I feel like the "put Minor X/Y in the additional tags to avoid relationship tag clutter with side-pairings" isn't a great solution for a number of reasons, even though I am doing my best to switch to that when tagging.

How minor is minor? If it's not in the story as such but it's important for the character's motivations, for instance? I feel like a lot of people will interpret this as "the pairing is mentioned in passing" but between that and "this is the main pairing" lies many many options.

Nobody's going to filter for this sort of tag which will put people off using it, and while I am told this The Correct Way To Tag it's not common enough that people will know to filter it out.

Some people just don't read Additional Tags. This is their mistake/problem but since the purpose of this method of tagging pairings is only to help people avoid them (see above re nobody using this to find fics) it's more likely I'll get offended OTPers this way.

No but really what are we counting as minor? This is worth repeating.

My limited experience with this method has found that it's trickier for me to check my own Works to see how often I've written this or that pairing. AO3 filtering is AND not OR, so I can't bring up "X/Y, or any time I've put X/Y in Additional Tags in case there's not enough of it in the story to satisfy anyone looking for that pairing and only that pairing." This is a minor me-problem but it still puts me off a bit.

I don't have a better option though, so whatever I suppose🤷‍♀️It largely comes down to the issue of "am I tagging for people to find or for people to exclude?" that exists in theory for every tag but is mostly only a problem/dilemma when it comes to pairings.

Is it just fanfiction or do you believe that Thor has these rude moments with Jane? I can't imagine, he touches her as if she were the most fragile thing in the world, I don't see him being like that with others. Not even in the first movie, when he didn't even like her. Not even in the second movie, when she hits him.

But the relationship montage shows them fighting, doesn't it? And he is the instigator. So, even though you and I believe he would never hurt her, the movie showed clear as day that he deliberately and constantly hurt her that it made her give up on him:

That's him having rude moments with her. Something would have happened to get to this point, right? Which the movie doesn't show, implying he is consciously hurting her for no reason. I don't like that at all.

So I wrote it this way, that he UNINTENTIONALLY hurt her by externalizing his fears of losing her on her in the worst ways. I mean even when he's that drunk, he still touches her softly (his control had slipped). He wasn't fighting with her, just saying the things he can't keep in anymore.

That's just how I perceived it. It's still fanfic, not canon. Canon is what Waititi gets to write about Thor, like him wanting to bang his weapons, or hurting Jane for no reason. I'm just trying to make it make sense for myself.

I do think thor is being honest about how he thought the world of loki, but never enough to really look, to truly see his brother. never cared enough to dig deeper. and the mistakes loki made have just made it easier for thor to further ignore the deeper problems with his brother. you can love someone dearly, but still never truly see them. I wonder if knowing of thor's love makes it better or worse for loki. to be so loved, but for it to still not be enough to have been seen, to have been helped at all. or easier for it to be a lie and never loved at all, for it makes more sense to loki, because if you loved him why would you never dig deeper? why could you not see what was wrong? what was being done to him? how he felt? maybe that's why he was so adamant in the past, brushing thor's words away because otherwise that would mean even then it just wasnt enough. and it's more familiar to him too. the feeling he sits in, the knowledge that he's not loved or understood, that those around him think so little of him. and sometimes familiarity is easier than taking a new and brighter path.

he could be more. but it's hard to do that when everyone around you sees the worst in you and your stuck in a shadow your entire life. ignored. it's why I love mobius so much. he sees what others don't in loki and actually pushes him to be better and is there for him. mobius is truly the number one loki apologist.

Fair warning, I am absolutely going to gatekeep Jane Foster. I was fine when Wanda gained such a huge fanbase post-WandaVision because she was so underserved by the plot before, so having been a fan since 2014/15 (whenever they announced the twins being in AoU and we started getting behind-the-scenes promo) it’s great to see her being so popular now. It’s just people seeing how awesome she’s been all along. But no, you do not get to come in and say you love Jane now that she’s Thor/has powers if you’re also a person who has ignored her existence for years or said that she’s boring and useless and “not Thor’s equal” because she can’t fight.

This includes Feige and Waititi and their stupid sexist comments, women (or any people!) don’t have to be physical fighters to be badass. Jane has been badass and amazing the entire time because she’s an astrophysicist and loves science and is endlessly curious. Those are the traits that A. got her a Nobel prize, B. let her help save the world with science, C. are the reasons Thor fell in love with her in the first place.

I absolutely love Jane as Thor in comics, but the reason she’s so incredible is not because she fights her enemies with the powers of a god, but because she does that while being human. That is quite literally the entire point of her story.
