Synopsis: Headcanons of how Bakugo would be as a college student + what it’d be like to date him.

⇶ When Katsuki gets to college, he mellows out a whole lot

⇶ Of course he’s more mature than he was in high school. But now, he has a very obvious security in himself and is like a whole new person

⇶ He’s much quieter, and keeps to himself for the most part

⇶ Somehow, he’s even more focused on his goals than ever, and because of that he just doesn’t have energy to waste on cussing people out and yelling all the time

⇶ He has so much going for himself and he knows it, his priorities are set in stone and nothing can keep him from reaching his goals

⇶ Katsuki would likely major in something related to business whether it’s actually business, finance, analytics, etc, that’s all he can see himself in, and he’d fit the part well

⇶ Even though Katsuki has worked through a lot of his issues by this point, he still has a lot of frustration and stress he needs to channel

⇶ And being competitive by nature, he joins the football team and boxes on the side

⇶ Despite most of his teammates being fairly popular, Katsuki is extremely lowkey

⇶ He is still very popular, in a sense. People know him and know of him, but he minds his business and hardly speaks to most people

⇶ But of course the one person he spends as much time with as possible is his pretty girlfriend

⇶ What drew Katsuki to you initially was your determination and work ethic

⇶ You were smart, and heavily involved with the school and your peers, and he found this oddly attractive

⇶ Before getting together, you were decently known through your in involvement around campus. But after, you were both school celebrities

⇶ Everyone knew, or knew of, the two of you. And they all knew you belonged to each other

⇶ Though, you were both so busy that you’re hardly together during the week

⇶ But you always make your way towards each other by the end of the day, and compensate for lost time over the weekends

⇶ During your freshman year, you’d sneak into each others dorms for the weekend to spend time with one another

⇶ Of course, staying in a drab dorm room all day could be boring, even with company

⇶ So the two of you would always end up taking little adventures together whether it was a walk around campus, driving around town, shopping, or going out to eat, you always made sure your time was well spent

⇶ By your sophomore year, Katsuki would get his own apartment near by the campus

⇶ And although you still had a dorm, you essentially lived with him

⇶ A good chunk of your clothes and shoes were there, he bought all your body care for you so you weren’t taking it back and forth, more bonnets than you’d ever need, and of course, him.

⇶ But it was an advantage to the both of you, and your relationship. Because as busy as the two of you could get sometimes, even if you didn’t see each other the whole day, laying in the same bed at night was enough for you

⇶ During the week, even if your schedules had no alignment whatsoever, Katsuki would always make time to see you

⇶ He has a special knack for always knowing where you were at all times, and knew just when to show up, even if your location was off and you hadn’t communicated where you were to him in the slightest

⇶ This especially comes into play in the context of getting all three meals in on a daily basis

⇶ Katsuki still loves to cook, and he’s never played about having a proper diet and he won’t start with you

⇶ Even if he’s gone from his apartment by the time you wake up, there’s a nice warm breakfast sitting on his counter for you

⇶ And no matter where you are come lunch, he’ll make sure that you eat

⇶ Katsuki pulls his random “I’m outside” texts often

⇶ Usually, it’s to bring you some food, and sometimes he just misses his girl

⇶ As crazy as they may be at times, seeing that notification pop up never fails to make you smile

⇶ Nobody misses it when you smile like that either, you’re so well known as a pair that it’s expected that you’re going to see him when you basically skip out of the room

⇶ Unfortunately, being a well known pair doesn’t stop audacious people from hitting on either of you

⇶ On Katsuki’s end, he think people are insane when they approach him in such a way knowing that he’s dating you

⇶ It’s such a slap in the face whenever it happens, that he can do nothing but stare at the person like they’re stupid until they go away

⇶ On your end, Katsuki’s temper jumps out whenever people get the nerve to approach you in any sort of flirtatious way

⇶ If he’s in the area whenever it happens, he always pops up to remove the person from your space

⇶ If he’s not, you always tell him exactly what happened and the only response you ever get is, “I’ll handle it.”

⇶ Regardless of whether or not he’s present, he always handles it by having a less than friendly exchange with your pursuer that usually puts an end to things

⇶ If the person decides to persist for some reason, you become more reluctant to tell Katsuki about it

⇶ You know he cares about you, but you don’t want him stressing or putting to much energy into something that’s not worth it

⇶ But Katsuki can read you like a book, and to him, no energy that goes towards you is ever too much

⇶ Though Katsuki’s is reputation is fairly polished, it’s only blemishes come from people he ended up fighting over you

⇶ Days where neither of you are busy are both of your favorite days

⇶ They’re usually spent at his apartment, or running errands together

⇶ And of course, he squeezes in time for dates

⇶ On occasion, he’ll randomly tell you to get dressed up nice before taking you out for a fancy dinner and spoiling you with delicious food and thoughtful gifts

⇶ While you always stress about him spending so much money on you when he doesn’t let you do the same, he doesn’t mind at all

⇶ To others, Katsuki always seems to have a suspicious amount of money for a college student

⇶ It sparks some rumors, but nobody cares enough to make a big deal about it

⇶ The truth is, he makes money by modeling for his mom on the side, and makes a little off boxing as well

⇶ And if he’s being honest, most of his money goes to you

⇶ He pays for your hair products, hair, nails, clothes, random things you want, and sometimes even your groceries

⇶ Most of the time, you do small dates like picnics and study dates

⇶ He’ll set a cozy mood in his apartment with a led lights, a playlist going, candles lit, and both of you in matching pajamas

⇶ Katsuki makes snacks during breaks and gives you kisses whenever you get a question right

⇶ And what kind of boyfriend would he be if he wasn’t your personal tutor? He helps you on all and any work that you have, and if he doesn’t know jack shit about the class he’ll learn just for you

⇶ On days where just one of you is busy, you’re still attached at the hip, tagging along wherever the other goes just to be in each others presence

⇶ Game days are “secretly” Katsuki’s favorite

⇶ There’s a certain feeling that he only gets when he sees you wearing his jersey and hears you shouting his name from the stands

⇶ Runs over to talk to you whenever he gets a chance, even if he’s not supposed to be over there

⇶ Takes his good luck kisses VERY seriously, and honestly gets frustrated if he doesn’t get one both before the game and during half time

⇶ Even though he’s supposed to be with the team after games, he somehow always manages to slip away and simply go straight home with you

⇶ Half the time, he should be going to his trainers to get any cuts and bruises treated, but he’ll break a bone before he goes to a trainer instead of you

⇶ Puts it on everything that he heals extra fast when you do it, and even faster if you kiss him while you patch him up

⇶ While cleaning him up should really only take 30 minutes, it always ends up taking 2 hours because Katsuki can’t keep his hands to himself

⇶ Always going to kiss you on your lips, cheeks, and neck, always trying to hold your hands, grab at your thighs, pull you closer by your waist

⇶ You can hardly manage to ice a bruise when he gets like this

⇶ But when you finally get done cleaning him up, he thanks you and smothers you with more kisses

⇶ Cooks up a nice dinner to curl up on the couch with, and puts on a movie that you more than likely fall asleep to

⇶ But like the good boyfriend he is, Katsuki carries you to bed where he puts your bonnet on for you and crawls into bed with you

⇶ Coming home to you is by far Katsuki’s favorite part of his day, and even with the path in front of him, he thinks he’d be lost without you

Composite Chart Observations

A composite chart is a chart that represents the relationship between two people in one single chart. It's Person A's chart + Person B's chart= Their relationship's chart. It's still considered a new technique as it is not as popular as synastry. So I wanted to start with this one first! It's really the same as a basic synastry but in one chart. So it shows the dynamic of the relationship, the purpose of the meeting, mutual challenges and strengths of the relationship. It's another way to see how your relationship is. While synastry tells how two people feel about each other, you can see composite as a way to see the relationship itself.

‧₊˚✩彡 Sun in Taurus 10H 19°

This is funny considering that in our Solar Return Synastry, I get we will end up working together and gaining some popularity together. So our sun in 10H totally makes sense, since we will be also coworkers. This could also mean a public relationship, a relationship that has reputation. Because it's in Taurus, this is a stable relationship, long term, and it could be very chill for both of us. We find a certain stability with each other. It's a very good thing in a Composite chart. Moreover, our reputation as a couple could be seen this way too. It could be considered as a serious and long lasting relationship, so marriage vibes? Wealthy too. It's also an indicator of having a relationship that develop slowly but surely. In which you begin working for ChrisMD and meet a cute boy when he features in one of his videos.

I've been one of Chris MDs photographers for almost two months now. I'm really enjoying it, don't get me wrong most of the videos are filmed outside on football pitches so it's usually freezing but I still always get great photos. Today he's filming "we took 100 shots vs an amputee keeper and scored __ goals" with Harry and Ethan. I've met both of them before at a different shoot and they were polite but we didn't really interact.

I wore blue baggy jeans, a black coat and a thick blue scarf to keep me warm along with my Uggs. I put my hair into a claw clip and applied a little bit of makeup. When I was ready I got in my car to head to the football pitch, thankfully it's only a 15 minute drive since we use this place almost every time.

Once I arrived I got my camera from the boot then shut it and locked my car. As I went to make my way towards the pitch I walked past Harry's car just as he was getting out. I smiled at him lightly. "Here let me carry that." he said taking the heavy equipment from me. "Thanks." I said simply.

When on the grass Harry placed my bag down and went to say hello to Chris. Ethan and the goal keeper arrived soon after, I set up my camera and filling began. They were having a stinker and ended up losing (it was close tho). I'd been talking snaps of the shoot but it was time to get the photos for the thumbnail.

"Ok, thumbnail faces!" I said as I looked through the camera. Harry's mouth turned into a large O shape, Chris put on an exaggerated smile and Ethan looked... angry? I clicked through the pictures. "yup, got it, thanks guys." I said and they nodded. Then I began packing up my things.

As I went to grab my bag to leave someone else's hand grabbed it first... "what are you, my personal assistant now." I said with a chuckle. He smiled and shrugged "I was leaving too so-" Harry said with a shrug. He brought my bag back to my car and placed it in the boot. "Thank you." I said appreciatively. "No problem, see you next time y/n." he said.

The next week I was back filming a football video on the same pitch. This one is another "100 shots vs" but this time it's vs the sidemen. We already filmed Josh, Tobi and Vik's half of the video a few days ago and today it's Harry, Ethan and JJ's half (Simon couldn't be here). It was another cold day so I put on some warm clothes. I put my hair up and applied some makeup.

I left my apartment and just over 30 minutes later arrived at the pitch (due to traffic). I parked and quickly grabbed my camera out of the boot. I struggled slightly as I brought the bag with me towards the field. "Hey!" I said to the main camera man as I scrambled slightly to get my equipment out of the bag, since I was late. "Sorry I'm Late, awful traffic." I said to Chris. He nodded "no problem."

JJ introduced himself since I hadn't met him before. Ethan said a quick hello and Harry flashed me a cute smile "hey, how've you been?" He asked. I smiled "ye good, you?" I asked. But before he could answer the main camera man called him over to do the intro. I gestured for him to go and he did.

The shoot went on for ages and I now was freezing. When they finally finished I walked over towards the boys to take the thumbnail pictures. They all did their usual thumbnail faces and I laughed a little at how funny they all looked. I shivered slightly as I packed my camera away. "Do you need help taking that back to your car?" I turned quickly to see Harry in front of me. "sure, thanks" I said with a smile. He picked up the bag and we walked towards my car.

I opened the boot and he placed it inside. "I was wondering if you wanted to grab some dinner sometime?" Harry asked hopefully. I smiled, I've been waiting for him to ask me out for a while now "I would love that." He nodded "could I get your number and we can organise a time?" He asked. I nodded and he passed me his phone. I typed my number in and he thanked me. "See you soon." I said and slid into my car. He waved me off as I pulled out of the gravel car park.

Once I got home and looked at my phone I saw a new text from an "unknown number"...

Unknown:

Hey it's Harry

Are you free anytime this week??

y/n:

Hey, I'm free Friday night?

Harry:

That's perfect

Do you like Nando's?

Of course

Harry:

Good because I don't think I could have finished this conversation if you didn’t

chapter four 1/2: interlude ( ← previous | next → )

BECOMING SOMEONE HAD NEVER truly been on Jeon Jungkook’s radar. He was born to two loving parents who adored each other as much as they loved him. They weren’t exactly poor or rich, they were just owners of another small restaurant on the streets of Busan, selling mostly chicken that young Jungkook would normally take to school for lunch when it wouldn’t sell.

That was supposed to be his legacy, and he was fine with that. He quite liked helping his mother in the kitchen and packaging the orders.

It wasn’t like they’d sat him down and told him he’d be forced to sell chicken all his life once he got older. No, actually, his mother had always told him to shoot for the stars. He could be anything he wanted as long as he was a good person at the end of the day.

And Jungkook had lived by that.

So becoming someone to him never meant becoming someone great . . . it just meant becoming someone kind.

Until he discovered badminton. You, his mother’s best friend’s daughter, and consequently his best friend since birth, also discovered badminton at the same time. And the both of you . . . the both of you discovered that badminton could be your chance at becoming someone . . . great.

You had taken quite a liking to this fact. You’d been the first to buy all the equipment and when Jungkook said he wasn’t that interested . . . you used all your saved-up birthday money to buy him equipment of his own. (You knew he was just lying anyway. You knew the Jeons didn’t have enough to buy Jungkook his very own racket . . . so you took matters into your own hands. He knew now that was the day he’d developed a crush on you. (A small, childhood crush of course, but still a crush he always remembered.)

He’d never wanted it as much as you, though, and he knew that. He used to think that he did. He used to think that making it to the Olympics would be a dream come true, but even now, after everything, he wasn’t sure if that had ever been true.

Jungkook had loved badminton . . . but he’d been gradually falling out of love with it for years now. But one small fact made it hard for him to admit this: he was good; no . . . he might have been one of the best.

He supposed that was why the little feud with you had started in the first place. He had never really cared about the sport, whereas you had always cared too much, and so his careless actions, yet ever so gracious, results managed to always get under your skin.

And of course, he’d find it funny, mostly because you scrunched your nose in this cute way when you were angry.

(He didn’t like to admit it, but he’d always used to challenge you just to show off to you. Now . . . not in a cruel way . . . but rather, he did it to try to impress you. Yeah . . . it had never really worked out in his favor.)

But he never really minded your attitude toward him. He knew the two of you were some weird kind of friends, and he liked that. He liked having you near him, just like he had liked having Taehyung and Jimin close.

He’d never really liked anyone else . . . (He didn’t realize why until later in life.)

So, yeah, there you had it . . . Jeon Jungkook had the chance to become someone great, but he’d never wanted to be that. He’d just wanted to be kind like his mother had wished him to be. But things didn’t work out that way; Life . . . didn’t work out that way, and in becoming someone great . . . he’d become something he wasn’t proud of.

And that was true . . .

. . . becoming someone had never been on Jeon Jungkook’s radar until he’d turned into someone he barely recognized; until he’d become a ghost of his old self. He hadn’t realized he’d been becoming this . . . person all his life; that it hadn’t started after the incident; that it’d started even when he was a kid.

Because you see, Jungkook had been pulling and plucking at his eyelashes since the sixth grade when he started developing his . . . issues. Like when he’d wake in the morning with his heart racing and his stomach churning, creating a nervous sickness deep inside of him all because he had to attend school. (He’d go all day with that feeling taking over his body. Eventually, he just kind of got used to always having this tight feeling constricting his lungs unless he pretended to fall ill and call his mother to come to pick him up from school.) Or when he’d be left with no choice other than to talk to his peers because that's what you're supposed to do when you're growing up: make friends.

And he’d hide this by putting on a personality. He’d make himself big, loud, and unmissable so no one could ever make him feel small. He’d make fun of himself, make himself seem more approachable, more well-rounded, and less easy to offend. Because if he made himself seem stupid; if he made himself seem laid back . . . no one would think to judge him.

Of course, that didn’t always work. Sometimes people became too comfortable with him. Sometimes so comfortable they’d say things about him to his face, thinking he wouldn’t mind. And while he did make it seem like he didn’t care . . . he did, and hearing those things from people he called friends made him wonder if anyone actually liked him.

That only made him feel more alone.

So he had friends, yes, but none of them ever really knew him because . . . well . . . that had always made him . . . freak out.

And the thing they don't tell you about anxiety: there is no give and take; it just takes and takes and takes.

. . .

He used to think once he got older, these nerves would die down, but he just became scared of new things. He knew how to hide his nerves more now, but storming off toward a bar or disappearing for days on end only worked so much. No matter what he’d always find himself right back at square one . . . He’d sit down by himself, pulling at the ends of his eyelashes because it'd be the only thing he knew that would calm him down.

The funny thing about that was the fact that he used to get compliments about how long his eyelashes were when he was younger (mostly from his mother, followed by her pinching his cheeks but you know . . . ). He didn't even notice just how quickly these compliments stopped once his strange little addiction kicked in. Now in their place were broken lashes and small gaps at the tails of his eyes.

Until the small anxiety tic grew into something so much more . . .

Even as he grew, he never truly learned how to deal with the tight feeling in his chest that would consume him when he got even slightly overwhelmed, and that seemingly small habit never left his side. Like some sick vice, the urge to pluck and pull and pick at his body, at his chapped lips, at his eyelashes, and even the tails of his eyebrows, never went away. They only got worse.

It wasn't until the incident that his strange habit developed into something more gruesome. And this new habit he had developed couldn't be hidden with a silly little white lie. No, this he couldn't hide, because of the simple fact that there was no way he could make things right with his friends, with his teammates, with Tae or even himself. There was no way he could hide just how badly he wished he could take Tae’s place. There was no way anyone could look at him the same again, especially as his tiny habits turned into day-long benders filled with booze and drunk walks back to the dorm. He couldn’t hide the smell of alcohol on his breath no matter how many times he scrubbed at his teeth.

The feeling of numbing everything; of just being able to forget . . . would still stick, and the urge to do it again and again and again would remain because that was the thing about anxiety: it only knew how to take and take and take.

He’d tried to stop a few times before it got worse. He’d tried to quiet the urge and just let it be . . . but he never could, not when he was reminded of what he had done every day.

And the thing was: Jungkook knew he never truly believed he would stop. He had wanted to. Trust him, he wanted to believe that he had actually been getting better, that he wouldn't need the booze and the euphoria which came from numbing the pain inside him. But he always knew he’d give in. He knew his memories would seep back in. They always had.

The past had a way of sneaking up on Jeon Jungkook, and his anxiety only fed on it.

He’d thought he’d left everything behind him. He thought he could live in this sick limbo, forever dotting the line between madness and numbness. Truly, he really thought he could, and he almost did.

Until he saw you again.

He remembered he had walked into that bar all those months again, expecting nothing but another drink in his hand, but there you were, a scowl on your face and a furrowed brow. And suddenly, it was as if he had been transported three years back.

The past was looking him right in the face, and he couldn’t cross it out. He couldn’t put an X on your face and pretend not to know you. He couldn’t pretend to not remember. He couldn’t erase those years. He couldn't erase you.

So he sat down right in front of you, and then he saw it. He’d seen how nervous you had been, trying to make yourself blend in with the group. He’d seen just how different you had become in just three years. And then he saw you bite your fingernails, taking note of the dried blood.

You had an anxious tic, too.

And he wondered if you understood how all this felt.

He wished he could say what his plan was after that, but truth be told: he had no idea. He just remembered touching your hand once and he couldn’t stay away. He supposed a part of him . . . perhaps the part of him stuck in the past couldn’t let a part of you go. And, sure, he wasn’t sure what that all meant but it did mean something . . . and he trusted it.

He still trusted that gut feeling as he brought a hand up to his eyes, rubbing them to clear the sleep from the corners. Dropping his hand, he finally took the time to focus his eyesight, squinting in the dark as he turned his head to the side, finding none other than you sound asleep with your mouth slightly agape as you snored softly.

Then . . . you let one loud snore out, and he couldn’t help it: his grin grew so wide, his eyes crinkling as he silently laughed.

You were a snorer. A loud one at that.

This was something he’d keep to himself.

You’d never admit it if he told you. So he’d keep this to himself. It was something he knew about you that would stay a secret, and that in itself had him attempting to reach for you, but he found that your hand was already clutched tightly around his thumb, stopping him from moving entirely.

With a small smile on his face, he gently pulled the hand wrapped around his thumb, slowly moving you into his arms. Luckily, you were a heavy sleeper, so when he’d finally tucked you into his chest, his chin resting on the crown of your head, you were still snoring into his skin without even stirring in the slightest.

And finally, he could breathe a sigh of relief.

But for what? he still pondered.

And then it hit him.

He’d recognized that look on your face, the nail-biting, your demeanor . . . He recognized it because he knew it well. That look, those feelings, the habits . . . he’d borne those, too. He still did.

Perhaps he had issues with letting the past go. Or perhaps he felt a sense of familiarity with you.

Or maybe he believed in you more than he believed in himself.

And then it clicked.

Jungkook wasn’t exactly a fan of parties. In college, he’d attend them for the sake of his team, perhaps even help throw them, but he’d always find himself standing near Taehyung or Jimin, trying to pass the time before he could crawl into his bed. So . . . when his social battery would drain out . . . Jungkook liked to watch movies.

All kinds of movies . . . sometimes shows. He liked anime and dramas. Hated Pulp Fiction and most sitcoms (mostly because he thought they were trying too hard to be funny half the time). But he didn’t mind romance movies. In fact, he preferred to watch them. He didn’t really find the point in watching something if there wasn’t at least one well-written romance.

He loved love, although it had never really worked out for him, but he still believed in it. His parents had shown him that.

Call him a hopeless romantic, he didn’t care. That was what he was.

He liked thinking that everything would work out the way it was supposed to. It made his anxiety subside enough to let him breathe, although most days he lost sight of that. Most days he lost sight of everything.

But . . . he never truly lost sight of you . . .

Anyway . . .

One of his favorite go-to movies when things would get . . . too much . . . as a kid was Your Name. He loved the art, he loved the plot, the characters . . . everything. He loved the fact that despite it all, a soul connection would always be a soul connection.

When he was little he’d even wished upon shooting stars that he’d hear bells when he found his soulmate. But no bells ever rang, and Jungkook grew up. He realized no bells would ever ring, and that was OK. (He still had just an ounce of hope . . . not that he’d admit that.)

Now . . . OK . . . maybe he was going a little overboard. He’d realized now that perhaps soulmates didn’t exactly exist. Maybe two people just happen to find each other and fit into each other, but where was the fun in that? (Fine, he was getting off track. Fine.))

Soulmates didn’t have to exist. Jungkook could admit that.

But every once in a while, two people find each other and maybe no bells ring and there’s no red string tying them together . . . but . . . they meet and everything else doesn’t seem that scary as long as that person is standing beside them. Maybe that was Jungkook’s fucked up version of love, but he believed in that. Maybe it wasn’t exactly what you’d call fate . . . but it was . . . something . . .

And for a second, as he toyed with your hair, he wondered if you believed in soulmates. That only made him grin, because of course not! You didn’t believe in soulmates, he knew that.

You believed in people.

You believed in . . . him . . .

Jungkook slowly blinked. He knew that now.

He wasn’t exactly sure what that all meant . . . but . . . but you’d sat there and you’d listened to everything that had happened to him . . . and you’d understood. You’d understood him and you’d looked him right in the eyes and told him he wasn’t alone. And fuck . . . he’d believed you.

Maybe it would take a lot longer for him to accept everything you had said, but he did know one thing: you would be there.

And he . . . he wanted to be there for you.

He felt . . . that.

He felt it all.

At the time, he had wondered what he should call this feeling. He’d almost forced himself to stay up half the night with you snoring in his arms while he tried to find the right word, desperately mauling over countless explanations after explanations . . . until . . . well . . .

As Jungkook closed his eyes, squeezing you a little tighter, and breathing in your scent, he realized what he had been trying to ignore ever since he saw you again at the bar all those months ago. He realized why it had always been your opinion that mattered to him the most; why he didn't mind putting on matching froggy headbands with you and doing face masks while just letting the world . . . be; why he could never forget you; why he’d always searched for you in everything . . . even in how he’d dress. He realized why it had always been you; why he would always choose you no matter what over and over again.

And then he realized why that all occurred.

Jungkook loved you.

Wait—

Fuck!

He loved you. He loved you. Holy fuck, he fucking loved you! And fucking hell, he was sure he always had.

He realized this wasn’t just a feeling. There were no bells, and no bells were needed. He couldn’t find a red string tying the two of you together, and he didn’t care to search. He knew this wasn’t just a feeling. No, it was . . . love.

And for a second time that night, he wondered what you believed in . . . and if it included him at all . . .

Communication: To Suho, your relationship comes first and he doesn’t want any false or incorrect information to cause any issues in your relationship. Being a celebrity and in the public eye can cause strain on relationships so he makes sure he spends time communicating with you. He’s open and honest with his feelings and isn’t scared to be vulnerable with you. He was the first to admit feelings, the first to say ‘I love you’ and the first to admit if something scares him. He’s not going to loose you over something as stupid as things left unsaid.

Laughter: The sound of your laugh is music to his ears. If he’s had a bad day or needs some serotonin, then hearing your giggle makes everything better. He knows that life can have some difficult and scary times and that you can be under a lot of stress, whether it be with work, family, friends or just society in general, so putting a smile on your face is his way of showing you that no matter what, he will make sure your future is filled with happiness.

How do you see Max and Nikki’s relationship?

As siblings

I know that's like sometimes what ppl say when there's a straight pairing popular ship (makki) vs a gay popular one (maxneil) and they don't really mean it they just mean they have a uncomfortbilty or hatred towards one of the ships, but in my mind they're literally twins/hj

I have AUs where they're twins, half siblings, step siblings. I love them sm..There's even a line in one of the end credit rap songs that goes something like "we may not have the same color skin but imma treat em like my twin" and I'm like ah yes,,, something to feed into my delusions/j

((on a more srs note I feel like more ppl should look into the end credit lyrics alot of it seems specifically written to fit Max and might give people a better insight into his characterization))

But enough of my fannon delusions n self indulgence they're obviously not actually siblings they're best friends BUT they didn't start off that way no matter how sweet the "you now have three little bastards to deal with" line is bc in the first season, earlier episodes he's more of an asshole to her bc they're still getting to know each other.

He broke her instrument, quicker to basically tell her to shut up on multiple occasions, ect.

Back to the first episode, Max operates BIG on first impressions. Off the bat he's touching Neil's shoulder, he's impressed by his disrespect to authority, he wants to hotwire the bus with him. But Nikki? Hardly addressing her. Even says "why would you help us?" Bc despite biting him, she appeared to be just a 'little more violent, mini-David.' THAT was his first impression of her. Nikki didn't have his attention or respect technically until he learned her willingness to seek and cause chaos near the end of the episode. There's times at later points where she's clearly getting on his nerves.

I'm pretty sure I already wrote out a whole in depth thing about how Max has issues getting attached to people and will fight it off and deny it once it happens even at the cost of their feelings (points at camp corp episode) where as Nikki is a social person who has been denied a real friend til she came to camp campbell same as Neil, who is NOT a social person. They both start off clingy towards Max for this but Nikki works past it and makes 2 other friends while Neil doesn't.

So recap: Max builds a team of two other kids he can just share a common goal with at first, is a bit of a jerk to Nikki initially at times, but she grows on him and now he really values her as a friend n cares for her deeply.

But now onto NIKKI'S POV: She'd been bullied before, it was a traumatic experience for her yes but that's also the ONLY information we have on any past relationships she's had with peers, kids her own age. Any other time she's talking about someone she knew it's often just her mom. sometimes her dad (often not painting a good picture of him but through a childhood innocence lense) or an animal she knew.

So when she makes her first friend group in camp campbell her only prior experience with one is in the flower scouts. Nikki picked up bad habits from them bc she's a kid and doesn't have the emotional maturity to analyze her every behavior.

So when Max is being the type of person who was being quick to shut her down, who (in her own words) was micro managing her, and only ever seemed like he was having a good time when they were doing what HE planned to do, ofc she's gonna start harboring some complaints. Nikki isn't gonna sit down and talk about her feelings to him like an adult she's gonna do what the flower scouts taught her and you talk shit about the problem to OTHER friends.

This isn't to say she secretly hates him, no I firmly believe she deeply cares about him too but they're both flawed people so their friendship has flaws too that doesn't make it void of care for one another.

You can't unbiasedly hate on Nikki for that scene she's mocking him if you're not even taking into consideration WHAT her original issue was. Nikki shit talks, Max has control issues.

As episodes progress I think they really seem to work past it and become better people AND I THINK THAT'S RLLY SWEET I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP ❣️❣️

The way they interact with each other throughout the series really shows that their differences might cause some clashing but they have FUN together and I think their differences and problems just make them more interesting characters

I'm here to ask for a little bit of advice if that's okay (: about a month ago I bought a Wacom drawing pad so I could start experimenting with digital art. artists like you here on tumblr have really inspired me to start making art. but I feel kinda.. lost. I've been mostly drawing naruto manga caps and I'm getting better but I guess I don't know where to go from here. coloring and shading scares me lol. I'm using clip studio paint and it's just a little.. intimidating. I feel discouraged, like I won't be able to do it. how did you do it tamelee? did you watch a lot of tutorials, or did you experiment until you figured things out? any advice you'd have for a beginner artist I'd really appreciate.

Hi Nonee! 🧡 Sure!

Oh I think that’s a very good place to start. As well as drawing subjects you like ^^! Hmm, tbh I’ve just experimented a lot, but I don’t think my way of having done things was the most efficient. You might want to follow tutorials step by step? You can try coloring only with flat colors until you feel a bit more confident with that as well as cell-shading (toon-shading/non-realistic, like in anime) instead of rendering further as that can all be confusing at first. I personally never truly understood shading until I studied cell-shading and made my art a lot more readable. A lot of Anime uses this;

You see how there is a base color, a darker color for shadows and highlights? (Sometimes not even highlights.)

When you start to study it from existing work you’ll start to notice things like color always being in the same area of saturation and when you suddenly have a color that is way more saturated than the other it can look off. (See example.) But this is a guideline, not a rule. In your own art you can especially use saturation and brightness to help aid you to direct a viewer's focus and even tell a story.

I LOVE ‘How to train you dragon’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’ for this because their coloring is so inspiring and if you truly want to learn from professionals... well those are the type of media to look for of course! I have an entire folder to inspire me just based on those.

Do you see how calculated those color combo’s are?!?! Here you see both analogous and complementary schemes and it is actually through looking at the things I like that I learned it >< The orangey colors stand out and are bright which helps you to focus on that area whereas the complimentary scheme is used to bring characters together.

If drawing Manga-caps is something you love to do, then maybe for coloring you can study screen-caps from Anime or even other animated films. I’d recommend to take it step by step, though I haven’t really applied it myself, from the video’s I’ve seen and artists I’ve followed it is always advised to have an art-goal that you can work toward. Maybe you first want to focus on lineart and then laying down a base color where the colors are harmonious and next would be cell-shading maybe and then you can start adding another light-source etc- eventually you can decide to create more depth or practice with monochromatic coloring, maybe even greyscale to learn values. But right away that can all sound a bit intimidating doesn't it? Find things that you like and then maybe you can open them in your program and just study. Find a brush you like, put on some music or a show on the background and for a moment play around with it without needing to create a finished piece. This is also how I learned how things like adjustment layers work or what all the different kinds of tools do. I have to agree with you, CSP is intimidating for me as well >< so this is kinda how I approach it as there are so many add-ons and additions within it but I try to only learn what I need for that moment so I don't overwhelm myself. I definitely try to find video’s that can help me with creating Manga though! ^^ There are plenty! It'll get easier eventually, you'll learn the program and you start to recognize placements for shadows and you will get a feel for the coloring- no worries 💪 Learning something new will always stay intimidating, every time I open up a new document I feel it too. It's not easy at all, but you kinda have to allow yourself to experiment and even make mistakes because practice is never perfect. I have some beginner tips written here- I hope any of this is somewhat helpful 🌷🫶

Kanade —> Clay: "An understanding and kind person. He seems very patience and always give some of us have time to open up. He doesn't come visit much but if he did, the others and I always notice him laying around the block in the Sekai... He seems to have a hard time..."

Mafuyu —> Clay: "Clay is... A weird adult. He didn't press much on asking me, he didn't scold me unless if it's involved my health. He have a lot of patience dealing with my bluntness, and he can also be blunt. To me, he is the most blunt one between both of us."

Ena —> Clay: "He is very patience to all of us. And very blunt... But that bluntness of his does have an honest.. We don't think he have a Nightcord because he doesn't know about that app or do have knowledge of it. So I always bring my art with me everytime he visits the Sekai, just so I could show it to him. His response is what I want to hear from my dad..."

Mizuki —> Clay: "It may not seem like it, but Mr. Clay seems to understand how my environment work. To my surprise, he have said to me his an orphan and he doesn't even know if his family abandoned him or just to save him. But that didn't stop him with how much he got criticism by other adults that told him he can't be something he dream of. And now, he proves them wrong."

Clay —> Kanade: "A very talented composer... She out of everyone else would be willing to do anything to save someone else, even if it might cost her life. Very soft spoken person and her singing is very soothing... Now I get why Miku think her music can reach Mafuyu over."

Clay —> Mafuyu: "The real reason why the girls here, and also the reason why all of them found each other's feeling the same... I have no opinion about her other than how blunt she is. But to put it simply, whatever her situation was, it better be fixed quickly before it got even worse..."

Clay —> Ena: "A talented artist who think her art may not be able to reach her goal, her validation... She shows me the art that she used for the Nightcord at 25's music video, and also an art she draw just for practice. I am not an artist nor do I understand art,but those drawing and line art, it's beautiful. She's very talented, what's the reason behind her doubt of her talent?"

Clay —> Mizuki: "A designer, Mizuki did tell me their sister is a designer and currently in overseas... I think Lance and them might get along, especially with a talent to make a clothes. They kind enough wanting me to have a clothes design for me. They didn't have to do that, it's not like, I can wear it much."

Rin —> Clay: "He seems very understanding and kind towards me and Len. Maybe because he thought we're a kids..? Though, I didn't bother much nor care about it... But I love how gentle and kind he is..."

But sometimes, he did come forward and ask me, if I ever thought of everything to help Mafuyu and the others. I give an answer and I saw an unreadable expression... Luka —> Clay: "He seems like an interesting fellow. If I have to give an honest opinion, he is kind and patience but I wonder, how can that patience last long? The last time I tease him about something, I can see how one of his eyes was twitching by the comments I made. Fufufu, another person to tease to doesn't seem too bad~"

Len —> Clay: "He is very kind towards me and Rin. Sometimes when I was having a hard time trying to spoke to him, since his the only one man the first I met, he was very patience and waiting for me to say something. He is kind and always help me try to get along well with the others, especially my twin, Rin."

KAITO —> Clay: "...He is lying. He is lying to them. He is lying to me. He is lying to himself. Everything is off, he is rarely visit, and the only time he did, it's to rest here... It makes me, so angry... At him, at them, at myself..."

Clay —> Miku: "She seems to really want to try helping Mafuyu find her true feeling. But she doesn't know if she should get involved with her problem. If it's alright to get involved? Or is it better to stay on the sidelines and wait for a turn to see everything herself, to see if she can do something to help Mafuyu. She's a kind person, just need a bit confidence in herself..."

Clay —> Rin: "As bold as she try to be, she's a kind person. From what I heard, she has help Ena before when I was busy. I am very grateful and proud of her. Even if she seems like she doesn't need anyone's praise and compliment, I can't help but give her one."

Clay —> MEIKO: "Forgive my honest opinion, but she's kind of apathetic... Showing no signs of wanting to get involved. And yet, she did try to help in her own way. She can be pretty tough person if someone ever try to strike a conversation with her, she either turn them down, or give a silent treatment..."

Clay —> Luka: "... I have no comments about her... She is a sly, cunning and a playful woman. But at the same time, she did help the girls at some point and did something for them... And yet, why am I the target of her teasing...?"

Clay —> Len: "A very kind and anxious kid. He seems to be careful of what to say and try not to make it awkward with everyone around. He always talk to me ever since he came, maybe because I'm the only man around? But I did try to encourage him to talk with everyone."

Chapter 3

Warnings: Fluff, angst, crying child, death of parent explained but not in detail, grief (I think I have it all but don’t hesitate to alert me if I’m missing something)

Chapter Summary: You and the Mandalorian come across a lost child in town and help them find their mother. The event brings some of your grief about your mother and your situation up to the surface, causing him to confide in you as well. The two of you share an accidental, special moment on the way back from an errand of yours, further spurring even more complicated emotions.

A/N: I had to sit and debate for a while on how to end this chapter, so I hope y’all enjoy it! I have some good ideas for chapter 4 that I’m dying to write out but I did my best to not let this chapter suffer because of it lol. The reception I’ve got so far has been so motivating and I really appreciate it. I really want to expand on Din’s character and do him justice.

“Getting in your quota of brooding for today?” You query Mando, standing with a strong gaited stance in the middle of the courtyard. As you approach him, his helmet faces you and nods. You chuckle, stopping briefly to smooth some wrinkles on the front of your dress.

It was a new day, and another one of presentations. You dreaded that, but you were more excited to see the Mandalorian waiting for you in his now usual spot.

You had specific goals today, though. After your obligations for the day are fulfilled, you plan to get to know Mando more. Hopefully, he reciprocates.

Before turning to leave with you, he sticks his elbow out towards you. You weren’t expecting him to offer again after yesterday, as much as it excited you. Your heart flutters. Instead of questioning it, as you almost did, you slip your hand back into the crook of his elbow. You figure if he didn’t want to offer it, he wouldn’t.

Something about him makes your head fuzzy and chest warm. When both of you arrive in the atrium, your hands linger for a few seconds before parting from him. You hum to yourself on your way to your seat. You’re too in your own head to notice.

Time went faster that day, which Din had gathered was much to your relief.

You’re now back at that same cafe you were at yesterday, a place that is quickly becoming your new favorite, apparently. The outdoor seating and the weather were perfect for this small escape. The two of you sat in silence while you updated your holopad with notes for today.

You tuck your holopad away and bring yourself to the present, shifting to face Din. He’s leaning in his seat, one hand stretched along the backside of the chair. He notices your gaze and tilts his helmet to acknowledge you.

“Yes?”

“I was wondering….” You look at him more intently, he feels his blood run faster in his veins. “If you could help fill the gaps in my Mandalorian knowledge.”

Din leans back more and hums, “what do you want to know?”

“When was the last time you took off your helmet?”

“This morning. I thought you said you wanted Mandalorian knowledge?”

You smile, “do questions about you not count?”

“Well, if that’s your logic.”

“That’s not a no!”

His memory flashes back to when he removed his helmet as he said goodbye to Grogu. His breathing stops momentarily, that all-too-familiar pang of grief creeping its way out of wherever he’d shoved it backward. He doesn’t notice his body language reflecting that, shoulders dropping and moving his hands to his thighs.

Your change in facial expression from smiling to concerned jerks him back to the moment and he decides to add more to satisfy your curiosity, “I can take it off in private, when I eat or bathe. Sometimes when I sleep.”

Your face becomes more neutral, he can practically see your brain working and visualizing. You’re probably imagining him without the helmet, as those who meet him usually do. He can’t blame you.

“I can tell it all means a lot to you,” you start. Your eyes reflect back something akin to admiration, “I knew you were capable, and seeing you defend me yesterday also means a lot. You’re really amazing.”

Din preened in your praise and you’d never be able to tell. No one speaks to him the way you do, and he’s starting to notice his natural gravitation towards you.

Mando indulges your curiosity for a good portion of the next couple hours, well into when Naboo’s sun was setting. Despite your original intentions, you sprinkled in actual questions you had about Mandalorian culture. As much as you wanted to know about him personally, you also didn’t want to go too fast or pry.

He explained the creed, the current state of Mandalorian life and how they’ve been forced to hide.

“Can you go to them? Whenever you want?”

Mando pauses, helm shifting to look away and then back to you, “it’s complicated. I have to find them again since the event on Nevarro.”

“I see.”

You shift in your seat and ponder on what you could ask next.

“Do Mandalorians ever have their own children? Besides foundlings?”

“Yes, plenty.”

“How….does that work?”

Mando immediately catches onto what you’re asking, it would be normal to wonder how intimacy works with Mandalorians, or at least those he was raised by, when they’re so strict about their armor.

“Being seen by your riduur and children is normal and accepted, in privacy.”

Your ears perk up at the new word, “Riduur?”

“In our language that means wife, husband or spouse.”

Your interest immediately peaked, it hadn’t really dawned on you how Mandalorians court each other. Or how they raise families, engage in intimacy.

“Do Mandalorians have weddings?”

“Not exactly,” Mando sits straighter, crossing his arms over his chest in his usual fashion. “We exchange specific vows in privacy, and remove our helmets.”

You’re actively staving off a heat that threatens to spread across your face while discussing this. You take a sip of your cup of caf that you’d been nursing since you sat down.

“That honestly sounds much better than what I’m typically used to,” you clear your throat. “At least, personally.”

Mando tilts his helmet to the side, “you’d rather it be private?”

Realization about the current topic creeps into your mind and that same heat settles onto your features. You suddenly feel bashful.

“Not that I’ve given it a lot of thought,” you play it off. “That just sounds more genuine to me.”

You can feel his eyes but refuse to look at him, you just know if you did the heat would get much worse. Time to change the subject. You turn to leave your seat.

“It’s getting late, should we make our way back to the palace?”

Mando nods in agreement, both of you stand to leave, walking out of the outdoor seating of the cafe.

Taking Mando’s elbow, you walk alongside each other in near silence, save for the usual hustle and bustle of the town’s street. It felt peaceful, with sounds of conversation and traditional music everywhere. You leaned into the Mandalorian’s arm, stealing side-glances of him.

“MOMMA??!! MOMMA!!!”

The shrill cry invades your senses, very close to you. You both stop suddenly, trying to listen to the source of it. Your eyes scan the crowd until you come upon a small child, their face covered in tears.

You quickly abandon Mando’s arm and approach the child, kneeling to meet them at eye level. The crying child lowers their hands from rubbing their teary eyes and you ask with a soft tone, “are you lost?”

The child shakes their head ‘yes’ to answer you. Mando is now at your side, kneeling alongside you.

Mando wastes no time, immediately asking, “do you know where she could be?”

The child shakes ‘no’ again, you glance at Mando with a worried expression. You hold your arms out to the child, asking permission to hold them. They quickly stuff themself into your arms, crying harder into the crook of your neck. You rub their back in an attempt to comfort them and look at Mando.

“We’re going to find her, don’t worry,” you coo while you cradle and shush them.

Mando stands, you follow whilst gently hoisting the child up in your arms and onto your hip.

You run a hand through the hair on the back of their head, prompting them to lift their head from your neck. Their face is covered in tears and snot. Without hesitation, you bring up a corner of the skirt of your gown and wipe their face, whispering softly to them that everything is ok.

“You see this man?” You jerk your head pointing to Mando. “It’s his job to find people. We’ll find your momma in no time.”

The child stares back at him, cheeks rosy and tear stained. They nod, meekly.

“That’s right,” Mando agrees. This seems to help calm the child, no longer hyperventilating as heavily. Their eyes glazed over from crying and a curiosity towards the two of you.

The Mandalorian places a hand on the small of your back and it sends a shiver through you. He notices, almost pulling his hand back until he feels you relax.

“Come on, before it gets too late.”

You nod in agreement, securing the child close to you. Both of you step back into the street in search of the mother.

For the next half hour you walk through the street, glancing through shops and corners. You’d look to the child here and there for confirmation, and they’d shake their head again. Just when you’d started to grow more concerned about finding their mother, you hear a cry from in front of you.

“OH! My baby!”

The child cries, “momma!” They squirm and you let them down, releasing them back to their mother, who's running towards you. They both hurriedly embrace, the sight brings small tears to your eyes, your heart tightens in your chest.

A look of relief washes over the mother’s face, she holds her child close and kisses their head several times. When she finally looks up to the two of you, tears in her eyes, she thanks the two of you profusely.

Mando must have noticed your own tears threatening to spill, since he steps forward while returning his hand to your back. He murmurs let me, under his breath but just enough for you to hear.

“It’s no problem at all. We’re happy to have helped.”

The child waves you off as their mother carries them away. You wave back, smiling softly.

“Are you ok?” Mando’s voice startles you out of the haze of your thoughts. When you look at him, a tear finally escapes and travels down your cheek.

“Whoa, hey!” He moves quickly, grabbing both of your arms at your sides and faces you.

“No no, it’s ok,” your voice starts to break, using the heel of your palm to wipe your face. But to no avail, more tears stream down and it feels like a dam has been broken.

“Doesn’t look ok,” he replies, moving both of you out of the street.

A heave travels through your chest although you fight it. You’re embarrassed to be crying in front of him, in public no less.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” you stammer through breaths and sniffle your nose.

“Don’t be,” his thumbs move up and down on either side of you, attempting to comfort you. You almost melt into it. “What’s wrong?”

“I just-,” you say in a low voice. “I think seeing them just reminded me of my mother. It’s nothing.”

“That’s not ‘nothing’ at all.”

Mando quickly looks around then back to you, “let’s get out of here.”

You do your best to compose yourself, as he moves to your side, hand once again on your lower back. His touch is still warm, despite the gloves. The small gesture is more comforting to you than he probably realizes, already visibly relaxing as both of you travel back to the palace.

You’re both back in the courtyard in front of your temporary home for the week. But instead of your usual retreat back to your room, Din motions you towards the bench in the middle of the courtyard. In front of the fountain, surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants indigenous to Naboo.

As you sit together, Din leans towards you. You’ve stopped crying but your eyes are still somber. It makes his heart in his chest clench to see you this way.

“Do you want to talk about it?” He asks.

Your brow furrows and you smile crookedly, “do you really want to know? It’s really no big deal.”

He doesn’t move, and neither do you. He can tell you’re looking at yourself in the reflection of his helmet. Your eyes travel and then stop.

“I do,” he finally says. And he means it, he needs to know what caused you to cry out of nowhere. He forces himself to practice restraint when trying to comfort you with his touch, although he’s realizing it only makes him want to do it even more.

You tell him about your mother, and how she died. She was very sick for a few years, not even the best doctors on your planet, and others your father had sought out, could cure her. You told him about her kindness, her love for you and your father. The beautiful relationship she fostered with your father, swearing they had to be soulmates.

“It’s a big reason I worry about my father,” you say. “He tries, but losing my mother took a serious toll on him.”

“Your motivation to step into his role makes a lot more sense now,” Din adds. You give a tight lipped smile.

“I told you it was complicated.”

You let that statement linger in the air between you. Both of you are still facing each other. You move your hand to his between you, softly placing it on top of his.

“Thank you.”

Din is almost too caught up in his own thoughts to respond. Seeing how delicately you treated that lost child, you sharing something so personal with him, awakened something inside of him. He considers moving his other hand over yours, but hesitates.

“I was a foundling,” he breaks the silence. “I was found and taken in by the Mandalorians.”

Your eyes widen, but you say nothing. He continues.

“My home planet, Aq Vetina, was attacked by the Separatists. My parents were killed by battle droids. The Mandalorians took me in, and when I was resdh, I took the creed and became one.”

Your eyes grow concerned and your grip on his hand tightens. You open your mouth to speak, but stop, searching for words.

“I wish I had more than platitudes to give you,” you say. “You’ve been through so much.”

Din’s heart is racing in the confines of his chest and armor. He’s not sure what kind of facial expression he’s making and it's a moment he’s glad he has the helmet to conceal himself, not that that exactly matters now. He’s decided to open up to you. It’s scary but also kind of freeing.

“I know it's two very different situations, but I know how you feel, to a point,” he adds. “Although, I can’t really return to my covert at this time.”

“What? What do you mean?”

He goes on to explain his life for the past few years. The Child, fleeing from the Empire. Having to eventually allow the Jedi to take Grogu with them. How he had removed his helmet for him, which now makes him an apostate. But he still searches for them.

Your eyes vary from troubled to intrigue, but that’s about as much as he can tell. His mind is running at full capacity, sharing the events in his own few words. Your hand never leaves his.

You give his hand a squeeze and smile, “thank you for sharing all of that with me. I can’t imagine what that was like, or how hard it is to recount it.”

“I think about it all, a lot…I’ve had time.”

“I’m honored, none-the-less.”

Din feels like he’s floating, and notices he’s leaning even closer to you than when he originally sat down. The two of you had naturally gravitated towards each other. But he shrugs it off, shrugs off the complicated feelings blooming in his heart.

“It’s pretty late now, I shouldn’t have kept you,” he says, straightening his posture.

“It was worth it,” you smile, lifting your hand from his. He finds himself already missing it.

Din stands, offering his hand to you. He doesn’t need to, but he wants to, and decides to let his heart lead the moment. You take it gratefully, using the leverage to lift yourself from your seat. This time, with his hand enveloping yours, he doesn’t let go. Not yet.

“I’ll see you in the morning,” he almost whispers, barely picked up by his helmet’s modulator.

“I look forward to it,” you return, he gives your hand a gentle squeeze and lets go.

He watches you approach your door, and you look back over your shoulder at him. He makes it a point to ensure you're always inside before he leaves.

“Mando?”

“Hmm?”

“I know I don’t have authority to say,” you smile. “But apostate or not, you’re a Mandalorian. And I’m very happy you’re here with me.”

The door closes behind you but he lingers, frozen in position. He squeezes his fists at his sides, contemplating the new development in this relationship.

This could be a problem.

The next morning is business as usual, sitting through the event’s activities and conversing with other royalty and political figures. Your social battery was quickly wearing out, especially when all you could think about was finishing up so you could spend time with the Mandalorian.

You’re beginning to notice that the thought of him is with you almost constantly. You even dreamed about him last night, although you can’t exactly remember the dream now. He probably had no idea just how enamored you’d become with him.

Just as you’re about to leave with him, an older gentleman approaches you. He explains how he knows your father and mother in the past, so you stay for a minute to chat. You tell Mando you’ll meet him just outside of the atrium.

Well, that chat took longer than you’d thought it would. Almost half an hour, to be exact. You rush back to Mando, ready to apologize for making him wait.

You see him, back facing you, on the side of the passage out into the garden courtyard.

“I’m so sorry Ma-“

Suddenly, he swings around to face you, placing left arm outstretched to block you. While leaning against his right arm resting on the other side of the passageway, his helmet turned down towards you. He is dangerously close; you would’ve ran into his armored chest if you hadn’t caught yourself before he swooped in to block you. For a minute it was silent, your heart raced and your breathing quietly stuttered. You hoped he couldn’t hear that, but you’d almost sworn you could hear his breathing too.

“I can’t just let you pass,” he finally says, tone with a playful lilt to it.

You quirk a brow at him and smirk, “Oh? And why is that?”

“You have to pay a toll.”

“What is the toll, then?”

He responds with a contemplative hum. You bar your lashes, peering into his ‘eyes’ and ask, “is this how Mandalorians flirt?”

Your unexpected question is blunt and just enough to make him freeze and tense up. You could see his shoulders slightly raise, telling you as much. Taking advantage of the moment, you quickly duck under his arm to exit to the other side, turning back towards him. He faces you, his eyes being met with your devilish grin.

He releases a breathy exhale and shakes his head, “Very cheeky of you.”

“Oh? Am I getting the wrong impression?” You laugh. He steps towards you, and unexpectedly, raises his right gloved hand and brushes his thumb across your cheekbone, “No.” then walks past you, an even bigger grin painting itself across his face, unbeknownst to you.

Now it’s you who’s frozen, face overheated, seeing that cold demeanor of his come down around you (and so far, only you) makes your head spin. You feel an echo of his thumb on your cheek, and slowly bring your own hand up to touch where he did.

Your banter with him, lately, had been progressively becoming smoother with him and it excited you. It felt like you were getting to see a more playful side of him. It was comforting to know he was choosing to show this to you, trusting you with it.

The more you’d paid attention to him, the more you understood him. He wasn’t an outwardly emotional person, he was guarded and kept in check. The beskar armor, of course, being the blinding shell that covered him. But you’d notice his body language, especially the more subtle things he does.

The way his hand caresses yours when it reaches out to you. The delicate but firm feeling of his gloved hand against the small of your back. The way he tilts his head in response to the things you say to him. Lately, even his voice has been having its moments. Like now, his tone is lower and more smooth while taunting you.

“Are you coming, Mesh’la?”

You fake a gasp, recognizing that subtle accent from when he shared some Mandalorian language with you yesterday. “What's that? I get a nickname now?”

You pad towards him, trying to catch up to his side. You peer over him as you both walk through the courtyard.

“Are you going to tell me what it means?”

“Why? And ruin my fun?”

You playfully slap his shoulder and loudly scoff, “you could be calling me something mean this whole time and I’d have no idea!”

A low chuckle escapes his modulator, “I guess you’ll never know.”

Looking forward, you smile, your heart is at ease with him. You wonder if he feels the same.

“I have some errands to run today,” you tell him.

Maybe….it’s time to start unpacking your feelings behind all of this. This? What is this?

It’s hard to be around him right now, because it feels like your heart might burst.

And every head tilt. Every flex of his bicep muscle while you hold his elbow. When he matches the energy of your banter. The feeling of his hand on the small of your back or arms.

When he literally brushed your cheek with his thumb.

It was intoxicating and dangerous. But it didn’t prevent you from partaking in it.

You laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling through the dark. Instead of sleeping you were busy remembering everything thus far from this trip. It’s hard to not feel like you’re living in some kind of dream.

These feelings are going to be hard to confront. You’re not in a position that allows for this indulgence.

Something that happened today especially replayed in your mind’s eye. During your errand run into town. And you just couldn’t help the hammering in your ears by the drum your heart was beating.

Mando escorted you to a small alteration shop near the palace. You promptly exited, looking over to see him waiting for you, casually leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest plate.

“That was quick,” he remarks, standing back to attention.

“Father dropped it off earlier today for me, so all I had to do was pick it up.”

“What is it?”

You flash him a grin, wiggling your brows up and down, “a traditional Naboo dress, for tomorrow night’s festival.”

Both of you strolled along your usual trail back to the palace. Night was starting to fall, and the sky was a beautiful fading orange as the sun started to set.

“When did you decide to go to that?” He questions, walking alongside you.

“This morning, I decided we’re going to play hooky tomorrow.”

Mando stops abruptly, you come to one as well turning to face him, “hooky?”

Your mischievous expression returns to your face, “yes, I decided I’ve earned at least one day to do what I really want.”

“Oh? And what’s that?”

“You and I are going somewhere I used to visit very often as a child, during the day. Then we will attend the festival at night in time for the fireworks.”

The Mandalorian sighs, exhaling a small laugh in combination, “what does your father think of that?”

“He agrees and supports me,” you all but wink and smirk. “So don’t worry, I’m not getting you into trouble.”

He hums back almost playfully then shrugs his shoulders, “alright, you call the shots.”

You chuckle and press the garment bag of your dress closer to you, turning on your heel to continue walking back.

But you miscalculated, twisting your feet wrong and tripping before you can take a full step forward. You start to feel yourself fall until a solid hand grabs you just in time, twisting and bringing you close.

It’s sudden, and before you can process it, your eyeline is met with the ink black of Mando’s visor only inches from your face. He had managed to grab your upper arm and swing you into his embrace before you could fall.

Your breathing is rapid, heart pounding like mad in your chest so much so you can hear it in your ears. One of his hands has your right forearm as his other arm is wrapped around your mid back almost to your waist, gloved hand settling on your rib cage.

The two of you are silent for what feels like hours, but is really only minutes.Time feels like it’s stopped as you study his helmet and your own reflection in it. You’ve started to realize the position the two of you are in, and heat crawls up your chest and base of your spine.

This level of physical contact is sudden and unexpected, but not exactly unwanted. His arms are deft and strong, he holds you slanted against him effortlessly. The rise and falls of your chests almost seem to match up, bringing them closer to each other like you're caught in his own gravitational pull. Save for the garment bag squished between both of you.

He feels warm. You’re sure he can sense your heartbeat. He has to, right? But he doesn’t say anything about it.

“Are you ok?” His modulated voice comes through the helmet, breaking the spell of the moment.

You snap back into focus, “uhm, yeah. Yes. Thank you.”

Still holding you, he moves you to stand securely next to him, loosening his arms and hand. You almost whimper at the loss of pressure and contact especially when he parts from you.

You did your best to carry on like normal after that, up until parting from him for the night. But it played on a constant loop in your mind.

You want him to hold you again. You want him. You realize that now.

a lot of the aus i have in mind are just broad ideas like several mermaid aus, rinharu as parents, an idol/celebrity au and so on. these one’s are a bit more in depth (the violet au especially) though, so i’m sorry if this is kinda lengthy lol

breaking bad au - the tachibanas are struggling financially so haru who wants to help them (and is pestered by rin) turns to cooking meth. it’s been a while since i last watched the show but i imagine haru starting out bored with his life and feeling stuck. it’s after he begins cooking with rin that he feels a sense of accomplishment and he wants more. this one’s not too focused on romance, but there’d definitely be moments between rin and haru if i ever decide to do anything with it.

grey’s anatomy au - instead of swimming everyone is a surgeon with haru specializing in general and rin in neuro. they’re some of the best in their field and have built a name for themselves as well as their hospital. they’re constantly pushing one another when it comes to their work, sometimes get into heated arguments when discussing what’s best for their patient, and spend a lot of time in the on-call room together 😏

pokémon au - again, pretty much the same but instead of swimming, it’s all about pokémon. rin convinces haru to become a trainer like him with the goal of one day being the regional champion, he leaves to get stronger, hits a wall and quits after losing to haru. of course they reunite and after they’ve reconciled, the two work toward their shared dream of becoming champions. i don’t know too many pokémon so i can’t say for sure what their teams would look like but for haru i like to imagine that he had an eevee as a kid that eventually evolved into a vaporeon. also he has a thing for the ugly and/or useless pokémon like feebas and magikarp.

maid dragon au - haru works a typical office job and on his way to work, he’s greeted by a dragon outside his apartment named rin who is shamelessly head over heels for him. the two start living together with rin taking care of all the household chores and smothering haru with his affection. as time goes on and other dragons from rin’s world come over, haru finds himself enjoying the company and even begins to return rin’s feelings. while they’re adults in this au, their dynamic is similar to when they were in elementary school and over time becomes what it is now.

violet evergarden au - ever since she was young all haruko has ever known is to kill. as a young adult she’s given to rin to use as a tool and nothing more, but he wants more for her and dreams of showing her a life outside of the military. after the end of the great war and losing both arms, haruko is taken in by the nanase family and begins working as an auto memories doll at a postal company owned by makoto. it’s through writing letters for others that haruko slowly learns the meaning behind the words “i love you” and begins to better understand rin’s feelings as well as her own. debating if i want their reunion to follow the light novels or the movie, either way the two do end up together in the end. this one’s my personal favorite so i’d love to draw out some more stuff for it in the future! i’ve even gotten somewhat into floriography because of it and have a list of flowers to associate with each character for this au

Hey there. Do you have any tips on how to stay consistent with writing, and how to stay focused on the task at hand?

Hi anon!

So firstly, I've answered versions of this question quite a few times so you might want to go into the 'Pia on Writing' tag because they'll be there.

A quick look has found:

How to write more words regularly - This one is good for just...straight up practical advice.

But I wanted to speak frankly which is - what works for me might not work for you! We all have different strengths and weaknesses and depending on how we orient towards writing depends on what those weaknesses are. For example, I need to learn how to take more breaks and rest more, and not write as much. The 'writing a lot and sometimes too much' comes pretty easily to me these days.

Not all writers are meant to be consistent writers. I don't have a daily habit and I haven't written anything at all in a week and a half. I have my monthly wordcount and that's it. Someone else might need to write or edit every day, in order to not lose sight of their projects. Someone else might need five intensive days a month. It will depend on their nature, their personality.

Not all writers have the same reasons behind why they can't stay focused on a task. I have ADHD, but I can also hyperfocus on characters and a storyline. Others have ADHD, and cannot hyperfocus on their characters or storyline long enough to finish a story. That's a problem I don't know how to remedy, because I don't have that kind of ADHD, so I've never had to 'solve' it before. Some writers are perfectionists which hamper them, I am not a perfectionist and I'd rather the thing be out in the world with some flaws, than on my computer talking to no one. I need the dopamine more than I need something to be perfect. So you see anon, sometimes the things that impact us just aren't universal, which means you need more specific advice. There will be perfectionist writers who will have lots of great advice, there will be ADHD writers who get bored of a story who have great advice. :D

What I will say is that pretty universally, writing consistently and staying focused are both like muscles in the body. I'm where I'm at today because I've had 9-10 years of practice doing this, and when you start out (which the above link addresses) you will need to aim more realistically and reasonably, and start there.

It's also worth having a really grounded sense of why you want to write more consistently / focus more on your writing. Is it for fun? Is it because you want to finish a project? Is that project something you'll feel good if you finish or are you over it? Is it because you want to make an income? (Have you considered there are approximately 40 billion easier ways to make an income?) Is it because you just want to see if you can do it?

Sitting down and thinking about your motivations here will help motivate you if you can keep your goals in mind. And it will also help clarify what you get out of writing in the first place.

Re: Staying focused. It depends on your distractions. I use music, that helps me. That might be terrible for you. I make sure I'm eating well - the brain needs carbs and fats, and my whole body needs protein and fibre - so I'll have a decent breakfast before starting out. Sleep is important. Drinking regularly is important. There's very basic things here which seem obvious that help a ton with concentration, but if you're not doing them, they're a good place to start. You'd be surprised how much just 'eating balanced meals, drinking regularly and sleeping enough hours' helps with concentration. Like, so much.

A friend of mine uses the Pomodoro method (that would drive me nuts), there's using write-ins like Twitch streams to basically 'body double' with other people who are writing at the same time (I find this very motivational). There's gamification like 4TheWords (love this site). There's 'I get to have a cookie if I write another 200 words.' There's 'actually I've lost focus because this part of the story might be broken and if I just do this the river will start to flow again' as a writing technique.

Mostly, you'll need the time and space to just amass the number of techniques you need to help with both focus and writing regularly. But in all of this, it's vital to be patient with yourself. You can't expect yourself to take a week to end up somewhere that someone else took 3 or 4 years to get to. And it won't be...consistent. Don't side-eye me or anything, but like, we're not meant to be machines, even people who write relatively consistently (like me) need breaks, get burnt out, get tired, are over it, and sometimes need brand new techniques to start working again. Knowing that it's not a linear upward curve of ever-increasing focus lets you also just...be compassionate and patient with yourself.

Oh yeah, because you'll have to get good at both of these too anon. :D Learning discipline and being firm with yourself can't work successfully if you also then mentally punish yourself for not doing it 'well enough' to the point where you don't want to do it anymore. Cultivating the 'I'll try again tomorrow' or 'I did great today!' parts of your brain help a ton with consistency. If you know you're going to be kind to yourself for doing well, and firm but compassionate with yourself when you don't, all of this gets way, way easier.

Was watching sneezys video on K/A v Z/K and wondered slightly off tangent why you (and ill admit that I) never took redcrackle as a red herring pairing? Was it just preference for enemies to lovers or ? Is it because they have meat to them that seems it actually might resolve in a romantic fashion (if xyz reasons and behind the scenes wasn't in the way)?

Prt 2 of the sneezy x rc because to clarify i always wondered why being like they are (not having the same values and always having to leave each other instead of coming together) didn't make you see it as a k/a or m/z?

So I actually answered an ask similar to this quite some time ago, though the framing was a little different--I was asked if I agreed that red crackle was maiko 'done better' and my answer was kinda wordy but I think it boils down to this:

I think a big part of it is that Carmen Sandiego started out giving you the sense that these two characters genuinely loved and cared for one another in the 'childhood friends' portion of their past. ... The thing about maiko is... it was entirely one-sided from the very beginning. Shippers will sometimes try to sell you on them being 'childhood sweethearts', but they really weren't--Mai had a crush on Zuko, to which he was oblivious,...

...

Gray and Carmen, on the other hand, were established as rivals who quickly became best friends over the course of their year in school together. They clearly cared deeply for one another, and Gray was just as upset as she was when Carmen failed their final exams ... They didn't see each other for three years (incidentally, the same length of time between Zuko's banishment and meeting Mai again), at which point they were enemies, and yet Gray was clearly upset at the prospect of having to hurt her.

...

Carmen and Gray both grew as characters separately and together--Mai never grew at all, being the exact same person in her last appearance as she was in her first, with the same beliefs and no indication that anything about her worldview had changed, and this is especially egregious when she was paired as a love interest with the character who arguably had the most dynamic growth throughout the series.

Ultimately, my problems with maiko (and kataang) were never that the characters involved had diverging morals or goals, or that they spent significant portions of time separated--those are things that could make for juicy romantic development if given adequate time and page- or screen-space to grow and add to the tension between them until it eventually boils over. The real issue is that neither of these ships actually sold me on the mutual development of their romantic feelings or relationships.

And actually, maiko and kataang both share the problem of one-sided interest being established and nothing being done to make the journey from unrequited to requited love seem believable for the characters who did not originally share these feelings. Aang's crush on Katara is abundantly clear from the beginning of the show, where he hatches from his ice egg and imprints on the first girl he's ever seen in his life like a baby duckling. Katara is entirely oblivious to his interest in her even when he tries to act upon it (take the Cave of Two Lovers, for example, where they kiss to light their way forward and Aang seems flustered and clearly wants to talk about what just happened, but Katara seems to feel nothing except relief and excitement that their plan worked and she can now find the way out), until quite late in the series when, after Aang rather aggressively projects his own feelings onto her, she suddenly seems to reciprocate. Likewise, it is established in a flashback that Mai had a crush on Zuko, but there's zero indication given that he ever noticed her feelings, much less returned them (which makes sense given that he was ten years old at the time and she was his sister's friend and helped to torment him), and no care or attention is given at all to his feelings towards her in the present until suddenly they are dating at the start of book 3.

Then with maiko you have the added issue of nothing ever being done to resolve their stark differences in worldview. At the end of The Boiling Rock, Mai turns on Azula to save 'the jerk who dumped [her]', not because she suddenly realized she was wrong and the Fire Nation needed to change. And at the end of the show you have evidence that Zuko had completely forgotten about her (despite the fact that he could quite possibly have thought she died defying Azula to save his life, and never once seems to think about her again afterwards), and they just... get back together. Because reasons, I guess. Because Mai says 'I guess I kind of like you' and that's supposed to be a good reason for two people to get back together despite none of the things that made their relationship untenable in the first place having changed.

On the other hand, Gray goes through an entire arc on the show after getting his memories back where he comes to realize that working with VILE was not worth losing Carmen, and it wasn't worth Carmen losing herself. And while you could certainly make the argument that at the end of the day he was still saving Carmen because he loved her (however you interpret that love; I personally view it as romantic but obviously the show did not choose to make any specific Carmen-centric ship canon in the end), not because his own moral center had shifted away from the villainous, I would counter that taking a stand against VILE was a clear indication that he had discovered something that was worth more to him than his criminal inclinations. And there was actually a relationship there to serve as a foundation, plus the obvious potential for him to join Team Red in the future and use his skills for good rather than evil.

I have always been a proponent of the redemptive power of love, incidentally. I think that one of the most beautiful forms of redemption is choosing to change because of love, because the act of falling in love and recognizing that love is inherently transformative. Because love changes us and makes us want to be better versions of ourselves. (Or sometimes worse, I do love a good corruption arc too but that's a different topic.)

But the thing is that I ultimately need to believe that love exists in order to buy its power to redeem. I never saw any reason to believe Mai and Zuko were in love beyond very surface-level indications of attraction and an otherwise shallow relationship where they never seem to connect on any deeper level--and not for lack of trying on Zuko's part, here is an excellent essay about their lack of emotional intimacy. Carmen and Gray, meanwhile, had a close friendship and deep emotional bond which persisted through Gray's forced amnesia and that changed him enough that he let Carmen go and then took steps to get her away from VILE after they captured and brainwashed her, branding himself a traitor and risking imprisonment or death to do so.

You can't just skip the part where the story shows us how and why a couple are in love or might have fallen in love and then try to convince me that they are and this isolated moment of sacrifice embodies it. You've gotta put in the work! And atla ultimately fails to do so for either of their main canon ships. (Zutara on the other hand..... but that's another essay. Cough.)
