Chapter III of The Paths to Atonement, now posted on ao3!
This chapter contains lots of swearing and grief/discussion of a canon character death. There's also... gasp! A new character's pov??? :o
Here's an excerpt:
Dumbledore had given him an out, and he considered it, he really did. But he was hesitant to accept an offer from a man he didn’t trust, a man that needed to die in order for his family to remain safe. It didn’t matter though, because before he could make the call, reinforcements came. Yay.
The impossible was done and Draco and his family were safe. And they were back in the Dark Lord’s top ranks, save for a few passive aggressive comments shot towards his father.
And so when Potter’s “death” was announced Draco expected to feel happy, successful. And he did to an extent. He was safe. His parents were safe. But his friend since childhood had just died and there were bodies everywhere and there was so much blood and the Dark Lord who’d made the past two years hell was standing there, smiling. While Draco was still covered in ash from the Fiendfrye and Crabbe’s scorched corpse was probably still burning.
Stop thinking about it.

fun fact! willem dafoe's "he's gay, he... he has a special connection to classical music, there's many things that are interesting about him..." is actually in reference to francis abernathy.

Introducing The Paths to Atonement
My newest fic, The Paths to Atonement, is now being released on AO3! The first TWO chapters are up now. Plan on weekly updates :D Summary: Hermione wakes up to find herself in what she concludes is a magically-enhanced labyrinth, the last thing she remembers being fragments from the Battle of Hogwarts. As she makes her way through the maze, she finds herself facing Death Eaters, dangerous and lethal magical beasts, and even worse, a few choice Slytherins.
Together, the inhabitants of the maze must learn to work together to survive, all while piecing together the final steps to defeating the Dark Lord once and for all. *:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧ This is a Golden Trio Era fic, where things are mostly canon up until the point to where Harry is revealed to be alive, give or take a few small adjustments that will be revealed in the fic itself. In terms of characters, you'll be pleased to know it's got a big ol' ensemble cast featuring Blaise Zabini, Theo Nott, Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, and more.
While there is an eventual dramoine endgame (I know it's not everyone's cup of tea... it's not mine either unless it's written well and I think I did a good job at giving it a go), this fic is much more plot-focused than romance-focused. Really it's more enemies to friends heavy with some open ended "ooh" moments... can't say too much but you'll see. Despite this, there are some other minor ships featured throughout, i.e., Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley, Ron Weasley/Lavender Brown (revive my girl, she deserved better), and some more but I won't spoil too much. There will be no explicit content in this fic. My focus on this fic is to really try to dive into these characters (it'll have multiple POVs), how they interact with each other and the violence around them, and trying to write redemption arcs that The-Author-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named was too cowardly to do. There's some action, some humor, some angst, and lots of forced collaboration between the Gryffindors and Slytherins. Anyways, check it out if that sounds interesting to you! If not, no worries haha.

being a marauders fan can be so draining because why am i doing homework? like the required reading is a bunch of 500k+ word fanfics, but i got extra credit bc i read the 7-book source material and also this week i have an excel sheet due of all the different fancasts for the characters which speaking of i hope you memorized all those family trees because we have a quiz next tuesday- oh where does pandora go? idk fill in an answer. thankfully my wip isn't due until the end of the semester but i need to research and memorize these spells like I'M A WIZARD and then cite my sources when people say i got them wrong. anyways, i gtg study bye.

the best versions of Hogwarts Boys/Slytherin Boys react are when they are so chaotic but so accurate. some of my favorites: - "things the slytherin boys do while dating you 🫶 1. cheat" - fred responding to "we need to talk" with "nuh uh" - harry not responding because he's "in a cave". why? "idk dumbledore brought me here"

^^^^^ THIS THIS THIS (and yes to Lily/Harry & James/Ginny!!!!)
The Sorting Hat // Peter Pettigrew & Neville Longbottom Being Foils *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Recently, I saw someone say they don't understand why Peter is a Gryffindor... and this made me want to talk about how the Sorting Hat possibly works. Harry tells Albus that the Sorting Hat takes "your choice into account", but I think the best descriptor is that the Sorting Hat takes what you value into account. For example, some people think Hermione should've been a Ravenclaw because she's intelligent and quick-thinking. But here's the thing- I think it'd be fair to say Hermione valued bravery over intelligence. She's passionate and outspoken with her beliefs and was determined to remain strong in the face of her adversaries. We see this in First Year and she only grows into these traits as she faces difficult situations. At her core, Hermione values traits like courage and determination, and happens to have a passion for learning and pursuing knowledge. And here's how Peter Pettigrew and Neville Longbottom play into this. Both were sorted into Gryffindor despite not really having been described as brave when they were 11 years old. However, I think it'd be fair to say that both valued bravery. We see Neville step out of his comfort zone and as the series continues, he grows more confident and (you guessed it) brave. He goes from being a nervous, shy 11 year old to being a leader in Dumbledore's Army while Hogwarts is under Death Eater reign. Peter, I imagine, had a similar start to his years at Hogwarts. He has these friends who are just so cool and do whatever they want and he loves that. He admires the courage they have to be able to do that. But, where he differs from the other Gryffindor students is that he never achieves that bravery himself. He remains a coward. He can't find it in himself to be brave and instead does what he thinks will keep him safe. That's what makes him a bit tragic, in my opinion. He never becomes what he values.
Just my thoughts on the matter, but I wanted to share because I like talking about this kind of stuff. I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts or ideas :D i wrote this at like 1 am so sorry if it doesnt make much sense lmao
