed, not caring if she made her baby cry worse.
"N-no! That's not it, Your Majesty! I was just relaying my prediction!"
Whatever his defense was, it was too late as the Empress only saw red. There was nothing she wanted but this oracle to be dragged and hung from his tongue. With one flick of her finger, the guard guarding the corner of the room carried out her orders.
The Princess' first misfortune was the death of someone from talking about her.
Not only was the Empress reluctant to accept the prophecy of the dead oracle, she was also reluctant to admit that it had influenced her mind. Therefore, once a week her daughter named (Y/N) gets a ritual that is believed to wash away her sins and misfortunes—at least until it is proven that the prophecy could not be further from the truth.
At an age when you can string enough sentences to communicate with other people, you begin to tell the dream you had after sleeping. Which, coincidentally or not, always came true soon after.
You proved something about yourself.
One night, the old oracle came by order of Emperor Sile. The guard assigned to pick him up immediately took him to the room where you and your parents were waiting. He greets, then glances at you sitting at the end of his bed and notices something.
"Congratulations, Your Majesties! The Princess is definitely an oracle with the ability to see the future!" He said loudly.
Emperor Sile raised his eyebrows, turning to his wife as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing. "The ability to see the future?"
"That's right, Your Majesty. Her Highness has been blessed by the gods and is entrusted with this ability."
The Empress brought her daughter closer to her, "So, the dream she was telling me all along was actually the future she managed to see?"
The old oracle nodded, "That's right, Your Majesty," He looked up, "or if I may say so, oracle doesn't have the ability to dream like an ordinary human."
Hearing this, the Empress let out a scoff while stroking the top of your head. "And that dead oracle dared to say that my (Y/N)’s life would be full of misfortune." She said triumphantly. If possible, your mother would like to spit in his face.
After the old oracle left the room, the Emperor knelt down to align his face with yours. The color of your beautiful eyes that glittered in the pale moonlight, one of the features you inherited from your mother besides the color of her hair. He thinks its unfair that none of his children inherit his black hair, luckily Shiva got his eyes.
"You hear that, Baobei? You are an oracle. You will predict everything about this empire and lead us to another century of our glory."
You bit your finger which was then gently brushed away by your mother. "Would you like it if I did that?" You ask, your eyes widening with curiosity as you wait for an answer from the smiling emperor.
"Of course. You will become the most precious treasure in this empire." He takes you in his arms.
News of you becoming an oracle and being given a miracle to see into the future was considered by the Emperor and Empress to be a blessing. You become a weapon to predict what will happen in the ongoing war. Therefore, they always remind you to tell them whatever ‘dreams’ you saw.
An oracle does not dream.
The words repeated like a spell, seeped in and settled in your head.
The ability to see the future develops later. You no longer just get clues about what will happen in your sleep, you can even suddenly receive visions when you are sitting or touching someone's head. But, somehow as you progress, your misfortunes seem to spread like the roots of a banyan tree.
Your father really made you an imperial weapon by bringing you to the frontline. As if he didn't care if his daughter was more familiar with the smell of rancid blood than flowers, he did it over and over—claiming it was for Liyue's victory.
So is it worth the little fright you feel every time you hear a loud noise?
Such a contrast knowing a princess who grew up in a palace, lived in a place guaranteed to be free of shards and nails, is now on a battlefield where people risk their lives to kill each other. Plus, you are really treated as a strategist here.
No matter how many drops of blood drip from your nose from exhaustion, the Emperor will always find a way for you to endure it.
Because you’re the key to Liyue's victory, because only you can cheat fate.
Contrary to what your parents believed to be a blessing, in reality this is your second misfortune. At a young age, instead of being familiar with tea parties and dolls, you have memories of corpses strewn on the ground as gifts you can't get rid of.
Until one day, your father took you to Liyue's second capital—Morax—after taking over another territory. After a long journey, the horse carriage you both were in stopped at a large house. The building was luxurious enough that at one glance, you infer the possibility of a Duke inhabiting it.
Your father was the first to come out. He holds you by his side while the guards take up formation. As you approach, you can see the figures of two figures who have been waiting even before the carriage arrives—a man your father's age and a boy who appears to be two or three years older than you.
"We greet His Majesty the Emperor and Her Highness Princess (Y/N). May prosperity and health always be upon you." The man bowed respectfully and was mirrored by the child beside him.
The Emperor turned to you, "(Y/N), this is Duke Zhen Xiang and his son, Zhongli." At the mention of the latter's name, you set your sights on the boy. "If I'm not mistaken, Zhongli is your age."
My age? You thought.
Observing Zhongli, you notice that he has brown hair color with golden tips. Amber eyes with golden pupils instead of black. He wore traditional Liyuean clothes that were more luxurious than people, no wonder since he was the son of a duke.
"Say hello, Baobei." Your father told you.
You subconsciously gripped the side of hanfu. “Hello." You thumped, afraid that your father would reprimand you like your mother every time you stuttered.
But the anger didn't exist and instead was replaced with Zhongli who returned the greeting. "Welcome to our humble abode, Your Majesty." He is very polite even though he looks younger than Shiva (who often fails in manners class).
The Emperor let out a laugh, "Zhongli, how about you giving my daughter a little tour around the house? Your father and I have a lot to discuss."
The suggestion (which was actually an order) was agreed by Zhongli with a nod. "Your Majesty, allow me to do the honor of taking you around." He reached out while looking into your eyes, adorning his calm face with a faint smile.
Surprisingly, once you compare this duchy with the palace you live in, you find this place more comfortable and lively. Although not bigger and wider, the caretaker makes sure to put flowers on several sides of the room. You don't know how to put it but, if they offered to exchange the palace for this, you wouldn't object.
You turn your head when you think you hear something, "What’s that noise?"
Zhongli stopped walking for silence which gave him a chance to listen too. His amber eyes lit up as he knew exactly what and which creature was making a low 'meow' sound.
"My cats." He answered.
You turn your head quickly almost assuring him you're going to get whiplash from it. "Cats? You have cats?”
“Yes,” Zhongli noticed the curiosity in your eyes. “Would you like to see it, Your Highness?”
Your lips were bitten from doubt. In the back of your head rang your mother's voice saying that animals are dirty and disease-carrying every time you want to pet the imperial guard dog. Luckily, Zhongli had eyes sharp enough to catch that, then stretched out his hand like he did earlier.
"I'm sure Your Highness will like them."
You looked up to meet his eyes. "Will.. will they bring disease to me?" You ask and then regret it when you realize it has the potential to offend him.
However, instead of being gloomy, Zhongli chuckled. "I assure you my pet is cared for in the best possible way."
“I'm sorry,” you almost mumbled before getting a little louder, “I didn't mean to offend you. It's just, my mother always says that every time I ask for a pet."
"You didn't offend anyone." He said, glancing at the hand you haven't yet taken. "I won't force the Princess if you don't want to."
Hastily you put your hand on his. He smiles, cupping it before leading you to a door. The room that is now open to you is filled with about three cats. As he says, they look clean and well-groomed.
“They're so cute!”
You let go of Zhongli's hand to run to the gray fur cat. As if knowing you are a guest of its master, it rubs its head against your dress, scaring you a little at first, but subsides when you know it means no harm.
“Would you like to pet them?” Zhongli offers.
You looked up at him, "Is it okay?"
"Of course."
After getting his permission, you slowly use your index finger to stroke the cat's fur. You gasp from how soft it feels against your skin. Once it's comfortable and confirming it won't bite, you stroke it with the palm of your hand.
“O-oh! It made a purrrrr sound!!”
Zhongli laughed at your attempt to imitate his pet. "Her name is Ming Ming." He says.
Your cheeks lift as a smile spreads across your face. "Hi, Ming Ming!"
The brunette pointed at another cat who started to approach you because it wanted to be petted too. "This one is Chen, this is Po." He mentioned the names of the white and brown cats.
“They are all so cute!”
Zhongli couldn't miss how your face lit up from happiness, replacing the gloomy expression that you carried with you for some time. He loves how your cheeks turn red from enthusiasm, reminding him of an apple from a fruiting tree in the back garden.
“Must be nice to have them.” You said, followed by a sigh.
Whatever you are thinking now, it has erased your smile. He doesn't like this, why do your eyes seem to lose their shine?
"Your Highness can say that until they mess up the house." Zhongli said in the hope that it will cheer you up.
It worked because now you seem enthusiastic about the story. "They did that?"
The boy nodded slightly, "That's why father put them in this room." He answered.
"Ha ha! They are still cute in my eyes!”
That's the smile. He puts up his own and prays that you don't lose it again. With such beautiful eyes, it would be a pity if you used them only to lower your head and stare blankly at every part of Liyue.
Zhongli turned to look at the window that showed the bright sky outside before returning to you. “Does the Princess want a tea party?”
You looked up from his new offer, "Tea party?"
You ask that question even though you don't wait for an answer. In your mind, you remember the last time you tasted the sweetness of your favorite tea under sunny weather. You remember enjoying it with your older brother, you were about to laugh when you remember Shiva spilling his cup from his negligence. But you locked it up knowing it was just a memory, because now you're traveling with your father with the war he brought.
Zhongli's hand that he stretched out in front of you again brought you back to reality. Where then you look at him with wide eyes.
" Zhongli?"
Amber eyes looked back at you, "I don't think we should miss this beautiful weather."
You haven't accepted the offer yet, Zhongli spoke as if you had said yes to him. However, you don't find it in yourself to be angry about it. How can you be mad to him who always reaches out his hand to invite you to discover new things? Things that feel appropriate for a child your age to enjoy, things that aren’t swords, arrows, shields, wounds, blood, death, and fate.
And so, you smiled at his invitation, letting him take you to his garden.
Zhongli was right about the beautiful weather. At the table where you two enjoy tea and Dim sum, you wish time would pass slowly.
The petals of the cherry blossom tree flutter when the wind blows, informing you of its existence. You haven't even realized that spring has arrived, where your country will show off its natural beauty to the fullest. However, from the five spring years that you have passed, you have faith that this will be the most beautiful.
You smiled so broadly, as if the palace gardens were no more beautiful than the dukedom. So even though he doesn't dislike it, Zhongli feels that your expression is out of place.
"Your Highness?"
You turned to him, "Yes?"
Zhongli scanned your face for a moment before asking, “Forgive my rudeness but, I heard His Majesty came here straight from the battlefield. How did you come along?”
The question he asks freezes you in place. Zhongli seemed smarter than kids his age, of course he would pick up on small details like that. Then, would it be good if you told him the real reason? That His Majesty brought you to the battlefield because of your misfortune being an oracle?
Will Zhongli see you differently in the future? Or worse, treat you the same as those who use you for their own purposes?
You stare at his beautiful amber, hoping to find the answer to your doubts. "Father took me to the battlefield."
From that, his eyes widened. “But, the battlefield is a very dangerous place. You shouldn't be there." He said, wondering what the reason for a little girl in a place where people raised swords and archery to kill each other.
Your gaze shifted as you gripped the fabric of your dress. “Father said I can bring victory to Liyue with my prophecy.” You told him and Zhongli still kept his silence.
Now that you said it, what kind of reaction would he give?
You took the heaviest breath, “I can see the future.” By the time you rediscover his eyes, the evidence of shock is on his face.
Even though his jaw isn't hanging down, you know a lot is going on in his mind. Only this time, Zhongli's gaze made you uncomfortable to choose to look the other way. You're trying to understand though, knowing that even though oracles are believed by their words, oracles who can predict and change the future from their actions are different things.
Zhongli blinked after processing everything. “Are you comfortable with it? Being on the battlefield?”
That's weird. Instead of asking what you can see or begging for his future to be predicted, Zhongli said the things that failed to come out of your parents' lips.
"Father said I could help a lot by being there." On purpose, you avoided what Zhongli hoped to hear.
"Isn't drinking tea and playing with cats more fun than standing in the middle of adults fighting each other?"
You're surprised by how gently he says that. Amber eyes stare at you with lips curled into a smile, Zhongli looks at you while telling you that you shouldn't go through things like that at this age.
“…He is the Emperor.”
“However, he is neither a saint nor an oracle. He won't see past your lies if you say your miracles disappeared." Zhongli countered, slightly enjoying your parted lips from his suggestion.
"Isn't lying a bad thing?"
Zhongli laughed at that, “Small lies won't hurt a person as great as the Emperor.”
You can't deny that he has a point. People knew that an oracle could lose their miracles once the gods felt they no longer deserved to be blessed. Maybe this lie will save you later.
From that day, you took Zhongli as your first friend.
From that day, you answer your mother's questions about your predictions by saying you don't see anything in your sleep. You repeated the same thing whenever she brought it up, so often that they concluded you had lost the miracle, which makes you no longer treated more special than the crown prince.
After they thought you were nothing more than an imperial princess, they set you up with the crown prince of the Snezhnaya kingdom after the war ended.
Ironically, despite being stuck in an engagement you didn't want and people no longer treating you as if they were willing to kneel at your feet, you find your new life more serene—as an oracle thought to have lost her ability to see the future.
Because you believe that in the end, everything will be fine.
Because you believe Prince Childe will call off the engagement after years of not seeing you and you'll find the happy ending you've always dreamed of.
However, the world is not as beautiful as expected, thus heaven was created.
In the year that you are about to reach the coming-of-age, a high fever hits you who is lying weak. The doctor who couldn't find the cause also advised your ladies-in-waiting to apply a compress in the hope that it would relieve the heat.
You're in a dream—no, you remember what they used to say about the oracle having an inability to dream. However, with the plumes of smoke covering the sky and the roof of the imperial palace burning in flames, you believe this is the most terrifying prophecy of all you have received.
Because in your arms is Zhongli. His armor is stained with his own blood.
Meanwhile, not far away was a soldier who had planted his proud flag—which you remember as belonging to the Snezhnaya kingdom. He was the one who managed to stab Zhongli with his sword after ordering his men to release their arrows.
"It's a shame to see a duke as great as you fall like this." He said, venom in his voice.
You gritted your teeth but chose to ignore him away as your priority was to hold Zhongli tightly so the soldier wouldn't have a chance to touch him again.
That soldier was so brave now that he knew the Liyue empire had collapsed, and you became the only remaining member of the imperial family. He laughs, finding solace in your vigilance and the man who will die in your arms.
"If the marriage hadn't been annulled, we might have become allies." This time, he did not hide his ridicule.
In that vision, you couldn't take your eyes off of Zhongli—which left an invisible wound on your heart seeing him in this state. He uses what little energy he has left to cup your hands, rather than the warmth, coldness he gives you.
You wake up from your sleep covered in sweat. The memory of what you saw—what will happen in the future—still vivid. Your noisy thoughts block out the worried voice of your ladies-in-waiting.
What happened? You thought. All this time, my vision of the future had been Prince Childe insisting on forcing the marriage to me to kill me after making me his bait to a war. Then, why this time it was Zhongli who died instead of me?
You brushed off the hand of the waiter who brought you water. The ringing in your ears hasn't gone away yet, as if it were there forever. All this time, you've been avoiding Prince Childe in hopes that he'll get tired of you and have the wedding annulled. Was Zhongli's unexpected death an effect of your efforts to avoid your death at Childe's hands?
You put lines on your mind. Then you blink when you realize what you have to do—do your best to make the marriage happen, even if it means entering the lion's mouth. But, you think it's better than witnessing Zhongli's death for real, you thought you'll find a way to change your destiny again later.
With trembling legs that almost tripped you down the second after getting out of bed, you ran outside. The dark corridors of the imperial palace doesn't stop you from finding your way to your parents' chamber.
You stop only when you reach a large gold-carved teak door. On each side, the palace guards bow to you.
The door is opened after one of your mother's ladies-in-waiting informs you of your arrival. Now, the Emperor and Empress stood with their bewildered faces. You know there's a lot of questions in them but, you're the one to make requests.
“Baobei, what are you doing here? Your maid said you—"
“Father, Mother,” you cut him off even though you know it's rude but, you don't really have much time.
A breath you take. Oh, you swear this is the heaviest breath you'll ever take.
Opening your eyes, you look them straight in the eye before saying: “Please let me go with you to Prince Childe's coming-of-age banquet.”
An oracle does not dream. Now, you're the one who makes sure you'll always remember that.
Which means, in the distant future, Zhongli's death is real and will happen if you don't put in your efforts to change it.
Here's a snippet of my What If Beau And Caleb Got Too Many Somnovem Eyes fic
They try everything they can think of to block the dreams. Beau helps Caleb meditate.  Caleb teaches Beau about lucid dreaming.  They ask for a Hero’s Feast at night.  They ask Caduceus to bolster their resistance before they sleep.  Caleb keeps studying that new spell he’s been on about ever since he saw Trent again, and Veth has been saving her energy to cast Intellect Fortress on them both as often as she can.  They try every method they can think of to fortify their will. But every night since they escaped the Tomb Takers, it’s been the same: Caleb and Beau go to sleep, they fall into the dream, and the eyes are waiting. After a while, the two of them stop being so quiet about their anxiety, not bothering to go off into a corner away from the group to discuss it.  They speak more boldly, more bluntly, about the dreams.  About the odd sensation of being watched.  Being changed. By the time they recognize that they have been given… abilities, Caleb already has seven eyes and Beau has six — the benefit, she says, of having spent some time panicking in the Happy Fun Ball instead of sleeping in the Elemental Plane of Fire. First it’s the dark vision that clues them in.  Beau realizes that she forgot to put on her goggles, but that she can still see everyone perfectly fine.  Then Caleb mentions that bit about Sprinkle whispering to Jester and everyone gets rather distracted for a few minutes (and understandably so). Soon enough they realize they can send messages telepathically, without any material components (or prior ability to cast spells at all, in Beau's case). Jester tries to turn this into a game, testing out the range of their telepathy, pass-it-on and having them think ridiculous things to each other. Then two of them become far more perceptive than usual, able to hear — no, somehow able to sense the presence of other living beings from a good distance away.  This saves them from more than a few monsters, though none of the Nein look particularly happy about it. “Y’know it’s actually worse with the lucid dreaming,” starts Beau.  “For me, at least.” “Ja, I see how it could be,” Caleb responds with a nod.  “You know, I, ah…” Caleb keeps nodding, his face twitching with emotion, his hands occasionally moving in small gestures.  Beau nods back after a moment, and then looks at him, puzzled, concerned.  Then her face turns sympathetic.  Caleb looks uncomfortable, that way he always does when people sympathize with him.  He doesn’t meet her eyes.  Doesn’t want her sympathy. Jester’s voice breaks through the silence: “Wait, are you guys talking in your heads?” Caleb makes a face, looks at Jester, then at Beau, who also looks skeptical, before both of their faces fall as they look at each other’s mouths. “Fuck,” says Beau.  Out loud. “Ditto, kiddo,” whispers Caleb, before clearing his throat. “I’ll take that as a ‘yes, we were communicating telepathically,’ then?”  Veth somehow maintains that flat expression that manages to be both playful and sardonic at once, and it makes Caleb smile a little. “Yes, Veth.” “Okay, but, like, you guys know that was kinda rude, yeah?  We want to be included, I want to know your lucid dreaming stuff—” “I don’t think they were doing it on purpose, Jester,” says Caduceus from where he’s still wrapping the wound on Yasha’s arm. "Oh?" Yasha looks ponderous for a moment before her face falls. "Oh. That... that's bad, probably." "Probably?" Beau lets out a breathy, desperate attempt at a laugh. "Ja. Probably," Caleb whispers to himself.
send me a 👀 and I’ll post a snippet from a WIP that I never got around to finishing this year.
A possible ROTTMNT prompt. Something something, mystic or magic shenanigans, something something, whoops, the turtle squad is unable to lie until the effects wear off. Surely no problems will arise from this.
Oh come ON you know I can't resist this! And you know what's even worse? Part two is on the way XD There was too much I wanted to add for it to fit in a one-shot, so keep an eye out for that TT_TT
Here we go!
---
She can tell something is off the second she steps into the living room.
The boys are squished on the couch, Splinter's chair and the beanbag, arms folded and glaring eyes staring straight ahead. That's nothing new. She's walked in on brotherly spats worse than this, where they'll sit and watch a movie in silence until they eventually sort themselves out.
But nothing is playing, not even music. The Lair is hauntingly quiet. And the boys—
“What's with the duct tape?”
Four heads whirl to face her, their muffled answers intelligible through the silver tape slapped over their mouths.
She stares. God help her.
It's an exhausted but smiling Casey who comes to her rescue with a tray of drinks because he's an actual angel. “The guys got hit by a powerful truth spell while they were shopping in the Hidden City,” he explains, offering her a cup of herbal tea that smells amazing. “They accidentally pissed off a witch, so she cursed them. It'll wear off after seventy-two hours.”
April nearly spits her drink up. “Seventy-two—three days?!” She whirls on the boys. “What the hell did you guys do to get cursed that bad?!”
Leo, Raph and Mikey all glare at Donnie. Said turtle rolls his eyes and painstakingly peels off the tape, leaving a pale mark around his beak. He makes eye contact with April and says in one dead-toned breath:
“It was a witch from Witch Town who recognized me from the incident two years ago, and we got into a debate about magic to which I, reasonably and correctly, told her that I have finally embraced my mystic heritage and abilities and found a way to seamlessly blend technology and magic despite my earlier hang-ups, to which she, closed-minded bint that she was, told me that I was in gross violation of the 'Old Ways' and a walking, talking sin against everything they believed in over generations of Witch kind, to which I countered—!”
Leo tears off his gag. “He told her to shove her 'Old Ways' up her old ass and stick her old face in an old toilet full of old shit.”
April gapes at Donnie. Casey snorts in surprise and muffles his giggles in the crook of his elbow. Mikey's shoulders shake with repressed laughter, loud even through the tape. Raph looks tired.
“My god,” April groans. “Didn't y'all just get back from being turned into toddlers three weeks ago?”
Mikey abruptly stops laughing and rips off his tape with a yelp. “Yeah, literally in the last one-shot, which turned into a two-shot because y'all couldn't get your crap together fast enough, and I swear to god I love you guys a whole lot, but the author was out for blood, and I was at my limit—!”
Raph gives in and tears his tape off without wincing. “Michel, what did we say about breaking the fourth wall?”
“He wouldn't have to if it weren't for this stupid freaking spell,” Leo snaps, glaring at Donnie. “And he has every right to be pissed off, given this whole thing is your fault, Donnie!”
Donnie rears back, slapping Leo's pointing finger away. “How, pray tell, is it my fault that witch couldn't handle being wrong?”
“Donnie!”
“What? I finally give in to the mystic powers thing, and I still get put on blast? How is that fair?!” Donnie cries, arms flailing. “Also shouldn't I reserve the right to stand up against bullies or abusive speech because that bitch was out of line, and I am tired, tired I tell you, of being the butt of every joke and having to take it in because people get all uncomfortable and—!”
He slaps the tape back over his beak and sinks into the couch, arms folded tight across his chest. His brothers look at him with wide eyes. Casey shuffles in place and bites his lip, looking at April as if asking for help.
Unlucky for him, April has no answers. Except for maybe one.
“Look, guys,” she says, setting her lukewarm tea on the floor and taking a seat in front of the couch, facing the turtles. Casey joins her and sits cross-legged. “There's no point in muting yourselves because clearly, it ain't workin'. From what it looks like, the spell compels you to talk no matter what you do, so you might as well ride it out and try—emphasis on try—to be civil about it. Who's right and wrong doesn't matter. It's done, so let's deal with it like we always do and push through, okay?”
The boys share a look followed by a chorus of half-hearted agreement. April nods. “Good. Thank you.”
“And hey,” Mikey says, perking up, “maybe this won't be so bad after all! We can all finally have an open, honest and unfiltered conversation about our feelings!”
A cricket chirps in the silence until Leo flicks it off his shoulder.
Mikey sighs and flops back into the beanbag. “Yeah, figured. It kinda sucks being the youngest and the family therapist all time, like I don't got my own hang-ups that nobody listens to 'cause my family is full of emotionally constipated oh frick!”
He shoots to his feet and sprints out of the room. His brothers stare after him with looks that wage war between shock and actual heartbreak.
April drops her face into her free hand and groans. This is gonna be a long three days.
~0o0~
Day One goes about as smoothly as April expects.
Against her better judgment, April decides to stay over until the spell wears off, ready to help Casey and Splinter play referee and peacekeeper for whatever crap storm rolls in on the horizon. With four freshly traumatized teenagers stuck under the same roof (or abandoned subway tunnel) for three days, April wagers it'll be rough.
Still, April has hope. Her boys, at their core, are the kindest and most loving people she's ever had the pleasure to know and have the honour of calling her little brothers. Their love for each other is the stuff of legend; their powers are fuelled by it, and they'd defeated Gods and alien monsters with it. A simple spell should be a cakewalk.
But she forgets that while her boys love each other, they're still boys. Of course they'd abuse the spell for their own gain.
It starts out innocently enough:
---
“Hey, Donnie, any idea why the pop-tarts are always kinda soggy and never have any icing?”
“I like the icing off and put them back in the box—son of a—”
“I KNEW IT!”
---
“Raphael, how is your eye today?”
“Really freaking itchy since I ran outta those drops you gave me, but I haven't said anything 'cause I thought I'd be totally okay without-- Donnie—!”
“You heathen.”
---
“Ayo, who ate the last slice of cake I was saving?!”
“It was Leo! He threatened me with an emotionally heartfelt truth to not tell you despite knowing the terms of the spell would render that promise ineffectual!”
“Donald, you absolute rat bastard—”
---
“How are your hands today, Miguel?”
“Mmmph—“
“Take off the duct tape you fatherless waste of flesh and face your demise like a man.”
“OW! That freakin' hurt, man! And for one, we have two fathers, and for two, I said they're fine! I've been doin' the exercises like you said and checked in with Draxum last weekend to take notes on my mystic energy output, which is stable, thanking you very much.”
“... oh. That's—good. Thank you for actually listening to me, Mikey. Your health and overall well-being mean a lot to me, and I appreciate—”
“And I spilt orange juice on your bazooka blueprints on purpose, but I hoped to tell you later that it was an accident because I hate it when you make crazy dangerous weapons we will never use or let you use—Donnie, where did you get that bat--?”
“Batter up bitch it's time to die!”
---
“Leo, I swear to Pizza Supreme in the sky if you poke me one more time—”
“What? Whatcha gonna do? Can't do jack, 'cause you can't threaten me, all your threats are lies, Dontron, you ain't got nothin—criss on a cross did you stab me with a knife?!”
“I did not stab you, I poked you in the arm with minimal pressure with the wrong side of my craft knife. And I said it, so it is definitely the truth.”
“Dude, what the hell? I can't believe you actually did that!”
“I can't believe your tits are one polygon.”
“We're turtles! We have no tits!”
(Granted, hearing Leo scream that from across the Lair was hilarious. Donnie probably has it recorded, too.)
Aside from that, the newly dubbed Peace Squad only had to break up one major fight over Raph confessing to Mikey that he did lie about the trash monster that would eat him in his sleep. Dr Delicate Touch is a force to be reconned with.
Thus, Day One ends with only a few bruises and half-glares as the boys turn in early. Raph abuses the spell one last time to muscle Donnie into bed when the soft shell is forced to tell Raph outright that he had no plans to sleep, spending the night in the lab until he can't see straight.
Leo laughs so hard he cries when Raph slam-dunks his twin into bed, killing him instantly.
Splinter collapses into his chair, snoring immediately, and April and Casey retire to the guest room they share on the opposite side of the lair. The pair share a fist bump on a job well done and fall asleep in minutes.
Then Day Two happens.
And really, April should have seen this coming.
~0o0~
You can only take something so far until somebody calls you out for it. And Leo, being Leo, milks the spell for all he can.
It's mostly over silly things, like where Donnie had hidden the videos and photos Mikey took during their week as tots or where Raph keeps his stash of strawberry mochi. Or why Mikey keeps stealing his axe body spray.
In hindsight, April should have nipped it in the bud as soon as she noticed. It really was just fun and games, because that's how Leo copes with stress: make a game out of it, and hopefully, someone laughs. Even if they don't, their focus is on him acting a fool and not their stressful predicament. A spark of genuis April hadn't appreciated until it was nearly too late.
But still, Leo doesn't know when to stop, and it's Donnie who finally snaps.
And lord, does he snap.
“Dear god, Leon, shut the HELL UP!”
Leo's grin slips right off his face. The room falls into a startled hush, all eyes on the twins as one glares daggers of frustration into the other. Even Splinter looks troubled, golden eyes darting between his middle children from his comfy chair.
The slider raises his hands in mock surrender, trying for a smile. “Hey, take it easy, Dee, I'm just playing around—”
“No, you're being an insufferable prick, and I have had enough!” Donnie stamps his foot, and oh, dammit. The bottle has been shaken hard enough, and the cap's blown off. “It's bad enough that we're stuck under this stupid spell, and sure, I'll take responsibility for that, whatever, but you—Leo, god, you just cannot help yourself, can you? You just have to take advantage of a compelling spell that we cannot break or force down—do you realize how invasive that is?! We're brothers, but sometimes I like keeping my private thoughts private, and not sharing passwords for my super-secret-locked-for-a-reason digital vaults! This isn't funny, Leo, it's a goddamn nightmare, and you're making it worse for the rest of us with your bouts of incorrigible stupidity! Tee-ell-dee-arr: stop being a selfish asshole, and for once, in your goddamn life, just. Be. QUIET!”
Silence. Leo's eyes are wide. Mikey huddles behind Raph, hands over his mouth. Raph's beak twists with pain. Casey shuffles next to Splinter, unsure. April's heart thunders in her ears.
Then Leo scowls.
“Okay,” he says in that tone, and April hisses a curse. “Okay. Y'know what, that's cool, Dee. I get it. I can be an asshole, I'll take that. I've been abusing the spell a bit, I can take that, too. But, and I'm just putting this out there, you may recall how you've been doing the exact same thing to us. Badgering Mikey and Raph about their injuries, forcing me to own up about my nightmares last night—you don't think that maybe, just maybe, there's a reason I don't like talking about that shit? Maybe I wanna keep that information to myself until I'm ready to talk about it with you on my own terms? Don't put me on blast for being a dick if you're pulling the same moves!”
“Correction one,” Donnie holds up a finger and steps forward, eyes blazing. “I ask Mikey and Raph because I worry about them, and I know they'll keep it from me until it becomes too much to handle, and it goes from a mild annoyance that's treatable to a medical emergency that puts them in the medbay! Correction two,” He holds up another finger, “I asked you about your nightmares because they're hurting you now in more ways than just mentally or emotionally and I'm trying to help you, you selfish, prideful—!”
“Selfish?!” Leo stomps the last few inches and butts his forehead against Donnie's, ignoring Raph and Mikey's pleas to stop. “Did you—did you seriously just call me selfish?! Sure I was an asshole at first, but everything I did that day and every day since is for you guys! Everything I've ever done has been for this family! How freaking dare you—!”
“You are selfish! Throwing yourself into danger, risking your life without thinking of the consequences or the people you're hurting when you leave them behind—!”
“Guys, please stop!” Mikey cries, eyes shining, hands trembling. “Just—it's been a long two days, I get it, but yelling at each other in this state is only gonna—”
“Butt out, Mikey,” Leo bites without looking away from Donnie. “No one asked you to play family therapist. Give it a freaking rest.”
Mikey flinches. The tears spill over.
“Leo!” April gasps several beats too late. Splinter's fur bristles as he hops out of his chair and approaches Mikey just as Casey puts his arms around his shaking shoulders.
“Leonardo,” Raph hisses, stomping over to the twins and breaking them apart. “Knock it off. Both of you. You're mad, everybody's mad and tired, I get it. But don't you dare take it out on Mikey. He's just trying to help—”
“Well, no one asked him to!” Leo throws his hands up. “Just like no one asked you to jump in and try to parent us like we're still little kids! We get it, you have Older Sister Syndrome and our Dad was barely around, which sprouted a whole can of worms called 'issues' that we pretend don't exist. Pick a different character trait and move on!”
Raph rears back as if Leo had hit him. Splinter freezes, guilt and heartbreak flashing in his eyes for a moment before he shuts them and squeezes Mikey's hand instead.
“What the actual shit, Nardo?!” Donnie cries, shoving Leo in the chest hard enough that the slider staggers back several feet. “What, now that someone's finally calling you out, you retaliate like a sore loser with verbal attacks?! Are we witnessing Leo's Lowest right now? Freaking wow, bravo, peak leadership right here, folks—”
“Shut up with the leader thing!” Leo hisses back, hands fluttering by his sides, claws peeking. “I never wanted to be the leader, I never asked for that responsibility the same way Raph didn't ask to be our second parent for the first few years of our lives! And, I'm sorry, 'verbal attacks?' Like your screw-up with the Witch isn't the whole reason we're even in this mess?! If you're supposed to be the 'smartest' I'd hate to see what dumb looks like you narcissistic, eggheaded weirdo!”
Donnie nearly knocks April over when he lunges at Leo with a scream, taking them both to the ground. It's a mess of brutal punches, kicks, bites, hissing, Raph shouting, Mikey crying and Splinter trying to pry the turtles off each other. April can't get close enough to help, and turtle bites are lethal enough on their own.
“At least I'm not tearing my brothers down or acting like a baby,” Donnie spits, grappling with Leo pinned underneath him. “Or hiding things from my family after I threw myself into a prison dimension with a monster and didn't think about how everyone might feel about that—!”
Leo knees Donnie in the gut, yanking on his mask tails as he rolls them over, pinning Donnie to the floor with his forearm across his chest, eyes wild, livid and bright with hurt. “At least I'm man enough to admit my faults, unlike my beloved twin who has to turn everything into a drama to prove he's the smartest—!”
“—and for the last freaking time, you are NOT MY TWIN! We cannot be twins, it is biologically impossible, we are different species, GET THAT THROUGH YOUR DUM-DUM HEAD—!”
“FINE! If you hate being my brother so bad, maybe you really would be better off if I'd died in the—!”
April doesn't think. Her mind goes white, and she leaps forward and slaps Leo across the face.
Leo careens off Donnie, who has gone stiff, eyes blown wide. The Lair goes deathly quiet for the third time, and April, chest heaving and eyes stinging, can't tell if because of what she did—why did I do that, god, I hit him, I hit my little brother—or what Leo dared to say.
April looks at her hand, sore and red from the blow. She looks up at Raph, Mikey and Casey, staring between her and the twins in raw shock and, in Mikey's case, horror. She looks at Splinter, carefully helping Donnie to sit up with clawed hands that shake. She looks at Leo, slumped on the floor, cupping his swelling cheek, staring at her with wet eyes. His nose is bleeding.
Oh god.
“Leo,” April breaks the silence, her words choked, a hand reaching out for the slider. He flinches, and she yanks her hand back to her chest. Her eyes sting, lips trembling. “I'm—I'm so sorry, I didn't mean—I'm, I'm so sorry—”
April sees the moment Leo shuts down. He sniffs, wiping the blood off his nose with his arm, and stumbles to his feet. He shrugs off Raph and Casey's supporting hands and doesn't look at any of them as he stalks away.
“Leonardo, where are you going?” Splinter calls. April's already broken heart lurches when, in a flash of blue, Leo summons his swords.
“Away,” Leo bites out. His shell is facing them, but April can hear the tears in his voice. “Best of luck with being the only middle kid, Donatello. I'm outta here.”
“No, no wait—!”
“Leo, please stop—!”
“My son, don't—!”
“Sensei, no—!”
Another flash of brilliant blue and Leo is gone.
so about the headcanon that Tam Song has depression and/or anxiety, what are some opinions you have about the symptoms that he would experience, and how he would handle it? my boy has social anxiety and needs Linh to order his food at restaurants, change my mind. (but really, as somebody with severe depression and anxiety, and Tam as a comfort character, this headcanon means a lot to me)
I love those headcanons! It's both satisfying and cathartic to see characters dealing with similar issues/situations/feelings that you do, among other things. That being said, here are some of my thoughts on what symptoms and coping mechanisms Tam might have!
the cuffs of his shirts are always a little more worn than everything else because he bites on them when he's nervous
he bites his shirts because he used to bite his lip a lot but he's trying to be better about that one and find another outlet
when he gets really anxious, he'll start to get lightheaded, bordering on vertigo, and needs to take a moment to reorient himself and breath through it
time seems to slip by him sometimes, hours, days, weeks passing in a haze, and during those hazes he doesn't really talk to anyone. not intentionally, it just doesn't happen. one day turns into two turns into two weeks of missed hails and unread messages.
his rooms gets messy, even though he doesn't have a lot of things. items slip out of place and he just gets rid of things so he doesn't have to deal with them.
that part is something friends help him deal with, though not many people are allowed in his space. when he goes awol for a while someone will drop by to check on him, to open the curtains and put on a happier playlist and help him straighten things up.
he's always judgemental and quick to snap back at people because he's trying to hide how vulnerable and exposed he feels in group settings, and sometimes afterwards he regrets some of the things that he said
when working with his ability he's almost always dealing with thoughts telling him he'll never be good enough. that he's not strong enough, that his ability makes him less.
he tries not to say it, but it's written on his face. when they were kids, Linh made him a little bracelet with letter beads that spell "worthy," and he's always kept it as a reminder against those thoughts. over the years he's made himself more bracelets because the reminders do help, things like "enough" and "valued"
both a combination of insomnia and overwhelming nerves can keep him up sometimes, for a variety of reasons. maybe his heart is beating too loud or he can hear too many sounds at once, sometimes sleep is just a lot harder.
those nights, he has a playlist he listens to of quiet songs to try and at least keep him calmer. he doesn't put more remorseful or sad songs on the playlist, because he learned the hard way that's way more likely to send him into late night everyone hates me and nothing matters thoughts, which he wants to avoid
when he gets anxious he starts to tap things, unique patterns with his fingers over and over again to give him something to do with the incessant energy his mind is throwing at him. sometimes he focusing on regulating himself so hard he stops processing everything else, stops bearing conversation and stops responding, but he'll try to play it off if people notice
talking to people always wears him out a little even if he likes the person because he's so high-strung, constantly waiting for the catch. Just like when he spoke to Mr. Forkle, he's always running through worst case scenarios in his head and bracing himself for the most far-fetched
he's not 100% adapted to dealing with everything and has some hard days, but he is legitimately trying to get better about it and making progress
this is more of an informal format than I usually take to answering asks, so if you'd want me to go through and be more methodic and connect things to canon, I'd be more than happy to do so! but until then these are some of the thoughts I first had when you broached the subject. I love him very dearly <3
(to mod) If Polaris isn't meant to be understood, does that mean the things you write for their dialogue are completely random? Or is there still a like, cipher language thing going on?
OOC: Thank you for asking! You have no idea how happy it made me for someone to ask this, I love talking about small mundane details in the things I do💖
Short answer, It's a cipher! I think it's called a substitution cipher? But I'm not 100% sure. I was thinking about making it random or sound based but I thought it might be a bit fun for those who wish to understand Polaris. So I made it simple and easy. For my sake and those who are wondering about the text she speaks. Polaris can be understood if the user takes the time to understand her. Every letter in her speech corresponds to one in the English alphabet.
She can be understood if the user attempts to but at just a glance you will not be able to understand her, her replies will not be translated like Atlas. This is to keep what she's saying a bit of a mystery. North will happily translate things word for word if asked by the user or Polaris herself such as in this post.
To how the cipher works:
Tumblr media
It's simple enough, this says Get away
Tumblr media
Every symbol does correspond to one in English.
Tumblr media
I made sure to keep the general shape for letters the same (as in English) to make it easier to visually decipher (at least for me). However, some of them are not a 100% match, or rather are the letter shape broken up and rearranged such as with "W" and "Y". But not all of them follow that rule!
So, it's a cipher, much like unown text. But, admittedly not everything's always spelled correctly due to the fact I'm still learning how to write in it, and much like Atlas I don't always write exactly what's there, so the sentence could be changed up into a different order/wording. ^^
But, that's the answer! I'll put a 'read more' for my babbling on about details.
To the user: Her text is visually displayed and can be deciphered. But it's not actively translated like Atlas's text.
In-universe, however:
Polaris doesn't talk out loud, her speech is either nothing or random noises. So characters in the story cannot hear her, and if they do it sounds like garbled nonsense. Every familiar speaks this way as their ability to speak has been stripped away, so they can only truly be understood by the human they're attached to.
All in all, to the user she can be understood but isn't 100% supposed to be. Thank you for asking! 💖
My character idea
I'm writing a story. The way the story is composed means that there are multiple main characters, since the perspective changes from chapter to chapter.
Here is one of the characters.
Violet Isabella Pines. (Yes, that was intentional.)
She is one of my oldest characters, and the one who's had the most revision. She's named Violet because I've always used that color with her. Her last name is Pines as a tribute to Gravity Falls. Her middle name, Isabella, was chosen when I saw what her initials had the potential to spell out.
Violet is funny. She has all the characteristics of a main character, yet she's more of a quirky side character. This is on purpose, because her magical abilities are far to powerful for me to give her the spotlight.
She can teleport, but only to places she can walk. This is because teleportation takes as much energy as it would for her to walk there. If she's teleporting with a person in tow, it takes as much energy as it would for her to drag them there.
She has a second ability. She can control technology. In a world where everything is linked to technology, this is scary. This is why she can't be the main character.
But wait! There's more. She owns a ring, a ring that can only be used by incredibly powerful people, and it gives her a TON more abilities. The drawback? it can only be powered by music, making everyone think that it's useless and silly. Unnntil Violet burns two buildings to the ground in a fit of rage. Oops!
Violet has ADHD. I'm tired of reading books like Percy Jackson and having ADHD represented as "oH No I cAn'T siT sTiLl aNd i hAvE siLlY InTrUsIvE tHoUgHtS". All of her symptoms are directly copied from symptoms I experience. Below are some of her symptoms.
Violet is socially oblivious, to a painful point. Someone will say, "I like you." She'll say, "Aww you're my best friend too." They say, "I love you." She says. "I love you too! You're like my family!" They say, "I WANT TO TAKE YOU OUT!" She thinks they want to kill her and punches them in the face. She also thinks she's funny, and will laugh obnoxiously loud at her own jokes, despite everyone else having a straight face. She is never embarrassed in public, causing second-hand embarrassment for those around her.
She hyper-fixates on the rock band Rush (A real band! Check them out!). She memorized the lyrics to ALL of their songs (And they have over 150!). She printed out a hard copy of all the lyrics. The songs she listens to from bands that aren't Rush can fit in a single 35-minute playlist. Her friends are sick of Rush.
She can only concentrate for an hour or so. After that hour is up, she needs to get up and move for at least ten minutes.
During school, lectures make her want to pluck her own eyes out. She is known for fidgeting in her seat and doodling on her notes/folders/arms. She gets in trouble for talking.
She will talk nonstop, and it doesn't make sense when she does. One thing will remind her of another thing and you'll quickly go from how her day was to why she quit gymnastics four years ago to some random meme she saw online.
When Violet gets hyper, but can't move around or doesn't want to move around, she has a tendency to shake her hands, like she's trying to get water off of them. She also does this if she tries to wear nail polish.
Violet also has a fixation for counting syllables. <-15 syllables <-5 syllables. She really likes sentences with syllable counts that divide into 5, 4, or 3. <-16 syllables (4!) Sometimes she counts the syllables out on her fingers. <-13 syllables :( One of her favorite songs has 110 syllables, exact. That makes her happy. <- 21 syllables (3)
On to other character apsects!
Her favorite color is purple. Her hair is dyed purple, and her eyes are colored indigo, as a property of her ring.
Although Violet appears reckless and confident, she is very anxious. She always checks the locks on the doors when she thinks her family isn't watching her. She bugs her parents to make sure their smoke alarm is up to code. Thunderstorms scare her, because she doesn't want to be struck by lightning. Someone being 15 minutes late sends her into a panic.
Somehow, despite her anxiety, public speaking is her strong suit. She loves to stand on a stage and speak. In fact, she will volunteer herself for such things. What an enigma.
Violet is aroace, but doesn't realize. She always chalks her lack of romantic interest up to "My brain isn't fully developed yet, it'll happen when I get older" and "I'm too young for a relationship". She doesn't have much of a problem with being asked out, since she's pretty average looking, and most people are dissuaded by her personality.
That's pretty much all, without getting into her backstory. (I will say she's adopted, and loves her family. She's a great big sister)
Tell me what you think! A lot of this story is a parody of most fantasy stories, and Violet is partly a parody of "The overpowered character" and "The quirky friend"
9/24 - vicissitudes
"An echo it is. Of a symphony. But a fraction of what men, in their completeness, once possessed."
-
Norhi sighed as the Emperor Xande was finally defeated. She turned to see her friends joining her in the throne room, now that it was safe. She smiled and watched them go about starting to examine and learn about all this. She found herself thinking that this was exactly why she got into adventuring. To see that which was being rediscovered and help people learn about their world.
Unei approached then, gaining Norhi’s attention. Even with the revelation that they were clones of ancient Allagans, she couldn’t help but just see them as people. Unei glanced at Doga, before turning to Norhi and saying, "There are two ways that we may seal off Syrcus Tower: either isolate it from the outside world, or cripple its ability to produce energy. The choice of method is yours to make. Before you proceed, however, Dog and I must needs attend to a task."
Norhi nodded softly, curious about what they needed to do. She watched as the two of them turn to approach the throne, which revealed the presence of a weird, darkly colored waver in the air.
G’raha stepped closer in concern. "That distortion… What is it?"
Unei turned back enough to answer, unphased by the details she was revealing, "The power that Xande sought to obtain comes from the void - the World of Darkness, our people called it. And the true nature of that power was none other than the armies of voidsent."
Doga nodded as as he elaborated on Unei’s point, "Voidsent feed on aether, as you may already know, and no plane is richer in it than ours. In exchange for their allegiance, Xande entered into an unholy covenant. He would open a gate through which the voidsent could freely enter our world. The covenant, I'm afraid to say, is still in effect. However, being of the emperor's lineage, Unei and I believe we can annul it. By his blood Xande sealed his dark pact. By our blood it shall be undone."
He turned back to Unei then, the two of them exchanging silent understanding looks. Doga then smiled just a little. "It is time."
Unei bowed her head for a moment, softly answering, "Yes, Doga. Finally, we may fulfill our purpose."
The two then turn back to the shimmering almost voidgate and raise their hands. Glimmering aether filled the air as they began the arduous task of forcing the gate closed.
As their spell pushes further, the device that Nero had been using off to the side starting chattering a loud and distinct static. Nero threw his head back with delighted laughter, startling everyone in the room. "Oh, be still my beating heart! For a moment I feared this outing would end in disappointment, but my readings were not mistaken! Not even Ultima Weapon compares to this!"
Unei and Doga release their spell to look back at Nero in concern.
Cid turned to Nero with a scowl, "What are you going on about!?"
But then the room pulsed. An unsettling voice spoke, seeming to come from all around the room at first, "The covenant… is everlasting.”
The voidgate reverberates and the sound of teleportation magic filled the room. Numerous clones appeared around the room, surrounding them and pulling weapons free. Norhi started to reach for her cane, just as she felt the first wave of the Echo slam into her. She shook her head and tried to push it away, only for it to gain hold on her mind and drop her to her knees.
Her mind is thrown into the past where Emperor Xande sat on his throne, talking to an array of kneeling clones. His voice was tired and filled with ennui. "And so Meracydia is brought into t he fold. Soon, all the world shall be united under Allagan rule. And yet… with every dream that becomes a reality, the memory of death grows ever more vivid - an endless void, bereft of light and warmth. Though I defeated death, it did not leave me unscathed. Nay, its ravening claws have scarred my soul for eternity. Never shall I know peace."
He watched the clones at his feet for a moment longer, before muttering further, "Beings without will. You cannot fathom my rage. My melancholy. My fear. What worth is wealth and power when all must inevitably be consigned to nothingness?”
Xande stood then, his voice becoming a rage filled rant, “If man has nothing, he need not know the pain of loss. So let there be nothing. Harvest more power, that the gate may be thrown full open. Let the Cloud of Darkness come and engulf the world, devouring all life, hopes, and dreams. Let all be returned to nothingness."
Norhi finally shook off the echo, looking up in time to see one of the invading clones coming right for her. He’s thrown back as an arrow takes him in the chest. G’raha appears at Norhi’s side, reaching to help her up. "Norhi! Pull yourself together!"
Norhi nodded and scooped up her dropped cane. Several more clones appeared then, with more weapons and magic. G’raha snarled and turned back to back with Norhi, "Is there no end to them!? What in the seven hells is happening!?"
And before Norhi could start her first spell, she felt G’raha double over behind her. She turned to see his hand clamped over his red eye, while he grimaced in pain. "Argh! Not now, damn it!"
She turned again to try and keep the clones off of G’raha. She spotted Cid and Nero taking out several clones and trading barbs as if they were fighting each other. Cid snarled as he shouted, "Nero! Were they part of your grand plan, too?"
Nero snorted and quipped back, "Save your japes, Garlond! I didn't put up with your arrogant face to play with worthless clones! Something controls them. A voidsent, and no ordinary one at that."
Unei’s scream rents the air, "Doga!"
Norhi turned and saw that shadowy tendril chains had shot out from the gate, snaring Doga and was quickly pulling him in. Unei darted forward to try and rescue Doga, as more of the shadowed bindings lash out and grab her next.
Nero dashed after them, hand reaching for Unei, "Confound it! Without them, there's no way to master the darkness! That power… is mine!"
But for all his selfish heroics, the voidgate chose to snare him as well, more chains grabbing Nero and dragging him in after Unei.
Cid turned, almost as if to also try to reach out, shouting, "Nero!"
But the unsettling voice came again, shaking he room, "The covenant shall be honored. I am the Cloud of Darkness. I shall devour your light, and return this world to the void."
And then the gate closed and all the clones drop to the floor, like puppets with no strings. G’raha finally uncurled from his pain and looked toward the wavering distortion as it disappeared entirely. He growled and then turned back to the others. "Damn it, the rift is gone! What are we supposed to do now? As much as it pains me to leave without them, there's precious little we can do. Let us return to the Find and consult Rammbroes."
Norhi nodded solemnly. They needed help. This was quite solidly outside her realm of knowledge.
-
Norhi lay in her bed in the Pendants. The day had been bizarre. And while she’d had no shortage of bizarre days, today was another on the list of things she wished she’d not learned new things about Hydaelyn. Much less about Ascians and the nature of sundered souls. Her chest still ached with those strange half forgotten feelings of nostalgic fear, brought forth a second time in her life, by the sight of a sky filled with falling lights. And a voice she’d once considered a comfort. She wasn’t sure how she felt about her blessing now. Save for that it had empowered her to protect their world and find her friends. That much she still thanked Hydaelyn for.
She finally sighed and got up to drink some water, hoping to clear her head enough to sleep. But a knock came on her door and someone called her name. Upon opening the door, she recognized the bartender she’d been having her meals with since coming to the Crystarium. The man half bowed, looking as sheepish as she’d ever seen him. "Mistress Norhi? It's Glynard - from the Wandering Stairs. I apologize for calling so late. A friend of yours was asking after you. You may remember them from that business with the Cardinal Virtues."
Surprised, Norhi looked further into the hall, "Giott?"
The dwarven woman gave Norhi a cocky smile and that signature wave, "Lali-ho, stranger!”
Norhi laughed faintly and bid the woman enter, before thanking Glynard for showing her up. Inside, Norhi poured them both a drink and sat with Giott at the table, while her guest explained her coming, "So there I am - minding my own business, quaffing my ale - when I hear a ruckus outside. And then, clear as day: 'Warrior of Light'! That sounded like trouble to me, and I knew that if anyone was going to trouble herself over that trouble, it'd be you. So I gave Glynard the ol' 'But I'm your best customer!' routine until he agreed to bring me here, and now I know where you live! Great, ain't it?"
Norhi shook her head in amusement at Giott’s words and turned in her seat to better face her guest. She then sobered and quietly told Giott of Elidibus, of his taking of Ardbert’s face, of his intent in awakening new warriors of light, and of her concern at his hidden intents.
Giott listened until Norhi finished. And once done, the woman picked up the tankard and chugged the drink down without breath. She then slammed the tankard to the tabletop and groused, "Some bastard's walking around wearing Ardbert - Lamitt's Ardbert - like a secondhand jerkin!?"
Norhi just nodded as she answered, “Appallingly, yes.”
Giott bounced to her feet, standing on the chair and waved a finger at Norhi, "I don't know what's more offensive - that, or that you let him leave without a proper dwarven decking!"
Norhi snorted then and arched one tired eyebrow at Giott, before answering in a deadpan, "A certain hobson refused to teach me."
Giott deflated and then sighed, before rolling her eyes at Norhi, "Bah! In a pinch, an improvised decking would've been fine!"
She then punched a hand high into the air, giving Norhi a resolved look, "Tell you what. I'll show you how to knock that bastard flat in the blink of an eye, here and now. Taboos be damned. After all, we ain't about to let him keep on like that, are we? Pretending to be Ardbert. Lamitt's Ardbert."
Norhi blinked at the sudden turn but nodded. She stood as Giott hopped down from the chair and moved to the open space of the room. Norhi followed and watched as Giott took a stance and began to demonstrate.
Giott formed a fist and punched it out into the air, narrating her instructions, "Step one: make a fist. Step two: extend your arm, like so. Step three: beat 'em senseless. Got it?"
Norhi just smiled then and crossed her arms. She nodded once and answered, “Yeah. Got it.”
Giott grinned at Norhi and gave her a cheeky wink, "Good. Now make me proud!"
And with that, the dwarven woman saw her own way out. Norhi sighed and turned to the window, opening it and staring up at the moon. Her melancholy came back, despite the whirlwind of cheerful violence that was Giott and her visit. It was all she could do to stay rooted on the ground, despite how much of her path seemed dictated by the Twelves-damned sky.
Norhi just shook her head and figured she might actually give Elidibus a good punch in the nose after all. He deserved at least that much, for taking her friend’s face. Especially after all the years she’d spent trying to save and protect her friends. For those she’d lost. For those she could still yet save.
And maybe because punching the smug asshole would make her feel better too. Maybe.
My Spelljammer party almost got arrested
The PCs: Xathyr (Astral Elf Captain); Sap (Plasmoid First Mate); Hex (Human Gunnery Sgt - my character and basically space Jinx because I have an obsession with Arcane.) ; Cornelius (Hadozee Bosun); B(l)ob (Plasmoid Helmsman - and yes the l is silent)
Background: The Cianamuri empire is at war with the Hadozee Liberation Army (HLA). Basically the Cianamuri is racist and they took Hadozee land which they now want back. Additionally, Cornelius, literally a farmer and one of the sweetest characters you will ever meet, accidentally got caught up in a drug deal with some Dohwar at our previous stop.
Open to our ship, the Mysttery Nutt (Yes I spelled that correctly), crossing the boarder into Cianamuri space. We get flagged down by empire ships wanting to board and do a customs check before we can continue. Cornelius looks at the ships and then loudly proclaims he is going to go downstairs and take a nap. He does not nap. Instead he jumps in a pile of hay and tries to hide. When the inspectors board they ask to see a ship manifest. It needs to be noted that Hex had immediately chosen chaos and decided to pretend to be captain of the ship, much to the chagrin of Xathyr. Additionally, B(l)ob had also chosen chaos and looked to the nearest crewman and says within earshot "Hey, you better hide your firearms." Strike number 1.
As the inspector's peruse the manifest of course they see that Cornelius is in fact Hadozee. (To no one's) Surprise, they want to speak with him to make sure he's "alright". o.O
Sap kindly offers to go downstairs and find him, whereupon she sees the top of Cornelius's head poking out from atop the hay. "Napping." he says. With a sigh, she tells Cornelius that he is needed upstairs. Without the ability to protest, Cornelius finds his way out of the hay while adeptly hiding one bottle of illegal alcohol and one bag of illegal drugs inside the hay.
Flash back to upstairs, Xathyr has about had it with Hex getting in the way and he knows she's exactly 0.2 seconds away from saying something that gets them blown out of the sky.
"You know, Hex, I think I saw some odd parts downstairs. If you could--"
Odd and parts. Her two favorite words, upon which she bolts downstairs passing Cornelius and Sap to search the hay stack...that has the drugs. (Spoiler alert: I rolled a Nat 20 on investigation.)
"Howdy there officers, name's Cornelius and I heard you wanted to speak with me?" (Like I told you. So sweet. Also probably terrified of the Cianamuri. Rightfully so.)
They ask him some questions, the prime one being "have you heard of and are you a member of the HLA?"
"No sir," (Lie) "Absolutely not. I would never...." (Lie)
Multiple crewmembers start to speak to his character.
The questions continue until soon, up on the deck, comes Hex carrying a bottle and a bag of illegal substances. "Xathyr! Look what I found!" Strike Number 2.
Xathyr is quick and is able to moderately block the inspectors view of the substances by standing in front of me. However, Cornelius saw. And now he's panicking. His eyes keep darting toward glimpses of bottle and bag that poke out from behind Xathyr. Sap also steps in front trying to help mitigate while Xathyr talks Hex down and tries to get her to go back downstairs.
B(l)ob also realizes what's going on and decides, it's time to help! To create a distraction, B(l)ob casts minor illusion, creating a firework on the other side of the deck. However, experienced players will know if you make an image with minor illusion it doesn't also get sound. Panicking, the imaged firework rises to the sky, and B(l)ob shouts as loud as he can "POP!"
The combination of the firework and B(l)ob's mouth confuses the inspectors and draws their attention away from Cornelius for just a moment, upon which he RUNS toward Hex, grabs the bottle and throws it out into space, and EATS the baggie of drugs.
Cornelius is running back up towards the inspectors, panting and obviously sweating now from eating an entire bag of a very potent drug when they turn to see him. Strike 3?
The inspectors blink as Hex leans around Xathyr and smiles broadly at them.
"Okay... well.. just stay away from trouble and the HLA and we should be good."
We all nod. Of course we would stay out of trouble. Well mostly. Haha...ha. Not like we cart surfed Club Penguin Style to an Underground rave, bought illegal drugs off a Dohwar, or shot a bunch of space pigeons just because. No, no trouble for us.
