It took me far too long to realize that all the hard work had paid off and continued to do so, in regards to my writing. In the past, when I'd feel proud of a story or a scene, I'd immediately scramble back to, "Well, someone will read it, and they'll find the flaws, and they'll know I'm an imposter."
Every single person who writes - even those who've done it 50, 60 years - doesn't do it perfectly. That's impossible.
The definition of what makes "good" writing also varies per person. I personally love it when the writing style is a bit more poetic (you can see that influence slowly infiltrating my own work) and we hear details about the characters that give us more depth about their background and personality. Meanwhile, some people want that to be kept vague and for the story to cut to the chase.
I though my writing was too simple/basic, and I've been told my writing wasn't good enough for anyone to read in writing circles. I've been told my characters all fall into the same category. There's more history with this, but people read my fics and my original works and still liked them. I know these things weren't true then and they're especially not true now, but I was so insecure and afraid that I believed the negative commentary most.
I don't think being hard on myself was all that helpful, either. So none of that improved me. My methods of going about improvement did, but I might have done better at this stage in life if I hadn't let terrible people confirm my negative feelings.
(This isn't about criticism, either. I like concrit! But insulting someone's work or tearing it down in a public space for your friends to have a go just makes you a shitty person. It doesn't make you helpful whatsoever.)
I've also not been able to trust writing circles for years, which sucks. I have some friends who also write, but I'm typically pretty careful and don't do well integrating into new writing circles. Not really fair to the writers in them, so I've finally dipped out of trying to get involved in any until I figure out how to socialize without fearing that I'll end up the butt of all jokes.
And getting over that is hard, I tell you. Even now, I hesitate. "My writing might actually be all those things, and I'm defying reason by saying it's good." Only to then realize that if I wrote exactly like those people's favorite authors, but they knew it was me, it wouldn't matter how good it was. They were out to make fun. Maybe that stems from jealousy or just their own general insecurity that makes them need to drag down others with them. I'm sure some were not into whatever I was writing, but it's improtant to learn how to handle that without being cruel to the author and their work.
All I can really do about it is make sure that's the type of writer I never become. That's the best I can do: support writers by buying books, leaving genuine commentary on AO3, and enjoying my own writing journey.
I love writing. The joy of creating characters and worlds, of weaving them into words... I love that entire process so much. I told myself a year ago - when I took down all my writing from the public eye and locked my works in a private AO3 collection - that I wanted to focus on that for a while. It helped me so much to take a step back for about three months. I also don't mind that most of that stuff is still private.
I did leave up a couple of anon works, but only because I didn't want them to disappear at the same time that all my other writing did. (And those are still anon, and people don't know I've written them.)
These days, I still worry that even the writing I've set aside for publication will never take off, and that I won't have my writing career, but... that's never going to stop me from writing any of it. At this point, I don't think anything beyond a life-altering severe health issue or death is capable of stopping me.
This doesn't mean I doubt my writing quality! I think that the book industry isn't particularly great to begin with, and self-publication is complicated when you have to be your own PR person. What I write is also not for everyone. It's a little weird to say it's niche, as if that makes it special, but I just mean that it might only ever appeal to a small group of people.
I have to keep writing what's in my heart. But after all this time, I'm glad I'm still here, that I have always and will always write what I need to, for myself.
And it's also okay if I want to monetize some of it and share some of it for free, if I want to post or publish it because I think it's good enough to share. Libraries and book stores exist because people do that. We now have the internet to share our writing, whether it be original or fic, and I think that's a beautiful thing. (Side note that fic is just as valuable as original, and I don't condone saying one is better than the other. That's needlessly cruel to people who work hard on their writing writing, regardless of what they write. The publishing industry has its messes, but fics/fandoms do too, and you just have to find the writers who deliver what you like. If you exclusively prefer fic to original or original to fic, that's fine, just don't make your personal tastes a reason to insult millions of writers whose works you've never read. As an author of both and as a fan of authors who write both... I have a wider pool of writing to enjoy!) Anyway, I suppose I'll always fight some imposter syndrome, but... it's nice to also recognize my own skill level. It's nice to have others recognize it, too. I do think that helps a little. We all need some support and encouragement. We shouldn't forget our roots, but it's not necessary to take the journey through writing alone unless that's what we prefer. :)

─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
“Hey,” you mumbled to him, getting no answer, as per usual, and as always, he wondered if you’d ever stop saying hi to him on a Thursday morning before Potions.
Apparently not.
Draco sat infront of you, and mumbled a “shit!” before turning to you, “Y/N did you finish the assignment?”
“Oh… um, no,” you forgot about all your assignments lately. Theo occupied your mind way too much.
“What did you expect, that her dumb ass did it?” Theo mumbled and shoved his own finished paper at Malfoy. Your heart dropped and even Draco gave him a puzzled look. The friend group knew you and Theo stopped talking, they didn’t know most of the things he said to you tho.
But he shrugged it off, not caring much, and turned around to quickly copy the homework.
You stay quiet, practically not moving an inch, lost in your own head. You hear Theo smirk next to you. “Don’t act so surprised, it’s true,” he whispered.
You ignore him, knowing any word coming out of your mouth would be a stutter. You looked down on your own paper, deciding to at least try finish some of it before the class starts.
You read the first question and don’t even finish reading it, your eyes instead glued on your shaky hand. Theo notices too. “Aww,” he pouts, “don’t tell me you are upset now.”
“Fuck off Theo,” you finally say back, your voice breaking before saying his name. You never thought you’d be saying his name like this. With so much sorrow.
He lets out a silent laugh, “Do you wanna know what the funniest thing is?”
“No.”
“You can’t help but say hi to me every time. You hate me yet you seek me out every chance you get, hoping I’ll talk to you. It’s honestly amusing.” His voice was sharp.
You stay silent for a moment, gathering yourself up, hoping you won’t break. “Maybe I should stop.” You finally say. Not even denying anything he just said. It was the truth. You both knew it was. It just hurt as hell.
He laughs. “Now why would you do that? You would be so lonely without the only human interaction you keep so desperately hoping for. Plus you’d have no one to annoy.”
You don’t answer him. There are thoughts racing through your mind, you want to tell him so badly to go to hell, but you just don’t manage to say anything.
He leans closer to you, and whispers, just a little lower than his previous words, “You sure you don’t wanna tell me what’s on your mind?”
“You know,” you say, but don’t look at him, feeling anger gather in you as well, “you talk way too fucking much for someone who’s annoyed by me and wants me out of their life.” This time you do. You glare at him.
He looks you in the eye for a moment, and then smirks. “But I like to annoy you. You’re just too easy to rile up. It’s pathetic.”
You break eye contact with him again. It was the first time in a long time you even looked him in the eye, and you managed to feel tears staining your cheeks. You didn’t want him to see it. And in that very moment, you felt your heart truly break. Your teacher appeared in the door the very second you grabbed your bag and got up.
“Ah, miss Y/N—“
“Sorry,” your voice broke as you walked past the teacher.
“That’s a shame, she didn’t finish the paper,” the teacher mumbled as he was taking all the papers from his students.
“She left it here,” Theo said and gave him the paper Draco managed to sneak back to him a second ago.
“Hm. And your paper, Mr. Nott?”
“I forgot about it… sorry.”
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
Something Theo told you this morning broke you. You’ve slowly been breaking for the last few months, whenever he’d ignore you, look away from you, not answer you or use cruel words, a little bit of you died. And there was nothing left after today.
You cried in your room for hours, thinking about when it all got so fucked up. You used to be close friends, taking classes together, going to the Forbidden forest together, he liked you enough to introduce you to his friends, even. One time he even got in a fight for you when some ass from Gryffindor tried to touch you.
Eventually you ended up kissing a few times, and stealing touches, and before you knew it he spent a few nights in your room, keeping you warm and whispering sweet promises that meant absolutely nothing now.
And then it stopped. Just like that. At first he ignored you, and then the cruel words came in, and it kept getting worse, all up until today.
Who knows how you even ended up here, in the middle of a Slytherin party, drowning in yet another drink.
“Hey, don’t you wanna calm down with that?” Draco laughed next to you and grabbed the cup from your hands. You gave him a quick look and reached for a new cup, and almost drank the whole thing again. “Nope.”
“Right. My guess is it’s to do with Nott?”
“Who?”
“Very funny,” he rolled his eyes and grabbed your back to stop you from falling. “Well, if you are over him, Cormac has been asking about you.” Theo almost broke his nose when he asked him, but Draco didn’t tell you that. It would be to no good.
“I can put a word in for myself, thank you,” Cormac suddenly appeared by your side and snuck his arm around your waist. Draco rolled his eyes and disappeared.
“What the fuck was that?!” Theo jumped in front of him and shoved him without thinking.
“Calm down,” Draco shrugged him off and took another sip from the cup he confiscated earlier. “It’s at least gonna be funny,” he nodded to Cormac leaning over your body and mumbling something to you.
“No the fuck it won’t,” Theo growled at him. He looked at you again, and the way Cormac was practically all over you… didn’t you mind?
Gosh, you were so infuriating, did you know that?
He noticed the way your hand brushed over Cormacs, and suddenly he felt sick to his stomach as well.
He noticed the way he kept telling you some bullshit and the way you giggled. And he thought to himself don’t you dare kiss him.
He swore he saw you look at him for just a second, like your eyes searched for him in the crowd, but before he could even process that, you were the one pulling Cormac in for a kiss.
You kissed Cormac. And it felt… wrong. Every single second of that kiss you were just thinking that he’s not Theo. How kissing Theo felt right, and how wrong this feels. You felt his hands on your hips and you felt like crying and breaking down again at the thought of Theo. Why couldn’t it be him?
You felt your eyes water again, but before you could pull back, someone pulled Cormac back so roughly he turned around immediately, and you just saw Theo slam his arm down on Cormacs face. And keep beating and kicking him until his friends dragged him away.
You felt furious. You grabbed his shoulder and turned him to you. “What the fuck Theo?!”
“You kissed him! I fucking—“
“And why the FUCK DO YOU CARE?!” You yelled at him, screaming in frustration. You saw him freeze in his spot for a moment.
He gathered his breath. “Because… you’re mine.”
This time you were the one to laugh at him. For the first time in months he heard your laugh and it didn’t sound as pretty as it used to. At all. “No, I’m fucking not. You keep hurting me, the only thing you do is hurt me and laugh at me, I don’t want to be yours. I wanted to, I really did…” you looked him in the eye, and found your voice breaking again, “but you pushed me away.”
He grabbed your arm, squeezing it in desperation, “You wouldn’t have kissed Cormac, would you? Tell me, why did you kiss him?”
“I don’t know…”
He raised his voice at you. “Don’t lie to me!”
You felt your eyes tearing up again. You tried to get away from his grip, all you wanted to do right now was to get away from him. You never wanted to feel this way. “Leave me alone.”
His grip only tightened as his voice got louder. “The truth, Y/N. Did you kiss him to make me mad?”
You looked at him in disbelief. “And why would me kissing someone even fucking matter?! You hate me, remember?”
He grew angry, he stepped closer to you, staring into your eyes. “Answer me. Did you do it to spite me or did you do it because you are attracted to him?”
“I did it to forget about you Theo.” You say, and his grip on you becomes loose, for the first time in so long you see an expression on his face. “Because you are in my head every fucking day since you left. And it hurts so much. You hurt me so much.”
He wanted to get closer to you, to say something, but you shook your head. “It’s your turn to answer the question. Why would you care if I kiss some random guy?”
“I don’t want some asshole hanging over you. I want you to myself…” he whispered.
“Then why do you treat me the way you do?”
He avoided eye contact with you, his body was shaking, he was fucked up, and it was the first time you saw him like this. “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how else to keep your attention, how to tell you how I feel. Do you understand?”
You were staring at him. Did he realise how ridiculous he sounded? “No, I don’t understand Theo. Just leave me alone.” You pulled away from his grip and turned around to walk away.
“Wait,” he chased after you and turned you around to him. “You still care about me?”
You looked down. Breaking at how pathetic you’re gonna sound now. “I will always care about you Theo… even if you don’t.”
He bites down on his lip in frustration, “Listen to me, I do care, okay? I do care, and I’m sorry,” he picked your chin up and looked you in the eye. And you saw in his eyes that this was still your Theo.
“Please understand. I don’t know how to show how I feel. How can you even stand me after the way I acted?”
You watch him and feel a tear, you quickly wipe it, afraid you’re gonna look dumb, ridiculous, pathetic, and all those other stuff he called you. “I don’t know.”
He gently wiped your cheek with his thumb and pressed a kiss on the spot. “I’ll get better, I promise. Just… give me another chance. Please.”
You go quiet for a moment. “Okay…” you give him a small nod. His eyes lit up, but before he can say anything, you continue, “one chance Theo. One. If you mess it up I’m gone forever.”
He gives you a small sad smile. “I’ll be good. I promise, just don’t leave me. I don’t know what I would do if you were gone. You don’t wanna know what I would do if you were gone.”
“Okay…” you mumble and give him a quick kiss, then pull him in for a hug. Theo wraps his arms around your waist and holds you close to him, letting out a deep breath.
He kissed the top of your head first, and then grabbed your chin again to force you to look at him. “Can I?” He leaned closer.
You gave him a quick nod. “Please…”
And he kissed you. Properly. Deeply. Hoping you’ll know how he feels if his words can’t tell you. You kiss him back, and it feels okay.
“Let’s get out of here…”

Sun-Kissed
Ted’s pool party turned out to be a lot more fun than you thought it would be…👀
Warnings: Joe looking like a beach babe, emphasize the BABE; smut; fingering if you squint; that freaking chain; etc.
Also this is like probs my first official time writing smut so hopefully it doesn’t bore you or make you cringe, if it does, I am so sorry :*)
Also, thanks to @balanceingrace for the encouragement❤️
Part Two is Here!
You and Joe arrive at Ted’s house for the pool party he was having for Memorial Day weekend. A lot of Joe’s teammates and their girlfriends and wives were going to be there as well, so you talked Joe into going so he could be social for once.
You sit down in-between Joe Bachie’s girlfriend, Holly and Sam’s girlfriend, Jess on the edge of the pool along with a couple of the other girls.
“That hair driving Joe nuts yet?” Holly asks and you giggle.
“Not yet anyway. He does mess with it constantly but I honestly think he likes it. We’ll see how he feels about it in July and August when its borderline 100 degrees during practice” you give her a smug look and she laughs.
“What do you think about it?” Jess smirks.
“I like it. It’s different. We were together for almost a year when he grew it out super long the first time and I didn’t mind it then but I’m curious to see what he’d look like with it now. That man has aged like fine wine so I’m excited to see some flow” you bite your lip and the girls giggle.
“You talkin’ shit?” Joe asks from behind you, standing over you.
“About you? Of course” you smile back at him and he just shakes his head as he hands you a cold bottle of water.
When you looks back at your man, you couldn’t help but let your eyes wander.
Joe had come back from playing basketball with some of the guys, his button up shirt all the way unbuttoned, showing his tan, sweaty, toned chest and torso. His chest being your weakness. His hair that has gotten longer over the past couple months and you were becoming feral over this new style he was trying. His hair was more blonde than usual, all thanks to the sun. The dirty blonde becoming low lights while the blonde really shown through. His Cartier sunglasses sitting nicely on his nose and cheekbones along with his chain around his neck that glittered in the sun, the rays bring out the jewels perfectly. Good God, you thought, if he just bent me over right now-.
“Damn, when did you turn into a slut?” You dip down your sunglasses at him, trying to joke with him instead of pouncing on him like a freaking tiger.
“A long time ago. When I started dating you” he dips his sunglasses down, copying you and shooting you a wink, which just made you even more hot. He’s such a jerk.
“Jesus” you mutter under your breath. This was too much stimulation for you, and you was afraid that if you looked at him any longer that you would
1) do or say something that no one else around should experience in public or 2) melt; which you were already doing.
“Well you need to quit because all of your ‘girlies’ can’t handle all of this” you motions to the heavenly being that was him. You couldn’t even handle all of that.
“Oh this is just for you, pretty girl. No one else to impress but you” he looks smugly at you, that famous smirk making its way onto his perfect lips.
And…it was done. That did you in.
You turn back around, facing the pool. You look over at Holly who knew what you were thinking.
“I’ll cover for you, get ya some” she smirks and nods her head towards the house.
“Thank you” you whisper to her before climbing out of the pool and facing back towards Joe. He chuckles lowly and you place your hand on his lower back, turning him around and pushing him nonchalantly into the house.
“Something wrong?” Joe asks you sarcastically, knowing the effect he has on you. Knowing your weaknesses that easily make you all hot and bothered for him.
You push him down the hallway and into the guest room and shutting the door behind you, locking it without even looking, just watching your man stare at you with eyes that were once bright blue, now dark as the depths of the ocean. And you were about to go for a dive.
“You” you tell him plainly. You make your way toward him, your hands finding their way to his bare, broad chest and your eyes looking up at him through your lashes.
“You are what’s wrong…but so right” you whisper.
In seconds, his strong hands grab your cheeks and his lips are on yours. Hard, unyielding, but loving and passionate. He couldn’t get enough of you and that damn berry chapstick you wore all the time. Your lips have never tasted any different.
His hands slide into your hair, gripping onto your long locks, slightly tugging which makes you moan against his mouth, causing his lips to curve up into a small smile.
Joe wasn’t one for PDA, but you get him in a room by yourselves, he was on you in less than a minute. Believe it or not, the man was handsy. But you didn’t mind the feeling of his strong, veiny hands on you, touching you, holding you. It was ecstasy.
His hands grip your hips as yours slide up his chest, to his shoulders, around his neck and into his dirty blonde hair that was now longer, easier to pull. He moans against your lips, spinning you around and letting you fall against the mattress, him going to pull his shirt off but you stop him.
“No. You better leave that on or so help me god-“
“Okay then” he chuckles, “can I take my shorts off or do I have to leave those on too?”
“Off, smart ass” you roll your eyes as you reach for his shorts, unbuttoning them and shoving them down his legs.
“These too?” He asks smugly, snapping the band of his boxer briefs against this skin.
“Joseph, I swear to god-“
“Okay, I’m done” he laughs, leaning down to reattach his lips to yours.
He quickly rids himself of his underwear, also quickly pulling your shorts and your blue bikini bottoms down all in one go and throwing them on the floor. He reaches behind your neck, his fingers sending chills down your spine as he pulls one the strings to your top loose, causing the tie to come undone.
He kisses down your neck, latching onto the place under your ear that makes you weak. He’s careful to not leave a mark, knowing you’d have his ass for having to walk back out to his teammates and their girls with a bright purple and red mark on your neck.
He makes his way down the column of your neck, you becoming a moaning mess, wanting him to be inside you already. He eventually arrives to your chest where he grabs onto the cloth of your matching blue bikini top with his teeth and pulling it down to expose your “perfect” breasts; his words.
“I’m obsessed with you” he says lowly, looking up at you through those blonde lashes and instantly latches onto your right nipple.
“Mmm” you moan, holding onto the back of his head, your fingers tangling into his hair as he swirls his incredible tongue around the bud.
He knew the other one was getting jealous so he moved over to your left breast, giving it the same amount of attention as the right. Joe was neither a boob or a butt guy; he was both. If he had to choose between your boobs or your butt, he would surely die.
Joe pulls away from your chest and looks into your eyes. He takes his index and middle finger and brings it to his mouth, licking them and bring them down to your core. You gasp as they brush your clit, him slowly circling it just to get you more worked up than you already were.
He drags them down to your entrance, teasing you as he feels the mess you’ve already made of yourself.
“Just wanted to make sure you were ready for me” he smirks.
“Always ready for you” you whine as he pulls his fingers away and brings them back up to his mouth, sucking your juices off of them.
“I know” he smiles.
He spits into his hand and brings it down to his dick who was also always ready for you.
You reach down and wrap your hand around him, slowly pumping him.
“O-oh shit” he groans, dropping his head to your shoulder.
You pick up the pace, a bead of precum appearing on his tip, he was starting to become a moaning mess. You take your thumb and slide it over his tip and let go of him to bring your thumb to your mouth. Slipping it into your mouth, you swirl around it, tasting him to which he watches you intently.
“I need to feel you, now” he says, his voice low and raspy. He lines himself up with your entrance before slowly, almost painfully pushing himself in.
“God” you moan out, your breath hitching in your throat as he hit your cervix. You’ll never get used to him, it’s always a pleasant surprise.
“You feel insane, baby” he groans, his head dipping down to your shoulder, pressing a kiss to your collarbone. Your hands still in his hair, obsessed with gripping onto and pulling on his now longer blonde curls.
He pulls out and pushes all the way back in again, your eyes rolling to the back of your head. Joe starts to pick up the pace, the sound of skin smacking skin making the experience oh-so-much better and intense.
“Look at me” he breathes out, his face hovering over yours, that chain gently hitting your chin as he continues to thrust into you. Oh, that could make you come undone right then and there. God bless that freaking chain.
“You are so pretty, Jesus-“ he hisses, starting to fully pound into you, repeatedly hitting that soft spot inside of you, making your eyes roll back once again.
“Joe, I’m gonna-“ your eyes screwing shut as your hands go under the back of his shirt, gripping onto his muscular back.
“Let go, baby, let go” he grunts, his dick spasming against your walls as they clinch around him. He brings his lips back down to yours as you come undone, whimpering into his mouth as he continues to thrust into you, the oversensitivity starting to kick in.
With a couple more sporadic thrusts, moaning your name against your lips, he lets go, coating your walls.
He pulls out of you gently, both of you whimpering at the sensitive feeling. He lies down next to you, both of you trying to catch your breath.
“So the unbuttoned shirt is officially approved?” Joe asks, looking over at you and you giggle.
“10 stamps of approval” you smile at him and he couldn’t help but laugh.
“Cool” he smiles back at you before leaning over to you and pressing a sweet kiss to your lips.
“We should probably go back out there before they start to get suspicious” Joe sits up and pulls his underwear and shorts up his long legs and sets your bikini bottoms and shorts on the bed next to you.
“Joe, they’re not stupid, they know damn well what we came in here to do” you scoff and he laughs.
“Well, I’m going to blame it on you if they ask” He helps you stand up.
“Go right ahead and see what happens, you jerk” you narrow your eyes at him as you tie your bikini top strings back.
“Go pee. You can threaten me later, pretty girl” he winks and gives your ass a healthy smack as you make your way to the bathroom.
“It’s not threatening, it’s promising, JB” you tell him, patting his chest.
“Also,” you stop in the doorway, “you should wear that all of the time”
You smirk at him as he smiles at you.
“Oh I will wear it everyday if I get the exact same reaction I did today” he nods.
“Good” you wink and shut the door behind you.
After getting yourself cleaned up and fixing your sex hair, you walk back outside to where Joe was already sitting with the guys, chatting away.
You walk over to Joe and sit yourself on his thick thighs, your favorite seat to sit on, other than his face. Joe presses a kiss to the back of your shoulder, once again, sending a chill down your back. You shoot him a loaded look over your shoulder and he smiles up at you, those blue eyes glistening behind his sunglasses.
“Love you” he mouths to you and you blush.
“Love you” you mouth back and turn your attention back to the guys.
One of these days, he will be the death you. But hey, that would be a great way to go out.

PAIRINGS: Elizabeth Olsen x reader
WORD COUNT: 1863
WARNINGS: angst, guilt, arguing, kinda mean!Lizzie, jealousy, fluff, think that’s it :)
NO ONE IS PERMITTED TO STEAL, COPY, OR REBLOG MY WORK AS THEIR OWN!!
It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. The candles were the only light illuminating the room, the dinner you had prepared sat patiently on the table, and you wore her favorite dress.
She was meant to be home early tonight seeing as the two of you had been planning this for a few weeks. But as the clock continued to tick, your hopes slowly lessened. You had tried calling her eight times already, and six messages were left in her inbox now.
You sat with a frown, sighing with sadness lurking in your body. You rubbed your tired eyes that had tears prepped and gathered the food into a container, placing a sticky note on the top and writing ‘you missed date night again, here’s leftovers.’ It took up until an hour later when she finally answered your call.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“‘What’s up?’ Really? You’re asking me what’s up?” Her brows tightened, her confusion growing.
“Uhm, yes? What did I do? I’m confused.” You were growing angrier as she continued to speak, and you felt your hands clenching until they were reddened.
“Hm, I don’t know, Elizabeth, what did you do? Oh, that’s right! Our fucking date night is missed once again, what a surprise!” You heard a deep breath coming from the other side before a mumbled curse shot from her lips.
“Look, baby, I’m really sorry-“
“I don’t feel like hearing it right now, this is the third fucking time in the past two months alone that you’ve stood me up! Do you know how embarrassing it is to dress up all nice, make dinner, prepare candles and a bath, and clean every inch of the house to the brim just so we could have one nice night that you promised you’d finally make it to?”
“I know, I know, okay? I’m really, really fucking sorry, baby. I promise to make it up to you, I do.” You shook your head in disbelief with a chuckle.
“No, don’t promise me shit anymore. I can’t trust a word you tell me.” The both of you were suddenly interrupted, her by the director asking for her presence, and you by a call by your friend.
“Go ahead and leave, I’m getting a call anyways.”
“Wait- look, can we talk about this later?”
“Yes, bye.” You nearly pressed the button before her voice quickly entered once again.
“That’s it? No ‘love you?’”
“I have to answer Scarlett, Lizzie. Love you bye.” You cut off her last few words that came in revult and answered the call quickly, apologizing for taking so long the moment her voice met the sound waves.
“Don’t worry about it, I was just seeing if you were doing anything. I’m all alone and usually I would love that but I need some company.” You chuckled, leaning against the counter once you grabbed the glass of wine you earlier poured for yourself.
“Yeah, I’m all alone too. Me and Liz were meant to have a date tonight but she missed it again, so I’m all yours.” You could hear whatever actions the woman was doing come to a halt quickly.
“Are you serious? Again, Y/N? Why are you still letting her treat you like this?” You looked down to your glass, the reflection from the red drink making you realize how crappy your life was slowly becoming. If it wasn’t for Scarlett, you’d be all alone.
“I don’t mean to. Can you just come over maybe? I made dinner for us and, well, she didn’t touch it so it’s all yours.” Twenty minutes later a knock was placed on your door before she walked in. She didn’t need to knock, she only insisted on doing so to alert you of her arrival.
“Hello, darlin’, where’s my food?” You handed her a plate that you heated up, as you had taken the foot out of Lizzie’s container and redid your little table design. She oohed at the candles and pulled out your chair for you before heading to her own.
“Mm, this is delicious, sweetheart; you always know how to feed me right.” You chuckled softly, picking at your own.
“Oh, c’mon, don’t let that bitch get you down.”
“She’s my fiancé, not a bitch.” You didn’t sound entirely sure or convincing on your answer, and she rolled her eyes jokingly.
“You know I don’t like her.”
“You used to. You know, before me and her got together, you guys were friends.” You felt as though you ruined the small bond the two had, and you didn’t want to be the fault. While you found it hysterical whenever your best friend would make fun of your lover, you still didn’t want to be the cause of their damage.
“Yeah because you two together opened my eyes on how aggravating she is.” You hummed and twirled the engagement ring on your finger, your eyes seemingly getting lost in the pearls that adorned it.
“It’s not your fault, Y/N. Look, I’m sorry but if she can’t even show up to a few dates how is she going to show up to other important stuff? Like, I don’t know, birthdays, or something.”
“It was just a few dates though, it’s not like she missed our wedding.”
“It’s not just a date, it was something that was clearly important to you that you worked so hard on. She couldn’t even care enough about your date to remember it, what makes you think she’ll care about anything else?” You felt all your witty comebacks falling short as you had no response. She was right, Lizzie obviously didn’t care enough to show up now, who’s to say she ever will?
“Someone would have to be a complete idiot to stand up a pretty girl like you, and I don’t think those five years at college have been doing her any good apparently.” You grinned as she shrugged her shoulders, knowing herself that she was right.
“Well, now that the better person is here, why don’t we have some fun?” You failed to notice the dinging texts from your phone, and you failed to care. You fully engrossed your mind in the moment with Scarlett, because nothing brought you more joy than doing so.
‘youre hanging out with scarlett? wtf it was a date that’s it’
‘you know i dont like her Y/N’
‘fucking answer me already’
‘im on my way home, you better be there when i arrive’
‘why cant you just take sorry? i told you i was sorry is that not enough’
‘im nearby’
‘stop fucking ignoring me Y/N’
‘baby im sorry imma make it up to you just answer me please’
‘this shit is seriously starting to piss me off’
To anyone else, she would’ve seemed incredibly overbearing and possessive, but you never once saw her that way. She was anxious and worried to lose you, was all.
“You don’t use your phone anymore? If I’m the one paying for that shit then you can fucking answer my texts, Y/N.” Your eyes met hers as you placed your card down for the game the two of you had engaged in. It didn’t help you case how close you two looked as you sat opposite to hide your deck, your legs entangled and your bodies close enough to cause suspicion. You didn’t see it this way, and you assumed Scarlett hadn’t either, so you didn’t understand why Lizzie was so mad.
“Shit, I didn’t know you texted me, I’m sorry.” You quickly responded, but Scarlett was hot on your tails.
“Who the fuck do you think you’re talking to like that?” Lizzie clenched her jaw tightly as she removed her jacket in a quick manner, throwing it on the couch as she spoke.
“I’m talking to my fiancé, Scarlett, and I don’t think you have any place in this. So I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” But she didn’t budge, only crossing her arms over her chest as you watched a small dispute form between the two. It felt like your world was slowly caving in even deeper, and every piece of it was caused by Elizabeth. Scarlett was the one helping you repair her damage, but it didn’t help when you continued on with your relationship still.
“Please stop arguing. I’m sorry, okay? I tried making this house perfect for you and I prepared a nice dinner and a bath, I even wore my nicest dress for you when knowing the pieces cut into my shoulder blade. You didn’t show up and that’s not my fault, and I’m tired of waiting on you for everything. So can I please just have one night where I get to be with my friend and actually laugh and smile before I have to deal with this again? I’m tired of it, Lizzie, it’s so tiring going back and forth with you constantly and I need some time away from you right now.” Their words came to a halt, and they both turned to face you. Your fiancé stared at you with a hint of sadness covered by disbelief, while Scarlett gave you a sorrowful look.
“Seriously? You’re this pissed over one date? We can reschedule or something, I was busy at work because some of us actually have jobs and have to make their own money for a living.”
“It’s not just a date, Liz. You put work before me now and everything has changed. Just because I’m not the one paying for it doesn’t mean I’m not the one putting food on the table, I do just as much as you by taking care of this place.” Your best friend stood closer to you now, rubbing your shoulders soothingly as she took your hand and walked you away. Lizzie followed after you two with complaints, but Scarlett closed the door to your bedroom before she could enter. The lock was turned, and while you felt horrible for not letting your partner into her own room, you knew you didn’t want to see her right now.
“Alright, beautiful, I’ll deal with her and you stay here and try and get some rest for me, yeah?” You nodded and stared at your fingers that tapped against your leg nervously.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make this a big deal.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong, the woman outside that door is the one who did. This will never be your fault, and if she tries to make that seem true you let me know right away.” You were lucky to have the blonde help you so much, and you just wished Liz was able to do the same as her. But they could never compete, Scarlett would always win the way to your heart in the end and deep down your lover knew that, which is why she was so mad you chose her instead of waiting. But she also knew you deserved better than her, and she knew she couldn’t give you the same love you deserved. But she would never be willing to let you go, whether she knew it was wrong or not, you would always be her girl.

Hot and humid breath danced across your skin as his lips traced along the column of your neck, leaving trails of goosebumps in its wake. The heat from his body radiated off of him and enveloped you with nothing but his scent lacing with the sweetness of the wine–fresh, sweet, and warm just like the month of July.
His large palm grasped at your soft mound, squeezing gently at first before he let it trailed off along your waist then down and around the swell of your ass. Steve’s hand lingered there for a long moment before he gave you a big squeeze.
You melted into his touches–completely surrendering yourself to him. After all, it was his birthday, and you did promise him that he could use you however he wanted.
A surprised yelp slipped past your lips as he lifted you briefly and pressed your body against the wall. You hissed at the duality between the warmness of his hard body and the cold wall.
His hardness pressed against your aching pussy as it throbbed at the emptiness, wishing he would fill you up with that thick cock of his. Every part of you was so hyper-aware of him, it was almost painful.
Another shuddering moan left your lips when you felt his teeth graze gently along your jawline. Sweet nothing muttered under his breath like an incantation, lulling you further into this haze. Your arms snaked around his neck as if you were holding on to the last sanity he left you with as he began to grind his bulge right into your needy pussy.
Your soft whimper filled the room as the grinding continued. You wished he would give you more–anything, even if it was just the tip of his finger.
But you were at the mercy of his will when you said the words out loud the morning of his birthday.
Use me. Let me be your toy tonight.
Normally Steve would have blushed and flustered, but after all the teasing you have been doing to him for the past couple of days, he was more than ready to retaliate.
“Need you,” you managed to whimper out loud as he was sucking on your pulse point. “Please…”
Steve didn’t answer. Instead, his mouth trailed down to wrap around your stiff nipple, tugging gently at it until you whined in protest. His cheeks hollowed to create suction around your sensitive mound, sucking so loudly that it was the only sound that filled your ears.
Thoughts of the others walking in on both of you didn’t really cross your mind until now. What would Bucky and Sam think of you in this state of undress with lipstick smeared across your lips and being used by Steve like this?
“You’re thinking too hard again, sweetheart,” Steve murmured. “Thought you’re supposed to be my fuck toy. Fuck toy don’t think, remember?”
Under normal circumstances, you would have said something back to him, but it was his birthday, and you did give him permission to do whatever he wants. Plus, hearing Steve say those filthy words out loud just makes your pussy throb even harder for him. He had always been Mr. Perfect–so prim and proper, rarely cussed. Oh but now, you got him so worked up and so needy, that you got to see another side of Steve.
“Stevie, please…,” you pleaded as you ground your pussy against him, but he suddenly pushed you back and held you there as he stared at you with dark pupils blown wide, drowning out those baby blues.
“Why don’t you be a good girl and get on that table for me?”
You hastily climbed up the table and laid there, thighs spread apart so that Steve could get a clear view of your drenching pussy.
“Baby girl, you’re so wet for me…” he said under his breath. His cheeks flushed deep red as he stalked toward you with big strides.
You could clearly see the impressive tent of his bulge pressing against the pants, almost to the point where the button was about to pop out.
Steve noticed that you were staring, and he made it a show as he began to unbutton his shirt carelessly, popping off the buttons as they scattered across the floor. Your breath hitched in your throat as you watched the way his stiff muscles glistened under the light.
You eyed the dark blond hair that dusted along the hard ridges of his abdomen and swallowed as it disappeared under his waistband. Every molecule in your body practically screamed for him, yet Steve took his time climbing up the dining table.
Your breath hitched in your throat as he knelt astride your body. You watched him carefully as he began to undo his pants. You found yourself licking your lips when he took out his cock and started to stroke it mindlessly. He was already long and hard, and you just knew he was going to fuck your brain out.
Without a thought, you reached out to him, wanting to stroke him as well, but Steve suddenly pinned you down. His breath fanned across your face as he stared down at you.
“Since you want to be used by me so much, why don’t you be a good girl and open your mouth for me? Let me see how good of a fuck toy you are for me, baby girl.”
Steve moved to knelt astride your head, his hand pumped along his shaft lazily as he waited for you to open up.
Without a word of protest, you opened your mouth for him, and Steve took his time, probing the fat pink tip of his cock against your lips, teasing and smirking as you struggled to wrap your lips around him. Not a second too long, he caved in and began to push the head inside your mouth, watching you slowly swallow him inch by inch until you couldn’t anymore.
He let out a strangled moan as you began to suck on him. His eyes rolled to the back of his skull at the sensation. Steve muttered something incoherently as the desirous fire burst through his body and straight through his balls.
“Such a good fuck toy you are, sweetie…just look at the way you’re sucking my cock makes me wanna come already…,” he said as he continues to roll his hips, fucking your mouth as you lay there.
You couldn’t answer him except for the soft moaning against his dick in your mouth, and Steve felt like he was about to come then and there. Every part of him was straining from the effort of holding it in alone.
You gagged and choked several times when Steve fucked into your mouth too deep. He was nice enough to pull back and let you catch your breath while he examined his work, watching you turn into an incoherent mess under him. Oh what a sight, he mused as he watched the way your eyes were tearing up and the way your makeup got ruined by him.
“Look at you so eager to suck my cock…You want to be fucked hard, don’t you sweetie?”
You nodded eagerly, wiping your face as you sat up and hiking your dress even further up.
“Please, Stevie….I need you so bad,” you whined. “I’ve been so good for you, so please…?”
“Please what?” he smirked, his fingers trained down to your drenching pussy, stroking at the slippery seam. He would occasionally press the tip of his fingers against your folds and pushed them in just enough to make you whine, but not enough to draw out any pleasure. He was a tease, alright.
“Please fuck me,” you pleaded, rolling your hips to meet his fingers.
Steve pretended to think for a long moment as he knelt there, teasing you to the point where your body was trembling under him.
“Hmmm, but it’s up to me to decide though, right?” he eyed you as he pushed a single finger inside you. Your body tensed instantly as you locked eyes with him. “I can certainly fuck you with just this, and you can’t do a thing about it, right?”
You nodded as you relished the way his finger felt inside you, but you both knew it wasn’t enough, especially when you had a taste of his cock before.
“Please, Stevie…I’ll be a good girl,” you pleaded again as you rocked against his fingers. “Please…need your cock so badly.”
Steve didn’t say anything, but he continued to tease you, fucking you with just his finger until he was bored enough to add another finger in.
“God, I love it when you beg for me so prettily,” he murmured. “I supposed I’ll be nice and let you have it since you were so eager to suck my dick.”
Steve moved to stand at the end of the table, and he quickly discarded his pants and boxers. With a swift movement, you found yourself being grabbed by the ankles and being pulled toward him until your ass was hanging off the wooden table.
He draped your legs over his broad shoulders and probed the head of his cock against your folds before slowly pushing himself in. A deep, guttural moan seemed to emit from his chest as he sheathed himself all the way inside you.
Noises seemed to leave you when he began to move–slowly at first as if he was testing the way, and surely Steve began to set the pace, fast and brutal to the point where the noise of your body collided with the house. It was loud and wet, and oh so good. Every time he pushed a little too hard, you felt like you were being torn apart and put back together again simultaneously.
He was fast and brutal, and you didn’t care. You enable him to be this way. You wanted tongue and teeth, and Steve delivered just that.
It was too overwhelming. No other thought filled your head except for the way his cock was practically tearing you into pieces, and you loved every second of it. Every time he felt your wall flutter around him, Steve would cease his movement and watch you look up at him with teary eyes. He knew he was being mean but not letting you come, but he was holding the reign here, and you were at his mercy at this point.
He knew he was close as well by the way his balls would tighten up. Every movement was bringing him closer to the edge. When he knew he couldn’t hold it in anymore, he reached down to where you and he joined and began to rub your clit while he was moving in and out of. Your body instantaneously reacted to him. Before you knew it, you came with a soft cry while  Steve plunged into you with a brutal pace.
He didn’t stop until he came hard inside you. He was gritting his teeth as he stood there, filling you up until he was dripping out onto the floor. Your body felt heavy and boneless. All you could do was stare at Steve with bleary eyes.
Not a moment too long, his lips found you with a gentle kiss that you could swear makes your toes curl if you weren’t too worn out already. Both of your bodies were slicked with sweat. His blond hair stuck to his forehead. His face flushed, and his breathing was heavy.
“You ok?” He asked, blue eyes filled with concern as he eyed the aftermath. “I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
You shook your head and sat up, wrapping your legs around his taut waist. “No. It was perfect,” you told him before placing a long kiss on his lips.
“Good because it’s not midnight yet, and I want to make sure I make good use of your gift,” he said before carrying you off the table with little effort. “I hope you’re ready for another round, Mrs. Rogers,” He smirked before carrying off into your bedroom.

note(s) hiiiiii :3 im so happy you like my blog!! i hope you enjoy this little but of fluff | i didnt know how to end it so it might seem a little abrupt
"Norm?"
Your voice bounces off the concrete walls and back into your ears. Your heels click with every step, your shoes are nice and shiny for the occasion. He wasn't home, at Chet's, or in the fusion room. A long shared hiding spot. You frown as you turn down yet another hallway. A sea of copy-pasted doors muddle together in your eyes as you huff. Maintaining your peppy smile you grip the bouquet tighter. When you noticed Lucy, but no Norm to accompany her you had to pause everything. A much disagreed decision which led to Overseer MacLain chastising you for your decision. It wasn't a good idea to make Vault 31 wait but you couldn't care less.
"Norman."
Your voice grows in pitch as you backtrack out of the hallway and into an identical one. One furthest from your wedding and who do you find sitting with his back to you? Cleaning the connection line of the vault floor.
"Oh! Norm, there you are."
He doesn't turn back and simply gives you a quick hand raise and a simple, "Busy. Be done soon."
You give a soft giggle and crouch down behind him.
"Norman MacLean. It's rude to ignore the person being married. Especially on their wedding day."
He finally turns at that. Almost as if he just realized who was talking to him. Your smile is unrelenting a stark contrast to the stony expression he gives you in return.
"Well, are you coming?"
You stand and extend your hand only to frown when he simply glances at your palm.
"What's wrong?"
You start to worry as he takes his time replying. You never felt this before, the feeling of your stomach becoming a giant knot. Like all your intestines became worms and got themselves tangled in each other. You did not like this feeling.
"You're making my stomach hurt, Norm. What's going on? You said you would be there when I met my partner."
"I got assigned cleaning duty."
You scoff and roll your eyes, a smile gracing your lips again as if you solved one of the riddles in the vault newspaper.
"It's my wedding day. I'm sure Hank would understand. You're my best friend after all, he would want you to be there with me."
Hands on your hips you can't help but notice as your cheeks start to sting with all this frowning and smiling.
"Best friend. Yeah, okay."
He repeated you again.
"Norman, what's going on? Are you sick?"
Bending over at the waist you place the cool back of your hand to his warm forehead and chew on your bottom lip. He feels fine. So why is he acting like this?
"I'm fine. It's nothing."
He swats your hand away. Using his hands he pushes himself to stand.
"Let's just go."
"No. Not until you tell me what's going on. Why you're acting like this. You've never repeated me twice. You only do that when you're upset. Three times and I would have to call security."
You try to give him a smile and laugh, but he just pushes past you. Hurrying you catch up to him as he goes to turn the corner out of the hallway. Reaching out you're able to grab ahold of his suit before he makes it.
"I don't want you to get married."
His words are rushed and he refuses to look at you. You give a small laugh hoping he was joking. You didn't go through all this... all this moving on just for him to confuse you.
"Norm, you said you were excited when I told you I was chosen."
"I lied."
I lied echoes throughout the corridor. Your grip tightens on his suit as you soak in his words.
"You told me-."
"I lied. About everything. It wasn't just practicing for me. None of it was practice. You need this, I know. Now you know so you can move on. What are you hoping they look like?"
He gives you a false smile and it looks out of place especially with you mimicking his stony expression from before. Dropping your hand you furrow your eyebrows and slam the palm of your hand into his chest.
"You... jerk! All this time I thought you wanted to be just friends. Thought you regretted everything. Fudge, Norm. Why didn't you tell me? I would have never gone to the council and convinced them to let me get married."
He gives you a genuine smile and you want to hit him again. Maybe yell at him some more until he's cupping your cheeks. His eyes are intense as they stare into yours.
"I know how important fulfilling your job is, I would never ruin that for you. I thought it would be easier if I didn't show up."
"That's stupid. You're more important to me than any job. I would be just as fulfilled and happy scrubbing floors."
His eyes search yours. His fingertips press into the soft flesh of your cheeks. You can tell he wants to lean in closer. Do as you always did ever since you were children. You don't give him the chance to back away. Not again. Leaning forward you rest your forehead against his, nose smushes against each other making it difficult to breathe. As if you could breathe clearly given the circumstances.
He takes the initiative this time and closes the minuscule gap between your lips. Years as the Overseers son gave him access to anything he ever wanted and you can tell he uses it to take care of himself.
"Strawberry?"
"They figured out how to make this stick that makes your lips soft and they gave me one to try."
You giggle and kiss his soft sweet lips again and again. Breaking away to smack your lips covered in the foreign flavor. After a good thirty minutes, you hear your name being called from a dot down the hallway.
"Lucy." You whisper as your heart starts to rise and you fear you might throw it up.
Taking your hand he squeezes it tightly before letting it fall beside the fabric of your wedding gear.
"I don't want to get married anymore, Norm. What do I do?"
"We explain to Lucy and see what she has to say. She's the older sister for a reason."

Part 2
Tumblr media
It's been too long since you've seen Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw and the thought of his reaction terrified you. Not knowing how he would feel about you returning to Fightertown. Once you got the letter asking you to return you knew without a doubt Bradley would be there. The two of you didn't end things well the last time you saw each other.
Telling him how you felt and his response was not at all what you thought. He suddenly became angry and upset with you. Slamming the door on the way out as you fell on the couch crying your eyes out. Everyone was worried about you after that, but nobody dared to bring his name up to you.
You've known Bradley since you guys were children. After all you were the daughter of Tom Kazansky aka 'Iceman'. Taking after him and becoming top of your class in Top Gun. Earning the call sign of 'Frostbite'. Also, becoming the only female pilot to have three confirmed air to air strike kills. Your father was a legend amongst pilots and you were becoming one now too.
After you and Bradley graduated it seemed like you two became a lot closer. Everyone could see it except for the two of you, until one day Bradley got upset you went on a date with some other guy. Seeing that side of him had you wanting him closer, and into your arms.
It confused you beyond all doubt since you two were just friends, but then it made you realize your true feelings for him. That's when you decided to confess how you felt about him, after a bottle of wine of course.
Now here you were sitting at the bar of the Hard Deck constantly looking back to seeing when he would come in. Sipping on your beer as you nervously looked around at all different kinds of colors laughing and playing pool or shooting darts.
Wondering if these were the pilots you would be training for this mission. Turning down their offer of leading this mission ever since the accident, and settling for being an instructor instead. Your father was not happy about your choice but understood why you did it. Not wanting to lead another mission where someone else dies.
"You okay hon?" Pennys sweet voice asked when she noticed you staring off into space.
"Oh yeah I'm just thinking." Snapping out of it to look at her. "Obviously too hard huh?"
"He's going to be glad to see you." She knew exactly what and who you were thinking about.
"Yeah right he'll walk through that door and see me and walk right out." Groaning at the image and feeling yourself become saddened at the thought.
"No he won't I bet you he'll see you and have that big smile on his face and give you a big Rooster hug." She smiled at you with reassurance making your lips quirk up. "He cares about you."
"Not enough to reach out to me." Shaking your head as you finished the rest of your drink.
"You could have done the same for him." Raising her eyebrows at you with that look of 'it works both ways'. "You two just need to talk."
Not saying anything you just looked at her watching as she went to go help other patrons. Trying to repeat her words in your head that he missed you just as much as you missed him. Although it would be hard for him to forget you confessing your feelings to him. You just don't let something like that be forgotten.
In the deep part of your mind you couldn't help but think he still was upset and would want nothing to do with you. Then the two of you would have to work on this mission ignoring each other, and acting like enemies.
"Y/N?" Instantly recognizing that voice making you turn around and break from your thoughts.
"Uncle Maverick." Exclaiming as you hopped off the stool to give him a hug. "It's so good to see you."
You've known Pete Mitchell ever since you were little, and he was also your Godfather. He was like family to you and whenever you couldn't go to your father you would go to him. He was proud of you when you graduated from Top Gun, reminded him of being with your father.
Of course you knew of the feud between him and Bradley, but you didn't actually know what it was about. All you know is Maverick did something so badly that he wanted nothing to do with him. Then one day Bradley called you screaming if you knew something about his papers being pulled which of course you didn't, but he didn't believe you and continued to yell at you.
It seems like Bradley will have not only one person he can't stand here.
"It's good to see you too." Pulling back so he could sit next to you waving at Penny a blush on her cheek. "How are you?"
"I'm good I'm good." Nodding your head as you looked at your hands on the bar top. It was a lie. "How about you?"
"Well I can't complain." He gave you a nudge making you playfully roll your eyes with a smile. "I'm assuming you got a letter as well."
"Yeah I did and I was asked to be the lead in it." Once he heard that his eyes went wide a huge smile on his face like a proud father.
"Well shit congratulations I'm happy of you." Clapping a hand on your back your face remained stoic.
"I turned it down." Stating to him before he could get anything else out. "I told them I wouldn't lead this mission."
"Why would you do that?" He asked too quickly and saw the look on your face before nodding. "I get it."
Only a few people knew about the accident including Pete, since your father didn't want it to be a public thing which you were kind of thankful for. Seeing as it traumatized you, and never wanting to ever relive that moment again. Not that you were trying to sweep it under the rug you just didn't want someone reminding you of that day.
All of a sudden you heard a bell ringing and both you and Maverick looked up in confusion. Penny standing there with a huge grin on her face as everyone whooped and hollered in joy. She pointed to a sign that said 'disrespect a woman or a pilot or place your phone on the bar top and you pay for a round'.
Looking down you saw Pete's phone on the bar top making your bend your head back in laughter. He just chuckled with a shake of his head as Penny was then bombarded with men and women at the bar.
"Way to go Uncle Mav." Patting him on the back as you continued to laugh. "I'll have another one Penny."
Handing you a bottle you saw a blonde haired man with thick arms in a khaki uniform that you very much recognized walk you up to the bar. His eyes looking at Pete and then shifted over to you a small smirk on his face.
"Four beers Penny please." Looking over to Pete briefly before grabbing his drinks handing them over.
"There ya go." Giving her wonderful smile the mans gaze still lingering on you.
"Thanks hon." He then looked back to Pete. "Thanks for the drinks pops." Giving a wink before he turned around walking back to the other pilots.
"I'll be right back." Hopping off the stool as you headed to the restroom glancing over at the blonde man to see his eyes on you.
The other three guys he was with all looked over to what he was looking at. You hated when people stared at you like that even if they didn't know who you were. Just wanting to keep your last name from being revealed to anybody for as long as possible.
Looking away you went into the bathroom stepping in front of the mirror placing your hands on either side of the sink. Staring at yourself asking yourself if you could really do this.
Could you handle the pressure of this mission? Could you handle being around someone that you love who doesn't feel the same? Starting to doubt yourself even more now, but reminding yourself of Penny's words.
Splashing cold water on your neck you gathered yourself quickly before heading out the door. Glancing around you noticed that name blonde haired man now standing in front of you. His eyes glanced you up and down taking in your torn jeans and white tank top.
"Hi there darlin." He said twirling a toothpick between his white teeth. "What's your name?"
Ah he clearly didn't recognize you and had no idea who you are then. Maybe you could have some fun with this.
"My names Y/N." His hand lifted up to grab yours in a shake you didn't bother to give him your last name since it would give away too much.
"The names Jake Seresin." Stating with such pride it almost made you roll your eyes. "Call sign Hangman."
"Hangman?" Repeating with a confused look on your face but he just smiled.
"You ever meet a pilot in person?" Shaking your head playing the stupid girl he probably thought you were.
"Well todays your lucky day sweetheart." He stepped closer to you this time. "I happen to be the best pilot there is."
This guy needed an ego check or something surprised his head hasn't exploded yet from thinking too highly of himself. Never the less you decided to go along with whatever game he was playing.
"Is that so?" Asking him crossing your arms over your chest his eyes glancing down briefly before smiling at you.
"Come join me and my fellow pilots." Placing his hand on your back leading you over to a group of khaki uniformed pilots playing pool.
"Guys this here is Y/N." He introduced you making everyone's eyes gaze over to you.
"Hi." Squeaking out like you were some shy little girl feeling utterly stupid.
"This is Coyote, Payback, Fanboy, Phoenix and Bob." Pointing to everyone each of them giving you a wave or smile.
These were probably all the pilots that you were going to help train on this mission. It absolutely terrified you how many lives you were potentially holding in your hands. A part of you feeling bad for not voicing who you actually were, but you didn't want the looks and questions who knew they would ask.
"Still bothering innocent women I see?" The girl Phoenix spoke up making everyone laugh.
"Couldn't help myself Phoenix." Pulling you closer to him making you a little bit uncomfortable. "She's a beautiful woman."
"Which doesn't make sense as to how you got her?" Fanboy joined in everyone nodding their heads in agreement.
"Yeah she doesn't know who you really are." Phoenix responded as she looked at you.
"Judging by the call sign I think I know everything I need to." Your voice ringing out making the others look at you with wide grins and laughter.
"Ouch darlin you hurt me." Placing a hand over his heart acting fake wounded.
"Besides I only go for real talented pilots." Your words had everyone's mouth wide open hollering.
Typically you were as tough as nails and always spoke your mind. In order to keep up this charade of being a normal person you kept your real personality down a few notches. Just wait until the next morning when they would see you, and you just couldn't wait for their reactions.
"I like her." Phoenix said and everyone nodded in agreement making you smile.
"Are you a pilot or?" Coyote asked once everyone quieted down.
Before you could respond your gaze wondered over to the front door watching as a couple people walked in. The person in front who you immediately recognized as Bradley. Wearing an old Hawaiian shirt with a white tank and faded blue jeans. A pair of aviators shielding you from his eyes.
He was a lot bigger the last time you saw him, and certainly looked better looking than the last time. Feeling yourself starting to drool as you looked him feeling like a creep for just staring at him. Thankfully he didn't even see you otherwise you would have been incredible embarrassed.
Something that was definitely different about him was the mustache he was rockin. He definitely didn't have that the last time you saw him, and you gotta admit he looked really good wearing it. He looked just like his dad which made you smile at the thought.
The butterflies in your stomach had you feel lightheaded and flustered. Your full attention was on him watching as he greeted a couple people before his gaze turned over to your group. Feeling your nerves get the better of you you tried shielding yourself from his view.
Not wanting to be seen as you saw him walking towards your group. He still hadn't seen you yet which you were thankful for. Maybe you could sneak away without being seen, and you could avoid the awkward conversation.
Shielding your face by Jake's side when he was literally just a few feet from you talking to the other pilots. Hearing his voice had your heart fluttering and you wanted nothing more than to say something and run into his arms.
"Bradshaw." Hangman greeted with a smirk making Bradley look over in your direction. "As I live in breathe."
"Hangman." He responded back with slight tone animosity making it known the two didn't exactly like each other. "You look... good."
"Oh I'm good I'm very good." His cocky tone was really starting to get to you feeling an arm wrap around your waist.
Quickly glancing your eyes over without moving your head watching him as he leaned against a pole placing his hands in front of him.
"Thought they wanted the best of the best." Bradley shot back at him making you smile into Jake's arm.
The pair just stared at each other like there was a silent war going on between them. The group looked between the two waiting for someone to speak first. Things were becoming too much for you and you just wanted to get out of there. Until you felt someone staring at you.
"Whose your victim tonight?" His words had your stomach drop feeling dread take over your body.
"This gorgeous girl is Y/N." Holding you to his side like you were some sort of prize. "She's never met a pilot in real life."
Keeping your face hidden hoping he wouldn't recognize you or act like he didn't know who you were. Glancing over you made immediate eye contact with him and you watched his lip twitch instantly recognizing you. His eyes looking to Hangman's arm around your waist making his hand ball into a fist.
You were still just as beautiful since he saw you last. Beating himself up for how he left things with you, and not telling you how he felt. Once he was told his papers were pulled he accused you of knowing and not saying anything to stop it to which he felt betrayed.
"Really?" He asked not taking his eyes off you his jaw clenching for multiple reasons.
"Figured if she were to meet a pilot it should be the best there is." He said cockily making your roll your eyes this time.
"But you aren't the best pilot." Bradley responded back making you and others chuckle. "She is."
Your eyes went wide not knowing who he was talking about maybe hoping he was talking about the other woman Phoenix instead. That wasn't the case though when you were completely unaware that he was pointing to you. Slowly moving your head to look at him his eyes solely on you.
He had this look on his face that would couldn't make out. Until you saw that look in his eye that told you he was about to blow your cover. Please Bradley don't you mouthed to him, and he just smirked.
"Yeah right and I'm Superman." Hangman joked not noticing how you were now frozen in place.
"God your such an idiot Hangman." At first you didn't know who he was talking to. "You clearly don't know who this is do you?"
Feeling everyone look over at you as you continued to stare at him shaking your head at him begging him not to tell. Judging by the look on his face you knew what he was about to do to you.
Your breathing was becoming very heavy and shallow. The air in your lungs was becoming restricted and you could feel your palms sweating waiting for him to spill the beans. The glancing from you to Bradley waiting in anticipation.
"What are you talking about?" Phoenix spoke up as Jake continued to stare at him a confused look on his face.
"Who is she?" Someone else said but you didn't know who.
"Your little date over there is a pilot herself." Jake snapped his head down to look at you an angry look on your face.
"Her names Y/N Kazansky daughter of Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky." Soon as they heard your last name some of them gasped or their eyes went wide in shock. "Call sign 'Frostbite."
"Holy shit." Hearing someone say as you now felt all eyes on you, but your focus was on the man with the mustache glaring at him feeling like steam was coming off your body.
"You two know each other then?" Bob asked really speaking for the first time that night.
"Unfortunately." His words had you wincing and your heart slowly breaking at how horribly he was treating you.
Once Bradley saw your reaction he felt bad but he couldn't take them back. A part of him wanted to walk up to you and hold you and tell you he was sorry he knew it wouldn't fix everything. Even though the group was going to find out eventually you wanted it to be on your terms, and not through Bradley who did it out of spite and possibly hatred.
Before anyone else could say anything you tore yourself away from the group, and practically zoomed out of there. Feeling a tear running down your cheek Penny watching with concern making Maverick turn around to look as well.
One things for sure that you know now. Bradley Bradshaw hates you.

“Oh, Lord Two? Um… At twenty to three.” Anya told you.
You cursed softly under your breath. It was half past two, so you teetered just on the edge of being late, considering how difficult it was to navigate the ridiculous labyrinth- like palace. You grabbed your best copy of your thesis, the typewritten one you’d paid an outrageous amount for in Fontaine, as well as your notes on your current research; elemental magic and the human body. It’s quite ambitious, the sage of your Darshan had told you, which roughly translated to ‘you’re completely insane if you have even an inkling of hope that this is a worthy investment of your resources.’
After carefully placing the stack of paper into the slim wooden casing Tighnari had made for you, you grabbed your room key and ushered Anya out while flipping through your notebook for the map you’d drawn. You locked your door before all but sprinting towards the spiral staircases, taking the steps two at a time. You were out of breath by the time you reached the landing, but the humiliating prospect of being late was enough incentive to maintain the brisk pace despite the searing stitch that grew in your side. (Cyno would roll his eyes and bracingly tell you that even a scholar needed regular exercise, and damn him for being right.) Several twists and turns and anxious glances at your pocket watch and notebook later, you arrived at the door with four minutes to spare. With a pleased huff, you rebalanced your glasses on your nose and ran your finger down the seam of the door and wall. The words flickered sky blue, and it eased open when you thought please. Telepathic magic at its finest.
you took care not to seem winded as you entered the laboratory. The Doctor had his back to you, focused on something out of your sight. You heard faint whimpering, and when you approached you were a little sickened to see a man strapped to the vivisection table. He was clearly drugged, eyes wide and pupils dilated, and the Doctor methodically pulled a long, red string from a tiny gash in his inner elbow. With a jolt of revulsion, you realised that the string was the man’s arteries. Archons above. You knew the Doctor was morally dubious at best, but surely he could’ve conducted such an experiment on a fresh corpse and yielded similar results. Bruises littered the man’s face, yet the rest of his body was perfectly intact, not a single broken bone though one of his eyes was swollen and his lip bled from a deep gash. Even the clothes he wore didn’t bear signs of extreme wear, not ragged or bloodstained. No more violence than necessary. You clenched your teeth. The subject must remain in a semi-controlled state to ensure validity of the experiment. His sleeve was tidily rolled up to his elbow, but the incision from which the Doctor withdrew the arteries gushed blood in a wavering rhythm; that of his heartbeat, which slowly but surely dwindled. The Doctor didn’t even look up from the forceps he was using to carefully draw out the blood vessels, inch by inch, when you approached him and the test subject. The man spotted you, and even in his delirious state he began to thrash and unintelligibly beg around the gag in his mouth. Distaste swelled in the back of your throat; he hadn’t even been granted the dignity of unconsciousness.  The restraints caused blisters and redness where they touched his skin, a sure indicator that he’d been strapped there for a few hours at least. You grimaced, but resolutely kept your eyes on him as the Doctor (ha. The Doctor) slowly, methodically, lovingly pulled out his lifeline. You didn’t deserve the comfort of looking away.
The experiment was familiar. The Akademiya sages, blasted hypocrites they were, had utilised it time and time again; the awful nature of the tests they conducted was a well-known and universally unacknowledged secret. So really, you didn’t even have the luxury of claiming yourself innocent or different from the Doctor. You’d known, just as well as any Akademiya student had known, that lives whittled away like wood chips at a carpenter’s workshop within the walls of the building you’d called home, and you’d done nothing to stop it. For science, you’d let yourselves think. For philosophy, for the good of humanity, for art, even! Looking at the Doctor now, his mask obscuring his expression but his jaw and mouth relaxed, his gloves and forceps stained red as he tugged away at this test subject’s- this person’s life with nothing more than a controlled flick of his wrist, you couldn’t even bring yourself to be adequately horrified. Which you suppose, in the very act of being accustomed to such gruesome displays, made you a monster too. To your dismay, the man wouldn’t even die. He gasped and wheezed and clawed at the table he was strapped to, and after counting to ten (no more than ten second’s suffering, Tighnari had taught you) you leaned across the table and cleanly snapped the man’s neck.
The Doctor’s pace never faltered until the red cord broke, a pile of it laying in a glass dish by his side and the other end indistinguishable in the red of the man’s wound. You stared at the body on the table, the broken neck. Yet another death on your hands. You were the one to break the silence this time.
“I suppose this is some form of a test, doctor.”
“You’re quite right,” he confirmed smoothly, turning away from the body on the table and discarding his gloves. You sighed, tightening your gloves and glancing at your watch. The whole thing had taken barely ten minutes. Ten minutes to wrench the blood vessels from a human body. Usually it took longer. Bile rose in your throat at the way your mind so readily supplied the information.
“Did I pass?”
He grinned at you over his shoulder as he washed the blood from his hands, staining the water.
“With flying colours.”
“Joy,” you deadpanned, tugging at the collar of your cloak. The presence of a fresh body cloyed the air, pressing at your airways. You could never get properly used to this part, the blaring absence of life where there previously had been one. The Doctor walked back over to the vivisection table, pulling his leather gloves on along the way. Well, technically it’s an autopsy table now.
“This pathetic excuse for a man was a traitor to the Tsaritsa,” he began, staring down at the body. For once, you were grateful the mask hid his eyes; what if you’d seen glee, contentment in them? “Let it be known that this is the fate awaiting all who follow the same path.”
“Duly noted, doctor.”
“I do hope so.” He turned his faceless gaze onto you. “I’d hate for my student to end up nothing more than a test subject.” And strangely enough, he would dislike the experience of having to perform such a procedure on you. The thought perplexed him; why would he care? Bizarre.
“I doubt you’d feel anything at all,” you countered, handing him the wooden case filled with your paperwork. You wished you’d been late, now. You wished you hadn’t been crowned valedictorian and piqued the Fatui’s interest. Perhaps then you could’ve left these malpractices behind as a chapter from your past. “Do enlighten me as to the purpose of this particular experiment, doctor. Other than observing my reactions to it.”
He ignored you in favour of reading your notes. Bastard, joke’s on you. You’re listening to me either way, whether directly or indirectly.
“Perhaps I should start calling you by a different title,” you remarked, more to yourself than him. “’Doctor’ isn’t very fitting after this display in human compassion.”
To your surprise, he answered, though without looking up from the papers you’d handed him.
“No. You will continue to address me in your usual manner.”
“As the doctor wishes,” you replied, making sure to inject a healthy dose of sarcasm into your voice as you took out the solutions you’d be using that day. As Nilou would've said, the show must go on.
A servant arrived some time later to wheel the body away, calm and unfazed. Clearly this was a routine occurrence, and you ruminated over the likelihood of being tied to the vivisection table yourself as you worked. By the time the thin, watery rays of light burned orange with the sunset and pierced through the relentless snowfall, you’d decided that it wasn’t a particularly pressing concern. If the Doctor had, for whatever reason, wanted to experiment on you specifically then the Fatui wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of recruiting you. They would’ve discreetly whisked you away instead. Hardly the most reassuring of conclusions to arrive at; regardless, as you measured out samples of the newly made elemental stabilisers you concluded that it could definitely be worse. After all, you had access to a marvellous lab and infinite time to pursue your research. And the Doctor was inarguably a genius, despite… Well, everything. You didn’t exchange any more pleasantries for the remainder of the day. Concocting the elemental stabilisers was a delicate process with disastrous consequences if your hand so much as slipped, and talking to the Doctor was mentally taxing enough without the threat of a possible electro explosion looming over your head. He read through every one of the papers you’d given him, and every now and then you hazarded a glance in his direction to try and determine his thoughts. A fruitless endeavour, as his expression (or at least what you could see of it) remained completely impassive as he sorted through the stack of notes. Still, having an academic higher-up evaluate your research was as nerve-racking as it had been in your first year, and you resented him for doing it in front of you. That was probably on purpose, too.
Once the stabilisers had been painstakingly measured out and stored away, you squinted at your watch to check the time through the remaining vapour after making the pyro-hydro stabiliser. The pearly face revealed that you’d been in the lab for four bloody hours, and your stomach pointedly seconded the fact by growling loudly enough that surely even the Knights of Favonius heard it. You noted the time you’d spent and the solutions you’d made into what you were coming to think of as your Fatui notebook, and after wiping your glasses clean of the spatters you made your way to the door.
“Take your documents with you if you’ve already finished.”
‘Already?’ Did four hours and twenty minutes of work not constitute anything? Damn him.
You pivoted on your heel and turned back to take your things from the Doctor’s desk.
“Anything else, Doctor?” you asked, rearranging the paperwork back into the order you’d had it in.
He settled on a response that he knew would get on your nerves, so that he could derive the thrill of watching you reign in your anger. “Fetch me a pot of tea,” he replied idly, his focus on the last piece of your paperwork.
“With respect, doctor, I am not a maid,” you said pointedly. Irritating as it was, you had to hover on the other side of his desk and wait for him to finish reading. Why would he tell me to take my things if he hadn’t even read them all yet? You were beginning to suspect that every one of his actions was specifically tailored to invoke annoyance, though how he so effectively pushed your buttons was beyond you.
He looked up from your report on the effects of prolonged elemental exposure on ancient mechanisms. It was one of your best, and if he attempted to criticise it you had at least sixty different explanations on why your method was the most effective. Defensive much? Alhaitham’s voice mocked.
“Are you refusing to accommodate your superior’s requests?” He replied, a contented smile spreading across his face. You took a deep breath and rationalised that punching said face wasn’t a suitable course of action, no matter how alluring it was. He didn’t even have the grace to hide the fact that he enjoyed prodding at your composure. Didn’t he already have tea anyway?
“Not at all. I'm merely bringing the inconsistencies of your requests to light,” you explained as civilly as possible. “The assistance required of me pertains to academic matters, and you don’t see how this includes fetching tea.”
“Then join me for tea instead.”
Your eyebrows must have reached your hairline. “I beg your pardon?” Every expression suited you, it seemed; each new reaction was something truly worthy of documentation.
“You heard me.” The Doctor’s vexing smile hadn’t slipped an inch. He leaned forward across the desk. “Take a seat. Or do you intend to display further insubordination?”
You tamped down the urge to snap and lowered yourself into the chair across from him. The report he’d been reading lay forgotten on his desk, and your eyes paused on the sheet of paper beside it. The writing on it wasn’t yours, and you realised with a touch of trepidation that he’d been jotting notes about your work, and although every one of your published reports had been approved after prolonged evaluation by the Akademiya you still had to swallow the lump of apprehension in your throat. He really did embody the air of a professor ridiculously well, with his ceaseless arrogance and lofty attitude, and it brought back too many memories of being a nervous rookie for your liking. A servant brought in a tray laden with a teapot, two cups and a plate of cake. Just when did he call for that? The Doctor poured out the tea, still smiling and being much too cordial not to rouse suspicion; as such, when he offered you a cup your first thought was poison. You stared at the tea then back up at him, frowning slightly.
“What’s the real purpose of this little exercise, doctor?”
He had the sheer nerve to chuckle and lean back in his chair, relaxed and unhurried, as if you were so terribly silly for having your guard up.
“Do you need a reason to have tea with my student?”
You levelled him with a long, pointed look; the kind you used to give to the younger students you’d tutored every now and then. It wasn’t quite as effective on him, but he did drop the mocking smile with a sigh.
“Drink the tea,” he said bluntly, leaning forward with his elbows on the desk as if to analyse you more closely. “That’s an order.”
You snorted. “Well, doctor, you’ve just given me a marvellous incentive to not drink this tea at any cost.”
A muscle twitched in his cheek, but his lips remained in a straight, neutral line. You wondered what expression his mask concealed. (Annoyance would be the answer. He’d expected you to fall headfirst into his little trap; perhaps he’d underestimated you.)
“I am not patient enough to allow for your defiance. Drink the tea.”
You pursed your lips to hold back a grin. The Doctor had given you the upper hand by issuing an order you could refuse, and even though he probably did it willingly it still gave you no small satisfaction. Besides, your curiosity was piqued. What could possibly be in this tea that he so desperately wanted you to drink?
“Perhaps I’ll be more willing to acquiesce to your demand if you tell me precisely what’s in it.”
He released a long-suffering sigh, dropping the friendly act altogether, and leaned back in his chair. He tugged thoughtfully at his leather gloves, and it struck you as humorous that you shared such a similar tick.
“A truth serum.”
You raised your eyebrows. “And is that all?”
“I doubt you’d believe me even if I said yes.”
You laughed despite yourself. What a pleasant noise. Winning an interaction with the immovable Doctor so early into your studies was quite amusing, not to mention a massive ego boost.
“You’re quite right,” you conceded, relaxing in your seat and surveying him thoughtfully. “I'm grateful that you didn’t take a different route and simply inject it directly into my bloodstream when the chance presented itself.”
“You should be,” he replied, brusque and perhaps even irritated. Clearly he didn’t share your amusement. “It’s a mistake I won’t repeat.”
“The Fatui are so terribly fond of their blatant threats,” you mused, pulling your watch out of its inner pocket to check the time. “Wouldn’t it be more productive to ask your questions and see what I try to lie about? I'm sure you’re adept enough at reading body language to identify the truth.” At this point you were just gloating, trying to string him along. A fatal flaw you readily acknowledged in your personality; you savoured victories with a little too much enjoyment.
The muscle in his cheek twitched again, and you couldn’t help but feel quite pleased with yourself for getting on his nerves to the point where you could identify the tell-tale signs. The logical side of your brain thankfully decided to return to the situation at hand rather than calculating how long it would take for you to make significant progress in your research (two weeks maximum, if you were clever about your time), and you regained enough clarity to recognise that what you was doing was incredibly stupid. Riling up a Harbinger; Archons, where did your self-preservation go when your pride took the wheel?
You shoved the smug grin off your face and fastidiously schooled your features back to neutrality, slipping behind a façade of polite detachment. The Doctor, by contrast, smiled and tilted his head to the side as you forcibly removed the emotion from your face.
“Fascinating,” you heard him whisper, and for the sake of your own sanity you pretended you hadn’t. He fixed you with a stare that you could acutely feel even through his mask, and you stared right back. Two mad scientists.
You brushed the thought away; even if you did go insane you doubted you’d ever reach the Doctor’s level.
“You may leave. I expect you to be here at seven o’clock every morning.”
“Understood, doctor.”
He gestured at the door with an elegant wave of his hand, picking up the report he still hadn’t returned. You shot one last fleeting look at his writing on the separate sheet of paper before leaving the laboratory.
And bumping straight into Childe.
It took a few muffled curses and a thank you to every higher power you could think of that your glasses remained intact for you to regain your bearings, and the first thing you did once the corridor stopped spinning was shoot Childe a glare, though it was somewhat half-hearted.
“You’re incredibly lucky that my glasses didn’t break.”
He just laughed and even had the sheer nerve to ruffle your hair. You were so shocked by the gesture that for a moment you didn’t move to stop him, but once your brain had caught up with the situation you batted his hands away.
“And what would you have done if I did break your glasses, Trixy?” He challenged, following you down the spiral staircase with that ever-present grin. “Defeated me in a duel?”
Archons alive, he’s teasing me.
“No, no,” you replied sweetly. “I’d just slip some very potent toxin into your food.” Two can play at that game.
That elicited another delighted laugh.
“Stick to the battleground you’re familiar with, eh?”
“Naturally.”
You turned to enter the hallway where your room was, but he grabbed your cloak and tugged you in the opposite direction despite your protests.
“Oh, what are you doing-“
“You missed lunch,” he cut you off, practically dragging you out into the courtyard. It looked much more welcoming than it had when you’d arrived, with the hazy glow from the sunset glinting off the snow and the nearby sound of a chirping bird carrying through the chill air. You even glimpsed tiny blue flowers peeking through the layer of white. You relented, letting him pull you along without resisting.
“Oh, yes,” you agreed absent-mindedly, watching a fox with fur white as the snow disappeared into a burrow at the base of a pine tree. Someone within the palace probably fed it regularly, considering how it made no effort to hide itself.
“Is Dottore already overworking you?” He asked with a touch of humour, linking his arm in yours as he led you through the cobbled pathways. For some reason, you allowed it.
“He tried to poison me,” you offered, lengthening your stride to keep pace with him.
“That does sound like him,” he agreed with a snort as he dragged you into a pavilion adorned with glittering golden lights, which were naturally of the floating, magical variety because Archons forbid the Fatui do anything without being ridiculously extra. Still, watching the gusts of snowflakes through a golden frame wasn’t such a terrible experience, even if it didn’t offer any shelter from the biting cold and you had to properly fasten your cloak to keep it out. Childe evidently didn’t see the point in such frivolities, considering he wore nothing but that grey suit and the amused way he watched you adjust your gloves.
“You won’t miss lunch tomorrow, will you?”
You idly wondered why he was so fixated on that.
“Do the recruits and Harbingers even dine in the same place?”
“Don’t dodge the question,” he said mock-sternly. You chuckled.
“In the very act of issuing that instruction you also dodged my question.”
He dismissed the technicality with a flippant wave of his arm, leaning against the railing of the pavilion.
“Quit shoving your intellect in my face with those fancy words,” he said, his grin taking on a playful tilt.
“Only if you stop calling me by that childish nickname.”
He guffawed. “’Childish.’ Good one.”
You groaned, raking a hand down your face at the dreadful joke. Truly Cyno levels of unfunny, though you suppose you did set yourself up for it. He nudged you in the ribs with his elbow before you could swat him away.
“You scholars are so uptight,” he teased. “If you can learn all that complicated science jargon then you can also learn to take a joke.”
“I can take a joke perfectly fine. I'm tolerating your presence right now, aren’t I?”
He let out a sigh, throwing an arm around your shoulders and ruffling your hair with his fist. You immediately tried to shove him away with an indignant yelp, but you might as well have been a harmless ladybird as far as he was concerned. “You have no respect for my position as a Harbinger, Trixy,” he told you in a jokingly strict tone of voice.
“You’ve done nothing to earn it,” you countered, wriggling out of his grip and running a hand through your hair in an attempt to rectify the havoc he’d no doubt wreaked.
“Will I earn it if I defeat you in combat?”
“Why, of course,” you replied with as much sarcasm as you could muster. You’d been reliably informed of its sheer magnitude. “Considering my untouchable physical prowess and how magnanimous a defeat it would be if you somehow succeeded.”
He laughed good-naturedly. “I’ll have to challenge you to a duel, then. Can’t have my ego taking such a beating, can I?”
“Oh, Archons forbid. Anything but your ego.”
The snow picked up, and you rushed back to the palace before it could pose a difficulty to finding your way back. Looks like a blizzard. Childe pushed the enormous front door shut and a few snowflakes fluttered inside only to melt the moment they touched the floor.
“Dinner should be ready in half an hour,” he told you as you approached the door to your room. Your stomach eagerly took this as a cue to growl.
“Three meals a day? We’re truly living in the lap of luxury.”
“So I’ll see you then?” Completely immune to sarcasm, as you were coming to learn.
“Alright.” you resolved to ask Anya to show you where the dining hall was so you could finish a quick lab report before eating.
He turned a corner and left the hallway, whistling cheerfully as he went.
The dining hall, as you came to learn in the coming days, was incredibly far away from your room. No hastily-sketched map would suffice to navigate the maze of corridors and ridiculous number of stairs, and you realised early on you’d most likely have to bring food back with you so you wouldn’t be obligated to make such a long trip every day. You were pondering the intricacies of what food would keep better and what options might be available when Anya gestured towards the dining room and then left. Embarrassing as it was, you still couldn’t find your way through the palace without guidance. The dining hall was massive and utterly packed with people as always. And unnecessarily lavish, but this particular aspect you were growing accustomed to the longer you stayed in the palace, though you still thought the crystal chandelier was a bit too much.
There weren’t many tables close to the windows because you was a little late to dinner that day, but you were nothing if not determined to maintain your own contentment, so you approached a table that was empty save for a young woman in purple robes and a swarm of strange creatures fluttering around her.
“Is anyone sitting here?”
She didn’t even spare you a glance.
“No.”
Ah, a fellow non-conversationalist. You sat down and began eating, surveying the dining room’s occupants and the whirling blizzard outside. You toyed absent-mindedly with the idea of striking up a conversation with the woman; after all, in a place like Snezhnaya where allies were few and far between especially for an outsider, even a casual acquaintance in the workplace would be beneficial. But it would also open more chances for backstabbing, figurative or literal. Best leave her be. You noticed with an uncomfortable prickle that every last person in the room wore a mask, though they varied in style and intricacy; the recruits with their bronze talismans had simple grey and black leather covering their eyes while the few odd silver talisman or Vision holders donned beautiful, decorative pieces. Though not as elegant as Signora or the Doctor’s, you noted as you ate. You wonder why you weren't given one.
As if she’d read your mind, the woman across from you spoke.
“Where’s your mask?”
It sounded almost like a demand, as though she believed herself entitled to the information, though a glance at the charms hanging from her waist revealed she held a bronze talisman just like yours; your ranking was more or less equal. It struck you as odd that a mere recruit would assert such authority in conversation, and you pondered the buzzing purple-winged creatures around her as an excuse to think before replying.
“I didn’t receive one.”
The buzzing picked up as the creatures flitted back and forth through the pointed ears on the hood of her cape. She abandoned her food in favour of staring at you through the slits in her mask.
“What do you mean you didn’t receive one?”
“I mean exactly what I said. I arrived here less than a month ago and wasn’t given a mask.”
“Ridiculous,” she muttered under her breath. You refrained from rolling your eyes.
“Which Lord or Lady do you serve?”
“Why the interrogative tone?” you asked pleasantly, or as pleasantly as you could in your irritated state of mind.
“Answer the question.” Her plate forgotten, she was leaning forward across the table with her eyes trained on you, and you once more marvelled at her brazen attitude.
“Am I obligated to answer?” You asked after a moment’s thought.
“Yes-“ she cut herself off, clearing her throat and relaxing back in her chair. “No. I guess not.”
You raised your eyebrows and took a bite of food. The Snezhnayans really were fond of their fish.
“You’re not really a recruit, are you?”
“What exactly are you suggesting?”
Her snappish manner was more than enough of an answer.
“I’d wager a guess that you’re a higher-up undercover,” you replied, twirling your spoon contemplatively. “Your behaviour is far too authoritative for someone who’s supposedly at the bottom of the metaphorical food chain.”
The buzzing purple creatures vanished into thin air. That surprised you; the annoyance they’d invoked had been enough to convince you they were real. The woman’s gaze was palpable, and you made a valiant attempt to pretend you didn’t notice it.
“You’re right,” she said abruptly. You hummed in acknowledgement, refraining from asking her about her real identity. “But who are you?”
“Me?” you offered her a quick smile. “I'm a recruit, well and truly. Not a disguise to be found.”
“Yes, yes,” she conceded impatiently, rapping her knuckles on the table. “But you didn’t tell me what Harbinger you serve. Or your name.”
You swallowed the lump of apprehension in your throat; the alias you’d chosen to keep your real name secret still felt unfamiliar and blatantly dishonest on your tongue.
“I'm apprenticing under Lord Two,” you said, avoiding her second question entirely. “Where did the horrible buzzing things go?”
“They were illusions,” she replied dismissively, confirming your suspicions. “How did you obtain such a position?”
You fiddled with the clasp of your cloak. “Is it a particularly difficult endeavour?”
“Dottore has never taken on any subordinates.”
That caught you off guard, and you nearly overlooked the fact that she addressed him the same way Childe did. Could she possibly be a Harbinger too? But why would a Harbinger go undercover at their own base of operations?
“Really?”
“Yes. I'm still doubtful over whether or not you’re telling the truth.”
“And I'm curious as to why you care.”
She chuckled under her breath.
“Fair enough. Trade?” She suggested, tapping her fingers on the edge of the table. The soft tap noise stuck out more than the hubbub of the room, and you wondered if it was a trick similar to that of the illusionary purple things intended to keep your attention on the conversation.
“Alright. One question in exchange for another?”
“Deal.”
Meeting a kindred spirit was truly an unrivalled joy.
“How exactly did you manage to gain an apprenticeship with the Doctor?”
You hesitated. Sharing the details of your offer didn’t seem to be a very clever idea until you remembered the Doctor telling you that verbal agreements were legally binding in Snezhnaya. How bothersome.
“I was sent a letter from the Director offering me the position a week after graduating from the Akademiya.”
The woman made a contemplative noise and drummed a pattern on the table with her fingertips.
“What’s so special about you that the Director saw it fit to offer you a never before available position?” She asked bluntly. Well damn, girl. Hit right where it hurts.
You grinned. “One question was our agreement, yes?” Her face contorted into a scowl, and you had to admit her anger was indeed fearsome.
“My turn. Who are you?”
“I'm not going to tell you that.”
Huh? You cursed yourself for so readily believing she’d uphold her end of the agreement. Clearly you’d spent too much time in Liyue, where contracts were irrefutable law, and this morally questionable and easily twisted system still came as a shock.
“That’s… not fair in the slightest,” you remarked, pushing away your empty plate. “But at the very least it confirms you’re in a high enough position to disregard the rules without a second thought.”
A pleased smile graced her face, and you suddenly and very belatedly realised that she was beautiful in a sharp, morbid sort of way; like the edge of a well-polished knife or a brand new musket.
“Fairness doesn’t concern me. This isn’t Fontaine, after all.”
“Have you ever visited?” you asked, more out of polite curiosity than anything else. If she wouldn’t outright tell you her identity, then perhaps you could glean a clue from the exchange of pleasantries.
“Yes,” she replied shortly. Clearly she didn’t share your sentiment, though it was rather understandable; if she really was as high-ranking as you suspected then she could gather as much information about you as she wished without having to resort to seemingly empty conversation.
“Do you refuse to give me so much as a hint about your identity?” You pressed, resting your chin in your hand and watching her pensively.
“Yes. I refuse.”
With a disappointed sigh, you stacked your cutlery onto your empty plate and left them on the table like you’d seen the other recruits doing.
“Quite cruel of you to pique a scholar’s curiosity and leave it unfulfilled like that.”
A flash of her teeth in another smile.
“What can I say? I'm a cruel woman.”
“So I'm coming to realise.”
You left the table with a nod in her direction, puzzling away at the interaction and wondering who exactly she could be.

“Learn how to walk, stranger.”
Y/N was definitely annoyed after bumping into a random stranger in the streets of Milan, his day was going amazingly well; getting up to hang out with his friends, then getting lost in the streets of Milan, being absolutely lost for the whole day beforebumping into a brick wall, which also happened to be the stranger’s chest he just bumped into.
“I am so sorry, I really wasn’t seeing where I was going and I don’t know where I am-”
“You lost too?” Y/N cut off the stranger’s rant.
“Yeah” The stranger sheepishly replied.
“That make the two of us then.”
“Y/N”
“Nice to meet you, the stranger who clearly is not blind.” The stranger replied, holding out his hand.
Y/N shook the hand offered and let out a pained chuckle, taking a moment to look at the stranger in front of him, extremely tall, long hair, dark eyes and wearing a mask despite Covid not being there.
“You an idol or something?”
The guy seemed to tense up before replying, “Nah, just a college student.”
“What’s ur major?”
“Major?”
“The subject you are pursuing dumbass.”
“Oh, um, Music.”
“Cool, I am a physics major.”
“I could never.”
“You never know, you are pursuing your passion, I am not.”
“The life is yours, when you dream, it’s up to you to follow it. You can’t please everyone in this so called world.”
“Your inner musician is calming and gives good advice. What’s your name? I had a full fledged conversation with you despite knowing your name.”
“Your eyes are pretty.”
 “I wear lense, you idiot.”
“You just called me blind, a brick wall, a dumbass and an idiot in less than 5 mins of meeting.”
“And if we stay in touch, that’s just the starting.”
“What makes you say I would stay in touch with you?”
“You have been conversing with for the past 6 mins.” Y/N casually said, giving a side eye look to the guy before actually checking the time on his watch.
“Makes sense”
“I always do.”
“You have too much self confident.”
“Says the person who is afraid of showing his face.”
“Says the person who is studying a subject taken from a Apple falling.”
“You did not just- says the person who is studying tune which machines make.”
“Says the person who is on verge of performing law of gravity.”
Y/N just stood there, shocked at the audacity of the person in front of him.
“That was a good comeback. I will give it to you.”
“I have millions of people saying I have good comebacks.”
“You be a social bee bro.”
“I can be little shy sometimes.”
“I am super shy~ super shy~ but wait a minute till I make you mine~”
The stranger just stood there, watching the guy in front of him break into super shy without a reason.
“I am sorry, whenever I hear someone say they are shy, I can’t help but-” Y/N showed the hook step “ and break into this.”
“I get it, it’s addictive.”
“Wait, you are into Kpop?”
“Yeah, it’s nice music.”
“Damn.”
“I have met newjeans.”
Y/N mustered all his strength to hit the stranger on the bicep but instead hurted himself, letting out a moan of pain.
“Why are you so muscular ?”
“That’s what you get for hitting me.”
“You have met-”
“Newjeans”
“I am jealous.”
“Don’t be”
“I will be”
“Have it your way.”
“I have seen seventeen in a award show.”
“I have too.”
“Who is your bias?”
“Wonwoo.” The stranger replied, giving him the dead eyes.
“Mine too.”
“Your favourite song?”
“Shadow”
Y/N just started at the stranger, “Mine too.”
“You are copying me.”
“Excuse me, I just met you!”
“Well Y/N, you certainly seem to be stalking me.”
“Again, I just met you.”
“This could be act, for all I know you could be serial killer Y/N.”
“I was in Korea before this.”
“I belong to Korea.”
“You are here for the concert right?”
“Seventeen is in Milan, how can I not go to their concert?”
“You rich”
“Not much, just a few million dollars.”
Y/N proceeded to faint, die and reincarnate in his brain, trying to process how can a guy just casually drop the bomb that his a millionaire and say it’s not much money.
“Give me your address.”
The stranger eyed Y/N suspiciously, “Why…”
“To steal your money of course, since you don’t appreciate it.”
“I very much appreciate my money, thank you.”
“Lend me some then.
“I don’t even know you stranger.”
“You know my name, it’s Y/N, I am a physics major at Yonsei, my family has four members, my parents and my younger brother. I have two dogs. My favourite food is chicken sandwich with barbecue sauce with pickles and chips on side-”
“That’s too much information you are giving to me.”
“You still didn’t tell me your name.”
“Are you here with your friends?”
“Yeah, got separated from them while looking for the food stand, didn’t find the food or the people of them though.”
“I hope you win this war against the streets of Milan.”
“Haha funny”
“I get that.”
That minute of silence that followed allowed both of them to be aware of their surroundings. They were still standing on the corner of the streets, in the soft, warm glow of the setting sun, they had shared stories, laughter, and a connection that seemed to defy the busy world around them, that buzz of connection which could not be ignored.
They didn’t know each other’s background, yet they felt they have known each other for long. They didn’t know each other’s favourite colour, yet they would want it to be colour of each other’s eyes. They didn’t know each other’s movie yet they wanted it to be the first one they watch together. They didn’t know each other’s favourite food, yet they hoped it would be the one they make for each other.
“Your name. You always avoid the question.”
The stranger locked eyes with Y/N before replying that Y/N would not like he exposed himself.
“It’s not like you are my enemy, he is still in Korea, busy sucking up to his girlfriend.”
The stranger fiddled with his mask, thinking of the consequences, but mustering up the courage and removing it.
Y/N let out an audible gasp,
“You are-”
“Kim Mingyu, from seventeen.”
“It kind of makes sense now.”
“I hope it doesn’t change the way you see me.”
“Don’t worry, I still see you as a dumbass and idiot.”
“I have Wonwoo unlike you.”
“You can’t just use the bias card on me”
“Yet here you met your bias’s soulmate”
“Yet here I am arguing with a brick wall.”
“Yet here you are talking to a brick wall made in the gym by hard work.”
“Yet here you are talking to a brain who studies way more than you.”
“Yet here we are starting a summer that no one was ready for.”
“Yet here I am Mingyu, asking if you would like to be my company?”

What About Me? Ch. 6
WAHHHH TOOK WAY TOO LONG SORRYSORRYSORRY!!!!
The train cars began clicking forwards, the hydraulics pulling the hunk of metal up the first, the biggest, hill. You felt the familiar surge of anxiety, quickly gripping onto the lapbar. Just at the top of the hill, you glanced at Jax’s face. The typical grin stared back at you.
Then, the cart dropped. Metal roaring and wind rushing past your ears assaulted your senses, the anxiety quickly snapping into exhileration. You squeal in excitement, throwing your hands up. Briefly, you wondered why Jax wasn’t doing the same. On the next hill down, you had a rather sudden urge. Without thinking, you grabbed one of Jax’s hands, the one closest to you, nd lifted it into the air with your own.
You noticed his glance at you out of the corner of your eye, his face unreadable, but not bad. His fingers twitched, clasping your hand tighter than before. You cheered and screamed as the coaster whipped you around, and halfway through the ride Jax joined in the whooping and hollering.
All too soon, the ride was over. You were giggling, wiggling in your seat as the train pulled back into the launch pad. You glanced at Ja, who was still looking at you, “That was awesome! We should go again!”
“Sure thing, puddin’, re you gonna hold my hand the whole time?” He raised a brow, his grin cocky. You realized you’d never let his hand go, “Oh, geez, sorry!” You let your grip go slack, but his fingers remained intertwined with yours. Confused, you wiggle them a bit, but he still doesn’t let go.
“You don’t gotta let go, you know, it’s chill. We’re about to go again anyways,” he nodded to something behind you. You turn your head, noticing one of the wooden mannequin like beings standing where the rollarcoaster operator did at theme parks. You’d seen others manning the game or food stands, but you hadn’t thought to look for one here. How did you not notice it before?
The wooden doll, which looked exactly like a posing doll for drawing, stared(?) at you, then gave a small wave before the coaster began its ascension up the hill once again. You finally tightened your grip on Jax’s hand again, facing him once more, “I would have expected you’d get upset I grabbed you!”
“Nah, I just wasn’t expecting it-” The coaster dropped, and you screamed in delight. This time, Jax was the one who raised your clasped hands. You copied, lifting your free hand. He didn’t raise his, however, and remained gripping the lapbar. You wondered why, but didn’t question it just yet. You were too busy screaming! The ride was going!
The second time was just as fun as the first, maybe even better! Having Jax hoot and holler with you the whole time created an amazing experience, and you were glad you’d invited him over this morning.
Jax shouted something to you, but it was incomprehensible over the roaring of the coaster. “WHAT?” You shout back, and he repeats himself, but again, you can’t hear. You’re surprised he heard you, but maybe he just assumed what you said from your single time opening your mouth.
The train of coaster cars pulled back in to the stattion for a second time, then you smile sheepishly, “Sorry… still didn’t hear you…” Jax stands, helping you to your feet using the hand he still had held tight. “I said do you wanna go grab a snack or hit up the teacups?” He laughed, shaking his head slightly.
“Oh, yeah! Teacups should go first though. I don’t have the strongest stomach in the world,” you agree. Jax snorts at you, tugging you along as he descends the stairs that were labeled, “ENTER.” You would have told him he probably shouldn’t, but there wasn’t exactly a line. Besides, he seemed to enjoy being an agent of mild inconvenience.
He dragged you towards the next ride, “Just don’t puke on me, I’ll make you regret it,” he warned. The threat didn’t bother you. He wasn’t as mean as he liked to pretend to be, you could tell. You didn’t think the others thought that way, though. Maybe Ragatha, but you doubted it.
You pointed to a specific teacup, “That one!” you grinned, “it’s my favorite color.” Jax rolled his eyes, “Leave it to you to pick a cup the baby way.” You stuck your tongue out, “You barely know me, you can’t say that!” you joke.
Still, the two of you slip into the cup. You glance at Jax, “You can let go of my hand now,” you muse, finding it funny he’d still held on. He quickly dropped it, “Right, right. Was seeing how long it took you to say somethin’.” Sure he was. Still, you don’t say anything about it.
This time, you look for the doll managing the ride. Your quickly find it, then give a thumbs up. It remains still for a moment, then slowly lifts a thumbs up. You might have confused it, but the ride starts, so you dismiss it.
Or maybe you can’t, because the next thing Jax says, “Why’d you do that? It’s just and NPC, it’s not alive. It would’ve started the ride anyway.” You shrug, gripping onto the steering wheel and making the cup spin lazily, “I don’t know. I guess I jist thought it deserved to be acknowledged?”
Jax didn’t respond, instead grabbing the wheel like you, meeting the same speed as you. Just making it easier to spin, you guessed. You sat in silence for a few seconds, then remembered how Jax hadn’t let go of the lap bar. You wondered if he was afraid of heights.
A grin slowly spread across your face. It wasn’t height related, but maybe you could mess with him. You gripped the wheel tighter than before and tugged as hard as you could. The teacup jolted, spinning faster and faster as you spun the wheel. Jax hadn’t gotten the memo, not that you told him, and slid backwards, his back smacking against the side of the cup.
“What are you doing-?” He gripped the seat below him to try to hang on, but was tossed onto his side with a loud thud, “SLOW DOWN!!” You laughed maniacally, refusing to slow even a tiny bit, “Nah! Payback time, Bunbun! This is for Gangle!” You whoop.
You kept it spinning until the end of the ride. Giggling, you watched Jax shakily stand up, hurrying off of the ride onto safe, not spinning ground. You follow after him, still grinning. You felt a tiny bit bad, but not enough to regret it, “Hey, sorry- teheheh- Are you okay?” you reach for him, grasping his hand for the second time today.
Jax glances at you, his grin a bit forced, “I’m fine, I’m-” he paused when your fingers interlocked with his once more. He glanced  at you, brows raised. You opened your mouth to apologize, but you heard voices up the path. Your head snapped up, and there stood Ragatha, with Gangle close behind, waving to you.
Her eyes locked on your hands, her smile widening. Jax quickly dropped your hand, standing back up to full height. He didn’t look at you, his attention now entirely fixated on Ragatha. Although, you could have sworn he looked anxious. You hoped you didn’t upset him…

chaotic confessions
- you rush to heal tighnari in pardis dhyai, but you're met with resistance from him.
Tumblr media
characters: tighnari x reader a/n: the new archon quest has me in utter shambles and I literally threw my headset when tighnari was struck. also I brain rotted this in my friends' dms at 3 am so I've basically just copy pasted what I wrote here. warnings: mentions of injury and hiding injuries. reader can 'heal' by taking on the pain themselves. its implied that the reader has low self worth. tighnari is ooc and this is cheesier than a mozzarella stick. no beta we die like scaras OG design soz
Tumblr media
“Ugh…no, don’t”
The pained yell startles you and your hands drop  - the glow in your veins fading into nothing once more. Concern washes over you when Tighnari nearly rips himself away from your grasp, the sudden movement sending another stabbing sensation through his entire body. Eyes blown wide in surprise, you reach out to try and steady him but he flinches away from you once more; you hold back a wince, and shuffle further away from him on the floor.
You watch as he maneuvers himself into a more comfortable position with a groan, his eyes fluttering shut due to the pain. His chest heaves, occasionally stuttering, as he tries to breathe deeply. Seconds later, his eyes open to meet yours, only to find that you’re looking down.
You lean back and gaze at your hands sadly; faint swirls appearing under your skin, as if countless incantations were swimming through your veins. His gaze follows yours; narrowing at the sight of the foreign element painting your skin in waves, disappearing and reappearing at your will.
“Did I… do something wrong?”
Your voice comes out meek; Tighnari sighs as you refuse to meet his gaze.
“You really think I havent noticed?” He asks, and your head raises slightly at the question; eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
“Noticed what?”
“Your…healing, if we can even call it that… I’ve observed it for a while now out of sheer curiosity, and due to its immense capabilities, especially considering you don’t have a vision…but I noticed something was off”
Your body visibly tenses up, but no words pass your lips; Tighnari lets out a sigh and continues.
“In the action of healing others, you take on the pain yourself, don’t you?”
A somewhat awkward smile pulls at your lips, and your eyes fall shut. A decision is quickly made; there’s no point in lying to Tighnari - knowing him, he’s already got plenty of evidence to back you into a corner if he needs to.
“Ah, what gave it away?”
“I first noticed in Gandharva Ville - back when you first arrived in Sumeru, and healed a small wound for the Traveler. I thought it was odd that you seemed to be in pain, but I didn’t really care to question it, since your explanation about using a lot of energy made sense. But when it happened again… I got suspicious.”
“...you’re talking about the gash on Amir’s leg, i presume?”
“Mhm. I saw you wincing afterwards, and you were hiding a limp for a few days. You didn’t even let me take a look at it…”
Your teeth dig into your lower lip as you look away; normally, you were good at hiding the true nature of your ‘gift’, letting people believe that you just needed adequate rest. But, of course that excuse wouldn’t work for long on Tighnari.
“So no, it’s not…you haven’t done anything wrong. I can handle the pain just fine on my own, don’t worry. Like I said earlier, the wound isn’t fatal…” He pauses, steadying his breathing - talking continuously is doing a number on him, you can tell, but he’s taking it in stride. A small smile graces his face at your concerned expression, and he continues, this time softer. “…and to be honest, I don’t want to see you hurt. Not because of me, not because of anyone.”
You suppress the urge to scoff, and roll your eyes playfully; “Oh, so you do care…”
Tighnari clearly doesn’t find your remark as amusing as you do; his smile turns to a frown, and the sharp look in his eyes makes you want to take back what you just said.
“You… of course I care about you. Don’t ever doubt that for a second-“ he coughs again, but continues nevertheless. “-Hmph, do you even realise how relieved I was to see you rush in unceremoniously like that, unscathed?”
“Well, I was playing a pretty intense game of tag with the weather-“ you laugh nervously, reminded of the ongoing thunderstorm outside. Tighnari scans you, his gaze landing on your right arm. His eyes narrow.
“Yeah, and with the fatui, judging by the wound on your arm…”
Your gaze softens. “Tighnari…”
He sighs, exasperated - and clearly still in a lot of pain. You reach out to gently caress his face, hoping that the action will calm him down. His eyes close, and he leans into your hand, almost nuzzling it; you smile.
“Just be safe for me. That’s… that’s all I’m asking for, alright? And stop it with this self sacrificing thing you’ve got going on. Listen, I know you want to help people, and I’m by no means stopping you from doing that, but…taking risks like this is unnecessary. Don’t put your safety into jeopardy like this…” A lighting strike hits the ground right outside the entrance to the greenhouse, and Tighnari’s eyes widen briefly at the noise. His ears fall flat for a second, before he tries to straighten up again. He shakes his head as you open your mouth to speak.
“All life is important - including yours” He pauses again, gaze falling on one of the windows, before continuing with a whisper.
“…especially yours”
Heat rises to your cheeks and you look down, his words filling you with joy, more than you’d like to admit. Yet, it’s bittersweet.
Tighnari sighs when you avoid his gaze, lowering his head to chase yours.
“Hey, look at me.”
Eventually, you glance up at him. A silent prayer leaves you, you hope that your flushed state isn’t as obvious as you feel it might be. But, judging by the small twitch of Tighnari’s lips, you’re failing pretty miserably at hiding it. He interrupts himself with another pained groan before he can comment, and you jump into action, grabbing his wrists out of reflex, concern washing over your face again. Tighnari gives you a warning glare - though his face softens quickly when you remain still.
“I mean it. You need to stay safe. Cyno, Aether, Paimon, Collei, heh, even Al Haitham needs you to stay safe. I… need you to come back safe.” He slowly pries his wrists free from your hands, grabbing them instead. Gentle thumbs rub your palms, trembling slightly as he continues; “This plan of yours is ambitious, to put it nicely…the last thing I want - or need - is for them to tell me you’re not coming back.”
Tighnari inhales suddenly, and you fear that he’s in pain again - the thought of healing him without permission briefly crosses your mind, deciding that you’d rather deal with the consequences later, until you realize that it’s not the pain from his wound this time. His voice breaks, the next words coming out meek, more so than you’ve ever heard.
“Please, always come back. I don’t know what i’ll do if you don’t come back”
You finally meet his gaze properly, surprised to see him staring directly at you with narrowed eyes. His chest is rising and falling rapidly, though he’s trying to contain his breathing as you let his words sink in.
“…I’m sorry, Tighnari. I… I really didn’t realize that you worry this much about me.” You whisper, gaze falling to your hands again.
He scoffs and looks away, voice still unstable.
“Hah, judging by our conversation, you probably didn’t even consider the possibility…you’re more reckless than the traveler sometimes”
You wince, though you know you can’t argue. Tighnari sighs, leaning back against the pedestal he’s sat by. His eyes close again, the action pushing forward what seems to be a tear. Blink and you’ll miss it, and you pretend to do so - for now.
“Ah, sorry. I didn’t mean to…lecture you like that.”
“Well, you’re not wrong, so…”
“Maybe not, but that doesn’t make it alright that I’m lecturing you like you’re some…child who got lost in the forest. I must admit that communicating my feelings isn’t exactly my strong suit…seems to be a recurring theme with us scholars, huh.”
You chuckle, knowing exactly who he’s referring to.
“I think you’ve done a pretty good job so far - only managed to enter full-blown lecture territory once, besides the odd few remarks here and there…”
Tighnari lets out what you assume is meant to be a laugh - though it’s more of a pained wheeze, followed up by another fit of coughs. You move to sit next to him, shuffling closer and leaning against the pedestal. His hand is still clutching yours as he looks towards the entrance. Another flash of lightning strikes close by, and he flinches, shrinking into himself again. You clutch his hand tighter, heart heavy at the reactions he’s clearly trying to hide.
Tighnari finally looks at you again.
“You really don’t get what I mean by that, do you?”
You shake your head. You wouldn’t dare entertain the possibility.
“Heh…you’re so smart, but always lack self confidence…I guess I’ll play along for-“
Both of your heads snap to the side when a strong flash of lightning strikes the roof of the greenhouse, the loud noise shocking you both. Tighnari clearly winces this time, and you push yourself off the pedestal, moving to sit in front of him while speaking.
“It’ll pass soon…as soon as the Balladeer realizes that the Traveler and Dehya have already gone on, hell stop the st-“
Tighnari gives your hand a squeeze.
“Don’t worry about me, love”
You open your mouth to protest, but find yourself at a loss for words at the sudden nickname, accompanied by another soft smile from him.
“Backtrack…5 seconds?”
He suppresses another pained laugh, leaning slightly closer.
“I just said not to worry about me, you big lummox, is your hearing really that awful? I’m willing to bet that it’s all of Paimon’s screaming…”
In any other situation, you’d be wiping the shit-eating grin off his face with your fist (which he’d dodge, probably), but given the circumstances, all you let out is a frustrated noise and a quiet yell of “that’s not what you said”, while he leans back with another wheeze.
“And stop laughing so much, you’re clearly in even more pain now!”
Tighnari shakes his head with a small smile.
“Like I said - don’t worry about me, love. Worry about figuring out what I mean instead”
“You could literally be dying right now, and you want me to play guessing games?”
“Well, we need to pass the time somehow while we wait this storm out.”
You sigh, and feel your face flush again. You’re…quite unsure of what is going on between you and Tighnari. With everything you’ve been doing, all the stress of dealing with the sages and helping Nahida break free…you’ve hardly had time to think about it. Truthfully, it’s not worth the risk of getting your hopes up, either. The fond smiles, the banter, the way Tighnari fusses over you…you’ve always played it off as friendly affairs, even with Paimon and Aether snickering at your every conversation with him. But, you can only feign obliviousness for so long.
You feel something soft - Tighnari’s tail - flick against your leg, as he intertwines your fingers with his.
“Finally got it, hm?”
You’re unsure if it’s the pain and stress talking, but what you do know is that, regardless of influence, his words - and actions - are true. They hold a certain truth, a truth that brings warmth to your heart, and you can’t fight the smile that forces its way onto your face, breaking out into a grin as you nod.
“Think so, yeah.”
Tighnari mirrors your smile with his own; though exhaustion and pain seeps through, along with the occasional wince from the lightning, his smile holds just as much joy as yours.
“So, always come back to me, alright?”

“Oh, look at what finally came!”
You had been sitting at the dining room table, filling out a mission report for the Avengers and drinking tea with Natasha when you heard your girlfriend’s voice. You and Natasha both looked up, only to see Wanda walking in, carrying the mail and holding a particular envelope. She wore a bright smile and slid the envelope onto the table, so you and Natasha could get a look at it.
In easily-recognizable, cursive handwriting, the ink on the envelope said: “To Natasha, Wanda, and Y/N.”
“This must be Pepper’s writing — there’s no way Tony’s is this neat,” you commented, watching as Natasha took the envelope and opened it up, pulling out its contents. The three of you already knew what this was — it arrived in your mailbox every year in late October.
Natasha slipped out a thin card that said: “TONY’S HALLOWEEN BASH” with the date of October 31st and the address of the Stark Tower printed below.
“He must have had someone else do the invitations. This looks considerably better than last years,” Natasha said, allowing you and Wanda to look over the card.
“Are we RSVP’ing then?” You said, even though it wasn’t really a question. You RSVP’d every year — every superhero who received it did. Tony always hosted the best parties, especially on Halloween.
“I’ll let Pepper know right now,” Wanda said, pulling out her phone from her pocket.
“Y/N,” Natasha said, turning to look at you from her place across the table from you. She wore a hesitating, cautionary look. You leaned back in your seat, raising your eyebrows. Natasha never hesitated to say anything. “When is, uh, the full moon? It’s already the 26th and if it’s soon, we should plan so that you’ll feel well enough to go to the party.”
The Full Moon was always a rough time of the month, so it made sense why Natasha didn’t seem fully confident in asking about it. Both she and Wanda were aware of how painful your transformations were, and despite how long the three of you dated, you always preferred to deal with them on your own. Natasha and Wanda had never actually seen you in your werewolf form.
You pulled out your phone to check. You had been so busy this past week that the full moon had completely slipped your mind. A quick google search gave you your answer — and made you frown. “What is it?” Wanda asked gently.
“The 31st,” you answered quietly, glancing up but not looking at your girlfriends.
Natasha and Wanda shot each other a look. No matter how many times they told you that they were happy to help you through the full moon, you still refused. You told them that it was because you didn’t want to hurt them (even though Wanda could cast spells to protect herself and Natasha), but you were also insecure about them seeing your werewolf form. What if it scared you off? What if they thought you were ugly?
“Oh, that’s alright,” Wanda said, smiling softly.
“Tony’s party is always the same anyway,” Natasha added, shrugging.
This caused you to meet their gazes, confused. “What? No. You guys should still go, I’ll be fine,” you insisted, not wanting them to miss out.
Natasha and Wanda shared another glance. “We don’t want to go without you, love,” Natasha said, reaching out across the table to grab your hand.
You managed a smile, looking at them both, and accepting Natasha’s hand. “I want you guys to, though. I promise I’ll be fine here. This is what’s best. You’ll have so much fun—you always do,” you said, unrelenting.
Your girlfriends still seemed hesitant, so you gave Natasha’s hand a squeeze. “Do it for me, c’mon! I’ll be 100% okay. I have Agatha’s potions that she gives me for the pain so it won’t be too bad,” you said. The last part wasn’t exactly true, which you all knew, but you wanted to be tough for them.
“Are you sure, Y/N?” Wanda asked, tilting her head to the side and raising her eyebrows as she ran a hand through her hair.
You nodded. “Positive,” you assured them.
They were both still hesitant, but would go if it made you happy. They did want to go, but they wanted to do what was best for you first. If this was it, they’d manage. The night of, they still hated to leave you, but you practically shoved them out the door after admiring their dresses and giving them kisses and hugs.
They giggled and gave you one last big hug, promising not to be home too late, before leaving.
When they drove off in Natasha’s car, you let out a soft sigh before closing the door. Your transformation always took a couple hours and for the rest of the night, you’d be stuck in werewolf form until dawn. All there was left to do was prepare and wait it out.
————————————————————————
The party had been nice . . . At first. Natasha and Wanda were swept away with dancing and catching up with their friends, but it wasn’t long before they felt a loss. They danced, but not with you. They ate and drank, but not with you. They talked to people, but not with you. They had to explain to multiple friends how you had insisted that they go without you, and many people had inquired on if you were alright. Around two hours in, Wanda found herself searching for Natasha, only to see the redhead standing on the balcony.
Wanda smiled, observing her girlfriend for a moment before slipping outside and joining her. Natasha didn’t move at first, her gaze stuck on the sky. Wanda noticed how the moonlight seemed to shine on her face as she looked up. Following her gaze to the moon, Wanda took her hand. “You thinking about Y/N?” She asked.
Natasha nodded and squeezed Wanda’s hand. “I hate being here without them,” she admitted, sighing and keeping her eyes on the moon.
Wanda let out a quiet hum of agreement, only shifting her gaze to glance at the redhead. They both missed their partner deeply and stood together for a little bit while they admired the view, thought about Y/N, and breathed in the night air. The only interruption came when Natasha’s phone started ringing. She huffed and fished it out, but softened and exchanged a glance with Wanda, showing her the caller ID.
The smiling face of Y/N.
The women knew that by now, you should of already went to the cabin in the woods that the three of you lived nearby. It was where you went every full moon. Natasha accepted the call and put it on speakerphone: “Y/N? Are you okay?”
For a second, only a bit of rustling and shuffling could be heard. Then, Y/N spoke, words forced and slowed: “I’m — out — of — the potion,” they said, then let out a large breath of air, clearly holding some sort of pain in. “Starting the — transformation — it — hurts.” An involuntary whimper followed, breaking Natasha and Wanda’s hearts. It must be bad if you were calling them.
One look at each other and a silent plan was set in motion. Wanda immediately left to grab hers and Natasha’s coats, along with saying a quick goodbye to Tony, while Natasha stayed on the phone with you. “We’re on our way home right now, love. Just hang on,” she encouraged.
“Oh—kay,” you said, both your voice and breath shaking as you finally accepted their help. Every sound of pain from you that Natasha heard was jolting her like an electric shock. She wished she could reach through the phone and hug you.
Once she saw Wanda heading back, Natasha met her halfway and quickly got her phone on. They both walked as quickly as their high heels could allow, heading to the parking lot and finding Natasha’s car. Wanda took the phone while Natasha drove — barely going the speed limit.
“You’re going to get through this, Y/N. We’re almost—” Wanda cooed, only to get interrupted by your scream of pain from the transformation.
Hearing that, she gripped the phone a little tighter and Natasha sped up a little, frowning. They managed to quickly get home. Natasha had barely pulled into the driveway before Wanda was jumping out, sprinting towards the cabin. After shutting off the engine, Natasha followed.
Wanda ended the call right before they burst inside the cabin, only to find you lying on the floor, withering in pain. They both dropped to their knees, pulling you into their arms. Every scream that tore from your lips pierced their hearts. There was nothing they could do except hold you until the transformation continued, whispering soothing things and running their hands through your hair in an attempt to help.
“Get ‘way. Gonna hurt you,” you muttered, weakly pushing at Natasha and Wanda and trying to lean away.
“Wanda can put up a barrier around us, but we’re only leaving when it’s time,” Natasha said, loudly so you could hear her in your disoriented and pained state.
After this change, you couldn’t sit — or lie — still. The pain was becoming too much. Natasha and Wanda didn’t stop you, but were careful to make sure that you didn’t accidentally hurt yourself. When your hands shifted to claws and fur began to grow, and you practically leapt away, they knew to let you go. They both stood up, watching the transformation take place. It was unlike either of them had ever seen — but contrary to your beliefs, they weren’t scared. Mesmerized, more like it. Curious. Wanting to help. Do something.
You ran to the back of the cabin and, finally in your full werewolf form, let out a howl. Then, your yellow eyes locked onto your girlfriends and within seconds, were bounding towards them. Wanda managed to be quicker, though, and with a few words and the wave of her hands, an invisible boundary was put up around them.
You promptly ran into it, bouncing back and letting out a confused whimper. “Sorry, hun,” Wanda apologized.
Natasha observed you for a moment, as you walked around the cabin. “Damn, Y/N’s cute even as a wolf,” she said, to which Wanda smiled and nodded along to.
You eventually settled down and Natasha and Wanda made their way to the corner, keeping their eyes on you. “Are we gonna stay up all night?” Natasha inquired.
“Maybe not entirely. Y/N would not want that,” Wanda said. She had no interest in pissing you off — you could be almost as scary as Natasha.
The redhead nodded. A couple minutes passed, and the Vampire and the Witch seemed to relax. “Well, she seems rather calm—” Wanda began to say, only for your ears and head to perk up at a sound. Within a flash, you were on all fours and had ran out the cabin door. “—Nevermind.”
They followed after you, watching as you ran around the trees, growling and howling. Seeing you so free brought smiles to their faces — it seemed like you were having fun. The moonlight was shining on you, illuminating your fur.
“So beautiful,” Wanda murmured. Natasha squeezed your hand.
They watched you in awe until you stopped, looked up, and howled at the moon. Your gaze was fixated on it. You paused for a moment, before sprinting off into the woods.
Your ears hadn’t moved, so it wasn’t a sound you heard . . . Which meant that you must’ve been chasing the moonlight. Natasha and Wanda connected the dots, their smiles only growing.
“Adorable,” they said in union.
When you didn’t return, they assumed you were still on your chase. Growing tired, the two decided to head back for the night and get some rest so that they could wake up early in the morning. They walked hand-in-hand, their minds on you, until they reached their house. Their thoughts never left you as they changed into pajamas. Both would pause and smile when they heard a howl in the distance. Eventually, they climbed into bed, falling asleep in each other’s arms to the sounds of the night and to your howling.
Natasha had set her alarm so that it’d go off before the sun even rose — they wanted to be prepared. When it did, she and Wanda woke up a little tiredly, but excited to go see you. They got dressed and grabbed blankets and a change of clothes for you before heading back to the cabin.
They found you laying in the grass a little bit away from the cabin, though. You were curled up on the ground, still in your Werewolf form, your back facing your girlfriend and letting out whimpers. Natasha draped the blanket over you and sat down with Wanda, both rubbing your back and petting your head to provide any sort of comfort.
Eventually, the whimpers grew louder and louder. Natasha and Wanda tensed up each time, but they reminded themselves that they were getting you back soon. After what felt like an eternity, you shifted back. The big blanket practically swallowed you and you seemed to be asleep.
(Natasha and Wanda thought you looked very cute, as they always did)
Tucking you in the blanket, Wanda gently rolled you onto her back. She let out a small gasp when she saw a gash on your forehead, exchanging a worried look with a frowning Natasha before gently shaking your shoulder.
A groan let them know that you were awake and you blinked your eyes open slowly, only to find yourself staring back in the loving eyes of your girlfriends. “Welcome back,” Wanda said.
You scrunched your face up for a moment before the memories of the night came back like a tidal wave. You slowly sat up, with Wanda helping you. “You saw everything?” You asked.
“We weren’t there for the entirety of the night, but we saw some,” Wanda explained as you leaned against her. Despite just waking up, the transformation and the night exhausted you and you were in some pain, your body quite sore.
“You’re a cute wolf,” Natasha added, grinning.
This eased your growing worries and you blushed, but smiled at her. “What’s that on your forehead?” Natasha then asked.
You touched the side of your head, just now realizing that it was bleeding. “Oh,” you said, smiling sheepishly. “Yeah. Sometimes I, uh, get into fights with other animals.”
Natasha and Wanda couldn’t help but smirk and you bit your lip. “How about we get you inside?” Wanda suggested, handing you the pair of clothes she had gotten you. You nod and slipped them on — it was a plain t-shirt and shorts. Wanda helped you up and Natasha joined the two of you on your other side, both helping you walk.
Their arms were wrapped around you and you leaned into them, enjoying the comfort and security that your girlfriends provided.
When you three got inside, Wanda led you to your guys’ bedroom and Natasha grabbed the first aid kit. Wanda got you settled into the bed, pulling the covers over you and letting you lean against her. The full moon always took a lot out of you and your first instinct was to succumb to sleep.
“Not just yet, love,” Wanda gently told you, humming as she ran her thumb over your cheek.
You whined, but blinked your eyes open just in time to spot Natasha entering the room. She climbed onto the bed next to you, opening the first aid kit and sorting through the stuff. “This might sting a little,” she warned, before reaching out and beginning to clean your cut.
You winced, but Wanda soothed you by rubbing her hand up and down your arm. You allowed yourself to relax into her. Natasha finished cleaning it and put a small bandage on, before putting the first aid kit away. When she climbed back into bed, you were squished between them.
(Not that you minded)
“Now you can sleep,” Wanda told you, as your back rested against her chest and you faced Natasha, lying down.
You smiled, getting comfortable with your head on the pillow. Natasha ran her fingers through your hair, almost combing it. This action only lulled you deeper into sleep’s hold — something Natasha and Wanda both knew would happen. “This really takes a lot out of you, hm?” Natasha observed, watching over you carefully.
“Yeah . . .” You admitted quietly, eyes already closed. “‘M sorry for ruining Halloween.”
“Oh, darling,” Natasha said as Wanda wrapped her arm around your waist, holding you close.
“You didn’t ruin anything. We wanted to take care of you and help,” Wanda assured you.
You found yourself smiling and blinked your eyes open for a second. “You guys can help during the full moon . . . If you want,” you relented.
Natasha and Wanda smiled at each other, so happy that you had finally blessed them with your permission. “We’d love to,” Natasha said.
You closed your eyes again. With Wanda’s arms around you and Natasha’s hand in your hair, it put you to sleep quite quickly. Natasha and Wanda noticed this and smiled. “I cannot get enough of this cuteness,” Wanda said, grinning and kissing your cheek. When you smiled in her sleep, the women had to refrain from cooing.
“The most adorable sight ever,” Natasha agreed, reaching her free arm over you and Wanda.
Neither of them were tired, so they just watched over you while you slept, keeping up a quiet conversation. It was the perfect lazy day to relax indoors, all cuddled up. They absolutely loved it.

"Why are we hating on JJK writers and fans."
Okay, as a JJK fan, let's list everything that has happened for the past three months. Take a seat and drink water. You're gonna need it. And since you people always think I'm angry, imagine me saying this with the most deadpan tone in the world. I am not angry posting this. I am jaded.
Majority of you are racist. Don't boo me you know it's the truth. Just look at how you guys wanted me to deactivate or tried to gaslight me because I said your fave is supporting a pedo. In FACT. It was a JJK writer who sent my post to that lady who opened me up to a lot of racial abuse from JJK fans. Edit; oh and she didn't apologize for doing that to me btw. I won't expose her though.
And doubling down on the racism, you people do not respect black women in your fandom. Like it is VERY bad. My jjk moots since 2021 up until now still get racial slurs hurled at them because they exist in a space that does not care or defend them. And you see your black moots get racist comments but you want to go "no discourse". I get it. You are a pussy. But to that extent? If you're above 20 and you're still scared of talking about racism in your community or standing up for black writers I am ashamed for you and I am shaming you.
I didn't even see any of you talk about noury on here. Especially ms "I will use the palestinian genocide to hide from criticism." I genuinely hope you at least donated something to her or spoke about her on your other platforms.
The way you guys excuse anything as long as the person is your friend. Because tell me why you people were jumping on Ezra's and Tee's dick, especially after what they both did. Or trying to discredit his racism. Be for real.
The way some of you come for other fandoms. JJK girls, especially that one that deactivated came around to drag aot writers because they said they are "niggerfying" the characters. You go to tr writers and start sending hate, chasing them out. Hell, there are cliques of JJK writers and fans alike on this site. You guys are fucking elitist. You don't like any other person apart from yourselves and it shows. The way you come for how people write x reader "why is she so ghetto". It is ALWAYS you people. Always.
SatoSugu fans are slowly becoming extremely misogynistic. I'd expect that behaviour from dudebros but the moment a girl says they like either of them, they come out of the woodworks. Also, let people ship crack ships in peace. I've been a satosugu girlie long before the season 2 came out and I miss when we were a lot quieter. NanaGo girlies were chill. Can't you copy them at least?
Now moving on to less pending reasons:
I've said this before and I'll say this again, stop tagging "he spat in your mouth and came" or nsfw links with x reader and about 30 plus characters. I get it, we're all burnt out. But even in my busiest of days in university I have NEVER posted that kind of shit. I take my time because writing is a skill and an art. This is not fast fashion.
And stop rewarding anyone who does that. Why are they having 1k notes in 6 hours? What the fuck is up with that?
Do better writing Gojo and hell the entire cast. I get it. Every character has a stereotype attached to them. But come on, 800 words and STILL it is a copy and paste of every other fic? I have to check twice if it is the same author and it's not. It's like every naruto oc fic written in 2016. Same face syndrome but in fic writing.
Writers are getting burned out cause you guys want the same thing over and over again. I hope salt is not the only spice you use because sending hate anons to JJK writers who write outside daddy doms and playboy Gojo is giving that energy. Be for real. These people are giving quality fics, stop chasing them away.
These are my few gripes with you all, because one day is not enough to list every issue I have. If the shoe fits and you rant in my inbox, that's on you. I did tell you to take a seat, drink water and read this in the calmest voice as possible.

I. WALK YOU HOME | II. DIVE INTO YOU | III. DRIVE | IV. MAKE IT WITH YOU
Tumblr media
Three weeks before your summer break ended, you drove Mark’s car to your university’s athletic complex on an early Saturday morning.  As you made the turn onto the campus’ main road, the dashboard’s screen lit up with a familiar name. A simple button press allowed you to answer the call while your eyes remained on the empty street. It was a warm summer morning after all. No one else would even bother coming to campus unless they had work or summer school. “Hello?”
“Hey, Sunshine! You on your way to campus yet?” Mark’s bright voice filled your ears. You wanted to laugh. If anyone were pure sunshine, it would be Mark Lee and not you. If only the boy realized it himself.
“Yeah, I’m only a few minutes away,” you replied as you stopped at the red light. Just as you finished that sentence, you saw a couple of charter buses drive past you as the other light turned green. You grinned, knowing that Mark and your other friends were finally home. “Hey, you just drove past me!”
The sounds of material shuffling around echoed through the speakers and you knew Mark made for the closest window to catch a glimpse of you in his car. “Oh shit, you weren’t kidding!”
“Would I ever let you down, Marky?” you laughed as green flashed before you. Feeling the wheel slip in between your fingers, you continued your way across campus and followed the path the buses took.
“Actually, you—”
“Finish that sentence and I’m turning this car around,” you joked as you pulled into the lot where all the buses parked. As you drove closer, you saw all the athletes disembarking and gathering their belongings stored in the compartments.
Every summer, your university required all student-athletes to attend a two-month-long training camp at a high-class sports facility. Your school wasn’t the only one in attendance, many others were invited as well. It was something every athlete looked forward to and dreaded at the same time. They loved being in their own bubble and meeting other teams to form a sort of friendly camaraderie but hated the long hours of training this camp asked of them. By the end of the month, they usually came back to school exhausted but in the best shape of their life.
“Yes, ma’am,” he said and you could almost see him saluting you. “I’ll see you in a bit.”
“Yeah, I’ll come and find you, I just have to park.”
“Don’t be so shocked when you see Marky, Squirt. He’s a whole-ass man now,” a voice other than Mark’s responded. Johnny Suh must’ve been his seatmate during the ride back. The outside hitter of the men’s volleyball team always found joy in butting into other people’s conversations. The tall guy could never keep to himself.
“Dude,” was the last thing you heard before the line went dead.
Johnny’s sentence left you wondering what he meant. Why would you be shocked?
You found out soon after as you stood by buses, standing on your tippy toes to catch a glimpse of your best friend amongst the crowd of athletes. Johnny, being the tall giant he was, spotted you first. Your friend gave you a shit-eating grin as he exited the bus alongside Ten Lee, a member of the ice hockey team, and another friend of yours. It was funny how you were friends with so many athletes but did not carry one athletic bone in your body.
“Hey there, Squirt,” Johnny teased as you approached him. God, if you had the skills and accuracy, you wanted to spike a volleyball right in his devilishly handsome face.
“Shut up, you menace,” you said as you avoided his hand that aimed to ruffle your hair.
“Yo, Marky, I found her for you!” he yelled over his shoulder. Johnny bent down ever-so-slightly to whisper in your ear, “You’re welcome, by the way.”
“For what?”
“You’ll see, young one,” Ten chuckled, pressing a little kiss to your head before dragging Johnny to find their duffles and gear they brought with them during the course of the summer.
And see you did as the athlete you didn’t recognize as Mark popped into view. You caught sight of him from afar but dismissed him because there was no way that man was your best friend. His shoulders were broader than you had last seen him. His chest and arms filled out the shirt he wore so well. As your eyes raked over his bigger build, you could not pinpoint that the shirt he wore was the very shirt you gifted him for his birthday last year.
When Mark first received the present, his lean build made the shirt appear fashionably oversized. It draped nicely over his shoulders and drowned the rest of his body in the softest fabric with a design that was so undeniably Mark you couldn’t resist buying it for him. His arms were thin compared to the large holes in his sleeves, he looked nothing but cute in the shirt.
But now, the design of the shirt was stretched out against the wide planes of his chest. A line appeared down the middle, drawing attention to his pecs, you could barely take your eyes away from the sight. The only things that caught your attention were the arms Mark frantically waved in your direction. Although not completely hugging his biceps, you could see his arms taking up more space in the sleeves. You couldn’t even bring yourself to blink when his flexed muscles hauled his hockey bag behind his back.
And his face. Dear God, his face was even more chiseled than before, amplifying the good looks others would swoon over.
If someone were to ask you before Mark left for the summer, you would’ve called him your cute friend. If they asked you the same question now, at this very moment, you would say that Mark Lee was fucking hot.
“You look different,” was all you could say as he approached you. A snort came from beside you. It was another athlete scouring through piles for their own gear. To him, you probably sounded like a lovestruck idiot. That was what you would call yourself at that moment anyway.
Mark paused a few steps away from you, appalled at the first sentence you uttered to him since his return. “Like a good different? Or a bad different?” With the way his voice tilted up at the end of his second question, you could tell your friend (and crush) was beginning to pick at his new appearance.
Your eyes scanned his body again, appreciating the way his shirt was so deliciously filled in all the right places and how the curve of his butt still stood out in the soccer pants that hugged his toned legs. “No, uh, it’s a good different. Yeah, definitely—definitely a good different.” Since when were you the type to stutter?
“Oh, good. Cool, yeah, I mean cool.”
“Cool.”
“Yeah, um, Johnny took me under his wing while we hit the gym during camp and he showed me a couple of things I could do,” Mark chuckled shyly, “I’ve got a solid gym routine now.”
“I mean yeah, it’s really working for you.”
“Y-yeah, you think so?”
Before your brain could spit out your big fat crush on your best friend, you quickly changed the topic and flashed a bright smile at him—the one that he called sunshine. “I’ve missed you, Marky.” You opened your arms for a hug and waited for him to approach.
“Oh my god, dude, I’ve missed you so much,” Mark practically sighed as he dropped his bags filled with expensive gear just to pull you into him. Being in his strong arms, feeling his chest against yours, and smelling the fresh scent of his cologne set your heart and skin ablaze. You were so in your feelings that you couldn’t bring yourself to respond. Instead, you shut your eyes and wound your arms around his waist to press him even closer to you. “I’m so glad to be back.” His voice was low and raspy, his breath hitting the shell of your ear, as he said those words and it sent a shiver down your body.
“Glad you’re back too,” you whispered into the crook of his neck.
A loud slap rang in your ears and you felt Mark wince in pain. The hit broke your contact with Mark as you both shifted to see who inflicted the uncalled-for strike. Your neighbor, Jeno, just laughed as he hauled his gear over a shoulder. A shoulder that appeared wider than the last time you had seen him. Summer did him good as well. But not as good as it did for Mark.
“God, you two are disgusting. Just get together already,” Jeno chuckled as he walked by, playfully shoving your head into Mark’s chest.
Instead of denying the chemistry Jeno insinuated, Mark simply said, “Bro, shut up.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Jeno ignored Mark’s comment. “See you lovebirds at the beach later?”
The local beach was around one and a half hours away. A small group of friends—including Jaemin, Renjun, and Chenle—left earlier in the morning to secure a spot at the beach. You and Mark were going to stop by his apartment so he could drop off his hockey gear and change into beach attire before heading over to the rest of them. The remainder of the ice hockey team as well as some volleyball, soccer, and basketball folks were coming as well.
“Yup, see you later, Jeno!” you waved him off before leading Mark to his parked car. Tossing Mark his keys, he caught them in his hand with his swift reflexes. You got into the passenger seat a bit sulkily. Your friend had a newer model than your beat-up, hand-me-down car; you were going to miss taking his car around the city.
As Mark put his belongings in the trunk, he bit back a grin to see your things already there. It was such a weird thing to smile at but seeing your things mingling with his felt so domestic and right that it just brought him joy. The hockey player slid into the driver’s seat and you were off.
It took ten minutes to get to Mark’s place. His apartment complex was closer than yours, which was why you crashed there half the time during the school year. You were there so often that you left extra sets of clothes in case of emergencies—meaning unplanned sleepovers—and Mark even had an extra key made for you. You could’ve gotten Mark’s things on the way to pick him up but your best friend insisted that he wanted to drop off his hockey gear first. It made sense, seeing as how expensive his gear was. No one would want to leave a bag as valuable as that in the back of a car trunk.
“Wait here, I’ll be quick,” Mark said as he unbuckled his seatbelt. Before completely sliding out of the car, he turned to face you with a shy expression on his face.
“What’s up, Marky?”
His face shifted from shy to determined, like he was hyping himself up to do something. You’d seen your best friend make that face many times in all the years you knew him—before a game, right before a test, or asking a girl out—but it didn’t make sense as to why Mark would do it at that moment.
Light pressure on your cheek pulled you out of your inquisitive mind and back into the present. When you took a deep breath, the smell of clean, fresh laundry took over your senses followed by a whiff of his birch and eucalyptus shampoo that you used every time you stayed over. His shoulder brushed against your own as he pulled away. And that was when you realized what had just happened. Mark kissed you on the cheek.
“What was that for?”
His eyes gleamed and his bashful smile widened. “Nothing, I just missed you a lot.” Leaving you no chance to reply, Mark slipped out of the car and slammed the door behind him. You watched as he ran inside, his hands slapping his reddening cheeks while he entered the building.
Mark’s unexpected action left you in a dizzying haze for who knows long, time slipping away while you replayed that moment over and over and over again in your head. Sure, he had done questionable actions to show affection before, like nuzzling his face in your hair or tugging you by the arm into a big hug, but Mark never went as far as kissing you on the cheek. He pet your hair, shouting “cute!” in the most endearing way with the other younger boys following his lead but a kiss on the cheek? Never been done before. But that didn’t mean you didn’t like it.
Tumblr media
The hour-and-a-half drive to the beach didn’t feel so long to the two of you, not when you were shouting into a Bluetooth microphone you saved for road trips. Singing in the car with Mark was one of your favorite past times. Whether it was headbanging (and almost losing control of the car) to a hard rock song or slowing it down with an R&B track that showcased Mark’s husky vocals, you loved every second of it and wouldn’t do it with anyone else.
It didn’t take you long to find where your friends camped out for the day, their loud shouts carrying over the waves crashing into the shore. They were the biggest group on the beach, with three canopies and two smaller tents all huddled in a circle. You saw Johnny and Jaehyun’s surfboards sticking out of the sand, the boys standing right by them with their rash guards hanging loosely around their waists. Ten was controlling the music while Jeno and Jaemin tag-teamed on grilling the food. Your other friends were either lounging about in their chairs, drinks in hand, and you swore you could Donghyuck shouting at Chenle from the shallow end of the water.
Jaehyun, noticing how much you were struggling to make it through the sand with all your bags, ran to help. “Shouldn’t Mark be helping you with these bags?”
You shrugged as you handed the heavier belongings over to the star basketball player. “He sent me ahead with all the snacks and said he forgot something in the trunk.”
“How was your summer?”
You elbowed Jaehyun’s side with a teasing grin. “Boring without you by my side.”
Jaehyun chuckled, elbowing you right back. “Don’t let Marky hear you say that.”
It was a weird comment to make. “Why?”
The basketball player shook his head knowingly before throwing an arm over your shoulder and pulling you to his side. “Ah, that’s for me to know and you to find out, Squirt.”
“And when exactly will I find out?”
You heard Mark’s voice yelling your name, causing you and Jaehyun to turn around. The boy ran through the sand towards you with a grin brighter than the summer sun, bags tangled in his grip, and an unknown item tucked into his side. Jaehyun released you from his grip and with a gentle shove in Mark’s direction, he replied, “Soon enough I hope.” Your friend went ahead with the rest of your belongings, leaving you to wait for Mark. What did Jaehyun mean by “soon enough?” Was there something you weren’t aware of? Was Mark keeping something from you?
“Sunshine! Look what I brought for us!” Mark pulled out the item pressed against his side to reveal a kite. Your heart swelled with joy and all the feelings you carried for Mark increased tenfold. In the past, you expressed that you always wanted to fly a kite but never had a chance to. It was something shared in passing, nothing memorable by any means. But the fact that Mark remembered that tiny, childlike wish you carried touched you.
Mark stopped in front of you, setting his bags down, to hand the kite over to you. He gently placed it in your hold, giving you the time to admire it.  Its design was simple, just a diamond with rainbow stripes and a matching rainbow tail, but it was beautiful. Your fingers ran through the tail of the kite, feeling the thin fabric slip through the cracks. The breeze picked up, causing the tail to go with the wind, and the childish excitement inside you bloomed. “Can we try it now?”
“Yeah,” Mark laughed at your how your eyes grew brighter and brighter with each passing second. “We just need to drop off the rest of the stuff first and then give it a go.”
Your gaze never left the kite.
“You like it?” Mark asked.
You shifted your gaze to look him in the eye. “I love it. Thank you, Marky.”
Tucking it to your side, you picked up half of Mark’s belongings. You used your free hand to tug Mark, causing him to stumble in the warm sand. “Now, what are we waiting for? Let’s go already!”
Mark wiggled his hand in your hold, twisting it so your fingers interlocked like it was nothing out of the ordinary. You felt heat rising within you and it had nothing to do with the warm weather. There were little catcalls here and there as you approached your group of friends. Jaehyun and Johnny, the ones who started it all, snickered as you shot death glares at them. You shoved the rest of the belongings into their hands. “Here take care of this stuff, will you?”
You dropped your beach bag under a canopy, quickly stripped yourself of your outer layers, and grabbed the pretty kite once again. Mark wasn’t too far behind you, chatting it up with Renjun and Doyoung, who preferred to stay under the shade. Taking your place beside him, you smiled at the other two.
“You ready, sunshine?”
“We’ll be back!” you called to Renjun and Doyoung, who simply waved you off.
Mark led you to the shoreline, your feet sinking into the damp sand. You bounced up and down as you waited for your next step. As you held onto the kite, Mark unwinded a bit of the line from the kite spool with certainty. “Now, there isn’t enough of a breeze down here for the kite to launch, so you have to make a run for it.”
“That I can do.”
“As soon as you feel like you’re fast enough, let it go and run back to me. I’ll do the rest.” At that moment, Mark sounded so reliable and it made you melt into goo. “Sounds good?”
“Sounds great,” you whispered back, nodding at him before you broke into a run. You felt the tension of the kite line as your speed increased. And when the wind made its way through your strands, you lifted the kite up in the air and let it go. Your eyes followed its every move as it made its way up, up, up high into the sky, the tail of it fluttering so pretty below it.
Mark called your name, motioning you to come back to him as he angled the kite to fly above the water. In no time, you were back at his side. Wordlessly, he handed you the reel and you held it with two hands. Mark’s toned arms wrapped around you so that your back pressed against his built front. Every little instruction that he whispered to you brushed against a weak spot of your neck, sending the slightest tingle down your spine. At times, his large hands would land on top of your hands to help you control the reel. When no further instruction was needed, Mark didn’t back away. Instead, he just rested his palms on your hips and watched you as you continued to control the kite.
You flew the kite for the majority of the day, only taking a few breaks to eat or dive in for a quick swim with your friends. The others invited you to play a round of beach volleyball but there was no way you wanted to go against Johnny or Yuta in the sport. That was a losing game and you knew it. Besides, kite flying was more relaxing than chasing after a ball in the sand.
When the sun began to set and the temperature dropped, it was time to set up the bonfire. When the breeze picked up, Mark handed you his hoodie and insisted that you needed it more than he did. Plus, unbeknownst to you, your best friend always left an extra jacket in the car for you in case you got cold. He took hold of the reel as you slipped it on, smiling ear to ear as you covered yourself in his clothes. Mark liked the sight of you in his hoodie so much, he loosened his grip on the kite and the flimsy item was picked up by the wind. The spool dragged on, leaving a tiny path on the sand, as the kite continued to drift away.
“Oh shit!” He yelled as the two of you chased after it. The kite landed right in the water, floating along with the waves. You laughed at the ridiculous situation, stopping right where the water met the sand, while Mark ran full speed ahead into the ocean.
“Mark, hey! It’s okay!” You yelled but your best friend didn’t listen. “Just leave it!”
Determined to get it back for you, Mark dived right into now freezing water and swam towards the floating item. He fought the cold temperature that was prickling his skin and the seawater that got into his brown eyes as he reached out for the rainbow kite. Once he latched onto the tail, he pulled it towards him, hugged it to his chest, and led himself back to the shore.
You met him as he made his way out of the water, immediately draping his beach towel over his wet shoulders. His teeth chattered as he winced at the breeze that wiggled its way through his wet layers. Feeling him shiver against your side, you wrapped your arm around his shoulders and ran your hand up and down his side. “You idiot, why would you go after it? It’s just a kite. Now you’re gonna get sick.”
Mark tucked his wet mop of hair into your shoulder, lips brushing against the skin of your neck. “Because you love the kite,” he muttered.
“You’re a dummy,” you whispered back, leaving a little kiss at the top of his head. His free arm circled around your middle, drawing you closer to him. If it was anyone else, you would easily shove them away for dampening your dry clothes. But because it was Mark, you didn’t mind how the cold fabric tickled your skin. It was nothing compared to the way Mark clung to you. “Let’s get you to the fire.”
If Mark Lee was an endless ocean, you would easily dive into his embrace. And much to everyone else’s knowledge but your own, Mark would do the very same.
If you were a siren, he would heed your dangerous call, no matter the risk. If you were the breeze that pushed the sails, he would go along with the wind. And if you were the bottomless sea, filled with the unknown, Mark Lee would willingly submerge himself into rough waters and dive into you.

You’d stolen the keys to the cabin years ago, and you were fairly sure your dad had no idea you owned copies, because if he did, you’d have been grounded for that - possibly until your fortieth birthday.
Your best friend is covering for you, there is a bag of snacks and other necessities on the seat next to you, and you are facing the prospect of a romantic weekend with your boyfriend. What could possibly go wrong?
A breakup text after you’ve spent three hours waiting anxiously for him to arrive? Yeah, that'll do it. Now, you’re sitting on the couch in the small cabin, freezing because you can’t start a fire, and crying because you were dumped through a text on the night you were finally going to give it up. Honestly, you’re glad he broke it off before you were able to make that mistake.
Tears are hot on your cold cheeks, and you grab another blanket, but it doesn’t help. Getting dumped and freezing to death seems like a very harsh punishment for sneaking out, really, but it’s slowly becoming a viable threat.
When someone sticks a key in the lock of the door, you almost faint. No one is supposed to be here this weekend. Your dad is out of town on business, your mom doesn’t come here alone... A murderer probably wouldn’t have the keys. Right? On a whim, you turn off the lights and hide behind the couch right before the door swings open.
“Huh? Thought I saw the lights on?” The voice is familiar, but you can’t put a finger on it. “Uncle Walt?” Oh no. No, no, no. There’s only one person in the world who calls your dad that, and it’s Mikey.
Mike Salvatore – the brother of Bianca Salvatore, who just so happens to be your best friend – has been a pain in your ass for as long as you can remember. His dad is a friend of your dad’s, which meant you and Bianca grew up together, and you got to deal with her annoying older brother for free. How fun.
Mike steps inside and turns the lights on.  “I can see someone’s in here, I’d really like to know who it is.”
“It’s, eh...” You crawl out from behind the couch. “Me. Hi. What are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same damn thing. At least I got the keys from your dad.” He sounds upset, and although you can’t quite figure out why, you assume it must have something to do with the fact that you’re in the way of him having a quiet night here by himself. If he didn’t have the same idea as you, that is.
“Oh, I’m just here, freshly dumped on what should have been an awesome weekend with my boyfriend. Never fucking mind me, Mike.” There’s no pretending, no holding back tears, no nothing. Because it doesn’t matter. You’ve been caught, Mike is definitely going to snitch on you. You’re sad and single, you’re freezing and you’re going to be so, so dead.
“I’ll just go.” You try to squeeze past him, but he stops you.
“It’s dark out. I wouldn’t let you drive home even if it was an option.” He sounds so serious...
“What do you mean ‘if it was an option’?” Why isn’t it an option now?
“Sorry, Sweetcheeks, we’re snowed in...” Snowed in? Snowed in? Never in a million years... You stare at Mike, and it takes a while before you realize that your mouth is open. “... so even if it wasn’t dark, and you weren’t upset, we’d still be stuck here.”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake!” you cry out, and more tears stream down your face.
“Is there any reason these tears are practically freezing to your cheeks? Are you trying to kill yourself? Because I’m not on board with that, just so you know.” Mike tries to play it off as a joke, but you can see the concern in his eyes.
“Couldn’t start a fire,” you say. For the first time, you realize your teeth are chattering.
“Alright, let’s get that settled first, or else both of us are going to die of hypothermia.” He walks over to the fireplace and laughs when he sees your latest failed attempt at lighting it. “Damn, Sweetcheeks, it’s a good thing I showed up.”
He takes a pocket knife out of his bag and shaves a bunch of thin slivers off the block of wood you had laying in the ashes.
“Grab that basket, would you?” The basket he’s referring to is filled with sticks. “Come here, sit down.”
“Why am I sitting here? I should just stay out of your way.”
“Babygirl, you would have frozen to death if I hadn’t gotten here. You’re learning how to make a fire. Now.” Alright, that does sound like a useful survival skill, now more than ever. And so does ‘breathing normally’, but you can’t seem to remember how to do that, either. Your heart is racing, and you’re past the point of chalking that up to the cold, because it wasn’t nearly as bad before Mikey got here…
“How did you learn?” You ask mostly to distract yourself from your racing pulse and dry mouth. Mikey wasn’t exactly the boy scout type. He was just the annoying older brother type, nothing more, nothing less.
Nothing more. Nothing less. Right?
“I’m a man.” You fight back the urge to snort. That’s a major overstatement. After all, you’re talking about Mikey. Immature, goofy, stupid, dumb, cute– wait, what? “But before I grew up, I was a boy, and they like to set stuff on fire. So, their dads teach them how to do that without burning the house down, and the world is a better place because of it.”
“You never grew up, Mikey, you only got taller.” And somewhere around the time you turned fifteen, he magically got hotter. But that’s not relevant right now, even though it’s fairly hard to ignore now that he’s so close to you.
“Yeah, I have to annoy my baby sister and her cute little friend somehow, right?” Did Mike just call you ‘cute’? You decide not to dwell on it, and instead pay attention to what he has to say. “Alright, fire needs three things: fuel, oxygen, heat. If one of those is not accounted for…” He makes a general gesture at the fireless fireplace.
A few minutes of his slightly condescending explanation later, Mike has actually managed to get a nice fire going. He fills up the kettle with water after ordering you to stay put. You don’t complain; it’s still cold as balls.
“Can I get in on this blanket situation you have going on?” he asks as he sits down next to you. “You kinda took all of them, and I’m gonna get cold, too.” You carefully peel off one blanket-layer and hand it to him.
The tea is hot, the blankets are soft, and the small room is slowly getting warmer. It gets to a point where you slowly unwrap yourself from your carefully constructed cocoon.
“Don’t,” Mike says, “your lips are still blue.” You can only assume he wraps his arms around you without thinking, because… Well, because Mike does most things without thinking, for starters, and because he wouldn’t have done it if he was thinking clearly. Probably.
“Mike, what the hell were you planning on doing here?” you ask. You’re ashamed to think that if you can hear how hoarse your voice is when you say it, Mike can definitely hear, too. And then there’s the thing about not really wanting to find out the answer.
“Eh… There was this chick. She, eh… She bailed on me, but I was halfway here and didn’t feel like turning around.” Is there something in his voice that sounds like he’s lying? Or are your ears deceiving you? Either way… It hurts like a bitch. Which makes no sense because Mike is obnoxious, annoying, gross, and immature.
“Sorry I’m the sucky little stand-in,” you say sarcastically. What you didn’t expect was Mike putting his hands on your cheeks.
“Sucky little stand-in, my ass,” he says, “and get me the name of this guy.”
“You know him,” you say. Mike’s been playing soccer with the guy since they were freshmen in high school.
“Ryan. And you were going to sleep with him.” It’s definitely not a question, but you’re not entirely sure what else it’s supposed to be. The tone in Mike’s voice suggests it’s almost an accusation. “Yeah, don’t say anything, that face is all I need. Fuck, I’m so glad he didn’t show up, baby girl.” His hands fall away from your face, and he wraps you up in a massive hug.
The rest of the night is marshmallows, popcorn, snacks, and games. You never spend time alone with Mikey, it’s weird at first, but you get used to it quickly. Mike is easy to talk to, when he’s not being the annoying older brother. Time goes by fast, and it’s getting kind of late. At some point, you realize that neither of you have really thought about sleeping arrangements.
“You take the bed, I’ll take the couch,” Mike says resolutely, but it doesn’t sit right with you.
“No, it’s okay! I’m a less terrible fit for that couch,” you reply, “you can take the bed.” Mike thinks about that for a second. It’s not a big couch, you’re going to have to curl up enough as is, and Mikey is definitely taller than you. Then he makes a suggestion that makes your heart skip a beat.
“It’s a double bed,” he says, “we could just…” The living room is toasty warm due to the fire, that’s why your cheeks feel hot. Because of the fire. Maybe if you tell yourself that enough times, you will start to believe it.
After some more back and forth on the subject of who deserves to sleep where, you end up in bed together. Mike is clearly more relaxed about the whole thing than you are; you’ve maneuvered yourself as closely to the edge of the bed as possible.
“Would you relax?” Mike chuckles behind you. “We’ve known each other for, what? Fifteen years?” Yeah, that sounds about right.
“But you’re Bianca’s stupid older brother,” you say – out loud, what is wrong with you?
“Yeah, I am,” he admits, “which is exactly why you don’t have to be so… uptight, right now.” Is that his way of saying nothing is going to happen? And why does that sting so bad, for crying out loud? You turn around, so you’re facing him, and if it weren’t for Mike’s incredible reflexes, you’d have fallen out of bed.
“Thanks,” you mutter. “Can I ask you something?” It’s a stupid question; you can always ask Mike anything, you always could.
“Why are you so glad Ryan bailed on me?” Mike laughs when he hears your question, and sighs. As far as Mike is concerned, Ryan isn’t the right guy for you. He’s too much of a player.
“Takes one to know one, right?” you throw back at him.
“Yeah. Well... I don’t have a double-digit body count, he does.” Mike growls. “There’s… some… overlap. Y’know, between the girls he… and the ones I… The… reviews aren’t good, okay. And… And I just don’t want him near you.” The way he’s shy, talking about this all of a sudden, it’s so cute it melts your brain. Thinking Straight? We don’t know her.
“So, what? You’re saying you’d be a better option?” That stupid, stupid, big fucking mouth of yours… You never should have come here. You never should have agreed to sleep in the same bed. All of this could have been avoided if only you’d used your dumb brain. Apparently, Mike disagrees, because he moves closer, pulling you in as he does, until you’re flush against his body.
“I’m saying great white shark would be a better option,” he whispers. He’s so close now that you can feel his breath on your cheeks.
“I feel you’re a step up from a great white,” you mutter, “maybe even more than one.” Where is this coming from? Are you flirting with him? You’re comparing him to a shark. That can’t be flirting – or at the very m it’s incredibly poor flirting. But he’s the one who brought up the shark thing. Maybe neither of you are very good at this?
Mike laughs and mutters a ‘thank you’.
“Turn around, Sweetcheeks,” he says softly, and you hum a sort of question that he seems to understand. “Let me snug up to you, keep you warm tonight, okay?”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Mikey,” you whisper, shifting uncomfortably. When Mike wrapped you into that hug, you didn’t notice his hand: It’s dangerously close to your ass. Strong fingers flex against you, digging into you, making you shiver. Your own arm, which has been pushing against his shoulder up until now, slides to his back, and you lean your head against his chest.
For a few minutes, you just rake your fingers over his back while he does the same to you, pulling each other closer as you go. It’s tough to ignore the erection pressing into your thigh, so you don’t bother. It’s not as if you’re doing anything wrong. Besides, you can still stop this. As long as you don’t turn your face to his, nothing more has to happen. Then why the fuck do you turn your head?
It’s no use trying to figure out who kissed who first, but from the moment his lips touch yours, you’re lost in him. A soft first kiss soon turns intense and demanding. Mike has a very eager tongue – you should have seen that coming – and is completely incapable of keeping his hands in decent places. All you hear are the moans that escape you both, and the sound of your blood rushing in your ears. You clench your thighs every time Mike grinds his hips into you. Should you be this wet? It’s not just from this, but from everything. The hugs by the fire. Small touches while playing games. The way his hand briefly brushed past your thigh when... God, you forgot what he was even doing when that happened, but just the thought of the way his fingers caressed your skin fuels the fire inside you.
He rolls on top of you, the weight of his body making you gasp, and you make room for him between your legs. If there was still a way back, it’s definitely gone now that his cock is pressed against your pussy. You even wrap your legs around him and pull him closer. Mike chuckles under his breath, bringing up insecurities you didn’t know you had.
“What?” You ask timidly. Mike smirks at you and leans his forehead against yours.
“You’re cute like this,” he says. There’s something gravelly in his voice that seems to vibrate throughout your body.
“Like what?” You surprise yourself with how steady your voice is.
“Horny,” Mike answers plainly. You should have expected bluntness – it’s Mikey, after all – but you didn’t, and now you have nothing else to say. He smirks at you as he lies next to you again. “Bet you’re wet as fuck, too, huh?”
“Mikey!” You slap him on the shoulder and try to turn away, but he holds you firmly in place.
“Oh no, Sweetcheeks,” he says, “you’re not going anywhere.” Hearing the need in his voice sends shivers all through your body. You squirm in his arms in desperation, your cheeks hot with embarrassment because of what he said, but there’s no part of you that even considers actually trying to get away from him. You like this coy little cat and mouse game. Mike’s hand travels down your stomach and into your pajama pants and underwear without hesitation. His eagerness startles you – so does the fact that you don’t try to stop him.
One of his fingers slips between your folds, and he smirks.
“Goddamn, Sweetcheeks,” he says before kissing your neck. You moan when the stubble on his jaw scratches your skin. Suddenly, a memory makes you laugh. Mike quirks an eyebrow as his fingers retreat slightly – you can’t blame him; this is not an appropriate time to laugh.
“I’m sorry,” you chuckle, “memories.”
“Of that time you made me cut my face while shaving?” Pff! Lucky guess! Your eyes confirm his suspicion, and he chuckles, too. “My date that night felt really bad for me, so thanks, I guess.”
“What even startled you?” He’d seen you barge into the bathroom he and Bianca shared countless times at that point, so what was different that time?
“You and Bibi had just gotten back from summer camp; I hadn’t seen you in a few months and...” His voice trails off and he doesn’t seem prepared to keep talking. No dice.
“And what?” you continue your interrogation. “What changed.”
“God, Sweetcheeks, don’t make me say it! I’m gonna sound like such a perv!” He tries to bury his head in your neck, but you push back. All of a sudden, you realize the hand he had stashed in your pants, has moved to your ass. Mike groans, because he realizes you’re really going to make him answer. “You left for camp, like... Flat. And you came back kinda, sorta... fully equipped.”
“You cut yourself shaving because you were checking out my rack?” Fucking unbelievable. No, actually, scratch that. Completely believable. You laugh when you see the monstrously guilty look on his face. Mike really looks like a kid who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
“I actually cut myself because I turned my head to look away.” Oh. Well... Mike picks up on your confusion somehow. “They were nice. But also attached to my sister’s best friend.”
“And now you’re feeling me up in my dad’s cabin in the woods.”
“A dream come true,” he laughs. Does he mean it? From the looks of it... “I mean it. I’ve had a bit of a crush on you for years.”
You can’t believe your ears! Mikey has a crush on you?
“I wish I could say the same, but I thought you were fucking annoying until a few hours ago,” you say without thinking.
Mike grins ear to ear. “Right.”
“I’m serious!” You are! You really are serious! Someone can be both annoying and hot, right?
“I believe you,” he says as he pulls you closer. “I also believe you’re more than a little hot for me now.”
He’s right – obviously. Your body is on fire, heart racing, butterflies fluttering in your stomach – all because of him. His lips on your neck confirm it, his hand squeezing your ass, slowly moving back around to work its way between your legs, his breath on your ear as he softly moans when he slips two fingers into your pussy. You want to fuck him. End of story.
“Goddamn, Sweetcheeks,” he moans into your mouth, “I might lose my patience over this juicy pussy.”
“What patience?” you tease. Mike never had much to begin with, and to be perfectly honest, yours has taken a hit to the point where you’re almost begging him to take you. His fingers slip out of you and find your clit. It’s almost impossible to focus on what his hands are doing while his cock is still pushing into your thigh, but at the same time, the way those fingers move, drawing tight circles around your swollen, sensitive little pearl consumes every fiber of your body.
“Don’t tempt me, please,” Mike groans into your ear, “I wanna do this right. You finish first.” Somehow, it never occurred to you that he’s actually trying to make you come. You give his hand the slightest nudge to the side, holding your breath for the reaction that move usually gets you, but it doesn’t happen. He just takes the advice and keeps going.
From then on, practically the only words out of your mouth are ‘fuck’ and ‘oh God’ as he works you up to your climax with surprising ease. He chuckles softly, as if he’s as surprised as you are – and in all honesty: he probably is. It takes you some time to notice the way he’s grinding his hips into your side, and you turn in his arms, forcing him to pull his hand away from your oversensitive clit. Following a deep breath, your hand trails his chest and stomach until it rests on the bulge in his pyjama pants. A cocky – pun not intended – grin appears on his face when he watches you bite your lower lip. He’s big – bigger than you’re used to, anyway. With your free hand, you push the hem of his t-shirt up until he takes over and pulls it over his head. He moans when you lick and kiss his neck, but to your surprise, he stops you when you move further down.
“Have at it if you wanna,” he says shyly, “but only if you want to. I don’t... I won’t return the favor, just... So we’re clear on that.” You’re not sure whether you’re imagining things, or if the pitch of his voice climbs as you make your way down his chest and stomach, leaving a few love bites here and there, listening to Mike groan and feeling him squirm in anticipation as if he’s never had a blowjob before in his life. He sits up, giving you more room to get as comfortable as possible, and leans back against his pillow with an impatient smirk.
You can’t suppress a chuckle when you pull Mike’s pants down and his cock springs free. It’s the way it just... moves that makes you laugh. Mike fakes looking offended and then laughs too, only to stop abruptly when your tongue touches the tip of his cock.
Teasing a guy is easy. Find out what he likes from a shockingly long list of maybe three whole things, and then do that so very lightly that he wants to grab your hair and slam his dick down your throat. Or so you’ve been told. Ryan was too impatient for you to ever try it out, but Mikey seems like a very willing victim. Every time he squirms or moans, or his leg twitches when you change your approach, you laugh softly. His fingers tangled in your hair, and he gently guides you further down onto his cock. He looks down at you and smiles like an idiot.
“Fuck, Sweetcheeks! I don’t know if this is a really good blowjob, or it’s just been a while but...” He stops talking – which is probably for the best. You lose any and all interest in his dick and sit up again.
“Mike,” you try to sound stern, but he looks so mortified that you can’t help but laugh, “what the fuck?”
“In my defense,” he says awkwardly, “there was a really pretty girl sucking my cock, therefore I wasn’t thinking. Like, at all.”
You crawl up until you’re straddling his lap and wrap your arms around his neck. Mike rests his hands on your hips and squeezes you lightly as he leans in to kiss you again. His lips all but force yours apart in their enthusiasm, and he slips his tongue into your mouth as soon as he can. Somehow, it’s the boyish impatience in everything he does that makes you fall for him even harder. It’s the eager kiss, those hands that can’t seem to be still for even a second, the moans that turn into whines whenever you move your hips…
“I can’t wait anymore,” Mike pants when he breaks your kiss, “I want you.”
Part of you wants to tell him to stop, that you don’t want him, that this was a mistake – but that part of you is a liar. You’ve wanted this for years, even Bianca knows that. She never said anything about it, and you never pushed it because Mike is her brother, and you always thought it would be super weird, but you’re never getting this chance again, and if you don’t go for it, you know you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. That realization makes it all the more painful when Mike stops his exploration of your neck and chest and looks at you for a long moment – a very long moment.
“Are you sure about this?” he finally asks, and only then are you able to exhale that breath you were holding in without even noticing.
“Yes,” you say after swallowing the lump in your throat away.
“And because you’re so sure about this and ready for it,” Mike continues, “you remembered to bring protection, of course?”
Jackass. You roll your eyes at him and make sure to grind your ass against his cock extra hard when you get up to grab your bag. Normally, you couldn’t throw anything to save your life, but now, the small box of condoms hits Mike right in the… palm of his hand. Because he can actually catch things, as it turns out. Too bad, you were aiming for his face.
The room is pretty cold, and even though Mike never actually took any clothing off you, you’re freezing. All you want is to get back under the covers with him, but you can’t seem to move. Mike tosses the box onto the nightstand and throws the covers back by means of an invitation while he finishes getting naked. It takes a goofy smile and his reaching out his hand for you to finally move closer to the bed again.
“I’m nervous,” you say softly as you crawl into his arms. He squeezes you, it’s lovely. He’s not buff, but he’s stronger than he looks, and it’s very reassuring.
“So am I,” he says to your surprise. Your face must have asked the question for you, because he continues: “I want it to be good for you. Not that I normally don’t… Oh, fuck, never mind. I just want to make sure you have a nice first time.”
Mike slips his hands back underneath the fabric of your pajama shirt, only this time, he lifts it so he can pull it off you. Those hands may have wandered everywhere, but his eyes haven’t, and it makes you insecure until you see the look on his face. The hasty, sloppy kisses to your neck and shoulders are almost a form of keeping decorum, a way to pretend he doesn’t want to go straight for your chest, but he still makes it there within seconds. When he explored the rest of your body, his focus was fleeting – exactly what you were used to from him, because that’s exactly what he always does with everything. Now, however, he shows a level of commitment and dedication you’ve never seen in him. His lips wrap around one of your nipples, and you shriek when he sucks softly. The feeling itself is amazing, but the sounds that Mike lets out are even better. There’s absolutely no doubt in your mind that he loves what he’s seeing – although, at the moment, you doubt he’s seeing much to begin with, because his head is buried against your chest.
“Mikey!” you hiss when he gently bites down on your nipple. That finally gets him to let go of your breasts and kiss you again.
“Sorry,” he says when he breaks away again, “you have awesome boobs.”
As he kisses you again, he pushes your pants down your legs. Despite the nerves that still gnaw on your insides a little, you help him. For a while, it’s relatively easy to calm those pesky jitters down a little, until Mike reaches for the box on the nightstand.
“Are you sure about this?” Mike asks as he positions himself between your legs after putting a condom on. The tip of his cock pushes at your entrance in the most teasing way. When you nod, Mike kisses you softly before he pushes into you. He goes slow, and he’s really gentle, but you still wince.
“Whoa!” Mike stops moving as soon as he hears you hiss softly while your face scrunches up from the pain. “Relax, okay? Take a deep breath.” You do as he tells you, breath catching in your throat as he slides into your core further – this time it feels amazing, and you can’t stop yourself from moaning loudly. Mike chuckles when he hears you.
“Good?” His voice is strained, as if he’s having trouble behaving – and knowing him, he does. You nod again, unable to speak, overwhelmed by the new sensations in your body. When Mike moves his hips, you gasp. His movements are slow and shallow at first, but once he realizes you can take him, they become deeper, faster and more enthusiastic.
“Oh my god, Mikey!” you squeal when he hits a good spot inside you. Your fingers find their way into his curls, and you pull him down to kiss him.
“Feels so good,” you mumble against his lips. Mike’s lips pull into a grin, you can feel it.
“Fuck,” he hisses. His hips slow, but he doesn’t stop. Still, it makes you sad, because – and you can’t believe you’re actually having this thought – you want him to pound you.
“Don’t stop,” you whine, and you give Mike a pouting look.
“Hey, this is hard work!” Mike says quasi-offended. You both laugh – it feels strange, with him still inside you. When you stop, he looks at you in earnest. “Besides, I don't want this to be over yet.” He continues his slow tempo for a while, as he keeps kissing your neck, your chest, circling your nipples with his tongue, rolling the sensitive little buds between his fingers, making you squirm in every possible way until you’re almost begging him to fuck you hard again.
Suddenly, Mike lowers his head until his lips are right next to your ear. “Ready?” he whispers, but he doesn’t wait for an answer. His grip on your hip tightens, and his other hand crosses your back to grab your shoulder. Mike holds you tight as he slams his hips into you, leaving you breathless. He’s rough, not to the point where it hurts, but definitely approaching that edge. It feels amazing. You wrap your legs around his waist and close your eyes as your head falls back. A few harsh thrusts make you shriek. Mike hides his groaning in your neck before collapsing on top of you.
You whine when he pulls out, your walls suddenly clenching around nothing again. It’s a strange sensation after what you just experienced. Empty. Lonely. It gets even worse when Mike gets up.
“I’ll be right back.” Somehow, it’s not very reassuring. You curl up under the covers, fighting back tears. How could you sleep with your best friend’s stupid brother? Bianca will never forgive you…
“Whoa! Are you alright, Sweetcheeks?” Mike crawls into the bed behind you and wraps his arms around you.
“Bianca is going to kill me,” you say. Mike laughs, which annoys you. A lot. “Mikey, it’s not funny! She’s my best friend and you’re her brother!”
“Sweetcheeks,” Mike says, “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, okay? Just come here, let’s go to sleep.” He pulls you into his arms, and for a moment – one that happens to last until the next morning – everything is perfect.
You wake up to twelve missed calls from Bianca and several text messages, the last of which reads ‘I know – I hope… – you’re busy licking my brother but call me back, maybe?’
