The Problem With Writing Ancient Deities and Characters
We all love a good solid scary ancient deity right?
In my main WIP, there are creatures known as the Deis who influence the course of the story. Throughout history the Deis have been worshipped on/off as deities but in reality they're not gods, but rather a primordial species of semi-corporeal inter-dimensional sapient creatures, but even so.
Their ancient-ness makes them a great challenge to write (in my opinion.)
Tumblr media
I have two in particular, both antagonists, one who features quite a bit in the story, the other who shows up more at the beginning and end.
Basically, I'm really struggling with this aspect of getting into their headspace and actually making them feel this old and believable, as well as pinning their motives down.
So, anyone else have something similar? What are the ways you've made these characters feel more impactful? How do you make them feel old, ancient, and on a different level of consciousness than your human characters?
Please share your experiences and thoughts!

villian pet peeves
i genuinely hate it when ppl are talking about someone in a book series or a story or a show and go "this characters actions are unforgivable" or "these characters actions are unexcusable" like YEAH. THATS THE POINT.
You don't have to argue over and excuse a character who was obviously ment to be a villain
Their villainy is what drives the story, they add depth and layering and danger to the world around them
For me, Darkstalker (wof), Mapleshade (wc), and Artificer (rw) are great examples of this, with Maple probably being the most prominent
There's SOOOOO much discourse over whether or not she's really evil and to that I answer: yes. Yes she is. She killed 3 other cats. She's a murderer. Yes, she is also sympathizable during the begining of her story, but she is still a evil villain, as she's supposed to be.
Them being irredeemable is exactly what they're supposed to be. They all have tragic/sad backstories, they all suffered, and then projected that and made other people suffer
The antagonists ALONE help drive the motif of a story, if it isn't some other larger force, and that's what makes it so interesting
Stop whining about how a murder is a bad guy. Stop defending them like their pure. Regard them as what they are supposed to be, a piece of the plot, a driving force.
They are not real.
DONT REGARD THEIR ACTIONS AS IF THEY ARE xdddd

Demon king x fem Hero
I need more of this, just imagine the shock when they are fighting and the Demon king realizes that the hero is a woman, or when the demon king wins against the Hero and as punishment he turns him into a woman "his woman". There is just so many possibilities and scenarios in my head. The drams the angst. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ♥️♥️♥️
I am sick of the Hero falling for the princess, childhood friend, priestess, etc.
Give me drama, Feed me with chaos angst 🤣🤣♥️♥️♥️♥️

Zhongli x Reader headcanon pt 2 continuation
So after a few moments of staring in each others eyes, he put an arm around your shoulders and his other hand holding your head, you put your hands around his waist and pulled him closer to you, activating the dragon in him and making him start kissing you.
He was a mix of soft, passionate, and brutal the way he kissed and bit your lips, yet so careful not to hurt you or make you feel uncomfortable at any moment.
After a while he parted from your lips and threw you down onto his bed, unbuttoning his shirt, you were calm, letting it happen and just looking up at him , then he paused and looked at you; “would you like me to continue?”
He said with a deep voice, enchanting you so could barely react, other than softly agreeing and nodding your head. He went on after your confirmation, and climbed on top of you, his muscular body felt good knowing it fit so well with yours, you could feel the thrust of his hips as his hands wandered down your body while he still kissed you; becoming more nervous, feeling like he was going too fast and you weren’t ready but you didn’t want it to stop, his lips moved down to your jaw then your neck then…
Before unbuttoning your shirt he stopped, his lips close to your chest, he looked up at you waiting for permission to continue
You either stoped it here or you entered the forbidden link to keep reading, your decision~

Daniel Radford Writes is one of the Best-Selling Fiction Authors. Science Fiction is one of the most popular and diverse genres present in storytelling. Many of the most highly regarded stories are sci-fi stories as are many of my favourites. So, when I decided to share some recommendations for media, sci-fi seemed like a good genre to start with.
In this post and in similar posts going forward, I’m intentionally making an effort to cover a bunch of different storytelling mediums. I want to make sure there is something for everyone.

After the occupation, the princess was confined to the palace.
Once a month she'd be taken on a walk around the city, heavily guarded of course, to show the people that she still lived. It also served, of course, as a reminder of what they stood to lose if they made trouble. The princess did her best go wave and smile and give the people what encouragement she could.
The rest of the time, her life was spent in musty rooms and dusty towers. She filled most of her time scouring the castle for materials which she would sew into more and more elaborate outfits, which she would show off on the days when she was allowed outside.
Indeed, the public loved their princess and her dresses so much they'd often sketch or paint them along the route and pass the images on so that all could see the princess at least was well.
This pleased the occupiers for two reasons. First: it kept the princess out of trouble. Second: it gave them a reason to sneer and they did love a good sneer.
"What a vain creature she is!" They would remark.
"Doesn't even care we murdered her brothers so long as she gets enough satin to make her little dresses!" They squawked.
This was unfair, of course, for to call her creations "little dresses" was to call Queen Murderfun the Needlessly Genocidal "a tad piquey". Her dresses were gravity-defying wonders lace and pearl. They were thunderstorms captured in velvet and waterfalls summoned in silk. She was a wizard with silk.
Still, she bore their mockery with a tight smile and careful deference.
"Please, good sirs, my home, my people and my city now belong to you. Let me keep, at least, this one last joy."
And they sneered and they crowed most unpleasantly, but they let her keep her sewing room.
Of course, they would have known their mockery to be doubly unfair had they realised the true purpose of the princess's elaborate designs. For hidden in the intricate embroiderings across her gowns, jackets and fans, the princess had encoded secret (and very detailed) messages. When she would go on her monthly walk, the city's loyalists would line the route, sketching down the patterns to decode later.
Thus did the princess transmit all the occupiers' secrets (unearthed while supposedly 'searching the castle for old fabrics') to the city and thus did she build her resistance.
On the day the revolution finally came, she girded herself in armour of thick spider silk and whale bone. She cut a fine figure with a lacy handkerchief in her top pocket and a razor sharp knitting needle keeping her hair up.
As she waltzed through the castle to open the door for her army, the Usurper King tried to stop her and she simply unfolded her handkerchief and showed it to him.
Upon seeing the impossible arcane pattern emblazoned across it, he fell to the floor with blood streaming from his eyes.
She always had been a wizard with silk.
