I NEED HELP (DND Stuff, might be a dumb question idk-)
So genuine question for DND side of tumblr, but- I've been thinking recently...
And are the things next to the dragonborn colors in the player handbook, like, types of damage that are less effective, their magical girl power, or both?
Cuz I never really thought about that before and I have absolutely no idea-

Totk spoilers but not major ones, minor spoilers
.
.
So I’m still playing through Totk but very slowly, I’m super invested in taking my time and enjoying the scenery, same way I played BOTW. But I had an idea, as per usual. So know those poes you find in the depths? Know how poes in ocarina of Time are mean to you? I have two things on this
1. Since Wild had a near death experience (or just. A death experience would be more accurate) he can see poes and they don’t hurt him! So when visiting Times hyrule, the pies don’t attack him. They just vibe together. This leads to Shenanigans.
2. The poes are actually his fellow knights, or just in general people whom he knew in life before the calamity. That’s why you see those random ghost knights handing out weapons. Those are his coworkers! They speak to him, maybe vibe with him. Now, imagine: he’s in Times Hyrule getting attacked by Poe, and one of HIS Poe, (his Poe friends) come out and fight the other Poe for him, and maybe pass on a weapon afterwards. Angsty? Fluffy? Crack? So many options.
Aight, back into my little hole in the ground I go!

First of all, surprise! More Person of Interest! Wow!
Second, my brain would not let go of trying to form a PoI x Fallout AU, and for a while I didn't think I could make it work (ie: how do you get a franchise dependent on stuff like the internet and phone booths to work in one with neither), until I had an actual shower thought about it being specifically a Fallout 4 AU!
Basically it's just Fallout-y versions of the PoI main cast, with Fallout-y versions of their backstories, and following a Fallout-y version of the show's plot, but the plot of Fallout 4 is also happening at the same time with John filling the role of the Sole Survivor (except Harold got him out of Vault 111 instead of Father, and John isn't Shaun's dad lol). Oh and the Institute's surveillance of the Commonwealth is provided by the Machine, and yet Finch has ensured they don't have full access so he can use it the way he wants to: to help improve the lives of the people of the Wasteland!

What I think is so important to learning how to truly appreciate life is learning how to appreciate the creatures and things we've categorized as "disgusting" or "gross."
When I learned to appreciate wasps, I realized how much they just... don't really care about anything, and they're not trying to be an asshole because they're uniquely cruel. If they have any wants, it is to live. Why would I punish that when I also want to live?
This isn't to say you need to fall in love with the creepy crawlies that stalk this world or to love what you cannot, but to recognize that in their arrangement of atoms, they are trying to persevere, and in the end... aren't we all?

loving reminder as someone who struggles with food: you are allowed to add joy to your food. you are allowed to add a little joy even if it’s a tiny thing, something silly or something weird. you are allowed to do it whenever you want, as many times as you want. anything that makes food easier and more enjoyable for you is worth it!! it’s your food, you can decide what to do with it!! you can add rainbow sprinkles to your ice cream. you can cut your food into little heart shapes. you can pack your snacks into cute little bento boxes. it is not pointless or childish, it is an effective and active coping tool that you are allowed to use.
give yourself a little joy. the little things add up.

DO YOU THINK SERVANT SUN WONDERED WHAT HE DID TO DESERVE THIS WHEN HE WAS LEFT TO DIE IN HIS UNIVERSE. DO YOU THINK HE LOOKED IN THE MOUTH OF A BEAST THAT WAS TEARING APART HIS WORLD LIKE IT WAS WET TISSUE PAPER AND THOUGHT THAT IT WASN'T FAIR. HEAD IN HANDS.

just asking, what if an iterator possibly gets too hot or cold? What happens if they can’t get to safer temps with out outside forces? What if they can’t get to safer temps at all?
Do you mean superstructures or puppet-bound iterators? I'm sure superstructures have a lot of failsafes to deal with temperature fluctuations, mostly via processing water intake. They're living saunas! They probably have an incredible resistance to both hot and cold, as evidence shows.
I'll talk about puppets here, but if you meant superstructures, well... a lot of what I'll say here could apply to superstructures too.
(For puppet-bound iterators, I am referring to my AU CDSS)
For heat: Puppet-bound iterators, like their former superstructure bodies, run hot and need to stay hydrated. They rely on liquid coolant that runs throughout their bodies. Ruptures in the coolant system are one of their many common problems, but with medical aid, they're not too serious. Many cases are self-healing, or the rupture will seal itself off and reroute around the blockage - like with collateral circulation. Leaks into essential systems are more of a concern than the actual loss of coolant. As long as they stay cool and drink water while waiting to get fixed, they tend to be fine.
If they are stuck in a hot region and can't escape, they'll suffer from dehydration, heat stroke, fried components, damage to organic tissue, seizures... pretty much what you'd expect. As a superstructure, Moon probably suffered from all this leading up to her collapse.
For cold: They're fairly resistant for a few reasons. One is the antifreeze in coolant. Another is the heat that they naturally produce. I'm thinking they have silicone-based skin, which is very cold resistant. They have hemocyanin, which tends to function better in extreme cold than hemoglobin. (Hemocyanin can also work at hotter temperatures. I have like a whole essay about this that I still intend to post lol.) However, the puppets have been modified to have more flexible and sensitive skin - dexterity in exchange for some durability. They're more susceptible to the perception of cold than they would be if they were a still a superstructure. Many of them also dislike snowscapes on principle, because they've been freezing their decaying metal butts off for centuries by the time CDSS happens.
Iterators in both forms are very moist, so if it's cold past their limits, their mechanical components will freeze. And like with hypothermia in fully organic beings, prolonged time in extreme cold will lead to tissue death and organ failure. Superstructures with fractured exteriors (direct exposure of internal parts to the cold air) are especially susceptible to this.
Misc theory about superstructures: Moon's superstructure was able to stay intact into Saint's era because she collapsed straight down into the water, preserving most of her shape. The canyon water could have provided the pressure and circulation she needed in the absence of gravity cores, as well as protection against land pests and insulation against the cold. Remnant slag could have her generate excess heat as well, which would keep the water surrounding her unfrozen. In a way, dying like that could have helped her live longer?!
Thanks for the question anon, this was very fun :P

I can imagine the first cycle after moving. Probably Leo because Donnie likely has internal scarring, so leo goes through the process of laying his eggs, panics, his brother can't help, and finally, *finally* they ask for help. It's not willingly. It's not for fun. It's purely necessity. It's purely because there's *literally noone else* and the idea of telling anyone at all is so scary that the way they do so is in a note. Splinter sits them down and basically walks them through "You're safe, you're fine. We can handle this however you feel most comfortable, including getting you both on blockers if you prefer" and they just.... sigh. For the first time, there's *someone else* in their circle, and it's willing and it's warm, and it's *safe*. There will be tears.
Yes, except I'm not convinced that either of them could stand to tell anyone. Even if it was literally life or death (which it has been before,) I'm not sure if either of them could bear to give up that information. Donnie is finally, finally away from the people who hurt him when he got found out last time, and even though logically, he knows that it's different here, he's absolutely petrified of the thought that the same thing will happen again and it won't be over anymore. He's still horrified by the idea of anyone else knowing about Leo when he's gone to such lengths for so long to protect him, and Leo is likewise terrified in the same way. They've spent years with this being their more closely guarded secret, and that's going to be really difficult to give up.
But it's really not a secret they'll be able to keep for long.
They're in a completely different environment, with far less space and privacy. They're both stressed as hell and Donnie WAS on birth control and taking all sorts of vitamins and supplements to make sure he didn't eggbind again and now he's suddenly not and it's not only messing with his body, it's fucking scary. It literally keeps them both up at night. Neither of them know how to wash blood out of clothes or sheets. There's no private en suite bathroom they can sequester themselves away in. They're both literally making themselves sick with anxiety trying to deal with this, and they're used to handling this on their own, this is routine for them, but they're not used to all of this.
They'd probably metaphorically limp through a few cycles before their family puts it together and gently confronts them.
Venus probably figures it out first. She's pretty smart, and incredibly observant, and after all-- she quite literally experiences the exact same thing. April may not lay eggs, but I think she'd be able to get the idea after a bit as well. And while I think Splinter would realize something was wrong pretty quickly, Draxum would probably realize what was wrong first. Splinter has April, so he has a little bit of experience in this realm, but Draxum has Venus and so he has far more experience.
And so when they do sit them down and talk with them, it's going to be really scary at first. And then they get to, "you're safe, you're fine, we can handle this however you feel the most comfortable. It will be okay. No one will hurt you."
And then there's finally other people in the know, in the circle, people who will actually help them. And yes-- there will definitely be tears.
#leo in particular will probably panic at least a little when theyre confronted#because its been what? almost four years?#almost FOUR YEARS of him keeping this a secret at any cost#almost four years with no one else in the universe aside from his twin knowing#and now the spell is broken#but its okay#and they might panic and cry for a little but then they calm down and its... actually ok. things will actually be okay#april will take to big-sistering them so hard#and lowkey just? having venus exist in the household will be incredibly helpful#(she was honestly so baffled that everyone else didnt realize what was going on right away. it wasnt obvious????)#mikey tries to spoil them the same way he tries to spoil venus whenever she feels nasty#(but has to adjust a bit to respect boundaries because. donnie will bite him...)#likewise raph tries to take care of them the same way he'd take care of casey#(ie by leaving offerings at their doors and staying the fuck out of their way. just overall letting them do or have whatever they want)#their family will take care of them and keep them safe and things will get better#its honestly a huge relief when they get caught in some ways because leo can finally be like#and donnie got really sick one time and almost died and im scared itll happen again PLZ can we make sure it doesnt happen again#donnie in the background like >:0000 that leo just fucking OUTTED HIM LIKE THAT#but to leo 1000% worth it if it means donnie wont get sick and die#(as if donnie is actually realistically at any more significant risk of that than leo is)#(quite frankly theyre BOTH at risk of it at the time because of how stressed they are. lowkey a miracle neither of them eggbound yet smh)#also donnie def has internal scarring lmao;;;; poor bab. makes it a bit rough...#menstruation#tw menstruation#cw menstruation#gemini au#asks#anon#csa implied#cw csa implied

Dear God how I fucking hate when people dismiss s character's traits because "that's just a facade! you as the reader have to see underneath it!!" like yeah no fucking shit Sherlock, a well written character has more than one (1) defining trait but that doesn't mean their most prominent one or the one most recognized by fandom ISN'T there
yes this is about people thinking dick grayson isn't actually a ray of sunshine, that it's just a mask. he's much more than the happy one, of fucking course, all batfam members (when written well) are, but that doesn't mean that being happy and bright is not a crucial part of his personality. he brings light to people's lives, he's a beacon of hope, that's what Robin was born for, as a light to Batman's darkness. That's what Nightwing is. He can be serious, sure. He's smart, an amazing strategist, incredibly good at fighting, he can be manipulative and morally gray and sometimes an objectively bad person. But he's ALSO funny and quippy and bright and sunshine. BECAUSE HE'S WELL WRITTEN.
Like Jesus stop making him so sad and wrong all the time just because you want so bad to go against "fanon". It's not fanon if it's literally his core trait. It's not fanon if it's what the character was BORN AS. God.
#I'm not sure if this even makes sense#it's almost 6am I haven't slept and I just saw someone say he's a manipulative bitch and to stop writing him as a ray of sunshine#and now I'm mad#because this parson had this lukewarm takes with most of the batkids#like yeah I get a lot of damian's traits and back story are deeply rooted in racism#but like he did try to kill tim. and he killed a bunch of people when he first got to Gotham. that's a thing that happened.#and no matter how racist the reason behind that plot line might have been#it's something that happened and choosing to believe it didn't happen because it doesn't fit your preconceived ideas of how#a character should or should not be is just plain stupid#you can explore the character and change their personality and play with them in fanfic sure that's what we all do#but don't pretend that canon doesn't exist. you can choose to utilize it or not but acknowledge it even if it's just to spit in it's face#damian's not tame he's not more chill than his brothers he's not misunderstood#he's a child who had a horribly traumatic childhood and reacts with violence because that's all he knows#Jason's angry and he has every right to be and to say he isn't is to erase an incredibly important part of his character#you don't get to tell a victim how to be a good victim. Jason's a victim.#dc#batman#rambles#batfam#batfamily#dc universe#dc comics#batman and robin#dick grayson#Jason Todd#Damian Wayne#nightwing#red hood#oh look I made a post about dc that is NOT about Tim#wild huh

i feel like people take rick calling beth “rick’s daughter” in season 3 in a super chauvinistic way but i honestly always read it as his way of emphasizing that beth is an incredibly smart and capable person. like i feel like it’s fair to say “rlck sanchez’s child” holds a certain kind of weight regardless of gender as opposed to necessarily being about ownership esp in the context he was saying it

I actually think hazbin hotel is doing really well with the time that they have. Obviously 8 episode isn't enough time to tell a 6 month story. I woul have loved to see more of the ups and downs on the way to redemption instead of just being told in episode six "idk. I mean angel is probably ready now. Like heaven is looking at him like he should be there. He's had such a character arc. Trust me bro."
Watching characters going through the ups and downs of struggling for redemption is what sold me on the premise to begin with.
I would rather have seen alastor slowly grow attached to the hotel and have positive interactions with its guests instead of having it imply around in episode 5?? I would prefer if the Vs were a constant force in the narrative instead of showing up to sing their songs and then disappearing into the background. It would be better if they could establish characters through small details over time instead of counting on songs to very quickly do most of the heavy lifting.
But. When I first heard about the 8 episode for 6 months time structure, I was afraid that they would try to cram too much into too little space, and have the redemption arcs at the hotel represented through a montage sequence or something. But instead, despite the breakneck pacing of the story, no episode in particular has had its neck broken by the pacing.
They are all really simple A plot/B plot stories. The entire fist episode is dedicated to nothing but Charlie talking to Adam, and the hotel crew trying to make a new commercial. Episode 2 establishes the Vs and gets sir pentious into the hotel. In both of these episodes, almost nothing happens. And in episodes with busier A plots the B plot is made very small. Major lore update vs. the hotel crew trying to figure out trust falls.
There should be more episodes. 8 isn't enough to tell the story. But if you wanted to rewrite the story to give it the time it needs, you wouldn't have to change anything about the episodes that currently exist, you would just have to put more episodes in between them.
And it's remarkable to me that with nothing but these very light episodic narratives that wouldn't be out of place in a longer running episodic narrative, they still manage to squeeze in all the details that are necessary to make the story coherent. It doesn't even feel like a squeeze, except for the part where you notice that there wasn't enough setup in prior episodes. If you take each episode out of context from the others, everything feels like they payoff to a story arc that was probably pretty well established.
The show has pacing problems that were inevitable given the amount of time the writers were given to tell the story, but they are doing a pretty great job of it anyway. Certainly a better job than I dared hope for when I watched episode 1.

HEY so in case you were WONDERING I crunched the numbers and 44.37% of the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening tag on AO3 is Linked Universe fic.
And hey. Hey. In case you were wondering. Guess what the percentage of Linked Universe fic in the Marin tag is. Guess.
65.64%
Roughly two thirds of the Marin (Legend of Zelda) tag on AO3 is Linked Universe.
So anyway. I'm gonna need Linked Universe fans to either start treating Marin as an actual character in her own right rather than Legend's dead girlfriend who he's sad about or I'm gonna need them to stop tagging her in their fic.
Number crunching method under the cut
Alright, so. The thing that actually makes it difficult to figure out how many Linked Universe fics there are on AO3 is that AO3, as of writing (ninth of march 2024) does not have a Linked Universe fandom tag. (Even though at this point it really should because this is ridiculous.) There is an additional tag, "Linked Universe (Legend of Zelda)", but usage of this within the Linked Universe fandom is unreliable. There's a lot of fics that are Linked Universe, and are tagged with the characters, but are not tagged with the additional tag.
So what I did was this: try to figure out how many fics are tagged with the characters, but not with 'Linked Universe (Legend of Zelda)'. For this, I couldn't just filter on all the characters, because not all Linked Universe fics are going to have every single Linked Universe character. So I systemically eliminated the characters one by one, and tallied up all the fics they had as I did.
That looked like this:
Step 1: Find out how many fics there are in the 'Linked Universe (Legend of Zelda)' additional tag.
Step 2: Find out how many fics there are in the 'Legend (Linked Universe)' character tag if you exclude 'Linked Universe (Legend of Zelda)' from the search.
Step 3: Find out how many fics there are in the next most numerous character tag, if you exclude Legend and the Linked Universe additional tag from the search.
Etc. until all the characters had been eliminated, then tally up all the fics.
The numbers looked like this:
For Link's Awakening:
Total fics in the tag: 311
Total fics in the 'Linked Universe (Legend of Zelda)' tag: 86
Fics including the tag 'Legend (Linked Universe)', excluding those tagged 'Linked Universe (Legend of Zelda)': 48
Fics including 'Warriors (Legend of Zelda)', excluding Legend, Linked Universe: 2
Fics including Time, excluding Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: none
Fics including Twilight, excluding Time, Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: none
Fics including Hyrule, excluding Time, Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: 1
Fics including Wild, excluding Hyrule, Time, Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: 1
There were no fics for any of the other characters with the remaining filters applied.
Total number of Linked Universe fics: 86 + 48 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 138
44.37% of the fics in the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening tag on AO3 are Linked Universe.
For Marin (Legend of Zelda):
Total fics in the tag: 358
Total fics in the 'Linked Universe' additional tag: 152
Fics including the 'Legend (Linked Universe)' tag, excluding Linked Universe: 76
Fics including Warriors, excluding Legend and Linked Universe: 4
Fics including Twilight, excluding Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: none
Fics including Hyrule, excluding Twilight, Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: 1
Fics including Time, excluding Hyrule, Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: none
Fics including Wind, excluding Time, Hyrule, Warriors, Legend, and Linked Universe: 2
There were no fics for any of the other characters with the remaining filters applied.
Total number of Linked Universe fics: 152 + 76 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 235
65.64% of fics in the Marin (Legend of Zelda) AO3 tag are Linked Universe.

i’ve been relistening to both the palisade and partizan soundtracks a lot lately, both because i’m catching up on palisade and lately it’s had plenty of implications for both seasons as a whole and because i’m slowly writing my own hack/setting/something about screaming mechs and i think the thing that strikes me listening the second time to partizan is how different it feels when you think of each synth as the voice of a mech or divine that is Screaming and Afraid and Alive. or just like. the sound of metal being Used. how scary would the sound of welding be to a robot. do the columnar or divines or any other synthetic people hear the constant alarms on ships like icebreaker or palisade and hear screaming. the way humans hear screaming in death whistles. posthumanism will not save you from body horror and from witnessing horrors made of flesh or seeing bodies corrupted destroyed and used. and in fact you are even more vulnerable. or something.

You ever think about young university, baby Gale, watching his peers have a more fun kind of traditional university time, finding partners, having messy little love affairs and of course they invite him out for the parties and events, it's a fucking wizard university and he's a chosen of mystra- and all jokes aside, that means something. But it also means people treat him less like a peer and more like a novelty at best and an arrogant ass at worst- they don't quite talk to him the same way as they do each other, maybe they play nice for his stories and his hyperfixation rambling, let him give a speech or two- but always seem eager to move on and talk to their real friends. And he's there but he doesn't feel a part of it, watching at a distance- telling himself it's okay because he's a chosen of mystra and that's an honor, a privilege, these people are having messy dorm hookups and he lays with a goddess in the astral plane, so then why is he the one he feels so utterly alone? why does being with a goddess sometimes just feel like another form of solitude?
