My running notes from Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco:
I love snarky chaos characters so much. “Take it from someone who talks too much” *kills the guys while he’s monologuing* “you talk to much”
*mid battle* What’s the word for fucker in this language? *makes best attempt* is later corrected with the right word because what he says means cantaloupe. “Ah, I believe I am starting to understand your frustrations with my language”
Like Witcher if despite the witcher being badass, the vampires were even more badass. (Like even the “well fuck” is so Witcher 🤭)
Can’t say I love you. Just says fuck you instead.
Like, he’s a badass reaper and then the vampires are just all *you fragile, we protect you” and he resents them for it even if he secretly loves it.
Lady Song kicking ass again.
10/10 would recommend. Soft, queer, bloody gory romantasy. *chefs kiss*

🌙𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰🌙
Bride by Ali Hazelwood
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Misery Lark, daughter of the Vampyre council’s leader, has been forced into an alliance with the Weres in the form of a marriage. She thinks pack leader and Alpha, Lowe, must have his own reasons for entering into this marriage of convenience since Weres and Vampyres have been mortal enemies for as long as she can remember. As long as the Vampyres, and her new husband don’t suspect her real motive for getting closer to Lowe Moreland, then all is fair in love and war!
I’ll be honest and say I had no idea what to expect coming into this book—(I went in not knowing the gist) and I liked The Love Hypothesis, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It has everything I love: werewolves, marriage of convenience, witty banter, and a great subplot! I’ve heard some mixed reviews, and to address people’s concerns…this is NOT an A/B/O book. There is knotting in the spicy scenes, so maybe people were confused, mislead or disappointed? If they expected full on A/B/O romance, this is knot the book!! lol Also, if you have read Ali’s books before her female characters are super book smart, but let’s be honest sometimes are clueless with love even when it’s obvious. I find it charming! lol (hello idiots in love!)
Anyway, the banter between Misery, who is not even the most likeable character—she truly hates everyone—and Lowe who is such a quiet authoritative Alpha wolf is amazing! The side characters are great, and I liked that she branched off into a new subgenre. Pick up this book if you’re a Ali Hazelwood fan or looking for something different in your romance read. I heard someone say—this is Rennesmee’s love story with Jacob and now that’s all I’ll think of and it kills me☠️
Read if you love:
🐺Werewolves, Vampires, etc
💍 Marriage of convenience
🩸Paranormal romance
🐾 Fated mates
👨‍👩‍👧 Found family
🔎 Mystery

🧄 Garlic & the Vampire by Bree Paulsen
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Witch Agnes has a large group of spirited vegetables and fruit from her garden that help her cultivate it for the market in town. When there are rumors of a vampire living in a castle in the mountains, it might be up to anxious Garlic to deal with it.
Now this was a super cute story that had such great autumnal vibes. Garlic is relatable and such a fun character to follow through her mishaps and attempts to find courage. Her friend (or partner?) Carrot is also really supportive and kind. I liked how wholesome the story was!

Kobo Amazon Storygraph
Short answer: No.
Longer answer: Well, still no, but I did actually enjoy it more than I expected to.
The story follows Oliver, a vampire aristocrat reluctantly engaged to a vampire prince, Alexander, who falls instead for the suave designer hired to make their suits. The prose is clunky and the situation faintly ludicrous, with worldbuilding that seemed to just have been thrown against the wall. Oliver's father is abusive, but written in a way so over the top that it just becomes ridiculous, and while Oliver's reaction to it would be entirely sympathetic in a real human, his lack of self-awareness became grating as the book went on.
Still, I did find myself wanting to read more. While haphazard, the worldbuilding contained a lot of juicy, trope-y bits that were fun, and I actually found myself invested - not so much in the main characters' development, but, surprisingly, Alexander's, in learning not to be quite such a twat.
There's apparently a planned sequel that will follow Alexander and, honestly, I will probably give it a read.
Final verdict: Vampires of Eden is readable, and worth picking up if you're particularly craving a trashy m/m, vampire situation that doesn't require you to think.

Vampire Chronicles Book Review/Rant #2
The Vampire Lestat
I think we can all agree, what a turnaround! So completely different from IWTV. I’m not sure what I was expecting, probably something more like a Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edwards’ perspective) or a Slayer Chronicles (to the Vladimir Tod series) Turned out to be more of The Saga of Larten Crepsley (to the CIrque du Freak series)(I was raised by vampire books, apparently).
Anyway, what a ride! About halfway through I was feeling a little frustrated that we hadn’t gotten to when he met Louis yet, but I was also having so much fun reading about this Chaos BisexualTM. So much happens, so many dumb Lestat adventures, Nicki, Lestat’s turning, Gabrielle, Armand and his coven, Marius, Akasha and Enkil, Louis and Claudia, Rockstar music video films, vampires ablaze out of nowhere! 10/10 Romp, I had so much fun reading this.
Lestat is so many things, he’s cheery and determined to brighten the day of those he loves, he’s been beaten and abused by his own family, he hopes and dreams like any young person, yet also deeply fears the meaninglessness of life itself. I can for sure relate.
I also enjoyed the way it was written, easy and lighthearted, even in darker parts Lestat describes things with humor to mask the pain.
Favorites:
I appreciate when Lestat takes the time to describe the wonders of the modern world, what stands out to him, what doesn’t. He’s blown away by film, excited by women in bare arms, that even poor people could eat meat. In later books he’s so excited by pens that can write forever. Super interesting to think about, and the though experiment of “what would a vampire think of world through the ages” is one of my favorite things about vampire media.
Lestat and Nicki’s relationship is so cute! Their drunken afternoons in “the conversation,” they take turns comforting each other from their familial demands and expectations. They go to Paris and live in a shitty apartment while they work their asses off in the theater trying to pay rent. It’s almost like a CBS sitcom, but like, in a good way. It’s so devastating to me that Vampire Nicki ended up like he did.
Gabrielle, my love! What a queer icon. She cuts her hair, wears men’s clothes, even Lestat gets in on it, trying to find her the manliest jewelry. I think about the freedom female vampires must experience in this series a lot. Gabrielle clearly hated being a mom and wife and living in a crumbling castle. And now she is finally free, freer than any of her wildest fantasies.
When Lestat asks her if she had become a vampire first, wouldn’t she also send money and gifts to the family and keep caring for them, and she’s just like, oh psssh yeah, of course 😂
Armand/Lestat being worsties.
Marius spending eons hiding Those Who Must Be Kept only to pick up Lestat, go: I like ya kid, you got spunk, let me spill all the vampire secrets. Only for the Most Special BoyTM
When we FINALLY get the 3 whole paragraphs about Louis and Claudia at the end of the book, it’s not enough, but what is there is lovely. “Even in his crudest moments, Louis touched the tenderness in me” “But I loved him, plain and simple” UGH, Anne PLEASE.
Least Favorites:
Why did Lestat slip his mom the tongue 😭
Not enough Louis 😡 (Little did I know there would only be crumbs of him from then on)
Vampire Nicki 😣 He hated Lestat in the end and then Armand cut his hands off! He deserved better.
Smutt:
Nicki and Lestat getting drunk and making out at the tavern! Love that for them.
I am NOT counting Lestat/Gabrielle kisses.
If I missed something maybe y’all can let me know.
Nonsense Meter:
Medium nonsense, I think. Especially considering the books to come.
Lestat flying and SCREAMING at the Theater. Lestat showing up to the catacombs to utterly destroy the cult with facts and logic and “New evil for a new era.” Lestat giving into the intrusive thoughts to kiss Akasha and play her the violin only to nearly get killed by Enkil, and OF COUSE, the whole Rockstar Lestat thing, with the music videos and the song lyrics and the Halloween concert.
Misc:
It was Marius’s fault for sending Lestat to go live a human life! Thank you/goddamn you.
I am confused by how at the start of the book Lestat is interested in rock, he goes to jam with Satan’s Night out and loves the attention that would come with being a rockstar, but it’s only after he reads IWTV and gets all upset about it that he decides he’s going to get Louis’s attention by becoming a world-famous rockstar. “I ached for him, ached for his romantic illusions [...] his physical presence.” But once Louis does find Lestat, not much happens.
I was so excited for the reunion once Louis find’s Lestat and his band chilling before the concert, would they fight?! Would they make out?! And it was. . .ok, Louis tries to warn Lestat, and they dance around their feelings, and that’s kind of it. Lestat doesn’t even ask about the book!
Then I was excited that Gabrielle (post-concert disaster rescue) got to meet her shit son’s ex-husband! Was she going to be disapproving (no one is good enough for her boy), furious about the release of IWTV, or maybe try to convince them to give up mortal world shenanigans and go climb waterfalls with her? Nope, we got nothing, just wondering if it was Marius setting all the fledglings on fire. Anne . . . I don’t get it.

Just finished Carmilla— it is a strange, but fairly intriguing and fascinating story of homosexuality and vampirism. Laura seemed like she truly was in love with Carmilla, but didn’t want to accept it herself. Considering the time period, homophobia was the norm, and she feared being seen as some type of weirdo. Not only that, but Laura often expressed her wishes for a friend, considering she had only ever really had her father and governesses in the secluded chateau. She was so excited for a friend when Carmilla came along, then was quickly seduced by the beautiful girl. And, as this happened, she was manipulated and tricked by the vampire, Carmilla, or actually Countess Mircalla von Karnstine. Who saw that coming, right? Really, thats what you expect out of a vampire story,— but then again, I suppose this set all the precedents. Either way, it is a good book! :D

Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas
This book was so incredibly good! When I began reading this book, I was expecting something that focused on just the horror aspect and the interesting take on the vampire lore. However, with a wonderful surprise, it drew you into the romance between Nena and Néstor - the hurt, the grief, the miscommunication, the slow burn, the coming to terms with the mistakes they have made in the past and how they won't fall to them again. How they are tied to a love of their land and devotion to their family but in the end find home within each other.
This amazing story brings these two characters together to fight for each other, their people, and their land, all while trying to also fight for the future they have dreamed about. The bloodthirsty vampires are only the start of it.
5/5

Breaking Dawn Book Review
Tumblr media
Breaking Dawn
Author: Stephanie Meyer
Description: To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, a tumultuous year of temptation, loss, and strife have led her to the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or to pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fates of two tribes hangs.
Rating: ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Review: The end to an era, yet not its highlight. Breaking Dawn brings to a close the infamous Twilight saga with a story so convoluted and unsatisfactory I have gained new fondness for the movie adaptations.
Breaking Dawn is the longest of the original quadruplet and unnecessarily so. Too many pages could’ve been omitted and still reached the same conclusion. Additionally, Stephanie Meyer’s writing quality falters in its acceptable calibre. It can hold its own for quite a few pages and then suddenly it’s muddled by phrases one could easily find in a young teenager’s diary. There’s extensive emotion, yet many a time it reads superficial or corny or completely unserious. Some chapters are well executed and some make my mind scream in protest. The honeymoon phase read like a lovely rom-com and the birth was borderline traumatising. An underwhelming beginning and a surprisingly gratifying ending. And even with its ups and downs there were too many superfluous passages written, too many pages wasted.
Additionally, it seemed the story’s hero was fated to be untouched, for any real problem her way had a very convenient solution. There’s a risk Bella won’t see her father or have a normal life once turned because of the newborn temperament? No problem! She’s not affected by such trivialities. The shifter werewolves are gonna attack because of her child? No worries, one of them imprints on the baby and thus is completely protected. Oh but wait, he imprinted on her child? Terrible! But all right once the child is suddenly under vampire threat. Ah, the Volturi come to attack? No problem, Bella evolves her power right before the battle to protect everyone on their side. These are just a few of the events Bella just breezes through with ease, but there are certainly more. The rules of the Twilight universe don’t seem to apply to her. Nothing can harm her, for the doting author of this franchise has her protected from any real consequence. It’s tacky, it’s boring and incredibly far-fetched every single time it happens.
However, besides this and the questionable choices in the plot-line, I must confess that the honeymoon and the confrontation with the Volturi were quite entertaining. Even though the convenience of Bella’s powers and their sudden evolution, it was pretty absorbing to read her overpowering the Volturi’s army. The unexpected friendship between Edward and Seth was also a breath of fresh air.
Though in the end, endearing and entertaining moments were not enough to uplift the entire novel.

Alucard's a reclusive, former god-hunting vampire lord. Zalith's a promiscuous warlord who comes from old money and an ancient demon bloodline. When the pair meet, Alucard's quiet life is turned upside down, and Zalith's 600 years of meaningless conquests appear to be at their end.
***
Alucard always works alone; from slaying werewolves and keeping the peace between humans and vampires to carrying out jobs for his tyrant boss, Damien. But when he meets a demon in a small tavern, his entire life is turned upside down. Damien orders him to work with Zalith to move endangered vampires from one world to another, and they only have a year.
But how is he supposed to keep the werewolves at bay while taking care of Zalith's vampires? In order to keep the peace, Alucard has no choice but to split his time between the mission and his deal with the humans. However, when a powerful werewolf Alpha emerges from the forest, Alucard is forced to ask for Zalith's help.
While working alongside one another, their hate slowly dissipates, and Alucard and Zalith perceive an intimidating truth: they were both missing something in their very different lives, and fate might have delivered it to them. But would they have time to grasp it?

This was so good! It’s got so much style and fashion and this volume had a slightly seeder, more sinister vibe to it that I absolutely loved. I also really liked the En and Ichii started to actually talk about their feelings for each other instead of using sex as a distraction. I also liked that we got to see more of what’s been going on on the background since En was turned. And the cliffhanger ending??! I’m not okay after that. I need the next volume asap! Fangs vol 2 is getting five stars from me. And I can’t wait for the next volume!

Vampire Chronicles Book Review/Rant #1
Interview with the Vampire
Overall:
I mean, what can I say, it’s the OG. It’s what started it all, it’s pretty dang good. It’s just a little odd how the whole book is in speech quotes because it’s almost all Louis speaking, but I got used to it after a while. So dramatic, so melancholy.
I didn’t realize that Louis and Lestat actually fight each other, the violence is brief and not very graphic, but it’s there.
Claudia’s arc of becoming a grown-up is so good, the way Louis describes it, she’s playing with dolls one day, and reading advanced literature the next, the way something in her expression changes over the decades, where one day he has to come to terms that she is not a child, and has not been for some time. Also, her murdering Lestat was a bit too “super easy, barely an inconvenience” even though she very thoroughly thought it out, but still.
The Théâtre des Vampires vampires are kinda gross. The way Armand paralyzes/hypnotizes Claudia so he can talk to Louis is so creepy.
OMG Lestat getting dragged in for a “trial” and Louis begging him to defend their murder attempt by basically admitting he was a piece of shit to them is WILD.
Louis’s grief is so real, if you take him at his word (which, in this book, I suppose we should) he was stuck with a demanding, rude maker, the small attempt they made at a “human” life was so short-lived and they all ended up worse for it, making vampire friends is hard because vampires are largely gross and violent, his daughter was murdered, and the one guy who crushed on him didn’t stop the murder of his daughter and the love died out over the decades. So, not a lot of fun to be found (in human or vampire activities). Louis seems so lost and I did feel bad for him.
It makes sense he’d wish to warn the world, but I’m kinda with Daniel though, Louis, baby, you did it wrong, I’d be out there dancing in Paris, swimming in the Caribbean, falling in love with vampires and humans, eating child predators, like, having a time! Clearly I too learned nothing.
Favorites:
Louis giving his neighbor Girl Boss advice once her dumb brother got himself killed in a duel so she wouldn’t lose her money and societal standing.
Claudia! Everything from her yelling at her parents to making Madeline build her a mini room in the hotel room complete with tiny rocking chairs and tiny gowns.
Louis burning down the Théâtre and slicing anyone that tried to come at him. It’s not just cool and exciting, but it’s written well! I get confused by written action scenes easily, and this didn’t feel confusing.
Least Favorites:
The plantation. I mean, Lestat feeding on the enslaved people there, it’s . . .uncomfortable, to say the least.
Louis and Armand being together but Louis clearly being very done with Armand but just stringing him along while Armand shittily tires to cheer him up/make him feel anything again is sad and anticlimactic for a book filled with so much adventure/chaos/action/death.
Smutt:
Claudia asking Louis about what sex used to be like and Louis freaking out about it was so funny to me.
Armand and Louis’ little date at the top of the tower! Armand trying to tell Louis about Venice and his master who loved him, Louis barreling past Venice to be all wait you loved someone else :(  OMG Louis, pay attention!
Nonsense Meter:
Pretty low, I think the most nonsense part was Santiago imitating everything Louis did like some kind of mime.
Misc:
The whole thing with the revenants and the peasants using the horses to find what graves held vampires was really interesting. I’m nearing the end of the VC series and still wondering if these revenants will ever show up again.
