People just actively refusing to be accomedating to disabled people both physically and mentally frustrate me so God damn much. Yes it is shitty behaviour to actively choose not to do this when given the option to. If your friend is struggling to walk and out of breath you wait with them until they have energy to keep going. If someone is struggling to stand on the bus and you can give them your seat without any harm to yourself you do that. If your flatmate can't enter the kitchen because their OCD is making them paranoid about contaminatipn from the dirty dishes then clean the dishes you were going to eventually clean anyway. If your friend with ADHD loses something then help them look for it without shouting at them.

you know, when i made that post about judge judy, i was really thinking about pedro pascal. ive been his fan since i was a child watching my mom watch law & order and buffy. i grew up thinking people on tv stayed that age (i didnt understand the concept of time) and i was utterly disappointed to find out that he did not wait for me (he didnt stop aging and wont sleep outside his age range, which i guess makes him a good person? but like cmon? its me? the literal love of your life?) if he would have me, i would take care of him in old age. change diapers, give medication, bathe him. i would remind him every day of who he was, every reason i love him, and any memory i could think of to remind him that hes human. that he deserves to be here just as much as anyone, else even in sickness.

now that ive basically wrote out my wet dream, bye! love you!!

There’s been a lot of back and forth recently about AI, especially for things like fan writing. And I’ve seen a lot of, “well, it’s not for money and fanfiction is free, so what’s the problem?” from people who don’t seem to understand the issue. For fanfiction, part of it’s plagiarism, sure, taking credit for an algorithm’s work, but part is also how deeply insulting it is to use AI for a creative enterprise, especially someone else’s fic.

I’ve been grappling with how to explain it, because it seems like there are people who just don’t get it and it’s hard to put the visceral insult of it into words they might understand. It’s not a compliment, it’s not flattering, it’s really, really rude.

What it comes down to, at least for me, is that when you feed my work into an AI, what you are saying to me is that my work is no better than something spat out from autocomplete.

You are saying that the thought I put into the characters, the plots I plan so carefully, the words I spend hours agonizing over, are meaningless to you. You are saying my writing is just a fill-in-the-blank. Anyone could do it! Even a brainless computer algorithm!

As someone who does put in hours of thought and planning, multiple rounds of editing, and agonizing over every turn of phrase, to have someone turn around and brightly say they think an AI could do just as well is a massive insult.

I’d honestly rather hear that you despise my writing than hear you happily tell me that you consider formulaic, AI crap its equal. Like that’s supposed to be a compliment.

Please stop putting people’s fic into AI. I genuinely can’t think of a worse insult to the work and to the author. If you want more fic, comment! Talk to the author! See if you can find other authors like them! Try writing your own fic (without AI)! Engage! Communicate! Join the community, like the rest of us, and put in the effort to be honest, caring, and genuine.
