WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU SAID WHEN YOU LEFT?

ONE —

The dandelion prairie is occupied today, he notes. A herd of deer graze around while a pair of rabbits follow them around, keeping a safe distance from their hooves. On one side some foxes were scratching their ears while a couple of birds rest on the fluff of their tails, chirping a melody among themselves. Leaning on a tree was a large bear snoring away, the raccoon sitting on its stomach cleaning the surface of its paws.

A step forward has him stepping loudly on the grass - the crunching sound alerts the animals and they turn to his direction, save for the bear.

"Hello again," Silver says softly, with a little wave.

The animals are a flurry of fur and noise at once, rushing over to his side. The deer nudge his shoulders in turns, the rabbits hop circles around his feet. The foxes scratch lightly at his pants, the birds have made themselves home on his hair. The raccoon bounces off the bear's stomach, late to the party.

The bear snores. Loudly. Silver gives it a glance before turning to the animals, holding a finger against his lips. The crowd settles quickly, looking at him with rapt attention.

Silver smiles, the afternoon sunshine dancing on his hair gently.

TWO —

He rises before the sun could touch the palace roofs, before it would cast its glow over the entirety of the kingdom. Phone stuffed in his pocket of his pants and wallet occupying the other, he makes his way to the audience hall in soft but swift footfalls. Once he's by the entrance, facing the tall doors engraved with tendrils of silver and gold, he whispers a few words and pushes the doors open.

The heavy doors do not make any sort of noise.

The hall is as long and wide as it always had been, and at its very end, a throne carved of stone and marble. What engraves the proud surface is the roots of the aged wood that has been supporting the palace foundation since time memorial, wrapping itself kindly around the throne with its moss serving as a cushion.

There's a red carpet beneath his feet - he walks straight and true in the silence of the early morning, head held high and eyes focused.

"Leona."

He does not turn. He continues his stride and each step he takes, the throne seems to be getting bigger, brighter.

... But he wasn't here for that.

Just a few steps short before the throne and his feet change their course, towards the left corner of the room. Pushing aside the curtains and going a little further into the space, Leona stops to stand in front of a floor length mirror; the entirety of the glass a dark black and its frame supported by roots.

"... Leona."

Again. He sighs, turns around. Farena, the reigning king of the Afterglow Savannah, stood tall before him but still dressed in his nightclothes. What a king.

The silence carries on for a moment until Farena smiles. Soft at the edges, eyes crinkling at the corners.

"You could've at least said to goodbye to me, you know."

THREE —

Where is it, where is it... aha! Pulling off his blazer from his closet, Ace slips it on without much care, reaching out next for his tie hanging loosely on a hanger with the same haste. Left over right, right over left, and...

"Rule number 591," a sharp voice rings out, causing Ace's shoulders to jump. "One must tie any knot of theirs into an infinity knot during the nights of a cresent moon."

Ace scowls, poking his head out from the closet door to glare at the person standing by his doorway. "You totally made that up."

"Ha! Not really," Ace's brother grins, "there's an actual rule that has something with an infinity knot, but it ain't Rule 591."

"No shit? What's Rule 591 supposed to be then?"

"Sevens bless me if I remember - by the way, what's with the uniform?"

Ace tightens the knot of his tie, then shuts his closet door. "Going back to school," he replies, reaching out for his phone on the bed. "... Dammit, still no answer?"

"Whoa there, lil' bro. You're going back? In the middle of winter break?"

"Got no choice," Ace huffs, stuffing his phone in his pocket and making his way out of his room. "I'll tell mom, then I'm out."

"Wow wow wow, you're serious. Don't tell me..."

"What? C'mon, let me pass."

"... You totally forgot your homework at the dorm, didn't you?"

FOUR —

Boarding school, Lilia hums to himself. It's nighttime and he's sitting on the watchtower's roof, staring at the stars littering the sky.

Now what was that like, again...? he tilts his head, raises a hand to follow the path of a constellation. Tomorrow, he and Malleus were to leave the Valley of Thorns to enroll into Night Raven College in the Isle of the Sages. Both were old names that flash a varied array of memories for him, but nothing entirely worth of nostalgia.

Dire Crowley serves as the current Headmaster... Lilia puffs out a breath of air, watches as the white evaporates into the darkness. Silver was calm about the news of their departure, but Sebek... ah, well. Perhaps some time away from Malleus would serve the young one well.

He's found the last point of the constellation when a shooting star passes by his eyes, glimmering brightly and departing as soon as it had shown itself. Lilia stares a little longer before he smiles, mouth moving but words not escaping his lips.

He has given his wish to the skies - now whether they were kind enough to grant it... was only something time could tell.

That's something to look forward to, at least.

I heard that in Malleus’s new birthday card he talks about a family tradition where the royals at a certain age pick their own attendants. Guess that explains why the exiled from the capital city Lilia, the son of the exiled general Silver, and the half human Sebek are allowed to guard Malleus even though the senators would not sign off on that XD

Nepotism at its finest/j That's one (Diasomnia-related) mystery solved in a mountain of many more yet to be... 🤡 The senators were probably appalled at Malleus's picks but couldn't protest for fear of letting the truth slip. But hey, Malleus is most familiar with and the most comfortable around the Diasomnia fam so it's only natural he'd select them if given the choice.

In the same vignette where Malleus talks about his family's tradition, he also mentions that he would be proud if those he chose to serve him were acknowledged (for their service, I presume). He didn't know it at the time (due to this part of history being obscured), but it's so serendipitous how it all worked out. It gives Lilia a second chance at honor, Silver a chance to "repay" his debt to his father, and Sebek (the oh-so-eager to please one) a chance to live up to his grandfather's legacy.

NOTE: To be clear, Malleus's Platinum Jacket vignettes do NOT state at what age the selection of aides and guards occurs. It also does not specifically state that Malleus chose Silver and Sebek for his own entourage; we are only assuming this is the case based on other supporting information.

For Azul, parenthood is the challenge of hiding the mess of a human that he has become while discovering what it's like to be responsible for a tiny human

The whole child aquiring process is the most stressful period of his life and he doesn't calm down until he's finally holding the child himself (and checkinh, double checking and triple checking everything during the whole process)

It becomes a running joke in the family that he considers the kid very talented for walking as early in their life as they did ("I was 15 when I walked for the first time!")

Jokes aside, Azul takes advantage of the fact that the kid can experience both the sea life and land life and he'll make sure to show them everything

His skills of reading people help him figure out quickly the talents of his little one and he helps emphasize their talents and develop in their weak points

After all, he wants to figure out the capabilities of the heir of his capitalist empire in the making as early as possible

He might come across as a bit of a helicopter parent, but it only comes to their social circles

Azul knows how fast things get out of hand when students at school start picking on someone

He knows the signs, he knows the mood changes, and he wants to prevent it altogether... and if he can't, he kicks himself mentally for years, no matter the effect it has on his child

For Azul, parenting becomes a testament of his determination and diligence, but it also teaches him to think on his feet more often as he is faced with the challenges of parenting

Azul looks like a boy dad (a boy dressed in a suit 90% of the time /j); he'd prefer one child but can be talked into having more

The opinions on Jade becoming a parent are split: some think he'd be the most attentive father, and some think the Leech family doesn't need any additions

Responsibility has never been an issue for Jade, and the moment he became a dad his priorities shifted towards creating a good and safe environment for the children (an emphasis on "safe")

He's a loving, doting dad who wants to teach his children everyting he knows, but he also wants to teach his children everything he knows...

The kids' skillsets are gonna be... broad, to put it lightly

Jade's not even phased when one day he comes home and finds one of his kids in his vault behind the bookshelf in his office turning his "documents" into paper airplanes

He praised them for that feat despite his spouse being very concerned

Jade can come across as slightly detached as a dad since he is quite hard to read at times, yet he tries

But old habits die hard, and the world taugh him that unpredictability is safer

It is a rule of self conduct that he teaches his children as well, since he can't have the youngest Leeches fall short, can he?

While he struggles with being easier to talk to, Jade makes a genuine effort to bond with the kids the way he knows best: mutual infodumping

While he rambles about mushrooms and their environments, his kids ramble about what they find just as fulfilling

Jade's journey as a father helps him connect with people better, forming genuine connections while still never changing the most important part of himself

Jade would like at least two children, since he found being paired with Floyd to be very convenient, and if they turn out to be twins then he'd be pleasantly surprised

The opinions on Floyd becoming a parent are split: some think he'd be the most entertaining father, and some think the Leech family doesn't need any additions

Especially when that family is grown by Floyd and his russian roulette of a mood

Yet he surprises everyone when he finds fatherhood to be quite entertaining

Floyd was surprisingly receptive ever since the whole conversation about children started; he always thought children are kinda cool, even with all the responsibilities

And even though he doesn't always help with their physical care, when he does he proves how good he is at the practical tasks

The kids get attached to him kind of quick because he unintentionally gets on their level (re: his tantrums kinda resemble his kids' sometimes)

Not gonna lie, sharing the timeout chair with daddy sounds kind of funny

Despite his struggle with his moods, Floyd usually avoids being too volatile with the kids

He's not a perfect dad, and petty fights and misunderstandings are bound to happen, but Floyd never takes anything said to him to heart

Floyd'd parenting focuses on teaching that you can always have fun, as long as you're smart about it

So pranks, practical jokes and mischievous schemes become part of the family culture

He does sometimes relent and joins in some of the more tame fun, like park walks filled with piggyback rides and tea parties with the sparkliest skirts ever

Floyd would find two kids as ideal, and he definitely looks like a girl dad to me

Twst spoilers!

So, I thought of an idea where Silver overblots and the Phantom creates a fortress around Silver keeping him inside and others—especially the Diasomnia Fam—out. I’m thinking of all the tragic emotions Silver must feeling as he, like Malleus, traps himself inside those dark feelings.

Then I imagined Lila doing this--

Diasomnia fam is kinda unique …..

Lilia, Silver and Malleus are orphans with no siblings (at least in Malleus’s case, his parents didn’t raise him)

And then there’s Sebek who has a perfect family with 2 elder siblings. Only thing thats he’s not satisfied about its being half human…….
