if you don't care about Palestinians enough to dislike Israel, do you care about Holocaust Survivors?
Did you know 1/3 of Holocaust survivors within the state of Israel live in poverty? Despite the state of Israel receiving billions of dollars worth of funding from external sources, a disgustingly high amount of survivors of the Holocaust barely have enough to make ends meet.
The Israeli state cannot proclaim itself to be the sanctuary of the Jewish people while neglecting the most traumatized and brutalized Jewish people within its borders. The fact the Israeli government has a history of deliberately withholding and pocketing foreign reparations money along with the heirlooms of those murdered during the Holocaust should say enough about why the state must either face radical reform or total replacement and dismantling.
The tale of Holocaust survivor in the last article is absolutely gut-wrenching. How the hell is Israel allowed to get away with this???

can i be honest and say that the idea of danganronpa being a tv show where the tv actors are legit murdered on live television, and thats just that, never made sense to me.
i know we get vagueries of the world being all rotten and fucked up and its not like i deny this! but i think a big corrupt tv company that has a death grip on the worlds attention would want its actors around after the season ends for contracting shit, merch ads, interviews, etc etc etc.
it just makes more sense to me then actually killing off popular characters and basically never being able to do anything w them again bc you fucking killed the actor playing them. VR au just makes so much sense yknow

JEDI SURVIVOR SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT
Does anyone else think that Dagan Gera was wasted in the plot?? They had this high republic jedi come out of the woodwork and wasted him before act 3 with very little screentime (or what felt like very little screentime).
I wish that instead of killing him in the observatory, Cal was able to maybe convince him to stop his post-200-year-nap rage for a minute and help them out, maybe after Bode steals the compass they are able to form a tentative alliance with Dagan and get him to pilot the Mantis through the abyss.
I think Dagan is so interesting in his echoes, and theres definitely more than a few parallels to Cal in his character, so why not give Cal some hope that people can climb their way out of the dark side after fully embracing it. (RIP Cere you were the trendsetter here but you never went full sith like Dagan did).
Also I wanted more of the whole Dagan and Santari pouring their attachment to each other into their obsession with Tanalorr. Maybe Cal and Merrin’s demonstration of a healthy relationship is what gets Dagan to calm the fuck down.

Some thoughts about the end of Jedi Survivor
Adding a cut because it’s long and obviously spoilers
I know the end of this game centered around Cal “embracing the darkness” but I don’t think he’ll fall to it in a third game. He’s not going to become a sith. It would actually be rather disrespectful of his character development so far and to Cere. In both games Cal has repeatedly seen what happens to those people who let the dark side take over. They forget themselves. They lose everything.
“This pain is yours. But it doesn’t define you, and you must not let it consume you.”
Merrin tells this to Kata, but it shows Cal while she’s saying it. This betrayal from Bode, the loss of his master again. It’s his pain, but if I know anything about Cal it’s that he’s a fighter. He’s going to fight through the pain. It’s not going to consume him. Plus he has Merrin and Greez and BD to help guide him back when it gets too hard to navigate the darkness on his own.
Cere’s force ghost tells Cal to “Guide her (Kata) through the darkness” Through it. They can’t avoid it but they also can’t get lost in it. She’s going to need help and so will Cal, but they have support.
Even Yoda knew of the power of the dark side he just didn’t let it control him.
Yes Cal can struggle with it, and he probably will in the third game, everyone struggles with darkness at times, but Cere taught him to overcome those feelings. He helped her overcome it in the first game and he connects to Cere via the force at the end of this game. Cal is a survivor, he’s not going to succumb to the dark side. His friends won’t let that happen. They have his back.
Bode had no one but himself. His daughter was too young to understand what was happening to her father. She lost her mother just as he lost his wife because of the Empire. At the end of the game on Tanalor Bode isn’t even with Kata. Bode might have been a survivor too, but he was alone. Cut off from his daughter and the light as he betrayed his former allies. The Mantis crew stands together. They are not alone.
At the end of the day I’m just saying Cal isn’t going to turn Evil and I certainly don’t think he’ll have to die or need to be killed off. (He’s the main character in a video game where the formula has been main story and then a ton of side quests for after I mean.. come on) Star Wars is about hope and if Cal loses himself completely then that hope is gone. It just doesn’t make sense for his character. Especially when he already worries he’ll become like the people he fights. That he’ll lose himself. Merrin said it best. Cal is stubborn but ambition doesn’t drive him. He genuinely cares about the fate of the galaxy and his friends, but he knows loss and pain are a part of life too. He is a true jedi at his core and in his heart. But most importantly he’s not facing the darkness alone.
I don’t even know if this makes sense, but this game gave me so many feelings and trying to articulate them is hard. So anyways there’s my two cents for now.

one thing that must be said about coriolanus and katniss is that they both share such a snarky inner voice that despite the seriousness of thg saga (especially mockingjay - the last chapters almost reduced me to tears, it was that heavy) it made me chuckle more than a few times
#coryo is such a petty bitch tho sjehdhdh#there are interesting similarities but also very stark differences!#1. they both have an obvious fixation on food and their growth was somewhat stunted by malnutrition#2. they both have a special memory token from one of their (dead) parents and are emotionally distant from the other#3. they're both survivors (katniss even describes snow in mockingjay as 'the consummate survivor') but coryo relies on his charm and cunning#(a lot of what he shows outwardly is a carefully trimmed performance)#while she's a born hunter and also quite smart but not a planner (actually i'd say katniss can be quite impulsive sometimes)#but she's also forced to perform (in completely different circumstances and a life or death situation)#and i think that's one of the reasons snow thinks everything that comes out of her mouth is a lie. he's projecting#the major difference so far is obviously that coryo is such a snob asshole lmao#but... unpopular opinion: he doesn't start as evil incarnate and i don't understand how people could come out of tboas with this take#that's the point! he gets corrupted by his own choice#but the boy he used to be (as much as he was a capitol born and bred elitist not exactly endorsed#with a huge capability for emotional depth and human warmth) would be horrified by a lot of the crimes he committed later in his life#so far he's just an annoying teenager. emotionally stunted and not very sincere but not an evil guy by any means#anyway both his and katniss' sarcasm are a++#val rereads thg#val speaks#val rambles in the tags#txt

The ballad of songbirds and snakes- a tragedy
(I have only started to read the book and will not address it here. I will only be talking about the movie. I will not take Coriolanus‘s inner monologue into account here.)
The hunger games/The ballad of songbirds and snakes is almost the most tragic of the movies to me.
There is something so … heartbreaking and tragic about seeing little Coryo become the Snow we new from the other movies.
It‘s like we are in Tigris shoes.
We watch a little boy grow up. We watch a little boy who had to witness his neighbour eating his maid‘s leg during a war in order to not starve to death.
We see a little boy who is orphaned due to the war.
We watch a little boy grow up.
Grow up to be a monster.
Another thing that is so incredibly tragic is that you know the ending to his story.
You know what he will eventually become.
And still, i think, many of us viewers found ourselves rooting for him at some point.
I was rooting for him. For him and Lucy Gray.
Against all odds i wanted him to find his own happy ending.
The ending was inevitable.
And still i wanted him to choose a different path.
I still believed in his humanity. In his goodness.
As Lucy Grey says: „There is a natural goodness built into us all.“
Almost until the very end of the movie i thought he might be able to choose a different path.
When i watched this movie i saw something unbelievably tragic.
I witnessed how trauma and a destructive society can kill a soul.
I saw a soul decay before my eyes.
I witnessed the moral decay of a human being.
I saw how all the goodness and kindness that was still left in him was erased for good.
How a soul chose to erase itself.
We see a little boy who has to fight to survive.
We see a teenager who fights the evil inside him.
Who tries to not succumb to it.
We see a boy who loses the fight within himself.
And of course all of it is tragic. The games are tragic. Katnis story is tragic. All of it is.
But the most tragic thing for me to witness was to see the goodness and humanity that is built into us all be reduced to nothing but ash.
To witness the death of a soul.
„There is a natural goodness built into us all.
You can either cross that line into evil, or not.
It is our life‘s work to stay on the right side of that line.“ - Lucy Gray Baird
