people don’t talk about the MASTERPIECES called Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard and The Kane Chronicles ENOUGH!!!! Because they’re actually so good!!
mcga reminds me a lot of pjo just because the main characters are pretty alike (Percy and Magnus) and it’s a person who discovers themselves in a new world where they actually belong, unlike the world they’ve been living in. Aside from that, mcga is also unique, especially with the fact that it has more diverse characters (not that pjo and the other series don’t have diverse characters). The relationships between characters are so deep and built-in to the story, which is also like the other series.
tkc on the other hand, is so unique, and none of the other series have really done anything like it. The fact that it’s actually a transcript is pretty interesting. It’s cool how they actually acknowledge that they recorded the story because they have little things like, “[Shut up, Carter]” and at the end of the books, they look at their tape recorder and get ready to tell the story, (they tell this part of the story whilst recording it already lol). The author of the recording’s warnings are also a cool addition to the series because it adds this weird mystery to it. Other than the recording things, Carter and Sadie’s relationship is very clear character development and it’s also complex, where they love the other so much, but also have a sort of resentment for something in the past.
i’m just saying, can we talk about these series more?? I love them so much but i don’t hear about them as much as I should!!!

I just thought of a prompt: In the game Astarion mentions during the first decade of his enslavement he met a sweet man that he didn’t want to bring to Cazador, which led to his year of entombment and giving up on fighting Cazador. What if Tav is a descendent or relative of that sweet man, and he left a journal of how a pale elf saved his life before escaping into the remote countryside. Tav is abducted while on her way to Baldur’s Gate to investigate the journal, and when she meets Astarion she immediately suspects it’s him.
When it’s revealed he’s a vampire spawn Tav is now sure he’s the elf that saved her ancestor/relative’s life.
Oooh, this is interesting, I have made this one a little bit angsty in one section. But I feel like this would change up the dynamic if it was in the game
Astarion x Descendant Tav Headcanons
For most of your life, you grew up living in the countryside, far from the large bustle of the city life in Baldur’s Gate. Despite your family's willingness to distance themselves from the city, it never seemed to deter you. Ever since you were gifted your grandfather’s journals as a child, chronicling his life in the upper city, from the views to that of the variety of dishes they provided, seemed like a dream to a country child like yourself.
Although one section was a mystery to you, that of in-depth descriptions of a pale elf. When you asked your parents, they never wanted to speak much about it, saying when he returned, he looked entirely different, changed by an event that took place there. They would always try to steer your thoughts away from the city if prompted any further.
One day, you decided to leave the small village on a whim to journey to the city, wanting to put an end to the mystery. Travelling along the road to Baldur’s gate to investigate the mystery, is cut early after being abducted by the nautiloid ship, now being set back further from where you started with a tadpole in your head.
However, one face looked familiar among your new travelling friends. A pale elf, one which matched the exaggerated descriptions inside your grandfather’s journal. However seeing him in person said otherwise, matching what was written, ‘Ruby eyes as if looking into a ripe rose’ and ‘Silver lock curls that brushed softly against his ears’. But how could an elf like him look the same after so many decades?
Upon discovering his vampiric nature, explains how he was able to stay young for so long. One night you decide to confront him about your grandfather’s journal, showing him the entries and asking if he knew anything about it. Of course, he would deny not having a clue about what you are talking about
“Why do you insist on exhuming the past? I have no such knowledge of meeting a person like this”
His eyes would dart away from yours wishing to no longer engage in such pointless dribble. Any other mentions of the journal would just leave you with him trying to skirt himself around the topic.
One night though, he approaches you, drunk on, presumably, the blood of a bear, clinging to you refusing to let you go “I’m glad you’re alive still” he’d slur “You were so naive and sweet, to be subjected to such a thing”. When you try to question him about it, he refuses to answer any further, just tightening his grip on you longing to stay in the moment, eventually having to drag him back to his tent for the night.
The next morning, approached his tent to check on him, “I suppose you want to know what I was talking about last night” His body turned away from you to stare at the deep crimson of the tent walls. “You don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to”, he turns to face you “Hmm, well I don’t want to talk about as much as you do, but that won’t do anyone any good”.
He explains how, in his first decade of slavery, he found a sweet naive man, who dreamed of making it big in the upper city of Baldur’s Gate. Compared to most he would find from petty criminals, street drunkards and brothel-goers, he would occasionally find some naive soul who wished to make it big in the city.
One of those was your grandfather, he never tried to charm him, more so befriend him, he warned him to never approach him again and to run far away from this city if he wanted to live.
“He was the first and only one who I ever truly let go” his eye meeting the floor
“And I punished horribly for it” the grip on his shoulders tightening.
An awkward silence fell upon the tent “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pushed you like that to answer”. A light laugh leaves his lips as he turns to look at you, “Ha, you're just as sweet as he was, but…I’m glad he was able to make a life for himself, unlike me”. Slowly you clasped over his shoulder, his eyes staring directly into yours “Don’t speak so short of yourself, I promised you that I’ll keep you safe, just as you did for my grandfather, your actions won’t be in vain”.
Whilst travelling to Baldur’s Gate the two of you bond over the descriptions left in your grandfather’s journal describing the palaces within the city, ‘The Blushing Mermaids signature dish, salted small-fish stew, may be one of the establishment's more unique dishes that they have to offer.’, “We have to try that when we get to the city it sounds amazing”, “Hmm, how about we just avoid the Blushing Mermaid, I know their calamari dishes don’t live up to their praise and that was over 200 years ago.”
Upon reaching Baldur’s Gate, you felt as if you had the biggest culture shock of your life, from the once romantic establishments now being nothing more than an average local tavern and the food they served was nothing but the morning leftovers from last week's catch. Now staring down at the dish through the murky stew a piece of baitfish floating to the surface. “Now darling, it was your choice to go here you should looked more pleased with the dish that dear old grandfather elegantly described to you.” smiling at you with a smug look.
Despite the reality of city life overwhelming your naive outlook on life, one quiet night in elf song, you turn to Astarion, “You know, over 200 years ago, if you didn’t let him go that night, then I would have never met you, funny how things worked out like that”, “I’m glad you think so too, ever since that night, I wonder sometimes if I ever made the right decision, but know I think I do, and I’m thankful to have met you”.

Wanted to make a rec post about a bunch of random sci-fi manga i like and hope that others enjoy as well.
Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction:
A story about 2 young women in their day to day lives as a giant alien ship looms over Tokyo. A fair bit of the story focuses modern social political issues in Japan and the mystery surrounding the mothership and the aliens and why they are there.
The series will get two movie adaptations later this year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dai Dark:
The story mainly revolves zaha sanko and how a legend exist that if one gets ahold of his bones they will have any wish granted to them, and so sanko needs to search through space in order to find whoever put this curse on him and kill them. The manga is made by Q Hayashida and features a very gritty world with very goofy and fun characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Battle Angel Alita/Gunnm:
A story mostly about a cyborg with a sense for battle wanting to fin her origins after crashing on earth. The series has 3 entries so far with the third being on hiatus sadly, the 3 series being Alita battle angel, baa last order and baa mars chronicle. However the series has excellent art a very good story and great action.
It currently has a 1993 anime and a live action movie
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
20th Century Boys
The story revolves around a group of adults who in their youth created a symbol to represent their friendship which is then used by some malevolent character called friend in the future for his own cult and his goal to take over the world. With most of the story being about trying to recall who he may be and how to stop his plot. Its a VERY story and dialogue heavy series, but its all worth it once everything starts clicking.
it has a short sequel series that contains the ending of the actual series called "21st century boys"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pluto
Made by the same person as 20th century boys Naoki urasawa, its an adaptation of "the greatest robot on earth" story with its own unique spin. Its about the ongoing murders of the seven most powerful robots on earth. It deals in a lot of stuff about the sentience of the robots and their rights.
It currently has a full anime adaptation on netflix.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Planetes
A lot of the story mainly focuses on the struggles and relationships of the main characters with space mainly being a backdrop. Its a very interpersonal story and i can't really do it justice by just describing it so i recommend reding or watching it yourself.
It also has a full anime adaptation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
10,000 light year binoculars
This one is just a oneshot but i enjoyed it so much that i really had to rec it. Its about an alien girl with binoculars that allow her to spy on a boy on earth from her own planet and wanting to meet him someday. The entire oneshot is in color, the art is great AND its short.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star tripper: Planetarium Ghost Travel
A very comfy manga that only recently stared to get fantranslated. Its about a guy called 303 going to "ghost planets where most of the inhabitants have gone into a deep sleep and turned into trees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heavenly Delusion/Tengoku Daimakyou
And finally Heavenly, it has two concurrent plotlines with the first one being about a boy and a girl going through a post apocalyptic Japan looking for "new heaven", while the second is about a group a kids in a sterile facility wanting to go explore outside the walls of said facility.
It has an anime that covers the first 5 volumes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And those are all my sci-fi recs for the moment!!! Hope someone finds something new to enjoy of these here. apologies if the writing ain't the best i wrote this at like 3 am.

Air's End-of-Year Youtube Video Rec-List Round-Up
In light of recent events and also because I wanted to, I have put together a rec list of various (mostly longform) videos that I've enjoyed this year. Not all of these videos were released this year, however-- I just happened to see them for the first time in 2023. For readability and quality of life purposes, I have put this list under a readmore and divided the videos up by category, then creator, which means that some youtube channels might appear in multiple categories
I reserve the right to edit this later as I remember more videos, but I feel comfortable publishing it as is, considering it has almost 100 videos on it at this point

Color in Fiction! (Once You See it, You Cannot Unsee it)
White versus black, red versus blue, Gatsby’s green light, Dorothy’s ruby red slippers, Belle’s blue dress.
Color is perhaps the most ubiquitous motif used across both fiction and reality to thread people or objects through a common theme, or to pit two ideologies against each other beyond their verbal spats. Color is also perhaps the simplest motif, but that doesn’t make it any lesser in its potency.
In fiction, color is an easy way for the audience to learn as fast as possible who’s on whose side, and who their opponents are, and today, we’re going to look at a few.
But first: Crash course into color theory:
Tumblr media
Warmer colors evoke passion or uncertainty, movement and excitement, happiness and warmth, but also rage, aggression, love, and lust. The cooler colors evoke sadness and serenity, but also youth and spring and winter and death.
Most of the time when a creator wants to juxtapose color in a narrative or other work, they’re going to use inverses, just google one of the hundreds of teal and orange movie posters. Inverses are whatever colors lie at opposite sides of the wheel. Blue and Orange, Red and Green, Purple and Yellow. These pairs show up either in opposition, or as an ensemble of one character or a group or team.
Part 1: Black and White
Yes it has grounds in racism, but black and white are also accepted to mean chaos and order, good and evil, death and life.
In a show like Lost, themes of black and white are constant. The black and white backgammon pieces, the colors of the Dharma station logos, the show’s main title card, God stand-in Jacob (Lucifer from Supernatural), and his unnamed brother, the Man in Black.
Black and white show up *everywhere,* in some places subtler than others. In fiction with a male and female lead, if they are coded in black and white, the man is almost always the one in black. Black means strength and mystery and this deep, almost corrupted darkness. White is purity, femininity, youth, and nurturing, when a woman wears it, unless she's the villain.
Villains in white are very often surprise villains:
The White Witch (Chronicles of Narnia)
Saruman (Lord of the Rings)
President Coin (Hunger Games)
Hans (Frozen), Mayor Bellweather (Zootopia), Auto (Wall-E)
Elizabeth from Pirates of the Caribbean is an interesting case. She begins the first movie wearing light colors and being trapped in the pure and lawful life of the governor’s daughter. She ends her arc in the third movie in solid black (through several costumes) a badass Pirate King and wife of the new Captain of the Flying Dutchman.
Men in black are chivalrous, dark knights, or morally grey vigilantes, silent badasses, or edgy badboys. Black is also of course reserved for villains a la Darth Vader, or Severus Snape and Voldemort and a million others. The "Black Knight" is his own trope, whether he's in a fantasy setting or not.
Women in black are temptresses, or seductive badasses. Black is the color of corruption, sin, and angst in western media 9 times out of 10 unless a narrative wants to subvert it.
I could do an entire essay on black and white in Lord of the Rings alone but here's a few other contrasts: The white Tower of Ecthelion, Minas Tirith, the "White City", the White Tree, Gandalf the White. The Black Riders, Black Speech, Black Land of Mordor, Orthanc (Saruman's Tower).
But you don’t have to make your character’s entire costumes black and white, no, you can just make their hair light and dark.
Part 2: Hair
**Possibly also because racism but we don’t have time to unpack all that right now**
When you have your male protagonist and his male foil, love interest, competition, companion, lancer, or villain, most of the time (in western media where blonds are in abundance) the more noble or “good” character of the two will be blond, the other brunet, especially in a love triangle. If two male characters have opposing ideologies on any level, they will often have opposing hair. A male and female lead duo will also tend to have opposing hair, but it’s most obvious what they’re doing when it’s two dudes and not just coincidence.
Here’s a nonexhaustive list, with the brunet first (ignoring if the adaptation was faithful):
Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamnee (LoTR)
Aragorn and Boromir (LoTR)
Aragorn and Theoden (LoTR)
Denethor and Faramir (LoTR)
Thorin and Bilbo (Hobbit)
Jack Shephard and James “Sawyer” Ford (Lost)
Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar (Brokeback Mountain) *Also have opposing hats*
Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent (The Dark Knight)
Tony Stark and Steve Rogers (Marvel)
Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers (Marvel)
Loki and Thor (Marvel)
Nico di Angelo and Will Solace (Percy Jackson)
Percy Jackson and Jason Grace (Percy Jackson)
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson (the Cumberbatch one)
Sam Winchester and Dean Winchester (Supernatural)
Edmund Pevensie and Peter Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia)
Gale Hawthorne and Peeta Mellark (Hunger Games)
Damon Salvatore and Stefan Salvatore (Vampire Diaries)
Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby (2013 Gatsby)
Caledon Hockley and Jack Dawson (Titanic)
Notable nonexhaustive exceptions:
Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy (Harry Potter)
Percy Jackson and Luke Castellan (Percy Jackson)
Jacob Black and Edward Cullen (Twilight)
Batman and Superman (DC Comics)
Luke Skywalker and Han Solo (Star Wars)
Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) *wardrobe makes up for it*
*Feel free to tag the ones I missed
Not every brunet on the list is a “bad” guy, nor is every blond the “good” guy, but compared to each other, the brunet tends to be the more morally grey, the more corrupted, the one who’s ideologies end up getting them hurt or killed or proving them wrong. Or, the brunet faces more demons, has a darker personality, or tends to have a “shoot first ask questions later” philosophy.
This of course goes out the window if the media is set in a region or with a cast of characters who are meant to share similar features, like how there’s no blondes at all in Last Airbender (otherwise Aang would absolutely fit the pattern).
Whether that’s Frodo getting corrupted by the Ring and Sam being his rock, Jack Twist getting murdered while Ennis lives on, or the beloved Dark Knight and his bat-black demons while Harvey’s White legacy saves Gotham, next time you write a brunet and his blond competition, ask yourself just why you’re doing it.
*Side note, I’m pretty sure Harvey Dent, when he’s animated, is usually a brunet, but he’s also usually Two-Face by then and no longer a hero*
I don’t even have time for black and white in anime or the trope of the white-haired anime boy and since natural hair colors are kind of moot, I don’t think the same rules apply. But outside of the westernized “black knight vs white knight” I do want to dig deeper into color motifs in anime at some point.
Here's some notable dark and light dichotomies nonetheless in wardrobe and/or hair:
Kirito and Asuna (Sword Art Online)
Lelouch and Suzaku (Code Geass)
Midoriya and Bakugo (My Hero Academia)
L and Light (Death Note)
Medusa and Stein (Soul Eater)
Sasuke and Naruto (Naruto)
Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Eiji and Ash (Banana Fish)
Kyoya and Tamaki (OHSHC)
Yuri and Viktor (Yuri!!! On Ice)
Dracula and Alucard (Castlevania)
Part 3: Red v. Blue and everything in between
The megalith that is the color motif extends past the white/black dichotomy.
It’s also red and blue.
If red is pitted against blue in any story, red is always the team the audience is supposed to root against, unless this is sports. Red is the color of the Sith, the Fire Nation, red eyes are seen as evil, red is blood and rage and wrath and fire. Red is the color of evil empires. Blue is the color of heroes. It’s water and healing and camaraderie, serenity. Blue is the color of rebels and underdogs.
Red versus blue is in everything from the color of lightsabers in Star Wars to the color of cybertronian eyes in Transformers, to the color of the Water Tribes and Fire Nations (with some exceptions a la Azula’s blue fire) to the colors of the pills in the Matrix. Red is the ‘dangerous’ choice, blue is the ‘safe’ choice. Unless your character is patriotically sporting the red, white and blue of the UK, USA, or France.
Villains usually only wear blue if they're ice-coded, or belong to a faction wearing navy blue uniforms.
Red versus blue also shows up between leaders and their lancers. The first one I can think up off the top of my head is Robin and Raven from Teen Titans.
Purple is also usually lumped in with the bad guys and green with the good guys, but purple and green also show up a ton as contrasting colors of the same character like the Hulk or the Joker. But both can swing either way. The Decepticons in the early cartoons for Transformers had purple everywhere and reclaimed it in Transformers: Prime. Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, the Vehicons, Airachnid, and the Dark Star Saber, and some G1s]. Prime also has three sets of red-blue dichotomies within their factions: [Arcee/Cliffjumper, Optimus/Ratchet, and Knockout/Breakdown].
Green is the color of more Jedi, and the Green Lanterns, but green also represents sickness or disease or generic evil energy a la Loki, Dr. Facilier (Princess and the Frog) or the Hyenas and Scar in the Lion King.
Pink is really up in the air, as is orange and yellow, especially when it comes to female characters, especially female anime characters.
But enough about color dichotomy.
Part 4: Color Singularity
Color singularly is either meant to evoke a specific emotion, like using blue everywhere to represent sadness, or it’s meant to be a bold statement in an otherwise grayscale world.
I mentioned a few at the top of the post and I’ll elaborate on them here:
In Great Gatsby, green and yellow are very important colors. The “green light” is this real object at the end of the titular character’s love interest’s dock. This light and this color are motifs that represent Gatsby’s longing for Daisy and to return to a glorious past he can never have again (it’s also the color of American money). Yellow is also everywhere in this book. It’s the color of his chekov’s car and several dresses at his extravagant party. Yellow is the color of his current life of glitz and glam and riches (and is also the color of gold). If you listen to one of the accompanying songs to the 2013 film, Florence and the Machine’s “Over the Love” recognizes the importance of yellow in the narrative.
Dorothy’s red slippers in the Wizard of Oz are hyperbolically bold, especially since the movie starts out in black and white. Color is a huge piece of this film- the Emerald City, the Yellow Brick Road, the horse of many colors. Red scientifically is the color humans tend to notice first, those shoes were made to be remembered. Color in Wizard of Oz is the symbol of the fantastical, which was really helped by the time the film was made and simply seeing so much color on screen dazzled audiences.
Red catches your eye faster than any other color, and red in a world of black and white sticks in your mind, just look at Schindler’s List.
Belle from Beauty and the Beast, along with a lot of fictional women wear blue. Blue is biblically Mary’s color, and at one time was the color marketed to women before the shift to “blue for boys”. In the original Beauty and the Beast, Belle was the only character who wore blue, because she was an outsider, and outlier, a free-thinker. Or at least, Belle is the only one who wears blue until she dances with the Beast. The live-action remake didn’t maintain this extra level of the narrative and that’s a shame.
I didn't mention eye color much above (also maybe because racism) but blue eyes, especially animated blue and green eyes, go to characters who are more hopeful, heroic, nurturing, morally just, honest, or brave than their brown-eyed counterparts, unless he's a blue-eyed Tall, Dark, and Handsome. Blue-eyed people tend to be blond, so the traits go hand in hand for the "good" character.
Weirdly enough, this also applies to blue-eyed animal characters -- your animated anthropomorphised villain is rarely going to be drawn with eyes that aren't brown, black, green, red, orange, or yellow.
Because color is also a subliminal or overt way of foreshadowing in both written and visual media as much as any other motif and recurring symbol. You can foreshadow death, or impending doom, or an eventual identity reveal, whatever you want.
You can also subvert the usual associations with specific colors. Black doesn’t have to mean evil in your world. Black can be life, too. White doesn’t have to be pure, white can be clinical and sterile and lifeless (but please no more lady villains in white pantsuits, that's its own cliche at this point). Shake it up a bit every once in a while.
So whether it’s dueling ideologies or the very forces of good and evil, a harbinger of doom or a secret tell, or community and camaraderie, or an enduring hope, you can represent it all with a careful dose of color.

TALL TALES | usopp
synopsis: usopp comes to drop off letters for you to read and one day you let him inside. authors note: hello. usopp deserves love and attention. cw: fem reader, sfw, fluff wc: 2.6k
--------------------------------------------------------
You lived on the outskirts of Syrup Village in an old house passed down from your grandmother. The village all thought it was haunted but you’ve lived here your whole life and the only thing scary was the occasional mouse that snuck in and squeaked behind the walls. All of this didn't help your image much. Gloomy girl, in a scary house on the outskirts of town. People tend to have their reservations about you.
All of them but one.
A village boy about your age. Usopp. Recently he’d been stopping by your house more frequently after hearing you were staying all alone.
At first you didn’t answer the door when he’d come. To be honest you’d gotten used to the solitude and you weren’t really sure how to be a friend to someone. But Usopp was insistent. He’d come by with food and flowers, he’d bring books for you to read and leave them in your mailbox. He’d write you letters that left you in awe. He’d string together stories of his travels over the oceans. Stories of pirates and monsters and mysteries. To be honest you looked forward to the letters every week. You knew they had to be fiction but liked how outlandish they were.
One day after seeing him walking up your path you took a deep breath, running a quick hand through your hair before opening the door. Usopp, who had been reaching for your mailbox lurched at the suddenness of the door opening and stumbled backwards with a strangled scream.
“Oh, god, I’m sorry!” You apologized, walking onto the stone porch. Usopp stared bug eyed at you as you lent him a hand. “Here, let me help you up.” You say and hesitantly Usopp slides his warm hand into yours and lets you pull him upright. He dusted himself off clearing his throat. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“You didn’t scare me Miss, I just uh- I’m a bit shaky from my last adventure, that’s all.” He covered smoothly. You knew his letters were just stories he made up but you didn’t mind, he wove them with such care.
“Last adventure, huh?” You echoed. Usopp proudly nodded his head, presenting his letter to you. Slowly you grabbed it, holding it delicately in your grasp.
“Chronicled to perfection.” He said as a smirk overtook your lips.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less.” You say, smiling up at him. “Would you like to come in, I can make us tea?” You offer. Usopp’s brows shoot upwards, surprised at your invitation.
“Come… in? Inside the mansion?” He asked, eyes looking behind you down the dark hallway.
“The great Captain Usopp isn’t scared right?” You ask, his eyes slide back to yours, something resolute in his stare.
“Absolutely not, my dear. Lead the way.” He says with bravado. You laugh and turn, leading him inside your house through the winding hallways. A few times you hear him start to jog so he doesn’t lose you through the throng. “It’s windier than I thought.” He says slightly out of breath.
“My grandmother thought that building complex hallways could confuse the ghosts that reside.” You say eerily. It was a lie, it was more because your grandma had an illness near the end that made her forget what she’d already built. You heard Usopp gasp slightly and turned to look at him. But at your attention he puffs up his chest and shoots you a smile. You turn back around and flip the lights on to the kitchen. Usopp stops to look around because leaning a hand on the counter you were standing by, trying to look at ease.
“So… about the ghosts-“
“Oh we don’t talk about them much, Usopp, that gives them power.” You say and the look on his face is priceless. “But,” you start, reaching for a kettle and filling it with water. “Since you asked I wouldn’t want to be rude. There’s four that I know of.” You say, placing the kettle on the stove and flicking on the burner.
“Oh that’s— that’s okay, Miss. I wouldn’t want them to cause you trouble when I leave.” He says quickly as you give him a weary smile.
“They don’t trouble me anymore.” You say cryptically, just then there’s a loud sort of banging sound. Usopp turns white, practically jumping into your arms. Obviously he didn’t know it was your cat jumping off the shelf to the floor. “Captain Usopp, are you alright?” You ask and he clears his throat, moving pointedly away from you.
“Hah yeah- just uh, just excited for that tea of yours.” He covers and you have to turn away so he doesn’t see you laughing.
“Yes, right, we’ll take a seat and I’ll get you something to eat. You must be tired from all the adventuring.”
“If you’d like, you can skip reading my recent letter and I can just tell you?” Usopp asks as you smile to yourself.
“I would love that.” You say. Usopp takes a seat as you hand him a fresh scone you had cooked earlier in the day, sliding tea next to the plate. Usopp clears his throat.
“It was a dark and stormy night,” He starts, putting on a show for you as he munches on the scone and sips on the tea, burning himself the first time. “Rain was pounding against the deck of my great vessel, so hard that it left indents in the wood.” He says as you purse your lips, holding your tea mug in your hands as he speaks. “I lost many men that fateful night.” He says somberly. “The fog and rain was so thick we were able to see a great landmass before we crashed into it.” He makes a crashing sound with his mouth before tearing off another bite of scone to pop into his mouth. “We were stranded! And the worst of all, there was something lurking on that island.” Another loud crash, recognizable to you because your cat often knocked plants from the living room table, but Usopp flew out of his seat. “There! There it is again!” He gasps as you slowly nod your head.
“I think the ghosts like your story.” You answer and Usopp’s dark brown eyes find yours. He looks alarmed but at your obvious calmness he sits back down, maybe reluctantly. His hands are slightly shaking as he sips his tea and you start to feel a little guilty. You invited him in because you liked his letters, you didn’t want to scare him away for good. “Please, continue with your story.” You say and he clears his throat, settling back down in his chair.
“Right- uh where was I…” He squinted his eyes in thought. “Ah! The monster. So, I was the one who discovered the thing. Tall and scabrous, it looked as though the sea had carved it itself.” The story he weaved drew pictures in your mind as you pictured some grotesque creature with seaweed on its body. “But never fear my dear for the great Captain Usopp always has a plan!” He bangs his hand on the table, standing to his feet. “I drew my sword and made quick work of the foul beast!” He makes cutting and slashing motions in the air, it rouses a bubble of giggles from your lips. You hadn’t felt this light in years since your grandma passed. He makes one last slicing motion and gives you a wink. “Sliced the thing up three ways to Sunday. It was no match for, the Captain Usopp.” He says as you bite your lip to keep from smiling too much.
“That’s quite the story!” You say, clapping as he bows for you, slowly sliding back into his chair.
“If you’d like, I can take you on an adventure sometime.” He says as you cock your head with a smile.
“You would?”
“Of course! Every pirate crew needs a pretty lady on board.” You find yourself blushing as you hide it behind a sip of your tea.
“I think the ghost would be mad if I left.” You say jokingly.
“How mad?” He asks, his eyes trailing off to where the crash was earlier.
“Furious, they’d probably leave the mansion to haunt everyone else in town.” You say, biting your lip hard when Usopp’s eyes bug from his face.
“That’s— terrifying. I wouldn’t want to release a plague on the town.” He says in thought.
“Yeah it’s just not worth it.” You say but Usopp purses his lips.
“You are worth it.” He says matter of factly. “They shouldn’t keep you cramped in here your whole life.” He says, raising his voice as he speaks.
“Usopp-“
“You hear me ghosts! You can’t keep this pretty girl locked up forever! I’ll fight you if I have to!!!” He’s yelling towards the living room. There’s another smaller crash, most likely your cat got startled by his loud voice. Usopp vaulted onto the table in fear and you burst out laughing. He looks over at you, puzzled.
“I’m— sorry.” You say in between fits of laughter. Just then your cat comes skirting into the kitchen, hissing at Usopp. Usopp screams falling backwards from the table. You jump to your feet.
“This house!! We have to get you out of here!” Usopp yells as you help him to his feet.
“Usopp, calm down.” You giggle, turning him to face you, his wild eyes meeting yours. “There’s no ghosts! It’s just my cat.”
“But but all the loud bangs-“
“My cat is not as dexterous as other cats.” You say in a soothing tone.
“So— you were pranking me?”
“Yes. I’m sorry if I scared you.” There’s a moment of silence as Usopp takes in all this new information. For a moment you think he might get angry with you. But then his face breaks out into a large smile as he starts laughing almost uncontrollably.
“Wow! You- you got me!” He exclaims, slapping a hand to his leg as you laugh softly. “You had me scared!”
“I scared the Great Captain Usopp?” You say proudly as he nods his head, reaching and tucking a loose strand of your hair behind your ear. The small gesture turns your stomach into a butterfly's playground.
“Let’s keep that between us, hm?” He says huskily as you melt. Usopp’s eyes look over your face for a moment. “You have a really pretty smile, you know?” He asks as you shyly hide it behind your hand. “Not gloomy at all.” He winks as you bite your lip, a small laugh escaping.
“You are pretty brave, Captain Usopp, you’re the first soul to trudge the infamous Syrup Village’s haunted mansion.”
“I can’t be?”
“Not a single villager has stepped foot in here.” You say truthfully as Usopp purses his lips.
“Hm. I have to admit I was scared at first but- I think I like it. It’s cozy.”
“Cozy?” You echo amused as he smirks and looks down at you. You two were standing pretty close as you spoke. He nods his head.
“I met your grandma a few times downtown, she was very sweet, like you.”
“You think I’m sweet?” You ask and he winks.
“Very sweet, and too pretty to be locked away like some stolen princess.” He says as you sigh softly.
“I don’t mind it.”
“I think you do.” He says. “Come with me, let’s sail the seas together.” He says as you furrow your brows slightly.
“And go where? Do you even have a ship?” You ask as Usopp’s mouth falls open, aghast.
“Do I even! Of course the Great Captain Usopp has a ship, my dear!” He says, his hands slipping around your waist to pull you off the ground and spin you around. You giggle as he sets you down. “Come on, I’ll show you!” He says, outstretching his hand to you. You're reluctant at first, this home was solace to you. Out there with the villager and they're prying eyes felt as far from home as anything. But Usopp never stopped visiting you for close to months. He never gave up even when your door remained locked. You took his hand and he smiled warmly, dragging you through your hallways, which you had to help him navigate, and out into the day. The sun high in the sky as you two ran towards the high cliffs, the wind picking up. He stopped just at the top and pointed. Sure enough there was a ship, with large black sails, a pirate skull with a yellow straw hat on its head. It had a goat's head as the mast. There were a few people loading things on the deck. Your mouth fell open.
“Holy shit.” You whispered. Usopp’s hand never left yours as you took a step closer, rubbing your eyes but sure enough it wasn’t some illusion. He really had a ship, or at least was part of a crew that had one. “Your stories… They're all real?” You ask as you turn to him.
“No but-- they can be. I want you to come with me.” He says as your throat goes dry.
“Why me?” You ask and see Usopp actually blush.
“Well… uh because, I think you’d be a great addition to the crew.” He says nervously.
“How so?” You ask curiously.
“You're medically trained to start.” He says as you furrow your brows.
“I handed my grandma meds. I think that may be a far cry.” You say.
“Well you're smart! Yes! Very smart! We already have a navigator but maybe you could help!”
“Usopp, I don’t- I can’t just up and leave.” You say as he turns to face you.
“Why not?” He asks. Truthfully, there wasn’t much holding you here. After your grandma passed you had no other living relatives. All that kept you was,
“I can’t abandon my grandma’s house, not to mention my cat.” You say and Usopp deflates. You reach for his hand. “I’ll miss your stories.” You say and he looks down at you, sadness in his eyes.
“Your cat can come too, and we can ask some villagers to look after the house.”
“I’m not an adventurer like you, Usopp. I like it quiet, I like reading my books and tending to my garden.” You say. Usopp knows he can’t change your mind at that. You reach up and slide your hand onto his cheek, he jolts slightly at this tender touch. Rocking to your tippee toes you press a kiss to his cheek. “I expect to hear all the great travels of Captain Usopp when you return.” You say. He melts, his lips molding into a small smile.
“Promise me you won’t stay cooped up in that house. They’d all love you if they actually got to know you.” He says as you nod your head.
“Okay.” You say, wind picking up. Usopp glances back at the ship. The crew below seemingly were ready for departure. He turns back to you.
“I’m coming back because I’d like to do this again.” He says.
“Do wha-” His hand slides against your cheek as he leans and presses a soft kiss to your lips. You smile against his lips. When you pull back you can’t help but smirk up at him. He’d better come back one day.

Lovebrush Chronicles: Godheim Review
_________________________________________
My very long, informal, and definitely biased review. This will contain minor spoilers for the Godheim arc only so take caution. This review is also only limited to the Godheim series so there will be no overall thoughts on the game itself. I followed Otome Kitten's format and I really hope it helps out any beginners to LBC.

ART:
I found the art very pretty and was extremely glad to see that they did not skip out on giving us CGs either! The sprites all looked good, but I personally have some issues with Lars' outfit (the orange did not look good on you sweetie 💀).
Not all CGs are drawn by the same artist however, which may be off putting for some. The total count number of proper CG's for each route (not including common route) boils down to around 4-5, so that also may be a pet peeve for some.
On another note, there are also mini CG's which appear as small boxes, whether you consider it as an actual CG is up to you. Personally, I enjoyed the roles they played towards aiding the narrative.
Unrelated note, I'm banging on the floor crying and wondering who the hell did Ayn's CGs (the one where he was cleaning his sword was my absolute favorite 😍) and why didn't they come back.
MUSIC:
If there's one aspect of the game that I shall praise to the ends of the earth, it's the music.
Colour me shocked when I listened to the intricate and deep soundtracks for the first time, they just took my breath away! There were many gorgeous orchestral scores that depicted the fantasy setting perfectly. Not to mention the battle ost's which had more effort put into them than necessary.
My personal favorite OST's would be the "River's End", and "Starry Sky", which plays the same tune as the OP song you hear when you log onto the game. It's honestly so iconic. 😭👌
Opening theme:
youtube
VOICE ACTING:
I was absolutely flummoxed by the stacked japanese voice cast, which all included extremely famous seiyuus from the otome industry:
1. Ayn Alwyn
[JP VA: KENN]: Shelby Snail (Cupid Parasite), Yukimaro (9R.I.P), Limbo (Bustfellows)
2. Alkaid McGrath
[JP VA: Tachibana Shinnosuke]: Seiya (9R.I.P), Henri (Piofiore), Rafayel (Love and Deepspace)
3. Lars Rorschach
[JP VA: Junichi Suwabe]: Artem (Tears of Themis), Van Helsing (Code: Realize), Sukuna (Jujutsu Kaisen)
4. Clarence Clayden
[JP VA: Kosuke Toriumi]: Rei Mukuni (CollarXMalice), Ichiya (Variable Barricade), Chojiro (Nightshade)
5. Cael Anselm
[JP VA: Daisuke Hirakawa]: Saint Germain (Code: Realize), Tower Overlord (Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk), Lucas Proust (Virche Evermore)
COMMON ROUTE:
To my delight, the pacing was done very well. Nothing was dragged out and the introduction to the overall plot of the game was well established minus a certain plot point which definitely could have benefited better by being introduced in the common route itself.
I didn't really expect it to turn out as dark as it did however. The common route + modern prologue took me around a total estimation of more than 4 hours but in reality the prologue itself shouldn't take that long at all.
ROUTE ORDER:
Once you've completed the common route, you are given the option to start either Ayn's or Alkaid's route. After you've completed both, Lars' route is unlocked. And once you've finished all three routes, Clarence's route unlocks as the grand finale.
This was my personal playthrough and I wouldn't have changed it if given the chance. I believe it had the best flow of story progression. Though that was mainly because I wouldn't have enjoyed Alkaid's route as much if I'd played Ayn's first:
Alkaid = Ayn = Lars = Clarence
____________________________________
AYN ALWYN:
- Crown Prince of Godheim
- Tsundere
- Sweet tooth ❤️
Tumblr media
Ayn is Lars's cousin, but you soon find out that there is not a hint of familial love between them. He shows up as a mysterious figure during the common route and portrays a conflicting character, making the heroine unsure of his standing. While he appears blunt and crude, he is a determined young man who's sworn vengeance, and with an unexpected love for sweets.
Ayn's route in my opinion had the best consistent pacing as well as romance. I did find the romance somewhat abrupt early in the story, but the strong chemistry between him and the heroine more than made up for it! 🥰 It was just so enjoyable to watch them banter with one another and watching them just click.
I enjoyed the storyline for this route a lot and I think it had something to do with the fact that Ayn's route provided a different perspective in comparison to the others. In this route, we learn more about the the political situation surrounding Godheim and the royal family.
I also loved Ayn as a character, and not unexpectedly became my oshi ❤️.I do think a lot of people will enjoy him as a love interest. His route also has a wee bit of spice 👀, so for y'all thirsty gamers be sure to savor it slowly, as it's the only bit of spice we're getting here lmao. I did find some of his actions, mostly in the bad ends, to be OOC, but I easily brushed it off seeing as how much I liked him.
ALKAID MCGRATH:
- Member of the Noventrate
- Good, sweet boi
- Tea
Tumblr media
Devoted and caring, Alkaid is the mage assigned to guard the heroine during her stay in Godheim. He's always expressing his concern for the heroine and will do anything to help her, even if it means betraying his mission.
Alkaid is the character who the heroine interacts the most during the common route. His romance with the heroine was sweet, even if it did feel way over the top in it's initial stages when I first played it. But once I got to learn more about him, I realized that he truly just wanted the best for the heroine, romantic feelings aside. 🥺
The route was fine. But I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the direction (?) it took on halfway. Some parts of it felt irrational to me and didn't really feel like it had any real relevance to its own story.
On another note, Alkaid is such a dreamy man. 😩 I adore just how respectful of a man he is in general (women respect juice, bottoms up!), and it was so sweet how attentive he was in making sure the heroine was always out of harm's way. I guess you could say he was someone akin to a hero in fairytales.
LARS RORSCHACH:
- Emperor of Godheim
- Good at combing hair 🥰
- That chest doe 👀
Tumblr media
Known as the "Tyrant Emperor" from the heroine's manga, he immediately sweeps her off her feet, claiming her as his bride the moment she first arrived at Godheim. While his initial impression was flirty and playful, he lives up to his name as a cold-blooded tyrant. For some aspects at least.
His route focused more on the Silver Knight, which was the main (and wrong) reason why I enjoyed his route so much! 😆 On that note, I think that the writers had a bone to pick with Lars. They just had to force him to share the spotlight with an intriguing side character lmfao. The route itself was paced and executed well for the majority, but the quality of the writing towards the end was slightly skewered.
But to be honest, I quite enjoyed Lars a lot as a character, rather than a love interest. It was interesting to see the conditions surrounding his birth as a tyrant and his motivations for his questionable actions.
That's not to say that the romance wasn't enjoyable. I actually quite liked the relationship between him and the heroine. I found some moments they shared together really sweet. I also adored the development of Lars' feelings, and you can see just how important the heroine's existence was to him at the end of the route.
Though I guess I would have found the romance more believable if the heroine articulated her feelings for Lars more. I found it difficult to see the romance from her side. In short, the romance wasn't it's strongest point.
Clarence Clayden:
- Godheim's Archmage
- Get the tissues
- I've never been the same since...
Tumblr media
Clarence has somewhat poised himself as an antagonist, only giving leeway in Lars' route. Distant and cold, he is stubborn in wanting to use the heroine for his goal and is willing to sacrifice anything to achieve it.
This route was an emotional rollercoaster. It broke me down, dumped my heart 6ft underground, trampled on its grave, and then some. It left me broken for a whole week for real goodness gracious...😭
This route can probably considered the "True Route", seeing as how it tackles the problem straight on unlike in other routes. The pacing slows down a little bit for a few chapters, but once it picked itself back up, it picked up HARD.
Now let's get to the romance. Out of all routes, some may say it had the least sugary romance, and a part of me agrees. But do igaf? No! ❤️Clarence turned out to be such a longingly sweet character and despite all the harm and pain he's done, I have no qualms in forgiving him and wanting to love him with all my heart🥺, as does the heroine.
I honestly don't want to say too much as it may ruin the experience. I went into this route completely blind and boy was I glad. All I can say that this route was the most popular out of all the routes for good reason. Got me playing up to 2 am with no regrets.😆😭
CAEL ANSELM:
- The Silver Knight
- The bias wrecker
- The sus
- He ruined me...
Tumblr media
He is known in Godheim as the Silver Knight as well as the leader of the Rebellion. Decisive and apathetic, the heroine is unable to affect him emotionally in any form.🤡
Cael does not have an actual route, but a personal story, labeled as Expedition from his POV which may serve as an epilogue to the Godheim series. In his story, any unanswered questions are explained here, as well as the many actions he took that did not make it on screen.
If this wasn't a review I'd spend one whole section brainrotting about him so be grateful I'm trying to keep this short. 😅 Cael is a surprisingly interesting character by nature and it was very liberating to finally get a glimpse of his true feelings and thoughts throughout the heroine's journey in Godheim.
I'm scared to say more in case it may ruin any surprises. In my opinion, I enjoyed his story a LOT! It definitely made me feel depressed and empty in its own way and it hurts my heart to see that he never got a route of his own for reasons I won't get into right now. Absolutely amazing and one of my favorite parts of the Godheim series!

TRUE EPILOGUE:
Tumblr media
Once you've finished all routes, the game will give you the option to choose one "True Ending", wherein you choose one of the boys to have a happily ever after with and by your own accord.
"One can only paint a world in which they believe in." 🥰
Please note that you can only choose one boy at a time. Your choice will then give you a Pictura based on which boy you choose.
To change your "True Ending", buy the Diadem from the shop to change your choice. You will not receive a different Pictura however.
I think the best thing about these endings were the music.😆 Each soundtrack was unique to each character and drop dead gorgeous to listen to. 😩
HEROINE (LITTLE PAINTER):
- Cheeky
- Anonymous manga author
- Needs a therapist (rly tho)
Tumblr media
Despite China's strange attempts at creating self-insert heroines by leaving them nameless, the Little Painter was far from a blank slate! She's extremely relatable when it comes to her reactions and actions. Often times I would react a certain way to something an LI said or did, only for her to do the same thing! 🤣 I guess that could also count as a self-insert personality.
But if there's one thing I admire her greatly for, it would be her drive and determination to save Godheim. Her journey was far from easy and I doubt I could ever stay sane the way she did. Tbh, I didn't like the fact that her sufferings were never truly addressed properly, or rather, professionally ig?
I also found her quick adaptation and flexibility to her new environment extremely impressive. That goes the same to the way she wielded her powers for the first time. And how she grew stronger to go head to toe with even Clarence in his own route! You👏 Go👏Get👏 Em👏 Girl!
That said, she's not perfect. Some people found her to pushy and annoying though I personally found it okay. I was really glad how she didn't force herself to tolerate any crap and got that anger out rightfully.😆 (Asmoran deserved it...)
Tumblr media

Final Thoughts:
Tumblr media
I have enjoyed my journey immensely! The whole premise and setting drew me in, and I was surprised with the impressive narration which absolutely pummeled me to the ground (mostly on Clarence's route and no I'm not shutting up abt that).
The localization was also really superb? Yes it had a few typos + mistakes here and there, but they really pulled out all the stops when it came to making the dialogue natural and relatable. Not to mention a few large words that even I don't understand. 😂
It's not without it's imperfections of course. There are definitely some issues with the writing. And if you're looking for heavy romance or even fluff, Godheim is not the place to go to. 😅
Playing the Godheim arc took me about a week-ish, considering I had to level up and such. It may be a tedious process for some, but for me, it was an iron gate which I violently shook every day, screaming for the next chapter.
All in all, it's definitely worth playing! You don't lose much anyway considering it's free, so just give it a try. You can always drop it if you don't like it. My rating for this game is also very much biased and should not be taken seriously:
8/10

I really love your fic Aura and I was wondering how you think krauser and leon's relationship would have continued within that story.
Took me a minute to get my thoughts together on this, but boy do I have a lot of them, anon 🤭
They're so complicated to me, and I'm honestly kind of (read: intensely) obsessed with the dynamic of teacher-partner-antagonist they have going. The way things end in re4 is something out of a tragedy, and Krauser's motivations are always a bit of a mystery to me. But let's back up a bit, first:
I actually have plans to write a sort of follow-up to Aura, but I've been so busy with everything else that I haven't gotten around to it, haha. I'm interested in their military training days, and what exactly Krauser and Leon had that made them spar each other in private and for Krauser to train Leon more than anyone else. The fact that he's never been in any sort of military setting before and was thrown directly into special forces training is a pretty raw deal, and I think Krauser would notice him struggling to keep up. It's hard to say what exactly Krauser knows from the government, but the situation is fishy to anyone with eyes, and I think he's a smart enough guy to piece together at least a little bit of what Leon's going through. Leon's presence is an anomaly he has to figure out, and paying attention to him just makes Krauser more interested in his obvious talent and strange paradoxical attempts to do his best. Pair that with Leon's big blue eyes and pretty face, and I think Krauser is pretty much sold on training him more than the rest of his soldiers. Of course, because it's Krauser, that involves brutal conditioning and self-discipline (he likes control) and I've joked with @electricfencing that they probably hunt each other through the forest with knives for 'stealth' and 'awareness' training 😭😭 I also think there's something to be said for the jealousy of everyone else training under Krauser, critical of his blatant favoritism, and there's conflict there I'd really like to explore in a fic!!
I think a lot of Krauser's motivation is to shape Leon into not only an equal but someone who can surpass him as a fighter, taking advantage of his natural skills and honing him into a weapon like Krauser is. He's big on power, especially in re4, but I feel like he's always seeking to make himself better and passes that on to Leon because it's a way to show he cares. With the whole "I trained you well" line in Spain, he hands over the metaphorical torch, acknowledging that Leon has beaten him and has gained the power he wanted Leon to have in the first place. And I think Leon goes along with it because it makes him feel wanted, even if the last thing he wants is to become violent and weaponized, because Krauser is there for him when nobody else is. He's eager to please and easily moldable into whatever shape Krauser wants him to be, and that dedication just draws Krauser in like a moth to flame.
In terms of romance, there's a ton of homoerotic tension from day one, and they've definitely kissed and done more than kiss, but considering the setting and who they are I'm not sure how deep it goes. I think they probably have at least a few months of established 'togetherness' and casual domesticity, even if they don't talk about it. I see Krauser being the one to pull away, and I've written a couple drabbles on the subject, especially with his arm injury and operation Javier throwing a wrench in their relationship and giving Krauser disillusionment in his job and disappointment in himself. I think Leon would be the one to get more attached, and Krauser's 'death' and actual death hit him hard both times.
I could quite literally write an essay on the two of them, and I'm also really fascinated by the concept of them as parallels---with the opening of Darkside Chronicles, we get introduced to the imagery of snakes and butterflies, and ughhhhh the metaphor potential is crazyyy. On the surface, Leon can fit into the butterfly space (pretty, naïve, light etc.) and Krauser is the snake (dangerous, relentless, strong) but the real significance comes from what they have in common... which is metamorphosis. Both snakes and butterflies are symbolic of change; a continual cycle of rebirth and a one-time transformation, respectively, which is why I think Krauser is closer to a butterfly and Leon is closer to a snake. Leon lives a much more cyclical life, always falling apart and coming back together only to fall apart and lose something again, where Krauser's transformation is a brief burst of power and strength that is unsustainable and burns him out. They share the need to change themselves, but the motivations are different, and it's part of what makes them so tragic as a pairing. They were bound to separate from the start!! I had a whole rant a while back about their purposes in life and the way they try to deal with an intangible 'hole' they can't fill, but this is starting to delve into character analysis instead of relationship analysis 😭 you've stumbled onto something I've thought a lot about, haha. I hope this was coherent, and thanks for the ask!! I'm ill about metaltango and I will always talk about them happily <33

shadowhunters ships as taylor swift songs
the saga of unhinged shadowhunters chronicles posts continues! once again this post is absurdly long so i'm putting it under a cut. let me know your thoughts/other songs that remind you of particular ships cause i'm always down to talk about that!
clace: state of grace
we fall in love 'til it hurts or bleeds, or fades in time
and i never saw you coming, and i’ll never be the same
so you were never a saint, and I've loved in shades of wrong, we learn to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts
malec: lover
and there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear, have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?
can I go where you go? can we always be this close forever and ever?
my heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue, all's well that ends well to end up with you
sizzy: wildest dreams
say you'll remember me, standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe, red lips and rosy cheeks, say you'll see me again, even if it's just in your wildest dreams
someday when you leave me, i bet these memories follow you around
say you'll see me again, even if it's just pretend
wessa: peace
but I'm a fire, and I'll keep your brittle heart warm, if your cascade ocean wave blues come, all these people think love's for show, but I would die for you in secret
and you know that I'd swing with you for the fences, sit with you in the trenches, give you my wild, give you a child, give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other
i'd give you my sunshine, give you my best, but the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me
jessa: invisible string
and isn't it just so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to me?
something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire, chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons, one single thread of gold tied me to you
hell was the journey but it brought me heaven
blackstairs: cruel summer
devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes, what doesn't kill me makes me want you more
said, "I'm fine," but it wasn't true, i don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you
and I screamed “for whatever it's worth, I love you, ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?”
kit x ty: death by a thousand cuts
saying goodbye is death by a thousand cuts, flashbacks waking me up
i look through the windows of this love, even though we boarded them up, chandelier's still flickering here, cause i can't pretend it's ok when it's not
i take the long way home, i ask the traffic lights if it'll be all right, they say, "i don't know"
and what once was ours is no one's now, i see you everywhere, the only thing we share is this small town
my heart, my hips, my body, my love, trying to find a part of me that you didn't touch
quiet my fears with the touch of your hand, paper cut stings from our paper thin plans
gave you too much but it wasn't enough, but i'll be all right, it's just a thousand cuts
kierarktina: dancing with our hands tied
my love had been frozen, deep blue, but you painted me golden
and darling, you had turned my bed into a sacred oasis, people started talking, putting us through our paces, i knew there was no one in the world who could take it
i loved you in spite of deep fears that the world would divide us, so, baby, can we dance, oh, through an avalanche?
i'd kiss you as the lights went out, swaying as the room burned down, i'd hold you as the water rushes in, if i could dance with you again
jordelia: cardigan
when you are young, they assume you know nothing
and when i felt like i was an old cardigan under someone's bed, you put me on and said i was your favorite
a friend to all is a friend to none, chase two girls, lose the one
you drew stars around my scars, but now I'm bleeding
cause I knew you, stepping on the last train, marked me like a bloodstain
but i knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss, i knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs, the smell of smoke would hang around this long, cause i knew everything when i was young
thomastair: treacherous
and i'll do anything you say, if you say it with your hands
and i'd be smart to walk away, but you're quicksand
your name has echoed through my mind, and i just think you should, think you should know, that nothing safe is worth the drive, and i would follow you, follow you home
ghostwriter: enchanted
your eyes whispered, "have we met?" 'cross the room your silhouette, starts to make its way to me
i'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home, i'll spend forever wondering if you knew, i was enchanted to meet you
this is me praying that this was the very first page, not where the story line ends
arianna: august
whispers of "are you sure?" "never have I ever before"
but i can see us lost in the memory, august slipped away into a moment in time, cause it was never mine, and i can see us twisted in bedsheets, august sipped away like a bottle of wine, cause you were never mine
back when we were still changing for the better, wanting was enough, for me, it was enough to live for the hope of it all
so much for summer love and saying "us" cause you weren't mine to lose
charles/alastair: the story of us
i used to know my place was the spot next to you, now i’m searching the room for an empty seat, cause lately i don't even know what page you're on
so many things that i wish you knew, so many walls up i can't break through
now i’m standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking, and i’m dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah?
james/grace: my tears ricochet
even on my worst day, did i deserve, babe, all the hell you gave me? cause i loved you, i swear i loved you, ’til my dying day
and i can go anywhere I want, anywhere i want, just not home
you had to kill me, but it killed you just the same, cursing my name, wishing i stayed, you turned into your worst fears
fairstairs: run
give me the keys, i’ll bring the car back around, we shouldn't be in this town, and my so-called friends, they don't know, i’d drive away before i let you go, so give me a reason and don't say no
and run, like you'd run from the law, darling, let's run, run from it all, we can go where our eyes can take us, go where no one else is

A retelling of the Devil's Minion wherein young San Francisco Chronicle Reporter Daniel Molloy sold his soul to the devil for notoriety as a writer. Daniel instantly rose to infamy after publishing the sensational smash hit Interview with the Vampire Lestat, an autobiographical feature of the 80's glam rockstar-turned-recluse, whose mysterious vitality and beauty seems forever preserved in time. Now, fifteen years later, Armand is the fallen angel who has come to collect on their contract. Enraptured by the final manuscript Daniel has yet to complete, Armand extends him an offer of borrowed time to finish it under his watchful eye.
Armand paused, a mighty refrain like an object pivoting from centripetal force. He leapt up, wings catching a torrent of night seabreeze as he coasted down, Daniel’s arms aching and eager to catch him. Struck by those ethereal eyes, and within them, an endearment fifty fathoms deep, nebulas and beyond. And they kissed, of course, Daniel breaking all the while.  And it was in the way this devil held him, this pitiful and remarkable design of human instruments like any other, of blood throbbing through sinew and cords, all of it so impermanent but fighting so hard to live, just live. This sweet life-giving system, how it pumps so hard to serve, all these loving little cogs, and how we so often do not help it. Bittersweet thoughts for the damned-in-transit perhaps, and all the more beautiful for it. “You’re no devil,” Daniel could never be convinced. Armand’s armor and bastilles of briar lay in a decimated pile of rubble at Daniel’s feet, and he was shivering with grief. “What devil could feel so soft?” “Oh curse it and damn you, Damned You, I want all feeling gone!” “Is that so? And the love with it?” “Oh, of course, that especially!” Armand tried to sound wicked, but his failure was grand and astronomical. “That’s a shame,” Daniel murmured, unconvinced. And he wondered how he might embrace this inconceivable magnitude of being without bursting? He wondered how he’d existed half-alive only for the richness of a thousand lives fully lived could condense itself here, in these last fleeting moments, and only at the end?

BODYSHARE is coming 8th Oct. 2024 (image description below the cut!)
LUKE MILTON made a deal with the devil. Now, he's getting everything he ever wanted: musical opportunities, charting albums, world tours, and a thriving fanbase. The only cost? His body, which he now shares with the devil itself as it goes about its mysterious business. All in all, the tradeoff isn't too bad.
After all, he's also always wanted an intimate connection.
BODYSHARE is a fantasy thriller for fans of The Vampire Chronicles, Venom, and Supernatural.
ID: The book cover for Bodyshare by Leandra Inglis is position in the middle of a deep red square. Text above and below the book reads "BODYSHARE. Oct. 2024" and there are flames in opposing corners for decor. The book cover itself is deep blue and the design is made to look like a music player, with album art, a title and artist line, a progress bar, and play/skip buttons. The album art has the same deep read in the background as the post itself. It features a faded polaroid picture of a boy holding a guitar. This picture is being consumed by flames along the bottom and has a few holes burned into the sides of the frame, as well as over the boy's head. The word "BODYSHARE" is emblazoned across the top of the album cover. The title and artist line instead reads the title of the book (Bodyshare) and the author's name (Leandra Inglis). END ID.
