I have this weird idea that my character and Astarion just sit there and pretend to sleep and decided it was the best course of action. To you know, not weird anyone else out. Until…in annoying to everyone else whispers
🧝🏻‍♀️“Hey Astarion?”
🧛“Yes darling….”
🧝🏻‍♀️“You asleep?”
🧛“No my sweet….”
🧝🏻‍♀️“Should we just pretend to make the others feel better?”
🧛“…….ugh...yes…😒”
🧝🏻‍♀️“Ok….😐zzzzzzz”
“Nope. That’s not creepy of you two at all…” -Karlach
😳😳
Narrator: She then grabs nearest chair and uses the move night night smash on the two wide ass awake elves and their heads. Thus the quest for a better option begins and they find the elvish form of melatonin. There was much rejoicing for everyone else. Karlach misses the chair option. Astarion and Tav disapprove of all of it.
Fun thing too, in Tolkien’s world elves do not sleep much either. And IF they do, it is with their eyes wide open! Can you imagine? I bet at first Pipp was having late night conversations with Legolas and Gandalf thinking they were awake when in fact they were asleep. 💤 the next day when bringing up the conversation from the night before Legolas and Gandalf were like “what?” And meanwhile Merry is like …. Because he knew. Hahaha

The Absolute owns my mind. I cannot remember a time when her voice did not fill it. Except tonight...tonight the Absolute was silent. I only heard your breath and your voice.

Today I watched Aragorn's speech from Return of the King three or four times, as one does. I think I've finally figured out why this speech makes me feel better, while a lot of Big Epic Fantasy Speeches just make me sad.
Aragorn doesn't tell these people that defeating Sauron will fix everything, for everyone, forever. Instead, he begins by admitting that the Men of the West have fucked up. They've made mistakes in the past. They will continue making mistakes in the future. And one day, they will undoubtedly fuck up beyond repair-- but not yet. Not this day.
I'm not saying that the messages in Lord of the Rings are flawless. They aren't. But while most fantasy books say "you have to save the world," Aragorn says "you can make it through the day." You can postpone your doom by a day, a week, a year, a decade. That's a hell of a lot more believable than "happily ever after to the end of his days."

Not to be dark and kinky in the Dragon Age tag but Solas’s wolf symbolism should be slightly more than symbolism. He may be quiet and calm normally but I know him and Inky had weird fucked up sex in the fade. I know he chased her down I know he ripped her heart out with his hands. I know that Solas understands devouring as devotion more than anyone else usually can.

They finally beat their pasts and now, even if there's still some tadpoles to evict, they are taking a moment to rest and relish in the possibility of a future.

Realization I just had while being slightly tipsy listening to De Selby (Part 1) on repeat at 11 PM.
Since in my AU elves have weird circadian rhythms (such that they only sleep every 48-96 hours), in any majority elven settlement, there won't be a time of day or night where everyone is asleep and things have really slowed down. There's probably lulls in activity around midday and midnight, but overall, there's always gonna be a lot of people awake doing whatever.
So it's kind of a culture shock of sorts when an elf moves, willingly or not, to a settlement that's majority non-elven (i.e. has a more predictable circadian rhythm/activity cycle). And suddenly nighttime takes on a whole new meaning and feeling. What was just another time of day essentially is now this new place where you can actually be alone. Everything is actually, genuinely quiet. And especially if you're a night elf, that's probably a pretty profound feeling.

I spent the last 7 hours trying out a monk in bg3 and playing it in honor mode, and Gale's stupid stinky corpse being in the camp ended up causing him to kill Scratch with his nasty aura. Since it's honor mode, I can't reload a save, so I simply blew my character and Gale up and ended the run with honor.
#simon says#bg3#i was SO upset#i was like 'wait is Gale killing any companions nearby with his death aura?'#after I made Withers pick him up#so I went and checked and I saw Scratch walking around in the Aura with only like 6 hp left#and in my panic I didn't think to simply revive Gale asap#so I tried to think about how I would get scratch out of there and he died#i already fucked up the run earlier by argoing the goblin camp way too soon#like I tried to get priestess Gut to knock my character out so I could get Rapheal to send someone to kill her and her guard#and I could go to the underdark#because I found out that if you save the Gnomes before doing the tiefling party the gnomes will show up too#and I wanted to try that out in this run#but I FUCKED it up because I forgot that ELVES CAN'T BE MAGICALLY PUT TO SLEEP#AND I WAS PLAYING A DROW#im so upset because I was getting a lot more drow dialog than usual (like I dont remember getting a lot of this in past playthroughs)#and I was playing a non-lolth-sworn drow so I got to do new dialog options#i am so upset like I really liked this character#i ended up fucking up with Poetry's run so I was putting off playing it#because I ended up triggering the Isobel kidnapping scene and it went south instantly#so everyone in the last light inn is dead and that is a BUMMER tbh#like that shit is DEPRESSING tbh#anyways tomorrow I will probably start a new honor mode run#gonna do halfling this time since my other halfling game is so fun#i feel bad for neglecting said game but since I can't really change it to honor mode I kinda like... have been ignoring it#ive honestly been ignoring all good non-honor mode playthroughs#I've been really enjoying honor mode but im also trying to do an evil durge playthrough since I never did evil before#anyways very pissy very mad#very upset that I ruined the 2 honor mode games I enjoyed playing#like I didn't even need to see Isobel!!! i didn't need to trigger that fight!! i had the pixie's blessing!!

kasander + 😴 please!
Thank you ❤️ Sleep questions about D&D elves always lead peculiar places, don't they?
hc + 😴 for a sleep-themed headcanon
Kasander seldom sleeps willingly. Their trance is already haunted by half-alien memories of blood and darkness, disorganized images they struggle to stitch together and match to their origins. It's upsetting even without any supernatural incursion causing more extreme visions, and it makes them fear resting. Sleeping, on the rare experiment trying to avoid the memories, is much worse. They always dream, and they always dream Bhaal's dreams. And it takes such a terribly long time to wake. So they avoid sleeping, and they're thankful not to have a reason to.
However, sleep is the most convenient way for the Emperor to contact them, and the Emperor has a way of pulling them under whenever he pleases. When they first met and the Emperor was still in the form of the Dream Visitor the Emperor offered to soothe their nights from the restless, terrible trance by quieting their dreams- if only they would sleep, of course. Disoriented, still largely amnesiac, and distressed by the visions, Kasander agreed eagerly (there was a lot of agreeing with the Emperor then) and committed themself to the psionic protection out of desperation for any relief from the growing fear there was something wrong with them. It did seem to work- mostly- but when Kas began to break with the Emperor they stopped sleeping nightly as well. By that point they were ready to grapple with the horrors of trance again, as painful and difficult as they were.

I have this thing where I'll try to go to sleep, but in all of my dreams there's this badly edited person in the corner, doing the irish jig to the "taking the Hobbits to Isengard" remix

I like to think about how Astarion being an elf interacts with his being a vampire, especially when it comes to lifespan. Elves already count their lives in centuries rather than decades, so I imagine the prospect of immortality doesn't frighten him the way it does other spawn. To be a human or a tiefling or even a dwarf, with this change you're faced with eternity -- an eternity of suffering, if you're unlucky enough to remain bound to your sire throughout it all. That is... a lot to face.
But for Astarion, that prospect is no more or less bleak than it would be if he were alive. Elves are raised to think on a different time scale than the short-lived races. A year of imprisonment is still torture, to be sure, but it is far less likely to break an elf's mind than a human's.
And sure, he'll outlive any former friends and loved ones he had while he was alive -- but an elf is used to facing this prospect. By the time they reach maturity (by elven standards, which are, of course, different than those of a human), they've already outlived any human friends they might have had when they were young. Outliving your friends is nothing new for an elf -- and it will be a very long time before he has to worry about watching his elven peers age and die.
Staying young and beautiful forever? Already par for the course for an elf. No longer need to sleep? Check. Sunlight sensitivity? There's a whole (admittedly vilified) subrace of elves who deal with that.
So really. Elves and vampires, not that different.
