I actually really don't want to hear anything about how 'overcoming misogyny' is a major theme in Avatar: the Last Airbender when "The Fortuneteller" exists and the ultimate thesis of that episode, in the context of the show as a whole, is that if a girl is in unrequited love, it's cringe and kinda pathetic and she should move on cause the boy will never want her; but if a boy is in unrequited love, he just needs to be patient and wait for the girl he wants to come around cause he's a hero and how could she not?
Its secondary thesis is that you need to make your own destiny and not rely on someone else's words to tell you what your life has in store...if you're a BOY; if you're a girl then what the fake psychic told you will actually determine your ENTIRE life even if you are only fourteen years old.
Meng's existence really would have been the final nail in the coffin for Kataang even if the arc of the ship in Book 3 weren't so abhorrent to me personally (sorry but I have higher standards for romantic relationships than 'the girl is completely oblivious to the boy's advances for the entire show, is actively distressed when those advances become more pronounced, and then her feelings are resolved completely off screen between episodes so that the boy can get his prize in the end')--because her relationship with Aang is deliberately paralleled to Aang's relationship with Katara, and yet Meng, the one-off character, learns a lesson which Aang is quite literally told he must learn in the Book 2 finale... but he never ever does.
Aang has an entire season to internalize that lesson and come to terms with it--that maybe she doesn't have feelings for me and that's ok because I still love and care about her and that's enough--but he never even comes close. His possessive attachment to her gets worse, culminates in the EIP kiss, and Katara just capitulates because we're meant to believe that she went through the entire development of her romantic feelings for the love of her life off-screen between the penultimate episode and the four-part finale.
This was misogynistic even in 2008, and the idea that the show truly had anything meaningful to say about sexism/misogyny when uncritical and unchecked misogyny was baked into its very DNA (assuming we're meant to agree with Brychael that Kataang is 'in the DNA of the show) is just laughable to me. When it comes to 'overcoming misogyny' the show doesn't actually say anything more profound than 'girls can fight too!!!!!'
And that wasn't good enough for me then, it certainly isn't good enough for me today.

Buck and Eddie having separate arcs because they’re separate characters, especially when this is literally the season of “missing what’s right in front of you/already having everything you want and just needing to recognize that and commit to it/not being able to appreciate the life you have the way it is”? I am SHOCKED, I say, to see gambling in this establishment!

Lady Destra’s concept/reference art from the artbook! As the disclaimers note, I don’t speak Japanese, so even though I spent a good amount of time making sure the captions were accurate, there’s almost definitely some stuff I got wrong (especially in the longer sentences). Take everything with a grain of salt!
Additional notes beneath the cut:
One thing of particular interest that came up in my research was that note next to Benedict. The first line reads as “Secretly” and the second + third seems to be this phrase:
Tumblr media
It seems like it has a variety of meanings, including potentially romantic ones, but I’m not sure contextually how to read it. I went with “caring for” as a hopefully middle-of-the-road sort of option.

Yet again grumpy about all the Drew Starkey stans in the Hellraiser 2022 tag going on about how hot he is and how his character Trevor is actually secretly the main character, you guys.
Yeah, I’m greyace and YMMV, but I didn’t find him attractive at all.
I very much Do Not Care about how his intro scene was him fucking the female protagonist. YKINMK.
Y’all aren’t Hellraiser fans, so get out of my goblin cave with this straight normie nonsense; you're just here for your pretty boy actor.
From what little we saw of it I’m not even convinced the in-universe sex was good.
Again, any old-school Hellraiser fan could've told you from the get-go just what sort of role Trevor would play in the story due to the previous films (and how the reveal was very much not a surprise), but y'all aren't here for that.
Look, I know "Just Here for Godzilla" is a trope for a reason and I don't exactly have a leg to stand on here considering I've watched the fourth Wishmaster movie solely for the actor who plays the Djinn's human form (while knowing full well this was a horror movie and he'd played a similar role previously in Charmed 1998).
I'm just annoyed. You come into my movie fandom based very much in queer kink culture, with the Cenobites originally being explicitly based on the leather BDSM community of the 1980s (with the author being an openly gay man who worked in S&M clubs and was a male prostitute during the height of the AIDS epidemic), and instead squee and fangirl over a basic human white dude who has utterly bland, vanilla, heterosexual sex.
Miss me with that.

It is creepy how you support old men going after barely legal girls
it's much creepier how you insist on calling an adult woman who's been through college once already 'barely legal' like she isn't twenty-two at the YOUNGEST but ok lol
anyway, if you don't like fictional age gap relationships, why are you here? that's my bread and butter, some of us like DILFs, go away

Was This the Best Season of RHOSLC?
Tumblr media
It seems like RHOSLC is always on shaky ground.
This was the first time they could prove themselves without the drama with Jen Shah, and it was a success.
It was undoubtedly their best season yet. It was a funny, engaging, and entertaining season that’s highly rewatchable.
And I’m saying that without the scandalous revelation of Monica Garcia being behind the troll account Reality von Tease in mind.
The finale was like another being in itself and I judge it separately from the season.
The women wanted to prove themselves as entertaining housewives without the nonsense with Jen, and they might feel sabotaged by Monica.
It’s understandable if they feel like they’re back to square one. Once again, a scandal erupted that became larger than life, and they’ve got to live up to it.
And they never will live up to the hype that will follow this.
It’s the same thing with Vanderpump Rules. They will never live up to the excitement with Scandoval.
Rumor has it that Mary Cosby has signed a contract with Bravo to return as a housewife next season, but can it be true?
They stopped inviting her to events when they realized she wasn’t going to participate in any activities, and her only link with the show was through Monica.
In my opinion, it’s a shame that Monica won’t be coming back next season. This was a great season, and she was a huge part of that.
On Two Ts in a Pod, Tamra Judge and Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave argued that Monica should get some of the credits for this being the greatest season ever for RHOSLC.
This is the perfect example of how brining in someone new can truly shake up the dynamics on the show. It was a fresh start with brand new arguments.
But are the women on RHOSLC able to see what’s good TV or what’s good for the show?
If they were producers in their minds, they would invite Monica back.
However, the betrayal run so deep, it’s difficult for them to see past the troll account. It’s a shame.

Let’s be totally clear: when Buddie goes canon it will be because the people who make the show are dedicated to telling the best possible story for the characters they love, and it will be IN SPITE OF all y’all who harass them every five seconds about queerbaiting (which they are not and have never done) not because of you.
