The boys stood behind the fence peering through the tall weeds at the charred house. The smell of rot and dust filled Rashad’s nose as he studied the half collapsed porch. A single burnt ballast held the entire canopy aloft above the desecrated staircase. The open doorway revealed sunset’s rays within the two bedroom, single story house. Beside it, one silver chair without a mark upon it. The still air sang with a morose mute monotony.

“Looks haunted,” Trevor whispered.

“Feels like it,” Chris added.

“It is,” Rashad confirmed. Danny stared.

“Do we hop the fence?” Trevor asked. 

“The weeds are too tall,” Rashad replied.

“So?” Trevor rocked.

“Thorns,” Rashad replied.

“Weeds don’t have thorns,” Trevor claimed.

“There’s seeds with spikes on them,” Rashad replied. “They get stuck like splinters and itch forever.”

“Then how do we get through?” Trevor asked. Rashad glanced to see Trevor’s focus set upon the silver chair. Rashad inhaled to sigh.

“I haven’t figured that out yet,” Rashad admitted in a mumble. Trevor’s head dropped with scoff.

“What the hell, Rush?” Trevor stressed. “It took us hours to get here. Do you even know what you’re doing?” Rashad pursed his lips as he turned his face downward.

“I don’t know...”

“Why are we here?” Trevor asked. “If you don’t know how to get in, why bother?” Rashed continued to stare with a warm face. A silent beat passed before Trevor scoffed again. “Stupid waste of time...” he whispered.

“Maybe the fence is ripped,” Chris wondered aloud. Rashad closed his eyes.

“It’s not...” Rashad mumbled.

“You’re probably wrong,” Trevor claimed. “You probably didn’t check right.” Rashad opened his eyes while raising his face.

“Maybe.”

“Not maybe,” Trevor enunciated. “Definitely. On the side. I can see it.”

Liar, Rashad thought. “We can check.”

“We don’t need to check, I can see it,” Trevor claimed.

No you can’t, Rashad thought. Still air held the four together.

“Can we go under?” Chris asked.

“Under?” Trevor spat. “Under what?” Rashad chuckled.

“What are you laughing for?” Trevor hissed. Rashad twitched. “You’re stupid, Chris.”

“Well, you’re all mad...” Chris whined.

“Stop talking like a baby,” Trevor enunciated with a raised voice. “How do we go under a fence, genius?”

“I ‘ohn know...” Chris whined louder with a shrug. “With a shovel...”

“Oh, yeah, that’s right,” Trevor mocked. “Let me just take the shovel out of my back pocket, you’ll dig for us Chrissy Fit.”

“Stop it...” Chris pleaded. “I just wanna see inside...”

“No duh, pea brain,” Trevor replied. Danny sushed his brother. The other three snapped their eyes to Danny.

“What’s your problem?” Trevor stabbed. Danny remained silent, eyes fixated on the chair. Trevor scowled before facing the house. “Any ideas, silent cartographer?” Rashad watched Danny stare as his demeanor conjured a sense of a memory Rashad could not place until a light breeze whistled with a tune reminiscent of a seashell. Rashad turned to the chair. He strained his focus onto the dull sheen as the silence from within settled Rashad. 

“Maybe when it’s dark it’ll be easier,” Rashad suggested. Danny glanced at Rashad.

“Rush...” Trevor started. “I want you to know something.” Rashad gulped.

“What?” Rashad asked. Trevor turned to him with a smirk.

“You’re not as stupid as Chris, you’re not as boring as Danny, and you’re not as smart as me.” The two stared for a moment until Trevor glanced at the chair and walked away.

What the hell does that mean?

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (yes it's the Love, Simon book, mlm, fiction, pretty nice)

They Both Die At The End - Adam Silvera (mlm, sci-fi ish but mostly fiction, cool ideas, but the ending is sad! Very amazing book though, I haven't read the prequel yet)

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid (wlw, bi main character, historical fiction, cool story, just a neat book in general)

This Is How You Lose The Time War - Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone (wlw, sci-fi, very cool time travel stuff!! and very beautiful, it felt like reading poetry most of the time)

Modern au where Kaveh is an art professor who spends his weekends meeting his friends at the bar to play cards or jamming with them in a corner. Recently, Haitham started coming to that bar, sitting in the back pretending to be busy when he's actually there because he has a crush on the blond guy with the guitar.

One evening, while they were playing cards, one of Kaveh's friends —noticing the glances from Haitham— challenges Kaveh to go talk to him if he loses at UNO.

Well, of course, he loses lol otherwise what would I be writing about? ahah but anyway, Kaveh goes to talk to Haitham. "Excuse me, can I sit here?" he asks, genuinely embarrassed, and for a moment, Haitham is breathless. He nods, and Kaveh sits, looking at the book in his hand to start a conversation:—"You're cool when you play" but Haitham preceded him "Cool?" he smiles amusedly. "Yes—" he murmurs uncomfortably. "Do you perform anywhere?" he closes the book, leaving it on the table. "Not really, we just have a channel on YouTube" he says. "It's nothing special, we don't really have time for these things" he blushes. "Pity" he looks into Kaveh's eyes, unexpectedly feeling at ease. "Can I follow you on there?" he asks, receiving an affirmative answer. He leaves the name of the channel on the bar napkin, along with the Instagram page if he wants to follow them there too. "See you, Kaveh" he says, carefully tucking the napkin into his wallet. "Hey!" he calls out before he exits the door. "What's your name?" the man smiles. "Haitham" and with a final farewell, he leaves, leaving Kaveh momentarily stunned but happy.

Lilia is someone Bo runs into often, but strangely doesn't know much about. In the hallways, or the cafeteria... pretty much anywhere, really. They get along quite nicely for the most part- with Lilia's love for spooking people, Bo often finds himself tense around the guy earlier on, but eases up after making it clear he despises being snuck up on (see: burst into tears after getting jumpscared one too many times)

Bo tends to drop by random club meetings a lot which is where he properly gets to know these strangers. The Pop Music Club is one of his favorites, whether they're actually having a rare jam session or not. Although it's a group effort, Lilia is the one who encourages Bo to pick up music again and helps him relearn guitar as well as share his knowledge of random assorted instruments.

They also both tend to make a lot of "old person back pain" jokes, funnily enough. Not that Bo is aware that Lilia is, in fact, one of those fabled old people. Lilia will poke fun at him for it, also constantly pointing out if Bo has neglected wearing his braces or is slouching. He will not have this kiddo dealing with joint pain that hard if he can help it.

At the end of the day, they're on good terms, and Lilia is someone Bo could reliably turn to for advice on practically anything, or really just a good story. They're not particularly close, but definitely someone Bo would call a friend.
