His betrothed. (P4)
Barty Crouch x reader
Summary: The Marauders comfort the reader after the incident with Barty.

Part 1!

..................................................
Y/N ran to the Common Room in tears.
Barty was cheating on her?
Her heart was in shambles.
Maybe James was right and she was a fool to believe that the Death Eater could possibly love her enough to marry her.
Her thoughts were paused as she ran into a wall.
Not a wall.
James Potter himself.
Speak of the devil.
She looked up at him at met his eyes.
He immediately sighed in an annoyed manner, "What's wrong?"
She opened her mouth, but only sobs came out.
"Oh, Dove…" He immediately dropped his facade and held her close to him.
Remus rushed down the stairs at the sound of her sobs. "Thank Merlin! There you are."
James glared at Remus.
It's obvious that the fight with James was still ongoing.
She sniffled, "Where's… where's Siri?"
Remus smiled, "He was looking for you. Regulus was as well."
James frowned, "Why? What the hell is going on?"
Sirius entered the Common Room. His hair was awry and he was out of breath but he pleaded, "Oh, Y/N. I… I'm so sorry. I'm sorry."
She buried her face in James' chest and sobbed harder.
James was stiff. He had never really had a sister, so comforting the youngest Black sibling was still foreign to him.
Sirius sighed, "'m sorry to you, too, James. I… I shouldn't have been so harsh with you. You were just trying to protect her."
James scoffed. He pulled Y/N's head back just slightly to wipe her tear-stained cheeks with his thumbs, "I accept, Pads, but I still don't know what the hell is going on."
"Right," Sirius realized, "Well… Regulus and Crouch had gotten into a fight this morning and I guess-"
Y/N pulled away from James and quickly walked past the boys to go to her room.
She felt like she already knew enough that she didn't need to hear it be said aloud.
But Remus caught her arm gently. His voice was low as he bent his torso down just slightly to talk to her, "Dove? How can I help?"
She shook her head. "I don't.. there's… there's nothing to do."
He smiles, "How about I come get you in an hour or two for lunch? I can at least make sure you get fed."
Sirius jumps in, "Actually, dear sister, Regulus must speak with you."
She shook her head, "I have nothing to say to him."
He leaned back slightly, "Y/N, listen. It's important."
"Is he going to rub it in my face?"
"Wh…what? You think so little of our brother that he would gloat in his sister's unhappiness?"
She shrugged, "I… I don't know."
He gently took her shoulders, leading her to the Common Room door, "He's waiting for you outside. Just hear him out, alright?"
She sighed, knowing she couldn't fight them.
She loved her brothers more than life itself, but man, could they be pains in the ass.
Sirius planted a loving kiss on the top of her head and gently pushed her out of the room, closing the painting swiftly.
Regulus held a forced smiled to his lips, "Hi, sister."
She pulled her arms around herself, "Reg."
"Alright," he immediately started, "There's an entirely reasonable explanation for everything that happened today. Just… ugh…"
"Regulus, I won't forgive this. There's nothing you can say that would make this better. If Barty loved me, he would show it."
"That's the thing," he sighed. "Barty and I got into a fight this morning-"
"-Yes, that's all anyone will talk about!" She scoffed.
"Andromeda has had a crush on his for a while now. I just… she was trying to flirt with him all day yesterday. I told him this morning that he needs to make sure he doesn't give her the wrong idea. He… he told me I was crazy, and that he only has eyes for you. I believe him, of course, but still…
"Anyway, so later after my morning class, I go back to our dorm. There's a card on Barty's bed. It's from Andromeda."
She finally interrupts him, "I still don't get it."
"Let me finish!" He barked. His face dropped, "I'm sorry. Just let me finish."
She nodded with wide eyes.
"Barty opened the card and Andromeda had bewitched it to blow a love potion. He breathed it in."
Y/N had never felt more foolish in her life.
That look Barty had given her when she caught them should've told her all of this on its own.
He looked so regretful, even though his body was telling him to love Andromeda.
His mind still rebelled to love her.
She pondered this for a while before mentally coming back to Regulus, "Why isn't he here?"
"He's in the Hospital Wing getting treated."
She nodded, "Thank you, Reg."
He smiled, "Least I could do for you. But, please, go get a coat or something before you go see him. It's too cold in the castle for you to not have a jumper."
Y/N smiled, "I will. Bye, Reg."
She opened the Gryffindor painting and disappeared behind it.
James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter had apparently all made up in the time she was gone.
Or at least she assumed so by the way they were all sprawled out on the large couch of the Common Room.
Remus noticed her first, standing with a smile, "Is everything alright now?"
She smiled and nodded, "Yes, Regulus explained everything."
A seemingly collective sigh broke out from the boys.
Sirius let out a laugh, "If it helps, Regulus said he had a serious talk with Andromeda."
"Regulus did?" She asked.
He nodded.
James stood up hesitantly and walked to her small frame. "Listen, dove. I… I was wrong about what I said. I want to protect you, but that's no excuse to speak to you how I did. Will you forgive me?"
She smiled and hugged him tightly. Her voice was muffled against his chest, "Ah aways fowgive ew, Wrongs."
He laughed and pulled her closer, placing a brotherly kiss on her forehead.
The poor boy was already stringing pleads together to make barely understood sentences, "I'm sorry I was a fool and I opened the bloody card. I fought with your brother so much about it and I should have known better. You never deserve this and I don't think anything I do will suffice as an apology so all I can do is hope that you will think of something for me to do to let you forgive me."
She stood at the foot of the hospital cot with a sympathetic gaze, "You mean that?"
Barty smiled, "Oh, love. I swear to you. Please. I can't describe what I felt when you found us in the library."
Y/N nodded. "I… I forgive you."
"No, love." He persisted, "Don't let it go so easily. I'll make it up to you. What can I do?"
She looks up at the ceiling in thought. "A date. A real date. On the Hogsmeade trip?"
He smiled, "That's nothing. Consider it done. What else?"
She smirked, "Carry my books to class this week?"
"Two weeks." He smiled.
She nodded, "Two weeks."
"Alright. What else?"
She shrugged, "I don't know, Barty. Honestly, I forgive you."
He sits up and leans forward, "Let me earn your trust back."
She hesitates, then nods, "Alright."
He swings his legs around and gets out of the cot. He takes a few steps towards her, "Thank you, Y/N."
His hands rubs up and down her arms as his body pulls her closer.
The proximity makes her catch her breath, "f… for what?"
He smiled, feeling his lips almost brush hers, "For letting me kiss you."
Her face turned red, "What, Barty-"
His lips gently meet hers, giving her a minute to pull away if she wanted to.
But she didn't want to at all.
Her arms wrap around his neck, letting one of her hands wander into his hair and pull him closer.
He sighed in the kiss happily but pulled away. His breath was quick and his eyes filled with lust, "I've wanted to do that for so long."

Cupids fourteen Love Stories

Y/n placed the beautiful heart shaped picnic basket she had previously purchased for this specific occasion. The girls had been planning this picnic for months now, making them buy an unhealthy amount of things to make the picnic as cute as possible.
Marlene had placed a big red silk blanket on the grass while the others placed the food and bags they brought just to avoid them getting away. Lily had placed in the middle the charcuterie board she had spent all night preparing while Marlene took out the glasses and champagne from the picnic basket.
Mary took out the heart shaped red velvet cake she had baked with the words Men suck on top while Dorcas took out from her tote bag the chocolate covered strawberries.
“You know I’m glad we finally decided to do this! I needed a day out for us” Lily said while taking a bite of the chocolate covered strawberries. She quickly closed her eyes, savoring the taste. Marlene rolled her eyes playfully at her antics while serving herself a bit of champagne.
“I think this is our best galentine's day yet, nothing can ruin our cute little picnic” before Y/n could keep talking about big raindrops starting pouring out. The girls groaned trying to save the things they had as fast as they could but it was too late because the food was already covered in water.
“We can never win,” Marlene responded, turning to the girls, her hair covering her face. The other girls were drenching in water looking pretty similar to Marlene.
“Well, Galentine's day is ruined. Better luck next year” Mary responded but before they could do anything. The rain suddenly stopped. Y/n looked up to see the guys holding umbrellas around them.
“Wait, what are you guys doing here?” Marlene asked, looking at Sirius.
“No thank you? Never saving you again” Sirius responded sarcastically while looking at her.
“Sorry, I’m grateful that you guys are here but how did you guys know we were here” Marlene responded looking all around the group
“ Y/n had told me you guys were doing your picnics here and when I noticed it was going to rain I decided to come here to pick you guys off before it rained. Guess we were a little too late” James responded holding an umbrella for Y/n.
“You think?” Lily responded sarcastically but after noticing how harsh she sounded she quickly muttered an apology.
“We appreciate you guys saving us! By the looks of it, it won’t stop raining. So we should just pack our things and go back” Y/n responded while kneeling down to pick what couldn’t be trown away.
“Actually we have a plan b for you girls” Remus said pointing towards a big tent a few feet away from them.
“Don’t be shy! It’s not a picnic but we tried our best, so you girls go while we clean here. Enjoy your galentines” James responded while the girl quickly ran toward the tall tent. When they entered they noticed the beautifully decorated table that was adorned with lots of flowers. The decorations were all around, red and pink covering the areas. Marlene quickly grinned looking at the girls.
“What are we waiting for?! You heard them, let's enjoy galentine's day!” Marlene picked up a glass of champagne making the girls follow her actions.
“To Galentine's day” she said while raising her glass.
“To galentine's day!” All them said loudly clinking their glasses.
Request are open, xoxo

Sirius finds his way to the astronomy tower sometime in seventh year. He and Remus fought, and he thinks it might be over this time.
He screams into the night and throws a bottle of Fire Whiskey over the edge. He doesn’t hear it shatter. He starts to cry then. Blacks don’t cry! He hears in a voice that sounds like his mother’s. The black family madness is finally catching up, he thinks as silent tears keep running down his cheeks. He wasn’t a loud crier. He could never afford to be.
He sits down on the edge with his feet dangling over and pats all of his pockets for a cigarette. He had loaned them to Remus. Sirius lets out a harsh laugh and instead begins twisting one of the rings on his finger, watching as the tears drip onto his jeans.
He looks up as he feels a presence next to him. It’s Reggie. “Fuck off, Reg.” His heart isn’t in it.
Regulus says nothing as he holds out a pack of smokes, no filter and definitely muggle.
Sirius takes one and lights it with a snap of his fingers. It was a wandless magic trick he’d perfected in fourth year, partly to impress Remus and partly to show off for girls. “What would mother dearest say if she knew her perfect little Regulus was smoking muggle cigs?”
Reggie shrugs. “I don’t give a shit about the politics.”
“Why, then?”
“You know why, Sirius,” he says, lighting his own cigarette and taking a drag.
Sirius has so much he wants to ask his brother, so many questions running through his head that he may never have the chance to ask again. “Can I see it?” he asks instead. He knows, on some deep level that Regulus had taken the Mark. He can’t bring himself to believe it, not unless he sees it.
“You don’t want to,” Reggie replies. Sirius looks over at him, his vision still blurry from the tears, and he looks young again. He looks like he did when they were both kids, before Hogwarts and before the threat of the war loomed so closely overhead, like a executioner’s axe. The tears fall, and his vision clears enough, and the boy before him is Regulus Arcturus Black, heir to the House of Black. He looks more tired than he should, at only sixteen. He looks worn out and exhausted.
“They could protect you, Reg. I could—”
Reg scoffs. “It’s too late for me, Sirius. I’m going to die, and it’s going to be for nothing.” Regulus blinks, then, and seems to realize what he’s said. “Goodnight, Sirius.” He walks away. Sirius wants to call him back. To make him stop, wait, stay, but he stays quiet. He gets the feeling that this is the last conversation he’ll ever have with Reggie, but he ignores it. He stays out until sunrise, and, as he turns to leave in the early morning light, Sirius sees a pack of cigarettes, left for him by his brother.
He puts them in his jacket pocket and forgets about them.
* * *
Sirius sits at the top of the astronomy tower, a bottle of Fire Whiskey in hand. School’s out for the summer. Lily and James are in hiding, and Sirius isn’t the secret keeper. It’s Peter. It should be Remus, but he doesn’t know if they can trust Remus. He doesn’t know who he can trust, other than James. He doesn’t even trust Dumbledore, and isn’t that something.
He’s wearing the old leather jacket that he’d forgotten in the castle sometime at the end of seventh year. He absentmindedly pulls out a pack of smokes and lights one, inhaling the unfamiliar brand and coughing a bit at the taste. He looks down at the carton. They’re Reggie’s cigarettes.
He looks up at the sky and finds him up there, the heart of the lion. “It’s you and me again, isn’t it. I guess I can trust you, huh? You’re dead. You can’t tell anyone about James and Lily. I know you always hated him. Hell you might’ve liked him, if you gave him a chance. They had a kid, you know? He’s almost one. Cutest little fucker. Looks just like his dad, expect for the eyes. I bet he could even make you smile. Right little seeker there in the making, you’d think it was so cute. Or maybe you’d just murder him because of Lily’s parents. Or just because your ‘lord’ said so. Cause that’s what you did, right? He said jump and you asked how fucking high.”
Sirius takes a drink and a few more drags of the cigarette. He’s quiet for a while, and it feels like he’s waiting for something that will never come.
“Did it mean anything?” he finally asks. “You said it wouldn’t mean anything, so why’d you let it happen? You know what, fuck you, Reggie. Fuck you! Fuck you for staying in that place and fuck you for dying! Fuck you for being just like them! Fuck you for letting them do that! Fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck you!” Sirius was screaming by the end, just like Mother, says a voice that sounds a lot like Regulus. Sirius doesn’t throw the bottle, this time, but it’s a near thing. “Why, Reggie? Why’d you let them kill you?” Sirius whispers, Why’d I let them kill you? he doesn’t.
He watches as Regulus disappears behind the horizon. “I’m sorry, Reggie,” he whispers to the night sky, hoping that somewhere Regulus can hear him and praying at the same time that he can’t. He puts the cigarettes back in his pocket, and, later, when he’s the only soul left awake, he takes the passage to Hogsmeade and Apparating first to London, then to the English coast, then as to near the small Black cottage on the coast of France as he could get without tripping any alarms. It was a place where he and Reg had been allowed to spend summers sometimes, away from Orion and Walburga. It was Reggie’s favorite place when they were kids, and he used to love splashing in the waves. He’d always been a good swimmer. Sirius tosses the pack of cigarettes into the waves. There’d never been a body they could bury, so this is the best he can do, to lay Reggie to rest. The family had a funeral, but Sirius doubted Reggie would’ve liked it. He wouldn’t want to be stuck in the Black Family Mausoleum, no matter what he’d done for the Dark Lord. Sirius hopes Reggie’s free. He watches the cigarettes sink and thinks about staying in France. Leaving the war behind. Taking Lily and James and Remus and running far away from the Dark Lord. Instead, he takes one last look at the ocean and whispers “goodbye, Reggie,” as he Apparates away.

Fleer
Summary: On a day hanging out in town, Janus Remus and Virgil get harrassed by the same person multiple times. Eventually Janus decides to give them some new thoughts.
Authors Notes: The prompt I wrote myself for today was "Janus needs to fleer in a story, and leave with a geck too" According to An Emotion Dictionary a Fleer is "To mock; to smile snidely" and to geck is "to scoff: to flounce off" I did what I could to describe the action enough to be understood while writing but guessed actually including them in my notes would be helpful.
Warnings: Homophobia and Harrassment
/\/\
Speaking their mind was normal to Janus. They would do so at will, quite randomly, and usually do their best to ensure nobody around them knew if it was their true opinion or one echoed in order to gain something.
Today Janus didn't mind if their friends understood what they truly meant. What they cared about was if the asshole who'd kept running into them, insulting and threatening them felt insulted.
He'd started the first time they passed, noticing the rainbow sash that Remus had insisted on wearing, yelling a slur, but nothing more as their group headed into a shop. Janus hadn't cared then; Remus was laughing it off, and saying that he'd pass the compliments on to his brother when Roman demanded the sash was returned.
Then, after Virgil had caught up to them and insisted on dragging them into the music store; the jerk was there again. He'd followed them around the store, loudly declaring that he'd never listen to gay bands, and was making a list of who to avoid.
Remus had responded by that, going around the store to get all the most popular artists latest CD's, following the nods Janus made whenever the guy muttered about some specific artist would never support or be liked by the gays. They were fairly sure the guy would have to completely change his music taste if he really were to stop listening to every artist Remus brought a CD of that day, also that the likelihood of the card Remus was using to pay actually being his was lower than 0%.
After that shop they'd deliberately waited until the git had left and headed in the opposite direction, now without any distinct goals for their afternoon in mind they could go wherever they wanted.
Unfortunately, apparently the same angry moron turned up when they decided to indulge in some of histories horrors at the museum, and this time Janus had had enough.
“Yeah, come to hear about how dead you all should be.” The guy yelled over at them as soon as they moved into the art gallery that had been there for years, just rearranged over the time.
Janus fleered, back straightened, and eyes judging. “Actually we're learning about how much better the world is because of trans people. Perhaps you could do with paying attention to the exhibits here.” They stated, gesturing vaguely to the room before this.
“Yeah right. You a blight on humanity-” The guy attempted to counter, but they didn't let him.
“Who are part of the community responsible for computers as they are today. Completely responsible for numerous works of classic literature, and indubitably better citizens than a hate-filled, useless, layabout who hasn't done anything with this day and doubtless many more beyond criticising strangers.” The sneer widened on their face, and a glance at Virgil made them realise how empty their gaze must be. He always stepped further back if their gaze was too harsh.
The asshole was gaping, clearly trying to formulate another insult. “Don't stress yourself. I know you only have slurs in that brain of yours, nothing original worth hearing at all. Now we've got to carry on to learn about the queer influences on Theatre. I've heard there's some unmissable revelations about Shakespeare in the exhibit.” They turned with a flounce.
Janus tugged Remus and Virgil off with them. “Honestly, even the harassment nowadays is mediocre.” They mocked.

(Hi, me again)
Hello it is I! A flying magic dude here to solve all your problems and make all your decisions. No but seriously, they both sound really cool. I’ll use my infinite wisdom to come up with a plan to ensure that you have the better excursion.
*sound of coin flipping*
Your going to the zoo! Although the aquarium also sounds good so I’d recommend going there some other time.
Also about hormones, I could probably summon some up for you. Pills for Remy and presumably injections for Remus if you struggle to take pills? Although I definitely agree that you should have someone make sure that it won’t be harmful to you in some way.
When you figure it out let me or one of the other Watchers know and we can conjure up some for you.
Glow Eyes
(Good choice. If they went to the aquarium there was a chance they'd meet Os since he works there)
A week passed before Remy had recovered enough to be able to leave the apartment. Since they were staying at Janus' apartment and he was still working full time they got a lot of alone time.
Mostly they laid on the couch and stared up at the ceiling while music loud enough to hopefully blast away their thoughts played in their headphones. Dozens of hours of Britney, Charli and Gaga was working against their thoughts constantly lingering in harsh memories. Even while Remy was distracted the memories of bruises and screams hung like a shadow over them.
The only time it subsided somewhat was when Janus was home. Even though it made Remy nauseous the amount of times memories of Virgil flashed behind their eyes when they kissed him.
Every now and again a bored snail demon took a break from haunting Oswald to come over and pull Remy into a make over or a seated version of just dance.
When they finally felt well enough to go the zoo Remus pulled up as soon as he could after forcing Logan along since he had anticipated the zoo visit just as much as them. He practically threw Remy into Logan's car while chattering on about a bear (!) having been moved to the local zoo,
As soon as Logan had started to drive Remus excitedly began with "Sooooo about those hooormones" He turned to Remy who was sitting in the back seat and explained "I texted Logie about the hormones thingy a few days ago"
"I've attempted to find information to the best of my abilities but as you can guess my expertise lies more so in estrogen because of experiences with Patty. My wife. My wife Patty. But I have read through a few papers about testosteron and tried to find information about how hormones can affect fibromyalgia"
"Aaaaannnddd?"
"Do either of you have any underlying problems or known generational problems with blood pressure or heart diseases?"
Remus and Remy glanced at each other before both shaking their head.
"Good. That lowers a lot of potential risks" Logan took a turn by a sign that pointed towards the zoo before continuing "And as far as the fibromyalgia is concerned I found nothing to indicate hormone treatment could worsen it. Though it is probably good to start with a smaller dose to be sure"
"I don't want like a full dose anyway. I wanna be like fem but not like fully like I wanna be a 90's model with such a thin fucking frame no one can tell if she even got like boobs. That kinda fem"
"Right" Logan drove into the zoo's parking lot and looked for a space close to the entrance so Remy wouldn't have to walk too far "I am sure the two of you are aware of the consequences of hormones more than I so I assume I won't have to ask about that. Unlike certain doctors I trust in full grown adult's abilities to decide if they accept how hormones will change them or not"
"Hehe. Sneaky surprise penis" Remus chuckled while rubbing his hands together like a villain.
The car stopped and Logan turned to look at the two of them while fixing with his glasses "Well then I see no dangers of going on hormones. Do you?"
"Not really. Maybe I'll get Too sexy and the earth will blow up though. Just a warning"
"Nah girl"
"Happy hormones to you then" Logan said with a slight smile.
Remus let up into a grin while flapping his arms around "I am feeling like an entire flock of fresh cows being released into the grass after a long winter!!!" He gasped "I'M GONNA GET TO USE A SYRINGE EVERY DAY!! I'M GONNA LIVE MY MAD SCIENTIST FANTASY!!"
"You'd think the floaty thingies could like get it to us today even? Like once we get home?" Remy asked in a hushed tone while their feet quickly tapped into the ground out of excitement.
"YAYAYAY! For sure my beanie!! Or I'mma Float up there myself and get the hormones by force!!!"
"If you need any help with how to safely use the syringe I or Patty can help. Just so you are aware" Logan said while locking the car "Ready to see some spiders?" He asked his friend.
Remus was already eyeing the zoo's map to try and find the spider's house "Super fucking ready!! OH! Maybe we can get there during feeding time!!"
"That would be fascinating"
Logan and Remus were taking big strides towards the entrance while chatting about their latest notes on spiders. Remus looked back to see Remy stand lost in thought with a hesitant smile on their face, as if they couldn't quite believe that that conversation had just happened.
Remus lightly bonked his head against their shoulder to get their attention before taking their hand and intertwining their fingers. He felt their thumb run circles against his skin as they followed him to the entrance.

Never Met You
Chapter 6: Nostalgia
Memories can heal and hurt. They fill their lives and form their opinions and growth. They shall give themselves time to remember.
After the ambush, the castle had been under high alert. The king’s meetings had been reduced to a minimum and he was to stay in his own now heavily guarded wing. It had been a relief to hear Logan simply agree with Janus’s proposal. Unlike Roman, who was anything but happy with the measurements Janus, Green and Virgil himself had come up with, Logan had seen the reason behind it and was following their instructions as well as he could.
Now Virgil had time to rummage through the castle and check it from bottom to top. While Janus was coordinating the court, he had begun to search for possible breaches, questioning his way through the servants, guards and the workers in the courtyard. Janus had sent Green to go with him. Despite the short time Green had spent here he had made a few connections already and Virgil could use all the help he could get when he was talking to people.
Socializing was just not his thing. He was a guardian first and everything else second.
Right now, they were training though. Virgil had wanted to see how fit Green was and got pleasantly surprised by his ability to keep up with him. Not many could do so and it made it easier for Virgil to let him be close to Roman. It was hard for him to let anyone close to Roman these days. Especially, after the whole assassination attempt.
“Not, hah, as good, hah, as yours,” Green panted and leaned forward to catch his breath.
Virgil smirked and shoved him just when he straightened up. He stumbled, caught himself and giggled like a child before he shoved Virgil back. They continued nudging and shoving each other as they walked to the edge of the racetrack and sat down. Virgil had two water bottles taken with him, one for Green and one with a straw for himself. With no comment he shoved the straw under his shawl and drank as Green did the same.
“Is it very hot?” Green asked looking over the training grounds.
Virgil fiddled with the hem of his shawl and stared just in front of himself. He knew what Green was talking about.
“I’m used to it. I know how I have to breath that it doesn’t bother me. Also, the snake has made them give me one which is lighter and easier to breathe through. So, it’s fine.”
In the corner of his eye, he saw Green nod. He shifted and spawled his legs in front of him and leaned back. Something told Virgil that he had dropped the topic and he felt himself ease up a little. He never liked to talk about his face. It was just a sore topic.
To get himself into a better mind space, Virgil decided to focus on something else. Quietly he went through the last few days, over what he had seen and learnt. Frustratingly, not much had come to light about the intruders and all possible points of entry had been guarded thrice as much as before. There had been no new breaches but in the light of King George announcing he would hold a meeting with Logan in two weeks' time, it might only mean that they are waiting for the outcome of said meeting. Logan had invited him for the meeting and offered to meet him at the boarder but the King had insisted of coming to Theana and meeting Logan there in person. While that meant a lot of preparations and much more nightshifts for Janus, it lightened Virgil’s worries immensely. Like this he knew that there was top security with no intention of harming their king or prince.
Green shifted next to him, pusing one leg under his butt and leaning forwards as he looked down to the green grass. He let his hands run through the single blades and smiled.
Two days prior Virgil had seen him for the first time together with Patton. The boy had excitedly run up to him when they were questioning a farrier. The second when he had spotted Virgil, he had stopped and almost toppled over because of his sudden halt.
Virgil was used to the reaction; many people were scared of his appearance and he did not expect this little child to be any different. And yet, when Green called for him, the boy had come closer and had watched Virgil carefully. Shyly, he hid behind Green’s leg and gave him a curt wave.
“He’s not dangerous, kid. You can say hi,” Green said to him in a voice so warm it could have melted butter.
And to Virgil’s surprise the boy came out of hiding and actually said hi to him. And after he had said hi awkwardly back and almost died of pureness this kid radiated when he smiled at him, Green had praised Patton fondly for being so nice and brave with a stranger.
Virgil wasn’t quite sure if encouraging this kid to talk to strangers was a great idea, but at the same time he could see how much Green cared and how close this boy was to him. He talked and acted like a father around him and in Virgil’s mind that rised a few questions.
Green did look quite unassuming in his white tunic and the brown trousers but he had an air of strength and might around him, which was hardly deniable. And yet he gave himself as a simple man who just liked feeling the grass on his skin.
“You like to get dirty,” Virgil stated.
Green looked up and with no hesitation responded: “Oh honey, you haven’t seen anything dirty of me until you have seen me in bed.”
Immediately, Virgil swatted him in the arm and Green cackled loudly at the way the tips of Virgil’s ears flushed. He was close to simply get up and walk away but did not do so as the curiosity was too big. He really wanted to know what Green’s secrets might be.
“No, seriously now!” Virgil insisted and punched him again for good measure. “Why do you enjoy the ground work so much? Most soldiers don’t mind getting a bit dirty and all, but you seem to thrive in it.”
Green chuckled and scratched his chin. It was stubbly and the moustache didn’t look nearly as well kept and pristine anymore as it had when Virgil had met Green for the first time. And yet somehow Virgil found that the work seemed to make him look happier and more alive than before.
“It’s gonna sound strange to you,” Green admitted after a few moments while looking over the training court, “but I didn’t get to get messy all that often as a kid. I couldn’t go outside and sit in the grass or role around in the fields. I was – preoccupied with other things. So, this is like a second chance for me and I’m having the time of my life doing this, quite frankly.”
“Huh.”
“Yeah, I know it’s weird, you don’t have to rub it in, Brooding Beauty-”
“I didn’t- Brooding Beauty? I – What?” Virgil stammered at the nick name.
Again, Green chuckled and Virgil was considering to just walk away again. Yet he decided against it and took a deep breath before he looked down to his knees. It was always on his mind. Always something that kept his thoughts moving and one of the few things he could not talk about with Janus.
“You need to swear that this is going to stay between us, man.”
The rustling of the grass next to him told Virgil that Green had straightened his back and was now watching him closely. Somehow it felt familiar.
“Prince Roman said something along those lines when we first met.”
The wind was blowing his hair away from his eyes. Not far away from them he could hear the carriages being pulled around, people walking and talking. And yet there was no sound that could have given away Green’s presence next to him.
“I – I thought. I mean it’s said that he met you when you interrupted his carriage on his way to Sictes because you were chasing away some sheep thieves? When would the prince have had the time to say something like I just said?”
Virgil smiled. He looked up to the sky. The sky was a steely blue, no clouds but no clear sunlight either. It was like had been on that day.
He had run after the thieves because they had taken a lamb and he wanted to bring it back to its mother. On his chase he had crossed the road and apparently startled the horses on the prince’s carriage. He hadn’t even noticed as he ran through the underbrush. His focus was solely on the two men in front of him and as suddenly arrow after arrow was raining down on them. He barely caught himself from being hit as well. On was pinned against a tree as the other got hit in side and stumbled, dropping the poor lamb. Quickly, Virgil had shot forward and caught it barely before it could run away and possibly get lost mercilessly in the thick forest.
“And who might you be? Another thief? What are you doing chasing those buffoons?”
Virgil shivered. The voice was unmistakable and the tone harsh and cutting. He lifted his gaze, cradling the little animal closer to his chest and watched of all the people who he could have come across in the forest no other than Caroline Leto. A woman, no taller than 5 feet 2, black hair pulled back in a ponytail, greenish tunic and pants blending in perfectly in the background, a short bow in her hands which was pointed directly at Virgil’s forehead.
Even if Virgil had wanted, he could not utter a single word in that very moment, as someone crashed against his back from behind.
“Prince Roman had gotten out of the carriage the second it had halted completely,” Virgil continued to tell and finally looked up from his knees to meet Green’s gaze full of wonder. “He had spent more than a decade in the castle and it had been all too much. Too much of his parents, his responsibilities and his fate. He needed to get out, which was why he had agreed to the journey in the first place. So, when something happened that felt new and like an adventure to him, he didn’t hesitate for a single second. He got out to chase us, and out ran his guards with ease. I almost fell over when he crashed into me but caught myself and then helped steady him. I remember how he looked up at me, I think my – uh my scarf had moved down a bit and it caught his eyes. He didn’t look at me like other people did, with fear and disgust and all that. But with awe. And then he looked to the queen. And you know what he did then?”
Breathlessly Green said: “Did he smile at her?”
“That bloody bastard smiled at the so called ice queen and told her that her aim was amazing. She just raised an eyebrow and was about to threaten the both of us and he just kept being charming and friendly towards her. He stood in front of me to shield me from her arrow. And that had her finally convinced to lower her weapon and look at him more closely. I think she at first hadn’t recognized him, and only now realized who he might be. Since, you know, the Thea family hadn’t attended any public event in over a decade, so most people didn’t actually know how Prince Roman looked like as a grownup.”
Virgil paused for a moment, the flash of clarity in Queen Caroline’s eyes rushing through his mind. It was an image for the ages.
“She was surprised and said to him that she hadn’t imagined their first meeting to take place in a forest like this. And Prince Roman laughed and said he didn’t think so either but that he enjoyed it far more than a stiff and cold thrown room. And then they just chatted for a bit. As if no one hadn’t threatened the other with a short bow a mere moment ago. I was dumbstruck and couldn’t say anything, when Prince Roman asked me if I could help them getting the two thieves to his carriage so they could be dealt with in the next town. I just grabbed one and the prince took the other as Queen Caroline followed us and reminded the two thieves that they couldn’t flee anywhere with her weapon. They were then put in the carriage and Roman took one of the horses of his men as the Queen took another. They escorted me with the lamb back to its herd and asked me to come with them to the next village. On the way to there, I was walking next to Prince Roman and quietly listened to him and the queen talk. She was rather cordially and smiled quite a bit when she heard him speak. She praised his astute eye for her aiming skill and asked him if he didn’t mind that his clothing had gotten all dirty and ripped. And there it was when I heard the prince say that he didn’t mind his clothes getting soiled.”
“Muddy and ripped clothes are proof that one has walked the world, are proof that one lives and experiences things. They are testament to our lives and I until now I have been kept in a pristine little cage behind glass panes which kept all weather and wear away from me.”
Minutes of silence followed. Virgil didn’t mind. He could think that Green was letting that information slowly settle in his mind.
“You care for him.”
Green looked over to Virgil with wide eyes. Virgil stared back and continued: “J said that at first he thought you didn’t like Prince Roman, as you tried everything to avoid meeting him. But seeing how you act around him, after Prince Roman telling me himself that you were nothing but kind to him, I now see that J miscalculated. You care about him far more than you would like to admit. And I don’t know why but I am grateful for it.”
Green swallowed.
“You are?”
“I am, yes. He can need all the help and protection he can get. He’s can have a terrifyingly low sense of self preservation. J always says it runs in the family,” Virgil said and pulled his eyebrows up.
Green cleared his throat and laughed half-heartedly. With a grunt he stood up and Virgil did the same. It was time for them to continue with their day and get around to check the guard stations for unusual sightings.
***
           I can go.
█████ was pacing around in his room. He knew it was the smart thing to do. He knew Roman was a better diplomat than him and he had a better way with words than him. It made sense to send him on this mission and not go himself or send Logan or Janus.
But Roman was his only ███████. He was the only one left in his family and letting him go for the very first time ever was not as easy as Janus and Logan made it out to be. Especially, not now. Not when he wanted to ask Logan-
 “You wanted to see me?”
Roman had entered █████’s chamber. He was already wearing his outfit for the journey to Sictes and █████’s heart ached. Slowly, he turned around and closely looked him over. He looked cleaner and more put together than █████ himself did. He reminded him more and more of their Roman’s mother.
“Aww, look at fancy you!” █████ said teasingly but the wetness sparkling in his eyes betrayed him.
Roman sighed and walked up to him. They looked at each other for a moment and eventually █████ lifted his arms a little while shooting Roman a pleading look. Roman easily complied and pulled him into a hug.
The whole situation was hard on Roman as well. In all those years they never had left their homeland nor left each other's side for a whole month. This was new and scary for both of them but it had to be done. Roman had promised to help █████ as well as he could in his times of needs.
“I have to go, ███. You know I need this,” Roman mumbled into █████’s neck and he felt him pressing him even harder against his chest.
“I know,” █████ mumbled back before he finally let them part from the hug. “I know you have to. This place always haunted you more than me. And I’m glad I don’t have to deal with Caroline.”
Roman could not help himself but snickered at the comment and shoved █████ in the shoulder. They laughed for a moment before █████ guided them towards the sitting area and sat down with him on the divan. They remained quiet for a short while, just relenting their own thoughts and enjoying the other’s presence.
“You are sure you can do this, right?” █████ said in a small voice.
Roman bit his lips and took █████’s hand. He squeezed it, let go and signed: “I’ll be fine.”
Around █████ he dared to not talk and sign as much as he pleased and █████ was glad that Roman still felt comfortable enough around him to do that.
A tap on █████’s shoulder. He looked over. Roman signed concerned: “Will you be fine?”
He took a deep breath and folded his hands in his lap. Would he be fine? There was Janus. He was like a brother to █████ at this point. He knew so well what was going on in his head, could predict so easily what others deemed to be unpredictable about █████. He would take care of Roman. He had promised so and █████ knew he would do anything to keep that promise.
And then there was of course Logan. Logan, who had accepted the position as his Military Advisor at first, later also the title of his International Relationships Advisor and even as his Council for the Education System. Logan, who was loyal, smart and lovely. Logan, who had begun to flirt back three years ago. Logan, who had finally kissed him the first time two years ago. Logan, who had told him that he loved him right after that first kiss.
“I think, I will be fine...” █████ said with a smile on his lips and he took something out of his pocket.
Roman watched as █████ fiddled with a box and suddenly realized what it was. He inhaled sharply and █████ looked up to him, his hands tightening their grip around the box.
“You’ll ask him?” Roman said breathlessly and stared at the little box.
█████ simply nodded and exchanged a look with Roman. They hadn’t been together for a long time. The burden Logan would have to carry as part of the royal family was huge and no one knew that better than them. They had lost their Roman’s parents because of that burden.
And yet Logan made █████ happy. Roman could see it every time they spoke together and, in every moment, when they managed to catch a glimpse of the other during meetings. They gave each other a safe place to retreat and a strong shoulder to lean on on bad days.
Roman began to grin and put his hand over █████’s to stop him from clenching his fist anymore.
“It’s about time. He’s certainly eager to finally spend every night with you!” Roman joked.
█████ simply grinned at the comment and fiddled a little more with the box. On other days he would have complimented Roman’s slightly suggestive jab but right now he was simply too nervous to do so.
“We both know that he will say yes. There’s no need for you to be nervous,” Roman reassured him as █████ didn’t say anything else.
█████ huffed and shook his head still staring at the box in his hands.
“I know,” █████ said bitterly, “he will. But – This is going to be so much on him and I – I’m thinking of making it even harder for him, Ro.”
Roman blinked and █████ looked at him seriously. They had the same thought.
“In case of your death you want him to become king in my stead, don’t you?”
█████’s lips were pressed together in a thin line and Roman let out a long breath. Then he let out a laugh and leaned his shoulder against █████’s side.
“He makes a better king than both of us combined me, ███. I’m not going to fight you on this. If anything, I’ll encourage it even,” Roman told him softly before he fixed █████’s unruly bangs.
█████ let Roman fuss over his hair some more. He truly had inherited their Roman’s mother’s elegance and warmth and █████ tried to indulge in it as long as he could until Roman would undoubtfully have to leave. And he knew that Roman indulged in it as well.

The rest of the day was rather uneventful. Nothing new had been seen and they had to head back as empty handed as in the last few days. Green was quieter during all of it and Virgil was questioning himself if it had been something that he had said this day when Green suddenly started to talk on their way towards his quarters.
“What gave you the idea that I care about the prince? What of my behaviour gave it away?” he asked rather quietly.
For a moment Virgil mused and then replied: “I think it’s a bit the same behaviour you show around the boy; you soften your tone and have the patience of a saint. Frankly, I think it’s your fatherly side that is coming through.”
The steps next to Virgil stopped abruptly. He stopped immediately as well and turned to see Green’s mortified face. His breath hitched, sweat started to build up on his brows. Virgil did not hesitate and after a short “Can I touch you?” which was answered with a nod, he pulled Green away from the street into the little room he called his. Slowly, so very slowly Virgil managed to get Green grounded again as he told him how to breath and had him drink two glasses of water. The first one he almost completely spilled due to his shaking hands but the contents of the second glass made it almost completely into his mouth.
Several minutes later, after the panting and shivering from Green had subdued Virgil sat down next to him on the bed. Green let himself fall backwards on the bed and Virgil watched him closely. To his surprise Green’s eyes met his and were clearer than he had expected them to be after such an intense stress reaction.
“What on earth gave you the idea that I could be a father?”
Virgil furrowed his brows.
“I told Janus that I didn’t have anything to do with kids-” Green spoke further but Virgil cut him off.
“J asked you if you worked with kids. At least that’s what he told us and that’s not the same thing as being a dad and the way you treat Patton reminds me of how J’s father treats kids. He is like the only good reference I have for a father figure and you check all the boxes. Sorry, I assumed wrong. Didn’t think you’d freak out that much but, uh, sorry, it’s – it’s fine! You don’t have to tell me anything about this. I was out of line.”
Green had closed his eyes. He threw his arm over his face and only his mouth was visible now. He began to grin bitterly.
 “We were trying.”
It had been so quiet that Virgil had almost missed it. Almost. But he heard and his mind was racing.
These three words told him so much more about the mystery man than he had ever expected to find out. There was a we, a partner of sorts who was close enough to start a family with Green. But this partner was no longer in the picture. But why? How had Green, who fought quicker and harder than most people he had ever met, lost this partner?
And more importantly, how did Green cope with such a loss on his own? Looking at his still body, at the tenseness in his arms and the forced smile on his lips he wasn’t dealing well.
With a broken voice Virgil mumbled: “I’m so sorry, dude…”
A snort.
“Whatever for, Gloom and Doom? You’re not the one who took him from me. Took my life… It’s fine. Don’t tell Janus, the prince and especially not the king. They’ve got better things to worry about. They shouldn’t waste their time on some stupid no one, who is dealing with things that can no longer be changed. It’s fine.”
He lifted his arm and sat up.
His eyes darted down to his feet.
He lifted his gaze and met eyes with Virgil again. A little smile, sincere yet small.
“But for what it’s worth,” Green said and put his hand on Virgil’s shoulder, “thanks for thinking I’d be a good dad. Didn’t think I’d ever turn out to be good enough for that.”

Sirius Black x Reader (she/her pronouns used)
ᴍᴀꜱᴛᴇʀʟɪꜱᴛ / navigation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“angel?” his voice is meek as he approaches you, raspy as though it hadn’t been used properly in a while.
after avoiding him through most of the week, you guess your voice isn’t up to its usual standard either, the two of you together bombard everyone with your chatterbox tendencies, without the other, you’re both hopeless.
how did this begin? …
Tumblr media
after going flower picking through the gardens near the forest of the school grounds, you decided to bring a bunch of the pretty flowers to your boyfriend sirius and surprise him. you knew he’d hadn’t had the best week, so you thought this would cheer him up a bit.
but when you raised your fist (full of flowers) to knock at his dorm you stood silently outside the door listening to the conversation at hand inside.
“i’ve just been so tired, and she isn’t helping! she’s always around me, i can never get a break!” he loudly complains to his friends.
you heard your boyfriends voice first, you froze and put your ear to the door.
“why don’t you just ask her to give you some alone time then?” remus questioned him like it was the simplest answer ever to be given, all he needed was to communicate, you’d understand, remus knew that “everyone needs alone time mate, just let her know.” he continued.
“she doesn’t get it though. she just can’t take a hint! merlin, i love her but after a class with flitwick i do not need y/n’s voice yapping in my ear about anything and everything!” his outburst is exasperated and harsh to the ear.
after hearing up to that point you’d had enough, your once bright eyes now dull, your fist fell loose and the bunch of flowers that had rested in there now dropped on the floor.
Tumblr media
you’d given him time, and after about 2 days sirius realised how distant you were. no more good morning kisses, or talks about each others day, no piggy backs to classes, no dorm visits, nothing.
and he missed it.
a lot.
of course he tried to approach you during the week, but you’d brush it off after a few words and go on with your day seeming like nothing had happened at all.
it had now been a full week, it was saturday now.
sirius was moping in the common room slumped on a seat with a blanket loosely around him.
james, remus and peter were there too, on a large couch opposite him.
“i dunno what i’ve done, she’s not talkin’ to me.” he let out, a sad tone seeping in that he didn’t bother to cover up.
“well, i mean you were the one who said you wanted some alone time pads ..” james replied, not as loud as usual, not wanting to work his best friend up and start a fight. that happened yesterday...
“that was a week ago!” sirius’ face was scrunched up, a crease forming in between his brows and mouth in a small grimace
it was then they heard the painting open up, and they all looked up expectantly seeing who it was.
yourself and lily entered swiftly, a ghost of a smile on both of your faces as they heard the end of a laugh of out the both of you.
once you looked up though, seeing him, your sirius, your smile now forced, and you awkwardly backtracked to the stairs leading into your dorm quickly.
sirius tried to call out, but there was no point, you’d gone now.
lily sighed and her face looked almost bored now, “alright, when are you going to fix it?” she asked, eyes directly pointed to sirius
“what?” he answered stupidly
her mouth formed a line, she walked up to a seat closest to his own and said firmly, “your girlfriend has been crying to me all week, after what you said last saturday, i sure hope you’ve gotten what you wanted” she said to him, frustrated and upset for her own best friend.
his eyes widened, “what are y’talking about lily?” he hoped it wasn’t what he thought it was.
“you know what i’m talking about black, she went up to your room last week trying to give you flowers, like a sweet girlfriend, and you just had to ruin it didn’t you! she heard everything you said about her to the rest of you!” she looked at the rest of the boys who now looked upset too, they weren’t just sirius’ friend, they were yours too.
sirius took in a sharp inhale of breath, his eyes shut tightly, so angry at himself over the hurt he knew he caused his own girlfriend.
he loved her to pieces, that much was noticeable, everyone could see the love they both held for each other, so this week even the teachers were curious on why the couple were nowhere to be seen together this past week.
“i didn’t mean it! i just had a bad day, i never meant to hurt her-“
“i know you didn’t. that’s why you need to go talk to her right now. fix it.” lily’s voice was still firm, but eyes softening at the look of her friend, “sirius, now please” her voice was now noticeably softer, and he obliged.
Tumblr media
rushing up the stairs to reach her dorm, once he reached it, he knocked, softly enough not to startle her, but enough for her to hear it.
“lils you know you don’t have to knock, it’s your dorm too y’know’ he heard a meek reply, your voice.
he opened the door to see you propped up against your headboard, having changed into comfy clothes and reading a book, he recognised it, you had started reading it to him last week, before everything happened.
“angel?”
you looked up startled, very much not expecting sirius in your dorm.
“siri … you okay?” you asked him, he looked pale, more than usual.
he let out a breath, relived you’d even talk to him, he didn’t deserve that, he thought, you didn’t have to be nice to him after what he’d said, yet- you are.
he walked closer to your bed, sitting down on top of it on the other end that you were.
“i am so so sorry darling”
“what’re you talking about siri?” you questioned, looking confused
“i know you heard what i said last week, at the dorm.” he gently took one of your hands, resting in in the middle of both of his.
your eyes looked into his, yours soft, but sad, “it wasn’t true, none of it, i love being around you, more than anything! i was having a bad day and i took it out on you, i should have never done that.”
he felt your hand squeeze his, “i get it siri, i’m sorry, i should’ve given you space, don’t wanna annoy you-“
“no, no, no, never angel, you never annoy me, i love hearing you talk, s’my favourite thing! how can i make this up to you, anything, anything you want, i’ll do it.” he pleaded with you.
“anything?” you asked
“anything.” he confirmed.
your lips formed a small smile, that he noticed, and felt his heart explode at the sight, the first genuine one he’d seen from you in what seemed like forever.
“well tomorrow we’re going flower picking together, no arguments!” your voice playful
“no complaints” his smile only got wider at the invitation of spending time with you.
“but for now, just come cuddle, we can read together? and rem gave me some of his chocolate, so we can have that too!” you seemed excited now, and you were, finally after days and days of not having your favourite company, he was here again, with you.
“i would love nothing more” he made his way up to where you were sitting in the bed and pulled you closer to him.
there was definitely more to talk about, to reassure each other about, but for now, you were both content with where you were now. together.

Cake Off
Happy birthday, Finn O'Hara! Here's to hoping all your wishes come true <3 SW credit goes to @lumosinlove!
Marlene waved to the camera as she wove a small whisk into her bun; behind her, five young men sat in front of a well-lit industrial kitchen. “Hello, Lions, and welcome back to Lion Pride! I’m your host, Marlene McKinnon, and we’re here today to celebrate someone we all love very much.”
“Some more than others,” Leo corrected.
“Today is Finn O’Hara’s 25thbirthday,” Marlene continued. “And my gift to him was letting him pick what our next video was going to be. Being the agent of chaos we know and love, he chose to force his friends to make him birthday cakes. Cap, Knutty, I know you two are feeling pretty confident about this. Tremzy, Kasey, and Loops, how are we feeling today?”
Logan’s expression was rather pained. “Can I apologize in advance?”
“I have…a history with ovens,” Kasey said carefully. “Kind of like Britain’s history with the rest of the world, except I’m the rest of the world and the oven wins nine times out of ten.”
“I don’t bake,” Remus sighed. “This is going to be an adventure. Can I leave if I already got him a present?”
“Nope!” Marlene chirped. “To your stations, everyone!”
The five of them trooped to the countertops, which had been covered with a colorful assortment of baking supplies; Logan’s smile grew even more nervous. “Is there a guidebook, or something?”
Marlene ruffled his hair as she passed. “Where’s the fun in that? You have two hours to make a unique birthday cake. On your marks—”
Kasey went pale. “Wait—”
“—get set—”
“Marlene, please,” Remus begged.
“—go!”
“Oh my god,” Logan muttered. “Uh, I don’t have a recipe.”
Marlene’s grin was wicked. “That’s the extra bonus fun.”
Leo paused from where he was measuring flour into a sifter and raised his hand. “Finn’s not actually tasting everyone’s cakes, right? ‘Cause making him sick on his birthday seems a bit mean.”
“He only has to try one bite of each,” Marlene assured him as she stopped by Sirius’ station, where he was gathering his ingredients in a line. “Cap, what are you making today?”
“Vanilla with chocolate frosting. I know the recipe by heart, but I only make it when I’m stressed.” A furrow appeared between his brows before he straightened up and raised his voice. “Hey, someone stress me out!”
“Playoffs!” Kasey shouted from across the room. All five men immediately hurried to knock on the wooden cabinets.
“Thanks!” Sirius gave him a thumbs-up and Kasey winked.
“And somebody won’t be sleeping tonight,” Remus muttered, flicking sugar at Kasey. “Thanks, Bliz.”
Logan was still bracing himself against the countertop when Marlene arrived at his table. “How’re you feeling, Tremz? I see you haven’t chosen any ingredients.”
“There’s a very fine line between making your boyfriend a birthday cake and poisoning him,” Logan said after a moment. “And I think I’m about to find out where it is.”
“What are you making?”
“I don’t know yet. Whatever happens, happens.”
“Fair enough,” Marlene laughed as she moved on. “Leo?”
“I’m gonna make a lemon cake,” he said with a proud smile as he mixed the dry ingredients. “And it’s going to be delicious.”
“Do you bake at home very often? You sound confident.”
He shrugged one shoulder. “For special occasions, yeah. I vaguely know what I’m doing, so I feel pretty good.”
“How do you think Logan’s cake will turn out?”
Leo paused and glanced up. A beat of silence passed before he bit his lower lip. “I think it’s a really good thing that Finn has two boyfriends that are making him cakes.”
“Rude,” Logan grumbled as he dumped another cupful of flour into a bowl to Sirius’ obvious horror. He stuck his tongue out. “Don’t give me that look, Cap, this cake is going to be fucking amazing.”
Sirius raised his eyebrows and turned back to his own batter. “If you say so.”
Logan stood on his toes and poured the next cup directly over Sirius’ head in a poof of white. The studio went silent. With a cough, a bit of flour puffed from Sirius’ mouth. “Cap?” Kasey ventured.
“Hmm?”
“You okay?”
“Mhmm.” He slowly took a towel off the oven door and wiped his face with it, then whipped around and snapped it at Logan’s thigh—it connected with a sharp sound, followed by a yelp as Logan shoved Leo in front of him as a makeshift shield. “You can’t hide behind him forever!”
“Remember, you only have two hours!” Marlene called as she dodged a patch of flour on the floor. Sirius scowled and put the towel back down on the counter; Logan backed away to his station with a suspicious glare. “Loops, how are you?”
“I’m minding my own business,” he said innocently. “Staying in my lane. Paying no attention to the idiots behind the curtain, if you will.”
“Impressive. What are you making for our wonderful Harzy?”
“Spite cake.”
“What?”
“Spite cake,” he repeated with a shadow of a smile. “It’s carrot cake, but with no special ingredient of love or appreciation, because he knows how much I hate baking and he’s been making fun of me over text all morning.”
Leo frowned. “Weren’t you two bonding over how much you hate carrot cake when we went to lunch yesterday?”
“Hence the name,” Remus said as he pulled a cheese grater out of the lineup.
“And last, but certainly not least, Kasey.” Marlene leaned against the edge of his table. “How’s it going over here?”
“So far, so good.” He eyed his batter and poked one of the lumps with a fork. “Does this look ready to you?”
“Seems a bit wet, to be honest.”
“Yeah, I thought so. Do people put milk in cake batter?” On the other end of the kitchen, Sirius and Leo shared a look.
Marlene patted his arm. “Good luck, Bliz.”
The camera cut for a moment—when it returned, the three bakers on the far end seemed to be even more flustered than before. “You have one hour left!” someone off-screen announced.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.” Logan held his spatula up. The batter remained stuck to it in a doughy lump. “Is this supposed to happen?”
Leo’s eyes flickered between Sirius, who was clearly shocked into silence, and Logan, who was growing more distressed by the second. “Sure, honey.”
“Baby, it looks like jello,” Remus called as he shook his mixing bowl with a nervous glance to Sirius. “Why does it look like jello?”
“Mon dieu,” Sirius muttered as he crossed the room; the second he looked over Remus’ shoulder, his eyes widened. “How did you…?”
“I don’t know.”
“You put flour in, right?”
“Hey, no helping!” Kasey protested, swatting Sirius on the shoulder with an oven mitt. “We all fail on our own merit here. Tremy’s making concrete, Loops has jello, and I’ve got soup, so you and Knutty can fuck off back to your perfect batter and let us suffer in peace!”
“Jesus, Bliz, did you put water in that?”
“No! I put butter and milk in!”
“Why?”
“Because!”
“One hour left!” Marlene shouted.
“Fuck it, it’s good enough.” Remus grabbed the nearest cake pan and dumped his batter in, then put it in the oven. He turned the heat on and faced the camera guiltily. “Harzy, I know this was meant to spite you, it really was just meant to be a carrot cake. Not…that.”
Logan sprinkled a handful of chocolate sprinkled into his mixing bowl. “I don’t know what I’m doing,” he singsonged. “But I know I’m doing it poorly!”
“Oh my god,” Remus said suddenly as he licked some of his batter off his finger. “Oh my—oh my god.”
Kasey looked up from pouring his batter into a pan in mild alarm. “What?”
“Oh my god, that’s terrible. Here, try it.”
Kasey put his cake in the oven before swiping a bit off and tasting it. His whole face scrunched. “What?”
“I know,” Remus laughed, passing the spatula to Logan. “It’s like getting punched with a cinnamon stick.”
“I can feel it in my nose,” Logan coughed. “Here, try mine.”
Leo regarded them with a healthy amount of disbelief. “Why are you all tasting it if you know it’s bad?”
“Because Marlene needs workable content.”
“Do it for the vine.”
“Because I’m a dumbass, rookie.” Kasey lifted the spatula up. “Cap, your fiancé made toxic sludge in cake form. Want some?”
Sirius hesitated, then sighed and headed over. Leo threw his hands in that air. “You, too?”
“What else am I supposed to—” Sirius faltered with a harsh exhale and braced his hands against the counter, licking his lips. “How many eggs did you put in that?”
“Four? Five?”
“How much cinnamon?”
“A teaspoon?”
Sirius took a fortifying breath through his nose. “Teaspoon or tablespoon?”
“Tablespoon,” Kasey answered for him. “Definitely a tablespoon. Try mine.”
“You two are never allowed in a kitchen again,” Sirius said, though he swiped his finger along the inside of Kasey’s bowl and tasted his batter with a grimace. “Ugh. It’s just melted butter.”
“How did you make it taste like salty butter and nothing else?” Logan asked, sounding genuinely interested.
“Well, Tremzy, I put salt and butter in it.”
Leo’s phone timer went off and he opened the oven door; four faces turned toward him in shock as he pulled a golden cake out and checked the center with a toothpick. Logan closed his eyes and bent closer, taking a deep inhale. “I wish the viewers could smell this, because it’s heaven.”
“Can it be my birthday instead?” Kasey asked. “Please?”
“Get back, you hyenas!” Leo whacked him lightly on the hand with a spoon when he reached out to poke the cake. “That oven was 350 degrees!”
Sirius glanced up at the camera. “That’s 177 degrees, for all you smart people out there.”
“Boo, Celsius.” Remus kissed his cheek. “You smell like sugar.”
“How much time do you all have left on your cakes?” Marlene asked from her perch next to the sink.
Logan, Remus, and Kasey shared a look before Logan turned back to her. “I don’t know?”
“You can’t answer that with another question,” she laughed.
“Ten minutes,” he guessed.
“Whenever it starts to smell good,” Remus said. “Though I doubt that’s going to happen.”
Kasey cocked his head and scanned Leo’s cake for a second. “When it starts looking like that.”
“It won’t,” Leo informed him.
“Damn, Knutty, okay.”
Marlene shook her head. “We’re going to cut filming until everyone’s cakes are out of the oven, but in the meantime we’ve got some special messages for our favorite redhead.”
A banner reading Happy Birthday, Finn! appeared on the screen with a burst of confetti before the usual studio replaced it, with its white walls and folding chairs. Dumo crossed one leg over the other with a soft smile. “One thing I admire about Finn is his tenacity. When he wants something, he’ll go for it with his whole heart.”
“I love his humor,” Leo said in the next short video. He was smiling as well, and had a faint blush on his freckled cheeks. “And the way he makes breakfast in the mornings. All the little things he does to make the people he loves happy. And he really does love with his whole heart. There’s no holding back with him.”
“Finn?” Sirius thought for a moment. “He’s a good person. I know that might sound lame, but he’s one of those people that you meet that always makes you feel happy, and confident, and supported. Anyone who meets him should count themselves lucky.”
Logan’s face was filled with nothing but affection. “I love his patience and his kindness. Whether that was helping me work on my English in college, or making the rookies feel welcome, or even the way he talks to complete strangers when they ask for directions on the street. Everything about him is kind.”
“Ah, jeez.” Remus bit his lower lip. “I think—I think what I admire most about Finn is that he never lets anyone else define who he is. He’s comfortable in himself and makes everyone around him feel safe. It’s sappy, but it’s true. He’s one of my best friends and I’m grateful for him every day.”
“He’s one of the most reliable people I’ve ever met,” James said. “Both on and off the ice. He will be there to support his friends in any capacity and I think we all need to be a little more like Finn that way.”
“Great player.” Arthur nodded. “Great player, and an even better teammate. I can put O’Hara anywhere on the ice and he’ll throw everything he’s got into doing his best. I can’t think of a single Lion who doesn’t love being on the same shift as him.”
Talker grinned, leaning back in his chair with a shake of his head. “Finn just loves hockey. He takes it seriously, of course, but he loves being out there with us and I’m always happy when we’re on a line together. He goes out there every night and has a blast. I admire a lot about him, but especially that.”
“It’s hard to pick one specific thing that I admire about him,” Kasey said, shifting in his chair. “He’s Finn. He’s annoying as all hell, and I love him for it. I’m not sure. Can I make a list?”
“Harzy is very cool,” Olli laughed. “Very cool and very fun to be around. He has a quick wit and truly cares about all of us.”
Kuny raised his eyebrows. “What I like about Harzy? Oh, everything. Everything. He is good friend, good teammate, always there when we need him. Good for Tremzy and Knutty, too. He would turn red like fire engine if he heard me. Don’t tell him I say that.”
The video changed to a wide view of the whole team as they waved to the camera. “Happy birthday, Harzy!” they chorused. “Bitch ass moves!”
The kitchen was much cleaner when the video resumed; all the cooking supplies had been taken away, leaving five hockey players with their cakes in front of them. Leo’s cake was a bit lopsided, though the yellow frosting was cheerful and even—next to him, Logan’s cake looked more like a squished loaf of bread. Sirius’ was plain and elegant, while Kasey’s frosting was still dripping as the camera zoomed in on it.
“Wow,” Finn said after a moment of silence from his seat at the main table, where five slices of cake had been placed on small plates with a label for each name. “Just…wow.”
“You can start with whichever one you want,” Marlene told him.
“I think I’ll save Cap and Leo’s for last. Uh, Kase, what happened here?”
Kasey sighed. “I wish I knew.”
Finn gave it a wary look, then took a bite; his chewing slowed to a stop almost immediately and Logan’s shoulders started to shake from his suppressed laughter. “You know it’s burnt on the outside and not cooked on the inside, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Just checking.” With great effort, he swallowed. “Why is it wet?”
“Your guess is as good as mine, man.”
Finn took the next plate, then paused. “Re, I love you, but…”
Remus shook his head. “I know.”
“I’m genuinely afraid to try this.”
“You should be.”
The second it touched his tongue, Finn started laughing. “Jesus, it’s a straight shot of cinnamon. Why is it crunchy?”
“It’s carrot cake!”
“You know I hate carrot cake!”
“Look, I gave it my best shot. It really wasn’t supposed to do…” He gestured at the plate. “That.”
“Lo, baby, please tell me yours is better than the last two.”
Logan thought for a moment. “It was made with love and that’s all that matters.”
Finn took a deep breath before taking a bite. A range of emotions washed over his face—pleasant surprise, then confusion, then horror, and finally disbelief. “I…what?”
“I don’t even know.”
He swallowed, then ate another bite. “Oh, bad idea. This—are there chocolate chips in here? And almonds?”
“Yeah. You like those, right?”
“Usually, yes. It’s kind of got the texture of fruitcake, but—” Finn broke off and picked the slice up, giving it a shake. Not even a crumb fell out of place, and the rest of the boys burst out laughing. “Lo. Logan. Light of my life, what the fuck?”
“Happy birthday?”
“This is the best birthday present ever. Alright, Cap, your turn.” He took a piece of Sirius’ cake and nodded. “Yep, that’s cake.”
Sirius blinked at him. “And?”
Finn shrugged. “It’s cake. Classic flavors, good texture. I like it. Definitely tastes like a cake you would make.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
“He’s calling you basic,” Kasey said, patting Sirius’ shoulder sympathetically. “But hey, at least yours was cooked all the way.”
“And now for boyfriend number two,” Finn continued.
Leo rolled his eyes. “Boyfriend number two.”
“Oh, that’s so good,” Finn groaned around a mouthful of cake. His eyebrows pitched. “I love it.”
“What about it?” Marlene prompted.
“For starters, it’s cooked all the way through. The lemon is freakin’ amazing, and the frosting isn’t melting off the sides or anything. I can’t even taste everyone else’s anymore. It’s a helluva cake. Happy birthday to me. Will you make this every day?”
“No,” Leo said, though there was a pleased flush on his face. “But maybe on the weekend.”
Finn scraped the last of the crumbs off his plate. “Alright, everyone, come get a piece of this magic. Thank you for doing this, by the way. I know three of you hate baking.”
“It wasn’t that bad,” Logan admitted as he settled himself on one of Finn’s thighs with a slice of his own and kissed his temple. “Sorry for almost poisoning you. Oh, that is tasty.”
“I love you anyway. I think Loops and Bliz were actually the closest to doing that, so you’re all good.” Finn raised his eyebrows and craned his neck over Logan’s shoulder. “Speaking of…”
“Lasagna or chicken piccata?” Remus asked. Sirius took advantage of his moment of distraction by stealing a bite off his plate and received a playful glare in response, though it was soothed by a kiss on his cheek.
“Lasagna, please.”
“Does Friday work?”
Finn gave him a thumbs-up. “Sorry, Harzy,” Kasey said as he carefully got the last bits of frosting off his fork. “I have no marketable skills to apologize with. You don’t want me anywhere near a stove or an oven.”
A gleam lit in Finn’s eye. “Will you get in all your pads and play chicken with Knutty and I?”
“For the twentieth time—”
“It’s my birthday,” he wheedled, pouting his lower lip out with the Bambi eyes turned to full blast.
Kasey sighed. “Fine.”
“Hell yeah.”
“Thanks for joining us for our birthday celebration,” Marlene said with a smile. “The best estimations of these recipes are linked on our website, with a few tweaks to make sure none of your loved ones get food poisoning this August. Have a great day, Lions!”

The Message on the Wall
Pairing: James Potter x gn!Reader - Marauders x Reader Content
Word Count: 5.9k (jdklfdh im sorry)
Warnings: Underage Drinking, Implications of... yeah. I think that’s about it.
Requested: Yes, a long time (i feel bad for only getting to it but i hope the nonnie stuck around to see this piece) by an anon who asked for James x Reader with childhood best friends to lovers trope.
Summary: In which, James Potter was busy writing himself a message on the wall but was too blind to read what he had to say.
Tumblr media
Pictures.
In actuality they were only images. For Muggles, they stood stagnant, for James Potter they moved slightly.
But in deeper meaning pictures were moments in time captured in a frame. They were a personal reminder of things that were, things that used to be and anything else that didn’t fall into one of the other two categories.
James Potter adored pictures. His room was littered with them. A handful were of Quidditch players and Tutshill Tornados merchandise. One picture of him and his parents sat on the nightstand beside his bed. But adjourned on the wall to the left was a mostly blank wall. One small Tornados banner was pinned against the soft red paint and in the middle a picture he was particularly fond of.
The film captured James at the age of four. A broom was clutched in his left hand and a toothy smile on his face as the wind rustled his hair causing it to stick up more than it already did. Beside him was you, your eyes crossed and your tongue licking a swirled lolly.
When his mother had shown him the picture you had just left for home, making a young James quite sad that his friend couldn’t stay just a little longer. Euphemia Potter had smiled, handing the picture to her son. “It’s okay, my love. Now you have a piece of Y/N with you.”
“How?” James had asked, his lower lip jutting out in a frown.
Euphemia laughed. “The picture captures you together. Look how happy the two of you look!” she points at her son’s smile in the photo. “You can do whatever you’d like with it.”
James grinned, his eyes lighting up once more. “I want to hang it, mum!” he dragged her hand into the bedroom with him, climbing on top of his bedsheets and pressing the picture to the wall. “Here. That way I can say goodnight to them even when they're not here.”
Euphemia Potter smiled watching as her son tucked himself under the covers. “That’s a brilliant idea, James.” With a wave of her wand, two pins fastened themself to the wall, the photo beneath.
That was the beginning of James’s love for pictures. More pictures would accumulate such as the one of him and his father at a Tornados game. Drawings you would give him of flowers and Kneazles. The pictures would come and go but yours stayed the same. An additional picture of you and James would later be added three years later when the two of you were seven. James’s broom no longer sat in one hand, instead was gripped with two and hovering five feet off the ground. He had a wicked smile on his face, his glasses slightly falling down his nose. You sat behind him, your small fingers clutching to his waist as the picture captured you mid-squeal.
Time went on yet the pictures of the two of you stayed the same. Along with your drawings, which had improved dramatically since you were seven, he’d occasionally find a Hollyhead Harpies banner plastered to his wall. When he came to scold you, pink banners adjourned in his hand, you’d laugh at the pout on his lips. He could never stay angry at you and always joined in on your laughter.
The final year before things would slightly change was the year before going to Hogwarts.  A third picture was added at the age of ten. The Potter family had accompanied your family on a trip to Diagon Alley in which you had bought your screech owl, Juniper. James had one arm wrapped around you. His hair was untidy and a goofy smile was on his face as his other hand flicked your forehead. Your eyes were closed mid-laugh as one hand pushed his face away and the other perched with Juniper who screeched happily on your available arm.
Again, time went on quickly and changes were made in James Potter’s room but you were not one of them. He packed up his Hogwarts things the night of August 31st, leaving his room full of pictures with a soft smile.
You rode on the train with him, both of you waving goodbye to your loved ones. You grinned at him wickedly, “Excited?” you ask.
“Definitely.” he responded. “Do you have money for the trolley?”
You slide into a train compartment, one small boy already sitting there. “Yeah. Do you need to borrow some?”
James nodded and you rolled your eyes, handing money over to the kind witch who passed by, grabbing pumpkin pasties for you and Bertie Botts for James.
The ride was life-changing as you made acquaintances with similar mindsets. Two more boys entered your compartment and along with the scrawny boy from before, all of you made it to Gryffindor. “Where dwell the brave at heart” as James liked to put it.
First year was an interesting feat with James quickly falling head over heels for Lily Evans. Your friendship never faltered although the thought of her in his life made you feel odd. However, you were sure she wouldn’t be in his life for quite some time seeing as his persistent efforts were met with an equally stubborn rejection.
“She’s a firecracker, that one.” he sighed, walking beside you down the hall after another devastating encounter with Lily.
“You’re just embarrassing yourself now, my boy.” you reply, dubbing his nickname to ease the comment.
He smirked. “Then why do you hang out with me?”
“Because, I’m the one who makes sure you don’t cross the line from embarrassing to mortifying.”
He shakes his head with a silly grin. “I doubt that. You love me. That’s why.”
You laugh, an effective way of avoiding the curious ideas that ran through your young mind. “Don’t throw around the l- word so quickly! You’ve got to mean it.”
James bumped your side. “But I’ve known you for years.”
You ruffle his hair, making it messier than it already was. “Save it for Evans.”
---
The year ended and the two of you went home to Northern England hands overflowing with Gryffindor red, spirits high with a drive for Quidditch practice and addresses from Remus, Peter, and Sirius tucked away in your pockets.
James’s room changed tremendously that first year. Alongside the Tutshill Tornados merchandise were small Gryffindor banners, lions enchanted to roar at the touch. You had given him one of your sketches from the school year, one of Sirius and him laughing in Transfiguration, another of him and Peter skipping stones. The pictures of the two of you still remained, a small collection of dust coating the edges which he wiped away with a smile.
Second year was merry and full of high spirits. James had acquired his father’s invisibility cloak which gave cause to a number of nighttime rendezvous and adventures in the kitchens. Suspicion arose on Remus, whose monthly disappearances came to your attention. With the help of Sirius and Peter, the group soon discovered Remus’s guarded secret and accepted the furry little problem with open arms.
The Lily Evans situation did not get any better with James’s persistence holding up fiercely and her hatred toward him even more harsh. As Sirius had dubbed it, “Mate, at this point you’re never getting married.” Remus and Peter whole-heartedly agreed, sending James into an adolescent spiral.
“What if I don’t get married, Y/N/N?” he confided in you by the shores of the Black Lake.
You chuckled, his delirium quite adorable. “You’re going to get married, James. Trust me.”
He sighed, snapping a twig between his fingers. “It’s not definite.”
“Nothing is.” you counter.
James groaned. “I know. I know. But I would like it to be. Wouldn’t you?”
You contemplated the idea, a thought coming to your head. “What if it could be?”
He stared at you curiously. Your eyes lit up and James grinned. “Hit me.”
“If by the time we are thirty neither of us are married then we should get married to each other.” you propose, a proud smile on your face. “That way we can have a definite of our own.”
James grinned. “I like that idea. But what if one of us gets married before that?”
You frown. “Then I guess it’d be a flop. But it’s better than nothing, right?”
He agreed quickly. The sun was setting into a pond of pink. The wind rustled and birds chirped and the moment seemed picture perfect and James wished a camera would magically pop up and capture the moment so he’d be able to hang it on his wall for years to come. It did not work that way, instead, he turned to you with a smirk. “I don’t have anything to propose with.”
You looked down in embarrassment and gave him a shove. “We’re not getting married yet! It’s just a deal not the real thing.”
He rolled his eyes at you. “I know but it feels as though something special should happen. How about we seal with a spit swear?”
You stick your tongue out and pretend to gag. “Ew! No.” you flick his forehead causing him to wince. He grins before flicking you back, watching as you fall back onto the grass.
“I guess a flick works as well.” he sighs. “Y/N Potter has a nice ring to it.”
Your head falls against his shoulder. “I can’t believe I might be a Potter one day. Sounds disgusting.”
James laughs, the weight of your head feeling oddly familiar against his shoulder. “Oh, shut it!”
---
The years came and went. Third year, James made the Quidditch team and he quickly became a ladies man despite his obvious pining over Evans. You made sure to keep his feet on the ground as you didn’t want his ego to get larger than it already was. You came to all his games, occasionally bringing a camera so that James could add his moments of glory onto his beloved room wall. There was the time he tried dedicating a shot to you and ended up getting knocked off his broom by a Beater.
He made the next one thankfully.
On the other hand, you had earned the title of master dueler amongst the third years for your quick arm and sharp spellcasting. While James was at Quidditch practice: you, Peter, Remus, and Sirius would practice in empty classrooms although after a while they became rather bored as you would always win. James would cheer you on, even when you beat him there was a compliment of your skill and he was more than anything, proud.
The summer between third and fourth year was the year the Marauders got their first group picture together. Everyone had met up at the Potter residence, Euphemia Potter snapping the photo with Sirius and James to the left, Peter and Remus on the right, and you in the middle. James hung the picture on his wall as it was routine by now. The whole gang got to see his famous wall of pictures, his life an open storybook to anyone who looked closely.
Fourth year sparked love, pranks, and new ideas. Peter went on his first date, flaming at the cheeks as his friends waved him off embarrassingly. Group pranks ensued upon Snape whose oily hair was dyed all colors of the rainbow by the end of the first semester. You had gone on your first date as well, Steven Goldstein from Hufflepuff whom James threatened to beat up and Sirius who gave him “a talk”.
Most importantly, the group addressed Remus’s furry little problem seeing as each year he came back with more and more scars than before. Two ideas sparked up from the meeting and both were large feats that every member of the group was willing to take.
“So wait..” Peter asked. “You want to make a map… that tracks everyone in Hogwarts?”
James nodded and Remus shook his head. “That’s exactly what I’m saying. Don’t look at me that way, Remus.”
Remus shoved him lightly. “How would that even work though? Isn’t it a little invasive?”
You smiled. “It most certainly is invasive but think about how awesome it’d be to have something like that. All we would need is…”
“A complex locator spell.” you and Sirius said together.
Everyone grinned. “Pete can do the drawing and sketching. He’s good at that stuff. We should check for secret passageways. All of us could do the magic. We’ve got the brains.”
“I don’t think someone with brilliant magic technique would use the word brain to describe their intelligence.” you point out. James simply flicked you in the head.
“And there’s the Animagi thing…” Sirius added.
“That’s a reach.” Remus replied.
“More than the map?” Peter questioned.
Remus sighed. “You guys don’t have to do that for me. I’ve been transforming on my own for years. No need to have buddies now.”
“Nonsense.” you say. “Anything for you, Rem. This is what you deserve.”
The friends looked at each other silently. “Are we ready to pull off the biggest student feat in Hogwarts history?” Sirius whispered.
“Aye, aye.” Everyone cheered.
Peter grinned. “We’re up to no good.”
James smiled back. “Then let us manage our mischief well.”
WIth that the group commenced, exiting the abandoned classroom they used and taking off to class. James walked by your side as you headed to astronomy together.
“I can’t wait till we pin this down. It’s going to be an epic year.” he grinned.
You chuckle. “I know you’ll end up stalking someone, Potter. Evans by the looks of it.”
He shook his head, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “Nope. I’m gonna stalk you instead. See if you’re hiding any secrets from me.”
You smile. “What secrets could I possibly be hiding from you, my boy?”
James nudged your side with a smirk. “You’re telling me a good-looking fellow like yourself isn’t sneaking off with some other lad other than their best friends.”
You shook your head, the word “good-looking” repeating itself in your mind. “No. If I did I would tell you.”
“Good.” he said, starting up the stairs to the Astronomy tower. “I don’t need some arsehole stealing you away from me.”
You roll your eyes. “No one could ever steal me from you, James. I’m not a Quaffle.”
He nods with a grin. “Yeah. I suppose you’re more of a Snitch.”
You laugh, dashing up the stairs in hopes that you wouldn’t be late for your Astronomy lesson.
---
As one could guess more pictures and sketches made their home on James Potter’s wall. It was a cluttered mess but beautiful nonetheless. It was as though the wall had an expression of its own with its array of Quidditch jerseys, photographs, art, and ticket stubs. Nobody touched the wall except James as he liked having every picture in place. His wall organized the way he liked it best… messy.
Fifth year was the first year you didn’t see James every week. He had eagerly signed up for Quidditch camp and had left for Wales with promises that’d you write about the boys and the progress on the map and Animagi projects. The projects went well with Peter completing the outline sketches of the maps, Remus filling piles of papers on Animagi transformations and finally Sirius and you gathering the needed ingredients for the Animagi process.
You had grown taller over the summer, hair lightening and your features more accentuated. Eagerly you awaited James’s return and when the time did come you had woken up early in the morning to see him arrive by Portkey on the hill. The second he appeared you had rushed over, engulfing him in a hug. You had missed his touch, his constant nagging and overall  the James Potterness that followed him around that would never fade with time.
Meanwhile, he was left out of breath, a couple of inches taller and a smile on his face as he squeezed you back. “Y/N/N! I missed you, you lazy hag.”
You laughed, messing up his hair that sat more neatly than in previous years. “And I missed you, my boy.”
The next days before school were spent catching him up on the map and at the pond by your house. With each swim you noticed the changes in James such as the six-pack the tedious trials at Quidditch camp had given him.
“Oi!” you shouted, splashing him in the face. “Whatever happened to the skinny twig that was my friend?”
He smirked. “Oi! Why are you looking?”
You bit your lip, not allowing him to see you flustered. “I’m sorry. You’re my best friend and it’s a very noticeable change!” you pointed at his toned stomach.
James tapped your nose and you stared at him in annoyance. “It’s only noticeable if you want to notice it.”
He turned around, making to walk back to the shore of the pond. You didn’t remember when James had gotten so cheeky although he’d always been that way, just never with you. Wickedly, you took the bucket that floated beside you and dunked it in the water. With a mischievous grin, you snuck up behind him, dumping the bucket of water on his head.
James turned around with a gasp, jaw dropped. You laughed, a wide smile on your lips at the sight of him drenched in his swim trunks. It wasn’t until his arms tucked along your waist, dragging you to the deeper ends of the pond did the smile drop and his return.
“Why you little…” you seethed. “James Fleamont Potter if you-”
It was too late by then, your body submerged in the water and you swam up, his laughter the first noticeable sound. You scowled as he doubled over with laughter on the shore. “I’m never letting you go to Quidditch camp again.”
The two of you walked home as the sun set, many flicks to the forehead ensuing as you did.
---
Fifth year was by far the most epic year of your Hogwarts experience. Everything was prepared for the Animagi transformation and phase two of the map project was ready to launch with Remus having gained access to the restricted section of the library.
It seemed as though the whole student body had recognized the change in James’s physique which only led to an inflation of his ego. The worst part was that Lily Evans just so happened to be one of those said noticers and while her defiance toward him was still strong, she could be caught staring in class much to James’s delight.
The Animagi process began as soon as the September full moon. While Remus suffered in the Shrieking Shack, the four other Marauders set their Mandrake leaves into their mouths preparing for an uncomfortable month of bitterness on their tongues. The leaves were held under their tongues when talking in class and for the rest of the time they resorted to note passing leaving the entirety of Hogwarts wondering why the Marauders went quiet so suddenly.
During the period between moons, they worked on their map. Stacks of books, both regular and restricted, lay among them. Each had a quill and parchment used to take note of spells or pass messages back and forth. As you worked you received a message from James in the form of a crumpled ball of parchment. You smoothed it out with a sigh.
I hate this thing. It tastes like piss and lime.
You held back a chuckle, writing your own message next to his.
You’re not backing out of this, Potter. It’s for Remus.
He stuck the leaf under his tongue in order to stick it out at you and you rolled your eyes. He scribbled a message back.
I know. I know. Doesn’t mean I can’t complain about it.
You smirked, tossing the parchment back to him.
If your scrawny arse can come back from Quidditch camp with abs then you can stomach keeping a leaf in your mouth for a month.
He smoothed it out and you went back to your work only getting in a minute's reading before the parchment bounced off your head. You scowled at his antics but he only looked at his book with a smirk. Unfolding the paper, James’s messy handwriting took up the last blank space on the parchment.
Nice to know you still think about my abs.
Your stomach squirmed at the feeling that inflamed from his words and the smirk that was on his face. You flicked him on the head, throwing the parchment into the fire before Sirius could ask what it was.
---
It took moon soaked leaves, untouched morning dew and a lightning storm to finally complete the transformations. It was on a late November night that a lightning storm finally struck and in the fifth corridor bathroom the Marauders made their first transformations. For Peter, a small rat with a wriggling tail. For Sirius, a pure black dog. For James, a large stag with mighty horns. For you, a sly fox with sleek orange fur.
Thus that night began the use of the nicknames: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs and Vixen. Dubbed by James and agreed upon all around. The final full moons of fifth year were spent prancing around Hogsmeade alongside Remus whose scars diminished with each transformation spent with his friends.
The downside of it all was the building tension in the school. With Lord Voldemort on the rise, more and more of your classmates were showing their true colors. Select Slytherins no longer wore short sleeves, their wrists always covered even in the heat of summer. Watchful eyes and protective glares, you went home for summer in worry.
Over the summer, Prongs lost his Pronginess. He wrote to Lily Evans most days of the week and now the things she sent him hung on his wall alongside you and the Marauders. An anticipated change but a scary one still. Every outing with James became more about Lily and less about anything else. You could feel your best friend slipping away and you told him so the night before the start of sixth year.
The two of you sat together in the branches of a tree. The sun hit your skin in rays and clouds passed by over your heads. James’s voice droned on about his darling Lily flower and with an unknowing malice you snapped at him. “Shut it!” you groaned.
His eyes looked over at you, hands holding your head in remorse. “Aren’t you happy for me? You’ve been acting off all summer.”
“I’ve been acting off because you’ve been acting off. I am happy for you but Evans is the only thing you talk about these days. What happened to talking about the Tornados or sneaking out together for milkshakes?”
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “It’s different now.”
“Well, it shouldn’t be.” you exclaim. “I’m not saying you shouldn’t grow up. I support the idea of you no longer being a cheeky bastard. If you’re happy with Evans then I am happy for you. But being with Evans doesn’t mean you have to forget about me or the Marauders or everything else.”
James nodded, a leaf spinning between his fingers as he frowned. “I’m sorry, Y/N/N.”
You shake your head. “I am too. Sorry I snapped at you, my boy.” your head fell onto his shoulder the same way it had done for years only this time things had changed. The weight still felt perfect on his shoulder but now his stomach turned and his breath hitched at the close proximity. Things were indeed changing although the two of you only danced around it, not wanting to address the mess you two had made.
Your head was still against his shoulder as you spoke quietly. “Just remember you’re not a Quaffle.”
He chuckled, stroking your hair affectionately. “I guess I’ll be the snitch then.”
You smiled, swimming in the feel of the James Potter you knew so well. Later that night, the two of you snuck out like old times, sharing a chocolate milkshake and sending each other glances the whole way home.
---
Sixth year was a rollercoaster. The map was finished, all the efforts poured out finally receiving an equally impressive outcome with the parchment branded with the names of the Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs and Vixen. Remus had his first kiss and Sirius decided on leaving home and James welcomed him with open arms.
The other Marauders were not impartial to the changes in your and James’s behavior. The miniscule changes in his face when you napped on his lap or the flush of your skin when he rustled your hair. In all honesty, it was as though the two of you were finally waking up and seeing what they’d been seeing all along. However, your own defiance was strong and love wasn’t simple. James was still under the impression that his heart beat for Lily Evans and you flirted around your feelings as opposed to finally confronting them.
When Gryffindor won the Quidditch season, you were the first one in James’s arms to congratulate him. He spun you around, a large grin on his face. “We won!”
You smiled. “That you did, my boy. Celebration calls and are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
He tucked a stray piece of hair behind your ear. “Hmm? Let me guess… Firewhiskey?”
“That’s my boy.” you cheer, linking your arm in his and dragging him off the field as Lily Evans watched the boy she had taken a chance on run off with someone else.
---
Firewhiskey made for a fine celebration and resulted in James and you collapsed on the floor of the Gryffindor common room at two in the morning. His glasses were crooked as he stared up at the ceiling and your hair fell in waves on the floorboards.
“Blimey, I can’t believe we won.” James chuckled, his words slurring together slightly.
“You deserve it, my boy.” you say, lightly punching his arm. “How are you feeling on this fine evening?”
His cheeks went pink but a smile overtook his features making for a hilarious expression when he shouted out. “Randy!”
You doubled over with laughter. “Gosh, James. I don’t need to hear about this.” you shove his grinning face with your palm.
“What, you've never felt randy before?” he asked, a childlike expression on his face juxtaposing such an intrusive question.
You hide your embarrassment behind a grin. “Yes, but I’m not going around telling you about it.”
He tapped your nose with the tip of his finger and your stomach swirled. “And why not?”
You turned over to your side. “I’m not sure best friends tell each other about being randy, Prongs.”
James sighed. “I guess not. But how are you feeling, my little vixen?”
With a swig of your drink and a grin you reply. “Randy.”
The two of you erupt into fits of laughter. James pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “I suppose it’s the whiskey then.”
You stare up at the ceiling. “Yeah, I suppose so.”
Both of you knew that wasn’t the case. You knew that despite the whiskey slowing the gears of your mind you still noticed James’s hand laying by your waist. You could still trace the outline of his chin and the bridge of his nose. James could still see the curve of your lips and the rise of your chest. Firewhiskey was most definitely not the cause of your randiness.
But it was the easiest thing to blame.
---
Your birthday came soon after with the Marauders celebrating in joy. Presents were exchanged with Remus giving you some books, Peter knitted (with the help of his mother) a pair of mittens for you and Sirius had gifted you a record to play on your stereo.
But James had to be extravagant. It wasn’t everyday his best friend turned seventeen and he marked the occasion with something expensive yet meaningful. When you opened the small box inside had been a silver fox ring. It’s eyes sparkling gems that twinkled as if blinking.
“James, I’m going to kill you.” you seethed. “This is way too expensive. I’m turning seventeen not fifty.”
He laughed. “Oi, woman! It’s fine. Nothing I couldn’t handle. Besides, only the best for you.”
You stared at it once more before engulfing him in a hug. “It’s beautiful, my boy. Thank you.”
His arms squeezed your waist, breathing you in and remembering the sweet smells of childhood and friendship rolled into one. His eyes closed and it was as if he had drifted off into a pleasant dream. “Of course, my little vixen.”
You made certain to flick his head after.
He was starting to regret giving it to you already.
---
Sixth year came to a close with an even more devastating end than the last. The war only continued to rage with Muggles being murdered miles away from the school, Muggle-borns driving into hiding. Sirius’s brother was slowly falling into line with the other Slytherins, devoting their hours to the torture of Muggleborns, Lord Voldemort and the likes.
James left Hogwarts heart-broken when Lily Evans broke up with him on the last day of term. “Look around!” Lily had told him. “You’re blind, James. I’m not the person you want and it’d be clear if you’d stop and take a look.”
He hadn’t known what she meant and the first week of summer was spent crying and eating ice cream on the sofa with you by his side. His room had become a mess and Lily’s letters no longer remained on the wall instead crumbled up in a ball in the trash.
Euphemia Potter couldn’t dread to see her son in the dumps any longer and she made sure to tell him so one evening after you had left.
“James, you need to get your life together, my love.” she whispered, rubbing her sons back reassuringly.
His words came out muffled into her neck. “It’s hard.”
“I know.” she soothed. “And I’m always going to be there for you.”
“Promise?” he asked.
“Promise.” she smiled. “Now how about you go clean your room. It’s become quite dirty.”
He nodded, trudging to his room with a broom. Lily’s words repeated in his mind as he entered. “You’re blind, James. Look around!” But there was nothing to look for. All he saw was his wall and a soft smile came to his face as he approached it. The Tutshill Tornado banners clung loosely to the paint and drawings of Kneazles and landscapes and trees. Pictures of the Marauders and Gryffindor lions.
And finally the ones of you.
His fingers ran across the picture in the middle. Four-year old James grinning and you licking a lolly. His eyes moved to the next one, seven years old and flying together on a broomstick. A grin broke out on his face as he saw the one with your owl in Diagon Alley, his fingers flicking your forehead. James’s mind was on hyperdrive as he examined each picture, one common factor in almost all of them.
You.
You were in many of the photos, a smile adorned on your face. If you weren’t in the photos you were the one taking them, knowing how much he adored them. Any pictures that hung were sketched by your hands. Here was James Potter’s open story, the story of his life all plastered to the wall as though it was an empty canvas. Present in every moment, every aspect, had been you. You had been the start of his book, the picture of the two of you as tots still smacked in the middle of the wall. Yes, he realized. You had started his book and had remained in it for quite some time.
Lily Evans must’ve noticed and maybe everyone else had too.
James had been blind to the message that was sprawled across his wall. He had been the one writing it, maybe not knowingly but writing it out all the same. Everyone had seen it except the writer and his subject, the message painstakingly clear years prior to its conception.
He quickly removed all the pictures from the wall, grabbing each one that hung and piling them up in his hand. The door swung open as he dashed out of his room yelling, “I’ve got to go, mum!” before running out the front door. The hills of green were illuminated by the night sky, the stars burned for James as he hopped over branches and boulders to get to you.
Your house was in the distance, your figure standing a few feet away from the home. He called out to you, your eyes turned to meet his. When he reached you, he paused, catching his breath.
“James, what on Earth are you doing here?” you laugh, placing a hand on his shoulder as he breathed.
He stood up straight, panting as he held up a photo. “This is us when we were four. The first photo we ever took together.”
You squinted at him. “Right?”
He shuffled through the pictures, fingers tracing each one. “And this is from when we were seven. That one from when we were ten. You gave me this drawing when we were six because you loved Kneazles and wanted one as a pet. That drawing was from the first year when we went skipping stones at the Black Lake and you sketched me and Peter.”
Your face melts slowly. “James, I don’t understand. You’ve had these for years.”
He exhaled, his eyes lighting up. “That’s the thing. I never saw it till now but Lily said I was blind and that she wasn’t the person I wanted.” You nod, wiping the sweat from his forehead with your sleeve and he grinned. “See that right there. That’s what I want.”
The night air bit at your spine. “You want me to wipe the sweat from your forehead?”
He shook his head with a soft chuckle. “Not exactly. I want you to wipe the sweat from my forehead for the next year and the next ten and then the next fifty. You’ve been doing it for years already and the thing is… I don’t think I want anyone else doing it for me.”
You blinked as he came closer, his palms cradling your cheek as you gazed into his eyes. “You’ve been in my life for as long as I could remember and I want you to stay in it for as long as I live. You told me once to not throw around the l-word and I said…”
“But I’ve known you my whole life.” you mutter.
“I think I’ve loved you for a while. I just didn’t know it yet.”
You shook your head as the wind rustled the branches, the windchime on your porch creating soft melodies. A large grin spread across your lips yet you continued to shake your head. “There’s a war, James.”
He smiled. “Only more the reason to be with me.”
“But I’ve been with you my whole life.” you tease.
“Oh, shut up!” he chuckles, before leaning down to capture your lips. At that moment everything made sense. All the pieces of the puzzle sifted into place and the stars applauded you from the sky and the night gale created a ruckus at your shed blindfold.
“Be my Snitch?” he asked.
You rolled your eyes, “That’s the cringiest thing you’ve ever said, my boy.”
He smirked. “Oh, but you love it.”
“Perhaps I do.” you replied, flicking his forehead for good measure.

Interrupted Slumber
__
Remus Lupin x Fem. Reader
Warnings: None.
A/N: I want a Remus so mf BAD in my life.
Word Count: 1,296
“Let’s talk about it, yeah?”
__
Tumblr media
There was a faint light coming from outside, spilling into your bedroom through the cracked window. A gentle breeze flowed through the room, leaving your skin cool and your body comfortable. Your eyelids fluttered every few minutes or so as you continued to float through a deep, resting sleep. The clean sheets were draped over your waist and legs, keeping the easy wind from keeping you too cool. The inky black skies were dotted with little sprinkles of stars. It was perfect conditions for a productive sleep. You were quite at peace.
However, it wasn’t the same for your husband lying next to you.
Remus had broken out into a sweat, his legs shifting uncomfortably around under the sheets as his mind raced with disturbing images. His breathing was heavy and rapid in response to the nightmare he was having, his head moving in distress on his pillow. He had begun to let out scared whimpers and low cries, which brought you from your sleep. It took you a minute to realize that Remus was having a bad dream, and he was what woke you up.
You rested a hand on his shoulder, shaking gently to keep from startling him more.
“Remus, darling, wake up.” Your drowsy voice whispered out.
He suddenly shot up in bed with a sharp gasp, his heart pumping in his ears and throbbing in his head at being awoken so abruptly. His eyes darted around the room frantically, relief falling on his features at the sight of you looking worriedly at him.
“Oh, thank Merlin...” He croaked out, falling into your frame.
You wasted no time taking him into your hold, his head resting on your chest as you stroked his damp hair. You hushed him, rubbing his back carefully to get him to calm down a little. His breathing was muffled in your shirt as he tried to fight through the panic response, his entire body was shaking violently. You spoke to him sweetly and quietly.
“You’re okay. I’m here. It was just a dream.” You consoled him, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
You felt terrible for him. You knew how much he needed sleep, and you always hated when he didn’t get it. He didn’t say anything, but he did something that almost sent you into tears yourself.
He started to cry.
Remus never cried. You would definitely consider him a sensitive guy, and he was much more in touch with his emotions than most males that you knew. Despite this, you had only seen Remus cry two other times in the many years you had been together. The first was when he proposed to you, and the second was when you got married. And even then, those had been happy tears. So this was something seriously upsetting to him.
These were not tears of joy kind of sobs. These were gut wrenching, heartbreaking, truly broken down kind of cries.
“Oh, Remus...” You called out, bringing his head from your chest so he’d look at you; “What is it?”
He was still quivering, his eyes endlessly pooling with tears and you watched helplessly as they fell down his cheeks.
“Kiss me.” He said more as a beg than anything else.
You almost chuckled, thinking he was trying to be funny to diffuse the situation, but there wasn’t a hint of entertainment on his face.
“What, love?” You asked.
His clammy hands came to your face, looking into your eyes.
“Kiss me, please. I need to know that you’re actually here.” He pleaded.
You kissed him without hesitation, your heart aching at how bad this had rattled him. He kissed you so desperately that you would’ve thought that he hadn’t seen you in years. His lips were quivering on yours, his crying only ceasing for a few seconds. He pulled away, a little less frantic, but still shaken up. He sighed deeply.
“It was so real. I was...I was sure that you...” He trailed off, another harsh bawl erupting from his soul.
You pushed his hair back from his forehead so you could see his full face, persuading him to talk it out.
“Let’s talk about it, yeah?” You suggested.
He nodded with another whimper, a fruitless attempt to stop his crying. His voice cracked and quaked as he spoke.
“I’ve had dreams like that before...but this one was so different. I didn’t even know I was dreaming,” He explained; “I was watching you, but I wasn’t really there. It was like I was watching a memory.”
He stopped for a moment, sniffling a few times before continuing with his story. He held your hand, squeezing it when he was fighting a choked up sob.
“And then I showed up, but it was a full moon,” He said, knowing you’d understand what he was implying; “Moony was so angry and he just attacked and I couldn’t do anything. Before I knew it, he had...”
You hushed him again when he fell off into crying once more. He didn’t have to say it. You knew that Moony had killed you in his dream. It was something that Remus had always been afraid of. Scratch that, he was petrified of it. Remus had mentioned to you in passing that he sometimes had bad dreams about Moony hurting people, but you guessed that you had never been the victim until tonight’s nightmare.
“Remus, I know it frightened you,” You said, wiping tears away from his scarred cheeks; “But I’m here, love. I’m right here in front of you. Moony didn’t hurt me...you didn’t hurt me.” You convinced him.
As relieving as it was to know that nothing had happened and that you were safe, Remus still felt this sense of dread. He knew what Moony could do, and he tried his best not to think about what could happen.
His shaking had slowed some, and his heart and breathing were going at a more normal pace. You held him again, his arms wrapping around your midsection and his head resting against your chest once more. He listened to your steady heartbeat, another reminder that you were there and totally fine. You hummed softly, rocking him back and forth just slightly. While you never ever wanted Remus to feel upset or hurt, you still cherished these moments where he was vulnerable. The moments where he retreated to you for comfort.
You took advantage of any moment to show him love and affection. He was such a pure, gentle soul that didn’t deserve the tribulations he had to face.
“I love you. You’re okay.” You said again, making sure that he knew.
He raised his head, moving to sit upright. He knew there was no way he’d be sleeping for the rest of the night, but he didn’t mind. As long as you were there, he didn’t need it.
“I love you, my beautiful girl,” He replied, the last of his tears fading away; “Thank you for being there for me...and I’m sorry for waking you.”
You assured him that there was nowhere else on the planet that you’d rather be, telling him that he was more important than sleep. Now that he was well into settling down, he noted how disheveled you looked from being abruptly brought from your sleep. He knew you’d want to go back to bed soon, which was fine.
“Kiss me again?” He requested with a slight smirk.
You gave him a smile, knowing that this time he was just being cheeky. You obliged though, kissing him and keeping him close until he was fully feeling like himself again. He didn’t get much sleep for the rest of the night, but you were there with him.
And that was all he needed.

CONGRATULATIONS! You deserve all the attention coz your fics are AMAZING! (and u too obv it goes without saying)
Anyway the prompt is
Child/Kid (possibly Teddy or Harry but)
Pairing Wolfstar and I guess rating whatever
(I just saw a fanart and Idk I felt the need of more raising Harry or Teddy fics in my life)
(I'm sorry I know it should have been one word but I can't not rambling it's physically impossible for me, forgive me)
Oh, thank you so much, love, I'm tearing up just a little but like it's fine, yeah, whatever... 😭💜 I hope you'll enjoy this one!
Read other drabbles here!
“Because you’re my child and I say so!”
Sirius doesn’t know what compelled him to blurt this out in the middle of an argument. Surely nothing could excuse a statement like this, not even the infuriating tantrum Harry threw over being allowed into the Order as if the whole point of it was not to keep him safely away from the heat out on the streets.
Harry’s eyes widen and he freezes, his mouth still gaping with the argument now stuck in his throat. Sirius tenses up all over, already resigning himself to whatever he has to say, none of which would be harsh enough for this sort of slip-up.
He feels Remus’ supporting hand between his shoulder blades, a not-so-subtle reminder that there is someone to catch him if he fell.
“He’s got a point,” Remus says smoothly, and only Sirius can hear the smile in his voice that is fond and proud at the same time.
Harry exhales through his nose and swallows, impossibly green eyes trained searchingly on Sirius. Lily’s eyes, not Sirius’. Their child, not his.
“Fine,” he says as if Sirius didn’t just betray the memory of his parents. “I’ll be in my room.”

Silly fun challenge prompt: what languages do you associate with the Sides/what would be the 2nd language each Side learn?
For example I am a big fan of Hispanic (Spanish speaking) Creativitwins fanon. And c! Thomas too could've learnt Spanish in high school and the fact his love interest is hispanic too just makes perfect sense-
And in contrast to Hispanic twins I headcanon Janus as a francophone (French speaking) for two reasons: 1) it was still lingua franca around Victorian era, his aesthetic inspiration and 2) dividing American high school by Spanish class vs. French class is like causing Civil War (I was and still am a language nerd, so I learnt both languages, which was a mistake but the kind of mistake that was worth it when you think about it later)
German suites Logan since lots of famous philosophers are German. I associate Japanese or Korean with Virgil since those two are really dominant in the current subculture world (and maybe our emo could've been inspired and turn into E-boy - wow that sounds terrifying)
I don't have strong preference on Patton's but Italian sounds nice, since all those music and dessert and anything sweet are often from Italy. And maybe 'Orange' can be some language that sounds harsh like Russian, so he can murmur in that in sleep and scares everyone else
I know you're in Europe: 1) you use GMT and 2) Americans wouldn't care about Eurovision. So I wonder how you would think based on your European experience!
Oooh, I like this! As European Who Studied Languages, I definitely approve this and I'll gladly add my two cents about which languages the sides should learn.
_________
Roman: He canonically knows Spanish and that's perfect like that. Spanish is a romantic language, someone speaks Spanish and you can't help but swoon. It’s a great choice for the Side responsible for romance and passion.
_________
Remus: Remus isn't just intrusive thoughts, but there’s a very high chance he’s also responsible for Thomas' sexual urges. So, what is the language made for sex? You’re right, it’s French. French is sexy. You can say anything in French and bam, ✨sexy ✨.
"Je sors la poubelle." Sexy, isn't it? Well, I just said "I'm taking out the trash". See? Very sexy.
(French people, please confirm my words. We all know it’s true)
_________
Janus: Your points are incredibly valid and I love them. But if we should choose among all languages, I would love Janus to be one of the very few (extremely few) people in the world who can speak Latin.
I know Latin is a dead language, but it would be great - and not just because of the connection with his name.
Let’s consider that the other Romance languages, despite evolving from Latin, cannot entirely understand it, because they all changed a lot through the centuries after mixing with the Germanic ones. On the other hand, the Germanic languages (English, German, Swedish and so on) are part of a completely different group, only slightly influenced by Latin, so they cannot understand it.
In other words, Janus would speak a language that only sounds familiar - and maybe you can grasp a couple words here and there if you know a romance language, but the true meaning is hidden. What is he actually saying? Who knows. Is he actually cursing someone? Who knows. After all, do you understand Latin? Yeah, me neither.
If I have to pick a language that is still spoken today instead, I think I'll join you with French. Your points are valid and French is a very elegant language, fitting for Janus’ whole aesthetic. So yes, French could work.
_________
Logan: German is a great choice and you are absolutely right with your point about the philosophers. Also German is a language of harsh sounds and strict grammar rules - for example:
declensions that should be used accordingly for articles, adjectives and nouns
specific verbs for specific meanings
words made by putting together shorter words (like Haustürschlüssel.  Haustür means “front door”, Schlüssel means “key” -> this word means “front door’s key”)
sentences that should follow a specific construction, with parts of the compound verb after the noun and part at the end of the sentence. And secondary phrases also have a specific syntax and should always be introduced by a comma
In other words, it's a very organized language and I think it would fit Logan.
But also, considering that almost all words related to science and philosophy come from Greek, I think Logan should at least understand some Greek. As a treat.
(Also because Greek is another incredibly complicated language, so if someone has the patience to learn it, it’s definitely Logan.)
_________
Virgil: oh my gosh, I never thought about an eastern language for Virgil. In a way, it would be a very peculiar choice and I kinda like it. Japanese and Korean are extremely complicated languages, they have a very specific alphabet (I'm especially thinking about the Japanese one, that even asks for a specific direction to write words) and require a lot of work (and memory) to learn them.
But Virgil is also a poet and when I think of poets and sonnets my first connection is with the french ennui, le mal du vivre and especially Baudelaire and his works. Virgil would appreciate Baudelaire a lot. So French, again.
But hey, there’s too much French now. So I’ll pick the other european literature full of sadness: the russian one.
Russian is supposed to be a big scary language and its alphabet is weird and omg what if they're cursing us? But if you learn it a little bit, you’ll find out that Russian has a lot of soft/open sounds (due to a good use of vowels) and it's very poetic.
So the language itself is a bit like Virgil: he seems scary and evil at a first glance, but if you learn about him, he's actually kinder than he looks.
But never underestimate Russian, because just like Anxiety, fear is just behind the corner: you start learning it and wow, there is just one present tense, one past tense and one future tense? This is great, what a wonderful language!
And then, before you’ll realize it, you will find out that each verb has a “doppelganger” used for entirely different purposes AND there a gazillion verbs of motion and you will end up crying on the floor, because there are just too many verbs - and look, there are also one trillion particles you can put before these verbs and they give them EVEN MORE MEANINGS.
No, this isn't entirely based on my personal experience, what makes you think that.
_________
Patton: I have never thought about Patton learning another language, because English just fits him too well.
But when you proposed Italian... well, my heart just wiped out everything else. There is nothing here, only Patton speaking Italian.
So yes, Patton's second language should be Italian. No, it must be Italian. Because French is the language of sex, Spanish is the language of love, but if you want to declare your eternal love to someone, you use Italian. Do you want to marry someone? Italian. Do you want to tell your significant other how much you adore them? Italian. Italian has one million ways to express love and Patton should use them all with his kiddos.
And yes, Italian is also associated with warm people, warm places and good food, all things Patton deserves and should enjoy. So Italian is a big yes.
_________
Orange: since Orange is a mystery, I am a bit torn between these two languages:
1) Esperanto: This language is amazing, because it isn’t a natural language, born like all others, but it has been built by a man, who wanted to create an universal language in order to foster world peace and international understanding.
So this language has been created to be as simple as possible, with a very regular grammar (unlike all other natural languages) and its words all have references to other language groups (romance, germanic, slavic, indo-europeans, finno-ugric languages and so on).
And if you actually listen to it (especially if you know some latin languages) you will find it weirdly understandable. I found this video in particular and I was impressed by how strangely familiar esperanto sounds.
And... that’s it, I just think it would be kinda poetic that the last side knows a language that all others can use and understand.
2) A Greenlandic language. Why? Because they are insanely polysynthetic.
What does that mean? If in German you can make words by putting together other two/three words (like in the example I used before), in the Greenlandic languages you can build an entire sentence by putting together nouns, verbs, articles and everything else. All together in one single word, whose meaning can be translated with an entire sentence in another language.
Do you want an example? Here is an example from Wikipedia: tuntussuqatarniksaitengqiggtuq.
Yes, this is a word.
This word is from the Yupik language and means "He had not yet said again that he was going to hunt reindeer.". And this word is made of:
tuntu- (= reindeer)
ssur-  (= hunt)
qatar- (future tense)
ni- (= say)
ksaite- (negative)
ngqiggte- (= again)
uq  (3rd.sing.IND)
Is this insane? This is fucking insane. Do you want to be scared? This is real fear. What the heck. How. Why.
You know what? This is perfect for Orange, I’ll leave Esperanto to Thomas. Orange deserves to be this scary. I can already see the other sides quiver before him.
_________
And so, here are my guesses! If someone has other ideas, feel free to add yours and tell us why, so we can all have a nice discussion :D

For @flowercrownroman Prompt: Hogwarts Jily - before they were dating but while they were on good terms, maybe an interaction where James sticks up for her and she gives the "I can handle myself'' argument.
Hope you like it!  (2.5k)
“Evans.”
Lily kept walking, hoping she was far enough down the corridor that he’d assume she couldn’t hear him.
“Oi, Evans!”
Her pace increased, she was almost to the corner. Once there, she could duck into a bathroom and hide until the coast was clear.
“Lily, I know you can hear me. Wait up.”
Lily sighed as she came to a halt. Used the precious few seconds she had until he was upon her to wave her wand several times, feeling magic spread over her features, soothing her skin.
James was already stopped in front of her when she turned around, less than a foot away. “Finally, Evans. Where’s the fire?”
“In the dungeons,” She did her best to smirk. Judging by the frown on James’ face, it wasn’t a great effort. “What are you doing? You’re not on rounds tonight.”
She would know, given she was on duty.
“Kitchen raid,” James reached up to ruffle his hair, looking a bit sheepish. “Remus needed chocolate.”
Lily’s features softened immediately, “He’s out of the Wing?”
James nodded, “Just after dinner.”
“How’s he doing?”
“Bit rough,” James shrugged. “You know Remus, he won’t complain until it’s pretty much death’s door.”
“Yeah,” Lily nodded. “Sounds like him. Give him my love, will you? And let him know I’ve got notes from Runes. Merlin knows, Peter’s probably aren’t any use to him. I’m pretty sure he fell asleep five minutes into the lecture.”
“Sounds about right,” James said with a laugh.
Lily felt her cheek start to tingle and frowned internally. The glamours shouldn’t have been wearing off that quickly. She mustn’t have focused enough when she was casting. Or there were too many in quick succession. Time to go, in any case. “Well, I’ll let you get back to your mission then.”
James didn’t move, a crease between his brows. “Everything alright, Evans? You look a bit peaky.”
“Yeah, fine,” Lily tried her best to smile. “Tired, is all. Shift’s almost over though.”
He still didn't leave, though she willed him too. “Have you had any trouble?”
Lily shook her head quickly, vehemently. “Hardly seen a soul.”
“Right,” James looked even more suspicious. “Even in the dungeons?”
His question was too pointed. Too knowing. Lily’s heart started to beat faster. “Guess I’ve been lucky,” she said carefully. “Quiet night.”
“Lucky’s not the word, I don’t think,” James’ hand reached forward, toward her face. Toward the spreading tingle that now covered half of it. “Evans -”
Lily cut in before he could start his next question. “What are you doing down this way, anyway? The kitchens are on the other side of the castle.”
“I, uh,” James ruffled his hair again. “I saw you as I crossed the main corridor, I guess. Wanted to check in.”
“I didn’t come from the main corridor,”  Lily had used a secret passage to get to this floor. One she wasn’t even sure the Marauders knew about.
“Really, huh,” James’ eyes darted away from her, before settling back on her face. “I could have sworn I saw you.”
“Were you following me?” Lily knew she was onto something when James ruffled his hair for a third time. “Why were you following me?”
“I don’t know, Evans,” James’ voice was scornful, harsh, where before it had been light. The change made her blink. But his next words stopped her in her tracks. “Why were you talking to four baby Death Eaters down in the dungeons just now?”
Lily paled, or she would have, had she not been covered in glamours. Glamours that were fading by the second, if the tingles that had now spread across her entire face were anything to go by. She took a step back, and then another. Used the wand hidden in the folds of her robes to surreptitiously strengthen the charms. “They were out after hours. I was directing them back to their Common Room.”
James followed her, step for step. “And they went? Just like that?”
“You say that like they wouldn’t listen to the Head Girl,” Lily lifted her chin in challenge.
“That lot wouldn’t listen to me, and I’m a pure-” James cut off before he finished the word.
But Lily knew what he would have said, “Pureblood? They won’t listen to another pureblood, even one that’s Head Boy, is that what you were going to say? They won’t listen to the pureblood Head Boy, so why would they listen to the Mudblood Head Girl?”
“Don’t say that,” James’ teeth clenched, the tick in his jaw, always a sign of barely concealed anger, jumping out at her.
“It’s just a word, Potter,” Lily gritted her own teeth, biting the inside of her lip to prevent any tears from falling.
She’d shed enough tears already tonight.
“You shouldn’t let them-”
“Let them, what? Insult me? Degrade me? Put down my family, my home, my magic?” Lily felt angry, sounded angry, even though she knew she wasn’t directing it to the right person. “They don’t exactly need permission, Potter.”
“Evans,” James took another step toward her. “What happened down there?”
“How do you even know they were there? That I saw them?” Lily took a step away. “Were you spying on me?  I told you not to use that bloody map to spy on me.”
“I wasn’t!” he insisted. “I was checking if Filch was about, so I could get Remus’ chocolate, and I just happened to see the impromptu meeting outside Sluggy’s room.”
“And you thought you’d glide on in, save me like the white knight you think you are?” Lily wasn’t sure why she was attacking him. He’d clearly worried about her, enough that he’d come looking. It made her heart clench inside her chest, warmth flood her chilled body. And yet she was attacking him.
Meanwhile the tingles had started again. It really was not her night.
James hands balled into fists at his side. “I wasn’t trying to rescue you. I just wanted to make sure they didn’t give you any grief.”
“They didn’t,” she lied blatantly. “I’m fine. I can take care of myself.”
“I know you can,” he was quiet. “That’s not what this is about.”
“Well, great,” Lily started to turn, knowing she had seconds left before her concealment charms faded. “Off to the kitchens with you, then. And then back to the Tower. I never saw you.” She waved listlessly, not waiting for his reply before taking several hurried steps.
“There’s blood on your hand.”
Lily froze, facing away from him. She looked down, realised that indeed her left hand was smeared with red. “Shit,” she muttered under her breath. “It’s ink,” she said with a raised voice. “It’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing,” James reached out, pulling on her shoulder to turn her before she could stop him, her attention still caught by the blood on her hand. “Evans-”
He stopped, eyes on her face, widening so comically Lily would have laughed if she hadn’t felt on the verge of tears. Tears of panic, anger and overwhelming bloody despair. It was extraordinarily clear that the glamour charms she’d cast had failed spectacularly and he could now see what she had been desperate to hide.
“Lily, what happened?”
His eyes roamed over her face, taking in the swelling and no doubt bruising around her right eye. The blood that ran from her nose, still fresh, trailing off her lips, her chin. The painful welts of a burn that encircled her neck, in the shape of hands despite a wand having carried out the action. The rip in the front of her shirt, also smeared in blood from the large gash underneath. The blood had transferred to her hand when she’d tried to hold herself together.
“Nothing,” Lily said. She backed up several steps, her eyes on his as he stood frozen. “Nothing happened, I’m fine. Worse than it looks, you should see the other guy. All that kind of thing. I’ve got to finish rounds, I’ll see you -”
“Stop,” James had caught her before she could turn again. Before she could hightail it out of there, recast the charms and pretend this had never happened. “You are not fine.”
Another step had her back against the wall. Nowhere left to run. She refused to meet his gaze, not wanting to see the concern. The pity. She focused on his left ear instead. “It’s nothing.”
“It is not nothing.”
“Leave it, Potter. It’s naught to do with you.”
His expression darkened, “I’ll fucking kill them.”
“No, you won’t,” Lily’s eyes flew to his now, as her hand reached out to grip his forearm, preventing him from following through on his words.
“Evans, they can’t get away with this,” James looked as distressed as she felt, but for a different reason. “We have to go to Dumbledore.”
“You can’t,” Lily’s eyes flashed, her hand held him tighter. It should have been painful by now, but James looked as if he couldn’t even feel her. “You can’t tell anyone.”
“What are you talking about, Evans?” James shook his head. “You’re Head Girl. They can’t just do this.”
“Exactly,” her chin lifted, her face set. “I’m Head Girl. No one can know.”
“You’re not making sense.”
“They bested me, Potter,” tears pricked at her eyes as she croaked the words out. They were tight in her throat, making a hoarse, rasping sound. “They bested me, and I’m the Head Girl. If they can best me, they can best anyone. No one can know.”
“It was four on one. You can’t expect to win with four on one.”
“That doesn’t matter.” He didn’t get it. She had to make him understand. “That part doesn’t matter. All that the students will remember, is that those cowards picked a fight with the Head Girl, the Muggleborn Head Girl, and they won. Muggleborns are going to be terrified, and everyone else isn’t going to want to cross them. Worse, they might join them, just so they aren’t next. We can’t let that happen.” She pulled on his wrist, urging him to agree. “James, no one can know.”
He watched her for a long time. His eyes held hers, searching them. She could see the wealth of emotions flicking through his gaze as he processed what she’d said. Anger, of course, so furious, so raw it seemed like he was burning. Disbelief, reluctance, defiance. A general unwillingness to go along with her request. Sadness, as his eyes flicked over her again, concern and worry taking over his expression.
Lily dropped her head before she could see the pity.
Who wouldn’t pity her? She was weak, pathetic, a failure. She was meant to be a symbol of hope, a sign that the Death Eater’s were wrong. She was meant to be so strong, so powerful, so talented, that no one could ever doubt her place in this world. She was meant to be faultless, flawless, infallible.
She had failed.
A touch to her cheek, careful and timid, brought her back to him. James held her face gently in his palm, using his thumb to lift her chin even higher. He wasn’t looking at her face, Lily realised, as she tried to look at his. His attention was focused on her neck, his other hand bringing his wand tip to her neck. Even the lightest contact to the fragile skin made her whimper.
“Sorry,” James muttered. “Just, hold still a sec.” Almost as soon as he’d finished speaking a coolness spread across her neck. It was a welcome relief, taking the pain away with it.
“Thanks,” she whispered, looking up at him. He was closer than she thought he’d ever been before. It was almost possible to count his eyelashes behind his glasses, he was so close.
“I’m not finished.” He used his thumb to move her head this way and that, prodding and casting in succession.
Lily felt the magic wash over her again and again, and with each wave, the pain lessened. Her shoulders sagged in relief as the tension rained away with the pain. She felt his wand move to her stomach, where the biggest slicing hex had hit her, and tried not to react as he carefully pulled her shirt up, eyes flicking to hers until she nodded her permission, to see what needed to be done. His hand was warm on her skin, and despite the situation, Lily wasn’t surprised to find she didn’t mind his touch.
Welcomed it, really.
“Have I missed anything?” Her shirt dropped back down but his hand stayed where it was on her side. His gaze roamed over her again, finally meeting her eyes again. There was not pity there, only concern. Concern, and caring, and something else that she couldn’t quite name. She only knew it made her feel warm.
Lily shook her head, “Think that was it. Thank you.”
James shrugged, “You don’t need to thank me. I care about you. You know that.”
“I do know that. And I care about you,” she attempted a smile. ”How things have changed this year.”
“Not so far if you’re still trying to hide stuff from me.”
“I didn’t want you to worry,” she reached for his arm again, but ended up holding his hand. “I knew you wouldn’t want to keep it quiet.”
He threaded his fingers into hers, squeezing even as he sighed heavily. “I want them to pay. They don’t deserve to breathe the same air as you.”
“You can’t,” Lily started. She reached up, pushing his hair back out of his eyes, off his glasses. “I don’t want people to think that I’m not every bit as deserving of magic as they are.”
“You’re being stupid. No one will think that.” His fingers smoothing up and down her side, clenching on her hip. She tried not to shiver at the contact. He was looking at her in the way that made her feel warm again.
Lily didn’t try to argue with him. Instead, she braced a hand on his chest, pushing up onto her tiptoes to make up the difference in their heights. With James already looking down at her, it didn’t take much to press her lips to his. The touch was soft, sweet, a balm to the terror she’d felt much earlier in the night.
“What was that for?” James asked when she pulled back, dropping down onto her heels. He looked
Her hand stayed on his chest, fingers curled into his robes as she smiled. “You said I was being stupid. Thought I may as well live up to it.”
His lips twitched at both ends, “Kissing me is stupid?”
She nodded, slowly, her grin widening. “Very.”
James leaned down, so close their noses brushed. “Care to be stupid again? I could get on board with that kind of stupid.”
“In for a penny, in for a -” Lily didn’t even get to finish the saying before James’ hand buried in her hair and his arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her firm against him as his lips captured hers again.

“Oi, Evans, wait!”
Lily groaned as the bespectacled boy jogged towards her. Not this again she thought to herself. Despite her less than happy expression, James smiled kindly towards her. She nodded to him hoping that he would carry on and say whatever he had approached her for.
“Would you want to go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?” Lily noticed that he was fumbling with his sleeve as he asked, and could tell that he was nervous. His anxiousness made her feel a bit bad about what she was to say next.
“James I-” She started, her lips pursing into a frown, but James already knew what she was going to say.
James smiled sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck with his hand. “It’s no worries,” Lily avoided eye contact with him, as he began to walk away. “Just let me know if you change your mind.” James said as he continued down the corridor.
-
“Lily, I honestly don’t know what you’re on about. James asks you out every chance he gets,” Marlene said, glaring at the redhead as she plopped down onto her bed, “you just never accept his offers.”
Lily looked to Mary for help, but had little luck as Mary silently agreed with Marlene. The three had just come back from dinner and were painting each other’s nails.
“Why are we even talking about this, Mary was asking you about Dorcas. What does that have to do with James and I?” Lily pulled her hand away from Mary, smudging the nail that Mary was painting.
“So you agree that there is something going on between you and James?” Mary questioned, ignoring the fact that Lily had ruined the work that she had been doing for the last twenty minutes. Marlene laughed, noticing the flush on Lily’s face.
“We all saw you two today before potions, don’t be coy!” Marlene egged on. Lily got up from her position on the floor, rolling her eyes while doing so.
“I don’t know how many times that I have to tell you that James isn’t into me. Neither of you will ever get it. A guy like him wouldn’t want to date someone like me.” Mary glanced at Marlene, the air in the room starting to become a bit tense. Lily cleared her throat, hoping that neither of the girls across from her would press further.
Mary and Marlene were not unfamiliar to Lily’s harsh demeanor. At this point, they knew Lily like the back of their hands. They knew what she meant when she said “someone like me”. It was far too often the two consoled Lily when she cried to them about a cruel comment that someone had made to her about her weight.
Although Lily had been dealing with these comments all throughout her sixteen years of life, her insecurities only grew as she became a teenager. It was quite difficult for her to not compare herself to her thinner classmates, regardless of how much it hurt to think about.
“You are beautiful Lils,” Lily looked at Mary as she spoke, awaiting the rest of her sentence, but was met without any other words.
Marlene and Mary’s affection towards her was something that Lily had to get used to at first. Lily had never been comfortable with people complimenting her physical appearance because of the conditions that usually accompanied the compliment.
Nearly every compliment that Lily could remember was backhanded, until she had met her two best friends. Whether it was her aunt congratulating her on losing some amount of weight or the uncomfortable, “You’re pretty for a big girl.” Regardless of how hard she tried, the comments about her body never seemed to cease.
“Mary is right, Lily, you are stunning. You don’t have to go on a date with James, but give him some credit. He’s not a total arse.” Marlene said, trying to deescalate the situation.
Lily nodded, but even their kind words couldn’t soothe her anxiety. She looked toward the clock on her side table and noticed the time.
“I have to go. Head Girl duties call.” Lily quickly grabbed the robe on her bed, bringing it along in case she got cold while making her rounds. Marlene and Mary flashed sympathetic smiles at the redhead as she left the dorm, knowing she would have to go face James.
-
Surprisingly, James was waiting for her when Lily reached the bottom of the steps. Lily held back a laugh, noticing him struggling to attach his “Head Boy” pin onto his uniform. You would think someone as smart as James could figure out a simple pin.
“Let me help you,” Lily said, breaking James out of his deep concentration. He looked at her with appreciation before handing the gold pin her way.
Lily tugged the front of his robes slightly before attaching the pin onto it. She hummed in satisfaction before pulling away from him. As she pulled away she noticed James was staring at her quite intensely.
Lily flushed as they made eye contact. She couldn’t deny that James was attractive, but she didn’t let herself dwell on it.
“We should probably get going, I don’t want to be out all night.” Lily stated firmly starting to head out into the corridor, James following close behind her.
As the two walked around the castle, Lily distanced herself from James. She honestly did not want to deal with any awkward conversation. At this point, she had brushed James off far too many times to count, and it made her unbelievably anxious to have to do it again.
Just as they had turned the corner towards the middle courtyard, the pair heard a loud boom near the transfiguration classroom.
“Oh great, just what I need right now,” Lily thought to herself as she and James headed into the classroom. Just as they walked into the room, the door shut behind them quite forcefully. There had seemed to be no one in the room besides the two of them. The brunet grabbed the handle of the door quickly, realizing that it was stuck.
“You don’t happen to have your wand… do you?” The boy looked towards Lily with a concerned look on his face.
Lily patted the pocket of her robe before realizing that this was in fact not her robes, but rather Marlene’s. She huffed out a breath of air. “You would think I would notice the size difference” Lily silently cursed at herself before looking towards a confused James.
“This isn’t my robe, I must have grabbed Marlene’s before I left. Why don’t you have your wand? Kind of irresponsible, no?” Lily scolded, hoping that he was messing with her about not having his wand. After her conversation with Marlene and Mary, Lily was not feeling her best, and it became very apparent to James as she bit her nails anxiously.
“Hey, you also forgot your wand, but you don’t see me complaining.” James was joking, but when he looked at Lily once more, he noticed that her eyes were watering. “I’m just kidding, Lily, are you alright?”
Lily frowned at the brunet’s apology, she couldn’t stand him acting like he cared so deeply for her. The two were barely even acquaintances, and she didn’t feel like explaining all of her anxiety quirks to someone she hardly knew.
“Please don’t do that. Don’t act like you care.” Lily said forcefully, meeting eyes with the brown-eyed boy. The two had now moved away from the door and were sitting on the floor near the wall opposite to the door.
Once more, James looked at the redhead in confusion. He racked his brain to think about every interaction he had with Lily that day, before it dawned on him.
“Is this about me asking you out? I never meant to make you uncomfortable- you see I thought Hogsmeade could even be a group thing. Remus and Sirius would also come- wait I guess they’re a couple, but it doesn’t have to be a double date… you could bring Mary-” James went on, his cheeks a soft pink, before Lily cut him off.
“Listen, James, I don’t know if you get some sort of kick out of asking me out, but whatever angle you’re playing at I’d rather not be a part of it,” Lily was visibly distraught now, her jaw was clenched and a single tear was rolling down her cheek. For what felt like the hundredth time, James looked to her in genuine confusion.
James had nothing to say, and as he stared at her mouth ajar, she started up again.
“You could have at least picked a better joke. Asking out the fat girl is so overdone. I didn’t think that you of all people would be so awful,”
Lily was really crying now. “Marlene told me that you were sweeter than before, and I really gave you the benefit of the doubt...but here we are and you’re still laughing at me!” Lily didn’t mean to blow up at James, but at this point they had been stuck in the classroom for what had felt like hours.
Lily wrapped her arms around herself, her head hanging down. She knew that James was staring at her, but she couldn’t find it in herself to care. Maybe now he’ll leave me alone.
Both of the Gryffindors were quiet for a long minute before James decided to break the silence.
“Lily, I don’t know what I’ve said to make you think that I’m joking, but I promise you I’m not. I get it if you don’t want to go out with me, but I just need you to know that I would never ask you out as a joke. Why would you think that?”
Lily finally pulled her head up and looked at James. His brow was furrowed and the expression on his face was unreadable. She took a breath, calming herself down.
“What do you mean, James? I mean look at me.”
There it was. That feeling. It was unavoidable at this point. All of the insecurity that Lily had shoved down was threatening to spill out. It was infrequent that Lily really confronted her self-image, but her conversation with James forced everything to surface.
James could almost see the gears in Lily’s head turning, it was very obvious that she was thinking hard about something. He sighed, not wanting to press her further.
“Lily, I don’t know what happened to make you think that I was joking, but I would truly be honored to take you out.” James said cautiously. He couldn’t tell if this would upset her further. Lily was looking at him in speculation, but at some point she had stopped crying.
She was looking at him, not speaking, almost as if to tell him to keep going. For months she had thought James was playing some cruel prank on her, but they were alone now. There wasn’t some audience to laugh at her if she told James how she felt. And even if he was joking, the pair were by themselves, and Lily could deny accepting James' invitation for a date to anyone that James would tell.
As she looked at him, she noticed that James genuinely seemed horrified at her accusation against him. If she wasn’t completely sure that James was being sincere, she would not have said another word, but for whatever reason, Lily trusted James.
“I’m sorry for yelling at you,” Lily was sorry, “I don’t know what it is. There’s just something about someone like you wanting to go out with someone like me that seems… off.”
James frowned. He wasn’t oblivious to what Lily was talking about, but he really couldn’t understand why Lily was insecure. There weren't enough words to describe the beauty that Lily emitted.
“Lily, you’re the smartest person I know-”
“That’s what everyone says, James.” Lily laughed softly, watching James squirm at her words. She knew that he was nervous, but it was funny to see him care so much.
“Oh, so you do want me to be mean to you?” James’ tone was serious, but there was a lighthearted look in his eyes.
Lily rolled her eyes, “Haha, very funny. I don’t even think you could be mean to me. I think the last time I saw someone this nervous was when Marlene tried out for quidditch during second year.” The two laughed, James nudging Lily with his arm playfully.
As their laughter died down, James remarked, “Enough with the jokes, though. You’re actually the most beautiful person I’ve ever met,” Even after he was met with a glare from Lily, he continued. “You’ve been crying and you still look lovely, Lily.”
Lily sighed. First Mary and Marlene, now him? Lily felt embarrassed, but James was still staring at her, and adoringly at that. The soft rouge tint that marked his cheeks was still prominent.
“Well, you’re cute when you’re nervous,” Lily retorted, smiling as James flushed a deeper shade of red, “But I’m sure you get that often.”
James hummed, “Blimey, I don’t think anyone has seen me as nervous as I am right now, honest.” Lily apologized once more for assuming the worst in him.
The two small talked for a long while after that, simply basking in each other’s presence. James learned about Lily’s family, and Lily learned about what it was like at the Potter’s residence. Something about their dynamic felt natural.
Their conversation was halted as someone opened the door. There, standing in pajamas, was a distraught looking Mary and an annoyed Professor Mcgonagall.
Mary started, “There you are! You were gone for nearly two hours. After a while, I thought I should go check on you.”
“That’s enough, Ms. Macdonald,” Professor Mcgonagall said, “What were you two even doing in here?”
Before Lily could start to explain, James cut her off. “We were making our rounds down the corridor, when there was a loud noise coming from the classroom. When we walked in here, the door was jammed and neither of us had our wands.”
Mcgonagall looked skeptical at their story, but decided not to press the issue any further. With a gesture of her hand, the three Gryffindors started walking towards the common room.
Mary immediately went up to bed, exhausted from worrying about her best friend. Meanwhile, James and Lily had to have a quick word with Mcgonagall.
The Professor commented briskly, “Next time, please make sure you have your wand on you. You two are Head Boy and Girl after all.” Noting the nod of approval from the two teenagers, Mcgonagall went off to bed.
The pair walked into the common room, both exhausted. In spite of their tiredness, the two were radiant.
“Goodnight, Lily. I hope you sleep well.” Lily smiled, mumbling a quiet, “Goodnight James,” as she made her way up the dormitory steps.
As Lily settled into bed, she thought to herself, Maybe James would get that date after all.

Next part: The Benefits of Friendship and Love
⭑*•̩̩͙⊱••••✩••••̩̩͙⊰•*⭑
Y/N Y/L/N had believed that James Potter was her one true love; the person she was going to spend the rest of her life with. But there she sat in her Potions class watching her two best friends giggling and flirting with each other wondering where did she go wrong?
“Are you sure you want this?” he asked, not glancing at her.
“Of course I do, James,” Y/N replied, bewildered he would even think about asking her such a question.
“It’s just- I’ll be really busy you know. With quidditch, NEWTs coming up and being head boy, I won’t have a lot of time to give you,” James explained.
“I don’t care about that. As long as I’m with you, nothing else matters.”
James didn’t get a chance to say anything as Sirius just plopped down next to Y/N, throwing a hand over her shoulder. “What are you two talking about?”
“Nothing,” said James before launching into a conversation with Remus about prefect duties.
“Right, nothing,” sighed Y/N, picking at her food.
“Hey, can we talk?” Lily’s voice snapped Y/N out of her daydream. Her eyes connected with the grey eyes of Sirius Black before she turned around to face Lily with a smile, “Of course, Lils.”
“Can we go somewhere...” Lily looked around the courtyard, “a bit more private?” she finished.
Y/N nodded, stringing her bag around her shoulder as she followed Lily towards the Black Lake. It was a rare warm day at the beginning of October of their seventh year. The grounds were filled with students soaking up the remnants of the warm sun before a cold, harsh winter took over.
Lily led Y/N to a secluded area near the edge of the Black Lake. She stood there, rocking back and forth on her heels, wiping her hands on her uniform every few seconds. She took a deep breath, turning to face her best friend. Her forehead creased, her bottom lip pulled in between her teeth, nibbling down on it.
“Is everything alright?” asked Y/N softly, concerned at her best friend’s behaviour.
“Yes- well um no. I guess- I just need to tell you something. Promise me you’ll listen to the whole thing before speaking?”
Y/N nodded; her eyebrows furrowed in worry. What could Lily possibly have to say that’s gotten her so anxious?
“I want to start by saying I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done what I did, especially without talking to you first. James and I, we’ve been dating. Since a few weeks ago before the term started. We didn’t tell you because I knew it’d hurt you and none of us wanted that. We’ve broken up now. We talked a few days ago. I- we couldn’t carry on like that, not when we knew what we were doing would hurt our best friend. I knew you liked him, and I still said yes, and I shouldn’t have done that, especially after he hurt you so badly. I know you’re upset; we shouldn’t have hidden it from you in the first place, but we’re over now.”
Lily looked up suddenly, shocked to hear Y/N laugh. Not a hurt, mocking laugh but a genuine laugh as if she had heard something really funny.
“I know, Lily,” Y/N said giggling, “You all did an extremely bad job at hiding it.”
“Really? And you’re not upset?” Lily asked nervously.
“Of course not, silly. But I do think you’ve both gone mad. Absolute bonkers. How could you ever think I would stand in the way of my two best friends’ happiness?” Y/N asked with a small smile.
“I can’t. We can’t do that to you.”
“Rubbish! You’re not doing anything to me. Go, be with him. Be happy, both of you.”
A grin made its way onto the redhead’s face she jumped onto the Y/H/C, squeezing the life out of her.
“Thank you! Thank you so much. You’re the best,” Lily shouted as she ran back towards the castle. She turned her head to see her best friend with a small smile on her face, what she didn’t see were the tears gathering in her eyes and how her face fell once she was alone. What she failed to see was the sight of her best friend falling onto her knees, breaking down once again.

Sirius, Remus and Peter found Y/N sitting against a tree, face resting on top of her knees drawn to her chest. They all grimaced at the sight of her blotchy face and red-rimmed eyes. She looked so broken.
“You knew, didn’t you?” she whispered, continuing to stare at the still lake before her.
Sirius, Remus and Peter stayed silent not knowing what to say. They did know from the beginning. James came back home shouting about it as soon as it happened. They were asked not to tell her and so they didn’t, a big mistake on their part they realized a little too late.
“Leave me alone” requested Y/N, her voice hoarse from crying.
“Y/N/N, we are-” started Remus.
“Please, just go,” she pleaded weakly. She had no energy left to do anything anymore. Her heart hurt too much. She’d wasted all her energy trying to be enough for a boy who wanted nothing to do with her; all for nothing.
“Alright. But we are sorry Y/N,” said Remus softly.
“We’re here if you need anything,” Peter went on.
Y/N didn’t reply. She made no acknowledgement that the words reached her ears. She continued to stare at the still water, a defeated look on her face. Remus and Peter turned to walk back to the castle. Sirius sighed and took a step towards Y/N, ignoring the pointed look Remus sent him. He leaned down to press a soft kiss against her head.
“We really are sorry, love,” he mumbled before following his best friends back to the castle.

A few months passed by. The weather got colder; the wind got harsher. The leaves changed colours and fell. The green grass began to get covered with white snow. All through this, Lily and James got stronger. Every girl was envious of their relationship. The golden couple, they were known as throughout the school.
Meanwhile, Y/N continued to suffer on the sidelines, never showing anyone how badly she was hurting. She wore a bright smile, fake to anyone who really looked. Sirius, Remus and Peter noticed it, she had begun to pull away from all of them, spending all her time in the library when she could, sitting with other people during meals. Anytime they approached her she would cut the conversation short saying she had somewhere to be. The times where she did stick around them, she wasn't the talkative Y/N they knew and loved but a shell of her former self.
Y/N felt disgusted with herself for the hate and anger she had begun to feel towards her best friend. It was justified in her eyes, but she knew no one else would see it that way; she would be considered too dramatic, petty and honestly, a bitch. Due to this fear, Y/N kept quiet about how she felt about the situation. She couldn’t rant to Remus, Sirius, Peter, Marlene, Alice or Dorcas. The only person she could rant to, who would understand her completely or otherwise not judge her, was the sole cause of all her problems in the first place.
James Potter not only ripped her heart right out of her chest and stomped all over it but also left her alone with no one she could talk to, making her spiral into a whirl of self-hate and loneliness with nothing to keep her from drowning.
“What happened to not having enough time to be in a relationship?”, “Be more like Lily then maybe we’d like to hang out with you more”, “Look at Lily, she’s beautiful and she takes care of herself” were the only thoughts that swirled through Y/N’s head on repeat. Her self-worth was reduced to the size of a speck of dust, ready to be blown away into the open by the lightest of breaths. Sirius had noticed her change in mannerisms, clothes, tone of voice; almost everything and it made his heartache. He watched from afar as she continued to distance herself; not that anyone could blame her. But it appeared that her absence went unnoticed by everyone, except by him, Remus and Peter. Not even her best friend noted the lack of her presence; too involved in her new boyfriend and busy making new friends.
Y/N soon found comfort in her friends from Ravenclaw, particularly Dave. He understood how she felt; not completely but a bit was better than nothing. He was someone she could rant about James and Lily to without the fear of judgement. Dave and Lily had broken up a few months before she’d started dating James; turns out she had liked James throughout their relationship, using it as a backup since James was showing interest in her best friend at that time. But in the end, not even the friendship of Dave was enough to fill up the empty void inside her, the gaping hole that she believed only one person could close.
Y/N was broken, like a mirror shattered into a thousand pieces and the glue that could put her back together was only in one person’s possession.

Y/N wanted to cry; she wanted to break things, thrash a whole room as she collapsed under the weight of her sobs. She wanted to scream into the void until her throat ached, her voice hoarse and raw. She wanted to shout at Lily for deceiving her; for pretending to care all these years. She wanted to yell at the universe, asking what she had done to deserve this. She wanted to punch James, break his nose for destroying her. Y/N Y/L/N had lost herself and she was nowhere to be found.
Y/N knew everyone would pick Lily if it came to it. Everyone always picked Lily; she was the much more favourable and lovable choice. It hadn't bothered Y/N much at first, she would gladly pick Lily first over herself too, but it started to get too much when people she was close to first - she’d introduced Lily to (such as the Marauders) - chose her. The last straw was drawn when James, the only person in the world Y/N had thought would never abandon her; tossed her aside like a second choice, opted for her. The person she revealed her deepest, darkest secrets to; whom she told things she’d never imagined telling another living, breathing soul had thrown her without a second thought, without any regret, onto the side of the road like rubbish without glancing back once to see the damage he’d caused. He’d promised he wouldn’t turn out like the rest. He’d promised to her.
Maybe it was all her fault. She gave her everything to him; her heart and soul, all her time, her first kiss, amongst other things whether she wanted to or not. There were days where she wondered whose fault it really was. Was it her? Was she not pretty enough? Lily Evans was beautiful; no one could deny it, you looked like a tiny twinkling star next to the glowing moon. Surprisingly the only person that comprehended what a first kiss and relationship meant to Y/N was Sirius Black, the notorious player of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was the only one who’d not told her to get over it and instead held her hand through the period of time when she had needed someone to rely on.

“Y/N! Wait! Y/N/N!” Y/N reluctantly slowed down, waiting for the person calling her name to catch up to her. She found herself in the company of Sirius, Remus, and Peter once a hand quickly grabbed her and pulled her to the side of the corridor.
“What do you want?” she asked impatiently. She just wanted to go back to her common room and sleep - an evening of peace - but the universe was against her, as usual.
Peter looked around nervously at the tone of her voice whilst Remus looked as if he’d been expecting this reaction.
Sirius raised an eyebrow in question, “Have somewhere to be, do you?”
“Yes actually.”
Sirius sighed before his mouth pulled into a wide cheerful smile choosing to be the bigger person, “Well we’re all sneaking out to Hogsmeade later if you wanted to join us.”
“No thank you. I’m busy,” Y/N said pushing her way from between them and walking away.
“How long are you going to keep this up!?” he yelled after her, irritated.
Y/N froze, anger bubbling through her blood and she turned on her heel slowly to face him.
“What?” she asked slowly, her teeth gritted, and her free hand clenched in a fist.
“Padfoot, don’t,” Remus muttered in warning, placing a hand on Sirius’ arm.
“No Moony,” Sirius said shrugging his hand off, “Someone needs to tell her that enough is enough.”
“Enough? Enough!?” Y/N laughed taking a step closer to Sirius with every sentence. “Enough was when my best friend decided to date my ex despite him breaking my heart not once, not twice but three times! Enough was when my best friend decided to date the boy who left me shattered behind my back! Enough was when my best friends knew about all this and chose to keep it from me!
“Enough was when all my friends left me stranded alone.”
The pain she’d locked up inside washed over her, her knees buckling beneath her. Sirius moved swiftly, gathering her in his arms before she hit rock bottom. Y/N clutched his shirt in her fists, soaking it as she sobbed against his chest.
“I never thought something could hurt this bad,” her voice broke, tugging Sirius’ heartstrings. Y/N’s heart ached; her chest physically hurting as it constricted her heart. The pain was too much to handle; the wound tearing open and blood smearing the ears of whom the sounds of her anguish fell upon.
Sirius had always known a time like this would come. A time when he’d sit there holding the love of his life in his arms as she sobbed into his chest over his best friend, for his brother. And there was nothing he could possibly do about it.

Not Impossible

“Professor?”
You looked at your head of house, she sat in her office, looking up at you confused to why you would venture out for her at the hour, very early in the morning before breakfast as even started. You looked sheepish, your tie done loosely and your shirt untucked for its pants.
“What can I help you with?”
“I have a question, one that I usually asked Professor Dumbledore, but seeing he’s not here I would go to the next best professor,” McGonagall smiles at your compliment, “If you were to go into the future with a time turner, unlikely but not impossible when you return to your time - will you have the knowledge of the future sticking in your memory? I know that you cannot be seen by your future or past self, but other people?”
“Why do you ask?”
“Curiosity, ma’am,” You replied with a shrug, standing at her doorway, “After all, I did get hat stall with Ravenclaw, curiosity is just natural with me.”
“Well,” McGonagall hums, thinking before looking at you with sharp eyes, “I would assume so - explain further by what you mean.”
“Say I travel to the future, I have married with kids, and my kids see me - I know their names and who I marry, but not asking how it came about, technically I am not ruining the future because I’m not stopping what will come to be, right? Therefore, I should remember my time in the future and is the reason I named my kids because I met them.”
“Interesting,” McGonagall nods, “I would assume, by your logic, you would be correct - though I do wonder how you came to this conclusion.”
“I asked dad once why he called me (Y/n),” You say, there was a thoughtful look on your face, “He said I’ll understand in due time - it’s always has stuck with me so I was just thinking-”
“If your father travelled in the future and met you...”
“It’s unlikely, but not impossible.”
McGonagall had a twinkle in her eye, as if she knew something, a few years ago a group of boys come barreling into her office late in the night. You looked at her uneasy before she comes to approach you, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder.
“You are correct, try not to think too much for it. You have exams to concern yourself with and a quidditch match tomorrow to think about.”
“First game against the slimy-”
“Umh!”
“Sorry,” You looked at her sheepishly, “With the Slytherin team.”
“Well, off you go, I don’t want us to miss breakfast and look smart - your father looked better in that uniform than you do!”
You smiled cheekily before dashing away from the office, McGonagall locking her office for a time being, there was a glint in her eyes as she noticed the date. Reminding herself to tell your teachers of the day that you’ll be missing on their lessons for special reasons. You walked down to the great hall, you had quidditch practise that night. Your robe draped over your shoulder bag as you tried to look presentable.
That was until you heard voices murmuring, as you went closer to an empty classroom you could hear harsh whispers. Out of curiosity, you opened the door to see four boys looking like they were just caught. Your eyes widen as they had Gryffindor ties - you know all the boys in your house, after all, prefect went to you rather to Ron - who was very relieved
“Who are you and why are you posing as Gryffindor boys?” You asked as they looked at you with wide eyes.
“We’re um-” The long hair boy spluttered, looking at glasses for support.
As you gave them a harder look, you realised something, you had recognised them, old pictures in your dad’s photo album.
“I know you!” You exclaimed.
“Oi Lupin!” Your head snapped outside to see Seamus waving you down, “You’re going to miss breakfast!”
“Fuck off Finnegan, no I won’t,” You say as the Irish boy chortles before dragging his friends away from you.
You sighed as you entered the room and closing the door behind you, looking at the boys in front of you.
“You’re James Potter,” he waves, as you turn to the long-haired teen, “And you, Sirius Black!”
“Yeah, I am.”
“You’re Remus,” You smile fondly, how can you possibly miss your dad’s awkward smile? Before turning to look bitter, “And Peter Pettigrew.”
“How do you know us?” James asked.
“What year is this?” Peter asked meekly.
“Hang on,” Remus exclaimed loudly, “We’re ignoring that they said you’re a Lupin, but I don’t-”
“The year is 1996, late April, and I know you because how can I not? You’re famous whether you like it or not,” You replied, shrugging your shoulders, “By any chance have you fiddled with a time turner?”
There was silence as you crossed your arm, sharply looking at them before James broke under your stare - it was all too familiar.
“No?”
“James,” You say lowly before he looks at Remus who reveals that he had the time turner around his neck, “You’re all idiots, the lot of you!”
“Well, we’re aware of that,” Sirius says boldly, as you glared at him.
“Well, I don’t know how long you’ll be staying here. But, you better fix it. Because what you’ve created is a paradox. This shouldn’t have happened.”
“Ah, unlikely but not impossible,” Remus pointed out.
You opened your mouth before closing them, this is what your dad means when you’ll soon find out about your name. You finally picked up on McGonagall look towards you, you sighed, running your hand down your face.
“Well, breakfast will be ending in half an hour, you stay put and I mean it - I’ll help you sort this out and you go back to whatever year you are in. How old are you even?”
“Sixteen, the lot of us, Wormtail here just turned sixteen two weeks ago.”
“Oh cool,” You answered, nodding, “Guessing in nicknames that you’ve recently able to shift into your animagus forms?”
“Yeah, how do you know that?” Peter asked as you had to hold back a glare for the lad, he’s just an innocent sixteen year old who has the whole world coming for him.
“I know you guys better than the world does,” You shrugged your shoulders.
“You haven’t answered Lupin’s question,” Sirius says.
You smirked, “You’ll find out in due time. Now, will you guys promise to stay put if I get food for you?”
They all looked to each other and nodded, you sighed in relief as you placed your bag down, before leaving the room. The group of boys looking loss before obeying and getting themselves comfortable, you had returned with goodies.
“I’m starving!” Sirius says, ready to pounce before Remus grabbed the back of his collar, “Aw, Moony!”
“Sorry about them,” Remus says as he helps you out to distribute food, “Thank you.”
You waved them off as the five of you get to work in how to get them back to their year, not much with you telling about the future for them, but dropping sublet hints for them.
“I miss Evans,” James sighs wistfully, the three other boys ignoring him - used to his pining as you stare at him, “What?”
“Oh nothing,” You hummed before looking back at your books - which you had to make a trip to the library to bring the boys some books to look for information, “Have you ever tried referring her with her first name?”
“Trust us, Evans is scary when you call her by Lily,” Sirius responded, “I tell you, bloody scary gingers - the lot of them.”
“Tell me about it,” You say thinking about Ginny Weasley, what a fiery girl, “Well, don’t give up James, might work out.”
“You think?”
“I think.”
“James, you’re asking someone from the future - it would make sense, he would know,” Remus replied dryly.
“Do I have a kid?!” James asked excitedly.
“I’m not telling?” You give him a look, “I’m not an idiot in telling you that, Merlin’s beard, knowing you idiots you would ruin the bloody future. My future - if anything, the only one I trust is Remus!”
“Yeah, make sense,” Peter answered, even you chuckled in his response.
“Well, I’m not surprised - you do share a last name.”
You give them a glare before they all got to work. You sighed back, by midday you were hoping to find a resolution.
“God, I’m going to be tired for practice,” You yawned as you shut the sixth book of the day, standing up to stretch, “Angelina is going to be pissed.”
“You play quidditch?”
“Yeah? Chaser,” You say, before waving it off, “Not important really.”
“I think it is, Remus doesn’t like playing quidditch but knowing that you a Lupin does - it’s fascinating!” James teases as you rolled your eyes.
Your quidditch practise started at seven, luckily it was about five that you were able to finish up with the group of idiots. You had neatly stacked some books to bring back to the library. You had a nice day, you learnt more stuff about them, stuff that you wouldn’t have known, you got them to talk about their time at school.
“We’re making a map, of the whole school, but we’re not really sure what to name it. We don’t have a group name for us, by now we were hoping someone in school would name our group for us,” Sirius mention before James nudges him, telling him that he shouldn’t have told you.
You a bit preoccupied, answered without a thought, “Oh, marauders fits you idiots quite well.”
“Marauders?” Peter asked inquisitively.
“One who roams from one place to another, it fits well with a map if you ask me,” You hummed before looking at them, all of them huddled with a chain around their necks. Remus holding the time turner, he looks at you.
“Wait, we never got your name or who you are,” He says, you smile at him.
“Oh, I’m (Y/n) Lupin, I’m your son,” With that, you started the turns of their time tuner, as Remus looks at you wide-eye, “Told you, you’d understand in due time.”
With that, you step back watching the boys fade away. You sighed and continue with your dad as you left the classroom to make your way to the library then to the great hall, you just can’t help be send a strongly worded letter to your father - hoping he reads it to Sirius.
“Bunch of wankers,” You muttered to yourself.
“Are you okay, Mr Lupin?” McGonagall asked as you looked at her, “Muttering yourself again? How was your day?”
“It was eventful, more than I thought it would be.”
“Well, I shouldn’t keep you too long, hope you had a lovely day.”
You nodded, “Yeah, what an unlikely day I’ve had.”
