Chaos and Order
I’m so filled with love right now, I don’t know what to do with it. So here’s a little something I could pour what I feel into. I timed myself for 15 minutes and wrote this, haven’t read it once, haven’t editted, nothing. Fresh first draft here for you.
“Evans,” calls out James more to himself than actually calling her. It makes her think that maybe, he loves saying her name just as she loves saying his.
“Potter?” she responds and the little jolt in her veins as she hears his name is something she can’t miss.
“Just checking to see if you were alive,” he says nonchalantly, although there’s a slight smirk threatening to form on his lips. “You haven’t moved in hours.”
“Very funny,” she scoffs playfully. “Some of us actually work to get work done. Unlike you.”
“I’m just going to pretend you didn’t say that.”
And they fell into that silence once again. It was comfortable silence, at least it felt so to her. It was her and him, Lily and James, Evans and Potter, however you named it – amidst swirling smells of parchment, ink, and spilt hibiscus tea. Lily didn’t like these ephemeral silences they had. It was in moments like these that she thought, that maybe, maybe this was what it was like to be in love. Quiet, amidst smells filling your senses, and the silent thumping of two hearts.
She looks at him, stealthily because he shouldn’t be seeing her seeing him. He really shouldn’t for as he teases her, goads her, and asks her questions she’d rather not answer now, really. She decides then, like all those countless times in the Heads Common Room that she can never get tired of looking at him. He is still in his uniform, and why he loved wearing that wretched thing she didn’t know. Though in uniform, the shirt hung on his shoulders loosely its first button undone and the tie loosely hanging around the collar of his shirt as though it had long given up trying to make him look prim and proper.
But that was the thing about James. James Potter was not someone to bother too much about how polished his shoes were, or whether he had buttoned his shirt wrong, or whether he’s worn the same socks on both feet. If anything, he might even be putting effort to be what he is – disorder, and chaos. A beautiful one at that. He always looked like he was in peace with himself, happy to be wearing his skin.
She realises then, today, for the first time. Lily Evans was chaos and order, just like James. But she was chaos in, and order out. He was the very opposite. Maybe that’s what pulled her to him. Maybe that’s what will pull them both together, tie them in place, keep them tangled and caged within each other. He catches her eyes now, and she doesn’t turn away. This time she keeps her gaze on him, his eyes. He grins, pleased. She knows then, she realises a lot of things then. But they’re all too hard to put it down into words because now it’s only just green and hazel, and oh the smell of parchment, ink, and spilt hibiscus tea.

Hello
I was wondering which of your stories have a desi James?
hello!! almost all of my fics include a desi james (half, on euphemia's side) even when not mentioned explicitly (though there's usually some mention of brown skin). the one exception, off the top of my head, is Take Two, where james is half-greek and white.
however, a fic where I explicitly refer to/incorporate james's indianness is You're Worth Splinching For, in which he is half-Marathi! despite me not being Marathi LOL
EDIT: another one that totally slipped my mind is this drabble with james as an indian immigrant!
one of these days I will write something in which I can properly explore his identity as indian! and when I do, you best believe I'll never shut up about it!
until then, I recommend these amazing fics by authors who wrote desi!James:
blink three times by @thequibblah (and other assorted fics by her including the 700k word epic Come Together, for which this is an extra w/ negligible spoilers)
Nine Days - an adorable Navaratri WIP by @alstroemeriablack
everything by aheartcalledhome (including the "rewrite potter" series in which it's HP but jily lives and james is indian) but especially on james potter and his impeccable singing voice, which legit made me cry
although I have not read this yet, apparently @fetchalgernon and @ghostofbambifanfiction have written James in (The Completely Unwilling Participants on) The Bachelor as Indian!
tamilprongspotter and mashallahmangoes if you can find their work anywhere
bonn's Everybody Needs A Nervy B Now And Then, also have not read b4 but will read asap!
october31st1981 on FFnet and prongsmydeer on tumblr! there are a bunch of drabbles not on her FFnet on her tumblr
the lovely @jilyism and @alittlebitofeverything23, AKA mi and shreya!
As you can see, there are LOTS of fantastic authors who write an Indian James! Please shower their writing with love!
If you have written Indian James or know fics that have it, PLEASE put the links in the reblogs! Maybe this can become an Indian James masterlist 😂

Never Saw You Coming (Never Be The Same)
Summary: Carried you back to the dorms 3 months ago because you were drunk and you accidentally professed your love to me and I fell for you. It’s 3AM in the dead of winter and someone pulled the fire alarm off because of their god-awful cooking and I’m being very vocal about how I’m gonna make her pay
Written mainly for my amusement. But then, the second part of the fic coincided with a @jilychallenge prompt, so… yeah. Thank you to @startanewdream and @majormaybe1 for helping me out with this fic a lot! And to @thequibblah for coming up with the title. She’s a title genius. You heard it first from me. And thank you to @alstroemeriablack for just being so supportive with this fic
Partner: @oyevans
🥳🥳 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ADENEI 🥳🥳!!! I hope you like this little mess of a fic!
He hates Sirius Black.
Well, he legally can’t—thanks to a stupid sixteen year old James— but, it’s not like he’s going to put it on paper anyway. Just his mind.
The loud noise of the music blasting from the stereo blares in James’s ears. The darkness, not allowing to see to the point where he thinks he needs new glasses.

Excerpt from my Jily WIP
In which James and Lily meet on a train to Puducherry. Only moments before this excerpy begins, they realise they've basically been going to the same college.
“You don’t follow cricket?”
“No,” she said carefully. “I watch it on TV. As in, The World Cup, or the ODIs. The cricket matches in college often clash with my classes and tests so I’ve never watched one. You play for the team, yeah?”
“Yes,” he said. “I can’t believe there’s someone who doesn’t watch us play. I thought the entire university watched. It’s no different from a World Cup Tournament.”
“I should definitely watch then,” she agreed. “Hopefully I will be able to.”
“Yeah, it’s loads of fun,” he’d folded his legs in too. “None of your friends watch?”
“Oh no,” she said smiling fondly at the mention of her friends. “They’re all huge fans. Especially for the captain guy. They’re always talking about how much of a star he is and all. James Potter’s his name I hear. Your in his team, yeah?”
“You could say that,” he said drawled out.
“If you’re in the team,” Lily calculated. “I probably will recognise your name. What is your name?”
“James Potter,” he said and she could see how he was trying not to sound too smug about it.
To be continued....

Amortentia - A Jily Oneshot
Summary - No, James does not get Sirius to say something stupid so they’d have a switch of positions because obviously Slughorn would put either one of them with Lily. Any one of them would do, really.
Well I loved writing this as I was writing it and now that it’s all done with I can’t bare to even read it once again or edit it so here it is. James and Lily brewing Amortentia together in 7th Year potions class.
Lily Evans, 7th Year student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Head Girl was pleased to say that she was perfectly normal thank you very much. Except, at the moment she was sure her skin was a darker shade of red than her hair and her heart was beating frantically inside her ribcage threatening to fall out. It reminded her of one of those fishes that she’d watched as a little girl when her father fished them out of the waters right onto the mud where they would beat their fins on the floor thudding loudly until, they stopped.
“Yes, of course Miss Evans,” said Professor Slughorn beaming widely at her. “Would you please tell us all how you identified the potion?”
“Yes, Sir,” she said trying to keep a straight face. “It was by its distinctive mother-of-pearl sheen and the steam rising in characteristic spirals. And not to forget, its smell.”
“Very well, very well,” said Professor Slughorn beaming widely at her. “10 points to Gryffindor. Now, before we begin brewing this incredibly powerful and dangerous potion, I might add, I need you all to understand very clearly that-”
And he went on about how ‘when you have seen as much of life as I have, you will not underestimate the power of obsessive love’ and the ill effects of Amortentia. Now again, Lily Evans 7th Year student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Head Girl was still very pleased to say that she was perfectly normal, thank you very much. For as if it were any other girl of her own age, in her position in all meaning of that word, they wouldn’t have been able to think straight. But here she was in a very normal state of mind, a very abnormal normal beating of her heart, a very abnormal normal flushing of her skin and a very normal feeling all over.
It didn’t take her long to recognise the scent that overtook her when she entered the dungeons this fine afternoon, the odd smells and its vapours that she was so fond of, the smell of parchment, and him. But that didn’t stop her from raising her hand when Professor Slughorn had asked the students to identify the potion whose smell was wafting across the dungeons much to the chagrin of the content and grinning N.E.W.T level students. That didn’t stop her from answering, without a stutter or stammer mind you, when Professor Slughorn asked her how she identified the potion correctly.
“Evans,” nudged an all too familiar voice from beside her. “Didn’t you hear him?”
“No,” she said. Because no, she wasn’t perfectly normal as she claimed to be. She was a witch for starters, and a completely mad one at that.
“Sorry, what?” said James looking a little confused. “You can tell him if you want to, you know. I would myself but he’d think I’m saying it just because I want to go back to Sirius.”
“Sorry, what?” she mimicked with all honesty. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening.”
“Day-dreaming are we, Evans?” said James with a smirk. “Slughorn teamed up you and me because Sirius gave away his masterplan of what he was going to do with the Amortentia we brew a little too loudly. Now he’s teamed with Peter instead.”
“How is that going to stop him from doing whatever he wants to do?” she asked back knowing the answer very well, at least now she felt herself regaining her composure.
“By all means,” began James and gave a dry chuckle whilst running his hand through his hair. “I think it would be very fitting if he’d join you instead. I mean, it only makes sense. Head Girl Evans and Sirius Black. Nothing could possibly go wrong.”
“You happen to be Head Boy, James.” she said and she now lost count of how many times she had to remind this boy that he was in fact Head Boy and that they weren’t very different from each other. He took his duties seriously of course, but sometimes, many times, he needed slight reminding.
“Will remember, -” he began but was abruptly cut off by Professor Slughorn who came and stood by them.
“Is there a problem Lily? James?” he asked eyeing the two head students and looking down at the empty cauldron in front of them. “Everyone’s already beginning.”
“Sir,” began James when realisation hit Lily. “We were just talking about how Sirius should be-”
“How WE should be beginning soon,” cut in Lily. “We were just talking about how we were to be going on about our potion.”
“Very well, very well,” said Professor Slughorn clearly satisfied. “It is of course of utmost importance to plan your potion before you begin concocting it.”
And with that, he was off to the front of the classroom proud and beaming at the struggling students.
“I thought you just said no,” said James drily.
“For something completely different,” she clarified. “Come on now, we’ll have to begin soon if we don’t want to be left behind.”
And so, they began. Lily dropped in the Ashwinder egg carefully as James carefully took out the rose thorns and dropped them in too. In went the peppermint oil and the moonstone and here they were completely oblivious to how much time had passed by as Lily carefully stirred the potion and James joked about the recent prank of the Marauders. They of course weren’t involved in anything to do with fishes and paints and colours and the ceilings of one particular classroom. Just when he was recalling how they had retrieved paint from a Something from Somewhere, Lily smelt it before she saw it.
There were spirals wafting slowly from the cauldron and James seemed to have noticed to for as he stopped talking and looked appreciatively at the cauldron. Lily stirred the potion once more and took in the feeling of the scent as it slowly wafted into her nostrils, right up her nose as it intoxicated her brain and spread into her blood and veins. Smiling slightly to herself, she looked up at James and stepped aside motioning for him to take a smell. She watched him as he grinned at her and said ‘Our potion Evans, I can’t believe it’s this easy!’ and took a long intake of the potion. She watched him as the smell overtook him, his body changing ever so slightly seeming to become divine as he took in the feeling of whatever, and maybe whomever he loved.
“If not for Lily Evans and James Potter,” came the loud voice of Professor Slughorn from the far-left end of the dungeons. “It is of course, Amortentia! Perfectly brewed, both of you. Thirty points to Gryffindor for your commendable work.”
“Thank you, Professor,” said James grinning widely at Professor Slughorn looking quite pleased with himself.
Lily gave Professor Slughorn a wide smile.
“Now, now,” he began as the entire class turned silent after their clapping and cheering and Lily was sure she heard some hooting and wolf-whistling, some that were directed at them somehow from where Sirius stood, something he’d be getting a nice telling off from her later on. “Can the two of you tell us what you smelled? You need not, of course if it’s personal. Miss Evans?”
“Sir,” she began stalling some time. Now you see, this was one of those moments when you are suddenly confronted with the truth and you’re not sure if you can trust your mouth to see if it will co-operate with the ill, pathetic and lying excuse of a brain you have. “I smell parchment, vapours of our classroom and,”
James. She used this time to clear her throat.
               “Coffee.”
“Ah, lovely Miss Evans,” said Professor Slughorn beaming proudly. “Don’t we all love the smell of fresh coffee! Mister Potter?”
“Sir,” began James grinning broadly. Lily took this time to glance at Emmeline Vance’s cauldron that looked extremely interesting today, ah, the fine material and the fine black colour whilst of course, paying stern attention to what James was saying.
“Leather, the smell of soil after rain and,” here he paused for effect looking around at the anxious eyes and excited faces of everyone who were watching him. “Coffee.”
“Brilliant, Mr. Potter,” said Professor Slughorn. “I smell Coffee when I look into my Amortentia too. Now students, if you brew your potion correctly, you will be able to smell those things you obviously love and no Mr. Curran, I’m not going to lift the lid of my potion and nor will Miss Evans and Mister Potter.”
Lily took a seat back and hoped she wasn’t flushing bright red or anything of that sort. Her heart was now again, doing all sorts of spectacles inside her ribcage and she wouldn’t mind having it beat one last time like the fin of the particularly greyish fish she’d watched her father catch last summer and then stop.
“Coffee, eh?” said James making her jump out of her mid-day trance. “I reckon half of this class will end up smelling coffee in their Amortentia. Quite the smell, innit?”
“Yes,” she said putting her potions book into her bag slowly as ever. “Yes.”
“Now, Lily-flower,” began James and of all these seven years she’s known James Fleamont Potter, every time he began some sentence with the word ‘Lily-flower’, the end results weren’t all that nice for both of them. That is, a nice hex James’ way and a sleepless, complaining night for Lily and her roommates. “Wasn’t it only yesterday that you so politely were disinclined to acquiesce to Moony’s request to try drink some coffee?”
               Right.
               Right.
“I suppose,” he continued again and though Lily fiddled with the insides of her bag, she could feel him smirking. “You had also mentioned how its smell was ‘sickening’ and makes you ‘want to pluck your nose out’?”
               Right.
Right.
“I mean,” James continued as though her silence was cue for ‘Go on’. “Coffee. It’s a euphemism isn’t it? For ‘the utterly handsome and good-looking man standing right next to me who also happens to be my fellow Head.”
               Right.
               Right.
This now again, was one of those moments when your brain wants to do something but your hands, your legs or like in the case of Lily Evans, the neck wasn’t very well under the control of it. Much to her disappointment, she felt her neck tear away from the bag to look straight at James Potter.
“Right of course,” he said smiling as he put his scales and books back into his bag. “Where handsome becomes beautiful and man becomes woman for me.”
Before she could come up with a retort or something cleverer to say, she was standing stupidly staring at the head of James Potter who was making his way out of the dungeons amidst the other students, hopping and whistling to himself. When exactly the bell rang, Lily wasn’t sure. But she knew one thing and she’d stay by it all long. Lily Evans, 7th Year student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Head Girl was perfectly normal and slightly in love. (And denial).

Lovely Plants
Read on AO3
Summary:  Lily's plant grows until James' balcony. She stops by to ask them to drop the creeper down. Of course James doesn't want to do that. They talk. They're meeting each other. Muggle Neighbours AU. They're awkward and cute.
The news about the arrival of the new residents of the apartment spread among the already existing ones like wildfire. It wasn’t too long before it reached Lily Evans and her flatmate Marlene McKinnon. Now, Lily wasn’t too interested in the affairs of who came when and where and why but Marlene definitely was. That was the only reason why Lily listened as Marlene went on about the new residents, mind you. She wasn’t interested that much. Not even slightly. Really.
It’s a family of three – a mother, a father and their only son. He had a couple of friends that popped by then and now. They own a dog with a name Marlene forgot, they’re all quite amicable, and the friends are funny. That was all Lily knew about the Potters as she stood in front of their door ready to ring the bell.
Now Lily wasn’t one of those people that invited themselves over to their neighbours houses as and when they pleased for a cup of tea or a quick chat. If you’ve come across people such as that, my deepest and most sincere regards and well wishes for your kind heart that didn’t do anything rash. If you did something rash now that’s a story I’d like to hear someday. Now back to Lily.
No, Lily wasn’t one of them. Lily hoped she didn’t come across as one of them. She was only a little anxious. Just a little bit. Maybe slightly more. She had lost count of how many times she had considered going back home. But there was no point now for as she had rung the bell and heard its ringing and heard the door open and it did open.
In front of her stood a slightly short, slightly stout woman who had dark black hair with hints of grey peeking in between. She had an inviting smile plastered across her face and seemed genuinely excited upon Lily’s arrival. The thought of that seemed to calm Lily’s nerves and she didn’t feel too anxious about meeting these new people. The kind woman gestured her into the flat and Lily obliged.
The apartment was an exact replica of hers, except it looked newer and much more elegant. Lily’s flat was an aesthetically pleasing mess of flowers, books and clothes. This place was exactly like those houses on the interior design portfolios she had tossed aside on grounds of expense.
“It won’t be too long before you begin resenting this place,” said the woman. “I say you take a good look now.”
“Sorry Ma’am,” said Lily quite highly embarrassed now. All the anxiety that left seemed to surge through her body once more. “I’m here only to-”
“Ah no, dear,” said the woman moving to capture Lily’s hands in hers. “I mean to say that it won’t be too long before my son and his friends make a complete mess out of this home. I’m going to miss how pretty it looks now.”
“Oh,” said Lily calming down a little bit. The woman gave an amiable laugh and Lily followed.
“I’ll get you some sweets,” she announced. “Come on in.”
“No, Ma’am,” Lily began.
“Yes, Euphemia,” said Lily.
“What is it that brings you here?” Euphemia asked as she emptied the contents of a sweet box onto a silver plate. Lily tried to protest over the amount of sweets that had been laid out on the plate but decided against it. “Not that you are not welcome dear. I believe I still don’t know your name?”
“Lily,” she said. “Lily Evans. Thank you for having me. It isn’t too much but it’s just that I live downstairs and I grow plants. One of my plants, a creeper, found its way through my grills and reached the telephone wires. From my balcony it now reaches yours. If you don’t mind, I’d be grateful if you could just untwine the tendrils and drop it down. I’ll make sure my plants don’t trouble you again.”
Euphemia listened and once Lily was finished, she just looked at her simply.
“I can do it myself too if you’d like that,” Lily began to offer when Euphemia seemed to think it through.
“I don’t think there will be any need for that,” said a voice from behind.
There stood, Lily reckoned, the son. Lily didn’t think he was cute, or handsome, or good-looking. She most definitely did not think that he was all three. Her heart did not leap a little more than necessary when being frightened and interrupted all of a sudden. Really.
“My son,” clarified Euphemia a proud smile on her face. “James.”
“Hello,” said James grinning at Lily. “If you don’t mind, can I say something?”
Lily nodded for as she did not trust her mouth to say anything clever at the moment and things wouldn’t be too good for her if she said things she shouldn’t be saying in front of the Mother. Now you see, Lily is a clever child and I hope you learn from her. She doesn’t say anything if she thinks it might land her in trouble.
“I think the plants make our entire building look beautiful,” he said and looked at Euphemia who nodded her encouragement. “Wouldn’t it be lovely if the creeper ran over from the balcony of the first floor to the one on the second floor?”
“It certainly would,” said Euphemia enthusiastically.
“I agree,” said Lily hesitantly. “The third-floor residents aren’t too fond of plants. They chopped my tulips from the garden last month.”
“How about,” began James who seemed to be actually thinking through this entire ordeal as though it were of huge importance to him. That made him a tad bit adorable, didn’t it? Lily thought so too.
“How about we have it come over our balcony grills,” he said finally once again looking over to his mother who nodded her approval. “And it can look like a dome you know. A dome of creepers.”
He drew rectangles and squares and waves in the air. Lily understood and hoped she hid her smile well.
“I think that works, yes,” she assured looking over at Euphemia. “That would be lovely. Thank you.”
“I take it not everyone in this building like plants?” asks Euphemia and Lily nods.
“I’m glad you understood. They’re quite close to my heart,” says Lily proudly. “I would’ve pulled off the tendrils before they reached too high but it somehow didn’t cross my mind. I’m sorry for the trouble.”
“Not at all,” said Euphemia placing a hand on Lily’s shoulder and it suddenly reminded her of home, and mother. She wants to say that out loud.
“And besides, they make our balcony look beautiful. I see more purple flowers growing towards our home than yours,” says James. She wants to tell him that he’s kind and that he’s adorable.
“I’ll make a move then,” she says instead. “I must be heading home.”
“You can have a look at how the tendrils are looking from here,” he offers.
"Sure, I'd love that," says Lily and he gestures for her to follow him. Lily turns to look over at Euphemia who has a smile on her face and busies herself with an empty bowl.
Lily didn't need telling where the balcony was but still followed him on into the balcony. Her plant had creeped its way across the telephone wire until the first few grills near her feet. She looked at James offering him a smile which he returned.
"My mother loves plants but isn't the very best at caring for them," he states followed by a chuckle as he runs his hands through his black hair.
Now, Lily doesn't think he has handsome hair. She really doesn't. You would, honestly you would if you met him but Lily didn't. Really.
"I can help with that," offers Lily. "I'd love to have someone to share the sentiment with. My bestmate, who stays with me - Marlene, isn't too fond of plants too."
"Ah," says James in understanding. "I belive I've met her. Lovely woman."
"That she is," says Lily in admiration. "I must leave."
"You're lovely too," he says suddenly just as she leaves the balcony door.
Lily looks at him questioningly.
"No, no," he stutters and straightens his glasses and runs his hands through his hair all followed by the other.
You may have guessed so. Lily definitely does not find this admirable.
"I mean to say," he begins. "You are lovely, you really are and -"
Lily being the kind soul that she is, something she doesn't realise too much by herself, puts him out of his position of discomfort and awkwardness.
"I understand. You're lovely too," she says. "I'll see you soon then, Potter."
"Lovely," he says grinning, cheeks flushed from embarrasment.
"Lovely," she confirms with a smile before she leaves.
As for Euphemia, she pretends to be attending a phone call as Lily leaves so Lily waves her hand and moves out. Lily tells Marlene every thing in detail and Marlene is squealing and teasing Lily ruthlessly throughout the entire day. James' friends visit that day and Lily knows so because of all the noise they're making together and really, it should be annoying her but it really didn't. He may be adorable, just a little bit. Only a little. Really.

Wild Hearts Chap 1
I don't usually write romance but I have this idea jumping around in my head so I thought I'd post it. And that is it. This is Wild Hearts for you.
It's a story that is very close to my heart but I'm not sure if I'll be able to put it forth that eloquently. I'll try though, I will.
Read, tell me how you felt, tell me if you felt nothing. All appreciated x

Conversation
Because James was terrible at hiding the fact that he was so in love with Lily
Lily: James? Can we try on this Snapchat filter with butterflies around our heads?
James: Yeah, the butterfly filter on snapchat. I've got loads of them fluttering around in my stomach so having a few around my head? Not a great deal, yeah?
Lily: ...

Feel free to send in asks for moodboards (for free ofc)! I'm trying different styles and let's see if I can help.
I'll follow this post with another Gryffindor themed moodboard - The Gryffindor Common Room. I think that will help fanfic writers.

Happy friendversary
I had this headcannon about Lily and the Marauders. Of course James kept count of the number of days they’d been friends for and decided to throw a party.
"Lily-flower!" shouted the loud voice of Sirius Black.
Lily Evans, now in her sixth year turned to look towards the side from where Sirius was now shouting out her name. Over the last few months, Lily had become quite good friends with the Marauders and that meant that she had to deal with the constant pestering of the four boys. Not that she minded it and not that they were seriously annoying but right now, when she had to finish off her Transfiguration homework, well.
"Come on, come on," he urged, a wide smile plastered across his face as he hurried across the library towards her. "We've really got to be back in the Tower now!"
"Mr Black!" screamed Madam Pince. "I banned you from the library a few years back. You ARE NOT to be here!"
"Now, now Irma," said Sirius swiftly pushing out his hair from his eyes casually putting an arm over the librarian's shoulder. "I remember that very differently. Wasn't it me who decided to never get in this place? You were so disappointed that day, don't tell me you don't remember how much you missed me."
At this, a few fifth-years that were nearby giggled and Sirius looked highly pleased with himself. Realising that staying in here would cause more damage than asked for, Lily quickly put all her books and parchment into her bag and muttered a quick sorry to Madam Pince who looked too flabbergasted to even speak, Lily was out and on her way to Gryffindor Tower with an overly excited Sirius Black by her side.
"We're having a party today," he said simply as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"And what have we done?" asked Lily pointedly. "To grace ourselves with a party, I mean."
"You don't need a reason to party," said Sirius looking at her incredulously. "Honestly, Lily-flower, you're one daft witch."
"You're not calling me that," she said sternly trying to keep the smile off her face.
"You can smile you know," said Sirius creating silver sparks from his wand and meaninglessly twirling it about. "I know you love me."
"Oh yes I do," said Lily sarcastically. "I can't see how I'll live without you."
"Aww," said Sirius mockingly. "I'm not James. I'm Sirius."
"What?" she managed to croak. What was this boy on about?
"You heard me," he said mischievously looking at his with wiggling eyebrows. "I'm not James. I'm Sirius."
"I have no idea what that is supposed to mean," she muttered praying to God that she wasn't blushing or anything but then again maybe she was. That would explain the sudden heat she felt in her cheeks.
Sirius simply laughed. It was a free sort of a laugh. A genuinely happy laugh.
"Some word," he said loudly.
"Huh?" Lily found herself asking.
"The password Lily," said Sirius with mock reassurance. "The password."
As Lily climbed up the entrance, she saw it first faintly, a mere glimpse and then it was clear. A huge table was drawn up to the centre of the Common Room and there were banners all around. Before she could notice what the banners were, her eyes fell on the one she was least looking forward to seeing, especially after her failed attempt at a conversation with Sirius. James was there. Well, of course he was. Any party, he's always there. Her eyes quickly did a scan and she noticed that Remus, Peter, her friends Marlene, Alice and Mary were also there, wide grins plastered across their face. On the table was a huge cake with charms she couldn't quite make out from this far.
"Impressed?" said an all too familiar voice, breaking her out from her mid-day trance.
"We had a Quidditch match?" she asked dumbly. Of course they didn't.
"Umm no," said James and when Lily looked up at him, well, he looked hurt almost.
The Common Room was now suddenly silent and Lily realised that she hadn't made out how noisy it had been until now. The sole occupants of the Common Room were just her friends. Everybody else were either out for an evening stroll, early lunch or just hanging out with their friends. Empty Common Room on a party day?
"You don't remember what day it is today, do you?" accused Sirius from beside her.
Lily felt herself wince inwardly. Was it one of their birthdays? No, that could not be, she wasn't that cruel to forget any one of their birthdays.
"Am I missing something?" she asked awkwardly and tried to look straight at her friends' eyes which was very hard to do with their glaring and all. There was only silence.
"It's someone's birthday?" she offered hopelessly after no one said anything. She looked towards James for some help, he however, had his head turned away from her.
"Peter," she said hopefully. "What day is it?"
"Uh," he stuttered and began fiddling with his watch. "Friday."
"I'm really sorry," began Lily. "I'm not that very good at remembering important dates, come on, Mary you know that better than anyone else. I'm really sorry if it was someone's birthday and I didn't remember. Although I am sure no one's having their birthdays anytime soon but I'm not too sure and-"
This was all it took and everyone burst into a fit of laughter. A stupid prank. Before she could get angry and give them all a sound scolding, she was being pulled towards the centre of the Common Room, towards the table.
"It's our seven month friendversary!" said Sirius still laughing soundly as he hugged her. "Didn't expect you to remember that."
"Oh," said Lily grinning. "I didn't know you count all of that."
"We don't," said Remus with a smile as he cut the cake into pieces. "James does."
"I don't sit and count the number of days we've all been friends for," James said a slight blush creeping across his cheeks. "I just happened to -"
But whatever he was about to say, he had been interrupted by Sirius shoving a particularly large piece of cake into his mouth and nicely around his mouth. Lily joined the others laughing and fed Marlene some cake.
"I'm so glad we're friends with this lot," said Marlene laughing as she placed some cake into Lily's mouth.
"Entertainment, surely they are," agreed Alice.
Humming and nodding to agree with her friends, Lily quickly fed Mary, Remus and Peter followed by a hug each. She turned to grab one piece of cake and moved towards James. Gathering all the courage she had and keeping her face as flippant as she could, she simply fed him a piece of cake and gave him a hug and a quick peck on the cheek. Not wanting to look as flustered as she was, she simply fed a grinning Sirius a piece of cake.
"Evans," said James exasperatedly as he sat down opposite to her. "You're going to be the death of me."
Lily could only laugh.
"Happy friendversary."

I love how when we write Harry Potter fanfiction, we don't say 'Real Life AU'. We say 'Muggle AU'.
