lead acid cells
In the year 1801, a French physicist named Nicolas Gautherot discovered that even though the main battery is disconnected, there is a small volume of current in electrolysis research. In 1859, a physicist named Gatson invented the lead acid battery, which was the first to be recharged by the passage of reverse current. This was the first prototype of this kind of battery, to which Faure added more improvements until Henri Tudor invented the practical type of lead acid battery in 1886. Let us delve deeper into this kind of battery, its operation, types, structure, and advantages.
The rechargeable and secondary batteries category includes lead acid batteries. Despite the battery's low energy-to-volume and energy-to-weight ratios, it can deliver higher surge currents. This refers to the fact that lead acid cells have a high power-to-weight ratio.
These are the batteries that transform chemical energy into electrical energy by using lead peroxide and sponge lead. Because of the elevated cell voltage levels and low cost, these are commonly used in substations and power systems.

Computer model fosters potential improvements to 'bionic eye' technology
Computer model fosters potential improvements to ‘bionic eye’ technology
There are millions of people who face the loss of their eyesight from degenerative eye diseases. The genetic disorder retinitis pigmentosa alone affects 1 in 4,000 people worldwide. Today, there is technology available to offer partial eyesight to people with that syndrome. The Argus II, the world’s first retinal prosthesis, reproduces some functions of a part of the eye essential to vision, to…

No batteries? No sweat! Wearable biofuel cells now produce electricity from lactate
No batteries? No sweat! Wearable biofuel cells now produce electricity from lactate
It cannot be denied that, over the past few decades, the miniaturization of electronic devices has taken huge strides. Today, after pocket-size smartphones that could put old desktop computers to shame and a plethora of options for wireless connectivity, there is a particular type of device whose development has been steadily advancing: wearable biosensors. These tiny devices are generally meant…

Researchers reveal aging signatures across diverse tissue cells in mice
Researchers reveal aging signatures across diverse tissue cells in mice
Researchers have identified molecular signatures of the aging process in mice, publishing their results today in the open-access eLife journal. Their analyses provide one of the most comprehensive characterisations of the molecular signatures of aging across diverse types of cells from different tissues in a mammal, and will aid future studies on aging and related topics. Aging leads to the…

Study documented the interaction between the coronavirus and a cell
Study documented the interaction between the coronavirus and a cell
A new study could help strengthen the coronavirus’s knowledge, thanks to scientists, who offered a multidimensional view of the coronavirus. Scientists from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry have documented the interaction between the coronavirus and a cell at five distinct proteomics levels. This comprehensive picture of the viral infection…

Pain receptors linked to the generation of energy-burning brown fat cells
Pain receptors linked to the generation of energy-burning brown fat cells
BOSTON – (April 12, 2021) – A new source of energy expending brown fat cells has been uncovered by researchers at the Joslin Diabetes Center, which they say points towards potential new therapeutic options for obesity. According to the new report, published today by Nature Metabolism, the key lies in the expression of a receptor called Trpv1 (temperature-sensitive ion channel transient receptor…

Gut bacteria ‘talk’ to horse’s cells to improve their athletic performance
Gut bacteria ‘talk’ to horse’s cells to improve their athletic performance
A horse’s gut microbiome communicates with its host by sending chemical signals to its cells, which has the effect of helping the horse to extend its energy output, finds a new study published in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences. This exciting discovery paves the way for dietary supplements that could enhance equine athletic performance. “We are one of the first to demonstrate that certain…
