Great news today!! No more physical therapy appointments for this guy! Dr has cleared me to finish out my rehab from home. Shoulder is feeling really good and I’ve gained full mobility and range of motion lifting from my side outward and about 95% raising my arm forward. Still a little more to gain reaching behind my back but overall greatly improved.

My therapist was also impressed how much strength I’ve already gained back in all push and pull motions that incorporate my shoulder. I was warned not to push it and take it easy on overhead pressing or pulling motions. But overall cleared to start easing into some heavier weight training again so long as there is no pain or discomfort. Man it feels like it’s taken forever to get to this point but it feels so good to finally feel like I can start to function normally again. Cheer’s to getting over the hump!

Day 17 - Falling In Love

Dream sighs as he materialises in place, “Hob,” he greets, and there’s only a slight jump as Hob looks away from the view with a beaming smile. “I doubt this will work,” he says, resting his hands on the rail of the Eiffel Tower. 

“Don’t think what’ll work? Maybe I just wanted to be romantic,” Hob says, smiling still as Hob leans in to kiss him softly. The kiss starts chaste, but Dream deepens in, feeling Hob moan against him as the other’s warm body presses against his. 

“You will not be able to make me fall in love with,” he stops, the words living or humanity behind his teeth, and Hob shrugs, an arm going around his waist to pull him close. 

“Well I made you fall in love with me somehow, so miracles can happen,” Hob says enthusiastically, positive to the point of annoyance, though Dream’s more endeared than annoyed with it these days. “Now, it’s simple! Name one thing you like about this,” Hob says, free hand gesturing towards the view from the Eiffel. 

“You,” he replies flatly, making Hob sigh and Dream’s lip twitch into a small smirk. 

“One thing that specifically isn’t me,” Hob amends, hand running through his soft hair ― which Dream hums and nuzzles into as he looks out to the scenery. 

“Will I get something if I do?” Dream asks, nipping at Hob’s ear as Hob sighs again. The nibbling of the other’s ear is stopped as Hob pushes a daydream towards him and he shivers, gripping Hob’s arms as he’s drowned in hands and teeth, the stubble of Hob’s beard pressing inside his thigh, many hands and fingers reaching inside, nails scratching his nipples and neck― and suddenly there’s nothing, the lack of it freezing and making him gasp. 

“Will that do?” Hob whispers, brown eyes dark, “or maybe…” Hob trails off, turning to look at the view and Dream gasps can’t gasp, can’t move his mouth, silver O-ring in his mouth and Hob’s cock, red and leaking, so close to his gagged mouth, Hob’s hand on his cheek, thumb rubbing circles into his jaw. 

The daydream ends with Dream’s whine, only realising that his hands were cuffed in the daydream as it ends, the cold difference from a lack of daydream. “Persuasive,” he chokes out, taking deep breaths he doesn’t need as he focuses on the lemon and bergamot of Hob’s cologne. “Very persuasive.”

“I’ve been told I can be,” Hob says lightly. “Now, come on.” 

Dream nods, nuzzling more into Hob’s hair before he pulls away, looking out at the view. “I like…” he frowns, “the many historic buildings, the art required to make them so sculptural,” he says eventually.

The short of it: Phoenixman was wrong

Wrong about there being a hard limit for cyborgs, that is:

It seemed to be refuted there and then, but since then, Genos has had no understanding of what he did.

Indeed, he's been frustrated that he's entirely dependent on artificial parts to do anything and doubts that it's truly strength.

It's been very exciting to see Nichirin, a man who keeps a telepathic sword that will merge with you if it likes the cut of your jib, say that there isn't a difference between living and non-living parts when it comes to drawing out strength.

Genos has two big problems. The first, and more obvious one is that that Genos believes that there's a hard limit. Even though he himself has shown it not to be true, he doesn't appreciate it. What'st troublesome is that he discounts the qualities he brings to make his actions possible. The courage, the determination, the resourcefulness, the willpower, and the sheer spirit he has don't come from a lab.

The second is Kuseno. If completely accepting your body as your own regardless of composition is the fundamental step to breaking your limits, then a guy who finds making you stronger, shinier cages a rewarding challenge is a problem. Where One-Punch Man differs a lot from regular shonen is that a lot of it is about people who have already achieved mastery (not just Saitama). People who are really good and have 'made it' are still looking for a source of challenge, and whether they deal with it positively or negatively is an important source of conflict in the story. Unfortunately for Genos, Kuseno is not exempt from this.

It's not that he wants to see Genos suffer, but damn does he love 'impossible' engineering challenges.

And Genos enthusiastically accepts any upgrades Kuseno offers. As long as he and Kuseno get along, there's no way he can break free. The quickest way to change his mind would be for him to see that Kuseno is part of what's holding him back and stop accepting upgrades. Unfortunately, there's no nice or easy way to do that. With any luck, they'll have a giant fight instead of murder.

Phoenixman may be wrong. But there's no easy road to transcendence.
