part 2 of runaway bride stevie! modern au, exes to lovers, transfem stevie harrington pt 1
Eddie Munson is not having a good day.
His phone died last night so his alarm didn’t go off, his bassist is sick so their gig tonight has to be canceled, and his last three Uber rides have stiffed him on a tip.
He accepts a request from some dude named Scott with a terrible comb-over in his profile picture and gives himself two seconds to bang his forehead into his steering wheel in frustration with a closed-mouth scream. Then he dials it back so he doesn’t seem absolutely fucking insane. He can see the suit he’s about to escort to some fucking meeting even though he’d rather be doing any-fucking-thing else, and he pastes a fake smile on to greet him. He’s gearing up to fall into the usual routine of this godforsaken job, but then it all goes a little sideways.
There’s movement from the corner of his eye, and then a blur of a body is slamming into poor Scott from behind, shoulder checking him and almost sending him careening onto the sidewalk. The dude pinwheels his arms like a cartoon character, suit jacket puffing up around his shoulders awkwardly, expression so baffled it makes Eddie snort despite himself.
“Oh, shit,” he mumbles, and he’s reaching for his seatbelt to see if the guy needs any help - he looks like he might break a hip if he hits the ground - but then a whirlwind of white fabric swoops into his backseat and a loud, desperate voice yells "DRIVE!" in his ear, and he sort of just thinks 'sure, why the fuck not,' and slams his foot on the gas.
The car fishtails a bit and the tires squeal as he swerves into traffic, horns honking after him, and he picks a direction at random, going way too fast for this area of town.
His heart is pounding in his chest, worst case scenarios running through his head. He’s going to get car jacked. He’s going to go to jail for being an unwitting getaway driver. But there isn’t any more yelling from the back seat, just heavy, panicked breathing, and he settles into traffic and slows down to a more normal speed before he cuts his eyes up to the rearview mirror.
Time stops.
It’s Stevie.
He can’t believe he didn’t recognize her the second he saw her, but in his defense, it's not like he was expecting to see his ex-girlfriend in a goddamn wedding dress running like she stole something today.
Pure panic wraps tight around his throat as he takes her in - is she hurt? In danger? Nothing good could have had her sprinting away from her own wedding, but it seems like she’s just shaken up.
His heart calms a bit once her tears dry and they get properly on the road.
And shit, it’s so unfair, because she's just as breathtaking as she was the day they split. She looks just as sad, too, which is certainly not how a woman like Stevie Harrington should look on her wedding day. But seeing her in a gown like that - Jesus Christ. His heart squeezes painfully in his chest. It’s like something out of a fantasy, seeing her in the exact kind of dress she used to whisper to him about wanting, the kind of dress he’d once promised to marry her in. Of course, they fell apart before he could even get a ring on her finger, but it still sends his stomach swooping to see the future they’d spoken about come to life.
“You’re sure you’re okay?” he can’t help but ask, glancing over his shoulder at her.
“Yeah,” she says, voice high and a little squeaky. “Yeah, I’m totally fine. Just in my ex-boyfriend's car after I left my fiance at the altar, it’s all fine, it’s chill.”
“Okay,” he says haltingly, delicately, because Stevie Harrington is not the kind of person who says it’s chill, “it’s just that, you know, all of that sounds decidedly not chill.”
“This is so chill. It’s the chillest I’ve ever been, actually - hold on–” she says, and next thing he knows a swirl of silk is blocking his view and he sputters a bit as the train of her dress smacks him in the face, but she’s clambering gracelessly from the back seat and over the console to plop down on the passenger side with a loud huff and a cloud of perfume.
It’s different from what she used to wear. She used to smell spicy and warm, with notes of amber and cinnamon. He’d kiss the little spots in her wrists where she’d spritz it on, trace the veins beneath the tan skin with his nose to keep the scent of her with him.
Now she smells like vanilla and something floral, airy and light. Like he stepped into a bakery. It’s not bad, of course it’s not bad, but it’s…different. Not her.
Or not his version of her, anyway.
This is someone else’s Stevie now, and she smells like fucking cookies instead of home.
Instead of commenting on it, he just tells her to put on her seat belt, and she looks at him like he’s an idiot.
“And wrinkle this dress?” she says, her nose curling a little, and God she’s such a bitch and he’s missed it so much.
“I hate to break it to you,” he tells her, “but some wrinkles are not the worst damage that thing has seen today.” There are small grey splotches on the bodice where her makeup dripped as she cried earlier, and the hemline has some muddy staining from her mad dash on the sidewalk. It’s not ruined, but it’ll have to be cleaned, and a couple of wrinkles will be the easiest thing to get out of the formerly pristine fabric.
He glances over at her in time to see her run her hands over the skirt of the dress, smoothing it out over her thighs. It shifts, the leg slit parting to show her skin, teasing at the hint of a crease where her thigh and stomach meet, and Eddie rips his gaze away to stare at the road instead.
“Probably for the best, anyway,” he says, and he feels her eyes latch onto his profile.
“And why’s that?” she asks, and he smirks.
“Well, pure white? C’mon, Stevie, we both know that’s a lie.” He flashes her a wicked grin and she makes an outraged sound, but a small smile is teasing at her mouth even as her cheeks flush.
She kicks off her heels - red bottoms, because of fucking course they are - and slouches in the seat. She pushes herself up, adjusting in the pile of silk and corsetry she’s been strapped into, and he sees the absolute mountain of a rock on her hand, and manages to bite his tongue about it being the gaudiest thing he’s ever seen.
"So who was the lucky guy?" Eddie asks before he can stop himself, and the glare Stevie gives him could cut glass. “Or lucky woman. Person? Far be it from me to deny you your bisexual rights.”
He probably sounds like a jealous asshole, but he can't help it. He's the getaway driver for his one that got away on her fucking wedding day, and he feels like he deserves to ask a few questions.
His hands tighten on the steering wheel as the silence lingers, but eventually, Stevie just groans, letting her head fall back against the headrest dramatically.
"Don't laugh," she demands, and Eddie shakes his head.
"Scout's honor," he promises, and he swears a wry little grin teases at her lips.
“You were never a scout. You would have been kicked out for inciting a riot.”
“Hey, I just ensured we all earned our arson badges, okay? I did every one of those kids a favor.” Stevie scoffs, and it almost sounds fond.
Then she says, “Tommy,” and he almost swerves into oncoming traffic.
"HAGAN?" he says, louder than he means to, and her hand flies up to grab the oh-shit bar.
“Eddie, Jesus!” she says, glaring at him, and he shakes his head, focusing back on the road.
“Sorry, sorry,” he says, but fucking - really? “Really?” He can’t help himself. “Tommy Hagan?”
“Yes, really, Tommy Hagan,” she says hotly, like she’s defensive, like she didn’t just leave the schmuck at the fucking altar.
“Well that explains the ring, at least.” She reaches over, smacking at his arm, which, thanks to the aforementioned ring, is probably going to bruise. “Hey, ow!” He glares at her, taking a hand off the wheel to rub his bicep. “Watch it, that thing’s a weapon.”
“Then stop sassing me about it,” she snaps, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms and her face falls into that adorable bitchy little pout he’s always fucking loved, and he looks away again.
He can’t help but glance back over at her left hand. The ring is…certainly something. Giant, square, one big diamond surrounded by other, smaller diamonds, with even more diamonds on the band. It looks heavy and cumbersome and like she’s going to smack it into every wall and door and get it caught in her hair and seriously, he’s pretty sure he’s already got a knot forming on his arm where the thing hit him.
It looks like Tommy walked into the priciest jewelry store he could find and asked for the most expensive ring they had.
It looks like a status symbol.
It doesn’t look like her.
“Apologies, highness,” he says, shaking himself free of his thoughts. It’s not fair to hold her to those standards. He hasn’t spoken to her in years. He can’t know what kind of person she is now.
But there’s still a bone-deep knowing that overtakes him at the feeling of the woman next to him. A sense of deja vu so strong it threatens to knock him over.
A different car, a different time, a different circumstance, but the same person. The same love.
He’d picked a direction at random, but as the streets become more familiar, he realizes he’s heading towards his place. It’s as good as any, he figures, and he shifts lanes, reaching to tap on his phone and shutting down his Uber account.
“You know, I almost expected you’d still be driving that beat up old van,” Stevie says suddenly, and he crows a laugh.
“Ah, Van Halen, you served me well until you almost blew up on the highway,” he says fondly. “Lost her about a year ago. It was tragic. I held a funeral.” She laughs again, shaking her head.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less,” she says, turning that pretty smile his way, and his heart does a somersault.
“That was a very impressive move back there, by the way,” he tells her, “that shoulder check of that old defenseless businessman?” He whistles. “Haven’t seen anybody move that quick to steal an old man’s ride before, really, it should have been documented.”
“Oh my god, shut up,” she says, but there’s a laugh in her voice, and she brings up her hands to press to her pink cheeks. He can’t help but keep digging.
“No, seriously! And sprinting like that in heels? And in that dress? What’s that thing weigh, like twenty pounds?”
“It’s a dress, not a suit of armor,” she tells him, but her smile is growing, making her eyes crinkle.
“Just saying, it was pretty metal,” he shrugs, and she snorts.
“Well, you would know,” she says, and he ignores the way his face flushes in response. She gives a little sigh, wiping below her eye and frowning at the smear of black on her fingers.
“Here,” he says, reaching across her. His arm brushes her leg as he opens the glove box and he’s so fucking normal about it. He pulls out a few fast food napkins, holding them out to her. “No makeup wipes in here, but that’ll help with the worst of it.”
“Thanks,” she says, and she flips the visor down, tapping a napkin to her tongue to wet it before wiping at the mascara tracks running down her face. “God,” she groans, scrubbing at a particularly stubborn smear, “I look like a raccoon.”
“A very cute raccoon,” he says before he can stop himself. Jesus, Munson, dial it back. “Like the raccoon that’s about to get the best trash in the bin, she doesn’t even have to ask for it.” Stop talking. “The other raccoons are just gonna give it to her, on account of how cute she is.” He’s gonna throw himself into traffic.
“Did you just call me a raccoon on my wedding day,” she asks. Fine, commit to the bit.
“You called yourself a raccoon on your wedding day. I was just agreeing with you,” he replies, keeping his eyes fixed to the road.
Her eyes are on him - he can feel her stare burning into the side of his face, and his cheeks are going pink and blotchy and God, he’s an idiot–
And then she laughs. Not her polite little contained laugh, either, no, this is that loud, wide mouthed laugh that she hates, that makes her shoulders shake and her head fall back. It’s squeaky and hearty and a little obnoxious and he’s always been so obsessed with getting her to let it out, and he can’t help the smug beaming little smile he gives at the sound.
“You’re such an ass,” she says through her laugh, and Eddie can’t help but laugh with her even if it’s at his own expense, because at least she doesn’t look so goddamn sad anymore.
When they finally reach his apartment complex she’s a little more subdued, but the look on her face isn’t totally heartbreaking, and he’ll take what he can get. He comes around to the passenger side to open her door for her and helps her gather the dramatic skirt of her dress to keep it off the pavement as they head towards the stairs, and he knows he looks like an insane person as he carts a bride down the hall, but he just smiles at his nosy neighbors and lets this cement his reputation as the weird as fuck off-putting metalhead he knows they all think of him as.
He feels a little self conscious as he opens the apartment door for her, sweeping an arm dramatically to allow her to enter first. For the first time since she swept into his car, he wonders if this is a good idea. But it’s too late now – Stevie’s giving him a little smile and stepping into his home, and part of him knows this was inevitable. She may not have called him, but he was always going to come if she needed him.
He follows her inside and tries to calm the pounding of his heart, watching her take in his space, struck all over again by her beauty and the impossibility of her standing here, and silently prays he isn’t going to fuck it up all over again.
this was almost even longer, but I figure 2.5k is enough for a part 2! no tag lists, sorry, but part 3 will be here at some point. thank you to everyone who's had a kind word to say about this au these two are very near and dear to me 💕

bee , could you talk about your stella / hansen family in general head canons... i saw it in your tags once on ao3 and now im curious
It’s like 3 am so apologies if this isn’t coherent or is just a scattered mess. Also most of these are not very happy sorry
- Stella n Bryce’s relationship with their mom was. Rocky for a long while. She was kinda one of those folks who just wasn’t really cut out to be a parent. She didn’t dislike em, not by a long shot, but it took her a long time to deal w her issues enough to really be a proper parent to them, in a meaningful way.
- the three of them did eventually reach an ok place though. There was still a definitive distance, but when bryce was like a sophomore in high school or so they started reconciling a bit
- I maintain my old headcannons that the extended hansen family is Big. He has like a billion cousins but he hasn’t seen the majority of them in years. I do think he tries to reconnect with some of them at least like wayyy after one is over tho.
- bradley is like. A family friend on stellas side. She was closest with him but eventually he grew into almost a second sibling to bryce after a while
- they lived in the suburbs outside hartford. Can’t be bothered to look up where specifically so just pick the absolute most middle ground neighborhood possible
- stella absolutely taught him how to drive and she did so approximately fifteen minutes before his drivers test
- at some point bryce became the one in the house who cooked, mostly cause he was the only one who was particularly good at it. For a brief period of time, probably when he was like a senior, the three of them would sorta bond over it as he tried to teach stella n his mom how to not suck at it.
- at one point in that process, not long before stella died, his mom gave him a couple of old family recipes, scribbled on napkins and receipt backs and the like. This was the most solid ground they’d ever had up to that point. He still has them. He refuses to make any of them.
- stella died like three days after he graduated high school, give or take. If I wanna get really specific, and also kinda mean, she died durning a graduation party someone was throwing for him and a couple other kids on the block who’d also graduated. Total freak accident
- To say it put a damper on his relationship with his mom is putting it mildly. About a week after stellas death, Bryce and his mom has a really really nasty fight, both about her death and just about eachother. Lot of poorly-aired grievances and not-so-nice things were said, resulting in both bryce storming out of his own volition and his mom in effect kicking him out. He went south to crash with Bradley for a while, who was (and still is) living around bridgeport. He and his mom haven’t spoken since.
- he was thinking of going to community college. That didn’t happen.
- probably should’ve mentioned this up too but there’s no dad in the picture really. He vanished for one reason or another before bryce was even born rip
- his mom. Is aware of what happen on the smokestack. And she feels. Some sorta way about it I’m sure.
#these are most of the ones that are relevant to losing and finding I think? which is the only fic where I mentioned having hcs about this#I think#skimmed over stellas exact cause of death but it was a car accident. as is the popular interpretation#some guy was going a bit too fast and had to swerve not to hit a critter or somethin. lost control and there you go#maybe it’s just because of how I tend to approach bryces family dynamic but I don’t think his mom was like. an intentionally shitty person#when he was growing up. in the sense that like. she did care about them both genuinely but she wasn’t a caretaker by nature and wasn’t good#with her own limits.#combined with very suddenly becoming a single mother and falling back on a few old vices and things went a bit topsy turvey#I don’t know if that’s how you write out that expression but still#it took time for her to learn how to really. be there. how to be a proper parent to them. and when she did she never really owned up to the#mess so much as she just tried to build over it. she kinda denied it for a while (which is at least in part where bryce gets his denialism#from)#and while eventually she got a bit better at owning up to being a bad parent and such it was never really enough. it was never gonna be#enough#I don’t know if any of that made sense. I’m very sleepy and in my head their relationship is Very Complicated#to say nothing of his moms relationship with stella oh man#we know this woman Exists and that’s it but I’ll be dammed if I don’t hammer together some sorta messy character out of her#I have hyper-specific family headcannons for the whole scentdapack trio#and also charlotte n taylor tho I’d have to think about those a bit more lmao#ask#ask to tag

48 with Eddie pls 🥹
dusting this off for some nice eddie fluff (i guess this is hurt/comfort, too). i took the prompt and manipulated it just a bit, but hope this is still to your liking! <3 (cw: car accident, hospital) gn!reader
tending to your lover’s wound, placing a kiss on top of their head, grateful they’re still alive ___
The emergency room is practically empty. A youngish man in scrubs greets you at the front desk.
"Can I help you?" he asks. He seems to check you over, wondering what you're going to admit yourself for. But that's not why you're here.
"My boyfriend is here?" you say, voice turning up at the end as if maybe you've got this all wrong. As if Wayne didn't call you to say that Eddie had been in a car accident. As if you're going to wake up any second from this nightmare.
"What's his name?" The nurse's eyebrows draw together in concern.
"Eddie. Eddie Munson." Your voice catches and you swallow frightened tears. Wayne had said he was fine, just a broken arm and a few cuts on his face, but still. You've been in too many hospitals with Eddie to be calm.
"He's here and he's fine," the nurse says, his eyes soft and voice gentle. "He's resting though, and it's after hours --" You clench your fists. It's not this guy's fault, you tell yourself. Rules are rules, no matter how bad you want to see him.
"--but I won't tell anyone if you won't." A sob escapes at his kindness and he tells you the room number. You walk as fast as you can around the desk, eyes on the walls to make sure you don't miss it. He's fine, you tell yourself. But you have to see it to believe it.
You're so focused that you almost smack right into Wayne in the hallway. "Woah," he says, hands on your shoulders. "You made it." He's calm and that makes you calm down a little. "Go on in," he tells you.
As soon as you lay eyes on Eddie, the weight lifts from your shoulders. He's laid out in a hospital bed in a drab blue gown, head turned away from you to look out the window. You can see the white plaster of the cast encasing his left arm.
"Eddie?" you say. Your voice sounds loud in the room. He whips around to face you and you see the butterfly bandages over a gash on his forehead. His right eye is bruising and his lip is split but he smiles wide, hardly wincing. He looks tired.
"Sweetheart," he says. "You here to play nurse?" You don't reply to his flirting as you all but run over to the bed and grab desperately at his uninjured hand.
"I--" you stutter. "I--you--Eddie, I--" His thumb strokes the back of your hand.
"Breathe, baby," he says gently. "I'm okay. That old van airbag did her job." The way he's comforting you when he's the one in the hospital bed makes a few tears you've been holding in finally leak from your eyes. You sit down heavily on the side of his bed, wondering how much you can touch him without hurting him.
"Are you okay?" you ask, even though he just told you he was. His face does something funny like he's trying to decide if he should lie to you or not. But, as usual, he folds under your gaze.
"Sore," he says. "They gave me some painkillers for the arm but they're not the fun ones because I'm not very loopy. No concussion, but I got these pretty scrapes from some glass." Your free hand lifts of its own accord to ghost over the wounds. "I'm not gonna break," he says. "You can touch me." He leans his cheek into your hand and sighs.
"What happened, Eddie?" It's maybe the most normal reason he's ever been in the hospital and you can barely believe it.
"Deer. Ran out in front of me and I swerved and hit a tree. Airbag caught my arm at a bad angle and the windshield shattered. Someone drove by almost right away and called 911. Guess I'm just lucky like that." You make an affirmative sound, not trusting yourself to speak. "The van is toast, though." He pouts.
"I'm glad you're okay," you whisper. "Wayne called and he told me you were, but I just couldn't help but think the worst."
The pout turns to a frown at your lingering distress. "C'mere," he says, tugging on your hand. You gently lean towards him, and he presses his face into your neck as he breathes you in. You drop a kiss onto his hairline, letting yourself linger.
"God, you smell good," he mutters. "This whole place reeks of stale farts." You let loose a weak laugh and he keeps going. "Hey, I bet we can find you a nurse's outfit somewhere around here. Then you can really take care of me, yeah?" He nips at your exposed neck and you scoff.
"I guess you really are fine if you're coming onto me right now," you say, pulling away. He's grinning and you can't help but grin back.
"I am," he says. "Now what's a car crash survivor gotta do to get a kiss around here?"

Concerned Demon Bros | Poly! MC | Obey Me |
A/N:
I was too lazy to edit this so apologies for any mistakes.
I also tried to make it platonic or romantic so I hope I did a good job of that?
@beels-burger-babe
—————————
You were awfully tired today but after remembering the tests you had today at RAD, you decided to just trudge through the fatigue and change into your uniform before grabbing an energy drink and putting it in your bag
"Oi, MC! Hurry up, we are gonna be late!"
"I'm coming, Mammon!" You summon all your energy to walk the fastest you could, which wasn't really fast, unfortunately. The second born saw how slow you were being and walks over.
"Are ya okay?" He asks, slight concern lacing his voice.
"Yep, I'm just a bit tired" You chuckle awkwardly. "Could the Great Mammon carry me?" You ask in a teasing tone, which made his face go red but he just shook his head and gingerly picks you up, and with his speed, you guys ended up in the RAD halls in just minutes.
He lets you down and you squeeze his hand before backing away, feeling fatigue hit your body once again. "Isn't there a student council meeting?"
"Oh right" He cursed under his breath. "See ya later!"
With that, he left, leaving you alone in the halls of the academy. You sigh, feeling your shoulders become more heavy. Thankfully Mammon dropped you off near your first class, which was Devildom history, so you didn't have to walk too far.
While you were walking, you swerved clear of someone who almost bumped into you but in turn you fell hard on your side. You winced, noticing that your arm took the fall and now it hurt and probably would for a while. Regardless, you got up and, now limping a bit, continue to walk to your class.
Meanwhile with the brothers, a few seconds later, being a bit delayed, they all felt the surge of pain in their arm and side. Lucifer, who was speaking, hissed a bit at the pain, Mammon seemed to of flinch and quietly curse to himself, Levi winces at the pain, Satan hisses at the pain as well and checks his arm for any actual injury, Asmo let out an quiet "ow" while the twins jolt a bit from the pain.
The meeting continued as normal after a few seconds or so of silence but all the brothers were really concerned about their human.
Eventually, class ended and you were walking to the courtyard, you were trying to keep your balance but fatigue was starting to get the best of you as you already chugged your energy drink. The pain has numbed, but a small bruise started appearing. While walking past the student council room, you accidentally ended up bumping into someone, it knocked you back but that someone caught you.
You yawn and quickly apologize before looking up to see Beelzebub has grabbed onto you, having a concerned expression on his face, with Belphegor beside him having somewhat the same expression.
"Ah, hey you two" You greet in a groggy voice, rubbing your eyes. Suddenly you were pulled into another direction by Asmodeus, who started fussing over you.
"Asmo!"
"MC, are ya okay?!" You look around to see the brothers around you. "I'm alright Mams, don't worry" You assure the avatar of greed, who too, was fussing over you. Asmo eventually found the bruise you so sloppily tried to hide.
"Of course someone thinks they could get away with hurting you.." Levi murmurs. "Who did it?" He asks.
You sputter, before shaking your head. "No one did! I was walking to my first class, someone almost bumped into me and I swerved, which made me fall down" You explain. "I didn't sleep well last night because I had tests to study for" You admit, sighing.
"Why didn't you ask me for help?" Satan asks, working on healing the bruise, even if it was just slightly.
"..I didn't want bother you..." Satan must of added some energy boosters into the magic because you felt slightly more energized than before.
"Why would you think asking for help is bothering me, or any of us?" Satan asks.
"You all seem so busy and--" You couldn't even continue before the gentle giant pulls you into a hug, trying to be careful as to not suffocate you
"..It may not seem like it always, but we will always put you first, no matter what." You could hear how serious Beel was, so you simply smile and hug back. You two separate and you were suddenly, but gently pulled into someone's chest as they held you securely, as you realized it was Lucifer, from the smell of coffee, you ease up and hug back.
"I'm glad you aren't severely hurt." He mumbles. "You don't by chance remember who almost bumped into you, do you?"
You realized if you told them the person would be in a heap of trouble, and you doubted it was intentional, if it was, you dodged out of the way, so really it was your own clumsiness that made you fall. You shook your head because not only that, but you were too tired to recognize the face.
"Hm.. Alright." You were picked up by Beel and  Lucifer crosses his arms.
"Since you are tired, I will allow you to have a day off, I will talk to your professors about moving your tests to a later date." You nod, not arguing that you were getting a day off, only a little frustrated that studying for tests ended up being your downfall.
"Do we get a day off?" Mammon asks.
"No."
"Aww... c'monnnnn!"

Sonic Forces AU Role Swap, part 1
Since Wholesome Sonic and Tails Wednesday is over, time for some Sonic and Tails angst! Going back to Forces, there was something Eggman could have done that would be much more painful than keeping Sonic in a cell as he took over the world. A blow to the heart in the worse way possible.
What is going on? How did this happen? Those were the questions going through Sonic’s head as he was being repeatedly attacked by his assailants. He didn’t even have time to defend himself. Being hit around like a pinball. Finally, he was slammed into a wall, landing hard on the ground.
It was five on one, against some of the toughest opponents he ever faced. How could anyone stand up to that alone? And how were they all here? Wasn’t Chaos at peace? And why would Shadow join Eggman again? Sonic tried to pick himself up, but the pain dulled his strength. He could feel himself slipping into unconsciousness.
“Sonic!”
The sound of Tails’ voice helped Sonic cling to staying awake, though his vision was still fading. He saw the mysterious figure land in front of him. Who was this guy? How did he move like that? He began to walk towards Sonic…
“Wait!” Eggman’s voice was unmistakable. Oozing with his snarky confidence after that beatdown of his greatest foe. “I have an even better idea.”
“Hey, let me go!”
Sonic got his second wind when he heard the fearful shout. He turned his head, only to see the masked jackal grab Tails by the throat.
No! Not him! Get away!
He tried with all his might to get up, weakly reaching out his hand towards his best friend. But as soon as he got that little bit of energy left, he lost it. Nothing but a horrifying site fading to black, with the most heartbreaking cry he ever heard.
“SONIC!”
—————
His head was pounding. His body ached. It took great effort to just open his eyes. All he saw was blurs, including a large pink one to his left.
“Sonic! You’re finally awake!” Amy cried. She wanted desperately to hug him, but restrained herself due to his condition.
The blue hedgehog struggled to sit up, but managed to.
“Take it easy,” Amy warned. “You’re still hurt.”
Sonic looked around, now that his sight had come back. He looked like he was in some kind of old hospital. “Where are we?”
“It’s a building east of Central City,” the girl explained. “We needed a secret place to regroup and plan.”
Sonic raised an eyebrow. We? Why meet in secret? This was just raising more questions, and making his already throbbing head hurt more.
“Glad you’re not down for the final count.” Sonic turned his head to see a red echidna leaning against the door. Knuckles… wait, Knuckles?!
“Knux! Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be on Angel Island?” Sonic’s question lacked his usual sass, he was still too sore for that.
“I was,” Knuckles began, “but then Silver and I were attacked by Chaos. We realized something big was happening on the surface, so we got here as fast as we could. We got word you were in a huge fight in the city, and found you out cold.”
“Silver’s here too?” Sonic was always happy to see his friends, but Silver wasn’t really one for casual visits. It usually meant something bad, not that Sonic ever held that against him. “Seriously, guys. What is going on?”
Both Amy and Knuckles averted their gazes. They clearly didn’t want to talk about this, but Sonic needed answers. He threw the blanket off and swerved his legs off of the bed. Pain followed suit.
“Sonic!” Amy reached out to grab him.
“You should rest,” Knuckles advised.
“Not until I get some answers!”
Seeing they had no choice, Knuckles offered to take Sonic’s arm over his shoulder, supporting him as they walked. Amy led them into another room. There was a large computer against one wall, and a lot of containers. It looked more like a warehouse than a base. Silver and Espio were looking over the screens. When they heard the door open, they turned around.
“You alright, Sonic?” Silver asked as he approached.
“I’ll live,” Sonic casually commented. He’s been through worse, and he always was a fast healer. “It’s good to see you again, Silver, but I have a feeling this isn’t a friendly visit.”
The future hedgehog lowered his head. “I wish it were. And I wish I could have arrived sooner. My time is in jeopardy again. But rather than some fire monster, it’s… this.” They all turned towards the monitors. News spread over every screen, cities being attacked by Eggman’s robots, enemies, and more. “The damage happening now will be carried on into my future. Where the aftermath of the Eggman Empire still lingers on.”
Sonic removed himself from Knuckles’ support. He slowly limped closer to the video footage, his disbelief increasing with each step. “You’re saying Eggman… wins?” Maybe it was just the concussion, but none of this felt real. How was this possible? Sonic tried to think back to the fight before, his mind still felt jumbled.
“We’ve already contacted the Chaotix,” Knuckles explained, which was obvious with Espio there, “but we haven’t had much luck contacting Team Dark. We’re trying to spread word to any of our friends out there to stop Eggman. Now what about Tails?”
The mention of the name snapped Sonic back to reality. He felt a cold shiver down his spine.
“He was with you, wasn’t he? Where is he now?” Sonic’s head began to spin as Knuckles continued to talk. Memories began to flood back.
“He was…” Sonic began to mutter. He saw the figure before him, how his foes clobbered him. “That thing…” The last thing he remember was Tails in the clutches of… “…it took him.”
“What did?” Amy asked. She noted the shaky tone in Sonic’s voice, which was unlike him.
“That thing in the mask. With Eggman. He… he took Tails!”
“What?!” The others all looked at him in shock.
“I-I was right there, but I couldn’t… there was too many. Chaos… Metal… Zavok… Shadow…”
“Wait! Shadow’s with Eggman again?!” The rage in Knuckles voice was obvious as his desire to punch something right now.
“That makes no sense! Shadow wouldn’t do that!” Amy was so sure that the black hedgehog had changed. Why would he do this?
As the group kept asking questions on what was happening and what to do, Sonic didn’t hear a word. He was too busy trying to reel back in his overwhelmed mind. Eggman was taking over the world, and Sonic couldn’t stop him. He couldn’t take on so many opponents. But worst of all, he couldn’t protect his little brother.

Backwoods: 7. Screw Up
The smoke was starting to cloud their lungs. Each mutant did their best to cover their nostrils whether it was an article of clothing or their hand. Leonardo, somewhat immobile and trying to assist Mikey in holding him by grabbing him back, dug his face into the back of his mask as cover. Even coming from the inside and now outside, the smoke was still prevalent and damaging. Donatello was already on the shell-cell, however Casey was more than ready as he swerved up to them with his eyes wide open as they were fixated on the burning building. All six mutants piled into the truck in a messy fashion.
“What happened to ‘stealth’? Where’s Splinter?” He yelled as he switched gears and started to gas up.
“Dude, we’re hurt! Get us out of here!” Mikey yelled as he sat down in order to let Leonardo down. Leo winced in pain from his ankle and brought it up so that he could try to examine it while it sat in his hands. This hurt more than any sprain or twist he's ever had. The leader bit his lower lip and took a deep breath. Upon its release, he looked around to his team.
“I can’t believe they got me again.” Venus groaned. She held her side in a similar place where the Foot had harmed her with a pole years ago. Mona moved her hand, which was covered in blood and replaced it with a cloth she had found.
“At least it isn’t as bad as it was before.” Donatello commented.
“Oh, Donnie!” Mona exclaimed. Venus took over holding her side with the cloth and let Mona attend to him. She inserted pillows behind him as he was slouched against the side of the truck and tried to keep him stable.
“How many of you are hurt?” Leo demanded. Donnie took a short breath in order to aleve the pain.
“I have a fractured or broken rib.”
“How the shell did they get my nose!?” Raphael yelled angrily. He sat up front with Casey who was making his way to the much smoother streets than having to toss the wounded warriors any further. The brute outlined his nose with his hands as it slowly dripped down to his lap. “Ain’t shit to hit!”
“We still have cartilage.” Donnie commented. So much did Raphael want to say something back in anger, but using his facial muscles were not helping his nose problem. He quieted down and tried to lay back in the passenger seat. Leonardo was mortified. He had no idea that his team was wounded.
“Are you ok, Mikey?” The young turtle turned over with his eyes up to the ceiling.
“I’m still winded from when that chick tripped me. She was worth more trouble than I thought.”
“Yeah, so was the one I was fighting. They were incredibly strong for such small women.”
“That’s what we get for underestimating the enemy.” Mona chimed in, still holding fast to Donatello so that he didn’t shift too much. “Where do we go from here? We have no Splinter, the “no-plan” didn’t work, and we’ve got real injuries. It will be near impossible to get all of you back down without causing further damage.” She referred to how not only was it already going to be a challenge to move their big, injured bodies all the way down and past the sewer system, but their way home was designed to show some athleticism to get to it.
“I think you guys should go to the police station.” Casey suggested. “We’re nearby and maybe they have ideas for you all.” Leonardo nodded.
“Ok, take us there. Can we also get April to meet us there?” Mikey reached into his pocket.
“On it.” He dialed the number and put the shell-cell to his ear as it rang. Leonardo breathed with some relief as some of his team members were taking the initiative to fix this situation but he was also stuck on himself.
Mona was right. He didn’t make a clear plan and only did it on the go. It was very uncharacteristic of him, but he knew why it occurred. Leonardo was so focused on getting his father back that he was clouded. It didn’t matter what exactly they did as long as they were able to get Master Splinter back. Now look at him. He was injured, his teammates injured, caused a crime scene and still without their goal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Doctor, I’m fine. It’s my family who needs all this help.” Mona stomped in frustration as the in-house physician checked her over.
“I understand but you may be experiencing symptoms that are unseen right now. Adrenaline is easy to mask this.” They explained as they felt around her arm, looking for pain.
Casey had brought them safely to the police station. Since they called ahead, the back was cleared out from those who had no clearance and the mutants were escorted into a board room. Mona sighed as she let them continue their job and gave vague answers to their questions as she looked at the rest of her family. Leonardo was sitting on a sturdy table. He had a depressed expression as he stared down to his now booted up foot. The turtle had a broken ankle. A small woman really broke his ankle. It was unbelievable! That was running in his mind on top of his own thoughts of carelessness as a leader. Venus was sitting on the floor all patched up from her side. In her lap was Raphael, whose nose was also patched up but since he was experiencing a major head ringing Venus had him laying face down in her lap (her crossed legs keeping his nose from being touched) and used what she called her “healing hands” in order to relieve him. Donatello was still being checked out, but they could hear that he received a fractured rib in his midline and they were going over aftercare for his treatment.
Mikey came back into the room holding April’s hand. Casey sprang up from his chair to greet her.
“So, uh…” Her expression paused his train of thought as she looked up to him. “What are we doing?” Mikey put a hand on the man’s chest to move him back.
“Hey dude,” He lifted up the arm that still had April’s hand in his. “She’s with me.” The woman smiled to herself and shook her head.
“I mean what are we going to do about this? Your injured brothers.” He replied snarkily. Mikey nodded and sucked his lips into his mouth.
“They can’t go back down home and they pose too much of a risk to stay at police headquarters. It’s way too often that civilians come around here.” April explained. Mona overheard and took a step towards their direction.
“We’re going on vacation!” He told her, which was much to her dismay as she was taking this far more seriously than him. Upon seeing this and not wanting any further ridicule going towards his misunderstanding, she pushed the young turtle behind him.
“You guys are going to my family’s old farmhouse. We haven’t been there in years, no one visits, and you’ll be safe.”
“How safe?” Mona questioned.
“You won’t be in the city anymore. All wilderness so you’ll be alone. You’ll be some miles away from where Yujin and Nan are. That’s how far.”
“See, a vacation plus your pretty ponies!”
“Mikey! It’s a safe space for all of you to heal up and rehabilitate. Is donating supplies for you all, casting and bandages, everything. Even if you run out, we’ll make the drive to deliver.”
“You’re not coming, babe?” Mikey stuck out his bottom lip.
“I have a job here. And I refuse to let Angel be alone for however long I’ll be gone.”
“I won’t have my babe or my bestie?!” he cried “Why don’t you just leave me at home?” Mona grabbed his arm.
“Because it is our responsibility to heal this family. We are the only ones who aren’t hurt. This is a job for the both of us and it’s also the time to show how responsible you can be.” Mikey slowly nodded as he realized this was going to be one of his more defining moments as not being a screw up.
“Ok.” he agreed. April seemed impressed too. Double points!
“We can ship you guys out of here as soon as they are done examining everybody. Casey, they’d like to start loading up supplies into the truck. Would you like to drive it over to the nearest hospital?”
“I’ve got it.” With that, he left the room immediately.
“Angel is already heading to the sewer and I’ll be meeting her there. If there’s anything in particular that anyone wants, just text us, ok? We’ll be grabbing clothes, blankets, anything essential.”
Mona stuck out her arms to which April walked into a hug.
“Thank you so much. We really appreciate it.”
“You guys are my family. Nothing I wouldn’t do for you all.”
Tumblr media
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck,” your words were stressed as you slammed on the breaks. The rain made it hard to see; it wasn’t your fault that the animal had run into the middle of the road. You weren’t even going that fast, they should have been able to hear you.
You flung your door open harsher than you meant to, but you had to move quickly in case someone came speeding down the road, and you ended up bleeding out right next to whatever you had hit. The road was slick underneath your feet. You almost slipped and fell as you skidded to a stop in front of them. It was a racoon, a fat one at that, and it was staring up at you with big doe eyes. His leg was twisted, and he was letting out small grunts of pain.
“Oh, I’m sorry, little buddy,” You cried. “Can I pick you up? I’ll find somewhere to take care of you, I promise.” You hadn’t really expected an answer- it was an animal after all – but he nodded up at you, reaching his little paws out in hopes that you would help. You paused for a moment, taking in the situation and trying to figure out how to pick him up without hurting him.
You reached an arm under his butt and the other under his neck so you wouldn’t jostle his leg too much. He made little chirping sounds as you steadily walked over to your car, using your head as a shield so he wouldn’t get rain in his eyes. You let out a quiet stream of ‘I’m sorry’s as you did so. You made it into your car just in time to close the door as someone sped down, narrowly missing you as they went.
The little racoon shivered in the passenger seat, but you covered him in blankets and spare clothes you kept in the back, turning the heat in your car on high, trying to dry him and heat him up at the same time. He stared up at you thankfully as you put the car in gear, driving home even slower than before, never going over twenty-five-miles-an-hour.
Once you had reached your apartment, you had to sneak him in in hopes that your shitty landlord wouldn’t notice. He had a strict no animals policy, but this was a bit more important. Fortunately, you could sneak past his office by telling the raccoon to be quiet, since he seemed to be good at listening to directions somehow, and hiding him underneath the pile of clothes, passing him off as laundry.
Finally, inside the comforts of your apartment, you laid him down on the couch and set to researching what to do. After a few calls to a few vet offices and a lot of google searches, you were able to give him a makeshift cast and lay him in a way that would be best for his recovery. He was still talking in his little racoon language as you went. It really looked like he was trying to tell you something, but unfortunately, you were human and could not understand him.
That was until he held your hand in his little paws and pulled them to his neck. How had you not noticed the skinny collar he was wearing? His thick fur had almost completely covered it. Really, it wasn’t even a collar but a thick piece of cord with a circle nameplate in the middle.
You fiddled with it, reading the information attached. ‘Contact Judd. 555-4200’ was engraved onto it in someone’s personal handwriting instead of with a machine. “You know it’s illegal for someone to own a racoon around here, right,” you told him. The racoon made a noise of disapproval and fiddled with the collar again. “Do you want me to take it off?” He hissed in displeasure, making you stop abruptly. “Call him?” He nodded enthusiastically. “You’re a strange little guy, you know that, right?”
You pulled out your phone and dialed the number, tapping your foot against the floor anxiously. It took a few rings, and you were sure he wouldn’t pick up, when a deep voice answered the phone.
“Do you know what fucking time it is, right now?”
Your breath caught in your throat, and you turned towards the first clock you could find—three o’clock in the morning. “I- I’m sorry. I can call back in the morning if you want. I just have this racoon with me, and his ankle is twisted because I accidentally hit him, and he had your number on his neck, and I- I-“
“Racoon?” His voice cut you off, and you could tell that he was waking up at the information. “You hit one of my fucking racoons?”
“He ran out into the middle of the road when I was driving. It was raining, so I could barely see, and I couldn’t swerve to miss him because there was a car on one side of the road and trees on the other. I wrapped his leg, and he’s resting, but he wanted me to call you, so here we are.”
He let out a few grumbles, and my fingers instinctively rose to my face so I could bite at my nails. “Fucking hell. Why was he in the middle of the road?” It was a rhetorical question, but you had almost wanted to respond even though you didn’t have an answer. “Does he have any distinctive marks on him? A missing toe, clipped ear, maybe he has uneven stripes.” Your eyes fell on the racoon again. He looked pretty normal besides the leg.
Almost like he knew what you were talking about, the racoon pulled one of his hands up to his forehead. After you pushed some of his fur to the side, you knew what he was pointing at. “He’s showing me that he has a scar on his forehead - like he split his forehead or something.”
“Of course it’s fucking Gerard – the fat fuck.”
You frowned at the statement. “He’s not that fat.”
“I mean the sentence in the most loving hatred filled way I can mean it. He knows I don’t mean it. Can you give the phone to him?”
This was the weirdest fucking situation you had ever been in. “Oh yeah, I guess.” you placed the phone in the racoon’s hand, and he made a chirp as a hello. You could hear Judd’s voice lowly in the speaker as he talked to him, the racoon making noises of acknowledgement as he went. You could make out very little besides him asking if you were taking care of him and then berating him for being stupid. The racoon – well, Gerard – kept trying to talk to him, but Judd refused to let up, barely giving him a moment to speak even if he did understand him.
After a few minutes, Gerard pushed the phone towards me, and I took it back. “So, what do you want me to do with him. Like, I can take him to yours, since I guess he belongs to you, or-“
“Fuck off. What are you – the feds? Give me your address, I’m not letting you see my shit.”
“Well, usually people ask me on a date before seeing my place, but-“ the words had slipped from my mouth before I thought about what I was saying, and my eyes immediately widened with embarrassment. “Oh my god- I’m sorry-“
He laughed loudly and pulled the phone away from his ear. “Well, we can think about that after I get the fat fucking faggot in your house.”
Your arms crossed. “You better part of that community if you’re using their slurs, fuckface.”
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” he mused. “Give me your address. I’m getting in my car.”
After giving him the information, you hung up, itching at your arm as you stared at Gerard. “He isn’t very nice, huh,” you told him. He chirped and shook his head as if defending him. “Is he really mean or is it a front?” He chirped at the second part, and I smiled. “Well, he’ll be here soon.”
And soon it was. It only took him about ten minutes before you heard a loud knocking on your door, banging more like. You jumped from sitting beside Gerard to the door, peeking out into the dark hallway, the latch still connected. “Judd?”
On the other side of the door was a decently tall man with black and blue hair, his sides shaved til it was only stubble. He was clad in a gray hoodie and black jeans, gray converse on his feet. His face was set in a glare as he stared at you. “Who the fuck else would it be?”
You shut the door and unlatched it, opening it wider so he could come in. “You knock like my landlord.”
“Landlord?” He pushed into your apartment, his sights set on the racoon lounging on your cheap couch. “You don’t look old enough to have a landlord.”
You rolled your eyes. “I’m nineteen. This is my apartment.”
He glanced at you over his shoulder. “And you let some strange man in? Pretty stupid if you ask me.”
You frowned and pursed your lips. “I can kick you out- keep your racoon if you don’t start acting nice.”
“You could definitely try.” He picked up Gerard’s leg, inspecting it. “You did a good job with this. Almost as good as my work.”
“He was a good patient.”
Judd scoffed, sticking his hands underneath Gerard to pick him up just as you had earlier that night. “He was probably just basking in a pretty girl’s attention.”
Pretty? A smile was climbing onto your face. He was pretty, too, if he didn’t have such a sour attitude.
His eyes fell onto yours as he turned. “I like your hair by the way. The color suits you.” You ran your hand through your dyed hair, suddenly very conscious of how you looked. “You should try blue next time.” Gerard made a loud noise in his arms and reached out to you. Judd frowned down at him. “You had your fun, dumbass, but you’ve got to go home now. I’m sure the others are worried about you.”
“Others?”
Judd looked back at you. “Yeah, I was – uh – training a battalion of racoons to kill my younger brother.” He groaned quietly. “Now they’re good for catering and attacking intruders, but they refused to hurt him. Got a few scars because of it.”
You chuckled quietly and shook your head. “You sure are something, alright.”
His lips upturned the slightest bit into a tiny smile. “Is that a good something?”
“Sure, we can say that.”
You opened the door for him as he started taking strides towards it. He paused right past the entryway, something sitting on his tongue. “Try not to hit any more racoons, alright?”
Your fingers drummed along the door, and you laughed. “I’ll be sure to call you if I do. Just in case.”
He was already walking away when he responded. “You have my number.”
You hesitated on shutting the door right away, choosing to listen to him begin to berate the racoon as he walked down the hall, something along the lines of, ‘you make me come out in the middle of the night, scared shitless. You could have died, you fucking cunt.” He continued as he disappeared out of sight, but you didn’t even have the heart to ask him to cover the racoon as he left, preferring to just deal with your landlords berating the next day.
Tire Swings and Tuna Sandwiches (Max Mayfield x fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
“I think...I think I’ll do it tomorrow,” she decided, making a note with her pencil.
“Tomorrow?” You ran your hands through your hair, exasperated. “But I was hoping to sleep in all day…” She snorted, “Geez, hon, I never said you had to come. Don’t be such a whiny-ass baby,” she said in ñ her typical overdoing-it fashion. “Woah woah woah, I’m not a baby!” You protested. “We’re starting high school this year, and if anything Steve says is true, we won’t get to sleep in at all. I want to get the z’s while I still can,” you explained. “Okay,” she shrugged. “Fine by me.”
“But!” You continued, “I’d rather spend the summer with my girlfriend.” Max’s lips puckered in a smile, “How sweet. Be at my house at six sharp tomorrow morning.” You grinned. You were a total sucker for your girlfriend and her drill-sergeant ways. She gave you a kiss on the cheek before grabbing her skateboard and heading for your bedroom window. “Don’t forget. 6 o’clock,” she reminded you as she clambered outside. “Bye love,” she blew you a kiss. “See ya,” you waved, and as soon as she was gone, you collapsed onto your bed, smiling. Such a sucker for Max. The next morning, your alarm clock called you up way too early, but you groaned and stumbled around anyways, getting ready for a day of work, keeping in mind you had Max to look forward to. You were running a bit late, and you biked as fast as you could to her place on Cherry street. She was waiting for you outside, sitting on her porch and eating a pop tart. You shivered slightly as you dismounted from your seat, it was a little bit cold outside, as it was still early morning. But the sun was just visible on the horizon line, and being mid-July, you knew it was going to get hot pretty quickly. “Hi,” you said, walking towards the house. Max nodded in greeting, finishing up the last few bites of her breakfast. “Billy’s gonna drive us to the junkyard. We’ll see if we can find a tire there.” “Oh,” you were slightly taken aback. “That’s...nice of him?” you weren’t really sure. Her stepbrother was the king asshole, and you weren’t quite sure of how to process the fact that he was giving his little stepsister and her girlfriend a ride somewhere. “Yep,” she nodded, popping the p in yep. “He offered, surprisingly. I think he’s trying to get some brownie points with my mom. I guess he thinks that she might spread the word to his dad that he’s being a good brother. I really have no idea,” she laughed.
“Hey!” You both turned to see Billy standing by his car. “You shits ready to go or what?”
“Yeah,” you both said in unison, walking across the lawn and squeezing into the passenger seat together. The car ride seemed to last a lot longer than you knew the drive actually was, what with Billy’s occasional awkward glances over at you two, and the fuzzy sound of the Dead Kennedys coming through the radio. Max kept shifting uncomfortably and the tension just got weirder when the car hit a pothole and you all flew up. Billy swore under his breath and swerved back into the correct lane.
You were relieved when he finally pulled into the junkyard, letting you and Max out. “You gonna walk home?” he asked, and Max affirmed that, saying thanks and shutting the car door. After he drove away, Max rubbed her hands together, looking around at all the options, and said “Let’s look for a tire!” You walked around together for a while, and once you thought that you found a keeper, but after flipping it over you realized that it was all crumbly on the bottom side. A couple hours passed, and seeing as you wanted to get home before lunchtime, you split up. Eventually it was Max that found the winner, hidden under an old refrigerator that had to be from the 1950’s. It was perfect, big enough for the both of you to fit in it together, and not too dirty or damaged. The real issue now was figuring out a way to get it back to Max’s house, because neither of you had quite thought that through before telling Billy not to come pick you guys up. Then you remembered that it was a tire, and tires were wheels, and you two flipped it up so that you could roll it home. It was hard work, and for the twenty five minute walk, you and Max took turns pushing it. You got some strange looks, two teen girls pushing a giant tire around, but you didn't really care. You weren’t goddamn Ms. Stacy Popular Albright, anyways. It was brutal especially as the sun rose higher in the sky, and the temperature rose. Hawkins got really hot in July, sitting at round 95 degrees as early as ten o’clock in the morning. It was no wonder really that Max wanted to get up so early. But, eventually, you both made it home, with the tire still in good shape. You guys on the other hand? Both soaked through with sweat and your hands were blackened by the ever so slightly melting rubber of the tire, but you were in good spirits. When you got to the house, you left the tire outside and went indoors, collapsing on her couch. Mrs. Mayfield made you some tuna sandwiches while you sat watching MTV and drinking coke, wishing her house had air conditioning. The various plug in fans around the room helped a little bit, but not as much as you would’ve liked. “Hey,” Max said suddenly, through a bite of sandwich, looking over at you, her face sunburned. “Hey,” you grinned at her, regretting your decision to sit criss-cross applesauce, as your legs were sticking together with sweat and it was gross. “Do you want to actually build the swing tomorrow?” she asked, grinning slightly. “You mean not have to go back out into that heat?” You raised an eyebrow, liking the sound of this. “Hell yeah!” “Sweet,” Max licked her lips and took a drink out of her can, gesturing to her face, “I don’t think this beautiful face deserves to get more skin cancer from the sun.” “Yeah,” you agreed, “you’re probably already guaranteed a fatal case of it because of all that sun you got in California.”
Max scoffed, “No I haven’t.” You smiled, “just teasing Max. Love you.” You went back to your sandwich, which was amazing. Mrs. Mayfield bought the best tuna, from this little deli that your family refused to buy from. They got fresh shipments from the coast and with Max’s mom's recipe, it was more or less gourmet. You didn’t even notice you had said it. In your head you were told Max that you loved her all the time. You ran through scenarios. You thought to yourself, god, how I love that girl. You were so consumed eating your lunch, you didn’t notice Max’s shocked expression. She was frozen, cheeks pinker than they already were. She thought it was slightly concerning that you had so little external reaction to the huge thing you just said aloud, but she also found that sorta cute.
So she leaned over, gently touching your chin, and tilted your head to face her, where she pressed a kiss to your lips. “I love you too,” she smiled.
Wait what? I love you too? You thought. Did I? Oh shit...
a road trip to remember (marcus moreno x f!reader)
Tumblr media
Warnings: fluff, smut at the end, cursing
Marcus surprised his favorite girls with a small road trip across the state to visit some landmarks, eat at some good restaurants and just spend time with his daughter and girlfriend.
Ever since his wife passed away, dating Marcus had been hard. He was doubtful he will ever find love again until he met her. He was very grateful he wasn’t paying attention to where he was going down the narrow aisle of the local grocery store when his cart ran into someone. The conversation started with a ton of apologies from Marcus to her giving him her number. Over the last 3 years, Marcus was falling in love again. He always will love his wife and think about her daily, he reminded his daughter, Missy, of this every day.
“I know, Dad. It’s like you’ve forgotten you’ve told me this a million times. I want you to be happy, Dad.” she got annoyed when he kept telling her this.
A couple months back, Marcus asked her to move in with them. Of course, she said yes. Waking up next to her every morning was something he looked forward to every night. He always woke up before her due to his hectic work schedule a the Heroics Headquarters. One night, working late, of course, he realized he needed a vacation desperately. He took off for two weeks to spend time with the ones he loved the most.
Forwarding to now, they were on the road, driving home from a wonderful trip. They already visited a ton of famous landmarks around the state, ate tons of incredible food along the way, and overall had a great time being in each other's company. Marcus let the girls choose the music. They had similar tastes despite the large age gap, it was probably because she always played her music while she was cooking dinner for Marcus and Missy. The current artist of the last 2 hours was Ariana Grande. She absolutely adored the pop singer, as did Missy. They knew the lyrics to every song. Marcus wasn’t the biggest Ariana fan but did sing along to the hits that he heard on the radio while driving Missy to school. As the girls sang God is a woman, she leaned her head back on the passenger seat and looked towards her beautiful boyfriend. His hands tapping the beat of the song on the steering wheel. She took her hand and rested it on his leg. His hand came down to rest it on hers and gave it a light squeeze, eventually taking it up and gave her hand a kiss. They stayed hand in hand for the rest of the trip.
“Finally. Places that I recognize.” Missy said with a sigh of relief.
“It sure is good to be home,” Marcus said, swerving into their neighborhood and soon, into the driveway.
“But, we had a good time. Right Missy?” she smiled at her boyfriend.
“Duh! I got two weeks off from summer camp.”
“Well, enjoy it now cause in two weeks after camp ends, school begins,” she said with a spooky voice.
“With that being said, I’m glad to go back to summer camp.” Missy laughed, not enjoying the thought of going back to school.
--
She was putting her hair up when Marcus walked into their room.
“Missy is already fast asleep. All that driving really tuckered her out, huh?” Marcus said, leaning on the bathroom door, watching her get ready for bed.
“It tuckered me out too, and we weren’t even driving,” she walked over and wrapped her arms around his neck, “but thank you for the trip, baby. It was the most fun vacation I’ve had in years. I’m glad I got to spend it with the two of you.”
He smiled and leaned down to kiss her, “I know Missy had the time of her life. I’m glad to hear that you also loved being with us.”
“I never want to not be with you guys. I love you.” she bit her lip.
He rubbed her hips, “I love you, too.”
She leaned up to kiss his soft lips, eventually moving into something more romantic. He moved her to the bathroom sink. Hopping up on the sink, she wrapped her legs around his, pulling him closer to his groin was touching her center. Even with all the layers between them, she could tell that he was already turned on. Her hands tangled through his hair. They both have been sex-deprived for weeks since they’ve been in the same room with his daughter.
“I love Missy and I had fun on the trip, but I’m so glad that we will be able to sleep in our own bed tonight.” she talked into his mouth, trying to kiss him at the same time.
He hummed in agreement, “I missed being able to fuck you.”
Her hands roamed his back as she spread her legs wider for him. He grinded himself into her sex until she couldn’t take it anymore. She needed to be bare to feel immense pleasure. Letting go of Marcus for a quick second, she discarded her thin pajama shorts and panties. Marcus grunted, picking her up and dropping her on the bed admiring her beautiful body laid out for him to devour.
He laid almost his entire weight on her once they both were fully undressed. Their grunts, quiet moans, and heavy breaths fill the room as he pounded into her. Her nails dig into his back as the pleasure became too much, her orgasm popped through her like a firework. Marcus’ orgasm is quick to follow. He collapsed onto her, his breaths heavy on her neck. Her hands snake up to massage his hair. Once he came down from his high, he rolled off her so she could go to the bathroom.
After she was finished, she found her discarded shorts and panties in the same place she kicked them off a while ago. When she returned to the bedroom, Marcus was on his side of the bed anxiously awaiting her return. After she turned out the majority of the lights in the room, she made her way back to bed. She snuggled into Marcus’ warmth. He laid on his stomach while holding onto her thigh that slung over his abdomen. Her fingers traced along his jaw, leaning up to kiss the small bald spot next to his chin.
“I took tomorrow off work so we can lounge and get ourselves back into our normal routine,” Marcus said, “I’ll let Missy decide if she wants to go to summer camp tomorrow.”
“You know she’s going to want to stay home with us. I’m just working from here anyways. Just let her sleep in. I know it’s what I’m going to do and you’re going to do the same Marcus Moreno.”
“Unless I want to wake you up another way.” he wiggles his eyebrows, causing her to lightly hit him in the chest, understanding what he meant by his action.
“Goodnight, lovebug.” she gave him one last kiss before closing her eyes, eventually drifting away to sleep.
Chapter 8: Sinking Friendships
Words: 5.6K
Sirens, flashing lights and screams were the only thing Henry remembered. It all happened so fast. One minute Henry and Rosie were laughing together getting lost in each other’s eyes and the next they were both unconscious awaiting their death.
There was no time for Henry to react in anyway. No swerves or movements were made to prevent the impact. A maroon truck had collided Roise’s side, jolting her entire body. Her door was dented beyond belief.
From the forceful impact caused their car skid on the pavement, wearing the paint job away, and crash into the street pole. Henry’s entire body screamed out in pain, his injuries weren’t as bad as Rosie’s though.
“Rosie? Rosie! Rosie!!” Henry called out, desperately wanting to hear her lovely voice. Panic and heartbreak ensued when he saw blood dripping down the side of her head.
Rosie wasn’t moving. How could she be full of life one minute and the next, not? Henry reached over and placed two fingers below her jaw searching for a pulse. He felt he was able to breathe once her felt her few and far between heartbeats, it was faint but it was still there.
“Darling, wake up. Rosie, wake up! Open your eyes for me.”
Henry could feel himself fading by the moment. He used his last breaths to tell the girl he loved he was sorry. Her life was hanging by a thread and in that moment Henry was utterly useless. Praying that she would wake and he would get to hold her again, as everything faded to black.
It had to be about 15 minutes. 15 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. 15 minutes that Henry and Rosie had been unconscious for. 15 minutes of complete stillness, as everyone outside the vehicle panicked. The witness had called 911 multiple times and the other driver was unconscious at his wheel.
After those brutal and possible life ending minutes, help finally arrived. They pulled Henry from the wreck, putting him on a gurney.
“Sir, can you hear me?” called out the paramedic. “Yes. My girlfriend, help her please,” Henry was pleading for his life. How could he be so careless, it was only an accident? “Sir, just lay back. Let us take care of you,” the paramedic uttered, putting her hand on his shoulder to hold him down.
“No. I need to make sure she is okay.”
“Sir, you need to restrain yourself. The other paramedics have got her.”
“ROSIE! Just please let me know if she is okay,” screamed Henry.
“Sedate him please. I’ll go check on the girl,” said the paramedic. Henry faded into a deep sleep a moment later.
“Hey, how’s the girl? Her boyfriend won’t stop asking,” asked the paramedic to the one attending to Rosie. “Unresponsive. She has head trauma and a pulse, thank god,” he murmured. Henry was sent along with Rosie to Kingston Memorial hospital. The hospital was 20 mins away, so much can happen in that time.
Everyone else was sleeping soundly within the walls of the Holland Manor. It started to become a common theme that phone calls in the middle of the night usually meant someone was hurt. This time it was Harrison calling.
“Haz? It’s so late why are you calling?” You asked, jolting awake.
“There’s been an accident and Tom didn’t answer when I called. It’s Rosie and Henry. It sounded bad, Y/N.”
“Oh my god. I’ll see you there,” you responded, barely forming the words as tears started to fall.
“TOM WAKE UP!” you screamed, shaking him awake.
“What?… I’m up. I’m up.”
“There’s been accident.” No more words were said, they just hopped in the car and drove as fast as possible. Tom knuckles grew white clutching around the steering wheel. He couldn’t even begin to fathom a world with his Rosie in it. Harrison was already there, pacing in the waiting room.
“Haz. Where is she?” you said, tears begging to fall.
“I don’t know they won’t tell me anything because I’m not family,” Harrison answered.
“Fuck that, you are our family. How’s Henry?” Tom exclaimed.
“He’s ok. Just a minor concussion and dislocated shoulder, he’s in there right now. They are putting his shoulder back in its socket. He was really lucky but, I am worried about Rosie.” Haz said, just as a doctor dressed in surgical scrubs approached them.
“Are you here for Rosie Holland?” asked the doctor, Tom just nodded in response.
“Mr. and Mrs. Holland, I presume,” continued the doctor
“Yes, that’s us,” Tom replied, clasping your hand in his. He tried to put on a brave face for his wife. You couldn’t both be a mess.
“Ok, Rosie is still in surgery. With extensive injuries like hers we like to keep the family updated as much as possible. Your daughter was the nearest point of impact. She came in with a puncture wound to the abdomen, a severe concussion, massive internal bleeding, many cuts caused by broken glass and severe trauma to her head.”
“Will she be okay?” you asked, accidentally interrupting the doctor.
“Let him finish darling,” Tom said, his grip on her hand tightening.
“It is still too early to know. I have to get back.”
“Alright Doctor, thank you,” Tom acknowledged. You just fell into Tom’s arms, letting all the tears you were holding back fall. You broke into a fit of sobs in his embrace.
“Tom, I don’t want to lose her. I can’t lose her. She’s our baby,” you whimpered, your tears staining his t-shirt
“Shh, darling. She’ll pull through. Remember she is just like her strong mother.”Tom whispered, rubbing a soothing hand over your back.
“Have you gotten in touch with Parker?” Asked Tom as he continued to comfort you.
“No, I’ve been trying. Leaving message after message… Why fuck isn’t he picking up?” yelled Haz. Just then, Henry had walked up, sporting a cloth sling His heart nearly broke as he saw you crying your eyes out buried in Tom’s arms.
“No. No, no, no. Don’t tell me she didn’t make it.” Henry cried as his knees started to buckle at the thought of losing Rosie.
“Henry no, she’s still in surgery. Hey, come here.” Harrison said trying to calm down his son.
“Henry, what the happened?” Tom asked, scared for his daughters life.
“What were you doing with Rosie anyway? It’s late.” Tom questioned again after Henry stood silent, growing louder.
“Hey, Tom. Back off,” Harrison said, standing in front of Tom.
“No. I want to know the reason why my daughter is in there fighting for her god damm life.” Tom screamed. Henry was like a deer caught in headlights. He couldn’t lie his way out of this one. His eyes just shifted between Tom, you and his dad.
“A truck hit Rosie’s side when I was driving, I’m sorry, it was an accident.” Henry cried, barely able to get the words out.
“Son, we know it was an accident. It wasn’t your fault,” Harrison said, comforting Henry.
“Where? Where were you guys?” Tom pestered on.
“Umm, we were on our way back from… from a date. We are dating.” Henry muttered, his eyes glued to the floor.
“What? Y/N did you know about this?” Tom asked, ready to throw hands.
“Yes, Tom,” you murmured, avoiding Tom’s disappointed glare.
“Why the fuck didn’t you tell me?” Tom screeched.
“And for you. Who the fuck said you could date my daughter?” Tom bellowed, pointing his finger at the poor boy.
“I did kind of give them permission by keeping their secret. In your own time frame though you were supposed to ask Tom,” you muttered, bouncing between Henry and Tom.
“Wait. For how long? For how fucking long?” Tom cursed.
“2 months.” Henry whispered.
“2 months. 2 fucking months. You were lying to me?” Tom screamed, he was livid at you.
“I don’t want you dating her,” Tom growled with an unchanging expression.
“I’m sorry, sir. What?” Henry asked, dumbfounded by Tom’s response.
“Tom, what?” Haz faltered.
“Tom don’t do this, he is a good kid,” you begged.
“Break up with my daughter or there will be hell to pay,” Tom declared and with that he walked away.
“Tom, you can’t do that to them,” you yelled after Tom.
“Really Y/N watch me” Tom said, ignoring his family. His heart had been broken too many times tonight. First when he heard about the accident, another when he had learned of Rosie’s injuries and another when he found out that you had been lying to him. His mind needed to be on one person right now, Rosie.
Tom managed to cool off, but immediately changed the subject anytime you would start to apologize. He didn’t have the energy to focus or listen, all he cared about was Rosie. Parker had showed up 10 mins later, he was off doing god knows what.
“Where the fuck have you been?” Tom yelled, as he saw Parker come through the sliding doors.
“Sorry. I just got your message. Is she okay?” Parker explained.
“We don’t know she is still in surgery,” you whispered, trying to hold back tears.
“What I went out for a bit and shut my phone off. What’s the big deal?” Parker asked.
“The big deal is that I didn’t know where you were. I couldn’t get in touch you. Rosie was in a car accident and I couldn’t call you,” screamed Tom, still angry from the conversation that just perspired
“And Henry?” Parker question, ignoring Tom’s scolding.
“He’s ok. Haz is with him right now, they went to get some coffee,” you informed him.
“Are you okay, mom?” Parker asked, remembering the conversation they had the night before.
“I’ve been better. Just glad you are here,” you said, bringing him into a warm embrace. As they all stood together as a family, Rosie’s doctor came to update them.
“She is out of surgery and stable. Her heart did stop and we were able to resuscitate her, she’s in the ICU now…”
“Can we see her?” Tom asked, interrupting the doctor. A huge weight had just been lifted off his shoulders, his baby girl was going to be okay.
“Yes, but you need to know something. Her brain started to swell in surgery so we had to put her in a medically induced coma to bring down the swelling. We don’t know when she will wake up or if she will at all,” explained the doctor.
All the Hollands stood like statues, unable to process the news. You felt as though you had been punched in the stomach, you wouldn’t be able to handle losing your baby girl.
Minutes, hours and days had melded together. It had been 6 days since the accident and Rosie was still the same, laying unconscious in a hospital bed hooked up to various machines. All of you stayed at the hospital expect for Harrison and Henry. Harrison was running the mob for Tom, for the time being.
You refused to leave her side, spending every waking and sleeping hour right beside her. Seeing your daughter like this was killing you. You weren’t getting any sleep and your hair started thinning.
Rosie looked pale and lifeless, the only thing guaranteeing she was alive was the incessant heart monitor. Her bruises had started to heal, changing from a vibrant purple to an opaque yellow. Everyone prayed she would wake up.
Henry tried to visit everyday but Tom wouldn’t allow it. He was still furious his daughter was dating him and everyone else knew about it except him. Tom’s heart ached for Rosie to wake up and be his funny, sassy, brave girl once again. Tom, however couldn’t stand how the waiting was making you feel.
“Darling. Wake up!” Tom whispered, gently shaking you.
“What? Did something happen? Is Rosie ok?” You exasperated, jolting out of your sleep and trying to catch your breath.
“No, she’s fine. It has just been a while since you had gone home and cleaned up. It might do you some good, baby,” Tom pleaded.
“Tom, I can’t leave her,” you whispered.
“Y/N, it’s ok. Let me take you home and Parker will be here in case anything were to happen,” Tom explained.
You were hesitant at first but eventually agreed, it had been awhile since you had showered or had a decent meal. Living off of the same sweatshirt and hospital cafeteria snacks for the past couple days. All your energy had been put into watching Rosie.
While Tom took you home, Parker was tasked with watching his sister. As kids they were both active and had gotten hurt, only most ever being a broken bone, never a life or death situation. Not only was Rosie Parker’s sister, but she was his twin.
His built in best friend. There had never been a time where he didn’t know her, maybe the first 5 mins of his life, but Rosie soon followed. Sure they fought and argued like all siblings do, but they couldn’t imagine their life without each other. He needed her sarcastic comments and infectious laughter to brighten his day. He needed her warm, slightly awkward hugs and her bitchy attitude once in a while. Parker didn’t know what he’d do without her.
“Rosie, I don’t know if you can hear me but mom is a mess, dad has barely said to word and everyone just needs you to wake up. I need you to wake up…. We all do, especially Henry,” Parker whispered.
“God, he secretly loves you. He hasn’t had the balls to tell you yet, but if that it is what you need to wake up, then do it….Let that be it…. That he loves you, Rosie…. He loves you.”
“I know what it is like to lose someone you love. Charlotte didn’t have a choice, but you do. You can fight and come back to us…. Come back to Henry. He needs you. He calls me every night asking if you had woken up yet. Dad banned him from visiting the hospital. Really fucked that one up didn’t you Roo…. You should’ve told him about you and Henry, but that’s beside the point…. The point is let today or tomorrow or next week be the day I tell him you did…. Just promise me you will wake up ok. I know I don’t say it often but I love you.” Parker got everything he needed to say off his chest. Tears had managed to escape from his eyes as he held her hand. Henry was standing in the doorway, when Parker poured his heart out.
“Hey mate. Mind if I have a minute with my girl?” Henry spoke.
“Not at all. Perfect timing, my parents just left,” Parker said, getting up from his crouched position.
“Yeah, I know. I was parked in the parking lot, waiting for them to leave.”
“How much of that did you hear?”
“Oh, none. None what so ever.”
“So practically all of it?” Parker said in response.
“Yeah,” Henry just nodded along.
“I’ll leave you guys alone,” Parker said as left the room.
Now it was just Henry and Rosie.
Tom had forbidden Henry from seeing her, he hasn’t even gotten to hold her hand. Henry tried to hold back tears as he saw the girl he loved looking half-dead. Her skin had lost its color and her necklace, the one he had given her, was stained with blood sitting in a bag on her bedside.
“Hey Roo. I’ve missed you…. Life hasn’t been the same these past few days. I’ve missed all your good night and good morning texts and your smile.” Henry started.
“Everyone wants you to wake up. They need you to wake up. Can you just open your eyes and flash that smile for me? I need it and I need you…. Rosie,… here it goes,… I love you. I couldn’t stand the thought of you never knowing I love you. So there it is, I love you.”
“I love everything about you…. Your eyes, your laugh, even that weird snort you do. I love you and that has to be enough. It has to be enough for you to wake up and come back to me…. Don’t just do it for me, do it for Parker and your dad and your mom. They have all been losing their minds without you.”
“Rosie, please baby. I love you and that has to be enough,” Henry concluded as tears streaked his face. He moved to press a chaste kiss to her forehead when all of a sudden machines starting going off and beeping left and right.
“Rosie? Rosie stay with me!” Henry didn’t know what was happening. All he knew as that she was still alive and prayed to god he wouldn’t hear her flatlining.
Rosie’s body started to jerk and shake, involuntary. The room filled with nurses and doctors, rolling Rosie on to her side. Her muscles spasming everywhere.
“Sir, you need to leave,” said the nurse, prying Henry away from Rosie.
“No, please let me stay with her,” Henry cried, refusing to avert his eyes from Rosie.
“You need to leave. Let us help her.”
Henry stood crying, peering through the glass doors at the love his life slipping before his very eyes. Her seizure only lasted about 8 minutes but, minutes bleed to hours as tears refused to stop.
“Henry? What happened?” Parker said, running up to Henry crouched on the floor with his knees to his chest and head buried.
“I don’t know. They forced me to leave. Her body started shaking violently, I don’t know what happened,” Henry sniffled, titling his head up. His eyes were beet red and his face was riddled with tears. Parker just stood there dumbfounded. He only left for 10 minutes to get some water. How could so much go wrong in that time.
“Young man, are your parents here,” asked the doctor as everyone came out of Rosie’s room.
“No, they went home to grab some things. Why?… Is she dead?” Parker questioning, pulling at the roots of his hair.
“No, she’s alive, but we can’t share any further information till they get here,” explained the doctor. Parker just nodded in response and Henry was able to breath again, exhaling the breath he was unaware he was holding.
Parker was about to make the call he dreaded. This was the entire reason you refused to leave, in case anything were to happen.
“Parker, what’s up. Is Rosie okay?” Tom said as he answered the Parker’s call.
“Dad, no, you need to get to the hospital. Something happened with Rosie but, they won’t tell me anything,” Parker said, his voice wavering.
“Oh my god, I’ll be right there,” Tom said, hanging up the phone. He had been refusing the chance to break down, he felt as though he had to be strong for everyone else.
“Y/N! Y/N!!” Tom screamed through the house. The one time Tom tries to do something good everything gets screwed up.
“Tom, what?” You exclaimed, startled by his screams
“Something happened with Rosie,” Tom said, a fews tears dripped down his face.
“What? No. No, no, no. I wasn’t there. I’m her mom and I wasn’t there. Why the fuck did you make me leave?” You cried, feeling like a terrible mother. You never should’ve left.
“I’m sorry. Be mad at me later, let’s just go,” Tom said, grabbing his car keys.
Tom’s reckless driving was not the problem at the moment, you just need to be there for Rosie. At the hospital, Tom barely parked properly before they were running through the halls. He came upon Parker in the waiting room, looking disheveled as fuck. His eyes were puffy eyes and hair stood up, he could tell his son was tugging on it in frustration.
Tom needed something to take his mind off Rosie. He needed to punch something or beat someone up or even just take his angry out with words.
“Parker, what happened? Is she okay?” You said, scared for Rosie’s life.
“I don’t know. No one has come out of her room,” Parker explained and you just nodded in response, trying not to cry again.
“Parker, what the fuck is Henry doing in here?” Tom demanded.
“Umm,” Parker mumbled.
“I’m sorry sir, I needed to see her,” Henry said profusely, apologizing
“I don’t care what fuck you needed to do. You are the reason she is dying. You were the one driving,” Tom screamed.
“Tom it was an accident,” you said, trying to reassure yourself in the process.
“Y/N I don’t understand how you can take his side when he almost killed our baby girl.”
“Like, I said it was an accident!” you explained.
“Nurse! Nurse!” Tom yelled.
“Yes, sir. Do you need the doctor?” asked the nurse, worried someone was bleeding.
“No. I want to know who the fuck let this boy in here.” Tom thundered.
“I don’t know sir, I’m so sorry. This won’t happen again,” she explained.
“Tom he can stay. If he is telling the truth about loving Rosie this concerns him as much as it concern us,” you said. This must be killing Henry like it was to you.
“No, he fucking can’t. Now get out, before I have you escorted out of here in a body bag,” Tom threatened.
“Alright, I’ll go. Just please, tell me if she wakes up,” Henry pleaded, slowly walking away. He wasn’t going to go home, he couldn’t. He couldn’t leave, not when Rosie was still in that state.
They all saw the doctor come out of the room and quickly cornered him. A grim expression draped across his face created uneasiness in everyone.
“I’m Y/N Holland, I’m her mother. What happened? I just left for twenty minutes,” you asked, tears streaming down your face as you barged in the room.
“We put her on a ventilator, the seizure was caused by lack of oxygen to her brain,” the doctor said.
“I’m sorry, what? She had a seizure?” Tom said, trying to put the puzzle pieces together.
“Yes. Her brain function has remained unchanged for several days now. In my expert opinion, her outlook isn’t very good. I would prepare yourselves. We can keep her comfortable if you would like or we can arrange her to be moved to a facility where she will possibly heal in the future,” explained the doctor.
“What are you saying? She’s brain dead?” asked Parker chiming in.
“It’s too still early to give a definitive diagnosis, but most likely, yes. I’m sorry for your loss.” The doctor said, exiting the room. You wanted to die right in that moment. A piece of you died the second those words slipped out, you were inconsolable.
“Y/N. Baby, come here,” Tom whispered. Trying to reach out for you, his broken wife.
“Don’t fucking touch me. I should’ve never let you convince me to leave,” you cried.
The guilt was enormous for everything. You were the one who let Rosie and Henry date, without that they would have never been driving together. Never gotten in the accident, you couldn’t help but feel responsible.
It was always the same feeling, you felt walking into Rosie’s hospital room. The feeling of drowning or being burned alive. It’s indescribable. A feeling felt by those who lose their children. You put them on this earth and for them to leave it before you was wrong.
“Rosie, I’m so sorry I left baby. I’m here now and I’m never leaving,” you said, combing your hand through her brown locks.
“But its okay if you need to. It’s okay. I’ll be alright, we all will be…. You can let go…. I love you so much sweetheart, don’t every forget how much mommy loves you…. You can rest now,” you said, moving to Rosie’s side to take her hand in yours. Seeing Rosie like this was tearing you apart from the seems.
It wasn’t long before all tears had put you to sleep. Tom had covered you up with a blanket. You talked to Rosie as though she could hear you. Maybe she could, maybe not but, you definitely wished she could. Tom hadn’t had the chance to break down like you. You needed him to be the strong one, but he was human too.
“Rosie, it’s dad. Everyone besides me has gotten the chance to talk to you, so here it goes,” Tom started.
“I know your mother said that is was ok to leave, but it is not. You hear me. Don’t you dare leave…. Rosie, darling you need to fight. Fight whatever it is that will bring you back to us. You are so much stronger than you lead on baby.”
“I love you so much, please come back to us…. I don’t know if your mother can take losing you. Also that boy you secretly hid from me. Once you wake up you are grounded. I don’t know why you fell for that scruffy looking kid but he needs you, baby. We all do,” Tom concluded. There was no easy fix to this problem. He couldn’t go out and torture somebody or beat them til they broke. Not even money could fix this. He felt completely and utterly useless.Tom reached out to the only thing that could help his daughter, God.
“Hey, god above, I don’t really have a name for you. You are just the one who watches over people, you could be from any religion. I don’t know,” Tom said, clasping his hand together as he spoke to the heavens above.
“I know we don’t talk often and I’m sorry for that and I’m sorry for the despicable acts I’ve committed but I need you help…. My daughter needs your help. She was in a car accident and she hasn’t woken up yet. She’s so young, she has her entire life ahead of her and I want her to experience it all…. I’d really like to walk her down the aisle someday. Can you just bring her back to me? That’s all I ask, just bring her back.”
“Thank you. Shit, I’m believe I’m supposed to say amen and I’m sorry for cursing a second ago. Just remember what we talked about, do this for her not me. God knows I don’t deserve it,” Tom said, ending his plea to the god or gods above.
Tom couldn’t of imagined better timing, with his speech, Rosie’s fingers started to twitch in his hand.
“Y/N wake up?” Tom yelled.
“What, I’m up. Is she ok?” You asked, confused by his outburst.
“Better than ok, her hand moved,” Tom explained.
“Oh my god, really? Parker go get the doctor,” you said, moving towards Rosie.
“Rosie?” Tom said as she started to stir.
“Rosie, baby. I’m here” you said, holding her hand. Rosie eyes fluttered open as she choked on the intubation tube, which gave her oxygen.
“Shh, you’re ok. You were in a car accident with Henry. You’re ok,” you said, softly. The look on Rosie’s face broke your heart. She looked so confused and overwhelmed all you wanted to do was hold her and never let go. Yes, she was a teenager but she will always be your baby girl.
Parker quickly brought the doctor in and he conducted a neurological exam. He removed the tube down her throat, allowing her to breath normally.
“Rosie, you’re awake. Don’t try to talk, it will feel weird for a while. I can get you something for the pain. I’m going to have you do a few tests. Blink once for yes and twice for no, ok?” The doctor explained. Rosie followed his instructions and blinked once. You and Tom were holding each other, praying Rosie didn’t have any brain damage.
“Follow the light for me please. Good. Squeeze my hand. Good grip… These are all amazing signs. Everything looks good. No neurological deficits, but I still would like to get an MRI for her. In the meantime, just rest. It’s going to feel weird as your brain has basically been sleeping for a week,” the doctor concluded, leaving everyone alone to rejoice.
“Mom?” Rosie said, her voice extremely hoarse.
“Yeah, honey. Take it easy,” you said. Words couldn’t describe how you were feeling, you got your daughter back.
“Where’s Henry?” Rosie croaked out.
“He’s ok Rosie, I believe he is outside. Would you like to see him?” You asked, much to Tom’s dismay. Rosie just nodded in response, trying to make everything seem less hazy.
“Rosie,” Henry said with a biggest smile on his face. Nothing could bring this boy down from cloud 9, she was ok. The love of his life was ok.
“Hi,” she said with a half-smile. That’s all she could must her up with her energy.
“Thank god you’re okay. I don’t know what I’d do without you,” Henry said, kissing her forehead.
“We will give you two a minute,” you said, pulling Tom and Parker out of the room. Tom was giving you a bunch of harsh glares, he knew what you were doing. However, he too ecstatic that Rosie was awake to be mad at Henry.
“Are you okay? How do you feel?” Henry asked concerned.
“I’m okay. Henry, I have to tell you something,” Rosie responded.
“I love you…. Walking up in the hospital bed just made me realize who cares if it’s too soon or if you don’t feel the same way, I just had to tell you. I love you,” Rosie declared. This was his chance, break her heart and walk away, she didn’t deserve to be here in a hospital bed. Tom was right, Henry knew what he had to do.
“Rosie, I think we should break up,” Henry said, already feeling like he made the biggest mistake of his life.
“What, why? Did I do something wrong? I thought we were happy. Just yesterday you said you were falling in love me. What the fuck happened?” Rosie faltered, confused by everything.
“Rosie, it’s just not working,” Henry exclaimed with the lamest excuse.
“Fine. Leave,” she said, trying to not let tears fall.
“Roo, we can still be friends.”
“Don’t fucking say that to me. You don’t get to call me that anymore,” Rosie screamed.
“Rosie, I’m sorry,” Henry tried to say something else but was cut off.
“Just get the fuck out. I’m serious, FUCKING LEAVE!!” she thundered as he left. Henry felt like literal shit and an asshole and a fucking idiot all at once. He had just broken the heart of the girl he loves. It was never supposed to happen this way.
“Henry? What’s wrong?” You asked as you saw Henry storm through the halls.
“Are you happy Tom? I did it,” Henry barked.
“Glad she’s awake. Y/N you should go in there, she needs you,” Henry exclaimed, before leaving for good this time.
“Tom, we need to talk about Rosie and Henry,” you said, furious at Tom and his decision to break them up.
“He’s gonna fucking break her heart and I won’t allow it,” Tom yelled.
“You can’t keep them apart and you already did that,” you said sternly, you couldn’t believe the nerve on your husband.
“Y/N end of fucking discussion. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me. We don’t keep secrets from each other. For fucks sake, how fucking stupid are you? Letting our daughter whore around with that kid, just like you did,” he vociferated.
“Whore around like I did? Really? Why don’t you look in the fucking mirror?” You screamed, zero fucks were given.
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Tom barked.
“I know about you and Jazz.”
“What?”
“You went to a hotel and met her there. Tell me I’m wrong,” you interjected. Tom was too furious to explain his actions, he let you believe he cheated on you.
“Your silence answers my question,” you remarked, wanting to break down inside.
“Tom, just so you know you're sleeping on the couch tonight,” you said. You had your answer now. How could Tom do that to you. I didn’t matter in that moment all that mattered was consoling your daughter who Tom broke.
“Real fucking mature Y/N,” Tom yelled, as you walked away.
“Rosie?” You asked, knocking on her door.
“Mom… he broke up with me,” Rosie said as tears fell.
“Oh, baby. I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t know what I did wrong…. I swear to god if he met some other chick while I was in a coma.”
“No, nothing like that,” you said, trying to comfort your daughter. There is nothing like a first heartbreak.
“There has to be a reason. One minute I was in love with a boy who loved me back and now, I’m not.”
“Shh, it's okay,” you said, rubbing you hand down Rosie’s back as you pulled her into your arms. How could Henry actually do that to her and flee the scene like a coward. Parker managed to chase him down in the parking lot.
“What the fuck Henry?” Parker called after him
“I did it because I love her,” Henry exclaimed, continuing to walk away.
“Bullshit,” Parker yelled as he punched Henry square in the jaw.
“Owww.”
“I said, I’d fucking hurt you if you broke her heart.”
“Yeah, I know. It was still a shitty threat, but I deserved that.”
“I don’t understand what happened Henry. One minute you tell me you love her the next you don’t…. I don’t know if I will ever understand but you can’t come by the house for awhile,” Parker pleaded, wanting to know the truth.
“Alright. Just tell her I’m sorry mate.” Henry concluded, feeling like literal shit and an asshole and a fucking idiot all at once. He had just broken the heart of the girl he loves. It was never supposed to happen this way.
Author note: I'm sorry for all those who love Rosie and Henry. Don't be afraid to call me a bitch for breaking your heart, my brother did when he read it. Also Tom is a literal asshole in this chapter.
I really can't wait for you guys to read the next ones, even if you don't ask for it. I will post hints for the next chapter with emojis because it's fun.
part 2 | masterlist | marauders era playlist | read on ao3
“She’s absolutely gorgeous, Prongs!” A young Sirius Black twirled around the dorm room and fell onto his bed with a dreamy sigh. “She’s witty and smart mouthed, but she’s so sweet and nice at the same time. She listens to the Weird Sisters and Queen and she’s a total badass.”
“Y/N L/N?” James scoffs, bending over a sketch he was working on. It appeared to be an intricate building of some sort, complete with four stories and geometric windows.
“Yes, Y/N L/N! I think it’s love at first sight, Prongsy. I’m going to marry that girl one day.” Sirius laid one of his ankles against the post of his bed. The leather of his boot made a loud squeaking noise, and James cringed.
“Have you ever even talked to Y/N L/N?” James smiled smugly and smudged ink across the side of his hand.
“Have you ever had an actual conversation with Lily Evans?” Sirius countered, making James sputter. James looked diagonally towards Sirius and moved his head so their corresponding bedposts weren’t in the way.
“I have! This morning, for example! We talked about the morning toast for a full 3 minutes!” His glasses began to fog as his cheeks warm. Sirius laughed heartily and threw the pillow that was under his head square at James’ face. With a deep ‘oof,’ James looks back towards Sirius, glasses now crooked. “Fine, don’t believe me! You’re just angry Evans is finally starting to fall for my charm.”
“Ah yes, my bad. I forgot sweat and body odor was irresistible to girls.”
“Lily isn’t a girl.” James reached his slender fingers to level his glasses. “She’s a woman.”
Sirius was sent into hysterics; chest heaving, loud laughter, tearful, hysterics. James rolled his eyes and threw the pillow back at Sirius. But, in all of its glory, the cushion hit Sirius’ bedpost and sent feathers flying through the air. Sirius busts out in even more laughter, falling to the floor with a big, dramatic thud.
“What’s going on here?” Remus asks, entering the room and setting his bag onto his bed. “Why is Pads on the floor?”
“JP assaulted me!”
“I DID NOT YOU THREW FIRST!!!”
Remus chuckled under his breath and unbuckled his bag to retrieve his homework. “And what exactly caused this alleged assault? Did Sirius call you Prancer again?”
A bark sounding laugh came from Sirius and James scowled.
“No, we were just talking about his newfound obsession with Y/N L/N and he took an unwarranted dig at mine and Lily’s relationship.”
Remus snorted and set his work on his desk. “What relationship?” Sirius let out another “HA” and pulled himself back onto his mattress. “And isn’t Y/N L/N the one who called your hair greasy, Pads?”
“Well, yes, but I like a woman with a bit of attitude,” Sirius sighed dreamily. His left pointer finger, ring and all, came to twirl a chunk of his hair. “I think I want an autumn wedding.”
“You’re not getting married to her, mate. You don’t even know her.” James came to Remus’ bed and started poking around his bag. “Are you putting on the scar ointment Pomfrey gave you still, Moons? Hey! Stop picking at that one, you’re going to make it worse!” He slapped Remus’ hand away from his face and Remus rolled his eyes.
“Who are you? My mother?”
“I am too going to marry her, James! Just watch me!”
Peter opened the door solemnly, a grumpy look plastered on his face. James turns nervously towards him before slapping him on the back.
“What happened, Pete? I thought you were supposed to be on a date?”
“I was, but she stood me up. Again.” Peter responds, making a beeline for the window seat. Conveniently, it was located next to his bed, so he haphazardly tossed his school bag onto the mattress. He grabs hold of one of the pillows before hugging it to his chest and burying his head into it. Sirius and James share a look before Sirius speaks up.
“Awh, you’ll get ‘em next time. Don’t worry too much about it. It’s her loss, really.”
“No, it was my loss. It was Abagail Cavin, mate. It was definitely my loss.” Peter’s voice was muffled as he muttered into the soft fabric.
“Who’s Abagail Cavin?” Sirius asks, looking towards Remus for an answer. He shrugs.
“I think that’s the ginger girl who always hangs around Y/N L/N? A year or two below us,” James thought aloud. “She’s friends with Lily too, I’ve seen them studying together.”
Remus snorts. “Of course you have.”
“I don’t know if I’m sad or angry.” The mousy boy admits, throwing the pillow in his lap at the wall. It hit one of Sirius’ Queen posters, making the frame fall to the floor with a loud crash. James is quick to swoop in and redirect Peter’s attention in fear of him escalating.
“Hey, hey, hey. It’s okay, there’s no need to get mad at Abagail. Um, how about we go get some sweets from the kitchens, yeah? Maybe that’ll make you feel better.”
Peter tightened his jaw, staring at the now shattered frame on the ground. After a moment of silence from all the boys, Peter nodded and the pair exited the room.
~
“Y/N L/N,” Sirius spoke in his signature flirty voice. He tried to match her walking pace, but she seemed to be in a rush.
“Sirius Black, what can I do for you?” Y/N answered, her school uniform skirt swaying as she walked. She was on her way to meet Abagail in the library so the two could study together, and she was already 5 minutes late.
“I was wondering if you would -excuse me, sorry- if you would like to go to the next Quidditch match with me?” Y/N seemed to swerve in and out of the crowded hallway like a car in heavy traffic. “Supposed to be a good game, you know.”
“Me? Go with you? While you cheer your little boyfriend on? Thanks for offering, but I have to decline.”
“Come on, you always go anyway! It could be fun!” Sirius finally matched Y/N’s fast gait. “And maybe we could grab some hot butterbeer or cider after.”
Y/N sighed, suddenly stopping at the entrance of the library. She faced Sirius boldly and grabbed his upper arms with her hands.
“Listen, it’s really flattering that you want me to go with you, and I have to admit, you’re super cute. But, you don’t exactly have the best track record with girls and I don’t want to be just a checkmark on your list of girls to shag.”
While any person would be wounded by Y/N’s blunt assumptions, Sirius grins. “That’s where you’re wrong, love. I don’t really have a track record with girls, unless you count the week I dated Marlene McKinnon the October of our 2nd year. It’s our 7th year and I’ve had one kind-of girlfriend.”
Sirius watched as Y/N’s facial expression changed. Taking this as an invitation to keep going, he rubs his hands together and continues. “And if you’re talking about shagging, I’ve shagged maybe three girls who were not on some kind of to-fuck list, thank you very much.” Sirius suddenly leans in so he could whisper. “I’m just flirty. And based on the look on your face, the flirting is working.”
“Y/N!” Abagail’s voice made Y/N drop her hands and Sirius smirk. “What are you doing?”
“Oh, we’re just chit chatting,” Sirius answers for Y/N. “But, I do have a question for you, Ab.”
Abagail’s face scrunched in response. “Don’t call me that. What’s your question?”
“Why’d you stand up my mate Peter?” Sirius now stood with his feet shoulders width apart, arms crossed over his chest and his hair pulled to one side. Y/N couldn’t help but admire how well Sirius’ uniform pants fit.
“What do you mean, stand him up? We talked about hanging out, but we never made actual plans. Honestly, I don’t really think I want to make any official plans. Some of the things he says are kinda scary.” Y/N looks sympathetically towards her friend.
“I told you to just ignore him, babes.”
“I know, I know. I really think he’s a nice guy deep down though.”
Sirius looked puzzled, “What harmless, little Peter Pettigrew says scares you?”
Abagail nods frantically, “He came and sat with Lily and me when we were studying in the library last week. He went on a rant about how he can’t wait to become an Auror just to see,” The girl lifted her fingers to so air quotes. “How far he can take it.”
“That doesn’t sound like Peter at all,” Sirius’ eyebrows knit in confusion.
“Well, it was. And Y/N and I have a lot of studying to do. So, if you’ll excuse us.” Abagail gently tugged at Y/N’s arm.
“Wait! So, is it a date, Y/N?” Sirius called after the girls. Y/N turned over her shoulder and beamed.
“Common room before the match. I don’t like to be kept waiting, Black!”
~
“You don’t like to be kept waiting… but you think it’s perfectly okay to leave me all alone in the common room? That’s not very kind, Y/N.” Sirius watched Y/N descend the stairs to the girls dormitory. He was wearing his Gryffindor sweater and ripped black jeans, his hair tied messily in a bun. A long, striped scarf dangled lazily on his shoulders and draped down his frame to his mid thigh.
“I said before the match and if I’m not mistaken, it’s before the match.” Y/N tossed her hair over her shoulder. “Are those for me?”
Sirius quickly stood, holding out a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers. “Heh, yeah. I thought it was fitting because it’s the middle of October and we’re going to a Quidditch match. The leaves are orange and there’s so many colors and the sunflowers have the same kind of color pallet-”
“Sirius, they’re lovely. Thank you.” Y/N cut off the blabbering boy. She took the flowers happily and observed their pretty petals. Sirius was right; the rich golden color matched the fallen leaves that littered the Hogwarts grounds. Y/N held up a waiting finger to Sirius so she could go leave her flowers in her dorm.
“It’s pretty cold out, love, do you want to grab a jacket?” Sirius said when she returned.
“It’s all in the name of fashion, my dear,” Y/N pulls a piece of hair behind her ear and nods towards the portrait hole. “Shall we?”
Y/N sat in the crowd with her legs crossed; her shoulders were slumped forwards and her hands stayed sandwiched in between her thighs. Gryffindor was absolutely destroying Ravenclaw with the impressive score of 80-10.
“The snitch is right by Potter’s head!” Y/N screeched, bumping Sirius’ shoulder with her own.
“Where?! I don’t see it!”
“To the right! Meadowes needs to catch it before Lockhart sees it!” Y/N shivers in spite of herself, bringing her hands to her mouth in order to warm them. Sirius snickers and loops his scarf around her shoulders.
“Hopefully that doesn’t ruin your outfit, love.” Sirius winks and turns back to the game.
The scarf was soft and toasty, and smelt exactly like Sirius. The satisfying mix of leather, butterbeer, pine and smoke engulfed her senses and made her dizzy. Y/N wrapped it around her arms and snuggled deeper into the soft knit.
“Meadowes spots the snitch!” Remus announces over the intercom. The entire statum seemed to erupt into chaos; cheers and boos echoing off of every surface within 500 feet.
Y/N had always had a soft spot for Remus; they weren’t friends, but something about him was so warm and inviting. He in no way seemed like the type to announce a Quidditch match, but it appears that when you’re friends with James Potter long enough, anything could happen.
Dorcas zooms past the Gryffindor student section in her pursuit for the snitch. The entire group, Lily and Marlene especially, scream out loud words of encouragement. Y/N could have sworn she could see a faint smile appear across Dorcas’ features.
“Potter scores! 10 points to Gryffindor! 90-10! Ravenclaw could still win if Lockhart catches the snitch!”
“Come on, come on,” Sirius mumbles under his breath. No matter how much he liked to deny it, Sirius got really into Quidditch. He couldn’t play for shit, but he knew the mechanics of the game like the back of his hand.
“Meadowes catches the snitch! Gryffindor wins!!” The entire crowd goes ballistic. Kids hug, and some kiss, before storming the field to congratulate their team. James stays on his broom, doing small loops in the air in the hopes of impressing a certain redhead.
Sirius wraps his strong arms around his date, pulling her to her feet and lifting her into the air. “We won, Y/N! We won!!”
Y/N snakes her arms around Sirius in return, a similar happiness bubbling in her chest.
“What’d ya say about grabbing some hot cider from the kitchens to celebrate?” Sirius questions, noticing they’re the last students at their seats.
Y/N nods, a soft smile gracing her face. “Yes, please. I’m fucking freezing.”
~
“It would be easier if you just levitated the boxes in, love.” Y/N watched as Sirius struggled to carry boxes into the living room of their new flat. She giggled, admiring her boyfriend’s flexed biceps and strong hands. The prominent veins in his hands and forearms were bulging, making the manual labor a show for his very happy girlfriend.
“I feel like that’s bad luck,” Sirius explained, placing the cardboard onto the floor. “I want to do this right. If I don’t we could be cursed.”
“Whatever you say, babe. But, just so you know, that box goes into the kitchen.” With a flirty wink and smile, Y/N walked into their bedroom to unpack some of their boxes.
Their new flat wasn’t overly exciting; it was a one bedroom, one bath flat above a small bakery in the center of London. It was a tiny space, as you’d expect two barely-twenty-year-olds to own, but it would soon be their home. Y/N was just excited the flat had a kitchenette and a small living space.
The best part, in Y/N’s opinion at least, was the fact that the smell of freshly baked bread filled their flat at the beginning of each day. The elderly bakery owners, Jullian and Caspar, had given the young couple a good price on the flat. According to them, they were waiting for the perfect couple to rent from them. What that meant, Y/N didn’t know, but it made her feel special all the same.
Y/N looked out of their window to the hustle and bustle on the sidewalk below. The shop was a small, hole in the wall bakery called Dream Puffs, that was oddly popular for its location. And Y/N was quick to understand why. Almost everything they made, especially the sour dough bread and cream puffs, were to die for. Jillian had presented Sirius and her a large loaf of the bread and a dozen cream puffs as a welcome present, most of which had been eaten already. Y/N wished she had known of Dream Puffs and the wonderful owners before, but she supposed she still had a lot to discover in London.
The one downside was the only way to get into their apartment was by going through the bakery. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but when you’re in a rush or having a bad day, having to face random people isn’t the most ideal situation. Jullian and Caspar were nice enough to close the bakery early for the couple’s move in.
“I thought you were supposed to be unpacking?” Sirius poked his head into their bedroom with sweat dripping down his brow.
“Oh right, sorry,” Y/N lazily flicked her wand and their clothing sprang to life.
“Bad luck, Y/N!” He entered the room and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, laid his chin on her shoulder and looked out the window. The busy streets and buildings were muted by the glass, which made Y/N feel as if they were watching ants in an ant farm.
“I doubt we’ll get bad luck from levitating a few shirts, darling,” Y/N brought one of his hands to her mouth, gently kissing his knuckles before returning it to her waist. “I can’t believe this place is ours,”
“Well, technically it’s Jillian’s and Caspars, but yes.” Sirius chuckles directly into Y/N’s ear and kisses her shoulder. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“Are you asking me to marry you?”
“Yes and no. Not now, obviously, but eventually. We’re going to be together forever anyway, so why should we rush?”
Y/N sighed happily, feeling very loved.
~
“Do you think Abagail will ever talk to me again?” Peter asked, laying his head against the armrest of the couch. “I heard she's working at the book shop in Diagon Alley.”
Y/N snorted, laying her head on her boyfriend’s shoulder and enjoying the sound of the record playing in the corner of the room. Sirius and Y/N were hosting a dinner party for their friends in celebration of James getting accepted into the Auror academy. The nine of them -Sirius, Y/N, James, Lily, Peter, Remus, Marlene, Dorcas, and Mary- were all piled in Sirius and Y/N’s small living room, tipsy and full of warm food.
“That happened almost two years ago, Pete. Let it go,” Y/N hummed, Sirius’ gentle hand rubbing her back and lulling her to sleep. She could feel the vibrations of Sirius’ laughter through his leather jacket.
“Yeah, so? I’m not allowed to like someone that long?” Peter’s voice was harsher than he anticipated, making Sirius send a glare his way.
“She means stop moping around and pining after a girl who doesn’t want you. There’s a world of opportunity and thousands of girls just waiting to date you if you open your eyes to it.” Sirius’ tone was barely lighter than Peter’s.
“Well I don’t want thousands of girls, Padfoot. I want Abagail. Not everyone can hit it on their first try.”
“Hit it on their first try?” Y/N was now wide awake. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
“I mean,” Peter sat up, looking Y/N straight in the eyes. “You fucked Sirius on the first date.”
“Woah, woah, woah, alright that’s enough. Wormy, Pads, Y/N, let’s all just take a deep breath and calm down for a moment.” James was quick on his feet to defuse the potentially harmful situation. He knew how Peter could get, and he didn’t want to see it escalate to that point.
“Did you just slut shame me for having sex with my own boyfriend? Do you even have the authority to do that, Mr. Unused-Condom?” Y/N was now standing with James, starting to walk towards Peter. Peter stumbled to his feet and stared into Y/N’s eyes.
“He wasn’t your boyfriend then, Miss Drop-My-Panties-for-a-Knut.”
Sirius was quick to act, anger boiling inside of him. His knuckles balled into a fist and he threw a nasty punch square into Peter’s jaw. “No one insults my girl, Peter. I thought you knew better than that.” Sirius’ voice was like nothing Y/N had ever heard; it was cold and icy, yet fiery hot and full of hell-bending anger.
Peter looked up and slugged Sirius right in the nose, making it gush blood. Remus grabs Sirius’ arms and binds them behind his back, trusting James to do the same to Peter.
Y/N shrieked, having never seen Sirius or Peter get physical with anyone, let alone each other. Marlene grabbed her arm and pulled her away from the boys.
“What have we talked about, you two?” James demanded, the vein on his neck bulging.
“I’m not going to sit around and let him harass my girlfriend, JP! He’s a fucking asshole and he knows it!” Sirius struggled against his binds, but Remus was much stronger than him.
“I’m not the one dating a slut!”
“Get the fuck out of my flat!” Sirius screams making the room shake. Peter wiggles from James’ grip and grabs his wand before disapperating out of the room.
Remus releases Sirius and he stomps out of the flat and down the stairs, most likely to go smoke a cigarette. James quickly follows after a glance towards Lily.
“What did James mean when he said ‘what have we talked about,’ Remus?” Y/N asks, her soft voice a stark contrast from Sirius’ shouting. Remus runs a big hand down his face and plops onto the couch.
“I wasn’t supposed to let you girls know,” He scoffs, shaking his head. “Sirius and Peter have been at each other’s throats for the past few years. Recently, it started getting physical. James always tries to defuse the situation, but it doesn’t work a ton.” Remus meets Y/N’s gaze and smiles sadly. “That boy would do absolutely anything for you, I hope you know that.”
~
Sirius laid in bed with his arms wound tightly around Y/N’s waist. It was near 5 am and the light was just barely peeking through the window of their bedroom. The morning bread must have just been put in the oven, as the smell of fresh bread was slowly starting to overtake the flat. A long sliver of silver light slashed against the wall before fading delicately into the white paint. Sirius sighed contently and looked down at his girl.
Her eyes were closed and her mouth was slightly agape; Sirius observed how Y/N’s eyes moved under her eyelids while wondering what she was dreaming about. He hoped she dreamt of him, as his dreams were constantly riddled with her. Every aspect of her danced around his dreams: her lovely smile, her laugh, her scent, her gait, and everything that made Y/N Y/N. Sirius’ own lips parted a miniscule amount as he brought the back of his fingers to brush her cheek. He couldn’t help but notice how soft her skin was under his touch. She was so peaceful in this moment, and if she was to be disturbed, the world would crack.
But all good things come to an end, and Y/N opened her eyes. Her features were riddled with the grogginess of sleep as she batted her eyes to focus her vision.
“Darling? Is everything alright?” Her voice was honey in his ears.
“Perfect, my love. Go back to sleep.”
“What time is it?” Y/N began to wiggle from his strong grip, but Sirius tightened his hold on her waist.
The man shot a spare glance at the old coo-coo clock that hung in the corner. “Quarter to five”
“Then may I ask why you’re awake?”
Sirius sighed, pressing an opened mouth kiss on her forehead. “Couldn’t sleep, the nightmares are still awry.”
“What was it this time? Your mom?” Y/N was now wide awake and propped up onto her elbow.
“No, the last Order mission, actually,” Sirius gently brushed a clump of hair out of her eyes. “But it’s okay, I’m alright. I have you here with me.”
Y/N’s eyebrows scrunched and her mouth pierced. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“No, my darling. I just want to lay here with my beautiful girl in my arms.”
“I’ve never been to this bar before,” Y/N giggles as Sirius opens the door to the small building. The outside’s appearance was rather unappealing; cracked, exposed brick that has moss growing out of it, a leaky gutter system, a splintering wooden door and a faded open sign. Y/N looked up towards the LED sign that spelled out the bar’s name. Silver Sickle Bar and Eatery illuminated in the wet pavement, but multiple letters were unlit, making it read Silver Ickle and Eat.
“Me either, one of my clients works here and said she’d give me free drinks.” Sirius winked before following Y/N inside.
The place was small and drafty, but oddly cozy. It had the same exposed brick as the outside, but this time, they were bright red and covered in picture frames.  A few wooden tables were scattered across the floor opposite the bar, and various older men sat with beers in their hands.
“Oh, Sirius! My love, you came!” A very angelic girl from behind bar squeals, quickly exciting the bar and throwing her arms around Sirius. Her hurried speed made Y/N step away from the pair to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. Sirius chuckles heartily, wrapping his arms around her small frame, seeming to forget Y/N was there.
“Vanessa! Nice to see you again,” He exhaled. A sinking feeling settled in the bottom of Y/N’s stomach. “How is your tattoo healing?”
Vanessa pulls her shirt down to show Sirius the skin in between her breasts. On her skin sat a magical tattoo of a Hongorian Horntail dragon, which looked towards Sirius and blew a big breath of fire his way. The art was gorgeous, very obviously Sirius’ work, which only made Y/N’s stomach sink further into her feet. The red, lacy, v neck bra Vanessa was wearing brought out the ink in the tattoo perfectly, and the shape of the cut displayed not only her breasts, but the dragon beautifully.
Y/N knew that many of Sirius’ clients were girls; she wasn’t stupid. He was a newly licensed tattoo artist at the biggest magical tattoo parlor in all of London. Not to mention, Sirius was an incredibly talented artist, which meant his appointment list was extremely difficult to get on. The charming attitude and good looks only added to the appeal of his artistry.
“Who’s this?” Vanessa turned her gaze from Sirius’ to look directly at Y/N. Her long, black hair fell over her shoulder like a waterfall and her porcelain skin glowed under the dim lighting.
“Oh! Right,” Sirius stuttered, shooting a grin in Y/N’s direction. “This is my gorgeous girlfriend, Y/N. Y/N this is Vanessa, I did her dragon tattoo last week.”
Y/N forced herself to send a polite smile towards the girl who was just all over her boyfriend. Vanessa sent an equally fake smile and began to walk back to the bar.
“And what can I get started for you, handsome?” She giggled, standing in front of the large wall of liquor. Y/N felt as if she was back at Hogwarts with all the girls throwing themselves at Sirius.
“Old fashioned,” Sirius responded, taking place on one of the wooden stools. “And for the lady, tequila on the rocks with lime.”
Vanessa sends Y/N an icy look before giggling sweetly. “Coming right up.”
Y/N sends a worried glance towards Sirius, but he just responds by squeezing her thigh and kissing her temple.
“So, do you have any tattoos? Since you’re so good at your job, I would assume you do, yes?” Vanessa asks, pouring Sirius’s drink and sliding it towards him.
“Quite a few,” He catches the glass before it flies off the bar. “Most of them are covered by my shirt though.”
It was true, Sirius’ torso and shoulders were littered with tattoos: A large lion across his right shoulder onto his bicep, stag antlers across his shoulder blades, a moon on the lower left side of his stomach, rat paw marks under the moon, and constellations riddling his collarbones.
The bartender tilts her head to the side cheekily. “Can I see them?”
Sirius chuckles in a very happy, flattered way. “I don’t think that’s quite necessary here,”
“But I can already see this one…” Vanessa reached her arm across the bar and traced the bottom of the lion’s mane with her long, slender fingers. The tattoo seemed to move with her movements. “Can’t I see the rest?”
Y/N coughs, slapping her hand against the bar. The vibration of Y/N’s sudden movement caused Sirius’ drink to wobble inside the glass. “I think I ordered a tequila not a random chick flirting with my boyfriend.”
“Of course, how foolish of me.” Vanessa sent a scowl Y/N’s way and turned her back to fetch the bottle of alcohol. Sirius matched Vanessa’s expression.
Once the flirt finished making Y/N’s drink, she slid it over to her. Y/N took a sip, only to find it was awfully made and very watered down.
“Sirius, babe, I have a headache, can we go home?”
“You didn’t have a headache a minute ago?” Sirius raises an eyebrow.
“I know, I just feel a migraine coming on. I really need to take my migraine potion before it gets bad. Please?”
Sirius sighs and nods, throwing an arm around her shoulders and kissing her temple. “Of course, babygirl.”
The pair stand from their stools but Vanessa stops them. “That’ll be 2 galleons for the tequila.”
“You said you’d give me free drinks?” Sirius placed a comforting hand on Y/N’s lower back, rubbing small circles over her shirt.
“Yeah, for you. The tequila wasn’t for you.”
“Yeah, fine, whatever.” Sirius reached into his pocket and pulled out two galleons, slamming them onto the bar.
“Can I bet on seeing you again?” A loud giggle comes from her mouth as the couple exited the building. “Maybe you can show me your tattoos.”
~
“I don’t know, Lily! She was all over him and he didn’t stop it.” Y/N bit into an apple and traced the Potters’ tablecloth. It was a month after Sirius and Y/N had visited The Silver Sickle, and Y/N couldn’t keep her anxieties to herself.
“Have you tried talking to him about it?” Lily responded, kneading a big glob of pie crust at the counter. Potter Cottage was much larger than Sirius and Y/N’s flat above Dream Puffs. Earlier that month, Lily had announced she was pregnant, so James decided it was time to upgrade from their small flat to a house fit to raise a family.
“Yes, but each time I try to bring her up he gets defensive and assures me that it was nothing, that he was trying to get free drinks.”
Lily stared down at her dough intensely before grabbing her rolling pin. “Well, I wouldn’t let him get away with it. Maybe try to ask him again tonight? Just sit down and have a real, hearts on the table conversation about your feelings and whatnot. It’s important to do that.”
“Yeah, that’s the thing. He’s been staying at work late this entire week. Apparently, one of his clients is getting a full back tattoo and it’s taking multiple sessions to finish. This is his biggest job to date, I don’t want to ruin it for him.”
“How late is late?” The mom-to-be laid the pie crust into her pan and began to trim the excess off of the edges.
“Nine, sometimes ten. He comes home exhausted.”
“Hm, okay. I’d still try to speak with him if you can. How’s your work going? St. Mungos treating you well?”
“Oh, yeah, definitely. My supervisor said that I’m one of the best beginning level healers he’s seen since Pomfrey worked in my ward,” Y/N took another bite of her apple. “I might get transferred to the branch in France for a week coming up, though. There was a big gas explosion and they have over 200 burn victims. My supervisor said it would be a good experience for me.”
“Oh, I read about that in The Prophet! Those poor people,” Lily filled the crust with apple pie filling. “I’m sure they need all the help they can get.”
“Oh, I know. I haven’t learned much about burn solvents yet, so it’ll be interesting to learn on the job.”
“Are you going this week? What a shame, it’s your birthday on Saturday.”
“Oh, no, the earliest I would be leaving is a fortnight from now. I’m kind of a last resort since I don’t have much experience or training yet.” Y/N stood and threw her apple core into the bin. “How’s JP doing at the Academy? He’s in his second year by now, right?”
“Oh, he’s doing lovely. The Order is grateful for his efforts and have been sending him on more missions than before.” Lily sighs. “It’s rather nerve wracking, isn't it? You’re lucky Sirius doesn’t get called on many.”
Y/N laughed a bit uncomfortably. “Yeah, I suppose they prefer actual Aurors to go on the calls. But when he does go, those are the worst nights. I can’t imagine having to go through that on a daily basis.”
“It’s really hard,” Lily’s voice cracks and she begins to cry. “I’m sorry, it’s the hormones.”
“Don’t apologize, Lils. I know how scary it can be. At least he's with Wormtail most of the time, yeah? They’re at the academy together and all.”
Lily takes a deep breath to control her crying. “Yes, I suppose you’re right. Thank god for Wormy.”
~
“Hello there, pretty lady. I heard there’s a 21st birthday party to be thrown?” James said happily as Y/N opened the door of the flat. Lily and Remus tailed him ever so slightly, all three wearing large grins and holding brightly wrapped packages.
“Birthday party? You guys don’t-”
James waved his hand dismissively. “We’re already here, so you’re kind of stuck with us. Peter should be here eventually.” The three push their way into the living room.
“The nice elderly woman downstairs asked me to bring you this,” Remus held out a cupcake with bright red frosting. Y/N took it happily and walked to the kitchen to set it on the counter.
“Thank you, Moony. But, really, you guys didn’t have to. Sirius isn’t even here.” Y/N felt self conscious around her friends. She was wearing an old tee shirt from her early teens, a beloved Scooby-Doo tee with a rip in the left armpit, and black yoga pants. It was safe to say Y/N was more than ready to spend her birthday alone.
“What do you mean, not here?” Remus was standing in the corner of the living room, flipping through Sirius and Y/N’s record collection. They had so many at this point that the couple was unsure which record belonged to who.
“I don’t know, he left early this morning saying he got called into work. Something about an angry customer.” Y/N felt small under the group’s gaze. “I wasn’t really paying attention, I was half asleep.”
Y/N watched as Lily and James shared a look. “I didn’t think the shop was open on Saturdays, but I guess they are.” Y/N’s shoulders lowered visibly, making Lily backtrack. “It’s the pregnancy brain, Y/N. I’ve been mixing things up for the past week and a half.”
“Right, right. Of course. Um, how’s that going, by the way?” She crossed her arms across her stomach uncomfortably.
“Oh, it’s going wonderful! We actually have something to give you, if that’s okay.”
“Wait!” James cut in. “We should wait for Wormy to get here!”
Lily hit his chest with the back of her hand. “Oh, come off it. You know how late he is to everything! Let’s do it now.” The couple led Y/N to the couch and sat on either side of her, both wearing matching shit-eating grins. Remus remained leaning against the wall, ready to flip the record when the time came. James placed a medium-sized purple box on her lap.
Y/N carefully undid the wrapping paper, prompting James to let out a loud groan.
“Any day now, woman!”
Y/N giggled. “Hey! It’s my birthday! Be nice to me!”
“I am being nice to you, Y/N! I gave you a present, didn’t I?”
Y/N bumped her shoulder with his and reached into the box. Her fingertips met with the soft fabric of a tee shirt. Upon pulling the garment out completely, she observed that the words World’s Best Godmother was printed across the front. Immediately, Y/N dropped the shirt and covered her mouth with her hand.
“Is that a yes?” Lily asked, her eyes tearing again.
“Yes! Oh my god!” Y/N’s own tears trailed down her cheeks as she hugged both tightly. “Me? Godmother?”
“I can’t think of anyone more worthy,” Remus remarked as he watched the heartwarming scene unfold in front of him. Y/N was so overwhelmed with joy that she had almost forgotten that Sirius was absent. Almost.
The party went along swimmingly from there on out; Peter had arrived shortly after Y/N unboxed Remus’ gift, a new cauldron and potion ingredients, and another gift from the Potters, a pair of gorgeous black combat boots. The mousey-boy shuffled over to Y/N and handed her a small gift bag.
“Oh? Thanks, Pete.” Y/N awkwardly pulled out the contents of the bag. “Oh, good, a gift card to Silver Sickle Bar and Eatery.” She tried to sound thankful towards the man in front of her, but the disdain was still evident in her voice.
“Sirius said it was his favorite bar, so I thought you’d like it. Maybe we can grab some lunch there, obviously my treat,” He lazily gestures to the card in her hand. “We haven’t really hung out for a while. I figured it would be nice. If you don’t like it I can get you something diff-”
Y/N cut him off with a hug, “Thank you, Peter, this was really thoughtful. Would next week work?”
“Wednesday?” He wraps his arms around Y/N’s frame for a moment before letting go.
“Wednesday works perfectly.”
The four continued to hang out well into the night; laughing, chatting, drinking, listening to music, and playing board games. As the party dragged on, Y/N couldn’t help but grow worried about Sirius’ whereabouts. Her worries were harshly pushed aside, though, when Lily suggested they play poker.
“Ugh, I fold.” Peter slams his cards down onto the coffee table and laid back onto the carpet in defeat. Y/N smirked at Remus, her only opponent, and gestured for him to show her his cards.
“Straight, beat that,” Remus says confidently. James and Peter “oooh” childishly and looked towards Y/N. It was very apparent that all of them, besides Lily, were very buzzed.
Y/N smirked and shook her head, “You play a hard bargain, Lupin. So good that I applaud you. But,” Y/N laid her hand on the table: four of a kind. “You’re just not good enough.”
The room laughs as Y/N pulls the large pile of galleons, sickles, knuts and Lily’s wedding ring towards her. Y/N slips it onto her own ring finger and holds her hand as if to admire it.
“Oh, Lily, dear, don’t you just adore my new ring? Look at how it glistens in the light!”
The redhead rolls her eyes and snatches it off of Y/N’s finger. “I’ll just be taking that,” She puts it back on.
“It will forever be known to be my legal property, Evans. Don’t forget it!”
“Does that mean I’m married to both of you now?” James smiles a dopey grin and looks back and forth between the two women. Y/N pretends to gag.
“On second thought, I surrender my rights to your ring.”
The group continued their laughter until the front door of the flat swung open. A very drunk Sirius Black stumbled in the door, dumbfounded as to why all of his friends were in his house.
“Why are you guys here?” Sirius slurred, pulling up the shoulder of his leather jacket. He bumped the record player in the process, making Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac skip.
“It’s Y/N’s birthday, Sirius,” Remus responded, his soft voice contrasting to his previously upbeat tone. Sirius slouched against the wall and slid down it until he hit the floor.
“Y/N’s birthday...Y/N’s birthday...Oh! Y/N’s birthday! Was that today?”
James was quick to jump into action. Propelling himself off of the couch, he took Sirius into his arms and brought him to a standing position. Sirius, of course, whined the entire way up, claiming that the floor wanted him to sit there. James responded with a small hum before peeling Sirius’ jacket off of his body and throwing it onto the kitchen counter. As Y/N watched, she couldn’t help but notice a bright pink smear on Sirius’ neck.
“Yes, it’s today, you big goof. Where have you been?”
Sirius went into a big flurry of words as James brought him towards the bedroom. Y/N thought she heard ‘And you should have seen her!’ amidst all the jumbled words, but she pied that off as her anxious imagination running awry. Lily’s hand found her back and she rubbed soothing circles on Y/N’s shoulder blades.
“He forgot,” Y/N said to no one in particular. “I can’t believe he actually forgot.”
“I’m sure he didn’t forget,” Lily soothed Y/N, rubbing circles into her shoulder blades. “He probably got carried away at happy hour, you know how he gets.”
“Happy hour on Y/N’s birthday though?” Peter shook his head. Something about his tone didn’t sit well with Y/N. Lily shot a glare his way.
The party did not last much longer; Remus said he had an interview with Dumbledore about a TA position at Hogwarts, Lily was tired, and Peter said that he was going on a mission tomorrow and needed rest. Y/N bid her friends farewell with large hugs and thank you’s.
It’s safe to say that Y/N slept on the couch that night.
~
Y/N awoke to sunlight in her eyes and a crick in her neck. The living room window wasn’t guarded with curtains, so even at the early hour of 4:30 AM, the room was illuminated with soft oranges, reds, and pinks. Y/N sat up and reached her hands above her head to stretch her back. She looks towards the bedroom door, listening for the soft snores of her boyfriend. Her neck screamed in agony, but she still stood and padded over to open the door.
Y/N twisted the doorknob with care, trying to be as silent as humanly possible. She needed to see Sirius, not have a conversation with him. Alas, in all his glory, Sirius lied on his stomach with his mouth hung open and drool oozing onto the pillow. The girl admired how he looked as he slept; the sharp jaw, the perfect skin, the messy hair, the peaceful look gracing his features. He still wore his skinny jeans from the day previous, but at some point during the night, he discarded his white dress shirt. Y/N’s gaze darted around the floor until it landed on the crumpled fabric.
Y/N glanced back at Sirius, admiring the artwork that filled his back. She remembered the day he got it; James cried when he first saw the gorgeous antlers. The low light highlighted the dark brown ink and seemed to make his skin appear airbrushed. Y/N smiled in spite of herself.
Closing the door softly, Y/N walks into their small kitchen to prepare some tea in order to calm her nerves. The apartment was rather messy from the ‘party’ and Y/N had to dig through endless dirty dishes to find a mug clean enough to use. Y/N finally found one, a lavender mug that Marlene had given her for her 17th birthday, and set it on the counter while she filled the kettle.
The kitchen wasn’t as dirty as Y/N previously thought. Sure, the sink was overflowing with dishes, but the kitchen itself was rather clean. And besides Sirius’ leather jacket, the counter was clear. The floor, though, was slightly sticky. Y/N sighs and flicks her wand; almost silently, the dishes start cleaning themselves.
Y/N reaches for Sirius’ jacket, only to have a squishy substance fall onto her feet. She jumps back in surprise and disgust of the weird texture. But, the real panic sets in when she notices a big red spot on not only the floor but the leather jacket. Upon further investigation, Y/N realizes it’s the frosting from the cupcake Remus had given her. Sirius was very protective of this jacket and if he saw this, Y/N would be a dead man. So, she did the only reasonable thing she could think of: scrub the material with a wet paper towel.
Thankfully, the frosting came off easily and didn’t stain the material. The only real obstacle was the sweet scent of the frosting lingering on the garment. Sirius had an insane sense of smell, so if he picked up even the slightest trail of sugar, Y/N would be busted. She delicately lifted the material to her nose.
The musky scent of Sirius filled her nose as normal; leather, smoke, cologne, and spearmint. Y/N grinned at the familiar scent until she noticed a strong rose perfume almost ingrained into the leather. Y/N’s perfume smelled of vanilla.
~
Y/N held her breath as she opened the door of the Silver Sickle, she was in no mood to see Vanessa again. All the same, Y/N put effort into her appearance just in case. She let out her breath when she noticed an old man behind the bar and Peter sitting in the corner.
“Hey,” Y/N said breathlessly as she pulled out one of the wooden chairs and sat down. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t feel a little nervous meeting Peter alone; the two seemed to rekindle their friendship after he and Sirius fought. He promised that he was just drunk and not thinking, and Y/N not wanting to cause childish conflict within their friend group, had accepted his apology.
“Hey!” He squeaked. “I didn’t know if you wanted to day drink or not, so I just ordered you a water to start off with.”
Y/N laughed awkwardly. “Thanks, Wormy.” She took a long sip from her straw, trying to slow her nervous heart. “So, uh, how’s the academy? James said you are taking more and more missions with the order.”
Peter nodded enthusiastically. “Oh, it’s great! Being an Auror is really fun, you really get to show people who’s boss, ya know?”
“Um, I guess?”
“I think they’re gonna kick me out, though. I haven’t done the best job at catching who I’m pursuing.” Peter raises his eyebrows and cocks his head to the side.
“Oh? Why not?” Y/N glanced over the menu, only half listening to what her companion was saying.
“I just like to play with them a ‘lil, like a cat and mouse. Except this time, I’m not the mouse.”
Y/N looks at a delicious looking chicken sandwich on the menu and hums in response.
“So, how are you and Sirius doing? It seemed pretty rough last week.” Peter takes a chunk of ice from his drink and starts chewing it. “If you want to talk about it, I guess.”
This brings Y/N out of her sandwich-filled thoughts. “I don’t know, to be quite honest. We haven’t spoken much and I barely see him. He leaves early in the morning...comes home late at night…” Peter nods as if he was a therapist listening to a client. “I don’t want to assume the worst but he’s making it rather difficult.”
“I wasn’t going to tell you this, because it isn’t really my business, but…” He comps down on the ice cube. “I was coming home from a mission a few nights ago and I saw him with a girl. I’m not quite sure what they were doing but it sure as hell didn’t look platonic.”
Y/N felt her entire world shatter into her lap. “What?”
“Yeah, I don’t know. She was really short with long black hair and a skimpy cocktail dress. They were walking into that club off of Coventry Street. I almost beat the fuck out of him right then and there, but there were bouncers.”
Y/N bit her trembling lip and folded her hands in her lap. Rifling through her purse, she slammed the gift card down and stood.
“Thanks for the lunch date, Peter, but I don’t feel well. I’ll talk to you later, yeah?”
“Was it something I said?!” Peter yelled at Y/N’s retreating back as she left the bar.
~
“Are you going somewhere?” Sirius asked, gesturing to Y/N’s packed suitcases by the door.
“Yup, I’m going to France for a week to aid burn victims,” Y/N finished brushing her teeth before packing her toothbrush. “Didn’t think you’d care.”
“Well, I do. You could have told me.” He leaned up against the wall and crossed his arms.
“I would have if I actually saw you.” Y/N wasn’t in the mood to argue; she had about an hour before she had to leave, and she planned on using that time to relax with a cup of herbal tea.
“What’s that supposed to mean? You see me plenty.”
“Yeah, when you’re sleeping or showering. There’s not exactly time to chat when you leave early in the morning and come home well past midnight.” Y/N walked into the kitchen and cut a slice of bread. “Oh, by the way, Caspar brought up some sourdough, if you actually want any.”
“Don’t change the subject like you always do, Y/N. I work hard to support us, you know that.”
“I work hard too. And I get home before 11 every night. I’m not exactly sure how being a healer gets you home earlier than a tattoo artist, but whatever.” Y/N buttered her now toasted sourdough.
“Sometimes a piece takes a long time, that’s not my fault! I’ve been getting big jobs recently! You should be happy for me!”
Y/N let out a harsh laugh as she poured water into the kettle. “Do you really think I’m that fucking stupid, Sirius? Really?”
“What do you mean? I think you’re rather smart.” Sirius followed Y/N into the kitchen and was leaning against the counter.
“Yeah? Then why have you been lying to me for the past, I don’t know, two months?”
“You can’t keep accusing me of things, Y/N. It’s not fucking fair!” Sirius stared holes into Y/N’s back. “For fucks sake! Look at me when I talk to you!”
Y/N whipped around, her hair fanning around her face as she spun. “You know what’s not fucking fair? Letting a girl feel you upright in front of me. Lying about going into work. Forgetting my birthday and coming home from who knows where drunk as fuck with lipstick smeared all over your neck. Coming home drenched in another girl’s perfume. Taking your fucking side chick to a strip bar while I’m sat at home wondering if you’re fucking dead because we’re in the middle of a fucking war! You don’t know the first thing about fucking unfair!”
“You’re not going to France, Y/N.” His jaw was clenched and his eyes held nothing but fire. The tone of his voice was like nothing she had ever heard before, at least not directed at her. He usually reserved it for people who yelled nasty things at her from the street, or when someone bad mouthed James. It felt foreign to hear him use it with her. Maybe she didn’t know him as well as she thought she did. “You’re not fucking going, and that’s final.”
“What are you? My fucking mother? I’m going because I’m actually doing something good for the world, unlike your cheating ass.” Y/N pushed her way past her boyfriend and towards her luggage.
“Don’t walk away from me!” Sirius followed her strides. He stopped and took a deep breath before continuing. “Y/N, darling, we need to talk about this-” His tone was notably softer than before as if he was trying to glue together shards of glass.
“Talk about what, Sirius?! How you cheated on me and won’t even deny it? How you betrayed me in the worst way fucking possible? I’m not going to let you manipulate me into putting my career on the line to work out some issue you caused.”
“What, so now I’m not important? You’re a fucking hypocrite!”
“And how exactly am I a hypocrite, Sirius? You treat me like shit and whine that I’m done putting up with it? Gonna go cry to James about how you are so upset I wouldn’t hear you out after you cheat on me? Well, go the fuck ahead because James actually has a healthy relationship with a baby on the way. He won’t sympathize with you.” Y/N grabbed the handle of her suitcase and lifted her wand. “I’ll be back in a week and once we’ve had some time to cool off, we’ll talk about this like adults. I’ll see you soon.”
Just as Y/N apperated out of the room, the kettle whistled and Sirius noticed Y/N left her half-eaten toast on the counter.
~
It was near two in the morning when Y/N returned home from France the following week. The home was cold, dark, and vacant, and the entire appearance of the small flat had changed. In a week, Sirius had managed to completely trash the house. Even the smell of freshly baked goods was replaced with the sour smell of firewhisky and sex.
Y/N ventured into the kitchen first, where she observed the large stack of dishes in the sink. Everything from to-go packages to their fine china (normal glass plates from the thrift) were stacked as high as the eye can see. Some were starting to mold and produce the most horrid smell. The stove housed the kettle where Y/N had left it, but this time it was cold and empty. Another pot that contained crusty spaghetti sat next to the kettle, and Y/N cringed at the thought of scrapping it out. She moved to the counter where her toast, now stale, sat. Y/N picked it up between two fingers and threw it into the bin.
She carried on into the living room next. The couch cushions were tossed about the room and the small fur throw was draped across the back of the couch. The record player in the corner still held the Fleetwood Mac record Moony had chosen on her birthday as if it were a time capsule; Y/N couldn't help but reminisce about how happy she was with her friends that evening. Maybe that proved that she could be happy without Sirius in her life, or maybe it served as a constant reminder that he was woven into every aspect of it.
Again, the room was covered with food wrappers and alcohol bottles. Y/N feared the liquid that remained in the bottles would leak and stain the carpet, so before moving on to the bedroom, she set each one upright.
The bedroom was what Y/N feared the most; without her presence in the home, Sirius could have been intimate with an infinite amount of girls in her own bed. She shivered at the thought but pushed on and reached towards the icy doorknob.
The room was the cleanest out of the entire flat, just various clothes scattered around the floor and a messy bed. Y/N wanted nothing more but to curl up under her warm covers and press her face into the chest of the man she loved most, but that was an impossible task. He didn’t love her anymore and that was something she had to deal with, she just wished she had savored the last time he held her.
As Y/N explored further into the room, her feet found an article of clothing that neither Sirius nor Y/N owned. Bending at the hips to pick it up, Y/N held a red, lacy v neck bra in between her fingertips. Y/N fingered the material with teary eyes. Another step forward and her feet came into contact with the matching bottoms. Y/N laid the set out neatly on the bed and wallowed; it must have looked stunning on her.
Y/N walked to the desk, where an ink well was left open and a half-written letter laid face up on the surface. She capped the ink with a wet chuckle.
“You need to cap your ink, Sirius. If you don’t it’ll dry out. I won’t be there forever to do it for you.” Y/N said aloud, wiping her running nose. She picked up the letter against her better judgment and began to read.
Prongs,
I know you’re mad at me, but please just hear me out. Vanessa is gorgeous, mate. She’s sweet and nice, but at the same time she's so witty and smart-mouthed. She even listens to Queen and the Weird Sisters!
She made me believe in love at first sight, JP.
I’m going to marry her one day, mark my words!
The ink began to run as Y/N read and cried, making small blotches of black contrast against the stark white paper. Y/N placed it onto the table and gripped the edge to steady herself. Never in her 21 years on earth had she ever felt such pain, such sorrow. Her pains were usually cushioned by Sirius’ arms and sweet slurred language in the middle of the night, or by her friends’ loud cackles. But this time, this time was different; she was alone, completely and utterly alone.
Y/N looked to the wall in order to ground herself; a small sliver of silver moonlight slashed against the wall, illuminating the otherwise dark room. Y/N traced the line with her eyes until she landed on the wooden coo-coo clock.
The clock was one of Sirius’ most prized possessions; it was a gift from his Uncle Alphard that he received when he ran away from the Black family.  Alphard was one of the few Sirius still kept in contact with, and he was a big role model to Sirius when he grew up. Debatably, Alphard was the one who taught Sirius how to be a man.
The present seemed lame on the surface, but that clock was one of Sirius’ favorite things when he was a child. Sirius had told stories of the long afternoons he would spend in front of the clock, waiting for the small, yellow bird to pop out of the top while Walburga and Orion fought in the background. Y/N respected Alphard with all of her being, but she wanted nothing more than to smash that godforsaken clock. She wanted to destroy everything that made Sirius happy, she wanted him to be under the same pain he was putting her through.
Y/N knew what she had to do at that very moment: she had to get out of London and move far, far away. So far away that no one would ever find her. So, she grabbed the extra suitcases in the flat and began to pack her things.
Starting at the record corner, she picked every single one of her belongings and shoved them into her suitcase. Y/N had to shrink a few of her belongings, such as the couch, in order to fit, but in a little less than an hour, every hint of Y/N was packed away in three large suitcases.
Y/N gave one last look at the apartment before apparating to Paris, where she knew she could start a better, more meaningful life. Maybe, she could even find a fresh bakery to supply her with warm loaves of sourdough bread.
When Sirius returned to the flat the following morning, the only remaining aspects of Y/N were a striped scarf and two galleons folded neatly on the bed next to Vanessa’s lingerie.
Tumblr media
The sun is dipping behind the horizon, colors melting against sky as the car rolls along the freeway. The majority of the younger boys are asleep in the car, it is silent, and Yeonjun is stressed out.
Of course, who wouldn’t be? He almost lost his life to something that looked like it walked straight off the set of The Walking Dead. And Yeonjun has never forgotten his weapon - ever. It’s in that moment that he knows.
He has to get rid of the girl sitting in the passenger seat. Soon.
Tumblr media
The silence is uncomfortable as he drives. Neither is speaking, and even though he isn’t looking at her, he knows she isn’t asleep.
After a few minutes of the silence ticking along with the minutes, Yeonjun feels like he is going to burst. And then, finally, she speaks.
“Listen… uh- Yanjun-”
“My name is Yeonjun.” The older boy sneers, accent thickening as he enunciates his Korean name, still annoyed. He realizes just how annoyed he always is with her.
“Right, sorry! Yeonjun.” He stays quiet, letting her go on.
“I’m really sorry for what happened back there. I may have overreacted a little bit.”
Yeonjun scoffs as she continues, “And I just want to thank you for saving my life. I really appreciate it.”
The girl sticks her hand out as if he’s not driving, and after he gives it a side glance, she retracks it.
“Maybe we can be friends, you know, work together?”
Yeonjun almost swerves off the freeway at 90 MPH.
“Here’s how this is gonna work...” He searches her eyes for a second, noticing how she sits up straighter. She replies quickly with a, “Y/N.”
“Okay, Y/N, this isn’t some fucked up stockholm syndrome situation. I didn’t tie you up and throw you in the back of my Jeep because I thought you were too precious to save, and I definitely didn’t do it because I wanted you with us. I did it because it was the only option, got it?”
The girl blinks at him.
“It was the only option, and at this point you’re just deadweight to us now, okay? We aren’t going to work together, and we sure as hell aren’t going to be friends.”
It’s silent for a lot longer this time, before Yeonjun hears the girl reply back in a whisper, “If I’m just deadweight to you, why did you save me?”
“Jun, where are we?” Soobin grumbles suddenly from the backseat, stirring a bit as he starts to wake up.
“Just about there, Soobin. Go back to sleep.” Yeonjun replies as he pulls off of I-86 and into what seems like the local college town of the area. He decides to ignore the girl’s question as he turns on the radio. Of course, it’s just the low sound of static, but it’s better than listening to her questions again.
The farther Yeonjun drives into the town, the more he starts to notice the tattered college flags hanging from the unlit street lamps, and all of the broken windows in every building they pass. As he drives with caution, Yeonjun can tell how eerily quiet it is, apart from the radio. He spots the girl looking out the window, and decides to do the same, allowing himself to survey their surroundings.
A few home style diners and restaurants dot the blocks they pass, along with small gas stations (probably empty), and a few fast food places as well. The road guides him to a gentle curve, and then he realizes that he’s going in the direction of an underpass. For some insane reason he doesn’t completely understand, the lights along the inside leading to the other side are on, and they guide him to something that is shocking for him to see. The underpass opens back up at the end in a way Yeonjun can only feel like exiting a time machine would be. The tunnel cuts off, barren and with the walking path fences on either side rusted and destroyed.
But that’s not the part Yeonjun is paying attention to.
The buildings are breathtaking. They are old stone, brick, and clearly had been worked on to keep their vintage roots. One of the buildings on the right has huge archway windows on the second floor, which the moon reflects off beautifully. The street lamps are winded with decorative mistletoe, but the ribbons attached are tattered and almost black. Yeonjun sees what used to be bars, restaurants, all different colors. Green, red, and a pretty maroon color. He’s almost sad to see all of this - to get a glimpse of the real world back in front of him.
The farther he drives, the worse it gets. The town is beautiful, and he can only imagine how beautiful it used to be in the world before.
“This is old town.” The girl says softly from the passenger seat as Yeonjun approaches a huge park, even more trees on display and decorative lamps. He almost thinks he sees a fountain before he looks back at the girl.
“What did you say?”
“Old town. Like, downtown. The original one for the city.”
“How…” Yeonjun is surprised the girl knows as his curiosity intensifies.
“I uh… I used to live here. I went to college here.” She clarifies, avoiding his gaze now.
The older boy is even more surprised than he was before. She looked old enough to be in college, but he didn’t even consider it. Someone else having a life before all of this, much like he did. He never considered it until now.
“Up ahead it’ll take you to the fairly decent houses, lots of cops and bankers used to live on this side of town, but the houses will be trashed most likely. The long road past that will take you up the mountain to the super rich houses on top. Those might have some food and supplies, but it’s more dangerous. The high school is to the right, but the college is back around the way we came. Up to you.” She nods, not speaking anymore. Yeonjun is surprised she’s even helping him, but he hadn’t thought that far ahead.
“Thank you.” He says awkwardly, turning back around the way they came. He figures the college is their best bet. More buildings to search for safety in, and all relatively close to the gas stations.
She says nothing as he makes his way back toward the college.
Tumblr media
The drive to the campus is somehow more tense than before, and Yeonjun is grateful when they finally pull into the main parking lot, in front of a building labeled, Museum of Natural History.
“The SUB is up ahead.” The girl speaks flatly, and Yeonjun gives her a confused look.
“Student Union Building. They have an event center inside, super spacious, just incase.” She clarifies, looking at him again.
“Sorry, I just never went to college before this all happened…” He explains, finally parking the Jeep.
The parking lot extends to a walkway that goes under the second floor of the SUB, and Yeonjun finds himself parking there to keep the car hidden. It’s almost like the whole slab of the SUB’s second floor is covering the walkway for a few yards, and then connects to the neighboring Museum’s second floor too. Past the end of it all, he sees a grand cement staircase leading up to the side door of the building. It’s perfect.
He pushes the gearstick into park and finally cuts the engine, sitting silent for a few moments.
The smaller girl is still gazing out the windshield, eyes scanning along the huge quad slowly.
“Is it weird to be back here?” Yeonjun doesn’t know why he asks, but he can clearly see the girl is visibly upset as she has her hands bundled in fists.
Without answering, she unlatches her seatbelt, swings open the door, and steps into the cold. After her feet hit the ground and she slams the door closed, the rest of the boys in the back groggily come to.
“We’re here.” Yeonjun sighs, turning on the upper light and pocketing the keys, “Grab your stuff, we’re setting up camp for the night.”
And then he’s getting out of the car himself, slamming his door and heading for the trunk.
Tumblr media
“Hyung look, there’s a giant tiger statue back there!” Kai says with excitement, motioning back through the door they just came in through.
“It’s a Bengal.” Y/N corrects the youngest boy before leading the group farther in the empty building. The inside is pitch black, but the moonlight allows Yeonjun to see their surroundings, just barely.
To their right there is a huge staircase leading to the lowest level of the building, and a long hallway filled with multiple tables and chairs, like a huge eating area. Next to the help desk in front of them, small restaurants are grouped side by side as the window parallel shines even more light on all of the walls. The girl drags them to the left, taking them toward the offices and hallway that lie ahead.
“Fuck.” She says when she finally sees the door. It is bolted shut, with wooden planks and furniture piled against it. There is no way they’re getting in.
“Plan B?” Yeonjun asks annoyingly, making the girl brush past him, feet stomping along the way.
“Shut the fuck up, will you?” She snaps as she drags them back past all the small food places, leading them toward a staircase near the side of the building. Yeonjun can’t help but make another snarky comment at her. Soobin laughs under his breath. The youngest boys look shocked.
“Doesn’t this place have elevators?”
She glares at him when he speaks again, and juts her chin to the elevator along the right wall as they walk into the stairwell, saying nothing as she climbs up the stairs.
The boys all follow her, saying nothing at their interaction.
“Hey, Y/N, do you know where we’re going now?” Soobin speaks up, his voice timid as he catches up to the angry girl.
“Yep. Clearly the elevators don’t work but the top floor is our safest bet. There are tons of big rooms where we’ll be safe in. Unless you guys wanna spend the night in the bowling alley or the movie theater.” She throws in the last options offhandedly, knowing both will just be annoying to settle down for the night.
The two youngests perk up at this though, all voicing their excitement.
“There’s really a bowling alley and a movie theater here? This place was so awesome.”
“It is awesome.” Y/N clarifies, swallowing thickly before she leads the rest of the boys up the remainder of the flights.
Once on the top floor, Yeonjun knows why the girl chose it for their spot. There are dozens of lined rooms down the hall on either of them, and huge windows that show the entire campus and more, the land extending for miles upon miles. He can even see the mountain just off campus, trees swaying in the wind.
“Here you go.” She says, finally shrugging off the backpack she was actually able to retrieve from the trunk, “Home sweet hallway.”
The largest room is to their right, which gives them a view of both doors on either side of the hallway. Yeonjun nods a bit before appointing the group to set up their own sleeping bags and spaces.
The three youngest always stick together, all chatting about whatever is on their mind as they set up their sleeping bags, and Yeonjun notices that Soobin is back to chatting with Y/N easily, saying something he can’t pick up as he starts laying out his sleeping bag as well.
It’s like that for a few minutes, all of the boys laying out their sleeping bags, whipping their blankets in the air to get it into shape before laying it on the thin material of their makeshift bed. Yeonjun honestly cannot wait to sleep. He’s so tired, he doesn’t even think much about the fact that they can’t eat dinner. He hopes they will be able to find some food tomorrow.
“Hey Jun?” Soobin asks, catching the attention of the older boy as he looks up toward him.
“Where is Y/N going to sleep?”
All eyes settle on the girl sitting criss-cross on the floor, shivering lightly with her coat draped over her shoulders. Soobin frowns at Yeonjun before motioning toward her obviously, and the older boy just sighs.
“It’s not my problem Soob-”
“She can sleep in my sleeping bag if she wants.” The younger boy offers, already looking back toward the girl again. Yeonjun feels his heart leap up into his throat. He has to try hard to not eagerly deny the fact that she very much cannot sleep with Soobin.
It’s not that Soobin is a bad guy - quite the opposite actually. And the last thing Yeonjun needs is to hear the girl giggling from Soobin’s goofy antics all night long. No, he will not have that.
“She’ll sleep with me.” Yeonjun says firmly, nodding before he kicks off his shoes and places them next to his flimsy little blanket layers on the ground.
“Not happening.” Y/N finally speaks up, glaring at Yeonjun, “I’d rather get mauled by a zombie.”
“Be my guest then, that is, if you don’t freeze first.”
Yeonjun grins sarcastically at the shivering girl, and even though she is wearing multiple layers, he knows she’lll still be freezing if she doesn’t contain enough heat to get her through the night.
“Jun.” Soobin tries to interject, but the blue-haired boy just glares at him.
“Not a debate, Soobin. Go to sleep.”
The tallest boy looks sadly at the girl, before turning on his back away from her. The rest of the boys do the same, leaving her shivering in silence.
Tumblr media
Yeonjun doesn’t know what time it is when he feels movement from his side. His eyes snap open in fear quick enough, though, and he almost reaches for his bat next to him before a soft voice breaks through the darkness.
“Jesus, relax. It’s just me.”
The girl’s teeth are chattering as she crawls under the layers of blankets Yeonjun has above his body, and he doesn’t say anything as the side of her body is suddenly flush against his.
“Thought you’d rather be mauled to death.” He rasps, still half asleep as he nuzzles further into the blanket.
“Shut up, will you?” The girl responds, voice still low so she doesn’t wake the others.
It is quiet for a while, both of them just breathing together. Yeonjun doesn’t know if it’s awkward, but he’s too tired to care. After driving for so long, it starts to take its toll.
“Yeonjun?” The girl says softly, causing the older boy to glance over at her. She sighs before speaking again, “Who were you before all of this?”
The boy blinks at her, mind reeling before he stares up at the tiled ceiling again.
Does he want to do this? Does he really want to open up to the girl who he can’t help but fight with every single second?
He doesn’t have much of a choice as he opens his mouth, and his exhausted body starts speaking honestly.
“I lived in Korea.” He explains, but he doesn’t know why she cares enough to ask. He doesn’t know why he cares enough to explain. He wouldn’t have asked about her, but it’s clear she had other intentions.
“I worked for a company called Big Hit. It’s like a company that trains and creates Idols. Kind of like celebrity performers.”
The girl listens intently to his words, not speaking as he goes on.
“This was our first debut, coming to America. I always dreamed about coming back. I studied in California for a few years when I was younger, but it was always my dream to come back. You know you’ve made it when you make it in America.”
Yeonjun shifts to his side to get more comfortable, and suddenly realizes how close they actually are. He can feel the girl’s breath across his cheeks, and he has to keep himself from pulling away with anxiety.
“I- um… the rest of the boys were in a group with me. We were all idols. But when the virus hit, we got stranded here. Our managers died in a car accident, and we were lucky to make it out alive. We all just want to go back home.”
He doesn’t know why, but somehow he can’t stop. Maybe it’s the way she’s looking at him, listening, or because he hasn’t talked to anyone like this in a long time.
“I loved dancing. I trained as an Idol for years, but it was all worth it because I loved it. Before all of this, I studied really hard, and I enjoyed hip hop the most. It was my favorite to dance to. Just being able to move my body freely to the music, I loved every second of it.”
Yeonjun stops now, not really knowing what else to say. He feels embarrassed, a bit flustered, and he tries to take the attention off of him as he asks, “Who were you before all of this, Y/N?”
The girl is still, eyes glossed over as she bites her lip a bit. Yeonjun can see it’s hard for her to talk about it, but she still does. She still opens up to him, because he did to her.
“I was… I was a student. I worked my ass off at community college to come here, and I got scholarships and grants just to be able to live here on my own. I had a rough time in high school, but college was supposed to change everything for me. I was living alone, trying to make friends, and just attempting to start my life. I came from a small town, where people get trapped like poison. No one comes out of my hometown unless they’re willing to risk everything for it.”
Yeonjun can feel his heart beating steadily against his ribcage as the girl speaks, and he can’t help but feel understood by her. He takes a deep breath to stomp the feeling down.
“I remember I was so excited to finally start. I was studying marketing and creative writing. I loved writing so much, I was so excited to be able to do what I loved. It may not seem like much, this town, but it’s all I had. It was the only chance I had at becoming someone else - someone better.”
She looks over at Yeonjun suddenly, and is surprised when he nods for her to continue.
“I grew up in this state my whole life, and my only goal was to leave. All I ever wanted was to leave.”
The smaller girl can’t help but get choked up, taking a few deep breaths to calm herself down. Yeonjun easily slides the blanket farther over her shoulder, hoping the softness will comfort her a bit.
It takes a bit for her to finish, but once she does, Yeonjun knows she is exhausted.
“So that was it. I made it here, and then the virus stole it all from me. My education, my family. All the hope I had. Just… gone.” She says, eyes now closed as she lies next to him. He doesn’t know what to say, and he truly doesn’t think anything he can say will make her feel any better.
“You should rest.” He whispers to her, hand moving up before he realizes what he’s doing.
Before Yeonjun knows it, he’s wrapping his arm halfway across the girl, holding across her chest in a hug, his hand holding onto her right shoulder gently.
He slightly expects her to swear at him. He also expects her to punch him in the face.
She does neither.
Instead, her breathing evens out, and she falls asleep like that. With her body finally warm next to Yeonjun’s, and a single tear slipping down the side of her cheek.
Yeonjun allows himself to fall into a deep slumber soon after.
After all, tomorrow, they have to get a move on.
Chicago Lightning
Summary: You and the rest of the Mud Dogs plan a heist on a bank, and end up getting into a pretty serious gun fight. It’s way different from what you usually attempt, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.
[A/N: Good evening, fellow Mud Dogs enjoyers <3 These three live in my head rent FREE and by god, I’m gonna make that everyone else’s problem.]
Content Warnings: Gunfights, mild arson, copious swearing, crime, and the fear of death. Nobody dies, and there’s a happy ending. <3
Pairing: Mud Dogs/Reader (Platonic/Familial)
Word Count: 1572
God, your ears are gonna be fucking ringing tomorrow. Whoever suggested staging a robbery is certainly going to get a verbal beating, if you even make it out of here in the first place. The deafening “crack” of a bullet tearing by instinctively pushes you further into the white, porcelain countertop, and you blindly fire a few rounds from behind cover. Your ears ring at the noise, and your legs ache dully from crouching down for so long.
“What’s the plan?” You yell, glancing nervously towards the pillar where Leonard’s taking cover.
“I don’t know!” he yells back, “Give me a minute to think!” He taps his fingers against the muzzle of the glock, eyes glancing around the building. Dust from ricocheting bullets clouds the air, sending pits of granite and porcelain dust through the room. The light filters through them, although just barely so. You hardly even recognize the building anymore, you think to yourself. Leonard fires a few shots from behind the pillar before taking cover once more, looking up at the ceiling with furrowed brows.
“Hate to burst your bubble, Loathsome,” Danny yells from your left, “But we’re already a bit behind the eight ball here. We don’t have time to spare!”
“Yeah, no shit!” Mickey yells, “And I’m not really in my element, either.” He fires off a couple shots, and the recoil from the gun is obvious despite his white-knuckle grip on the firearm. He scowls, turning to fire off a few more shots from the other side of the counter. What he lacks in experience he makes up for in pure gusto.
“Easy on the lightning, pal!” Danny calls, “we ain’t exactly armed to the teeth, here. If we run out of ammo, we’re screwed!”
“I’ve got it!” Leonard yells to you, “Grab those bottles of hand sanitizer off the counter and throw ‘em to Mickey. We’re gonna light it on fire, throw it at ‘em, and bolt for the back.”
“Then what?” You say, grabbing the bottles and throwing them to your friend.
“Steal a fucking car, I guess? What else?”
“Sounds good to me!” Mickey calls. His eyes light up as he disassembles the bottles, twisting and turning a few paper bills to create a sizable fuse that leads out of the liquid disinfectant, like the true firebug he is. If they land just right, it should spread quickly enough to get out of control. If they land perfectly, that is. But you’re not gonna have time to tell, are you? You just have to pray that it does, and if it doesn’t, that it burns hot enough to stall them. Oh, how you’re lamenting skipping out on that oxidation unit in chemistry class.
“Just tell me when!” He shouts, although you can barely hear him over the crack of yet another bullet flying by, a little too close for comfort.
You look back towards the emergency exit, steeling yourself to run. The bright red sign flickers slowly, just barely clinging to life after being struck with a stray bullet. You tear your eyes away from the door, glancing at your friends nervously. The air between all of you isn’t peaceful: not by any means. But it’s full of understanding: An understanding that if there’s any real, perfect way to go out, it would be right here. Danny’s grip tightens on his gun, and the tip of his tail twitches slightly, as though he were fighting the sensation entirely. Leonard’s eyes flit around the room quickly, scowling down the opposition on the other side of the building. Yet when he turns to the rest of you, his eyebrows soften. And Mickey’s apprehension… God, he’s doing a great job of hiding it. He smiles brightly, but the look in his eyes clearly conveys his thoughts. His fingers twitch around the plastic bottle, peeling at the wrapper as though looking for something to tether him to the world. The pops of your enemy’s guns might as well be static, for all you care.
But it’s the chipping of porcelain, the crack of a supersonic bullet whizzing past you, and the pop of yet another gun that brings you out of your stupor. The corner of the porcelain countertop chips off and falls to your feet, and you can feel your heart leap into your chest. Had you been leaning out any farther, you’d be dead. Your breath catches in your throat, and you throw yourself deeper into cover. You whip your head around to Leonard, steeling your nerves and throwing him a firm nod.
“On three!” He shouts.
“One!”
Inhale. You’re all gonna be okay.
“Two!”
Exhale. You shoot one last look at your friends and set your eyes on the door.
“Three!”
Mickey shocks the flammable paper leading out of the bottle and chucks it towards the entrance of the building the moment it forms a strong and steady flame. And for a moment, the world moves in slow motion. It arcs wildly, but the flame persists nonetheless, crawling its way into the bottle. It hits the ground with a thunk - much less grand than your traditional molotov, you remark sarcastically - and splatters. The flame jumps from puddle to puddle, quickly spreading out of control. The rest of the containers are thrown haphazardly, which only fuels the intense and wild flames: it eats at the carpet, the walls, anywhere it can reach. And with that, all four of you bolt towards the exit.
Your feet pound against the carpet, and you’re the first to reach the door. You ram your shoulder against the bar, opening it quickly for everyone to follow out. You bolt for the nearest car, looking back once to make sure everyone’s made it out. And sure enough, they have. The nearest car is an old four-door, and you pray to every deity you can think of as you race towards it. You shoot at the passenger side window, shattering the glass almost instantly, and you throw your hand through the jagged pieces to unlock the car as quickly as possible. You throw open the car door, ripping off your jacket and throwing it over the broken glass on the seat before patting around the car for a spare key. You don’t have any fucking time to hotwire the damn thing, and who the fuck knows what year this thing is from?
You breathe a sigh of relief when you find it and clamber into the car, jamming the jagged end of the key into the ignition and smiling as the car roars to life. Danny is the second to reach the car, sliding over the hood to hop in the passenger side. Mickey is the third, as Leonard runs behind him, providing covering fire for the smaller man. You reach behind your seat, pulling up the lock for him to tear open the door. And with that, Leonard runs the final few feet to the car, throwing himself in the door that’s already open and sliding in next to Mickey. You don’t waste a second, throwing the car into reverse before speeding out of the lot.
The force throws you harshly back into your seat, but you can’t help but laugh. “We made it out! Holy shit!” You put the pedal to the metal, gripping the steering wheel tightly as you floor it down the street. The buildings zip by so fast that they’re hardly more than a blur, and you revel in the adrenaline rush. The boys laugh alongside you, still reeling from their escape. You swerve off the small street and onto the highway; hopefully, you’ll be able to turn off onto the countryside at some point and find a remote place to lie low while the heat dies down. A farmhouse would be nice, you hum to yourself, although who really knows where you’ll end up this time?
Mickey leans forward through the armrest. “Dude,” he laughs, “that was the coolest shit ever!”
“We almost died,” Danny chuckles, dragging his hand along the armrest, flicking off little pieces of glass as he goes, “But I have to admit... it was pretty incredible.”
“See? I told you guys I had it all figured out,” Leonard says, “And look at all this fucking cash! Even after Big Mama’s cut, we’re still gonna be rich.”
“And did you see how quickly that fire spread? You might as well have doused the damn building in Everclear!” Mickey laughs, “Something tells me that place won’t be there tomorrow.”
The highway is practically abandoned, perhaps because of the recent events. And for that, you’re thankful. You’re sure that in a few minutes you’ll be chased down by those blue and red lights, but for now, everything is okay. You press the pedal down as far as you can, making as much distance as possible before the chase starts up once more, and you chuckle. Danny rests his arm on the window, picking up little pieces of shattered glass off of his seat and throwing it out onto the highway. That’ll be someone else’s problem then, you think to yourself. He meets your gaze with a smile, and you return it happily. Mickey and Leonard shove each other playfully in the back seat as they rifle through the duffle bags, presumably counting your earnings.
“So,” you muse, “how many days do you think it’ll take before we can go to a restaurant without getting arrested?”
The Robins as...
Tumblr media
DICK:
If truth be told, he’s not that fond of being in the driver’s seat on these trips. After all, he’s usually the one who initiates them, and being at the wheel robs him of some bonding time with his siblings while in transit.
Tim: “Now, Simon says, try to reach the little toe of your left foot with the little finger of your right hand from the back --”
Dick: *starts to do as Tim says*
BatRV: *swerves dangerously close to a cliff*
Jason: “Uh, you’re NOT PART OF THE GAME, DICKWAD!”
Dick: *regains control of the vehicle* “Whoops, sorry!”
Dick: *smirks* “You just don’t want me to win.”
Damian: “One of these days we’re leaving you at home, Grayson.”
His taste in music... Okay, it’s not that bad. Once in a while it’s even really good. But what drives everyone else restless is that his playlists are on repeat.
Damian: *in the passenger seat, reaching out for the console*
Dick: *wiggles his finger at Damian* “Uh uh uuuuh! You know the consequence of touching that dial.”
Damian: *retracts his hand and sulks* “-Tt- I’m not interested in your hour-long hugs.”
Dick: “Okay, that’s a teeny bit hurtful, Little D. But, guys, this stuff helps me stay awake. And since you’re not letting me join any of your games...”
Jason: *grabbing fistfuls of his own hair* “I swear, Goldie, one more ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ and I’m leavin’ this loco --”
Tim: *grabbing his backpack and his Bathoverboard* “Want me to come with you?”
Dick: *activates the Child Lock* “This is why you bring that hoverboard?”
>>>---<<<
JASON:
He might as well have coined the phrase “pedal to the metal” because when he’s at the wheel, you can expect the travel time to be cut by at least half (when it’s done properly, that is).
Dick: *sheepishly waving at the horrified cashier lady as he whispers to Jason* “When I said ‘Let’s drive-through’, this wasn’t what I meant, Jay...”
Damian: *shaking his head at what’s left of the wall at the Batburger drive-through lane* “Todd, remind me to thank you for delaying our vacation for at least another hour and a half.”
Jason: *revving up the engine* “Then maybe next time we don’t take the Batmonster truck when it’s my turn to drive, huh?”
Tim: *returns to the truck after speaking with the manager and grabs a checkbook from his backpack* “I hope Bruce likes owning a fast food chain.”
As much as he’s in a hurry when he’s driving to their destination, he sure takes his sweet time on the way back home. By then, everyone else is already worn out from all the fun they’ve had and he welcomes the peace that comes with it.
Dick: *in the backseat, snoring lightly*
Tim: *in the passenger seat, mumbling in his sleep*
Jason: *grins as he secretly admits to himself that trips like this were worth it, right before he notices the bloody roadkill in their path, which induces a flashback of -- *
Jason: *hits the brakes suddenly, causing the truck to jerk forward*
Dick: *shifts positions, then resumes snoring*
Tim: *wipes slobber off his face, then remains unconscious*
Damian: “Todd.”
Jason: *breathing heavily* “Damian? You’re up?”
Damian: “I haven’t slept.”
Jason: “Well, it’s still a long way out, little buddy. Go to sleep.”
Damian: “Perhaps... you could use the company.”
Jason: “... Okay.”
Damian: “Okay.”
>>>---<<<
TIM:
Backseat driver. Literally.
Jason: *staring at the self-steering wheel in front of him, frowning* “So... What am I supposed to do here, Timbo?”
Tim: *reclining the backseat until his legs are up, then puts his hands behind his head as he relaxes into it* “Nothing. That’s the beauty of it.”
Dick: *shaking his head, amused* “You’re no fun.”
Tim: *sips coffee from his guzzler helmet* “Oh, yeah? Activate ‘Mask of Zorro’ protocol. Code 1940.”
Windshield: *morphs into a projection screen and starts playing a movie*
Damian: “Perhaps you're not totally useless after all, Drake.”
He doesn’t “text and drive”. Oh, goodness, no... That’d be too easy. (Also, his concept of a “vacation” is a bit muddled.)
Tim [speaking into the Bluetooth headset]: “No, Lucius, I totally get that, but if LexCorp stock were to plummet --” *rattles on in corporate jargon as he navigates through a myriad of encrypted folders on his laptop (which is expertly balanced on the dashboard) with one hand and steers the BatSUV with the other*
Damian: *in the passenger seat, gesturing to Tim* “Pennyworth repeatedly brings up that one time I read an urgent text message from Superboy while driving and he gets away with this behavior?”
Dick: “First of all, technically, you shouldn’t even be driving yet. And, secondly, trust me, Tim’s gonna have his day in court with Alfred.”
Tim: “Hack into it? You’re asking me if I can hack into Luthor’s system?” *turns on his hologram projector, which instantly generates a virtual map of the entire LexCorp database* “Do robins fly --” *pauses, then nods his head slowly and shuts off the projector* “Oh... You’re telling me I shouldn’t do that. Got it.”
Jason: *grabs a handful of popcorn from a bowl before passing it to Dick, who’s in the backseat with him* “Why doesn’t he just activate that autopilot crap again?”
Dick: *shrugs* “Boy Wonder loves a challenge.”
>>>---<<<
DAMIAN:
Sure, he drives. But only when they’ve gotten at least fifty miles away from Bruce and Alfred and have ensured that all tracking devices have been disabled (at least to the best of their knowledge).
Damian: *frantically searching the Batcampervan while they’re parked at an abandoned gas station in the middle of nowhere* “Where are those boots --” *looks up to see Jason holding them above his head* “Todd, you piece of $#^% --”
Dick: “Hey. Language.”
Damian: “You’d rather I break Todd’s bones, Grayson?”
Jason: *smirks* “Say you’re the mediocre Robin and I’ll give them back.”
Tim: *sniggers* “Oh, what’s the matter, tiny bird? Can’t reach the pedals without them?”
Damian: *clenching his fists* “When I’m through with the both of you, you’ll have those pedals jammed down your --”
Dick: *checks his watch and sighs* “That’s enough, guys. Let Damian drive. It's his turn. And we’re running late.”
And since he also inherited his father’s “drama queen gene"...
Tim: *staring at the clouds through a window in the Batjet* “What part of road trip didn’t you get, brat?”
Damian: “You’re free to jump off at any time, Drake. I’ll even open the hatch for you.”
Dick: “Bruce is gonna pop a vein when he finds out this thing’s missing from the Batcave, but I have to say... Not bad, Little D.”
Tim: *rolls his eyes* “Because you wanna jump.”
Dick: *smirks as he adjusts his jumpsuit and puts on goggles* “Because I wanna jump.”
Jason: *strapping on a parachute* “Man, I don’t remember the last time we did this just for fun, and not for ‘justice’ or whatever. Now, open that hatch, baby!”
Damian: *with smug grin on his face* “Say I’m the excellent Robin and I’ll open it.”
Hey, @nocanonhere, I’m sorry it took a while for me to answer this Ask. It was honestly a fun suggestion. Thank  you!
P.S. While it did occur to me to feature other Batfamily members (since I love the idea of them being on family trips), my sleep-deprived brain cells only had enough energy to focus on these four. I’m hoping to expound on this idea someday soon, though.
************
It all happened so fast. The rain felt like pellets on your back and the wind sprayed the droplets onto your face, making the strand of your hair stick to your forehead. You had to close your eyes for just a second and that's when Keanu swerved out of the way as a black BMW ran the stop sign ahead. He maneuvered the bike as best as he could. With all his years of training, he was the best probability if ever you were to be in an accident.
But as he jerked to the right, the slickness of the pavement made the grip of the tires useless and he lost control.
"Keanu!" You yelled and held tight to his waist and buried your face in his jacket.
"Hold on!" He shouted back and slowed down as best he could. He released his grip and instead grabbed you into a tuck and roll. He grasped you in his possession and shielded you from the fall.
You felt the impact to the ground instantaneously and prayed that the pain that seared through the impact would be temporary. You heard him grunt loudly as he took the majority of the fall for you. The scrap of metal reverberated in your eardrums and you grimaced at the thought of damaging his beloved motorcycle. The rain pounded harder onto your laying bodies on the street. You could hear cars whizz by and the splash from their tires against the curb. You were frightened, out of your element. But also reassured from his protection. He had given up the bike in efforts to make sure you were safe. You felt a sense of relief that he cared like that, but then also remorse as you were worried about his favorite motorcycle.
He groaned as he held you tight, "Y/N? Are you okay?"
His voice shaken as you nod and sniff, the helmet heavy on your pounding head. He let out a sigh of relief.
"What about you?"
He nods, "Yeah...I'm alright." He groaned again and you could tell he was saving face.
The two of you lay there for a few seconds and you hear people slowly approaching.
"Omigosh, are you guys okay?" A stranger asks.
"That guy came out of nowhere!" Another pipes up. Keanu says you are and the tinnitus hits for a second and you're unable to hear what is going on.
***
The garage door’s rollers rumbled as it closed and you both walked into the house, sheltering yourself from the downpour.
Keanu peels his leather jacket and places it in the foyer as well as his boots. You slip your shoes off and place your purse on a chair and slip off your jacket, laying it next to his.
"This day is just out of this world," he says and shakes off the excess rain from his hair. He groaned as there's a stiffness to his shoulder blade. He massages it with his hand and tries to loosen the muscle unsuccessfully.
"Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital? I'd feel a lot better. They could take a look at your shoulder and check for any internal bleeding…"
He shakes his head no, "It's okay, Y/N. I've been in far worse accidents in my lifetime. I'm just glad you're okay...I don't know what I'd do had you gotten hurt."
You smile slightly at his endearment, but feel guilty still.
"And the bike, it's not too much damage?"
"Nah, just a little buffering out here and there," he replies as he holds his shoulder with his opposing hand.
“Let me start a fire and give you some extra clothes. By this time tonight you’ll have gone through my whole wardrobe,” he jokes as you snicker.
He gazes at you momentarily and you shiver slightly, springing him back to reality. “Be back.”
You nod and peer down the hallway admiring some architecture photographs of the house.
You’re reminded this isn’t his actual house, that he’s most likely renting it while on his project, but you’re still enamored. You're still in his presence. No one will believe your serendipitous encounter with the movie star. It all feels like a dream anyway. You rub your forearm and try to gain some heat, but your jeans are soaked and it’s difficult to move around.
“Keanu?” you call out down the hall.
“Yeah?” he shouts back.
“Sorry, I’m just freezing…” you cringe and you feel like you’re being a nuisance.
He appears around the corner, changed into black sweats. He's kept his white t-shirt on from earlier and even though he's in a casual form, it's intimate.
"Here, I found some extra sweats," he says and hands you a pair of grey pants. "Do you need a sweater?"
"Yeah, I'm pretty chilled," you reply as you accept the pants. "I'm just gonna go change, that okay?"
"Sure, by all means. I'll be in the living room with that sweater," he says and you turn around to go change your clothes.
*
A short while later you walk down the hall in his oversized sweats, still wearing his black shirt from before as well and you bite your lip from beyond belief that you're spending the whole day with him.
You hear the crackle of the fireplace as you enter the open spaced living room. He's sitting on the leather couch facing the fire with a glass of red wine in hand.
He turns his attention to you as you enter, "Hey." He gets up slowly as you can tell he's in a bit of pain and hands you a black ARCH hoodie and a glass of red wine.
"Thank you," you flirt as you pull the hoodie over your senses and are enlightened with the hint of his cologne: woodsy, warm, and ephemeral. You could die right there and be in bliss.
"Not too early for wine, is it?" He asks genuinely.
"No, definitely not," you smile and bring the glass to your lips and take a sip.
"Good, I think we deserve it from what we've been through."
"Thanks for this...and the fire. It's all very inviting."
"Of course. I'd be beside myself if you caught a chill on my account."
You nod and he ushers you to the couch, placing his hand gently on the small of your back.
"My sweatshirt looks good on you," he says and you notice some blood on the back of his shoulder blade.
"Oh no, Keanu…" you say and place the wine glass on the end table.
He takes a sip and looks back to you, "Yeah?"
"There's...there's blood on your shirt. You hurt yourself from the fall."
"Really? I didn't feel anything," he peers over and tries to take a look.
"Do you have a first aid kit?"
"I think there is one in the kitchen…" he slowly gets up and you grab his forearm.
"No, let me. You have given me enough hospitality to last a lifetime. It's the least I can do. Drink your wine and relax."
He grins and relents as you head to the kitchen. You rummage around and finally find a kit underneath the sink.
"Alright, now are you going to be a good patient?" You say and cock your brow.
"No promises," he laughs and shakes his index finger at you.
You sit next to him on the leather couch, "Alright, let's see the damage."
He peels his shirt off from the collar as all men do, least they are aware of how sexy the act is. You try not to hitch a breath, but your eyes wander as the peep of his ab muscles are exposed and his shoulders are defined and hard.
You see the cuts from his shoulder and open the kit for an antiseptic.
"What's the verdict, doc?" He asks as he holds his crumpled shirt in his hand and drinks his wine with the other.
"You'll live," you kid as you grab a cotton ball and apply the antiseptic to it and lightly dab it on his cuts.
He flinched slightly, but refrained from making any movements.
"So tell me about your other accidents," you ask as you continue first aid.
"Hmm, well once as I was going through the canyon, I lost control and got this," he points to a thick scar rising vertically up his stomach.
You frown and continue to gently cleanse away the blood from his back.
"That was in LA?"
"Yeah, I call it a demon ride. That’s when things are going badly. But there’s other times when you go fast, or too fast, out of exhilaration.”
"Were you speeding? I heard that canyon has insane blind spots," you ask and add an ointment to his cuts.
"Heh, you could say so. The turn I hit was unexpected. I remember saying in my head, ‘I’m going to die.’"
"Shit, Keanu…"
He shakes his head,“I remember calling out for help. And someone answering out of the darkness, and then the flashing lights of an ambulance coming down. This was after a truck ran over my helmet. I took it off because I couldn’t breathe, and a truck came down. I got out of the way, and it ran over my helmet.”
"So why do you still ride?" You laugh. "That would have scared me for life."
"Well, it taught me something. Something not to do, y'know? Something that taught me how to react with what happened today? Today I leaned into the turn when the car came out and released the break. If I hadn't had that experience in the canyon, I wouldn't be the rider I am today."
"Well I'm glad you're okay...from that ride...from any ride you have trouble with."
"Thanks...I'm glad, too. While I probably have some wild rides left in me, I wouldn't ever want to place you in danger."
You both are still and quiet from his words. The fire continued to crackle and you looked through the kit for gauze and tape.
You cough into your fist and are slightly embarrassed that he would say something so sweet as that to you. You hardly knew each other, but he had a sense of genuine care and kindness towards you. Your feelings for him grew, he obviously was very handsome and kind. But he had a sense of an old soul in him that you wanted to get to know further. You hoped in your heart that this wouldn't be the last time seeing him.
"I find your presence extremely comforting, if I can say so," he turns his head to you.
"Yeah?"
You ask as you place the gauze over his injury and seal it with surgical tape. Your fingertips lightly graze the outer parts of the tape where it meets his skin and you savor the moment. "All done here."
"Thank you," he smiles and reaches for your hand.
"I know we just met, but you're so easy to talk to Y/N. I know I have a persona that people see being a celebrity and all, but while that is a side of me, there are also other sides. And I'm not afraid to show them to you."
As he leaned in and turned his torso, it caught your breath. The first aid kit wobbled in your lap as you sat on your knees.
"What I want to say is that, I like you...I think you're very beautiful and incredibly sexy…"
"Keanu…" you whisper as he continues closer to you.
"Y/N...I'd like...I'd like to kiss you..." he turned his neck and looked into your eyes and then at your lips. He was so subtle in his movements, a gentleman. You nod, without having the ability to speak at the moment, and close your eyes as he places his lips onto yours.
There is heat surging through your body; jolts of excitement and wonder encompass your surroundings. He cups your face with his large hand and you instantly melt. He tastes of wine and rain: two of your now favorite things. The unexpected feelings engulf your inner core and you want more. He invites your tongue and opens his mouth slightly, changing the sweet kiss with more intensity. Both of his hands cup your face now and your hand roams down his biceps to his torso.
"This isn't like a normal thing for me," you say in a heavy breath as your lips separate from his.
"What isn't?"
"Kissing someone I just met…and definitely not this..." you gasp as he kisses the nape of your neck.
You sit up slightly and the first aid kit tips over and drops to the floor. Unphased, you wrap your legs around him into a straddle on the couch. He's surprised by this move, but doesn't relent and lightly bites your bottom lip. His hands roam from your face down to your neck and you crane it back, giving him ample opportunity to relish the soft, sensitive spot.
He does so and places his lips on your skin, making you moan his name.
"I don't normally do this either...but I can't help myself with you," he says.
His other hand continues down your body and through the thickness of his hoodie, he slinks his way under your clothes and touches your breasts.
"Uhnnh…" you moan again and he watches your enjoyment from his touch. You quickly peel off his sweater and his shirt, allowing your breasts to be fully exposed to him. Your now slightly dried hair hangs over your shoulder and he brushes it aside, giving it a kiss. You close your eyes and relish the fact that he has his lips on you. Your senses are in overload and you’ve never wanted anyone more. In the moment there is lust and the excitement of pleasure you’re wanting to experience, so you decide you want to move further.
He trails his kisses and peppers them over your collarbone to your chest, and you hold him right in embrace. You hand lightly grazes the recent bandage and you give it a light kiss.
"Y/N," he rasps. "Do...do you want me?" He bites your lip and you roll your eyes back for a moment.
He brings his face back to yours and you reply, "More than you know."
A huge grin escapes his lips and ignites a growl deep within him.
"Thank God, I want you so badly," he rasps as he holds you tight against his body.
"Where do you…?"
He continues to kiss your neck and his hand drifts down to your center. The baggy sweatpants give enough slack as he dives his hand and inserts his fingers. You mew and hold onto him as he tenderly tours your folds.
"K-Keanu…"
"You feel so soft…" his ministrations ramp up and he enjoys watching you unfold. His deep, brown eyes locked into yours and you crane your neck back as he hits all the spots and encircles his thumb perfectly over your little nub.
"Uhhnnn…"
Your mind starts to spin as you let go any restraint and close your eyes as he pumps his fingers in and out. Things become a blur and a mix of sensation and pleasure intensifies; you grind against his lap and can feel his excitement grow and it only turns you on more.
“I-I’m…” you stutter as you’re close to climax and then he slowly releases his fingers. “Why are you stopping…?”
"Can I taste you?"
Never in a million years you thought you'd ever hear him say those words. It startles you and you freeze, brushing your hair away from your face to gain composure. He plants more kisses on your chest and cups a breast in his hand.
"Let me taste you, Y/N. I want to taste you…" he whispers and begs. The heat between you two is almost unbearable. He's ignited something within your core and you want him, you need to give into your desires or you might explode. Wild, breathless kisses are exchanged and provide ample savour.
“Yes, please,” you ask and you unhook your legs as he gently lays you back on the couch. He kisses your taught stomach and runs his large hands over your hips until he finds what he is looking for. He hooks your thigh over his good shoulder and buries his face between your legs. You buck your hips from the intense sensation of his tongue and scream out his name as the rain and thunder roll outside.
*
After what feels like an outer body experience, you are able to finally breathe and lay on the couch in disbelief.
He smiles with a cocky grin and gets up to clean his face. You rub your eyes and stretch your toes. It had been awhile, well maybe never to have experienced that sense of euphoria. He was attentive in all the right places and relished at the fact that he loved the taste of you. You discreetly blush and reach for the throw blanket to cover up.
As you sit up, he returns with the bottle of wine and tops your glass off.
“Thank you,” you say and make eye contact. “And thank you…”
He chuckles and kisses you tenderly on the lips.
“I should be thanking you, I very much enjoyed it, too.”
“I can thank you in other ways, you know,” you purr and run your fingers through your hair.
He waggled his eyebrows, “Is that so? I’d like to see in which ways…”
You take a sip of your wine and return it to the end table. As you stand, you let the throw blanket drop and expose your body to him once again. You’re braver now. What you experienced was an intimate moment together and your walls were down. You felt comfortable, sexy, and beautiful. You grab his hand to pull you closer and passionately seal your lips on his.
He responds and holds your neck with his hand, while the other hand grabs one of your globes. His kiss is fervent and heeding; his lips are insatiable and the tongue explores your mouth. You open your eyes and as does he, with one swift motion you jump into his arms and straddle his waist. He grasps you by your inner thighs and walks down the hall to his bedroom.
*
He carries you into his room and his kisses become sloppy and wet, it’s a hunger that you can tell burns within him.
As he lays you on the bed, he trails his lips to your ear lobes and sucks on it and your eyelids flutter.
“Keanu…” you breathe heavily as you display your sex on his bed.
He quickly slips his pants and boxers off and you reach for his hard member and stroke it within your fingertips. He’s soft to touch and large in a way that you anticipate pleasure that will come. He grunts in approval and bites your neck softly.
“Y/N...I want all of you...you’re so beautiful. What do you want, baby?”
You practically orgasm at the sound of him calling you baby and you moan in approval as he delves two digits into your folds.
“I want you, too, Ke…”
He smiles, “Ke...I like that. I like you...a lot. I want you to scream my name just like that.”
You nod as he pumps harder and tantalizes your clit, sending waves of intensity all over your body.
“Oh, yes! Ke!”
“Do we need protection, baby?” He asks earnestly and you shake your head no.
“IUD,” you state in a breath and he nods in approval.
He releases his fingers and you whimper softly as he slowly rubs his cock along your wet lips.
“Uhhh, yes…” you moan and he watches the way your silky entrance throbs for him. He rubs his head in and out and you cannot take the heat that is building up inside you.
“Baby…” you rasp and writhe as he teases you in the most sexy way. He enjoys unraveling you, the thought that he can make you unfold in his hands is his own viewing pleasure.
He cascades his hand to your hip and then hooks your leg over his shoulder, giving him full access to his prize. He continues to rub his thumb over your clit and then with a few thrusts, inserts himself in you. Your eyes widen as your walls stretch for him; it takes a few seconds to completely allow him to go deep, but he’s given plenty of foreplay and pleasure that you invite all of him to enter you. You arch your back in agreement with his thrusts and you both moan in pleasure.
“Ke…” his name rolls off your tongue as he picks up his pace and thrusts harder. He leans over you, still holding your leg on his shoulder and kisses your calf tenderly. It’s a beautiful moment and you love how he caresses your leg, all in while thrusting in and out in a rhythmic game. He holds your ankle and continues his kisses until you pull him to you and plant your lips on his.
“C’mere,” you coo and rake your fingers through his hair. Besides the few grunts you both make while becoming one, the rain hits the window pane and is seared in your memory.
“I love your breasts,” he says as he watches them playfully bounce with his set pace of thrusts.
You cock your brow and cup them in your hand, “Do you?” you ask devilishly and massage them as his mouth widens in a state of complete adoration.
“That’s not fair, let me…” he responds and replaces your hands with his mouth. His thrusts become faster and harder, each time stretches your walls and the euphoria kicks in.
"Keanu…!"
You shout and let go all inhibitions as your toes curl in utter bliss. Your walls tighten further and your body shakes as he rides you through, a tidal wave of pleasure surges your body.
 He holds the small of your back as you arch yourself on the bed and murmurs praises into your shoulder as he comes and releases himself. He crashes his lips onto yours and stays in you as you both recover. He brushes your hair away from your face and looks deep into your eyes and smiles.
"That was amazing," he grins and slowly pulls out. He collapses next to you and breathes in heavily. "Are...was everything alright?"
You giggle at his concern, "It was far better than alright. It was perfect."
He rolls to his side and props his head with his bicep. You cuddle yourself next to him and wrap his grey duvet around your body.
"You're pretty perfect," he replies.
You blush and he trails his finger up and down the side of your arm.
"I was not expecting my day to be so damn fantastic," he laughs. "Who knew running into you would lead to this?"
"Me, too. I can't believe this all happened."
"But you're glad?"
"Of course," you reply and give him a kiss. He holds you close and doesn't let go. You both listen to the sound of the rain for a moment and relish being in each other's arms. You're enjoying how he is so intimate and appreciates a cuddle afterwards.
He kisses your forehead, "I'm going to go get the wine. Do you want anything?"
"Hmmm...I'm kind of hungry."
"What? You are? We just ate!" He laughs.
"Well I mean, you made me work up a sweat!"
"Okay, okay," he says and holds up hands. "Let me see what I can muster up. I think there is some imported cheese in the fridge. Maybe some crackers with the wine?"
"That sounds divine," you reply. "But let me."
"What? No, you're my guest."
"I insist, you have an injury," you say and place your hand on his chest, rubbing it in a circular motion. You point your finger to his face, "Stay right here. I have all day and intend to spend it in this bed, mister."
"Whatever the lady desires," he smiles and watches you saunter out of the bed. "Take that shirt if you want," he points to a battered shirt on the chair.
"Don't want me walking naked around your house?"
"There are a lot of windows," he laughs. You not and reach for the shirt.
"Be right back."
"Sounds good."
You give him a kiss and walk out of the room, knowing quite well his eyes are on you as you leave with just his shirt on. You realize your underwear is still in the living room and head over there before the kitchen. As you slip them on, you grab your glass of wine and sip it in a felicitous manner.
You daintily skip over to the kitchen as you recall the past hour and you are cheeky and find yourself blushing. As you open the fridge, you spot the cheese and grab the bag and open it up to sneak a little piece. You hear the front door open and the ring that alerts when it does. You quizzically think to yourself why that occurred and you closed the fridge door to see a woman standing in front of you holding a manila folder.
Your mouth stuffed with cheese you almost choke. She looks you up and down as you are wearing panties and Keanu’s shirt.
“Um, who are you?” She demands and places her free hand on her hip.
=======================
JJ and I have been best friends since we were in diapers. Our parents big on the drug market in The Cut. We had similar home lives in that as well, except my parents just mentally abuse me. I had always been ‘bigger’ than everyone else we grew up with. JJ and the others accepting and never having a problem with my size, but my parents were never ending on how I needed to change. There was nothing more than I hated then having to go home....
The endless comments about how I’m ‘too fat’, ‘need to go on a diet’, ‘have you tried exercising’, ‘how do you have friends’, ‘you will never be loved because you are fat.......It wasn’t just them I got these kind of comments from however, the Kooks were also ruthless when it came to body shaming....
========================================
I had started developing feelings for JJ about a year ago, he had started sending me mixed signals that just confused me to no end. For example, he would only want to sit beside me anytime we went anywhere, sometimes he would hold my hand, and he had become a lot more touchy. Which I didn’t mind at first, I thought nothing of it. It wasn’t until at a kegger when JJ got piss drunk and I had to take him back to the chateau since I was the only one capable of driving that things had changed between us....
“You know, you’re really pretty.” JJ slurred, his hat tipped way down over his eyes.
“Who, your hat because I’m sure that’s all you can see right now J.” I laughed, tipping it back up for him.
“No silly, I’m talking about you! I think, I think I might be falling in love with you.” he hiccuped.
“What the fuck JJ?!” I yelled, looking at my very intoxicated friend.
“Well...I am. Fuck, you’re so beautiful, my favorite part of the day is seeing you. Do-do you think you’re falling in love with me too y/n?” he asked, trying to sit up in the car seat.
“I don’t even know how to respond to that JJ.” I groaned, pulling into the chateau.
“Just say yes or no what do you mean?” he slurred, giving me a ‘duh’ look.
I helped him out, he was a lot heavier than he looked. I kind of threw him on the couch because it was enough getting him up the stairs of the porch. He whined when his face hit the cushions, rolling over to face me. He grinned widely, sitting up not so sturdily.
“Are you going to answer me baby?” he asked, playing with a strand of my hair.
“You’re hammered J, you won’t remember any of this in the morning. Go to sleep.” I mumbled, getting up to take his bed for the night.
“Nooo, come back I need to know! Babyyyyyy.” he whined, seconds later he was snoring.
===================================
 I woke up encased in warmth, I threw my hand out to take the blankets off when I came in to contact with something hard. I turned to see JJ beside me, his strong arms caging me against him. I didn’t even know he had came in here last night....Does he even remember doing it?
“Ow,” JJ groaned.
“JJ, what are you doing in here?” I asked, turning in his hold.
“Sleeping,” he grumbled, nuzzling his head further into me.
“I’m positive I left you on the couch last night.” I said, brushing some hair out of his eyes.
“I wanted a cuddle buddy,” he pouted, his eyes still closed.
“Do you remember last night?” I asked hesitantly.
“Bits and pieces, but I do know what I said to you.” he said, cracking his eyes open. My breath hitched in my throat, preparing myself for the worst.
“It’s ok J, we all say things we don’t mean when we’re drunk.” I chuckled, trying to play it off.
“Well I meant what I said, and I know you feel the same way.” he said, blue eyes staring deep into mine.
“Full of yourself much Maybank?” I scoffed, pushing him playfully.
“I know you like the back of my hand sweetheart, which  I was surprised you never said anything. I think I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m into you.” he said, his eyes searching mine for any tell of what I might be thinking.
“JJ, look at me....do you know what people would say? I can’t let you go through that.” I whispered, hiding my face in his chest.
“There’s nothing wrong with you. I don’t give a flying fuck what people have to say about us. I-I love you, and I will do whatever I have to. I want to be with you.” he said, pulling my head back to look in my eyes.
“I love you J,” I whispered, tears gathering in my eyes.
He kissed me hard, our teeth clashing together at the force. All of our pent up emotions and feelings for each other poured out into the kiss. Teeth and tongues moving sloppily, but it was beautiful. Never in a million years did I think JJ would ever feel the way I felt. I never thought any guy would give me the time of day, but all this time.....it was JJ.
====================================
It’s been about 6 months since JJ and I became official....
I was over the moon with him, never have I felt happier then when I was with him.
That was until the Kooks found out..more specifically, Rafe and his posse. It was hard enough with them harassing us because we are Pogues, but now they go out of their way to get at JJ and I. JJ of course flew off the handle anytime they mentioned my name, and I was tired of having to clean him up. I didn’t like seeing the marks on his face...I had seen enough of them come from his dad. I couldn’t help but feel like it was all my fault....
What drew the line for me was a day Pope, JJ, and I were making some deliveries to Figure Eight. Of course we were minding our own business when Rafe, Kelce, and Topper spotted us walking by the golf course.
“Well, well look who we have here Top!” Rafe yelled, all of us freezing in our spot. I did not want to do this today.
“Guys come on, let’s just do these deliveries and go home.” I sighed, trying to pull on JJ’s bicep.
“You might run out of business if you keep having fatty here make runs with you Pope, she probably eats everything before it gets to the door.” Rafe smirked, eyeing JJ.
“You watch your fucking mouth Rafe,” JJ growled.
“JJ please, they aren’t worth it.” I whispered, tugging on him again.
“Hush piggy.” Topper said, shoving you to the side.
No clue where it came from, but I had enough with them bullying us. I swerved my fist back and punched Topper straight in the nose, a sickening crunch sound followed by a shout came from Topper. Everything happened so fast after that... Topper grabbed me, pulling me off to the side. JJ and Pope were busy fighting off Rafe and Kelce.
“You will NEVER be good enough for him to love you y/n. You know that right?” Topper taunted, holding his bloody nose.
“He does love me Topper!” I shouted, frustrated tears rolling down my face.
“Who could ever love someone like you? Look at you! You’re disgusting, ugly, and fat” he laughed.
“Shut the fuck up Topper!” I screamed.
I heard a scream, my eyes tearing from Topper to see Rafe beating JJ with his golf club. I cried out in horror, going to JJ’s aid. I was held back by Topper, his sinister chuckle sending chills through me. JJ tried to fight back, reaching for the golf club to stop its attack. Blood covered his beautiful face, splattering Rafe’s shirt. Sobs wracked my body, it became harder to breathe every moment I had to endure.
“JJ!” I yelled, tearing myself from Topper’s hold. I ran at Rafe, my only thoughts were keeping JJ and Pope safe.
“No!” Pope yelled as I ran towards Rafe.
I jumped on Rafe’s back, wrapping my legs around him so I could grab the golf club. It provided enough distraction for JJ to jump up, grabbing the golf club from Rafe and tossing it. Topper threw me off of Rafe, my face hitting the gravel below. The Kooks had enough since they ran off from us, leaving all of us beaten and bloody. I looked at JJ who was starting to sway, I got to him just in time before he hit the gound.
“JJ!” I yelled, and he was unresponsive....
==================================
I sat in the ER room with JJ, machines and tubes running every which way. Silent tears still rolled down my face, the reality of everything overwhelming my brain....I couldn’t let JJ keep getting hurt for me. He has enough to deal with at home, I can’t bare bringing him anymore hurt. It was too much, my heart shattered to pieces. I knew I had to end things before they got worse, no one else was getting hurt for me...
==================================
I was huddled up in my room a few days later, not having spoken to JJ, or any of the Pogues. I had hundreds of missed calls, texts, and FaceTime’s. This way, no one could get hurt. This way would be better for them.
That’s what I kept telling myself at least....
There was a loud banging on my front door, I looked out the window and saw JJ. I froze, his solemn blue eyes made my heart clench. I opened the door slowly, met with my teary eyed boyfriend. His eyes were so red, it looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks. His slight stubble adding to his tired appearance.
“Why the fuck haven’t you been answering your damn phone!” he bellowed, veins popping out of his neck.
“I want to break up.” I blurted. His face dropped, fresh tears coming to his eyes.
“What?” he asked, his voice croaking.
“I-I don’t want to do this anymore JJ.” I said, trying to sound convincing.
“What has happened in the past three days that you decided you don’t want to be with me anymore? Do...Do you not love me anymore?” he whispered, the sheer pain in his voice made me want to forget my plan.
“No,” I croaked, trying to keep my tears at bay. I breathed in, clutching tight on the door.
“You’re lying.” he growled, seeing right through me.
“Dammit JJ! I can’t do this! I can’t watch you and the others get hurt for me anymore! Rafe almost fucking killed you because I’m fat!” I screamed.
“Don’t you fucking say that again! You are not fat! You are beautiful just the way you are, who the fuck cares about the Kooks? They harass us anyways, it wouldn’t matter!” he yelled back, tears rolling down both our faces at this point.
“Either way, this is done JJ. Goodbye.” I said, slamming the door in his face.
“Baby please! Open the door! I love you, please don’t leave me! Y/N!” he cried, fists pounding on the door.
 I could hear his sobs through the wood, my heart breaking as I cried with him...
=======================================
Almost a week had gone by...
I haven’t ate, slept, just stared at my wall and let the tears roll. I felt like shit....literal shit. I hated myself for looking the way I did...not only did it cost my happiness with JJ, but it put the Pogues in danger. I wished more than anything that I could look like Kie, or Sarah. A skinny, beautiful girl. Someone people are excited to see, someone who can wear no makeup and look flawless, someone who didn’t have to try....
“Kie is here piggy,” my mother slurred, stumbling back to the living room.
“Hey” she whispered, taking in my tear soaked features.
“Hi Kie,” I croaked, my bottom lip trembling.
She came to me, sitting beside me as she wrapped her arms around me. I cried in her arms, what I’m sure JJ had done as well.
“I’ve missed you,” she said, brushing my tears away.
“You don’t have to say that because you feel sorry for me Kie.” I chuckled.
“When are you going to understand that we love YOU. You are the glue of our group, you light up everyone’s day. You’re kind, funny, beautiful, and just an all around amazing friend.” she said, holding my hands tightly.
“Kie...I’m-” I started.
“You are not fat, I don’t want to hear that word out of your mouth. JJ has been a mess this whole week, what is going on?” she asked, so I explained everything to her.
“I can’t let him get hurt for me when he has enough of hurt from his dad Kiara.” I muttered, looking into her brown orbs.
“You all need each other y/n. You’re each other’s soulmates, I truly believe that. JJ can take care of himself just like the rest of us can. We would do anything for you, you’re our family.” she said, pulling me into a hug.
“I love you all so much Kie, I can’t let them keep hurting you all.” I sobbed.
“You let us deal with that, now, I think you should talk to JJ.” Kie sighed.
“I-...I can’t Kie. There’s no way he’d take me back. He-he doesn’t understand...” I mumbled, picking at my fingers.
“Alright, I’ll talk to him. Then we can go from there yeah?” she asked, raising her brow. I nodded, hugging her again before she took off.
=====================================
It wasn’t even an hour later before knocking at my door was heard again. I looked to see my mom passed out on the couch, a bottle of liquor in her hand. I ran to the door, peaking out to see JJ. He looked just as bad if not worse than me.
“Hi,” he whispered, looking me up and down.
“JJ,” I croaked.
We both collapsed into each other, crying into the other’s shoulder. I clutched onto JJ tight, afraid that if I let go I’d lose him again. We both mumbled apologies to each other. His huge, ringed hand encased my head to his chest, his lips kissing wherever they could reach on my face.
“I’m so sorry I hurt you JJ, I-I just didn’t want you or anyone else to get hurt because of me.” I sobbed, pulling back to look at his handsome face.
“I’m sorry to baby, for not understanding your reasons and just blowing up like that.” he sniffed,  his hands gripping my face to kiss my cheeks before placing a tender kiss on my lips.
“I don’t want you to get hurt like that again J,” I whispered, holding his wrists.
“I don’t want to hear you talk bad about yourself anymore. I love you just the way you are...You’re perfect to me. Deal?” he smiled, kissing my nose. I giggled, throwing myself forward to kiss his lips again.
“Deal, I love you JJ Maybank.” I said, my voice cracking.
“I love you more,” he said softly, leaning his forehead on mine.
