Ok can we talk about how toph held up a huge ass building? I feel like this is never addressed.
Tumblr media
The Gaang is in the sand, which is already hard for Toph to see/feel, and then she holds up this giant library?? While trying to protect Appa.
Also, can we talk about how its not one mass of rock-it's made of bricks, and being held together by gravity. She really said "Every one of you blocks, pillars, tiles, boards, and the rest of you are going to stay in your exact spots and not sink to the spirit world BECAUSE I SAID SO!" while she was fighting super mystical spirit magic. While fighting and actual spirits power. For who knows how long, because Sokka and Aang had time to check every date till Sozins comet would hit at least a few months away.
Can we also talk about how Toph was so upset and ashamed about loosing Appa due to sand bending skill that she practiced hard to perfect it.

moon ☽ in taurus ♉︎: you're adorned with money, gifts, and many forms of indulgence from the mother/feminine figures of life. you take your time in choice making and through any process you place yourself in. the neck and skin are both sensitive; you need to be involved with the beauty of life. expressing your desires is healing.
moon ☽ in gemini ♊︎: thoughts, ideas, and new forms of creativity all clash with your emotions. what is there to do with your hands? you must always be on the move, needing to implement new structures into your life and solving word puzzles. reading and learning new skills are a passion, you need it all to stay in the air.
moon ☽ in cancer ♋︎ : the influence of family, procreation, and the mother figure are of an importance with moon at home in this sign. its important to understand the connections of the family structure so you may be involved with community building most of your life. you may be pulled towards children and areas involving the childhood.

moon ☽ in libra ♎︎ : stability, security, and emotional expression are always involved in group settings as well as with those that are able to influence you to upgrade in your life. you must have the connections of social media and discussion with you, this gives you the chances of expressing your desires, wants, and needs in a blunt and elegant manner.

I feel like I remember a post going around a while ago about the inherent tragedy of Fallout 4 and the anti-climax that is Finding Shaun and- I just can’t stop thinking about it. I can’t.
(Going under a cut because this post got away from me LMAO)
It’s a tragedy. Your son is a cold horrific monster of a man who looks at people as experiments over being people. He’s egotistical to the point of thinking of himself as somehow larger than life- not quite godly, but something more adjacent to that- because of his control over life. *Because of how they groomed him to be. He was never allowed to be a “normal” kid. The Shaun we meet is doomed, hopeless, and it’s… heartbreaking. That’s your son and.
And he’s dead. He dies no matter what faction you choose. There’s no chance for true reconciliation.
(*There’s something to say about the parallels between Shaun and Maxson as characters that I’ve talked about to others in the past but still sticks with me. Not the post for it necessarily, but I wanted to mention it.)
For me personally, the ending of Fallout 4 wasn’t victorious, it was hollow. Now, part of that is definitely influenced by what I was going through at the time, but it has stuck with me how the only lights of hope I felt were… well it was Deacon. He made it less empty. Made it feel like it meant something good.
I didn’t like pushing the button though. I thought about all the shit that could’ve taken from Institute and used for the wasteland for something good. Thought about Shaun. Thought about how I couldn’t truly say goodbye to him. Felt like I was playing out the motions, and that fucking slideshow did nothing to help the hollowness.
It’s not victorious. But then we keep going anyway. There is still work to be done. And there’s companions to keep you company, to make the world a little brighter.
And Jesus Christ I love that fucking game. I love the sandbox and I love the way that when it hits? It fucking hits.
And guess what! Fallout 3? Fallout 76? Also fucking tragedies.
Sure, Broken Steel brings the LW back from the dead, but Lone died even if Lone isn’t “dead”. The slideshow still plays. You wake up and suddenly aren’t dead, but you should be. You should be. You, a nineteen year old kid were tasked with being a martyr. Sarah is pissed off when you ask her to do it. It should be you in the eyes of the narrative. You should be the one bearing the weight of martyrdom. Follow in your Father’s footsteps.
Fallout 76? I… your nuking the Appalachia repeatedly. Everything is gone by 2277. The bright future meant to rejuvenate the Wasteland ends up destroying it. Idfk what else there is to say on that front.
And these are just… the main Bethesda titles. 1, 2, and NV are arguably in the same boat but there’s a bit more in the sense that… well for those ones it’s much more about the “you’ve won, but at what cost?”. In the original Fallout, and let’s say you take the (I think more popular route) of talking to the Master rather than fighting him: you watch someone realize the weight of the atrocities they’ve committed, realize they had no purpose, and then kill himself and everyone there after you personally have gone through actually psychic hell to approach him. Then, you get kicked out of your only home you’ve ever known!
Fallout 2? You home is decimated, your people traumatized, and you must rebuild it from the ground up. You defeated the Enclave, but they took something from you that can’t be replaced or forgotten.
New Vegas… god there’s so much there and there’s another point I want to make to this post- make I can make it feed into this but- the Mojave gets ravaged by war. No matter who wins, atrocities will continue to have been done and to be committed. There’s deadly forces on the horizon who don’t give a SHIT about this petty war and the fucking dumb politics of these major powers. It will hit any faction hard and unmercifully. And there was still a war that consumed an entire land. So companion has a truly “happy” end. They’re all scarred and broken and have to make peace with the path they’ve chosen. People win, but they don’t win, y’know?
And I wish- as much as I love these tragedies- I wish there was more… hope. I wish that the world of Fallout allowed the brightness to shine through a little brighter. To allow the people who try to rebuild into something new to be more successful, to be allowed to take the narrative into their hands, bECAUSE HOLY FUCK DOES THIS DARK ASS WORLD HAVE SO MUCH MORE HOPE THEN ITS EVER GIVEN CREDIT FOR.
Begin Again is a rallying cry for me. The end of Lonesome Road, if you spare Ulysses, is a rebellion against the fucking cycle of violence and hatred. You want to BUILD something. Create rather than just regurgitate the old world into something more twisted than it’s corpse.
Surviving the purifier? Rebelling against the notion that you must die, that you must be a martyr, taking your life into your own hands? Watching a source of clean water be handed out for free and spread across the Wastes? Fucking! Breathing new life into Harold and so he breathes new life into the Earth?
Living even though you’ve lost all your family? Getting a new one in the people who follow you? Helping people rebuild the Commonwealth after it’s been terrorized and destroyed? Leaving this world stronger and safer then when you came into it?
Honestly- this post got away from me. @persephotea got me in my Fallout 4 thoughts (of which I have so many and they’re always trying to burst out of me) and I got to thinking about what I try to write about in my fics. Hope. Hope, hope, hope.
I choose a kinder Fallout world not because I’m trying to soften the edges, but because I want to believe that humanity has such an ability to be kind if it chooses to. That a world ravaged by destruction would CHOOSE kindness and growth. That despite all the darkness and selfishness, people would choose to Begin Again.
It’s all a fucking tragedy, but that’s only if the cycle continues. We can change it. We can end it. Just gotta choose to do it.
If you got this far, thank you for reading my tired thoughts and please please please share yours. I want to hear your thoughts so bad. Okay okay, I’ll post now.

I don’t get the vitriolic hatred of babies on planes tbh. I just got off a 14 hour flight with a bunch of babies in the cabin. Sure they were crying at some points (because of the air pressure changing during takeoff and landing) but it was the least worst thing abt the flight (and this was a pretty good flight). I think most of this is just adultism and societal child-hating.

i think aphrodite has many many forms. i think she believes she has to portray herself like that because that's what's expected of her.
she acts immature and childish and wild because that has become her nature. she's childish because where there's love, there's a child-like fear of losing it and there's also a child-like fascination. she's wild because love is wild. she's gorgeous because love is beautiful.
because aphrodite has never been vain, she's changed because the definition of love has changed over the years. she used to be cherished, she used to be beauty, she used to be love itself.
but now love is temporary. love is quick and hurtful and so she's trapped in her own domain. she wants to love her husband freely, she wants to show that love is blind, but she cannot because that is not her image. that is not how she's interpreted. she's trapped inside her own domain.
love isn't a feeling; feelings change so quickly that you can't even tell what they were in the first place or what they've become now. love isn't butterflies in your stomach, love isn't the scarlet in your cheeks.
love is a choice. love is when you know in your heart that you care for someone unconditionally. love is when you know you would die for them even if they never ask because you chose them.
back in the olden times, aphrodite was not so vain or immature. this is what the inevitable change of time has done to her.
i think she hides her true self because that is what she is expected to be. she is expected to be vain yet beautiful, because nobody knows the meaning of love. i believe she only allows herself to be portrayed as such because she herself does not know the meaning or the extent of love and loving someone.

Hi! Were there any perspectives in the ASOIAF fandom that made your eyes roll? If there are, what made you say so? Thanks!
[mostly written in 2021, and posted very late. Sorry nonny!]
woof, this could open up a can of worms. I'm almost afraid this is a bait ask but I'm also very willing to run my mouth online about ASOIAF, and I love making fun of dumb theories, so let’s go!
Every time someone says that Jon and Dny are the song of ice and fire, my soul dies a little. Enough said.
I also hate the idea that parallels between ASOIAF history and the events of the books don’t matter. Not to state the obvious, but Westerosi history isn’t real. No part of it actually happened organically, GRRM has manufactured all of it, so everything must have been written with a purpose. I don’t buy that it’s just all world-building, because if parallels are obvious to us, they must be a thousand times more so for the man actually writing it all, and the army of editors who are probably helping him keep it straight.
There is absolutely no way that anything about Jonnel ‘One-Eye’ is a coincidence. Half-brother to Rickon Stark is obvious enough, but then we have his mother. Lynara sounds very similar to Lyanna (side note: a jonsa baby named Lynara would be adorable), but the real link is that she was born a Stark - all of the women on the family tree are listed under their maiden names. Her relation to her husband Cregan isn’t specified; it would have been so easy to have her be from another random house, or even a Karstark, yet what George wanted to convey is that Jonnel has a Stark mother, as well as a Stark father who happened to be heavily involved with the Targaryens.
Another fun thing linking Jonnel to Jon! Jon’s first relationship was with a red headed girl, who claimed that they were married because he’d stolen her. In the same conversation where she’s called half fish…
“You know nothing, Jon Snow. I’m half a fish, I’ll have you know.”
“Half fish, half goat, half horse…there’s too many halves to you, Ygritte.”
(ASOS, Jon V)
this conversation is already jonsa gospel as foreshadowing because of “half-fish”, but the horse part was always a little strange to me. As far as I remember, they didn’t have a prior conversation about her loving horses or riding particularly well, so that was seemingly out of left-field.
Well Jonnel’s second wife was a Ryswell - their sigil is a black horse’s head with a red mane.

pictured: the jonsa agenda winning again
The idea that Stannis will take Winterfell isn’t as personally annoying to me, all these dudebros have very detailed, tactics-based reasons to believe he’ll win I’m sure (something about a nightlamp?), but I just think it doesn’t do anything for the narrative, nor does it make sense with either his arc or Jon and Sansa’s.
Winning Winterfell will put Stannis in a position of strength, give him a base of operations in the North that’s not on loan from the Night’s Watch, and would probably lead to most of the Northern houses swearing allegiance to him, as Manderly has already promised to do. Why would a man in that position ever choose to burn his daughter, his only heir, alive? That is literally one of the few guaranteed book plots we have, so IMO speculation about Stannis all needs to work backwards from this end point; it’s ugly and horrible, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to stomach reading it, but it’s the only ending to his arc that makes sense.
Kinslaying reoccurs time and time again in Stannis’ arc. Kinslaying for his own personal benefit, no less. In his first appearance in ACOK, he listens to Selyse suggest that he kill Renly, then stands by whilst Melisandre kills Maester Cressen, his surrogate father. Cressen raised him and loved him like a son; yet if he had killed Melisandre instead, Stannis would have lost the power she wields for his benefit, the main reason he has a chance at the throne. Later in the book, he implicitly allows his brother to be murdered so that he could gain the Stormlords that had rallied to Renly instead of him (anyone trying to argue that the shadow wasn’t technically Stannis so technically it wasn’t kinslaying will be put in the naughty corner for excessive pedantry). In ASOS, he’s willing to sacrifice his nephew, an innocent 12 year old under his guardianship. He says it’s for the realm, for duty, but really it’s for his destiny. What is the life of a bastard boy against a kingdom so close to his grasp?
It’s escalation. Each time so far he’s had a layer of deniability, but he’s not going to have that in the end. Ordering Shireen’s death himself, murdering his daughter in some desperate bid to secure victory over the Boltons, will be the final step off the cliff. Maybe he’ll have some military victories before that, smarter people than me have no doubt discussed the parallels to the Greek myth of Agamemnon sacrificing his daughter Iphigenia, but I have no doubt Stannis’ story is headed only towards tragedy.
….Turns out that I do have a lot of feelings about Stannis. But to get back to my original point, Jon and Sansa taking Winterfell back together, travelling through the North doing the work and proving themselves as worthy rulers, makes a lot more sense for their future roles in the story than Stannis winning it all for them. It’s also much more affecting and thematically resonant, so I refuse to believe D&D entirely made up that storyline.
I also inevitably end up rolling my eyes whenever I'm bored enough to go onto r/asoiaf, there's always a bad take right on the front page. One that annoyed me enough to go into @istumpysk’s inbox and kickstart my jonsa blogging was one asking what the point of R+L=J even is, because it never amounted to anything and just muddled up J/D being “the song of ice and fire”.
While it gets so close to the point that it’s funny, there’s no way the “song” is going to boil down to a relationship, let alone JD. I would almost buy Jon and Dænerys being the song of ice and fire if Jon actually were just Ned’s bastard, all ‘ice’. Hell, if he really wanted to make a relationship the song of ice and fire, he could have cut out the middleman and made Jon a trueborn Stark from the start - make them starcrossed lovers from warring families, truly ice and truly fire. Utterly boring, but thematically coherent at least. A major point of Jon’s character is that he is both - and something a lot messier than that besides, as a bastard.
It's not all bad on r/asoiaf though, when I went back to look for that post I saw another about how the Titan of Braavos is a Pacific Rim-style mech that will come to life to fight any dragons coming to the city, a theory that I will be championing from this moment henceforth.
Wait, nevermind, in that same thread someone said that Jaehaerys is the sexiest Targ name, so r/asoiaf is immediately cancelled again. That's another fandom perspective that makes me roll my eyes, the idea that Jaehaerys is in any way an acceptable name, especially as Jon's ‘secret’ name.
This 👏 is 👏 Targaryen 👏 propaganda 👏
Just look at it!! How do you even pronounce that? The hill I will most definitely die on is that this name is ugly.

i think the third awakenings really help cement all the phantom thieves’ characters and some of the main themes of the game a lot, and i’m honestly sad that vanilla never had anything like them; it sort of feels unfinished in comparison to me.
the first awakening is about showing your true self as opposed to how society sees you, and fueling your anger at your situation into a desire to change it. pretty straightforward and definitely one of the most important and dramatic parts of each characters arc in the game, because accepting change/the need for change can be hard.
the second represents the changes to their self and outlook that happened over the course of their arc, and finally solving or moving past the main “problem” that the confidant deals with. it also shows how the bonds they have made with akira and the other thieves help them figure out what they want to do in the future. it’s what comes after the change and how to settle into a new life.
in their third awakenings, the phantom thieves apologize for falling under maruki’s control, yes, but they more importantly (to me) talk about what led them to be so easily swayed— the insecurities and grief and regrets from their past that were never truly resolved by their plans for the future to move onward. the parts of themselves that they weren’t happy to see still existed within them. in these scenes they’re able to admit their fallacies and shortcomings, and it finally resolves their past self (first awakening) with their future self (second awakening) to show their present, or “true self.” and isn’t that what a persona is supposed to be? these complete selves are the real conclusion to their arcs that feel so unfulfilled to me without them. life is never perfect, never without challenges, but that struggle ever forward is what shapes us.

These are the same people-
I honestly love this so much, because it shows how everyone has two sides. There are many times when people underestimate Aang because, hey hes just a kid, hes just silly and goofy. But theres also so many people *cough* fire nation *cough* that think he is this all powerful and serious guy, he must know all the things to evade the fire nation for 100+ years. The crazy thing is they’re both right. He is some crazy powerful guy, but he is also a goofey kid.
I honestly just like to imagine Zuko chasing team avatar around the world thinking, “oh wow, these must be incredibly capable powerful benders.” Only to join the Gaang and be like, “wait a minute these are children?Really powerful children?? But still CHILDREN???”

There were four people in my group project (including me), the project was on Palestine. I did so much, checked that all my sources were (relatively) unbiased, did over a third of that project. And OUT OF NOWHERE one of the other group members DELETES all my work because it’s “too pro-Palestine” and replaced it all with pro-Israel propaganda to make it more “unbiased”. Everything I did was more relevant to the project than what she replaced it with, and she refused to do any source analysis for the same reason (we’re in honors; analysis is a given) so it’s just regurgitating the sources and she just used one database and didn’t double check any of her sources. Something something neutrality takes the side of the oppressors.
