...did marvel seriously kill Frank off just to make a new Punisher?

So, this made me look up Joe Garrison, because I've not been following Marvel that closely beyond DD as of late, and I was actually not aware. Afaik, Frank zapped himself into some fucked up hellscape world at the end of the last Punisher run (which s u c k e d and I hope it gets retconned entirely), so he's not really dead, but it seems like Marvel is, at least for now, claiming that they've retired him. In true comic book fashion, though, it seems like they've given him a way to come back. I mean. Dead characters come back all the time in comics to the point where it's one of the things they're known for, and Frank isn't even dead.

As for Joe Garrison:

Extremely funny to me that his last name is Garrison

In Punisher '87, they had Lynn Michaels and Payback as alternative Punishers, including in an arc where Frank was supposed to be dead, and they didn't stick around. Frank did.

Frank, as some articles claim, also had "problematic baggage", meaning that right-wing paramilitary idiots and the police liked to co-opt his symbol. As a new character, Joe Garrison is supposed to be less "problematic" and have a clean slate. But listen. Listen. This is not going to stop people from co-opting the Punisher symbol. Even if they're trying to make this carbon copy of Frank (who also lost his wife and family) less brutal and more compassionate, he's still got a (vaguely redesigned) skull on his chest, and he's still out there shooting people for vengeance, and, oh yeah, he's still called the Punisher.

Punisher 2020 really read like, "hmmmm there are some unfortunate implications to the way certain people are relating to Frank's character, so rather than address those in a satisfying way that makes sense, we're going to nuke his characterization and stick him in hellscape land for a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ amount of time." Seeing Marvel go from Punisher: Kill Krew to that was so disappointing bro. Like watching a fucking train wreck.

Yeah, Frank has baggage, but you know what he also has? History. Flavor. He's a product of his original context and the time when he was created, and there are ways to adapt that for modern readers that fucking work. (Netflix!Frank did a bang up job of this tbh). Joe Garrison is a former SHIELD agent rather than a war vet. Imo about half the point of Frank's character is how the war taught him violence and he resorted to that as his only response to grief, and it really seems like Marvel thought it was a good idea to copy Frank and sand down all his edges.

As a silver lining, it looks like we're going to see more of MCU Frank in Disney+ Daredevil. Now that the writers and actors have won their strike and with it better working conditions that will hopefully give more respect to their skills, I am tentatively hopeful that it will be better than what the synopsis of Disney+ DD sounded like before (😬). Don't know how much Frank will be in it yet, but maybe this will inspire a little more interest in the character, and we will get another 616 run of Frank at his best: getting forcibly befriended by every child, dog, and senior citizen he encounters in between episodes of gratuitous violence. 😎✌

On a final note, if Marvel wanted to separate Frank from the disturbing amount of people that seem to take him for real-life inspiration--which is the wrong idea to have about any comic book vigilante, lethal or otherwise--all they gotta do is give him a new hot dude version of Microchip and make them fuck like rabbits. Every right-winger who likes the Punisher would immediately drop him like a hot coal. But Marvel won't do that because they're cowards.

nora wasn’t usually one to complain. despite this not being the main student area of the town, she knew that some younger people did live in this building and she wasn’t one to shit on them having fun, but this was starting to get ridiculous. the change from her quiet old lady neighbour to this new one had been jarring. moving around at all times of the night playing music. the worst thing was their headboards seemed to be up against the same wall, and nora could hear everything.

she didn’t want to be this person, but she found herself outside their door knocking. it was still early but she knew they were in, “hey, i’m nora, i live next door.” she started, trying desperately hard to ignore her neighbour’s good looks. “I don’t want to be that annoying neighbour but please, for the love of god i need some sleep tonight can you maybe try out shower sex or something?”

dw i totally agree w/ u re: the arc reactor. but man i was already angry at the fact that the arc reactor, the single Greatest piece of symbolism for tony's character ever, was removed in a short scene at the end, but now that ive realized how good a metaphor it is to chronic illness im even more mad!!! like sure it came back in infinity war but not really!!! UGH im so pressed about this rowan

YEAH like... also the fact that it was the scene at the very end of the movie, and wasn’t... like they didn’t really spend any time at all on the decision because COME ON LET ME SEE THAT! LET ME SEE TONY ABSOLUTLY NOT WANTING TO HAVE SURGERY AGIAN AND JUST BEING FUCKING TERRIFIED ABOUT IT! LET ME HAVE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE RISKS AND THE POSSIBILITIES THAT SOMETHING COULD GO WRONG, LET ME SEE HIM CHOOSING BETWEEN THE POSSIBILITY OF MAYBE NEVER HAVING FULL RANGE OF MOTION AGIAN OR LIVING WITH CHRONIC PAIN AND REDUCED LUNG CAPACITY FOREVER!

like... even if they had had that, had the scene with him stressing out about this, about him making the decision, that would’ve felt way more respectful! don’t just skip straight to the anesthesia! give me the feelings about the fact that this is a difficult choice!

especially bc like..... listen there is no WAY he doesn’t have issues with having surgery especially bc like.... holy fuck in that ending scene his arms were STRAPPED DOWN no WAY that isn’t a massive fucking Issue and i get why, because they’d need the muscles in certain positions to do it and they cant have him unconsciously moving around or hurting himself but... holy fuck there would be Issues there like... how the FUCK was he so calm there. just. chilly giving a thumbs up

that’s not how it would go.

the biggest issue was that it felt rushed. it felt cheap and it felt rushed and imho, it takes a lot away from all the issues from both of the previous iron man movies.

-im super into tablet weaving! i haven't done much yet but when i have time im gonna go a little wild dkdjsnsk im not sure it counts but i also love love love finding tiny bands, theres just. some incredible stuff out there if you fall down the rabbit holes

-its one of the oldest known styles of weaving! (at least early iron age) it functions in the exact opposite way to loom weaving, with the design coming from the twisted warp rather than the weft

-oh gosh high school. i really liked maths + psychology! my favourite teacher was probably also my maths teacher, she purposely stayed around until our year left so she could see us through our gcses :')

-i bet u didn't mean this to be a hard hitting question but. uh. [stares in questioning if im aromantic] i think the best way to answer this is that think ive been as close as i am able? i don't know if im capable of loving people in a way thats distinctly different from the way i love my friends, but i had a partner id have happily spent the rest of my life with, and i feel that counts

when yelena whistled at the cemetery i was like noooooo 🥺😭 those kids were so good actors and forgot for a second they were acting lol. and the montage with the song at the beginning? literal chills. it was amazing.

i loved every single second of it, honestly. apart from loving going back to the theatre and the excitement of watching a marvel movie on there again, i loved the movie. it was so entertaining and i wish i could go back. OMG THANK U TO THE PEOPLE THAT GAVE US THIS MOVIE 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

2020 Creator Wrap: Favourite Works

Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (ish) favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!

i wasn’t tagged in this but i’m trying this thing where i support and love myself? and this feels like a good way to start???? idk don’t ask anyWAYS

1-3 are all from my jiliad, but let us first do since that’s where i put the most energy and hit the most milestones so i’ll be giving myself 3 chapters of that as my faves

1. chapter 15: this was the first chapter where i really leaned into the L&J fluff and really started moving the plot forward- it’s also the one where i hit 100,000 WORDS??? still can’t believe that & am forever freaked out about it

2. chapter 16: a big one for me because it featured the L&J sex talk that was so important yet so nerve wracking for me to put in. i so often see fics move right from the love confession into a sex scene, which is perfectly fine if that’s what the author wants. but i was thinking about how when i started this fic i was 17 yrs old, and so i wanted to show a couple talking seriously and awkwardly about consent and readiness and being open and honest about previous sexual partners. i worked really hard and i’m proud of what we got out of it. also there’s some sweet valentine’s wolfstar moments that i like too <3

3. chapter 19: it’s the latest one so it’s also very near and dear to my heart. i got to write to the tune of garden song which i am convinced led to the wolfstar moment that made it into the chapter. which i am also very proud of! it was a big moment for me to write and it’s not perfect which is why i’m so very proud of it, because it made me feel things regardless of its technical merits so that’s all that matters

4. something about this kid (irondad oneshot):

this fic... it was a birthday present for my dearest rachel (@writethroughthenight) and it took me SO LONG because it fully got away from me but i’ve always loved spiderman and i’ve also always had beef with marvel so i’m super psyched with how it came out. i forced one of my irl friends (alias brenda) to comment and she went above and beyond the string of emojis i expected to leave me seriously one of the nicest comments so that also gave this fic a special place in my heart

5. jukebox heroes ;) (julie & the phantoms oneshot):

i haven’t written for a super active fandom since i stopped writing for the 100 and i forgot how lovely and welcoming they can be. i had such a great experience writing my first jatp fic that i stayed up all night writing this one (and its a texting au which... i love to write SO much). the fandom didn’t disappoint, and so not only am i proud of the fic but i’m also happy that i got to engage with and meet so many new creators:) plus i made some good jokes so read for a good time

that’s it that’s five. i’m just gonna tag anyone who’s like me and doesn’t have someone to tag them in this- if you created anything at all in the past year or even if you haven’t, you deserve to celebrate yourself (i also rly want @datingdonovan to do this with their text posts dont b a coward)

Hank Pym Good.

Sam Wilson is more interesting then Steve & Bucky combined.

Monica was by far the best Captain Marvel and should get the title back.

Related to 3, Carol is uninteresting and Sue is much more immersive as a feminist superpowerful character.

Scott Summers is boring as fuck. He's like the sparkling water of superheroes and Jean can do better.

Logan would be 100% better as a character if he was queer. Cishet Logan is my absolute worst nightmare I hate it <3

The Vision is interesting and has a lot to offer they just have bad writers.

Wanda and Vision's romance is one of the best ever.

Hank McCoy was much better as an Avenger then he was as an X-Man.

Wonder Man deserves more content there are actually interesting meaningful things you could do with him as a character writers are just cowards <3

14 - unpopular opinion about your fandom?

honestly? the favouritism with characters does piss me off. like. okay i do it myself sometimes so i'm not in any way guiltless but i really do feel like if you can write a 2k character analysis on why x moment was ooc or x interaction isn't canon compliant then you can listen to ppl about the characters you maybe care less about instead of taking one or two moments out of context and saying that they're abusive. like if you have "magneto did nothing wrong" despite him emotionally manipulating two traumatised teenagers to join his evil mutant gang but then fill up the reed richards tag with hate then i'm. jsjshdhdb alright. like u can like the characters you like! but idk, it's just so weird when people want everyone to listen to their dissection & critique for their fave but won't consider taking do much as a glance at one for a character they're less familiar with. stop it <3

another milbbang's fic that i keep in my mind for awhile >< yes im craving for their moments asdkjsdk so here it is...

their relationship is platonic as ever. they went to same college and stayed in the same dorm near the uni. but different rooms. hyunjae lived in 4th floor but younghoon lived in 3rd floor. they sticked to each other like a pair of shoes and they took the same majors. everyone would think they are just bestfriends but for them, there is some hidden feelings inside them for each other. but none of them expressed their feelings. they always like being so obvious of showing their affections to each other. it’s like they are more than just bestfriends. hyunjae adores younghoon from head to toe. but he’s a real coward for expressing his feelings to others and he’s just a real tsundere. he’s being like messing with younghoon alot but puts more attentions for him a lot too.

obviously he always like being so caring for younghoon in anytime. younghoon is careless ; and he likes being cute and clingy to others. especially to hyunjae, he always nags and snuggles into hyunjae if he wants something to hyunjae. and hyunjae didnt mind. he always responds with his usual warm smile and nods in everything younghoon wants. they also sometimes cuddled with each other but it’s younghoon who always asked for it . hyunjae’s reactions is just too slow. but is it?

they were sitting in the sofa watching movies marathon (marvel for the exact bcs hyunjae never get bored of it), and the rain pours so hard suddenly

“hyunjae ya”

“uhm?” hyunjae didnt look at hoon but still focusing on the movie

“it’s cold”

“uhm hm, so?” still focusing on the movie

“im cold!!” younghoon pouts and insists that he’s cold while shaking hyunjae’s arms

“there’s a blanket in my bed go take it” hyunjae still didnt look at younghoon. still focusing on the movie.

younghoon becomes more pouty and finally standing up to get the blanket.

actually hyunjae knew, younghoon wants hyunjae’s hugs, but being the sneaky boy he is, hyunjae acted like he didnt get it. he smiled sneakily when younghoon gets the blanket. he sits again beside hyunjae and wears the blanket alone

“share the blanket with mee” hyunjae said in a sudden

“didnt wanna” younghoon distants himself and covers himself with the blanket

“ya its my blanket!!”

“so what” younghoon said carelessly

“fine then” hyunjae is back with focusing the movie

then younghoon scoffed and continue watching the movie with a pout. hyunjae cant help smiling looking at younghoon’s pouty face but he’s trying so hard to hide it. he really wants to kiss all over younghoon’s face right now but he cant. their relationship is not that. it’s sad actually but it’s all their fault. they are just bunch of cowards. then hyunjae turned his head to younghoon and went closer to him slowly.

“dont come near me, the blanket is mine”

hyunjae didnt answer but he still gets his body close to younghoon.

“go away” younghoon pushed hyunjae away but failed, hyunjae still gets closer to him. younghoon whines as he pushed hyunjae but of course he lost. hyunjae got pushed a little actually but then he just pulled younghoon’s curled body covered in a blanket with his hands. younghoon’s body got trapped in hyunjae’s arms and their face is just bit centimeters apart.

“im cold too, could you share the blanket with me uhm?”

“b-but it’s too small for the two of us” younghoon stuttered

“i know” then hyunjae uncovered his arms from younghoon (younghoon seems a bit dissappointed here), then hyunjae pulls younghoon’s body to lay together there in the sofa (thank god hyunjae’s sofa fits for the two of them even it’s lil bit crammed for them). hyunjae puts younghoon’s head in his arms and covered themselves in the blanket together..

of course the blanket cant cover all of their big postures so thats why hyunjae pulls younghoon closer and hugs him tighter. younghoon just follows him around and hugs him back..

“better?”

younghoon just nods and snuggles his head to hyunjae’s chest

“just tell me that you wanna cuddle okay?” hyunjae smiled

“humph” then hyunjae just laughs at younghoon’s adorable actions

“dont you wanna watch the movie though?”

then younghoon turned his head up to hyunjae “we had been watchin this for like 5 times, go just watched it. its ur fav so its okay”

“hahaha okay youre the best” as he carressed younghoon’s hair

they stayed like that for hours, hyunjae continues watching his all-time favourite marvel movies while having younghoon in his arms with playing younghoon’s hair for awhile. younghoon who’s satisfied with the cuddles, he got sleepy and fell asleep in hyunjae’s arms.

one day in their dorm, rain pouring so hard in the evening. fortunately younghoon already came to his room before rain pours but he didnt come home with hyunjae. hyunjae had some things to do with the council so he told younghoon to leave him first.

“i wonder if hyunjae already finished or not, should i call him” younghoon said while sitting in his bed.

younghoon looked at the rain, and the rain keeps falling harder. he tried to call hyunjae, but he didnt answer. he was worried for hyunjae.. did he bring an umbrella or not.. is he okay..

“should i go back… ugh why didnt he answer my call”

then younghoon stands up and wears his jacket, and runs to go outside going back to uni. ofcourse he brings an umbrella.

he walks a lil bit fast and enters the elevator quick. he waits anxiously then “ting” the elevator finally reached the low ground. then when he’s about to leave, he saw hyunjae with damp clothes with messy wet hair

“oh my, hyunjae ya are you alright?” younghoon said worrily and pulls hyunjae’s arm rightaway to elevator.

“uhm yeah a bit, i didnt bring an umbrella so yeah this happens”

“im about to go to you but u didnt answer my calls, im worried sick”

“sorry, my phone died…. ahh choo. oops sorry”

younghoon pats hyunjae’s forehead for awhile and finds it a lil hot

“oh no.. lets just get you dry first”

“uhm”

they went in to the elevator and went straight to hyunjae’s room.

“why didnt you go to your room, i can handle it myself it’s okay younghoona”

“no. you cant take care of yourself well, i bet you will just throw your wet shirt anywhere and just sleep after that, you wont eat and go straight to sleep right? i’ll make you some food to eat before you sleep. or else you’re about to get sick for real”

“hehe you just know me too well”

younghoon still grabs hyunjae’s arm and went in to hyunjae’s room. younghoon inserts the password in the doorlock then goes in with damp hyunjae.

“ just go take a shower first, i’ll make you a warm food”

“okay”

hyunjae showered quickly and dressed up warmly with a big size hoodie and training pants with a wet messy hair. younghoon just finished cooking a warm ramen for hyunjae and puts it on the table.

"eat first then i’ll dry your hair okay”

then hyunjae sits and eats the ramen younghoon made. youunghoon then tried to find the hair dryer.

then younghoon dried hyunjae’s hair while hyunjae eats the ramen..

“you cant get sick hyunjae ya.. promise me”

“i will.. but stay with me for tonight please”

“uhm alright”

“cuddle me” he pleaded

“uhm alright alright” younghoon smiled

“im tired…”

“i know.. please just rest today okay?”

“uhm”

younghoon finished drying hyunjae’s hair and it looked cute bcs hyunjae’s natural hair was curly so it’s almost like a bird nest

“im dizzy” younghoon taps hyunjae’s forehead again and it still burning

“wait, i’ll get a wet towel for you, just lay down right now okay”

hyunjae lays down and covers himself up with the blanket

younghoon quickly puts the wet towel to hyunjae’s head and gives him some medicine.

“drink this and get some sleep” younghoon sits beside hyunjae and wipes his head with the towel while carressing his face

“stay..”

“uhm i’ll stay”

“come heree please” hyunjae moves himself away to make a space for younghoon beside him

younghoon gets in and covers himself too in a blanket.
