Unveiling Modern Urdu Baby Names with Parentz
The world of Urdu baby names is a tapestry woven with rich cultural threads and a vibrant history. In recent times, this tapestry has embraced the hues of modernity, giving rise to a delightful blend of traditional essence and contemporary flair. This essay explores the landscape of modern Urdu baby names, highlighting how Parentz empowers parents to navigate this beautiful journey.
Beyond Timeless Classics:
While names like Ali, Fatima, and Aisha remain cherished choices, parents today seek unique options that reflect their individuality. This leads to:
Creative Twists on Classics: Traditional names are given modern spellings or combined with other names, like Rayyan Ali or Aaliyah Fatima.
Nature-Inspired Names: Urdu's love for nature flourishes in names like Gul (flower), Noori (light), and Barq (lightning).
Literary and Artistic Influences: Characters from Urdu literature and renowned artists inspire names like Laila (from Majnun Laila), Picasso (the artist), or Rumi (the poet).
Embracing Global Trends:
The world is shrinking, and Urdu names reflect this. We see:
International Names with Urdu Touches: Liam becomes Liyam, Sarah becomes Saarah, and Olivia becomes Oliva, retaining the essence of both cultures.
Fusion Names: Blending Urdu and foreign names creates unique options like Zara Alexander or Ibrahim Noah.
Meaningful & Auspicious Choices:
The core of Urdu naming traditions lies in meaning and auspiciousness. Modern parents still:
Choose Names with Positive Meanings: Noor (light), Hikmah (wisdom), and Safa (purity) are popular choices.
Seek guidance from religious scholars or elders to ensure the name aligns with their values and beliefs.
Choosing the Right Name:
Ultimately, the Modern Urdu baby names is the one that resonates with you and your family. Consider your cultural heritage, family traditions, and the aspirations you hold for your child. With Parentz by your side, you can embark on a beautiful journey through the world of modern Urdu names, and find the one that will forever be etched in your child's identity.
Remember, Parentz is a tool to enhance your experience, not a replacement for your intuition and connection with your child. Choose a name that feels right in your heart, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage that each modern Urdu baby name carries within it.

My life?
Chan x Reader
(Inspired by @cheeseceli )
Super self indulgent (had a dream about it)
Reader speaks English and Hindi. (She's me)
Genre: Major fluff, curious Chan, whipped Chan.
(Not proof read)
Would LOVE some feedback, it's my first piece to ever be posted on here. Thank you for reading 🎀
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He loved listening to you speak Hindi/Urdu. He thought it sounded sweet from you. True you did speak Hindi softer than English, you just thought that the language is 'softness' personified.
So when you were on your phone with you mom, he sat down beside you smiling to greet you. You smiled back and kept speaking into the phone now thinking to cut the conversation short as Chan was finally home, at 2am mind you.
"Accha maa abhi rakhti hoon, raat ke 2 baj rahe hai idhar." You say into the phone
(Okay mom I'll hang up now, it's 2 at night here.)
"Haa beta, so jaana and tell Chan I said 'Hi'." She says.
(Okay baby, go to sleep...)
"Haa bol doongi, love you." You says lastly, your finger hovering over the screen to end the call.
(Yes, I'll tell him...)
"Love you mere jigar ka tukda." With a kiss into the speaker she hangs up as you turn to face Chan.
He looked at you with awe and a little preplexed.
"Bed?" You asked getting up and stretching, looking at him for response.
"Bed." He nods taking your hand and leading you to cuddle you to death. (probably)
Next morning was something else...
"I want to call you something in Hindi, like a nickname. " He says from the dining table chair, as you prepare breakfast.
"Is there a special reason?" You ask plating the French toast now.
"No reason, I just want to." He says pulling you into him, smushing his face into your chest. You giggled at him.
"Okay" You replied, moving back to sit down next to him.
(Later)
"What about 'love'?"
"Pyaar."
"Princess?"
"Rajkumari."
"Angel?"
"Pari."
"I don't love any of them." Chan whined, looking up at you from his head placed on your lap. Doe eyes on complete display with utter annoyance glazed over them.
"You don't have to use them Channie, just call me 'baby' or something. I really don't mind." You assure him, not wanting to make him feel worse.
"But you call me 'jagi' sometimes and it makes me feel all tingly. I wanna do the same." He says, a little sad.
"Oh, what did your mom call you last night? Right before she hung up." He says sitting up straight and turning to you.
"Jigar ka tukda?" He nods violently at your words.
"Chan that means 'piece of my liver', it's not very endearing when it's translated but it's the sweetest thing in Hindi. Also, that's more of a parent-child nickname." You say as his expression turned from excited to grossed out to sad, again.
"Do you think we'll find something cute in animals?" He asks clearly determined to find a suitable name to call you.
"Maybe, I don't know." You shrugged.
"Bunny?"
"Khargosh...nope."
"Agreed, pup?"
"I'd rather you don't call me that at all."
"I was just teasing. Butterfly?"
"Titli."
"Why does it sound weird?" He asks as his face scrunches up.
"You're just saying that cause all you hear when I say it is 'Tit'." You giggle pinching his cheek.
"I do." He laughs, a light blush covering his neck.
"Let's pause this topic here, I'm hungry." You say to him pouting.
"Let's go out, I know this dude, that is an a-mazing chef." He gets up from the sofa pulling you up with his hand in yours and walking towards the door.
A few minutes later you were inside the cuties dorm.
"So by 'going out' you meant the dorms?"
"I meant, anywhere but home."
"And by 'a-mazing chef' you meant Minho?"
"Yep." He pops the 'p' at the end, kisses your temple before informing you that he's gonna go annoy Felix in his room.
You sit down beside Seungmin and Jeongin on the sofa as they play Mario Kart, very focused.
They greet with smiles and nods and hums.
You don't say much either as they seemed engrossed and you didn't wanna see them whine about loosing because of you later at lunch.
"Lunch is served." Says Minho standing in the middle of the dorm in an cartoonish voice.
Everybody settled on the dining table, Minho began to describe the meal he had prepared as the maknaes looked impatient to dig in.
Jeongin taking a bite as soon as Minho finished so everyone could start eating, earning an eye roll from Minho making Chan laugh a little.
"Jaan, could you pass the salt."
You pass the salt to him before fully processing what he said and freezed...
"What....did you call me?" You look at him, a little shocked but also curious.
"Jaan, do you like it?" He asks, looking at his plate, a little shy now as the boys were looking at you both in interest.
"Do I like it?? Channie that's like the best nickname anyone could ever use!!" You smile the widest with a blushing face and kiss his cheek while hugging his side, almost falling down.
He hugs you back of course (saving you from face-planting) laughing to himself.
A gagging sound from Seungmin brought you back to reality, as you looked around you saw a smirk from Felix.
"Did you use Google?" The first thing you asked as soon as you were out of the cuties dorm as your curiosity got the best of you.
"I didn't, jaan." Be says glancing at you with a proud smile before looking back to the road.
Everytime he used it, it felt unreal.
Did he even know the meaning. Of course he did. He wouldn't use such a word all the time without knowing the meaning right?
"Do you know what it means?" You ask, wondering how he found out about it if not for Google.
"Yeah, means you're my life." He answers grinning wide, glancing at you again to gauge your expression. You looked just about ready to be a ripe tomato wanting to melt away.
"How do you know it?" You couldn't just leave it, he could've seen it on the internet somewhere, Hindi wasn't exactly an unpopular language.
"Okay fine, I called your mom and she said she didn't have any but your dad always uses the word for her, so I asked her for the meaning." He says parking the car and coming around to open your door for you.
"So now you're besties with maa?" You snicker at him and walk towards your apartment door.
He's right behind you, his hands on your waist walking into the flat with you and kicking the door closed behind him.
"Can't blame me jaan, you're besties with my entire family." He says kissing your cheek and plopping down on the sofa, patting the space next to him.
"Hayee meri jaan, mera to dil aa gaya." You say kissing him and snuggling in his chest.
(My life, you've got my heart)
"I'm too tired to look for the meaning today. Let's sleep." He says kissing the top of your head and leading you to the bedroom.
"Old man needs his sleep." Seungmin's jokes rubbing off on you was not something Chan was pleased about as he mumbled a 'sure old woman' before pulling you into bed, into his chest to waft away into dreamland.
"Jaan, meri jaan." A soft whisper left his lips before kissing your temple and falling into a deep sleep.

The most random out-of-order Nimona headcanons I've scrambled out of my mind and put in my notes as coherent as I could bc there's a LOTTTT
• I don't think Nimona uses specific names to label her sexuality/gender. Was she in love with Gloreth? Maybe she was. Maybe she was not. Does she like boys? Who knows, she sure doesn't. What's her gender? Nimona. That's it
• I think Ballister did try to be the cis ally™ and figure out the label Nimona would use but she'd just shrug her shoulders and say "I don't know, boss, it seems like you care about it more than I do"
• And even though she's NOT a girl, she uses she/her pronouns because 💥YOUR PRONOUNS DON'T DEFINE YOUR GENDER💥 you may use she/her and not be a girl, he/him and not be a boy, I even saw cis people use they/them simply bc they're comfortable. And that's okay!
• Although she's comfortable with people calling her he/they/neopronouns you name it. Just. Not it/its. You know the reasons😬
• Nimona is left-handed and it's CANON actually I am SO HAPPY as a left-handed person she's just like me fr💥💥
• Nimona isn't a big fan of domestic bliss Ambrosius and Ballister spend most of their time in (plus they're very sappy and very much disgustingly in love, Nimona's stoic organism can't handle their mushiness for the dear life), she's like an independent cat I think: comes to hang out, eats, spends time with her father-not-really figures and goes away for weeks only to come back again. She travels the world my dudes✨
• I think she has a bunch of photos from the places she'd been to and talks about her adventures a lot!
• Nimona also is the best cook of the fam I'm afraid. Ballister cooks, like, the bare minimum to serve himself as a functioning adult (rice, salad, pasta, some meat like you know the deal) but nothing too complicated. Ambrosius is a nepo baby who's probably lived in palaces and mansions with dozens of servants do you really think he's good at cooking😭 as he distanced himself from the Institute and moved in with Bal I think he learnt to cook, still not great at it.
• Nimona though? SHE CAN DO *ANYTHING* like she's madly good at cooking. It might look like she's burning the kitchen down only to reveal that she was putting Gordon Ramsay to shame!
Speaking of BallBros
• Ballister's experience is close to a second gen immigrant. Ambrosius's experience is close to a third gen immigrant. They can't be immigrants bc of the context of the story?? I DON'T CARE☺
• Ambrosius doesn't speak his mother tongue except for like a few words or phrases he's heard at home. His older relatives probably make fun of him for it on family gatherings. His parents didn't teach him because they didn't want him to stick out (totally not self projecting here - yeah I'm a third gen immigrant hiii)
• Ballister tho? I think Urdu was his first language but he learned English along the way
• And it kinda mixes in his head so he forgets the words from both languages sometimes and replaces them with the word from the other one (HA my experience again)
• When he's experiencing hard emotions, be it anger, happiness, sadness, or is overwhelmed, he drops English entirely and just starts bantering in Urdu
• Ambrosius didn't know Ballister was bilingual but when he learnt it? He was amazed and I think... Kinda jealous because he didn't get to learn Korean himself (self projection yeahhhhhh)
• "You know your mother tongue? Damn! I wish I did too!"
• That said, Ballister has no idea how to shorten Ambrosius's name (WHAT THE HECK IS THIS NAME BRO WHAT ARE YOU, GOD'S FOOD???), so he sticks to Urdu endearments, "luv" (in the most British accent possible) and "darling"
People who say French/Spanish are the romantic languages are wrong LISTEN TO URDU OR INDIAN LANGUAGES OR ARABIC. THAT'S WHERE LOVE IS DUDE
• Ambrosius has learnt like a few words in Urdu and tries to rizz up Ballister by saying some basic words like "jaan", "mohabbat" and just😭😭😭 fails😭😭😭 because he's a cringefail man😭😭😭
I remember trying to ask out my (NOW EX😔) gf who's Italian by writing "will you be my girlfriend?" in Italian and I used GOOGLE TRANSLATION🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️ SHE UNDERSTOOD THAT I USED GOOGLE AND POINTED IT OUT AS A JOKE BUT I CRINGED AT MYSELF SO HARD..... Ambrosius would totally do that too and Ballister would chuckle and pull him in a kiss bc he loves this cringefail man so much
• Ambrosius also serenades like I KNOW DAMN WELL HE DOES. He goes "this one's for you, Bal" with a wink and sings like the sappiest most disgusting love ballad ever and Ballister tries his best not to laugh because that's his beloved boyfriend but also like.... So cringe. So embarrassing😭😭 Nimona has more balls than her boss so she would outright say that it's cringe
• Also. I don't agree with people saying Ambrosius's a jock because have you seen this man?? He's a theatre kid. The worst kind of theatre kid. Even after not being a kid anymore he's still a theatre kid. BRO IS A HAMILTON FAN UNIRONICALLY, OF COURSE HE IS. He makes weirdass references to musicals and giggles like an idiot
• Can we agree that Ambrosius was an awakening for many teenagers because OOOOH BOY he sure would be mine. Some pop news youtube channel probably has a video of him reading the kingdom's equivalent of "thirst tweets", like yknow this type of vids😭😭
While we're on the topic of thirst tweets
• Diego the squire runs a fan page account with edits of Ballister like he's some pop celebrity
• He also may or may not write self-indulgent "Ballister x reader" fanfiction in his off duty time
• Also hc that when Ballister was on the run he saw some "WANTED" poster of him and hang up on the wall like yeah boy's crush is EMBARRASSING (can we blame him? I'm the same with Riz Ahmed)
• Todd would be on the "straight" side of their equivalent to TikTok. You know the ones with shirtless men with the same haircuts who think they're hot when in reality they're not?? That's what Todd and his friends are up to in their free time *throws up*
To wrap it all up NOT with Todd, some super random ones:
• Ballister and Ambrosius force Nimona to take her shoes off ("DO NOT bring your European nonsense in this ethnic household") in their house even though she doesn't even have boots on😭😭 it's just her skin😭😭😭 so she morphs her form to simply be shoeless😭😭😭😭
• Ambrosius knows how to tap dance. Idk don't question it I just think he does
• Nimona plays piano YEAH SHE DOES she's lived for 1000+ years man she can do anything
• Ballister's hair routine is "genetics, coconut oil n some prayers"
Yeah that's it I'll probably make a part 2 because it's not all... These characters have occupied my mind and won't let it go🧍‍♂️

I really loved that Marauders Dark Academia post <333 I was wondering if you have any other Indian James Potter headcanons? About him or his family etc
Ohhhhh i have sO. MANY.
He does that thing where you slurp chai, click your tongue and say 'haaaaa!' Sirius and Remus give him so much shit for it for the first couple months, but then they start doing it and Peter finds it annoying and suddenly everyone in Gryffindor is being subjected to extremely exaggerated 'haaaaa!'s
He absolutely loathes it when people say British food tastes good. He gets into so many arguments with Peter about it because "come on, mate, that's the sweetest chai my mother makes, she's even skipped the ginger, how do you find it spicy?* "It has cinnamon, Jamie." "Cinnamon is fucking sweet, you little—"
He's obsessed with literature and poetry. Like, even obsessed is a mild word. People think Remus is the type to read books but no, wolf boy over there wouldn't touch a book if he didn't abso-fucking-lutely need to. James is the real bookworm— he got it from his Baba, who waxed poetic about Rabindranath Thakur and Vivekananda and Ghalib and Faiz Ahmad Faiz and told James that their writing was amazing and then there's this little boy reading under his covers with a little ball of not-so-accidentally conjured light which is how he gets his glasses before he even goes to Hogwarts.
He's three quarters Desi. His mother was from India, and his father was half Indian, because James' paternal grandmother was also from India. Specifically, both women were from pureblood Maratha lines.
He does the head movements. All the head movements. Sirius picks it up after spending literally all their time together, and Remus and Peter laugh themselves sick about it so many times, oh my gods.
Sirius learns Marathi, Hindi and Urdu from James' parents in secret and surprises James during the holidays after sixth year because he has the proper accent down and everything. James cries (but he won't admit it)
The Potter family, except James' paternal uncle Charlus and his wife Dorea, live in India till right before his 11th birthday, when the Indo Pak war breaks out. Then they move to England.
James has so. Many. Cousins. He can't remember the names of half of them and he hates how the atyas and the maushis and the mamis pull his cheeks when he visits the country, but he puts up with it because family is important to him. Also he loves playing with the toddlers and babies, they're fucking cute.
Loves kajal so much it's borderline unhealthy. There will always. Always. Be a line of black under his eyes, winging out slightly at the outer corners. Sometimes, when he's feeling himself, he will draw the wing out to a dramatic, bold style that makes the light brown of his eyes look so much more beautiful (Lily drives herself crazy over it).
Absolute pants at waltzing. He loves the music, sure (he can play almost every sheet of piano music he can find on the first try bc baby boi is a Pureblood brat /affectionate/), but he hates the dance style. He'd much rather wrap his ankles with ghungroo and dip his fingers into alta dye, because bharatnatyam is the ultimate dance form and you are wrong if you have any other opinion.
He was really good friends with the Patil twins' parents and family. They would get together to talk shit about the gore loka and Sirius would get mock annoyed that James almost never took him because "Jamie we're practically married already what the fuck mate"
He's really fucking good at maths and arithmancy, and he really fucking hates it. Stupid numbers and their stupid calculations kashyasathi kartoy mi he kay upayog tari ahe ka hyacha (marathi— why am I doing this is this even of any use) but he has a point to prove to snivellus and fuck if he isn't proving it. It also helps that his mother made him complete all fourteen levels of abacus (seven basic and seven advanced) by the time he was fourteen.

Nicknames your characters can use for each other~
Tumblr media
Poppie note: It's been a long time since I wrote any writing aid. I was looking for unique nicknames for fanfic, and realised how much I had to search, so here is your go-to guide.
Tumblr media
Casual: babe, baby, sweetheart, sweetie
Reader's favourite: love, darling, angel, my queen/king/highness, hubby/wifey/ so, princess
Reflective#1: Use nicknames that match the other person's appearance or personality (DO NOT MAKE IT OFFENSIVE)
Eg: short-stuff, Goldie(Golden retriever energy), blondie,
Reflective#2: tells about the speaker's personality
(Someone Agressive may call the other person): idiot, dumbass, stupid etc.
Cute nicknames: Doe, Kitty, Kitten, Cupcake, Guppy, Munchkin, Pookie, Dove, Flower, My star
Content dependant nicknames:
(These may sound creepy, cute or hot depending upon the context)
Little one
Little Dove
Fragile flower
Kitten
Pest
Shortening names: Jamie for Jameson, Binnie or Bin-Bin for Hanbin, Sam for Samantha
Nicholasnames: (making names longer affectionately): Cherrisma for Cherry, Parineeti for Pari
Foreign nicknames
This is one trick I personally use, and it works like a charm. Especially if the other character doesn't know the language and then they get to know what the word means later on.
Mon Chaton (french)--------------->my kitten
Mon Cheri (french) ----------------->my dear
Mi amor(Spanish)----------------->my love
Prēya (Hindi)------------------------->Dear
Hase(german)------------------------>Bunny
Dorogaya(Russian)------------------>Sweetheart
Nae Sarang (korean):--------------->my love
Yeobo (Korean)----------------------->Honey
Jaan/Jān (Hindi/Arabic/Urdu)-->(My) Life
Querido/a (Spanish)----------------->darling
Habibi (Arabic)----------------------> darling
Milashka (Russian)-----------------> Cutie
Mia bellezza (Italian)---------------> my beauty
More: https://pin.it/4qv7Xlm
Oddly Specific ones I thought of:

RRR fandom appreciation post
This fandom hardly needs me to write an appreciation post to know how much I love it. If it isn't obvious, I would like to reiterate that I am obsessed with how obsessed you all are about engaging with this entertaining, fascinating piece of art that is RRR.
The best part about this fandom is that not a single person here is an uncritical admirer of the film. I am always awed by your ability to love RRR, its characters and universe, while also being mindful of its real-world criticisms. This sort of maturity and space for debate is invaluable in a fandom.
Each one of your stories and works of art brings a smile to my face. And as I sat down to go over older RRR posts, I realized that the sheer volume of content that y'all have produced is impressive! I have missed so much of it that I will spend the entire next weekend just catching up, I think.
I also want to use this space to say thank you to some of my friends in this fandom.
@vidhurvrika you and I go way, way back. I hope you would write me more stories for RRR. But what you have written so far is absolutely beautiful. And I love you for being my gateway to South Indian cinema and my go-to person for when I need a safe space to obsess in peace.
@fangirlshrewt97 Your works are some of the earliest things I read in this fandom. As I have told you before, I really enjoyed your writing and I am so grateful that you went ahead and pretty much breathed life into the RRR tag on AO3 all by yourself.
@ronaldofandom hello fellow Bheem/Jenny fan. Dude, what would I do without you haha! Thank you for vibing with me on these two, for constantly reading my stuff and egging me on to write more. Additionally, thank you also for contributing to the Bheem/Jenny space. We need more of them!
@ladydarkey You are such a rock of support in every way. I love your willingness to engage on all sorts of things, including stuff that has nothing to do with this fandom. You are a gem of a human being. Please always remain your sweet, kind self.
@kaagazkefool Doodles, why did you change your name? I like calling you Doodles. And Doodles you will remain to me. On a more serious note, girl, you get a mention here for your poetry and for getting me on an emotional level. Again, I feel like we connect differently on your Urdu writing. It is a breath of fresh air.
@veteran-fanperson Your translations and your interpretation and your patience in teaching us about Telugu culture is so precious, I can't say it enough in words. Your writing is phenomenal and I hope you write more for us soon.
@badtabbywhitecat You are one of the cutest people in the fandom. Because you are a self-professed cat. And absolutely nothing can beat the cuteness of a cat (except for maybe a dog, but since we have no dogs in the fandom...). I want to thank you again for setting my lullaby to music, for engaging with harebrained, bloody, gory, angsty ideas in the middle of the night, and for your amazing art. I loved those paintings you made of Ram and Bheem. They are among the best works of art I have seen in this fandom.
@yehsahihai I think it is safe to call you the baby of the fandom. I won't say much. But I hope you know how much I value all the conversations we've had. I am sorry I am usually not very communicative. But please do know that I value you and appreciate you very much!
@rambheemlove We hardly ever get a chance to talk to each other. But I want to say thank you for inviting me to the Discord server and for loving and appreciating Bheem as much as you do.
@detectivejigsawpines Thank you for being one of the most supportive people I know in this fandom. Again, I am often unable to respond to the comments you leave on my works. Please know that I savor each word of encouragement you give me and I am grateful beyond words for the support.
I know I gotta end this post somewhere. I still have so much to say. Maybe I should save it for the next fandom event. @fangirlshrewt97 thank you for organising this fandom bingo. This has been so much fun!

Places I saw love:
In my father's memories, when he narrates the story of how he met my mother, with every specific detail just like if it was yesterday. In those memories I saw Love bursting through the other door, with a dramatic entrance and swelling in my father's heart./ The way my Grandfather talks about his wife. And how he says: marriages arranged can be filled with love too, if one decides to be patient and rightful towards their partner. I saw Love slowly coming there with baby steps and staying. Staying long after her time in this claustrophobic world came to an end. I saw Love staying there in the form of hope, hope that they'll be reunited in paradise. In the form of prayers, prayers like “O, Allāh illuminate her grave with noor. The same way she illuminated my life when you sent her to mine.”/ And his theory proved to be true, when I grew up watching my father's brother and his wife fall in love in the same way they did, slowly but truly. And then I looked at my grandfather, probably with the sparkly eyes, just like the kid who first discovered the joy of receiving chocolates. And Love was there standing beside him, both of them with their arms crossed and wearing the same smug expression of ‘I told you so.’/ When my first friend on the internet was asked how she met the love of her life, she said: one day she just walked in the class and coincidently the only seat which was vacant was next to her future husband, and when I was teleported there while reading her answer I saw Love there smiling at the sight of them together, and upon noticing my presence just winking at me and holding a finger to it's lips, as if to say I gave up my seat for the sake of this young love to bloom, they don't know it yet. But time will tell them soon. And It did. Time surely did in the most beautiful way./ When I'm reading my books in between classes and my head suddenly jerks up, after hearing the sound of my friend calling my name, I see Love jumping out from the book, saluting me with 2 fingers while walking away, and I smile and do the same, knowing that Love is probably just going for a walk and it will be there waiting for me within the pages, along with the characters when I'll re-open my book again. And turn to the said friend./ When I was cleaning the old bookshelves in my house and found an Urdu poetry journal with yellowed pages falling out, the binding barely holding the pages together and when I asked my mother the story about it. She just looked at it, a wave of nostalgia visible in her eyes and said “It was the notebook your father and I used to exchange in the early days.” “Really?” I breathed in excitement. “Yes, now put it away.” But I didn't. How could I? It was too lovely to put away. And as I was turning the fragile pages with delicacy, in my mind the wheels of time turned back a little and I saw Love going back and forth every end of the week, carrying the notebook filled with poetries and love and sometimes roses too, gently pressed between the pages, knocking at my mother's dorm and other times at my father's house. Then I saw Love turn to me and say “Time pases but I stay, sometimes in the form of prayers and sometimes in the form of poetries. I always stay.” and then slowly vanish away./ And now that notebook resides at the uppermost shelf of my bookshelf, and I wonder if someday Love might magically appear in front of my eyes and sneak around my room and take that notebook away from here, to deliver it on someone else's door.

I think of my aunt's maid The one who grew up with my cousins Who was afforded more freedom than most child maids Who rollerbladed to the market to do the groceries Who was invited to all my cousin's wedding events, not as a maid but as a guest Who borrowed my other cousin's dress to wear to the wedding, as sisters do The first and only time I visited She was pregnant And she knew who I was even though we'd never met "From the photos," she told me As we excitedly spoke to each other in our broken Urdu, her being fluent only in Pashto and I being fluent only in English My cousins and I were close So she heard all about the shenanigans we got up to whenever they visited And saw all the photos my parents sent And I'd seen her in photos as well At the side or in the back at birthday parties Heard stories that included her, like she was just another one of the siblings I didn't even know her name (she knew mine) But it was funny, Two complete strangers who'd watched each other grow up through photos and stories, now finally meeting face to face for the first time Speaking to each other for the first time We beamed at each other and I wished I had the linguistic capability to find out more about her I wished I had more time, to become friends with her For some reason, there were times I felt closer to her over anyone else there. Even though our conversations barely made it past formal pleasantries. I don't know why. Was it the lack of proficiency in Urdu? Was it the feeling of being included and welcomed, but not fully feeling "part" of it all? Anyways, I've forgotten her name again I don't talk to my cousins anymore and 3 out of 4 of them don't live there anymore either Awhile after I returned from my trip, she had her baby I remember thinking of telling my cousins to congratulate her from me. I don't remember whether I ended up telling them or not. I wonder if she ever got my congratulations I want to visit again I don't know if I want to see my cousins again, but I want to see her I want to see her 5-year-old child and ask how she's doing Does she still work for them? A large house, sparsely occupied by 3 adults Or does she tend to her own family now? Does she resent the fact that she never fully got to be a child? No matter how loved and "included" she was, at the end of the day she was still an employee If she does still work there, how does it feel with all of them gone? Does she know they're not friends with me anymore? Did she hear their commentary on my lewd, sinful life or was she too busy with her own life? I hope she's happy and I hope her own children enjoy the childhood that she missed out on while working for someone else's children.

Name: Mau or Mo is fine, or if you wanna call me by any variation of that, new nicknames are always welcome!
Birthday: Halloween baby!
Zodiac sign: I'm almost violently a Scorpio, so much so that I'm a Scorpio by both western and Hindu systems
Hobbies: Yeah I don't think this post is enough to cover all of them, but I'll give you the main ones. I read, a lot. Mostly fiction and fantasy genres. I play tennis and football (I'm a goalie!). I paint on good days, and sketch when I'm angry (charcoal is a lovely way to take out your frustrations. I have a sort of obsessive desire to learn all the scripts in the world, even if i don't speak the languages, so I ended up learning the Cyrillic script, the script in which Urdu is written (I forgot what it's called) even Egyptian heiroglyphs. I have a looot of ADHD, so i just jump around from one hyperfixation to another and go wherever the dopamine takes me.
Favourite colour: Ultramarine blue. That shade is the single most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Oh and black.
Favourite book: God I can't pick a favourite book, there's far too many. But i can tell you my favourite author, it's Khaled Hosseini. All of his books made me feel something so deep inside i was moved for days.
Last song I listened to: It was actually 'Muchachos' for the Argentine national football team 😂. That song is a banger
Last movie I watched: 'Silence of the lambs' Usually i love that genre, but that movie disturbed me a little.
Something that helps people: It's actually based on a quote from Alice in Wonderland which says 'I am no under obligation to make sense to you.' It was one of the most profound quotes I have ever experienced. You shouldn't be changing who you are, or the things you like for someone else. Take it from someone who spent all of her childhood masking her neurodivergence to appear normal, it will blow up on your face eventually. And it won't be pretty. Just be yourself and fuck everyone's opinion.
Meaning behind my url: I think it's pretty self explanatory. It's not meant to mock anyone or anything like that, it's just that i grew up in Mumbai where everyone's mother tongue is a different language and I naturally picked up a lot of them growing up to the point where even i don't know how many languages I know
Tagging @kingfisherprince @soronya @madhare0512 @chewiemadwriter @holdmyhopeinyourhands @zingaplanet @saltyinternetflower @neyxmessi @sunofmoon
No pressure guys, it's all for fun!

hellooo with your permission, i am coming back to bother you with the Indian James headcanons 🙏
assuming they're from Maharashtra and they speak Marathi (and Hindi? i'm assuming most families know more than just one language) at home, what would he call his parents? and what would they call him and each other? I've heard "jaan" a lot but I'm not sure how accurate that is and whether that works for Marathi too. are there any other endearment terms they could use? like love, sunshine, darling etc in English.
also i've been wondering if there's any exclamations/expressions etc that can be used within English speech without making it sound unnatural. like in Arabic we say "basmala/mashallah" for good luck or "inshallah" when we hope that something happens etc and it's integrated in English speech very naturally. wondering if there's anything of that sort?
Okay imma go step by step here. In India, especially where I live (Maharashtra yay hehe) it's pretty normal to know like three or more languages. I myself— plus my family— speak Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati and Marwadi, and even though we can't speak them we understand Punjabi and Bengali. So you assume correctly that they speak more than one language at home. Especially my family, where we know a bunch of non Indian languages as well, for business purposes.
Assuming James is Maratha, he would call his mother Aai (pronounced Aa-ee) and his father Baba (Mum and Dad). I have this headcanon that when he wants to annoy them he calls them Matoshree and Pitashree lmao (formal terms for Mother and Father in Hindi/Sanskrit).
"Jaan" means "life", and it's pretty accurate even if it's Urdu tbh, a lot of parents call their kids stuff like jaan, hayat (which you already know the meaning of), laadli (darling in Hindi), maajha baal (my baby- Marathi). If you wanted nicknames in Marathi you'll be good to go with bubdi (bubba), laadkaa or laadki (darling in masc and fem), or sonpari (golden fairy, usually for girls) and Sonu (dear, used for children).
Exclamation sounds can be "arey!" (uh-ray) which is "hey!" and "aai ga!" (aa-ee guh) which is like "oh mother!". They're just one word each, but they can be used in like 50 different situations lmao. Arey can be used for calling someone's attention ("arey come here a second will you?"), to express frustration with someone ("areyyy, why are you like this?"), exasperation ("arey yaar!" yaar is slang for friend) and a bajillion other stuff. Aai ga is used as an exclamation mark for when you're surprised, or got hurt, and in place of "oh God!". We don't have specific phrases that mean good luck or inshallah, but Urdu still uses both mashallah and inshallah so you'll be okay i think. But James probably wouldn't use them bc he's not a Muslim yk, and Hindu people usually use the name of the god they're praying on on swearing on, so there's that. We say stuff like "hay bhagwan" ("oh, Vishnu". Bhagwan is one of the innumerable names of the Lord Vishnu). Or "har har Mahadev" ("glory be to Lord Shiva". Maha-dev literally translates to Great God, but it is one of the well known names of the God of Destruction). We do use "arey deva" (oh god) as well. "Jai shree Ram"(hail to the Lord Ram) or "jai shree krishna" or "jai shree ganpati" (ganpati is what most marathi people call Lord Ganesha) is used when we're beginning something and we want to make the start auspicious. The phrases are kind of used as "may this go well and end well" ykwim? This is hard to explain I hope you get what i wanna say lol.
Anyways, this is it, I hope this helps, and you can ask me anything and i will answer. Not always so quickly but I will. Have a good day!

15. Mohabbat, Arooj Aftab
[no lyrics for this one because it is in urdu, which i do not speak]
Okay so this one is funny because...I've already written the fic that goes with it! This is on my Aravis playlist, it's a gorgeous song full of longing and little sharp edges in the music and instrumentation that just sound like her. I listened to it over and over while writing my NFE treat for Nasim this year, which is how it ended up so high on my list (that, and it's just a really fucking good song). It was the perfect soundscape for a lonely woman full of aching, delicate desire, looking at a man she knows she shouldn't want but can't keep her eyes off of. So that's exactly what I wrote off it.
45. Cornelia Street, Taylor Swift
baby, i get mystified by how this city screams your name/and baby, i'm so terrified of if you ever walk away
This is a hard one for me because it's such a modern song lyrically and I so rarely write anything set in the modern world! I think I could get a Darklina fic out of it though, with the lines quoted above - something where the Darkling muses on how the people love their Saint Alina in the way they never loved him, and what that means for her and their relationship. After all, if she has the love of the people, does she really need him at all? And since it's the Darkling we're talking about, if he did lose Alina, it wouldn't be a matter of never being able to walk down a single street full of memories again...he'd probably just obliterate the entire city. My darling meow meow!
52. Choreomania, Florence + the Machine
you said that rock and roll is dead/but is that just because it has not been/resurrected in your image?/like if jesus came back, but in a beautiful dress/and all the evangelicals were like, "oh, yes"
OBVIOUSLY this is a Susan-as-Jadis (or Jadis-replacement) song. No doubt about it. Not sure if she's also a Narnian rock star a la Lestat in Queen of the Damned at the same time, but either way. She is full of rage at what happened to her and the expectations that were placed on her and her world(s), and she is going to freak out with the complete conviction of someone who most definitely had something very bad happen to them. I feel like she'd end up wearing a lion cloak by the end, and Narnia would absolutely worship her.
