Mass Effect 3 Thoughts
This post has been in my drafts for almost a year! After doing the other games, here’s my thoughts on the 3rd. It’s hard to approach this without tackling the ending so be warned.
By 2012 Mass Effect was a huge franchise. It’s hard to believe now but there were comics, mobile games, books and even a anime film out in preparation for the final game of the trilogy.
There was a lot to live up to and the hype was real!
When it released it was well received at first, with great gameplay, a high-stakes narrative and fun time-killer of a multiplayer. But as time progressed things turned sour as people approached the ending. Originally, after your 3 flavours of explosion, the Normandy crashed and it cut to credits. Given the time spent with the series it was an abrupt and unsatisfying resolution and made you think you’d nuked the Galaxy by the detonations from the Mass Relays. People also had issue with the final reveal being dumb or illogical. It’s difficult to say the proportion that was annoyed but there was enough backlash that BioWare were compelled to add an Extended Cut to put a more positive spin on things and grant closure to some of the decisions made.
These days people have mellowed out but it remains a bit of a dent on an otherwise decent track record. It’s possible new players will not even wonder what the fuss was about, but that’s how it was at the time. As always, a simple story told well is better than something that tries to be clever and falls short. No one likes to have their hero’s self agency taken away, or to feel lectured by the writers. Don’t get me wrong, despite all this bashing it really is a lot of fun and should be played to get the full experience.
Graphics: 9/10 - The best looking of the games. Lots of new animations and everything is very well put together. Pre-rendered cutscenes have improved a considerable amount and conversations flow a lot better.
Soundtrack: 6/10 - Many missions have no music at all! Many tracks just aren’t memorable or capture the energy of ME2, or are too forced: [this is the sad music, feel sad].
Squad: 7/10 - Feels a bit of a step back after ME2′s huge roster but everyone gets a bit of closure, which is nice. No combat chatter anymore. They have a lot of comments mid-mission but once they’re done they’re silent.
Story: 7/10 - Poor, rushed opening and shaky final mission. Could be better in middle places, like the Geth are suddenly whitewashed to be suspiciously innocent and harmless despite their past. And why would you pick the option to not cure the Krogan? However, the bulk of it was good and gathering forces and resolving major plot points feels satisfying.
The ending still feels off but if you talk as little as possible to the holo-kid and go to Destroy it felt ok. Leviathan DLC is excellent and essential for added context but doesn’t effect the ending in the way it needed to. Frustrating because it otherwise lays down the perfect groundwork to both explain and deal with the Reapers. All it needs is a Shepard who knows the full story to shout down the kid who is obviously a rogue AI with a God complex and self-replicating fleet. You shouldn’t trust it one bit.
If you could point this out, and re-frame it so that it doesn’t feel like the Reapers are giving permission for Shepard to win, it would be much more palatable. So skip the dialogue, don’t ask for details and go blow those feckers up!
Gameplay: 8/10 - Super fun shooting mechanics, with improved movement, gun modding and excellent weapon variety. Would be the best in the trilogy except the enemy variety is poor. Most of the game you’ll fight Reapers or Cerberus, and they won’t get all their roster to face you until halfway in.
Overall: Generally good but more inconsistent than the other games. This is where you see the cracks in what was old BioWare, though they were definitely rushed by EA. Manage expectations and it is still a very fun game for the most part.

The Night Guard
Arthur Pendragon x Male!Reader
Tumblr media
Fandom: BBC Merlin
Word count: 1747
Warnings: Near death experience, little bit angsty
A/N: Yeah been working on this one a while, doing every Merlin character x male reader since there are barely any so request/suggestions are welcome.
~~~
Arthur is walking down the hall, Merlin not far behind, ready to head in for the night. He sees you wait for him by the door making him smile. You smile at him and wait patiently for Arthur to be standing in front of you before he began talking. “Good evening sire.” You greet.
“For the last time (Y/n) you can call me Arthur.” Arthur shakes his head.
“Of course Arthur, there is a matter of which I would like to discuss.”
“Come on in then.” Arthur says as he deflates a bit.
You follow Arthur and Merlin into the room. Cracking your knuckles to relieve some of your nervous tension. Merlin was rushing around sorting Arthur out. “So… what is this matter you wish to discuss, (Y/n).”
“Yes, my sister is wedding her beloved and would like to inquire if I could spend some time with her and the rest of my family during this occasion.” You ask hopefully.
“Of course, give them my congratulations, how long are you thinking?” Arthur conceals his horror of the fact he may not see you for a few days.
“Three weeks.” You smile, excited at the opportunity to see your family for this long.
“Long time for a wedding.” Arthur blurts out.
“Well if you need me to not be…” You knew that for three weeks you were pushing it  mentally kicking yourself.
“No no that’s not the problem, it’ll just be odd since I have seen you everyday for a long time.” Arthur back tracks.
“Four years.” You smile fondly.
“Already?”
“Yes, quite remarkable isn’t it, anyway I’ll be leaving tomorrow afternoon so I’ll be here tonight and I have found a temporary guard.”
“Okay, goodnight I’ll see you in three weeks.” Arthur nodded.
“Good Night.”
You leave the room to stand guard. While Arthur just stares at the door before Merlin nudges him and smiles knowingly. “Shut up Merlin.”
Merlin laughs putting out the candles as Arthur goes to bed.
True to your word you are gone by the afternoon, Arthur knows because he watches you leave from his window, he can’t deny that you look very appealing in civilian clothing. Enhanced by the fact it was a rare sight, unfortunately for Arthur, you were walking away from the citadel and he already misses you.
~~~
It had been a week since (Y/n) had left and everything seems to have gone into shambles. There had been a rise in assassination attempts, Arthur hasn’t slept or eaten properly and Merlin is so close to passing out in exhaustion its frightening.  Arthur could not walk around the castle with one of the knights escorting him which was frustrating him further. He honestly didn’t know how they could last another two weeks without (Y/n), if anyone had known how much he did around the castle and how important he was to the functioning of the kingdom he would have never been able to leave.
~~~~
You are walking back to Camelot after a horrible feeling washed over you a couple of days after the wedding, you couldn’t get the thought out of your head so here you were walking back a week early. Many horrible thoughts rolled around your head. You’d never forgive yourself if something happened to Arthur, the very idea made you feel sick inside. It would be your fault for leaving for so long despite your better judgement. After years of stopping assassins up to fifteen times a month unnoticed by the higher ups. You walked up a hill in order to glance at Camelot from afar, and to your horror he saw the castle with charcoal smoke raging above it. Then you started to run.
~~~
Well this has been a great two weeks Arthur thought to himself while magically bound on the floor with the knights, Merlin and Guinevere. While they were struggling to escape their bounds the sorcerer sits lazily on the throne with a smug smile on their face. They were droning on about Uther and his genocide of the magical population, Arthur sitting there thinking that its getting harder to convince the council to lift the ban on magic when this happens all the time. (Y/n) would urge for diplomacy at a time like this but Arthur had never been great with words. But he figures it's worth a shot anyway. “What’s your name?”
Well that was definitely a start Arthur thought bitterly. The sorcerer narrows his eyes at him but answers anyway, “Romulus.”
“Okay, Romulus, why do you think it aids your cause by attacking us,” Arthur asks, a little too bluntly for his liking.
This angers Romulus greatly as he continues his rant about all Pendragons being tyrannical rulers.
~~~~
It only takes you half an hour to get to the citadel, but there are enemy soldiers everywhere. Getting into the castle would be the easy part but finding Arthur significantly harder. You cut off your thought process, knowing you had to actually get into the castle first. Raising any alarms could hurt anyone trapped inside. So you sneak round to the servant entrance.
Once you get into the castle the first you notice is that the people he brought with them are trained fighters and decent mercenaries by the look of it. This is not going to be easy you thought to yourself. Quietly dispatching as many as possible before anybody notices.
You take all of the servant shortcuts to avoid slipping into the great hall unnoticed and you see everyone in chains, you hear the sorcerer rant about freeing the magical people of Albion you roll your eyes. Not because he is wrong, nope you agree wholeheartedly just his methods of course you don’t blame the man though so you decide to interrupt. “Hey man.”
His head snaps to your direction. “Who are you?”
“The weirdo who stands outside the King’s door every night.”
“Oh you're the guard everyone tells me to worry about.”
“Yep.”
“You had the perfect opportunity to kill me?”
“Yeah, but talking to you seems to be a better option.”
“How would you know?”
Shit you didn’t think this through. “Well…”
“He doesn’t, let him leave.” Arthur growls.
You groan internally as a devilish smirk lights up the sorcerer’s face, “oh this is just too good to be true.” He laughs.
You gasp as you were flung into the wall and the sorcerer continued to torment Arthur swirling a sword looking ready to kill him urging you to get up and unsheath your sword to engage with him. Shocking him enough to make him stumble back a little, “Hey never got your name.”
“Why?” He snarls.
“I like to know the name of the person I’m fighting.” You swing at him.
“Romulus.” He blocks.
You both exchange furious blows, but you are the superior swordsman. You slash his arm and disarm him making him hiss and vanish. Smiling you turn to face Arthur seeing his tired smile in return sheathing your sword. “Are you ok-” you breath hitches.
You felt as though you got punched in the back so spin around to see Romulus with a bloodied dagger, you grab his wrist but it's weak so he easily breaks free and plunges the knife into your stomach . He smirks as he pulls it out and you collapse on the ground. The world around you goes fuzzy, screaming muffles, a face appears above you but you can’t make out who it is. The world turns black.
~~~
Arthur picks up (Y/n)’s body, bridal style, while ordering the other’s to sweep the castle for anyone more intruders and to aid anyone who needs it. “Merlin, Gwaine come with me, we need to get (Y/n) to Gaius.”
They got to Gaius’ chambers with very few hassles and put  (Y/n) on the cot. “Please tell me he’s going to be okay.”
“Sire I’m going to need you to leave the room.”
“But-”
“Please sire.”
Gwaine pulls him out of the room to leave Gaius and Merlin to do whatever they need to do.
~~~
The first time you open your eyes you are in a dark room and there are angry whispers at the foot of the soft bed you’re resting on. You lose consciousness again.
The second time you wake up you see Arthur sitting next to you asleep. Observing him you notice tears stained cheeks and dark circles around his eyes. He looks worse than he did when you came to save him. You decide against waking him up and close your eyes again drifting off.
The third time you woke up you were alone and felt disgusting, dry throat, gunky eyes, oily hair and sweaty. Thankfully there is a cup of water beside you, so you shakily grab it and take a few sips. It was dawn from what you could tell, you groan as you try to sit up, your back feels like it has been stretched and your stomach stings. Pulling away the shirt you had on you see stitches that don’t look all that appealing, definitely going to leave a scar, you wince as you twist in an attempt to see the one on your back. Then Merlin stumbles in and gawks a moment and you open your mouth to say something but he runs out. You hear shouting and next minute Arthur is in the doorway. He strides over to you but halts suddenly like he doesn’t know what to do. You look up at him and part of yourself say go for it, then he moves eloping you in a gentle hug as if he thinks you’ll break. You couldn’t think of anything to say other than, “I’m okay, Arthur.”
“You nearly weren’t.” He whispers back.
That’s when the gravity of what happened hit you, you nearly died, the idea made your head feel fuzzy and your insides sick. You shake this off to comfort Arthur. “I know but your safe, I’m alive so all's good.”
Arthur breaks away and smiles. “(Y/n) I have a confession to make.”
You don’t dare hope. “And what would that be.”
“I might quite possibly be a little bit in love with you.” He looks so scared at this moment.
“Good cause I’m head over heels in love with you.”
Arthur laughs and kisses you gently, smiling into the kiss you lift hand up to caress his cheek. Arthur pulls away and sighs “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
With brothers by my side-Fd!au
This fanfiction is based on the Family Dynamic au made by @antarctic-bay, if you would like to know more, go check them out!!!
Also please bear in mind that the things written in this might not be canon!
Of course this fic was grammatically corrected by the amazing @im-default
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Minetra was rambling about how the boys would handle being stressed and under pressure, and this fanfiction focuses mainly on Wilbur, since she gave me an amazing prompt without realizing it
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Enjoy~
“Ok class!” The english teacher grabbed everyone’s attention by clapping. The sound echoing in the large, mostly empty, room.
“Today we will be reading the speeches you have written for this weekend festival, as you may already know, every class will give a speech, and today, hopefully with no hard feelings, we will decide whose speech is going to be presented, and who will read it”
Will was too tired to listen and to care, he had forgotten that this “speech-thing” was due today, (because the teacher gave them an entire week to write it, but Wilbur remembered it only the day before) so he had to pull a classic all-nighter to get it done in time, but everyone had to write one, so a three am sleep-deprived text was good enough to show he had done it, get a decent vote, and move on.
One by one, everyone read their speeches, the difference by an actual speech and a last-minute one was abyssal, Wilbur was half-listening, half-struggling to not fall asleep and half-thinking about accords to play on the guitar after school ended.
“Mr.Pandel?” Wilbur abruptly straightened his back, almost knocking his pencil case off the desk “Since you look bored of your classmate’s speeches, why don’t you illuminate us with your speech?”
Oh you bitch
Without adding anything else, he stood up, took a deep breath and started reading his text, a mess that was not even written properly, it was scribbled SO badly he struggled to read it, and between illegible hieroglyphs and grammatical errors, it would have made any english teacher scream out of terror.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His speech ended up being not terrible, but if he would have put any effort into it, no doubt his speech would have been chosen in a heartbeat.
It did help that his voice was secure and very convincing, so in the worst case scenario, he would have gotten off with an average vote.
After everyone read their texts, it was time to choose who’s one was going on a stage.
The vote was fought between the British boy whose family was royal and all that bullshit and a girl who often skipped classes, so no one remembered her name...the girl ended up winning the vote and the boy almost flipped her off in front of the teacher, it would have been hilarious, but it didn't happen.
“Now that that’s settled…” The teacher cleared her throat, cleaning the blackboard to vote for the second decision: who was going to read the speech?
Student after student, the votes for Wilbur skyrocketed, to the point where no one was even close to the points he had: he was going to hold the speech as his class representative at the school’s open festival.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As he was closing the front door, he shouted “I’m home!”, waiting for a reply that would never arrive.
The house was empty, which made Wilbur a little sad since he had just shouted a greeting to empty walls.
He slipped his phone out of his pocket into his hand while opening the cupboards, grabbing Tommy’s cereals and… Oh yeah… That…
He had forgotten that his mug was in the sink, since no one had washed up the dishes that morning… Meaning that there were also no spoons left… Goddammit
Placing the phone on the counter, he grabbed his mug and the spoon in it to wash them, was he going to wash the rest of the dishes? No, after all, he wasn't the one on sink duty that night, so he couldn't care less.
After cleaning his mug, pouring cereals and milk and sitting down on the couch to open Youtube, it hit him properly.
He was going to give a speech as his class representative at the school’s open festival… Open…
Wait- shit, OPEN?!
He almost spat out the milk as he thought of that.
His school’s open festival was actually pretty known in town, and it was sure to attract parents and grandparents of the students, plus, everyone that swung by since there was also a market of hand-made miscellaneous.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Oh, that’s amazing Will!”
“Way to go bro!”
“...Cool”
Were the reaction of the Pandel brothers, Phil was very proud and supportive, Tommy was straight up happy for him and Techno was… tired, very tired ,three deadlines were coming up at once and he didn’t have time to work on them before because he had other things to study. But from the small tired smile he gave him, Wilbur understood that he was just as happy as the other two.
“I’m also working for our class's stand!” Tommy was radiating the energy and excitement Techno was missing while explaining his role at the festival. “We will be serving juice made from flowers! It was a science experiment and it turned out great! Me, Tubbo and Deo will make the lavender extract!”
“If it’s made by you three, I’m not trying it, I don’t trust you” Will teased Tommy, who instantly took the bait and barked back, Phil just laughed at the small back and forth between them that went on for a good two minutes.
“And you Techno?” Phil asked the half-asleep teen, “Are you doing anything for the festival?” Techno took back his plate after giving it to Tommy for a refill, “Publicly? Nah, too much pressure, I’m helping the teachers count how many spots we need. I let the plebs do the hard work, I just tell them where to put their stuff and which stand is theirs”
After dinner everyone went to do their own things, and miraculously, everyone slept more than five hours that night, they all needed and deserved it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the days before the event, Wilbur studied by heart the speech, every now and then saying it out loud to be sure it sounded good.
As the festival got closer though, his stress and the pressure placed on him by teachers and students alike became more and more, heavier and heavier.
Until the day arrived, from when he woke up, he kept count of the hours and minutes that separated him from either a catastrophe, or a smooth speech.
He was scared of both of them equally.
Phil and Will were walking between the stands, Techno was laid off by the teachers a couple of minutes ago, so he caught up and joined them, Will couldn't help but notice the white shirt with the black and red diagonal line tie with golden hints that Techno was wearing, it looked very good on him, it made him look very fancy-
“HEY BITCHES!!!” Tommy waved energetically, embarrassing Tubbo and Deo, “COME TRY OUT THIS SHIT!”
“T-Tommy please don’t shout that…” Tubbo whispered.
Tommy’s class stand, judging by the que, was very popular, the flower’s extracts were attracting everyone, but Tommy just gave them access from behind the stand, the lavender extract ended up being very good.
“If you want I can do it at home too! I’m a- I’m an extract master now! Yeah!” Everyone laughed at Tommy’s confidence while enjoying the sweet hand-made drink.
~~~~~~~~
Will was scared, peeking from the black curtain, the sea of students and adults in front of the stage inside the gym building was infinite, Wilbur couldn't see the end.
He sat down and brought his knees to his chest, he was stressed, scared...how could he have been so confident until now? How did he manage to agree to this? Why-
“Are you there Will?” Phil’s voice made him bounce on his feet, making his head spin by the rushed actions.
Putting up a fake smile, he greeted his brothers “H-hello Boys! heh…”
“Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill!!! There are so many people out there! It’s the year before yours that’s giving the speech right now, aren’t you nervous?” Tommy was munching on the sour candy Techno had bought him to redeem himself from the time he stole his candy. Will was trying his hardest not to bite his lip or fiddle around with his shirt.
“I’m fine boys! Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing! eheh…”
Phil was looking at Will confused, his head tilted to one side.
“If you say so Will…” Techno was also skeptical about Will’s words… but he decided to believe his older brother, “Do your best out there, you know how to do it” His smile became a bit more sincere when listening to Techno's words.
The older one shook his head, “Don’t give me that bullshit Wilbur, c’mere” Phil grabbed the younger out of nowhere and embraced him as tightly as he could.
Wilbur was frozen by the shock, clenching his fists while trying not to cry. The younger two looked at him and then at each other, after nodding, they joined in on the hug.
After a minute of silence, Phil spoke up, “I know you’re nervous Wilbur, everyone would be” the warmth coming from his brothers was melting his stress away, their hugs making a wall around his body and head, he couldn't hear the outside noises anymore.
“I believe in you Will, I’m sure that once you get on that stage, everything will go smoothly just as you planned. Show the world you are stronger than your emotions” As they freed Wilbur from the brotherly… no, family hug, he was focused up and confident.
Techno placed a hand on his shoulder and mouthed “You got this” and followed the other two who were already out of Wilbur’s sight.
He took a deep breath as the voice on stage introduced him.
Here we go
He stepped on stage as cheers and claps filled the air, in the large crowd before him, he noticed his classmates and a couple of teachers, and of course, his brothers.
Phil was smiling with a thumbs up, Tommy was shouting “GO WILBUR GO!!!” while jumping up and down, Techno nodded and cracked a smile:
With his brothers by his side, he was ready to take on the whole world.

Comics this week (3/17/2021)?
Justice League #59: This issue feels like the biggest testament to the word that Infinite Frontier is just the interim before the real relaunch that’s coming, because there is zero pomp or circumstance here of the kind you’d expect even if you think Bendis sucks. Young Justice of all things felt weightier than this in its debut; this is perfectly passable mind you, but if it was anything less than Justice League I’d go “ok, this is one of those Bendis books I don’t care about” and pass it by. I’m pretty sure his more substantial plans for the title are being kept for a proper new #1 waiting in the wings, but in the meantime it’s a perfectly slick team book with a couple decent bits, a bunch of my favorite characters, and pretty Marquez/Bonvillain art so I’m fine with it. Obviously the V/Xermanico Justice League Dark backup was the highlight.
Superman: Red and Blue #1: Apparently a lot of Superman fans didn’t like this, which doesn’t surprise me - a lot of it is Clark beaten down, needing help, or otherwise on the back foot one way or another, and that triggers a lot of alarm bells for a certain type of stan at this point. For my money though these were almost all great, and I was even able to get the cover by the Final Fantasy logo artist Yoshitaka Amano.
* Ridley/Henry/Bellaire/Sharp: The big advertised presentation, I’ve been really curious in the wake of Other History what Ridley would do with a Superman solo story and this absolutely didn’t disappoint. A harrowing take on Clark as truly vulnerable and how his mindset shifts or doesn’t in response I’m kind of astonished DC let the team get away with, this came together wonderfully.
* Easton/Lieber/Chan/Cowles: The weakest of the bunch, a severe but moving tale contrasting Superman’s splashy adventures with his potential impact on those around him bookended by some much weaker stock “are you sure you’re doing enough?” material, though it’s absolutely beautiful under Lieber and Chan, especially the final page.
* Craig/Bennett: A fantastic little tale of parallels on the human scale existing in Superman’s wake, and while that material’s only front-and-center for a couple panels here I would kill to see Craig draw a big cosmic epic.
* Watters/Dani/Sharpe: The big standout aside from Ridley’s story, there’s kind of no excuse for this not having been the first feature of the issue given it’s about the gimmick of the format in a way that leads directly out of its inspiration in Batman: Black and White. I do wonder what colorblind readers would make of the message of this one though, even if I read it the point of what happened as extending beyond the literal physical. In any case, I desperately hope this and Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman won’t be the extent of Watters’ work in this territory.
* Bennett/Thompson/Peteri: A simple but sweet little story of a young Clark learning a formative lesson - don’t see the gimmick that often of having both caption boxes and thought balloons around for different purposes, and it’s one I’m always happy to see.
Nightwing #78: As a Taylor fan, gotta say, this sucks. Flat, twee, totally without narrative momentum or weight except for a single completely bonkers new element in Dick’s world I’ll discuss in another ask, and of all things for some reason a bizarrely shameless Fraction/Aja Hawkeye ripoff alongside its rote regurgitation of Dixon and Snyder. This is everything people who hate the guy’s (non-Injustice, non-DCeased) work think of it as, and Redondo, Lucas, and Abbott’s next level, jaw-droppingly gorgeous work here is crushingly wasted. I’m not sure I can judge this as a ‘failure’ when it’s absolutely going to succeed at its actual goals - not as a story even if I understand even more people are pulling it than the new JL, but as contextless panels to circulate around comics Twitter/Tumblr in perpetuity - but as someone who thought a lot of Taylor’s strengths have been often overlooked and was hoping he’d pull out of some of his worst habits, it’s such a downer to watch him dive in face-first. An instant drop.
Catwoman #29: Fully out of the Brubaker shadow for me at this point and into its own oddball take on crime in Gotham, it doesn’t seem to be attracting much heat but I hope the team gets the space to see its story through and I suspect this run will be looked back on very fondly as a hidden gem in years to come.
Batman vs. Ra’s Al Ghul #5: IT’S BACK BABY, AND LESS EXPLICABLE THAN EVER. So happy.
Captain America Anniversary Tribute #1: Actually picked this up for a friend of the family who was interested and it’ll be shipped to him later, but read it while we have it and it’s exactly what it says on the tin, so if a bunch of artists doing their spins on these pages appeals it’s perfectly worth your time.
Iron Man #7: I continue to be unable to believe in the best way that this is what the ongoing Iron Man comic is about now.
S.W.O.R.D. #4: Alright, alright, alright - probably the weakest issue so far (which is to say it’s still a lot of fun by most any other books’ standard), but we’re past the King In Black of it all and ready to get into the promise of that debut.
Radiant Black #2: I was really concerned whether this would live up to the promise of the first issue or immediately begin to decline, but I’m happy to report that so far this seems like it’s leaning into its better aspects even if the superheroism remains the weaker half, and I’m still curious to see where this goes.
Abbott 1973 #3: Picked up some after the last issue was losing me, I’m back in the tank for the remaining couple.
Orphan and the Five Beasts #1: Stokoe doing kung-fu horror, madness, and righteous vengeance, an easy win.
Ultramega #1: I was skeptical about this one - I’d barely heard of James Harren even as folks were suddenly talking as if him doing work was long understood as a must-see, the preview didn’t especially grab me, and this didn’t seem to much stand out to me among the increasing surge of toku-inspired material. I was ready for the hype to betray me, but while I’ve seen a critique of this as a sausage-fest unwittingly or otherwise building a lot of its narrative on the pain and death of mothers I’d like to see femme or nonbinary critics unpack further, as a reading experience (prior to seeing said critique) this absolutely blew me away. Incredibly dense even at 60 pages - where a lot of those are splash pages no less - beautifully disgusting, gut-wrenching even aside from the pages with guts being wrenched, monumental, and mysterious, a tale of what happens when we’re let down by the men forced into the role of godling-saviors and what happens next. That Harren mentions in the afterward that this is the first comic he’s written is as remarkable as its is infuriating.

Roman’s Season 13 Meet the Queens - First Impression & Placing Predictions
Tumblr media
Hi everyone! Great to be back for a new season so soon! My review and prediction for each queen, in order of appearance on Meet the Queens, just behind the jump:
DENALI
Gorgeous look, creative, nice mug. Energy giving me a bit Aja, a bit Phi Phi O'Hara. Energetic and positive-to-neutral seeming. My prediction: 7th. Not one of the weakest queens right away, but might get unlucky on several challenges.
ELLIOTT WITH 2 TS
Energy similar to Blair St Clair. Her look is somewhat dramatic, especially if she's known as a dancer. Might be charming or might be argumentative, hard to tell. I'm charmed by her, but she might be divisive.
My prediction: 10th, following several lipsyncs. Early challenges unlikely to play in her wheelhouse unless we get an early Rusical.
GOTTMIK
The strongest look so far in my opinion. She (pronouns?) will have the storyline as a trans queen to go far, unless Ru or Michelle haven't moved with the times as much as we hope they have. Besides her gender storyline, she seems a very stylised and fun queen. She's giving me a little of Adore Delano and Lemon from CDR1. She's cinched well in this promo look which is also incredibly creative, not to mention her metal (?) wig.
My prediction: 3rd/4th
JOEY JAY
Another top look, I love her punk image. Looks a little like Pink (the singer). The impression of being more masc in drag is a fun spin and might play as a story for her. Not wearing a wig guarantees she'll come to blows with Michelle and Ru. Perhaps she'll change during the show.
I feel she may clash with the judges, because her personality seems abrasive and like she won't scare easily, which they tend not to like e.g. Acid Betty, Thorgy. I like her a lot, but I feel she might not be long for it. My prediction: 8th
KAHMORA HALL
Right away she seems extremely likeable. She will likely get on with the judges and be a fan favourite. Jackie Cox jumps out as a personality comparison, or Jujubee. Her look and mug are strong and polished, with an edge of being somewhat more creative. The combination of kindness, low self-confidence, and somewhat shadiness is very well-rounded personality-wise for tv. I think unless things go dreadfully wrong, Ru should really like her which should help her go far. My prediction: 5th
KANDY MUSE
Straight away, really funny. This season's meme queen or Vanjie. She's likely to create a lot of soundbites throughout the season. A queen very ready for tv. Mug is pretty good, a little unusual with what she's doing with the eyes and colour scheme. I feel like she might struggle in sewing challenges. At the same time, I feel like she probably won't be the worst at a lot of challenges, which will see her far enough to keep going. My prediction: 6th
LALA RI
Charming, but probably one of the weaker queens we've seen so far. Going for the soundbites like Joslyn Fox type of the season. Her look is nice and mug polished, but not one of the more dramatic looks served for this MTQ. Ability to do choreo means she might be able to save herself if she falls early into the B2. I wonder if she might do ok in acting challenges too though because her personality is quite likeable. Or she might go to pieces. My tentative prediction: 9th, going out in a lipsync to a top competitor.
OLIVIA LUX
Charming also. Jersey will tie her to Michelle Visage. Says that she can do a bit of everything, but her energy is very much giving me Brita Filter. I feel like if she does worse than she expects she will, she might crumble. Her look is fairly polished, but she admits to being a baby queen. I'm not super convinced by some of the claims she makes in this interview. My prediction: 12th
ROSÉ
Seems quite funny and charming. Will pink be her theme? Like some other queens here, she is a jack of all trades and should be strong, unless something throws her off. The fact she has old references should play well with Ru. Her mug and look are quite natural. I don't love her promo gown, but I think that's a style note rather than a quality note. She seems intelligent, too. A nerves/anxiety storyline might be on the cards for her. Seems like a finalist. The fact that she's political will also play really well for her. My prediction: Top 2
SYMONE
One of the most creative looks we've seen here, with that Medusa-esque wig. Her accessories and jewels are good. Claims to like fashion but also to show a lot of skin, this might be a getout clause. She also likes old references and black heroes, which should play decently well with Ru. Seems very self-assured. I believe her. She does give me Jaida energy to an extent, and she seems like she'll be a strategic player. Hopefully a finalist. My prediction: 3rd/4th
TAMISHA IMAN
The second half of the mother-daughter pair with LaLa Ri. There's no way these two aren't cast in order to B2 against each other at some point. Tamisha's style is good, if a little old-fashioned perhaps. Sewing skills should get her through the first week or the first design challenge, but she may be held to a higher standard because of her experience. An unsuitable lipsync song will probably be the end of her. My prediction: 11th.
TINA BURNER
Extremely charming, a comedy queen, and seems like precisely the type they've been aiming to capture with the disqualified queen last year. Energy-wise, very similar to that queen, minus the criminal elements. Also she has elements of Bianca Del Rio and Ginger Minj, but more respectful. Also some elements of Katya to her. Her mug and wig are great, very 60s with pop art elements. Hard to tell how big she is, but I think she's cinched. Should get on with the judges, and be saved from lipsyncs. My prediction: Top 2.
UTICA QUEEN
Her Meet the Queens image is right away a little one-note. I like her look. She seems very divisive and like she's trying to be a meme queen. Queens she reminds me of include Miss Fame, Jade Jolie and Dusty Ray Bottoms. From this video, I'm not sure she's quite ready for Drag Race, although she has potential. I can't think from what she said of what challenges she might do particularly well or badly at. I don't predict she'll make it to Snatch Game. My prediction: 13th - first out, unless there's a twist where they suspend lipsync for your life.
FINAL PREDICTED RANKING OF ALL QUEENS IN ORDER:
TOP 2: Tina Burner and Rosé 3rd/4th: Symone and Gottmik 5th: Kahmora Hall 6th: Kandy Muse 7th: Denali 8th: Joey Jay 9th: LaLa Ri 10th: Elliott With 2 Ts 11th: Tamisha Iman 12th: Olivia Lux 13th: Utica Queen

Brick by Brick // Peter Parker
Tumblr media
Peter Parker x Reader
Word Count: 1.8k
Warnings: None
Summary: Tony wants Peter to train with you so he can understand his powers better, but also not rely on them all the time. You’re very distant and stoic but Peter is determined to break down your walls, brick by brick
next>>>>>
Tony knew Peter didn’t understand his power, the brute strength he had. He was worried that if Peter didn’t learn how to utilize and control all of his powers soon, he could hurt someone or even worse hurt himself. Before Tony would let that happen, he found you. You were the key to helping Peter.
“Let’s get you training.” Mr. Stark clapped his hand onto Peters back, guiding him down a set of stairs, “I’ve got someone for you to meet. I think she can really help you understand your power.”
“S-she?” Peter's voice cracked. He wasn’t great at interacting with anyone, but the opposite sex was a completely different ballgame. And Peter didn’t even play sports.
Tony laughed, “There’s nothing to worry about, kid. She’ll be nice.” He mumbled more or less to himself, “Hopefully.”
“Mr. Stark?”
Tony could see the worry in those soft brown eyes, “I’m kidding.” He tried to comfort his protégée.
Whenever Tony sensed Peter was more nervous than usual he tried to call him down by talking with him about normal things. Chemistry and tech, subjects that didn’t impact superheroes. He used that technique now while traversing through his complex compound.
“I don’t understand, why am I training?” Peter shrugged, “My skills don’t really require training.” he finally brought up the subject again.
Tony’s face landed in his palm, “If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a hero just wait until you’re done with your trainer. She’s going to kick your ass.”
“I dunno Mr. Stark, I think I could handle anything at this point.” He looked down and spoke under his breath, “Anything but girls.”
“Here we are.” Tony’s hand dropped from Peters back and gestured to the glass doors in front of them, “Through those doors, you’ll meet y/n, she’ll be living here so you can have access to her 24/7.” His playful tone quickly shifted into seriousness, “Be nice, it was different to get her here.” He pushed Peter towards the glass doors.
“Yo-you’re not going to introduce us? Or umm, ya know, walk me in?” Peter tried to fight off Tony’s pushing.
“You got it, kid.” Leaving Peter with a pat on the back, Tony walked back up the stairs.
Taking a deep breath Peter reminded himself that this was just training, he could do it. He gripped the handle, opened the door and slid into the gym. Except it wasn’t really a gym.
There were computers, cement blocks, web-shooters, screens, and designs. Even what he assumed to be a small medical area.
Peter's eyes stopped once he saw you. Your face was tight, jaw clenched. You’re hair in a slicked-back ponytail, he could tell by the way you walked you had confidence. Not a regular teenage girl has confidence, you looked like you could kill someone just by staring at them. He could tell because that’s the way he felt when you saw him walk in. Peter felt as though your stare was peering into his very soul.
“Peter Parker, you look different than your file photo.” Your voice was loud and powerful, quite a contrast from your small stature.
Peter tried to reciprocate a dominant voice, but cracked his voice mid-sentence, “Y-you have my file?”
You sat down on a small black couch, Peter missed it in his initial glance over the gym, “Have a seat,” your petite hand patted the sofa. “We need to go through your abilities.”
Peter cantered to the leather couch, sitting down a decent distance from where your hand was. He exhaled for the first time since walking into the gym.
You pressed a button and all of Peter's information popped up in front of them. “So you’ve got superhuman strength, we’ll need to test how strong you really are.” You began typing in the air. Peter watched the list come to life, “Also your endurance, it doesn’t matter how strong you are, if you can’t keep it up for very long.”
“Yeah, ok. When do we start?” His legs were bouncing up and down.
“You’re very anxious Mr. Parker.” You mused.
Peter's face flushed with redness, “You don’t um.” Rubbing the back of his neck he looked into your eyes, “How old are you?”
“17, same as you.” You spoke matter of factly.
His hands were getting clammy now, Mr. Stark never said his trainer was going to be a teenage girl, “Well, if you’re, ya know. If you’re a teenager you don’t have to call me Mr. Parker-”
“What would you prefer me to call you?” She interrupted.
His voice was rushed, “Peter, Peter is fine. What about you? What should I call you?” He wiped away the sweat onto his denim jeans.
Without hesitation, your toneless voice echoed throughout the room, “My name is y/n, but you can call me whatever you please. Now let's get to work.”
You walked with grace and poise, while Peter stumbled through the unfamiliar area. He followed you into the medical corner.
“What's all this?” Peter's stomach twisted.
You began tying on a computer, proceeded to look Peter up and down, and continue looking at the screen.
Peter used his hands to cover his body, “What are you doing?”
You pulled a sphygmomanometer from a drawer, “I’ll need your blood pressure and we’ll need to wire you up so I can see your stats while you’re training.”
“Oh.” Peter pushed his sleeve up for the sphygmomanometer.
Day one of training consisted of you picking Peter's brain about his powers, seeing what he knew he was capable of. Peter tried to answer the questions well, but he was so stressed with the circumstances of this girl knowing every detail about his life.
You sat him down again after a few tests and wrote out a timeline. Mondays and Wednesdays were for power control. Tuesdays and Thursdays were hand to hand combat. Friday and Saturday were rest days, except you refuse to stop working so you’d be working on suits and web-shooters, any tech that would improve SpiderMan.
Peter dropped onto his bed, he ripped his sweaty shirt off and laid there. Just contemplating what the next few weeks were going to be like.
You were so stoic and cold, he wished you were more warm and welcoming. It was hard enough that you were a girl who is the same age as him, but being so put off-ish wasn’t going to help the situation. He needed to become comfortable with you quick.
After trying to come up with some solutions Peter gave up and decided it best to call May.
“You’ve gotta hang out with her outside of training Peter. Maybe introduce her to some of your friends, let her see you as Peter Parker, not Spider-man.” May's voice was calm and sweet.
Running his fingers through his curly knots Peter mumbled into the phone, “She’s intimidating, I don’t really want to hang out with her unless I have too.”
His jaw clenched when he heard May laughing, “Every teenage girl is intimidating. You’ve gotta be yourself, show her all of you’re great attributes when you spend quality time together.”
“I’ll try.” Peter huffed.
“Keep me posted. Love you.”
Peter rolled his eyes, “Love you too, May.”
The next morning, Peter tried to get you to talk about yourself. He asked you question after question. You only answered a handful of them, your answers were concise and distant. It was clear that you thought you were better than him. Peter would have to earn your respect.
He planned to.
During his short lunch break, he devised a plan to show you he wasn’t just some random kid that got bit by a spider giving him powers. He was going to prove that he didn’t need powers or the suit to be a good superhero.
“You ready for hand to hand?” The excitement in your voice shocked Peter.
“You like hand to hand, huh?” He tried to continue the conversation.
Your stoic face softened into a small grin, “It’s my favorite, you get to see how much a person relies on their tech and powers when they are fighting raw.”
Peter took off his jacket revealing perfectly toned biceps. Your cheeks shifted from snow white into a baby pink. “Ok then let’s do this. I have to warn you though, I really don’t have much experience with this.”
You laughed, a real happy laugh. He could see the sparkle in your eyes. For once you looked gentle and beautiful. He quickly shoved that thought out of his head. “On the mats, Parker.”
The two of you were in your stances. You say go and Peter lunges at you. Being light on your feet you dodge his body completely. Peter managed to safe the fall and spin around. You were already across the ring, watching his fighting style if you can even call it fighting you knew he was offensive. Maneuvering around his lean body was easy, whenever the kid was around you he was a train wreck.
To put Peter out of his misery you finally switched from defense to offense and punched him in the abdomen. Expect he seemed to hardly be affected by it, normally you could knock the air out of someone with that punch. He just stood there, looking confused as ever.
“Get up, your form sucks.” You grabbed his arm and pulled the kid up. “Want a towel, you’re sweating like a pig.”
Peter jumped off the mat and grabbed two towels, “Here.”
Wiping the sweat from your neck, you stretched, “God, it’s so hot. I can’t do this, Tony needs to work on AC down here.” Before Peter could look away you pulled your shirt off. Revealing your slim figure, the tight blue sports bra makes your eyes pop.
“Okay.” Peter did his best to not look you up and down, but how could he not? You were stunning.
You pushed Peter, he wobbled but didn’t fall. “See, stance.”
“Pushing me isn’t going to help, ya know.” He couldn’t even make eye contact with you.
“Keep tension here,” you placed your hand on his abdomen. He looked into your eyes, you could see the curiosity and hunger in them, “Your feet are too far apart, get them shoulder-width apart.” Backing away you faced the boy, “Throw a punch.”
“What?”
You rolled your eyes, “Throw a punch Parker, I need to see it.”
“But, but I could hurt you?” His voice cracked in frustration.
You fisted your hand and threw your hand towards Peter. You looked up and your jaw dropped, he caught your punch. Seconds later you were flipped over and your back was on the floor.
“As I said, I can hurt you. I know I don’t look like I can lift 10 tons, but I can.” He left you on the mats to grab his water.
You stood up and watched him throw his shirt over his head, and scrunch his sweaty hair. You couldn’t help but stare at his perfectly sculpted body. “Damn,” you breathed.
“I’m done for today.” He barked as he pushed the glass doors open and walked out.
You fell back onto the mat and looked into the fluorescent lights. Somehow you were falling for Peter Parker.

Dear Yuletide Author
You are amazing, and thank you so much for this!
I have details for each specific request below the general things.  So, General Things:
My prompts are just that, prompts to get your brain spinning.  If you have a great idea for a fic that isn’t on the prompts, or one of them sends you off on a tangent, write that!  The best fics come from what moves the author.
For general guidelines, though - I love plot.  I love something interesting and canonical going on that I can really sink my teeth into.  If you write that, and you’re not into slash/ship, then that is amazing and makes my Yule.  I love writing that fills in the world of these wonderful fandoms.  There’s nothing better than a little line or unexpected note that answers a question that canon didn’t - what’s the bathroom like?  What do they drink in the morning?  How do they get the news?
I like first-time fic.  I love a lot of UST and slow burn and people unable to just say what they’re feeling, until something happens and it does.
I’m a physical H/C FIEND.  I love some nice bloody hurt and some nice stoic comfort. I love that combined with the above.
I love a crusty old bastard with a heart of gold.  Even if they happen to be young (a young person can pull off a Crusty Old Bastard if they put the work into it).  It’s my kink.
I love explicit, in-character sex.  If you’re feeling sex, bring that on!  Bring on every bit of sex, good and bad - teeth bumping, coming too fast because this has been such a long burn, santorum, sweat and hot kisses and oral leading to anal or whatever.  Bring it on.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within (Video Game)
I came to this game as an old-school player of XCom:UFO Defense. I really love the narrative additions that they made, and particularly Bradford as a character. I found Zhang and Durand to be great additions to this game too! I particularly love Durand's dialog on missions. She's such a goofy deadly little kid. I like the vague hints at Zhang's past, and would really love to explore that more.
I couldn't choose 'all of XCom' as a fandom, so I chose EW. My 'stretch' ask, then, is for some inclusion of the Legacy missions, XCom 2, and/or War of the Chosen with Zhang/Bradford slash - I love the development of XCom as a guerilla group, I love the classes (particularly Rangers!). I love that Bradford was a Ranger and that he fought as one in Legacy and 2. I'd love to see where Zhang was in 2, maybe even a reunion after the events of 2 and before/during Chimera Squad.
If you're looking to write just EW, that would be fantastic too! I'd very much like some in-EW Bradford/Zhang slash. I'm not one for PWP; I love a good juicy narrative. I love the canon, as discussed above, and would really like a fic that builds off of canon. And there's so much! The downtime between missions and the rapid gear-up for them. Bradford trying to figure out anything about Zhang. Zhang and Durand training - Zhang has the experience killing people but no experience with psionic powers, while powers and fighting are both new to Durand, so there's a lot of possibility there. In-mission and/or post-mission fic. Fic during/after the Base Invasion or the Final Mission. Testing out stuff that Shen is making. Being tested by Vahlen. Or anything else you want to explore!
If you're not into slash, that would be fantastic too! I love a good juicy genfic with a lot of great narrative. All of the stuff I mentioned above! If you want to write a fic from the PoV of some random soldier, that'd be delightful too! Or any canon exploration/gapfiller that grabs you that you want to write!
Do Not Want: Durand/Bradford shipping. I just don't see them as a couple at all and the age difference wigs me. I'm fine with them interacting; in fact, one of the things I love about Durand is how much of an Excited Little Kid she is on the missions! So an older battle-hardened dude helping settle her down and give some guidance would be a nice plotline, and platonic affection would be totally good. Ditto Durand/Zhang - platonic relationship is great, just not romantic/sexual.
Too much Commander. I realize that's a little vague, but since the Commander is the headspace of the player, having too much of their thoughts might pull me out? I'm fully there with the Commander being present to direct missions, chatting around with people, being supportive of characters during the fic, serving as Commander Ex Machina to move the plot along, things like that.
Scat/piss play (I'm fine with playing with the blood (human and/or alien) and sweat of battle as being either potentially sexy or a strange counterpoint to sexiness)
Out-of-character-ness
Homophobia/transphobia/racism by the main characters. As a gay trans dude, I am very down with any of them being gay/trans/queer/etc and experiencing it, and I'm even OK if they accidentally find that some of their activities are - but just no overt, knowing bigotry. (Bradford does have xenophobic tendencies, and I'd actually find that a cool angle to explore, as I think he's a fundamentally decent guy who's had a fuck of a time and suffers from some degree of toxic masculinity.)
XCOM 2 (Video Game)
I came to this game as an old-school player of XCom:UFO Defense. I really love the narrative additions that they made, and particularly Bradford as a character. I love the world of XCom2 - they do such a wonderful job of building Advent's Stepford Cities, the scattered resistance havens, XCom as a guerilla group, the Speaker, the various aliens, the Chosen, the classes of warriors, Lily Shen's badassery, Dr Tygan's smooth stoicism, Advent Burgers (ARE PEOPLE!) - all of it!
I couldn't choose 'all of XCom' as a fandom, so I chose XCom2. My 'stretch' ask, then, is for inclusion of some EW plotlines - particularly Zhang, because I loved him as a character. I love me some Braford/Zhang slash, so if you want to pull him in - see what he was doing in parallel at the time, or reunion after 2/during Chimera Squad - I would be just delighted.
If you're not into writing that or didn't play EW, an XCom2 fic would be fantastic! I loved Legacy, I loved 2 (with the missions Shen and Bradford do), I loved WotC. There's so much there! I love that Bradford was a Ranger (I'd be delighted for fics of him getting down and dirty and bloody with a sword), I loved that Tygan had a Thing for Advent Burgers, I loved that Bradford got mad that the wrappers kept getting left around. I loved that Shen and Tygan kept giving Bradford shit for his flying. I think it's interesting that Bradford turned alcoholic after the base invasion, and I'd be interested in explorations of that, and if he started to get control of it when the Avenger took off and things started to go well. I love the Skirmishers, I love Mox - I'd love some more of their backstory, and/or how things go for them after the events of the game. (Generally, any Adaption To Civilian Life And Living Amongst The Aliens sort of fic really tickles me). If you want to write a fic from the PoV of some random soldier, that'd be delightful too! Or even the PoV of a young civilian who has known nothing but Advent and slowly realizes what's going on. Basically, anything that fleshes out/extends/expands the wonderful rich canon of this game.
Do Not Want: Shen/Bradford shipping. I love love love them as a Surly Old Loving Dad and Spunky Smart Loving Kid, so I love that dynamic, and would love to read some of them awkwardly expressing their mutual affection on that level, but just no to romance or sex.
Ship Series - Anne McCaffrey
What can I say, I'm a Helva/Niall shipper. That being said, I think there's a lot that's dysfunctional about their relationship. The way chastity is valued so highly, the way that she thinks of herself as a chaste armored Valkyrie (the armor protecting her equally from both sex and physical harm). The awkwardness around any thought of physical contact - and yes, it's dangerous for her to be outside of the shell, but there are so many workarounds. Her shell is wired for sensation, after all, there's no reason that creative ways to make love to a ship couldn't be played with. And they never do anything around physical intimacy with their mental connection, even though it's explicitly written that Helva can sense what Niall does.
I'm also very skeeved by the way she turns off his hologram after he's dead. The hologram seems to have some degree of independent thought, the way it's written. Is it a sentient AI, perhaps? Or did he fully transfer to her subconscious after his body died, and this is his way of having some consciousness? None of these issues were explored, and I'd be delighted if you want to give them a go.
I'm also totally down with fics that don't go into the side of things I laid out above. I'd be delighted for mission fics, gapfillers, fics where they have to deal with Central Command. Action and adventure!
I'd love fics that explore some of the issues of toxic straight culture and toxic masculinity. These characters are great and interesting and flawed, and I love fics that acknowledge and embrace the flaws.
Also, I'm fully down with Niall being written as trans and/or bi/pan, if that strikes your fancy (and if you want to put that into the She Can Sense What He Does context). I know he's represented as being with women a lot, but I'd love a subversion of that as being down to some toxic straight culture (already abundant evidence for that in canon!) and/or overcompensation for being the butt of the flavor of toxic masculinity that considers short stature to be a deficit in men.
Do not want: True downplaying of short guys. Niall is sensitive about being tinchy, but I don't want that written as something that's actually, objectively wrong with him. As a short trans guy, I'm on board with him expressing that insecurity, I'm fine with stories playing with that insecurity, I'd awfully like a fic where the insecurity is helped to some extent.
Scat/piss play
Out-of-character-ness
Lucky Starr - Isaac Asimov
What can I say? Never has 1950s sensibility lead to a more homoerotic set of stories!
That being said, I also love how scientifically based it is. That's what I want from this fandom - a true Lucky Starr fic that is solidly grounded in some real science, and has some of the real science come back as part of the Twist Ending. If you want to put some explicit Lucky/Bigman slash in there, I'd be delighted. But if you don't, a gen Lucky Starr story is already pretty damn slashy to me. :)
I love the whole world. I love the Sirians and all of the biological 'lessons' their perceived but not-actual superiority could represent. I love Sten insulting Bigman and Bigman getting his own. I'd love more exploration of Sten's comment about Lucky making an excellent Sirian.
I'd be delighted with a fic that explores the paucity of females in-universe, particularly in positions of leadership. Ditto a fic that explores how white and US/European the culture is.
I particularly love the Bigman/Yonge friendship. Although Yonge is technically the Ideal Tall Strong Man, he'd be a little at sea now that he's left Sirius - he doesn't know the society, the norms, the conventions. I'd love to explore their friendship a little more, with Yonge getting over all he's been indoctrinated to believe about Sirian Superiority. Particularly since that gets at a very valid biological point, to tie into the scientific underpinnings of Lucky Starr episodes!
If you want to write either Yonge, Bigman, or both as gay, I'd find that an interesting fic for sure! Although my preference is Lucky/Bigman, I'm interested in a Bigman/Yonge, especially if it leads to Lucky/Bigman. :)
If you want to write Bigman as trans, I'm totally down with that.
Do not want: True downplaying of short guys. I know there's a fair bit of that in canon, beyond just Bigman's sensitivity about it, but I don't want that written as something that's actually, objectively wrong with him. As a short trans guy, I'm on board with him expressing that insecurity, I'm fine with stories playing with that insecurity, I'd awfully like a fic where the insecurity is helped to some extent. I'm fine with canon-level teasing of him about it, but always in the context of Lucky genuinely caring for him and him bringing real value to Lucky's work.
Scat/piss play
Out-of-character-ness
Homophobia/transphobia/racism by the main characters. As a gay trans dude, I am very down with any of them being gay/trans/queer/etc and experiencing it, and even if they accidentally find that some of their activities are, but just no overt, knowing bigotry.

Chapter 3- The Plan
Summary: you had been in this relationship for far too long. Brock was cruel, manipulative, controlling, and possessive. It had gotten to the point where he was the only person in your life. He had forced you to quit the job you loved and worked so hard for. Made you choose him over life long friends. And one day, you finally had enough.
A/N: Uh... this is a long chapter. I literally have no plan for this story so... please enjoy the mess that is this story. I also wanted to note that bits of this are based on an abusive relationship I was in. AND I know PTSD is a bitch, and often you don’t really open up to people this fast. I’m just impatient.... :)
Potential Clem x Avenger
Wanda x Clementine (platonic)
Wanda x Steve (barely there)
Warnings: swearing, PTSD, abusive relationship (past), Stress-induced weight loss (and talk of it).... I think thats it?
(gif does not belong to me)
Tumblr media
There is a plan in place, you thought as you breathed. Bucky had suggested you try meditating to deal with the stress since you weren’t allowed in the gym still. So you were trying. Allow thoughts to come, and let them go, you told yourself, struggling to not overthink what was to come.  I am not a pawn, I am a teammate. I am in control- if I say no, I do not have to participate.  They will not allow any harm to come to me. I am going to be okay. I can heal.
You repeated the mantras in your mind and was surprised when the gentle timer went off, telling you 30 minutes had gone by. You took one more deep breath and began to get ready for the day.
Tony had given you money (way too much of it) to buy a new wardrobe and you got to go shopping today with Wanda and Steve (they were practically inseparable now), Natasha, and to your surprise, Sam. You threw on a pair of leggings and a sweater you had borrowed, from who, you had no idea. You braided your long hair back and Wanda put a touch of makeup on you.
You hadn’t left the Avenger’s compound in over a week- add in the fact that you were naturally a bit anxious, going out was nerve-wracking. What if Brock followed you? (Sam brought his little falcon flyer, so it wasn’t likely). What if Brock had someone working with him and they were following you? (Well, again falcon and the entire Shield database along with the entire world). What if-
“Clem! You HAVE to try this on!” Wanda yelled from a few racks of clothing away, “Right now!” She flung the dress at you which landed on your face.
“Like I have a choice,” you murmured.
“What was that?” Natasha asked, smirking.
“I said I love this color,” you stated nonchalantly.
You closed the door to the changing room and took off your clothing and put the dress on. You hadn’t realized it was open back and was suddenly even more self-conscious than you would have been otherwise.
“Let’s see it then,” Wanda called.
You took a deep breath and opened the door.
Sam and Steve’s jaws dropped. The plunging neckline on the navy dress made your boobs look awesome, however, you weren’t used to showing this much skin- Brock never let you.
Natasha and Wanda began hooting and hollering and commanded you to do a spin.
You took another deep breath, and span slowly, allowing the tulle of the dress to flare out around you.
“Don’t you love it?” Wanda asked.
“Y-yeah I do... I just, the scars on my back, I hate them.” You answered honestly.
To everyone’s surprise, it was Sam that approached you.
“May I?” he asked quietly.
You nodded and when his fingers danced along your back, your breath hitched. You weren’t used to kind, gentle touches. You sighed lightly as he traced the scars running all over.
“Look,” he said, pulling you so that you could see your back in the mirror. “You may hate them, and you have every right to. But they tell a story. Right now that story seems bleak, and you may have little hope, but it will get better. There are quite a few vets in my support group that have struggled with scars from their time serving-”
“But those are literal war heroes, Sam,” you interrupted, a little louder than you had meant.
“And so are you,” He stepped so that he was facing you, hands gently on your shoulders, “You’ve faced a kind of horror that I cannot even imagine. But, there is no good in comparing trauma. Trauma is trauma even if it looks different for someone else. Okay?” He asked, searching your eyes for confirmation.
You nodded, “Okay, Sam.”
“Okay. Now, some of these guys have gotten tattoos over their scars. If you are interested, I could get the number for the artist? At least it will give you something to think about- why not create something beautiful out of something that was horrible to experience?”
Sam swiped his thumb over your cheeks, wiping away the tears that managed to escape.
“Thank you, Sam,” you whispered. “I would love that.”
The rest of the shopping experience went wonderfully. Sam and Steve were joking around together, otherwise, Steve was oggling Wanda as she tried on clothes and Sam was reassuring you when he noticed you got anxious.
When you all got back home, Wanda and Nat helped you put everything away. You were staring at the navy gown Wanda made you try on and forced you to buy when Tony came in.
“How are my girls doing today?” He asked cheerfully.
“Good,” the three of you said in unison.
“Ah, I see you finally got a decent wardrobe,” Tony observed as he walked through your closet. He stopped in front of you and took the dress from your hands. “Good! You got something for the party next week!” he exclaimed, “However, this needs... something. I’m going to take this and you are going to be in awe when I bring it back!”
As soon as Tony finished talking he was gone, and you were confused.
Nat noticed (of course she did, you thought), “Don’t worry, Tony is dramatic and wants everything to always be spectacular.”
The next day you had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Cho, who said you were good to do light work-outs.
As you were leaving, she called out to you, “Have you thought about seeing the therapist?”
“I have,” you stated simply, smiling.
“Good.”
After that, you finally got the guts to call the therapist and set up an appointment.
You put on the workout gear you had bought for yourself, which you were much more comfortable in- leggings, sports bra, high neck tank top, training shoes. When you got to the gym, you began by doing some light stretches, music playing lightly in your ears. After stretching, you used some light hand weights to ease your arms into the idea of strength training. That was a goal you set for yourself in your first therapy appointment.
Your therapist was a kind, rather young looking woman. She seemed very put together and at first, you were self-conscious. Why would someone like her believe you? But then, you both began some idle chit-chat and after a while, Maria suggested starting slow and asked you to tell her one random fact about yourself. It didn’t matter how personal it was, it didn’t matter how random, or casual it was, as long as it was something.
“I hate the way I look. Because of everything I've been through, I’ve lost a lot of weight, and it scares me,” You said, shocked with yourself.
“Thank you for sharing that with me, Clementine. Stress-induced weight loss is something that happens to a lot of people, and the way you feel about it is completely normal. Please don’t feel pressured, but why don’t you take a minute, a day, a week or two- I don’t care how long you need, and think of a goal that would allow you to reclaim your body.”
You nodded and thought for a few minutes when you realized you knew what you wanted to do. “I want to learn how to protect myself and I want to do strength training.”
“Wonderful,” Maria said with a soft smile. “Just remember to take it slow. You have all the time in the world to work on this, and rushing will just cause more frustration and stress than need be, okay?”
When you promised you’d go slow, she said that, unless there was anything you wanted to talk about, she felt like you had made a great first step and ended the session.
So here you were, using 5 lb hand weights, feeling like a loser around all the superheroes and agents.
“It’s okay,” you whispered to yourself, “my timetable is different than the person next to me.” Then you felt eyes on you- familiar, unkind eyes. You didn’t even wait to look around to confirm what you felt in your bones. Instead, you walked straight to Bucky and Steve sparring. They noticed you right away and ended their session.
“What's wrong?”  Steve asked.
“I think he’s here,” you whispered, “Please don’t make a scene. I need one of you to walk me out of here, and I need the other to stay.”
They sprung into very casual action right away. Bucky put his arm around you, and you joked about him smelling bad. Steve stretched a bit, looking around and pulled out his phone, probably texting Tony.
You and Bucky came across Sam heading to the gym and Bucky quickly whispered something to him, who then nodded in affirmative before giving you a soft smile.
Once you were in the elevator, Bucky filled you in.
“Sam has Falcon keeping an eye on things and will be making sure no one is following us. FRIDAY is keeping watch all over the facility and the others are putting their spy skill to good use. Everything's gonna be ok, doll.”
“Okay. It’s going to be fine,” you said to yourself, “it's going to be ok...”
“Hey, Clem?” Bucky interrupted you, noticing the beginnings of a potential panic attack. You looked up into his icy blue eyes and actually felt like you might be okay. “I was real impressed with you back in the gym. You realized you might be in danger, stuck to protocol, and fucking gave two Avengers commands,” he said chuckling.
You noticed a light dancing in his eyes, distracting you a little bit, “uh, thanks Bucky..”
“I’m serious. Steve and I were both formulating plans, both of us ready to rip someone's head off, and you just knew exactly what to do. Ya did good.”
This time you just smiled and the elevator doors opened to the Avengers private wing where Wanda was waiting for the both of you.
“Clem!” She sighed, “Thank god your safe!” She said taking your hand.
“Was he there?” You asked, surprised at how strong your voice was.
Wanda nodded slightly, “Yeah, he was. Nat is tailing him and FRIDAY is currently checking everyone in that gym for connections to Rumlow and keeping an eye on them.”
You nodded, and then rested your forehead on Bucky’s arm, letting out a breath and then breathing in the pine-like scent that helped you feel okay.
Later, Tony announced the opening of a new, Avenger only gym. Apparently, it had been in the works for a while now and he was waiting to surprise everyone- but felt it was better to unveil now.
“I even added some lighter weights for you, Clem,” Tony added with a wink before leaving.
“Speaking of working out, Bucky, I was wondering if I could as a favor of you?” You began slowly, not sure if you could ask.
“Anything,” Bucky replied, taking your hand in his.
“Will you teach me self-defence?” You asked, brows curved up, eyes wide.
Bucky thought he might die right then and there, “Hell yes,” he agreed.
That night, Sam was in charge of making dinner, so you sat on a stool and kept him company. You always enjoyed yourself around him- he was witty, quick on his feet, extremely kind, and had a way of reassuring you even you didn’t understand.
Sam was now cackling as he explained how, during the fight at the Germany airport, small Peter Parker just, grabs Bucky’s fist, mid punch and just oggles his arm before going back to fighting.
“T-the look o-on B-bucky’s face was PRICELESS,” Sam finally chokes out.
After that, the laughter died down and you helped stir the pasta sauce while Sam mad his momma’s homemade meatballs.
“Clem?” Sam, said, breaking the silence.
“Hm?” you hummed, allowing the aroma of a home-cooked meal to fill you.
“Which do you prefer, mountains or the beach?” he asked, his eyes crinkling slightly.
“Mountains. They’ve always been the only place I feel safe.” you paused, only for a moment. “What about you?”
“Beach, can’t do all the bugs in the mountains,” he said, chuckling.
“What?!” you said, incredulous. “A big, tough Avenger can’t handle a few bugs?” You shook your head, a joking expression on your face. “Beaches are pretty great, too, I guess.”
You both filled the rest of the time preparing dinner by asking what the other preferred, and by the end, you were shocked just how much Sam had opened up to you.
Sam called everyone to dinner when Tony gently grabbed you and started pulling you away from Sam. “Clem, dear, you have to go- just for a little bit. Bucky is going to take you, I  am so sorry but I can’t tell you why, but yes it has to do with the current operation.”
You blinked, trying to take it all in, and nodded as Tony shoved some stuff into your hands and got you into the elevator where Bucky was already waiting for you.
You put on the jacket, hat, and sweatpants on in the elevator, tucking your hair into the beanie as Bucky instructed you to. Right before the doors dinged open, he gently put his arm over your shoulders.  “Keep your head down and lean into me, we just have to get to my motorcycle, got it?”
You nodded quickly and buried your face in his jacket- which you were not complaining about, at all. Except when the elevator doors opened, you saw a very familiar pair of shoes- thankfully not Brocks, but this was still bad.
Bucky looked at each man in the eye before moving on. He tossed you a helmet, which you put on, and you both hopped on the bike.
“That man!” you yelled to Bucky who turned his head slightly acknowledging you. “His name is Pierce! He and Brock were really close.”
You felt like you were just yelling into the void, but you saw Bucky’s jaw clench and remembered he had super hearing.
Bucky expertly weaved through New York City traffic for what seemed like an eternity. You had no idea where he was taking you until he pulled up to your old university.
Bucky stabilized the bike, allowing you to throw your legs over it and hop off.
“Why don’t you give me a tour,” Bucky suggested. You nodded and Bucky threw his arm over your shoulders again.
You both walked around like that for a while. You would point out different buildings, tell a story, and Bucky listened intently, sometimes laughing. When you got to the library you pulled him inside and showed him your favorite study spot. It was off in an isolated corner with two comfy chairs. Bucky plopped down in one and you slid into the other.
In a hushed voice, Bucky began asking questions leaning forward, “What can you tell me about Pierce?”
You leaned forward similarly, “He was like a mentor to Brock. He would even come over for dinner sometimes. Brock would make me cook and then put down my cooking all night. Pierce would play along, even though my lamb chops are incredible.” you sighed. “I had no idea they worked for SHIELD though, of course, I didn’t know. Now though, their conversations make a lot more sense. Except…” you paused, thinking about a few details. “They would always talk about water.”
“Tell me more about that,” Bucky asked.
“Every time they had dinner or Brock talked to him on the phone- I would know it was Pierce because he had a specific ringtone for him- anyway, they would either talk about lakes or rivers or oceans. When Peirce came he always brought hydrangeas. One time they talked about this Greek island named Hydra,” you stopped short when you saw the look in Bucky’s eyes like he was putting some pieces together. “Bucky, wha- oh shit,” you whispered, pointing.
Bucky followed your finger to see a woman wandering the library and in the next minute, she would see you both.
“She’s with Brock,” you hurriedly whispered.
Before you knew what was happening, Bucky had pulled your chair incredibly close and whispered in your ear, “Kiss me, PDA makes people uncomfortable.”
So you kissed Bucky Barnes. Feeling him kissing you back gently but thoroughly made a shiver run down your spine and your hand found its way into his hair, the other keeping you steady on his shoulder. Bucky’s hands snaked over your hips, pulling you closer.
You heard the woman breathe out in annoyance and the click of her heels becoming farther away. You knew Bucky’s hearing was better than yours, so when you knew she was gone, you expected Bucky to pull away. But he didn’t, so neither did you. Instead, Bucky kept pulling you closer so you awkwardly shuffled onto his lap, wrapping your legs around his torso.
You felt Buckys teeth scrape against your bottom lip before his lips made their way to your jaw and your neck.
You sighed deeply at the feeling before his lips were back to yours. Bucky began to slow his movements and placed a few lazy kisses before pulling back so that his forehead was resting on yours. Your heart was pounding and breath erratic. As it calmed, you finally opened your eyes, almost surprised to see Bucky’s blue eyes searching yours. You smiled softly, and Bucky opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by his phone ringing.
He answered it quickly, “Yes?”
You began to move to get off Bucky’s lap, but he held you there gently.
After a few more exchanges he hung up the phone. “We can go back now.”
You nodded, “Okay.”
“I, uh, I just wanted to make sure you were okay before we-”
You cut Bucky off by placing a gentle kiss on his cheek. “Thank you, Bucky,” you said softly, your eyes swimming with emotion. “This is the first time I felt safe doing anything intimate with someone, even if it was to make sure that woman didn’t see us. I… I know I’m not going to get hit if I don’t do something right. So, thank you.”
Bucky gave you a gentle smile and you reveled in the softness of his eyes.
Back at the Avenger’s compound was another family meeting. You told them about the woman who had almost found you at the university library, giving as much detail about what she looked like as possible.
Then Bucky spoke.“Brock Rumlow and Alexander Pierce are Hydra,” his tone serious. “Clem gave me some information about them. They used to have dinner regularly. Pierce would bring hydrangeas, they would talk about bodies of water, and would bring up visiting the Greek island Hydra.”
Everyone’s eyes were wide as they took in the information and silence settled until Tony finally spoke up.“This means SHIELD is compromised. We don’t know who we can or cannot trust outside this room, plus Fury. Expect a meeting with Fury tomorrow.”
At that, everyone went their separate ways to prepare for what might be ahead.

The Rise of the Electric Scooter
Tumblr media
In an electric vehicle, the (gigantic) battery is a noteworthy piece of the cost. On the off chance that electric vehicle costs are diminishing, battery costs must diminish, on the grounds that dislike the expense of creating elastic, aluminum, glass, and steel into vehicle shapes can decay that much, isn't that so?
ev-battery-costs
On an electric bike, however, the impact of battery cost must be much increasingly emotional in light of the fact that bikes are such lightweight, minimized, and straightforward machines. They aren't substantially more than a battery and an electric engine in the first place. Keep in mind the Zappy electric bike from twenty years prior?
zappy-electric-bike year-2000
What slaughtered the electric bike in those days is something very similar that killed the electric scooters vehicle of year 2000: horrible lead-corrosive battery innovation. It's excessively overwhelming, it needs control, it needs more range, it takes too long to even consider charging. These are altogether various methods for saying something very similar: the battery sucks. It wasn't until Lithium Ion batteries developed that both the electric vehicle and the electric bike — and practically electric everything, looking at this logically — ended up reasonable.
In this way, one approach to check whether Lithium Ion battery costs are without a doubt commonly dropping autonomous of all other assembling concerns is to look at the expense of electric bikes throughout the most recent couple of years. We should think about one of the most mainstream models, the Xiaomi Mi M365:
xiaomi-mi-m365-value history-2018-2019
This chart just demonstrates approximately two years, from January 2018 to now; it would seem that the first cost for the Xiaomi M365 when it hit the US showcase in mid 2017 was around $800. So the cost of a well known, normal electric bike has split in three years. Awesome news to be sure for electric vehicles of various types!
This sensational drop in electric bike cost from 2016 to 2019 may not be astonishing versus the parallel ascent of the semi legitimate electric bike cell phone application rental industry over generally a similar timespan, as Bird, Lime, Skip, Spin, Scoot, and so on.

Tumblr media
Early forms of Bird bikes were real Xiaomi M365s, marginally altered for rental. Just by late 2018 had they moved to custom fabricated, ruggedized bikes streamlined for the rental market. The rental ventures have their very own difficulties, and unexpectedly have begun to turn to month to month rentals instead of the great 15 pennies for each moment.
Fledgling has explored different avenues regarding its plan of action lately. Toward the beginning of March, the organization changed its fix program in Los Angeles, which had depended on gig laborers to fix broken bikes. It moved fixes in-house (however bikes are still charged every night by a multitude of gig laborers). Soon thereafter, the organization presented bikes with secures a few markets, in an offer to avoid burglary and vandalism.
In April, it reported the dispatch of an increasingly customary rental program in San Francisco and Barcelona, in which clients could pay $25 every month to lease a Xiaomi m365 from the organization as opposed to paying per ride.

Here's an image of my electric bike inside my electric vehicle. (I am sorry that I didn't have an electric bike to stop beside it for most extreme priggishness, yet you can wager your sweet electrons I'll take a shot at that next!)
electric-bike in-electric-vehicle
The short form of my survey is this electric bike is extraordinarily fun, works incredible, and in the event that you can get it at a cost around $300, for all intents and purposes an easy decision. I adore it, my children cherish it, and insofar as you're reasonably OK with the look, not at all like Elon Musk 🛴💨 then you'll most likely adore it as well.
I found a slick video covering the "after one year" experience of owning the bike, and what you may in the long run keep running into or need to change.
(The primary concern to detract from this video is that pads super suck on tires this little, so be cautioned. I put Slime in my Mi's tires out of a plenitude of alert, however you could likewise go with strong tubeless tires – at the expense of some ride comfort – in case you're truly stressed.)
Saying this doesn't imply that that the electric bike experience is immaculate. There are a few difficulties with electric bikes, beginning with the greatest one: your nearby government has no clue how to control the darn things.
Do you need a cap?
It is safe to say that you are even permitted to legitimately ride them in broad daylight at all outside of private property?
The appropriate responses additionally fluctuate fiercely relying upon where you live, and with no consistency or clear rationale. Here are the ebb and flow electric bike laws in California, for what it's value, which require the rider to have a legitimate driver's permit (not normal for electric bikes) and furthermore deny them from walkways, the two of which I feel are burdensome and superfluous confinements.
One part of those laws I unquestionably concur with, be that as it may, is the 15 mile for each hour speed confinement. That is by the drove lively top speed for a standing grown-up with no extraordinary security gear. Anything quicker begins to get unequivocally … awkward. Think about this beast of a 1165KWh electric bike, with double engines and double suspension that goes up to forty freakin' miles every hour.
That … will be … frightening. Indeed, even the commentator, in full bike security gear, wasn't eager to drive it right to 40 MPH. What's more, I don't accuse him! In any case, since I've demonstrated to you the undisputed Honda Civic everyman spending model of electric bike in the M365, ideally this gives you a sample of the more extensive rising decent variety in these sorts of moderate electric vehicles. On the off chance that you need an extravagance electric bike, a ultralight electric bike, a rough terrain electric bike … everything are conceivable, at a cost.
Another reason the M365 is accessible for so modest is that is successor, the Xiaomi M365 Pro, was as of late discharged, in spite of the fact that it isn't exactly conceivable to acquire in the US at the moment.Having ridden my M365 a reasonable piece, I can affirm all the Pro enhancements are welcome, if gradual: greater battery and circle brake, more power, better show, improved hook instrument, and so on.
xiaomi-mi-m365-versus genius
None of those Pro enhancements, in any case, merit a 2× increment in cost so I'd prescribe staying with the M365 until further notice since its incentive is off the diagrams. Did I notice there's a bluetooth association, and an application, and it is conceivable to hack the M365 firmware? Entirely cool how electric vehicles are innately computerized, would it say it isn't?
Here are a couple of different perceptions in the wake of riding my M365 around a reasonable piece:
If it's not too much trouble be deferential around people on foot. The vast majority of the walkways around here are not occupied by any means, however the people on foot I experienced on the electric bike were certainly more gone crazy than I've seen before when utilizing standard kick bikes (or skateboards) on the walkway, which surprised me. An electric bike has more haul to it, both physically at 26 pounds, and in the 15 mile for every hour speed it can reach – yet additionally rationally as far as what it looks like and how individuals approach it. I prescribe backing off to simply above strolling speed when experiencing people on foot, and if there is a bicycle path accessible, I'd suggest utilizing that.
Tumblr media
Slopes work incredible. The kryptonite of conventional kick bikes is slopes, and I'm satisfied to report that even with a hack sizable grown-up, for example, myself riding, I had the option to continue a decent above-strolling speed on most sensible slopes. Where I took a gander at a slope and thought "this presumably should work", it did. That is amazing, considering this isn't the overhauled Pro model with greater battery and all the more dominant engine. On pads and downhills the presentation is heavenly, as you'd anticipate. So, in the event that you are a huge or tall grown-up, or live in an especially uneven territory, hang tight for the Pro model or a comparable.
Transportability is great, however fringe. At ~26 pounds, the Bike Racks for Garage Storage Reviews is sensibly versatile, yet it's not something you a) could truly pull off taking inside a café/store with you to counteract burglary or b) need to bear on your individual for any huge time span. It's not so deft or convenient as a kick bike, however that is a high bar. You'll have to convey a bicycle lock and consider how to bolt your bike on bicycle racks, which ended up being … more geometrically testing than I foreseen because of the little tires, circle brakes, and the motor in the front wheel. They need increasingly clear bolting focuses on the skeleton.
Frankly with you regardless i'm mad about the entire Segway failure. There was such a great amount of promotion some time ago. That strange thing should change the world. Rather, we got … Paul Blart Mall Cop.
paul-blart-segway
A Segway was $5,000 at dispatch in 2001, which is an astounding $7,248 in expansion balanced dollars. Here in 2019, modest $200 to $300 electric bikes are essentially the transformational innovation the Segway should be, right? Are electric bikes the fate of (most) transportation? I don't know, however I do like where we're going, regardless of whether it took us twenty years to arrive.

COTW 23 - update
Holding Viren, Levi was pacing back and forth in the family waiting area. Eren had already been in surgery for 8 hours, and he was still yet to hear anything about his husband's health. Doctor Reed had suggested he wait back at the hotel, and that she would call when the procedure was over, but Levi couldn't bare to bring himself to leave. He didn't want to be unable to get to Eren in time... Hushing Viren as he started wake, Levi wished someone would pick him up and carry him around. He was dead on his feet, but if he sat, he'd never get back up. Eren hadn't had a great flight down, due to a panic attack that had resulted in him sedated. When he'd woken at Mitras Royal, his husband had been severely disoriented and groggy. He'd begged Levi to take him home, and grown agitated over the lack of rings on his finger, taking hours to come back to reality as the drugs left his system. Having spent the whole night before Eren's flight at the hospital with his omega, then going straight to spending a flight being serenaded with Viren's stunning "operatic" vocals, and topping the trifecta with a terrified Eren, Levi was tired, smelly, exhausted to the point of nausea and nursing a headache greater than Viren's ability to scream. He knew Viren couldn't help the pain in his ears that came from flying, but out of everyone on the plane, only one little old beta woman had been happy to help. The rest of the passengers getting mad at the three year old for something he couldn't help or understand. By the twelve hour mark, Levi was wondering if they'd forgotten he existed. He'd given up pacing, thanks to his knees threatening to give out, and thanks to having to take Viren to the bathroom, and for food. His paranoia left him wondering if they'd come to find him, then found that he wasn't there and assumed he'd left. His arse was numb, his back hurt like a bitch and his eyes burned from a lack of sleep, but there was no way he was going home. 16 hours after kissing Eren goodbye as he wheeled away, Doctor Reed finally came to find him. The woman looked as bad as he felt "Levi" Rising to his feet, she gestured for him to sit. Levi's heart was hammering as he did "How... how is he?" "It was a hard and difficult surgery. Separating the tumour wasn't easy..." Oh god... oh... fuck... this was it... Eren had... he was... Levi's eyes filled with tears, Doctor Reed placing her hand on his shoulder "... and we were unable to remove the entirety of the tumour, however, we did remove over 80 percent of the tissue. Now. There were some complications, extending procedure time. The pup went into distress which is why we didn't remove the tumour in its entirety, the second twin then slipping into distress from the extended surgery..." Reed paused, Levi was getting over these pauses real fucking fast "Eren?" "Eren crashed on the table, suffering a major bleed as we were closing. We closed the bleed, and got his heart back into normal sinus rhythm, but we've placed him in a medically induced coma to relieve the pressure on his body. The next 48 hours are going to be critical. We'll be monitoring both pups very closely, as well as Eren for clots, preterm-labour, or secondary bleeds. We won't know if there are any lasting effect from the bleed, until he wakes" Levi felt as if he'd been dumped into an ice bath. His stomach clenching so hard that vomited into his mouth "Now. I know you're anxious to see him, but we have him a sterile room to lower risk of infection, and we will be keeping him under until we are absolutely sure he is strong enough to be brought back out. You need to go home and rest" Rest... how could he rest? "I know everything I said is scary, but it was nothing outside the realms of possibilities we knew may occur during this procedure. I'm also not sugar coating it, because I know you'd be insulted if I did. So the best thing you can do for Eren, is to go back to your hotel and rest" "I want to see him" "That's not currently possible" "I... I don't care if I can't talk to him, I need to see him... he's... my husband" Reed took a long breath in through her nose "Please. I need to see he's out of surgery" "You won't be able to communicate with him, and the amount of equipment surrounding him may be alarming" "I know. I'm prepared for that. But I still need to see him. We've come all this way. He's in a city and hospital he doesn't know. Having a surgery he was scared shitless over, and now you tell me he died on table. I need to... see him" Reed softened "I can give you a few minutes, but you have to promise me you'll rest" Levi nodded quickly "Alright, come with me" Forced to stand on the outside of the room, Eren was locked away from him. His omega's room was directly across from nurses station, which was generally reserved for the riskier of patients. Normally doctor's liked their patiences to come out of anesthetiser naturally, but there Eren was. Surrounded by monitors, his stomach bare and other than the small sensor pads placed across his swell to monitor the vitals of their pups. Levi found no relief at the sight of Eren like that. He looked too thin, and far too pale "Levi?" Blinking, he realised Reed had placed her hand on his shoulder again "My team is the best on the whole island. He is in very good hands here" "He looks like a doll" "He may be pale, but he did just go through a 13 hour procedure. Even unconscious, surgery is a heavy burden on the body, and there is a risk of infection. Being in a coma is the best thing for him right now" So they had left him waiting... They'd left him to stew in his own misery "He'll wake up again, won't he?" "We have no reason to doubt he won't once the drugs are weaned from his system. He will be weak, but if all goes well, he'll be home by the 28th" Levi nodded, swapping Viren to his opposite hip. He and Eren had married on the 13th, it was now the 17th or was maybe even the 18th... Eren was due to remain in Mitras until the 21st, then to be transferred back to Shinganshima. He didn't see Eren being home by the 28th, nor did he see him testifying on the 6th of March like Floch had organised... Eren wanted to take the stand as it would be the states lawyers questioning him this time, and giving him a chance to explain his life in his own words. Floch was sitting on the pushing incident, which left Levi furious, yet the man had restated that he had a plan "Now. The best thing for you is sleep" Levi nodded, he didn't want to take his eyes off Eren. The three rings and the two wolves he wore around neck felt incredibly heavy, almost like a hangman's noose. If anything else were to happen... he'd lose his head "Thank you... and thank you for... for saving them..." "You're welcome. I never promised this would be easy, but we all came through the other side in one piece. Are you alright to get home from here?" "Yeah... yeah, I've got it covered" "Then no doubt I'll see you soon" "Thank you..." Back at the hotel, Levi crashed hard. Getting Viren, and himself, showered and changed used up the last of his energy reserves. Turning the TV on and setting it to low for the background noise, he pulled his son into bed with him. Viren wasn't a happy camper, not after a whole day at hospital with being able to run and play, but Levi wasn't about to let him go loose in a hotel room, even if the door was weighted and chained. He needed the soft warmth of his son against him. He needed to know he was safe, no matter how many whines and grabby fingers to the face he took in the process. Sleeping came easy, the hard part was when Viren woke him early demanding food. The boy had somehow rid himself of his nappy, and pants, and all managed to make one hell of a mess of their hotel room. Ordering room service, Levi was ready for another however many hours of sleep he'd gotten. Chasing Viren down and getting him back into a pair of pants, his son promptly pulled them back down, before attempting another break for it. It wasn't fair how much energy toddlers had... or maybe he was just getting old. Breakfast was another trying experience. The syrup from their pancakes ended up across the sheets, with strawberries smeared into the sheets for extra flavour. His cup of tea fell victim too, its appeal lost once half chewed, toddler drooled on, pancake ended up floating in it. If Eren had been there, he would have had everything under control, and the room service man wouldn't have had to deal with a toddler with his willy in his hand yelling about making it bigger, when the poor guy was just trying to do his job. Levi gave a him a decent tip, the man taking it all in good humour as Levi tried to assure him that this wasn't an every occurrence and that Viren was his son, and that he wasn't up to anything shady. When he thought about it after the fact, his awkwardness was probably what he was laughing about. Once again he found himself thinking Eren would have handled everything so much better. With too much energy for his own good, Levi googled parks on his phone. It was barely 8am, so he wouldn't be able to visit his omega for another two hours. Two more hours he would have preferred to be have used to sleep, but Viren was just too wired, and their bed was a mess. Fighting to get his son dressed, then himself, he went to scold his son for jumping on their bed, when the boy jumped on him with a joyous cry "Daddy! Cuddle Attack!" "Whoa!" Spinning round with Viren in his arms, his bad mood lifted. He wouldn't be out of his flunk until Eren was back home, but this was nice. His son didn't mean to tax his nerves or neurons, and his pure happiness was like a salve to the throbbing wound that was his worry for Eren "What do you say, you and I go to the park, then we'll find something nice to bring mummy" "Mummy!" "Do you miss mummy?" Viren nodded, his wide grey eyes questioning Levi silently "Mummy had to have a special procedure, to make sure he and your little siblings are alright. But he loves you, very much and he's going to be ok" "Can mummy come to the park?" "Not today, baby. But he's going to want hear all about all the fun things you've been doing" "Daddy, why does mum always have to be sick?" "Mummy doesn't want to be sick, but this special procedure is to make him better..." "I don't like it" "I know. How about we get a special gift you can give mummy? And when he's all better, you can tell him how much you love him" "I do" Kissing Viren forehead, he nodded "That's my boy... let's head out to the park" His mind really wasn't on playing, but without other children there, his son had latched onto him. He stubbornly demanded Levi watched as he climbed up the half dozen ladder rungs, so he could slide down a slide as long as Levi's leg. Whoever had designed the park, had definitely not thought about kids at all. The playground was only a slide and a couple of swings, half hidden in the ridiculously perfect grounds. It suited Mitras though, it's rich and money burning image, along with its closed society where kids were probably just thought as pretty decorations. Viren didn't really enough space to explore or enough to work off any extra energy... so he wasn't surprised when Viren came running to him and begged to go on the swings. This was only their second day in the city... he had no idea how he was going to keep Viren entertained for the rest of them. * Eren kept him waiting, his husband had been showing signs of waking all day, but it was 9 hours after he first started to stir that Eren's eyes finally opened. As feared there'd been a few complications. The pups vitals had dipped so low they thought they may have to deliver them ahead of time, before gradually improving, but not before Levi just about collapsed on the spot. Then an infection had started to form along the edge of surgery site. A hair follicle irritated by a stitch, but it was enough to scare the shit out of him again. Kept under for a third day, Eren's system was flooded with antibiotics, and the fourth day after his operation, he was finally weaned off the barbiturates. Hitting the call button, Levi rose and grabbed Eren's hand, as Eren's heart rate began to rise with panic "Shhh. It's the breathing tube, don't fight it... you're ok" Blinking at him, Eren's whole face softened. Though his gaze was unfocused, his husband knew he was there, his struggling lessening "You kept me waiting beautiful.... shhh, don't fight the tube. You're ok... you're ok, bright eyes" Eren weakly squeezed his hand. It'd been a long four days. Especially when he'd been told Eren would be under for another day. Moved away so the tube could be removed, Eren's first move was to reach for Viren. The boy crying as he watched the tube come out, and Eren began to cough. Sitting Viren on the edge of Eren's bed, his husband smiled sleepily "H-hey..." "Rest your voice. Both know how those tubes feel" "Horrible" Levi snorted softly, moving to drag the visitors chair closer to Eren's bed before sitting. Trust Eren to try jumping right into talking again. Reaching up, he brushed Eren's hair back from his face, rubbing his forehead with his thumb as he felt himself tear up "You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" Eren coughed as he shook his head, wincing slightly as he dropped his head back against the pillow. Levi's heart jumped into his throat "Eren?" "Throat" "Then rest. Let me try read your lips" Eren didn't seem convinced, but his husband was fast falling back to sleep "Pups" "Both... both are fine... I'm fine. Viren's fine and you're going to be just fine too" Eren didn't need to know anything other than that "Good... mmm, baby..." Kissing Eren's cheek, Viren blew a raspberry. Lifting the toddler back into his lap, he wasn't happy to be parted with his mum "Mummy's still recovering, here. Hold mummy's hand. He's really missed you" "Missed him too" Levi was pretty certain that wasn't the case given Eren hadn't been conscious to miss him, but the way Viren carefully held Eren's hand with both his smaller ones were adorable. Just as carefully, he laid his left cheek down on the back of it "We did a little shopping for you... He wanted to buy you half the soft toys in the store" And a million other things he grabbed off the shelves, loudly proclaiming "for mummy" each time Levi took it from his hands to return it the shelf "He's a good kid" "Yeah. A complete and total handful, but he's so much like you" "N'mm like you" Eren's eyes started to slide closed. The eyes that had haunted his dreams and teased him over how long it'd been since he'd seen them "Get some more sleep, bright eyes" "It's been a while since y' call'd me that" "I've missed seeing your eyes... I've missed all of you" "Mmm... sorry... still sleepy" "I can see that. We're not going anywhere" "Love you guys" "We love you too" Sleeping for the next few hours, the second time Eren woke, Levi took Viren out the room while the checked Eren over. His husband didn't remember their earlier conversation, but it wasn't like he'd expected him to. Given it'd gotten so late, they probably wouldn't be able to stay for that much longer. Viren was bored and sleepy. Upset mummy couldn't get up and play. Making it a mission to find his son a cookie, he managed to keep the toddler entertained for a solid half an hour, before Viren got his cookie and they returned to Eren's room. Sitting up, Eren smiled at them tiredly "Look who's awake" "Look who's filling our son with sugar" "Mummy!" Viren made a run for Eren, Levi catching him as he tripped over his own feet and nearly lost his hard earned cookie. Carrying him over to Eren, he sat down with their son in his lap "Hey, baby. That's a pretty big cookie you've got there" "I needed bribery. How do you feel?" "I'm ok... sleepy... but I'm ok" "Good. Did they say anything?" "Mmm... yeah... pups are ok... that's the main thing" "What else did they say?" "A whole heap of words..." Levi forced a laugh. What he really wanted to know was if they talked about how the surgery went, but he didn't want to upset his omega by asking "Said we'd talk about it tomorrow with... with Reed" Yawning, Eren reached out to Viren to rest his hand on his head "My baby been good for daddy?" "It's been interesting" "He's been bored" "You could say that. I never realised how much time he spent sticking his hand down his pants" Eren laughed, before groaning with pain. His hand going from Viren's head to his stomach "Eren?" "Laughing isn't so great... I feel like I'm going to burst" "No laughing. Ok..." "Mmm... skins itchy too" "You had the start of an infection, but they've got it under control" "I think they said something about that too... and bleeding... I really can't remember" "Don't try and force it..." "'m not... how about you? You look sleepy" That was so very Eren "I'm ok. You have me a bit of scare though. I'm sure my hair's more grey than black these days" "Sorry... I like your hair black" "It's fine" "Tell me what you've been up to. Have you been having fun with daddy?" Viren hid behind his cookie, Eren giving another laugh and a groan "I should know better than to ask" "We went to the park, and we've been shopping. They have a kids channel at the hotel..." "TV babysitting for the win..." "Yeah. I've been lost without you around" "I'm sure that's not true" "I let him out in public without shoes on yesterday. Completely forgot them" "I've done that before too. You're not alone" "That's nice to know... I've missed... I've missed you so much" Tearing up, Eren gave him a loving smile "Hey. I'm ok" "I was scared you wouldn't wake" "Like I'd leave my two best men alone... hey, come here" Moving Viren up to Eren's bed, Levi wrapped his arms around both his loves. Nuzzling and kissing Eren's temple, he didn't care that Eren's hair smelt or that his mate hadn't showered in days. All he cared about was holding him again. The floodgates breaking open completely "You died... you left me and you died... and I wasn't there" "Shhhh... it's ok, alpha. It's ok" "I was so fucking useless. I kept wondering if it was ok to be taking Viren to play or to go shopping. I kept thinking about you" "I know you would have. I know. But it's over now, right?" "Y-yeah..." Eren picked up on the stuttered in his word "They couldn't remove all the tumour, but they got most of it... and then you nearly... you were gone" "Shhh, Levi. Levi, it's ok. I'm ok... my poor alpha. You've been so worried, while I slept. Have you called anyone? Let them know how things are?" "N-no..." "Leeeee. You were supposed to" "I texted Mike when you came out of surgery. But... I didn't want to hear it" "You said you'd call them. I didn't want you being alone" "I couldn't. Not until you were awake. I love you... I love you so much" "I love you, Lee. And I love my baby boy... can you lift Viren? He's on my stomach" "Oh! Shit... hold on..." Viren clutched to his cookie and at Eren's hospital gown as Levi pulled him back into his hold as he sat back in the visitors chair "Better?" "Not really... I'd rather the cuddles" "When we get home, you're going to have so many cuddles that you won't know what to do" "I wouldn't mind them now. My omega's so confused over everything. It wants its alpha, and wants to kill whoever touched our pups" "I don't think Reed will appreciate that" "Nor do I. How's your alpha?" Anxious. Worried. Angry. Confused. Freaking the fuck out... "Better now you're awake" "Coming off suppressants doesn't help either" "You're supposed to be worrying about yourself, not me" "Of course I'm going to worry about my family. You guys are my everything" "And you're ours..." Knocking on the glass door, a young nurse poked her head in the room "I'm sorry, but visiting hours are coming to the end" Withdrawing before he could reply, Levi looked back to Eren. His omega having paled in the last few moments "Eren?" "'m ok" "Hey, if you don't want us to go, I can ask about staying" "No. No, you need to take Viren home. He needs a bath and it's way past his bedtime" Murmuring the words, Eren's tearing eyes betrayed him "Eren..." "It's ok. I know you guys can't stay... I'm just... feeling really clingy..." "Like I said, I can ask" Eren wiped his eyes, not stemming the running tears "No... you look tired too... and I'm not... not going anywhere" "I can't leave you like this" "I know I shouldn't be scared, but I don't know this place... it doesn't smell like home" "Shhh... it's ok. You're safe. Here, Viren hop up for a second" Lifting Viren off his lap, Levi pulled his jacket off. Not caring it wasn't hygienic as he moved to lay it under Eren's head and across his pillows "Better?" "I love your scent..." "Good. I'll..." "You should take Viren back to the hotel... He spends too much time in hospital" "I don't want to leave you" "I don't want you two sleeping here..." "What can I do? I hate seeing you crying" "Give me a kiss?" Levi was happy to oblige, the nasal cannula getting in the way as he did. Straightening it out, he smiled at his mate sadly. He hated how scared Eren was becoming "I'll be here first thing in the morning, and we'll stay the whole day. I'll bring my phone in, so you can use it if you want, or look at photos. I've taken heaps of photos because I know you love them" "I... I don't deserve you" "Oh, bright eyes. You deserve the world. And who knows, maybe I'll bring you your own huge cookie" "Reed said I can't eat solid right now" Levi frowned "When did she say that?" "Before the surgery... because of you know... giving birth out my arse" Oh... yeah... straining to take a shit might not be the best thing right now "Right. Then I'll just have to make you cookies when we get home" "I'll hold you to that... where's Viren? I want to give him a kiss" It fucking sucked to leave Eren behind. His omega looked heartbroken as he guided Viren out Eren's room. He should have insisted that Eren slept. If he'd been asleep when Levi and Viren left, then his mate wouldn't be so sad... * Eren was flown back on the 23rd of February rather than the 21st. Coughing too hard due to his irritated throat had caused a tear in his stitching, and another unexpected surgery. Even if it was a very minor bleed, he was proud that Eren caught the fact that something was wrong, and spoken up about it rather than trying to hide the bleeding. Coming back home to Shinganshima was relieving. Eren was heavily depressed over the remaining tumour mass, despite trying hard not to show it. His husband's vitals had been all over the place, and Reed wouldn't sign off on the transfer until they'd steadied and remained within suitable values for 24 hours. Viren had once again hated flying, crying from the moment the cabin pressurised, right up to the moment he was taken into Hanji's arms at the hospital. Being on home turf made it easier to keep his worry under control. Eren was back in an environment he knew, and they'd be able to have some together as they had babysitters available. Meeting him at the front of the hospital, Hanji was all smiles as cuddled with Viren "It's about time you got back" "Nice to see you, too. How's Eren?" "Popped in to see him before, but he was sleeping. The transfer went like clockwork, buuuut, you're both in the sh-shoe with me" "Oh? Why now?" Falling into step with Hanji was easy. It felt like he could breathe easier and the air all that much cleaner than it had been in Mitras "Getting married without telling anyone! I can't believe you stole my Honey away and eloped" "Who told you? Was it Eld or Gunther?" "What?! They knew?! How come they got to know?! I wanted to throw Eren a huge wedding... did you do it right!? Was he happy!?" "We got married at the courthouse before Eren's surgery... and if it wasn't them, then who?" "It was on his transfer papers. Under personal affects was listed none as they were in the possession of his husband" "I knew I hated paperwork" "Why didn't you tell meeeeee?! Do you know how long I've been mentally planning this wedding?! How many hours I've put into the seat charts and flowers?!" "Don't worry, we still want a big wedding... Eren was scared of dying without marrying me" If he said he was just as scared, Hanji would pull the piss out of him for the rest of his life "And here I was, ready to give you shit. I can't tease you for a reason like that" "Once the trial is over and the pups are born, then we'll talk wedding. That's the agreement" "I read his updated medical records..." "And?" Pressing the elevator button, Hanji made him wait until they'd stepped inside and she'd pushed the button to the floor Eren was on before continuing "And I read about what happened... how is?" "Not happy. He's trying to hide it, but he feels guilty for not being strong enough for the whole of the tumour to be removed. Which is complete shoe. His omega's also been all over the place. He's wanted cuddles, but we got in trouble for Viren sitting on his bed, and I got us in trouble for leaving my jacket over his pillow so he'd have my scent" "Well, he's home now. Mike said he'd take Viren tonight. He also said that Titan needs to go on a diet" "He's fine the way he is... and I might take him up on that. We haven't had a chance to talk about everything. Not with little ears in the room" "How did he enjoy his holiday?" Watching the doors open, this time Levi made Hanji wait as he stepped off. Viren was practically asleep in her hold "He didn't. He wanted Eren and didn't understand why he couldn't be there. Plus, being in a hotel room most of the time left him with energy to spare. The second day Eren was awake, he talked at him for two hours straight" "I'm sooooo glad Anna's growing out of that. She's made Eren a card, but I'm not allowed to give it to him. And she's been lost without Viren" "For being your daughter, she's not as much as a pain in the arse as you are" "I know. She reminds me so much of Moblit... I'd like to take credit, but Eren has been so good with her" "Eren's really good with kids, and omegas. It's a shame he never got to put those skills to use outside of babysitting and saving omegas being attacked" "He's still young. Give it a couple of years for the pups to grow" "I know he's still young. I'm just saying..." "You're saying your smitten by everything he does" "He is my husband" "I know that. Do I get to see the wedding ring?" "Once it's back on his finger with the other two" "You've bought him half a jewellery shop... the rings, the charm bracelet, the wolves..." "Eren bought the wolves..." He couldn't deny Hanji's point though. He'd bought Eren four rings over the span of their relationship, which would possibly be around $7000 worth of jewellery... or so. But when compared to the fact that some spent that on a single ring, it really didn't seem that bad. Besides, Eren was beautiful. He'd had such a hard life and deserved pretty things. And the charm bracelet was Eren's pride and joy. A "V" added for their son, and when the next two pups came, he'd buy charm letters for both of them "Ooooooh. That makes me more sense" "Yeah. He didn't want me to give his jewellery back until we were back home. Viren's been after the wolves" Eren was awake when they walked in, giving them a small wave, Hanji raised an eyebrow "Is that all I get?" "Sorry. Hey, Hanji. How've you been?" "I've been worried about my little Sweetheart. My married, Sweetheart" Eren looked from Hanji to him "I didn't tell her. It was on your paperwork" "Oh... yeah... um... we got married" "I know. I mean. I heard. Levi said I couldn't look at the wedding ring until it was back on your finger" "That might be a while... I think they're swollen" Swollen? Since when? Eren's fingers were on the slender side. Like those of a piano player "Noooo... I want to seeeee! I can't believe you guys didn't invite me" "It was a small ceremony" "With a nice wedding night. Can I have Viren?" Walking over to Eren, Hanji set Viren down beside him. Leaving Levi to walk around the bed and sink down to sit on the other side "How do you feel? Any pain? Or discomfort?" "Hanji, you know what it's like to be pregnant. Everything hurts" "This is true. I want to take a little look at your stitches while I'm here" Levi sighed, taking Eren's hand into his. His omega's fingers didn't look swollen "Leave him alone" "I can't help it. He was gone for soooo long" Kissing the top of Viren's head, their son mumbled out "mumma" as he nuzzled into Eren's chest "How long am I going to be in here?" "A week or so. It depends if any complications arise" "Yay. I've gone from being stuck in one hospital to being stuck in another..." "At least you have all of us for entertainment..." Eren didn't look enthused or amused "Fiiiine. At least you're closer to being back home. Oh. That reminds me. I had Mike go ahead and pick a shower chair up for you, and a couple of rails in the bathroom to make getting around easier" "You didn't need to do that" "Nonsense. You're not to be on your feet for extended periods of time" "I know this" "Then you know it's for your own good, Eren" "It doesn't mean you get to rearrange Levi's apartment while he's not home" It wasn't just his apartment. He'd noticed the changes in Eren's speech that directly related to his omega's mental state. If he was upset, Eren tried to back away from things. It became Levi's room, Levi's apartment and Levi's son. Thankfully, Hanji hadn't or she'd be making Eren even more uncomfortable "He doesn't mind. Your health is our number one priority. Over the next few days, you'll be resting. We'll be performing ultrasounds daily, as well as monitoring you closely. I know you're sick to death of having no privacy and of being poked at... but this is for your own wellbeing and that of the pups. We need to know the second something doesn't feel right or normal" Eren let out a faint whine, Levi squeezing his hand hard "Stop scaring him" "I'm just explaining so he knows what's going on" "You can do that without scaring him" "Guys... that's enough. I think I want to get some more sleep" "Mike is going to look after Viren tonight, because we both know Levi isn't going to want to leave you" "He should go home" "I'm not going anywhere" "Titan and Viren need you" "And they're both going to be taken care of... we haven't had a chance to talk since the surgery" "I don't really feel like talking. I'm still tired from the flight" Hanji caught his eye, her frown obvious "I'm fine. I just need to sleep off the meds and stuff. Levi, you should take Viren home" "I'm staying with you" "Levi" "Eren. I'm staying and that's final. You're husband and I've been worried sick about you. We're home and Mike is happy to look after Viren" "No fighting you two. Eren, I want to take a look at those stitches now, then I'll let you sleep" "Not with Viren in the room..." "Alright. Let me get Mike and we'll figure this out" Eren's stitches didn't look great. That wasn't to say that whoever closed the wound hadn't done a nice job. It was more that he hated that Eren needed them to begin with. The bruising had mostly faded, and the edges had started to scar closed. Replacing the wound dressing, Hanji hummed as she worked "It looks good. The infection has cleared up nicely... you've got a little bit of flaking which is probably itchy as hell, so I'll get some cream for that..." "So, he's ok?" "Yep. You'll have a scar, but things look really good to me" "No signs of another bleed?" "Nope. The bruising and swelling will pass, and we'll find out the rest when we give you an ultrasound" Eren had his eyes closed during Hanji's examination. Breathing through his nose, his husband looked as if he was trying his hardest to fake being asleep "Thanks, Hanji. Is... am I allowed to lay next to him?" "You'll need to be careful not to jostle him, and you'll need to avoid placing any pressure at all on his stomach. For now, I would prefer if you remained sitting by his side until after the ultrasound" "Alright. I'm not going anywhere anyway" "We all know that. I'll try to be here for the ultrasound, then we can find you a blanket or two" Nodding, Hanji flashed him a large smile as she started cleaning up the mess she'd made "It really is good to have you back. Anna is going to be so excited to see you again. She's been asking about you everyday and how "Uncle Eren's babies" are. I'm off for a couple of hours tomorrow around lunch, so I'll bring lunch in with me. You're probably sick to death of hospital food" "They've had him on soft foods" "That makes sense. I know a great place that does an amazing array of desserts. I'm sure I can find a few things" Eren let out a nasally sigh "Ok... can I go to sleep now?" "Sure thing. Levi, you're in charge of watching over him" "Like I'd do anything else"

What Defines Us - Ch. 24
We’ve reached the halfway point of the story!
Link on ff.net!
If anyone wanted to see the phrase ‘helicopter parent’ in action, they could come over and experience the combined helicopterness of Yang, Blake, and Weiss.  It was incredible!  The loud whomp whomp whomp of spinning blades filled the air, following Ruby wherever she went - into the garage, into the kitchen, even in the bathroom she could hear it!  Well, not really because it wasn’t a real sound, but it was practically a sound by now!
Blake and/or Yang hardly left her side and, if they did, she could still feel one of them watching her closely.  Or trying to not closely watch her closely.  Like maybe she wouldn’t notice them pretending to read or watch a movie while keeping an eye on her instead.  And maybe she wouldn’t notice how they kind of stalked her around the house.
The forever-stalking was extra creepy at night with Blake’s glowy cat eyes.  Once or twice, Ruby made the mistake of glancing down the hallway on her way to bed and nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw glowing eyes in the distance.  They either belonged to Blake or a ghost, but she was too scared to find out which!
On top of the Glue Crew (Ruby’s new nickname for Yang and Blake since they stuck to her like glue), Weiss was sending nearly constant messages asking how Ruby was doing.  Seriously, Weiss checked in at least once every hour, sometimes twice every hour.
Not that Ruby minded the extra attention from Weiss...it was nice that they were thinking about each other so often!  Maybe Weiss was primarily worried about Ruby’s health and wellbeing, but Ruby could pretend that that was the same thing...she was great at pretending things.
But seriously, she’d had the equivalent of a bad headache!  And then she might’ve passed out or whatever, and they might’ve had to use the little laser on her again - but come on!  A pack of ice and pat on the back probably would’ve had her up and running in no time.  Nope!  She had to go to the hospital and that meant more tests and medicine and yadda yadda.  The doctors used big words that she didn’t understand, so she spent most of her time nodding even though she had no idea what they were talking about.  Why couldn’t they just call her brain a brain?  Why were there different names for simple things?
Now she was perfectly fine, but everyone was treating her like she might explode at any minute.  Apparently, she’d earned a new nickname - Ticking Time Bomb Ruby.
Why wasn’t she in charge of her own nicknames?  She was way better at coming up with them than Yang.
On the slightly-really horrible side, after talking to the doctor Yang had banned Ruby from any and all physical activity for the next few days.  Which sucked!  But it was just a precaution to make sure her brain shrank a bit before she worked it up again.  Who would’ve thought people would wish for her brain to shrink?  Certainly not her grade school teachers…
Barred from physical activity, forced to get a decent amount of sleep every night, and given another pill bottle to add to her tower.  This one would be a cinch - no side effects, only a handful of pills, no problem!  She could take them all at once!  But that was highly not recommended.
There was good news in the midst of the crummy news though!
Unlike before - when Ruby had to twiddle her thumbs when she wasn’t allowed to train - now she had a friend to talk to!  Thankfully, Weiss seemed more than happy to chat whenever Ruby wanted, so her days of mandatory rest would pass quickly.  And, as soon as the time was up, she was going to beg Blake to practice with her again.  After going on one hunt, she wanted to go on more.  A somewhat-suspect brain wasn’t enough to stop her!
Glancing at the time, Ruby tossed her scroll on the bed and headed out of her room so she could catch Blake and Yang before they left for the night.  Once in the hallway, she walked to the kitchen.  Walked.
Walking was soooo slowwww.  It was such a waste of time!  If she moved faster, she’d get to the kitchen faster and have more time to do other things!  But Yang had specifically banned Ruby from using her semblance and had even set a speed limit in the house - anything more than a walk and Ruby had to organize all of Yang’s shoes, which was not something she ever wanted to do.
So she was walking everywhere.  And they didn’t need a bigger house because this one was already way too freaking big.
When she finally made it to the kitchen (about a decade later), she found Blake and Yang putting away the dishes from dinner.  Well, Blake was putting away dishes while Yang held onto her and whispered into her ear, making her laugh about something.
“The doctors didn’t permanently attach your hand to Blake, did they?” Ruby joked, drawing their attention her way.
“Why yes they did,” Yang replied with a grin, refusing to remove her hand from Blake’s side.  When Blake tried to move away, Yang clasped onto a handful of her shirt to keep her in place.  “They said it was medically necessary for my survival.  And ya know what?  I’ve never felt better.”
Ruby rolled her eyes at Yang’s overjoyed smile.  Her sister was impossible to tease, as usual.  No matter what Ruby said, Yang could always turn it around and make it some sort of weird compliment.
But something was up with them.  They’d been extra fond of each other recently...and that was saying something since they were normally extra fond of each other.
“What’s up with you two?” Ruby asked after Yang stole a kiss while Blake wasn’t paying attention, making her ears twitch in surprise.
“What do you mean?” Blake asked, her cheeks blushing a soft red.
“You're like...extra lovey-dovey with each other.”
“I’m not allowed to love my girlfriend?” Yang asked, sharing a warm smile with Blake.
Shaking her head, Ruby decided that she probably didn’t want to know what was up with them.  For all she knew, they were celebrating some sort of anniversary that should not be shared with siblings or any other family members.  No thanks.  Her ears didn’t need to bleed today!  Then they’d probably rush her back to the hospital, and they’d have to start this whole thing all over again.
“How are you feeling?”  Somehow, Blake managed to peel her attention away from Yang just long enough to ask Ruby that question.
“Good as new!”  Flashing two thumbs up, Ruby grinned.  “I feel like I could run a whole marathon and not get tired!”
“That’s great!  Cuz I’ve been meaning to organize my shoes forever.”
Ruby stuck her tongue out at her sister when Yang laughed.
“I’m not gonna run around!  But I feel fine,” Ruby added before glancing at the clock over the stove.  “Shouldn’t you be leaving soon?  I thought the concert was in an hour!”
“It is.  And yes, we should be,” Blake answered before giving Yang a playful shove towards their room.
Tonight was the night of the Achievemen concert Weiss gave Yang tickets to.  Thankfully, Blake had convinced Yang not to blast the albums on repeat all day long - something about how Blake didn’t want Yang to ‘wear out’ the songs before they heard the live versions.  And there may have been a more violent threat whispered right after that, but it had been too low for Ruby to hear.  It made Yang more than willing to agree though!
“This is gonna be the best night ever,” Yang said with a smile.  “Just me, Blake, and backstage passes to meet the Achievemen.  We’ll be close enough to see them sweat!  Isn’t that awesome??”
The look on Blake’s face said that that was not at all awesome, but she nodded anyway.
When Yang got excited like this, her mood was impossible to dampen.  A fire hose wouldn’t even be enough to calm her down.  Ruby would love to try that out though, just in case.  But it probably wouldn’t work, and then Yang would be mad that Ruby sprayed her with a fire hose.
“We even get to meet them after the show!  Gonna get some autographs for sure,” Yang continued happily.  “Next time you’ve gotta come, Ruby.  You’d have a -”
The sentence abruptly cut off as Yang’s smile fell.
“Oh shoot!  We need someone to watch Ruby if we’re gonna be gone!” Yang said, turning to Blake with an expression of concern.
“Yangggg, come on - I don’t need a babysitter!” Ruby whined.  “I can take care of myself!”
“Uh huh...and what’re you gonna do if your brain tries to explode itself again?” Yang retorted.
“I’m pretty sure that won’t happen!”
“How sure?”
“I’m not a doctor!” Ruby replied, throwing her hands in the air in exasperation.
Following the conversation, Blake tapped her fingers thoughtfully against the countertop before intervening.
“I’m sure Weiss would be willing to come over,” she suggested.  Ruby’s eyes widened at the idea - which was genius.  Leave it to Blake to figure out the best solution ever.
“That’d be pretty cool if Weiss came over!” Ruby quipped, her happy endorsement making Yang smirk.
“Oh really?  What was all that whining for then?”
Furrowing her brow, Ruby nodded her head as if she was seriously pondering her sister’s words.  “I’ve reconsidered that, and...I think it would be a good idea to have someone here.  Just in case.”
When Blake shook her head and Yang laughed, Ruby couldn’t help but smile.
“Ok, short stack.”  Yang reached out and tried to rustle Ruby’s hair, but Ruby successfully dodged out of the way.  “Why don’t you see if Weiss can come over now?”
Grinning at the question, she almost used her semblance to blast to her room to retrieve her scroll.  But she didn’t.  She walked quickly.  Which was still so freaking slow.  At this pace, the concert would be over by the time she reached her room, and then she’d never get to see Weiss.
It took a gazillion steps to get out of the kitchen and another quadrillion to make it down the hall, but she eventually made it to her room.  Grabbing her scroll off the bed, she typed out a quick message.
‘Blake and Yang won’t leave for the concert unless someone is here to watch me.  Can you come over?’
She only waited a few seconds for Weiss’ response to arrive - a very succinct ‘On my way.’  Weiss always had such concise answers.  Even her messages were tidy - it was cute!
Er, it was...interesting.  Which apparently meant the same thing as cute these days.
Beaming at what had unexpectedly become an awesome evening, Ruby decided to keep the scroll with her so that she wouldn’t have to cross Remnant to get it again.  After another full day of walking, she flounced into the living room and caught her sister and Blake at the end of a kiss.
“She’s on her way!” Ruby announced, but her presence did nothing to put space between them.
Jeez...what happened to the days when they’d separate a little bit?  Not that she cared - they were in love and happy.  It was just weird to remember that there was actually a time when they’d acted completely different around her.
A lot had changed since then.
Ending the kiss and playing with Blake’s hair, Yang smirked and rolled her eyes at Ruby’s news.  “Of course she’ll drop everything to get here right away...” she muttered.
“But someone will be here to watch Ruby,” Blake replied, taking Yang’s hand and pulling her towards their bedroom.  “So now we can get ready to leave.”
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say someone is excited to see the Achievemen!” Yang called out, allowing Blake to pull her down the hallway.  Ruby laughed at the idea that anyone but Yang liked that band, but she couldn’t hear Blake’s muffled response.  She could imagine it though!  It was probably something super clever and witty like ‘ha, you wish’ or ‘yeah, right’ or…
There was a reason why Blake was the witty one and not Ruby.  She sucked at being witty under pressure!
Since it would take another year or two to walk to her room and back, Ruby hopped up onto the kitchen counter and waited for Weiss to get there.  Because Weiss was coming over!  Ruby had planned on spending her alone time in the workshop, but this was way better!
Even though they’d been in near constant communication via scroll, Ruby hadn’t seen Weiss since the hospital.  That was only a couple of days ago, but it felt like they’d been apart forever.  Sending messages was nice, but it was nothing compared to hanging out in person!  A message didn’t have Weiss’ voice or her eyes...that would be really weird if they did though.  Oh!  They could video message!  Although Ruby had to wonder if Weiss would be ok doing that.  It wouldn’t be an option when Weiss was at work or doing something important, but maybe at other times?
Waiting for the time to pass, Ruby swung her feet and traced her fingers along the scar on her wrist.  It had been a long time since her arm really hurt.  Sometimes there was a slight achiness in it when she overused it, but even that was disappearing with time.  The scar would never disappear though, which was fine with her.  It gave her something to remember the injury by since she didn’t have the actual memories of it.  Plus, scars were supposedly attractive, right?  She’d heard Yang say something about that once...and she definitely agreed when thinking about the small scar that ran across Weiss’ eye.
Amongst all the interesting things Ruby had ever learned, one of the most interesting was how interesting Weiss was!  She was basically...all thought-consuming.  For the longest time, Ruby had had such a one track mind - it was training, training, training, and nothing else.  Then bam!  Weiss walked into their life, and suddenly she was all Ruby could think about.
Ok, Weiss hadn’t walked in with a bam.  The door hadn’t made any sort of noise.  And maybe it was more appropriate to say that Ruby now had a two-track mind.  One track was reserved for training and becoming a huntress, but the other was exclusively for Weiss.  Because Weiss was very, very...interesting.
Hearing Blake and Yang’s voices carrying out of the hall, Ruby looked up from her wrist.  The two were dressed for a night on the town, as Yang liked to call it.  Walking into the living room, they rummaged through the hallway closet for whatever shoes they were going to wear to the concert.
“Jeez Ruby - waiting for someone?” Yang teased while indiscriminately tossing several miscellaneous shoes out of the closet.
“It takes forever to walk anywhere!” Ruby complained, kicking her feet in exasperation.
“It only feels like forever because you’re used to moving twice as fast as regular people do,” Blake commented with an amused expression.  Somehow, she’d already found her shoes and put them on when Ruby hadn’t noticed.
“Welcome to how the rest of the world feels!” Yang added with a cheeky grin.
“It sucks,” Ruby moped from the countertop.  “You’re all so slow.”
Chuckling at the response, Blake walked over to the front door and opened it - revealing Weiss just stepping up onto the front porch.  Not at all surprised that she hadn’t been able to knock, Weiss merely looked at Blake and shook her head in admiration.
“Hey Weiss,” Blake said with a sly smile as Ruby let out an ‘eep!’ and jumped down from the counter to greet their guest.
“Weiss!” she called out, meeting Weiss right inside the front door and pulling her into a quick hug.  “I’m so glad you could make it!”
“Yes, we’re all very fortunate you could make it,” Blake added with a grin while handing Yang the second shoe she’d been searching for.
“Aha!” Yang exclaimed as she took it and slid it onto her foot.  After checking her pockets and bag for the tickets, she gave Blake a thumbs up.  “Now I’m ready!”
“Guess we can finally leave,” Blake teased, taking Yang’s hand and heading towards the door.  “Getting you there on time will be an achievemen-t of its own.”
When Ruby groaned, Yang laughed and pulled Blake close to place a kiss between her ears.
“Have I mentioned that I love you today?  Because I totally love you,” Yang remarked with a big grin before finally acknowledging Weiss’ presence.  Her smile fell a bit, but she cleared her throat and spoke first.
“Uh, thanks for the tickets, Weiss,” she said, lifting her hand in a loose fist and making a motion like she wanted Weiss to bump it with her own.  Weiss didn’t understand the gesture at first, but eventually caught on and lightly tapped her knuckles against Yang’s.
“You’re welcome,” she replied, managing a small smile of her own as Yang stepped outside with Blake.
“Oh yes, thank you for encouraging this unhealthy obsession,” Blake teased.
“Just wait, Blake.  By the end of the night, you’ll be begging me for their albums.”
“Yes, so that I can burn them.”
Chuckling, Yang suddenly stopped and turned back to the house, pointing a finger towards Ruby and then Weiss.
“And you two - don’t do anything Blake and I wouldn’t do.”
“There are actually things you won’t do?” Ruby joked.
After making a face at Ruby, Yang pulled the door shut with a “Be back later!”
Left alone in the house, but still able to hear the two girls talking outside, Weiss turned and smiled at Ruby.  Ruby’s excitement immediately shot through the ceiling - because Weiss was here!  They got to spend the night together!  Or like, maybe not the night, but at least until the concert ended.
“How are you feeling?” Weiss asked first.  About an hour had passed since she’d asked that question, so it was exactly what Ruby expected.
“Perfectly peachy!” she replied with a big grin.  “Absolutely amazing!  Fantastically fantastic!  Extra uh...excellent!”
Weiss pursed her lips at the slew of words.
“I’ve been asking that too much, haven’t I,” she said, her clear blue eyes saying that she already knew the answer to that question.
“Nope!  Well, yeah, a lot, but I totally don’t mind!”  Using her best ‘totally not minding’ face, Ruby successfully erased the concern from Weiss’.
“Well, how about I ask you a different question then?” Weiss asked with a hint of a smile that had Ruby hanging onto every word.  “What would you like to do now?”
“Something Yang and Blake wouldn’t do!” Ruby immediately answered, throwing her hands up in the air in excitement.  “So...clean, maybe?”
The joke made Weiss laugh - and Ruby really liked it when Weiss laughed.  There was something so rewarding in seeing light blue eyes sparkle with joy and, for a brief moment, catching a glimpse of a different person - the cheerful, less poised version of Weiss peeking through every expression of true happiness.
If only there were a way to get Weiss to laugh more...then maybe that other version of her could stick around longer...
Oh!  Ruby happened to know an extra-awesome and super-effective way to make someone to laugh oodles.  Duh, why hadn’t she thought about this before?  It was only something Yang did to Ruby all the time.
“I have an idea.”
“Really?  What is it?”
Weiss’ willingness to hear the idea was super adorable, but Ruby didn’t need to say it out loud. Instead,  she raised her hands and wiggled her fingers in the universal ‘I’m gonna tickle you’ gesture.  Eyes instantly widening in recognition, Weiss took several steps away.
“Ruby…” Weiss’ voice was low with warning while she inched towards the living room.  “Don’t you dare.”
When Ruby grinned and stepped forward, Weiss took another step back to match.  But Weiss was backing into the living room, where there was very little opportunity to escape.  The furniture would work perfectly in Ruby’s favor - allowing her to pen the girl in.  And if she could get Weiss to the sofa, she would win.  Ruby knew all of this from personal experience - on the losing side of things, of course.
Frozen in a draw, each of them waited for the other to make the first move.  It was just like sparing!  One of them had to move first, and the other would try to react in time.
Grinning at the comparison, Ruby decided to make the first move.  She faked a step forward and to the left, which Weiss instantly reacted to, but Ruby was expecting that reaction.  Planting her foot on the ground and quickly pivoting the other direction, she just barely managed to reach out and wrap her arms around Weiss before she slipped out of reach.  Spinning around, Weiss tried to escape backwards, but all she managed to do was drag Ruby right along with her as they both collapsed awkwardly onto the sofa - which played right into Ruby’s advantage.
As soon as they hit the soft cushions, Ruby unwrapped her arms from around Weiss’ waist and tickled Weiss’ rib cage - by far the most ticklish spot for most people.
And, interestingly enough, Weiss was ‘most people.’  She let out the most adorable squeal Ruby had ever heard while struggling to get away from the tickling fingers.
“Ruby!  You -!”
When Weiss’ words dissolved into uncontrollable laughter, Ruby grinned and continued the relentless onslaught of tickles.  Weiss looked so happy right now, even as she squirmed and tried to free herself.  But there was no way she was getting away from Ruby - Ruby was the tickle master-in-training!  Or more of an apprentice.
Wiggling her fingers in between Weiss’ ribs, Ruby laughed as she dodged a flailing arm that almost whacked her in the head.  She should’ve tickled Weiss way earlier!
“Alright!  You -!” Weiss gasped before a few more giggles escaped.  “R-Ruby you win!”
Hearing the magic word, Ruby immediately stopped and grinned down at Weiss, satisfied with the victory.
“God, Ruby - you...dolt,” Weiss huffed, trying to regain her breath while a soft red colored her cheeks.  “You’re...trying to kill me…”
Even though Weiss was pretending to be annoyed, she was still smiling.
Weiss was really pretty when she smiled - a real smile and not those guarded ones she normally used.  Like, she was really, really pretty.  And when she was lightly panting through slightly parted lips, staring up at Ruby with intent blue eyes that seemed to see right through her, with the two of them intertwined on the sofa...it almost felt like Ruby could - or she should - lean down, closing the small gap between them and -
Coughing into her hand to clear that sudden thought from her mind, Ruby refocused on Weiss.  On Weiss’ eyes, not her lips.
“Death by tickles, huh?” Ruby asked, sitting up in order to put some space between them and bury the random craving she’d just had.
“It’s possible,” Weiss replied with a serious expression as she sat up, too.
“Nuh uh -”
“Yes ‘huh,’ it’s happened before.”
Giggling, Ruby patted Weiss on the shoulder.  “I’m not falling for that one!”
“Want to look it up?”
A smirk accompanied the question - marking it as a challenge.  Ruby’s resolve wavered at the look.  If Weiss was willing to look it up, maybe she was right.  Or...maybe she was bluffing and hoped Ruby wouldn’t catch her.  But that would be tricky.  Was Weiss tricky?
Staring at Weiss for what felt like forever, Ruby searched icy blue eyes that were much warmer than their color implied.  There had to be a hint in there somewhere...something that gave away whether or not Weiss was bluffing…
When Ruby narrowed her eyes, Weiss playfully narrowed hers in turn.
If Weiss was lying, what would give it away?  Would it be in her eyes?  Would they slightly squint or change color?  Would her pupils be a little bigger than usual, or would she have the tiniest hint of a smile?
Suddenly stumbling over the answer, Ruby beamed in delight.  There was one.  Weiss had a tell!
“Ok,” Ruby replied, sitting nice and straight on the sofa cushion.  “Let’s look it up then.”
Weiss was good.  Very composed.  She hardly flinched at Ruby’s words, but when Ruby reached for Weiss’ scroll to put this matter to rest, a hand shot out to stop her.
“Wait.”
Ruby beamed at the single word, ready to accept her tiny triumph while Weiss looked baffled at how her bluff had been called.
“Alright, you got me.  How did you know?”
“You have a tell, Weiss!” Ruby exclaimed, more excited about finding that than about being right.  But her words only made Weiss blink in confusion.
“A...tell?”
“Yeah!  A tell - like something you do when you’re lying!  I just figured it out!”
“What??” Weiss asked in shock.  “I do not have a tell.”
“You totally do!”
“Then what is it?”
Sensing the trap and successfully hopping over it instead of falling into it, Ruby shook her head - sending her hair flying all over the place.
“No way - I’m not telling you!  Then you’ll just stop doing it!”
“But...you have to tell me!”
“Why?” she asked, laughing at Weiss’ miffed expression.
“Because!  I...you...you just should!”
“That’s super not convincing!” Ruby replied gleefully.  “But maybe you can persuade me to part with my secrets?”  When Ruby playfully batted her eyes, Weiss looked more shocked than anything else.
“How?”
“I dunno.  What’s something really awesome that I might want?”
When the question made Weiss blush and turn away, Ruby’s cheeks warmed up too.  Had Weiss just thought about what Ruby had just thought about?  Or something completely different?  Something better?
What had Weiss just thought??
“I’m not sure…” Weiss mumbled before turning back to Ruby - the moment of indecision already gone and replaced by a more assured persona.  “One million chocolate chip cookies.”
Ruby burst into giggles at the offer.  Because yes, that was amazing and yes, that was something she’d want, but also because Weiss looked so serious about it!  Like this was some business deal and she’d literally hand over a million cookies in exchange for the information.
But Ruby couldn’t be bought so easily!  Well, maybe normally she could, but not this time!
“Noooo thank you!”
The reply made Weiss’ mouth fall open in surprise.
“You’re turning down a million cookies,” she stated in disbelief while Ruby nodded, pleased with her random thread of self-control.
“Yup!  I think this information is much more valuable than that.  Plus, I don’t think I could eat them all before they went bad!”
Maybe she could, but that was an awful lot of cookies.  What would that even look like?  Would they fill her room?  The whole house?  The neighborhood would probably smell like heaven!  How much milk would she need to eat that many cookies?  They’d have to get their own cow!  She’d name him Herman.  Wait - did boy cows make milk?
While Ruby contemplated the logistics of receiving one million cookies, Weiss tapped one finger against her knee, furrowed her brow, and bit her lip in the most adorable display of concentration as she tried to figure out how to pry the information from Ruby.
“What do you want…?”
The question wasn’t directed at Ruby - it was more like Weiss said it to herself while trying to find the answer in Ruby’s eyes.
What did Ruby want?  She wanted a lot of things!  But knowing when Weiss was trying to lie would probably be super valuable.  Maybe she’d be willing to exchange the information for…
Instantly blushing when her brain jumped to something she would absolutely give up the secret for, Ruby averted her eyes and blew a puff of air through her lips.
Why was that her answer?  Why was she thinking about that so much right now?  Hopefully Weiss’ superpowers didn’t include mind reading.  Otherwise Ruby was in for a world of first-class embarrassment right...about…
Now.
When Weiss’ finger kept tapping her knee and nothing else happened, Ruby grinned and wrapped her arms around her legs.
“I can’t think of anything!” she remarked.  It was a fib.  A big, fat one.  There was one thing she couldn’t stop thinking of right now, but there was no way she could ask for that!  No, she’d just keep the information safe and sound for now.
“Nothing?”
“Nope!  Plus, I like knowing something about you that no one else does.  Even you!”
That last part was the truth.  Knowing this information made Ruby special, and she really, really liked the idea that she was special - at least, she wanted to be special when it came to Weiss.
Tilting her head to one side, Weiss stared at Ruby for a long time.  Obviously, she hadn’t expected Ruby to be so difficult to crack.  Which was probably smart thinking - it wasn’t every day Ruby found the resolve to turn down a million cookies!  She’d probably take that deal ninety-nine times out of a hundred.  Weiss was just unlucky tonight.
“But maybe I’ll tell you one day!” Ruby added with a grin.  Weiss stared for a few more seconds before smiling and shaking her head.
“You’re obviously feeling better.”
“Yup!  I’m great!”
“Good.  Because I really don’t want to take you to the hospital again.”
“And you’re telling the truth!” Ruby added playfully, making Weiss’ eyes narrow in thought once more.
“You won’t tell anyone, will you?”
“You think I’d turn down a million cookies and then just hand this priceless knowledge out for nothing??  No way!”  Shaking her head, Ruby added, “They’d have to offer me something better!”
“Such as…?”
“Uh, such as…”  Racking her brain, she tried to come up with anything that could possibly be better.  It was really hard!  Weiss had nailed that offer even if Ruby hadn’t accepted it.
“Yang would have to shave her head!” Ruby said before laughing at how funny it would be to see her sister with no hair.  “Oh!  Or, Blake would have to let me take Gambol Shroud apart and tinker with him for an entire - three days!”
That last one was quite enticing, too!
Chuckling lightly, Weiss shook her head.
“So never.”
“Basically.  It’s cookies or bust.”
Satisfied with that answer, Weiss nodded and leaned against the sofa.  Ruby collapsed backwards too, grinning all the while.  Being around Weiss was always really fun and...easy.  It was kind of weird because they hadn’t known each other that long, but they were already pretty comfortable around one another!  Maybe they hadn’t known each other for years like some friends did, but that didn’t matter, right?  As long as they had a good time together, they could be great friends!
This ‘making friends’ thing was easier than she’d thought.  It probably helped that Weiss already knew Yang, but Ruby would take all the help she could get.
With their shoulders barely touching, Ruby waited for a few seconds in silence before deciding that she needed to say something.  She was the host, after all!  It was important to keep guests entertained and not bore them to death.  And it was possible to bore someone to death - look it up!
“So we did what I wanted to do...now what do you wanna do?” she asked, shifting in her seat to look at Weiss.
“I thought I was supposed to watch you.”
“You’re just going to sit there and look at me?”
Smiling, Weiss shrugged at the question.  “Sure, that wouldn’t bother me one bit.  But is there anything else you’d like to do?”
That was a great question.  What did Ruby want to do?  There were so many choices!  The world was their oyster!  Except that they probably shouldn’t leave the house, and Ruby wasn’t allowed to do anything more physical than shuffle her feet across the floor.
The world was their slightly-restricted oyster!
There were still lots of great options though.  They could go for a walk around the house - that would take them into next century.  Or they could go into the garage and work on something  - maybe Weiss would want to work on a project with Ruby?  That’d be cool!  Or they could hide Yang’s shoes outside.  Or...
“Oh!” Ruby exclaimed when an idea popped into her head.  “I know!  We can practice my hand-eye coordination!  Can you use your glyph-things to throw stuff at me?  Do they work like that?”
When Ruby hopped off the sofa, Weiss’s eyes followed her.
“Yes...but throw what ‘stuff’ at you?”
“Um…” Unsure about an answer, Ruby glanced around.  What was small and a good projectile?
Leaving the sofa behind, she walked into the kitchen and started opening drawers in search of something to use.  “Aha!” she remarked in success, pulling a handful of silverware out of the drawer and turning back to Weiss.  “How ‘bout these?”
Looking from the silverware to Ruby and back again, Weiss’ expression was one of pure incredulity.
“Let me get this straight...Yang made you invite me over to make sure you don’t end up back in the hospital, but you want me to shoot knives at you and hope you can catch them before they impale you?”
“Yeah!”
Smiling, Weiss shook her head.  “No...I’m not going to do that.”
Her balloon of excitement deflating, Ruby dropped the silverware onto the table as Weiss stood and joined her in the kitchen.  Moving with an air of determination, Weiss methodically searched through the drawers herself before pulling open the fridge and rummaging around inside.  A few seconds later, she emerged with a bag of grapes in hand.
“I would be willing to throw these at you though,” she said with a pleased grin.
See?  This was why Weiss was so much smarter than Ruby.
“Yes!”
Pumping one fist in victory, Ruby slowly and carefully made her way back to the living room and stood in front of the television.  Ok, that was a lie.  She kind of, sort of ran-hopped.  But Yang wasn’t around to say whether or not it was too fast.  A speed limit was useless unless there was a cop around to hand out tickets!
That didn’t mean Ruby was dumb enough to use her semblance though.  One runaway petal and she’d be as good as caught red-handed.
With Ruby in place, Weiss took a seat on the sofa and set the bag of grapes on the cushion beside her (the coffee table had yet to be replaced after its unfortunate accident).  Carefully plucking one grape out of the bag, she held it up for Ruby to see.
“Are you ready?”
Rubbing her hands together, Ruby nodded and focused on the small, green orb between Weiss’ fingers.  Nodding in return, Weiss tossed the grape towards Ruby in a slow, meandering arc.
Ruby was about to complain that that was way too easy - then a white/blue glyph appeared out of nowhere.  The instant the grape hit the glyph’s surface, it shot off at a completely different angle and nailed Ruby in the side like a friendly version of a mini rocket.
“Wow!” she exclaimed, watching the grape roll away from her before turning back to Weiss.  “That was super fast!”
“Did you think I’d take it easy on you?”
Stunned by the response, Ruby looked at the grape on the floor before grinning at Weiss.  There was a playful sparkle in Weiss’ eyes that suggested Ruby should’ve known better than to expect such an easy game.
Well, she knew better now!
“Ok,” she said, bending her knees and raising her hands in preparation.  “I’m really ready this time.  No more drops!”
Nodding, Weiss held another grape up so Ruby could see.  This time Ruby made sure to focus all her attention on the tiny orb - every single bit of focus she had in her entire body.
In not-really slow motion, Weiss drew her hand back and let it fly.
Determined to catch this one, Ruby pinpointed the grape in the air and figured out its trajectory - but the game didn’t stop there.  At the first glimpse of white, she locked onto the glyph as it appeared and determined the angle it was pointing in relation to the grape.  As soon as the two met, Ruby shot her hand out to where she anticipated the grape would go and closed her fingers around the squishy object.
“Aha!” she cried out in success, holding up the grape in victory.
“Good job,” Weiss congratulated her with a smile.
“Yes!” Ruby exclaimed, hopping with joy.  “Blake’s gotta watch out - she’s not the only ninja anymore!  Ruby Rose is the sneakiest of sneaky in this house now!”
Ruby waved her hands around like a ninja - making karate chops in the air - before a small object bounced off her side.  Looking around in surprise and finding another grape rolling away, she turned back to the sofa and found Weiss trying to stifle her laughter.
“Looks like you missed one, Miss Ninja.”
Playfully narrowing her eyes, Ruby popped the grape into her mouth and raised her hands at the ready.
“Oh, you think you’re soooo good at throwing grapes and stuff?” she teased.  “Bring it on!”
“You’re not ready for this.”
“I totally am!  You’re not ready for this!”
When Weiss arched one brow at the lame comeback, Ruby shook her head.
“Or something more witty than that!  Just - let’s see what you’ve got!”
Waving her hands around like the world’s most skilled goalkeeper, Ruby watched Weiss prepare for the next round of this battle between two equally matched foes.  Equally matched, as in one of them was not better than the other.
Maybe Ruby should be concerned by the handful of grapes Weiss was holding in one hand...but she wasn’t!  She was slick as a ninja!  Quick as a cat!  More Blake references!
Squeaking in surprise when Weiss threw not one but two grapes in the air, Ruby watched as two glyphs pointing in different directions successfully pelted both grapes into her on opposite sides.
Ok, so Weiss was pretty good at this.
“Lucky shot!” Ruby called out before ducking as a grape whizzed over her head.
She managed to catch one out of the next three grapes thrown her way, but the moment she paused to say “Aha!” two more ricocheted off of her back.  Her back!  Tossing the grape at Weiss - who deftly dodged out of the way - Ruby yelped while trying to catch two more, but they flew into her instead.
If this was a competition, Weiss was winning.  It wasn’t even close.  But it was still equally matched.
Ruby was going to catch the next one, but then the glyph rotated at the last second and sent the grape spinning off of her shoulder.  And the next grape stuck to the glyph for a half second longer than expected, the white patterns swirling together before firing the grape like a shot out of a cannon.
Every time Ruby squealed when a grape hit her, Weiss laughed.  And every time Weiss laughed, Ruby couldn’t help but laugh too.
Laughing made it a lot harder to focus on the flying missiles, but she started having more success after the first dozen or so grapes.  Whenever she managed to catch one, she’d throw it at Weiss - only for it to fly right back at twice the speed.
She was losing the battle and the war, but it didn’t matter when she was having so much fun.
“Ok!” she finally called out, raising her hands in surrender (which only exposed her ribs for Weiss to hit with two last-second grapes).  “Ok, I give up!  You win!”
Slowly lowering her hands, Ruby beamed when she saw Weiss’ twinkling eyes and amused smile.
“So you’ve had enough?”
Ruby smiled when she saw the tease in Weiss’ eyes.
Most of the time, Weiss was calm and collected.  But right now, she was...playful.  It was like she’d briefly let go of whatever plagued her and allowed herself to be happy and free.
Playful, happy Weiss was now one of Ruby’s favorite things…
Looking at the floor littered with grapes, Ruby bent down to collect a handful for herself.
“Hey, it’s not that easy!” she replied while standing up with her ammunition.  “Why don’t you try?  Teach me your ways, oh wise one.”
Ever a good sport, Weiss nodded and stood from the sofa.  Crouching slightly, she raised both hands like Ruby had just been doing.  After taking a brief moment to appreciate Weiss’ super cute expression of concentration, Ruby looked down at the grapes in her hand.
She didn’t have super cool glyphs like Weiss did.  She had her speed, but that wasn’t helpful in this situation - not that she was allowed to use her semblance anyway.  But what she lacked in awesome glyphs, she made up for in ingenuity!
She could throw just one grape, but that wouldn’t be a challenge.  Two would also be pretty easy…
Fortunately, she had the element of surprise on her side - because she had a doozy of a plan!
Picking up a solitary grape, Ruby held it in her left hand and swung her arm back like she was going to throw it.  But, at the same moment she let that grape fly, she shot her other hand forward and threw the entire fistful of grapes at Weiss at once.
It was brilliantly executed.
As was the glyph Weiss formed in front of her to capture all of the grapes in midair.
Catching the flash of a smirk on Weiss’ lips, Ruby instinctively covered her head and turned as the grapes pelted into her - every single one of them bouncing off of her before falling to the floor.
Only when the barrage ended did Ruby lower her hands and start giggling - looking over to the sofa to find Weiss laughing too.  And laughing Weiss was just...the best.
“How did you know I was gonna do that??” Ruby asked through her giggles, only for Weiss to smile and shrug.
“It seemed like something you would do.”
“Uh oh.”
“What?” Weiss asked, her expression quickly turning to one of concern.
“You know me too well,” Ruby concluded with a grin.  Relaxing, Weiss returned the grin with a smile - another one of those amazing smiles that reached her eyes and made them shine with joy.
Ruby loved seeing that - she loved it when Weiss smiled so freely.  She loved it when Weiss relaxed and had fun.  And she loved being able to bring out this side of Weiss, if only for a few seconds at a time.
Ruby would’ve shared that smile forever, but Weiss eventually broke eye contact and looked at the mess of grapes on the floor.  As she did so, her walls slid back into place, and the carefree version of Weiss slipped away.
It was a fast change, and it left Ruby with a strange feeling of loss - but she wasn’t discouraged.  If Weiss was still here, there was nothing to be discouraged about.
“Oh!  I have an idea!” Ruby said as a plan popped into her mind.  Runn - walking quickly to the fridge, she pulled out a carton before rushing back to the living room and pressing it into Weiss’ hands.
“What’s way more awesome than grapes?” she asked, grinning at her genius idea.
Looking down at the carton in her hands, Weiss then looked at Ruby in disbelief.
“You can’t be serious -”
“Deadly serious!  Come on - it’ll be fun!”  Pressing her palms together, Ruby begged with her eyes - using the best set of puppy dog eyes she had.
After briefly biting her lip, Weiss fought back a smile while pulling two eggs from the carton and setting the rest on the floor by her feet.  Holding one of the fragile items up in the air, she gave Ruby a playfully serious expression that did little to mask her enjoyment of the situation.
“You’d better catch these.”
Taking the words as acceptance of the idea, Ruby giggled in delight while hopping over to her spot in front of the TV.
Honestly, she didn’t care if she caught the eggs or not.  All that mattered right now was that the happy version of Weiss was back.

I've FINALLY watched every Death Note adaptation and spin-off, so here are my thoughts and ratings for all of those, including the original:
Japanese Musical (2015): Easily the best anime/manga based musical I've ever seen. Not only did it cover the most important things from the original, not only did the stage interior and effects look good while being very simple (and probably cheap?), but the songs are so damn good and catchy, I find myself humming and singing them often.
Now, I think the japanese versions of the songs have very simple lyrics, sometimes to the point of being a little silly ("you'll die, I'll win", for example, from the song "Last Moments"), while the english versions of the songs have a bit more depth and are perhaps a bit more poetic.
However, sometimes that simplicity works REALLY well (from the same song I mentioned, the part that comes after that one line, sung by another character, is "Can you not see what's left? There is only emptyness when the game is over". That's very effectful while also being SO true, for both of the main characters. The english version, while great, didn't even mention emptyness).
The actors and singers were mostly very good! There was a few (like the person who plays Sayu, and some supportive characters) that didn't sing that well, but because they rarely sang in the musical, it didn't ruin the overall experience for me. I love the actors/singers who played L and Light. They both captured what the characters are all about, and they sang well.
The ending to the musical is probably the best of all the different Death Note endings imo. Maybe not the perfect ending, but still darn good. My only compaint as far as writing goes, is that L's "your my first friend" line doesn't feel genuine... because he and Light had only played a tennis match together before that. In the original story, they interacted more before L said that, making it feel genuine. Otherwise, great stuff. 8/10.
Death Note, the first two japanese live action movies: They are OK. They made some changes but covered most of the important stuff from the manga. I think these two movies probably serve as a decent introduction to the Death Note universe, but are also good for people who just prefer watching movies over longer series/anime.
The actors aren't the best, but I've definitely seen worse. CGI looks preeetty bad, so the Shinigami looks like PS2 models (thankfully, they look way better in Light up the new world). The ending to the 2nd movie is pretty satisfying, something I think most fans would agree with. 7/10.
Light up the New World: It was better than I thought it would be. It took ideas that were already in the manga and mixed them into a new story, and it had... mixed results. It had some enjoyable and well directed scenes tho, and I think the new main characters were alright.
The finale was probably my favorite part, even if it was kinda typhical. You have to watch the first two live action movies to understand this one tho. 6/10.
TV drama: L was to much of a silly pretty boy, Light having feelings for Misa was kinda dumb and pointless, and Mello wasn't even a real person in this version (and that doll of him was just creepy).
It does have some good moments tho, with some interesting new stuff. And it's nice to finally have an OK live action version of Near, even if he was different from how he was like in the original. 5/10.
L: Change the World: What does some virus have to do with Death Note? And how is a movie focusing on L so dull?! Many scenes were quiet, boring and didn't reveal anything of importance, not about the characters, nor about the plot. About as exciting as waiting for your toast to pop up from the toaster... actually that's more exciting, because atleast, you get bread.
Sometimes, I THOUGHT something interesting would happen, but nope. None of the new characters were interesting either, and the actors were not good. The only "good" part of the movie was when L's kids started crying, and he just sat there awkwardly in the background, drinking tea, lol.
Oh, and Near sucked in this version and I kept forgetting that that random, annoying kid was supposed to be him (isn't revealed until the end but anyway). This is another movie that you'll only understand if you've watched the first two live action movies. 3/10.
Netflix: Pure garbage. I was bothered by how dumb Light was (and the twist at the end didn't make him seem smarter, even if the creator wants us to think that) and how he didn't have the same drive to create a better world like the original Light, and L acted WAY to emotional and not very smart, and he's supposed to be the world's greatest detective.
But the movie's biggest problems, imo, are the terrible actors, the crappy direction, the unnecessary goore, and most of all: the Death Note rules that they establish at the start only to break them in the end. The Light/Mia romance was bad too. Also, the music Adam Wingard chose for most scenes didn't match the mood at all. This movie's a joke. 2/10.
Manga: The original really is great. The first two halves of the story had so many exciting and well written scenes, and all the main characters got fleshed out, and every supportive character had some use for the story too (except Ibe, I guess).
Some people don't like the last third of the story, but I kinda do. Sure, it's a shame L died, but both Near and Mello were good characters, and I feel fans don't appreciate them as they should, least of all Near, who seem to get a lot of hate for whatever reason.
I also liked Mikami, and the last third of the story had several amazing moments, like Souichiro's death, the SPK wasting L's money to distract the Kira supporters, Kira's confession, etc. It was also interesting to see how the world had changed their view on Kira after the time skip.
Death Note had plenty of exciting moments, had fascinating characters, a great rivalry (between L and Light), had some good jokes, and it's one of those kinds of stories that makes you want to discuss about right and wrong, one justice vs another, and so on.
The art was great, and got better as the series continued too. The speech bubbles kinda covers up some of that beautiful art tho, lol. My only real problem with Death Note is that it should've been longer. I wanted to seen more of the characters and see them interact, see more of the shinigami, and I wanted the other Death Note rules to be used to Light's advantage. 9/10.
Anime: Just as great as the manga...but I enjoyed it even more than the original because of the great direction, soundtrack and VAs. Kappei was the perfect L, and Miyano was the perfect Light. All the VAs fit their characters.
I had no problem at all with how MADHOUSE changed Light's death. It felt more sad than pathethic like in the manga, but watching him die alone, thinking that he saw L before he died, was very effectful. Also, the sad feeling fits well with Miss committing suicide . I've seen people complain about the rain scene, but it's actually pretty good, even if L acts slightly ooc (he's back to his usual self in the scene after, which makes it extra whiplash-y, but eh, whatever. I think it was nice to see a more human side of him). 9/10.

A Change of Plans
A/N: All right, this one’s a little saucier - and shorter - than the last one (at least in my mind...maybe not, the last one was pretty saucy), but this one has a little bit more of a personal side to it.  I’ve always struggled with body confidence issues, so why not write about it?  It’s a common issue, but still one that is tough to overcome, and whenever I have a problem to deal with or something I’m thinking about a lot...I write.  So here you go.
college!AU
Pairing: Yoongi/Reader
Synopsis: You’ve been dating Yoongi for a little while now, but you still aren’t absolutely convinced he’s totally into you - mostly due to the fact that the two of you still haven’t hooked up yet.  What if he doesn’t really want you as much as you want him?
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1.8K
Oh, my god.  I should never have listened to my roommate.
“You look fabulous,” she’d said, embracing me and all but shoving me out the door of our room.
I glance down at my dress and press my legs harder together.  I’m not ready for this level of…showmanship, shall we say.  This dress is so short…and tight…and on top of that…it’s red.  And I don’t mean like a nice muted scarlet or a gorgeous soft maroon – it’s bright fucking red.  Like a “Hey, everybody, look at me!” kind of red.
This was all my roommate’s idea.  She and I are decently close friends, but she’s never really seemed to…believe me when it comes to my…issues.  Confidence isn’t exactly up there on my list of qualities to show off.
I don’t know why. I’ve never been particularly overweight, but I just…don’t have that great of a body.  I’ve got some lumps and bumps and curves in the wrong places – if you know what I mean – and I just don’t like skintight clothes that much. Okay, I hate them, but that’s beside the point.
I take a few tentative steps down the hall, nearly faceplanting more than once.  I told her I didn’t want to wear these heels.  Four inches is way too high for me – and it’s not like I’m short.  I could’ve worn flats and been just fine…but no.  She wanted me to wear the heels.
“They’re sexier,” she’d said.
Right.
I glance at my reflection as I pass the big window at the end of the hallway.  God, you can see all the way down the front of this dress. The cleavage on this thing is ridiculous.  That’s another thing my roommate wanted though.
“If you want to impress a guy,” she’d told me, “you gotta show off what you got.”
I don’t necessarily agree – especially because the guy I’m trying to impress is already, um… Well, we’re kind of a thing.  I don’t really know.  We’ve been dating for a few weeks now, but he’s never mentioned anything about making it official, and I’m not even sure if he wants to.  We still haven’t, you know, hooked up either, if that’s anything to go by. Granted, I’ve never seen him with another girl since we started going out, and I haven’t been flirting with anybody else, but that doesn’t mean we’re exclusive.
I approach the stairs and take a deep breath, preparing myself for the journey ahead.  This is gonna take a minute…or ten.  As I go to take the first step, I see a notification pop up on my phone.
Yoongi: hey I’m downstairs
Y/N: ok on my way
Just about an eternity later I finally reach the bottom step, and I swear I almost fell probably about six hundred times.  These heels are no joke.  I pause and look at myself using the windows in front of me, checking to make sure my hair still looks good and whatnot…yep, all good.  All right.  Let’s do this.
I turn the corner, hoping the front of confidence I’m trying to put up is strong enough to last at least a few minutes.  I spot the man of the hour leaning up against a wall on the other side of the dorm lobby gazing out the window – and he looks fine. Black pants, black button-down shirt – with the sleeves rolled up, mm-hmm – black hair smoothed over so his forehead is showing.  Hot damn.
I clear my throat softly to get his attention, and I see his face change when he sees me.
“Whoa,” he mutters, so soft I can barely hear.
“I could say the same about you,” I toss back, trying to disguise the quiver in my voice.
He seems completely speechless as his eyes pan up and down, up and down – and pause.  He’s never seen me in anything this revealing, so I’m not surprised at his reaction.  I watch the internal struggle on his face as he pulls his eyes back up to meet mine.
“Goddamn,” he says in a much lower and huskier tone than before.
I can feel the urge to hide rising in my head as I subconsciously lower my hands and start tugging on the hemline.  I’m not even sure I’m comfortable enough to go outside in this, let alone accompany Yoongi to the bar we’re supposed to go to.  I can feel my false confidence disappearing by the second as I watch him undress me with his eyes.
“Um,” I mumble, still tugging at the dress, “I just realized I forgot something.  I’ll be right back.”
I have to get out of this dress.  I don’t care how much begging it takes to get my roommate to let me change.  This isn’t going to work.
My heart is racing as I climb the stairs again as fast as my ridiculous footwear will allow.  Man, I raced out so quickly I didn’t even give Yoongi a chance to respond.  I hope he can understand.  He should understand…right?
But just as I step off the final stair and into my hallway, I feel a hand grab my wrist and gently tug.  I turn and – surprise, surprise – Yoongi is looking back at me with a look I’ve never seen on him before.  His eyes are so intense I almost can’t handle it.
“There is absolutely no way,” he pants in a low voice, “I’m letting you go back in that dorm room right now.”
Damn it, he figured it out.
“Why?” I say quietly, trying my hardest to act innocent.
“Because…”
He pauses for a moment.
“You’ll take the dress off.  And while I do want that to happen,” he tugs on my wrist a little and closes the space between us, “I want it to happen in a dark room with just the two of us…and I want to be the one to take it off of you.”
He’s practically purring into my ear as he says that.  My heart is absolutely racing now.  I certainly wasn’t ready for this – nor was I expecting this outfit to have this effect on Yoongi.  My eyes are wide and I’m struggling to keep breathing.  This man is intoxicating, and it’s hard to deal with.
As he backs me up against the wall right by the stairs, I’m grateful the dorm is mostly empty tonight. I’m really the only one still here that isn’t either studying frantically or passed out asleep, which is good because this seems like a moment that shouldn’t be interrupted.  I feel Yoongi’s slender hands gently squeezing my waist, pulling me closer into him.  His hot breath on my neck is giving me goosebumps – this is definitely a new experience for me.
Damn.  If I had known he’d react like this…
Any coherent thought I had in my head disappears once I feel tongue on my neck.  The pressure pushing me into the wall behind me is growing stronger – and if the obvious bulge in his pants is anything to go by, Yoongi seems to be getting a little desperate.  His self-control is incredible though – he’s settled for only kissing instead of trying to leave any sort of mark, though I’m pretty sure if I gave him permission he’d gladly do just that.
But there’s always a tipping point to these things.  And that point is the first time I feel Yoongi grind his hips into mine, and I feel a spike of heat surging to my core.  The neck kisses stop immediately after that, and he pulls away just enough to look me in the eyes.
“I think we need to go,” he rasps in a voice just barely above a whisper.  “I don’t think I can hold off much longer.”
“Okay,” I nod, thoughts hazy and swimming with lust.
Neither of us move for a few seconds, and part of me thinks Yoongi might be scared to move at all. But he does pull away, grabbing my wrist again and pulling me behind him as he hurries downstairs.  At this point, I don’t care about my shoes – I reach down and yank them off, and I want to just leave them in the stairwell, but a voice stops me.
“Keep them,” Yoongi says in a commanding tone.
I don’t question him; instead I tuck the heels under one arm and try not to trip down the stairs as I follow Yoongi.  I want to tell him to slow down, but something tells me he wouldn’t listen – he’s too focused on his objective.
Once we reach the bottom, Yoongi spins around and pins me to the wall again, this time going straight for my lips.  His hands are roaming now, from my waist to my hips down to my ass, squeezing as they go. His kisses are hungry – he seems just barely able to keep control of himself.
“We should definitely go,” he moans between kisses.  “Please…unless you want me to bend you over and take you right here.”
My eyes go wide at that – while that’s not a plan that seems particularly attractive to me, there is something exhilarating about the idea of doing it in such a risky place like this.  But before I can answer, Yoongi dives back in, devouring my lips with a newfound intensity that takes my breath away.  Before I can fully respond to him, I feel his lips moving down my jaw and back to my neck again.
“My god, you taste good,” he murmurs, laving his tongue over my pulse point.  “Hmm.  We gotta go.”
With that, Yoongi takes my wrist again and pulls me hard and fast out the door and towards his car. I’m definitely a little hot under the collar by now – or I would be if this dress had anything resembling a collar. I’m sure my cheeks are flushed, and I keep having to press my thighs together when I’m not struggling to keep up with my date.
As soon as the passenger door is unlocked I yank it open and half-throw myself inside.  I’m totally on board with wherever Yoongi wants to go at this point.  I just know, I need some relief.  The heat between my legs is killing me.
There’s a brief pause once both of us are inside the vehicle.  Yoongi looks at me, his eyes burning.  His mouth hangs open as he labors to breathe.  Finally he speaks.
“Do you want to,” he tries to start, “um…  Do you want to, like, go somewhere?  I’d say let’s go back to my place, but if you aren’t comfortable with that—”
I silence him with another kiss.
“Do you have Netflix and access to pizza?” I ask quietly, running my finger down his neck.  “You know, for afters.”
“Y-yeah.”
I press my lips to the shell of his ear.
“Then why are we still here?”

Perfect P7 ~ Choni
(A/N) Sorry for the semi-late posting of this. I know I was doing daily updates their for a while, but I don't think that will be feasible anymore. My goal is to post AT LEAST once a week. Even with school, work, and everything else I still want to give you quality content and I think that's better than quantity. I hope everyone can understand and be patient with me though and thank you for reading regardless. In addition, I love reading your comments. Especially ones about who you think is the mystery box sender so please keep it up with those. They really make my day. Anyway, thanks pals and enjoy a simple, but nice chapter.

Cheryl’s hand tapped a pattern less knock into Toni’s front door. Although the bell sat right next to her hand, the urgency seemed to be more palpable when she knocked it out onto the wooden plank before her.
She didn’t stop knocking until a much to annoyed Toni screamed from inside that she was coming and opened the door only to have a grimace form on her face seeing the visitor before her.
“You have to be joking.” Toni’s voice was laced in sarcasm as she continued to stare at Cheryl with a less than pleased face.
“Not a joke. Really rather important actually.” Cheryl didn’t wait for an invite and instead rushed into the trailer, pushing aside Toni in the process. If she’d been able to see Toni’s face, she might have noticed the defeated expression that crossed the other girl’s features as she shut the front door and turned to see whatever the redhead was doing in her home.
“Alright. What’s with Pandora’s box sitting on my coffee table?” Toni began walking into the living room where Cheryl had already placed the box down and was now sitting on the couch in wait of Toni.
“That is actually a very accurate description of this wooden horror-show.” Cheryl once again waited for Toni as the other girl hadn’t quite caught the hint that she was meant to sit down next to Cheryl to view the box before her.
With a roll of her eyes, Toni joined Cheryl on the couch, still managing to keep a decent amount of space between them, and waited for Cheryl to continue.
“So this was left on my doorstep, of all places, and decided to show a very unwelcomed surprise to yours truly.” Cheryl raddled off what she thought to be a decent explanation.
“Cheryl, stop playing the pronoun game and tell me what’s going on.” Toni’s voice still showed signs only of displeasure as the last thing she was in the mood for was some stupid game of unintentional charades.
“Well the element of anticipation is just completely lost on you isn’t it.” Cheryl would’ve continued on her rant about Toni’s inability to experience the moment had it not been for the look she received from the pink haired girl in addition to remembering what the box contained.
“Forget it. I’ll just show you.” Cheryl grabbed the sides of the lid and lifted it up to reveal the screen within. Toni’s face was instantly one of confusion as she watched the screen come into full view.
Both girls waited for a few moments before Toni finally got fed up. Obviously, the anticipation that was meant to be had was just a silly game of Cheryl’s.
“Haha. Very funny Cheryl. What a great way to waste my time days before we start senior year. You got me, so can you go now?” Toni spoke in a monotone voice as she moved to get up from the couch.
“Wait. No. This isn’t what happened earlier.” Cheryl went frantic spinning the box around and feeling for anything that she’d missed. She even went as far as to open and close the box a few more times perfectly mimicking her steps from earlier in hopes of getting the video to pop up as it had.
Seeing the look in her eyes, Toni realized that perhaps Cheryl wasn’t trying to pull her leg after all. With another look back at the box, Toni sat down onto the couch once more and grabbed Cheryl’s hand to make her calm down.
“I swear this played a video earlier Toni. I swear on JJ’s name.” Hearing this, Toni’s eyes went wide for a moment. Cheryl was never one to joke about Jason, so if she was confident enough to swear by his name, then she had to be telling the truth.
“It’s ok, just calm down. Walk me through what happened when this video played the first time.” Toni locked eyes with Cheryl’s as she continued to try and calm the other girl.
“Um...I got the box off the front step. It had been left there by someone. I took it inside to the dining room and laid it down. Then I was going to break it because I couldn’t get it to open but I saw these seams at the top and when I pushed them in --” Toni squeezed Cheryl’s hands to silently tell her to stop speaking.
“Wait. So you’re saying that this part wasn’t always pushed down?” Toni gestured towards the sunken down portion of the box before looking back at Cheryl.
Hearing Toni say it outloud made the same thought click into her head. The box only worked because she pressed down on the top. Now that she’d already pressed down on it, there was no hope of getting the video to play again.
“You’ve got to be kidding me! Why would you send something like that and only allow it to be played once?” Cheryl was on her feet now. The way she was pacing back and forth in the living room had Toni feeling dizzy.
“What exactly was the video about anyway.” This stopped Cheryl’s movements and instead she looked down and started playing with her fingers.
“It was the video. The one we saw being taken at the party. The one of us…” Cheryl trailed off as everything came into place for Toni. Her eyes went wide and she was on her feet ready to storm out of the house.
“So someone actually sent you a video of that? Why would someone even keep something like that? What is wrong with this stupid town?” Toni was infuriated and it was evident by every movement she made. Now she was the one pacing and Cheryl almost didn’t want to share the other bit of information where the wooden box was concerned.
“That’s not all though.” Cheryl’s voice once again trailed off leaving Toni to turn and look at the girl as she waited for her to continue. “The video I got told me that if we couldn’t figure out who was responsible for this, they’d release the video at homecoming.”
Toni’s mouth dropped. Sure, it wouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone to find out she liked girls. Everyone had already thought she did for years. The problem though was in the fact that while Toni had never denied the rumors to her name, she’d never proven them either. Depending on what portion of that video was shown, everything she’d internally known she wasn’t would have physical evidence for the rest of the world to use against her. She couldn’t have that.
Another part of her told her that she also couldn’t allow this video to leak for the sake of the girl standing across from her, but that part of her would not receive the privilege of being vocalized.
“You mean to tell me that someone is blackmailing us with this and we have to find them before homecoming just so they won’t release it?” On hearing herself back, Toni almost felt dumb. Yes. That was exactly what Cheryl had told her. She just didn’t want to believe it.
Cheryl nodded her head as she lifted it to meet Toni’s eyes. Both of them stayed like that until the air around them seemed all too burdensome. Toni found herself sitting back on the couch with a thud as she attempted to breathe normally.
Cheryl joined her on the couch and they both just sat. The information was something hard to swallow. It wasn’t like finding out that a secret of theirs had actually been released. It made it worse knowing that it still wasn’t public knowledge. It made it worse understanding that the hands that held their lives in the balance, saw this more as a game then as a serious matter.
Thinking on this, Toni felt herself get angry. While most of her anger was directed at the mysterious sender of the black box, a faceless senders was infinitely more complicated to blame. The girl sitting next to her; however, was not.
“God. This is all your fault.” Toni whispered it at first. It was just enough to get Cheryl’s attention. When Toni repeated herself in a much louder voice, Cheryl was taken back by it and found herself moving away, closer to the opposite side of the couch.
“How is this my fault?” Cheryl was on the defensive now. Her hands were firmly planted onto the cushions beneath her as she gained the courage to move closer to Toni once more.
“Well it’s not like I’m the one who kissed you! Last time I checked, you’re the one who started all of this.” Toni was on her feet now, yelling down at Cheryl. To match this, Cheryl also found herself on her feet which put Toni at a slight disadvantage given the height difference.
“Yeah well you’re the one who got all hot and heavy! So what if I kissed you? If you’re so high and mighty you could’ve just walked away!” Cheryl’s finger was in Toni’s face as she spoke. Neither girl wanted to admit that the other had a point. No matter how you turned it, they were both responsible in some way for this video being taken in the first place.
“You’re actually unbelievable! Why are you even here if all you wanted to do was say we’re screwed?” Toni almost sounded defeated with her last question. It was as if everything they’d been screaming about hit her in one solid blow to the gut, and now she was left with the overwhelming feeling of dread that consumed her facial features.
“You know what, you’re right! Why did I bother coming here just to get screamed at? As if we’d be able to do anything else.” Cheryl was irritated to say the least. With a frustrated sigh she went to pick up the box that had caused this whole mess and leave. After all, what’s the point in staying somewhere you weren’t wanted.
Before she could get her hands on the box though, she felt a rough push to her shoulders that sent her flying back onto the couch she’d previously been sitting on. Looking up, Cheryl was met by eyes that had become glazed over in what she could only define as lust.
Toni crawled on top of her in an almost desperate manner and attached their lips without a second thought. Cheryl wanted to scream. While this wasn’t exactly unenjoyable, it was definitely not the time or place for it. They were staring into the black abyss of the box next to them and yet all Toni had on her mind was...well...whatever this was.
“I can think of something else that we’re able to do.” Toni’s voice came out like a growl towards Cheryl. Looking back, Cheryl would’ve said it was that tone which kept her from pushing Toni off of her and leaving as she’d initially planned. She’d say that, but she’d be lying.
Although Toni looked at her more like something to devour than something to please, there was a look of want all the same. A look of want which Cheryl wasn’t and hadn’t been used to where the girl was concerned for some time. Despite the lust that fueled that gaze, it was still one that Cheryl couldn’t bare to waste.
Grabbing onto Toni’s neck, Cheryl pulled the other girl back down to her. Their lips connected as they had the past times, but it was obvious that whatever had been holding Toni back before was broken down unlike all her other walls.
Cheryl was quick to notice a bite on her lower lip as Toni went to disconnect them. When Toni let go, Cheryl was positive she could almost taste blood. She couldn’t care less though. As Toni straightened herself to be sitting on Cheryl rather than lying down and began moving her hands down the length of Cheryl’s body, the last thing the girl underneath could think about was a bit of blood.
Toni’s hands worked their way down the fabric of Cheryl’s shirt with ease. Occasionally, a stray finger would stroke Cheryl’s sides leaving her to jerk slightly with being tickled. This didn’t last long though as Toni quickly found herself moving down Cheryl’s body, careful to maintain a look in Cheryl’s eyes the entire time.
“You know, I bet you could do this yourself.” Toni stopped touching Cheryl as she sat back up with her legs positioned under her. Cheryl had a questioning look on her face, but Toni only smirked and moved to the farthest end of the couch, thus allowing her legs to slip out from underneath her.
“Why don’t you come here and fuck yourself like the dirty bitch you are.” Oh. Oh. Cheryl understood what was happening now.
With some hesitation, Cheryl found herself sitting up and crawling closer to Toni on her knees. Toni smiled slightly seeing that the other girl understood and merely moved to allow some space for the other girl to climb overtop of her and straddle her thigh.
“Show me what you’ve got you Blossom bitch.” Cheryl hummed at the term. She still couldn’t help but enjoy the way Toni spoke to her during all of this. While she’d never admit such things to anyone, within the privacy the two had for the moment, it was hard to ignore the surge it sent through her body.
With no further instruction, Cheryl began grinding herself down onto Toni’s thigh. It took a few tries to get the right angle, but once she’d found it, Cheryl would squint her eyes in an attempt at being quiet.
“Who said you were allowed to be quiet? I want to hear everything a slut like you has to say.” That word was new. Cheryl didn’t hate it. Matter of fact, the moan she let slip probably revealed more about how she felt than she’d like. She didn’t dare to look at Toni as she was sure the other girl would be smirking in that moment.
With the new instructions, Cheryl found herself unable to stay quiet as Toni’s hands glided over to her hips and began pushing them down into Toni’s thigh with every movement Cheryl made.
“Come on. You know that a slut like you is gonna need more than that.” Toni snarled out as she pushed down especially hard on Cheryl’s hips and left the girl to release a low sound of pleasure.
Cheryl quickly found her hands drifting to her breast as she gave both a squeeze upon reaching them. By doing so, she found that her eyes shut almost instantly and she was able to feel everything that much more intensely.
Although Cheryl’s shirt was still on, Toni was able to see the slow movements of Cheryl’s hands working herself over beneath the fabric. Looking at the open-mouthed face of the girl grinding down on her almost had Toni pushing her back down and fucking her senseless just for the hell of it, but she resisted. Watching this was far too fun after all.
As Toni continued to watch, she was able to see Cheryl’s face contort more and more with every menstruation she dealt herself. Seeing this, Toni decided it was time to make things a little more interesting.
With a simple bend of her knee, Toni angled her thigh in such a way that a short scream escaped Cheryl before the other girl quicked her pace. Toni almost laughed when Cheryl’s arms landed on her shoulders in a futile attempt to support herself in all the commotion. Being mindful to continue pushing down on Cheryl’s hips, Toni watched as the other girl came unraveled on top of her.
Cheryl was panting heavily by the time she’d passed the aftershock of her orgasm and was fully slouched down into Toni when her breathing began regulating itself again. Her forehead was nuzzled into Toni’s neck before she went to pull herself away and sit on the other end of the couch facing Toni.
Cheryl took a few moments, but before long, she almost looked like she hadn’t just had sex. Toni was almost impressed as she gazed at the shiny covering that coated her thigh.
“What are we going to do Toni?” Cheryl’s voice was quiet now. There didn’t seem to be anything left in her and an untrained eye would say it was due to her activities moments before, but the look that both Cheryl and Toni shared after the question told a different story.
“We’re gonna find this bastard and shove the tap and any copy of it they have down their throat.” Toni’s response was fast. She didn’t want to leave any room for questioning or doubt.
As the two girls sat in silence just staring at one another, it became apparent that no more questions were needed where they were concerned. They had enough to deal with.
