Shoutout to everyone who…
Relies on ‘junk food’ to eat
Is not able to or does not have the spoons to cook regularly
Whose relationship with food was damaged by their parents
Struggles to eat fresh fruit and veg
Has a limited diet due to sensory issues
Is made fun of for their restricted diet

In the same vein as "I've been taking my medication for long enough that I haven't experienced any symptoms in a while, I must not need to take it anymore! (Spoiler alert: the meds are why you haven't had symptoms)" I present to you a similarly clownish thought process- "I haven't experienced that trigger in a long time, maybe I was just exaggerating how bad it was and it'll be fine to engage with this! (Spoiler alert: take a fucking guess babes)"

If I have to read one more "I hate picky eaters, they have the taste palette of a 5-year-old" post, I WILL actually start killing people. You don't want to be around "picky eaters?" Fine, then get the fuck away from us. We're better off without your judgment.
"But wahhhh why won't they just try something new" Shut. Up. Look up how things like adhd, autism, depression, and many more affect eating. Look up food allergies, intolerances, and general sensitivities. FUCKING LOOK UP ARFID. Seriously I am so damn tired of people not knowing shit about arfid, refusing to research even when I tell them about it (most of my doctors don't even know anything about it even though they've known about my struggles for over two years!) And then you have the nerve to shame us for dealing with an eating disorder that is fuck all hard to work through cuz, again, no one knows fucking shit about it and they don't want to learn! My therapist reached out to an eating disorder clinic to find help for me, and the only goddamn one who even knew it existed was the director.
Stay the hell away from so-called "picky eaters" if you're gonna make post after post complaining about how annoying you find us, or how you just so badly want to go to restaurants with your friend but they eat like a child! Go alone, asshole.

things want make whole world understand about ARFID
not just emotion feelings like little bit nervous but like physical reactions physical hard . think about eat new foods make feel sick distress like need convince brain and body this is food in first place .
and new food can mean
food that really never try before in any form
familiar food done in new way , change recipe proportions or change how cook prepare but all pieces same
familiar food but pieces change , even if just 1 like sauce
familiar food but texture different , because prepare different or not ripe enough or too ripe , things like that
familiar food but look different , colour , sometimes with severe ARFID even just cut and shape
familiar food but smell or taste different , new flavour
anything that is not familiar food in very exactly same way every time basically
and new food take so much mental energy and work to try , can not just change new everyday or will burn right out and rely even harder on things that never seem change like stuff from boxes in store .
is why ARFID put risk for malnutrition and gut bowel problems , eat make so so so much stress and sometimes only thing can do is try fortify what do eat rather than try change add different .

People judge picky eaters a lot but, as a very picky eater, I’m endlessly frustrated by my limitations. When I vent about this, a lot of people respond with things as “just eat it, it might not be so bad” but I mean it when I say a lot of suggestions I have already tried.
I watch a lot of food videos and they all look so good, a lot of food smells amazing, but then I try it and the texture is a sensory nightmare and there’s too much flavour. I love being autistic but, if I was to change one thing, it would be that.

people on tumblr will literally post things like “you have to eat vegetables and expand your palate i dont care if you are a picky eater because of autism (if i can overcome it you can too)” and everybody will reblog it being like “yes this is true for everybody no matter what” and think its okay. like sorry but that wont work for everyone and there is no one size fits all and some people will never be able to eat these things no matter how hard they try. im only allowed by my doctors to eat recreationally and not for nutrition, because my ARFID is so severe that i get my nutrition solely from a specially made formula drink. your suggestions of “try vegetables roasted!” or “try them in soup!” and assurances of “i did it, you can too!” don’t work for those of us with more severe mental illnesses and disabilities. stop tying a person’s worth to their diet and stop assuming everybody has the ability to do what you can.

i keep explaining personality traits and quirks as "it's the autism" and i think it's starting to get taken as me exaggerating but i'm NOT. i buy tennis shoes too big bc i will have a meltdown if i can feel the end of the shoe on my toes. it's the autism. i got my first pair of non-jean pants recently and i am a full grown adult. every pair of pants except these will have me crying in the fitting room from sensory issues. it's the autism. the pants are high waisted and i wear them low. sensory need. it's the autism. 90% of my shirts are plant themed. special interest. it's the autism. i don't try new foods until a specific time when the Vibe Is Right. because most the time new sensory input will make me literally gag regardless of if i like the taste. autism. i'll pause a movie to do a deep dive of a side characters medication. pharmacology special interest. i took intro to pharmacology, human diseases, medical terminology, etc in college for FUN. i am not normal about it. it is not a normal interest. it's the autism. it's the autism. it's the autism. do you want me to show you where it falls under in the dsm criteria for autism each time i say it's the autism? do you want me to cite my sources when i say that the fact i've been eating cheerios for most of my meals is the autism? because i can ! do you wanna know whyyyy i will eagerly back myself up?
PSYCHOLOGY SPECIAL INTEREST.
ITS THE AUTISM.

gentle reminder to those with EDs, allergies, or literally any condition that interacts with food, who are also trying to boycott for Palestine:
if not getting a certain brand means you wouldn’t eat, get the brand. if not getting a certain food means you wouldn’t eat, get the food. yes, even if there’s a boycott. do not let people guilt you into self-endangerment. in order to work, activism must be sustainable and must involve radical self-care. of course do your best to find other brands, but if it comes down to it, do not starve in the name of activism.
