6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Usually, I don't do sad endings, but the most bitter-sweet one is Pebble (Dragon Age: Inquisition) about a kossith who cuts his massive horns off to look more like a human so he could follow his lover to the city where kossith race isn't welcome :c Although I don't think his lover would let him go there anyway......

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Haha every other one :D But Sun, Rum and Gunpowder (AC Black Flag) has the happiest and the most carefree vibes whatsoever!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not on the fics, but the ships! I just delete those because why is it an author's problem suddenly that some people don't know how filters work??

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Oh, I sure do ;> It's not extremely explicit (no holes in sight, but dicks and balls can be spotted) and is mostly focused on emotions and dialogues.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Nope, but I write AUs sometimes to spice things up! Modern days AUs are the bane of my existence, and still... somehow... I keep making them...

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, but I noticed my lines and phrases in the stories of fellow writers. I appreciate it!!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yeah!! Out of all possible fics, it was The Remnants of a Ruined Past, a Mad Max (the game!) story translated into Polish. Love it lots!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

Never as i am incapable to work in groups haha. I did some challenges though, such as picking a theme and writing something small with a fren to compare the results later. It's very fun and helps to keep your brain gears spinning!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Like, the one and only ship that I could bring along if I was stuck on a desert island? Or the one I don't even write for anymore but carry in my heart daily? The former would be Hawke x Varric (Dragon Age 2) because they're a comfort ship with many possibilities for plots. The latter is Ezio x Leonardo (AC II + Brotherhood + Revelations) and Arthur x Eames (Inception) because they started it all hehe.

15. What’s a fic you’d like to finish but don’t think you ever will?

It's a compilation of drabbles written for a very niche CGI Resident Evil movie (Damnation) & very rare pair that i was planning to continue for as long as the planet keeps spinning, but got overwhelmed with the amount of ideas I had in mind :c

16. What are your writing strengths?

Humor and dialogues!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Everything el– 🥲 Deep character studies, believable politics and fights.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

A big yes from me, it ads depth and character when used correctly. Also, it's very interesting to keep an evening reading about the language you're planning to use, even it's for a few simple words.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

It was an attempt to mimic Marie Corelli and write a ficlet for her novel "The Sorrows of Satan". And then Assassin's Creed took my soul and I've never seen it since! Kinda ironic, huh...

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I'm gonna cheat bc I'm quite proud about Beautiful Decline, a series of four fics written for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It's an enormous project that was never meant to break out from its confinements and produce three more stories lmao.

POPPER - JANUARY

This month has been full steam ahead for Popper! Where we are currently:

Popper will be the title for the film! If it ain't broke...

Socials have been made, headshots taken, and ready to start crowdfunding asap.

Script in on draft 3, close to being locked in!

Dates almost secured for shooting.

Casting has had callbacks--ready for confirming soon.

We have a cinematographer! Jacob Gandy, who has a wonderful website filled with their work, I am very excited to work with them.

Writing

Drafting Popper has been a challenge, as the story really is developing and unfolding as I draft, which I'm not that used to--previously I've been very sure of a story as I write. My meetings with Kate have been incredibly helpful; her insights and ideas have really pushed the project in the right direction, and helped me properly explore the themes I wanted to but struggled to find.

Current Important Themes in Popper:

Mother/Daughter Relationship

Isolation

Misogyny

I have never written a surrealist script, so I have been reading scripts and exploring surrealist art to inform myself. I had been writing my dissertation about surrealism and the Czech New Wave, so sometimes research doubled over which was handy. Films like Alice (1988), Daisies (1966), Cat in the Hat (2003), have helped me visualise my project, which I feel I'm doing far too much of -- visualising. I have found myself drifting my focus from the story when I spend too long imagining the film.

I also reread some of Barbara Creed's 'The Monstrous Feminine', and tried applying it to Popper. I have a mother character in the script, Audre's Mother, and I'd like to incorporate one of Creed's archetypes of women in film, the Monstrous Mother. Also the idea of the castration is relevant in Popper-- as Audre is a non-conforming female character, and therefore a threat to the male doctors at the clinic she visits. Audre is a real threat to the men in Popper, though she doesn't feel like it, as they force her back into the conforming corner, she did have power and individuality. If her Mother had supported her daughter, then the two 'monstrous' women would be a powerful force against the misogynistic men.

Additionally, I am trying to find visual metaphors to include. I want to explore thee idea that women becomes nothing but a vessel for life once they are pregnant. I want Audre to feel so unseen by the characters around her, pushing her isolation and the surrealist elements to the short. I just need the right way to do this.

Casting

Niamh (the producer for Popper) and I put together documents for casting, collecting scenes for specific characters as well as writers notes on the characters. Niamh put this on Facebook and we had lots of people interested! We had over 20+ interests in Audre, a few for Mother, Doctor and Johnny. We asked for self tapes, and those we got we filtered through and had actors for callbacks. We also had our actors from the test shoot re-audition.

Callbacks were in person, and were very daunting for me, as it felt very professional, thanks to Niamh! I hadn't held such intense auditions before, it felt kind of awkward to sit before actors, who am I to turn people down? Alas, I am the director, so I am that person. We saw some great people, and I honestly feel spoilt for choice right now, which Niamh keeps reminding me is a great position to be in. We hope to confirm cast this week, as well as dates too.

Okay so I listened to The Creed of the Kromon. Um. That was definitely an audio that existed. There were some good things, but they're outweighed by a general sense that the story doesn't know what it's doing, and a lot of mischaracterization, mainly on Charley's part. If you want to see C'rizz then listen to Part 1 and maybe Part 2, everything after is not handled well.

Good things first: I do like the situational irony that this supposedly chaotic universe actually just runs on its own rules. It makes sense that the Time Lords would think of anything different from their own world as wrong, and it also aligns with what we learn in Scherzo, that there are intelligent entities out there running experiments that are also cruel enough to run them like that. The scene where the Doctor's laughing at his interrogators is fairly fun, although it's like 1.5 minutes that really don't justify listening to the rest. Some parts of the soundtrack were pretty nice? And I'm not super attached to C'rizz yet, but he seems interesting and I do want to see where he goes next. The Kro'ka seems like a fun antagonist as well.

Unfortunately, the rest of it is just... not good. I think the main problem is how Charley was written. They did her so bad. She's portrayed as either helpless or reckless, with little say in her actual fate, and she's constantly crying out for help from the Doctor or C'rizz in a way that really doesn't align with her previous behaviour. Is this "the bravest person in the room" Charley? "Take my hand anyway" Charley, who is just as strong as the Doctor, albeit in different ways? Edwardian Adventuress Charlotte Pollard? Sure, she needs help, she gets scared and desperate, but not at every single moment something vaguely challenging happens. That's not consistent with her behaviour. Scherzo literally just happened. And she doesn't even remember what happens to her at the end. It's like the writers realized that they didn't have much of a story to tell and nothing they did here had any impact on character development, so they decided to erase the story from the overarching plot as much as they could. (Also, despite what should be fairly high personal stakes at any given point, the plot still somehow manages to feel boring.)

I feel like the general disgustingness and clumsiness of everything in Parts 3 and 4 is fairly self-evident, so not much comment there. I was listening to this audio while doing something else, so at least I wasn't focusing on those parts as much.

Despite being a story about a Zone running on bureaucracy, there are a lot of little gaps in internal consistency - Charley introduces herself as Charlotte but the Kromon alternate between calling her Charlotte and Charley; the Kromon all have some kind of shared spirit influencing them but they're also all controlled by the queens, which themselves are controlled by that spirit which can't even do anything to stop their destruction; most notably, the Kromon don't know what time is, but C'rizz frequently asks about the length of duration, even referring to "minutes" and "hours." I know that when the Time Lords referred to "a universe without time" they meant that there was no structure that could manipulate and shape time, so subjectively time would still pass, but only in a linear and consistent way. But the Kromon clearly still have a sense of before and after that aligns with the passage of time, so why don't they have anything to describe it?

It just doesn't feel like there was a purpose to this story. Ironically, it felt scattered; the plot made sense, but only if you just accept everything and don't think about the weird characterization. I think this is the first audio that I kind of regret listening to.

The MCU still has a villain problem.

Are any of these villains going to come back stronger than ever, challenging the heroes into a bigger evolution of their character? No.

Either they’re never gonna come back ever or if they do they’re going to be somewhat antiheroes. Every rendition of a superhero franchise in Hollywood does not know how to write long-term villain characters.

Let’s look at dr. doom in the comics. Why do people like him? is it just because he’s a cool villain or a villain with misunderstood motives? That’s the surface level reason. It’s because every time he comes back and featured in a big way in the comics, The scheme or plot that he’s devising can very well be accomplished. Basically there’s a possibility that he’s going to win. No matter whether or not you agree with him, The fantastic four or whoever in the Marvel universe has a lot on their hands. He’s a villain that started out from ” I want to control the world“ to “I want to control the universe”.

He’s a villain that evolves that forces the hero to evolve. That’s good writing. Hollywood writers don’t know how to do that. Either they’ll kill them off after the first movie and will never see them again or we’ll never hear from them ever again unless some other writer decides to pick up where they left off. Turning them soft, into a somewhat misunderstood character. Look at what they did to the Abomination in she hulk. I mean look at Agatha, she’s coming back as an antihero in her own series. And Namor, most likely he’s gonna come back as a hero in the next installment of something. For example there’s going to be some type of next level avenger threat that’s going to happen. The heroes are going to need some extra help. Shuri it’s going to be like, I know a guy who could help us and then we’re going to have the Talocan people in the background fighting kang forces during the last epic fight scene.

Hollywood does not know how to write pure straight up villains. I mean look at Lucifer. They tried to make the fucking devil into an antihero.

I’m not saying the MCU villains are lame. They had their purpose and they were portrayed excellently by the actors. I’m just saying that we live in a world where we’re never going to get another Chris Evans Captain America movie where he fights the red skull again. Or Heath Ledger like joker returning to Challenge Batman again. I mean you at sabertooth in the comics versus him in any of the wolverine movies. Do you think the new MCU version is going to do half the stuff that Victor Creed did to Logan in the comics?

Loki was featured in 9 different projects, but he was only kind of a villain in two. Thanos was just a cameo until he became the big bad in two films.

Let’s look at Lex Luther, Wouldn’t it be interesting if we got a Superman trilogy, where he becomes more in hinged and a bigger threat to Superman with each installment. A type of trilogy where the hero becomes a better person with each movie meanwhile the villain becomes worse at the same time.

In film school, one of my screen writing teachers told us to never write a villain as a villain, but as a character that you want the audience to understand. That’s why we always refer to them as antagonist and not villains. They are somewhat an extension of the main characters story, And that works. But what if you need that antagonist for the next story. They did their job already in the previous story so what else can you do with them for the next. This is what every screenwriter in Hollywood is taught. Villains or antagonist are not being looked at as returning returning characters as antagonist to the story.

Namor and Talocan we’re definitely a major threat towards Wakanda. But are we ever going to get another story where Namor decides to wage war on the rest of the world anyway, without Wakanda help. A movie where Talocan decides to invade America. Where Sam Wilson’s Captain America teams up with Bucky and the rest of the thunderbolts to defend the United States? That sounds pretty cool but that’s never gonna happen, because Namor when featured again is going to be a hero.

A resolution is necessary. The audience wants to feel complete, Otherwise what’s the point. That’s why we always criticize Batman for throwing joker in prison. He’s gonna break out and do it again and again. But then what’s the point of the next Batman story. If Batman kills the joker then the joker has won. Every principle that Batman has for not killing his villains is thrown out the window.

You could still tell a finalize story and tell another one using the same characters. These are superheroes from comic books, ongoing stories similar to novela and soap operas. If the studios and the fans want franchises then it can’t just be one and done stories. It doesn’t work that way.

Even in real life, if all our problems are resolved in one day then what’s the point of getting up the next day. There’s always going to be threats caused by The same thing. 10 years ago America and Russia weren’t on good terms. Now guess what’s happening again. Back then Idiotic groups who called themselves superior are trying to harm and degrade people of color. Now we got other idiotic groups to call themselves white nationalist Who are trying to do the same within social media. The fight never ends, it’s how our heroes tackles each battle one by one that matters.

Ultimately what I’m trying to say in terms of MCU villains, they have a problem writing them for a long-term purpose. That doesn’t mean they’re written or acted badly. It Just that there are no longer viable characters after their first encounter as The main villain. They are used as extensions of the main character. Not as extensions of the shared universe that they’re trying to showcase.

That’s the problem that the MCU has with their villains.

Back to the Routes? (A spoiler-free review of Assassin's Creed Mirage)

Thanks to the amazing people at Ubisoft I got a chance to play Mirage early, and after a few days, I am still playing with a huge smile. Because this game is such a joy to play and experience.

The game kicks off with an amazing intro that is up there with Bayek's opening speech In Origins, and then drops you into Basim's shoes and the game begins. And within the few moments of playing you can see how this world is built for parkour and stealth. There are a lot of NPCs milling about making plenty of options to blend but also creating a sense that this world is alive and thriving. There are also a lot of obstacles for the player to use to help them reach the rooftops, and with Basim's light and faster feel chaining parkour routes has never felt so fun.

I am now 10 hours into the story and it is one I'm heavily invested in because it's smaller and more linear, and it's a very good story, one full of mystery and suspense, and even with Basim's fate already set with Valhalla the writers still have managed to create dramatic moments for the character.

The only reservation I had when I started playing was the Back to the Roots marketing and how the team was going to make the game feel back to the roots. And I am happy with what they have achieved because to me it's not the 1:1 Assassin's Creed 1 gameplay that I associate with the series roots, instead the developers have taken the best parts of the recent RPG games and combined them with the best parts of the older titles, to create a perfect blend of old and new. With a sense of nostalgia in the gameplay I would love to see more games in this style.

I do feel there are a lot of positives about this title, from how the world encourages stealth and parkour and the amazing detailed world of Baghdad. But I do feel at some moments this game is let down by its over-challenging combat. For example, in my gameplay, I came to an area that was heavily fortified and my only tool was a throwing knife. At first, planning the route to stealth was exciting and fun, but when I tried to ledge assassinate a guard no matter how many whistles he never walked to the ledge. So I had to chance a combat encounter, which resulted in me being swarmed by 2 agile guards that are easy to pary which triggers an instant kill option like older titles. But there was also an armored guard who could only be damaged from behind. So trying to doge 3 attackers on low stamina with outfits that don't have damage reduction systems became difficult as 4 hits and game over. With more tools at your disposal, the challenging combat becomes a way to force players into navigating more stealthy and pre-planning tools and routes. I feel this approach is clever and can be great, but In early areas where your tools are limited to what you have unlocked combat becomes more of a chore than a fun mechanic to get you to play more stealthy.

Overall even with the challenging combat, there is more to this game that overshadows the combat. Mirage is a world begging to be explored, bright vibrant, and alive. The urban areas are filled with parkour routes or places to blend in making you feel more like a stealthy assassin. This is a game I would recommend to both newer and older fans, and I do hope Ubisoft attempts to make these types of games again.

Time for introductions!

Greetings to all you lovely people. My name is Jack (or John as I commonly go by). Welcome to my Tumblr! I took an interest in writing FanFictions back in 2012. I’ve written several stories, also took breaks here and there, but now I am back and writing primarily for Sonic! It’s a franchise I’ve adored since I was a kid and I always wanted to find the confidence to write stories around them. With that said and done, I post regular previews to my next updates. NICKNAMED THE GREEN ADVOCATE &. A POETIC WANDERER.
