Perthro Fam:

Oh my god these idiots…. I love them so much. Blitz and Hearth (basically married) go to this wish-fulfilling god who takes them into employment and orders them to watch this homeless kid Magnus who just lost his mom bc he’s the chosen one or whatever. They have to make sure he doesn’t die. Anyway they spend two years pretending to be homeless and watching over Magnus and eventually they become really close, until Magnus dies (oops) and it’s revealed to him in the afterlife that they’re been lying to him this whole time and Blitz is a dwarf and Hearth is an elf. Instead of going for the usual “you lied to me! I can’t trust you anymore!1!” Magnus just… accepts it, and they continue to aid him on shenanigans in the afterlife alongside the awesome Samirah. The four of them go on a (basically illegal) quest to like stop the world from ending and they get so close like they learn that Blitz’s dad died when he was young and he was like the only one who truly understood him until he met Hearth, Hearth reveals to them that he comes from an abusive home (but like so bad I nominated this guy for the worst dad tournament. He treated his son like shit for being death and blaimed his brother’s death on him made him pay the blood debt etc etc) and that Blitzen saved his life and then MAGNUS tells them that losing HIS mom was really traumatic for him, especially since he fled the scene and was considered a suspect for her death, and we learn that Samirah has been bullied her whole life for being Muslim and because her mom (also dead) wasn’t married. Anyway Hearth is learning magic or whatever and his rune of choice is the perthro (hence the name) which signifies an empty cup, or hollowing oneself out to be filled with happiness and near the end Magnus calls them all his family of empty cups… it’s very emotional and I go batshit every time I read it. I am so sorry for making you read this

✿ - Sex headcanon

Here's the thing about parenthood: alone-time is often a luxury. Add to that the tiring responsibilities of Alec's consul-hood, and you don't have much room for sex. Every now and then, though, as often as it can be managed, Magnus recruits Izzy's help watching the kids for an afternoon/evening/night (the boys love their sleepovers with Aunt Izzy), and encourages Alec to take a break, to breathe, and to enjoy the night (which he does, unlike another Alexander I know lol yes this is a hamilton reference). They love their children more than anything, but those nights when they can have free reign of the apartment again, when they can have eachother on the couch, not worry about putting on clothes to make dinner, and then claim the kitchen as well, are some of the best nights.

♥ - family headcanon

Neither Magnus nor Alec had the most exemplary fathers, not by a long shot, and they've made a point to remind Max and Rafe--in words and actions--how loved they are, how they can go to their parents with anything, how they will always be safe in their parents arms. The little routines go a long way, they found. And even if Magnus or Alec has to work late and doesn't make it to dinner, they will always both be home at the end of the night to tuck the boys in, to read a bedtime story, or as they get older, to play a boardgame or sip hot chocolate and talk about their days.

Magnus -

It's hard to remember that Magnus had a happy childhood before the tragedy, and I think it might be hard for him too. I think it's why he always lives in cities now, to avoid the negative feelings anything resembling a farm might bring.. but there were good days. On one of his early birthdays, before his warlock mark fully developed, his step-dad took him fishing for the first time after the morning chores were done. Magnus wasn't the best, and could hardly get the hook to fly straight, let alone land where the fish would bite, but there in the shade with his step-dad encouraging him, watching the bugs skipping on the water, giggling whenever a splash made a fish jet away.. well it wasn't really about the fishing. (I have more about him coming home to his mom making a yummy dinner for the three of them but this is already too long lol)

Alec -

Being the only two kids in such a massive institute without much outside contact might seem lonely, but it was perfect for the imaginary games Izzy insisted they play, and even more perfect for hide and seek. There were endless hiding spots, and over the years, they only got harder and more elaborate. Once, when Izzy found Alec without him noticing, she snuck up from the other direction and scared the daylights out of him. It then became Alec's mission to get her back, and then Izzy's to get him back, and then it just became part of the game. Alec was always better, both at the sneaking up, and at the seeing Izzy creeping, though, and it frustrated Isabelle to no end.

one thing that’s fascinating when relistening to mag 57 (daedalus collaboration hell yeah) is that the chilcott talks about how suddenly he doesn’t see any celestial bodies anymore while in space except for a couple very far away stars, which makes sense because no earth=lonely, no sun=dark, nothing at all but space=vast, but like, did the space station with all three of them, chilcott and kilbride and dominguez, go to the same, like, realm (cuz the lonely and the vast can both involve sending people Into Them, or realms within them or whatever they do, but the dark doesn’t), or if it was separate, how did the space station get vaulted to three different places at the same time?
