Big bad sexy Melkor steps out of the shadows, saunters over to a nervous little Mairon and reaches out to touch his cheek, whispering, "I've watched you for a long time now, little one, and couldn't resist your beauty anymore... why don't you meet me outside Almaren at midnight so I can show you everything I can give to you if you agree to be mine...", while leaning in to let his cold breath tickle the shy Maia's ear. Unable to get a word out and blushing so brightly that he outshines the furnace behind him, Mairon barely manages a nod and receives a pleased smirk in return

A very nervous Melkor teleports right into the doorway, only to hit his head because he miscalculated, nearly falls over his own feet, smiles awkwardly and leans against the nearest workbench in a desperate attempt to look cool. "So, uh..." he starts, nervously glancing at some smudged writing on his wrist, "I, uh, think you're really pretty and was wondering if you'd... um... like to talk about power and... stuff... sometime..." and then Mairon walks over with the sexiest, sassiest hip swing the poor dork lord has ever seen, causing him to sweat profusely, stands in front of him, grabs himself a handful of Vala ass and says, "Make it a date and I'm in, babygirl"

Angbang Podcast Appearance

Tolkien Tumblr: I’m going to be appearing on a podcast to talk about Sauron in the context of Angbang. If you’ve encountered this ship (and I'm guessing you have :-) ), I’d love to hear your thoughts on it! I've done enough research on Sauron and fandom at this point to know a bit of the ship history, but fandom content being as ephemeral as it is I am sure there is plenty I don't yet know, along with changing attitudes towards the ship. Angbang was one of the first ships I encountered when I came back to Tolkien fandom in 2015 but it sounds like a lot happened before then.

When did you first encounter any iteration of a Morgoth/Sauron ship (be it ‘Angbang,’ ‘Melron,’ etc.)?

Does this ship change how you think about Sauron’s characterization or motives?

What do you like/dislike when it comes to this ship? Even if you don’t like this ship I want to hear why (not liking a ship is totally valid!), but be aware that trolling, meanness, queerphobia in any form, etc., will get you a swift block. Be kind to your fellow fan.

The Silmarillion fandom is collapsing.

Has anyone else noticed a lot of people leaving the silmarillion just general Tolkien fandom? Especially on tumblr. One of my favourite Silm blogs deleted their whole account and just disappeared. I’m seeing a lot of amazing creators put out their farewell statements. I absolutely don’t blame anyone who is choosing to leave and especially if it’s just because they’re not happy anymore or are moving on to other things. But I’m noticing that a lot of people are being very negative and some creators have explicitly stated that this has impacted them leaving and losing love and interest for something that once made them so happy because of all the negativity aimed at them. It’s so sad. Also wtf this is a hobby and some people are so demanding with creators like they’re not creating things unpaid and in their free time. Hating on people for what they love and find comfort in or calling them weird for liking and having different takes on certain FICTIONAL characters is disgusting and you’re absolutely the problem if you do that.

To any creators seeing this I just want you to know how much your work is and contribution is appreciated. Especially since it’s not that big of a fandom on here.

Characters: Melkor/Mairon Synopsis: Mairon works on a statue of his beloved. Warnings: Loss of spouse, grief

Only perfection would be good enough for his beloved. Every angle, every plane, every little quirk and detail that was burned into his memory, he would shape it all with utmost love and reverence; and he wouldn't rest until everything was as it should be. 

Mairon put down his hammer and chisel and lovingly caressed the statue's cheek. The smooth, cool texture of the stone reminded him of the Vala's skin, and for a few precious seconds he closed his eyes and allowed himself to indulge in the fantasy, to pretend that Melkor was here with him. 

Yet the moment was fleeting, just another dream of a lonely, widowed Maia, vanishing as quickly as it had come over him. Mairon opened his eyes and met the statue's empty gaze, once again hit with the painful realisation that he was alone and that his husband wasn't coming back, no matter how hard he tried to cling to everything that reminded him of him. 

Memories were all he had left, and in the quiet solitude of his forge, he rested his head on lifeless stone and wept.

I believe the core differences between the two dark lords of Arda can be summed up with two facts:

One Dark Lord almost got himself eaten by the resident giant demon spider.

The other Dark Lord referred to the resident giant demon spider as "his cat" and occasionally sent her his servants to eat to keep her happy and to amuse himself.
