PAC: What Happened In A Past Life With Your Spouse? Pt1

Hello sex witch! I hope i am not disrespectful or annoying in sending this ask. Im a mid 20s straight dude who has never had any sexual experience, and i know people constantly say that it doesnt define me, that i shouldnt base my self worth on that, but the fact is it is incredibly alienating to be an adult who simply does not participate in what for most people seems to be a normal part of adult life. I want to have sexual experiences, but at this point im afraid i am like… too broken to start? Like who would want to initiate a sexual experience with someone like me yknow? I often worry that I'm missing the 20-something straight dude demographic, but I'm glad to know some of y'all are out there, because you deserve compassionate conversations about sex as much as everyone else does :)

I'm gonna say this right up front: you're not broken. nobody is! whenever you find yourself worrying that there's something about you that would make any potential partner go running, I want you to imagine the situation were reversed. if a woman you were attracted to told you something about herself that was the same thing you're ashamed of in yourself, would you stop being attracted to her?

in this case, would it be a dealbreaker for you that someone else hadn't had any previous sexual partners? would you think they were broken and unfuckable, or would you see that as just one aspect of a person who's much more than their sexual history?

if you wouldn't feel negatively about a partner having that trait then I'm sorry, you're not allowed to hate it in yourself! them's the rules!

listen: very rarely does a person pick a sexual partner because of their extensive sexual resume. people connect over shared interests, over similar senses of humor and values, over bonds that can be formed in a second if the vibes are right. most people won't care how many other partners you've had; they'll care if you seem interesting and dynamic and worth getting to know more in a carnal manner.

Okay, just, hear me out

Y'know how Gabriel is, like, dying and all that? (Don't hate on me if this as changed, I'm super not caught up.) So, what if he does die.

Ladybug and Chat Noir are super confused, heck, all of Paris is, cuz Monarch has been completely silent.

Adrien is, of course, super depressed and upset, and his friends mourn with him.

Ladybug gets a message, somehow, from Natalie, asking to talk to her and Chat privately. They meet up, and she tells them everything, including the fact that she is dying. She doesn't want anybody else to go through what they have.

Ladybug, though devastated due to what this means for Adrien, the love of her life, is also ecstatic to have the miraculous back, and is so distracted by reuniting with the Kwamis that she misses what Chat says. But Natalie doesn't.

I don't know what he'd say, maybe, "I can't believe my dad would do this" or "how could I have missed this" or "I can't believe you guys lied to me" (maybe even, "my dad tried to kill me?"). Honestly it doesn't matter.

Whatever he says, Natalie is smart. Yeah, she's made mistakes, but she's smart. Even if it takes her a second to figure it out, and another second or two in order to account for shock and the realization of what she did to the boy she has considered to be something like a son, she gets there, and fully breaks down.

She can't stop apologizing. Chat/Adrien, despite everything that has happened, comes to her side, and wraps her in a big hug, and comforts her. He's still upset, angry even, but he will stay by her side. Eventually, he'll understand why they did what they did. But for now, he's going to do everything he can to fix this as best as he can. For Natalie and his mother.

Ladybug is also smart. But she can't figure out why Chat is so determined to figure out how to fix the peacock miraculous. I mean, sure, it's important, it's their best chance of saving Natalie and Emilie, but he doesn't seem to be doing it out of a sense of urgency. Instead, he seems to be absolutely desperate. She's seen Chat face monsters, seen him as a monster himself, yet this is the worst she's seen him. Though Monarch had been defeated, Chat Blanc returns to her nightmares.

Marinette notices Adrien's strange behavior as well. He's exhausted, and constantly on edge. It makes sense, his dad had just died, but there seemed to be more. He was rushing home as soon as he could, as often as he could. He was constantly reading books and was barely eating.

Finally, with Alya and the kwamis' help, she connects the dots. She feels terrible. She throws herself into the work just as much as Chat/Adrien has.

In the end, in the nick of time, they find a way to save Natalie and Emilie. Emilie is horrified at what her best friend and husband had done, yet wonders what she would have done in their place. Chat breaks down and detransforms the second he sees his mother. (Many hugs and tears amongst the four.) He doesn't even realize what he has done, and most certainly doesn't notice Ladybug turning into Marinette. After calming down, however, he too connects the dots. He stares at her, and she just smiles. He smiles right back.

Anyway, just a random thought I had in the tub after watching miraculous with my baby siblings

The sound of music always brought me peace, I work at a record shop because I love being around vinyls and just anything music related really. I also really enjoy reading It's always brought me a sense of comfort as well as writing and poetry. Honestly it makes me really happy, and ever since I was a kid I've always written songs and maybe sang a little bit but that’s a secret. I don't know what it is but I always feel like it helps me forget about everything that’s wrong in my life, my parents died when I was 16 so it’s always been just me and my two little brothers. I love them more than anything and I'd do anything for them. Today was just a regular day at work I was putting vinyls on the racks that they go on when two guys walk into the store, I look over and give them a soft smile.

‘hii welcome let me know if you need any help finding any artist or vinyl specifically’ they smile at me and nod as one of the boys catches my eye, I’m a very shy person so I decided not to say anything unless I needed to. After a couple minutes I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned around and saw the guy who caught my eye standing in front of me. ‘hi um i wanted to ask you something’ he seemed very nervous but also very confident weird mix. ‘yes of course how can i help you’ I smiled softly at him hoping to make him more comfortable, ‘do you happen to have “circles” by Mac miller’ he says as he does a side smile. I smile at him as I think about how I also enjoy mac miller.

‘yea over here!’ i walk over and pull it off the rack, ‘this is one of my favorites’ i say chuckling, ‘i really like this one’ he says turning the vinyl around. ‘what other artists do you like?’ ‘i really like d4vd and um frank ocean oh! Omg Dominic Fike omg Tyler the creator?! is so amazing and oh my god i'm rambling im so sorry’ I blushed getting a little nervous, ‘nah you're good’ he smiles as I look up at him and smile softly. We stand there until the guy he came with comes up to him ‘woah you guys twins or am I dumb?’ ‘nahh triplets’ he says laughing ’oh cool” i say and start checking them out. ‘You're the first to not ask us a million and one questions about being triplets’ he chuckles, ‘yea nah y'all will tell me over time’ I smirk i say with my boston accent coming through a little.

‘oh so you plan on getting to know us’ he smirks a little ‘oh totally y’all look cool’ I laugh, ‘you're from boston?’ The other guy says noticing my backpack in the back with the Boston logo. ‘yes i am’ i laugh ‘us too!’ ‘What's your name?’ The guy who got my eye says ‘I’m y/n’ ‘cool im matt and hes chris’ ahh Matt hot guy hot name. ‘cool!’ I hand them the bag and me and Matt make eye contact, ‘have a good day’ ‘thanks you too’ matt says smiling at me. They walk out and i really hope i see them again.

I finally got to clock out of work It was so tiring and I needed to make sure my little brothers were ok. I get to my car and get settled in and connect my phone to the aux and play “Ivy” by Frank Ocean. I’m so glad to be going home I think as I started driving I decided that I was gonna pick up a pizza for my little brothers because I got paid today and I know how much they love pizza. We aren't broke completely but we definitely struggle sometimes recently things have been rough but I finally got a promotion so it's getting a little easier I got the pizza and started heading home I got home and when i opened the door and my brothers cody and alex run up to me and ‘sissyyyy we missed you’ alex says hugging me, ‘aww i miss you too bud’ ‘sissy you bought pizza!’ Cody says looking like his eyes are gonna pop out of his head.

i walk over to alexa who’s been my best friend for years, she helps me with my brothers and just around the house ‘thank you so much lex’ i say hugging her ‘Of course love that's what best friends are for’ she says smiling softly ‘wanna spend the night and when i put them to bed we can talk?’ ‘yeah okay sure’ Alexa smiles at me while i feed the boys.

I start to give the boys a shower and as i’m showering cody he looks up at me with the biggest smile on his face. ‘sissy I wanna be just like you when i grow up.’ He says playing with the bubbles, ‘aww little c i love you a lot bub and i know one day you’ll be even better than me’ i say tearing up, cody has always been more clingy to me than Alex is but not as much, cody doesn’t like to leave my side and he is the sweetest kid ever. Him saying he wants to be like me does hurt a little because I've been through a lot of shit but the fact that I look strong in his eyes makes up for it all. I put them to bed and Me Alexa got some wine and took a seat on the couch.

‘So how was your day?’ She says sitting next to me. ‘it was good omg lex these two really cute brothers came into the shop and oh my god girl’ I say blushing thinking of Matt ‘speaking of cute brothers you know the guy i was talking to?’ ‘yes why?’ ‘this is him and his brother I’d think you like him’ she turns her phone and pulls out a picture.

‘hold up hold up let me see that?!’ i say taking the phone from her ‘omg thats the cute guys that came in today’ ‘Omg?! yeah i've been talking to chris for a minute now’ ‘matt’s pretty attractive just sayin’ I couldn’t help myself but blush i don’t know what’s wrong with me fuck Y/N get it together. ‘oooo y/n has a crush?’ ‘oh shut the fuck up’ ‘oh come on you haven’t had a boyfriend since your parents died’ she says starting to get serious, ‘i know but my brothers mean the world to me lex i need to make sure there ok i don’t have the time’ I would love to give Matt a chance but i don’t know.

‘your brothers would want you to be happy y/n/n’ she says rubbing my knee, ‘I know but it's not about me being happy i need to make sure there happy i have to be a mother figure to them they need me’ ‘i get that babes but you need to remember you lost them too your only 20 rasing two kids you need to be a kid too especially since you were forced to grow up so quick’ i look at her and nod I mean I understand where she’s coming from but my brothers are all I know. ‘i love you y/n i'm just looking out for you ima head to bed goodnight love’ ‘night babes’ as she walks off and goes to into the guest room i kinda sit there think about what she said and i mean she's right but i can’t risk something happening to my brothers. I head upstairs and head to bed because i have another day of work but holy fuck thank god it's friday.

I woke up the next morning only because my alarm for work went off and i see it’s 9:44 so i know Alexa is getting my brothers ready for school I get out of the bed and i started to get ready for work. I finished getting ready for work when my younger brother Cody came into the room with tears in his eyes. ‘sis…’ he says in a sad tone I turned around quickly and scooped him into my arms ‘aww what's wrong love?’ i say concerned.

‘i don’t wanna go to school i wanna stay home with you can you please skip work..’ he says in a whiny tone, ‘Aww bub i wish i could help but you know the rules’ When i got custody of cody and alex the court gave me really strict rules to follow, i had to make sure they were always at school, they weren’t falling and that i kept a stable job and make enough money or else they would take them away. ‘I know but i hate being at school kids are mean to me and alex’ i look at him feeling bad but i don’t wanna risk losing them. ‘I’m sorry bub if i could keep you and alex with me 24/7 forever i would’ i say hugging him tightly.

i got to work over an hour ago and to say its boring is an understatement. Just as i think that i hear the bell ring meaning someone walked into the store, i look up ready to greet them and i realize its matt. ‘Matt? Hey’ i say smiling. ‘Hey um i know this might be weird but i um.. Well so my brother chris the one that was with me last time uh i found out that the girl hes been talking to happens to be your best friend right?’ ‘yeah shes my best friend’ ‘well um she kinda encouraged me to come back..’ ‘what do you mean?’ ‘well i uh wanted to see if you were willing to go out with me… you don’t have to its o-‘ he starts to say but i cut him off. ‘Sure why not’ i say smiling i don’t know what happened but he was too sweet for me to say no to.

‘Wait really?’ ‘yea i mean i can’t deny you are pretty cute..’ ‘well thank you’ he laughs damn something about the way he laughs i dont know but it feels almost addicting to listen to. ‘Uh are you free saturday?’ ‘yeah i am’ i smile ‘sweet! Ill text you’ ‘okay bye matt’ ‘bye” he blushed a little bit as he left the shop. Shit who’s gonna watch cody and alex?!

Oh gosh here we go again- the peak of my hyper fixation on something where I finally post a theory... SO CROCODILE- (Y'all love this guy on tumblr-)I'm going to be very truthful, this started out as a head cannon which I found evidence for in this theory to bring my idea's to completion, and really ties up my thought process together.

What are the key takeaways? 1. Crocodile specifically Avoids having a ring on ring finger, and this could be because he has a spouse 2. Him having lost them in some way, and Iva knowing about them. But why Iva? And why do I say them? Y'all already know- I'm saying Crocodile is gay, and has a husband, well somewhere out there. This makes logistic sense because well, why Iva becomes answered, but we also have a subtle hint in crocodiles overall design. Firstly

Crocodiles Outfit is surprisingly evocative of the victorian dress. Mostly thanks to the vest and cravat look. Additionally, the victorian era began in 1837, very close to when Cigars became popular. I bring this up partially because I think it's cool, and partially because it allows for some implications to come across, as one piece's world spans socially over several decades in terms of atmosphere and acceptance. Mostly that the victorian era was a time where being LGBTQ+ was still considered taboo. So while most of new kama is living in the times of 1970's to modern day, he is very much living in the victorian era. One revolves around being loud and proud, and the other very much around subtleties. What subtleties does he have? Well. For starters, It's a very- Choice colour with the purple vest there. (this is mostly a joke, although purple is associated with signalling, it's usually a different manner as far as I'm aware.) What I actually want to talk about is the earring. Most characters in one piece Wear double earrings if they are wearing them (I.E. Law, bart, Nami, Blackbeard etc.) For those of you unaware, Earring signalling goes like this. Right is gay, left is straight. I could only find three characters wearing a single earring. 1. Zoro on his left. 2. Benn Beckman on his right (Good for him!/hj) and 3. Crocodile on his right. So with this ramble aside. I think his interactions with Iva and the gays TM make much more sense. He's down with the gays because well. He is. They literally give him an entirely new outfit, just like they do for the rest of the LGBTQ+ people they bring in. And why IVA SPECIFICALLY would know that he is married, as per Iva knowing and being all gay peoples parent (/hj). In all seriousness I think it would make sense in this context that he asked Iva to help with his wedding or something of the like, since he (and presumably his husband) likely didn't have many connections to people who could do wedding stuff non-judgementally I.E. a cake or getting someone to do the vows. It's very wholesome, but it's something that I could see as Crocodile wanting to be kept secret, as he's been characterized as someone very secretive. This part is pure speculation/almost definitely false; but. I could definitely see some sort of "held hostage" situation. As Crocodile said "If you want to protect something, do it right." This could be someone who is protecting something, but also someone who lost it. I mean, they've forced the other warlords into similar corners, with the protection of Amazon Lily, or the release of Arlong (and likewise the safe return of all the escaped slaves from the Sun pirates who just wanted to go home.) It makes the "wanting to have a power that can match the WG or any nation in force" goal of his have a much more interesting reason than "KING OF THE PIRATES." We got enough folks aiming for that already, and I feel like if you beat an early antagonist that badly and just keep using him, you gotta have some kind of pay off that doesn't involve him getting beat again.

Because I literally can't keep my mouth shut I gotta comment on the Gale Fatherhood Discourse TM lmao. /(it's not really discourse at all).

This gets long, sorry not sorry 💕💕💕

First I gotta say it loud and clear for all y'all (because I know how tumblr works: its all or nothing for canon discourse)- if you don't jive with parenthood headcanons that's totally valid. If you find it icky, I get you. If you enjoy the headcanons, more power to you to create them and enjoy them. I love to see different perspectives in fandom content. It means the original material is inspiring. What follows is my interpretation of the content that may or may not align with your interpretation. And that's not a reflection on you or I if our interpretations don't align.

Okay with that out of the way--

I have a p different interpretation of the "I'm not father material " line from Gale. In the context of the scene, as most know, Tav is asking Gale to open up their relationship (for Halsin).

Gale is notoriously awkward around the concept of sex (ala his reaction to the foursome in the brothel), fiercely monogamous to the point of obsessive devotion, and known to make jokes in dark situations. I interpret this reaction not as naivete or a moment of honesty, but an intentional attempt to gain some control over the conversation. Gale is trying to defuse the situation because he feels uncomfortable and bad about it!! We already know he has problems with feeling inferior in romantic relationships. Tav walking up and just asking to have sex with another guy, to Gale, would call into question his own position in the relationship. I mean, just look at the very next line:

"I thought what we had meant something to you."

He's angry and afraid that he's going to lose someone he loves. He's not genuinely commenting on his opinion of parenthood, he's just going through it.

This conversation also mirrors his reaction in the conversation in which Tav is romancing someone else and Gale asks them to choose.

So no, in my opinion, I don't think it's really the smoking gun of the canon that some people are making it out to be. It's a very Gale response tho, it all makes sense in the meta of his issues with romance and self-esteem.

I also have some thoughts on his opinion of students (which some ppl have cited towards the Gale is a Bad Father side).

At some point, I can't find a screenshot, Gale mentions he once had apprentices but they really annoyed him. (Which is very funny tbh.) Then, during the Trial of Love, choosing the correct answer of "apple" for the "What food is Gale?" question, gets you this line:

So in his incredibly vulnerable Trial of Love, typified by his own honesty, he admits that he dreams of being a professor and having devoted students.

Does this reflect his opinions on parenthood? Not really imo.

I think this aligns way more with Gale's desire to have someone devote love and attention to him. To be respected and lauded. Gale desperately wants to be acknowledged for his genius, his arcane skills, and to be appreciated for sharing his knowledge (read: sharing his true self, the little nerdy wizard guy Gale Dekarios). It connects back to the concept of ✨Gale of Warerdeep ✨, the fabricated man he wanted to be to impress Mystra, and gain a high level of respect and awe. Not so much a commentary on how he feels about students as people or children. The students are just the vessel through which he can gain respect.

But the tl;dr of it all is that I don't think there is a canon moment that makes a statement clearly on Gale's interest in starting a family or his thoughts on children. I think it's a really interesting thought experiment to dissect and contemplate what kind of father Gale might be like based on the canon examples we have to work with. So whichever camp you fall into, so long as you're engaged and having fun with it, you're doing it right.

Well I'll be damned.

I try not to think too much about numbers and metrics. I like to go about my life, make the best work I can, and not feel like I'm turning it into a hustle. I've learned that I tend to gain X or Y number of subscribers per new comic so I'd given myself a goal of trying to hit 1,500 by Christmas. Needless to say, I'm all kinds of thrilled to find that number hanging out on my page this morning. 🌲🎃🤠🥳🍹🐐

I can't thank y'all enough for your support, in any way it comes. New Webtoons subscribers are wonderful and likely help my visibility on the site but more than anything, seeing new comments on older strips brings me so much joy. That's Just the best word for it. Joy.

It means a lot to know the silly fantasy microagression comic I made while hiding from COVID connects with people. Whether it gives them a laugh or resonates with something deeper, I'm glad to have made that connection. Crittertongue is a place where I can play, process, and explore the inside of my own head. It's a place I'm very happy to share.

There were a pair of short story comics I wrote for a local Halloween horror anthology at a time where I knew things weren't right but couldn't really find the edges of the problem.

I found myself crying my face off while writing scripts. It seemed a bit unhinged to cry over a ghost story. After finally getting some better resources and support, I was able to see what was feeding that flood. That was a transformative process for me, as someone who's made art his whole life and rarely ever viscerally connected with it before. At least not on purpose.

As things have grown, improved, evolved, I've become more confident in my ability to do that on purpose. Crittertongue is how that lives for me right now. It's also a delightful way to be a bit of a goblin, creature it up, and make things my mom probably shouldn't read. I contain multitudes and sev'ral of them multitudes are real... bawdy. Regardless of whether it ever "does numbers" or takes off in any internet sense, I'll be very happy to know the thing I make is a treat for people. There's a lot of negativity out in this electric sea and I consider myself fortunate to have attracted more fans than trolls and dipshits.

Alright, in a sense I'm getting that your husband will be patient in introducing you to their parents or parents. Even if they have their soul family parents. That's Cool. But I feel that you might change their mind about it. Give them a new perspective on things. I can see them being able to see better the full picture of it. I'm getting like “healing”. Maybe, they don't get along with their parent. I won't go any further than that but I have a feeling that they wanna be patient with you and just take a pause to introduce y'all connection to their parent. But for some of you, I'm getting that they are excited about introducing you to their parent or parents. They feel hella excited. I have a feeling that they like to introduce people to their parents. Who has good energy? That's why they feel like they can do it. With you. I can feel them saying “It's time. It's time” haha 😂 they are all excited!!!

✨ here and I had a whole discussion with my friends about Anakin and me being like “100% would love to handle this guy” and my friend was shocked as she could definitely not see Anakin as a sub. LMAOOOOOO, I love that y'all were debating about it. There are two wolves inside of every person, one wants to get absolutely railed by Anakin Skywalker, the other wants to make him cry. You guys could go back and forth on this debate forever, honestly. I do it every day.

Honestly, soooooo many versions of Anakin exist in my head, but I think the main one exists as this Christian grey type character (HEAR ME OUT, GIVE ME 2 MINUTES OK I SWEAR I CAN EXPLAIN).

Is Christian Grey a complex and well written character? Absolutely not, that entire series is dogshit, but the most interesting thing about him that I took away from those movies, is this admission of feeling like the weakest creature on earth.

mildly off the rails tangent below that I'm hoping no one thinks I'm fucking crazy for saying out loud. But sparkle anon, I think you more than anyone else will at least have a laugh about it so... CW for unhealthy BDSM practice mention, grooming mention, etc.

I was surprise to see that in that second movie, Christian actually admits that he's not a dominant, he's a sadist. NOT even in the BDSM sense of the term, which requires actual training, emotional, physical, and psychological awareness and care, but just a sadist in general. He's a very confused victim of grooming who gets off on hurting people who look like his mother. His first genuine act of emotional vulnerability with Anastasia, the first one that holds any real meaning to him, is getting on his knees and letting her violate a previously stated boundary (touching his chest), which is FUCKED UP but entirely telling of the values that were instilled in him when he was being groomed as a teenager, that love is submission, devotion is submission, and submission is self-destructive, which is horrible and I really empathize with that experience. He turns to this charade of dominance (and extremely unhealthy BDSM practice) as a rejection of his grooming but also as a way of expressing his pent up trauma that he refuses to address in a healthy way. However, when it comes time for him to show Ana who he is, be genuine with her, what does he do? He kneels, palms up, eyes to the floor.

The truth is, if he were able to find submission on his own, he would have a much better internal relationship with his submissive tendencies. (if I'm remembering correctly, I haven't seen the second film in ages)

So, how this connects to Anakin (in the way that I think and write about him) is that he probably sees things in the same way. For his own reasons (i.e. slavery, losing his mother, Palpatine's grooming), Anakin has problems relinquishing control, not just in a sexual sense but in a spiritual one too. He does not feel entirely comfortable giving things up to the will of the force.

So when it comes to you and the power you have over him, it completely tears him up inside to be at someone's mercy and it's something he clearly fights against when he's with you. Like, this isn't necessarily a sexy thought, but I almost picture him hating you sometimes because of it. Yet, how he expresses love for you, in his own fucked up little way, is to let you cross his boundaries and see hints of that submission. He lets you get on top, he lets you pull his hair, he lets you use his body, because he loves you and he loves it, he just can't help but feel conflicted and weak for how good he feels when you use him. So sometimes he fucks you rough with tears in his eyes crying and groaning in your ear about how much he fucking hates you, because his insides feel all twisted the fuck up.

Is this fucked up? probably, but I see it as being pretty aligned with his character.

y'all ever been to a new year's party and met a man as fine confusing as vernon?

You thought everything seemed friendly enough. The lines didn't seem blurred to you, so you stayed on your side. As for Vernon...well, was he ever friends with you?

It started at the beginning of the year, when Seungkwan invited you to his New Year's Day party. (Yes, New Year's Day.)

"Are you sure you want me here?" You whisper in his ear when you enter the apartment. He hurriedly nods, shooing you in so he can shut the door.

"Of course, it's something small." He gestures for you to take off your shoes and the next moment you look up, all you see is his silhouette.

You purse your lips, surveying your surroundings. While there aren't many people here at the moment, you're not quite convinced that it will remain this quiet.

Tracing Seungkwan's steps into the kitchen, you laugh at yourself. Full trays of breakfast and lunch food line the counters with drinks in buckets on a table. He's just getting ready for hungover people to get more drunk. "Like hell this is small," you mutter.

"Well yeah, it's small because our apartment is small. I invited maybe 30 people, maybe 40?" Seungkwan taps his lip while he looks upward. "It's fine."

"You know I only know you, right? Like I don't even know a single one of the other members."

He rolls his eyes. "Easy, you've met Dino once."

"Once!" You exclaim, shutting your mouth as soon as you say it. "Once doesn't count, Seungkwan," you say in a hushed, pointed tone.

"I'll introduce you to some of them and then you'll be fine and I can host."

Before you can say a word, the man is pulling on your arm back into the living room and you have no choice but to follow in his footsteps. "Dino, you've met Y/N before. Hoshi, Vernon - this is Y/N, a friend of mine for a while."

You're not really sure how to greet them, but Dino and Hoshi are quick to go in for hugs. The last of the group extends his hand and you shake it while he says, "Hi, I'm Vernon."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Y/N." There's a pause that feels like forever, and when Dino pipes up to ask how you know Seungkwan, you let out a breath you didn't know you had kept in.

You allow yourself to dive into deep conversation with Dino and Hoshi, only letting yourself connect with Vernon as needed. It isn't that you don't feel safe around him, but his gaze is so attentive and his whole body is faced toward you as the group sits on the couch. Even so, he snacks on things and doesn't really contribute to the conversation so you're not sure what his deal is.

You swipe your clammy hands onto your pant leg a few times throughout the party but otherwise, you're happy to report back to Seungkwan that you actually had a fun time.

When you're slipping your shoes back on, Vernon meets you at the door. "It was nice meeting you today, Y/N."

"Yeah, you too. Uh, even though you were eating half the time."

He rubs the back of his neck. "Sorry, I just eat when I get nervous."

"Oh, why were you nervous?" You readjust your posture to stand and look him in the eye. You're about to say more, but he blurts out his answer.

"I think you're pretty so it only makes sense—wait did I just say that?" He looks just as disoriented as you do, blinking his eyes and opening and closing his mouth.

The only thing you know what to say is, "Wait, what?"

"I mean yeah, I like your energy a lot." He scrambles to say more, "and yeah, I think you're really pretty."

You're not really sure what to say next.

So, maybe being your friend was never in the cards for Vernon, but even if it was, he tossed that deck over his shoulder and never looked back.

"Sorry, that was really out of the blue. I didn't mean to say what I was thinking out loud."

"Um, no, you're fine. I have to go now though, so it was nice meeting you. I'll see you around," you raise a hand to say goodbye, ready to leave the tension behind. "Thanks again, I'll see you," you repeat.

In his heart, Vernon knows he'll regret not asking, so he does it anyway. He presses an arm against the doorway, leaning in toward your escaping figure. "Wait, can I get your number?"

With a smile, you nod and say yes. What's the harm of saying yes to a man who never can be friends with you?

Metaphor Done Right: Childhood's End in KinnPorsche

Full transparency: I have not read this book. But I did major in literature which means I am highly proficient in Making Books Make Sense without reading them. Having said that, if anyone who has read this book calls bullshit on me - that's valid. If you read the book and think this post makes no sense, you're probably right. All I'm saying is I think I could pull off a decent grade in a KinnPorsche Lit Analysis course XD

Like any good metaphor, this one has multiple meanings: a tangible, in-universe meaning, and a broader, meta-meaning - so bear with me; as per usual, I have a lot to say.

The Title

I don't think the title is the only reason this book was chosen, but before we get to that - even if it was the only reason this book was chosen, it has more depth to it than the message it intends to send to the viewers.

Who is reading this book, in-universe? Who chose to read this book in-universe? Vegas.

Right, obviously I didn't need to tell you that, but y'all - we do choose books by their covers, I don't care what anyone says, and we choose them by their titles. I had multiple lectures on cover design and analysis during uni because of this and it was actually fascinating.

I also want to consider what Vegas is trying to get from reading. We might read for pleasure, to learn a new skill, or to learn something about ourselves and the world we live in. I look at Vegas's face here and I think about him asking his abusive father "What am I supposed to do?" and I think he's looking for answers.

The title of the book might be meaningful for us, the viewers, but it had meaning for Vegas and that's a lot more important. Do y'all think Vegas, who has grown up alongside death and amidst abuse his whole life, is morning the loss of his childhood now, in, what, his 20s? I don't. Do y'all think Vegas, who's tortured and killed repeatedly, is a child? Yeah, me neither.

So why this book? Daddy issues again, yep! Gun treats Vegas like a child! He even groups him in with Macau, who is very clearly more childlike in age and demeanor. And here's Vegas thinking he's getting this treatment because he's a failure, looking across the bridge at Kinn who's in the process of taking over for his father. Vegas does one thing of his own volition and his dad says he's ruined everything. He can't come close to being himself. It's insulting and painful for him. We might see the title Childhood's End and think "loss of innocence" but Vegas sees it and probably thinks "freedom." Most 20-something-year-olds with an overbearing parent would, and especially one with and overbearing and abusive parent. I don't think it will give him the answers he was expecting, but I think the book's answer does further the one that Pete ultimately provides.

The Book as a Book

Just real quick - the fact that of all KP characters, we're seeing Vegas read and be associated with books has meaning on its own. This goes back to him needing to look for answers beyond the ones he's been handed by the people in his life - but books can indicate intellect, knowledge, learning. Also, very relevantly, words and their meanings. Vegas reading a book, Vegas reading into Pete's words... They're connected. I also find it interesting that this would indicate, that, even though Vegas doesn't believe in honesty, words are important to him. I mean, if Pete used those double meanings with Porsche - even Kinn, probably - it'd be a lost cause, I think.

The Plot

My quick summary of the book, based off of its Wikipedia page: Aliens decide that humans need supervision. At first they're unobtrusive and seem to be a positive force, leading to great creative feats within the human race. Unsurprisingly, things go sideways and children start losing their identity and merge into a group consciousness - one which is powerful, and dangerous. They're isolated, physically, from everyone else. They eventually lead to the end of the Earth and the end of humanity.

My gut instinct was that Vegas would feel like an alien in the context of a sci-fi book. A victim of child abuse and he's also gay? I mean...

But nope, it's worse than that :) The aliens in this book end up on top, anyway. Vegas feels like a broken human. He's nearing his shattering point, the point of no return, the point of - like the children in the book - losing his whole identity to the demands of his father. Let's break down that summary line by line.

Aliens decide that humans need supervision. Just like Gun constantly supervising his adult son. Ah, Gun, the unnecessary supervision in Vegas's life. The sneaky little bastard that convinced Vegas that Gun was a positive force in his life, and that Vegas was the one fucking things up. Which leads us to the next bit:

At first they're unobtrusive and seem to be a positive force, leading to great creative feats within the human race. At first, it didn't seem so bad - it seemed like Gun was trusting Vegas with things, and Vegas felt pretty powerful kidnapping Porsche and having (seemingly) free rein to play his mind games.

Unsurprisingly, things go sideways and children start losing their identity and merge into a group consciousness - one which is powerful, and dangerous. There's a lot here, but Vegas is losing his identity here. He willingly sacrificed his humanity at (probably) a pretty young age, what with all the death and torture, but he'd come to embrace it. But when things go wrong, it's Vegas who's bad, it's his identity that's flawed. The little things that he chose to do of his own volition - even within the rules provided by his father - are to blame for any failures ("Why didn’t you do what I told you? Why did you defy me?").

They're isolated, physically, from everyone else. This one is obvious, right? Isolated from the rest of society, isolated from the main family, isolated from his own family (Macau) at the safe house. Isolated by the experience of growing up in an abusive household (What did he say to Pete? "You've never gone through what I have?" Huh.). Vegas is very much alone.

They eventually lead to the end of the Earth and the end of humanity. This is the direction Vegas is currently headed. Absolute destruction.

And the children in this book end up kind of in-between human and alien. Pretty nicely aligns with Vegas's monstrous human attributes, the way he's scary even within the mafia world, to everyone except his father. I think that's the abuse coming in to play, mentally he's in a very different place than Kinn and his brothers, even though they all grew up in the mafia. It makes Pete, who's had the same parental experience as Vegas and wasn't from the mafia world originally, especially interesting because he blends in so seamlessly.

It's also interesting that the book's plot twists the meaning of the title on its head. "Childhood's End" has multiple meanings: the children are warped to be these alien-humans, so the literal end of the human children and also the end of humanity's supposed utopia. Maybe utopia under alien supervision looks good, and maybe to Vegas (to any kid), having a father to guide him looks good, but both are leading to a stripping of identity that will end very badly.

Thematic Metaphors

Drive to Conquer

The "peaceful alien invasion" very much parallels colonialism and assimilation. I don't know how to read that summary and not get that vibe. Gun isn't trying to take over a country or a culture, but I think there's something there. The drive to conquer is a huge part of their family. In the book, the alien-human children ultimately consume the Earth, and I wonder if they inherited that from the aliens. I don't know if that's a real thing or just something that I'm incorrectly assuming/hoping for. There's something satisfying about that parallel with Gun and Vegas regardless, but if it's an inherited thing in the book it would really be a perfect fit.

Deception

Sparknotes actually gave me this one. You can probably see it already - the aliens deceived the humans into believing they were helping humanity grow; Gun deceived Vegas into believing he was a dad helping his son grow. Deception is a core part of who Vegas is. There's more of it in the book, but you get the point. Super on par with Vegas and his world. Made more interesting with Pete, who wields his honesty as power and intellect when talking to Vegas, but is also very much capable of deception, as we've seen with his duality.

Does the book give Vegas an answer?

Well... he didn't finish it, I assume, but also, I think the cover being knocked off was telling - I took it to mean that Vegas won't find his answer in books, or at least not in this one.

Also, the book ends with the destruction of humanity. He'd know this already, assuming he read the blurb on the inside cover or the back of the book.

But maybe we can say it would give Vegas a partial answer. It would tell him what not to do. The end of humanity in the book seems to be framed as an inconsequential, but net good thing... for the aliens. For Gun, that would be. For Vegas, following his father will only lead to destruction in the worst way possible - loss of identity, and then loss of, well, everything he currently cares about as an individual. Assuming his father's overwhelming power parallels that of the aliens, maybe fighting his father directly also isn't an option. So he needs to find a third option, which - as previously discussed - is provided by Pete.

Kawakami continues to be my stealth fave. When Operation Maidwatch started, I fully planned to skip it entirely because lets be real, the set-up was horrendous. Then I figured that'd be less funny so I decided to try it For The Bit.

So fucking glad I did.

Kawakami is in the hospital after collapsing from overwork. And what do you know but the people blackmailing her show up to say howdy and while she is still in bed ask her when her next payment will be.

btw for the side-quests, I love when Reverie is just like "Gimme a full name. Thanks. The Phantom Thieves will handle it." LISTEN. I DON'T CARE. If Ryuji can walk around singing his self-made Phantom Thieves theme song, then Reverie can be an intimidating weirdo to random people.

As far as the Lovers go, hers is the weakest to me personally. I would rank them Yukari > Rise > Ann. But I think this is because I don't.... understand Ann's life goals. Which may be just my blind spot personally. Ann's dream of becoming a supermodel to inspire people falls kind of flat because I think modeling is an important job and career but I don't.... connect it to like.... inspiration and stuff?

It's so odd it feels like I'm missing something.

But Ann herself, I adore. I would rank her as honestly one of the kindest people in a Persona game, genuinely good-hearted and just seeking a way to harness that.

Yusuke visited like every other day in summer vacation, so I got some premium hangout time and managed to max his Confidant out too.

AND LEMME TELL YOU SOMETHING

YUSUKE SHOULDA BEEN THE FORTUNE. He makes zero fucking sense as the Emperor. There is nothing about him or his arc that lends itself to the Emperor, but BOY HOWDY does his arc spin 'round and 'round like a perfect wheel.

After some more artist's block, Yusuke finally puts together a piece for the exhibition run by that one jerk who wanted to package and sell Yusuke like a brand. He takes first place!

TURNS OUT THAT THE WHOLE BRANDING THING WAS A FUCKING RUSE. The guy truly was invested in Yusuke's success as an artist and came up with the whole branding thing to get Yusuke angry and get his head in the game.

THE WHEEL FUCKING SPINS AND SPINS.

I'm so fucking annoyed that he's the Emperor, I just don't see it, it makes no sense. Better options were WAITING.

TURNS OUT THE GUY HASSLING SOJIRO IS FUTABA'S FUCKING UNCLE

he wants money or he'll file for custody for Futaba (where he'll have an upper hand as he's a blood relative and Sojiro is not)

Futaba actually shows up to bully Sojiro for some food and immediately freaks out at seeing her uncle.

When Wakaba died, Futaba got handed around between her relatives for a while and ended up with severely neglected by her uncle. Then Sojiro stepped in and adopted her.

Like with Kawakami's blackmailers, I want to wreck some havoc on this bastardman.

Sojiro truly is Best Dad, I'm with y'all on this at last. Sojiro, please adopt Reverie. That should be the no-romance end for Reverie, he just gets adopted by the Sakuras.

I FINALLY got my courage high enough to talk to Iwai the fake(?) arms dealer? AND NOW I THINK I'M DOING CRIMES? i mean uh more crimes. additional crimes. like smuggling weapons?

also like. The Solid Snake/Iroquois Pliskin vibes off this guy, he looks and feels like he just got back from the Big Shell and is laying low until Philanthropy is ready to take out another metal gear.

However unluckily for him, he's also my literal favorite card in the Majors, the Hanged Man, the card I am the most particular about, so he's pretty much doomed to disappoint me through no fault of his own. Because I'm the only person who actually Understands the Hanged Man, you see. Just me.

Ok so even though we're going to get more information in like five days I wanted to do a post examining what we know about the world that The Wizard, The Witch, and The Wild One inhabit. So here's some straight from my brain that will undoubtedly contain mistakes/inaccuracies.

The campaign is taking place in the world of Umora. We don't know a ton about the setting as a whole yet.

I believe the gang mentioned studio Ghibli as an inspiration in the launch live stream- and I definetly got that with the machines the citadel as building/their disregard for the natural enviroment/the mention of spirits that exist in Umora (which is what Eursulon seems to be).

With Suvi's preview going first we did get a lot of information about the citadel, and some hints about the geopolitical situation of Umora.

First off, there seems to be at least 3 different countries/nations on Umora. The first, and the one we know the most about, is the empire, which may span several continents as Steal mentions that Suvi is traveling far from Kehmsaraza's shores when she leaves to visit Grandmother Ren.

I don't know about y'all but I'm getting evil empire/at least oppressive nation vibes from the empire. Steel has to warn Suvi that she can't just acquisition a horse outside of the citadel, and of course Suvi's parents seemed to be on a military mission when they left suvi as a kid. Plus just the general vibe of not maintaining the environment/building massive weapons of war.

It seems like the wizards of the citadel have a strong connection to the empire, and they may even be the leadership of the empire itself. Brennan doesn't ever refer to the citadel and the empire as if they are the same thing, so I'm guessing the citadel is a separate entity that is a powerful faction in the empire. Which makes it interesting that Steel is worried about Suvi leaving to the edges of the empire, where agents of the two other nations we know about (the dominion and the protectorate) Seem to operate. I'm guessing that one of these 2 nations are connected to the witches/spirits respectively, but that's just a guess.

It does seem like the wizards are in direct/were in direct conflict with Witches at some point- they may be the empire's main opposition. Steel mentions that many a young wizard underestimates witches due to their humility and serenity, too their detriment. Should be interesting to learn more about them when we see Ame, Erika's witch character.

The citadel itself is fascinating. This society of wizards directly connected to the empire seems like a huge source of it's military might. When we're introduced to the citadel (in a desert of (the wizards) own creation) it seems like there is some kind of magical battle that Suvi's family is teleporting away from. Maybe they're fighting witches? It would make sense for Suvi's family to take her along in their military mission if the citadel was under attack- they have a place to go and also have a chance to take Suvi somewhere safer. After all it does seem like the teleportation seen at the end of the preview isn't very regular, steel has to pull some favors to get the opportunity for Suvi to leave.

We don't know what Suvi's parents were up to when they left her. If I had to guess I'd say that they're heading to a sort of scary-ghibli-esque spirit realm for some reason where Suvi wouldn't be safe, but that's not based on anything.

But back to the citadel. It seems like only wizards are allowed to join/live in the citadel, and that they have to pass some kind of test to do so. It also seems like the citadel has a pretty strict hierarchy. Suvi herself is an apprentice to Silence the arch mage, and her parents were "Provost of the 8th" and "Sage of the Fundament" respectively. Steel says that Suvi's father, the provost, was a tactician- which further reinforces that the wizards are a military power.

The citadel also seems to send out "heroes" to fight in some kind of conflict. I'm not sure if this conflict is an extension of the battles of Suvi's past or if the empire has had frequent clashes with several foes. One of these returning heroes, Silver, is mentioned by suvi- I'm sure we'll meet them in the first episode but they seem like a friend/maybe Suvi's crush.

It is interesting that every wizard we meet has some kind of descriptor name, all beginning with an S. Silence, Stone, Soft, Silver, Steel. Is Suvi also a name like this and I just don't know the meaning? Or is her name different for some reason? Suvi has her name as a kid, but it would make sense for wizards to receive a wizard name upon entrance to the citadel. It could be a cultural thing rather than wizards changing their name when they enter the citadel, but I'm not sure.

Steel is a fascinating character I can't wait to see more of. She survived the mission Suvi's parents died on. And when we see her in the future she is a high ranking member of the citadel, "the sword of the citadel", who can call in some favors for Suvi when she wants too. I wonder if she is an arch mage herself, or serves in a separate role as a military leader. Also she's a bad ass bladesinger I'm pretty sure so looking forward to that. I like steel, but I can totally see her being an antagonist if the empire/the citadel end up being the bad guys. Also I find it interesting that Suvi got to skip some steps in becoming an apprentice, I have a strong hunch that steel used her influence to get Suvi a safe position within the citadel, which may be why the other mages look down on Suvi, besides her youth. I'm sure Suvi is hyper-qualified, but I think we may have a nepo baby in our hands here.

On another note I'm not convinced Suvi's parents are dead. Although Suvi definetly thinks they are are, and she has her father's ring, I could see them (or just her mom) being a prisoner of war later in the series. Or if there is indeed a spirit world, that is a prime location for parents being disappeared.

We don't know much about the shape shifter working with her father and the citadel, but bad vibes all around there. I wonder if he's a spirit like Eursulon or something else entirely.

And then finally we get to the location of the children's adventure. It does seem like our 3 adventurers all met at Grandmother Ren's home at the edge of the empire. I'm guessing that Grandmother Ren is some kind of magic user who takes care of orphans. Steel gives Suvi a book to give her and the arch mages seemed to understand that Ren was important enough for Suvi to be excused to visit. Although this could just be because of Steel's influence/the nature of Ren being Suvi's caretaker and her health condition.

Anyway Suvi's parents trusted Ren to take care of her, and she met Eursulon and Ame there. I wonder if they are all orphans, or if it just wasn't safe for them at home. It seems like the start of the campaign will be Ame, Eursulon and Suvi reuniting as adults at Grandmother Ren's. I think Ren's home is in some kind of magical wood. Just a guess but it would make sense for a children's adventure. Suvi was supposed to be teleported to a nearby town of Silbree, and then she is going to make her way to Grandmother Ren's located in Toma.

Brennan is such a good epic storyteller and I'm so excited that he finally has a long form campaign as his canvas. I can't believe I can extrapolate this much after like 30 true minutes of world building. I'm pretty stoked.
