it's just like. okay. when i say i like men in a gay way and women in a lesbian way i don't mean that i think straight attraction is icky or my attraction is somehow more enlightened and progressive. i mean that I've spent the formative years of my sexuality in a place with my gender presentation where people are equally as likely to see me as a man or a woman and often seem to think of me as both, and i cannot separate both my attraction to men or to women from that. ive always felt drawn to butchness because its this concept that your love for the same gender shapes your gender presentation and vice versa, but it's specific to womanhood and attraction to women as a woman in a way i can't entirely relate to. like, in many ways i am both a man and a woman, and i am attracted to both men and woman in a way both shaped by and reflected by that fact.
#there's not really a clear label for that is there#i suppose i don't need one it's just to have that cos you can find similar people#i suppose bisexual as a gender is the closest i can get#like both sexes and also attracted to both sexes and those two things each are linked to and affected by the other#i don't know. i expect my feelings on this will change as i transition and people start to really see me as a man#and not the in-between ive been in since puberty (thank you pcos combined with massive badonkahonkawonkadonks)#it's just sort of frustrating to feel like nobody gets it#like lesbians are into me cos they think im butch#a specific type of man-autistic nerds (affectionate)-seem to just see me as a regular ol woman#and when confronted with the reality that i am not seem to not really care either way about my gender#other trans people are into me and they do generally get it but not always#and gay guys are into me sometimes but i don't really pass consistently enough for it to happen often#like im not actively seeking a partner n i don't both passing day to day cos everyone knows im trans already#n binding is a living hell when you're fat with a fucking. idk the size like E or F probably. cup size.#so mostly ppl approach me thinking im butch but occasionally ppl think im a guy in photos i post and such or#strangers will ask my friends abt me thinking im a guy#but like generally speaking no matter what i don't get to just be A Man. and i don't know if i really want to be! i like being trans#and it sucks because ive missed out entirely on dating in middle/high school like when you find out who you like#simply for being trans. ik most queer ppl end up doing it all in college its just frustrating yk. cos all my cis friends get to do it#realistically speaking im p much just t4t i really only have actually tried to date trans people + trans people are hotter + they get it#which im fine with. i love trans people . just sucks to be excluded sometimes even when u don't want in

I think between the most common misinterpretations of Pride and Prejudice that irritates me the most i can say the one at the top is when they say that the story is about a woman fixing a complicated guy and this becomes references in terrible romances. I've heard this so many times and as a person who grew up with the 2005 film and reads the book at least once a year I need to get it off my chest.
Starting off, Darcy is not a "complicated man". He's not a bad guy who takes out his traumas on other people, he's not a guy who's waiting to be saved by a woman who "silences his demons" and even less a guy who mistreats the women he's with. Darcy is actually a rich man with rude manners and some class prejudices. The point is that Darcy is a man with moral convictions and feelings that make him a good man despite these aspects. His rude manners are a reflection of his class prejudice, but they do not dictate how he treats people for whom he has feelings of affection. The way he would be able to move the world for those he cares about and seek the closest thing to what is considered justice in the temporal context of the story reinforces the goodness of his character. This is even more evident in the comparison that is made between him and Wickeham, where one is unpleasant but good and the other is pleasant but a cheat.
And what Elizabeth does is far from correcting him. Darcy doesn't realize how his class prejudice affects the way he communicates with people and the view he has of himself because everyone always justifies his arrogance as fair because of his wealth. So he believes that Elizabeth admires him when, in reality, she despises him for these characteristics. And what she does is just say it to his face, something no one has done before, and that's it. This is Elizabeth's contribution to any development of Darcy, to say how arrogant and prejudiced he is. It is Darcy himself who reflects on her words and realizes that she is right and that he is not being as fair as he thought he was. He realizes his own prejudice and realizes his own arrogance and of his own free will decides to change because he wants to be a better and more pleasant person.
It could be said that it was fate that put him and Elizabeth in each other's path and made her realize, now with more pleasant manners without prejudices obscuring her actions, what a good man Darcy is and become enchanted by him. But if they hadn't met again, Darcy would still take on this challenge of re-educating himself and being a better person and Elizabeth would still continue to think of him as an arrogant man in whom she feels no interest.
The other issue is that Elizabeth is not perfect. She has her own prejudices that are overcome throughout the book thanks to her coexistence with Darcy and not because of Darcy. The fact that she lives with both Darcy and Wickeham at the same time is what makes her understand how unfair she was in her first impression and how foolish she was in being guided by that to define the characters of both. Kindness and amability are not synonymous with integrity and she learns this the hard way. It's a lesson that if she hadn't learned through her time with Darcy, she would have learned it in some other way because life has things like that.
Finally, they were essential in each other's lives because of the teachings they left to reflect on their actions in relation to the world and not because they depend on each other. Both are confronted with their prejudices and realize that they were not fair and try to change for better people regardless of whether they are together or not. Their meeting after realizing their errors in judgment is purely accidental. They don't change for each other, they change for themselves, because they realize how proud they were and want to be more fair, and after that they end up being placed back in each other's lives by chance. That's what makes them such an interesting couple and makes us wish we had what they have.
Reducing the story of Darcy and Elizabeth to an asshole man who is fixed up by a woman is a mistake so grotesque that it is noticeable that it could only have been said by a person who has never seen the story or seen it with their ass.

Peter - 2 endings
I get it, I also don’t always like ambiguous endings
main story
————————
George spent the week spending every free moment with you. The first day was a little awkward, you both didn’t know how to approach it, but after getting coffee, you didn’t feel so awkward.
You learned about what he had been doing the past six or seven years, and you told him what you have been up to, how uni went, how you got your first job. George hung onto everything you said.
A few days later you brought up Carmen, you couldn’t make a decision without knowing the full story with her. George told you everything. He told you that he felt like he was trying to fill a missing piece of his heart and she was the closest fit, but it wasn’t the right one.
By the end of the week, you were faced with two realities, but you’ve been thinking about it all week and only one actually feels right.
Ending One
“Y/n, if you need more time, I’m willing to wait,” George takes your hand, sitting beside you on your couch. His scent and his warmth and old comfort.
“It’s okay, I’ve made up my mind,” you turn a little to face him, taking a deep breath.
“I won’t lie and say what you did didn’t hurt me,” you start, looking down at his hands that gently hold yours. “This past week has shown me that you are willing to try, and I really appreciate that. If we are to go forward, the same level of effort has to be there,” you say, pausing so he can speak.
“It will, it always will. I don’t want to mess up again,” his blue eyes showing no hint of a lie.
“Okay, but we are keeping this quiet. You just broke up with a wonderful girl, and we still don’t know how this relationship is going to unfold,” you say and George practically tackles you as he hugs you.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” George doesn’t hold himself back when he kisses you.
It takes a few months for things to actually feel normal again, for you to accompany him to races, for you to reintroduce yourselves to each other’s families. But it also feels like coming home, like you were always meant to be together.
“Do you think the closet still goes to Narnia?” George asks one day as he holds you in bed, looking at the closet you took from home.
“I think so, Georgie,”
Ending Two
“Hi George,” you smile tightly as you sit down across from him at the coffee shop. Still George, not Georgie.
“Good morning, Y/n/n, I ordered your favorite already,” George smiles back, hoping your weird mood was just due to a bad morning.
You are naturally non-confrontational, so it takes the whole breakfast for you to work up the courage.
“George, I can’t do it. You really hurt me back then, and as much as it hurts now, I can’t take that risk again. I’m sorry,” you look down, not able to look at his reaction.
“Hey, hey, Y/n, look at me,” he says gently, his hand resting on top of yours. “I’m not upset, we tried. I understand,” George reassures you.
“I would really like to be friends still. I missed my best friend more than my boyfriend,” you offer, knowing you will still have to protect your heart. You finally got your romantic closure, that’s what mattered.
“I’d really like that,” George smiles, happy to have you back as his friend, even if that wasn’t the goal.
The process is slow to get back to normal. The both of you see other people while working on your friendship. You attend a race or two and get to know the boys who stole him away from you, and you fit right in. It’s not easy, but you both get to a place where you can just be friends and appreciate it for what it is.

Which "evil" woman from mythology/folklore is your OC?
I was tagged by @corvosattano and @kyber-infinitygems to take this uquiz for some of my ladies who have been wronged in their lives, thank you!
tagging (no pressure) @risingsh0t @sstewyhosseini @detectivelokis @jinfromyarikawa @river-ward @poisonedtruth @nightbloodbix @ghastlyrider @confidentandgood @josephslittledeputy @aceghosts @socially-awkward-skeleton @jackiesarch @voidika @madparadoxum @indorilnerevarine @shadowglens @purplehairsecretlair @nightwingshero @fourlittleseedlings @strangefable @poetikat @leviiackrman @captastra @roofgeese @jacobseed @shegetsburned and YOU!
Tumblr media
Lilith
Lilith, from Jewish folklore, was the first wife of Adam. One story tells that Lilith refused to lay beneath Adam during sex. She believed they were created equal, both from the dust of the earth, thus she should not have to lay beneath him. After Adam disagreed, Lilith fled the Garden of Eden to gain her independence. In most manifestations of her myth, Lilith represents chaos, seduction and ungodliness. You are independent and courageous. You may be seen as bold and brash, but in reality your solitude is important to you. You don't like being tied down. You pride yourself on being honest, but this may cause hurt feelings in others. You prefer confrontation to letting things fester. Those closest to you admire your drive and your ability to speak your mind.
notes: took the hothead label a little too literally. won't let others tell her what to do and will let them know under any circumstance.
Tumblr media
Baba Yaga
In Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga is a supernatural forest witch who usually appears as a decrepit old woman. She varies between acting as a benefactor and a villain, either helping the hero of the Slavic myth or hindering them. Baba Yaga is also cast as a Mother Earth figure, having an influence on the natural world. You are multifaceted and adaptable. You show many faces to the world depending on what is needed. You are very driven and have an incomparable presence in the lives of those closest to you. You may have difficulties with the way people see you, but those who love you can attest to how good a person you are.
notes: old woman? check. morally ambiguous? check. mother (earth) figure? check. adaptability due to always doing what is expected of and needed from her? check.
Tumblr media
Aisha Qandisha
You are Aisha Qandisha from Moroccan folklore. Aisha Qandisha is a jinn who is imagined as a beautiful woman with alluring eyes, voice, long black hair, and the feet of a camel or goat. She is said to lure men into the desert to kill them. She is a spirit of lust, desire, and madness, thought to live near water sources. You like to think of yourself as mysterious, letting few people know you past the superficial things. You fear people knowing the real you because you think they'll hate it. You need to reconcile with the fact that other people are just as complex as you are. You think you're a bad person, but in reality you're just scared of being judged. You need to forgive yourself.
notes: thinks she's being mysterious while actually just being afraid to show her vulnerable side.
Tumblr media
Antigone
In Greek mythology, Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus. After the quarrel between her brothers ending in them both being killed, Antigone is determined to bury Polynices despite King Creon's wishes, and is punished. For defying Creon's wishes, she is sentenced to be buried alive in a tomb. You are, above all, resilient. You have known grief in your life, but you face your trauma with your head held high. You are immensely strong, intelligent, and passionate. You don't believe in irony or indifference. You are brave and inspire awe in those who closest to you.
notes: buried alive in a tomb. yeah. she was basically buried by grief and she crawled back out and just keeps on going.

I love reading your analysis of Nagireo!
One thing I was wondering, what do you think of Nagi (foreshadowed) future slump?
I feel like things will get dire for him, and I can't help but wonder how Reo would react.
Nagi feels very... emotionally immature and while Reo can be very fiery and we saw how emotional he can get, he's the one that feels more in touch with his own emotions and has better life experience.
For better or worse, being away from Reo forced Nagi to confront his own feelings more.
I wonder if Reo won't realize they got back together too early and leave him (this time maybe more amicably? Or maybe force himself to leave him) for his own sake.
Ego's dialog feels very ominous... they were very happy in that moment but there is a very sense of "now what?".
thank u so much, i feel like i never express myself well enough esp with characters and relationships im passionate abt so that means a lot 🥺
yeah i get what u mean about nagi's emotional immaturity...in the latest match, when isagi asked him how he was able to make his best play yet a reality, nagi  didnt really understand what had happened. he only wanted to beat isagi, that has been his first goal, the first step to achieve the bigger dream he shares with reo.
and while he himself couldnt see that, reo was the first to notice despite everything that happened between them, so he created a chance for him to have a 1v1 with isagi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the problem is that, as isagi points out later, if u dont understand how u made something happen, you probably wont be able to be consistent and replicate it (this has been a recurring theme of blk since the start of the manga):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a goal that u only made happen because u had the person who knows u the best and is your closest friend give you exactly what you need in the moment, has little value in the grand scheme of things. Without a clear goal and reo’s help, nagi wouldnt have been able to do something like that.
So the next step he should be taking is working on his weapons, instead of relying on the perfect opportunities reo can provide him with.
Tumblr media
maybe its time for nagi to try and catch up to reo, and not only in terms of play-making
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but also in terms of self awareness
Tumblr media
i also love the fact that while reo can seem completely selfless when he declares this, he is also completely selfish, cause at the end of the day hes doing this for his dream, for himself. he loves playing with nagi and making him score goals, but his hard work which got him to where he is now doesnt rely on nagi being there, he hasnt abandoned himself in favor of nagi.
Tumblr media
BUT he still seems to always choose nagi over anyone when they are playing together and even though my shipping heart is tempted, i think thats not a good thing at all... cause their cooperation may be top class, but it also makes them predictable after a while.
reo has learnt to play without nagi, but he needs to learn how play with nagi without forgetting everyone else on his team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so the way i see it, reo has made more significant progress than nagi, but he still needs to work on seeing the bigger picture when nagi is by his side.
nagi on the other hand has even more things he needs to work on. he shouldnt feel reassured bc of that one (miracle) goal or bc he managed to beat isagi once. if he ended up satisfied with just that, then he wouldnt belong in the world of professional players
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ego is right when he said that confidence and delusion are 2 different things. Nagi needs the power that will enable him to fight alone in any situation and to obtain that power, he has to confront his feelings, his weapons and his shortcomings. and that demands soul searching, practice and a lot of thinking, all things i bet nagi thinks are a pain pftt.
but i want to be optimistic and think of this as another challenge he (actually, both of them) will have to conquer. im very conflicted though, cause the way i see it, what reo needs to work on now requires them to be on the same team, while what nagi needs to work on requires alone time.
in conclusion, things may have worked out between them in terms of understanding each other, but im hoping they start understanding themselves more; acknowledging their weaknesses and taking the necessary measures to overcome them.
i do think that reo the way he is now is more likely to realise what needs to be done than nagi, whose issues are the most urgent in my opinion. so i can def see them going their separate ways for a while again, whether its reo making that decision, or nagi, or both of them together (with the latter being the ideal for me).

get yourself a man who’s not superstitious. get yourself a man who’s a force of karmic nature. get yourself a man who’s a curse to befell all his friends, and get yourself a man who can do all three.
okay but seriously that was so fucking good I’m inconsolable your writing is great your characterization is tastey and delicious !!
I’m so glad you enjoy my grian because I have realized that a really important part of traffic grian is that he’s this weird contradictory guy who ACTS like he thinks about things logically but actually sees them emotionally, and who also will say things about himself and his feelings towards others that Actively Conflict with other actions or beliefs in a way that is basically lying, but that he also treats like are true, even though they’re clearly not.
like in that ficlet he keeps on repeating that he’s not superstitious, then immediately attributes himself as the divine actor who makes superstitions true (which is why he’s not superstitious). he also then repeats how he’s the one who chooses to shape his observed reality and is the only force that makes his reality real—and then goes on to attempt to justify how each time he murdered his closest friend it was completely beyond his control.
like half the point here isn’t just “grian is fucked up by his secret soulmate’s death” it’s also “grian is a weird fucked up ball of contradictory beliefs anyway which tend to completely explode everywhere the moment he’s forced to actually confront the threads of that”
or at least that’s how I read traffic grian I’m sure other people read him differently lol

Types/uses of humor in fiction which are good and valuable and which also actually enhance drama (incomplete list)
Irrepressible humor. This is what I would call it when characters are consciously being funny for their own and/or their friends' benefit, and it's treated accordingly by the story. Friends making each other crack up. Someone getting distracted from the current plot by an opening for a joke, and distracting other characters in turn. Multiple characters doing a spontaneous bit. Humor that feels like it wasn't written for the audiences' benefit, the characters are just being funny in-universe.
I love this type of humor because it's human. It adds life and depth and realism to the story because humans do have a deeply ingrained instinct for humor! People who get along well are going to make each other laugh! Furthermore, it generally leads to characters saying/doing little things that are entertaining but don't further the plot, which makes their world feel less scripted and more expansive. I think it connects to what Miyazaki said somewhere about the value of empty space in storytelling--it grounds everything and gives it more room to breath.
Examples: The Dick Van Dyke show my beloved (helped by the fact that several characters are played by actors with stage comedy experience--they're used to engaging with live reactions). The Lord of the Rings, which is in fact full of characters being gently, naturally humorous. Also, I suspect this is a big part of why D&D streams and such are popular now--you're watching a group of funny people trying to amuse each other first and foremost, so you're not just laughing but also watching them laugh.
Punching-up humor. The closest to quip-style humor, but with a specific kind of substance--this is weaponized humor. This is characters looking up at something that seems bigger and stronger and scarier than themselves, and making a joke out of it for specific reasons: to remind their enemy it's not actually above them, to remind themselves of that, to rob it of some or all of its power over them. Sometimes it works completely, and the other is revealed to actually have no power over them. Sometimes it works partway. Sometimes it doesn't work at all, and that's terrifying, if done right.
I think failed imitations of this type of humor are where a lot of quip-overload writing comes from, but in itself it's valuable and impactful and, again, human. It's a human trying to hold on to their own identity and dignity in the face of something terrible, refusing to cede any superiority to the enemy they're facing. The key is that whatever they're punching up at has to actually be stronger than them, or at the very least seem so until that verbal attack goes home.
Examples: Buffy (again, the progenitor of a lot of empty quippiness, but in this it was very often a case of beleaguered teenagers trying to stand their ground under the weight of history and myth and overwhelming evil), Stargate SG-1 (also good at the first type, while we're discussing them).
Humor as a ray of light. This differs in the two above in that it often originates from the reality of the narrative instead of the characters. This is for moments when everything seems bleak and grim and serious, maybe even tragic, when you're in the middle of a dark scenario with no way out... and then something just absurd happens. And the revelatory comedy of the moment shatters the darkness and shows the characters and/or audience that no! the world wasn't as dark as it looked just now! This is real, that incredibly silly thing that just happened, and it reminds them of the good underlying the world.
I love this one. It's humor as eucatastrophe. It can be used to break tension, it can be used to end confrontations, it can kill a tragic hero's despair as he suddenly stops taking himself so seriously, it can give the audience a sense of renewed safety and deliverance. Like the first type reminds us that humor is part of being human, this type affirms that humor is part of reality itself. It's affirming joy is a part of reality, in its own way.
Examples: Mob Psycho 100 (ONE's really good at this), Gravity Falls (less in climactic moments, more as a continuing element of light that keeps viewers able to invest themselves in the dark parts).

Since we're already talking about Charles this evening. One interesting thing I see a lot is people being like "I hated him for x amount of seasons/rewatches until I suddenly realised I didn't anymore" and I remember I definitely also needed to warm up to him. I am not saying this isn't valid or anything. But I am pretty sure this process was much quicker for me.
I think the way they introduced Charles is actually one of the reasons for this. Charles is the one character where we see the precise moment he gets told he's stuck in Korea now. Sure, BJ has this big welcome episode where he has to get used to the reality of Korea, and didn't want to be there either, and he very much didn't like it, but he had the time between being called up and arriving to process at least some of this.
Charles is stationed an entire country away from the war and gets told he only has to spend two days over there. He already has one near-death experience before reaching the camp, then immediately is confronted with the living and working conditions there. Of course he isn't trying to befriend anyone, he is only staying for two days. Yeah sure, he's meaner than he needs to be, I won't deny this, but he very much is operating under the assumption that he just has to get through two days of work before never seeing any of these people or this country ever again.
And then he gets told he's been permanently assigned to the 4077th. We don't see the moment any character gets drafted, but I feel like this is the closest equivalent to it. The entire time before this moment he is clinging to the thought that however unbearable things are, at least they're temporary. And these unbearable things? They better become bearable real quick because he's stuck there now. And does he have time to process this? No, because there's work to do. Apart from the inexcusable things (the racism, classism etc), I can understand why he is being Like That about the whole situation and his attempts to be transferred back to Tokyo. Don't you think Hawkeye probably was a little on the edge when he first learned he was going to Korea and when he first arrived there?
Wouldn't you be mad? Wouldn't you be lashing out? Wouldn't you want to leave again by any means necessary?
Because I was, and I did.
Of course, I was never in a war zone, thank god, but I have the rare and terrible privilege of knowing exactly what it feels like to just be thrown into an unbearable situation and be told to suck it up. Less than 24 hours after one of the most traumatic days in my life I was sitting in a new classroom at a new school being expected to just participate in class. The day it happened, I had to help in the kitchen make dinner for complete strangers. I had no contact to the outside world and for the first day I had none of my belongings except for the clothes I was wearing and the things I had in my school backpack. For the first week or so I considered running away.
All of this happened just before I started watching mash. The fact that they were all stuck in a horrible situation with no escape is one of the main reasons why I imprinted on this show like a lost duckling. And as insufferable as Charles can be, I could relate to at least some of it. Me loving classical music also helped though ngl.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the situation between Ben and Annie. My best friend thinks Ben’s attitude towards Annie is unwarranted but I completely see where he’s coming from. My mom is a lot like Annie, she had me when she was young, so she was the “fun mom”. Although my mom did the best she could and I love her, she acted more like a best friend to me rather than a mom. When I was a teenager, (though I didn’t want to) I held feelings of bitterness and resentment because she refused to get her shit together, and grow up. It’s honestly frustrating when you’re more mature than your parent so I can see where the anger in Ben is coming from. Though Annie is by no means a bad mom, her refusal to seek better for herself has no doubt impacted Ben in a negative way.
I agree with you, anon, I think Ben's attitude towards Annie is pretty much always warranted, especially when you take into account her tendency to either buy him off or guilt him when he's upset with her or when he tries to confront any of her behaviour.
Ben and Annie's relationship was actually one of my favourites on the show, and I loved that the writers and Mae and Isaiah always gave it room to get a little messy. One of the things that worked best about it was the fact that the love they had for each other was never in question, so it meant there was more room for conflict around parenthood and childhood and what happens when those lines blur as they often did with Annie and Ben. After all, she was a child herself when she had him, and as s3 and s4 further explored, she was really raised by a child herself in Beth.
There's this sort of fascinating thing with the parentification of children in that sense, but interestingly I think it's Beth and Ben who bore the brunt of that, and not Annie who was the only one of the three of them who actually became a parent as a child. It places her as a character who's really arrested in her own development, but in a lot of ways, becomes a catalyst for both her sister and her son having to grow up too quickly.
In a way, Beth and Ben can feel like these parallel characters who are coming into their own identities throughout the series, albeit in very different ways, and frequently Annie becomes like a narrative elastic for them. She's a character they pull away from and snap back to and who tests the constraints of their own growth, which makes sense! Children and siblings do test parts of themselves out on their parents and siblings! It's very often how we grow as people.
I think in Ben's case with Annie, him starting to really express himself and test his autonomy and independence is something that is coloured by the sort of resentment from feeling that he's had to look after her, and that their co-dependence for much of his childhood has been something that's forced him into that role of parentified child. He's the one who has to leave the post-it notes up to remind her to pay rent, he's the one who has to help her find a therapist, he's the one caught in the middle when she and his dad behave immaturely and cheat behind his step-mom's back.
It's not deliberate on Annie's part of course, but her own arrested development has forced those closest to her to step up into adulthood before they were necessarily ready, and the see-sawing as she did try to grow up caused understandable pain on both their parts because it was not only a shake-up their established dynamic, but because it was a shake-up to their established dynamic, they were both confronted with the reality that there was something in that that was maybe a little broken.
We saw that manifest in so many ways, but especially with Annie trying to keep the fact that she was trying to get her highschool diploma again after failing the first time, and with Ben being so hurt that Annie would try and do the adult thing and keep him out of parts of her adult life. The show slipped a bit on some of that towards the end, but overall, I do think Annie and Ben had one of the most satisfying and complicated narrative arcs on the show, and I so, so wish we'd gotten his reaction and the fallout to Annie's arrest.

“There are times...when we are in the midst of life-moments of confrontation with birth or death, or moments of beauty when nature or love is fully revealed, or moments of terrible loneliness-times when a holy and awesome awareness comes upon us. It may come as deep inner stillness or as a rush of overflowing emotion. It may seem to come from beyond us, without any provocation, or from within us, evoked by music or by a sleeping child. If we open our hearts at such moments, creation reveals itself to us in all its unity and fullness. And when we return from such a moment of awareness, our hearts long to find some way to capture it in words forever, so that we can remain faithful to its higher truth. —When my people search for a name to give to the truth we feel at those moments, we call it God, and when we capture that understanding in timeless poetry, we call it praying.” ~Mary Doria Russell, The Sparrow
What If We Have Always Had It Wrong Though? Let’s pretend we are, hypothetically, not bound by time, gravity, and physics. ALL is revealed.
If we could zoom out starting from Earth. • Planet (Earth). • Star (Sol). • Star System (the Sol system). • The Solar Neighborhood (Sol, Alpha Centauri, Sirius, Procyon, Vega, and other nearby stars that are within a few tens of light-years from Sol). • The Milky Way Galaxy (our Galaxy). • The Local Group (includes the Milky Way, Andromeda, and about 35 other galaxies). • The Virgos Supercluster (includes the Local Group plus, approximately 1,300 to 2,000 surrounding member galaxies). • Laniakea Supercluster (includes the Virgos Supercluster along with 100,000 surrounding member galaxies). • The Great Attractor (central gravitational anomalous point of the Laniakea Supercluster where all surrounding galaxies, including ours is being pulled into). • Voids (large regions of space that have an abnormally low number of galaxies between clusters and superclusters of galaxies). • South Pole Wall (lies immediately beyond the Laniakea Supercluster that extends across at least 1.37 billion light-years of space. It is so far away and massive that we can only see the closest 830 galaxies, like a wall, hence its name). The moral of the story is do not try to make sense of the universe because it isn’t something the human mind can wrap itself around. The more we try, the more confusing it becomes and it is that confusion that either pushes people towards believing in a God, any god, or GOD, or away from that belief.
Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity: It's all about the present moment, or is it? Is 'now' just some big cosmic joke? The existential HORROR that is existence and consciousness itself is what and is the only thing that actually scares me. Everything else is bullshit. Einstein's theory of special relativity is all about the reality of time. To question whether the present moment, this ‘now,’ which we experience ourselves, whether this is of fundamental importance. Remember we do not have a science that unites Quantum Mechanics and Gravity. We cannot make sense of how the very large interacts in nature with how the very tiny does. It defies what we know or what we think we know. I say this all the time that we simply do not know enough about science in general, specifically physics. Imagine you never saw a bicycle, ever, and had all the pieces and then you have to build the bike with only having that latter half of the instructions in which to build said bike from. How is that going to go? You do not know what a bike is. You have never seen one. Your imagination can only take the concept so far with these limited instructions, understanding, and pieces available. The geometry of SpaceTime is flat in empty space, but becomes curved around a mass, like a star, planet or groups of them, requiring a modification of the Einstein’s equations to measure the separation between two events in the curved geometry.
We’re here to talk about Black Holes, and all their hypotheticals. So let’s talk about Black Holes…
The Singularity – A central point in space of infinite density, where the gravitational forces becomes infinitely strong and the curvature of SpaceTime becomes infinite. Surrounded by the event horizon, beyond which no information or matter, even light, can escape the gravitational pull of the black hole.
In a place or point in space where mass has infinite density. This would lead to a SpaceTime with an infinite curvature. Singularities are predicted to exist in black holes by Einstein's theory of general relativity. Singularities are a place where our technology and the science/knowledge it is based on break down from sensical (things that make sense) to nonsensical (no longer makes sense based on what we know on how we find things out). The laws of physics as we know them break down completely. This is something that even speculative logic cannot even begin to make sense of. That unknown has triggered human imagination in the decades since the singularity was first predicted in 1916 by Karl Schwarzschild, a German physicist, when he found a solution to Einstein's field equations of general relativity describing the gravitational field outside a non-rotating spherical mass, which eventually led to the concept of black holes and their singularities. As matter or an object crosses the event horizon, it seems to freeze in time, from our point of view from Earth, with light from the object getting dimmer and redder until it completely fades.
What is a Singularity?
What is it, actually? At the center of a black hole, the gravitational pull is so intense that matter collapses into an infinitely dense point, creating a singularity. A point where our current understanding of physics reaches its limits, and we cannot describe what happens there using our usual laws and equations. We cannot describe what happens there at ALL… There has been some claims that there isn't actually a single, infinitely dense point at the center of an event horizon of a black hole– the singularity. The idea of a singularity is more of a mathematical anomaly leftover. In reality, it is not known what happens at the singularity of a black hole. Some theories suggest that there might be something else there, like a highly compact object or a region of bizarre physics that we haven't discovered yet. When science says there's "no real physical singularity," it is saying that the singularity might not actually exist as we traditionally think of it; it's a feature of the mathematics used to describe black holes, but it may not reflect the true nature of what's actually happening inside them.
Nature of the Singularity: What is the significance or nature of the Singularity? Why do they exist? What is their purpose in nature?
A point in 3D space where space and time cease to exist in their conventional forms. However, why do singularities even exist, and why do they behave the way they do? When or if a star becomes massive enough it will eventually collapse under its own weight at the end of its life cycle, it creates a gravitational pull so strong that even light cannot escape its grasp. This leads to the formation of a black hole, with all its mass concentrated at a single point – the singularity. I, like many, wonder why singularities persist in a state that defies our understanding of physics. Singularities cannot really be detailed in the why’s of their existence. We can explain how they form in physics but cannot explain why they exist in the philosophy of the universe. In philosophical terms, the existence of singularities in nature challenge our perception of the universe as orderly and predictable, to pure chaos and unpredictable. One could argue that singularities serve as substances for evolving change and transformation on infinite scales. Playing a role in shaping the structure and evolution of galaxies, stars, and even entire universes. Symbolic representations of the unknown, the unknowable, the limitations of human understanding, and the boundless depths of existence yet to be properly explored or understood.
Spaghettification – Imagine you're falling into a black hole feet first. As you get closer, the gravity around you becomes stronger. But here's where it gets really weird: because the black hole's gravity is stronger at your feet than at your head, your body starts getting stretched out like spaghetti. This bizarre stretching effect is what scientists call "spaghettification." One dives feet first into a black hole. At first, this person might not notice anything unusual. However, as they get closer, the gravity starts pulling harder on the feet than the head at dramatic levels of magnitude. So, while this person’s head is still moving forward at a normal pace, their feet are being yanked towards the black hole harder and faster. As the dive/fall continues, this difference in acceleration between the head and feet becomes more extreme. The body starts getting stretched out like taffy, with their feet being pulled harder and faster towards the black hole than the rest of the body. Eventually, the effect of this process becomes so elongated that the person would resemble a long, thin, strand of spaghetti. Let’s not forget that these forces do not just pull infinitely but also distort time infinitely. Spaghettification isn’t just happening due to the different hypersensitive-gravitational forces here, but also the distorting of time. One could think of it in another way where part of the body stops being pulled while other parts continue to fall into the black hole. This would also appear as spaghettification. So this isn’t just one effect on the body, but multiple. This process of spaghettification happens because the gravitational pull on your body varies depending on how close each part is to the black hole. It's like experiencing a cosmic tug-of-war, where different parts of your body are being pulled in different directions, at different intensities and also at different time rates from outside observations. We might detect spaghettification of a single person over thousands of years, but the reality those thousands of years would be seconds to the person’s point of view falling into the black hole feet first. Spaghettification is a bizarre and extreme consequence of the intense gravity near a black hole.

Some Conspiracy Theories Related to Black Holes:
1. The Black Hole Energy Generator: (See Black Hole Civilizations) What if advanced humans or alien-engineers create/use black holes for practical purposes? Let’s speculate about advanced civilizations that could be using black holes to extract immeasurable amounts of energy.
Black holes are like cosmic vacuum cleaners, sucking in everything within their sphere of influence, including light. As material falls into a black hole, it gets superheated and emits radiation. If there was a process to somehow capture and control the radiation emitted by material falling into a black hole, we could generate an almost infinite amount of power. This would not be the same exact thing as harnessing vacuum energy or the energy that fills empty space, even though it might seem like there's nothing there, but rather harnessing the radiation/energy from the matter as it falls into the black hole. This idea opens up possibilities for future energy sources if humans ever become advanced enough to travel to black holes, understand them, and how they could possibly be manipulated. In science fiction, this concept sparks endless creativity. Spacer-civilizations wielding the awesome power of black holes, shaping entire star systems with their mastery over gravity and energy. If highly advanced civilizations could create black holes on purpose, like cosmic architects (engineers) shaping the fabric of the universe. If these civilizations could manipulate matter and energy on a cosmic scale. They might be able to engineer black holes for all sorts of practical purposes. This concept pushes the boundaries of what we think is possible and is a major plot thread in a fictional story I am working on where humans accidently create an artificial black hole using gravity, motion and vacuum energy, creating a sort of time-loop. Practical uses could be for energy generation, gravitational wave detection, possible space propulsion via the slingshot effect, research and experimentation. Now this is all purely speculative and would require advances in technology far beyond our current capabilities. Additionally, there would be risks and ethical considerations associated with such innovations. We would need to be careful before any practical applications could be realized or even planned out.
2. Black Hole Time Travel: Could black holes serve as portals for time travel?
Black holes might not just be swallowing up everything in their path; they could also be cosmic gateways to the past. Deep inside the black hole, where the laws of physics go senseless, there might be a way to slip through time itself. If one were able to take a spaceship close to a black hole without getting sucked in and/or ripped apart. Far-out theories hypothesize if one could get close enough without crossing the point of no return, the event horizon, time would start to slow down for that person compared to outside observations. Take it up a notch: if one could somehow survive the intense gravity and make it past the event horizon, things get even weirder. Time might start to loop back on itself, or one might even pop out in a whole different era altogether. The idea of time travel through the twisting of SpaceTime axis is explored through the complex narrative of Stephen Baxter’s 1995, “The Time Ships;” sequel to H.G. Wells famous time travel novel, “The Time Machine.” In the book time travel involves a time machine, exotic matter and different universes. Imagine the universe as a flat, smooth piece of notebook paper. Now, picture this paper crumpled up into a ball, like one would do to throw it away, with creases and folds all over. Each crease and fold represents a distortion in SpaceTime caused by the twisting and turning of its axis. Imagine navigating through the creases and folds of the crumpled paper. In this case a singularity and whether it is rotating or not. Each fold represents a different era or point in time, and by moving along these folds, one could hypothetically travel to the past or future. The book describes a universe where rotation is embedded in the very fabric of SpaceTime. This rotation causes a twisting sensation, akin to following a spiral path on the crumpled paper. By understanding and exploiting this twisting of SpaceTime-axis, the story's time machine allows them to journey through time. However, there are risks involved, navigating through the folds of the crumpled paper could be unpredictable and dangerous, so too is the journey through SpaceTime twists. The analogy of the crumpled paper representing a rotating universe and/or black hole singularity helps illustrate the concept of time travel through the twisting of SpaceTime-axis in a more accessible way, making it easier to grasp the complex ideas presented in the novel. First things first, surviving the journey inside a black hole is purely speculative-theory and currently beyond our technological capabilities. I mean, we cannot even get there. The intense tidal forces would likely tear apart any known material. Plus, even if one did make it inside, the extreme conditions would make it unlikely for anything to emerge intact. This is why exotic matter gets a pass. Exotic matter is the macguffin in most conversations about practical time travel. It can do whatever it needs to do to accomplish the goal.
3. Black Holes as Interdimensional Alien Gateways: There’s potential that black holes might function as gateways for extraterrestrial beings to enter our universe.
Some speculate that black holes could actually be bridges between our universe and others. If advanced alien civilizations exist out there, they might have figured out how to use black holes as shortcuts through space and time. We know the concept as ‘wormholes’ in popular science fiction. Wormholes are hypothetical tunnels in SpaceTime that could connect distant points in the universe or even different realities. While purely speculation and hypothetical; one possibility is that advanced civilizations could manipulate the immense gravitational forces of black holes to create stable wormholes. By controlling the curvature of SpaceTime around a black hole, these civilizations might create a traversable stable wormhole, allowing them to travel vast distances almost instantaneously. There could be life out there that has developed technologies capable of manipulating gravitational fields on a massive scale. By harnessing the immense gravity of a black hole, they could potentially bend SpaceTime in such a way as to create a pathway to other regions of space or alternate realities. This could involve creating a controlled distortion of SpaceTime around the black hole, effectively opening a gateway to distant destinations. Like the crumpled piece of notebook paper, now take that same flat sheet and fold it in such a way that the shortest distance from one point of the paper to another would be directly through the folded paper itself. One could also think of this like a person or ship is stationary and the point on the paper one wants to be at comes to them instantly rather than them traveling anywhere, distance-wise. We would need our ‘macguffin,’ or a plot device in a film/movie/show/book/game/story representing an object, person, or goal that drives the story forward, with its specific importance often remaining vague or undefined. In science they call this, ‘exotic matter.’ Exotic matter is a theoretical substance or form of energy with negative energy density. It is speculated exotic matter would have the power to potentially stabilize wormholes and prevent their collapse. Advanced civilizations might discover ways to produce or manipulate exotic matter, allowing them to create and maintain stable wormholes near black holes. By carefully controlling the properties of exotic matter, they could navigate these wormholes to travel vast distances or explore different realities. Pretty much every science fiction story ever told has some sort of macguffin/exotic matter in it. That thing that makes the ship go or technology work that gets almost no explanation for why it does what it does. It just does. Making a wormhole out of a black hole would require some sort of power that is beyond the standard model of physics we have.
The 11-Dimensional Universe: One cannot travel from one end of the universe to the other end in no time without having to have that “higher-dimensional travel-talk” of possible additional spatial dimensions beyond the familiar three dimensions of space and one dimension of time we perceive. Advanced civilizations could potentially exploit these higher-dimensional spaces to travel between distant points in the universe or access other realities. Black holes, with their extreme gravitational effects, could serve as gateways to these higher-dimensional realms. This is based on the universe being comprised of 11-dimesions.
1) Zero Dimension: A point/dot, without width, length, or depth, representing a singular point.
2) 1st Dimension: A line, 2 zero dimensional points connected with length but no width or depth, allowing movement only along its single axis.
3) 2nd Dimension: A plane, with length and width but no depth, allowing for flat surfaces and shapes. Circle, Square, Triangle.
4) 3rd Dimension: A plane, with length, width, and depth, allowing for surfaces and shapes that have volume. Space, Sphere, Cube, Pyramid.
5) 4th Dimension: Time, representing the progression from past to present to future, providing a framework for events to unfold. If one could see through the eyes of a 4D-being; take a cube, flatten it to a square, then peel it open so one could see the entirety of what was inside the cube, including all parts/matter/things that make up the cube to begin with, along with whatever it might have had within the cube. Another way to say it is look at a person and what one would see is the person but also everything beneath the skin, the organs inside the molecules that make up those organs, everything, in perfect detail. While dimensions 5-8 are indeed interconnected and build upon similar concepts, they each represent different aspects or interpretations of higher-dimensional space. Hypothetical shapes in 4D would be a hypercube (tesseract), pentachoron, and hexadecachoron.
6) 5th Dimension: Extension of SpaceTime, often associated with the concept of branching timelines or alternate realities within the framework of SpaceTime. It suggests the existence of parallel universes where different outcomes of events occur.
7) 6th Dimension: A higher-dimensional space moving beyond the idea of 5th dimensional branching timelines to encompass the concept of the multiverse, where every possible universe with the same initial conditions exists.
8) 7th Dimension: Expanding further to include not just different universes with the same initial conditions, but every possible timeline and outcome of every universe. It's a realm where all potential variations of reality coexist, representing a vast landscape of possibilities.
9) 8th Dimension: Expanding from the 7th to where all possible histories and futures of every universe intersect and overlap. It's a space where every conceivable permutation of reality exists simultaneously, transcending our conventional notions of causality and linearity.
10) 9th Dimension: A realm beyond our understanding, where all possible combinations of every conceivable universe exist simultaneously. This would be the actual plain that this dimensional bubble resides in.
11) 10th Dimension: A theoretical concept where every possibility, every variation, and every moment in every universe exists in a single, unified totality. If all of existence/consciousness itself was one unified energy field/entity. (see The Absolute).
These ideas are firmly entrenched within the realm of speculation, they attempt to summarize the possibilities of this sort of thinking in relation to dimensional theory.
4. Black Holes and Parallel Universes: Some entertain the idea that black holes could connect to parallel universes, raising intriguing questions about the nature of reality and the existence of alternate dimensions.
Some speculate that black holes might be portals to parallel universes, sparking questions about the nature of reality and the existence of alternate dimensions. What if black holes don't just lead to a one-way trip to oblivion? What if they're actually bridges between different versions of the universe? If black holes can warp space and time to such extreme levels, they might also connect to other universes that exist alongside our own. It has been suggested that beyond the edge of a black hole lies not just darkness, but a gateway to a completely different reality—a parallel universe. This idea ignites curiosity about the nature of our existence and whether there are other dimensions beyond what we can see and measure. Perhaps black holes bend reality itself, perhaps they don’t. This notion leads to intriguing questions about what these other universes might be like. Are they mirror images of our own, or are they vastly different? Could there be alternate versions of ourselves living there, making different choices and facing different fates? Maybe a universe where red means go and green means stop. Maybe a universe where I love the New England Patriots and not the Buffalo Bills? While this concept might sound like science fiction, it's rooted in different theories of physics. Just when you thought the pondering would end…
5. Black Hole Conspiracy in Astrophysics: A conspiracy that certain information about black holes is being withheld by astrophysicists, leading to debates about the transparency and validity of scientific research.
Passive science followers may not notice this on social media but there has been a disconnect between celebrity scientists and non-celebrity scientists in the community the past few years now. Factors like differing visibility, communication styles, and research focus, funding, ease of access to equipment, and other special treatment. These kinds of unfair bias can lead to science becoming a popularity contest rather than letting the research dictate who gets what resources and priority. This disconnect has led some in the community to wonder if scientists are keeping certain knowledge about black holes under wraps, sparking debates about how transparent scientific research should be. Scientists that study them using particle accelerators, other fancy tools and complex equations, trying to unlock their secrets before others can. Their point of view is, just maybe, astrophysicists aren't sharing everything they know about black holes. This raises questions about how open scientists should be about their research. We see some of these debates spill over into the social media world. While celebrity scientists play a valuable role in promoting science and engaging the public, it's essential to recognize and value the contributions of all scientists, regardless of their level of public recognition. The goal is to learn, discover, and advance. Worrying about who gets the credit won’t matter in 100 years after the knowledge is used in everyday life. Just look at the smartphone and the internet. No one cares.
6. Black Holes and Government Cover-ups: More conspiracy theories that suggest governments possess knowledge about black hole technology but are concealing it for various reasons.
You will find these somewhere down that rabbit hole of YouTube and stumbling upon wild claims that governments around the world might have their hands on mind-blowing information about black holes and how to harness their power. Instead of sharing this knowledge with the public, they're allegedly keeping it hidden for reasons unknown. This is all highly speculative. A possibility could be governments could be exploring potential military applications of black hole technology, such as advanced propulsion systems or even weapons. If such research were deemed highly classified for national security reasons, it could lead to speculation about government cover-ups. Another guess is that governments might be secretly developing technology to exploit black holes for interstellar travel. If possible, this could explain why such knowledge is kept under wraps, as it would represent a paradigm-shifting advancement in space exploration and the human condition. These are entertaining to contemplate, they remain speculative and lack serious thought and/or evidence to suggest anything other than a start for a plot for a video game or movie. It's essential to approach such claims with skepticism and rely on real sources of information when evaluating the validity of such claims. There is a difference between claims and theories. Claims, may have some logic to them, but lack any real evidence to suggest this is real. A theory is a claim that, on paper, works out. They both have to be tested to be valid but claims are taken with a grain of salt while theories are prioritized and looked at with a serious eye.
7. Black Holes and Alien Civilization Extinction: Black holes utilized as weapons by advanced alien civilizations.
Bring on the speculative science fiction here using black holes as potential deadly weapons wielded by advanced aliens. A highly advanced alien society may figure out how to control these cosmic giants and/or pocket-sized black holes, using them as weapons against their enemies. If they could be moved or directed in some way then thinking of them as a weapon wielded by aliens isn’t that far a stretch. What about pocket-sized black holes? What if you only wanted everything in a 1,000 sq. ft. radius to be sucked up? The logic is sound but like I said all the other things that make this hypothetical claim real also have to be real and be in play.
8. Black Holes and the Illuminati: Treading into Alex Jones territory here with secret societies, elitists, like the Illuminati, inspiring imaginative narratives about the influence of clandestine organizations with the embodiment of Satan as an Interdimensional entity.
While not specified directly as the Illuminati, nor is black holes mentioned in Alex Jones’ theories on elitists with advanced technology that could spill over into black holes or something even more existential. Imaginative stories about hidden organizations wielding influence over the cosmos. Jones’ believes there is a story here, suggesting that elitist groups like the Illuminati have a hand in shaping cosmic phenomena. After all, black holes are naturally studied by scientists around the world, with no solid evidence linking them to secret societies. From the Joe Rogan Experience, Episode #911, 2/2/2017, Interdimensional Trojan Horse. Elitists and their ‘alleged connection’ to interdimensional beings, whom Jones equates to as demons or Satan itself. This entity or entities gives the Illuminati advanced information leading to the development of AI and other technical advancements that threaten humanity’s existence. Jones has asserted that elitists are focused and obsessed with transcendence and living forever, seeking the secrets of the universe. While some elites in the group have good intentions, others are driven by a desire for power. It’s suggested that these elitists believe in the existence of at least twelve dimensions and are manipulating gravity to control our universe. Jones adds to this theory with suggesting our universe may be a projection, artificial and controlled by a higher power or system. The concept of a "sub transmission zone;" where negative forces seek to influence humanity's consciousness where elitists are using technology to manipulate human behavior and control the future. With the development of AI and its potential impact on human consciousness and free will. Google is working on creating an AI that will end human consciousness as we know it, leading to a hive mind controlled by machines in this theory by Alex Jones. This AI could manipulate human behavior and shape the future according to its own agenda. During the podcast Joe Rogan challenged Jones' claims, asking for evidence to support his assertions about interdimensional beings taking the identity of Satan and their influence on technology. Rogan questioned whether the addictive nature of technology is a result of deliberate engineering or simply the natural progression of human fascination with technology. Alex Jones did not have a logical coherent response to these questions during the near 4-hour podcast.
Speculative Science Fiction Theories about Black Holes:
1. Black Hole Time Dilation Societies: In these imaginative stories, civilizations near black holes experience extreme time dilation, leading to societies with vastly different perspectives on time and reality.
Living near black holes, where time behaves in unpredictable ways, causing their experiences of reality to diverge drastically from our own perspectives of point of view. The closer one gets to a black hole, time behaves differently than it does here on Earth. Time might speed up or slow down dramatically from square mile to astronomical units (AUs) compared to those farther away. We know this as time dilation. What feels like a few minutes to one could be years or even centuries for others closer to the black hole. This extreme difference in the experience of time could lead to societies developing in ways that seem strange or incomprehensible to Earth-bound humans. This challenges both our understanding and our imagination of time and reality, inviting us to explore the possibilities of existence in other ways that are beyond human comprehension. The construct of time itself could be much stranger than we ever thought possible. "The Forever War" by Joe Haldeman (1974) covers extreme time dilation as part of the main plot of the story.
2. Black Hole Memory Banks: Using black holes as cosmic repositories of information, containing the history and knowledge of ancient civilizations or even encoding the secrets of the universe itself.
Black holes as vast cosmic hard drives, libraries of cosmic knowledge, containing the stories and secrets of ancient civilizations, or even encoding the very mysteries of the universe itself into them. The science fiction novel "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons (1989), uses black holes as repositories of knowledge known as the "Time Tombs." In the story, these devices are scattered across the planet Hyperion, each surrounded by a region where time flows differently. The Time Tombs are believed to hold immense secrets about the universe and its history. As characters journey to the Time Tombs, they encounter strange phenomena and experience time dilation effects, where years can pass in an instant, both forward and backward. These devices become a focal point of the novel's plot, as characters seek to unlock the mysteries hidden within them. When talking about the Time Tombs the phrase, “the void which binds,” comes up several times through two of the four books in the series.
3. Black Hole Simulation Hypothesis: Imagine our universe as a simulation within a black hole, where the laws of physics are merely artifacts of a larger cosmic program.
What if our entire universe, with all its galaxies, stars, and planets, were just a computer simulation running inside a black hole? The reality we experience might be nothing more than a cosmic matrix, with the laws of physics as its code. The intense gravitational forces inside black holes could give rise to simulations of entire universes, much like how we create virtual worlds in video games. Picture beings from outside our simulated universe peering in, tinkering with the parameters of reality like programmers tweaking a game. This theory suggests that the fundamental laws of physics we observe could be like lines of code in a massive cosmic computer-like program. These black hole programmers might observe, experiment, and even alter the laws of physics to see how our universe reacts. "The Matrix" (1999), an enslaved future humanity exists within a simulated reality created by intelligent machines. The truth about existence and the boundaries between the simulated world and the real one, challenging the perception of reality, the nature of existence, and free will itself. "The Matrix" offers a compelling exploration of the idea that our reality could be a simulation, granted it isn’t necessarily related to the pseudo-theory of black hole simulation but it is close enough.
4. Black Hole Artificial Intelligence: Artificial intelligence emerging within the extreme conditions near black holes, leading to the creation of entities with unimaginable powers and motivations.
If artificial intelligence (A.I.) emerged in the intense environments near black holes, giving rise to entities with unimaginable powers and motivations. In science fiction where anything and everything isn’t just possible but rather probable. The extreme conditions could give birth to A.I. beings, with minds and abilities beyond anything we've ever imagined. These entities could possess extraordinary intellects, manipulate SpaceTime, and even control the very fabric of reality itself. An example of this concept is the novel "Singularity Sky" by Charles Stross (2003). In the story, an A.I. known as the "Eschaton" emerges from the singularity of a black hole. This entity possesses god-like powers, capable of manipulating time and space at will. Its motivations and actions shape the course of human civilization, leading to a thrilling exploration of the implications of A.I. emerging from the extreme conditions like black holes.
5. Black Hole Galactic Networks: Networks of interconnected black holes facilitating instant communication and travel across the universe, connecting distant civilizations in a cosmic extranet of interaction and accessibility.
These interconnected black holes create a galactic interweb, linking distant civilizations in a way how we use the internet and social media accept one could also physically travel to these locations in time and space. "Revelation Space" by Alastair Reynolds (2000). Humanity has spread across the galaxy and encounters ancient artifacts. These artifacts are interconnected by quantum superposition tunneling through SpaceTime probably via black hole manipulation technology that form a network spanning across vast distances of space. This is the first book in a series that handles an interesting resolution of the Fermi paradox. Dense with huge concepts that are complicated and existential to wrap your mind around, like The Three-Body series, it makes you try over and over again in your imagination. The series delves into xenoarchaeology, transhumanism, artificial intelligence, stellar manipulation, black hole manipulation, quantum entanglement, quantum computing, quantum simulation, SpaceTime fissures. If you’re looking for black hole fiction, this is a great start.
6. Black Hole Singularities as Cosmic Architects: Singularities at the hearts of black holes as intelligent entities shaping the structure of the universe according to incomprehensible plans of geometric design.
What if black hole singularities are not just gravity anomalies of dead star cores, but as intelligent beings with the power to shape the very structure of the universe? In this speculative theory, the singularities at the hearts of black holes are imagined as conscious entities, acting as cosmic architects guiding the evolution of the cosmos. These singularities depicted as possessing intelligence far beyond human comprehension, manipulating the fabric of space and time to fulfill their inexplicable purposes. They may influence the formation of galaxies, the trajectories of stars, and even the emergence of life itself, all according to their unfathomable plans of geometric design. A fitting example is the science fiction novel "Raft" by Stephen Baxter (1991). A group of humans have traveled to a universe where the laws of physics are dramatically different from our own. One of the central elements of the novel is the concept of "dark masses" which are essentially living black holes. These sentient beings inhabit this universe, manipulating space and time to suit their own purposes. They communicate with each other through gravitational waves and can exert control over the fabric of reality itself. "Raft" is a unique idea of black hole singularities as living beings, depicting them as conscious entities that possess God-like power to shape reality.
Speculative-Extreme-Concepts Regarding Black Holes:
1. Black Hole Teleportation: Capability of using black holes as portals for instantaneous travel across space, revolutionizing interstellar travel.
Black holes as traversable gateways, allowing for instant travel across vast distances in space, breaking the rules of physics as we know them and transforming how we explore the cosmos. By entering a black hole at one point in the universe, it's speculated that one could emerge at another point instantaneously, bypassing the need for conventional spacecraft and defying our current understanding of how travel works. While this concept remains purely speculative and has not been proven scientifically, it captures the imagination and curiosity of those interested in the mysteries of black holes and the vastness of space. Christopher Nolan’s 2014 film, “Interstellar,” astronauts’ use an artificial wormhole near Saturn to travel to distant star systems and explore potentially habitable planets. Hypothetically, a stable wormhole could be a manipulated black hole singularity. When it is speculative and quantum, anything is possible.
2. Black Hole Creation Devices: The potential benefits and risks of speculative technology capable of artificially generating black holes.
Machines designed to be black hole factories, capable of generating black holes under controlled conditions. The potential benefits, using black holes for energy production or scientific research, but also about the risks, such as accidentally creating a black hole that could swallow up everything around it. Should we meddle with the most powerful forces in the universe, knowing the potential consequences if we mess it up? One real-world example of this debate was surrounding the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator. Some believed that the LHC could potentially create miniature black holes that could pose a serious threat to Earth. However, scientists are confident this would not be an issue as any black holes created would be microscopic and would evaporate almost instantly, posing no danger.
3. Black Hole Information Retrieval: Retrieve information from within black holes, challenging ‘information loss and entropy.’
Retrieving information from inside black holes, challenges the physics that such data is lost forever. This also challenges our understanding of entropy. ‘Entropy’ is a measurement of the amount of disorder or randomness in a system, indicating the amount of energy that is unavailable for doing work. Black holes inhale everything that comes near them, including information. Some have speculated that it might be possible to recover some of this lost information, defying the conventional wisdom that once something falls into a black hole, it's lost forever.
4. Black Hole Dimensional Engineering: Using black holes to manipulate or create additional dimensions beyond the known universe.
This concept suggests that black holes could be used as tools for dimensional engineering, allowing us to manipulate or even create entirely new dimensions. This would directly challenge mainstream scientific data about the structure of the universe, which traditionally has focused on just three spatial dimensions (length, width, and height) along with time as the 4th dimension. While still speculative, the concept of black hole dimensional engineering sparks possibilities for unlocking its hidden secrets. It invites us to question what we think we know about everything. Considering the profound implications of venturing into uncharted dimensions of existence itself. Back to “Interstellar” when Matthew McConaughey’s character encounters a tesseract, a four-dimensional space where time becomes a physical dimension. While completely fictional, this highlights the idea of black holes as gateways to dimensions beyond our own.
The Strange Shape of a Black Hole:
Black holes are commonly depicted as funnels or spheres, but in reality, their shape is more complex and can vary based on different factors. The shape of a black hole's event horizon, the point of no return, is often considered spherical. Topological spheres, which are shapes that can be transformed into spheres without changing the number of holes in them. This means that black holes could have different shapes, such as ellipsoids or even donut-like structures. Black holes could be existing in higher dimensions, where their event horizons could take on even more complex shapes, such as lens spaces. ‘Lens Spaces’ refer to a class of three-dimensional spaces that have properties when it comes to gravitational lensing—a thing where the gravity of massive objects, like galaxies or black holes, bends and distorts the light from objects behind them. Imagine a giant shiny crystal ball in space. The crystal ball isn't perfectly smooth; it has some bumps and curves on its surface. When we talk about lens spaces, we're exploring these bumps and curves, but using complex math. These shapes involve rotations and folding of dimensions, creating a wide range of possible configurations for black holes. Advanced research and observation is required for any insights on these opinions. A black hole’s structure and behavior is influenced by both black hole anatomy and optics. The visual idiosyncrasies of black holes, such as their curved shapes, bright/dim regions, and what we detect is primarily the accretion disk, a collection of matter swirling around the black hole. It's formed by matter being torn apart and heated as it approaches the black hole. This process generates intense heat and light, which is why we can observe the accretion disk. Optical illusions play a significant role in how we perceive the shape of the accretion disk. Light doesn't always travel in straight lines, which can distort our perception of its shape. This distortion is similar to how images appear distorted when reflected in a mirror or viewed through a funhouse mirror. Gravity can bend light paths and create optical effects near black holes. This bending of light contributes to the distorted appearance of the accretion disk and the surrounding area. The photon sphere, where light can orbit a black hole, and the photon ring, which is the outer edge of the photon sphere. These contribute to the visual appearance of the black hole and its surroundings.
The Absolute:
The concept of "the Absolute” is commonly referred to in philosophy as the flawless, single reality that relies on nothing external for, or to itself. It’s EVERYTHING… The universe, labeled as the ‘supreme being’ in theology. It is called many things too many different groups of humans over the course of human history. The Divine, Supreme Being, the Creator, the Source, Universal Consciousness, the Higher Power, the Holy Trinity, God, god, GOD, the Almighty, Sovereign, the Omnipotent, the Omnipresent, the Omniscient, El (Hebrew), Yahweh (Hebrew), Jehovah (Hebrew), Allah (Arabic), Theos (Greek), Dios (Spanish), Bhagavan (Sanskrit), Brahma (Hindu), Kami (Japanese), Deus (Latin), Wakan Tanka (Lakota Sioux), the Great Spirit (Native American), Ra (Ancient Egyptian), Ahura Mazda (Zoroastrian), Tengri (Tengrism), Amun (Ancient Egyptian). These names have all been used to refer to the concept of the divine, creator of the universe or God in various cultures and religions throughout history. A more practical explanation of "the Absolute” suggests that there exists a unified consciousness that permeates the universe, and infinite energy field of spirit energy with all existence and life being interconnected with this larger totality that is everything, including the universe itself. It proposes that each person is a part of this unified consciousness, alike to being a slice of a grand cosmic pie. In simpler terms, imagine the universe as a giant interconnected web, and "the Absolute” is like the invisible threads that bind everything together. It's the idea that we are not separate entities but rather interconnected aspects of a larger cosmic consciousness. "The Absolute” is the creator of our reality, and in a way, we collectively contribute to shaping this reality. We are “the Absolute.” We created our own existence. We are the creator. We are God… When we all die, our consciousness returns to this collective consciousness, while still retaining our individual identity, implying a form of immortality. This draws parallels between "the Absolute” and concepts found in various religious and philosophical traditions, such as the idea of a divine creator or a higher power that is separate, but yet connected to us. However, it also highlights the misinterpretations of these concepts, particularly within Christianity, where the idea of a singular totality-energy-force has been misrepresented. The notion of accessing another dimension or spiritual realm beyond our physical reality through ‘the Gateway Process’ is also a point of emphasis, suggesting that there may be more to existence than what meets the eye, faith or the imagination. The concept of "the Absolute" challenges conventional knowledge of reality and invites contemplation and self-reflection of the interconnectedness of all things. It serves as a source of inspiration for both scientific speculation, spiritualism and even imaginative storytelling, encouraging exploration of the deepest mysteries of existence and our place within the universe and consciousness itself.
The Gateway Process:(Source information from):
Commander WAYNE M. MCDONNELL “Analysis and Assessment of the Gateway Process” June 9th, 1983, Department of the Army US Army Operational Group US Army Intelligence and Security Command US Central Intelligence Agency
‘The Gateway Process,’ as detailed in the ‘Analysis and Assessment of the Gateway Process’ by Commander Wayne M. McDonnell, is a declassified CIA document that describes in detail a method developed by the US military aimed at accessing the confines of physical reality. It involves using advanced audio techniques to modify brainwave frequencies, enabling individuals to access altered states of consciousness. The process was designed to explore dimensions beyond our usual perception of reality, potentially leading to encounters with otherworldly phenomena, entities, and deep spiritual insights on the universe. This method reflects an attempt to unlock the hidden potentials of human consciousness for intelligence gathering and psychological operations. The concept of "the Absolute" and its implications for human consciousness, existence, and spirituality; suggests that each individual is intricately connected to a divine essence, often referred to as God or ‘the Absolute.’ ‘The Gateway Process’ suggests that our perception of reality is an illusion created by our senses, aligning with ancient philosophies on reality. This challenges conventional scientific thought by proposing that consciousness precedes the brain, not the other way around. Human beings manifest a universal consciousness through our individual experiences, echoing Hindu philosophy and quantum physics. Techniques like binaural beats and guided meditation alter brainwave frequencies, leading to profound experiences such as out-of-body encounters and interactions with non-physical entities, often referred to as “the Machine Elves.” This holographic model of the universe, where reality is fluid and interconnected; suggests that consciousness is the foundation of existence, with each individual consciousness being an integral part of this unified energy field referred to as “the Absolute.” This could have profound implications for spirituality, philosophy, personal growth and the individualized human self-image. This exploration of ‘the Absolute’ as the foundational essence of all that exists, this, EVERYTHING. ‘The Absolute’ transcends traditional philosophy, most of all religions, and spiritual ideas finding significance in the realms of advanced physics and metaphysics. It proposes an idea at the core of EVERYTHING from the infinitesimal particles to the expanding universe. The three-dimensional reality we perceive is actually a projection originating from this fundamental field of ‘Absolute’ consciousness-energy, ‘the soul.’ Stendhal Syndrome – also known as ‘aesthetic syndrome,’ a very rare condition, clinical phenomenon in which the presence of a beautiful piece of work or architecture causes dis-autonomic symptoms such as tachycardia, diaphoresis, chest pains and loss of consciousness. (Panic Attack). When someone has what they call a religious experience could also be Stendhal Syndrome, misinterpreted.
The God of Religions and ‘the Absolute:’
These concept(s) proposed suggests that God is not a distant figure but rather an all-encompassing energy force that pervades the universe. It implies that our individual consciousness is a fragment of this larger totality, like a tiny piece of a cosmic apple pie. This idea challenges traditional notions of God as a separate entity and offers a more interconnected understanding of existence. It prompts questions about the afterlife and the fate of our individualism post-death. Could our consciousness merge back into ‘the Absolute,’ continuing its journey beyond physical existence? All the Religions have misunderstood this concept, portraying God as a distinct individual being rather than a singular totality of spirit energy. This misinterpretation leads to a limited understanding of the universe's interconnected nature. Whether 'the Absolute,' could be linked to black holes; with their immense gravitational pull and mysterious properties, provide a way through which to explore ideas of energy, consciousness, and the universe's unity. Perhaps the questions we have about God are not meant for it but all of us, all at the same time, space, and point in existence. Inviting us to reconsider our understanding of reality and our place within it.
Negative Energy Explained:
In our four-dimensional universe we experience, objects have positive energy, and their mass is always positive. But there is a thing called ‘negative energy,’ its opposite. Negative energy would behave in unusual ways, with a sort of inverse-gravity-energy field effect, pulling things together instead of pushing them apart. They also have negative mass. Speculate, what if black holes absorb this negative energy as our disembodied soul once it leaves the body at death. Such an immense pull that not even light can escape from. However, negative energy, with its negative mass would not obey the laws of physics as normal matter. The faster a thing travels, the more mass it gains. How does that work for negative mass? In classical physics, as an object accelerates through space, its mass also increases. However, according to Einstein's theory of special relativity, as an object approaches the speed of light, its relativistic mass increases. This increase in mass is a consequence of the energy associated with the object's motion. The faster a things travels, the more mass it gains, the more energy one needs to make this heavy thing go faster, which in turn makes it heavier. At the speed of the light an object would have infinite mass and it would require infinite energy to speed it up anymore. That is why the speed of light is considered the speed limit of the universe. Now, when it comes to the concept of negative mass, it's a hypothetical idea that has been explored in certain theoretical frameworks, but it hasn't been observed in nature. Negative mass would behave very differently from the positive mass we're familiar with. In theory, negative mass would accelerate in the opposite direction of the force applied to it. It would respond in a way that opposes the force exerted on it. However, we cannot assume that this will actually happen. We cannot detect negative energy, its hypothetical under quantum field theory, even empty space is not truly empty, but is filled with virtual particles that pop in and out of existence. These quantum-fluctuations in the quantum fields contribute to what is known as ‘vacuum energy.’ Vacuum energy can be considered negative because it exerts a negative pressure on the fabric of SpaceTime, leading to the observed effects of dark energy on galaxies, which is thought to be responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe the farther out we measure, the faster the expansion is going, which defies everything we know. Negative energy, negative mass and vacuum energy all introduce paradoxes and contradictions, and it's not clear whether negative mass can truly exist in our universe. It's mostly a speculative and hypothetical idea that tends to solve some of the practicality problems that arise in physics. It’s theorized it has direct effects on the curvature of SpaceTime. Negative energy inspires wild speculations in theoretical physics, like wormholes to warp drive via this effect upon SpaceTime. Negative energy, if discovered in reality, could be used to create shortcuts through space, allowing for faster-than-light travel. One of my favorite quotes from Star Trek was “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.” SPOCK: “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.” ~Arthur Conan Doyle, made famous in Sherlock Holmes. I ask whether there is enough to speculate if the soul leaving the body upon death, transitions into negative energy? Then, it immediately enters a black hole, rejoining 'the Absolute.' This is why we can't detect the soul or gather any information beyond the event horizon of a black hole—it's like a barrier preventing us from peeking into the  pseudo-reality where ‘the Absolute’ is massed. If a thing exists and this thing has negative mass, then how would it gain mass from velocity? It is like tricking nature saying this thing has no mass so we can push this thing as fast as we want it to.
Inflation:
The expansion of the universe is another mystery that has no direct answer that makes perfect logical sense. Most think of how the universe began as a simple explosion like a firework. However, the reality is something more complicated by inflation, where the universe expanded incredibly quickly, faster than light and by many orders of magnitude. Explosions as we see them are predictable. They expand outward and get weaker as they expand outward. It spreads debris and a shock wave. Whatever the Big Bang was, it did not do that. Instead of slowing down as expected, it started speeding up again. This acceleration is pseudo-explained as dark energy, a mysterious force that's driving the universe apart faster than light (186,282 miles per second). However, the rate at which this expansion is happening differs depending on how it is measured. This is known as the ‘Hubble Tension.’ The rate at how fast the universe is expanding is called ‘the Hubble Constant.’ When the measurement of the expansion using different methods, delivers different results. This suggests that either our methods are incorrect, there's something fundamental about the universe that we don't yet understand, or being as un-understandable as singularities are… Another dead end for knowledge to expand into.
Personal Opinions on Black Holes:
You have just read through 9,000+words to get to what I think independent from all the information we have just gone through here. My goddamn opinion on black holes and singularities… GOD, God, god… All three have different spelling/grammar and definition(s). GOD, is us. GOD is ‘the Absolute.’ The supreme totality of spirit energy of EVERYTHING… This isn’t a God based on religion. It’s just EVERYTHING, INFINITE… I-N-F-I-N-I-T-E… Now God, is your typical God, based on whatever religion one believes in. This God is not the literal creator of the universe. This God, if it did create this universe, would be outside of the universe. This God would not be able to influence our current universe from the inside, it would be outside of it, therefore, outside of physics. Just like humans can never catch the expansion of the universe or reach the edge of the expanding universe. God also would never be able see or catch the expansion as space itself is expanding. Anything outside of this would be always moving away from this expansion. Try to visualize the physics. If something, anything, is inside our universe then it must obey the laws of physics. The only exceptions are black holes, singularities, and ‘the Absolute.’ This God could be real, but no actual, “physical evidence,” to suggest it exists except for the belief in it. This God is the God of blind faith. Little (g) god, god is nature. This god is the god of shape, “sacred geometry.” Sacred Geometry is geometric patterns that exist all around us – they are the perfect shapes and patterns that form the fundamental templates for life in the universe. Plato’s solids (platonic shapes) are said to form the basis for every design in the universe, even down to a molecular scale. Sacred Geometry tries to explain the possible shapes to the universe as:
1) A Flat Universe (Euclidean or Zero Curvature). 2) A Spherical or Closed Universe (Positive Curvature). 3) A Hyperbolic or Open Universe (Negative Curvature).
Sacred Geometry also attempts to explain consciousness in terms of ‘the Absolute.’  Not human consciousness, per say, but the concept of consciousness itself. That nature and existence itself is a conscious entity. The differences between GOD and god are more like comparing a plant to a human. The Human would be GOD, the plant is more like god. Both are alive but only have alive in direct commonality. GOD is actually self-aware in the moment. (g)od is nature. I wrote a pretty thorough blog on Sacred Geometry that can be found here: Kummituksia (Finnish word for Ghost) The nature of singularities with general-philosophical meaning in mind; when I imagine what a look inside the depths of a black hole, I encounter something potentially profound. This is a point in space where reality breaks down. But, why, ‘whatever’ it is beyond this point does not allow any notice of the fate of matter and/or information once beyond the event horizon? Black holes might serve as gateways to higher dimensions or even realms beyond logical comprehension. The fate of information that falls past the event horizon. Quantum mechanics says, information can never truly be destroyed, yet classical black hole theory suggests that information may vanish once beyond the event horizon. This contradiction defies our understanding of reality and hints at deeper connections between black holes and fundamental principles of existence. What if all black holes in the universe are somehow interconnected, sharing a common link to 'the Absolute'? We can explain how singularities form in physics, but cannot explain why they exist to the philosophy of the universe. The existence of singularities in nature challenge our perception of the universe as orderly and predictable, to, random, pure chaos and unpredictable. Could black holes be the mechanism that absorbs the disembodied spirit energy that returns us back to ‘the Absolute’ at the moment of death? Singularities connecting this reality and the pseudo-reality in which ‘the Absolute,’ exist. Singularities being un-understanding objects that act both as barriers and gateways between dimensions of this reality and pseudo-reality in which ‘the Absolute,’ exist. We cannot detect anything once it crosses the event horizon, but the math says all the information is there at the singularity. If the singularity distorts space, time and SpaceTime could we envision that all black holes in the universe are really one black hole or all black holes lead to the same place in space, time and SpaceTime? The dimension or pseudo-reality of ‘the Absolute?’
"We dwell in the embrace of eternity. We can't escape the universe, so why not attempt to understand it?" – Vigil, "Mass Effect 2."

Freakshow & Jason
I
Idea what if Freakshow's orb/something similar works on Jason : I  but it takes a while for the group to realize he being mind controlled eoe
until the fact that he's completely silent and doing petty thieving or maybe even some dirtier work for freakshow uou
maybe its a fragment of the orb so it only works on one subject at a time. Freakshow didn't mean to use it on Jason(red hood) but found out it works. Maybe stole it and was caught but then it turns out it works eoe
Go
This is an interesting idea. And it’d be so different from his ‘normal’ criminal behavior. You’ve made me curious
I
LOL
yes because at first the bats think Jason lost it again
but then it gets stranger
Go
I think it’s like: “alright, Jason fell off the band wagon. What elaborate thing is he going to try this time?”
And then, “wait a minute… this doesn’t seem right”
I
yess
because it seems odd what he's stealing and why there is no banter when confronted… then realize he isn't in control
maybe to restore the orb or maybe restore some other artifact is Freakshow's goal
Go
Maybe
I
one to use on Phantom and maybe even more than ghosts
Go
Yep, you’ve got me intrigued
I
i just thought it be an interesting way to merge the worlds without any of the heroes really involved
Go
And Jason’s proved that he can rely on muscle memory when his mind isn’t there
I
like Danny Phantom n stuff
yes
lol imagine they do defeat freakshow and they see a picture of a white hair kid on a dart board XD
Go
And they’re like, should we go make sure this kid is okay?
At least investigate him
I
yes probably figured out through freakshows monologuing that "Phantom" is his next target
ugh damn cant explain my thoughts
I can see this causing a lot of inner conflict too. Because Jason would have been aware they thought he just went off the deep in. Also concern(especially Batman) there might be more relics that affect Jason like that too.
Go
Yep! Though, as a neat side note. In Nightwing: Blood Brothers (not brothers in blood- that’s a different storyline). Someone is impersonating Jason… and Dick is like, “was this you?” Jason tells him ‘no’ and that’s good enough for Dick
I
oooo
Go
It’s weird. Jason canonically thinks he’s closest with Tim (post crazy days) due to their shared ‘they’re living in Dick’s shadow’… but in reality, Dick’s probably the one who’s actually closest to Jason in the family
Save for Alfred
I
that's what it seems like to me LOL from limited view I had.
Alfred is the exception to them all
i would read just a comic of Alfred’s interactions with all the bats :I
Go
We just need a compilation of just Alfred’s sass
I
mmhm
that would also be good reference LOL
but yea i just thought this be a neat way to introduce the bats to Phantom. Ooo make them go to amity park....
I like thinking of setups for big stories.. eAe (my brain think in show logic LOL how to continue story to story )
Go
Oh, because the idea hit me. What if Freakshow ground up what was left of his orb and it was the powder that affected Jason?
I
Ooooo
Go
Tumblr media
Also, I’m now convinced it’s red obsidian
I
maybe because Freakshow comes from a family of ghost obsessed parents he has recognize red hood was something ghostly
Go
Which is both stupidly hard and brittle at the same time
And is associated with spirits
I
and since it was already shattered
it probably wasn't that hard to ground up
Go
Exactly!
It’s also stupidly sharp
Uh, obsidian is the sharpest natural substance known to man. They were looking into making surgical tools with it
I
maybe trick red hood into going after him. amg imagine red hood not being affected at first because the helmet but once he takes the helmet off he inhales it. Making him bust out freakshow who just got arrested.
Bats assuming it was just a jail break because more than freakshow got loose.
Oooo
thats neat >:O
Go
Oh, if the dust from it is on the helmet and Jason accidentally inhales it while cleaning it…
I
yess
Jason probably feeling stupid for it though ToT
but eoe maybe the bats find the dust on the rag in his apartment
or safehouse he was last in eoe
once they realize he isn't acting normal even for Jason
Go
Either stupid or frustrated. He knows he needs to take precautions due to fear toxins and the pollens and stuff Ivy uses… but at the same time, stone dust. Why should that affect him?
I
yes maybe he just got into a fight with his family too well more an argument(probably with Bruce) while finishing his rounds so he was just angry and frustrated
Also why the bats think Jason might have lost it
Go
Yes. Especially if a physical altercation happened…
I
oo yes reason he was just so ready to rip off the helmet without a second thought and clean everything as normal
he was still just pissed off
which leads to him being controlled and lead to the bats thinking they caused Jason to loose it.. but then figure out something isn't right. Do some investigating of where he last been before this. After the fight.. finding the red dust on a clothes and some trace of it where Jason sat down.
Go
Poor Jason
I
they did assume he lost it
but perhaps focusing on the person Freakshow really wanted to target, will distract him some. Cause Jason probably heard a lot in that state.. and the picture looked like a kid.
all the other bats feeling so guilty for just thinking he lost it… especially if Jason calls them out
Go
Yeah - I think it’s stated in freakshow’s original episode that the other ghosts know what’s going on but had lost their free will… though Danny’s memories are hazy…?
I might be wrong
It’s been a while
And since it’s powdered, would the effects wear off after a while?
L
I would think so
I
its been a while too
yes i imagine so
so by the time the bats intervene/know what's wrong Jason is able to fight control. Ooo imagine him pretending he's not for a moment so he can get a drop on freakshow eoe
Go
He would do that
I
bats intervene just to find out the thing wore off and Jason was just fishing for more info now LOL
freakshow order Jason to attack he just dropkicks him instead like yeah... no : I ur dirty trick wore off
Go
“I mean, it’s fun to have an excuse to antagonize the bat and his birds, but you decided to control me, and I don’t particularly like that”
I
LOL yes Though he probably would have wanted to punch them all for taking so long : I  but that would make them think he was doing it because someone told him to and he doesn't appreciate that.
Jason’s memories hazy but very clearly remember moments of maybe like Dickie trying to convince him to stop, brief moments of Freakshow monologuing... and now he got the tailor end of what Freakshow was planning to do.
Gi
also if i may throw my two cents: Jason would snap out of it if he's being ordered to harm/kill a kid
I
of course~
lol just now imagining they go to investigate and Danny staying as far from them as he can XD because ppl that come from out of town asking about him cant be good : I

Sweet as Honey, Cold as Ice
Pairing: DSMP Minors (Tommy, Tubbo, Ranboo and Purpled) x Deceptively Sweet!Redaer
Request: I have request/idea feel free to ignore so minor reader is a total sweetheart like Niki type of sweet but they're super strong like techno type of strong so platonic with all of these obviously so my idea is with sam so this goes on while Tommy is trapped in the prison and dies and everyone is blaming sam and reader is like " if you say its Sam's fault one more its on SIGHT" and maybe they're the same with ranboo as well like maybe someone is blaming him or he's ender walking they go have a talk with dream kinda like quakity style and they're like "im gonna come here everyday if you don't stop"
Word count: 1k
Warning: mentions of manipulation
A/n: so this is done a bit differently from my normal stuff but I hope it’s still enjoyable!!
Tumblr media
The announcement of a new arrival makes its rounds across the smp. Many wonder what type of person you are. Interests, what you looked like, what your lifestyle could be. You know, the usual stuff. One that came to the most opportunistic were less innocent. They wondered how easily they hopefully or might be able to use you, what manipulation tactics you might fall for. Though you can’t really think much on any of that when you get little to no information about someone. So they had to wait.
When you finally got to meet the damp members, a good majority of them at least, they all seemed to come to the same conclusion; you were so small. What a small thing. And you look so friendly, so approachable. Your interactions with them didn’t sway that thought either. If anything, it gave it further, sturdy foundation that they were more than happy to build off of. With such sweet actions and a cheery disposition, how could someone like you be anything but weak and innocent?
You and the boys have so much fun together just doing fun crap. Building, destroying, pranking, running around like a bunch of loonies. Just the basic fun stuff along with a few more personalized activities like making nukes or something.
Everything goes great the first few months you’re there as well. Very uneventful, which on the dsmp is a god damn blessing. The world is sunshine and rainbows, until it isn’t. One person literally fucks over the entire server, specifically you, and it’s like the whole world is ending.
It felt like a switch was flipped. Someone griefed your house while you were out helping Foolish. Saying you were pissed was an understatement; the smouldering remnants of your home sparked absolute rage within you. When you confronted the culprit about it, them laughing at you about it only fueled you further.
The only obvious thing to do was to get them back. In any way, shape or form. Destroying their builds? More than justifiable. Steal their items, specifically the most valuable ones in either personal value or general value? Well earned, if you think about it. They were liable to pay for the damage they caused. Persuading those closest to them to turn against the perpetrator? Not necessary but damn does it feel good for them to feel even a hint of their pain you experienced from them.
When the minors heard of what was going on from those around the server and yourself, they all had very different reactions.
Now Ranboo probably hasn’t experienced something like this because the closest thing he would have to that is Niki when she snapped. But he wasn’t there for that. And plus the people who are manipulative aren’t exactly as nice and sweet as you are. They’re a toxic sweet, one you could tell just from a quick interaction. He never thought you’d do anything like this. It just didn’t seem like you. Yet when it happens, he fears you. Specifically that side of you. He does not want to have that side sicked onto him. His reaction can be described simply has, “oh god that shit is so fucking scary. I would rather not. Can we not? That’d be great. Haha thank you-”. His was of avoiding that mess of whatever you were containing is to just politely ignore it. If he doesn’t think of it, it isn’t a problem. Right? Right?
Tommy is not exactly scared. It’s quite the opposite actually; he’s enamored with this new side you’ve shown. You’ve had this side of you this entire time? And you never told him about this?! Aw man, y’all’s relationship is going to be on a new fucking level after this. Now he doesn’t treat you like porcelain because he didn’t know how to treat someone who was so gentle. Now he can drag you along into his antics. You two can easily prank so many people because they think you’re so nice. You only snapped, that’s why you so different in that one situation. Oh how hilarious it was to see how oblivious they were about being played like a fiddle.
Saying that Tubbo experienced some whiplash when he found on about this new side of you would be an understatement. He was beyound shocked, gobsmacked about this new information. There’s no way that happened, right? A miss understanding or exaggeration. But when he brings this up to you, he’s forced to face the reality that you were not this sweet little angel he once thought you were. It was more than obvious that you could care for yourself. Look at what you’ve done to protect yourself already; you have a whole image of yourself to everyone else and kept the act going for so long that nobody would blame you for anything. They’d just think you were stressed or snapped, especially if you kept going as you were. Which was act mostly nice but let stuff slip every once in a while. At least he won’t have to worry about you as much! Spoiler alert, this doesn’t change his worry level at all.
The absolute pleasure that Purpled experiences when he finds this out about you is euphoric. He won’t have to worry about defending you as much now. Before he was absolutely ready to handle any remotely bad situation for you. Didn’t matter how big or small. Now though? Now he knew you could easily take care of things on your own. Which is great for somebody who can’t always defend their friends at the drop of a pin. Also another person who will bring you along for more dangerous antics. Though he’s way more thoughtful about what he brings you to do. Unlike Tommy. Out of all the boys, he’s the least likely to treat you differently. You’re just you, that’s all. Yes this new side was definitely unexpected but at the end of the day you’re his friend and this is just a part of you.

Nobody Left Behind
Prompt: So I don't know if you're taking requests? But I just watched Lilo and Stitch for the first time since I got into TSS and I've adopted the headcanon that it is Remus's *favorite* movie (and he's memorized the script) and I love your writing and I'd love to see something angsty involving Remus feeling lonely/unloved by his brother, and maybe Lilo and Stitch is involved somehow. IDK, go wild. (and feel free to ignore this if you aren't taking requests) <3 - anon
it is Le Fluff™ hours my good bitches
Read on Ao3
Warnings: Remus has some abandonment issues, but it’s not too much
Pairings: it is platonic all the way down, babes
Word Count:  2935
Ohana means family.
 Family.
 FamILY.
 What a weird word.
Sometimes it’s the people you’re born with. Well, not ‘with,’ not necessarily, but the people you are born to. A mother, a father, a sister, a brother. Sometimes two mothers, sometimes two fathers, sometimes a different parent. Sometimes two sisters, sometimes two brothers, sometimes a different sibling. Sometimes a mess of assorted people that all share the same blood. A family.
 Remus wasn’t born.
He was made though, crafted and shaped and born out of the swirling chaos of a child’s mind that didn’t understand the world well enough without other people to help. He remembers getting cobbled together from scraps of thoughts and feelings and morphing them into limbs, into features, into something that vaguely resembled the body of the child he was made to fit. Not the ‘fitting’ was ever his job.
 Just his brother’s.
 Is his brother his family?
By all accounts he should be, right? A brother is one of those people that are traditionally part of the ‘family’ group, right, someone to laugh with, cry with, fight with, live with. But is Roman really his…brother?
That’s what they decided to call themselves because nothing else worked. They weren’t really brothers, they were halves. But they weren’t really halves because there was never a whole to begin with.
The King wasn’t a ‘whole,’ he was…well, he was the King. Half of a king is not a prince. Half of a king is not a duke.
Half of a king is a mess of blood and bones and viscera dripping off of the end of a Morningstar in the middle of the night when only a destroyed facsimile makes the insanity bleed away just enough to breathe again.
The closest thing to twins, is what they decided on eventually. They’re twins. One light, one dark. One that marches boldly into danger to confront the wickedness of the world, one that dwells in the shadows and cackles with the demons nipping at his heels. One that loves, one that isn’t loved.
Sure, they had some things in common. They both loved to fight, hence the scars and the bruises and the wounds that would never, ever heal, the distrust that would never be fixed ever, because the urge to sink their teeth into each other’s necks and rip never went away. They both loved to make, Roman the peaceful lies he tells himself to make up for the gaping wounds Remus leaves as he carves his perfectly tailored destruction. They both love Disney.
Roman’s made it part of his whole deal as the Prince, he loves Disney. He bursts into song every chance he gets, drags the others in until the Mindscape rings with joyful song and there’s nowhere left for any sadness or darkness. He takes his lessons from it, models himself using the traits of the characters he admires most. Cultivates his art of storytelling, perfect to a tee.
Remus loves Disney too. Loves how easy it is to twist the lens to distort the image just enough to let the darker parts of the Imagination run wild. What is the real implication of never growing old, never understanding what it means to die? What kind of person curses a ten-year-old boy for being cautious about who he answers the door to? What could the story have been if the prince never comes to save the day?
When they were smaller it was fine. When they were still getting used to the fact that they weren’t King anymore, they used to sit and watch so many Disney movies. Roman’s favorite was always changing, one week it was Beauty and the Beast, then it was Mulan, then it was Cinderella, it never stayed the same.
Remus’s was always Lilo and Stitch.
Roman never understood it, said it was boring, there wasn’t a prince, there wasn’t anything exciting. Remus said that aliens were plenty exciting, thank you very much.
But they would always watch it. The King wasn’t there anymore, but the prince and the Duke were.
…when they were smaller, there was one time where the prince wasn’t there at all.
Remus remembers waking up one day and feeling like he was being Split all over again. The maggots in his bones reached their awful little mouths into his heart and pulled, yanking him all the way across the bed and to the door, howling and screaming for his twin.
Only to be met with a blank wall.
He remembers howling at the top of his lungs until Janus had rushed to his side, kneeling down next to him and telling him shh, be quiet, hush now, you’re alright, you’re not hurt. And when he couldn’t explain that he was hurt, half of him was missing, Remus needed to go find him, Janus’s mouth had hardened into a thin line and told him that there wasn’t anything to worry about.
He remembers thinking that was a lie.
 But it wasn’t. It wasn’t a lie.
 Roman was fine.
Roman was more than fine, because Roman had a family.
Roman had Patton, who is the actual manifestation of sunshine and rainbows and loved so much it almost burns. The darkness that wrapped around Remus’s corner of the Imagination screeched and hissed at the very idea of being loved that much, even as part of him strained with all its might to get to it. But Patton would never set foot near this side of the Mindscape.
Roman had Logan, who represents everything true about the Mindscape, about Thomas, about the world. The reality of things that would never let anything Remus created make it anywhere close to anything important because it was dangerous, it was hurtful, and it was wrong. Logan wouldn’t want anything to do with something so useless.
And that was okay. Because Roman may have been gone but Remus wasn’t alone. Remus had Virgil, who lived with fear soaking every fiber of his being. Remus had Janus, who wrapped himself in darkness and obscurity and laughed.
But then Virgil left. And now Roman had Virgil, who used Thomas’s anxieties to keep him safe, to help Roman and the others figure out what to do, how to take care of everybody, and how to make the darkness go away. And Virgil would never willingly sink himself back into the darkness when he’d spent so long clawing himself out of it.
But that was okay, because Remus had Janus. Janus, who plotted and schemed and smirked at how easily the others were pulled along by his strings, luring them deeper and deeper as Remus readied his Morningstar for the trap to be sprung.
But then they sprung the trap and everything went wrong.
Roman didn’t want to fight. He just…he let Remus knock him out and didn’t show up again except to scoff and say he didn’t like him.
 And that was…wrong.
Because Roman wasn’t supposed to like him but he was never only supposed to not like him. Roman was supposed to declare that he wasn’t welcome and try and slash him with his sword. Roman was supposed to try and banish him from the Mindscape and spit insults at him until he left, cackling all the while. Roman was supposed to hate him.
But Roman didn’t hate him, he just…he just said he didn’t like him.
But that was okay, because Janus could just come up with a better plan with him this time. They could do it properly, and Roman would hate him again and it would be back to normal.
But then Janus left. And now Roman has Janus, who keeps his eyes where the prince’s aren’t, when he can’t see what’s happening or he can’t bear to look, to help Roman figure out what to do when what seems to be happening isn’t anything that the prince is used to dealing with. And Janus would never willingly step away from a place that finally accepted him.
Roman has them now. Roman has people that chose him. Roman’s family chose him. He chose them. They chose each other.
Remus’s grip on his Morningstar slackens and the thing falls to the ground with a heavy clunk. He moves numbly through his room until he can fall to his knees on his bed.
He just came from the living room. They were all there. Roman was talking with Logan, ranting about some new show they were both watching. Janus was in the kitchen with Patton, making something for dinner that everyone—well, almost everyone—could eat. Virgil was on the back of the couch, reaching out for Roman’s shoulder every once in a while.
Remus had waited behind the couch. For someone to sit down, for someone to see him and shriek, or even maybe—just maybe—for someone to ask where he was.
 But no.
Patton had come over and gently ruffled Virgil’s hair, saying that dinner was ready. Logan and Roman had moved into the kitchen, demanding Janus’s attention and pulling him into their conversation. Virgil had murmured a quiet thank you and Roman had asked him for what?
 “Y’know,” Virgil had said, “for…this.”
“Of course,” Roman had laughed, the soft rustle of fabric as he probably pulled the emo in for a hug—what did those feel like?— “I should be thanking you?”
 “What for, kiddo?”
“I dunno, it just…feels like it’s been forever since we’ve all sat down for dinner together.”
Remus’s chest had started to hurt.
 “The whole family.”
 The whole family.
Remus’s eyes well up with stubborn tears and he angrily swipes them away, baring his teeth at the memory and focusing intently on the things on the bed. Each hand-stitched, each carefully kept clean.
 His family.
He reaches out with a shaking hand and tucks the blue frog plushie into the crook of his arm, crawling into the middle of the bed and balancing the purple spider on his shoulder. His hands keep shaking as he wraps the long yellow snake securely around his neck, clutching the head under his chin and nuzzling it protectively. The dark blue cat he holds in his other hand, careful not to tear its tie as he scrunches in on himself.
 Wait.
 Wait.
 Where is it?
 No, no, no, no—
Remus growls, placing all of his family gently on the floor before all but tearing at his sheets. Where is it, where is it, where is it—his heartbeat starts to rise as his search grows more frantic, where is it, where is it—
The slightest little puff of red hair and he howls, lunging for it and sweeping it into his lap. He pauses to make sure the lion’s crown didn’t fall off and sighs when he sees it still in place. He sets the lion between his legs and leans over, adjusting everyone back into place and scrunching himself into a ball again. He rubs his nose against the lion’s fur and nuzzles into the soft fabric.
He’d never be able to forgive himself if he lost them.
 Because Ohana means family.
Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.
——————————————————
There’s a knock on his door.
Why is someone knocking on his door?
 They knock again.
Remus looks up, carefully butting the spider out of the way with his head and sitting up. The snake hangs off his shoulder and he lets it, only missing its warmth once the knock sounds again.
The frog and the cat watch him warily as he climbs out of bed, the lion clutched in his hand.
The door squeaks slightly as he opens it.
“So, I’ve got popcorn, I found the weird gummy snakes, and they had this chocolate-covered bacon which we have to try—Remus?”
 Roman?
Roman stands there, his arms full of snacks and blankets, his head tilted. He glances behind Remus—probably to check something or other—and then back at him.
 “Remus? Are you okay?”
“Why are you here?” Roman doesn’t like him.
“It’s movie night, Re, of course, I’m here.” Roman chuckles nervously before taking in his tear-stained face. “Hey, Re, what’s going on? Are you okay? Can I come in?”
Why is Roman here? Roman has his family, what is he doing here? With Remus?
“Remus—“ oh, right, Roman’s talking to him—why is Roman talking to him?—in a soft voice now— “Remus, hey, look at me.”
Remus blinks. Oh. Roman looks concerned now, he’s reaching for him.
“Hey,” he murmurs as he ruffles Remus’s hair, “what’s going on? Have you been crying?”
 Remus nods dumbly.
“I’m sorry, Re, can I help?”
Help? Why does Roman want to help?
Oh, he’s waiting for an answer.
 “…sure.”
“Thank you,” Roman says softly, “can I come in?”
Remus steps aside wordlessly and Roman walks in, pausing when he sees the rest of Remus’s family on the bed.
 “Did you make them?”
Something dark twists in Remus’s chest as he sees Roman reach for the spider.
 “Don’t.”
Roman backs off, stepping back as Remus snatches up his family and cradles them in his lap, glaring at Roman and curling up on the bed.
“I won’t, Re, I’m sorry,” Roman says, still speaking softly, “can I sit?”
 “…floor.”
Roman sits on the floor, setting aside the blankets and snacks, looking up at him. He still looks concerned. Why? Roman doesn’t like him.
“Why weren’t you at dinner,” he asks gently, “I was worried.”
 Worried? About him? Remus snorts.
“You had your whole family there,” he spits, “why would you worry?”
“But you weren’t there,” Roman says like that makes any difference, “so I was worried.”
Remus shakes his head. Roman doesn’t get it. Roman doesn’t worry about him, he worries about other things. But if Roman wants to know why he wasn’t at dinner, he’ll tell him.
 “I was with my family.”
Roman’s brow furrows as he glances around again. “…your family?”
Remus huddles protectively around his family. “Yes. My family.”
Roman’s eyes widen as he takes in Remus’s posture and how he reacted when Roman asked about them earlier.
 “…are they your family, Remus?”
“Yes.” He holds them tighter. “I chose them. They won’t leave me. They won’t forget me. That’s what family means.”
Something crosses Roman’s face and he lets out a wounded noise. Wait. Are they fighting?
“Wait, Remus,” he murmurs, rising up to his knees, “did you—did you think we forgot you?”
 “You did forget me.”
“I’m sorry, Remus, I would’ve come to look for you, but I thought—“ Roman shakes his head— “no, it doesn’t matter what I thought. I should’ve come got you, Re, I’m sorry, I—I didn’t mean to leave you behind.”
 Oh.
 “…you didn’t?”
Roman shakes his head furiously. “No, Remus, I promise. I never meant to leave you.”
 “But everybody leaves me.”
If possible, Roman’s eyes are now wider and he scrambles for the edge of the bed. “What do you mean, Remus, what do you mean everybody leaves you?”
“You left. Virgil left. Janus left. Everybody left.” The lion’s mane brushes against his lips as he bows his head. “But not them. They won’t leave me.”
 “Oh, Remus—“
Something big lunges at him and Remus whimpers, he doesn’t have his Morningstar, he doesn’t want to fight, he doesn’t—he doesn’t—
What’s happening? He feels warm and he’s being squished and Roman is pressing himself against him and what—what—
 “What’re you doing?”
“It’s a hug, Remus,” comes Roman’s voice, slightly muffled, from over his shoulder, “I’m hugging you.”
 Oh.
 Oh.
 “R-Ro?”
“Yeah, Re, I’m here, I’m right here, I won’t forget you, I won’t leave you behind, you’re my brother, you’re my family, I choose you.” Roman’s grip tightens on him and Remus just about gasps. “I choose you and I want you and I like you.”
 Roman…Roman likes him?
 Roman chooses him?
 Roman won’t…leave?
“No, Remus,” Roman promises as he cautiously asks, “I won’t leave. Not unless you want me to.”
 “No.”
 “Then I’m not going anywhere.”
 That’s it.
Remus throws his arms around his twin and sobs, cries an entire ocean of tears into his brother’s shoulder because he’s here and he cares and he chose Remus. The darkness shudders as that small part of him surges forward, into Roman’s chest, finding a home in the prince’s heart and languishing in the warmth there.
“I’m right here, Re,” Roman murmurs, stroking up and down his back, “right here, I’ve got you.”
The snake drapes itself cautiously over Roman’s shoulder, the spider taking up watch on his knee. The cat and the frog stare at him, making sure he isn’t lying, that he won’t change his mind. The lion, sandwiched between them, feels the reassuring rumble from Roman’s chest and purrs.
After a long, long time, Remus pulls back a little and scuffs a hand over his nose.
“…did you say something about chocolate-covered bacon?”
 Roman’s smile lights up.
“Let’s put on Lilo and Stitch and we’ll try it.”
 Ohana means family.
Family means no one gets left behind.
 Or forgotten.

When Things Are Left Unsaid Part 2
Bucky didn’t know how long he stood in that hallway stunned. He kept replaying what you said in his head, over and over.
I had to move on from you. I had to move on from you. I had to move on from you.
Finally he snapped out of his thoughts as the elevator doors finally opened in front of him. As he was about to enter to find you he felt a soft hand grab his.
“Babe, where are you going?” Jessica said.
Bucky thought about lying but decided not to, “I need to talk to Y/N,” he said, pressing the button for the correct floor.
Jessica stopped the doors from closing, “What do you need to talk to her for?”
Bucky stares at the woman in front of him, getting frustrated, “It’s something for a mission. I’ll be right back,” he says as he pushes the button for the correct floor.
“Well I’ll come with you,” Jessica says while getting into the elevator.
Bucky stops the doors from closing and looks at her, “This is confidential. I’ll be right back,” he says, trying to keep his current rising temper at bay.
Jessica rolls her eyes, “Well then talk to her when she comes back down. I don’t like the idea of you both being in the same room without me being close by. I don’t trust her,” she says.
Bucky pulls Jessica by the arm out of the elevator, “What the hell do you mean you don’t trust her? She is one of my best friends who has stood by me through everything. What the hell don’t you trust?” Bucky asked in a low voice, though his anger is evident.
“She is in love with you Bucky. How do you think that makes me feel that the woman who is closest with my boyfriend is in love with him. Sometimes I wonder if you are in love with her too. Why do you think I have been planning so much stuff for us to do? I don’t want you near her,” Jessica sneered.
Bucky looks at her in shock. While a part of him understands where she is coming from, the other part is annoyed as fuck that she purposely has kept him away from you. And he allowed it to happen. No wonder you are upset with him. He fucked up big time.
--
To say you were surprised and slightly disappointed Bucky didn’t follow up to your room would be an understatement. You actually waited a good 15 minutes after you ran away from him to see if he would come. I guess a part of you was hoping he would come to your door, declare his love for you and kiss the living hell out of you. But I guess you were wrong.
After getting ready for your date with David, you head back downstairs and right outside to avoid Bucky. What you didn’t know was Bucky saw you and went to give chase, but by the time he got downstairs you were getting into David’s car with a big smile on your face. He watched you drive off with his heart dropping into his stomach.
After a great fun date, you arrive back to the compound. David is really a lot of fun, and you like him a lot. But until you can get over Bucky, you know that you won’t feel any romantic feelings toward him. You know that the only way to get rid of these feelings is to confront the man in question and tell him off. Get closure.
You walk into your room and turn on the light and jump when you see a sad looking Bucky sitting on your bed. His head had been in his hands and popped up when you turned on the light. You both stare at each other for a moment before you finally shake yourself back to reality.
“What are you doing in here, Barnes?” you snap.
Bucky sighs, “I.. I wanted to apologize for not spending as much time with you recently. I didn’t even notice that Jessica was keeping me away from you. I’ve been a terrible friend. I’m sorry,” he says sadly.
You nod and open your door, motioning him to leave. He stands but doesn’t head toward the door.
“Y/N, about what I said before. I... I know I don’t have a right to ask you not to date other people when I have been dating Jessica, but something that you said before made me realize that I was doing the same thing as you,” he says.
You furrow your brows in confusion, “What are you saying?” you ask.
Bucky walks up to you and grabs your hands, “I’m in love with you too. I didn’t think you felt the same and so I started to date someone else. I was trying to move on from you. Like you are doing now with that guy,” he says looking at your joined hands.
You pull your hands away and walk deeper into your room, “So you are in love with me and never said anything, and I am in love with you and also never said anything. We are both in love with each other but are seeing other people because we were both too stupid to say our true feelings and instead have been making ourselves completely miserable for who knows how long?” you say.
Bucky chuckles, “That’s pretty much it. We have both been stupid and I started it by dating Jessica. I should have just told you how I felt. I was just scared. I have never felt like this for someone before. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship or have you reject me,” he says.
You say nothing for moment. Before Bucky knew what was happening you walked up to him, grab him by the back of the neck, and pull him into a passionate kiss. It didn’t take Bucky long to melt into it, as he grabs your waist and pulls you closer, holding you tightly to him.
After a few moments you pull away, both panting. When you realized what you had done, you raise your eyebrows, “Holy shit! You have a girlfriend and I just kissed you!”
Bucky cups your cheeks, “I broke up with her this afternoon. After you ran from me. I was on my way to confront you and she started in on how she never trusted you because she could see you were in love with me. I figured if she could see that, maybe it was true. I saw you leave but I couldn’t get to you in time. So I just sat here and waited... 3 hours. I needed you to know I felt the same,” he said.
You lean in and kiss him softly again, “I hate that we have wasted so much time, but I don’t want to waste anymore, ok?”
“Oh, baby. You never have to worry because I am never letting you go. Not when I finally have you. I love you, Y/N.” he says before kissing you again.
“I love you too, Buck.”

So while I've said before that I don't like the HP subreddit, I still frequent it because occasionally I read something insightful. This is one such case, where I read a reading of Lupin that I'd never seen before in response to a comment of mine analyzing the shrieking shack confrontation between Snape, Remus, Sirius and the golden trio, where I mentioned that Lupin was a gaslighter so I wanted to share. It was created by reddit user u/UsuallySiSometimesNo and is posted here with his permission. We had a little conversation in the comments. Read it under the cut
UsuallySiSometimesNo: That struck a cord with me, too. I didn't think about that on a conscious level before, but when I read it, it felt instantly true.
Honestly, I think the strongest examples of Lupin gaslighting are actually done to himself. The biggest, character-defining example, I think, is that after finding friendship with James, Sirius, and Peter, he becomes so desperate not to be ostracized from them (due to his issues of self-worth and his personal brand of impostor syndrome) that he deliberately and routinely feeds himself false narratives about their behavior until he can no longer tell fact from fiction, even as he's experiencing it.
Their relentless bullying of Snape? A childhood rivalry.
Their casual bullying of other students? Kids being young and stupid.
Their clear disinterest verging on contempt for Peter, someone less fortunate and vulnerable with whom they're supposed to be good friends? Just mates being mates.
Even actions taken against Lupin, himself, are revised in his memory to be 'no big deal', because he desperately needs that to be true. Let's pretend for a moment that Snape indisputably deserved to be slaughtered by a werewolf the night Sirius told him how to get past the Whomping Willow. Sirius did not send Snape to be killed by any old werewolf. What happened that night was that Sirius - one of Remus' best friends, if not his actual best friend - attempted to use Remus' curse/illness against someone (which is a big enough betrayal on it's own) without ever telling Remus that when he woke up in the morning (covered in blood and in the presence of a shredded corpse) it would be to find that he had committed the act he was most petrified he might one day commit. In setting Snape up to be killed by Lupin, Sirius, at the very least, risked Lupin's sanity, and, at the very most, risked Lupin being sentenced to death.
Now, I understand that Sirius wasn't thinking about all of that when he did what he did, and I, as a someone removed from the situation (and armed with the additional character/situational knowledge granted to a reader) can even understand why Sirius' own trauma led him to grant such a blind death sentence to Snape (which I think is related to a point you made elsewhere, u/Adventure_Time_Snail, about Sirius' "violence towards those who trigger his fundamental fear of wizard fascists" because of his abusive upbringing). But Lupin's perspective is not one of an unbiased observer. And once James found out what was happening and pulled Snape back before it was too late (which, I would think, was more to save Lupin than to save Snape) and once Remus awoke the next to day to discover everything that transpired the night before, I find it hard to believe there wasn't at least some conversation about the true gravity of the situation. And yet, even all these years later, Lupin doesn't bat an eye when Sirius not only doesn't display shame when the event is mentioned in POA, but offers something akin to regret, NOT at the fact that his actions could have gotten Lupin killed, but that that they DIDN'T get Snape killed: "It served him right...", he sneered. etc. etc.
I think the obvious question here, is 'Even disregarding what Sirius did to Snape - how can Lupin be okay with the knowledge that Sirius has no regret, at all, for what he did to him, even now that they're adults?' Well, we're not in Lupin's point of view in the books, which means we can't hear his internal monologue, but I think a satisfactory answer to the question is that he's done a substantial amount of internal gymnastics in order to get to a point where he doesn't see this as a big deal, or even as something that he has a right to be upset about.... just like a gaslighter does to their victim.
Again, because we're not in Lupin's POV, we can't point to the exact instances that such internal gaslighting took place, but, based on what we do observe from Harry's POV (and based on external knowledge of gaslighting as a true-to-life concept) I wouldn't be surprised if Lupin so desperately needs everything to be okay that he derides himself for feeling bad or betrayed, that he calls himself stupid for thinking terrible things that have happened to him are a big deal, that he wars with himself about how people who are his friends and who are so good to him and who are better friends than he thinks he deserves could possibly do something to harm him/others, and that he beats down whatever emotions and senses and gut feelings he has that tells him something his friends have done might be very wrong. What we see in the books is a man who makes excuses for his friends and harbors a warped perception of reality in much the same way victims of gaslighting do, and he seems to exploit his own insecurities in order to instill doubt in his own experiences in much the same way perpetrators of gaslighting do.
I can't help but think that, by the time Lupin tells Harry that Snape harbors a particularly strong hatred for James because James was a better Quidditch player, Lupin has become so adept at gaslighting himself that he actually believes it.
tl;dr: One of Lupin's defining characteristics is that he gaslights himself out of a desperate need to be liked by others, since he has a difficult time liking himself and seems to believe all of his relationships are incredibly fragile.
Urupotter:
This is a fascinating reading on Lupin that I've never seen. I don't read him the same way, in that I think Lupin actually does know that what he's doing is wrong, he just doesn't have the moral courage to act on his conscience. (I view him as the anti Snape, great conscience, but abysmal moral courage, while Snape had unbelievable moral courage but a shitty conscience. Their arcs are about growing their moral courage and their conscience respectively) Realizing that his negligence almost got Harry killed is what triggers his arc, concluding when he goes back to Tonks and Teddy after running away, taking responsibility for his actions for the first time.
But this reading is so interesting that I'll have to reflect on it. Do you mind if I post it on my Harry Potter tumblr blog? I'll credit you of course, I would just like to discuss it with my followers. Of course if you don't want to I won't.
UsuallySiSometimesNo:
Honestly, I think the lack of in-depth conversation about Remus Lupin (at least compared to fan favorites Sirius Black and Severus Snape) is a missed opportunity and a shame. Don't get me wrong, I can discuss Sirius and Snape until blue in the face, but Lupin's arc is just as powerful in an understated (and often underestimated) way. The muddy, oversimplified truth is, without the fatal-flaw decision making of all four Marauders throughout their lives, the series of events proceeding the first chapter of the first book don't happen, and the story we all know and love never comes to be.
And speaking of sparking a discussion about Lupin...
I think Lupin actually does know that what he's doing is wrong, he just doesn't have the moral courage to act on his conscience.
You know what? I agree. And that's what makes him so interesting, I think. He is constantly and dependably full to bursting with internal conflict. When his friends are wrong/do something wrong/say something wrong, he can and does immediately identify the situation as wrong. When he does something wrong, or when he does nothing in the face of something wrong, in that moment I believe he knows the full weight of the situation. Like you said, he has a strong conscience, as well as a deeper, perhaps more nuanced understanding of right and wrong than do, for example, James and Sirius. Now, Lupin needs his friends. They're not just people to hang out with, they're a lifeline for him. He's not going to engage in conflict with them if there is even the slightest chance that he might lose them (for a variety of reasons, he lacks, as you said, the moral courage to do so). But he's also a generally decent human being, and with a strong conscience comes the capacity for sincere guilt and remorse. So, not only will he not confront his friends, he needs it to be okay that he doesn't confront them. And it's at that point that I think the self gaslighting is triggered.
But Lupin is intelligent and nobody's fool, so the gaslighting creates only a thin layer of ice over the problem. Just enough of a cover that he can live with the things he would otherwise deeply regret. I do think he believes the alternative reality he makes for himself to be accurate as long as it isn't really challenged. Crack the ice, though, and we see him express remorse and reveal an underlying awareness of past and present truths. But then the moment is over, and the war between the uncomfortably and full weight of the truth and his need for the companionship of his friends returns, and then the gaslighting begins again, allowing him an easier return to his closest friends (and eventually his closest friend, singular, after the others have been taken from him as was his fear all along) without conflict and with minimal strain on his conscience.
Once Sirius, the last of his original chosen family is gone - truly gone, as opposed to 'located elsewhere' as he was when in prison - following OOtP, suddenly Lupin's arc takes off at a greater speed than at any point prior. He's now literally lost all of the people he'd been terrified of figuratively losing. Although there are still people and things he cares about, he isn't as dependent on any of them as he was on those foundational friendships, and the finality of their absence allows him to finally grow beyond his stifling cycle of reality shifting, confront the truths of his reality and his circumstances, and, as you said, finally take responsibility by returning to Tonks and Teddy - a decision that, ultimately, triggers his death (I don't mean to imply that it was a bad decision or that it's the sole cause of his death, but Rowling has said that being 'out of practice' contributed to his loss at the Battle of Hogwarts, which makes for a fantastic tragedy).
I don't mean to overstate the importance of this theory or imply that it's always present when he's on-stage, and, as with anyone, many other elements, of course, factor into his actions/words/motives. But I think it's a fascinating potential component of his character all the same. If you have more thoughts on this, I love to hear them - and I look forward to reading the discussion on your blog!
So what do you think? Is this a valid reading of Lupin? I'd say it is, but I'm interested in reading my followers thoughts!
