The faces represented in the sun and moon represents a belief in the Middle Ages that "each was the home of an archangel, who in turn was the leader of thousands of the angelic host. The sun was the abode of Michael and the moon of Gabriel."
The history, principles and practice of symbolism in Christian art. 1892.

okay so i was telling @literatureisdying about my slightly boygenius-ish dream and they were like 🤯 MAKE A POST and so i will :> super cool dream under the cut (keep in mind attie im copy-pasting cuz i dont wanna re-write all that it took me 10 mins)
idk but there was a lot of christian symbolism and there was a man with wings but like some on his waist and some coming from his shoulder blades and he was curled in on himself covering himself from view and had eyes that if you looked at them too long sparked red all over his body and he was half-nude but he was also chained up in the same position jesus was crucified but this man was on his knees and he had long fingers that at some point bled from finger to talon and the always an angel never a god was playing on repeat from a broken radio until the man screamed at it to shut up and it crackled and went dead and then there was a flashback to the wings tearing itself from the man’s body which was weirdly like contrast-y bc the man himself had dark skin and locs bulled back into a bun with like some curls around his face but the wings were bright white and the feathers were pin-straight then the dream flashed back to the “present” and his wings were bloody and so was his face but not too bad and it kinda felt like it wasn’t his blood? and maybe that’s why he was chained up but then there was another man in front of him and he was also contrast-y cuz he was pale but not white as in the race more like someone with albinism and was completely human or looked to be and he freed the angel from his chains and held him in his arms as the radio began playing always an angel never a god on crackly repeat again but there was also other songs with religious words imagery like take me to church and also romantic songs like melting by kali uchis? but it only played a line or two and circled through about 50 songs and i didnt recognize some which was weird cuz it was my sub-conscious n stuff but it ended with silence and the man kissed the angels bloody talons and then i woke up

Ok. So something that just struck me. (Technically when I was out and about earlier but I didn't have time to make up a post.)
There are some very obvious attempts in regards to William's mission & Christianity. William himself is likened to Christ quite often.
But. I also recall Albert using the words "I am the Alpha and Omega" to describe himself in one of the more recent chapters, which is a very God-the-Father thing to say...and since Albert perceives himself as sending William down the path of the Moriarty Plan kinda fits for him.
Which. Christianity, espcially Catholicism bc that's what in familiar with has a holy trinity. There are three brothers. I recall thinking it weird that the throwaway line that had been quoted regarding Professor Moriarty's family only referencing one brother. I am not looking at things rn, sorry. I think this was literally in the manga tho.
Anyay, if Albert is God, and William is Jesus/Christ... that means Louis is the Holy Spirit.
Anyway, I haven't gone further with what that means or looks like because the holy spirit as a concept is the most goddamn nebulous shit, and I never particularly understood it when I was Catholic. But I think it's like...the thing that actually acts for God?
The fact that the Holy Spirit is the most stabby and least apologetic about their course of action, the most cooly rational, the one willing to put his brothers and their in-group above the rest of the world, who cares for William more than anything else. The embodiment of brotherly love/devotion. God. There is something in me that just likes that.
It's probably just me really liking Louis.

"Agnus" by Konstantin Korobov.
I'm sure some of you have seen this already, but in case you haven't, this is one of my favorite artworks. Heavy and very striking religious imagery.

Behold the egg.
The egg, an apparently lifeless object out of which comes life, is a symbol of Christ's Resurrection.

What still makes me laugh, regardless if it was unintentional, is the final scene in “Sons of Anarchy”. It’s this big, dramatic scene where Jax Teller has accepted his death and is about to commit suicide. So, he extends his arms out like he’s Jesus and rides his motorcycle into a big rig.
And what does the trucker say right before Jax hits the truck? “JESUS!!!”

Stained glass depicting the pre-Christian legend of a mother pelican feeding her young when food was scarce by striking her breast with her beak to feed her babies with her own blood. The legend was adopted by early Christians as a symbol of Christ shedding his blood to redeem the world.
