For your born in death au, does anybody else know about Ingo? Like Elesa maybe? And if not, how do they react to Emmet gaining a brother over night?
In this case how do the parents react when they find out Ingo is alive now?
Also this au is very cute and cool I like it a lot!!!
Thank you for the ask! And I'm verrrry happy you enjoy my AU!
Ohhhhhhh, boy, oh, boy, the boys' parents are absolutely shocked! And also are now overcome with very, very many feelings! The first one after shock is relief, of course. They had, to begin with, convinced themselves that Ingo had passed on. It was the smallest comfort they could offer both themselves and to Emmet, but that's all it was. A comfort. They were distraught as well when Emmet told them that Ingo was gone without any explanation. It was difficult for them to lose their son all over again for a second time, and then to regain him a second time too lifted a burden off their hearts they had meant to bury away.
The second, well. In the end, it's difficult not to get past how unbelievable it is, to finally meet their formerly deceased son face to face, after years and years of never being able to see the physical evidence of his existence, so it's more disbelief, but they get over that quickly when the full family finally gets to have a group hug with Ingo included. It involves a lot of sobbing, a lot of holding, clutching, cradling, a lot of staring. In the end, everything settles down into simple love and happiness. Their parents are just glad to finally have their other son back, even if it was after a long continuous cycle of hurting and healing for them. They do everything they can to get Ingo settled into his new life in modern day Nimbasa, he has their full support.
On the topic of who knew about Ingo from the start, almost nobody! For the longest time, only Emmet and the boys' parents knew about Ingo. Emmet had a hard time making friends, both in adolescence and in adulthood, so there weren't many people Emmet would end up trusting enough to divulge that sort of secret to, when it finally settled in that he shouldn't go flapping his lips about being able to see his dead brother.
Although. When he was younger and getting help from a small number of special needs therapists, he may have quite possibly blabbed a bit before he started to keep his mouth shut about Ingo. Not that those therapists ever said or did anything about it. That was way above their pay grade. Definitely not their business.
For Elesa, this is something I was a little unclear on. I personally headcanon that the boys only met Elesa later on in life, after getting their careers started. They weren't childhood friends or rivals. What this means for my AU, I believe Elesa never knew about Ingo before his disappearance. Emmet and Elesa were only friendly acquaintances at first, despite Ingo's best efforts to persuade Emmet to interact with her more (Ingo wants Emmet to have more friends). Sometimes Elesa would challenge the Subway for a spot of fun, or sometimes Emmet and Elesa would reference each other on battle tactics, since they both have a fondness for electric types.
I think Elesa would notice how Emmet tended to space out, how he might stare at a specific area to his side, or how she would accidentally interrupt a conversation with nobody every so often. But Emmet would wave everything away as getting lost in his head or just talking to himself to work through things better. Elesa let Emmet brush off her curiosity. They didn't know each other incredibly well, but she let herself assume his eccentricities were just another of his charming points. (She knew better, but it wasn't her place to push.)
Then things went a little catastrophic. Emmet suddenly started a hiring process for a new face to manage the Singles line, and his public appearances outside of his duty to the Doubles line and Multi line began to decline. His cheery exterior seemed to become much less genuine and much more of a front. The media picked up the new gossip, and it didn't take long for Elesa to take notice that things were going downhill.
Elesa reached out to Emmet. Checked in, asked if everything was alright. (He wasn't alright, he would never say. She knew.) She started inviting him to hang out more often. ("It's been a while, Emmet! I want to catch up with you, why don't we grab some lunch together during our breaks in the next few days. Your Joltik project was electrifying to hear about last time, I'd love to learn more!")
Emmet does try to hold her at arms length. At first. But he knew it'd look too conspicuous to keep giving her weak excuses, so he would end up accepting her offers for company eventually. And then he would keep doing it. It's hard to say no after a certain point. With Ingo gone, with how he's isolated himself in his grief and obsession, he's just. So lonely now. So lonely, it's painful. Elesa eased the loneliness a little bit.
But the knife's edge that was Ingo's absence only slipped in further over time.
And one day, Emmet broke down.
When Elesa finds him in shambles in his apartment (after days of no word from him, days of waiting for him to respond to her texts, days of radio silence, why did she wait so long), that's when everything spilled. Emmet told her everything.
Emmet told Elesa about Ingo, and she believed him immediately.
Later, when Ingo comes back, she's stunned. And then his first impression of her upon meeting her again is her impulsive fist to his gut for unintentionally leaving Emmet on his own (and wow, she definitely felt that in her knuckles, he's actually real, she's not hallucinating), and then immediately attempting to aggressively befriend him in a similar fashion to how she aggressively befriended Emmet. Ingo lasts a grand total of five seconds before his kicked puppy demeanor transitions to utterly flustered.

The night before was…hard, to say the least. Bakugou had come home late, covered in soot and ash and blood. Came home limping, clutching his side, covered in a large bandage that still leaked a little red.
He only received the little amount of help from others because nobody would let him leave the scene without at least getting the gash on his side checked out. But as soon as he was cleared to go home, he hadn’t looked back. Came home to you bloody and hurt and worn and tired.
You had stayed up all night with him, cleaning what you could. Pulled out the little first aid kit and sat him on the toilet seats top, apologizing every time the alcohol soaked cotton ball cleaned another wound.
He hadn’t said a word when he came home, but his eyes told you everything you needed to know. When you laid in bed together, he felt so far away, rolled away on the other side, knees practically hanging off the bed. But you met him on his side, snuggling up to his back, whispering into his nape that he was always so strong, for himself and for the others around him. Whispered that nothing honored you more than to help him, than to love him, than to be right here with him.
The next day, he sleeps in a little later than usual, his agency granting him the next day or two off. You’re in the kitchen, wearing nothing but his shirt and your underwear, hair a mess over your head, as you throw extra pieces of bacon to the dog on your heels. You’re mid flip on a pancake when you hear shuffling behind you, the dog scurrying over to the doorway of the kitchen with his tail wagging a mile a minute.
“How are you feeling, baby?” You ask, pressing the pancake a little flatter, glancing over your shoulder. You have to take a double take at the sight, eyes going wide as you whip around, turning off the stove as you do.
Bakugou is there, dressed only in sleep shorts, face and body and torso covered in bandages and bruises, but he’s on one knee. He’s holding a little black velvet box out in your direction, eyes still puffy with sleep, a little pout on his lips.
“Marry me.” He says more than asks, a hesitant look on his face as he glances away for a second. “I’ve never had someone love me and care for me the way you do. And I…I want you to be at my side, for as long as we live. So fuckin’ say something, or else I’m gonna lay back down and smother myself with your pillow.”
His last sentence makes you bark out a watery laugh. Tears have filled your eyes before you’ve realized it, a sob catching your throat as you cover your mouth. Early in your relationship, he asked if you had ever wanted to get married. You had told him that it wasn’t necessarily a dream of yours, but if the right person asked, you’d say yes.
You always thought that maybe he’d ask you while at a hero gala, or during a family dinner with both sides, or something more extravagant. That maybe he’d ask you while you were dressed up, with a little makeup on, and your nails done, and not wearing fluffy baby yoda slippers. But the domestic sight of you made him realize that this was what he’d want for the rest of his life.
So here you were, nodding your head quickly as words get caught in your throat. You meet Bakugou halfway before he even fully gets up, barely conscious of his bandages, as you wrap your arms around his neck and sob into his skin. He places the rock on your finger when you finally pull back, planting the softest kiss to your lips, sharing each other’s breath with every inhale in, and exhale out.

The clouds were so fluffy, so white and pure as you longingly watched them swirl above you. Your entire body was numb, back flat against the dirt with all your limbs stretched out. Your brain felt fuzzy, and for a fleeting moment you were flying in the clouds. You could feel the water vapor skim past your fingertips, the air whooshing against you as you soared. You looked down at the earth beneath your form, all the trees and even the walls looked so tiny from this height. This peaceful daydream was pulled from you with a start, your chest heaving with coughs.
“I’m so sorry!” you heard a voice call out, your line of vision intruded by the hazy form of a person leering over you. “I didn’t mean to hit you like that!”
“‘S okay,” you choked out, the numbness fading into aches all over your body. “I’ve gotten you good a couple of times too, Eren.”
“You know what, on second thought,” Eren’s lips spread into a smirk as he extended a hand down. “Consider this payback for beating my ass all those times in the Training Corps.”
“Good on you for finally landing a hit,” you chuckled, wincing as he hauled you to your feet. “Only took you three years.”
You rocked on your ankles, steadying yourself quickly before your legs gave out on you. Eren had gotten you good, roundhouse kicking you in your chest to lay you out on your ass. His training sessions had begun to pay off, used to the reverse happening when the two of you sparred. Mikasa would look on intently, a small smile on her lips when you’d punch Eren’s smug face with a sharp hook. You and 104th cadets were a friendly, strong group, bonded over the horrors of the titans, especially after what happened in Trost.
“What are you brats doing out here?”
Your heads whipped in the direction of the strong voice, meeting the steely hard set eyes of Levi, your captain and soon to be squad leader. His arms were crossed, and you gulped upon taking notice of how his biceps strained under the grey linen of his button up. You quickly flickered your focus back to his eyes before he caught you eyeing him up.
“Just sparring,” Eren hadn’t released the grip on your hand, nor had he noticed he was still holding onto your palm as he addressed the superior. “Prepping for the mission tomorrow.”
Levi frowned, “And who told you it was okay to do so when I gave you cadets instruction to clean the headquarters from top to bottom?”
You pulled your hand from Eren’s as you responded, “Sorry, Captain Levi. We’ll get on it right away.”
Levi only let out a displeased ‘tch’ as he turned on his heels, walking away without further commentary. Eren shot you an eye roll, and you held back a snicker as the pair of you followed shortly after the ravenette. Maybe the two of you had snuck away to leave the rest of your comrades to attack the former Survey Corps headquarters with dusters and cleaning rags, not wanting to participate in your weekly assigned duties. Eren had been adamant in the cobwebbed hallway on the second floor that he had to practice his hand to hand combat, just in case your squads ran into some problems on tomorrow’s mission. You had eagerly agreed, wanting to be as far away from the unsettled dust that assaulted your nostrils, itching at your allergies.
As the three of you entered the building, Levi abruptly turned to the two of you trailing behind him, you and Eren jumping in fright, “Eren, go to the dining hall, you’re going to wipe down underneath all the tables. As for you, brat, you get the honor of cleaning my room.”
Eren shot you a sympathetic look discreetly, nodding to your captain as he hightailed it to the hall.
You swallowed a lump in your throat, alone now with the captain. He studied you for a brief moment, gesturing with his head for you to follow him. Your feet moved before your mind could will you, and the soft thuds of your footsteps across the wooden planks of the floor was all that was heard. You snuck glances at the man before you, taking notice that his undercut was slightly grown in, his longer hair uncharacteristically out of place. Levi looked disheveled in a way, his tan leather jacket creased.
You opened your mouth to make a comment, but decided against it in the end. You were going to offer your assistance, to help freshen up his fade and to do his laundry, but figured Levi was a grown man who could take care of himself. You had a soft spot for the man, humanity’s strongest soldier. You knew a title like that came with a weight you could not fathom, especially after the horrors you had seen at Trost when the titans broke through the walls. You could remember everything so clearly, almost as if it was happening right now. You had nearly died that day.
Your older age amongst your fellow cadets was not one of gain you found out. After learning about the tragedy of Wall Maria, the wall closest to your village, it inspired you to join the Survey Corps in order to help the world. Humanity was dying, almost completely obliterated. Distant family members had died in Shiganshina that day, and the reality of the titans weighed heavily on you. How could you sit idly by as the world you knew was being destroyed before your very eyes? What would’ve happened had that attack been on your small village instead of the Shiganshina district? How would you have protected your own?
So with those thoughts in mind, you joined the training corps. Your parents had disagreed with broken hearts, knowing the likely fate of your choices. Your mother had insisted that you were of ripe marrying age, and that they had no other children to carry your family name. They begged and pleaded for you to settle down and find a husband, to help humanity in a different way by bearing children. You knew this was just a fantasy, and you knew it would be entirely possible that if you were to follow their wishes, the family you would create would be devoured and destroyed. This was the only way you could help, no matter your age or being in your reproductive prime. You needed to slaughter the titans, one by one until none remained. You kissed your beloved family goodbye the day you left for training, and you frequently sent them letters to let them know you were well and alive. One day, they all were returned back to you as you sat in the barracks, and one of the captains informed you that your village was destroyed, your parents and friends from home all dead.
You thought of them as you sliced through a five meter titan’s nape in Trost, your first kill. The citizens of the district ran stampeding in retreat, and caught up in the heat of it all, you had failed to account for the seven meter barreling behind you. When it’s burning fingers wrapped around your body, you sobbed, preparing to meet your family in the afterlife, whatever that would look like. You could feel the hot spats of drool hit your cheeks as the titan opened its mouth, bearing teeth and a cruel grin, and then suddenly, you were flying, caught in the arms of a savior. You stared in disbelief at the cut off fingers on the graveled stone of the street, to only be brought out of this state as Mikasa held you close and questioned if you were alright.
After the dust settled and the casualties were counted, you could feel a fire blazing deep within you. You never wanted to be vulnerable like that ever again, you wanted to be strong like Mikasa. Then, you met Captain Levi. You didn’t know much about him, but his reputation spoke volumes. You wanted the strength of the Ackermans whom you so deeply admired. You begged Commander Erwin to be assigned to Levi’s squad, and your wish was granted. You had been in the top rankings of your class, and you had a solo kill under your belt, aside from the near fatal clutch of another titan. Most of all, you had survived, a bigger feat than most of your comrades.
“Oi, you done daydreaming?” Levi’s cool voice brought you out of your train of thoughts as you arrived outside a wooden door, presumably his temporary living space.
“Sorry, just thinking,” you mumbled as he opened the door.
“Didn’t think you were capable of that. All the supplies are in the box on my desk, I want this room spotless, I don’t care how long it takes,” your captain grumbled as he made strides to his desk in the center of the room.
The room was fairly large, a double bed pressed against the left wall and the dark wooden desk was littered in paperwork. Half filled bookshelves lined the right wall, some mismatched couches and chairs filled the empty space. Honestly, the space was nearly perfect, even the bed was made. You knew better than to point this out to your superior though, so you had simply nodded and began to sort through the various cleaning supplies.
The scratch of Levi’s pen filled the hour long silence as you worked, dusting every surface and wiping it down with disinfectant spray and an old rag. After sweeping thoroughly, you flickered your eyes to the single window in the entire room, surprised completely as the sun had nearly set. The two of you were probably going to miss dinner, you realized as Levi poked his head up from the pile of papers he was concentrated on, a clear look of distaste on his features.
“This is what you call clean?” he spat, running a hand through his bangs. “Mop the floors, cadet.”
You sighed, feeling the subtle growl of hunger in the pit of your stomach. The mop laid in the left corner by the bedroom door, where you had found the broom. You swapped the two, picking up a bucket on the floor. You filled the wooden container with disinfectant, not seeing any polish in the box Levi had provided. He only rolled his eyes at seeing this, but said nothing. At least the floor would be clean.
Levi had lit a few lamps around the room to provide lighting as the sun dipped lower in the sky, swallowing the room in darkness. The floor was sparkling as you finished the last spot, a feeling of satisfaction filling your chest.
“Better?” you interrupted his concentration. He gazed around the room silently, face blank.
“Much,” Levi finally spoke. “That’ll be all, cadet.”
You smiled, setting the cleaning supplies back to their original locations, “Do you want me to bring you anything? I’m going down to grab dinner.”
Levi’s eyes widened at the question, not expecting your offer, “Some tea would be fine. Don’t fuck it up either, brat.”
You nodded as he dismissed you, and you treaded down the stairwell from the second floor to the kitchens. Some of the other cadets littered the dining hall as you passed, seeing some of your comrades laughing at a table, but you paid them no mind. In the kitchen there was hardly any leftover food from the dinner, scraps of potatoes sat in a large bowl on one of the counterspaces. You sighed, scarfing down whatever was available while you set a rusted kettle to a flame. The water was boiled within minutes, and you poured it over tea leaves in two teacups. You cleaned up your mess, and made your way back to Levi’s room.
You knocked twice on the door, hearing his grunt to signal you to enter. Levi was still positioned in his chair at his desk, head in his hands as he scanned over his documents. You placed his cup down silently, ready to leave the man to his work.
“Why are you here, cadet?” your captain called out as you went to open the door.
You turned your head to look at him, his eyes never leaving the words of his papers, “What do you mean, captain?”
“The Survey Corps,” he clarified, finally making eye contact. “Why?”
“To save humanity, sir?” you didn’t mean to speak as if you were questioning him, but your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
He scoffed, setting his paperwork aside, “Humanity, huh? You’re a bit too old to be in the graduating class you’re currently in. Why join now?”
“I’m sorry, but I’m confused,” your body was facing his entirely now. “Why are you asking me these questions?”
“Because it doesn’t make sense,” he more so mumbled to himself. “You shouldn’t be here. You should be pregnant with your first born, with a husband. Instead, you’re here, trying to fight titans.”
“With all due respect, Captain,” your voice was laced with controlled anger. “I don’t see how that’s any of your business.”
“Aren’t you scared?” Levi continued, ignoring your question. “You could’ve picked the easy way.”
“It would’ve been in vain. My village was wiped out shortly after Wall Maria fell.”
He hummed, his hands coming down to rest on the wooden notches of his desk, papers forgotten, “You were in the top ranks. You could’ve joined the military police.”
“And hear how my comrades died instead of helping them?” you gawked.
“It’s a lot better than watching.”
You shut your mouth then, lips pressing tightly together. You didn’t understand why your captain was questioning you like this.
“I see the way you are with them,” his tone softened, not looking you in the eyes as he spoke. “How you all are.”
“Just because I’m friendly doesn’t mean I’ll forget the purpose of the scouts,” you said defensively, crossing your arms. “I have my own ass to account for.”
Levi pushed off his chair suddenly, scraping the just mopped floor and jolting up to his legs, “You have no idea what it’s like out there. Your friends are going to die, cadet. There’ll be nothing you can do to save them. Are you prepared for that? Collecting their bodies, or whatever’s left of them to take home to their families?”
Your mouth went dry, jaw slacking, “Captain, I know what loss feels like. My family is dead, some of my so called ‘friends’ died in Trost. I know what I signed up for.”
He scoffed, circling around his desk to stand a few feet away from you, “Haven’t you seen enough?”
“Are you trying to get me to quit the Survey Corps?” you asked incredulously.
“Yes. You don’t belong here,” his tone was rough as he spat at you. “Go find a husband. Get the fuck out of the military.”
“I don’t want to,” your anger simmered as you stared down at your boots. “I don’t have a home to go back to. I can’t leave. I know the other cadets aren’t my friends. I’m just trying to make the best out of my life before I die. I know I’m going to die. What’s so wrong about trying to find comfort in others?”
“You are a fool,” he seethed, teeth clenched. “You want to die?”
You shook your head, not bothering to keep the conversation going, “I’m going to bed, Captain. I’ll see you tomorrow for the mission.”
“I didn’t dismiss you, cadet,” Levi towered over you now as your hand wrapped around the doorknob.
You brought your fist up to your chest in a salute as you began to exit, “With absolutely no disrespect, I’m exhausted. Have a good night, Captain.”
You pushed the door shut in front of you as you stood in the hallway. You knew you would be getting an ear full from Levi in the morning, but honestly, the conversation was beginning to stir up feelings you’d rather not address. Intrusive thoughts filled your mind as you made your way to the first floor where your temporary bedroom resided.
You couldn’t answer Levi’s question because in a way, in a very selfish train of thought, you didn’t want to be a part of the titan’s world anymore, whether that meant death or something else. How easy it would be for you to greedily pack your things and leave the military and take refuge in some random village to live out the rest of your days, however long they would be. Or to just simply become fodder for the titans in your quest to rid the world of their reign.
Your uniform was folded on your bedside table, a cotton shirt and shorts on your body as you sat on your bed over the covers. You could hear the soft snores of Christa as she slumbered peacefully in the bed across the room, and you gazed over her body under her covers. You knew the people you trained with, fought with, grew fond of, were not your friends. How could they be? It’d only make things harder in the end. Like Levi had said, you might be the one collecting their deceased bodies after a battle. How could you ever grow close to someone that you knew their days were numbered?
The 104th cadets were your comrades, not your makeshift family. You had to remind yourself of that every time Sasha would ask for your leftovers, batting her big eyes at you. When Eren would spar with you, telling you how strong you were and commending you on how far you had come since the first day of the Training Corps. How Mikasa literally saved your life, and how you had admired her ever since. Armin’s unmatched potential and growth. Jean’s relentless taunting, giving you the nickname of gram because of your age. Connie, well frankly, just being Connie. Reiner and Bertholdt’s strong will and passion. Annie’s unwavering willpower and prowess. All the other cadets who you’d gotten to know so well, you had to constantly imagine their corpses as they smiled at you and tried to get to know you. So, you stayed back, opting to be alone at any opportunity, so their deaths would be easier to swallow when the time came.
You squeezed your eyes shut, shaking your head to try and rid yourself of your thoughts. It was of no use, and with a sigh you pushed yourself out of your bed. You deemed it would be yet again another sleepless night, and you realized sadly you had left your tea cup in Levi’s office completely untouched. You didn’t bother to entertain the thought of going back to retrieve it, instead you slinked through your bedroom door and out of the headquarters.
The night air was chilly, and you felt regret for not grabbing your jacket on your way out. The moon was gone, a completely black night, and you could see the stars crystal clear. The sky was your favorite sight, especially on nights like this.
You found a nice patch of soft grass, and laid on your back to gaze up at the sky. This was always your comfort, even as a child, to go outside and watch the sky, day or night. Your mother would warn you that your eyes would fall out of your head if you stared too long at the sun, at the moon. You didn’t care, because in those moments you felt so free. Free of the walls that caged you inside, of the world around you. You were the clouds, the stars, the wind as it rolled past. Maybe you were never meant to be human, you mused. You were meant to be nature, never to experience the trials and tribulations of sentinel living. You were supposed to be free, all knowing and ignorant at the same time, existing without the weight of consciousness.
“Thought you were going to bed, cadet?”
You were startled by the boom of a familiar voice behind you, collecting yourself and clearing your throat, “I couldn’t sleep.”
Levi’s head bobbed into your field of vision, “Thought too hard today?”
You rolled your eyes, feeling guilty as you caught the action afterwards and hoped your captain wouldn’t find it as a disrespect, “Yeah, you could say that.”
“Why are you out here of all places, without a jacket?” out of the corner of your eye you watched as Levi brought himself down to sit next to you.
“I like watching the sky,” you put simply, trying not to make eye contact. “Makes me feel better.”
“About dying?” he said, and you knew that he wouldn’t let your previous conversation go. You decided to humor him, if only to get these thoughts out of your mind.
“Yes.”
“Like what?” he almost sounded uninterested, but from his line of questioning you knew he was anything but.
“I don’t want to die,” you admitted, digging your fingernails into the grass by your waist. “I don’t want to watch anyone die. I never wanted to join the military. I felt like I had no choice.”
“We always have a choice,” he leaned his back to see whatever had your attention draw above you.
“Either fight the titans or get eaten alive when they attack the walls?” you snorted. “What a hard decision to make.”
“Why’d you join the Survey Corps?” he asked once again.
“I didn’t want my family’s death to be in vain. I had cousins, aunts and uncles in Shiganshina.”
“What about your death?”
“I hope it’ll mean something,” you breathed, feeling your chest get tight. “I hope this all will mean something.”
Levi looked at you then, a glimmer of something you couldn’t identify in his eyes, “You sound like Erwin when you talk like that.”
You made eye contact, a small smile on your lips, “The Commander’s an amazing man. I’m going to take that as a compliment.”
Levi scoffed, “Take it as you will.”
“What else could I do? I’m trying so hard to make a difference, to make life easier for others so they don’t have to suffer this fate. Isn’t that why we all joined the Survey Corps?” you continued your train of thought. “Maybe we all have a death wish. Fuck, I know I have one. It all just fucking hurts, Captain. I can’t help but think of others all the time, of all the loss and the grief they've gone through, what I’ve been through. At what will keep happening until all the titans are gone for good.”
“Why the sky?” he changed the subject, seemingly bored of your repetitive narrative.
“Because there’s no titans up there,” you joked without humor. “There’s no walls, no boundaries, no rules. It’s never ending. Where are the stars? How does day and night occur? Where does the moon go when the sun’s out? It amazes me, that’s all. Makes me think of how big the world is, of what’s out there besides this.”
“You think too much for a brainless brat,” Levi grumbled, laying on his back and joining you.
“I know,” you chuckled, turning your body to face him. “Wish I could turn off all my thoughts, it would probably make life a whole lot more livable.”
He hummed, eyes drawn in to your face, “I understand. What you said earlier, too, about finding comfort in others.”
“What do you mean?” you propped your head on your hand and you positioned your elbow to support you.
“I guess I never thought about it before tonight,” he blinked, expression unreadable. “Life as a soldier isn’t a comforting one. I guess that’s what I was trying to tell you about.”
You read between the lines of his words, recognizing it as his form of an apology, “I know. But it’s still the life I chose. At least I’m trying to make a difference, we all are.”
“Y’know, I’ve been paying attention to you for some time now. I didn’t understand when Erwin came to me and told me you had asked to be put on my squad. I took a look in your file, and I saw you after the attack on Trost, and I still didn’t understand,” Levi spoke slowly. “I don’t think I get you at all, even now.”
“I don’t think I understand myself,” you laughed dryly, returning your attention to the sky.
“You should get some sleep, cadet,” he advised softly, pushing himself off the ground. “And for fuck’s sake do it soon, I won’t be taking care of your ass if you get a cold.”
Levi stalked off before you could utter a response. You sighed, and decided his words were wise enough to follow. A few moments after your captain had left you, you followed his pathway back to the entrance of the former headquarters. You entered, making a hasty retreat back to your room where Christa was still knocked out cold.
Under your covers, you replayed your conversations with Levi. You still couldn’t figure out why he had questioned you like he had, why he even cared in the first place. Maybe it was his own gnawing curiosity, trying to understand why some random twenty-something year old girl insisted on being in his squad like you had. Maybe, you thought egotistically, you had your own reputation. You inwardly snorted, probably not.
Images of your captain under the moonlight played beneath your eyelids as you finally managed to drift off into a dreamless sleep.

The mission had gone horribly wrong. At least for you, to be honest you had no idea where the rest of your comrades were as you raced on your horse, desperately searching the sky for flares. You hadn’t seen a single one in a while now, at least ten minutes, and your heart was thudding hard as thoughts that the entire fleet of soldiers you had joined had been decimated. You were completely alone, the walls distant behind you. All you knew is that you couldn’t stop, couldn’t turn around or else you’d really be lost.
The 104th had stayed behind at the former headquarters, this having been a smaller expedition to clear out some titans before the planned 57th expedition in a few weeks. Levi, Oluo, Petra, and Gunther, as well as a few other squads accompanying you, were in a near perfect formation when an abnormal titan had broken through, killing a few unnamed soldiers at your side that you had never met before today.
In the far left distance, you could see a large forest full of trees. Your jaw slacked open, relief running through your veins when you caught sight of some men on horses heading that direction. Green flares shot up high in the sky, and you pulled the reins of your mare to follow. Your plan was brought to a screeching halt though, as you heard the thunderous footsteps shake your horse, and your body. You threw a glance behind your shoulder, a ten meter titan running straight towards you. You reached to your side quickly, shooting a red flare above you to warn any close by comrades.
The titan was gaining speed, about a dozen yards now behind you. You really wanted to avoid confrontation was much as possible, but as those yards closed between you and the titan, you growled and prepared yourself. You gave your horse a soft pat on her neck, and heaved yourself to stand on the saddle. You gaged your surroundings, seeing complete flat plains all around you, not an ideal situation for fighting at all.
Your odm gear shot you straight to the titan’s legs, a plan instilled in your head on the best way to take it down. It was fairly thin and muscular, but you decided it was just a plain titan as it dumbly stared at you with its wicked grin. Your dual blades locked in your hands now, you swung behind the titan and sliced through its ankles. The ten meter fell swiftly, giving you the perfect opportunity to land on its nape and kill it. It stilled completely beneath you after your swift cuts, and you ran as fast as your body willed you to rejoin your mare.
You placed your fingers to your lips, whistling as loud as you could. Your horse, at least 100 feet away, perked its ears and turned at a rapid speed straight back to you. She neighed as she reached your form, and you hauled yourself back on her saddle, kicking your legs for her to break into a full gallop to where the green flares still lingered in the air.
You didn’t bother to signal another flare in the air, seeing no other flares around you. As you neared closer to the forest, you felt incredibly relieved at the sight of your squad, now able to make out their faces. Petra waved her hands high in the air, about 20 feet away now. You saw Oluo, Gunther, and Levi, unharmed, as you got closer, bringing your horse down to a slightly slower gait, seeing no titans around.
“Are you okay?” Petra shouted at you once you reached the group. “Are you hurt?”
“No, I’m okay!” you spoke as fast as you could. “The other cadets I was with were killed by an abnormal, I got split up from them.”
“What was that red flare?” Oluo questioned, worry riddled in his eyes.
“It’s fine, I killed it,” you breathed shakily. “Where are the others?”
“Retreating back to the walls,” Levi answered, voice hard and commanding. “We’re out of blades, and there've been too many casualties. The others have the deceased’s bodies.”
You and your squad nodded, and with no further delay, you broke your horses into a full sprint back to the walls. The sun hung low in the sky, sunset merely a few hours away. Now in a formation in the clear open plains, you noticed out of the corner of your eye some movement.
“Abnormal titan to the right!” you screamed, turning your head to watch the titan’s arms flail, running in an irregular pattern.
“Holy fuck,” Gunther’s eyes widened in horror, shooting a black flare into the sky. “That’s got to be a 15 meter!”
“Don’t engage!” Levi barked, eyes trained straight ahead at the walls. “Keep an eye on it!”
“Sir!” the four of you quipped.
It seemed the abnormal titan had other plans as it caught sight of the five of you, its pace changing with intentions.
“It’s heading straight towards us!” Petra called out, flickering her eyes between the running titan and your captain. “Orders, Captain?”
Levi kept silent, much to your horrors. It was only a few yards away now, speed not slowing. Levi’s attention was completely ahead, the walls almost in full view. You were so close, not close enough though and the abnormal titan’s legs moved faster.
“Captain Levi!” Oluo shouted, eyebrows shot into his hairline.
The titan was less than three yards away when Levi finally spoke, “Petra, Oluo, make it fast!”
You shot off your horse before Levi’s lips opened, his commands unheard by you. Your odm ropes attached right into the titan’s ankles, just like how you had done before. There’s a reason they called it an abnormal titan though you discovered as its fingers closed around the wiring of your gear, yanking the ropes out of its skin and hauling your body up.
You squirmed, mashing your buttons desperately to get your hooks out of its fist as you were brought to the titan’s mouth. It was an ugly son of a bitch, teeth on full display in its evil smile. You couldn’t believe how badly you had fucked up again, the titan’s other hand gaining momentum as it lifted to wrap its disgusting meaty fingers around you. You watched as the fingers were sliced off before they could reach you, and suddenly you were free falling as the hand holding your odm ropes fell from its arm. You redirected yourself back to its ankles, back to your original plan of taking out the nerves to allow the titan to fall, your nerves entirely shot, your adrenaline in full control.
Levi had both his swords drawn as he met you at the back of the 15 meter’s legs, “Are you trying to get yourself fucking killed? You should’ve let the others handle it!”
“I thought I had it, Captain!” you curtly shouted, cutting through the tendons and getting sprayed with steaming blood. The titan did not falter though, but thankfully you and Levi had created a useful diversion as Petra, and Oluo took out the titan’s nape. You and your group shot back to your horses as the titan fell from its height, dead on impact.
The opening of the gate of Wall Rose was a fucking blessing, and your squad couldn’t have ran through it any faster. You heard the roaring of the gate as it closed behind you, and you were choking on shallow breaths as you slowed your mare’s gait.
None of you spoke a single word as you returned to the former headquarters, exhausted after the adrenaline of your mission wore off. You returned your horses to the stables, where feed and water awaited them. Your squad practically ran off, and you were confused until you saw the pissed off look of your superior aimed directly at you. Gulping down spit, you turned on your heel, ready to take off.
Levi’s arm shot out around your bicep, harshly tugging you to stop your escape, “Are you a fucking idiot, cadet? What the fuck were you thinking?”
“I thought I could take out the titan by its ankles!” you defended quickly, gritting your teeth as his fingers dug into your clothed arm. “It’s how I took out the other titan I killed, Captain!”
“You better learn quickly that all titans are not the same! Or did you not learn that in training?” Levi growled out between clenched teeth.
“I thought I could take it out,” you grumbled, ripping your arm out of his grip.
“You betrayed my orders. You listen to me and my commands, cadet,” he spat out, his eyebrows furrowed, his eyes burning holes into yours. “Remember your place.”
You pivoted yourself away from your captain, trotting ahead to head inside the headquarters, voice laced with malice as you grumbled, “I’ll do as I see fit.”
This would be the second time Levi hadn’t dismissed you before leaving him behind, you realized as you arrived at the communal bathroom. You sighed heavily, leaning back against the closed door, completely alone. Thankfully, it was very late in the evening, and if your comrades weren’t in bed already, they would be heading to sleep soon. You were so relieved to get some much needed alone time, especially now that you had such a terrible day.
You changed out of your blood soaked uniform, not bothering to fold it as you laid the clothes on the floor. Stark naked, you began to fill the bathtub basin with running water, a very rare luxury due to the previous care when the headquarters was up and running. With the porcelain half filled, the water steaming, you sunk your aching body into the scalding bath. The water turned a deep pink as you scrubbed your skin with a rag that had been resting over the rim. You untied your hair and dipped your head back, threading your fingers through your knots after generously coating the strands with soap. You drained the dirty water, refilling it back up now that most of the dirt and blood had been washed away. The tub held a pastel pink hue now, but you felt much cleaner and you sunk back in the tub, stretching out as much as you could.
You didn’t dare close your eyes for too long, picturing the events of today. You didn’t try to reflect on the lives that had been lost on today’s mission, the strangers you never had the pleasure, or perhaps displeasure, of getting to know. It made it easier in a sense to forget, to keep pushing forward. Still, the gore and the cruelty of what being a part of the scouts was truly about haunted the corners of your mind as you absentmindedly rubbed soap along your limbs. Maybe you were trying to wash away these memories, too.
Half an hour later, you decided it was time to dry off and get into comfortable clothing as the water cooled and your skin had pruned. You unplugged the drain, standing and reaching for a towel. Wrapping the fabric around your chest, you stepped out of the tub, feet leaving wet prints on the floor as you treaded to your bedroom, soiled clothes in hand.
An oversized white long sleeve hung off your frame, accompanied by your favorite cotton shorts as you sat on your bed, completely alone. Christa had briefly mentioned before your mission this morning that she’d be spending the night with Ymir, to which you were inwardly grateful for the promise of solidarity. As you sat hunched over, you found yourself longing for the comforting presence of someone, anyone, to distract you from the images that plagued your mind, no matter how hard you tried to push them away.
You jerked with a start as you pictured the angry face of your captain, feeling immense guilt pool in your gut. You had never spoken so much with Levi before yesterday, realizing the weight of your words and actions, reckless and undermining his authority. Maybe you owed him an apology, for if nothing else to at least calm your mind enough for sleep.
You didn’t remember the walk when you had arrived outside the captain’s door, or could recall if you had knocked before it swung open, revealing Levi’s surprised expression.
“I’m sorry,” you blurted out, nervously tugging at your sleeves as you avoided eye contact. “I’ve been disrespectful, Captain, and I’m sorry.”
“Cadet,” his teeth clenched tightly. “Do you understand what time it is?”
“I couldn’t sleep,” you whimpered, legs ready for a moment's notice of a retreat. “I’m sorry, I’ll leave—“
Levi’s hand shot out to circle your wrist, and you finally looked up into his charcoal eyes, “Don’t, come in.”
You couldn’t protest as you guided you into his room, shutting the door behind you after you passed the entry. Levi was dressed casually, beige cotton shirt hanging off his torso, plain grey pants on his lower half. The bags under his eyes told you he had also not been able to fall asleep. He led you to sit on his neatly made bed, towering over you with his arms tightly crossed.
“I was on my way to check on you.”
You furrowed your eyebrows, “What?”
“You didn’t knock,” Levi clarified, looking anywhere but at you. “I was already at the door. You’d seen a lot today. I don’t need my soldiers having breakdowns after every mission.”
He was worried about you, your breath halted in your throat.
“Oh,” you dumbly said.
“Seems like you did me a favor by coming here,” he mused, sighing as he ran a hand through his bangs. “Why can’t you sleep?”
“Thinking, again, about everything,” you crossed your thighs, body language signally how uncomfortable you were upon talking about these feelings.
“Your brain is going to cause you more grief if you don’t stop,” Levi’s spare hand grasped your chin gently, bringing your head up so you could look him in the eyes. “Why do you insist on being alone with these thoughts?”
“Captain, weren’t you just saying it’s a bad idea to have friends?” you could feel the pounding of your heart in your chest at his gesture, unsure of his intentions.
“Weren't you just talking about finding comfort in others?” Levi leaned down, you felt his breath against your lips as he spoke. “I’ve been paying attention to you for awhile, cadet.”
“You looked in my file, you told me already,” you whispered, unsure that if you spoke at full volume your voice wouldn’t quiver.
“No, I’ve been watching you. You’re not exactly quiet when you sneak out at night, y’know. I’ve seen you,” he hesitated briefly before continuing. “I’ve watched you cry all alone, how you try to distance yourself from the others. I was testing you yesterday, brat. I think I understand now, though.”
Your captain crouched down to meet you at eye level, fingertips never straying from your chin, and you felt your lip quiver as he rasped, “I understand, because I get it. You’ve always felt alone, haven't you?”
You nodded, scared to voice the truth, he continued, “I’m not going to explain myself to you, and if I hear a single word spoken about any of our conversations, I will personally sign your extermination paperwork. You’re different, you’re not like the others. You know what grief is, what pain and loss feels like. Your mission, your goals, it keeps driving you forward. Who couldn’t notice that?”
Levi scoffed, and you managed out a tiny, “Captain Levi.”
“Yes?”
“Why are you telling me this?” you could feel the harsh prick of tears try to escape your eyes, blinking furiously to not allow them to fall.
“Because,” he brushed back your hair behind your ear with his spare hand. “We’re exactly the same, and I can’t allow you to continue living like this, knowing where you’ll end up. Are you a virgin, cadet?”
“Yes,” you stuttered, thoroughly embarrassed.
“I am too,” Levi confessed, his eyes baring his soul. “I’m in my thirties, and I’ve never taken a woman to bed. All because of my mission.”
“My parents raised me to save myself for marriage,” your lips hung open. “But, they’re dead now, and I’ll probably never be married.”
“Cadet?” Levi’s hand came up from your chin to rest his palm against your cheek. “You talk about choices, you told me about how you never followed the path set for you. Why don’t you allow yourself some peace, some comfort? If not for yourself, for others, for your fellow comrades?”
“Are you asking to fuck me, sir?” your body felt heavy, uncomfortably numb but you couldn’t will yourself to move an inch, your mind was frazzled.
“I’m asking for permission to comfort you, both of us. I’m tired of being alone, aren’t you?” his face had fallen completely, and you were in awe of how open and raw Levi was.
You didn’t answer him, instead pushing his hands off of your face to capture his cheeks in your own hands, forcing your lips together. Fuck the world, fuck the titans, fuck every single thing that dared to bother you and your existence. You were tired, tired of denying yourself pleasures and comfort and basic human interaction. Who cared if you all died? Would it be for naught that you had never gotten to know your comrades? What would be the point in dying for your military if you didn’t have a motivation, a passion driving you? You were so fucking lonely, and Levi was too as he crashed his lips against yours, wrapping his long arms around your back to hold you closer.
You felt the older ravenette pull away for a moment, tugging his shirt over his head to reveal his scarred and muscular chest. You ran your fingers over his middle slowly, taking in every dip and every flex of his body. Levi was beautiful, and you felt honored that you were here in this moment, with a man who had heard more of your thoughts and feelings than any person before. He stopped your hands as they came to his pecks, pushing your arms high to remove your own shirt.
Your nipples hardened meeting the cold air, exposed now in the dim candle light. You didn’t dare cover yourself, nor did Levi let you get the chance. His hands were all over your chest within an instant, caressing and groping as his lips met yours once again. You hadn’t bothered to tell Levi that he was your first kiss, the first man to see you naked, the first man who had shown genuine interest in you and your body. Maybe you’d tell him later, but for now, you just wanted to quell the thoughts swarming your mind.
You stood quickly, maneuvering your lips to the side of his exposed neck. Your kisses were sweet, innocent and pure as Levi began to pull your shorts off, your panties accompanying the fabric. You kicked out of them as Levi grabbed the back of your head, groaning as he slammed your mouths together once more in an open kiss.
Your hands were everywhere on his skin, trying desperately to remember every single detail, knowing that this would most likely be a one time thing. You knew the risks of becoming entangled in a romantic relationship in the military, more so the scouts. Levi or you, or anyone, could die at any moment. This only motivated you further in your desire, ripping down his pants, mildly surprised to see your captain not wearing any underpants.
Levi breathily mumbled as he grasped your waist and led you flat on your back atop his bed, “I thought you were dead today.”
“I’m not, and neither are you,” you hushed his spoken thoughts with another passionate kiss. He tasted minty from his tea, smelled of woodsy musk from his obvious earlier shower, his touch so soft as he grazed your body up and down.
You felt his knees between your legs as he loomed over you, pushing apart your thighs at the force. His right hand stroked your cheek as his tongue prodded past your willing lips, swollen from his attention. His left hand ventured south, resting upon the curve of your hip, digging his fingers to feel the supple flesh.
“You’re quite beautiful, y’know,” he mirrored your earlier ministrations, placing sloppy kisses down your jaw and neck. “One of the reasons I was so fascinated by you, I couldn’t understand how you weren’t married.”
“Maybe in another life,” you simply put, attention drawn to how sinful his lips felt against your flushed skin. He sucked on a particularly sensitive spot, and a whimper left your lips at the contact. You could feel your center slicken, cold air consuming all of your exposed skin. Levi’s hand dared closer and closer to your desire, and you made out the distinguished poke of his manhood against your lower stomach.
When his fingertips nudged against your folds, Levi let out a groan of pleasure, “You’re so wet, cadet. I’ve barely touched you.”
“Captain, I need this,” you begged, your hands wrapping around his neck to pull him flush against you. “Please, distract me, make me forget.”
Levi felt no need to answer your pleads, instead allowing his fingers to familiarize himself with your most intimate of parts. His eyes stayed trained on yours, taking in every expression you made, one catching his focus immediately as his pointer finger circled the top of your folds. It felt like a button, and you started moaning desperately as he continued his circling.
“Feels good?” your captain asked, insecurity in the back of his mind.
“Yes,” you took your right hand away from Levi’s neck, grabbing his wrist that was in between your legs, dipping his fingers to your dripping entrance. “Need you here.”
He plunged his pointer and middle fingers in, and your velveteen walls clenched around him. You had pleasured yourself many times just like this, but the heightened pleasure of someone else’s knuckles deep inside you was incredible. No one had ever touched you like this before, looked at you so lovingly and so lustfully. His fingers scissored inside you, and you knew your patience would soon snap.
When Levi’s fingers curled upwards, you thought you were going to pass out. Your eyes screwed shut as loud mewls left your lips, Levi’s free hand covering your mouth. Your hips bucked upwards in his touch, hips rolling fast as your clit caught the fat of his palm. You could feel the familiar bubble of your climax, threatening to spill over as you arched your back.
Levi pulled his fingers from your weeping cunt then, so agonizingly slowly, “No, cadet. Not yet.”
You whined, pressure settling down in your abdomen as Levi took his soaking hand to his hard cock. You couldn’t believe that you hadn’t paid attention to his girth before, he was gorgeous. All the hard work and all the violence had sculpted your captain as if he were a statue. His length stood at full attention, pressed against his belly, his balls hanging in the free space between his thick thighs. You moaned at the sight of Levi stroking himself, seeing the glisten of your arousal coat him. He let out a strangled groan, before letting himself go, falling unceremoniously to capture your lips once again.
“You ready?” Levi asked permission, his kiss so sweet and tender, and you realized then the weight of all of this. You were about to lose your virginities to each other, he would forever hold a mark on you.
You smiled, so full of adoration, there wasn’t anyone else you’d rather be with right now as you spoke, “Yes, sir.”
Levi gripped the base of his dick, bumping the engorged head against your sensitive clit and through your folds as he coated himself more in your essence. You both knew this was going to hurt you, and had either of you not been in such a hurry, you’d take the time to mutually pleasure each other until your bodies were truly ready for this intimate act. There were no coherent thoughts in this moment, only pure passion and animalistic desire.
His tip sunk in, and you felt like you were going to be split in half. Your hands shot up to his arms, nails leaving half crescents on his biceps, your ankles hooking together on his ass as you tensed up at the pain.
“Relax,” he kissed your jaw with a groan. “Gonna’ take care of you.”
You nodded, focusing on his words instead of the pain. Your pelvic floor relaxed, and Levi was able to push himself deeper into your cavern.
“There’s no blood?” Levi questioned you curiously as he glanced down to where your bodies met, not moving even a centimeter to allow you to adjust.
The pain was quickly fading as you mumbled, “Probably broke my hymen on a goddamn horse.”
You both let out a breathy laugh, and Levi’s right hand came to stroke your cheek, pushing back your hair out of your face, “I’ll have to kill that horse then.”
You were rattling your brain for a witty response to your captain when Levi shifted, stroking his length backwards as your walls fluttered around him. Your face was no longer scrunched in pain, your eyebrows unfurrowed and your mouth hung open, feeling nothing but pleasure as his left hand shot to your pulsing pussy, thumbing your clit with the lightest of touches.
“Captain,” you stuttered, eyes rolling to the back of your head. “Feels good.”
“Yeah,” he pushed his forehead to yours, his own eyes closing as he pushed his cock back into your depths, so slowly.
You placed a gentle kiss to his lips for a brief moment, neck craning off the pillow under your head. You felt a cramp as he kissed you back, so gently and so softly. You moved your mouth to his jaw, peppering kisses along any exposed skin you reach.
His right hand stayed positioned to your face, his grey colored orbs opened, focusing on your face. You looked up then, and felt your heart hammering in your chest. Levi was so handsome, his eyebrows furrowed, eyes softened without the weight of reality crashing down on him.
“I’m glad it’s you,” your arms were still wrapped around his neck as you rubbed soft circles along the ridge of his undercut. His hips held such a passionate, steady rhythm as he continued plunging into you.
Levi didn’t respond, his hand angling your face to his again. Although unspoken, you could see in his face that he appreciated your words, his thrusts faster in pace now. You couldn’t stop the moans from exiting your throat, volume increasing as his thumb worked you with more pressure. He swallowed your noises with his lips, not even kissing, the two of you just breathing into one another’s mouth.
Suddenly the distance wasn’t close enough, Levi’s hand left the curve of your cheek to wrap his arm around the middle of your back, forcing your body completely against his sweating one. His lips began to work against yours, sloppy and messy as you kissed the man back with the same fever.
Levi’s pace was solid, deep and without error. Your hips tried desperately to meet his thrusts, his wrist in between your centers blocking you from doing so. Your captain didn’t even so much as warn you to stop, his thumb rolling faster against your now swollen clit, that same heat in your stomach rebuilding rapidly. The two of you were so lost in each other, your arms leaving his neck to wrap around his shoulders and forcing his head down to your neck where he lapped and peppered kisses to conceal his own moans. You did the same, lips attached to the curve where his muscular shoulder met his neck.
His touch was unrelenting, but you felt the unmistakable shutter as he plunged right to your cervix, goosebumps rising on his skin under your fingertips. You let out a muffled moan, your nails clawing at his back, your legs somehow tighter around his backside.
Levi’s thumb rubbed harder, so much faster now than his thrusts. Your pussy was fluttering rapidly now, clenching and unclenching around his girth, you were so close. You had a feeling your captain was as well, his pace increasing even faster.
“I’m cumming,” you pulled away from his shoulder to warn Levi, sucking the sensitive area of his neck.
Levi moaned in pleasure, bucking his hips hard into you, and this was what sent you over the edge. Levi couldn’t move even if he wanted to as your cunt gripped him so tightly, contracting so hard around his length. You could hear a string of curses and ‘ah’s from his lips as your hips bucked wildly into his hand, rubbing your clit along his stilled thumb. You’d had plenty of self given orgasms before, but feeling completely filled as your walls fluttered around something was a pleasure you knew you’d be seeking again.
Your teeth were sunk into his neck, and Levi was finally able to continue his strokes as your orgasm slowed, your body limping. His thumb started once more, and you were whimpering at the overstimulation, your contractions not even done. He was pounding into you now, growling into your neck, you could feel the sharp clench of his jaw dig into your shoulder. It didn’t take you more than a minute to build up another orgasm, and as the new waves of pleasure slammed into you, Levi was pulling out.
You came around nothing as Levi rutted into your stomach, feeling the smear of hot cum rub against your middles. He was bucking desperately, moaning and whimpering. The sounds he made paired with the nonstop movement of his thumb only heightened your pleasure, your left hand coming to caress the back of his head.
He removed his touch from you, taking his dripping hand to your waist as his thrusts against your stomach slowed. It crawled under your back to meet his other arm, and he placed sensual, slow kisses to your neck. You did the same, thanking him non verbally. His head lifted, eyes half lidded as he placed his lips to yours, locking them in a saccharine embrace. He pulled away after a few moments, sliding off of your sticky body and out of the bed. Your arms fell to your sides, and he slipped his pants on, avoiding the area of his lower stomach where his cum was drying quickly. He rushed to his dresser, pulling out a handkerchief and wiping himself down quickly, returning back to your body to clean your middle as well.
“You’ll probably need to shower,” Levi broke the silence as he pulled the rag away, his empty hand roaming the curve of your side.
“Probably,” you mumbled in bliss, enjoying his light touch. “I’ll get up in just a minute.”
“You could stay,” Levi offered awkwardly, halting his movements.
“It’s okay, I think I want to be alone,” you smiled, your brain foggy. “Also don’t need rumors to start up if anyone sees me leaving your room in the morning.”
Levi only hummed as you pulled your naked body to a full stand, reaching for your discarded clothes. You pulled your long sleeve over your head first, the edges brushing against the tops of your thighs, stepping into your panties and shorts quickly. The silence was almost overwhelming, neither of you sure of what exactly to say.
“Captain Levi,” you finally spoke, ready to depart. “Thank you.”
He grabbed your wrist, pulling your body to his with no real force, kissing you passionately. You kissed him back hungrily, and had you been more experienced, you would’ve felt the flicker of sparks deep within your stomach, a signal of unconscious feelings sprouting within you.
You pulled away from him, a smile playing at your lips as he spoke raspily, “You know where to go if you don’t want to be alone.”
You threaded your fingers through his open palm, bringing his knuckles to your lips as you placed a soft peck to the back of his hand, “I will, Captain. Goodnight.”

The heat of the sun beat harshly on your back, your body in a full ache as you dodged a punch from Eren. You went to lift your leg into a kick, a yelp leaving your lips at the feeling that you were going to rip in half, and quickly shifted your hips to plan a new attack. Thankfully, your fake out worked, seeing Eren prepare himself for your leg, not for your first to go flying into his gut.
With a loud groan of pain, Eren laid flat on his back in the dirt. Your chests heaved, sweat dripping down your skin, and you extended your palm to the younger boy. You had won this spar, and Eren huffed as he smacked his hand away playfully.
“I had you last time! I can’t believe I lost again!” he complained, eyebrows furrowed as he screwed his eyes shut in a fit.
You laughed then, crossing your arms over your chest, “You got lucky, Jaeger.”
Around the two of you, all the cadets were still in their own sparring matches. Even in your weary state, you had been the first match finished, and you feel a swell of pride. You were getting stronger, more fit to survive the harsh reality of this world.
“Cadets,” Captain Levi made himself known then, stepping forward from the row of squad leaders, unbeknownst to you and Eren he had been watching with a trained eye the entire fight.
“Captain!” you saluted, Eren lazily following along silently.
Levi’s eyes lingered over you for a minute, before shifting his attention to Eren before scoffing, “Pathetic, Jaeger. You need to work on your form.”
You tried desperately to hide a smirk, eyes lit up in amusement as Eren frowned deeply, sighing, trying not to lash out on your superior. Levi continued, “Cadet, good job.”
“Thank you, Captain,” you smiled brightly, now trying to conceal the oncoming heat of your blush flaming up your neck, licking the tips of your ears.
“However, never let your guard down after you think you’ve won.”
The sound of your skull cracking into the ground beneath you sent your vision in a dizzy frenzy. Levi hovered over you, and you could make out the lingering feeling of his boot hitting your stomach, causing you to lay flat on your back. The sun was high in the sky today, not a single cloud in view or whisk of wind felt.
“Ow,” you heaved, bringing yourself into a seated position, hunched over. “What was that for?”
“You can’t always predict what a titan’s next move is going to be,” Levi cooly explained, crouching down to meet your eye level. “This is how you fucked up, both times, with an abnormal. You have to pay attention. You can’t let yourself get caught up in a victory. Understood, brat?”
You nodded, feeling your ears grow hot as multiple sets of eyes watched on in curiosity, “Yes, sir.”
“I’ll see you in my office after dinner for your punishment,” his eyes twinkled, a hint of a smirk on the corner of his lips. “Cockiness is not befitting for a brat like you.”
You groaned, biting your tongue to hold back words you knew would come across as disrespectful. You didn’t see what you did to deserve a punishment, but you huffed as Levi strolled away, yelling at Eren about something. Probably about his smirk when he watched you fall on your ass.

Turns out your punishment was anything but, instead a much rougher fucking left your body nearly in shambles. This became a routine, instead of traveling outside to stare at the stars and lose yourself in your thoughts, Levi’s body became your comfort, your relief. He felt the same, pouring his loneliness into your willing body as he claimed you night after night, week after week.
He’d tell you sometimes in the afterglow of your orgasms that this was strengthening the squad, this was for the betterment of the scouts. Because what better way was there to build trust? You’d listen half heartedly, knowing this was all an excuse to rationalize why you continued seeking each other’s comfort.
Levi was soon fiercely protective of you, and you unconsciously him. This was reinforced after the 57th expedition failed horribly, the faces of your deceased squad members haunting your dreams every night. Levi would hold you as you sobbed through the nightmares. It hurt, so fucking much. Levi would whisper to you that you just had to keep moving forward. You would nod your head and listen. Your captain knew best, and you were finding it harder every passing day to pretend that he didn’t.
You didn’t try to make sense of your relationship, just letting it exist. Some days you’d push him away, others you’d pull the ravenette closer to your body. Caught between wanting to leave the man you’d realized you’d fallen in love with, or go into hiding away from the military with Levi and marry the son of a bitch. You liked to think he felt the same, his words few, but his acts spoke volumes of his feelings.
And when you laid limp on the battlefield, titan corpses steaming around you, your breaths shallow as your tired body began to prepare to shut down, you smiled. Everything all at once came flooding to you as you stared up at the sky, completely alone.
You blinked at the clouds, painted so pretty in pinks and oranges at the setting sun. You could hear your name being screamed somewhere in the distance, the voice vaguely familiar. You felt relief wash over you as the large open wound on your stomach gushed an unbelievable amount of blood. Full of shock, your adrenaline keeping your pain at bay, you thought humorously that you had no idea you had that much blood running through your body.
Raven hair and charcoal eyes entered your hazy vision, and you kept that smile on your face. Your fingers reached up, reaching Levi’s soaking cheek, not being able to tell if it was because of blood, or tears. You smoothed your thumb under his eye, and you were being lifted. You couldn’t hear his words, only the dullness of sound as the world continued to slow around you.
You stared at the clouds, completely at peace. You had conquered your biggest fear, growing close to another, just to lose them. Images of Levi flashes before your eyes, his stoic expression, his commanding leadership, his sensual caresses, his passionate kisses as he poured all of his feelings out for you. You loved him, you realized. You were so happy that you got to experience this in this lifetime.
The colors of the sky blurred together, and you could feel the wind whisk around you as Levi shot off on his odm gear. You were finally flying in the clouds.

Cry-Baby
A commissioned continuation of this soulmate AU by the lovely @pokemonfreak666 - thanks for your patience, bby!!
Bakugou Katsuki x Female Reader, Kirishima Eijiro x Female Reader
TW non-con, nsfw, double penetration, rough fucking, minor mentions of blood, kidnapping
The water’s not hot enough.
It should be; it should burn. The knob’s twisted all the way up, steam rising in billowing clouds, fogging up the bathroom mirror, but it’s not hot enough. You can still feel them on you. Everything else – the blood, saliva, their cum, you’d watched it swirl down the drain, sitting on the shower floor, arms curled tightly around yourself as if that was the only thing keeping you from falling apart and shattering entirely.
But the water’s scalding, and you can still feel your soulmates’ hands crawling over you…  their mouths… their cocks tearing you apart from the inside out. Why won’t it wash away? You’ve scrubbed and scrubbed, your skin’s red and raw but the filthy feeling won’t go.
And they’re just outside. Sitting in your bedroom, or maybe wandering around your living room, sprawled across your couch flipping through channels on the TV. Maybe they’re out there looking at the pictures that line your walls, you and your family, your friends. Fuck, maybe they’re in your kitchen, rifling through your fridge for a late night snack after fucking their soulmate six ways from Sunday.
You can’t go back out there. You don’t want to see them.
Is it awful to hope for some kind of horrifying villain attack or massive accident to force them to go and leave you in peace?
… Would they?
You can’t imagine Pro Heroes not running off to do their duty, but before a few hours ago, you couldn’t imagine them holding somebody down and raping them either, and clearly they had no qualms about doing that, so maybe your Heroes aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
Then again, what difference would leaving make? They know where you live, probably where you work. There’s no anonymity anymore, it’s not like you can just slip away and hide from them.
You’ve been in the bathroom too long already, you know that – you can almost feel their anxious energy seeping through the crack in the door. Too much longer and they’ll surely come bursting in.
Patience clearly wasn’t their strong point, and it’s nothing short of a miracle they let you come in and shower alone. Kirishima at least had been more than eager to come join you, grinning widely and tugging you by the arm towards the bathroom– it’d been Bakugou, watching you pale and flinch through red, unreadable eyes who’d reined him back in.
Maybe he saw how scared you were, how fragile the thread that was holding you together was. Maybe he thought that gifting you these precious minutes alone after what they did would in any way come close to starting to mend the damage they’d just wrought.
Maybe he just hadn’t cared enough beyond getting his dick wet.
You’d grown up thinking your soulmates would make you happy, love you in a way that nobody else ever could. The possibility of ever deliberately hurting them seemed like such a foreign and uncomfortable concept to you. But obviously they didn’t care enough about your feelings or your lack of consent to stop them from forcing themselves onto you, maybe you were nothing but an object to them. Something to take and fuck, because naturally you were made for them.
What did it matter if you didn’t want it?
Your eyes drift down to the timers on your wrists, run down to zero. A quaking sob rips from your throat and you bite down harshly on your bottom lip to stifle it.
“Why am I even here? In less than an hour you’re gonna meet them, and what am I supposed to do then, hmm?” your friend had asked with a laugh. “Be the world’s most awkward fourth wheel?”
You’d laughed with her, knocking your shoulders against hers with a fond little smile, “Well if they’re gonna be in my life for the long haul, don't you think it’s important that they meet the person who matters to me the most right off the bat?”
You’re terrified of going back out there and facing them, but what other option do you have? The only window in the bathroom is too high and too small to squeeze through, and even if you could, getting an apartment on the seventh floor had seemed like a great idea at the time, but it doesn’t exactly lend itself to an easy getaway.
The flimsy lock on the bathroom door is all that’s keeping them out – with their strength it’s hardly much of a barrier at all, but it’s all you have.
Here in your bathroom, under the scalding water, you’re safe. They can’t hurt you.
You’d like to think that now they’ve gotten what they wanted, now that they know that you can’t run and their reputations can’t be tarnished, they’ll go. And there’s a little voice inside your head that tells you it’s a stupid, foolish hope. You know that the moment you set foot outside that door, things’ll never be the same again.
A few years back, you read an article on some tabloid website about an up and coming Hero who’d disappeared out of the blue after joining Hawks’ agency as an intern. Supposedly, they were soulmates, and once the Pro realised it, he’d swooped her up and taken her to some secret safe house to hide her away from the rest of the world, supposedly ‘for her own protection’. It was all rumours, of course. No way for them to actually prove the theory – and no one actually cared about some missing, low level Hero at the end of the day. It was news for a week and then everybody moved on.
Are they gonna do the same thing to you?
Spirit you away to some hideout where they can keep you all to themselves – so they can fuck you whenever they want without having to worry about you running off? You’ll never see your family again, or your friends… they’ll be your entire world, and just like that intern, everybody else will forget you ever existed.
Or maybe they’ll be satisfied enough just forcing themselves into your life, letting you go back to your job, your boring, mundane nine to five, never knowing when they’re going to pop up and take what they want. They’ll come over and play house, acting as if this is a normal relationship, waiting for you to come around and accept them.
Love them.
The thoughts makes bile rise in your throat. Your entire body aches from inside out. There’s bitemarks and bruises littering your skin, marks that won’t fade for days… you can’t let them do this to you again.
As if they can hear your panicked thoughts, a knock sounds on the bathroom door, and your heart clenches.
“Hey, babe?” Kirishima calls out, “You okay? You’ve kinda been in there a while…”
That same voice, chanting breathlessly above you, “I love you, I love you– f-fuck– I love you!”
Panic, cloying and sharp tears at you. You try to answer, tell him to leave you alone, that you need more time, but the words catch in your throat and all that comes out is a pitiful squeak and he knocks again, louder, more insistent and it’s too much.
They're gonna break down the door and hurt you again. Hot tears well up and spill down your cheeks with an audible sob, and you clutch at yourself tighter, willing them away–
“Babe? Talk to us, sweetheart, you’re making us worried.”
The door handle jiggles insistently, and you bury your face between your knees breathing rapidly, they’re gonna break it down, they’re gonna break it down, they’re gonna–
“Move, Kiri,” Bakugou snaps.
You don’t register the snap of the lock breaking or the frantic footsteps that approach, the harsh sound of your heaving gasps drowning out all else. Then suddenly there’s strong, muscular arms pulling you out from the water with a muffled curse.
It’s Kirishima who’s holding you, you realise as a flash of blond darts back behind you to turn the shower off. And it’s suffocating, the way he clutches at you, big hands running along your back, pulling you closer, holding you tighter, words of comfort you can’t hear over the pounding of your own heart spilling from his lips.
And then Bakugou’s face is filling your vision, the scowl on his face growing more pronounced as he studies you – shaking, teary, eyes wide and swimming with fear–
Something inside of you just gives and you don’t fight it when the darkness swallows you whole.
When you come to, you’re lying on something soft – a bed, you realise, but not your own. There’s an arm slung over your waist; corded with muscles, tan, covered in fine, golden hair and faint white scars; Bakugou’s.
Which means that the warm breath gently tickling at your neck must belong to him as well.
You’re not naked at least; a quick glance down at your body revealing they’d dressed you in one of your old tees and a pair of panties. You’re not sure whether that observation is supposed to calm or unnerve you; you’d rather be clothed than not, but the thought of your soulmates rifling through your things, dressing you while you were unconscious… is not a pleasant one.
“You’re awake.” It’s an observation, not a question.  His voice is gruff, an edge of sleepiness clinging to the words, but it lacks the heat you’ve come to expect from the explosive Hero. He sounds comfortable almost – at least that’s the sense you get as his face presses up against the nape of your neck, his arm drawing you closer with a low groan.
Still, you haven’t uttered a sound.
It feels surreal, lying there in your captor’s arms – and he is your captor, soulmate or no, there’s no denying that fact anymore. There’s a part of you that realises that you should be panicking, kicking scratching and clawing because you don’t know where you are, but it’s certainly not your apartment and you definitely don’t want him touching you after what he’s already put you through.
But rather than the sheer, unrelenting panic that had gripped you before, it’s just… nothing. Dormant, lying simmering just below the surface, and you’re almost scared to draw breath, to shatter the sweet, tender facade between the two of you.
There’s no point in asking where you are, no point in demanding he let you go. They’ve shown you that what you want doesn’t matter here, so instead you ask the obvious question.
“Where’s Kirishima?”
Bakugou grunts, burrowing himself closer. It’s not cold in the room, but his bare skin burns like a furnace, just on the wrong side of comfortable. “Makin’ breakfast.”
Breakfast.
You swallow tightly, but Bakugou isn’t done.
“Scared the shit out of us, fainting like that,” he scoffs. “Should’a fuckin’ known you’d need us to come take care of you.”
His fingers, resting over your stomach, dip lower, sliding roughly beneath the hem of your panties as he grinds his hips along your ass. He’s hard already, you can feel every inch of it, long and thick pressing insistently up against you.
Shame and indignation flare up like a match struck, but before you can even open your mouth to snap a retort, Bakugou yanks his hand out of your underwear to stuff his fingers inside your mouth.
Your first instinct is to bite down, but the blond at your back just growls, “Suck,” and you’re not stupid enough to think that hurting him (or trying to at least) is going to stop what’s about to happen.
Or maybe you’re just scared to test exactly how far you can push them before they really hurt you.
Obediently, your tongue swirls around his thick digits, hollowing out your cheeks and earning a grunt of appreciation from your soulmate.
“Always thought that my soulmate was gonna be someone strong,” he mutters, his hips still rocking up against yours. “Somebody who could keep up with Kiri ‘n me, hold their own in a fight. Never thought you’d be some weak as shit, quirkless little cry-baby.”
It stings more than it has any right to.
Slowly, his fingers slide from your lips, a long, thin glistening strand of saliva connecting the two. It’s hard to fight the whine that escapes you as they return to your pussy, angrily shoving aside your panties before thinking better of it and ripping them off of you completely. The warm puff of breath that ghosts across your skin sends shivers down your spine, and though you can’t see his face when he speaks next you can tell that he’s grinning.
“But fuck, sweetheart, you’re goddamn perfect – everythin’ we didn’t know we needed.”
He kisses you as his index and middle fingers plunge eagerly into your cunt, not the rough, biting kisses he’d gifted you with the night before, no. These are almost tender, sweet – or at least as sweet as a monster like Bakugou is capable of – entirely at odds with way his calloused fingers curl inside of you, fucking you, stretching you out while he cruelly thumbs at your clit.
Katsuki wants you strung out and whining for him. For Kirishima.
He wants you helpless.
“We’re gonna keep you nice ‘n safe, baby. Won’t have to worry about a goddamn fucking thing ‘cept keepin’ your soulmates happy.”
It sounds more like the passing of a sentence than a reassurance, but you can’t tell him that you don’t want this. He knows – he has to by now. He just doesn't care.
You don’t hear it when Kiri comes back, not when Bakugou’s sucking at your neck, your pussy throbbing with need as his fingers drive relentlessly into you, hitting your g-spot with every flick of his wrist.
You might not have noticed the redhead lingering in the doorway, his cock tenting in his pants, eyes dark and glazed over as he watches the show unfolding before him, but Bakugou certainly does.
“Oi, shitty hair. You just gonna stand there and watch or are you actually gonna fucking do something?” His voice is rough and a little breathless, closer to a growl than speech – it makes your gut clench, a shiver run down along your spine.
When your eyes finally do meet Kirishima’s, your heart squeezes, your stomach flipping. Kirishima’s staring at you like a wolf readying itself to pounce, like he wants to devour every inch of you and savour the taste.
He grins widely, pink tongue darting out to lick his lips.
Bakugou’s the one with the bad reputation – as explosive as his quirk, brash at the best of times and overly aggressive even with his friends – you have every reason to be terrified of him, even before he broke into your home to take you.
Kirishima might be kinder, gentler with his touches (at least, he tries to be), but you’re a fool if you think you’re any safer with the redhead.
“Thought you said you were gonna wait,” he says, advancing towards the two of you as he kicks out of his shorts, but the grin on his face doesn’t waver for a second. He’s not nearly as put out as he pretends. “I could hear the pretty little thing moaning all the way in the kitchen.”
Shame would be enough to flood your cheeks with heat, but it’s the sight of Kiri’s cock, flushed an angry red, veiny and thick, hanging heavy between his muscular thighs that does the job. The spit in your mouth dries, your heart thumping unevenly even as pleasure pools in your gut courtesy of Bakugou’s attention. You let out a sharp shriek as he quickens his pace, one hand reaching to grab at his wrist, the other clutching desperately for purchase at the bedsheets, but it’s not enough.
Heat burns at your core, and unwittingly, you find your hips bucking up against him, fervently searching for more.
At your back, the blond chuckles, you feel the deep vibrations echoing through your chest, “Yeah, well you were taking too long.”
There might be more that he says, but at that moment he slides a third finger into your dripping cunt, calloused fingertips slamming against your tight, gummy walls and you’re robbed of the ability to think.
Your first orgasm hits you like a tidal wave, the building pleasure snapping like an elastic band stretched too far. A strangled moan slips out of your lips, and you don’t even notice the teeth sinking into your shoulder, Bakugou once more staking his claim as you cum for him. You quiver and quake in his grip, your cunt tightening around his digits and sucking them in further with a lewd squelching sound that you might be more embarrassed about if you could focus on anything but the pleasurable aftershocks of your peak.
All the while, Kirishima drinks you in, salivating at the sight of your drooling, fucked out expression, the syrupy slick that’s all but dripping out around Bakugou’s thick fingers, still stuffed deep inside of your pussy.
And maybe if he were a better man, he might allow you a moment to breathe and hurtle back down to earth, but patience has never been a virtue of his. He lunges forward faster than a man of his size has any right to, jumping onto the bed and all but tearing you out of Bakugou’s hold. You’re still reeling, panting and sore and dizzy with pleasure as Kirishima’s lips crash against yours, stealing what little breath you have left in a burning kiss.
Your attention’s caught on the way his tongue’s sliding against yours, trying to coax you into kissing back, the sharp, minty taste of him – you miss the way he grasps at his flushed, leaking cock, dragging it along your puffy slit. You miss the sound of Bakugou shedding his own pants.
You’re still weakly trying to push at his chest when Kiri slides his cock into your warm, welcoming cunt, his low, guttural moan lost to your lips. And despite Bakugou’s attempts at preparing you, it still burns, the sheer girth of his fat cock filling you up and stretching you uncomfortably. Tears sting at your eyes, a whimper catching in your throat as he hums in pleasure, grabbing your hips and pulling you closer, impaling you further onto his length.
Yet you’re not given a moment to accommodate the massive cock inside of you – not as you feel another blunt, flushed cockhead pressing up against your already stuffed pussy. Realisation hits a moment too late, your face blanching, your heart skipping a beat as panic – sheer panic – chokes at you.
You try to push back from Kiri’s embrace, only to feel Bakugou once again pressing up against your back, trapping you between them. You squirm in vain, trying to kick and push, fighting even as the blond’s cock, not as girthy as Kirishima’s but still far too big for you to take with Kiri still inside of you, starts to force its way into your plush, velvety walls.
“F-fuck, she’s tight,” he grunts as you arch up against Kiri, your tits, still covered by your thin, cotton tee, squishing up against his bare chest in an attempt to writhe away from the overwhelming feeling of fullness, the burning, stinging, throbbing pain between your legs.
But your soulmates are far from considerate, not even as you start to wail, your nails raking down the redhead’s broad shoulders.
“Your pussy’s a fuckin’ dream,” he continues, swearing with a hiss as he finally bottoms out.
It’s too much, you feel like you’re being split in two. Every twitch and throb of their dicks, every vein, every inch of them is pressed too tightly against you, your walls struggling to take them both. It hurts, it hurts, it hurts, oh god it hurts so fucking bad, but neither one of them care as you start to sob–
No, Kiri just kisses away your tears, taking your face in his large hands and cooing sweetly when you beg them through gasping, heaving sobs to stop.
“You’re doing so good for us, baby. Look how well you’re taking our cocks – it’s like you were made for us,” he laughs at his own stupid joke, and all you can focus on is the pain as he starts to draw his hips back, your oversensitive walls screaming in protest. “We’re gonna make you feel so fucking amazing, just wait.”
And it’s not his wide, beaming grin that shatters you, or even the hunger blazing in those crimson depths. It’s not Bakugou panting at your back, his hands coming up to shove your top up so he can palm greedily at your tits, or even the lewd almost feral sounds the explosion Hero’s making as he and Kirishima settle into a maddening rhythm, not allowing you a moment to catch your breath and steady yourself as they fuck you.
No, it’s the sheer, feverish love you can see written across his face clear as day, the softness with which he holds you, even as he chases his own pleasure.
This is their version of love, and you – quirkless, weak as shit and entirely at their mercy – have no hope in hell of escaping it.

You had picked the perfect evening gown. It billowed behind you, and you received many compliments from it. It was your favorite color, and it matched your complexion. You had done up your hair. You carried your clutch tightly to your side. Although you were sure the rumors were only rumors, if there was any place they’d be disproved, it was at the Marvel Gala.
It was hosted every year by Tony Stark. He took business seriously. On top of the Asgardian mob rumors, you had heard he had some deals with the Odinson family. Whether or not the Odinson family ran a mob, they were still dangerous in court. Their lawsuit could mean the loss of your entire company. You shivered to yourself, glad that you had yet to make any sort of dealings with Valaskjalf Enterprises.
You grabbed a flute of champagne off of a tray. You tried not to down the whole thing at once, but this was a nerve-wracking experience. You could make acquaintances that could — no, would — change your entire career. You smoothed your dress out in hopes of wiping your clammy hands away.
“Miss? Would you like to dance?” a deep voice asked behind you. You froze, slowly turning around.
Before you was a tall, broad, blond hunk of handsome with a thundering presence. He wore a crisp suit, and his face and hair were kept in an almost pretty manner. He was elegant, yet bold. He was massive, but perfect. You tried not to stare, but you found you couldn’t blink. The man smirked, extending his hand.
“Miss?” he laughed.
You shook yourself out of your daze, remembering why you were at the gala in the first place. “I apologize; who are you?” you asked, smiling awkwardly. “I don’t like to dance without knowing someone’s name.”
“My name is Thor,” he said. You set your flute down on an empty tray passing by, taking his hand. He tugged you to the dancefloor. “What is your name?”
“I’m Y/N L/N,” you say. “I’m the CEO of—”
“I know what company,” he cut you off, his eyes lighting up. “I was rather impressed when Father told us how far your little company had been progressing. Had I known the simple surname I’d been hearing was yours, why, I don’t even think we would be standing here.” He chuckled darkly. He began swaying with you as the music swelled. You shook at his tone. What could that mean? Who was Thor? “The other family business would have contacted you. You have a lot of potential at L/N Advancements.”
Oh.
Of course.
“You’re... Forgive me, I should have remembered. Thor Odinson,” you said nervously. You shook your head, unable to meet his eyes. Of course, the mobster would find you. Of course, the mobster would find you! Of course!
“Yes. I’ll assure you, no rumors you’ve heard are quite like the real deal.” He snaked his hand to the small of your back. “My brother often likes to... exaggerate our side company’s deals. I should really get you back to the business talk, but I want to keep you to myself a little longer.” Thor grinned a model’s grin. “Unless you’re scared of me, that is.”
“Oh, I’m not scared of you,” you said. You realized you still had your clutch in your grasp. That alone disproved your point. Thor took it from you, setting it on an empty table.
“You aren’t?”
“Maybe I was scared of getting mugged,” you admitted. “It’s silly.”
“I think the only thing you should be scared of is how you’re getting home tomorrow,” he flirted, pulling you closer. Much, much closer.
You put distance between yourself and the heir of Valaskjalf. “I don’t do that. I won’t. Sorry. I barely know you, and I’ve worked too hard to slip up or give in. I hope you can understand.”
Thor, who was taking the rejection as if it never happened, only smiled brighter. “You’re scared that I’ll take L/N Advancements away from you with just a night together?”
“I’m scared your father might decide I’m not worth trading with once he finds out I’ve done a little more than speak with his son,” you said in your firmest tone. Thor laced your fingers. You didn’t pull away from that.
“But he might decide you’re worth keeping around.” He stroked your cheek, moving to his own beat now. The music didn’t match your rhythm, but it was still as intoxicating. “I could get rid of all your enemies, you know. I could make you untouchable.”
“I’m not interested,” you said. You shook your head. “I need a drink.”
“You just downed a whole flute of champagne!” he tsked.
“I still need one.” You lingered in Thor’s presence. He smelled of petrichor and fine cologne and a tiny bit of sulfur and something else that you couldn’t pick out. He hummed happily, as if he were drunk. He didn’t smell of alcohol, but his behavior could fool you in a second.
“You’re quite the prey,” he murmured. “I’ll get you a drink. I’ll get you multiple.”
“I can get my own drink,” you insisted. “Please, Mr. Odinson, I’m happy to be by myself.”
“You should relax,” he, too, insisted. He gripped your upper arms, taking you in once again. “Really. Don’t let your fear stop you from having fun.”
“I’ll do what I like.” You tore away from Thor. “Thank you fror the dance, but I have to go talk to Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.”
“Have fun mingling!” He caught your hand and kissed it. You felt your belly set itself on fire. Did Thor want one night? Clearly. But what did he want from a night? Did he want information about your business? Or did he want to take advantage? Did he want to use you, and let you use him in the same manner? “I’ll see you some other time, darling.”
“Don’t clear your schedule,” you warned.
Thor chuckled, “I’ll remember that.”
That didn’t stop him from following you around all night. He was by your side as if he was your partner. Whatever he had decided, it wasn’t going to change without a piece of paper signed by a judge...
Given that he was admittedly not only part of the city’s biggest mob, but a higher member, you couldn’t obtain that.
+-+--
Months later, and after many calls from Thor Odinson (who you did not offer your personal number), you finally started to cave. You let him have dinner with you. You took walks in the city during the daytime. You found he was a sensitive person, and almost three years of talking and dancing and Marvel Galas came and went before your first kiss.
Thor took a small sip of white wine, staring at you with electric blue eyes that you always got lost in. “Did I ever apologize for our first meeting?”
You shook your head. “I don’t think so,” you answered. “I didn’t think you cared enough to remember it...”
“If I wasn’t in love with you,” Thor began, “I wouldn’t have stayed for as long as I intend to.”
“It’s been three years,” you whispered. “How long do you intend to stay?”
Thor wet his lips. “As long as you let me.” He reached over, cupped your face, and brought your mouth to his.
That was when the first kidnapping happened.
The room was dark. Your hair was being pulled back by meaty hands behind you. Your clothes were torn, and your eyes wouldn’t stop shedding tears.
“Ms. L/N,” a deep voice mused. “It’s an honor to meet you. I’m glad my brother has someone to entertain him that doesn’t include a mortal injury... Since that nurse hit him with her car, he hasn’t quite been the same.”
“What are you talking about?” you asked the voice, wheezing and stifling a sob. You sniffled. “I don’t know why I’m here...”
“You’re here so we can talk.” A small light switched on. You saw a raven-haired man sitting in a small chair, one leg crossed over the other like the Joker. “Do you intend on strengthening your company with my family’s conglomerate?”
“No,” you said. You were shaking. You tried to look back at the meaty hands that held your head, but whoever it was made sure you watched the man. “No, I want to make it with my own merit. I don’t want to be absorbed...”
“Do you plan on staying away from legal trouble by making my brother dearest your... intended?” he continued, pulling a gun from behind him. He cocked it, keeping his cool eyes on you. He aimed. “If I think you’re lying, I’ll shoot. And trust me... I know a liar when I see one.”
“No!” you said again. “No, I don’t!”
His expression never changed. He rolled his neck, then studied you some more. “Name your favorite thing about Thor.”
“His laugh.” You gulped. “I love when he laughs... really laughs. When he doubles over, cries, and then giggles about it hours later.”
The man sat back, turning off the safety. “Name his favorite drink.”
“Locally brewed beer.”
“What’s my name?” His forefinger slipped in front of the trigger.
“Loki!” Thor’s voice came from outside the room. You sobbed again. The door swung open, and the man stood from his chair. Thor gripped his brother’s lapel, throwing him on the wall. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
Loki growled, dropping the gun on its side. “It wasn’t loaded! Calm down! Jane only wanted to stay for the secrets, I was simply—”
“I don’t care!” he snapped. “You have no right to kidnap her!” He was nose-to-nose with Loki, shaking him as he spoke.
“Thor!” you cried. He swerved his head, letting go of his brother to come and rescue you. He shoved the meaty hands off, throwing a solid punch.
“Come with me,” he said, lifting you into his arms. You wrapped your arms around him, shaking and trying not to cry too much. He held you tightly. He took Loki’s gun off the ground. “Don’t touch her. She’s nothing like Jane, and if you’d listen to me when I talk to you, Father wouldn’t have put you on lackey duty!”
“Take me out of here,” you whispered.
“I can’t,” Thor said. He kissed your head. “This is my life... I love you, but if you can’t handle this...”
You held him tightly. “We should talk about this later...”

Hi!! I loved your recent Sakusa work sm! It was so good and intense and you did a great job!! I was wondering, if the requests & prompts are still open can you do board games & diary for either Sakusa or Atsumu! I’m fine with either one <3
Sorry, I am just too much into both to separate them! Enjoy some good ol’ manipulated double-teaming!
Board games - “Don’t say such means things.. it breaks my heart to put you back in those locks.”
Diary - “My pet should hold no secrets from their owner and vice versa.”
»»———————— ♡ ————————««
It was a hard pill to swallow, but you had to admit that you were growing desperate.
For more than a week now, you had been in the clutches of these two maniacs, had to live through ups and downs with them and alone. Yet, there still didn’t seem to be any signs of an end to this nightmarish episode you were going through. Slowly but surely, this meant you were desperate for change. For something - anything! - to happen, just so all of this would finally end.
You found yourself desperate for the comfort of a bed, the privacy of your own toilet, the warmth of a sweater. Sometimes your mouth remembered your favorite dishes, and your heart remembered the feeling of hugging someone dear to you. And, every time you found yourself craving the same as you had before your life went downhill, all you were faced with were two psychos using your needs for their own gain.
At least, that’s what you thought about this situation.
“Come on! It’s good!” Atsumu tried to make the spoon of soup palatable for you, as he had for the last two days. He did his best, but his best wasn’t good enough for you. Lips pressed together into a thin line, you kept avoiding the spoon, going as far as to dodge and move out of the way of his reach. You’d rather fall to the floor than sit on this couch and eat the damn soup, you decided. Were you not too afraid of the other ghost in this apartment, you would have tried making a run for the hallway and the front door, but they were too unpredictable.
“I can’t believe you’re doing this to me,” you sobbed, the frown on your face holding back the tears you felt burning in your eyes ever since you woke up in this place. “We’ve been friends since our childhood! But I guess I didn’t mean anything to you.”
Finally slipping out of his grip, you fell to your knees, the cold, hard parquet being as unwelcoming as you felt. Atsumu’s disgruntled deep breath was absolutely unjustified how you found. After all, he wasn’t the one being held captive against his will. Of all the people, you were the only one allowed to showcase your discontent like that.
Next to you, Atsumu set down the bowl of soup on the coffee table, a strong, firm grip reaching down to the rope binding your wrists behind your back. Anything was better than letting him do as he pleased. Kicking, screaming, and biting if necessary! But by now, you two were playing a meager game of who was stronger, the lack of sustainable food and rest being one reason why you didn’t always have the upper hand in these situations; thus, he pulled you up on the couch again easily.
“Don’t say such mean things... you mean everything to me, [Name].”
This assurance was least helpful to the constant anxiety raging through you. Before all this, you had trusted Atsumu with everything. You’d been the best friend one could have, got along well with his family. It had been bold of you to assume that he was capable of anything beyond complaining to and nagging you, but you always hoped that he’d one day come to understand the feelings you harbored for him.
But not like this. You didn’t want to be loved by him like this.
“Be nice, or I’ll have to put you back in those metal locks. It would break my heart, and you don’t like them either, do ya?”
You shivered just from thinking about the chains clasping around your wrists and ankles, cold and tight. You hated them, just as much as the cage you had been stuck in for the first few nights. Everything kept you in place. You couldn’t even turn if you wanted. It was followed by constant pain, and having someone treat you like a caged animal rather than a human while you were in there, was only the cherry on top.
Compared to that, just hanging out in the living room with ropes around your wrists was freedom. “No,” you whispered, the fight not having disappeared from your voice, and you were relieved to still have it in you. “See?” Atsumu sighed, pulling you back on the couch and between his legs, arms wrapping around you and keeping you pressed up against him. “It’ll be fine,” he mumbled, kissing the back of your head.
“Just don’t upset him.”
“Upset who?” another voice echoed through the room as if on cue. Instinctively your eyes followed the sound to the kitchen. Through the connecting door to the hallway, Sakusa entered, newspaper in hand and seemingly reading an article on it. “Nobody,” Atsumu was quick to avert, but you had felt the slight flinch he made when his partner spoke up.
“Did they eat?” Sakusa asked, unbothered by the angry glare you sent him and Atsumu’s lie, setting down both paper and coffee mug on the kitchen counter before shifting his attention to you. Three long steps were all he needed to approach the couch from behind, fingers flitting up your throat and to your jaw as he grazed you with a short glance before eyeing the bowl on the table.
“Done with work?” Atsumu asked, pressing you possessively closer to him, but it wasn’t like he could upset Sakusa with his doings, even if it was his intention. “Taxes, Atsumu, but yes. They didn’t eat?”
At that, Atsumu finally had to admit defeat, sighing and averting his eyes to some point in the room but far away from you or his partner. Sakusa let out the same sound, though quieter and with a shook of his head before rounding the couch and grabbing the bowl himself. “Why won’t you eat?” he asked, directing his questions to you now. “You should be thankful for the food you are given.”
“I don’t want it,” you replied, as confident as you could. The truth was that whenever your eyes met, you felt as if any strength you had was pulled from you. It may have been due to the fact you had argued and pleaded with this man for the first few days of your kidnapping, but out of the two, Sakusa was the one that scared you more than your childhood friend who had no backbone, joining forces with this madman.
Letting the soup slide over and from the spoon a few times, Sakusa eventually took a small sip of it, his thoughts hidden well behind the indifference in his expression. “There’s no reason for you to not eat it. It’s completely fine.”
“I don’t want it since it’s you giving it to me.”
Silence raked through the room while Atsumu shuffled behind your back, pressing you closer again. For a moment, you thought this time, it might be to protect you, rather for his own pleasure, and you were quick to realize why. “Are you an idiot?” was Sakusa’s short yet meaningful reply to your defiance, his face scrunching up into disbelieve. “Other people would be happy to have this kind of luxury of being fed.”
“Omi...” Atsumu tried to settle the rising dispute, but a raised hand from his teammate was enough to shut him up uncomfortably. “I’m not other people,” you spoke up for yourself, trying to stay calm and not let him agitate you. “After all, I have to be locked up with you two crazy bastards.”
This time, the silence felt like an eternity. As if it was slowly but surely cutting through your body as if you were butter. Perhaps, you had been too comfortable simply refusing and struggling against them for the last two days, so your mind had already started to forget about the horror you were living in.
“So that’s what you think about us,” was all that Sakusa hissed back at you, his eyes drilling into your psyche like nails. Behind you, Atsumu opened his mouth again, perhaps to set you straight, but no word ever left him, Sakusa being faster than him. “No, it’s fine. A pet should hold no secrets from their owner and vice versa.”
You didn’t expect him to be the first one to avert his eyes, Sakusa’s gaze wandering back to the door in the back of the living room, the very same one you had woken up in before. The one that was filled with ‘your’ kennel and restraints and an unbelievable amount of deprecation. “So I will be very honest with you too.”
Next thing you knew, Sakusa was up again, having reached for your hands still locked between yours and Atsumu’s body. This time, when you fell to the floor, it was anything but controlled, your ass being the first to hit the resistance of the ground, and you gasped in pain as your shoulder slammed into the coffee table. There wasn’t enough time to grasp how your body hurt at that moment, the back of your shirt being tugged at, the fabric pressing into your throat at the front as you were dragged over the floor gasping for air.
“You will be thankful for what we do for you in the future. You don’t have any choice. Until then, you’ll stay in your cage and think about your behavior. Don’t even think about making a ruckus, or you won’t live to see what I will do to you, do you understand?”
Instantly, the dread of feeling the cold, uncomfortable bars against your body made your heart drop in your chest. You couldn’t even get used to the darkness in the boarded-up room without sunlight from the windows when you already heard the lock fall into place.
“No! NO!” you cried out, forgetting all about his warning and slamming yourself towards the only source of light coming from the open door to the living room. “Don’t leave me here again! Please!”
It was pathetic. Using big words just seconds prior to this, and yet, here you were pleading with him to spare you the agony of this place. But despite not wanting to be here, in this apartment, you had a special dislike of being confined in this cold, tiny space all by yourself. You’d rather hang out on the couch, unproductively watching TV with Atsumu all weekend long than having to listen to the clicking of the clock as the only companion you had in this room. You, actually begging to not be left here, was just proof of how desperate you were, scared of the anxiety and degradation you had experienced last time.
“You’ll have enough time to think about your behavior here,” Sakusa sighed, annoyed by your screams. “Learn your place.”
“I do! I know... I just...”
“You know nothing.”
“Omi...” you suddenly heard from the door. Unsure, gripping onto his own arm, Atsumu stood there, the light revealing a conflicted expression playing on his face. “That’s just... It’s too much, man,” he mumbled, and Sakusa let out another deep sigh.
“I told you it wouldn’t be easy, Atsumu. You can still get out if you don’t think you can do it, but don’t pull me down with you. I won’t tell anyone about your involvement if that worries you.”
Standing up, Sakusa seemed to glide out of the shadow, approaching Atsumu who’s gaze shifted from you to his partner in crime. “I’ll take good care of them,” Sakusa promised, though his voice was so indifferent, you had trouble believing that he meant it. “No...” Atsumu eventually spoke up after a moment of contemplation. “I love them just as much- No, I love them more than you. I can’t leave now.”
“Then you understand that this is necessary, right?”
For the first time, as you looked into Atsumu’s eyes, you felt the hints of pity come over you, your old friend looking like a beaten dog next to Sakusa. You barely could believe that Atsumu listened to the manipulative words of someone who should have no rule over your both lives. Someone who didn’t hide how toxic he was at all, but it seemed like Atsumu ate out of his hand as Sakusa held it out to him.
One hand patting Atsumu’s shoulder, Sakusa turned around to you, his scolding, suppressing gaze making you lose all hope of escaping this. He reached for the doorknob, and the only thing you could do was try to reach out, fingers curling into the bars of the kennel, your voice cracking as you called out, “Atsu--”
But you were cut off by the darkness now filling the room, seeping into your throat through your open mouth as you wanted to call out to your childhood friend to save you. Because he loved you, he said so himself. His reason to be here was you, so he was as good as anyone to protect you from this hell you found yourself in. You were desperate enough to even believe in him after everything Atsumu did to you.
Only, what you hadn’t realized so far, was that he had been manipulated into this, as Sakusa was now trying to do to you.
And perhaps, that meant there was no saving for either of you.

Moonlight
Draco x Reader One-Shot
Summary: This is based off the song ‘Moonlight’ by Ariana Grande. During the bad times of War, not everything has to be so black-and-white. Both Y/N and Draco know it just too well.

Composing yourself had been more than a hard thing to ask for lately.
The Death Eater had finally taken Hogwarts under their control; famous Harry Potter, who was allegedly supposed to play a hero, disappeared in the depth of the unknown; the plan of escaping the school turned out to be an utter failure since the Dementors encircled and blocked every passage of absconding, escalating the disappointment over students.
Yet you hadn't thought of the plan B as an alternative solution, but you were sure, even if you managed to find one, it might take a few more months to figure things out. And you had to admit that increasing anxiety about your parents made you cry yourself to sleep at night. Despite your insistent pleads of the letters to contact you, you hadn't received any response or other sign of life ever since over two months of a constant worry.
And yet, it wasn't the worst part.
The Carrows, who unwarrantedly preferred to call themselves professors Carrows from now on, had decided to introduce their new methods of teaching everyone. And punishing for any triviality.
Once, for example, in Charms class -- which was the worst nightmare of a week -- you had been asked to stand up in front of the class and demonstrate a Crucio curse on the First Year who happened to accidentally bump into Alecto in the corridor. Obviously, you hadn't obeyed an imposed task to which Carrows only reacted with unrestrained rage. Instead of punishing the eleven-year-old boy, the lesson had turned out to be your disciplining session of torture for not being submissive enough. Although the feat had brought you more renown later on, which served to make Carrows more flustered, you still couldn't get out of the Hospital Wing for whole three days.
All of that also led your Occulumency to suffer, which was doubling the struggle. There was for sure no doubt it was an important skill to have, not only to create a mental barrier protecting yourself from uninvited intruders; but also preventing others' thoughts from leaking into your head. It was already enough of bearing the non-stopping suspense in the air. So, the idea of accumulating more emotions on your account would probably navigate to an outburst.
One thing, however, surprised you. You had found out that people who outwardly seemed to have quite a reputation of cruel tossers were actually more decent and human than you could think. In particular, certain Draco Malfoy, who had been selected as a Head Boy in terms of this year.
Wandering around the school and doing the night patrols, he had happened to find you sitting hunched over, face buried in your knees, and sobbing brokenly at the fate the Wizarding World was faced to deal with. He had flumped next to you, without question, silently accompanying and comforting you in moments of solitude.
Two other times of your encounter had been in the library: spotting you among the crowd of students, he would come over and take a nearby place. You didn't know whether it was a matter of pride or disposition, but he had never spoken up, which you, in fact, didn't mind. At first, you had been a little bit dubious about his sudden influx of approachability. However, as to mute your suspicions down, you tried not pondering about it too much.
Funny, how the real nature of the boy who you had known for a nonchalant sneer and teasing remarks, could suddenly become so interesting and mysterious.
It was on a Thursday late that you were strolling up to The Astronomy Tower to see the Thestrals soaring in the air. Normally, it was around the time when you would be putting yourself to the bed, but too many thoughts were buzzing in your mind, and you knew it wouldn't give you much space to sleep anyways. The only optimum, instead of staring aimlessly at the ceiling and flipping from one to the other side of the mattress, was busying yourself with something else. The lack of sleep was due to nothing else than today's lesson with Carrows. They had thought up an idea of having some practice with a Confrigo spell which, rather unfortunately, was presented on a living phantom. As always, a whole hour of torments was disastrous, to say at least, and even after classes, you couldn't shake off the echo of troubled screams and beggings, which carried over the petrified room of students. That's why you were thinking you could swallow your emotions down, quietly and undisturbedly, in the only place you could wish for some private space. Besides, it was the only spot resembling the old Hogwarts you had known from the previous years, showing the calming extent of green grounds.
However to your surprise, when you pushed the door to The Astronomy Tower, noiselessly, you could notice a silhouette of a man already standing at the barrier, which made you momentarily flabbergasted suddenly considering an option of running upon a teacher. To save yourself from much too unwanted detention, you decided to change your track, rushing straight into your dormitory. But almost as you succeeded doing so, in the last moment, a person shifted in their place and spoke up before you had room to move.
"Pretty late for a casual stroll, huh?" At once, a feeling of dread ebbed away, and you exhaled deeply air you didn't know you were holding as you recognized none other than Draco with his back turned towards you. His tone was as usually taunting, but something in a timbre of sadness was hitched to it as well. "Shouldn't be sneaking out of the room on the patroling hours, you know? I'm the least of who you could come upon today."
Your dignity told you to say something in order to defend your harmless saunter to calm down your nerves, which benefited only your mental account. However, he made a point -- you could have been caught not only by some random teacher but Currows themselves who, you were inexorably aware, wouldn't let a chance of dehumanizing others slip away. And besides, you were a little too dumbstruck to speak, realizing it must be the first time Draco fucking prince Malfoy had uttered more than a word to you. What was a coincidence of meeting up with him just on the same day as you had been wondering about your atypical relationship formed within this school year?
Before your contemplation ended, Draco's voice carried on with a conversation, echoing off the walls. "Care to join? Seeing as you're already here."
Frowning to yourself at how surreal the situation can become, you stepped off the stairs with no more hesitation. You truly wouldn't have suspected the things would turn out that way -- embracing his Head Boy position, you thought he would send you off back to the Hufflepuff Tower with his dismissive attitude as it usually was. Inviting you over to company him was a top cherry you hadn't even considered. Truthfully, it made you feel a little thrilled to accept this offer.
As you walked over to him, his facial features became much sharper than from afar. Now, as you looked at him closely, you could define the contours of his face were even more angelic yet still masculine than in daily light. The platonic hair glinted accordingly to the moon above; his blue eyes were focused on a black void in the sky, clearly pondering more than concentrating on a particular object; a mouth pursed into a line, not a mocking expression he was usually carrying himself with. Eyeing him like that and still not being capable of deciphering him suggested he must be someone between a completely unemotional git or an excellent master of Occulumency. You preferred to presume the second one.
Quickly, realizing you were staring, you turned your head to behold a collection of vivid stars hovering above your head. You knew it was only in the Wizarding World that sky flickered so brightly -- your father was a muggle, and a whole family dwelled among a non-magical society, which you didn't mind at all. And that's why you were able to recognize... differences existing between those two worlds.
"Why are you here?" you asked curiously, not quite capable of restraining yourself from doing so. You were standing close enough to him to smell his sandalwood cologne.
He gave you a perfunctory smile, and although it was a three-second gesture, it somehow made you lighter on the chest to know he was convenient with a conversation. "Needed someplace to think," he explained, not darting his eyes away from where he was looking. He took a pause there. "You?"
"The same reason," you answered simply, shrugging. "My roommates can be too loud sometimes, and I needed some silence to sort out...stuff."
Draco nodded in understanding, not interfering any further into the topic. Brushing your hair habitually with fingers, you scolded yourself for coming up here in the first place. How could you act so irresponsibly to think you could smoothly break a regulations' rule and without anyone finding out? Although you were desperate to hide it, the presence of Draco made you inexplicably nervous, and even though you tried to gulp it down, your stomach was churning when he was around. Time proved his intentions weren't bad after all, and you confronted with the truth ever since he first happened to find you at the moment of your meltdown in the corridor, clutching to him as if he was your sanity. But that didn't dispel your doubts about him becoming a fully active Death Eater, who praised with a Dark Mark on the left forearm like with a reward for some kind of acrobatic stunt.
Your gaze swept briefly over the rolled-up sleeves of his snow-white shirt only to assure yourself the mark didn't disappear off his arm with some help of the power of your imagination. Yet it was still there -- as always, tinted coal-black, scary and blood-curdling every time you looked at it.
That evidently didn't escape Draco's notice who, as though reading your mind, started. "You know, I didn't want this." He didn't have to show what he meant by saying so because you instantly figured it out. You looked up at him, and almost invisibly, his skin pale as it already was, changed even to the whiter shade. "He has bait on me. All of this: assassinating Dumbledore; obeying his will -- it's not because I want that."
The sudden shock welled up at these words, and you gawked at him stupidly, not quite able to process what he had just told you. Swallowing with some difficulty, you coerced yourself to a mutter. "Why... why are you telling me this?"
For the first time this night, his steely stare landed at you, scanning your face to detect signs of emotion. You attempted to conceal it, but he could see you were thunderstruck by his unexpected confession. Without preamble, he smiled slightly at you. "I thought you ought to know."
Ignoring the clenching in your chest, you did your best to not break eye contact with Draco when his eyes were intently locked on yours now. You could swear, something on the verge of interest and sympathy flickered in them for a second. "Why?"
"Because you're the only person who doesn't freak out when I'm around," he explained carefully. "Every time I go to the library or appear in any other public place, you're the only one who doesn't glare."
He closed his eyes, clearly relived with the fact he could confide the worries he had been carrying for a long time. Breathing out through the nose and his lips flinching a little, his head spun again to the blank of the sky.
It was a depressing sight to see him in such dejection, and the images of him being cast aside by his former group of friends with who he had been laughing merely a year ago rolled into your head, try as might to suppress it. You could only imagine what it must feel like to be rejected by everyone around; to play the main role in something you never wished to participate in.
For a moment, you thought he was going to continue because he grunted enigmatically, but the silence remained. Unable to restrain the urge to offer physical comfort, you affectionately grabbed his palm, squeezing it in the reassurance that you were there for him. He didn't attempt to break himself out of the grip, which presumably was a good indication.
"I believe you," you stated, for some reason, satisfied with the fact you're the one to comfort him. "You are a good person, Draco."
This time, it was he who clasped your hand, and he glimpsed at you once more, towering over you with his long legs. "No. In the past, things happened, and to say, I'm not proud of them. Jeering, mocking, insulting -- that wasn't fa-."
"Past is a past, Draco," you cut him off, knowing where it all was leading, and you wanted to bring it to an abrupt end. It was the least adequate moment for apologies. "You can't fix it. Good that you understand your mistakes by now."
He hummed in comprehension, smiling, and his grasp tightened around your palm as if you were about to run off from him, which he couldn't be more wrong about. Admitting to yourself, you loved his smile -- though it was seldom, it much differed from a smirk you were accustomed to at that point -- and you secretly hoped he could do it more often. You also loved that even if he didn't talk much, he was very successful in lifting you up.
Therefore, there you were: standing arm-to-arm with your ex-bully who you had happened to run across; observing the moon in its full exposure; holding hands in reassurance. Both of you clearly enjoyed this gratifying moment and were lingering towards it not to end.
"Thank you," Draco finally choked out. "Thank you for...everything."
Ultimately, smashing the wall of uncertainty down, he wrapped his arms around your neck, hunching a little to adjust to your height, and buried his face in the crook of your neck. At first, your body stiffened at the sudden touch and a skip of the boundary, but as not to agitate him, you adapted yourself soon enough by reciprocating the hug. You started to rub the slow, steady circles on his back, and little by little, he began stroking your hair, softly grazing your scalp.
How long you stood clinging to each other like this, you didn't know. Hearing Draco sigh quietly, feel the rise and fall of it against your hands. Your heart sunk when you heard him breathe out, and you prepared yourself for him to mix out of the embrace because of sudden consciousness he was cuddling with a half-blood Hufflepuff he had been mocking for half of a decade ('I should get going'; 'I didn't mean what I said earlier; 'leave me be, Y/S'). But none of this happened, and he was only murmuring into your ear.
"I presume I should escort you to the dormitory. I could tell you were the whole time with me so no one would get any suspicion if we run into...anyone," he offered, yet you felt him almost grimacing at the thought of ending a moment you were two having.
"Mhm..." you agreed with no more opposition. "But let's give it one more minute."

heyo it's Panic! Your story was amazing! I need to think of another one hm... how about where annie has an abusive boyfriend and garcello and s/o catch him beating her up or something, and garcello just loses it? Either an abusive boyfriend or getting bullied at school, whatever is comfortable with you!
Hey panic! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hope you like this one as well, it gave me an opportunity to write a side of Garcello that I feel he has but I don't get to show in fics very often, it was a lot of fun!
***
He was half asleep on the couch when it happened.
He had this feeling that Annie's boyfriend was bad news. It wasn't anything he did, nothing he said, but whenever Garcello was around the man the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. He had to stop himself from standing between Annie and Paul, stop himself from acting as a physical barrier.
Someone pounded on the door, startling him awake. He instinctively put a hand on your shoulder to hold you close against him, to protect you. He exchanged a confused glance with you. It was starting to get late, who would be knocking on the door at this time? You pulled away and he stood from the couch, approaching the front door to the apartment and looking through the peek hole.
It was Annie, with her head down he could only see the top of her head but he knew.
He immediately opened the door and Annie threw herself against his chest, sobbing into his shirt. Garcello shut the door and wrapped Annie in a hug. A tight one that squeezed her against him, one like he always used to give her when she would come to him at night after a nightmare.
She took fistfuls of his shirt and dug her nails into his back, burying her face in his chest and pushing him back as if she wanted to be as far away from the door as possible. He turned so he was between her and the door and locked eyes with you. You stood from your spot on the couch, approaching the two slowly. Garcello felt the hair on his arms prickle and he had to stop himself from pulling Annie away from you. It's you, not a threat, he told himself. You weren't going to hurt her.
"Annie, sweetheart, what happened?" You asked. You didn't reach for her, something he appreciated. Annie took a breath, hiccupped, and turned her head to look at you. Her face was red from crying.
And when Garcello saw the two black eyes and dried blood around her nose he saw red. He pushed Annie off of him, gently, and towards you. You steadied Annie as she stumbled and he stormed out of the apartment, slamming the door behind him before you or Annie could say anything to stop him.
***
The ride over didn't clear his mind. It didn't need to be cleared. He knew exactly what he was doing. He knew exactly what he was going to do, and he knew the repercussions of what he was going to do.
That didn't stop him from nearly breaking down the door with his fist when he got to Paul's apartment. As soon as the door opened a crack Garcello shoved his way inside with a snarl on his face. He backed Paul into the apartment and slammed the door behind him.
"Where do you get the fucking nerve to hit her?" He growled, squaring his shoulders and puffing his chest out. His blood was boiling and he clenched and unclenched his fists. He wanted to hit him, he wanted to break his nose and see how it felt for him, wanted to break his ribs and knock his head against the wall for hurting his sister.
"Hey whoa you can't just break in here and threaten me." Paul said, holding his hands up in front of him. Garcello snarled again. He wanted to kill him. How dare he hurt Annie, then act like he'd done nothing wrong.
"I haven't threatened you. And you opened the door." Garcello huffed angrily. Paul inclined his head as if to say "true" and stood to his full height. It was like a deer compared to a bison, but Paul's ego was too big for his own good.
"Listen it's none of your business." Paul started, taking a step towards Garcello, trying to invade his personal space and back him down. But Garcello didn't care. The more Paul pushed, the more deserving he was of the beating he was going to get anyway.
"Oh it's definitely my business. She's my sister." Garcello snapped. He was aching to just hit him. His brain was screaming at him to hurt him, hit him, kill him, anything to protect his family. Annie was like a sister to him but the instincts that surged inside him were those of a parent protecting his child.
"No, it's not. Get out of my apartment before I make you." Paul said. He paused for a second as if considering his options, and pushed a palm against Garcello's chest. That was the trigger he needed.
Garcello pushed Paul back against the wall with a hand gripping his shoulder. He balled his other hand into a fist and swung, connecting with Paul's face and hearing a satisfying crack before blood ran from Paul's nose. He blocked a poorly timed punch, lifting his knee to connect with Paul's crotch, then lifting it again to hit him in the face when Paul doubled over. Garcello backed away with his chest heaving, watching as Paul clutched his nose and swore.
"If you ever come near my sister again I'll cut your dick off and shove it down your throat." Garcello hissed, taking another step back. Paul let out a groan and garcello opened the door to the apartment and stepped out, pulling the door shut behind him. His chest was heaving, he could hear his blood rushing through his ears.
He pulled out a cigarette and his lighter, taking a puff from the cigarette and letting the smoke sit in his lungs for a moment.
"Son of a bitch." He muttered under his breath.
***
When he got back to his own apartment his knuckles had already turned red with the beginning of bruises. He examined his hand as he sat on his motorcycle in the parking lot of the apartment complex. He flexed his hand, feeling the familiar ache. He hadn't been in a fight, hadn't hit someone, in years.
The last time he did was high school, when someone called him a freak. It was a bad day, it's what got him separated from Annie in the first place. And he swore after that he would never fight again.  But he was doing this for her. For Annie, to protect her.
He walked up to the apartment, opening the door slowly. He didn't know where Annie was but he didn't want to startle her. Most of the lights were off, casting dark shadows through the small space. The tv was on but the volume was so low he couldn't hear it, it was something with National Geographic, one of Annie's favorites.
You were sitting on the couch with a pillow in your lap. Annie was lying across the couch, her head on the pillow and a blanket thrown over her while you ran your fingers softly through her hair. She was ok, she was with you, you would keep her safe when he couldn't.
"Is she alright?" He asked softly as he approached the couch. You looked up at him, then back down to Annie. She was asleep still. He could tell by the way her brows were knitted together and she mumbled. She always was a restless sleeper, always afraid something would get her.
"She's shaken up. I took her to urgent care, they said it's a minor break." You explained. He nodded, reaching down and smoothing his hand over Annie's hair. She stirred slightly and sat up, looking up at Garcello. He felt his chest ache when he saw the bruising under her eyes. Annie immediately stood from the couch, taking the blanket with her, and hugged Garcello again.
He wrapped his arms around her, lowering his head to press a kiss to the top of her hair. Annie nuzzled her face against Garcello's chest and he rubbed her shoulder gently. He looked to you, and caught you staring at his bruised knuckles. You lifted your gaze to meet his own and he pleaded with his eyes. Not tonight, tomorrow. Tomorrow you could yell at him all you wanted, but tonight he did what needed to be done for her.

Navigating Fatherhood - Fred Weasley
Tumblr media
Title: Navigating Fatherhood Pairing: Fred x Fem!Reader Summary: Fred knew being a dad would be an adjustment, but he never imagined it would be this hard. Early mornings, tantrums and meltdowns are all new territory for him, and each time something goes wrong he can’t help but feel like a failure. Complete and utter exhaustion seems to be his new normal, and he can’t seem to keep up with his kids’ ever changing moods.  Luckily for him he’s got the best co-parent in the world who knows just how to make him feel better. And it helps that the good parts of being a dad certainly outweigh the bad ones. A/N: first part of the dad!fred mini-series!! I really wanted to showcase some of the more difficult times I think Fred would experience as a first-time dad to small children, but also make sure to show some of the more tender parts as well! Feedback is always appreciated!! Tags: @feltondarling @pandaxnienke @raerae27 @thefifthweasley

“Oof,” Fred groans as a little elbow digs into his thigh. One of his eyes slowly opens and he can’t help but smile when he sees Phoenix looking up at him sheepishly.
“Sorry, Daddy,” Phoenix whispers as to not wake up Y/N.
Fred yawns and sits up a little. The room is still dark, so he figures it’s only a little past midnight. “That’s alright, little man. Come here.” Fred opens his arms up, melting as Phoenix crawls up the bed and onto his chest. He wraps his arms around the little boy in a tight hug, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “What’s wrong, Phoenix? Why aren’t you in bed?”
“Because I’m done sleeping,” Phoenix answers, looking up at Fred.
Fred chuckles and brings a hand up to stroke his son’s fiery red hair. He’s only been in Phoenix’s life for a few days and Fred can’t believe how much he already loves him. Every time he thinks his heart can’t fill with more love, all he has to do is look at Phoenix or his sister and it swells ten times bigger.
“What do you mean you’re done sleeping?” Fred asks, his tone light. “It’s only,” Fred pauses to look at the clock on the bedside table, and he has to do a double take to make sure he’s seeing it correctly. “It’s 5 am?” Fred is still exhausted, as if his head had just barely hit the pillow before Phoenix crawled into bed with him and Y/N.
The door to their bedroom creaks as it slowly opens then, and a moment later Fred can see Electra’s head poking through the opening. She smiles when Fred’s eyes meet hers, and she runs into the room to launch herself up onto the bed. Electra crawls up towards where Fred and Phoenix are, pushing her hair out of her eyes and Fred lifts one of his arms up so she can burrow into his chest as well.
“Good morning, Daddy!” she greets happily before turning to her brother. “Mornin’ stinky.”
“Good morning to you too butt face,” Phoenix greets, sticking his tongue out at her.
“It’s wonderful to see you Angel but what are you two doing awake?” Fred asks, causing both kids to look up at him. “The suns not even awake yet.”
Electra gives Fred a look, and he can’t help but chuckle at how confused she looks. “What do you mean? We always wake up before the sun! The we get to say good morning to it when it finally wakes up too!” Phoenix nods along in agreement.
Fred raises his eyebrows. The last time he’d been awake at 5 am was because he didn’t go to bed until 6 am. “You guys get up this early every day?”
Y/N laughs then, causing Fred to look over at her. She rolls over to face Fred, a bemused smile on her face. “Every single one,” she answers, stretching out her limbs. “Good morning my monkeys.”
“Good morning Mummy!” Electra greets happily, crawling off of Fred so Y/N can cuddle her into her chest.
Fred reaches down to stroke Y/N’s cheek, a soft smile appearing on his face when she turns her head to press a kiss to the palm of his hand. “Mornin’ love. Hope we didn’t wake you up.”
Y/N shakes her head with a chuckle, reaching out to ruffle Phoenix’s hair. “Don’t worry about it, Freddie. I’m so used to waking up this early my body just kinda does it on its own these days.”
“Really?” Fred asks in disbelief. But he can tell that Y/N is being truthful with him just by her appearance. Her eyes are already bright, not an ounce of sleep still clinging to them and her voice is clear. Fred can still feel the heaviness of exhaustion in his eyes and his voice is still deep and grumbly. “I feel like I barely slept.”
Y/N gives him a small smile. “It’s okay, Freddie. You’re still getting used to all this.” She sits up then, and both kids look over at her. “Come on then, monkeys. Let’s head downstairs while your Dad gets some more rest before he has to go to work.”
“No, no, it’s fine,” Fred insists. He’s already missed out on so much of their lives, and just a few nights ago he’d promised Y/N, Electra, Phoenix and himself that from that moment on they were going to be a family, and it’s a promise he intends on keeping. “Let’s go do some coloring, you guys can make me some pretty pictures to hang up in my office.”
Fred clutches Phoenix to his chest as he stands up and settles him on his hip. Electra abandons Y/N and runs at Fred, jumping into his outstretched arm. He starts to head downstairs then, both twins giggling as Fred tickles their sides.
-
By the time Fred actually has to start getting ready to leave for the joke shop he feels like a zombie. Coloring only kept Electra and Phoenix occupied for so long, and Fred has spent the last hour and a half alternating between chasing them around the living room and tossing them up in the air and catching them. Thankfully they got distracted in a game of hide and seek and Fred was able to sneak upstairs.
“Blimey. What have I gotten myself into?” he muses with a shake of his head as he starts to head over to where his suit is hanging up. This is the first time that Fred has spent the night, and while Y/N did warn him that the twins can be a bit much in the morning, a 5 am wakeup call was not what he was expecting. He gets dressed slowly, already plotting how to sneak upstairs to his bedroom for a midday nap without George noticing. Today is their long day at the shop, they’ll both be there early to restock, and Fred is sure he’ll never make it to closing time without at least one nap.
Fred has just started to do up his tie when the bedroom door swings open and Electra barges in.
“Found you!” she shouts, looking around the room. When all she finds is Fred, her smile turns into a pout. “Oh, sorry Daddy. I thought Phoenix was hiding in here.”
“It’s alright, Angel,” he assures her with a chuckle. He sits down on the end of the bed to pull his shoes on, watching as Electra climbs up to sit down next to him.
Electra reaches out to grab Fred’s tie, her eyes focused on the blinking pin in the shape of the shop’s logo on it. “Woah,” she sighs, sounding completely mesmerized. “That’s so cool!” When she looks up at Fred her eyes are wide, and he can’t help but laugh.
“You think so?” When Electra nods wildly Fred leans down to kiss the top of her head. “I’ll get you one, then, Angel. Then you can match with Daddy.”
“Wicked cool,” Electra announces. She watches Fred tie his shoes for a moment, a frown on her face. “Why are you getting all dressed up?”
“I’ve gotta go to work, Angel,” Fred explains. He kisses her on the top of the head one more time before heading to the dresser so he can fix his hair in the mirror.
“Work? What do you mean you have to go to work?” Electra asks, her disappointment evident in her tone. “Mummy works from home, why can’t you?”
When Fred turns around his heart breaks in his chest. Fat tears are rolling down Electra’s rosy cheeks and her lower lip is wobbling. “Oh Angel,” Fred coos, reaching out to her. Fred picks her up and holds her against his chest, one of his hands rubbing her back to try and calm her.
Electra presses her face into Fred’s neck as she sobs, her breath coming out in sharp pants. “I don’t want you to go!” she wails.
“Shh. It’s okay, baby,” Fred soothes, starting to gently sway her back and forth. “I’ll be back before you know it, okay? And I’ll have a pin just like mine for you to wear. And we’ll play together, and I’ll tuck you into bed and read you a bedtime story.” He pauses to press a few kisses to her forehead. “Does that sound good?”
Electra’s sobs start to quiet down and she pulls away to look at Fred. “I guess,” the little girl sniffles. “Will you be here tomorrow when I wake up?”
“Of course, Angel,” Fred promises with a smile. “I’ll be here every day when you wake up no matter how early it is.”
Electra holds her pinky out and Fred immediately hooks his around it, squeezing tightly.
-
After a few days of waking up early with the kids and going to bed late after finishing up some work Fred is practically dead on his feet. Normally he’d stay at the shop to take care of the day’s paperwork after closing, but ever since he found out about the twins he’s been skating out right after closing and taking it home with him. Between helping Y/N with the kids all evening and dealing with the massive amount of paperwork he always seems to have, Fred figures he’s only getting four or five hours of sleep before the twins are crawling into bed to start their day all over again.
“I don’t know how you did it on your own for so long,” Fred sighs as Y/N cuddles into his side. The kids are upstairs playing before bed and they’re having their first quiet moment alone together since the night they got back together. “Even with you to lean on I feel like I’m falling behind.”
Y/N looks up at Fred, smiling when he kisses her on the forehead. “You’re doing great, Freddie. The kids love you and all that matters to them is that you’re there with them and that you love them too.”
“I do love them. So much. More than I ever thought I could love anything,” he says softly. “But you make everything look so easy. It makes me feel like I’m never going to be good enough for them.”
Y/N sits up so she can look at Fred properly and grabs his face in her hands. “It wasn’t always so easy for me, Fred. I can’t tell you how many times I would mess up or forget something and end up crying endlessly. I spent a lot of time feeling like the worst mother in the world while the twins were growing up. Being a parent takes time to get used to, you gotta figure out what works best for you and your kids. Hell, I still feel like there’s loads more for me to learn as they grow up. All that matters is that you’re trying, Fred.”
Fred leans down and capture’s Y/N’s lips in a slow kiss, letting the movements of their mouths melt all of his stress away. She’s always known just what to say to talk Fred off of a ledge, and while his chest is still tight with worry, he doesn’t feel it as strongly anymore. Fred’s just started to deepen the kiss when the phone rings, and he pulls away with a groan.
“Your Mum has the best timing,” he jokes, pulling away from Y/N so she can go answer it.
“It’s time for the twins to go down anyway,” she chuckles. “Can you go up and start getting them ready? I’ll join you in a bit.”
Fred nods but stays on the couch until Y/N disappears into the kitchen so he can watch her hips sway as she walks away. Once he’s alone Fred bounds up the stairs, determined to get the kids to bed quickly in the hopes that he and Y/N can spend some time together in bed. There is a stack of paperwork that needs his attention on the kitchen table, but he can deal with George being cross tomorrow if it means getting to spend some time alone with Y/N.
When Fred reaches Electra’s doorway he leans up against the frame, just watching the twins play together for a moment. They’re talking to each other excitedly, passing toys between them. Fred never thought this would be his life at 22 but he wouldn’t trade it for the world. He still can’t believe that these two pure, cheeky little Angels are his and he can’t wait to spend the rest of his life with them.
“Daddy!” Electra says suddenly, pulling Fred out of his thoughts.
Fred smiles down at her, opening up his arms to grab her off the floor as she runs at him. “Hi, Angel. Long time no see.” In reality, it can’t have been more than 30 minutes since Fred saw them last. He’d been helping Electra and Phoenix with some kind of art project when they both got bored and abandoned it to head upstairs to play.
“You’re so silly, Daddy! We just saw you downstairs!” Electra reminds him with an eyeroll.
“You’re right Angel, my mistake,” he chuckles pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “Have you guys been having fun?”
Electra nods and wiggles in Fred’s grasp so he’ll let her go. Once her feet are back on the ground she’s running back towards her brother. “Load and loads and loads of fun!”
“Uh huh!” Phoenix agrees happily. “We built a tower, and then we knocked it down and then built it again. Then we played restaurant but that got really boring, so we’ve been playing with our stuffed animals!”
Fred nods along as Phoenix talks, amazed at how much energy they have in their tiny bodies. He makes a mental note to send his mum the biggest box of chocolates he can find as a part apology, part thank you for dealing with him as a child as he steps into the room. “I’m so glad you guys are having fun! But it’s time to start getting ready for bed now, okay?”
The energy in the room goes flat as both the twins turn to look at Fred.
“No, it’s not,” Electra insists, picking up one of her dolls.
Fred sighs, clearly this is going to be harder than he anticipated. “Yes, it is. Now let’s all clean up your toys so they’re ready for you to play with tomorrow and then we can get ready for bed and pick out a story for me to read to you. Sound good?”
“Sounds rubbish,” Phoenix responds, making both him and Electra laugh.
“Come on guys, let’s start cleaning up,” Fred encourages. He starts to pick up some of the things strewn about on the floor, trying to ignore the way Electra huffs at him.
“But I want to keep playing,” Electra whines, giving Fred her best puppy dog eyes.
Fred’s insides melt at the adorable look on her face, but he knows that if he gives in now he’ll regret it later. “I know you do, sweetheart. But it’s time for bed.” Fred pauses to put some of the things in his hand in their proper spots. “You guys can get up tomorrow and play all day, but for now it’s time to clean up.”
Phoenix and Electra share a look before they reluctantly start to clean up.
“Good job guys,” Fred praises, hoping it will motivate them to keep doing.
When they don’t say anything, Fred frowns and helps them pick up the few remaining things on the floor. This is the first time he’s had to be stern with them, and while he knows it was the right thing to do, he can’t help but feel like he’s messed up somehow. Fred continues to get them ready for bed, trying everything he can to get them to say something. But they continue to do as he asks in complete and utter silence, angry looks on their faces.
“Alright, what book do you want Daddy to read?” he asks quietly as they settle into Electra’s bed. Getting the twins ready for bed has somehow exhausted Fred even more and he’s ready to just read them a story, take Phoenix into his bed, and kiss them both good night.
“We don’t want you to read us a book,” Phoenix grumbles, looking up at Fred.
“Yeah, we want Mummy to read us a book. She’s nice to us,” Electra adds with a huff.
“Oh,” Fred says softly, feeling defeated. All the worries Y/N had washed away come flooding back, and Fred’s chest tightens so hard it feels like he can barely breathe. “Alright then. I’ll send her up.” Fred heads towards the door, pausing in the entryway so he can turn to look back at them. “Goodnight. I love you both.” He waits for a moment to see if they say anything back, and when they don’t he heads back down towards the kitchen, his heart heavy in his chest.
-
Much to Fred’s surprise, when Electra and Phoenix come to wake him and Y/N up the next morning, they both snuggle into his chest first. He thought they might still harbor some anger towards him, but they both demand he hug them 5 times before he leaves for work in the morning, and they’re both waiting by the front door to jump into his arms the second he gets back in the evening. It confuses the hell out of him, but he gladly accepts the snuggles and kisses.
“Alright, what movie are we watching?” Y/N asks as she enters the living room, a giant bowl of popcorn in her hands. It’s Friday evening, and they’ve decided to start a tradition to solidify their new family, so from now on every Friday will be family movie night.
“Frozen!” Electra announces excitedly as she bounds over to Y/N, a DVD case pressed close to her chest.
“Daddy’s never seen it! Can you believe that, Mummy?” Phoenix asks as he climbs up onto the couch, pressing himself as close to Fred as possible.
Y/N shakes her head with a laugh, handing Fred the bowl of popcorn so she can take the DVD from Electra. “I can’t, baby. We’ll have to be sure to sing the songs extra loud for him, okay?” She settles onto the couch, waving her wand to get the movie set up. “Come here, Ells, sit next to me.”
Electra doesn’t move from her spot in front of the couch. She’s facing Fred and Phoenix, her arms crossed and a deep pout on her face. “I wanted to sit next to Daddy!”
“Snooze you lose!” Phoenix taunts, sticking his tongue out at her.
“You can sit next to Daddy next week, Electra,” Y/N suggests softly. “Just come sit next to me so we can start the movie.”
Fred watches in amusement as Electra turns to glare at Y/N. Last night both Electra and Phoenix wanted nothing to do with him and now tonight they’re fighting over who gets to sit with him. He tries his best to keep the smile from his face, not wanting to encourage her behavior, but he’s struggling. It makes him feel good that his kids both love him enough to fight for his attention.
“But I wanted to sit with him tonight,” Electra whines.
“Here Angel, how about this,” Fred starts, causing her to look at him. Fred hands Y/N the bowl of popcorn so he can pick Phoenix up and move him closer towards his mother. “We’ll all move down a bit,” he continues, moving down the couch so he’s sitting next to Phoenix again. “And now there’s room for you on Daddy’s other side.”
Electra smiles brightly and scrambles up onto the new spot Fred created for her. She immediately snuggles into his side before looking up at him happily. “I love you Daddy.”
“Love you too, Angel,” Fred responds, leaning down to kiss her on the forehead.
Phoenix makes a noise, snuggling into Fred’s other side. “I love you too, Daddy!” he announces.
“And I love you too, little man,” Fred says with a chuckle, kissing him on the forehead as well.
Y/N rolls her eyes fondly, her chest warm from the amount of love she has for the three of them. “Are you monkeys finally ready for the movie to start?” When all three of them nod she waves her wand, letting the opening song begin.
Electra and Phoenix both start singing along excitedly, and Fred kisses his plans of falling asleep goodbye.
-
“You sure you’ll be alright with them by yourself?” Y/N asks, eyeing Fred wearily.
Fred rolls his eyes, hitching Phoenix up onto his back higher. While bedtime had been a disaster the other night, Fred has been feeling more optimistic after family movie night. Clearly both Phoenix and Electra love him, and while he still feels like he can barely keep up with them, being able to spend this time with them and bond with them makes it all worth it.
“Y/N, we’ll be fine,” Fred assures her. There’s some kind of issue with one of the ads Y/N had written for tomorrow’s issue of the Daily Prophet and she needs to head into the office to take care of it.
“If you’re sure,” she responds, shrugging on her coat. “They can color or play with their toys but absolutely no screens and no sugar. It’s too close to bedtime,” Y/N reminds.
Fred chuckles and leans down to press a soft kiss to her lips. “This isn’t my first rodeo, Y/N. We’ll be fine. Right guys?”
Electra cheers from where she’s gripping onto Fred’s leg and Phoenix nods wildly over Fred’s shoulder.
“Daddy is the bestest Daddy in the world, Mummy! We’re gonna have loads of fun,” Phoenix promises.
Fred bites his lip, trying to contain the emotion he feels buzzing around in his chest. He’s had a hard few days parenting wise, but hearing Phoenix call him the best dad in the world has certainly made the struggle worth it. “See? Go on, get to work and sort everything out like you always do. And when you get back everything will be fine.”
“Alright, alright. I love you my monkeys, okay? You might be in bed when I get back, but I’ll come in to give you kisses, alright?” Y/N reaches over to ruffle Phoenix’s hair before leaning down to press a kiss to the top of Electra’s head.
“Love you!” Both twins shout as Y/N steps into the fireplace, watching in awe as green fire swallows her up and takes her away.
“Hey Daddy?” Electra asks sweetly, plopping herself into Fred’s lap.
Y/N has been gone for nearly an hour and so far everything has gone smoothly. Fred brought their large box of blocks down from Phoenix’s room, and they’ve all been sitting on the floor together building random structures for the twins to knock down before building something else and repeating the process. Bedtime is quickly approaching and while Fred is a tad nervous that he’ll have to go through it alone again, he’s optimistic that it will go well.
“Yes, my Angel?” Fred responds, pressing a light kiss to her hair.
Electra looks up at Fred from under her eyelashes and the softest look she can muster is on her face. “Can we pretty, pretty, pretty please have some ice cream?”
Fred gives her a look. “No, sweetheart. It’s too close to bedtime.”
“Please,” she begs, sticking out her lower lip.
“No, Electra,” Fred says firmly. “And that’s the last time I’m going to say it.”
Electra glares at Fred and scrambles out of his lap, her cheeks turning red at her frustration. She storms over to where Phoenix is standing and knocks over the tower he’d been working on.
“Hey!” he shouts, his little fists clenching up. “What did you do that for?”
“Electra,” Fred scolds. “That wasn’t nice. Apologize to your brother.”
“No,” she responds firmly, kicking some more of the blocks. “I want ice cream!”
Fred sighs and stands up. “Alright, that’s it. It’s time for bed, let’s go.” Fred moves to grab Electra’s hand and she slaps it away, stomping her feet.
“No! Not until I get my ice cream!”
Fred fixes her with a firm glare. “This is not appropriate behavior, Electra. I said no ice cream and that’s final.”
Electra’s face is red with anger, and Fred can see tears welling up in her eyes. Her fists are clenched at her sides and when she stomps her foot again, several things in the room fly off of their shelves and move in every direction across the room. “I want ice cream, now!” She starts to scream as she rips pillows off of the sofa and the frustrated tears start flowing down her cheeks.
Fred ducks as a picture frame comes flying at his head, his mind moving quickly to decide what to do next. If the other night had been disastrous, this is nuclear. The living room is slowly turning into a giant mess and Phoenix grabs on to Fred’s leg in fear.
“Fine!” Fred says suddenly, grabbing his wand from his pocket. Electra is still crying, but several of the things that had been flying around the room clatter to the floor. “I give up. Eat the damn ice cream.” With a wave of his wand the freezer opens and the pint of ice cream inside of it starts to float over towards them. A spoon from one of the drawers joins it, and all of Electra’s anger disappears as she grabs them both out of the air.
“Daddy,” Phoenix says quietly, tugging on his pant leg.
Fred looks down, his heart breaking at how upset his son is from his sister’s meltdown. Tears have started to roll down his cheeks and his bottom lip is wobbling.
“Oh, baby, it’s okay,” Fred coos, gathering him up in his arms. He hugs him close to his chest and starts to head towards the stairs. “Come on, let’s get you into bed, yeah?” Fred rubs Phoenix’s back as he takes them upstairs, his mind racing about what to do about Electra.
20 minutes later Fred is finally heading back down the stairs after getting Phoenix to fall asleep. His shoulders are tense, and his mind is still trying to figure out what exactly to do with Electra. He’s never seen a meltdown quite like that before and he has absolutely no idea what to do. Fred’s never had to punish a child before and this is certainly the worst place to start.
“Why aren’t you in bed, Electra? And why in the world are you eating ice cream?” When Fred finally reaches the living room he can see how mad Y/N is just from her body language. Her shoulders are tense, and her hands are planted firmly on her hips.
“Daddy gave it to me,” she answers calmly, licking her spoon clean.
“I can explain that,” Fred says quietly.
Y/N turns to look at him, her eyes narrow. “I thought this wasn’t your first rodeo, Fred? And yet this room looks like a bomb went off and I’ve got a kid not in bed stuffing her face with ice cream.” Fred opens his mouth to respond, but Y/N puts her hand up to stop him. “We’ll talk about it later.” She turns back to look at Electra. “Bed, now Missy.”
Electra begrudgingly gets off the sofa and heads towards the stairs, putting the ice cream and her spoon in Fred’s outstretched hand. Fred watches as she stomps up the stairs, Y/N following close behind. He sighs heavily before shuffling to the kitchen to put the ice cream away. Once the freezer is shut tight he waves his wand so the living room can start to put itself back together, before collapsing in a chair at the kitchen table.
“Can you not yell at me,” Fred asks when Y/N comes into the kitchen a bit later. “The past 45 minutes have been hell on earth, and I can’t take anymore yelling.”
Y/N sighs as she hoists herself up onto one of the counters. “What happened, Fred? You were so confident when I left and now you just look, broken.”
“Everything was going so well. We were all playing and laughing, and then Electra asked for ice cream. And I said no. And she asked again, and I said no. Then all hell broke loose. She went full meltdown. Crying, screaming, shit was flying all around the room. I didn’t know what to do. Phoenix was scared, she was throwing pillows all over the place, so I gave her the damn ice cream.” Fred runs a hand through his hair before he looks over at Y/N. “Which I know is probably the worst thing I could have done but I just needed her to calm down and then Phoenix was crying, and it was all just one huge shit show.”
“I’m so sorry, Fred,” Y/N says softly. “Electra can throw some explosive tantrums and I should have warned you. And I shouldn’t have left you alone with them. That was my fault.”
Fred rubs his forehead, trying to relieve some of the tension in his head. “They’re my kids too, Y/N. I should be able to handle them on my own. But the second something goes a little wrong my mind goes completely blank. I’m a terrible father.”
“Freddie come over here.” Y/N’s tone is firm, yet gentle and Fred slowly makes his way over to her. When he gets close enough her legs wind around his hips and she pulls him in. “You are not a terrible father,” she starts, wrapping her arms around his neck. “You’re a new father. There’s a difference.”
Fred buries his head in Y/N’s neck, taking a deep breath in. Her scent of honey and flowers overwhelms his senses, and Fred can already feel himself starting to relax. “I love them both so much that I think my heart is going to explode. And I thought that would be enough but I’m very clearly in over my head.”
“Then walk away,” Y/N says flatly, surprising Fred. “Walk out the front door and never come back. “
Fred pulls away from Y/N’s neck and grips her face so they’re looking into each other’s eyes. “I would never do that, Y/N. You have to know that.”
Y/N smiles at Fred, rolling her eyes. “I know that you dummy. You know how? Because you’re not a terrible father. A terrible father would walk away when things get tough.” She grabs Fred’s chin and tilts his head down to kiss him on the forehead. “Becoming a parent is a huge adjustment, Fred. And honestly you’re doing amazing, love. I promise you that. You know how I know?”
“How?” Fred murmurs, pressing a kiss to the tip of her nose.
“Because Electra and Phoenix are giving you a hard time. I know it sounds weird, but kids tend to be extra naughty for their parents,” Y/N chuckles. “They could be throwing the biggest tantrum for me and the second my mum walks in their all smiles and hugs and kisses. They’re testing your boundaries. It’s what kids do.”
“Who knew being a parent was so confusing?” Fred muses with a chuckle. He leans down to kiss Y/N softly. “I couldn’t do any of this without you, you know.”
“Well duh, I’m the one that gave birth to them,” Y/N jokes.
Fred rolls his eyes, letting his hands wander to her hips. “Well yes obviously. But that’s not what I meant. You always know exactly what to say to make me feel better, to motivate me to keep going.”
“I will always be there to motivate you and support you. Because I love you, and I love our family and I can’t imagine a future that doesn’t have you three in it with me,” Y/N admits, a pink blush on her cheeks.
“I love you too,” Fred whispers. “And I love our kids. And our family.” Fred pulls Y/N into a slow kiss, trying to convey every feeling he has for her through his mouth. “I used to dream about having this life with you. And now that it’s come true I’m never giving it up. I promise you that.”
-
Fred comes up behind Y/N as she stirs something on the stove, wrapping his arms around her waist. “Hi, love.”
“Hi Freddie,” she greets with a laugh. She tilts her head back slightly, allowing Fred to kiss her briefly. “You’re up to something.”
Fred gasps in fake shock. “Me? Up to something? Couldn’t be,” he teases. His grip on her waist tightens and he starts to press a few open-mouthed kisses to Y/N’s neck. “I just couldn’t help but notice how quiet the house is.”
Y/N lets out a quiet moaning, letting her head fall ever so slightly to the side to give Fred more room to kiss. “Yeah the kids are out back running around.”
Fred hums as he kisses Y/N’s neck, smirking when she shivers. “I think that means we should sneak upstairs for some, mummy and daddy time,” he suggests. While Fred expected that they wouldn’t be having sex every night as they adjusted back into their relationship and into this new normal, he had figured he and Y/N would have been intimate again by now. But with Phoenix and Electra always sneaking about, the closest they’ve gotten is some heavy petting while making out in bed before they both practically pass out.
Before Y/N can respond there’s some kind of commotion outside before one of the kids bursts into tears. They break apart and just as Y/N reaches the back-door Phoenix is approaching, his hair damp from the light snow that started to fall, and tears streaming down his cheeks. Y/N squats down and holds her arms out for him, and to both of their surprise he pushes right past her and heads over towards Fred.
“What’s wrong, buddy?” Fred coos, leaning down so he can pick Phoenix up. He settles him on his hip before he starts to wipe away some of his tears, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“I-I fell down and hurt my elbow,” he gasps in between sobs.
“That’s no good. Want Daddy to kiss it better?” When Phoenix nods Fred presses another kiss to his forehead before gently placing him down on the counter. He helps him out of his jacket before slowly rolling up his sleeve. Fred leans down to press a few kisses to his elbow. “All better?”
Phoenix nods at Fred with a smile, sniffling through his last few tears. “So much better! Thank you Daddy.”
Fred tickles his sides a bit, laughing as Phoenix starts to giggle. “You ready to go back outside and play with your sister?” Fred helps Phoenix put his jacket back on before putting him back down on the ground.
“Love you!” Phoenix shouts as he runs back out into the yard.
“I can’t believe he just did that,” Y/N muses with a shake of her head as she comes to stand with Fred.
Fred chuckles and pulls her into his chest. “I detect a bit of jealousy in your tone there, Y/N,” he teases. He hugs Y/N tightly, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “That’s the first time one of them has chosen to get help from me over you, did you know that?” Fred’s chest feels like it might burst from how happy he feels.
“See, love? You’re navigating this fatherhood thing just fine,” Y/N responds, pulling him down into a kiss.

A Son Not Worth Saving
Summary: [“Cut them off.” Tommy said harshly. “I don’t want to look at them. I hate everyone they’re connected to, so I want them gone. Permanently.”]
-or-
Tommy grows wings, and Phil doesn't stick around to help. He discovers the consequences of his neglect, but it's too late. Too late to do anything.
___
It was after Doomsday. Things were tense, and Tommy just wanted a rest. He and Tubbo had gone to his little dirt hut for the night, and though it wasn’t the cleanest place, it was warm enough.
His back had been itchy during the fight, but he’d passed it off as nerves. Now, though? The slight itch had progressed to a small ache, then a stinging, then agonizing pain. He was on his stomach, arms pressing into the dirt floor, crying as Tubbo tried to figure out what to do.
“What’s wrong? Tommy, what’s wrong?”
Tommy shook his head. “Tubs, it hurts, make it stop, please,” He sobbed, his fist aimlessly grabbing at small tufts of grass that had grown, despite everything.
“I’m trying, but this is way out of my area of expertise!” Tubbo panicked. “I… I think I’m gonna have to call Philza, or something, I don’t know what to do!”
“Are you crazy?” Tommy yelled. “Don’t call Phil! He’s not gonna help, he just blew up- Don’t call Phil!”
Tubbo laughed, but it was stressed, “What else am I gonna do, Tommy? I- I don’t know, it kinda seems like you’re growing wings, and-”
“Wings?” Tommy’s disbelief was cut off by a shriek of pain. “I dunno, call Quackity? Doesn’t he have those little chicken wings?”
“Duck, Tommy!”
“I’m on the floor, I can’t duck anymore, Tubbo.”
Tubbo chuckled, but it was high-pitched and panicked. “No, he has duck wings. I definitely need to call Phil, I’ll be right back.”
Tommy tried to reach out, he didn’t want Tubbo leaving, but instead, he just curled into a ball and whimpered. He could catch snippets of the conversation, and it didn’t seem to be going well.
__
“Hi, Mr. Minecraft, Sir? I know it’s a bad time, because you just blew up my whole nation, but, uh,”
A sigh echoed from the other end of the call. “What d’you want, Tubbo?”
Tubbo giggled, but you could tell it wasn’t a casual one. “Well, you see, Philza, uh, I think Tommy-”
“Really? You’re gonna call me about Tommy? Tubbo, thanks for the call, but I gotta go-”
“No, you don’t understand, I think he’s growing wings. I- I need your help.”
Philza didn’t screech. But it was kind of close. “What? He’s growing wings? Tubbo, I hate to break it to you, but I doubt it, and I’m in the arctic anyway,”
Tommy’s whimpers grew louder, and must’ve reached the phone. Phil sighed, heavy and weighted. “Tubbo, I-”
“Please, the only person I could call was Quackity but I figured you’re kind of Tommy’s dad and all-”
“Fine. Tubbo, I’ll be there in a bit. Just- don’t touch his back. Okay?” He hung up, and Tubbo went back to Tommy.
His condition had worsened. He was on the floor, forearms pressed against it as he struggled to keep his head up. “Tubbo?”
Tubbo moved to him, letting Tommy put his arms around his neck in an awkward hug as he cried. “Yeah, Tommy. It’s okay, It’s okay, I’m here. I’m here.”
“Tubbo, I think- I think I’m gonna sleep- pass out, it hurts,”
As much as Tubbo tried to keep Tommy awake, by the time Philza arrived, Tubbo was struggling to hold up an unconscious Tommy. His face looked peaceful, almost. It was the first rest he’d gotten in a long time, but the dried streaks of tears that were there told him it wasn’t a good rest.
Philza looked almost awkward in the small hut. “Tubbo, you should probably leave, I’ll handle this.”
Tubbo wanted to trust Phil, he really did. But something was off about those eyes. Something made Tubbo need to stay here. To monitor. To make sure that Tommy was going to be okay.
“No, that’s fine. I’ll stay here.”
Phil hummed. “Which one of us has wings? You should leave, Tubbo.”
“Which one of us sided with his abuser to blow up the one thing he had left of Wilbur?” Tubbo hissed. “I’m staying here.”
It was quiet, except for the whines that Tommy let out as he clutched at Tubbo. Phil didn’t really do… much, at all. Sure, he had a hand on Tommy’s shoulder, but Tubbo was the one whispering comforting thoughts, Tubbo was the one crying in sympathy, Tubbo, Tubbo, Tubbo.
Why had he called Phil again?
Oh, right.
Tommy woke up when the skin on his back started stretching and they had to tear off his shirt. There was a better way to describe it, but Tubbo started to panic more and couldn’t really think about it.
“Phil, Phil is this supposed to be happening?”
Phil nodded slowly, and was going to say something, but Tommy managed to slur out some words. “Phil- Dad, is that you?”
Tubbo spoke up when it was clear that Phil wasn’t. “Yeah. Yeah, he came to help you.”
Tubbo hated lying to Tommy. Calling Phil had been a bad idea.
When the skin on Tommy’s back started to show that something was growing underneath it, Phil started to do what he was called here for. “Alright, Tubbo. This is what’s going to happen next. The things right here are the frames of the wings, pretty much. There’s not going to be any feathers yet, those need to grow wings, but there is going to be a lot of blood,” He got up and dusted off his robes. “You’re going to be fine, but I really need to go,”
“What?” Tubbo yelled. “You’re leaving?”
Phil shrugged. “I’ve got some important stuff to get to. I can’t just hold your hands all the way through it.”
“You- Tommy’s important! You can,” Tubbo protested. “You're his father! You can’t just leave!”
“I did years ago,” Phil said, “And he turned out fine. Besides, Wilbur was more his father than I was.”
“Maybe you think so, because of how shittily you treated him!” Tubbo growled. “But whether you want to acknowledge it or not, he was your son.”
Phil shrugged, turning to look at Tommy, who was crying, reaching out for something he’d never get. “He’s not my son. Never was. Even if he was, there’s not much worth saving in him, is there?”
“Get out.” Tubbo mumbled. “Go hang out with Technoblade, cause I know that’s where you’re going. If I ever see you around here again, I’ll kill you.”
“You’d have to get through Techno.” Phil said, clearly amused.
Tubbo turned to look Phil in the eye, and Phil knew he wasn’t lying. “I’ll kill him too.”
____
Tommy didn’t remember what happened. One minute he was on the dirt floor and his dad- Phil was there, and the next he was on a bed, with Quackity and Tubbo.
“Tubs?” He croaked.
Tubbo moved over. “Hi, you’re awake, hi! Are you doing okay? How’re you feeling?”
Tommy blinked, his eyelids heavy. His back ached. “My back is sore. Where’s dad?”
“I should hope your back hurts,” Quackity laughed. “You just grew wings.”
“But where- where’s Phil?”
Tubbo wouldn’t meet Tommy’s dazed gaze. “He can’t be here right now. Had to leave.”
“Probably some bullshit excuse about something important.” Tommy sighed. “Right? He always does that. Always has. Don’t know why I hoped it would be different.”
Quackity frowned. “On the plus side, hermano, you’ve been out for a bit and have already got some feathers! It’s just the fluff though, so they look really cute.”
“What the- no, I don’t wanna look cute, I’m a big man!” Tommy tried to protest, but Quackity laughed more.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to laugh, but they all fluffed up and-” He doubled over, and Tubbo managed a small smile.
Tommy swallowed, and sat up. He had to turn around, since he’d been on his stomach, but he was met with the familiar view of his bedroom. “Can I have some time alone, please?”
“Okay,” Tubbo said reluctantly. “But shout if you need anything, okay?”
Tommy said he would, and then as soon as the two others left, started crying. He remembered what Phil had said, even if he’d been listening while in immense pain. For as long as he could recall, he’d just wanted a family. People to love him. People to care about him. People to look at him and support him when they noticed he was down.
He used to have that. Or maybe not, maybe he was just remembering it wrong. Glorifying the small amounts of affection that Phil had given him. God, Phil really never cared, did he? He just went on with Techno, trusting Wilbur to take care of the child.
It hurt more that Phil had killed Wilbur than it did Phil disowning him. He knew deep down that it would’ve happened eventually, but he wished it hadn’t been so soon. Tommy knew he had a small family, right outside his door, but he couldn’t help but yearn for the family he used to be a part of.
Everything in his room reminded Tommy of Philza. If he was going to go and pretend that he was fine, that he could leave his old family behind and love the new one, then he didn’t want the reminders.
Out went the old photo of the four of them, Tommy’s smile reflecting Phil’s, the glass breaking in the trash can. Goodbye to the scarf that hung on the wall with his other winter stuff that Phil had bought for him when they visited a village together. One of the only gifts that he’d ever gotten, while Techno paraded around with swords and jewels and everything that Tommy wanted. Tommy put on a beanie that Quackity had given him a while ago instead, covering the hair that so matched his father’s.
Away went the pale blue cloak that carried memories of an arctic kingdom. Adios to the little gold bracelet that Techno had given to him to convince Tommy to leave him alone.
Finally, when he stood in an empty room, all the reminders gone, he looked in the mirror.
And, he saw his wings.
His wings- the soft feathers stretching into a huge wingspan, pale and hiding what colors the true feathers would be. God, he hoped they weren’t grey.
His wings were perhaps the biggest connection he had to Phil. They were the last tie that he needed to sever.
Tommy thought it over. He didn’t want his decision to be rushed, or hasty, but he knew what he wanted. It was a few days later, when he was taking a walk with Tubbo, that he finally let his desire be known.
“Tubbo,” He started, seemingly unaware of the shadow in the woods that watched them. “Do you like my wings?”
“Of course I do,” Tubbo replied, looking over. “Why?”
“Oh, well, I was just thinking they reminded me of Phil, a lot. And, considering he disowned me, I don’t like the reminder of a family that doesn’t love me.”
Tubbo frowned. “What are you trying to say?”
Tommy took out an axe, and shoved it into Tubbo’s hands. “I want you to cut them off.”
“What?”
“Cut them off.” Tommy said harshly. “I don’t want to look at them. I hate everyone they’re connected to, so I want them gone. Permanently.”
“If it’s… Are you sure that’s what you want?”
The grey-winged watcher didn’t stay any longer.
___
Philza visited Tommy the next day. Tommy was planting flowers outside of his house, which was remade out of wood, now.
“I see you’ve been busy.” Phil said, and Tommy scoffed.
“Why’re you here?”
Phil sighed. “I just… I’m scared I was too harsh. I wanted to apologize.”
Tommy’s back was covered with a bright red cloak. “You’re a little too late for that.”
“What do you mean?” Phil asked, fear settling down a little.
“All the times you could’ve apologised, and you choose now. I mean, of course you would.” Tommy said, sitting against the walls and looking up at Phil. “You could’ve come home from any of your adventures and been a better father. You could’ve helped Wilbur and I make a country of our own, ‘cause we had no idea what we were doing. You could’ve stopped Techno from killing Tubbo, because he only listens to you. You could’ve taken me home when Wilbur started keeping me from leaving our little ravine. You could’ve stopped Wilbur. You didn’t have to kill him.” Tommy started crying a little, and Phil sighed.
“I’m sorry, Tommy, but I had no idea-”
“And whose fault is that?” Tommy screamed. “I sent you letters the whole time. I knew you’d never read them- maybe that’s why when Dream was abusing me I put every little detail into those little slips of papers. I said what I was really feeling in those letters when I couldn’t admit it to myself. You could’ve taken me down from that pillar. You could’ve realized what was going on when I had panic attacks every time you shut the door a little too loudly. You aren’t stupid. You just don’t care- and that’s why you sided with Dream to destroy the one place that I could truly call home. It’s your own fault that our relationship is irreparable, because you had chance after chance after chance to be my father, and you ignored them. Ignored me. No, Philza Minecraft, it’s far too late to apologise.”
“Do you still have them?” Phil asked softly.
“What, the wings?” Tommy scoffed again. “Of course that’s what you’d ask. Making sure I’m still under your control. Well, Phil, no.”
“No, what?” Phil asked, temper flaring. “Do you have them or not?”
“I know you were in the woods, eavesdropping.” Tommy said. “No, I’m not under your control anymore, Philza.” He took his cloak off, and Phil gasped.
Tommy’s wings were still there. They were beautiful, too. Striking reds and oranges and yellows- a painting of a sunset as a symbol of the ending chapter. “You kept them.”
“I did.” Tommy said, glaring at Phil. “Not for you, though. I was going to let Tubbo chop them off, but I decided that I could go through the pain of losing them after just growing them and have them always in my mind, or,” He tilted his head. “I could keep them. Claim them as mine, learn to fly while you’re grounded forever. I think keeping them hurts you more than it does me- to know that I’m soaring above all of your bullshit, on wings that you gave me, would crush you, I think.”
“Aren’t you still my son, though?” Philza pleaded.
Tommy laughed. “I haven’t been since you walked out the door with Technoblade and left me alone with Wilbur for an entire year, missing my birthday that you promised you’d be at, without so much as a card. I haven’t been your son since you decided to prioritize everything over me, and I certainly am not your son now, when it only benefits you. Bye, Phil. I think you should leave.”
“Tommy, I-”
“You heard him,” came a voice from the doorway. Quackity stood there, arms crossed. Tubbo was behind him. “You should leave. It’s almost time for our family dinner, anyway.”
Phil took a step back. “They’ll never be your true family, Tommy.”
“Thank goodness for that,” Tubbo mentioned. “His biological family kinda treated him like shit.”
Tommy laughed, and patted Tubbo on the shoulder as he went inside. “Bye, Phil. Tell Technoblade I told him to fuck off, will you?”
The countryside echoed Tommy’s laughter as Phil went back to his own home. Apologising was worth a try, but Tommy had been right. He really didn’t care, did he? Maybe that was a realization for another day- Techno needed help with the next farm he was making, after all.

Hannya despised hospitals. She hated the smell of disinfectant, the plain white walls decorated with awareness for the human body, as well as the chairs in the waiting room. Not that the one she was sitting in was uncomfortable, yet her ass felt like a pin cushion since she'd been in the thing for well over an hour and counting. Just ten minutes ago she had gone to the vending machine for a soda, downing the Sprite in one gulp.
She was still staring into the empty soda can as though it would refill with more of the carbonated beverage. Her thumb pressed into the side, crinkling the corner. Above her a TV played an old show, something about two children using their imagination to escape into a new world.
One where they forgot about all the bad stuff, even for a moment, a paradise for two. A haven. Thinking about that made a lump swell in Hannya's throat. She set her can onto a nearby table, curling her hands into her lap. A nail dug into the fabric of her leggings, she winced at the bruise there. It was still throbbing a week later, still sore. Her back arched from the cut diagonal cut, also a week old, but it didn't pulse like the thigh bruise did.
Her old cuts and bruises hurt most days, even though half of them were healed for weeks, despite their ugliness in the beginnings. She used to never recognize herself in the mirror after they fucked. Not screwed, but fucked until she lay beneath him unable to move, a quivering mess of orgasm.
God. She was truly sick.
She inhaled slowly through her nose. Hannya refused to cry in this place. One of the nurses had been looking at her so often, a pitying look in her eyes. Hannya avoided eye contact.
She knew that nurse too well, she'd nearly made a home here. But that was long ago. And the nurse, a petite brunette with gentle doe eyes was always so kind to her.
Vague flashes of Hannya in a room where she was monitored, wearing a gown, and counting the hours on the clock to her meds. No, she wasn't going down memory lane again.
What if she broke again? But not because of him.
Dabi.
ㅤHe twisted the fabric of her shirt, bunching tightly. There were tearing sounds. Fraying sounds. Dragging her to within inches of his leering, predatory smile.
ㅤHer shirt came away in a ribbon, leaving her in unkempt, scant rags. He sneered, pinching a nipple as her pert little breasts jiggled free. Dabi tweaked the nipple, and swatted her breast with an open-palmed slap.
Hannya let out a cry between a gasp and a moan.
Dabi clenched his fist around her throat, thrust his arm so she was pinned to the wall behind her. One hand constricted the air from her lungs, while the other twisted cruelly on the same nipple from before.
"Scared yet?"
"No."
ㅤㅤ"No need to lie."
ㅤHis other hand slipped low, her breast freed from his cruel touch only for his hot breath to caress it. Dabi sank teeth into her its supple flesh, snakelike tongue uncoiled to writhe slick against the nipple. His loose fingers delved between her thighs, groping a handful of her warm, tender sex.
ㅤHe didn’t need her to black out from the choking, but it was designed so that every throb of pleasure he squeezed into her body lightened her head. A cruel, sadistic practice to strangle every last drop of ecstasy, to send her spirit into heaven but her body to hell.
Dabi's fingers were long and defined, two sunken deep into the supple heat of her cunt. His pace, merciless. The villain ground the heel of his wrist firmly against her clit, assaulting every inch. He worked in and out of her with aggressive vigor, stirring up loud, sloppy noises from her.
She felt him adjust, she bit her lip from the harsh penetration when he slammed himself into her, those haunting blue eyes never leaving her face.
"You're mine, Hannya."
"I'm yours."
"If another man looks at you the way I look at you, or even thinks about fucking you, I'll split his goddamn skull."
Hannya snapped back to reality at the alert of her name being called. She remembered now that she had been called into the exam room for tests. The gown felt paper thin on her, exposing her to the nurse who held her clipboard in hand.
She hadn't commented on the palm bruise on her thigh or the cut on her back. Hannya was almost relieved her skin was back to semi-normal. It had been a long time since she last been here. How long ago?
Three years since her last attempt.
"You're doing well Hannya, much better since your last visit with us. You've been keeping up with all of your appointments, last time you were hear you had bad anemia and an infection. You bounced back like a champ. "
Hannya smiled faintly. The plump old woman reminded her of a doting grandma.
"Your appetite back to normal?"
"Yes ma'm. Everything is good."
She tried best to hide the clip in her speech.
"Now that we're following up, I'd like to wait for the rest of your test results to come in."
Hannya hid her impatience, wishing time would go forward, she could grab her things and leave. Back to her home where she could close off the world. Block everyone out. Would Dabi be waiting for her? For once, she didn't want to see him. As much as their sadistic games were fun time both of them, she just didn't have the desire. No other man could get her off the way Dabi did.
Lately, she dreaded seeing him propped in her couch, or getting a text from him. She could damn near feel him without him being near. A moment later, when the same woman poked her head in, Hannya actually beamed.
The door closed behind her.
That's when Hannya left the hospital in a daze, barely clutching her phone and purse, she didn't even know she drove home until she parked in the driveway. Turning off the engine, she sat in stunned silence, her knuckles tight onto the steering wheel.
God, she just wanted to turn back time to the last month, the last year, erase everything. She was numb enough as is and she hoped Dabi wasn't waiting on her. She just couldn't take it right now.
“No,” she said, barely audible. The nurse's words echoing in her ears once more.
A sob escaped her. She dragged herself out of her vehicle, barely registering her feet moving towards her home, inside of her apartment. She locked the door behind her. And didn't have to look around to see a tall man with spiked dark hair and a smile that gave her goosebumps.
"Dabi..."
"Miss me?"
Her legs felt like jelly. Her heart was being so fast she feared it rip itself through her chest. Hannya's knees shook, and her heart hammered in my chest. She felt like she was already walled in, and she didn’t even know it.
“I wish I’d never met you,” she said, almost whispering.
He stopped, his boots creaking the wooden floor under him. “Believe me, girl, the feeling is fucking mutual.”
No arguments, no shouting, no cursing even though she wanted to spew a blue streak at him. Eventually she fell onto her knees, the metallic clink of a belt and a zipper being pulled down; she parted her lips for Dabi's cock already slick with precum. She swallowed him into the back of her throat.
"Good girl," he praised her, stroking the back of her head.
___________________________________________
Hannya hadn't seen Dabi since that day, what felt like over a month had turned into sixteen months. As much as she didn't care, she ached for him, and not in the sexual sense. She truly yearned for his company if she could actually believe it. Just what happened to him after that?
No texts, no calls. No sudden appearing without warning. Poof! He never told her he was leaving. Then again he never told her a lot of anything. Hannya often dreamt of him, as the little boy named Touya. The same boy who came crying to her in the catacombs and she to him. Two kids yearning for a place in the world.
She hadn't given up hope she'd see him again, if ever. Hannya swiped her fingers across her phone screen, tucking her device back into her pocket, her blue eyes swiveled up the moon, an ache swelling in her chest.
"I'm losing it..." She mumbled, proceeding to walk. She was patting her pockets for her car keys when a hand snaked its way around her forearm, dragging her into a brick corner, pinning her against a wall.
She couldn't scream because of the stranger's hand covering her mouth. Her eyes doubled in size, his sinister smirk making her skin flush.
Touya!
"Dabi." It came out as a muffle.
"Like you've seen a ghost," he sneered, letting her go.
"For a minute I thought I did..." She whispered.
His eyes raked over her outfit, eyes narrowing in on her chest. He sure knew how to make her vulnerable, naked without undressing her. So he hadn't left after all. Was he hiding from her?
He was never far to begin with. Something told her this wasn't a social visit, she needed to get home before she did something like kiss him. He'd take her right here in public. Wouldn't be the first time.
"I was looking for you, " she said.
"Is that a fact?" His voice was utterly emotionless. Not the least bit of warmth.
"I suppose I was looking for you, too. You made a big mistake Hannya."
The way he said it made Hannya scoot an inch from him.
"What are you talking about?" Hannya remained composed, furrowing her dark brows. Dabi only advanced.
"Telling lies, keeping secrets. It was all gonna come out eventually, you just should have been more careful."
"Dabi..." He chuckled, one hand stuffed in his jacket pocket.
"I...I meant to find you...I was looking for my family."
Dabi almost laughed, shaking his head slightly.
"You were looking for a family, huh? One could argue it's my family you’re looking for right? How are my baby boy and girl by the way? Got my eyes don't they?"
All the color drained from Hannya's face.
A glimpse into memory had her back in the exam room months ago.
"We ran more tests Hannya. Your bloodwork shows you’re also pregnant, a little over eight weeks along. Congratulations.”
Why couldn't the Earth just swallow her whole now? There's no way he could have known. No she wouldn't have told him right away, if at all. He wouldn't have been a great father. When she was told she was pregnant Hannya wanted to cry, scream, break something or even someone. The last thing she had ever wanted inflicted on her had happened, she was in such hysterics she nearly fainted.
Why couldn't it have been anyone but him? The raw cry she let out. She imagined life with two tiny humans, ones she could give unconditional love to. Innocent souls. Her twins. She knew she was going to keep them, her darling babies. How she tried to keep them from Dabi and now...
"You knew...how long..."
"Does it matter? You honestly didn't think you could hide them from me forever Hannya. You should know better than that." His voice was almost a taunt.
"Try keeping them away from me, if you so much as leave with them I'll burn everything down in my path, everyone, to get what I want."
It was like a slap in the face. He wouldn't? Right? No, he had no rights towards their children. Her children. As far as Hannya knew Dabi was just the sperm donor.
Hannya scowled.
Dabi smirked.
He was right, the twins got his eyes alright.
Still advancing, Dabi pinned Hannya to the rough brick wall, his nose level with hers. He didn't want to admit he missed his little devil. He had to resist the urge to to tear off her clothing and fuck her until she was begging him to stop. God, her scent. She couldn't have been more beautiful, plump lips, inviting breasts, fair skin he wanted to mark again.
"I'll be watching you and our children, doll. Who would have thought..."
He gripped her oncoming wrist from slapping him. Should he break it? No. Some other time. He released her, backing up to give her space, almost yearning for the closeness again. No more talk, he left quietly as he came. He heard the faint falling of Hannya on her knees, cursing him to hell and back.

Chapter 1: The Journey to Hogwarts
It had been a warm, sunny day when you heard an owl screech outside. You watched from the window as it swooped in by your front door, carrying a small letter in its talons. The brown tawny owl sat on the sidewalk for just a second before it hurried away again. You watched it disappear into the distant blue sky. As you walked to the front door you could see that your father was clutching the letter to his chest. It took him a good five minutes of staring at it before he handed it to you. It was your Hogwarts letter. You had been waiting all year to receive it, and your father was overjoyed now that you had.
You weren’t exactly sure why he was so happy, but you caught him almost sobbing into your mother’s shoulder later that night when they thought you had gone to sleep. You thought for a moment that he was mad about your letter, but after you listened to them speak for a minute you realized that they were happy tears. You had grown up around magic your whole life. Your uncle and your grandparents were all brilliant wizards. Your mother was a muggle, sure, but that didn’t make you think that you wouldn’t get into Hogwarts. You didn’t show any magical ability until you were almost 10, but that fact never really crossed your mind growing up. You had gotten mad at your father one day, for something you couldn’t even remember now, but you were 9, and all that childlike anger boiled up inside you. It burned hotter and hotter until your face was burning red, and then the teacup that your father had on his side table exploded, sending scalding hot liquid onto the carpet and armchair. You expected him to be mad with you, furious even, but instead he had calmly asked if you caused that to happen. You said yes and then tried to quickly explain how you didn’t mean it, but you were cut off. You were being enveloped in a crushing hug and your dad picking you up and spinning and laughing. Laughing? Why was he laughing? You had just ruined his favorite teacup and spilled tea all over the floor. He set you down and took you by the shoulders. “I’m so proud of you.” You looked over at the mess you created, and he waved it off. “Don’t worry about that. I’ll clean it up. You’ve got magic!” He stood up and quickly ran into the next room, searching for your mother. You could hear him laughing down the hallway. “She’s a witch! I can’t believe she’s actually a witch!” Just over a year later, when your letter came, he was as overjoyed as he was the day with the tea. The next day you set out to London to buy all of your supplies. Your mother had stayed at home, but you and your father met up with your uncle in Diagon Alley. He and your father both worked at the Ministry together. He worked in the Department of International Magical Cooperation, while your father worked in close contact with the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office. He worked mainly in Muggle Studies, helping the Ministry to learn more about the average muggle. You were told once that it was one of the lowest jobs you could get at the Ministry, but your father seemed to enjoy it. It was how he had met your mother after all. You learned then to do your own research on matters, instead of just taking other people’s opinions as your own.   Once you had gotten all your supplies from Diagon Alley, you separated from your uncle to head back out into London. You were admiring your new wand, and the fine intricacies on it, when your father stopped to say hello to someone. The man he stopped was an odd looking fellow, with bright red hair sticking up from the top of his head. His clothed screamed pure-blood wizard to you, as they matched almost perfectly with what your grandparents wore; an old robe and a handmade vest. Your father introduced you to the man in front of him as Arthur Weasley, a coworker of his. You waved at him shyly before going back to studying your wand; you wanted to know every fine detail of it. You looked it up and down, from end to tip, ran your fingers over the wood to feel the texture of it. You were about to put it up to your mouth to see what it tasted like when another shock of red hair appeared in your peripheral vision. You looked up, tongue hanging slightly out of your mouth, wand inches from it. Two boys had appeared at Arthur’s side. They looked exactly the same and you had to blink a couple times to make sure you weren’t seeing double. Arthur apparently had twin sons. They were both wearing sweaters that looked almost similar to the ones your grandmother made you, but theirs had letters on them in bright gold yarn. An “F” and a “G.” “These are my boys, Fred and George,” Arthur introduced them. “Well, two of my boys. The others stayed at home for this trip. The twins are enough to handle by myself.” They both turned to look at you. You quickly brought your tongue back into your mouth and dropped your wand to the side. Before they could get a word out to you, their father said goodbye to yours and grabbed them both by their sweaters to push them past you. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” your dad called as Arthur walked away. He turned to you. “Those boys are in the same year as you. Maybe you’ll end up in the same house and can become friends.” You turned to look at the way they went. You could hardly see through the crowd and were just barely able to spot the redheaded father. Only one of the twins appeared to be with Arthur, and for a second you were concerned that the other had gotten lost in the crowd. Suddenly, a face appeared in front of yours. “Fred tied your shoelaces together while you were staring at your wand,” was all he said before he ducked back into the crowd. He headed back towards his father, who was now searching for him, calling out his name. It seemed that George was the nicer of the two twins. You looked down at your feet, and sure enough, they were tied together. One step and you would’ve been face first into the cobblestone. Why the one felt it necessary to come all the way back here just to tell you his brother was a bit of a jerk, you weren’t sure, but you appreciated it. Maybe you could be friends with at least George. Fred, you weren’t so sure about. You looked up at your father to see if he had anything to say, but he was staring at a map of London he had taken out of his pocket. He hadn’t seemed to notice the boy come back at all. ------------------------- September 1st, 1989 snuck up on you faster than you had ever expected it. You spent the last few days of your summer holiday with your muggle friends, as you knew you wouldn’t see them again until at least Christmas. It was hard to say goodbye to them, but at the same time you couldn’t be more excited to make friends who were actually magical like you were. Your father had an emergency at work, so it was your uncle who took you to King’s Cross that day in London. The station was busy and full of Muggles, but it was easy for him to find the correct platform, as he had been there multiple times before. You stopped for a moment to watch a few families make their way through the wall and onto the platform. Still a little bit nervous about using magic to this caliber, you had to be encouraged by your uncle to go through the wall. He took your trolley from you and stood you perfectly center facing the brick. “It’s really quite simple,” he said, bending down to your level. He pointed at the stones in front of you. “Just run straight at it. It won’t hurt you. I’ll take care of your luggage.” You nodded your head and took in a deep breath. Letting out the breath, you started with a jog, picking up the pace as you neared the wall. Your eyes closed when you were within inches of the wall, preparing for the impact. When no impact came, you opened your eyes to see the steam engine in front of you. Your feet stopped moving immediately. You turned around, a big smile on your face, to see your uncle enter behind you. “Welcome to the Hogwarts Express.” He bent down in front of you again to be at your eye level. “Remember, your father is very proud of you. He’s absolutely gutted that he can’t be here, but he wanted me to give you this.” He reached into the bag he was carrying and pulled out a disposable camera. One like what your mother would use when you went on holiday. “He wants you to use this to create memories and to remember the important ones. You can get it developed when you come home for Christmas.” You nodded at him in understanding. “Now, most of the pure-blood students probably won’t know what this is, so don’t let them get you down for using Muggle technology.” “There’s nothing wrong with Muggle technology,” you told him, matter of factly. “Some of it’s even cooler than magic.” He chuckled slightly at that. “I know, I know. But some wizards think everything made by Muggles is rubbish. Just ignore them.” “Or I could show them how cool it really is,” you said, reaching out for the camera. “Yeah, or you could do that.” He stood up in front of you. “Before I give this to you, I need a picture. Smile.” You stood in front of the train engine with the goofiest of grins on your face. Your uncle snapped the picture quickly and then handed you the camera. “Remember there’s only 26 pictures left on that,” he quickly informed you. “If you make a friend who has an owl, you can always write your mum to send you another one if you run out.” “Will do. Thank you.” You reached towards him and gave him a quick, tight hug. The clock on the wall behind him read 10:55. “I gotta go! Thank you again!” You ran off towards the train as he shouted his goodbye back at you. -------------------------- Finding a compartment to sit in was relatively hard, as they were mostly filled with upperclassmen. Towards the back of the train you eventually found a compartment with two familiar boys in it. They sat on opposite seats near the window, tossing something between the two of them. You knocked on the glass as you slid the door open. “Do you mind if I sit here?” “You sure about that?” one of them asked. “Percy didn’t warn you about us?” “I don’t know who this Percy is,” you told them, stepping into the compartment. “Why would he be warning people about you.” You sat down next to the twin who had on a blue sweater. The other one was wearing brown. “Percy’s our older brother. A third year,” Blue Sweater told you. “He’s been telling people that we’ll prank them if they share a compartment with us,” Brown Sweater said. They continued to toss the small object between the two of them. “Well one of you has already tried to prank me,” you said, looking between the two of them. “But the other one told me about it. So I know I can trust at least one of you.” Brown Sweater stopped suddenly, the small object in his hand. “You told her!?” He tossed the object at his brother, who threw his hands over his face in defense. The object bounced off his forearm, and you caught it as it headed your way. It seemed to be just a small rubber ball. The one who you now assumed was Fred continued yelling at his brother. “It’s not much of a prank if you tell them about it before it happens! I don’t know how I can even call you my brother anymore.” He folded his arms and pouted as he looked out the window at the passing hills. “Fred, stop being so dramatic,” George said. “She was a stranger. And our dads work together.” “You’re lying,” Fred said, now looking at George. “You told her because you think she’s cute.” Now both you and George froze. You could feel the tips of your ears burning hot. You squeezed the ball tightly in your hand as a sort of distraction from this conversation. George mumbled out some sort of defense, but you didn’t hear it. You were too focused on your hand, which now held some sort of slimy black goo. The ball had dissolved when you squeezed it hard enough. “You tricky little gremlins,” you mumbled, caused them to stop their bickering to look at you. “No wonder no one wanted to sit with you.” You stood up, the goo dripped off your hand and onto the carpet. You reached for the door with your good hand. “Hey, we didn’t mean to get you with that, we’re sorry,” George said. You could hear the sincerity in his voice. “Yeah, you’re the one who caught the ball,” Fred said. You turned around and held your black covered hand out towards Fred. “Catch this,” you said, pushing your hand quickly into his face. You let out a wave of laughter as you pulled your hand away and looked at Fred’s face. The goo had gotten into his hair and matted his eyebrows and smeared down the side of his face. George let out a snort as he got a look at his brother. “Good one,” he said, holding up his hand for a high five. You grinned as you slapped your hand against his, sending goo spraying against the train window. “Didn’t think that one through, did you.” “No, no I didn't,” George said, wiping his hand on the seat he was sitting on. You both looked over at Fred, who was still trying to get the goo off of his face, also wiping the contents on his seat. “You okay there, Freddie?” George asked his brother. Fred looked up at him and then over at you. “Yeah, just thinking of a way to get even is all.” “Good luck with that,” you said, reaching for your camera. The twins looked at you curiously. You snapped a picture of Fred’s face, still covered in goo. “What’re you doing?” Fred asked. “Blackmail,” you simply explained, stuffing the camera back in your bag. ---------------------- “Five other siblings?!” you questioned, quite exhausted from the thought of that large a family. “I couldn’t even imagine.” “Yes, unfortunately,” Fred said. “You’re sure to meet Percy and Charlie soon. They’re third and sixth years. Both Gryffindors. Our whole family has been Gryffindors, actually.” “I suppose that means you two are hoping to get the same,” you mused at them. They both laughed. “Not so much as hoping,” George said. “We’re more expecting. Family tradition and all.” “But it’s gonna be awfully dreadful if we get stuck in the same house as Percy for five years,” Fred added. You laughed at that. The twins really had an odd way of viewing their brother. “What about you?” George asked, lightly elbowing you in the arm. “Hhmmm? What about me?” you asked, looking up at him. “Siblings? Family house traditions?” George pressed further. “Oh no. None of that. I’m an only child,” you told them. “Grandparents were both Hufflepuffs and my uncle was a Ravenclaw.” “And your parents?” Fred asked. “My mother is actually a Muggle,” you informed them. “And my dad didn’t go to Hogwarts.” They both seemed taken aback by that statement. “Didn’t go to Hogwarts?” George asked. “Did his parents ship him off to a different country?” Fred added. “No,” you simply stated. “He went to a Muggle school. He doesn’t have magic.” “No way!” they both said, basically shouting at you. You were slightly shocked by their sudden change in attitude. “Your dad is a squib?” Fred questioned you. You looked between the two of them, severely confused at this point. “I’ve never heard that word before.” “A squib is a person who doesn’t have magical powers, but their parents do. Basically the opposite of a Muggle-born wizard,” Fred explained to you. “They’re very rare,” George continued. “The caretaker at Hogwarts is actually a squib. He’s the only we’ve ever heard of before.” You thought over this new information for a moment. “I guess it’s true that he was born to a pure-blood family, but I always thought it was normal for some wizards’ children to not have magic. Just like, as you said, some Muggle’s randomly have children with magic.” “That logic does make sense when you look at it that way,” George said. It was silent for a moment before Fred asked another question. “How did your dad get a job at the Ministry if he doesn’t have magic?” “Working in muggle studies, you don’t need much magic,” you explained to them. “Plus my uncle also works for the Ministry, and he put in a good word for him.” You sat in silence for another couple minutes. You weren’t quite sure what to say anymore after that conversation. It was getting late and you were to be at Hogwarts within the hour. “Hey,” George said next to you. “Yeah?” you asked him. “If I were you, I’d be careful with who you share that information about your father with,” he said. “Because some pure-bloods think everything made by Muggles is rubbish?” you asked, finishing his thoughts for him. “Well I wouldn’t put it that way,” he said. He mulled over his thoughts for a second. When he spoke again, it was soft, like he didn’t really want to say what he was saying. “But yeah. Some pure-bloods think they’re above everyone who is of mixed blood or Muggle-born. With your blood status, I don’t even know what they’d think.” “What about your family?” you asked, looking between the two of them. Suddenly you were very worried that you were telling your whole life story to two boys who were basically strangers. “What?” Fred asked. “You’re pure-bloods,” you said to them. “But your dad reminded me very much of my pure-blood grandparents. And my grandparents would never think like that.” “Neither would we,” Fred said, his brown eyes lacking any hint of mischievousness for the first time since you met him. “Our family doesn’t have much,” George said, “so we know what it’s like to be looked down on by other pure-bloods.” You let out a sigh and looked out the window at the darkening sky. The stars would be out soon, and they were sure to look pretty glittering over the lake by the castle. “I’m sorry that I accused you of that,” you said, tearing your eyes away from the window to look first at George, who quickly darted his eyes away from yours, then at Fred, who held your eye contact. “No worries,” Fred replied. “How about I make it up to you by showing you this,” you said, rummaging around in your bag. You pulled out the camera. “This is a disposable camera. It just takes pictures. Not any of the magical moving pictures, but pictures nonetheless. My dad wanted me to have it to capture memories.” “What kind of memories?” George asked, looking at you again. “Happy ones, I suppose,” you told them. “But also sad ones. One’s that make me feel like I want to remember the moment, no matter what. And you know what? I’d like to remember my first train ride forever. Would you two mind taking a picture with me?” The twins looked at each other and then back to you. “I don’t see why not,” they both said. You looked out into the corridor of the train and spotted a student who looked to be a year or two older than you. You got her to take a picture for you and thanked her as she walked away. “Do we get to see the picture?” George asked expectantly. “Not until I get them developed over Christmas holiday,” you informed them. “That’s months away!” they both exclaimed, falling back into their seats. Even though you had been apprehensive of Fred to begin with, you were quickly growing to like both of the twins. Looking over at Fred, he still had bits of black goo stuck in his hair. You were sure it would take a couple showers to fully wash out. Sitting back down next to George, you sat a little too close to him, your shoulders brushing as you tried to get comfortable. Quickly, you moved a couple more inches away, having remembered the comment Fred had made earlier. You could feel your ears burning hot again, and glancing at George out of the corner of your eye, you were positive that his ears were red too. ------------------------ The twins were right about their family tradition, as the sorting hat was barely on their heads before it sorted them both into Gryffindor. An older redheaded boy was cheering excitedly as they sat down at the table next to him and another redhead. As you walked up to stand in front of everyone to be sorted, you could feel your heart racing. You weren’t nervous; it didn’t matter where you were sorted, as you had no ill feelings towards any house. The scary part was the uncertainty of the future that awaited you. If you got sorted into Gryffindor, you were sure to remain friends with the twins. If it was any other house, you weren’t sure. The thought of maybe losing the first two friends you had made here was what scared you the most. You cautiously sat down on the stool, your eyes turning to the sea of students in front of you. You found Fred and George in the crowd, and they both gave you thumbs ups. Smiling back at them, you let out a deep breath. The hat was placed on your head, and you could hear it contemplating for a few seconds. “I know exactly where you should go,” it said. “Already?” you asked, looking up at the brim. “Yes, I’m quite certain,” it said. You sat in silence for another few seconds before it shouted out “Slytherin!”

I can ask for a scenario in which Shu is forced to marry because Karlheinz forced him to do so, but initially he cheats on his wife because he still considers himself single, but over time he starts to love her, but she doesn't want him for close because she are sad about the betrayals at the beginning of the marriage
SHU
When his father had turned up at their door, like he always did, and told him he was getting married, the only thing Shu wanted to do was get back into bed, turn around and cover his ears. He wasn’t interested, especially in a miserable little human. One glance at your wide eyes and trembling hands and he already knew what you thought of him. Some big, bad, scary vampire out of a fairytale. He still remembered the way you squeaked, how high-pitched your voice was, how your breathing stuttered and your heart started to race, when he pushed you against the wall of his room a few hours after you’d met.
“Don’t think this changes how I live my life.” He’d told you. “This situation is troublesome. I don’t care about you. Get that into your head.”
When you’d nodded slowly, he’d drifted away back to the music room - the only place his brothers wouldn’t bother to go in the mansion so he could finally sleep. He’d ignored the sounds of your sniffles from behind the closed door.
Shu hadn’t quite believed that his father was serious about the wedding, but it came and went. Something in his chest jolted a little when he saw you waltzing up the altar in that white, frilly thing - but it disappeared as soon as you lifted the veil away from your face. Always, when you looked at him, you had that terrified expression. It made Shu want to snort. As if he’d waste his energy trying to hurt you. The only thing you’d do is cower in a corner. Your lips had trembled against his when he kissed you dispassionately; nothing more than a press of his mouth against yours. Warm, he’d thought automatically when the two of you separated, but Shu pushed the thought out of his head. All humans were warm. He knew that. You came to live with him and his brothers after that. For the most part, they ignored you. When Ayato or Laito got aggressive with you, Shu felt he had to step in; you looked so scared, legs trembling underneath you like a newborn lamb. And God, you were so noisy. It was like every part of you was constantly huffing and puffing, even when you were just walking down the corridor. Except once, when you found Shu in his bed, his hands on another woman. Then your breath had hitched, and you’d been more still than he’d ever seen you for a minute. Then you’d turned and fled. So what? He’d thought, It’s just some maid. It’s not like I’ve done anything more than kiss her. Despite himself, something in him couldn’t bring himself to continue. The woman had squawked in indignation when he pushed her off him and ordered her to get out.
Things... changed after that. You never came down to the dining room any more, preferring to have your meals sent up to your personal quarters. Shu found himself searching for you everywhere; his eyes roaming empty rooms, something strange thrumming through his veins. When the two of you passed each other by chance in the corridor, you’d avert your eyes and walk faster. But you didn’t want to avoid him, Shu knew. He could hear it; the way your pulse sped up every time he met your gaze, the subtle way a pink flush crept up your neck. He waited and waited for you to approach him - to slap him, cry, beat your fists against his chest, to do something, anything - but nothing.
The next time he saw you in the corridor, he caught your arm.
“Let’s go somewhere,” he said.
You just stared at him with those wide eyes, your lips trembling. Just like they had when he kissed you at your wedding.
“Where?” You finally replied. Your voice sounded small, weak, wavering.
“Choosing is troublesome. Get your shoes and let’s go.”
From that day forward, every week, the two of you walked together. Shu would never consider himself the most active person, but a stroll through the forest bordering the mansion was far preferable to being dragged around the mall. At first, you kept your distance, staring at him shyly. Then, as you grew more used to his company, you drew closer and closer, until one day, you started talking. Shu learned about your life before you came to the mansion, the way your family had treated you. He learned about your hobbies, your secrets, your passions, and in return, he shared a few secrets of his. He’d never forget the way you laughed when he told you how his father had forced him to train in the Arctic, and the way you doubled over clutching your stomach when he told you about the time he nearly got maimed while wrestling a polar bear. The sound of your laugh, he thought, was clearer, more sparkling, than the fresh blanket of snow he woke up to every morning there. But every time his fingers brushed against yours, you’d pull away suddenly, withdrawing into yourself.
When Shu came to your room one evening, he startled. You were sitting on your bed, tears running down your cheeks, sobbing into hands.
“Why are you doing this to me, Shu?” You cried.
Did I do something wrong? Shu’s eyes widened in panic. “What?”
“You’re torturing me. Do you really love me, Shu? Or did you love those women at the beginning instead? In fact, did you ever love me?”
He couldn’t take the way you stared up at him with those beautiful eyes, both full of tears. Shu didn’t know what to say. The feelings you’d stirred within him in the time you’d been spending together - he couldn’t say what they were. He said he’d never care about you, but... the more the two of you talked, the closer you drew to him, the more Shu began to realise that maybe he had been wrong. Maybe he should have listened to that squeeze in his chest when he saw you walk down the aisle. Then maybe I could do something.
Before even he knew it, he was moving. Your body - so small, so warm, so soft, so human and nothing like any demon he’d ever touched, or drank from, or loved - was pressed against his, his arms around you. Your scent surrounded him - soft, like her chest - and the pounding of your blood rushed in his ears. It took Shu a minute to realise you’d stopped crying, and another minute to realise your hands were now grasping at his back, desperately trying to press yourself closer to him.
“I’m... sorry.” He murmured in your ear. You shivered.
“I can’t forgive you.” His heart squeezed. “But... I’m going to try.”
If you had asked Shu a few years ago what he felt about you - what he felt about love, and marriage, settling down, any of that - he would’ve said one word: nothing. But now? Now, he thought as he felt you sigh into his shoulder, it’s... everything.

Marco ran up the driveway of his house, panting from exertion as he jogged steadily on the uneven ground, clutching a large box tightly in his hands, making sure not to ruin the steaming hot pizza inside. He didn’t slow for a second, keeping his focus and attention entirely on the front door to his house, which he kicked open without hesitation, lacking the hands to turn the doorknob, already knowing it was left unlocked. After all, any burglar dumb enough to try and break in would find himself biting off way more than he could chew, since both he and Star were well trained in combat.
The red-clad teen was breathing heavily as he stepped into the living room of his wonderful home, the lights all turned off and what had to be at least a dozen candles all lit and scattered about the room, creating an absolutely breathtaking and romantic atmosphere. The boy used the back of his foot to close the door behind him, before calling out loudly to his seemingly empty house, “Star, I’m home!”
Normally, he would keep his voice down this late at night out of fear of waking his family up but both Mariposa and his parents were gone for the night, his sister to stay overnight with her best friend Meteora and his parents away on an overnight camping trip in the Forest of Certain Death with Star’s parents (the four adults becoming very close friends in the few years since the Great Cleaving), leaving the house to just him and Star. Just the way they wanted it.
The boy took a few steps forward, looking around for his girlfriend somewhere in the darkness of the room, only to be practically toppled over as Star appeared out of nowhere and trapped him in a surprise hug. “Marco!” she shouted in delight, squeezing him as tightly as ever, while the hooded teen screamed, holding the box over his head to avoid dropping it as Star continued to cling to his midsection. “I’m so glad you’re back!” the blonde cheered, her voice as bubbly as ever and the boy couldn’t help but grin.
“Yep, I’m back,” Marco said with an enthusiastic smile down at his loving girlfriend. “Sorry it took me so long, Emilio’s was closed after a herd of Snippergriffs apparently got inside, so I had to improvise.”
Star rolled her eyes, finally releasing her grip on her Marco, putting her hands on her hips. “Ugh, dang, Snippergriffs, they ruin everything!” the blonde muttered angrily, cursing the very nature of the pesky critters of her homeland.
Marco, seeing his girlfriend’s distraught behavior, quickly changed the subject as he looked around the room, which almost radiated with an otherworldly glow. “I see you were busy while I was gone.”
Star’s bright enthusiasm returned full-force as she looked around the room with pride, saying with satisfaction, “Yeah, I thought this way it would all be much more romantic.” She arched her eyebrows knowingly on the last word, causing Marco to chuckle. “Do you like it?” the girl asked hopefully, her hands hovering near her mouth in anticipation for her boyfriend’s opinion.
The boy nodded happily. “I love it! It’s perfect, Star,” Marco said, setting the pizza down on a nearby coffee table. “Now then, do you know what today is?” the boy asked, doing little finger guns in the air for emphasis.
“Uhh,” Star began, thinking the question over. “Date night?”
Marco shook his head, “Well, yeah but you know what else it is?”
“Hmmm,” the blonde said, tapping a finger to her chin. “Friendship Thursday?”
The hooded teen frowned in disappointment, asking in a hinting tone, “Anything else?”
Star contemplated this for a few seconds, the boy growing more and more disappointed with each passing second before Star snapped her fingers and said confidently, “The last day for Stop N’ Slurp’s half-off sale.”
Marco shrank at that answer, looking sadly at the ground. He couldn’t believe Star had forgotten how special today was. The blonde seeing the depressed look on her boyfriend’s face, quickly added, “Marco, I’m just teasing of course I know what today is.”
The latino’s sad frown turned into a bright grin as he and Star shouted as one, “The anniversary of the Blood Moon Ball!” The two burst out into laughter at their shared sentence, Star clutching her stomach as she practically doubled-over from her giggle fit, Marco very lightly grabbing onto the girl’s shoulders to keep her upright as he tried to fight through his own laughter. Finally, the two recovered from their laughing fit, wiping tears from their eyes as Marco said, “Can’t believe we still do that.”
“I know, right,” Star said, opening the box of pizza and taking out a slice. She plopped down on the couch, before patting the seat next to her beckoning Marco over. The boy smiled, picking up his own slice, before sitting down beside her, the girl laying sideways on the couch and resting her legs on the boy’s lap as she practically inhaled the pizza slice, munching on it greedily. “It’s funny,” Star said, in between bites of food, not even bothering to swallow as she spoke in a muffled tone. “After the curse was broken, I thought we wouldn’t do that anymore”
“Guess it had nothing to do with the curse,” Marco replied, before taking a bite of his own slice.
“Guess not,” Star said, before moaning in delight. “Oh man, Marco! This pizza is delicious!”
Marco nodded his head in agreement, “Yeah, it is! Looks like we just found our new favorite pizza place, right Star?”
Star giggled, before saying in a teasing tone, “Don’t let Emilio hear you say that, considering what happened last time.”
Marco blushed, looking away from his pretty girlfriend. “Come on, Star. That was like three years ago,” he whined in embarrassment.
Star laughed at her Marco’s cuteness before sitting up and planting a kiss on his bright red cheek. “You’re adorable,” she cooed.
“Not as adorable as you,” Marco replied with a playful smirk, his cheeks just slightly painted pink.
“Aww, Marco,” the blonde gushed, putting a hand to her flushing cheeks. “You spoil me.”
“Oh, then just wait and see what I have planned for later,” the hooded teen said with a wink.
Star’s eyes widened in curiosity, before demanding, “Ooh, tell me, tell me, tell me!”
Marco shook his head stubbornly. “Nuh uh, it’s a surprise,” the boy declared.
“Aww come on, Marco, just tell me,” the girl pouted, crawling into his lap as she gave him sad, puppy-dog eyes.
“Nope, your famous pout isn’t working on me this time,” the boy said, raising his head up so he wouldn’t meet her hypnotic eyes. He knew from experience how easy it was to fall into that trap.
“Oh, Marco,” Star said in a sing-song voice, grabbing his chin and pulling his head down so their eyes met. “Just tell me, pwease.” She gave him the saddest, most heart wrenching look she had in her arsenal, even going so far as to whine and quiver her lip.
Marco felt his will crack, his pupils shrinking as he stared into the gorgeous eyes of his favorite person in the world. There were few things that could sway Marco’s judgement and make him lose all sense of anything, and he was staring into one of them right now, the crystal blue of her wide eyes making his heart do a dance.
“Ok, fine,” the boy groaned in defeat, he knew when he had been bested by his bestie.
The blonde clapped her hands, shouting in joy, “Yay!”
He quickly moved his girlfriend off his lap, before saying, “Be right back, I left it in my room.”
“Okay!” Star called after him, practically hopping on the couch as she watched him leave. In the span of about thirty seconds Marco returned, the blonde having time to engulf another slice of the delicious pizza before staring up at her boyfriend with curious blue eyes, her cheeks still stuffed with pizza.
Marco couldn’t help but grin down at the love of his life, her expression making his heart melt all over again. Could she seriously get any cuter? he thought to himself.
“Okay, so, I was gonna wait a little bit before showing you this,” Marco began, keeping his hands behind his back so as to not spoil his surprise. “But then, someone had to go and cheat.” He gave her a halfhearted glare.
The girl swallowed her food before smirking mischievously. “Come on, you know you love me,” she said flirtingly.
The boy nodded at that before declaring with zero hesitation, “Of course I do. But that still doesn’t make it alright.” He gave her a teasing look, which she returned with one of her own.
“Hey, all’s fair in love and war, Diaz,” Star said with a playful wink.
“Anyways,” the boy continued, getting back on subject before he found himself gushing over his cute girlfriend all over again. “I figured since this is a special occasion, I’d show you this.”
He held out a pair of earbuds to Star who eyed them questioningly. “Uh, Marco, I already know you have earbuds.”
“Put one in,” Marco told her cryptically.
Star hesitantly obeyed, confusion still obvious on her face as she inserted the small circular device into her left ear. But as the soft notes hit her tender eardrum Star’s mouth fell open, listening in disbelief as the smooth melody she knew by heart played, every note practically etched into her heart. A flood of memories came back to her at once, filling her with euphoric nostalgia, as the unmistakable notes of the Blood Moon Waltz played into her ear.
She looked up at Marco with disbelief, who had been watching her closely for her reaction and he smiled brightly. “You- How did you- Where did-” the girl stuttered, unable to find words as a lump formed in her throat, tears filling at the edges of her eyes as she choked on a small sob.
Marco stared down at her with soft, loving eyes as he asked her simply, “Do you like it?”
Star nodded, wiping at her eyes to free them of happy tears. “I love it!” she squeaked out. “How did you even find this song?”
The boy shrugged. “I have my ways.”
“Tom,” the girl guessed.
“Tom,” the boy confirmed with a slight nod. “He had a version recorded just for us.”
“I missed this song so much,” the girl sighed, melting into the music as she lost herself to the irresistible tune.
For a few seconds, the two just listened to the graceful melody, before Marco sucked in a breath and held out a hand to his girlfriend. “May I have this dance?”
Star giggled, taking his hand and allowing him to pull her to her feet, before dropping into a graceful curtsey. “You may, kind sir.”
The two shared a laugh as they moved closer to each other, their bodies pressed together as they locked hands. Marco rested a hand on the small of Star’s back, drawing her even closer to his warm presence as he drank in her smell. She always smelled of roses and vanilla and he felt his heart rate increase as she laid her head against this chest.
The boy then began to lead them in a slow waltz around the dimly lit living room, their movements slow but purposeful, moving perfectly in time and sync with their chosen partner. The sound of the gentle waltz drowning out the world around them until it was just the two of them, captured in this moment in time.
Star couldn’t think of when she had been happier, surrounded by warm feelings and sounds as she listened with one ear to the graceful ball music and, with the other, was soothed by the rhythmic pumping of her dear Marco’s heartbeat. The girl snuggled into Marco’s chest after a moment, just loving having him here with her. Nothing in all of Earthni able to make her happier.
Marco clutched Star tightly against him, listening to her gentle breathing as he rested his cheek on the top of her head, her soft hair tickling his skin, and he smiled, feeling complete. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to have Star in his life, and there wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t thank all the forces in the universe for this chance to be loved by someone as wonderful as Star Butterfly.
The two sighed in contentment as they let the music wash over them, taking them back to a simpler time when it was just the two of them trapped under the glow of a single red light. And just like that, it was as if they were back in that moment, time falling away from them as the music continued on an endless loop, sealing them inside its graceful notes.
The two smiled in bliss, their cheeks beginning to burn as, without warning, a pair of hearts and crescent moons formed on their cheeks, remnants of the magical connection the two shared, one that defied logic and space itself. Nothing in the universe could separate the two again as they shared this dance.
“Marco,” the girl whispered, her eyes still closed as she was led slowly around in a circle.
“Hmm?” the boy muttered, incapable of words at the moment, a swirl of emotions causing his head to spin.
“I missed this,” Star said simply, her hand squeezing his tightly.
The boy paused for a moment, not entirely sure what she meant when she said ‘this’. Until he realized she meant dancing to this song and he almost choked on a sob. “Me too,” he replied softly.
“I’m glad we didn’t lose this moment,” Star continued, and Marco felt his heart swell to almost bursting. “Cause there’s no one I’d rather be here with than you. And I just have to tell you one more thing...” Then Star gently leaned her head in, gazing in wonder at Marco’s loving eyes. She took her chance to whisper something in his ear, something that caused the Latino’s cheeks to turn crimson. Marco smiled dorkily before kissing her forehead softly. “Same here, Star,” he said as their eyes met in another tender glow, pupils shining in the glow of their cheeks and candlelight, reflecting all the thoughts and feelings and emotions that had brought them to this moment. Time had lost on meaning on the two young souls as they continued their dance for what felt to them like eternity.
“Same here.”

Chapter 37 Part 2
Stark Spangled Banner Masterlist // Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
The silence that hung over Wakanda was haunting, punctuated only by the odd yell that reached Steve’s ears as people were calling for their fallen friends, family and loved ones. He was vaguely aware that people were gathering around the spot where he and Katie were sat on the floor, no one saying anything, until the still was shattered when Okoye came rushing through the trees. Steve looked up as she stopped short at seeing them all, but she was visibly shaking and her breathing was shallow.
Steve knew what she was going to say before she said it.
“The King is dead.” She announced shakily.
Steve looked at her and bowed his head before his eyes fell once more on Katie. She tore her eyes away from the spot she had been focussed on and turned her face to look at the distraught woman, but still she didn’t speak.
“He did it.” Rhodey spoke gently, looking around. “He got the stones, and he did it.”
“I should have gone for the head.” Thor bowed his eyes in sadness, his voice cracking. “He told me. If I had gone for the head I could have stopped him snapping his fingers and…”
“Thor, once Thanos had all of those stones, we never stood a chance.” Natasha sighed, her voice hoarse.
Steve glanced around the small clearing, there was no sign of Sam either. They’d lost him, Vision, Bucky, Wanda, T’Challa and he had no idea about Tony.
“I must to go back to the palace at once,” Okoye straightened up, “ensure that the princess and Queen Mother weren't…” she paused to regain her composure, "…among the fallen.”
“That might be the best idea.” Bruce looked around “For us all.”
“We can’t.” Katie shook her head, talking for the first time. "We can’t just…” She trailed off, gesturing at Vision’s body.
Thor knelt down next to her, his eyes locking onto hers, his hand reaching out to rest against her neck. “We can come back for him, Little Stark, right Captain?”
Steve looked up and nodded, jerking himself into action.
“Our first priority has to be getting everyone who is injured back into the city for attention.” He stood and offered Katie his hand and she took it, allowing herself to be pulled to her feet. With trembling fingers she gripped Steve’s hand and he squeezed his palm gently around hers. “Okoye, once you are there can you organise transport for everyone?”
“Yes Captain.” She nodded, straightened her shoulders and made her way through the line of trees.
Together the rest of them made to follow the same route, Katie and Steve dropping back, trying to snatch a stolen moment of privacy. Steve wanted nothing more than to hold his wife, and he knew her well enough to be able to read her body language and understand she felt the same, but on some subconscious level it was almost like the two of them knew they had to keep a distance out of respect for the others.
The relief Steve felt that neither of them had lost the other was insurmountable, but how was it fair that so many others hadn’t been so lucky? He was merely grateful for the fact she was still here, and he knew it wouldn’t be fair to show that until they were alone.
But then, besides him, Katie gave a sharp hiss and clutched at her stomach as she felt a searing pain across the lower part of her abdomen and all pretence at keeping that stoic front flew from Steve’s mind.
“Sweetheart? Are you alright?” He stopped, stooping slightly so he could catch her eyes, his hands cupping her face.
“Just took a few knocks but nothing I can’t walk off.” She waved his concern away, straightening up as the pain subsided, taking both his hands in hers. “You?”
“He gave me a pretty hard whack.” He muttered and watched as her eyes travelled over the trickle of blood that was on his temple and his split lip. “But I’m fine.”
Katie looked around to see that everyone had continued to walk before she glanced back at him and felt a wave of tears springing up on her.
“You’re still here.” She whispered. “So many of them, Stevie, I was so scared you…” He wrapped his arms around her, chin resting on her head and she was surprised to feel him shaking. “Me too, Doll, if…” his voice cracked “…if I’d lost you…”
How long they were there they had no idea, but it was when Katie felt another searing pain that they split apart, and this time she doubled over and the sound that left her mouth was a cry, not a hiss.
“That’s it, you need a medic.” Steve instructed, his hand on her back as he yelled out. “Thor!” Katie was aware of heavy footsteps, as another wave of pain hit her and she went light headed. She staggered backwards and glanced up at Steve who had reached out and caught her, his strong arm wrapping round her back, his blue eyes full of concern.
“I don’t…I can’t…” She began, and then her eyes rolled back into her head as they fluttered shut and she went limp in his arms.
“Katie, Sweetheart.” Steve’s voice cracked as he brushed his hand over her forehead. He looked up at Thor, panic on his face and the god nodded.
“I’ll get her to the palace.”
With another swallow, Steve gently moved Katie so she was in his arms and with a flash Thor took off.
“She’s probably just badly bruised and a bit…” Natasha began to speak, her hand gently squeezing Steve’s forearm as the Soldier simply looked up at the sky, before he sprinted after them, not looking back.
***** “No, that’s not…” Steve ran his hands through his hair as the Doctor looked at him. “I mean, she was…” He took a shaky breath as he looked through the window to where Katie was led on the bed in the hospital room, covered in a crisp white sheet.
“I’m sorry, Captain Rogers.” The Doctor looked at him, sympathetically “We’ve operated and removed…” he took a deep breath and Steve looked away, tears stinging his eyes before he looked back.
“Is she,” he sniffed, his voice wobbling with emotion, “is she gonna be ok?” “She should be fine.” The Doctor assured him. “Her vitals are good and there’s no other injuries bar some bruising. You can sit with her if you like.” Steve nodded and the Doctor gave him one last look before he moved away. He paused at the doorway, his hand shaking as he moved to push it open but a voice stopped him.
“How is she?”
He turned to see Natasha. She had been coordinating ensuring the injured and dead that hadn’t been dusted were recovered and looked tired and shaken, like they all were.
“She’s okay.” He said, his voice thick.
“Did they find out what was wrong?” Nat asked and Steve took a shaky breath, as he looked at her, the tears clouding his vision and she frowned “Steve? What is it?” “She was pregnant, Nat.” He stuttered, his voice nothing but a whisper. “All that time over the last few weeks she thought she was ill, and she wasn’t, she was, she was having our baby.” “Oh shit.” Nat mumbled as she wrapped her arms around his bulky frame. Steve buried his face into her shoulder and his chest heaved with the force of his quiet sobs. Nat screwed her face up fighting her own tears as she wound a hand into Steve’s hair, gently soothing him as he cried, helpless to do anything but lend him comfort.
Eventually he pulled away, wiping at his face. “Sorry.” he mumbled and Natasha scoffed.
“You don’t need to apologise, Steve. God, I’m so sorry.” Steve took a deep breath and turned back to the door. He paused again before he looked at her. “No one is to know, not until…” Natasha nodded. “If anyone asks I’ll tell them she took a bad blow.”
Steve sniffed again, and steeling himself, he pushed open the door and crossed the room, taking a seat by his wife’s bed. He took her hand in both of his and pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles, before leaning his cheek against the smooth skin on the back of her hand.
She’d been expecting their baby, and neither of them had known.
God, kids really hadn’t been on the agenda, certainly not for the foreseeable anyway, not whilst they were living in the shadows, but now Steve couldn’t help but feel empty. Empty at the thought that they could have been a family but it had been so cruelly taken from them.
He sat in silence for a while, until what must have been an hour or so later the door opened and he looked up at Natasha as she crossed the room.
“Still sleeping.” Steve answered her silent question and she gave a little nod.
“Do you need anything?”
“No, I’m okay.” he managed a gentle smile, “Thanks.” Natasha nodded and Steve let out a soft sigh. “And thanks for…you know, before.”
“Steve.” a croaky voice from the bed caught his attention and he whipped back round to Katie. Her eyes weren’t open yet, but her face was scrunching up as she began to blink.
“Hey, Doll.” He said softly, his hand tightening around hers as he moved his chair closer to the bed. “You’re your time.”
Katie’s head felt like it was full of fluff, but she turned in the direction his voice was coming from, blinking as his face swam into focus.
“I’ll go fetch someone.” Nat said softly.
“Give me five minutes.” Steve spoke, looking over his shoulder, shooting Nat a significant look. She nodded and Steve turned back to Katie, smiling softly.
“Welcome back.” His hand gently stroked her hair. “What happened?” She asked, looking around the room in confusion.
“You collapsed.” Steve took a deep breath. “After the fight.” She turned back to look at him, frowning. “I can’t have been hit that bad, I had my suit on.” Steve hesitated for a moment, looking down at where his hand grasped hers. How the fuck did he tell her this?
“I err…” He looked up again, taking a deep breath and Katie was surprised to see his eyes were watering.
“Steve, what is it?” She asked, sitting up a little. “Is it Tony? Has he-“
“No, I mean…I don’t know, we haven’t…”
“Then what?” She demanded, her eyes searching his.
“You were err you were…” He swallowed, and the last word stumbled from his lips. “Pregnant.” The words hit Katie like a sledge hammer.
“No, that’s…that’s not possible. I had an IUD, I can’t…” She trailed off as she looked at Steve’s face as his eyes brimmed with tears and then his words registered even more.
You were…not are…
The look on her Soldier’s face said it all as it hit her just what was going on. “No…no,no….”
“Sweetheart…” Steve watched as she frantically pushed down the bed covers, whilst he tried to placate her, but she ignored him and hitched up the top half of the white shorts and T’shirt the Doctors had put her in her. Her hands and eyes gently moved over the inch long incision mark that was already fading thanks to the Wakandan technology, before her hands flattened on her stomach and Steve felt his heart break all over again.
“Was it the snap?” She asked, suddenly needing to know.
“It looks that way, yeah, they had to err…they had to operate.” “He took our baby.” She looked at him, and a tear fell from Steve’s face as she took a deep rattling breath “Oh Steve.”
He wrapped his arms around her and she pressed her face into his chest, as her heart felt like it shattered into a million pieces.
“I’m so sorry.” She sobbed through her tears. “I didn’t know, I swear-” “Hey, hey. You have nothing to be sorry for, you got that?” he pulled back to look at her, moving so that his hands were cupping either side of her face, driving his message home “Nothing…”
“I should have known.” she sobbed as he wrapped his arms around her again “I should have known. I thought it was a bug or food or…”
“Baby, listen to me.” Steve spoke, his voice firm but gentle. “This is not your fault. Nothing could have stopped Thanos and what that snap did.”
Katie heard his words, but she wasn’t really listening. She was numb. How could she have not known? Had she seriously been that wrapped up in herself, in everything else that she had missed the signs? As she wracked her brains, her face crumpled once more and Steve pulled her even closer, burying his face into her hair.
***** They left Wakanda late the next day. Katie hadn’t slept all evening, neither had Steve. He’d laid by her side, curled round her, the feeling of loss for a baby they didn’t even know they were having was suffocating and neither of them knew what to do or say.
After a final check with the doctors, who were satisfied Katie was well enough to leave, not that that was going to stop her anyway, they bid goodbye to the Queen, who assured them that Wakanda would be open to them whenever they needed, just as T’Challa would want. The trip home wasn’t punctuated with the usual chat, no one really spoke other than to occasionally break the silence about what they needed to do next. Thor was wanting to head straight out when he got home to see if he could locate Tony or Thanos and Bruce was trying to get him to wait a while. But as they made plans, Katie found she had no real input, so stayed quiet, lost in her thoughts.
She should have realised her IUD needed swapping out. She should have sussed she was pregnant sooner. So many should haves, and now she really wanted the comfort of her brother’s arms too, but they had no idea where he was. None of the tech in Wakanda had picked anything up. One thing she was thankful for was that no one bar her, Steve and Natasha knew about the baby. She wasn’t sure she’d have coped with the constant sympathy that would have come her way. She’d tell them, eventually, but for now, she wanted to come to terms with it with Steve alone.
The jet landed back at the compound and they all filed off, heading through familiar hallways, only they were now void of life. Steve couldn’t bring himself to look at anything, not to mention the piles of ash that were littered around, instead he simply watched as his wife walked in front of him towards their old living quarters. When they arrived, Katie paused at the door and Steve realised that her hand was shaking. Without saying a word he reached round and gently pushed his palm to the security lock, FRIDAY greeting them somewhat forlornly, and the door swung open.
They stepped in and took a deep breath, walking from room to room, for no reason other than to take everything in. Nothing had changed. Glasses were still on the kitchen shelves, the TV was still on the side, the sofa was exactly how they had left it and their clothes were still in the drawers and closet, toiletries still in the bathrooms. And it was clean. Tony clearly having paid someone to keep up with the housework, just in case. At the thought, Katie’s eyes once more began to sting with tears and she sat on the edge of the bed and removed her boots, dropping them wordlessly to the floor.
“You want to take the bathroom, Sweetheart?” Steve asked, kneeling in front of her and she had to smile, which made Steve do the same as he knew what she’d found amusing. Despite all of Tony’s technology he had never managed to fix the issue that you couldn’t run the two showers in the apartment at the same time without the water running freezing cold. Katie reached out to touch Steve’s face and nodded, offering him a quiet thanks as she headed into the en-suite. She closed the door, but didn’t lock it. She never did, the thought of shutting Steve out of any aspect of her life was alien. She passed the His-and- Her sinks, turned on the waterfall shower and removed her clothes before stepping under the hot water, tilting her face up to greet it, willing it to wash away the events of the past God knows how long.
As she lathered her hair, washing away the dirt that was lodged in it, she felt nothing but an empty hopelessness. Try as she might, she couldn’t help her thoughts straying to Tony and how he was likely to be feeling the same only stranded somewhere millions of miles away from home. If he was alive.
Their baby sure wasn’t.
It was then that the tears and the sobs began to come again, and this time she didn’t even try to choke them back. Their friends were dead along with trillions of other people, her brother was MIA, and they had no idea how to fix any of it.
Steve unzipped the top half of his dirty uniform and dropped it onto the bed, his fingers skating over the star shaped hole in the middle. It had certainly seen better days, like him. He heard the water start in the bathroom and then, as he dropped onto the bed to remove his leg wraps and boots he heard Katie’s crying over the sound of the shower. With a weary sigh he stood up, removed the last of his clothing and headed into the bathroom. As the steam cleared he could see his wife was stood with her hands pressed on the cool tiles of the large shower cubicle, head bowed, her small frame wracked with sobs. Blinking back his own tears, he stepped in gently behind her and she turned to him burying her face into his chest and wrapping her arms around his waist as the water continued to beat down on them. Steve held her shaking body close, squeezing his arms around her and dropping his head to rest on top of hers, his tears escaping into her wet hair.
Steve had no idea how long they were in the shower, but eventually the water started to drop in temperature and he reached round and turned it off, Katie still clinging to him, as if letting him go would mean he would disappear too.
“Honey,” he said gently, his hand tangling in her hair, “you’ll get cold, come on…”
She nodded and allowed him to step out of the shower, where he handed her a large towel before grabbing one for himself.
“Are you hungry?” He asked as they both exited the bathroom. “I can try and find something.” “No.” she said, her voice croaky “I just want to go to bed.”
He dropped a kiss onto the side of her head and then the pair of them set about drying off. Katie pulled on an old Stark Industries T-Shirt that was in one of the drawers, towelled her damp hair and crawled into the familiar sheets. Steve followed shortly, without saying a word as he pulled her to him so her back was clutched to his chest as he dropped another tender kiss to the back of her neck.
“Steve.” she whispered, her tears falling to the pillow as her body began to shake again. “I don’t know what to do.”
“Oh, Doll.” Steve’s voice cracked slightly as he pulled her tighter and she lay her hands over his arm which was wrapped firmly around her waist, and before long she couldn’t fight the sheer exhaustion that overwhelmed her and she drifted off, the sounds of her gentle crying growing silent and her shaking shoulders grew still.
Steve stayed awake well into the night, letting his own tears flow down onto his pillow because whilst she slept, he didn’t have to be strong.
******
The next morning Steve woke long before Katie, although he wasn’t sure if he’d actually slept properly anyway. She had tossed and turned all night, waking a few times crying and he’d simply rocked her back to sleep. Now, with her face pressed into his chest she looked peaceful, so he stayed still for another hour or so. Then, as the first tendrils of light from the morning sun sneaked in through the blinds he felt her stir a little before she gave the usual, adorable twitch of her nose as she woke and he dropped a kiss to the bridge of it as she let out a small murmur and pressed further into his chest as she blinked. He could tell her eyes hurt and he wasn’t surprised, they were red and swollen she’d been crying that much. He didn’t say anything for a moment, instead they simply lay tangled around one another, his hand reaching up to gently stroke through her hair.
Eventually he had to give into his bladder and with a sigh he pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
“Kitten, sorry but I gotta pee.”
She gave a soft chuckle and sighed, moving away from him. “I suppose that’s okay.” He gave her a soft smile and then untangled himself from around her and sat up, stretching as he moved the covers back to stand, wincing slightly as he did so. His ribs were pretty damned sore. Katie took a deep breath as she saw the extent of the bruising on his side. He bruised fast, part of his accelerated healing process but it still shocked her to see sometimes, especially after a particularly brutal fight. He paused, turning to look at her, and then she noticed the purple hue also surrounding his left temple and eye socket, and the various cuts and marks on his handsome face.
“Give it a day or so and it will be gone.” he said gently, clocking the look on her face, before he headed into the bathroom.
Katie sat up, looking around at the solid oak furniture that she had handpicked for their room when the facility was being built. It felt so long ago, a lifetime ago. As Steve went about his morning routine she pulled a pair of old faded blue jeans from the drawers along with a purple vest top and white Nike hoodie, all items of clothing she forgot she had even owned. She was scraping her shoulder length hair back into a French braid when Steve emerged from the bathroom in his boxer shorts, a sight that would normally turn her into some form of hormonal teenager. But not today. Instead she rose from her position in front of the mirror and headed into the bathroom, taking the soft kiss he offered, but not saying a word.
Once they were dressed and Katie had gently rubbed the arnica into Steve’s bruises they headed out of their quarters. The Compound was still eerily quiet. Given that it was still early, as they headed through the lifeless halls to the conference room, Katie assumed they would be the first ones up, but they’ weren’t. Natasha and Rhodey were sitting at the table, both looking like they hadn’t slept a wink.
"Morning.” Rhodey greeted them as he looked up.
“Morning.” Katie said touching his shoulder briefly. Natasha pushed the plate of various breakfast items across the table towards them and Katie suddenly realised she hadn’t eaten in almost forty-eight hours. To Steve’s relief she dived for a croissant and began to pick at it. It wasn’t much, but at least she was eating.
Steve leaned back in his chair and looked at Natasha
“Have you heard anything from Barton?” he asked softly.
“I tried calling, but nothing.” she shrugged.
“We’ve been trying to figure out how we can get a headcount of all the people that might have disappeared in the Snap.” Rhodey offered “See how far this stretches, which world leaders are still here, what happened to the authorities everything. Then we can figure out who’s left and what we can do from there.
“It stretches across the world, at least.” Nat said, gently as she swiped over the tablet she was holding causing several holograms to appear, with various snippets of footage. “Emergency broadcasts all started coming through in the early hours…”
“As horrible as it is, it needs to be done.” Steve nodded.
"Anything from SHIELD? Fury? Agent Hill?” Katie looked at Natasha.
“I’ve sent out calls and messages, if there’s anyone left they’ll respond.” she replied as she continued to tap at the computer.
“Good.”
“I spoke to Pepper earlier” Rhodey looked at Katie. “She’s on her way up, Happy’s driving her.”
Katie moaned in disbelief that she hadn’t even thought about the woman that she’d loved as a sister for so many years “Pepper.”
“Hey, don’t.” Steve said, gently squeezing her shoulder “We’ve all had a lot to cope with and think about.”
“He’s right Kiddo.” Rhodey nodded “The main thing is she’s alright. “
“Still nothing from Tony?” Katie asked tentatively
Rhodey shook his head. “I think…” he looked at Steve who took a deep breath. “I think we have to assume the worst.”
“No, we have to hope for the best.” she countered, not looking at anyone as she shoved another snippet of croissant into her mouth. It was a hope she was clinging to, because the alternative, even though it was more likely, was unbearable and every time she contemplated it, it was as if someone had tightened that rubber band around her chest even more. She couldn’t cope with losing her brother as well.
Steve looked at Rhodey and gently shook his head, causing the other man to take a deep breath and they all looked up as the other members of the group trickled into the room.
"We’ve been trying to get a signal from my ship” Rocket offered, “So far, nothing.”
"No sign of my people either.” Thor bowed his head.
“I thought that-” Steve began in a confused tone but Thor cut him off.
“When Thanos attacked our ship, half of the people on board escaped so some of them will still be out there. I just need to find them.”
“So what do we do now?” Bruce asked, and all heads turned to Steve, their leader.
“We wait until we find something useful. Then we do what we have to, what we can.” Steve leaned his elbows on the table top. It was all he could suggest.
“You can wait all you want.” Thor shrugged, “But I’m going to find Thanos.”
“Oh yeah?” Rocket rolled his eyes “And then what?”
“I’m going to kill him.” Thor replied simply.
“How?”
“I’ll cut his head off, bring the stones back and we can figure out how to undo this unholy shit stain of a mess that he created.”
“If we’re going to have any hope of going after Thanos and being successful then we need to come up with some form of plan, otherwise we don’t stand a chance.” Steve looked up at Thor.
“I’m done with planning!” Thor growled, and there was a clap of thunder outside making Katie jump. “How can you sit here, waiting for something to happen? We need to be out there, looking for this bastard!”
“And we will.” Steve started to placate him and Thor simply snorted before pointing at him.
“This man killed half my people, murdered my brother and stabbed my best friend through the heart with a sword!”
“We all lost people, Thor.” Steve tried again and Thor snorted.
“I lost everything. No offence, Captain, but what exactly did you lose? Because as far as I can see the person you love the most is still here and-”
He was cut off by Rhodey who jumped in to tell him he was out of order, but as Katie listened to the two of them start to bicker, she glanced at Steve who had his head hung down, looking at the table, biting the inside of his cheek. She reached out to gently touch his arm and he looked back at her, his eyes swimming with tears.
And that was it, her temper snapped.
“Best friends?” Thor was loudly responding to Rhodey “Well pardon me if but I don’t particularly feel-
“We lost our baby, Thor!” Katie yelled, looking up at the God as she cut him off, her voice cracking. “That good enough for you?”
There was a pause and Steve felt the atmosphere in the entire room thicken as he swallowed and looked at his wife. Her eyes were blazing as she was glaring at Thor, whose own eyes had grown wide with surprise and something that looked like remorse. Steve’s hand gently crept to Katie’s back, and he felt hers fall to his knee, her gaze on Thor never moving. “I don’t understand.” Thor continued, looking around.
At that point Katie looked down at the table and licked her lips, steeling herself to respond, but Steve did it for her
“Katie was pregnant.” He said softly, looking up. “But we didn’t know. Not until…” “Oh Jesus.” Rhodey sighed, running his hand over his face “Guys, I…” “I don’t want sympathy.” she said, as Steve’s hand moved to take hers. “We don’t want sympathy, I just thought you should all know.” “I’m sorry.” Thor bowed his head.
“He snapped away our baby.” Katie took a deep breath and looked up at the God “So yeah, Steve lost a lot. We all did. But that aside you’re right, we do need to find him, get those stones and reverse what he did but you can’t do it alone, and we can’t do it without you.” She looked round the table. “If we are going to have any chance of succeeding, we need to be clever as fighting him like we did in Wakanda won’t work.”
Thor looked at her, then his storm blue eyes locked onto Steve’s as he sighed and nodded.
“Okay, Captain, we will do this your way. But I’m still going to cut his head off when we do find him.”
No one dared suggest otherwise.
The rest of the morning was spent in the Control Room. No one spoke much other than to comment on the various provisional numbers that kept coming in from the Countries all over the world. Provisional because no one could confirm anything, until official census reports were completed. And no one was starting official census reports because the governments were in disarray. Basically, the only thing any of them could be sure about, was that the world was in a monumental fucking mess.
At about half past three in the afternoon FRIDAY spoke, making them jump slightly, to announce that Pepper and Happy had arrived. Suddenly Katie’s mouth went dry, it wasn’t just her brother she had walked away from two years ago. She stood up from her seat and made her way down the hallway and met them both halfway towards the conference room. There was a moment where Pepper paused, and Katie took in her appearance. Her hair was pulled back into an immaculate pony-tail, but she was dressed in a pair of jeans, trainers and a simple button down, far from the famous Pepper Pots crisp suits and Manolas everyone associated with her. Katie met her eyes which were red raw and then Pepper stepped forward, opening her arms with a sob. Katie fell into them hugging the woman back.
“I’m so glad you’re ok.” she said gently.
“You too.” Pepper croaked.
“I’ve missed you so much.” Katie’s voice cracked as she pulled away gently, looking at her.
“We missed you, we all did.”
“I’m sorry.” Katie sniffed, bowing her head “I really am, if there had been any other way.” “Don’t.” Pepper urged her “You had your reasons. Tony knew that.”
“Have you heard from him?” Katie asked gently.
Pepper shook her head, “Not since he went up after that ship. You?”
“No, but we have every scanner we can going.” Katie turned to look at Steve, Nat, Rhodey and Bruce who had now gathered behind her. “We’ll find him.” “I hope you’re right.”
“Well whilst we have hope, we have something huh?” Katie said, wiping at her eyes before she turned to Happy, releasing Pepper who was instantly swept up into an embrace by Steve.
“Hey Kiddo.” Happy smiled sadly, pulling her into a huge hug, his large arms circling around her back. “It’s good to see you.”
Katie couldn’t find any words to respond.
Eventually everyone finished their greetings and they all made their way back into the main office where they had been sat, watching the reports.
“There’s a Racoon.” Happy eyed Rocket as he walked passed.
“Yeah, his name’s Rocket.” Katie replied. “It’s a long story.”
“Not like we got anything else to do.” Pepper sat down and looked expectantly round the table. “Tell me everything.” So they did. The entire tale, start to finish. It took a good hour and a half to explain and answer all her questions, everyone chipping in when and where they could and she gripped Katie’s hand, fresh tears springing in her eyes when she learned about the baby. Rhodey stepped out at one point to take a call, returning about twenty minutes later with an unreadable expression on his face, one which caught Steve’s attention but the man simply shook his head and Steve turned back to the conversation.
“The one thing we do know is that Tony wasn’t alone.” Bruce concluded the tale “He was with Peter Parker and this Dr Strange guy. We’re running scans, but we’re limited to what the StarkSats can pick up.”
“Yeah well I might be able to offer a bit more.” Rhodey spoke “The call I got before, it was Ross. The President is asking for a debrief. They need something to tell the public. Said I’d go but I could do with back up.”
Steve was about to offer to accompany him but Katie beat him to it.
“I’ll do it. That is unless anyone else particularly wants to?”
Steve took a deep breath and looked at her, grappling with the fact he was pleased she wasn’t holing herself up, hiding away like she could have been, but on the flip side, he wasn’t sure if she was up to it both physically and mentally.
“Are you sure you’re alright to do this?” He asked her. “You should be resting and-“ “Don’t.” she looked at him, silently pleading with him. She needed to do something, anything to stay busy.
“Alright.” He acquiesced eventually, knowing her well enough to understand if he pushed it any further it wouldn’t end well. “If you’re sure?”
She nodded. “Always a pleasure to see Ross.” she looked up at Rhodey who nodded.
“I’ll tell them we’ll be there tomorrow morning.”
******
“So as I was saying,” Ross looked down the table, “the US Government is attempting to start a census to compile a list of the Vanished. We need to understand just what we’re looking at.”
“What we’re looking at is simple.” Katie folded her arms. “Thanos had one goal. To wipe out fifty percent of everything across the Universe.”
“What do we know about this Thanos?” President Ellis asked and Katie took a deep breath before she looked at Rhodey. They were half an hour or so into the debrief and questioning and she was already starting to get a headache.
“He’s a Titan.” Katie recalled what she knew from Rocket and Bruce “He has been systematically working his way from planet to planet, wiping out fifty percent at random because he believes that the Universe’s population would essentially consume all resources and condemn it.”
“From what we know he started to look for Infinity Stones to help him complete his mission.” Rhodey said. “Once he had all 6, he was able to do it with a simple snap of his fingers.”
“Was this guy not on SHIELDs radar? Or the Avengers radar?” A man to the right of President Ellis asked.
“The Avengers haven’t existed for the past two years.” Katie looked at him, before she glanced at Ross. “Your Accords put paid to that.”
“Those Accords were ratified by over a hundred different countries.” Ross looked at her “I couldn’t just overrule or ignore the fact you broke the law.”
Katie snorted and looked around the room, pointing at Ross as she turned back to him.
“Seriously, half the population of the world crumbles to dust and you survive?”
“Kiddo.” Rhodey cut her off and lay his hand on her arm, she ignored him and carried on.
“We broke the law trying to keep you safe!” She shook her head. “Those other soldiers in Siberia, if they had been alive then the entire world could have fallen. We knew what the consequences would be, but stopping that threat was far more important. And what did we get for it?” She glared at Ross, her temper rising. “You locked half of us in a jail. Put an eighteen year old girl in a straight jacket and a collar that stripped her of her power and her dignity. Do you know she suffered nightmares for months after we got her out? Months!” Ross at least had the grace to look a little abashed.
“And you wanna know the worst part? During those years on the run we still did the dirty jobs SHIELD didn’t want to do. We bust illegal arms traders, took down drugs cartels, all to keep the very people that exiled us safe.”
“I appreciate there has been a lot of water under the bridge and you may feel aggrieved but what matters now is how we go forward.” Ross looked at her. “We lost, the world lost…”  “You’re not getting this are you?” Katie snapped. “We lost because we weren’t together. And we weren’t together because of you!”
“Mrs Rogers,” President Ellis was calm as he looked at her, “I understand emotions and tempers will be running a little frayed. Your team has suffered. You, your husband and friends were criminalised and I realise now that we were wrong to do so.”
The President considered something for a moment before he leaned toward Ross to speak. Ross took a deep breath and looked around before he nodded and the President spoke again “I’m going to pull the US out of the Sokovia Accords. You’ll all be pardoned immediately, all charges dropped.”
“Thank you, Sir.” Rhodey said, and at the same time Katie asked
“What about Bucky?”
“What?” President Ellis looked at her.
“Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes.”
“The Winter Soldier?” Ross frowned.
“That’s not his name.” Katie said fiercely “And that’s not who he is, who he was.” She corrected herself “Not anymore.” “After Siberia, Captain Rogers took Barnes to Wakanda.” Rhodey supplied at the puzzled glances from around the table. “He underwent treatment to remove the HYDRA programming from his brain, which was successful. He was on the battle field with us.”
“He went in the snap along with Sam and Wanda and he deserves to be honoured alongside them with a full unequivocal pardon.” Katie looked at Ross, holding his gaze. “He saved my life a few years ago when he pulled me out of that shit hole in Canada, he didn’t bomb the UN and he’s no more responsible for the atrocities HYDRA forced him to commit than you or I.”
President Ellis nodded. “Consider it done. We’ll also give you access to the equipment we have, people, anything we can at NASA to help you find your brother…”
“Thank you, Sir.”  She nodded to him.
“And we don’t know if it will help in any way but Fury’s SUV was found in DC along with some belongings. In the absence of anyone else to look through it, we thought…” The President trailed off and Katie looked down at the table. She’d been hoping that Fury was going to pop up soon, help them formulate some kind of plan with a trick up his sleeve like he normally did. But instead, here they were, getting the confirmation that he was gone too.
“We’ll take a look.” Rhodey nodded.
“We can have it delivered to the compound or you can take a look at it in situ.” Ross stated and Katie looked at Rhodey, the pair of them instantly agreeing which option would be best.
“Compound would be better.” Katie stated.
“Ok, we’ll make it happen right away.” President Ellis nodded. “This afternoon we’ll issue a full statement to the world, tell them what we know. Then I guess we need to try and regroup what is left of our Armed Forces, get some kind of census going.” He stood up, signalling the meeting was over and Rhodey and Katie did the same.
“The Avengers were Fury’s greatest achievement.” Ellis spoke. “He had faith in you. Absolute faith. Right now, I’m hoping that faith is justified as frankly, I don’t have a clue where any of us go from here.” “No one does Sir.” Katie shrugged, holding his gaze before she gave him a nod. And then, as she made to leave the room, Ross spoke from where he was stood, not far behind her.
“Give Captain Rogers my regards.”
She stiffened instantly and stopped dead, taking a deep breath and besides her, Rhodey let out a soft groan, knowing full well what was coming. In a flash she spun round and her fist connected straight with the man’s face in a perfectly executed right hook.
Ross reeled back, crimson billowing from his nose, and in the corner of her eye, she saw President Ellis hold a hand up to stop the guards that had stepped forward, and she was sure he was smirking a little. She turned her attention to Ross who was wiping at his face, looking at her in shock.
“I’ll be sure to pass on your greeting, Mr Secretary.” Katie arched an eyebrow, before she wheeled round and left.
*******
Steve choked on his coffee, spitting half of it down his shirt as he looked at Rhodey, his eyes wide. “She did what?” “Punched him, straight in the face. Great right hook.” Rhodey chuckled as Steve let out a groan as he wiped at the liquid that had spilt onto his Henley. “Oh he was asking for it, Cap, telling her to pass on his regards to you, sarcastic asshole. Next thing I know she’s whacked him and he’s blowing scarlet all over the place.”
Steve scratched at his beard, shaking his head.
“And then she just smiles at him and says…” “I’ll be sure to pass on your greeting, Mr Secretary.”  Katie finished Rhodey’s sentence for him as she strolled into the kitchen and went straight to the fridge for a coke. “Thought my ears were burning.”
“You punched Ross in the face?” Steve looked at her.
Katie shrugged “He deserved it.”
Steve watched her as she took a long drink of the soda, a smile twitching his lips. God, he loved her fucking sass-bag nature. “So what is President Ellis planning to do?” He asked, clearing his throat.
“They’re putting out a statement later.” Rhodey said, “Emergency broadcast, not sure when but we’ll keep the news channels tuned.”
“When’s Fury’s stuff supposed to be arriving?” the Captain looked at his wife.
“Not sure, they just said as soon as possible.”
***** As soon as possible turned out to be three pm that afternoon. After a quick search, the only vaguely interesting thing they found was some form of pager that had been found at the rear of the car. According to the Government Agent that handed it over, they weren’t even sure if it was Fury’s but they had gathered it up anyway.
Katie and Natasha had never seen anyone in SHIELD use a device like that before, neither had Steve, so in an attempt to try and find out exactly whether or not it was Fury’s, Natasha hacked into the CCTV footage of the area in which it had been found. As they watched, Nat fast forwarded through to the point of the snap and they watched it unfold. The pager was the last thing Fury went for.
“Fury wasn’t the kind of guy to waste time.” Steve spoke, breaking the silence that had fallen across the room. “And I doubt he would be making an exception to that rule in this situation.”
“So why was that thing so important?” Rhodey asked, looking at it. “Who was he trying to reach if it wasn’t us?”
“No idea.” Natasha sighed, “But we should find out.”
“It’s dead.” Katie pushed a few buttons on the pager. “Battery probably died.” “I can try and wire it into the mains.” Bruce took it from her, turning it over in his hands. “It might not work but…” Katie watched, half listening as Rocket hopped up onto the table and asked Bruce to see the item for a moment. He frowned, holding it up to the light.
“This is a Kree Booster.”
“A what?” Bruce looked at him.
“Kree, they’re another race and this is a piece of their technology on the back. It uses all available communications links- satellites, phones, ships, relays and normally makes the reach of the signal impossible to miss.”
“So he was contacting someone on another planet?” Steve frowned.
Rocket shrugged “Maybe.”
“Well whoever it was he was turning to them for help.” Katie nodded, “Lets fire it up and see.” Bruce took the pager with him, Rocket following just in case he might be able to help. Steve watched them leave, hoping that the pager would lead to something
. They could do with a win, however small.
******
President Ellis’ address was broadcast at little after six pm. The group settled in the communal lounge to watch what he had to say.
“3 days ago the world suffered an attack. Firstly there was the ship over New York which Tony Stark was taken by, and a little over sixteen hours later, the world suffered a catastrophic event whereby people watched friends, family and love ones vanish in front of their eyes.
This attack came at the hands of a being called Thanos. Someone who believed he had the right to destroy half of life throughout the Universe with a snap of his fingers. Most of us didn’t see it coming. But a small band of heroes did. The Avengers, including those who were outlawed two years ago by the Sokovian Accords. They, plus others and countless Wakandan Soldiers fought to the bitter end to try and prevent this event. But they couldn’t, and what’s evident now is that no one could.
The Avengers Wanda Maximoff and Sam Wilson along with the Wakandan King T’Challa were just three of those heroes who met the same fate as half of the rest of the world along with Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes. He stood alongside the rest of the Avengers fighting to keep the world safe, a world which for many years had shown him nothing but cruelty and pain.”
At that Steve glanced down at his hands and he felt Katie slide her arm round his shoulders where she sat next to him on the couch, gently laying her head against his. He knew she would have had a hand in that particular point and he slid his arm around her back, pulling her closer.
“Tony Stark remains missing along, whilst the remaining Avengers are back where they belong, on US soil and are currently following any leads they can. In light of recent events, I would like to hereby issue them all formal pardons and furthermore, the US has officially withdrawn from the Sokovia Accords with immediate effect. For now, I ask for your cooperation and patience as we begin the necessary steps to rebuild going forward.” As they watched the President took a deep breath before he continued, his voice wobbling slightly.
“I am sorry that I cannot give you more answers, I cannot tell you why some people lost no one and some people lost everyone. But what I can tell you, and anyone else who is listening is that Earth IS strong. We will NOT be defeated, and we WILL rise from the ashes.”
At that cameras started to click and flash and the inevitable chatter started up from the journalists that had assembled. The President wasn’t taking any questions though, and made a swift exit.
No one in the room said anything. There wasn’t much to say. Suddenly Steve found it all too stifling so he stood up, excusing himself and headed out for some air, dropping a kiss to Katie’s head before he left. Heading out of the doors at the back of the compound he walked the well traced path to the jetty by the river which curved the edges of the grounds and sat down with a sigh on the bench.
He was totally out of ideas. The entire team was looking to him to lead and he had nothing. He was drained, he’d hardly slept, too worried about Katie who had tossed and turned all night again last night, waking with a full blown nightmare which had taken him a good half a minute to rouse her from and she had still managed to go to the White House and sit through hours of questionings and debriefs. And he knew the dreams could come again, and that made him feel even more helpless, because he didn’t know what to do. Nothing he could say would make her feel any better about what had happened, hell, he couldn’t make himself feel any better.
Sniffing slightly he wiped at his nose and glanced out at the sun which was just retreating behind the trees that lined the other bank of the river, when he heard familiar footsteps behind him.
“I forgot how beautiful it could be here.” Katie sighed as she sat beside him, looking out over the water as the deep purples and yellows of the sky bounced off the surface of the Hudson.
“Yeah, yeah it is.” Steve shifted slightly so he could drop his arm round her shoulders.
“Steve,” Katie let out a slight sniffle, and Steve swallowed, pulling her into him even tighter. “I know, Baby.” He took a deep breath, laying his head against hers, as her tears began to fall “I know.”
