I just suddenly felt the need to write a short aragorn/frodo fic. It's been YEARS since I wrote a fanfic, should I give it a try?, it could help me improve my English writing... I'll consider it.

Rings of power spoilers ahead
I just... maybe I didn't get the whole thing
Maybe I got it wrong? Idk
And I get that its poetic and all, that in the need to hunt sauron galadriel ended up saving him.
But ur telling me that if she didn't jump out of the boat. If she accepted her "fate" and went to her little elven heaven place thingie, sauron would've just died?
Would he have drowned? Or stayed stranded at sea???
Thats just so increadibly lame
Just, the big sauron guy would've just drowned if a girlboss elf didn't want to hunt him down?
Anyways, I'm not one of the shippers I'm sorry I see where yall r coming from but just... I don't feel particularly strong about it.

One of the best parts of Fellowship of the Ring is finding out about Aragorn and Bilbo’s friendship. Like I’ve seen people talk about how they collaborated on the song together, but I have yet to see people talk about this:
“[Bilbo] turned to Strider. ‘Where have you been, my friend? Why weren’t you at the feast? The Lady Arwen was there.’”
Bilbo Baggins, The Fellowship of the Ring pg. 261
Like. Bilbo was definitely one of Aragorn/Arwen’s chief shippers and no one can change my mind about that.

i saw these two people in the tolkien discord server i’m in say this, and while i can see their point (i 100% believe that men should be able to be affectionate without romantic undertones), i just feel like so many people get the wrong idea that samfro shippers merely see them as “gay and cute”
most of us accept all interpretations of their relationship, whether that’s soulmates, queer-platonic, romantic, etc
i was wondering what your opinion on this is??
Great question! SO sorry for the delay in responding. I hope to make my reply worth the wait. Also, this answer will be really long - sorry again - but I have many thoughts on this.
I completely agree that men should be able to be affectionate without it being romantic. Women do not have this problem of fearing open affection due to assumptions about sexuality, and I think it’s a terrible symptom of toxic masculinity for men to forbid themselves from showing affection out of fear of it being misinterpreted. LOTR is full of many beautiful examples of how men can be emotionally vulnerable with each other and how platonic friends can still physically express innocent affection (Aragorn’s kiss to Boromir’s forehead is a great example). Modern society should definitely follow the examples set by these characters.
The thing is, as a straight woman, I did not go into LOTR expecting to see any same-sex romances at all. And the majority of male friendships depicted in the book and films never gave me any sense of romantic undertones. Unlike many fans, I do not ship Legolas and Gimli because I recognize that their relationship is a bridge between Elves and Dwarves, proof that they can get along, that despite their differences, they can still find common ground and respect each other and be friends. This to me is a far more important message than a generic “forbidden romantic love story” that many view their relationship as. Their bond isn’t necessarily about wanting to sleep together, but more about recognizing that they can like and be fond of each other, and not allow their parents or cultures to influence how they view each other. I do not hate the Gigolas ship, of course, and people can feel free to ship them if they want to. But to me, they fall under the category described in the discord that you have shared: their friendly intimacy does not necessarily signify anything romantic. Even their journey into the West together does not have to be a romantic thing; I see it as Gimli not wanting to say goodbye to any more of his friends, after losing Merry, Pippin, and Aragorn, and instead going on one last adventure with his soul-brother Legolas.
Frodo and Sam, however, have always stood out to me as being different from all the other friendships in LOTR. I didn’t even take any pause in the fact that they’re both male. I just saw two people in love. It’s just in how they are written, and in Elijah and Sean’s beautiful performances. I totally agree that ANY interpretation of their relationship is valid. I think it is very wrong for any shipper of these two to insult or declare someone “wrong” to see them as just friends. But it’s the same the other way around. It is unfair for non-shippers to hate on shippers. While the argument regarding Tolkien’s Catholicism is an understandable one, texts and characters do develop lives of their own over time. Texts are meant to be interpreted. Tolkien himself wrote that he did not want to enforce his own beliefs within the story, and instead preferred to leave it open to readers to apply their own views and perspectives to it. He basically was inviting us to make interpretations that deviate from his own. He may not have had sexuality in mind when he wrote this, but if he were alive, I very much doubt he’d be hypocritical enough to criticize people for doing the very thing he encouraged them to do, especially since he was smart enough to know that not every reader of his work was or would be Catholic, and thus may not see certain aspects the way he did.
The main, unchangeable, factual point about Frodo and Sam’s relationship is that they love each other. That’s it. They go from formal master and servant to two people who have been through hell and back together, and in the process, formed a bond that nobody else will ever understand. This point stands, whether their specific feelings for each other are platonic or romantic. To view them as lovers does not take away from or undermine the foundations of how Tolkien shaped their characters and the connection they build.
It also bothers me how those who criticize this ship use the word “gay.” Bear in mind, of course, that I’m not an actual member of the LGBT community, and I’m speaking based on my love for my many LGBT friends and relatives, and the efforts I’ve made to understand and empathize with this community, and to never be among those who hate people based on who they love. But I’ve learned enough by now to know that it is quite ignorant of people to truncate the idea of Frodo and Sam being in love as “they’re gay.” Sam is not gay, as shown by his love for Rosie. To ship Frodo and Sam is not to erase Rosie or pretend Sam doesn’t love her. Sam has the biggest heart of any fictional character I’ve ever seen, and I, like many shippers, don’t find it implausible that he has room enough in that heart to have two great loves.
On that note, I’ll now signify that in the text Frodo and Sam have many moments that no other pair of male characters have, which serve as actual potential evidence of a romance. It says in the text itself that he is “torn in two” between Frodo and Rosie. No other pair of male characters in LOTR has any moment like this. Aragorn does not feel torn between Arwen and his friends, for instance. Sam hesitating to marry Rosie if it means he can’t be near Frodo is a very unique detail that adds weight to this “ship.” Not to mention the way Sam strokes Frodo’s hand in Rivendell and blushes, or calls himself “your Sam,” or has a Romeo-like moment of falsely believing Frodo is dead, or longs for the touch of Frodo’s hand in the Tower of Cirith Ungol. Plus, don’t forget that in another of Tolkien’s writings, Elanor directly compares Sam losing Frodo to Celeborn losing his wife. Also, I and many others have described how Frodo and Sam’s story directly parallels that of two canon lovers, Beren and Lúthien. Again, platonic interpretations of all this are valid, but it’s important to remember that shippers are not making things up. We’re not saying or believing that Frodo and Sam are in love “because they’re cute”. There are many moments between them in the text that support this interpretation, not the least of which is a direct parallel to a canon romantic couple - and without context, many of their exchanges and moments could easily be seen in a romantic light. (Sam watching Frodo sleep and saying “I love him, whether or no,” and declaring his one wish after potentially completing the Quest alone is not to return to the Shire and Rosie, but to return to Frodo’s body and never leave him again … all these things are right there in the text. Merry and Pippin, Legolas and Gimli, Aragorn and Boromir, none of them have any moments like this.)
And Sam’s journey across the Sea does not have nearly as much ambiguity as Gimli’s. Gimli has more to gain by going than staying; to stay would be to be left alone with no family and no more Elves or hobbits around, while to go would be to stand by his best friend, see the woman he loves/deeply admires again (Galadriel), and not face any more goodbyes. He wouldn’t really lose anything by leaving with Legolas, only gain. Sam’s circumstances are completely different. He has many people in the Shire; 13 children and countless grandchildren who could take care of him. He could easily spend his last days peacefully living with Elanor and watching her children grow, as any old hobbit would typically do. To sail West would be to lose and permanently be separated from a countless number of loved ones. And though he was affected by the Ring as a Ring-bearer, he held it for a very brief time, short enough for it to not prevent him from having a normal life after the war. It cannot be easily assumed that the lasting effect of the Ring on him was so powerful that it made him happier to leave his family than to stay with them. Because what would be waiting for him in Valinor? Gimli had two people in Valinor to whom he was very close, Legolas and Galadriel, as opposed to no loved ones back in Middle-earth. But Sam had one person in Valinor to whom he was very close, Frodo, as opposed to dozens of loved ones back in Middle-earth. The fact that he chooses Frodo over his family, to live with Frodo rather than die with and rest beside Rosie, to see Frodo again rather than see his family as much as possible in his remaining days…is a major point worth considering, and another thing that adds a layer of credibility to the idea of shipping them.
So to sum it all up, to say “you just ship Frodo and Sam because you don’t know what friendship is, because you think they’re cute so they must want to sleep together” is a MASSIVE trivialization/oversimplification/misunderstanding and completely ignores the things I’ve just laid out, particularly the distinctions between their relationship and those of other male pairings in LOTR.
Ok, ramble time is over…Boy, I hope that made at least one lick of sense! Haha.

the thing about the hobbit is in the battle of the five armies where Thranduil tells Legolas to go find Aragorn...
Legolas says idk where to go, and then Thranduil is like hey there's this really nice dude you should go meet. His dad was awesome and he's a Dunedine so he'll live longer! Which is great if you're an immortal elf!!
It legitimately sounds like he's telling his son to go have a fling with a hot ranger to kill time. And Legolas' semi-confused facial expressions back this up. I'm not an aralas shipper but boy do I support you guys. this is so good.

Ok, the Haladriel shipper in me wants to believe Sauron sent Aragorn that vision of Arwen dying in RotK, not to taunt him, but MOTIVATE him. The small part of goodness that remained in the All-Seeing Eye didn't want his only granddaughter to loose her chance of happiness with her beloved (like he lost his with Galadriel), and he also wanted Aragorn to be worthy of her. As proud as our Dark Lord is, there's no way he would have wanted Arwen with a mere ranger. If she's going to "bind herself" to a mortal, he better at least be the High King of Gondor and have a magical sword. Grandpa Sauron was like "Boy, show me you can do more than run around forests and talk to horses. My little princess deserves the best and you're not disgracing MY line" 🤣 🤣 🤣
I love this!!! :D This goes with so many things now I see differently re-reading the books and re-watching the movies.

Okay so I am very adhd and have like a ton of drafts started for some fanfic ideas and wanted to focus on one to start with, but I wanted to get peoples opinions because I’m also very indecisive! Below the cut I will explain each option I have that I’ve started to help!
Slight Spoiler warnings
Option 1: okay so this idea is inspired by mamuro-chiba-ua ‘s artwork here on tumblr, though I have seen other talk about in on here, but their artwork and Au made me start to wonder how being the uncle to Vivi would effect buggy! This would focus on buggy as he goes about his life and would be a cross guild (crocodile, mihawk, and buggy! )
Option 2: for whatever reason kaveh and Alhaitham give me the swan Princess vibes. So this story would follow kaveh as he is captured by Dori and given to a mysterious man who changes him into a paradisea by day, only allowing him to return to his human form at night to build for him. Can Alhaitham save him or will he be trapped forever ( featuring Tighnari, collei and Layla as the others trapped with Kaveh and also turned into animals, Cyno as Alhaitham friend and Faruzan as the overly annoyed and sarcastic advisor to Alhaitham )
Option 3: so this one could either be gigolas or aralas, both work and I am a multi shipper who loves both options! I could also tweak this and make it a throuple if anyone is interested in that. But basically I was a total band kid and feel like Legolas would be a color guard member. Now if I do Gimli, that boy is definitely a percussionist, and I would say I could see him in the drum line as a bass player. If it’s Aragorn, I am a little more torn on that, I could see Aragorn as either a low brass player or the drum major! Basically a fun marching band AU (specifically based on DCI (drum corps international) which goes to 21 so they would all be over the age of 18!)
Option 4: so I’ll set the stage. Bilbo is the lead in the local theater companies upcoming production of Les Miserables (could totally see him singing who am I, like the voice of the original Jean Val Jean just fits in my head). But oh no, Bilbo’s babysitter ( *cough cough* Gandalf) didn’t show up and now he has to bring baby frodo with him, but he has to practice. So he call Bofur, his friend from college to see if he could come to watch frodo while he’s performing. Bofur agrees easily, but is also currently dealing with a brooding Thorin after a really shitty date and decides to bring him with. Thorin isn’t thrilled, claiming to hate musicals and only like his metal and stuff he can play with the rest of the band, but sees Bofur won’t let it go and agrees to go. He goes right in time to watch Bilbo practice the who am I song and just is like damn. Basically meet cute here and then just follows their life from there with all of life’s up and downs (plus cute little kids with frodo, fili and kili)
Option 5: okay so shanks and buggy give off like such ex energy, and I just love the idea of they got like married real young and got divorced a year or 2 later because they both wanted different things, but they are forced together like 20 years later (either a job, event, taking care of roger who is sick, something like that) and being to fall in love again!
Option 6: so I feel like this is pretty self explanatory. Basically I have begun taking both the hobbit and lotr and putting them into the star wars universe! The hobbit would include ships like bagginshield and lotr would include ships like samfro, Aragorn x Arwen, and gigolas!
But yeah feel free to answer the poll and comment or pop into my inbox with any questions!

You know for a fact that with different match-ups the semi finalists would have been Aragorn x Arwen, Doctor x Rose, Gomez x Morticia, and Westley x Buttercup. The fact that you've already pitted them against eachother in and before the quarter finals feels like a rigged bracket...
i wanted to see tenrose and westercup die. is that what you want me to say? i wanted to string tenrose and westercup shippers along and lead them like lambs to their elimination slaughter. i was the puppetmaster controlling the strings behind the arawen tenrose neck and neck battle and i knew the whole time that arawen would come out on top. is that the confession you're looking for? what do you want man we're just some funny little guys running a silly little ship bracket and we're about to go on vacation; do you really think we have the time or intimate knowledge of human behavior and fandom popularity to rig a poll on purpose? c'mon.

Shipper Tag Game
Tagged by @seiya-starsniper <3
What ship were you completely obsessed with as a teenager, but now you don't care about anymore?
I don’t think there are any actually! I’m pretty consistent and will usually circle back to a ship every couple of years 😊
Which ship would you consider your first one?
This is tough, I don’t think I actually remember. Though I think last time I answered this question I mentioned Lord of the Rings because of Aragorn/Arwen
Your first fanfic was about which couple?
My secret anon identity means I can’t answer this honestly – but the first one I’ve written without being anonymous is Corintheus
Do you remember the first couple you saw fan art of?
Long long time ago so not quite sure actually, might be a ship from Harry Potter
Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?
Nope! I try and stay away from it—though I never hide my opinions, I just don’t really engage too much in ship discourse. People are always going to have differing opinions over pairings, and I’ve seen it get very ugly in fandom spaces.
Did you use to have any NOTP or have one currently?
Oh I have a fair few, but usually they are ships I was previously neutral about. Some of them are also things I've previously shipped. My NOTPs are pretty much all results of a not so pleasant fandom experience, so I don’t really talk a lot about what they are. I’m a multishipper so the only time I actually have a NOTP is when a ship is overwhelmingly represented in a way that I just can’t get on board with.
Who were the last couple in the last fanfic you read?
Corintheus 😊 which is definitely what I’m most known for haha, so probably not a surprise
Currently, do you have any OTPs?
As I said…I am a multishipper, and I’ve never really had an OTP. It’s not a concept I really resonate with? Especially with fanfic because for me it’s all about the exploration of possibilities, and I can very much ship multiple things at once. I care more about interesting/well executed characterisation and well written relationship dynamics.
Is there any couple that, to this day, that you are extremely mad about not getting into?
Not really, because if I’m not into a ship in at least some way (or neutral/open to the possibility) then there is usually a very, very good reason.
Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they're kind of interesting?
Hmm. Maybe Desire/Unity? But it’s not that I ever really disliked them, more that there are some obvious consent issues within it that initially made me not really consider the ship too closely. The more I see others exploring it the more I’ve found them interesting 😊
Do you have any ship that, in the past, would have been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
I don’t think so actually! Though I’m probably forgetting something
What is your favourite crack ship?
Ooh I’ve read a lot of bizarre stuff. Hmm. It might have to be a certain ship that @writing-for-life introduced me to (if you know what I’m talking about it will need no further explanation haha)
What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?
I’m still anon in a lot of fandoms so I can’t actually answer this question too honestly. I haven’t actually been reading that much recently (very focused on writing at the moment)
What do most of your ships have in common?
Equality…in some fashion they are each other’s match. Which sounds like a strange thing to say for Corintheus but it doesn’t necessarily have to be in physical strength/power.
I also ship a fair few ‘enemies to lovers’ ships. Probably for the above reason! It’s the intimacy of it I think. Also the complexity, I like ships where the dynamic is compelling but not necessarily easy to pull off in a fic, because that usually means more thought is put into the execution of it. If that makes sense? And I am very much all about the execution when I read/write.
What do you absolutely hate in a ship?
Butchering characterisation just to play out a binary sex dynamic. Mostly this presents as overt feminisation of the one character who is designated to be ‘weaker’ for reasons both untrue and usually very offensive. Which sounds harsh but it’s something I utterly despise. Folded into this is also one character ‘fixing’ the other character, especially when this involves that character giving up something important/integral to who they are. I see it so much in published fiction as well and it’s just not for me at all.
I also really don’t like it when unhealthy behaviours are romanticised (usually to ‘fix’ one character) or miscommunication when it’s not something silly like accidentally buying your partner the wrong type of coffee because you were so tired you misheard a word.

First and foremost I should make clear that I'm a fervent Halbrand/Galadriel shipper. :-) But I thought it might be interesting to take a look at the ship from the point of view of the lore.
We know now Galadriel is already married in the show. She believes Celeborn to be dead, but we know he is not (whether he suffers from amnesia, is imprisoned somewhere, or is, indeed, dead, and will be resurrected, is a mystery for now).
So, unless the writers ignore the lore, her potential romance with Halbrand presents huge complications. It did even before we had learned her marriage had already happened, and it is not something that happens in the future, but now it's even more complicated.
Because according to the lore, Elves only love once. Tolkien's essay on this subject (Laws and Customs Among the Eldar) can be found in Morgoth's Ring.
I have now finally read that essay, but will share a summary a friend of mine shared with me when I asked her about it, because she worded it better than I ever would.
"Elves can only love once. Sexual union and marital union are the same act. It's what makes Finwë so interesting because usually the generational power and desire fades given elves pour their actual feä (soul) into their children, but when his wife had Fëanor and said, ‘Never again shall I bear child; for strength that would have nourished the life of many has gone forth into Fëanor.’, he still desired to produce more. And when she essentially died, the Valar had to be consulted on if he could remarry, because elven souls, unlike those of men, are tied to Arda itself. So your spouse is your spouse through death and resurrection. Elves might dwell in the House of Mandos for a time, but they can't truly die. Their feär will be returned to their restored hröar (bodies). It is also why they don't experience lust as men do, don't age the same way, and can heal hurts men can't, they have a much more direct and intentional control over their feär."
Boo.
It is still possible Halbrand falls in love with her, but it will be one-sided only. Of course, it's not what I wish for, but it's one of the options.
From what we've seen so far I'd say she definitely has some feelings for him, but the writers are quite clever about it, so the most poignant scene they have together (after the battle) has several possible interpretations.
So, what do you think?
Also... does he end up tragically? I keep thinking he is not Sauron, and everything pointing to that direction is the writers having delightful fun at our expense. He could become a Ringwraith, or the king of the dead... or simply die heroically (or not). With him being Aragorn-who-is-not-Aragorn, the king of the dead sounds as the most probable option.
I still hope against hope he and Galadriel will get some happy time together. Whether is will be platonic, or they will at least kiss, or go further.
Whatever happens, I want him to live for all five seasons! ❤
Oh, the agony of being a shipper!

Shipper Tag Game
I was tagged by @ginoeh , thank you so much!
And also: I’m notoriously bad at doing these and still have many, many in my inbox I will eventually get round to answering (thanks to everyone still waiting), but I thought I can do this one since it will be a lot easier to write off the cuff because:
I don’t really ship; I don’t find it particularly interesting, sorry 🤣
Having said this, I’ll still try to answer the questions, so here goes…
What ship were you completely obsessed with as a teenager, but now you don’t care about anymore?
I don’t think I was ever obsessed with any ship, not even as a teenager, because I tend to like characters and their stories, but I don’t really ship them other than what’s already in canon. So very mildly, maybe Batman/Bruce Wayne and Catwoman/Selina Kyle because they never truly ended up with each other? But even that one was meh…
Which ship would you consider your first one?
Hm, again, too mildly too really care, but maybe Aragorn and Arwen from LOTR?
Your first fanfic was about which couple?
Written: Erm, despite having been a writer for aeons, I only wrote my first fanfic in 2022, and that was an OC x canon. So if we’re looking at canon x canon, it was Johanna Constantine x Rachel Moodie/Sandman.
Read: I’ve honestly no idea and can’t truly remember, but I’m fairly certain it must have been a Batman one.
Do you remember the first couple you saw fan art of?
Fairly certain it was Bruce and Selina.
Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?
When I was a teenager, people were fighting over whether Bruce/Selina or Bruce/Talia were the OTP, but we weren’t terminally online, so ship discourse in this disproportionate, unhinged way wasn’t really a thing. I stayed out of it back then and still stay out of it now because I think everyone is free to like whatever they like. I have opinions that I occasionally voice, but that’s rather about general fandom trends (misogyny drives me up the wall) than specific ships. So as long as no one tries to ram their ship down my throat, it’s all good.
Did you used to have a NOTP or have one currently?
No ship is generally NOTP, but the way some people ship can be annoying. I have to admit that Dreamling has started to get on my nerves a bit. Not because I have a general problem with the ship or people who like it (many of my mutuals do), but rather because it’s everywhere, it’s hard to filter, and certain people need to make every discussion—also the ones that have zilch to do with it—about it and literally claim every corner of the fandom.
I don’t mind if people ship them though, I just don’t constantly want to get bombarded with it. So I guess what I’m trying to say is: Have your fun with it, but leave other people who don’t like it out of it, and stop constantly encroaching on creators to make it “real”, and above all: Stop inboxing people hurtful crap. In short: Don’t be an entitled arse with OTP goggles about it.
Who were the last couple in the last fanfic you read?
Dream x Calliope/Sandman.
Currently, do you have any OTPs?
Yup, the one I’m writing, which is a canon x OC pairing, sorry. Other than that, I don’t. I usually can’t get over why pairings don’t work in canon, hence I write OCs. And if they work out in canon, they already have everything they need, so I don’t feel particularly tickled to write about them. It’s sadly how my brain works. The only ones that currently get remotely close are Dream x Calliope (because of second chances) and Dream x Johanna (because they’ll be a complete fuck-up, but in an interesting way). But I still wouldn’t consider them OTPs.
Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting into?
That question doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but maybe I’m missing something? If I can’t get into it, it’s for a reason, and that’s not a loss or something to get mad over…
Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they’re kind of interesting?
Nope.
Do you have any ship that, in the past, would have been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
No because again: I don’t really ship. Unless it’s a =>
What is your favourite crack ship?
I am one of the main instigators of “Murphy and His Cool Hat”, so of course it has to be Dream x Helm.
What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?
None in particular. I either like the tone of something or I don’t. It’s probably easier for me to say what I don’t read/tend to avoid…
What do most of your ships have in common?
Byronic men who are shit communicators 🤣
What do you absolutely hate in a ship?
Nothing outright? I can get behind a lot of tropes if they’re crafted well, the plot is solid and the writing is good. If I had to pick one thing it’s power-over-dynamics. I abhor them in real life, and I don’t feel a massive desire to write them or read about them (as in: specifically seek for them or make them part of the plot myself). But even so, I have read fics with such dynamics and it didn’t massively bother me because the story and writing were good. Another thing I’m not massively keen on is enemies to lovers and/or lots of forced arguments just so people can angry-fuck. But hate is a strong word—again, if the story is well crafted and that’s not the only thing that’s going on, I wouldn’t drop a story just because of that.
I'm no-pressure tagging @rey-jake-therapist (shipping, friend, it’s about shipping 🤣), @marlowe-zara, @tickldpnk8 if you want to, or maybe just point me towards your post if you've done it already?

Hello! i saw the ask game and i wanted to ask your opinions about my best guy Theoden!
Love your blog!
<3 <3 hello hello! Yess, he is the best!
First impression
I always loved him. It's the soft dad vibes that he gives off in the film and I always transposed those onto book version of Theoden as well, even if they aren't as front-and-centre.
Impression now
As you all know I have a soft spot for imperfection and Theoden is very much an imperfect leader who is trying his damndest in an impossible situation.
I love his fear of being like his ancestors (sure "lesser son of greater sires" but in the immediate memory Fengel and Thengel weren't anything to write home about and I'm sure Theoden had the "don't be like your grandfather" running in his head), which is a nice parallel to Aragorn's own fears and concerns. That certain weaknesses are "inherited" or you're somehow doomed to repeat the failings of your forefathers.
I also really appreciate Theoden's practicality and realism. This is definitly shown way more in the books than in the films.** But he is so pragmatic and realistic about what is happening and has a strong, stable workman-like air to his leadership as king and general. It's very grounding and a nice compliment to the high fantasy that is happening around them all.

**I have Views & Opinions on what PJ did with Theoden in the films in relation to Aragorn
Favorite moment
In the movies, I love all of his speeches. My favourite, favourite scene is "but do you trust your king/where is the horse and the rider" bit with Gamling. Second up are the paralleling scenes of "I know your face" with Eowyn. Soft dad vibes <3 <3
In the book, I naturally have my favourite scene is when he's missing Grima and having those complex feelings of "I'm angry at this man for what he has done and his betrayal, while at the same time I'm grieving the relationship we used to have/the man he once was." It's so very human.
I just love Theoden's deep humanity. A feature so often missing in the race of Man who are usually more High Arthurian, for lack of a better way to phrase it. Not that the likes of Aragorn and Faramir don't have their deeply human moments, they for sure do, but Theoden is consistently the most deeply human of the leaders, aside from Denethor, and I really like that.
Idea for a story
There's a part of me that's a secret Theoden/Grima shipper, so you know. Anything utterly tragic in that department with some bittersweet hope(?) at the end. Kill me where our love hurts most, my liege.
Otherwise, I would love an exploration of Theoden and his father's relationship and how he positions himself within the frame of his father and grandfather's legacy. Also his changing views on what it means to be Rohirrim - considering I am sure he has a complex relationship with that. He's more comfortable in Westron and Sindarin than the language of his own people! That's got to have some complexity to it.
Unpopular opinion
I'm not sure I have one on Theoden? I feel like most of my opinions are pretty par for the course.
Favorite relationship
Definitly Eowyn. I love the father-daughter vibe happening with them. I wish we saw more of it.
Favorite headcanon
When Theoden adopted Eomer and Eowyn he went around to everyone in Meduseld apologising in advance. People were like "?? your niece and nephew seem charming and lovely ??" and Theoden was like "ok but you don't understand: They are the Children of Eomund. This is going to be INSANE."
He always loved them, of course, but they were little terrors. You know that dual thing of dealing with grief of losing parents/being orphaned at a young age and how that can lead to lashing out plus natural peronalities being on the fiery side.
Theoden just like, put everyone on High Alert.
(lol Grima would have been like mid-late twenties and Theoden is like: New Guy, do you like children? And Grima is all: Abso-fucking-lutely not. Why? Theoden: No reason. Gamling, I was wrong, we can't put the new guy on baby-sitting duties.)

Thank you!!! Theoden is just, ah, one of my top tier faves. And thank you, I'm glad you enjoy my wee lil' tumblr :D
