The idea that Light gets his slyness from Sachiko becomes even better if you imagine that he also inherited the criminal record from her.

Your pick for the crimes she committed (murder, theft, elaborate heists etc.), but imagine that the one in charge of the investigation was Soichiro. All charges are eventually dropped due to a lack of evidence and she "retires" from that life as she and Soichiro can't stay from one another.

So, when Soichiro sees L & Light practically obsessed the entire investigation, he's getting anxious and perturbed for entirely different reasons.

Something I find extremely amusing that isn’t talked about is how much Light makes sense as a person once you get to know his father better. I’m not talking about the “he’s a cop” thing. That discussion’s been done to death.

I’m talking about how this man had a heart attack but managed to sneak out of the hospital, steal a police van, crash it into a building, hold a man at gunpoint, ruin the Second Kira’s plans, all of this in the span of like an hour... and besides being tired mostly just walked that shit off. Reminder this man was like 48 at this point.

Now I wonder what is going on with Light’s mother that she fell in love with this disaster of a man, even if he is a genuinely good person. Was she just as insane as him but mellowed out when they spawned a creature together? Is she where Light learned the belief that building a bomb in your desk to hide a diary is totally normal teenage behavior?

I’m just saying a lot of Light’s weirder traits make sense when you learn how insane his father is. How much more of it could be explained by his parents?

A headcanon I really love is that Light's mom was a delinquent in her youth or at least a little bit of a bad girl.

Like she had to have been the one to name Light, I have an extremely hard time believing Light's Kira Kira name was Soichiro's idea. These types of names used to rly be frowned upon a lot (and still are), up until the 2010s they were mostly refered dokyun (DQN) names, which basically translates to "dumb-ass/delinquent" names. Needless to say, it seems quite bold and daring to name your firstborn son with such a (somewhat controversial) name.

In DN HTR13 it says she loves TV Dramas (which is funny bc she scolds Sayu for watching them too much, so I like to think Sachiko is trying to be a good influence on Sayu even though she loves watching the same schlock in private hahah). And she's clearly chill with keeping Light's relationship with Misa a secret from Soichiro and warms up to her pretty quickly!

Also after Sayu goes catatonic in the later half on the manga I rly love the scene Sachiko and Soichiro have where how Sachiko pulls Soichiro to the side and suggested they basically go into hiding/on the run to protect the family. Both her and Soichiro love their family more than anything but Sachiko actually suggested a more unconventional/out-there method of protecting her loved ones to Soichiro's more standard socially acceptable approach.

Also ex-deliquent!Sachiko would explain why she's so focused on encouraging Light and Sayu to be respectable and stick to their studies, basically "focus on your futures kids, don't do dumb irresponsible stuff that might mess up your future prospects, I would know!"

I think it's cute to imagine her being a bad girl in her youth secretly behind her parents back and mellowing out after meeting Soichiro and falling in love with him. I also like to think she did such a good job burring her secret deliquent past that absolutely nobody in the family knows about it. Hey if Light inherited Soichiro's sense of justice, mby he inherited some stuff from his mom too haha (like his ability to hide stuff from ppl)? XD

But yes that's a silly Sachiko headcanon I have! I think it's very fun! :D

It’s Sayu’s turn to have some one-on-one time with Light.  Light’s a bit mortified to find out that she’d been busy.  Namely, upping her nosiness and straining her imagination in an effort to figure out where he disappeared to and why their father would disown him.

To be clear:  Sayu has progressive views regarding sexuality here.  She fully accepts the possibility that Light is gay, and she would never judge him for it.  Something wasn’t clicking with the disownment story, and she only wanted to know the full truth of where her brother went.
