Soap who, before joining the 141, got captured and experimented on to be given this ability. And now the world is always too loud.

Ghost, either through trauma, or (my personal opinion) didn't like the idea of people reading his thoughts so he came up with a system to clear his mind, like pouring steaming over a wooden box, or a gallon on white paint into an overflowing bucket of white paint, so it just covers everything.

Soap who, when he meets Ghost, hears absolutely nothing from him. And he starts to hang around the man more and more, to seek refuge in his mind from the noise of everything else

Alternatively

Imagine Ghost who has very extreme intrusive thoughts like all the time, and that both scares and intrigues Soap.

Like the first time they met Ghost's mind flashed to an image of him stanning soap up the gut and shooting him in the head, but it was gone just a fast as it came.

Or sometimes he imagines going awol, betraying Price, and running away to some unknown country in the middle east

Or he sees Gaz out of the corner of his eye and his brain tells him 'what if you just broke his face, and dislocated his arm' then he has the shake the thought away with an annoyed mental huff

Soap's never met anyone with such violent intrusive thoughts, and sure it's off putting, but it's just as fascinating. With the way Ghost looks at him and accidentally imagines smashing his head in, he's 100% sure he knows soap knows. But oddly enough they never talk about it.

The plus side to this is, Ghost has never worked with anyone better than soap. Everyone else either doesn't have the ability to read Ghost like soap does, or they're too afraid of Ghost's thoughts to work with him. Soap on the otherhand doesn't seem to have that problem for some reason.

to keep up appearances, bruce asked the batkids to find reasons to excuse their various bumps and bruises:

dick was easy. gymnastics and acrobatics run deep within his veins and it’s always his “party trick”, so they just let the public come up with an answer themselves.

jason, mysterious as he is, never addressed his bumps and bruises. the public have settled on underground cage fighting.

tim’s was skateboarding and being “himself”. tim knows how he appears to the public, and as much as it pains his ego for people to see him in such a way, clumsiness fit his charming, dorky, public persona.

damian needs no excuse as he is a ‘rambunctious little ankle biter’, so bruce just lets damian straight up tell people shit like “i was engaged in battle with a duel wielding madman” and then says “kids and their wild imaginations, amiright?”.

steph insisted on fencing even though bruce argued that she would not realistically get many black eyes from fencing. she just tells people she’s very bad at it.

cass’ are from ballet duets.

duke just says “there was a spider” with no further context.

harper’s go to line is “you should see the other guy”.

and bruce is basically barbie so he comes up with a new sport each time he’s asked. and people believe it every goddamn time without question; because what else would a billionaire do with their time other than unicycle hockey and chess boxing?

This is totally wild but I just wrote a poem about this? I really agree with you and as a fanfic writer, who is admittedly new to the practice, I always feel very sad and discouraged people are so adamantly against unfinished works. I think there is a beauty to the unfinished narrative that echoes the unfinished narratives of our own lives. What is a fanfic but disregarding/changing the ending of an already known story, right? Anyway this is a poem I wrote about it,

A love letter to the unfinished

I read a story today, chapter, by chapter.

I watched two lovers drawn together by destiny. I walked along beside them. They learned the beautiful terror of vulnerability. My watchful eyes kept vigil in their darkest moments, my heart sung under the weight of their joy. I ached for the confession lurking just out of reach. It did not come.

I read a story yesterday, sentence, by sentence.

I watched a son uncover the mysteries of his father’s disappearance. When he left to search, I stood beside him. He cried at the skeleton in his closet, behind him, I wept. I waited for him, with baited breath, to understand the strings he had connected. He never did.

I will read a story tomorrow, word, by word.

It will not be finished, that is okay. I will walk along beside it. It’s worth to me is more than the sum of its words. It will not give me an ending, it will

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but more people should read incomplete/unfinished/in-progress fanfics.

I've noticed this huge trend where creators on tiktok and tumblr who will be explaining how to use Archive Of Our Own to new users and they always say "and make sure to scroll down and click completed only" or how people will go out of their way to mention they only read completed fics 'because they were traumatized when they forgot to check the dates and didn't realize this fic hadn't been updated since 2012'.

The thing is - I think by not engaging with and/or actively avoiding writer's WIPs readers are potentially adding to the aggregate of abandoned works. Now this obviously isn't the case for all abandoned fics, anything from major life events, to loss of interest, to getting busy can be a reason for a fic getting abandoned - but at least on some level I just know that writers are quitting while they're ahead when they aren't garnering any response or feedback because reading WIPs has become unpopular. If you're worried about reading something that hasn't been updated since 2012 then you can use the date updated function to sort out old fics.

Anyways, support your favorite fanfic writers by engaging with their WIPs.

This is literally so cute!!!! There are so many ways this could go and they would all be good reads I think.

A) due to Harley’s history with psychology she is able to be a stable trustworthy adult in Dash’s life that can guide him into developing healthy coping mechanisms. Maybe allowing Dash to have formed a connection with a certain blue eyed ghoul and his gaggle of misfits?

B) Dash is sent to live with Harley during her brief abusive relationship with the Joker at which point he either develops bullying as a coping mechanism or is scared away from and guided out of the habit by Harley’s guidance and view from a victim’s perspective.

C) When Dash is young he has a few ticks/traits that are similar to Harley’s resulting in his parents developing a fear he will also become insane/a criminal. This fear could be what ultimately leads to Dash’s bullying problem via his parents subconsciously forcing him to act out based on their own predispositions of him.

D) an angsty-er take, Harley was a large part of Dash’s life before dating the Joker but due to the nature of their relationship was cut off from communicating with her family. When she eventually has the chance to reach out again she discovers that her nephew has developed horrible coping mechanisms (like Harley’s or Joker’s is up to you) and is mortified. Could continue this idea to be either Dash falls down the rabbit hole and becomes a Gotham rogue/dead in a ditch somewhere in Gotham or Harley strengthens her tenuous relationship with Dash and is able to get to the root cause of his issues (maybe she can help remove him from a disfunctional *cough* abusive *cough* household) and help him grow into a better individual.
