Is Luca Free on Disney Plus? Watch Pixar’s ‘Luca’ on Disney+ Right Now for Free!
Tumblr media
There are many things to watch on Disney+, and more new series and films are coming shortly. Cruella was recently made available on Disney+ via Premier Access. Today, though, you may view the most recent Disney and Pixar movie for free. Luca, the newest animated film from Disney and Pixar, is now available on Disney+. The “perfect summer movie” has arrived. Pack your bags for #PixarLuca, now streaming on @DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/uqYLjJYqDY — Pixar (@Pixar) June 18, 2021 Similarly to Disney and Pixar's Soul, Luca is completely free to view for all Disney+ users (no Premier Access or additional cost necessary). Not really certain what Luca is about? The plot of the film follows Luca, a juvenile sea monster, as he spends an incredible summer on the Italian Riviera. View the film's trailer below. This summer, visit Portorosso. 🏖️ Watch the new trailer for #PixarLuca, streaming June 18 only on @DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/h27MTBS8aS — Pixar (@Pixar) April 28, 2021 It appears that Luca spends a considerable amount of time above the water engaging in various shenanigans with his companions. How to Watch Pixar’s ‘Luca’ on Disney+ In 2006, The Walt Disney Company purchased Pixar for a staggering $7.4 billion (more than both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm). Since then, the animation company has produced success after hit for the Mouse House with little difficulty. To the displeasure of Pixar employees, with the introduction of Disney+ and the pandemic-induced shutdown of theatres, an increasing amount of Pixar content has been redirected directly to streaming. Luca, starring Jacob Tremblay and Jack Dylan Grazer and directed by Enrico Casarosa, is the most recent film in this series. The film is set in a picturesque coastal town on the Italian Riviera and is about a young boy's coming-of-age during a memorable summer filled with gelato, spaghetti, and endless scooter rides. Luca enjoys these experiences with his new best buddy, but all the enjoyment is endangered by a closely guarded secret: just beneath the water's surface lurk sea creatures from another world. Read More: Black Widow: When is Black Widow Free on Disney Plus? Luca‘s Disney+ Premiere Date Luca will bypass all theatres and premiere exclusively on Disney+ on June 18. Recently, Disney declared that its high-profile original Disney+ TV shows will debut on Wednesdays instead of Fridays, following Loki's example. Disney+ original films and Disney+ Premier Access titles will continue to be released on Fridays. So, now you've got your weekend planned. Is Luca a Disney+ Premier Access Title? In contrast to Mulan, Raya and the Last Dragon, Cruella, and Black Widow, Luca is not available via Disney+ Premier Access. These films needed a Disney+ subscription as well as an extra $30 PVOD fee to see. But Luca, like Soul before it, will be made available to Disney+ customers at no additional cost. How to Watch Luca on Disney+ In contrast to Mulan, Raya and the Last Dragon, Cruella, and Black Widow, Luca is not available via Disney+ Premier Access. These films needed a Disney+ subscription as well as an extra $30 PVOD fee to see. But Luca, like Soul before it, will be made available to Disney+ customers at no additional cost. Disney Plus Subscribers Won't Need Premiere Access to Watch 'Luca' Luca, the newest animated film from Disney and Pixar, will premiere on June 18. Young mer-boy Luca and his best buddy Alberto are intrigued about life above water in the new title. Together, they transform into people in order to visit the coastal village of Portorosso, embarking on an adventurous summer journey. The film has already generated much discussion. Initially, there was conjecture that the primary protagonist, Luca, is homosexual (though the director denies that). Enrico Casarosa, the film's director, remarked, "I was particularly eager to discuss friendship before girlfriends and boyfriends complicate matters." The film launches on Friday, June 18 on Disney Plus after a lengthy wait. But will fans be need to pay to access it, as they have for some of Disney's earlier film premieres, or is Luca available for free? Do you have to pay to watch 'Luca' on Disney Plus? Since the COVID-19 epidemic temporarily closed the majority of movie theatres across the nation, Disney used a different method when distributing the majority of their new films. In lieu of a theatrical release, Disney Plus subscribers had the opportunity to stream new films for $30 each, granting them unlimited access to see the film before it became accessible to all subscribers. The streaming company implemented this for highly anticipated films such as the live-action Mulan and Raya and the Last Dragon, which fared well upon their debut. Fortunately, it appears that Disney is eliminating the premiere access option for Luca, meaning that anybody with a Disney Plus subscription will be able to view the film on June 18 without paying extra. It is presently unknown why Disney chose this path for Luca. Those who insist on viewing the animated film in a cinema can do so at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. One week following the premiere, this chance will only be offered to properly vaccinated residents of the region. After then, the film will continue to be accessible on Disney Plus. A subscription to Disney Plus costs $7.99 per month, with an annual subscription available for $79.99. What time will 'Luca' be released on Disney Plus? Since the title is being published via a streaming service, any viewer with the devotion (or willpower) to stay up late may watch it as soon as it becomes available. Frequent movie premieres on streaming platforms have increased the frequency of staying up late to see new releases as they occur. It is expected that Luca will debut on Disney Plus on June 18 at midnight PST, meaning that viewers on the East Coast would have to stay up until 3 a.m. to watch it when it premieres. Once it debuts, everyone with a Disney Plus subscription will be able to stream the film, and there is no additional barrier to streaming Luca due to the absence of a premium for premiere access. While this is the only Pixar film to be released this year, the animation studio has several films scheduled for release in 2022. Last Lines Luca, the newest animated film from Disney and Pixar, is now available on Disney+. The film is set in a picturesque coastal town on the Italian Riviera. The year is 2011. You are Olivia Williams, a 20-year-old political science prodigy. Your sharp intelligence and diplomatic acumen rapidly propelled you through your education and caught the eye of the Director of SHIELD, Nick Fury, when you interned with them last summer. Now returning as a part-time employee while you complete your master's degree in political science and international relations, you find yourself in the inner circle of a man who trusts no one. This, along with your uncanny ability to defuse dangerous situations and high marks in a battery of field agent tests, means that you often find yourself as SHIELD’s first line of communication with the most unusual things that this world—and the rest—has to offer.
This is a reader-insert that will work its way through most of the MCU and a blend of assorted related media (comics, TV shows, etc). It's going to be self-indulgent and a bit silly at times, but I also don't plan to shy away from canon-typical violence. I also will probably start to diverge from the official timeline once we (eventually) get past Civil War, but that's a long way off. We open on a sunny day in 2011, when a certain defrosted super-soldier just burst onto the street...

Marvel Studios Disney+ Series ‘What If…?’ to Debut in August
Entertainment Weekly just released their summer 2021 television preview. The article is filled with tons of details of some of the most anticipated shows. Marvel Studios’ upcoming animated series What If…? made an appearance on that list of shows and they have given some exciting details.
According to the site, the series will make its debut on Disney+ in August. This would be a month after the long-awaited Black Widow in July and the introduction of the newest Marvel hero in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in September.
The ten-episode first season is expected to debut next summer. The series will follow alternate reality stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe without affecting any of the existing theatrical and live-action Disney+ canon. The first episode will ask the question, “What if Peggy Carter got the powers from the Super Soldier Serum and Steve Rogers remained his scrawny self, but was given an Iron Man-type suit of armor designed by Tony Stark’s father Howard Stark?”
Other storylines that are expected to be explored is the popular Marvel Zombies, which sees some of the Avengers doing battled with zombified characters including Captain America. Based on images that have been previously shared, we also see what looks to be T’Challa (Black Panther) as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord.
Returning from the big screen to voice their iconic characters are Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Taika Waititi as Korg, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Michael Rooker as Yondu, and Jeffery Wright voicing the Watcher. What If…? also features Chadwick Boseman, who was able to reprise T’Challa one last time via voice work before his sudden passing last summer.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (After Far From Home)
Hawkeye (after Endgame)
Loki (alternate timeline - after Endgame)
In this house, we include Agent Carter Season 1 and Agents of Shield Seasons 1-4 in the MCU.
*Iron Man 2, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk are all the same week
*Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Black Panther happen close together as well
Please don’t judge or fight me on the order. If you don’t agree, don’t watch it in this order. But I have done my research and taken notes during the movies about the dates. This is the timeline order that I have enjoyed and believe is the most closely correct.

round up // JULY 21
Tumblr media
‘Tis the season to beat the heat at the always-cold theatres and next to fans set at turbo speed. While my movie watching slowed a bit with the launch of the Summer Olympics on July 23rd, I’ve still got plenty of popcorn-ready and artsy recommendations for you. A few themes in the new-to-me pop culture I’m recommending this month:
Casts oozing with embarrassing levels of talent (sometimes overqualified for the movies they’re in)
Pop culture that is responding or reinterpreting past pop culture
Stories that get weEeEeird
Keep on-a-scrollin’ to see which is which!
July Crowd-Pleasers
Tumblr media
1. Double Feature – ‘90s Rom-Coms feat. Lots of Lies: Mystery Date (1991) + The Pallbearer (1996)
In Mystery Date (Crowd: 7.5/10 // Critic: 6/10), Ethan Hawke and Teri Polo get set up on a blind date that gets so bizarre and crime-y I’m not sure how this didn’t come out in the ‘80s. In The Pallbearer (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7/10), David Schwimmer and Gwyneth Paltrow try to combine The Graduate with Four Weddings and a Funeral in a story about lost twentysomethings. If you don’t like rom-coms in which circumstances depend on lots of lies and misunderstandings, these won’t be your jam, but if you’re like me and don’t mind these somewhat-cliché devices, you’ll be hooked by likeable casts and plenty of rom and com.
Tumblr media
2. The Tomorrow War (2021)
I thought of no fewer movies than this list while watching: Alien, Aliens, Angel Has Fallen, Cloverfield, Interstellar, Kong: Skull Island, Prometheus, A Quiet Place: Part II, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith, The Silence of the Lambs, The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and World War Z. And you know what? I like all those movies! (Okay, maybe I just have a healthy respect/fear of The Silence of the Lambs.) The Tomorrow War may not be original, but it borrows some of the best tropes and beats from the sci-fi and action genres, so much so I wish I could’ve seen Chris Pratt and Co. fight those gross monsters on a big screen. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 6/10
Tumblr media
3. Dream a Little Dream (1989)
My July pick for the Dumb Rom-Com I Nevertheless Enjoyed! I CANNOT explain the mechanics of this body switch comedy to you—nor can the back of the DVD case above—but, boy, what an ‘80s MOOD. I did not know I needed to see a choreographed dance routine starring Jason Robards and Corey Feldman, but I DID. All I know is some movies are made for me and that I’m now a card-carrying member of the Two Coreys fan club. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 6.5/10

4. Black Widow (2021)
The braids! The Pugh! Black Widow worked for me both as an exciting action adventure and as a respite from the Marvel adventures dependent on a long memory of the franchise. (Well, mostly—keep reading for a second MCU rec much more dependent on the gobs of previous releases.) Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 7.5/10
Tumblr media
5. Liar Liar (1997)
Guys, Jim Carrey is hilarious. That’s it—that’s the review. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 7/10

6. Sob Rock by John Mayer (2021)
It’s very possible I’ve already listened to this record more than all other John Mayer records. It doesn’t surpass the capital-G Greatness of Continuum, but it’s a little bit of old school Mayer, a little bit ‘80s soft rock/pop, and I’ve had it on repeat most of the two weeks since it’s been out. Featuring the boppiest bop that ever bopped, at least one lyrical gem in every track, and an ad campaign focused on Walkmans, this record skirts the line between Crowd faves and Critic-worthy musicianship.

7. Double Feature – ‘00s Ben Affleck Political Thrillers: The Sum of All Fears (2002) + State of Play (2009)
In The Sum of All Fears (Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 7.5/10), Ben Affleck is Jack Ryan caught up in yet another international incident. In State of Play (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7/10), he’s a hotshot Congressman caught up in a scandal. Both are full of plot twists and unexpected turns, and in both, Affleck is accompanied by actors you’re always happy to see, like Jason Bateman, James Cromwell, Russell Crowe, Jeff Daniels, Viola Davis, Morgan Freeman, Philip Baker Hall, David Harbour, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, Liev Schreiber, and Robin Wright—yes, I swear all of those people are in just those two movies.
Tumblr media
8. Loki (2021-)
Unlike Black Widow, you can’t go into Loki with no MCU experience. The show finds clever ways to nudge us with reminders (and did better at it than Falcon and the Winter Soldier), but be forewarned that at some point, you’re just going to have to let go and accept wherever this timeline-hopper is taking you. An ever-charismatic cast keeps us grounded (Owen Wilson, Jonathan Majors, and an alligator almost steal the show from Tom Hiddleston in some eps), but while Falcon lasted an episode or two too long, Loki could’ve used a few more to flesh out its complicated plot and develop its characters. Thankfully, the jokes matter almost as much as the sci-fi, so you can still have fun even if you have no idea what’s going on.
Tumblr media
9. Double Feature – Bruce Willis: Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995) + The Whole Nine Yards (2000)
Before Bruce Willis began starring in many random direct-to-DVD movies I only ever hear about in my Redbox emails, he was a Movie Star smirking his way up the box office charts. In the third Die Hard (Crowd: 10/10 // Critic: 7.5/10), he teams up with Samuel L. Jackson to decipher the riddles of a terrorist madman (Jeremy Irons), and it’s a thrill ride. In The Whole Nine Yards (Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 8/10), he’s hitman that screws up dentist Matthew Perry’s boring life in Canada, and—aside from one frustrating scene of let’s-objectify-women-style nudity—it’s hilarious.
Tumblr media
10. This Is the End (2013)
On paper, this is not a movie for me. An irreverent stoner comedy about a bunch of bros partying it up before the end of the world? None of things are for Taylors. But with a little help of a TV edit to pare down the raunchy and crude bits, I laughed my way through and spent the next several days thinking through its exploration of what makes a good person. While little of the plot is accurate to Christian Gospel and theology, some of its big ideas are consistent enough with the themes of the book of Revelation I found myself thinking about it again in church this morning. (Would love to know if Seth Rogen ever expected that.) Plus, I love a good self-aware celebrity spoof—can’t tell you how many times I’ve just laughed remembering the line, “It’s me, Jonah Hill, from Moneyball”—and an homage to horror classics. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7/10
July Critic Picks
Tumblr media
1. Summer of Soul (…or, When the Television Could Not Be Televised) (2021)
Even director Questlove didn’t know about the Harlem Cultural Festival, but now he’s compiled the footage so we can all enjoy one of the coolest music fest lineups ever, including The 5th Dimension, B.B. King, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, and Stevie Wonder, who made my friend’s baby dance more than once in the womb. See it on the big screen for top-notch audio. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
2. Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
Robin Williams takes on the bureaucracy, disillusionment, and malaise of the Vietnam War with comedy. Williams was a one-of-a-kind talent, and here it’s on display at a level on par with Aladdin. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
3. Against the Rules Season 2 (2020-21)
Michael Lewis (author of Moneyball, adapted into a film starring Jonah Hill), is interested in how we talk about fairness. This season he looks at how coaches impact fairness in areas like college admissions, credit cards, and youth sports.
Tumblr media
4. Bugsy Malone (1976)
A gangster musical starring only children? It’s a little like someone just picked ideas out of a hat, but somehow it works. You can hear why in the Bugsy Malone episode Kyla and I released this month on SO IT’S A SHOW?, plus how this weird artifact of a film connects with Gilmore Girls.
Tumblr media
5. The Queen (2006)
Before The Crown, Peter Morgan wrote The Queen, focusing on Queen Elizabeth II (Helen Mirren) in the days following the death of Princess Diana. It’s a complex and compassionate drama, both for the Queen and for Prime Minister Tony Blair (Michael Sheen, who has snuck up on me to become a favorite character actor). Maybe I’ve got a problem, but I’ll never tire of the analysis of this famous family. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9.5/10
Tumblr media
6. The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972)
This month at ZekeFilm, we took a closer look at Revisionist Westerns we’ve missed. I fell hard for Roy Bean, and I think you will, too, if for no other reason than you might like a story starring Jacqueline Bisset, Ava Gardner, John Huston, Paul Newman, and Anthony Perkins. Oh, and a bear! Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 10/10

7. New Trailer Round Up
Naked Singularity (Aug. 6) – John Boyega in a crime thriller!
Queenpins (Aug. 10) – A crime comedy about extreme coupon-ing!
Dune (Oct. 1) – I’ve been cooler on the anticipation for this film, but this new look has me cautiously intrigued thanks to the Bardem + Bautista + Brolin + Chalamet + Ferguson + Isaac + Momoa + Zendaya of it all.
The Last Duel (Oct. 15) – Affleck! Damon! Driver!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Nov. 11) - I’m not sure why we need this, but I’m down for the Paul Rudd + Finn Wolfhard combo
King Richard (Nov. 19) - Will Smith as Venus and Serena’s father!
Encanto (Nov. 24) – Disney and Lin-Manuel Miranda making more magic together!
House of Gucci (Nov. 24) - Gaga! Pacino! Driver!
Also in July…
Kyla and I took a look at the classic supernatural soap Dark Shadows and why Sookie might be obsessed with it on Gilmore Girls.
I revisited a so-bad-it’s-good masterpiece that’s a surrealist dream even Fellini couldn’t have cooked up. Yes, for ZekeFilm I wrote about the Vanilla Ice movie, Cool as Ice, which is now a part of my Blu-ray collection.

MONTHLY MEDIA: July 2021
Oh that smell of summer in the air! Smells like staying indoors and reading or watching movies or playing tabletop role-playing games.
……….FILM……….
Tumblr media
Fear Street: 1994 (2021) We started this trilogy and now that the other two are already out, it was fun to see the seeds of the later movies set up in this one! Clear rules, some fairly gorey stuff (not my bag), and a decent story! I would’ve liked the class stuff to show up a little more than the characters talking about it, but maybe that’s for later movies? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
Black Widow (2021) i had read some bummer buzz about this before seeing it but was pleasantly surprised! Perhaps a little too bombastic for what could’ve been a cool, small spy thriller, but still very entertaining with a fun cast. Though maybe I’m biased cause it reeeeeeally gave me some Winter Soldier vibes.
Tumblr media
Luca (2021) A nice small-scale story. It would’ve been nice if Luca’s desire to learn (and thus wanting to go to school) was hinted at a little sooner, but like...it’s fine. Also I wish we could’ve seen the uncle’s human form SO BAD!
Spy (2015) Pretty good! Suffers from scenes going on too long to try to make the mediocre jokes funnier but I won’t deny that Jason Statham got some of the biggest laughs from me.
……….TELEVISION……….
Tumblr media
Ted Lasso (Episode 1.01 to 1.07) Rewatching season 1 before we dive into season 2 and it’s been such a joy! This show is a joy.
The Bachelorette (Episode 17.05 to 17.08) Still such a refreshing season! Katie seems to be genuinely interested in men that wouldn’t usually make it this far and she herself is such a breath of fresh air. Plus the hosts! What I’m saying is that if you haven’t watched the Bachelorette in a while, this is a good season for jumping back in. Though it’s home stretch so you gotta power through catching up. Do it!
Loki (Episode 1.04 to 1.06) Pretty good! I mean I still like how weird it got, but was it satisfying on its own? Maybe you can’t really judge the marvel shows that way anymore. What’s cool is how it’s setting up bigger stuff but is it fun watching a show that is working towards something else? What about the thing you’re watching now? Anyway it was pretty good.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars (Episode 6.01 to 6.06) This is my first foray into RuPaul’s empire and it’s been fun! First, I think Scarlet Envy was robbed. ROBBED! Second, I feel RuPaul’s music is firmly cemented in 2005. Not there’s anything wrong with that, but I’m surprised by this disconnect.
……….READING……….
Tumblr media
Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett (Complete) I will sing the praises of Terry Pratchett and his Discworld series for as long as I have a voice. Never have I felt like a world is so realized and complete like across this series. The individual books feel small (rarely world-ending stakes) but they always feel important and I feel that’s because of the wonderfully charming characters. THEIR world is at risk and that’s what matters. Gosh just so funny, silly, and at the same time sincere and taken very seriously. If you want to read them in order (my recommendation) then the series really grows as Pratchett gets a grasp on the world, but this would be just as good of an entry point as any.
The Scarecrow of Oz by L. Frank Baum (Complete) Back to the Oz books, though this one (like the other later entries) spend very little time in Oz. Still fun and full of whimsical characters. It’s fun to spend more time with a single familiar character, even if that character doesn’t show up until the back half of the book.
Tumblr media
The Adventure Zone: Here There Be Gerblins by Griffin McElroy, Travis McElroy, Clint McElroy, Justin McElroy, Carey Pietsch (Complete) It was such a delight returning to this story in a new way! Pietsch did such a fantastic job of bringing the audio to life visually and the comic feels like a 1:1 translation of the podcast. The whole thing feels like a labor of love and I’m looking forward to checking out the next chapter!
……….AUDIO……….
Tumblr media
Everybody Sins (Radio Edit) by Andrew W. K. (2021) VERY EXCITED FOR NEW ANDREW W. K.
……….GAMING……….
Tumblr media
Neverland: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) Following last month’s events, the group has been sorting out what to do next. Right now it’s looking like they’re going to explore the giant skull that’s floating out in the ocean (but only after they finish sticking skeleton legs onto their boat). We have fun. Also full recap is over on Reddit!
And that’s it! As always, feel free to share any recommendations and make sure to wear sunscreen.
Happy Saturday!

Typically, Warner Bros and Sony sit out. Disney (and before the merger 20th Century Fox), Universal and Paramount take advantage of the NFL opportunity.
Disney will have two to four trailers, on par with previous Super Bowls. The studio always likes to keep its Super Bowl blast close to the vest, but it’s quite conceivable we’ll see Marvel fare again, specifically Disney+ trailers for Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Solider and possibly their May 7 summer release Black Widow (which also aired a spot last year during Super Bowl), or the March 5 theatrical and Disney+ premium debut of animated pic Raya and the Last Dragon. While Raya seems on track to meet its release date, Covid or not, Black Widow may get delayed. I hear there won’t be any surprises during Super Bowl about Black Widow jettisoning to Disney+. In 24-hour postgame online viewership last year per RelishMix, Black Widow was second at 18.7M views behind F9‘s 110.9M. Mulan, Disney’s second trailer, earned 12.4M views to take third place among movie trailers.
Hulu, I hear, will not have an ad this year, though there will be a Disney bundle ad.

Why WandaVision’s finale was off, and how other Marvel properties might suffer the same fate.
In WandaVision, the finale felt really off. Why? Well, it may have been completely changed after COVID. Something that not a lot of people are talking about is that WandaVision was released at the wrong time. COVID screwed up the entire release order. This was something I didn’t realize until YouTuber Seamus Gorman pointed it out, but here’s the original release order for Marvel Phase 4.
Tumblr media
WandaVision was supposed to come only a month or so before Doctor Strange, after Black Widow, TFAWS, Eternals, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Maybe the reason the finale felt off, and super traditionally Marvel rather than the rest of the show was because some ties to Doctor Strange 2 had to be cut, and it was in the middle of filming when COVID hit. The Multiverse of Madness isn’t coming out for a year, so the finale might have been partially rewritten in order to prevent spoilers for the movie or prevent long-standing cliffhangers. That could explain the total tonal shift, as they had to fill a lot of the episode with fight scenes. There is a set pattern to the Phase 4 release order, too. Black Widow probably helps set up TFAWS, which sets up the Eternals, which sets up Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which could have some ties to WandaVision in terms of what’s going on with Wanda. WandaVision then sets up Doctor Strange, which sets up Loki, which sets up Thor and Guardians 3. Now that has been completely screwed up due to COVID. Since Loki was probably supposed to set up Thor 4, which is now coming out early 2022, some scenes are probably cut from that. Same with TFAWS, if it was supposed to set up the Eternals. So if any of the shows have some weird scenes that don’t really make sense tonally or seem like filler, that’s probably why. This is the new Marvel release order.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (March 19, 2021)
Black Widow (May 7, 2021)
Loki TV show (June 11, 2021)
Shang-Chi: And the Legend of the Ten Rings (July 9, 2021)
What If...? (Summer 2021)
Hawkeye series (Late 2021)
Ms. Marvel (Late 2021)
Eternals (November 5, 2021)
Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 17, 2021)
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022)
Thor: Love and Thunder (May 6, 2022)
So TFAWS isn’t really setting anything up. Hawkeye might set up Ms. Marvel, and the cut TFAWS scenes might end up in either Ms. Marvel or Hawkeye to set up the Eternals. Then Spider-Man 3 might have some backstory cut from WandaVision for Doctor Strange 3, which will then have some cut Loki scenes or backstory for Thor 4. Then setup is back on track, with Thor 4 setting up Guardians 3 and the chain continuing.
