(Nevermore: everyone say thank you squishy for another amazing fic 💚💚)
“You’re lucky Sap didn’t burn dinner tonight.” Karl laughed, wrapping said fireborn in a hug. “He would’ve poisoned us!” Karl joked, pressing a kiss to Sapnaps cheek. The fireborn snorted, grabbing tightly onto Karl. “Yeah, you two are so lucky my evil plan didn’t work, I guess you need to give me cuddles to calm me down or I’ll do it for real.” Sapnap playfully teased, grabbing his two laughing fiances into the bed as they got tucked into the sheets.
“Oh no! Q, what will we ever do!” Karl asked dramatically. “Hurry! Give him cuddles!” The avian responded quickly, wrapping his arms around the fireborn. Karl wrapped his arms around the fireborn as the three laughed together.
“I really love you two.” Sapnap spoke. “Okay, cheesy, get new lines.” The avian muttered with a laugh.
“Yeah well what if I like being cheesy?” “Literally no one asked.”
The fireborn smiled, pulling his fiances in closer. “Yeah, whatever, let’s just head to bed, alright?” Karl curled into the fireborn’s chest, soaking in the warmth.
It was a quiet evening at the fiances as they drifted into sleep.
- - -
The shapeshifter stretched a bit before opening his eyes. He pulled his fiances closer, missing their warmth-Honk!
Karl shot up, the things in his arms sliding out. Where were Sap and Q?! Honk! He looked to his left, spotting a beautiful golden duck, sitting on the bed and honking up at him.
He blinked at the animal before he shrieked and slipped off of the bed, knocking his head against the floor before getting up on his feet quickly. Karl backed up, eyeing the duck before he frantically reached for a book, holding it in front of himself protectively.
He was pretty sure ducks were the scary birds, pretty sure. Or was that swans? He wasn’t sure, maybe it was both.
Something rubbed up against his heels, scaring him enough to trip over it and land on the ground again. The shapeshifter groaned, rubbing his head.
He opened his eyes only to meet another pair of eyes, although these were orange with slits. He whimpered, curling up. Prime, please let this be a dream, please. Karl begged.
The shapeshifter seemed to calm down as a small form squirmed it’s way into his curl. Another form rested on his shoulders. Karl dared to open his eyes again, spotting the duck nestled softly in his arms, while a scaly tail rested in front of his face.
“Oh g–, this isn’t a dream, is it…” He muttered. He put a hand on the scaly thing on his neck and the other on the duck as he slowly sat up. “Where did you guys come from?” He asked, not expecting an answer. Honk! The duck responded. Karl laughed as he pulled off the scaly form off of his neck.
It was a small dragon. “Oh honk, yeah it would be nice to know where you two came from.” He carefully shoved the duck off his lap as he stood up, walking over to the bed. He grabbed his comm, checking the messages. Nothing. Karl’s fiances had left their comms and hadn’t told him where they were going.
He was alone.
“Where-” He muttered, turning on Sapnap’s comm to check the messages. Nothing. Quackity’s? Nothing.
He dared to send a message in the chat.
KarlJacobs: has any1 seen q or sap
He pocketed the device, opening the door. His gaze wandered to the two animals in the room who just stared at him. “Come on.” He sighed with a smile, “let’s figure out how to get you guys back home.” The mini-dragon lifted the duck up with their mouth, letting the duck sit on its back.
Karl watched as the two scuttled out of the room. The shapeshifter smiled, leading them down into the kitchen. Neither fiance were down there waiting for him. The dragon pushed him along carefully. He laughed, deciding to pick up the two. “If either of you bite me I will put you down.” He said.
He smiled, holding them close. The two creatures ended up snuggling him back, which he was happy for. “I think I’m going to visit my fathers today. If my fiances don’t want to see me again you bet I’m going to go say hi.” He giggled. The dragon seemed to stiffen before curling around the shapeshifter.
His arm fizzled as one of the watches sped up. His right hand formed a finger gun, shooting energy into the center of the room. A portal formed and he held tightly onto the creatures as he stepped through. When he stepped through to the other side the portal vanished.
Karl smiled happily as he spotted his parents' cabin, excitedly running towards it. The door opened before he got there and a figure ran through, embracing the shapeshifter in a hug. “Karl!” They spoke as the creatures flapped to the ground. “Hey dad.” He smiled.
“You never visit! What’s the occasion?” “My fiances left me. And in my defense there was way too much going on in that place.”
The man looked horrified, frantically scanning him over. “I’m fine, I’m fine, don’t worry.” He smiled sadly. “You must’ve been through so much…Come on, let’s go celebrate, hm?” Karl laughed, wrapping his arms around his father.
“Hasan! Hurry and make some lunch, we need to celebrate!” “What are we celebrating?”
“Karl’s home!” The sound of something dropping rang uncomfortably through his ears before he was wrapped in another encompassing hug. Hasan hugged tightly onto Karl. “We missed you so much.”
“I know, I’m sorry…there were just too many wars to be able to hop without consequence.” He muttered, enjoying the hug. His dad smiled and pulled away, letting his papa enjoy his own hug.
When Hasan pulled away, Karl spotted Austin carefully picking up the creatures. “Where did these guys come from?” “Oh, they gave me a heart attack in my room, but I promised to take them back where they belong.”
“Karl…mobs can’t hop.” Hasan explained. The shapeshifter looked at the other, confused. “People, yes. Hybrids, yes. Mobs and normal animals? No.”
Karl looked back over at the creatures, extending his arms to take them from Austin. Honk! He stared confused at the duck before the dragon spit something up and set it on the bird’s head.
His eyes widened as his gaze shifted between the creatures, Austin, and Hasan. “Holy f—.” He muttered. “No, cause holy f—.” He muttered, arms flapping as he handed the duck to Austin.
The duck who now wore Quackity’s beanie.
He didn’t understand what had happened, and he didn’t want to. He ended up pacing the room, filled with anxiety and concern. He’d been with his fiances all day and hadn’t known! He didn’t even realize he had stopped moving, or that he had started to tear up until the dragon–Sapnap, probably–made himself known by curling tighter around his shoulder. The dragon nipped softly at his ear.
“I-i didn’t-how could I not have known-” Karl muttered. Sapnap adjusted himself on the other’s shoulder, clinging to his face. Karl slowly took a breath, dragging it on until Sapnap wiggled back onto his shoulders.
“Hey, relax. It’s okay, do you want to talk about it?” Austin asked softly, stopping the other in his tracks. “I-they-these two are my fiances-I don’t know what to do-” He started rambling before Austin set Quackity into his arms. The shapeshifter started to relax a bit with the comforting weight in his arms.
“It’s okay Karl, I know it’s hard, but you can figure it out.” Hasan spoke up, resting a hand on his shoulder. “Figure-Figure! That’s it! Thank you so much!” Karl cheered. “I-i’ll be back, promise. I just have to go hunt down a god.”
Karl waved to his parents as he quickly reentered his home, pulling out his comm. “If you two say anything I will tie you up.” He threatened the two now sitting on his shoulders.
KarlJacobs: i need every1 with their animals to meet me @ community building :]
Pocketing the comm, he grabbed a few potions as well as Sapnap’s favorite axe. The dragon huffed. “I know, I know. Trust me, I won’t break it.” In return, the dragon lept of his shoulder, quickly grabbing something.
“Come on, we need to go!” Karl spoke, grabbing a book. The dragon jumped back onto his shoulder, refusing to show the shapeshifter what he had grabbed. “Okay fine, keep your secrets.”
- - -
He sighed, pulling himself out of the cart before grabbing the other two. “Here we go.” He muttered to himself, beginning to go up the steps. Karl huffed as he got to the top. “You two can fly, you know?” He sighed as he stood in the community house.
Inside could only be described as chaos.
Birds flying everywhere, water spilled across the floor, and endless noises met him. He quickly became overwhelmed by the noise, dropping down on his knees to get further from the noise. Karl whimpered. Sapnap acted quickly, flapping off of the shapeshifter’s shoulder and letting out an ear-shattering roar before glaring at the chaos.
Tears dripped out of his eyes until something soft bounded up to him. He reached out, petting the soft white fluff. A sheep, probably Puffy. “Thank you.” He whispered, slowly standing up and letting Sapnap perch proudly on his arm.
The only humans he saw were George, Tommy and Niki. Well that was absolutely underwhelming. “You wanted to meet us?” George spoke first. “Yeah! It’s a bit crazy, but hear me out.” He began, smiling as a crow settled on his arm next to Quackity.
“Hey Phil.” He smiled, looking at the bird. “Karl, what he f—.” Tommy began. “You-”
“The crow is Phil! The dragon’s Sapnap, and the duck is Quackity!” Karl explained. “Karl, love, you’re going to need to explain a bit more.” Niki spoke.
“I know. And I don’t understand this enough. But somehow our friends aren’t hybrids anymore. Now they’re just animals. The axolotl! That’s Dream! The hoglin is Techn-” “Karl, you are literally sounding insane. Let’s get you back to bed.” George spoke kindly, approaching the shapeshifter.
“No, no, no, George, I know what I’m talking about, I know what to do please-” “No, you need a break, you’ve been dealing with too much-OW-s—!” George shouted when Sapnap bit his arm. The human frowned, trying to pull him off.
“Sapnap, biting isn’t nice.”
The dragon growled before pulling himself off. “Karl, I don’t normally like to agree with people but you need a break, you are literally sounding insane.” Tommy announced. “I’m being serious! Come on, you need to believe me! You had to have noticed something!”
“Let’s calm down and talk this out, okay? I see what Karl’s getting at.” Niki announced. “What do you mean?” George turned.
“This sheep does act a lot like Puffy, and the lizard acts like Jack. I get it-”
Purpled opened the door before he rowed a boat inside. “Sorry, I don’t have any way to bring them here.” The boat held a fish tank, and inside was a shark. Behind him was a fox, and a dog. Purpled held up a jar filled with goop.
“I’m going to sound so insane, but I swear these guys are actually the Las Nevadas group-” Honk! Purpled blinked at Quackity. “Oh.”
“See! I’m not crazy!” Karl insisted, directed at George. “I know what I’m saying.” A cat slunk into the building next. “How did you find out?!” Purpled asked in shock.
“I found out when Sapnap decided to spit up Quackity’s beanie. And I will not be washing that.” Karl added, cutting out any of the other parts. “Yeah, that works. I could just hear their voices.” The teen spoke.
“Okay, so this is a real thing? Like an actual thing?” Tommy asked softly, eyeing the falcon next to him. “Yep, I just don’t know how to undo it.”
“I think I do.” Karl spoke boldly. “Could you guys move? I need my arms for a moment.” He asked. The three flapped off of him, although Quackity just sat on his head. He pulled out the book and wrote his name in it, slamming the pages shut. He walked outside and dug a hole, pouring lava into it.
“Karl Jacobs.” He muttered, throwing the book inside, pulling out the axe. Everyone else joined him outside just before the hairs on the back of his head stood up. He watched reality morph, a geometric shifting hole formed in the sky. A massive figure pulled itself into reality, staring down at Karl.
“You called?” A voice spoke demandingly. He stood his ground, gripping the axe tighter. “You owe me, XD.”
“I do not.” The being insisted. “Yeah? What about the memory loss? Time travel? The whole ‘gods plaything’? I think it’s about time you do something for me.” Karl spat, staring up.
The duck on his head was trembling, but Karl was too scared to move, to scared to do anything beside talk.
“Fine. Three wishes, Karl Jacobs. And that is all.” The being spoke. “And?” Karl asked expectantly.
“And?” “Undo what you did to my friends and fiances.”
“Fine, that too. It’ll be undone when the clock strikes midnight.” The being hissed. “But I warn you, Jacobs, once you run out of wishes, I run out of patience.”
The being disappeared the same way it came. Karl finally took a breath, shaking. “...Karl?” He fell to the ground, shaking, and finding himself unable to do much more, just staring into the distance. “Karl! Oh g–, George do you have a healing potion?!”
He began to cry, anxiety and fear radiating out of his body. Quackity was padding around him, trying to make him feel better. He was moved awkwardly, head tilted upwards as a potion was poured down his throat.
His leg tingled as he glanced down at it. Long enough to watch Purpled pull the axe out of the limb.
He let out a scream, muffled by the drink sliding through and cooling his insides. George maintained eye contact with him, saying things that he couldn’t hear.
His friend did eventually move before blue liquid splashed just out of his vision. He felt nauseous as he rolled over, finally managing to move all of his heavy limbs. Karl looked up, meeting the massive scaly face of Sapnap. “‘Ey sapn’p.” He managed to mutter. The dragon pressed his nose to Karl’s forehead.
Quackity padded up to him again, sitting down next to his shrunken form. Sapnap glared at Quackity before lifting Karl up by his teeth and resting him on his back.
“Alright, let’s let them go.” Purpled spoke, herding the group back inside. Sapnap nodded and slowly began to lift himself up with his wings. Karl watched as his two fiances began to fly together.
His hands rested on Sapnap’s top horns as the two began to pick up speed. Karl’s head began to droop a bit as he grew more and more tired from before.
The two took a pit stop, landing softly in a nearby tree. Sapnap reached his head back and carefully pushed Karl into his mouth. The dragon swallowed his fiance slowly, letting the tired shapeshifter slide into his storage.
Karl felt safe, nestled into his fiance’s storage. He finally let himself sleep, awaiting whatever would happen when he went to sleep.
- - -
Karl woke up slowly, mumbling to himself. Sapnap and Quackity–who were thankfully human again–laid beside him, curled around him protectively as they slept. The words of XD rang through his mind as he tried to fall back asleep, and he prayed to prime that he would find a way out of this mess.

Hey @squishys-soft-stories I said this weekend but I really meant tonight
Content warnings: soft, safe, g/t vore, very slight mention of unsafe vore, injuries, panic, fear, and a temporary character death
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
It was a fairly good morning, the fiancés sleeping in and cuddling. Karl had elected to store them for the night, and the two remained within. The shapeshifter knew that they should get up, they should get ready for the day, but he couldn’t bring himself to really care, staying curled up with his arms wrapped around his middle. At least, until his vision blacked out, making him bolt upright in a panic, only for the black to fade to a familiar swirling pattern of teal and purple.
“Karl!?” “Karl, are you okay!?” He couldn’t hear them over the static and his own heartbeat pounding in his ears.
No, no no no no no! Not now!
The other two had been sleeping peacefully, until their surroundings suddenly tossed them around. They landed with a soft thud, the avian sprawled out atop the fireborn. “What the hell!?” Quackity had gotten ready to cuss the other out, sitting up to let Sapnap get back up. Or he planned on it, before the walls went completely dark, a first since the fiancés had started doing this. “What-“ the colors were pulsing again, but they weren’t good ones. Dark blues and purples, blood reds… it worried the two, especially when they picked up on the rapid breathing. “Karl, what’s going on?” The only response they received was the sudden onslaught of purple liquid, followed by the space around them shrinking and losing the colors it once showed, leaving the fleshy red of.. oh.
“Karl, what’s going on out there!?” “Sapnap?” He turned to look at the avian, who looked worried and confused out of his mind, and it then registered that he wouldn’t know about the potion. He’d never told him.
“Karl’s in his human form.” Quickly cutting off the shocked sound the blackette made, he added, “But we’re not in any danger. The potion he drank shuts his system down. He can’t absorb anything.” “How do you know that for sure?” “Dream’s tested it. Hell, he’s used it on me before.” “I thought that was just admin crap he pulled to keep you safe?” “No.” He turned back to pressing against the walls around him, yelling out for his panicked fiancé once more. “Karl, talk to us! Did something happen?” Something pressing into him, and decreasing their space to move, answered him. “Karl!” Quackity tried yelling, hoping he could get an answer if Sapnap couldn’t.
The fireborn’s communicator went off, and he checked it to find that Karl had finally reached out to them.
You guys need to stay as quiet and still as possible. We’re all going to be in serious danger if not.
“What does it say?” Sapnap slapped a hand over the avian’s mouth, showing him the message. He could see the conflict on the other’s face before he retrieved his own communicator.
Do you think he’s traveling again?
Why else would he tell us to do this? Everyone else kinda knows at this point.
Shit. What are we gonna do? We can’t stay here that long, can we? How long do these usually last?
The last one took like two weeks before he came back.
He saw the look of distress that overtook his fiancé’s face, scooting over to tug the other into a side hug. Resting his head on his shoulder, he typed out another message.
It’ll be okay. The potion can’t wear off unless it’s deactivated, and I know Karl won’t put us in danger.
He took the communicator from the fireborn, typing another message out.
But how are we going to keep still for two weeks? And what about when we need to eat? Are we just gonna starve?
I.. don’t know. Karl will figure something out, though. You just gotta put some faith in him, he’s done this multiple times.
I know. I trust him.
With a quiet snort, Quackity typed another message out.
I feel like we’re gonna want to do nothing but sleep when we get out of here.
I’m ready to sleep now.
With that, he shut the communicator off and put it away, warming his body up a smidge to try and convince the avian to sleep as well. Despite the worry flooding both of their hearts, they were able to get some sleep.
At least, until a sudden voice caught the fireborn’s attention and jolted him awake. It.. it sounded like him. Careful not to wake the other as much as he accidentally had, he leaned an ear against the wall they leaned against, trying to hear more. “Haven’t seen you around before.” “No, uh.. I’m new around here.” Karl responded, sounding slightly nervous but more so bored. “What’s your name?” “Karl. Yours?” “I’m Nathanial, but you can call me Nate.” Nate? “So, why don’t you tell me a little bit about this place? I don’t know very much, I just arrived.” “Yeah, I can.” And then they were on the move. “This is Obsidimore, it’s less of a town and more of a resistance camp. See, we had to break free from the kingdom that held control over us, and now we’re just gathering supplies and people to help.” Sapnap tried to stay awake, he really did, but the steady sway of his surroundings along with the voice going on about the resistance lulled him right back to sleep.
The next time he awoke, it was thanks to Quackity. The avian shuffled out of his grasp to try and stretch, causing him to fall to the side and jolt awake. He about yelled at the other before remembering their predicament and slamming his mouth shut, glowering at the blackette despite knowing he wouldn’t be seen. A moment passed, and then a message came through the communicator, Sapnap pulling it out and reading it before holding it out to the other to read so they didn’t move more than they had.
I’m hoping it doesn’t take much longer guys, I’m sorry about this.
“Got nothing to be sorry for, Karl.” Quackity responded, voice only slightly hushed so he knew the other heard him. With nothing more to do, the two went back to sleep.
~ ~ ~
Karl legitimately couldn’t tell if this was meant to be set in the past or the future. They were mostly steampunk themed, in ways of machinery and voices and clothing, but they also had modern touches that had his head spinning. At least, the part that wasn’t completely focused on his fiancés. They’d been doing good so far, moving only minimally and not talking loudly like they usually did when he’d store them. If there was ever a time he was thankful for telling them about the time traveling, it was definitely this entire situation.
“Karl? Are you coming?” “Oh! Yea, I am.” He caught up to Nate, who offered a wry grin. “Penny for your thoughts?” “I'm just thinking of things that could help our cause. The sooner we can take down that monarch, the better, right?” “Absolutely. And what I'm thinking of is this: we have the arms to do it. I say we storm the castle tonight.” “Tonight?” Karl blinked, trying to hide the eagerness he felt. Maybe they could get home pretty quickly. “Yeah, tonight. We get the others to handle the guards and you and me sneak in to get the king himself. I think we can do it.” “Yeah, that sounds good. I’m pretty sure we have the supplies we need, so we can go ahead and get ready.”
Get ready they did, Nate handing a short sword to the brunette and latched an ax to his hip. He grabbed a bag, putting bandages and other healing items within it. The entire time, he carefully hid his expression, mind lingering on the idea of getting home fast so he could finally let his fiancés out and give them a proper apology. Despite the eagerness in both of their movements, Nate still made them wait until nightfall to even begin towards the castle, so Karl simply found a secluded part of the camp to rest in and think over everything for a bit. Subconsciously, his hand rested over his stomach as he began to think about how to word this tale when he returned. He wasn’t quite sure what to call it, only the description, really. He came to a small camp called Obsidimore, a small refuge to separate from a tyrant ruler. Huh, kinda resembles Pogtopia. He shook the thought off with a snort. Of course it does, most tales are cautionary to prevent history repeating. The only thing left to think about was how this tale was going to end. He lingered on the possibilities well into the evening, until Nate came to get him and the small group they had set out for the castle. Once more, he tried to hide his eagerness.
We’ll be home soon.
~~~~
The castle was huge, stone towers spearing into the night sky, the full moon being the only illumination the building had. All the lights were out; All the royals were asleep. It was time.
Nate brought Karl over to the balcony under the king’s bedroom, and he didn’t even think twice before climbing up the ladders they brought. Though, it was kinda weird that Nate would know exactly where the King’s room was…
That was his mistake, so eager to get through that he wasn’t paying attention to the tale itself.
When they slipped into the glass door, the monarch lay peacefully in bed, eyes closed. To the immediate right of the bed stood an armor stand, a long-handled ax with a wickedly sharp blade resting in the hand on the wooden mannequin. Karl tried to get his eyes to adjust to the darkness, but he just couldn’t seem to do it. By the time they did, Nate was already at the bed. “Cmon,” he whispered. “You should do it.” That made sense, Karl supposed. His blade would be quicker than the ax blade. He crept over, trying to keep quiet, not even thinking of the consequences of taking the life before him. He just wanted to go home, relax and pray that his fiancés were okay-
A hand gripped his wrist with an iron grip, startling him so bad his sword dropped to the bed with a soft thud. The king’s venomous eyes glared daggers into Karl’s icy blue ones. “How dare you.” The king spat. Throwing the brunette’s hand away from him, he quickly got out of bed on the other side, yanking the axe off of the suit of armor beside him. He stalked over towards the two. “You leave my kingdom, come back in the dead of night to try and assassinate me, and think you’d get away?” A step forward, but when he’d tried to step back he felt a shove pushing him closer. Nate? “I told you I’d catch them, father.” Nate’s voice rang out behind him, and he gasped. A sickening grin split the monarch’s face in two. “Let’s see how well you get away from this!” He lunged forward, at the same time Karl got shoved harsher than before, right into the King’s path. The last thing that he saw was the ax blade coming at his face, feeling a sharp sting of pain before everything went black.
Then white, as he woke up on the hard ground of the In Bewteen’s castle floor. At first, his eyes blinked harshly to try to get used to the light, every bit of his head screaming in pain. Despite that, the second his bearings were gotten he bolted upright, hands pressing into his abdomen harder than he meant to. “Sap? Q?” An answer didn’t immediately come, and his veins turned to ice. “Sapnap!? Quackity!? Answer please!” Why weren’t they answering?
Before panic could completely grip him, there was a shift, then a flurry of movement as either one or both began to sit up. “Karl!?” “Sapnap, are you okay!? Is Quackity okay!?” “We’re fine, we’re fine. Are you?” The avian pressed against a wall, eyes partly closed due to the sheer brightness of the organ they were in. Normally he’d chalk it up to the other being fearful, and while the startled icy blue he recognized was there, the entire organ itself was a silvery white color. Pulsing in and out of that white were lavenders, light blues and periwinkles, those of which neither fiancé could recognize.
“I’m okay.” No he’s not. He just died, respawned in the In Between despite being told he’d get to choose. Perhaps XD had a feeling he needed to leave quickly, rather than stick around to try and reanimate some memories. The overseer himself was nowhere to be seen, and shakily the brunette got to his feet. “We’re not home yet, but we’re in a place where you two shouldn’t get affected by being found out. Are you sure you two are okay?” “Yea, maybe a little stiff from being curled up so long but we’re fine.” “Are you sure you’re okay?” Sapnap piped up, subconsciously heating his temperature up in an attempt to soothe the larger of them. “You still seem really shaken up, and I doubt it’s because of me and Q taking too long to answer.” “It’s…” he sighed. “It’s not fine, I.. wound up dying, and I got scared that you two had as well.” “Oh, Karl…” “I’ll be alright, I have been before. I just gotta reach the portal and then we can finally relax.” “Who did it?” The fireborn blurted out, mentally face palming. “Sorry, you don’t have to answer-“ “It was the king. Nate pushed me into him right as he swung his weapon, I had no way to dodge.” Nate, the one that sounded like me?
“I’m so sorry.” “It’s not your fault, Sap.” “Still.” “Hey, I’m happy that you two weren’t involved, okay?” It was like he could read his thoughts. “I know, but it doesn’t change the fact that-“ “That what? Your descendants or ancestors aren’t as kind as you guys are? I’ve accepted that already. And for the record, I’m glad I live in this time with you two.” Normally, his stomach would be glowing pink at that point, but it remained the colors it had been since they’d woken up.
“Is.. something wrong with your stomach, Karl?” “Huh?” “It's.. white. It hasn’t changed colors at all.” Quackity added. “Oh. Oh. Okay, I could probably give an answer for that. So the place I’m in now, the In Between, it’s like a giant castle made entirely of white building material, like quartz and stuff. Anytime I’m here my hoodie goes completely white, so maybe that’s why? It wouldn’t surprise me, anyway.” “What’s the significance of the In Between, if I’m allowed to ask?” “Well, it’s where I usually wind up when the ‘tale’ ends, or if I die while in a different time. A while back, instead of being brought here I got taken to a god’s realm instead. He gave me the ability to choose where I go when I leave the ‘tale’, so there’s another realm too. This one helps me leave faster than the other does, and this one is helping me get control over the time traveling too.” “Did you choose to come here this time too?” “I woke up here. I guess XD just chose for me this time.” Sapnap froze. “What did you just say?” “X- oh. Shoot, I forgot about that, I’m sorry Sapnap.” “What did he do to you? That bastard’s good as dead if he laid a hand-“ “He hasn’t hurt me! He.. he’s been helping me with this. Though, I guess he kinda has to since he’s the one who made me a time traveler. He said his last one completely lost his memory and couldn’t be relied on anymore.” “So he uses you like a damn puppet.” “I guess? But he’s been helping me more than hurting me.” “And he’d better keep it that way.”
Karl idly wondered if the god could sense the fireborn’s presence, and that’s why the overseer hadn’t come to stop him. Without anything holding him back, he quickly stepped through the portal that he knew led home.
The second his feet were on solid, recognizable ground, he shifted out of his human form, thankful to finally stretch out again and laughing softly as he felt the other two do the same. “Oh fucking finally! Wonder what’s gonna ruin it this time.” Quackity snarked, stretching his wings out. Wilbur was absolutely going to kill him about the state of them, but he couldn’t find it in him to care. The pinks and golds had finally flooded the colors, making both fiancés relax instantly. Though, an icy blue streak flashed through the organ, catching their attention and leading Sapnap to investigate again. “You’ve all been gone for days! Dream’s literally about to call a manhunt for you three.” “I’m sorry, George. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way.” “What do you mean- wait, don’t tell me you-“ at the nod, the brunette’s face dropped. “Karl.” It was spoken softly. “They were safe the whole time. I made sure of that.” “Did you make sure you were, though?” At the lack of answer, he sighed, taking a noodly arm in his hand. “Come on, I bet you’re ready for some sleep.”
“It’s George.” The fireborn relayed to Quackity. “Yea, no shit-“ “We’ve been gone for days, he said.” “Oh, fuck. I’m not even hungry, is he sure that’s accurate?” “He’s telling the truth.” Karl mumbled. “What?” “Sorry, I was- um..” he finally understood Sapnap’s embarrassment about being caught storing people. George took one look at his reaction and recognition flashed behind his goggles, giving a soft hum in acknowledgement before gently nudging the other towards the bed. “Do you need anything from me before I go? I’ll tell Dream you’re all okay.” “I think we’re alright. Thank you, George.”
He got a half-smile in return as the other took his leave, settling under the covers and curling up slightly, arms wrapped around his middle once more. “Do you two want out?” “You sleep first. We’ve been here this long, a few more hours won’t hurt us.” Quackity spoke first, followed by Sapnap’s agreement. “Yeah. I dunno how long you’ve been awake for, but I’m not leaving until you get some sleep.” “Nimrod.” He scoffed affectionately. “Seriously, sleep. We’ll be fine, and we can all make breakfast together tomorrow.” “You sure that’s a good idea?” “Doesn’t matter.” “Alright, I’ll try to sleep. Good night, guys, I love you both.” “Love you, Karl. Good night.”
“Told you.” Quackity whispered, nudging the other with an elbow as he settled back down. “Told me what?” “We’d want to do nothing but sleep. We’re gonna be worse than George at this point.” “Nobody can be as bad as George when it comes to sleeping.” Sapnap mused, resting his head on the other’s shoulder. He got a soft hum in return, and the duo settled down for one more nap.
When they woke up, it was to being released and gently cleaned up by their third, who looked very sheepish about the entire situation. With a groan, Quackity flopped back on the palm. “No, let me go back to sleep.” “We need breakfast, Q.” Karl giggled. “Noooooo…” he opened his eyes to look up at him. “They’re going to make me go back to work.” “Call in.” Sapnap suggested, stretching his arms above his head. “Can’t. They’re already gonna be mad about the past few days.” “Let them.”
The two were set on the floor, Karl halfway shifted to his human form. Pulling a splash potion of growing from his inventory, he ensured the two had their ears covered before dropping it in front of the two. As the two grew to their normal sizes, the brunette finished shifting and stood up to meet them at (almost) eye level. His eyes glittered pink and gold as Quackity got his bearings first, launching himself at the taller. “You know Wilbur’s gonna fucking kill me about the state of my wings.” He grumbled into the multicolored hoodie. “All the more reason to call in today. I can preen them for you.” Gently carding his fingers through the avian’s feathers, he smiled when the other relaxed fully against him. Sapnap took the opportunity to ruffle the blackette’s hair, and sprinted for the stairs when the Mexican squawked and pulled away with a hot glare, giving chase. Rolling his eyes, the time traveler followed his fiancés down the stairs, smiling at their antics.
He wouldn’t lie, it had been the worst experience he thinks he’d endured while traveling before, if only because of how worried he was. But at least in the end his fiancés understood, and weren’t even mad at him about it happening. The time traveling thing sucked, it was always going to. But, maybe with a support system like he’s got it can’t be too bad.
*throws this across the room at a high speed* HEY @giant-tiny-squid WE GOT A GIFT FOR YOU >:D
(also @mcyt-gt-events bc we need that one too)
okay so like. we had so much trouble deciding which of your prompts to do. seriously it's not even funny we love both of these so much! we ended up settling on this one, though; After all the manhunts, Dream and the hunters need a bit of a vacation, so they decide to take a break. However, after a mishap where someone ends up shrunk (you decide who ;)), the vacation turns into a journey to keep the shrunken person (or people, if you wanna shrink multiple) safe and return them back to their normal size
this. ended up being less of a vacation for the hunters than they previously thought :)
dream was still worried abt them though, he did what he did to keep them safe but his instincts started acting up 😔
also just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this community for unintentionally giving us the motivation to write for it again. seriously we probably wouldn't have joined this event without realizing that “hey, we’re not alone, other people do enjoy this content.”
thank you, everyone. seriously. sorry for the sappy shit we just wanted to say that hsbfjdf
CHARACTERS USED: (we wanted to add this bit for which set of hunters we’re using!) G!Dream with T!Sapnap and George (the classic >:))
TW’s: Safe/soft noms (we couldn't help it lmfao), mouthplay, unintentional fearplay (these two just come with the pred!dream package tho), swearing
Word Count: 1315!
We hope you enjoy it!~
(again, noms under the cut!!! dont like dont read, but we dont wanna hear it if you decide to read it <3)
This was bad.
This was really bad.
Dream, Sapnap, and George had decided “Hey! Let’s take a break from the manhunts, just as a little vacation,” but it seemed the gods above had other plans. Currently, the trio was back to back in a cave, surrounded by mobs. “I knew we should’ve brought weapons with us...” “You guys would’ve tried to kill me!” “Guys, please just shut up, we don’t have time to deal with this!” George interrupted Sapnap and Dream’s bickering, cracking his knuckles. “We’re getting out of here, even if it means a fistfight.” “That’s a horrible idea, but it might work. Don’t get yourselves killed,” Dream muttered, before throwing a punch at a zombie approaching him, his eyes narrowing as he heard the cackle of a witch. That’s when he heard a splash potion being thrown.
Dream rolled out of the way just before the potion could hit him, his eyes widening as it caught Sapnap and George in the chaos. “Sap, George, no!” Dream tensed as he realized he couldn’t see the hunters when the dust settled, looking around before noticing the mobs approaching an empty spot on the ground. He fought his way through them, diving down and scooping Sapnap and George up- both of the hunters now being tiny- before any mobs could get to them, his pupils narrowing into slits as a rush of instincts began to cloud his senses.
Sapnap couldn’t hold back a cry of fear as giant hands wrapped around him and George, squirming slightly before he realized it was just Dream who had picked them up, taking a sharp breath as he reminded himself that they had a truce. He looked up, his heart rate quickening as he noticed Dream’s slitted pupils. “He’s running on instincts-” Sapnap looked over at George, who shared his fearful expression. “Oh gods- You don’t mean-” George trailed off as Sapnap nodded quickly, yelping out as he was lifted. “George, NO!” Sapnap shouted as he looked up to see George squirming as he was held in front of Dream’s mouth, his eyes widening as he watched his friend get slipped inside.
George squirmed and struggled as he was lifted towards Dream’s mouth, yelping out in shock as he was slipped inside. He grimaced, squirming more as Dream’s tongue wrapped around him to prevent him from escaping. “DREAM! Snap out of it!” George shouted, sputtering as his friend’s tongue swiped across his face. George paled as he felt his legs slip into Dream’s throat as the comparatively giant man began to swallow him, struggling in an attempt to get out, reaching out to try and grab on to something as Dream swallowed again. George’s eyes widened as he felt a hand meet his, barely able to catch Sapnap’s eyes before he had to jam his own eyes shut, being dragged further into Dream’s body.
Sapnap grimaced as he struggled to turn himself around, gripping George’s hand as he tried to pull his friend back out of Dream’s throat, yelping when he was pulled down as well. He muttered a curse under his breath as he neared Dream’s esophagus, aiming a kick at the back of his throat and grinning as he caused Dream to cough George back up a bit, moving to wrap his arms around him. “We’re gonna be okay, I know we will.” Sapnap couldn’t explain why he felt that way about the situation. Of course, that didn’t stop the instinctual fear he felt as he and George were swallowed down, pressed against each other without a means of escape as they were trapped in the crushing grip of Dream’s throat.
Dream couldn’t help but purr at the struggles of the hunters as he swallowed them, perched above the gang of mobs below him, tracing the forms of Sapnap and George as they slid down his throat. Once the two disappeared behind his collarbone, he moved to quickly craft the best sword he could- which was unfortunately just a stone one. His purrs deepened as he felt Sapnap and George slip into his stomach, the fog of instincts clouding his senses preventing him from registering their fear as he slowly made his way down from the pillar he’d made, attacking spiders when they approached and using his shield to block skeletons from shooting him down.
George squirmed as he and Sapnap were swallowed by Dream, muttering something unintelligible as he tried to press himself away from Sapnap. It was too dark, he was only faintly able to see a soft glow from Sapnap’s eyes, before having to close his eyes as they entered a tighter space, continuing to struggle. It wasn’t long before the two passed Dream’s heart and lungs. George could faintly hear the growls and gurgles from his friend’s stomach somewhere below them, groaning quietly as he leaned into Sapnap.
Sapnap muttered a curse under his breath as he heard Dream purring once he and George had slipped into his stomach, ramming himself into one of the walls with a shout. “DREAM! Let us out!” He winced as he heard a loud gurgle from the organ around him and George, snarling under his breath. “Sap- It’s not gonna work- We’re just gonna have to wait until he thinks it’s safe.” “It’s gonna take FOREVER for that to happen! You know that!” Sapnap huffed, crossing his arms as he reluctantly leaned into one of the plush walls.
Dream snarled as an arrow hit him in the shoulder, whipping around to kill the skeleton that had fired it before he continued to push through the crowd of mobs, slashing them out of the way with a sword as he neared the cave exit. He muttered a few curses under his breath as he noticed the setting sun just outside of the cave, his eyes widening as the cave began to shake, spotting the loosening rocks above the entrance. Dream closed his eyes, the world appearing to slow as a green aura flared to life around him, before he ran to the exit of the cave, sliding under some falling rocks just before they could land on him. He opened his eyes as the aura faded from around him, starting to run towards where he and the others had built a base in the distance.
George yelped as a faint green glow shined from the walls of Dream’s stomach, pressing himself against Sapnap, who let out an annoyed huff. “George, we’re fine, quit worrying so much.” “Why is it glowing?! Dream!? What the hell are you doing out there?!” George shouted as the area around him and Sapnap shifted, sputtering as slime got into his mouth. “Ewwwww… I got the stomach goop in my mouth…” He groaned, doing what he did best and complaining, making Sapnap roll his eyes.
“Stop complaining, he’ll let us out soon… I hope…” Sapnap muttered the last part, before growling as the area around them tensed up, pressing against him and George. “Gross…” He heard George mumble the word, tensing as he was suddenly pushed upwards, going back up Dream’s throat before landing in his hand, George following soon after. “Oh my gods, finally! That lasted way too long!”
Dream laughed quietly at Sapnap’s complaining, before sighing as he put the two down on a cloth. “I’m… Really sorry. I didn’t know what else to do and then my instincts kinda just… Took over.” He muttered, glancing away from the two. “... It’s better than being dead, I guess.” Dream looked back over at George, chuckling at that. “I’ll go get you guys some milk- It’s not gonna be safe having you two this small.” He murmured, before standing and walking over to a chest.
“... So we’re gonna agree not to mention this to Bad, right?-” “If either of you mentions it to him, I’ll do it again.” “Okay, okay, we won’t say anything!”
Manhunt Antfrost keeping dream in a bottle on his potion belt 👀
Yes-
After the last Manhunt where Dream is acadentally perminantly shrank- everyone is worried about how he might get hurt. Dream constantly insists that he can take care of himself and will be fine, but there's nothing he can do as his now huge friends decide to keep him in a bottle for his own safety-
Dream wants to argue more about how he'd be fine- but they can't hear him through the thick glass as Ant keeps him on his potion belt
Iterations au brainrot lets goooo
n4 Dream being transported to n1s universe and seeing Awesamdude. He freezes up, sam has a pickaxe, he was on his way back from mining. Awesamdude sees Dream, at least he thinks it’s dream. This person, this Dream is wearing an orange prison outfit that hangs loosely of of his shrunken frame. His eye have deep bags under them and his skin is littered with scars and burns. Worst of all is the look in his eyes. They’re scared, terrified even. This isn’t the Dream he knows.
n2 Dream meeting n4s Sapnap. He goes to Sapnap thinking they’re friends and suddenly sapanp is charging towards him with a sword and a look in his eyes that says murder. His manhunt instincts kick in and he starts running.
n1 gets in a fight with n3 and he knows himself so he manages to break him down. He calls his bullshit over and over pushing through all the lies n3 tries to say, all the deflections that he uses.
n3 going back to n1′s time and for a bit letting himself relax, letting himself be with his friends in a better time when everything was easier and made more sense. But he doesn’t sleep for a reason so why did he think it was safe to sleep? He wakes up from a nightmare that leaves him shaking and stumbling away from everyone else. He can’t think straight, everything going to  go to shit eventually, why did he even let his guard down?
All the iterations coming together one day and baking something. It goes to shit ofc but it’s a nice memory. One they all can share.
Keep Holding On - Steve Rogers
Tumblr media
request: oh! oh! can I request #26?!? This line: Can’t you see I’m so in love, that I’m terrified? @smilexcaptainx
people: Steve x Reader / Avengers / ft. Fury
word count: 3.6k (ik, sorry it’s so long but I needed some FLUFF)
warnings: swearing, fluffy-angst-fluFF
a/n: Another request I, unfortunately, neglected until now. I’m going to link this in with another imagine that’ll be part two for this one! So stay tuned for that one ;)
Enjoy - R.xx
Every month got better. Every month I fell more and more in love with this insane man… this insane, kind, generous, altruistic man. We fit so perfectly together it was almost scary; how well we knew each other’s minds and emotions. I could detect a stressed out Steve Rogers from twenty miles away. Steve could feel my anger pulsate through my blood vessels whilst being twenty feet below me.
I would walk in the door, there he would be with dinner all set. Steve would stomp his way to the gym down in the basement area of Stark towers, and I would be there in a flash, sitting against the thick, cotton-padded walls, talking to him while he struck the bag as if it was all of Hydra’s men in one three hundred pound cylinder. We’d talk, he’d loosen his tension that laid within the muscles in his shoulders. Soon he would join me on the cold marble floor. There we’d talk for ages, letting all the stress of evil lurking around every corner of our lives all go free in the vast gym Stark had designed for all Avengers to train in. We made each other whole, we made each other happier than the other could ever believe.
We really were the perfect pair.
On nights like this, we would feel the summer wind dance in our bedroom, swirls of cool breezes and gusts of warm wind somehow danced together, waltzing together to produce a perfect temperature for these summer nights.
Nights when we would talk for hours in bed, just holding cuddling our exposed bodies together under the white silky covers.Listening to Steve’s record player. That shabby, old record player would spin Charlie Chaplin’s The Flower Girl all day long, leaving the tune to remain in my dreams as I drifted off to sleep in Steve’s arms.
It was never hard to talk to him about issues I had. I had never struggled to tell him I was anxious about a mission, or I had uneasy feelings about the building we may be inside. Scoping out any vital intel or sick human beings who we’re terrorizing a city, country, or nation. Avengers did not stop at intelligence missions. We went on manhunts, and manhunts always left us bruised and battered, physically and emotionally. Normally we’d get a couple days to go into our hiding places and recharge for a new task from the hands of Nick Fury.
Today, however, we hadn’t even put our heads to the pillows before FRIDAY’s voice was echoing off our bedroom walls.
“Why is he calling us in, I haven’t even showered yet…” I muttered to Steve. He perched on his knees as I sat on our downy comforter. He was trying to wash the stained blood off of my face with a warm washcloth, soothing me so greatly; until we got the call.
Pulling back, Steve looked at me and smiled to see my face hadn’t gotten a scratch on it, just someone else’s blood that he could remove. I had my eyes closed with a scowl now sketched on my face. Chuckling at my obvious annoyance, he leaned up and softly kissed my lips, surprising me with my eyes still closed. I could feel his large calloused hands go up and hold my aching head as he deepened our kiss.
Once he finally had the strength to pull his lips away from mine, Steve opened his eyes to see mine slowly opening up to meet his strong, loving look. “I wish I could let you just sleep but seeing as I’m captain, we should probably-”
“We gotta get the show on the road, I know, blah blah, I know Captain Perfectionist.” Getting up slowly, I felt a weird head rush but ignored the heat that suddenly flew into my head, temporarily blinding me for a moment. I stumbled a bit but luckily Steve was already changing into his suit again, unable to witness my unusual imbalance.
I didn’t have one signature suit, so I got to dress in whatever combat clothes I preferred. The heat today led me to a black quarter length top and slightly loosened black skinny jeans. I needed my legs to breath in case I had to go on a chase and I couldn’t be stopping to unzip my pants to let my thighs breath. Slipping my hair into a messy ponytail, I saw in the mirror that it was still tangled with crusted blood in it.
Steve picked me up and trotted over to the door before putting me down, “Let’s go lazy bug.” I slumped down and walked out the door, my arms were hunched over with a gray hoodie I was able to snatch before leaving our room. I used the hood to cover my fucked up hair. I glared up at my boyfriend who tugged me into the elevator, getting his professionalism on.
Slowly, though, a small smirk was forming on my lips, “Really? Lazy bug?”
Smiling down at me, Steve gave me a small shrug and kissed my shoulder while sneaking his arms down and around my waist. The elevator doors closed and we shot down to the Floor 11.
“I call you ladybug and your lazy today, I think it fits perfectly for you.” I didn’t argue from my excessive exhaustion and just held onto his arms tighter, feeling Steve’s soothing kisses on my head, protected by the hoodie. “You are a real nerd, Rogers, anyone ever tells you that?”
“Yeah, actually. Not so long ago, when I met this breathtaking woman, she smiled at me with these pearly white teeth and rosy red cheeks with speckles of freckles. I remember she said I was a giant nerd after I tried to explain to her that the laws of physics do not apply to vibranium because of it’s unnatural chemical makeup.” Okay, I had to smile at that one. The memories of our first time hearing each other’s voices speak, of our hands grasping each other’s, feeling that electricity between us. I saw it all like it was yesterday. A yesterday I wished to go back too.
The team filed in, all looking like they went to a rave that turned into a murder mystery party. Natasha had two cups of Starbucks, one for herself and one for me. Vision had just learned to make tea, and so Wanda quietly sipped on her Oolong Black Tea while I took a seat next to her, folding my legs underneath me, not caring about professionalism when half of us looked like hell. The only ones in track? Natasha, Steve, Vision, and Bucky. The rest of our sorry asses had to deal with ‘walk of shame/morning after’ look.
“Look, I know you’re all pissed we’re in here right now, I am too-”
An irritated Tony interrupted Fury, “Then why have you summoned us here?” he scratched the raven hair that was splayed all over his head.
“Believe me Stark, I wouldn’t be here unless it was for an urgent matter.” A stack of a case brief packets smacked down on the conference table. Taking a small peak over the title, I suddenly felt sick to my stomach and frozen all over.
I took peeks at everyone in the room and saw different yet, appropriate reactions to what they must’ve been seeing or reading about the case that I knew all too well about.
“We’ve received new information on case 27. Agent 11, this the first case you ever had. Even though.. we cut it off, because of unfortunate circumstances,” My pulse raced as all eyes shifted to my shrunken body in my chair, I was hiding in my sweater, trying to become a sort of chameleon and blend into the room. I was having no such luck.
“What… was the unfortunate circumstance?” Natasha, who was the only one with the balls in this room to ask the question that was lingering on everyone’s lips.
Everyone except; Tony, Steve, Fury, and I. We knew about the deadly case at hand far ago, and I had a feeling three out of the four were okay with finished the unsolved mission at hand.
Tony stepped up, helping me out by telling the team the deal with Case 27, so I didn’t have to. The words he spoke made everyone’s hair stand up, gathering goose bumps down their arms and legs.
“So we found a very important target that would nail this case right on the bullseye. You’ll all be sent out to Italy, where the group will be residing. This man,” Fury pointed to the projector, and a nasty man I knew as Fredrik Vulrochiv, was shown. “We need to take out- but interrogate the bastard first.” Nick’s eye landed on Natasha, who rolled her eyes and eventually nodded in agreement of not shooting the guy the moment she would meet him face to face.
“Listen, this isn’t going to be easy. These are manipulators, they twist your words as hard as they will twist your bones, breaking them one by one.”
“Man, I am really loving this the more I hear it…” Sam grumbled, tossing his packet on the table, he sighed and rubbed his eyes. All I could do was just stare at my unopened packet. Blankets of fear for the journey down horror lane that I was going to go on covered my body, suffocating me.
“We all have assignments and different area to cover. I say we get ourselves familiarized with the area before we land in four hour-”
“No. I won’t allow it.” Everyone’s head slowly turned towards at a very tense, Steve. Along with him was a slightly irritated Bucky, sitting below Steve, at his side.
Tony’s eyes ignited in a slightly flaming annoyance at the ‘perfect’ soldier, Tony always carried a love of antagonizing Steve at any expense. “What’s got your knickers in a twist this time, Rogers?”
“I don’t want to start with you, today. Stark, I’m sorry, and Nick I’m sorry as well, but this case was closed for a reason. Besides we’d all need to know how to handle that kind of nuclear weaponry lying there, as well as the bodies ready to murder us the second they get a whiff of our scent.”
“That’s what an intelligence briefing is for Captain. Sorry to be the one that shits on your parade, but this is happening. I want this case down and finally burnt in hell, where it belongs…”  I could feel Nick’s stare at me but I refused to look anywhere but my shoelace that was untied, waiting to be redone by my quivering hands.
The room was silent for a few moments, Steve was aggravated and I was destroyed, but what broke my statue state was Wanda’s sniffles. She had tears running down her blotchy cheeks, ones that she tried to wipe away, “I’m sorry, sorry-”
She apologized to the group as she patted her cheeks with a tissue. I finally let my head rise and found her brown, glowing eyes, glittering with tears as she stared into my soul, seeing the horror that was The 27.
“How much is the risk?” She asked me. No one understood except me because I knew she was reading my thoughts as well, and I was weighing the risks and the more this case became real to me, the more the scale tipped in the Devil’s favor.
So I just shrugged my shoulders, picking at my dirty, caked nails. I softly muttered to her, though, wanting to let the room leave me be in my little humble chair in the back of the room. “Around seventy.” Wanda let out a sob, shaking her head as she stood up, knocking her tea all over the table, “Please, YN! No!”
“No!” Steve suddenly roared. Stalking over to me, he leaned down to meet my scared, doe in headlights, eyes.
“You can’t sacrifice yourself, doll. I know that’s… this is y-your… your mission. I… I-I need you to stick around here for a long time, though, and so does everyone else,” The group nodded, even Fury who had a glint of guilt in his eye that watched me.
“Steve, this is my life and these are my decisions. I went in on Case 27. It’s my Hydra if that makes you understand any better. Just look,” Standing up, I gathered some courage from god knows where, and walked to the front where the pictures of Case 27’s last mission we’re shown. I clicked the right arrow and the team gasped when they finally were projected onto the screen.
The photos that appeared we’re of the gruesome aftermath. Men, all around… the good people and the terrible people, it didn’t matter because they all were just bodies now. No longer souls. In the middle of this mass murder mess, was a small woman, caked in dirt, blood, and scars that still littered her arms today, that woman was me.
After the secret war of 1999, I had gone on my first ever Captain-mission. The task was to end these warp-minding men who used the power of trickery into gaining more and more of an army. They wanted full control, of not just a country, or even a continent. No, they wanted the world to bow down at their feet. They use to be quite prominent in the papers, but the new died down of them when the group seemed to have ‘gone under’. I knew better than that. They’re probably lurking somewhere, in the shadows maybe. Or in plain sight, all I know is that they never left me.
Their words, knives, bullets, laughs… all haunted my dreams, my happy moments, my memories…I almost had those bastards,  I should’ve seen the mistake I had made instantly. I didn’t though because life isn’t happy endings. That moment in my life, that mistake I made, cost twenty members of SHIELD, their lives. I had just miscounted the men, I misjudged their defense force. I missed two vital things a Captain needs to be on top of.
I had been attending to a wounded fellow member when a bullet ripped right through my left lung, lodging itself in there quite painfully. The teammate I was trying to save just smiled at me, squeezing our bloody hands together, he laid his head back on the ground as I screamed in pain and sorrow for the fallen member. I took out my assailant and left the mission unfinished.
I knew that the enemies had called for backup and I was expecting them to arrive at any minute. So I saved myself that night, only myself. Leaving, I had twenty intelligent, determined SHIELD members at my side. I arrived back at SHIELD with carrying only one remaining body back into Headquarters; my own.
It was abnormal to hear Bucky’s voice boom during conference room meetings but I guess he found some spirit inside to rise on his feet and stomp on the ground like a fussy child, “Please, I’m begging no, Nick. She has a vendetta against that group! She’ll only go in as a suicide fighter and you know that!”
Walking over to Fury casually with no threat in his movements, Bucky still managed to make Tony tense. Which I had caught in the corner of my eye. “Barnes-” “No. I went up again those band of…assholes, in 1990, Paris. Even they outsmarted me, that was before they even gained their mass weaponry that they possess now. I was with five other winter soldiers, trainee’s of mine, we all made it back. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing I don’t know!”
He glanced at Tony who had a snarl on his face from the mentioning of the extra Super Soldiers that were obviously now dead. “Yeah… I killed a few dozen of the dicks, but the rest… they are not human. They have no soul, no brain to logically think about anything but killing whoever gets in their way! We, do not have the power to get through this mission-”
“You’ll get this mission done. You’ll get it done with a smile on your face too, Barnes. All of you, I don’t care about vendettas. Frankly, we could use one at the sound of your weak asses.” Bucky squinted at Fury’s backhand words towards him.
“Listen, we gotta get them this time, guys. We don’t have that much time left.”
“Before?” Tony questioned.
“Before they…create something that would change the world for the worst. This needs to be carried out today, no exceptions. I’m sorry, Agent 11. I’m sorry, Steve, but this is final.”
Looking around the room, not one face was readable. I had no idea what they were thinking as they read over their briefings. Some gasped, some held their head in their hands.
I did, however, immediately detect anger in Steve’s eyes. I had to look away from him before I felt guilt build in my chest. Looking towards my best friend, I could see a small amount of pain peaking out of Bucky’s eyes.
As much as I’d like to say that I was brave and felt confident when I carried out those orders, I can not. Because, truthfully, I was shaken to my core the moment we had gotten ambushed. I was blinded by fear and past memories invading my mind I didn’t even realize that the conference room had emptied, leaving me and my brief packet… and a furious steve.
He kept his jaw locked as he saw down next to me. Normally, Steve would know what to do with missions where he felt my life was in peril. He’d come to my side and ask what to do, and that’s when we would go to the beach and sit on our blanket Wanda had knit for us for Christmas.
That was our moment to think, get away from the walls of Stark towers and let our minds drift away by the sea’s breeze.
This time though…he had no words, nothing to tell me it would be okay, or that I needed to stay behind for my own safety. We knew everything about this mission. The good, the bad, and the evil that laid ahead.
The only response I got was a warm hand wrapping over my icy, pale, bluish hand. I smiled at his large hand dominating mine, it gave me somewhat of a feeling of protection. Maybe not tomorrow, or even in 12 hours. But in this moment I felt his protection covering me like a forcefield.
“We’ll be okay, alright…we’ll make this out alive, YN, because we’ve got the whole team on our side. Okay?”
I left a small smile on my face when looking up at Steve’s panicked eyes, scanning mine for any trace of fear. He couldn’t find any, though because I didn’t have any. I knew what was to come, and he knew too. That was the most frightening thing of all, no fear meant no worries. No worries meant that being killed wasn’t one her mind anymore, it was fading in the background. She no longer was herself. YN was a soldier, ready a mission with no strings attached to her life anymore.
“Listen, YN. Please, do not do this, and leave me here. I let love slip away once, and I can not have that happen again, not when I’m so in love with you, I’m fucking terrified…”
A small gap was on YN’s face when he spoke, he never even said shit, and he jumped all the way to number two on the scale of swears! Looking at Steve, YN could help herself, she couldn’t let the tugging of his heart grasping hers, go. She loved it, honestly, YN loved the feeling of his love. He made sure to show it, whenever he could. If this mission went south, and YN was going to spend the rest of the summer in the hospital, she knew that it would kill her to have Steve in pain that whole time.
As much as it was easier going her way, she swerved towards Steve’s heart, letting it take her own heart, prisoner.
Grasping his shoulders, she hugged him to her body. Steve wrapped his arms around YN, letting her cry on his suited shoulder. He couldn’t tell whether these sobs were of pain or relief. He couldn’t tell whether YN was crying from relief or from the pain of having to stay alive. Her nails dug into Steve’s suit, but it was no matter. He knew that YN wasn’t leaving this base as a woman with a death warrant. She was leaving with a reason to live.
“I’ll make this out alive, Steve. I promise. I’m not going to leave the man I’m madly in love with alone. If I did, I’d be hurting us both because leaving you, is like having to rip out part of my soul and leave it with you until I return. I want my soul, Steve. You are my heart and soul, don’t forget that. Ever.”
A tear strayed from his eyes that looked like a cloudless sky, glossed over with water that he wanted to be kept inside, but couldn’t seem to control. Steve kissed my wet, salty lips that smiled against his. A feeling of relief washed over me once I realized I wasn’t going to be gone within hours, I was going to be here, fighting with my wonderful, courageous man that would stop at nothing to end all evil, but more importantly, would not sleep, eat, or think, until he had his heart and soul back in his arms again.
“Why do you have to be so damn perfect, Steve Rogers?”
“Bad, this is going too far. Even you have to admit that.” Skeppy stood firm against the glare the demon fixed him with. “What do you mean?” “You- the red banquet? Trying to murder everyone? That’s too far.” “They threatened us. What else was I to do but make an example?” “Bad. You’re talking about people’s fucking lives!” “Language- And they threatened us! They killed Antfrost!” “After you killed Foolish! All over this stupid egg!” “It is not stupid!” “Come on, Bad! You’re gonna put this egg ideology over the lives of your friends?”
Bad stopped, thinking over his response, but Skeppy didn’t want to hear it. When he heard what had happened, he couldn’t fathom what had happened to his friend. Bad had never been this hostile before, and now he didn’t even care that he was murdering people. He wasn’t going to keep trying to pull him out of this mindset when he obviously didn’t want to leave it. He moved towards the door, not missing the sudden raise in Bad’s voice.
“Where are you going!?” “I’m done, Bad. I’m not doing this anymore. You obviously care for this egg more than you care for your friends, and I’m not waiting to be the next person killed.” “What- you can’t leave! Skeppy, I’d never threaten you!” His demeanor changed in a snap, and he crossed the room to try and stop the gem golem. “No, Bad. If you refuse to change, I can’t just stand by anymore. I’m not gonna sit by and just excuse you hurting people.”
Bad was barely paying attention, mind running a million miles a second. But.. the egg promised! The egg promised that Skeppy wouldn’t be taken from me? Why is he leaving? He can’t.. he can’t! “No! You can’t leave.” He slammed the door shut, standing between the wood and his friend. His closest friend, who he didn’t even notice backing away as a wary look came to his face. “Bad.. you can’t trap me here.” “But you can’t leave! Skeppy, please-“ “Bad, I’m not standing by and letting you hurt people. Let me out, or I’m breaking the window.” “No.. no! You’re not leaving!” Skeppy backed up further, looking for the closest window and trying to hide his panic. He needed to go get help, he needed to get away before-
Glass shattered at his feet, and Skeppy didn’t even get the chance to see what potion it was before it took effect, his fear only making the vertigo worse as he fell to his knees. He felt like he couldn’t breathe, unable to keep his eyes open as everything began to spin. The last thing he heard as his mind darkened was Bad sighing heavily, louder than before. “I didn’t want to do this, Skeppy. You pushed me to do this.”
When he woke up, he was somewhere warm, which immediately set off his red flags. His eyes snapped open and confirmed his fear: Bad was holding him. Bad shrunk him, and held him with both hands, the same gentleness he was used to present. But it meant nothing to him now. All he could think of was Bad’s intentions. “Bad, what are you going to do to me?” He didn’t bother sitting up, trying to meet the demon’s gaze. But the white eyes wouldn’t stay focused on his own, it seemed that guilt was starting to settle in. “I can’t let you leave me.” “That doesn’t answer my question.” Skeppy stated nervously, pulling himself to a sitting position. He wanted to be ready to jump if he had to. He prayed it wouldn’t come to that point, but his friend had turned himself into a broken record and he wasn’t trusting anything that came out of his mouth.
“I’m not going to let you leave me.” “Bad..” agitation built up, mixing with his nerves and creating a whirlwind that made his veins ice and his heart race. It only grew worse as he was lifted above his friend’s face, staring down into the large maw below. He… wasn’t serious, was he? Apparently he was, because before he could even open his mouth, he was dropped in. Instantly, he began to struggle against the steep incline, risking grabbing at the other’s fangs to get leverage. “Don’t do this, Bad!” Normally, the gem wouldn’t be so concerned, it was far from the first time he’d been stored by the demon. But.. with the way he was talking, and the lack of morals the man had been showing lately… he wasn’t so sure this time.
Alas, gravity was not his friend, and he slipped right back to the other’s throat and was swallowed quickly. His panic rose tenfold, and he thrashed wildly in the tight confines, desperation filling his every move. Even as he slipped further down, and into the other’s stomach, he still thrashed. “Let me out!” He hadn’t expected a reply. “No. You tried to leave. I’m not letting you leave me, Skeppy.” “Bad, you can’t keep me here..” “I didn’t want to do this. You gave me no choice.” “Bad-“ “No. I’m going to make sure you don’t leave me again, even if it’s by keeping you in there.” The brunette tried not to let his fear show, he really did. But.. he didn’t even know if Bad had stored him or if he was in his actual stomach, and the way he was talking was not giving him any idea where he was. He didn’t even realize he began to shake until something rubbed against him.
“Don’t be upset, Skeppy. I’m not going to hurt you.” Ignoring the larger’s words, he curled up. What else was he supposed to do? His communicator settled against his thigh, and he gasped. Well… there was something he could do..
~ ~ ~
Sapnap had Quackity pinned to the floor, laughing at the squirming avian beneath him. His face was flushed red, and his breathless gasps were interrupted by giggles as the fireborn’s hands skittered against his sides. “Stop- Sapnap!” He laughed, unable to buck the other off him. The only break he got was when the netherborn’s communicator rang out, and he sat back to retrieve it from his pocket. “Who-“ he cut off, residual giggles still escaping him. “Who is it?”
A frown settled onto Sapnap’s face. “Skeppy..” he answered. His adopted father hadn’t gotten in touch with him since Bad had started getting too involved with the egg thing, and Quackity shared Sapnap’s own views on the whole situation. Despite that, Skeppy didn’t normally call unless something was wrong. God, had he wished he was wrong.
“Skeppy?” “Sapnap, you have to help me.” The gem was quiet, voice hushed and shaking. It was so unlike him that it shifted the entire mood of the room, the fireborn getting up and heading to the door. “What happened?” “Bad, he ate me. I don’t know- I don’t know if he stored me, he won’t talk to me. All he keeps saying is I can’t leave him.” A shuddery sob came through the communicator, and it made him move faster, yanking the door open so harshly it creaked on its hinges. “Sapnap?” Quackity questioned, but his mind was focused entirely on his conversation at hand. “Is he at his home or yours?” “I think he’s still at the mansion, he won’t answer any of my questions otherwise. I don’t know his intentions-“ “I’m on my way. Just hang tight, I’ll get you out of there.” “I’m sorry-“ “Not your fault. I bet that stupid egg has to do with it.” He was already well on his way towards the prime path.
He didn’t get off the call until Skeppy admitted that knowing he was coming to save him comforted him enough to end the call. Only then did he register the second set of footsteps behind him, and he turned and saw Quackity trailing him. “Qua-“ “I don’t know what’s going on, but if that egg’s involved with it I am too.” “Bad has Skeppy trapped, won’t let him leave.” “Trapped how?” They were walking again, getting closer to the prime path. “He ate him. Skeppy can’t even tell me if he was stored or not, he’s shaken up pretty bad.” “For fucks sake. This is going too far, I don’t know how Bad doesn’t even realize how he’s ruining everything he claims he’s doing all this egg shit for to begin with.”
“I don’t know, Quackity. I don’t know.” His own thoughts were whirling, concern and worry and anger clouding his mind. He didn’t want to hurt Bad, he really didn’t. But… he wasn’t going to stand by and watch him hurt his stepdad. It should have never gotten to this point. He shouldn’t have let it get to this point. Exhaling deeply, he didn’t miss the smoke that filled the air. Quackity didn’t either, a frown tugging his lips further down. “Don’t blame yourself, Sap. Let’s just get this taken care of.” Stepping up to the front door, Quackity rolled his shoulders back before knocking loudly on the door.
“Bad? It’s Quackity. Just want to check in.” Sapnap had to admire how well he hid the anger he displayed not a moment before, sounding friendly and chipper. And it was that hidden anger, the fake positivity, that led to the door opening and Bad peering out. “Oh, hey Quackity, Sapnap. Do you guys wanna come in?” “Yeah, if you don’t mind.” The demon stepped aside, opening the door for the others to step in. Sapnap didn’t miss where his dad’s other hand lay, over his abdomen but high enough that his shoulders relaxed slightly. Thank Prime, he actually stored him. Bad led them to the couch, saying he’d be back with some drinks before walking towards the kitchen. “Did you see where his hand was?” Quackity whispered. “Over where our storage is. He stored him.” “Good. But how are we gonna get him out?” “Anyway we can.” Bad returned to the living room with some water, setting it on the coffee table in front of the two before he took a seat opposite them.
“So, how have you guys been?” “Pretty alright, Las Nevadas’ been keeping me busy and Karl’s doing okay right now. Sap?” “Yeah, Kinoko’s doing good. How have you and Skeppy been?” The demon visibly wilted at the mention of Skeppy, but Sapnap kept his expression casual, neutral. He had to. “We got into it a little bit ago, about some.. stuff.” “Sorry to hear that.” Quackity mumbled. “Is he still around?” “Oh, uh…” They knew they had him pinned, Bad couldn’t lie to save his life. Sapnap thought about starting the confrontation then and there, but Quackity’s hand tightening around his own stopped him. “He said he had to.. do some stuff.” “Right, yea. Stuff pertaining to the egg, maybe?” Both demon and son sucked in a harsh breath at the avian’s words. “No, you know he’s not a fan of it.” “Well, I can’t really think of anywhere else he’d be. This is his house, after all.” “I didn’t do anything to him. I don’t know what you’re trying to accuse me of-“ “Bad. We know the truth.” Sapnap finally stepped in, cutting the argument short.
A stunned silence filled the room, nobody knowing how to respond to the bombshell the fireborn just dropped. “..what?” “Skeppy called me. He told me everything. The fight, you storing him, you not even telling him he was stored- Bad, you made him think you were going to kill him.” “What!? No! I’d never hurt Skeppy-“ “But you have. You’re not even realizing your actions anymore, Bad. You’ve hurt him since the moment you let that egg overtake your life.” Quackity stopped him, standing up. His movements were slow, his body language neutral. “You’re hurting him now, by trapping him inside you and not letting him free. And for what? An egg that tells you what you wanna hear?”
“But…” Bad’s voice had quieted, becoming more vulnerable than either fiancé expected it to. “The egg promised me that Skeppy wouldn’t leave me..” “By trapping him?” Sapnap countered. “Bad. The egg is the reason Skeppy’s leaving you. If you really don’t wanna lose him, let him go. Stop the whole egg cult thing you have going on. If you can’t do that? You’re gonna lose everyone. Skeppy, me, Sapnap, everyone you care about. Don’t think I’ve forgotten the Red Banquet so quickly.”
Bad couldn’t help it. Tears began to stream down his face as he took in the avian’s words, hands starting to shake as he thought about everything he’d done thus far for the egg. Everyone he’d tricked, everyone he’d hurt. And for what? For the egg to not do what was promised. “Oh my gosh..” “You can fix this, Bad. We can help you. But you have to let us.” Stifling a sob, he looked up to Quackity first, then met Sapnap’s gaze. “What do I do?” “You let dad out.” The fireborn spoke softly, matching his fiancé’s tone. He nodded, pressing down harshly into his abdomen. Not a moment later and he gently spit the gem into his hand, only wanting to cry harder at the trembling form. “I’m sorry, Skeppy..” he went to dry him off with his sleeve, yanking his hand back when the other flinched away. Sapnap gently took him from Bad’s hands, drying him off himself.
“Bad.” Sapnap had to keep his resolve firm when he saw the demon’s face. He looked like someone had just kicked his dog out the window. “Skeppy’s gonna stay with me and Q for a while. He needs time to recover. I can’t tell you when- or if- he will forgive you. All we ask is that you don’t go back to the egg while we help him. Okay?” “Okay. I’m not going to go back to it. I’ll distance myself, I’ll go hide in the nether-“ “Just do whatever you need to. I’ll be back to check on you, okay?” Quackity rested a hand on his shoulder, giving him a soft smile. Bad couldn’t return it, but he nodded regardless. “I'm so sorry..” “We accept your apology. But give us some time to recover first, and we’ll see about forgiveness, okay?” “Okay..”
“Can you stay here, or do you need someone to stay with you? I think Dream’s free..” “I can- I can stay alone. I’ll stay at my house.” “Alright, I’ll see you after a while.” Bad nodded, seeing the other two- three out before closing the door himself, locking it so nobody could break in. His emotions finally got the better of him, and he fell to his knees, wrapping his arms tightly around himself. He prayed he hadn’t messed up so badly he lost everyone. He couldn’t handle it, being left alone with nobody all because of the egg controlling his mind.
But only time could tell. After he’d cried himself out, he got up, wiping the tears away, and started towards his own home. All he could do now is wait, and give them the space and time they needed. But one thing was certain for him: He is not going to let the egg get away with hurting anyone else.
~ ~ ~
Karl was pacing the floor when the trio returned to the home, picking at his nails and colors rapidly shifting in his eyes. When he noticed them, he had to stop himself from jumping into their arms. “Where have you guys been!” “Skeppy’s. We had to take care of the egg situation.” The brunette gasped, eyes shifting colors rapidly again before settling to his normal color. “What happened?” “Bad stored Skeppy, wouldn’t let him out. Skeppy’s staying with us for a while.” It was then that his gaze trailed down to his fiancé’s hand, and he nodded. “I’ll get a growth potion.”
Once the gem was grown back to his normal height, Karl ushered everyone to the dining room and dished up dinner, a simple meal of chicken Alfredo. Setting one in front of Skeppy, he wasn’t too surprised to see him push it away slightly. “Skeppy..” Sapnap started. Guilt and worry clouded the man’s eyes, and he pulled the plate back to him.
Don’t think about it, don’t think about it, don’t think about it-
Scooping up a forkful of the pasta, he put it in his mouth and focused solely on chewing it. It could have been his body crushing under the- he slapped a hand over his mouth, shuddering at the image. “Skeppy?” Quackity looks worried, as well as Karl. The brunette was just about to open his mouth, tell Skeppy he didn’t have to eat tonight, but he shook his head, pulling his hand away. Forcing a few deep breaths through his nose, he swallowed the mouthful.
It’s him. He’s squirming and screaming and pleading, but Bad’s ignoring him, angry at him, he’s scared, he doesn't want to die-
He didn’t even know he’d started crying until Karl pulled his chair away from the table, plate having been shoved away so forcefully it flipped over. Sapnap was hot on the other’s heels, crouching down in front of him with borderline fear in his eyes. “Breathe, Skeppy. You gotta breathe.” Karl’s hands ran up and down his shoulders, starting to coach him through breathing exercises while Sapnap warmed his hands with his own. “I don’t- I can’t-“ “Skeppy, you’re at my house. He’s not here.” Quackity had started cleaning the table, smiling when he realized he’d caught the gem’s attention. “He’s not gonna get you here.” Hesitantly, he nodded, and Quackity waited until he looked back to his son to continue clearing the table. Karl regained his attention, walking him through more grounding exercises until Skeppy felt that he wasn’t still panicking.
With the adrenaline leaving his system, it flooded with guilt. He’d ruined their dinner, and he was already being a burden on them when they were changing their whole lives to account for him as well. “…I’m sorry, guys.” “It’s fine, dad.” Sapnap looked apprehensive, as if the title was too much. He made sure to smile at him, the grin becoming more genuine as his son’s shoulders slumped. “You don’t have anything to be sorry for.” “Yeah, how about we turn on a movie or something? Get our minds off tonight? Fundy helped me set up our TV.” Quackity strolled back into the dining room, shirt slightly wet from washing the dishes.
He nodded, eager to distract himself and the others, and Sapnap helped him up and walked with him to the couch. He sat at the end, wanting the fiancés to sit together and tried his best to pay attention to the film.
He was exhausted, to say the least. His body felt achy and sore from struggling, his mind completely overwhelmed and borderline shut off. He wanted so badly to sleep, to let his eyes close and rest up. Just as he’d managed to convince himself to shut his eyes, it happened. A character on the screen spoke to another one, told them that they weren’t letting them go. Skeppy was off the couch and halfway up the stairs to the guest room he was staying in before he even realized what was going on, and he tried to slam the door behind him only for it to get caught. Instead of the intruder coming in, they softly closed the door and leaned against it. “Skeppy, it’s Q. Is it okay for me to come in?”
He couldn’t answer, his mind was buzzing and every nerve in his body felt like it was on fire, he needed to run, to hide, to do something..! “It’s okay, you don’t have to. But can you at least breathe with me?” The avian began counting up to seven, down from four, then up to seven again, instructing the gem to inhale and exhale to his counts. It was difficult, his brain kept getting tangled up with panic, but after the fifth time he’d finally managed to get the hold of it. Quackity walked him through the breathing exercise fifteen times before he felt comfortable enough to stop, waiting patiently for the other to get his thoughts together.
He hadn’t expected the door to open. He looked up to the man, offering a kind smile. “Doing better?” He nodded hesitantly, opening the door wider and stepping aside to let him in. The avian led him to the bed, sitting him down and sitting beside him with a wing draped around the gem’s shoulders. “I’m sorry, Quackity. I’m sorry to all of you, I know this is the last thing you all probably want to deal with and it’s stupid and it wasn’t even that big a deal-“
“Skeppy.” Quackity cut his rambling off, putting a hand on his other shoulder. His face was oddly stern, and nothing short of serious. “Something like this isn’t going to disappear overnight. You went through a really traumatic experience, you have to give yourself time to heal. Take it from me, I’ve been there twice now. And me, Karl and Sapnap are gonna be here every step of the way, okay?” “I..guess.” A pause, and then Quackity gained a certain look in his eyes.
“When I first started living with and dating Sap and Karl, after Schlatt, I thought I’d never recover. I flinched away from their touch, apologized every time I cut them off or said something they obviously didn’t like, I was just a husk.” Skeppy looked surprised, wary but didn’t say anything. He wasn’t sure where the other was going with it, but he wanted him to continue. “I was barely present, always overthinking my actions and words because I was scared to get hurt again. It took me a very long time to get over that. Hell, I’m still not over him. There’s times where hearing the word Pumpkin pushes me over the edge and I spiral. It was a lot of adjusting to each other, Sapnap and Karl forcing me out of my comfort zone at the time so that I knew it was okay to start being who I actually was, and.. here we are. It took us a long time to get to this point, several months, honestly. And I did the same thing you did, panicked over every little thing, and I felt horrible every single time. But those two never let me stay guilty for long.”
“I’m not saying it’ll take that long for you to recover, or that it’ll never happen, but you do have to forgive yourself for acting out in fear. We all do, and will every time something happens that makes you afraid. It’s not worth beating yourself up over every time it happens. We all know how that kind of shit works, we know you don’t mean to panic or seem disrespectful.” Skeppy had no words. He didn’t want to seem rude, like Q had mentioned, but he just had no words to everything he’d just been told. As he mulled over everything, Quackity patted his shoulder again. “Try to get some sleep, okay? We’ll be here if you need us.”
Skeppy nodded, ducking under the covers as Quackity took his leave, and soon after he discovered he could hear through the guest room walls. For better or for worse..
“Sapnap, how are we gonna get him to eat?” “Karl-“ Quackity started, but he stopped when Sapnap also began to speak. “I don’t know, but forcing him to isn’t gonna do anything but make him scared of us. He’s a gem golem, they don’t have to eat a whole lot anyway. It may be best if we just leave him be. He needs time to process and recover.”
Skeppy heard their conversation through the wall, sighing softly into the cover he had tucked under his chin. He didn’t mean to worry everyone, he just… he didn’t know what he wanted. Maybe he just wanted to be off grid for a while, but..
They had a point. He wouldn’t take care of himself if he was alone. Plus, Sapnap hadn’t yet calmed down. He’s known the fireborn long enough to know his tells, the flicking of his tail and shifting of his eyes, hiding his hands from everyone and not touching anything easily burnable. The only difference was when he forced himself calm to calm him. The best thing he could do is stay here, at least he knows they won’t ask him about Bad or try to send him back to him.
Maybe he should try to sleep, at least.
~ ~ ~
Karl made him a smoothie the next morning, believing it to be easier for him to drink than try to eat. Quackity had already left for Las Nevadas, and Sapnap was taking on his and Karl’s jobs for the day, therefore leaving the brunette and the gem golem alone.
“It’s okay if it still doesn’t work, I just want to try everything I can first..” he sat down at the table, working on a pancake of his own while Skeppy took the empty seat. “I appreciate it, Karl. Maybe it will work.” Karl offered an encouraging smile but didn’t push him to try it, simply eating his pancake and looking over his memory book. Between bites, he picked up a quill, dipping it into the ink pot and then writing a sentence.
“What is that?” Skeppy gave the smoothie a single sip, trying to distract himself so he could actually get it down. “It’s my memory book. I.. don’t think you’re aware, but my memory isn’t all there anymore, so I’ve been trying to keep a book so I can remind myself of events and people if I forget them.” “Oh. I’m sorry, Karl.” Despite that, Skeppy found himself wanting that ability. He just wanted to forget that yesterday happened at all.
“It’s alright. I’m just glad it hasn’t caused me to lose anyone yet. I know the gap between El Rapids and now was pretty rough for me to remember Quackity, but thankfully we were able to work through that.” He sighed, setting the quill down and taking another bite. “Yea, I get that.” He really didn’t, but he could imagine the argument that the fiancés must have had the night Quackity found out about Kinoko Kingdom, especially after what the avian told him last night. He was glad that they’d managed to work things out.
He hadn’t even realized he’d been drinking the smoothie until a loud noise startled both of them, the noise that usually came from trying to drink from an empty cup. He looked down, shocked at the fact that he hadn’t even realized he’d drunk the whole cup, and Karl’s eyes turned scarlet as a smile came to his face. “Oh, that’s great!” The gem chuckled, feeling a little better with something actually on his stomach. Better than the nausea he’d been battling thinking about eating solid food, at least.
Karl took his plate to the kitchen, grabbing the other’s cup and taking it with him. “Oh, wait, I can help-“ “You don’t have to, it’s okay! I got it.”
~ ~ ~
They continued like this for a month, the situation falling further to the back of his mind. He became excited with his own progress, from being able to sleep without nightmares, to being able to hear the demon’s name without panicking, to even being able to eat a whole meal without once getting sick or panicked.
Finally, the day came where he felt he would be okay on his own again. Sapnap walked him back to the mansion, an eye kept out for any glimpse of his other father. Though, nothing was out of the ordinary, except for the pile of letters sitting on the staircase. “What the..?” Skeppy knelt down, scooping them into his hands. There were quite a few from Bad, which he decided to look into later, but one stood out the most to him: The one from his rival, Technoblade.
Sapnap led him into the house, taking the letters from Bad and setting them on the table while he opened the remaining letter, reading it under his breath.
-Skeppy,
Normally I wouldn’t reach out like this, but I’ve visited twice already and you won’t open the door. It’s not like you to not reach out, usually you’ve got a prank or a troll up your sleeve for me if for nobody else. Just wanted to make sure the egg fanatic didn’t get you, respond if you receive this.
From, Technoblade.
He sighed, rereading the letter. “What does he want?” “He wanted to make sure I was still alive.” Sapnap snorted, patting him on the back. “Well, I’ll let you sort that out yourself. See ya around, Skeppy.” “You too, Sapnap.”
He waited until the other had left the mansion and was out of sight before he set the letter down, heading back out the door and towards the nether portal. He had a trip to make.
~ ~ ~
“Hey.” To say that Wilbur was surprised when he’d opened the door was an understatement, and normally he’d laugh at the shock but he wasn’t there for the brunette. “Hello?” “I came to talk to Techno.” Nothing more had to be said, as Wilbur stepped back from the door and held it open for him, closing it softly behind the gem. “I think he’s making tea, hang on.” He led the man to the sofa, letting him sit down while he went to the kitchen.
Techno came out of the kitchen a moment later, amusement turning the corners of his lips upwards. “Look who finally decided to reach out.” “Yea, well, you’ll understand why once you hear what happened.” Just like that, the smile faded, and Techno took a seat beside him. “Egg stuff?” “Yeah. I told Bad I didn’t want to be involved with him since he started believing it was okay to murder people over the egg bullshit, and his response was to tell me I couldn’t leave and forcibly shrinking and storing me. He didn’t even tell me that he was storing me, Techno. I thought I was going to die. I had to call my fucking son to come save me, you know how fucking bad things have to be for me to go that far?”
A growl had started reverberating through the piglin’s chest, and he reminded himself it was piglin nature. “So I’ve been at Sapnap’s place. I mean, I couldn’t even eat for the longest time because I just kept getting sick. I.. couldn’t stop imagining it being me.” It was a strange sense of dread and relief that kept him continuing to explain what he’d gone through the past five weeks.
“… and then I found your letter when Sapnap walked me home. So, I figured I owed you an explanation at least.”
Store him
Offer to store him
Comfort him
Kill the egg
Store him-
He shook his head, mentally berating Chat for pushing him to store the traumatized gem. “Tell me he finally gave up on the egg at least.” “I dunno. Quackity’s been keeping tabs on him, you’ll have to ask him. I’m not reaching out to him until I know for sure what’s going through his head again.” Techno nodded, giving the other a pat on his shoulder.
“For what it’s worth, you shouldn’t have had to go through that. We’re rivals, sure, but that doesn’t mean I wish actual harm on you.” “I mean, it wasn’t really-“ “You seem to underestimate how badly mental harm can affect a person.” Wilbur spoke from behind the couch, resting his arms over the top. “I mean, you know about what went down in L’Manburg.” “I… guess.”
Techno silenced chat again, eye twitching as he fought with their voices and his own instincts. “Well, I just wanted to make sure you were okay.” “You kicking me out?” “I-“ “Well, I couldn’t call it kicking you out. More of a suggestion, though I will warn you that Techno seems to be having a hard time with his instincts right now.” the pinkette swung an arm over the couch, attempting to hit the avian as he dodged, snarling at him. “I can speak for myself, Wilbur.” “Mm. Wouldn’t be the first time I hung around someone instinct driven. But I’ll go ahead and leave, I think I’d like to have some alone time for a while.” “That’s fine. Stay safe, Skeppy.” “You too, Techno. Just you wait, I’ll have a troll ready in no time for you.” “You know how to reach me.” The easy grin on the piglin’s face eased a lot of Skeppy’s worries somehow, and he grinned back. “Of course.”
~ ~ ~
Twelve letters. That was the amount of letters that Bad left on his doorstep. After he made dinner, picked up, did literally anything he could to distract himself before his curiosity got the better of him and he finally sat down on the sofa, pulling the first one to him.
Skeppy,
Words cannot describe how sorry I am for everything that has happened between us thanks to this egg situation. I don’t expect forgiveness, I just want to reassure you that I’m not going to go back to it. I’m at the nether house, and I’ll stay here for a good while. You deserve space, and time to recover. And I understand if you decide you don’t want to be around me anymore.
-BadBoyHalo
Each letter after that was simply the other writing down his progress in separating from the egg, destroying the bond he had with it and working to get the others away from it’s control. Quackity was mentioned in those letters a lot, congratulating him on his own progress recovering as Quackity told it. The last letter expressed that he’d finally succeeded, once again expressing how sorry he was, and how he understood if Skeppy decided he never wanted to see him again.
The gem gave a long suffering sigh, rereading the final letter again and again until he finally came to a decision. Pulling out his communicator, he typed up a single message.
Bad, do you wanna come over and talk about what happened over some muffins?
It took less than a minute to get a reply.
I’ll be there whenever you want me there.
Now?
On my way! :)
Twenty minutes to midnight and I finally got part one done, so here we go!
~~~~~~~~~~
It had been a good run. Dream was already in the nether, despite his hunters not being anywhere close to ready. He had made a lot of distance before making his portal, too. They were gonna have to make their own to save time, and even then he still had the advantage over them. He felt almost giddy with his progress, a strange warmth twisting in his stomach. He hadn’t thought anything of it, at first; adrenaline is one hell of a drug, after all, and he had had a few close calls before he got this advantage.
Though, as his steps slowed and he suddenly felt himself growing faint, he wondered if maybe he should have been concerned about it.
Oh well, he has earned himself a break.
He sat down beside the netherrack wall, trying to catch his breath and get the world to stop spinning around him. A twinge of fear coursed through him, making him shiver as ice flooded his veins.
Did one of them use a potion and I couldn’t tell?
He mentally flipped through his inventory, searching for milk, feeling more panic creep up his spine when he had none. He wouldn’t make it back to the portal, he didn’t think he could even stand up at the moment, and the dizzying feeling was only getting worse, nausea forcing his eyes closed and his teeth clenched.
As it passed, he hesitantly opened his eyes, looking around as most of the previous inhibitors vanished.
At first glance, everything was still normal sized, large and looking as the nether is. But the netherrack pattern near him seemed bigger than it should have been. He pulled out a torch to see better, placing it beside him before flinching back.
The torch was bigger than he was.
“What..?”
His head was reeling. How the fuck was he shorter than a torch? He’s never heard of anything like this before!
Fuck, what is he gonna do? It’s gonna be impossible to beat the dragon now, let alone any blazes!
He…
He’d have to call the game off. He’d have to tell the hunters.
Dream shuddered at the idea of telling them. He knew they’d use it to their advantage, any time they get the upper hand they do. But… these are his friends, right? It would be worse if they didn’t know. He could only imagine the death message if one of them accidentally killed him at this size because they weren’t looking for him at this size. With a shaky sigh, he opened the communicator, listening to the five searching for him for a moment. When it finally started to go quiet again, he spoke.
“Guys?” George answered him first. “Where are you, Dream?” “There’s no way you got away that fast.” Sam added.
“Yea. Uh, something’s wrong.”
The call went quiet, the hunters processing the word and any implications that followed it. “What happened, Dream? Are you okay?” Bad finally broke the tense silence. “Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just… I’m pretty sure I’m smaller than a torch right now?” The silence returned tenfold, but now Dream could almost feel the shock and confusion radiating through the communicator. “How?” “I don’t know. I was just getting some distance from you guys and then I felt dizzy. When I opened my eyes, I was this size.”
“Dream.” Sapnap spoke up, tone firm and voice quiet. “Where are you right now?” The shrunken man froze. His tone left no room for argument, but Sapnap also had a bad habit of taunting him for any advantage he could get over him.
But he could trust Sapnap, couldn’t he? He sounded serious, and Dream honestly doubted that he would have sounded so serious if his plan was to come and tease him.
“Nether.” He thought about adding more, but once again the fear of them hunting him still while at this size stopped him. “Shit!” The fireborn hissed out. “Language!” “Dream, wherever you are, stay there. I’m coming to get you.” At that, the call quickly came to a close, Dream shoving his communicator back in his pocket and trying to regulate his breathing. Sapnap sounded almost angry. If he was smaller than a torch, his friends would be huge compared to him. And if they’re angry?
His legs were moving before he even processed it, sprinting further away to create more distance.
He can’t get caught. He can’t get caught.
~~~
The hunters found Dream’s portal, searching around it in case he already left the Nether. “Sapnap, how exactly are you planning on finding Dream?” “Senses. I’m a hybrid, remember? Me and Bad are.” His senses were only somewhat heightened in the overworld, but the Nether was his turf. He’d find Dream easily, which is why normally he wouldn’t use his senses to be fair.
But Dream was in a lot of danger right now, there was no choice in this matter.
He didn’t plan to waste any more time, leaving the others to search around the portal while he went to search the Nether. As the purple swirls faded from his vision, he was met with the intense heat of the dimension, something that made his shoulders relax if only slightly. Even the desert heat couldn’t make up for the warmth he was used to here. It was one of the main things he missed about deciding to stay in the overworld with the others, though he didn’t regret it.
Now wasn't the time for those thoughts, though. He needed to find Dream before something bad happened to his friend.
He’d only taken a few steps from the portal before Bad joined him.
“Should we split up?” “Yea. Just in case he did run anyway. I wouldn’t doubt it.”
Sapnap didn’t bother hiding his worry. Bad definitely didn’t, and the two went separate ways from the portal, letting their senses take over.
Sapnap could smell pork, which wasn’t surprising for the Nether, and relaxed when the scent wasn’t strong. They weren’t close. Bad’s scent, a mix of smoke and muffin batter, was fading quickly, and other than that the smell of the Nether itself, an almost bitter burnt scent, surrounded him. He started walking forward, inhaling deeply to try and catch any other scents that could lead him to his friend.
There. It was extremely faint, but he could recognize that earthy scent anywhere. He just hoped it was faint because he was small, and not because he ran, picking up the pace and moving towards it.
~~~
Dream couldn’t go any further. For one, the drop ahead of him would kill him at normal size, let alone this size. And two: he’d been running for what felt like hours, and he’s already exhausted most of his food. All he could do now is hide and pray that Sapnap doesn’t actually find him.
He remained ducked under the small awning the netherrack around him offered, keeping an eye out in the direction he came from.
If he saw Sapnap, he could… he could what? He wouldn’t be able to outrun him, and any kind of tricks he could have pulled are instantly thwarted by his size. He was still low on hunger, and the food he had wasn’t much to get him through a chase. What could he do?
Very soft footsteps caught him off guard, head snapping up to see the checkered converse and black pants of Sapnap. “Dream?” His voice was soft, but he did not take a step further.
He.. He knows where I am, doesn’t he? He knows I’m hiding.
“Dream, come out. I’m not gonna hurt you.” The giant lowered himself down to a kneel, one foot still planted on the ground in case he needed to get up quickly. Dream wanted to retort, he wanted to tell him to go away, but he couldn’t muster up the courage. A soft sigh, though still loud to the small man, rang out from beyond his hiding spot. Sapnap’s hands rested on the ground, near the nether rack the shrunken man was hiding under. “Dream, come on. We need to get out of here.”
Surely he knows it isn’t safe, right?
Sapnap could wish that that’s why he stayed hidden, but the smell of fear was almost strangling him. He knew it was directed at him.
“Dream, we’re not gonna hurt you. We need to figure out how this happened so we can fix it.”
An achievement popped up on both communicators, Sapnap reading it out loud before Dream could pull his out.
“‘Into fire’- what the fuck is he doing? I’m about to call him.” The larger grumbled, tapping on the device for a moment. A few silent moments went by, Dream trying to find an opportunity to run, before the call was picked up. “Did you find him?” “What are you doing, Bad? Why are you getting blaze rods?” “It could be a potion! We need a brewing stand and blaze powder. Did you find him, Sapnap?” The demon was barely concealing the worry in his voice. “Yea, I did.”
“Good! That’s good. Is he okay?” Sapnap sighed, looking down at where Dream’s scent was strongest. “I don’t know. He’s hiding, he won’t come out.” “Oh.” Bad suddenly yelped, making Dream startle and Sapnap tense. “Bad?” “I gotta go, there’s too many blazes! Keep me updated!” The call ended abruptly, leaving Sapnap to groan, putting his free hand on his forehead while he put his communicator away. “If he gets himself killed doing that I swear-“ he froze up, eyes dilating slightly. Dream moved.
He was moving, trying to sneak past him.
“Dream?” The man jumped, breaking into a sprint before Sapnap could even register what had happened. “Wh- HEY!” He lunged after him, and Dream didn’t have the courage to look back.
Make it back to the portal, make it back to the portal, make it back to the-
He shrieked when something wrapped around him, yanking him backwards and erasing a lot of the progress he made in his panic. He looked down and oh fuck those are fingers.
Sapnap had grabbed him. “Dream! What the hell are you doing? You’re gonna get hurt!” “Let me go! Just let me go, I’ll-“
“Games over, Dream.” The speed runner flinched at the words, beginning to tremble. “Wait, shit- I don’t mean it like that. We’re- Dream we’re not gonna keep hunting you like this. We’ve gotta get you back to normal first.” He loosened his grip, but only slightly. He had no doubt that Dream would try to jump if given the chance.
As a matter of fact, how the hell is he supposed to get out of here without both hands free? He was not gonna try to put Dream in his inventory, fuck no. He didn’t have any pockets, and he’d have to be able to fight to escape. He doesn’t have gold, armor or otherwise, the Piglins were not going to let him leave easily.
There had to be something he could do.
Wait… maybe there is.
When he was younger and Bad was trying to help him survive the Nether, he used to swallow Sapnap and hold him in a brooding pouch. It was something almost all netherborns had, to protect their treasures or their offspring from the heat or other threats. It’s not like he didn’t have one, he’s used it before. Just not on something living.
And Dream was gonna fucking kill him for doing this, too.
“Dream.” The mask-clad tiny tensed, but didn’t flinch, looking up at him. He hadn’t even noticed when he had stopped struggling against him. “Finally back? You’ve been.. staring at me weirdly for a while. Your pupils are huge.” “Right, yeah. I was trying to think of how to get us out of here, cause I’m gonna need both hands. And I’m not experimenting with putting you in my inventory.” “Thank god.” Dream sighed. “Unfortunately, the only other option isn’t great either. It’s.. you’re not gonna like it, and you won’t understand it either.”
“Sapnap?” He sounded nervous, just barely concealing his fear. “Just… trust me, okay?” He brought Dream closer to his face, trying to keep his face calm and comforting, though it didn’t seem to help. He took a deep breath, and without readying either of them, popped his shrunken friend into his mouth.
Dream immediately flailed, yelling out. “What are you doing!? You said you weren’t gonna hurt me!” The fireborn’s heart almost shattered at that, whining softly as he tried to keep his friend from his fangs. He tried not to think about his friend’s taste, he tried not to linger on it, but..
Dream tasted pretty good. Definitely earthy, like herbs, and something tangy too. It wasn’t like anything Sapnap’s ever had, Nether or overworld wise. The only thing that soured it was the hurtful words and the overwhelming fear his friend kept emitting. Truthfully, Sapnap was getting very nervous the more the tiny speedrunner kept thrashing, getting too close to his clenched fangs than comfortable for the hybrid.
He tried to purr, hoping that maybe it would help soothe him a bit. He felt relief when Dream finally went limp, thinking that maybe it had helped. It wasn’t until he heard and felt sobs wrack his friend’s body that his heart plummeted, cutting the purrs off immediately. Shit, he still had to swallow Dream, too. If he tried keeping him in his mouth, he’d get hurt on his fangs. He tried steeling himself, lifting his tongue up to the roof of his mouth and letting Dream slide on the other side of it. He didn’t even fight, just tried to curl away from his throat.
Sapnap swallowed twice, forcing Dream down quickly so he could do damage control. “Dream, Dream you’re okay. It’s okay, fuck..” Dream hadn’t even finished his trip down his throat yet, he couldn’t even tell if he could hear his frantic attempt to soothe him, hand hovering gently over where he felt him slipping further. “Dream, I promise this is safe. Bad did it to me all the time when I was a kid, it’s safe. I wouldn’t have done it otherwise.”
He started on his journey back to the portal, rubbing at where Dream finally dropped down into his pouch. He was still trembling, but it seemed like he was trying to calm himself.
He yelled out, startling his holder for a moment before he thought to respond. “Sapnap!?” “Hey, it’s okay, it’s okay. I promise you’re safe, it’s just until we get back to the overworld.” Dream relaxed somewhat upon hearing his voice. It seemed that he just wanted a response.
“How is this even safe?” He called out. “It’s a netherborn thing. Most netherborns have a brooding pouch, to protect their treasure or their kids from the heat or danger. It’s completely safe though, it’s a separate organ.”
“How long have you been able to do this?” He chuckled, happy to fill the silence. He was also happy to feel Dream relax more as he spoke. “Since I was born. Like I said, Bad’s done it to me several times.” “Right. And.. were you ever scared of it?”
“The first time, yeah. Well, not really scared, just nervous. Bad explained it pretty excessively to me before he did it, but you were already scared. I knew I couldn’t get through to you.”
“Yeah. I just… it’s hard to get out of that mindset. Especially when everything’s huge compared to me. I trust you, Sap, promise. I was just.. scared, of everything.” The larger did not respond for a few minutes, mulling over the words while he traversed the rough terrain before him.
“I don’t think you’ve ever been so transparent like this before.” “How so?” “I just don’t think you’ve ever talked about how you feel with us during these games.” “Not like I have anything else to think of.” That’s a lie. He had his surroundings to think of. Sapnap has always been warm, same with Bad, but in here? It was.. nice. He would have been worried it would have been too hot, but he was just in the nether. Sapnap was actually cooler than it. It was just pleasantly warm, and his surroundings were surprisingly soft. It was also dark, but Dream expected that. He was inside someone, after all. He could hear Sapnap moving, feel the sway of his movements as he worked his way back to the portal. He could hear his lungs taking in air, and exhaling it; His voice rumbled around him as he kept talking, though Dream no longer processed it, and he couldn’t even hide the soft purrs that gently shook the organ Dream resided in. Above all that, though, he mainly focused on Sapnap’s heart, beating steadily above him. It was nice to listen to, a reminder that his friend was right there with him.
He didn’t even know when his eyes had grown so heavy, but he went ahead and closed them, finding no point in peering around the darkness. He was out like a light.
~~~
“-And that wound up being pretty rough to explain, Skeppy wasn’t thrilled with him.” Sapnap chuckled at the story, the memory of his adopted stepdad freaking out over him being stored still humorous to him. It had been a long time ago, and maybe if he hadn’t been used to it he would have been just as scared as Skeppy had been. A few steps later, he hesitated. Dream hadn’t responded to the story. Actually, he hadn’t said anything in quite a while, and he hasn’t really moved other than the involuntary movement caused by Sapnap. Despite knowing it was safe, that there was no possible way he could have sent his friend to the wrong place, he felt unease creep up his spine.
“Dream? You good?” He pressed a hand to his midsection, trying to spur a reaction. For a heart stopping moment, there wasn’t one. Then the small form shifted, and if Sapnap listened closely (which he was, now concerned he’d missed something) he could hear faint snores.
He instantly relaxed, the tension oozing out of him as he realized his friend simply fell asleep.
“Little warning would have been nice.” He huffed, picking up the pace. “Warning for what?” His eyes snapped up instantly, meeting the gaze of Bad. “Oh, finished getting whipped by the blazes?” “Yea, I think I got enough blaze rods, we can just use the brewing stand in the village. Where’s Dream?” He hesitated, out of instinct of hiding his inhuman qualities, before relaxing. “I had to store him. I needed both my hands free so we could actually survive getting back. He went pretty damn far for being that small.” “Language.” The demon chided, shoulders slumping in relief. “Did.. he take it well?” “No. But he did calm down after a little bit and let me explain. He’s sleeping right now.” “Good. He needed it, I bet.”
“Yea. Let’s get back to the others, I’m sure they’re just dying to know what’s going on.”
~~~
In the end, it had been a potion effect. The six found the closest village and camped out in the church, sitting around the brewing stand. Bad was testing different potion ingredients, and George wrote the results down in a book and quill. Sapnap kept a firm hold on Dream, watching the potions brew as he kept his ears on Dream’s breathing. He was still sleeping when he brought him back up, so he tried his best to keep him from waking up as he dried him off.
He shifted in the hybrid’s grip, making his eyes snap down to his small form.
“Morning, sleeping beauty.” Dream groaned, swatting at his fingers before his eyes snapped open. Of course, nobody noticed that with his mask still being on, but they did notice when he sat up quickly. “…so it wasn’t a dream?” “Nope. Lucky for you, though, Bad’s been brewing potions nonstop and we’ve been getting closer to an antidote.” Dream nodded, looking over at the demon. Bad visibly brightened when he noticed, offering him a wide smile. “I’m glad to see you’re okay, Dream! I think I speak for all of us when I say you had us worried.” “Yea? Try putting yourself in my shoes.”
“Actually, now that you’re up, we could try milk.”
The group paused for a moment, each checking their inventory before Antfrost finally pulled a bucket of milk out of his. “I got one early in case you tried any splash potions, but…” Dream crossed his arms at him while Sapnap accepted the milk bucket, holding it out for the shrunken man.
“If we’ve decided it was a potion, then that means one of you guys had to have brewed it.”
“Not necessarily.” George had gone back to writing down combinations. “Callahan hosts the worlds, right? He could have brewed it.” “But why would he? Just to introduce the concept of them? Why wouldn’t he write the potion combinations down somewhere then?”
“I… that’s a fair point, I guess.” “Well, none of us brewed it. If we had, we wouldn’t be playing potion roulette right now.” Sapnap adjusted his hold on Dream as he pulled away from the milk bucket, both frowning when it didn’t even make a dent in his size.
“Let’s just be happy something bad didn’t happen to Dream. We’re working on it now, right? It’ll be okay.” Bad tossed a mushroom into the brewing stand, placing an awkward potion in the middle of it.
“Did we already do nether mushrooms?“ “Not yet. What are you doing now?” “I just put a warped mushroom in. Usually it wouldn’t do anything, but it’s actually brewing something.” “Warped mushroom?” “Yea. Usually mushrooms don’t do anything in brewing stands alone.”
The next minute that went by waiting on the potion to finish felt like the longest minute any of the hunters, and Dream, ever experienced. When Bad pulled the potion out of the stand, he looked at the shimmery, cyan liquid for a good while. “It’s definitely a potion, but it’s not like one I’ve ever seen. Do you think we found it?” “Only one way to find out.” George motioned to the flower pots they collected and put in the church to test potions on, varying flowers holding various effects. Most looked normal, just with potion particles coming off of them, but the water breathing tester looked slightly wilted as it no longer absorbed the water, and the regeneration and health testers looked better than before. There were only a few flowers left, and Bad grabbed the untested pot containing a poppy to test the new potion on.
“Okay, so this is just warped mushroom. No glowstone, redstone, gunpowder, nothing. Oh! And used on an awkward potion.” “I know, just get on with it already.” George rolled his eyes.
Bad poured a small amount onto the poppy, waiting with baited breath as the potion began to take effect.
And right before everyone’s eyes, the poppy began to shrink. “Yes!” “Fucking finally.” Sapnap let his head fall back against the wall. “You said it was warped mushroom, right? So would the antidote just be a crimson mushroom?” “I’ll go get one.” “Thank you, Sam. I’ll fix up another awkward potion while you’re gone.”
“I hope this works. I don’t know what we’re gonna do if it doesn’t.” “Do the same thing we’re doing right now. Just keep testing things, we’ve still got several ingredients that we could test.”
Dream looked up at the hybrid holding him, growing bored of simply sitting and watching them mess around with potions. Sapnap’s head remained against the wall, eyes closed. He would have thought he was sleeping if his breathing was any deeper, but he knew better. He considered his options for a moment, before grinning and crawling to the edge of his friend’s hand. One of the blackette’s eyes cracked open a sliver, looking down at him but not making a move to stop him. Dream watched him for a moment, but upon realizing he wasn’t gonna be stopped, launched himself off of the larger’s hand and towards his chest.
“Dream!” He yelled, catching him and holding him against his chest as he sat forward. “What the hell!?” “What happened?” “He fucking jumped at me.” “Language.” Bad left the awkward potion in the stand, messing with the last of the shrinking potion on a different flower pot. “I was bored! There’s literally nothing to do.” “You could sleep. Sam will be back soon, and after that stunt I’m not putting you down until he does.” “You didn’t put me down to begin with.” “Cause you ran off in the Nether.” “Right, and you retaliated by-“ Sapnap shifted his hand, making the smaller topple over and effectively cutting off his words. He looked up, ready to curse him out for doing so, but caught the somewhat panicked look in his eye despite a nonchalant frown remaining on his face.
Oh right. If I didn’t know, George and Antfrost definitely don’t. They probably won’t react well.
“What happened in the Nether?” George looked amused by the interaction, not catching the same look that Dream had. “Wound up having to chase him down before he fell off a cliff. Trapped him under my hands to punish him, not much else I could have done without hurting him.” Sapnap said coolly, learning back against the wall. “What is taking Sam so long, anyway? The portal opened near a crimson forest.” As if the mention of him summoned the man, the door opened and Sam stepped in, holding a few crimson mushrooms in his hands. “You two could have told me the forest was full of piglins.” “This just in: Nether mobs spawn in the Nether.” Sapnap bit back, watching him give Bad the mushrooms. “The forest was literally swarmed with them, that was not normal spawning.”
“Maybe not to you. To me and Bad it seemed pretty normal.” “You didn’t even go into the crimson forest! I didn’t, so you didn’t.” Dream cut off the back and forth before it could continue.
“At least this is almost over.” George muttered, watching the potion finish brewing.
Bad gave it only a second once it finished before grabbing it and pouring a small bit onto an unaffected flower, all six players watching with bated breath for it to take effect.
The second they saw the flower begin to grow, Bad immediately handed the bottle to Sapnap, who held it out for Dream to drink from. The shrunken speedrunner gratefully drank from the potion, though barely made a dent in it before having to stop. Sapnap was getting ready to set him onto the ground so he could grow, but he didn’t get the chance before his friend suddenly grew to his normal height, toppling overtop of him.
At least for his part, Dream seemed sheepish about the incident. “Whoops?” Sapnap remained where he lay, only shifting to get more comfortable. “I’m good.” He responded, letting his eyes fall closed.
“Right,” Dream sighed, sitting up and stretching his arms. “So are we gonna do a head start for this, or are we just picking up where we left off?”
The hunters all shared a look of concern, Sapnap’s eyes opening only to lock onto Dream’s form. “How about neither?” “You definitely need to rest more.” “I don’t think it’s a good idea. What if something goes wrong because of the potions again?” Dream waved them off, moving to his knees to start standing up. “You guys are worrying too much. Besides, we’ve already wasted enough time on this. Can’t we just finish this game up?”
George offered him a very skeptical look from where he was leaning against the wall of the church. Nobody else got a word in before Sapnap rolled his eyes and tugged Dream back down to the ground, holding him against his chest and warming his body up. “Sapnap! Let me go!” “Not until you sleep, idiot.” “I already slept. You know I did.” “Not for long enough.”
He noticed the three hunters who stayed in the overworld giving each other confused glances, and hid a smile against his friend’s shoulder. They didn’t need to know what happened in the Nether. Instead, his attention focused back on Dream, who had finally settled down into his arms with a huff. “Fine. Fine, but none of you can be mad when I try to get ahold of you all to reschedule this for later.” “Like we would have to begin with. Probably wind up with another manhunt anyway.” “‘The grand finale rematch’ rematch.” Sapnap joked, keeping his arms locked around Dream’s front. “Oh, fuck off.” “Language.”
“Should we keep messing around with potions now that we found these?” George was getting ready to close the book and quill he had. “We don’t have to, but I’d be curious to try brown and red mushrooms since warped and crimson mushrooms have effects now.” “Honestly? Me too.”
The conversation lasted longer, but Dream paid it no mind, letting his focus drift to the dark behind his eyelids, and the heartbeat and warmth of his friend behind him. Strangely enough, he almost felt… sad, that the experience was over. Which, he could always just shrink himself again now that they have the potion recipes. But, with this experience he honestly felt like he’d gotten closer (pun intended) to Sapnap than he had been before. And if he was being honest, he was surprised to find that he missed in Sapnap’s storage stomach, pouch? He couldn’t remember what it was called, but it didn’t really matter. He didn’t get a chance to further think on those feelings before his consciousness faded like a light being flipped off.

I promised I was working on fics!!!
Content warnings: soft, safe g/t vore. Mentions of slight panic on multiple parties, potion gone wrong?
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Dream cackled, giving chase to the two smaller people. In the nether, normally he wouldn’t be so reckless, what with the piglins and the rough terrain, but…
~ ~ ~
He’d been collecting blaze rods in the fortress, with only Sapnap and George in the nether with him. He guessed the other three hunters were grinding for material, or trading with villagers to get better material. They’d done it before, he wouldn’t put it past them. At seven, he heard them yelling close by, and tucked himself behind the fencing of the blaze spawner, waiting to see them. Sure enough, they came around the corner pretty quickly, only seeing the spawner.
“Didn’t you say you heard him over here?” George spoke, irritation evident in his tone. “I did. Even if he’s not here, he’s still in the fortress. There’s no way in hell he got far enough to not be close by.” Sapnap bit back, stepping up into the area with the spawner. Which.. meant that he’d be spotted easily. Taking a breath to settle the nerves twisting his stomach, he put a foot on the rung of the fence, hands reaching up so he could vault over it.
The second he and Sapnap made eye contact, he swung himself over the fencing and bolted away.
Or, he intended to, until the sound of breaking glass right behind him and a strange sensation filled his body, the smell of burning earth filling his nose. Unused to the sensation, it being nothing like shrinking potion’s effects, he doubled over, slightly worried as he felt choked up. It was like everything he had on was too tight…
When the sensation disappeared, he was immediately alerted to George and Sapnap screaming at one another. “Why the fuck would you brew a growth potion!?” “I used the wrong mushroom, it was an accident, I got them mixed up-“ “You are not fucking colorblind to blue!”
Oh. So it was a growth potion. He looked down at both of them, too caught up in their argument to realize he wasn’t incapacitated by the effects any longer. Sizing them up, he noted that Sapnap would easily fit in the palm of his hand. George, on the other hand, probably would be a little under the size of his hand. So technically, George had just doomed them to lose. With a grin the other two couldn’t see, he began to slowly reach for the brunette. Unfortunately, Sapnap caught the movement and yanked George away from his hand. The grin only widened as the fireborn glared up at him nervously, dragging George with him as he began to back up.
“We run on three.” The blackette muttered into George’s ear. He gave a small nod, eyes locked onto their now giant pursuer.
“1,” Dream had pulled himself onto his feet, crouched down so he could keep an eye on them but also give chase as he suspected he would be.
“2,” The nerves George had were threatening to choke him, breath coming unevenly. Sapnap was better at hiding his own nerves, but it didn’t mean he didn’t feel chills running through his spine at what look he imagined Dream having under the mask.
It was like time had come to a standstill, lasting an eternity and a second all at once.
“3!” And then the prey were running, and Dream began to laugh, gladly giving chase.
~ ~ ~
The terrain was getting worse, mixes of soul sand valleys and rough netherrack to traverse, all while being pursued by someone who could literally break anything standing between him and them. That, and the mobs that weren’t scared off still tried to attack them.
They’d been running long enough that the hot air of the nether burned the human’s lungs, and Sapnap’s legs burned from exertion. As if that wasn’t bad enough, George was beginning to lose his footing more and more, and the ghasts blowing holes in their path wasn’t making it any easier. Finally, George had slipped right into a hole a ghast had blown up, and Sapnap, still clinging to his hand, went down with him. He didn’t expect lava, prime no. Not with Dream so close behind them.
Sure enough, they landed with a harsh thud into the giant’s fingers, digits curling around both of them to keep them safe as he pulled them up. A sigh of relief escaped the blonde, unfurling his hand once he’d gotten the two up to a safe spot. George had passed out, exhaustion and fear making his consciousness shut off like a light, and Sapnap couldn’t say he was faring any better. “Jesus, Dream. You scared the fuck out of us.” The man in question moved his mask to the side, giving the fireborn a shit-eating grin. “Your fault for thinking potions are a good idea. What were you gonna do if you had the right potion, Sapnap?” “You know damn well what I would have done.” He rolled his eyes, falling back so he lay beside their brunette friend.
“Maybe I should return the favor, then.”
“With what potion?” Dream simply used his open hand to pull the purple elixir out of his inventory. “For fucks sake, man. You’re, like, obsessed with storing.” “You never know when you need it. I know I don’t need to remind you.” A shiver went down Sapnap’s spine at the mere mention of the incident with XD. “Yeah, yeah. Hurry up, then, I wanna sleep before the others come looking.”
George went first, easier and yet harder to get down. It wasn’t that he was scared or nervous as to why he didn’t watch, he just wanted to keep an eye out for the others. At least, that’s what he’s telling himself. He had that discussion with his fiancés already, Dream doesn’t need to request another one on one.
When he was finally tipped into the other’s maw, he relaxed instantly. If it had been near the beginning, when the last person he’d been stored by was Bad when he was a kid, he may have been more hesitant, but now he simply went limp, a soft purr building up as he let the larger do whatever he wanted. He wasn’t kept there for long, only licked enough to make it easy to get him down.
“Dream!?” He all but smashed the poor fireborn to the roof of his mouth, wincing at the angry and surprised yelp that he pulled out the other. He couldn’t focus on that long, seeing as the man’s father was nearing quickly. “What the muffin happened!?” He swiped his mask in front of his face, quickly swallowing the smaller down to join George. “Uh, potion gone wrong?” He replied, slightly out of breath. “Potion gone wrong? What were you trying to do!?” “More what George was trying to do. They tried to shrink me, and they had the wrong potion.” “Okay, Sapnap is not that dumb. He wouldn’t have let that happen. Speaking of which, where are they? Did you scare them off?” “They’re closer than you think, I just stopped chasing them.”
The demon’s eyes narrowed, glaring the mask down as he thought about the man’s answer. “Right. And they definitely aren’t in your stomach. Because you don’t have purple potions on hand.” He sighed. “What gave it away?” “You just did.” The smaller smirked. “And I heard you and Sapnap talking about the potion before I made it over here. Heightened senses, remember?” “Oh-“ “But I don’t know what you meant when you said you don’t need to remind him. Did something happen?” “I wouldn’t worry about it, Bad. We got it taken care of.” The look on the demon’s face told him that the other wasn’t gonna drop it, but he relented regardless. “So now what? Do we call it off again?” “Gonna have to. You’re down two hunters and I can’t shrink without releasing them.” “Then how are you gonna get back through the portal?”
“. . . Oh.” Dream hadn’t considered that. Bad sighed exasperatedly. “I’ll call Sam, see what he can do.”
After a bunch of time was spent grinding for diamonds to make a pickaxe and then getting a lot of obsidian, Sam and Antfrost had finally made a portal big enough for Dream to come through, lighting it after informing the other two that it was complete. Sam went through alone, Antfrost offering to stay back and watch for mobs. Thankfully, the portal spawned pretty close to where his now giant friend sat, Bad curled up beside his neck. “Hey Sam.” Dream spoke lowly, offering a sheepish smile. “I’m about to give up on these manhunts if this is all we’re gonna do anymore.” He groaned, glaring up at the larger. “Blame George. He’s the one that started all this.” “And where is he now?” He quipped, turning to lead them back to the large portal. “Do I really need to answer that?” Dream hovered a hand over the demon on his shoulder, keeping him steady as he rose up to follow the creepertaur. Sam did his best to not act intimidated by the thundering footsteps behind him, reminding himself that it was his friend. “I’d rather you didn’t.” With that, the purple swirls of the portal came into view, and Sam wasted no time going through it, beckoning the giant to do the same.
Antfrost rolled his eyes when Dream stepped through the portal. “Should have known something was up when Sapnap and George were being all secretive about a plan.” “They were trying to shrink me again, you can see how well that went.” “Are they coming? Or..?” Dream’s face dropped in shock, suddenly thankful for the mask covering his expression. “I told those two they had to collect some supplies from the nether for ruining another manhunt.” Bad filled in, tail curling slightly around one of Dream’s fingers. The giant couldn’t tell if it was for his comfort or because he was lying to save their skins. Either way, a soft sigh of relief escaped him, and thankfully it seemed that the cat hybrid shrugged the entire situation off. “Serves them right. Trying to be all secretive during what’s supposed to be a team effort, no wonder we keep losing.”
They said their goodbyes pretty quickly after that, Sam and Antfrost going their own ways. Bad counted up to a hundred after they’d left before turning to Dream. “Now what?” “I guess I make- oh.” “What?” “Was gonna make a splash potion of shrinking. Kinda can’t do that at this size.” The demon groaned. “You all are impossible. I’ll go get the stuff for it.” “Thank you, Bad.” “You're welcome, you muffinhead.”
~ ~ ~
Dream didn’t release the two when he got to his base, sending a text to Quackity and Karl to let them know that Sapnap was gonna spend the night. He knew he should give them the choice, at least, but both were still sleeping pretty heavily and he felt bad trying to wake them up. He wasn’t even worried about his own bodily needs; He’ll just eat a lot of breakfast tomorrow and make up for missing two meals today. Not like he felt hungry anyway. He himself felt pretty tired, flopping onto his back on the couch. Should he have gone to his bed? Maybe, he was too tired to really care though. The couch is good enough. He drifted off quickly, arms draped subconsciously over his stomach.

Sapnap began to get curious.
Naturally, he would. As far as he’d been aware, Dream’s been a human. Though with the kind of behavior and such that he’s displayed, both to him alone and in manhunts or hanging out with George, led him to begin to believe otherwise. Which is fair, he thinks, because he’d always thought Karl had been human too and it turned out that he wasn’t. So since he started writing stuff down in a book and quill for his shapeshifting fiancé, he decided to make one for his admin friend as well. So far, the bullet points were pretty bare.
1: Dream has told him several times that he feels cold, and seems to have developed that since the first time he was stored?
2: Dream also had no issue at all with being stored, which normally wouldn’t count as a point but the admin also let himself be stored by other preds, and not just him. Almost like it wasn’t just a friend to friend activity, but an instinct of his own.
3: Like the previous point, normally he wouldn’t consider it a point, but it seemed kinda weird that in almost every manhunt they did he somehow got dolphins to speed him up. It was strange to him, because it was like they specifically targeted his friend.
He hadn’t seen any traits that the other had to indicate that he wasn’t human, but some things just didn’t seem to add up. He tried thinking of any kind of hybrid that wouldn’t show visible traits, but his brain just kept blanking. It was during one of those sessions that he finally caved and asked his fiancés for any ideas. “I honestly think he’s just weird.” Quackity retorted, sticking his fork into his mouth. They’d made an easy meal that night, chicken and rice and salad. “I mean, the stuff you have written down could be traits to a nonhuman nature, but I seriously doubt he’s not a human. You’ve known him for how long? He would have shown other traits by now.” “You didn’t show nesting instincts until I stored you.” He pointed out, the avian looking aside so that he and Karl couldn’t see the pink painting his face at the call out. “I mean, you guys knew me for years, yet neither of you knew I wasn’t human until recently. Maybe it’s just now showing up?”
“I dunno.” Sapnap looked over the three points he had written in the book again, trying to think if he was missing one. “Do you think George may know? No offense, but those two are pretty damn close and he may know things you don’t.” “That’s a fair point. It’s worth a shot.”
When he’d gone to call George, he took the call outside, especially once he heard his taller fiancé start laughing and playfully yelling as the avian attempted to catch him with a splash potion of shrinking. Rolling his eyes at their antics, he pulled up his friend’s contact and pressed the call button. “What’s going on?” He only took two rings to answer, which was better than what he’d been expecting of the notorious sleeper. “You with Dream right now?” “No, why?” “I’m just curious about something, dunno if he’d take well to me asking.” “What are you talking about?” “Have you ever noticed Dream show any kind of nonhuman behavior?”
“Besides wanting to be eaten all the time?” “I mean, that’s part of my point. Like, he does get eaten a lot, and even though I know Sam and Quackity are his friends too, it’s just weird that he asks for it so often. Like it’s not a friend to friend thing.” A soft sigh was the first answer he got, then a somewhat thoughtful hum. “So you think he’s some sort of hybrid? One that likes being in warm and dark spaces?” “I was thinking more of like prey instincts, like hiding away from predators. It’d make sense, since that instinct would be the opposite of those of us who do store people.” Before the brunette could respond, he suddenly added, “But you’re right too. It could be instincts to be in warm and dark spaces. Doesn’t Fundy do something like that?” “Fundy’s traits are obvious though. He’s a fox, of course he wants to be somewhere that resembles a burrow.”
“Some kind of cold-blooded animal, then? Maybe one that doesn’t have obvious traits?” “Most cold blooded animals are either fish or reptiles, and both have scales. Unless that’s why he wears long sleeves and pants all the time, since there aren’t any on his face.” “Guess we’ll have to see if he’d let us look. Well, thanks anyway, George.” “No problem. See you tomorrow?” “Of course.” When he got back inside, he immediately went to the book he’d left on the dining room table, writing down some questions for later on. He was just finishing writing the word ‘cold-blooded’ when he felt arms wrapped behind them, those of which were too small to be Karl’s in either form. “Hey Q.” “Hey yourself.” He was about to ask where their other fiancé was, but paused as he felt something move against his back. He turned so he could face the other, stealing a glance to the other’s slightly larger abdomen. “You actually got him?” “Did you doubt me?” Before the avian could continue his mock offense, he gasped, wrapping his arms around his stomach.
“Stop, please.” “Is he bothering you?” “No, he’s just really squirmy. I’m still not used to this form, he’s bigger.” He knew the blackette well enough to know the slightly sharp tone wasn’t due to annoyance, just confusion and even slight worry. Though, that’s not new for Quackity when he stored people. It was endearing, in a way that people who didn’t partake in the activity wouldn’t really get. It’s not as if Karl didn’t know that fact, either. He knew the other wouldn’t purposely bring harm to himself and he’s definitely been in the avian’s crop enough times to know where to avoid. With that in mind, he took one of Quackity’s hands off his stomach and tugged him towards the bedroom so they could all lay down. “Did George help you any?” “Yes and no. I think we both have the same thought, but all he really did was kind of point me in the right direction. I’m just gonna have to confront him myself.”
When he’d finished changing into night clothes, he found the avian already laying down, arms back around his stomach to squish the other and make him stop. “Just let him tire himself out. You know he will.” “I’m already tired. I don’t want to wait for him, I wanna sleep now.” He all but whined back, pouting as the fireborn slipped in beside him.
Once again, he removed the blackette’s arm from his stomach, replacing it with his own as he curled up beside him, resting his head low enough that his senses could pick up the shapeshifter’s giggles. “Karl, won’t you let your poor fiancé go to bed?” “I can. Go ahead and sleep, Sapnap, I’ll let you.” The offended squawk that erupted from the avian was far too funny for either to not laugh. Face a bright red, he sat up, throwing Sapnap’s arm off of him and turning away. “I’m divorcing you. Both of you.” “No you’re not.” Karl immediately replied, settling back down after being suddenly thrown to the side. When all he got in response was a huff, he had a hard time holding his giggles back. “I’ll stop, Q. I’ll let you sleep.” “Oh now you’ll let me, after I divorce you.” “You’re not divorcing us, Quackity. I won’t let you.” Sapnap wrapped his arms around the other again, burying his face in his shoulder. Quackity chose to ignore the fact that his wings would be aching from being tucked in all night, instead relaxing into the heat of his netherborn fiancé and the fullness his other nonhuman fiancé gave him.
“You know we love you, right?” He pressed a kiss against the other’s neck, and Quackity sighed. “Of course I do. I love you both too, even if you infuriate me to no end.” Karl moved to pat at the walls around him, conveying the same idea. “It’s just too fun, Q. Good night, I love you.” “I love you too, Karl. Goodnight. You too, Sapnap.”
They fell asleep relatively quickly, and the fireborn felt content despite the questions still swirling around his head.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Finding Dream was easy the next morning. Neither had any plans, so they both simply wound up at the same place at the same time and found their way back to the admin’s base. Idle conversation was made, but all Sapnap could think of was the book and quill burning a hole in his inventory. Inevitably, he found himself asking.
“So.. have you ever considered the idea that you’re not human?” “What?” “I mean, me and George have been talking about it, and it would make sense. You’ve got some traits to you that just scream ‘hybrid’ at me, I dunno.” “I mean, I’ve never put much thought into it. I don’t think I am? How about you tell me your ideas and we’ll see.” Sapnap pulled the book from his inventory, more than happy to share. “First thing I have is just the fact that you like being stored. You can’t say it’s not true, because you let at least three if not more hybrids store you.” The blonde didn’t even deny, giving a half shrug. “What else?” “You keep talking about how you’re too cold. I know humans can have problems staying warm but it seems to be a huge problem for you. And it could also tie into the storing thing.” “Well, yea. I’m literally inside someone else’s body, of course it’s warm.” “And every time we do manhunts and you go into the water, you always get a dolphin to help you swim if not more. That’s not a normal thing. It’s like they go for you specifically.” “Okay..?” “So me and George think you’ve gotta be either a water mob hybrid or a cold-blooded animal hybrid.”
“So a lizard or a fish?” “Well-“ “I know for a fact I don’t have scales, Sapnap.” Dream chuckled, faltering slightly when he saw the unamused look he got in return. “I don’t! I don’t have to prove that to you, if I had scales you’d know. I’d have to upkeep them, wouldn’t I?” The fireborn hummed in acknowledgment, scratching any scaled creatures off the list. “Maybe Q was right and you’re just a weird human. I might be looking into this too much.” He sighed, staring at the minimal animals left on the paper. “Unless you think you’re an axolotl.” “What’s the significance of them? Why’re they on the list?” “They swim well since they’re literally a water mob, and I’m pretty sure they get along with dolphins. Wonder who that reminds me of, Mr. Jump in the ocean every manhunt.” Dream snorted. “That can’t be the only reason. What else?” “They hide in small, dark spaces to stay away from predators. They’re cold blooded, so they can’t regulate their own body temperature and require a heat source. Plus, they don’t have scales, more like skin.” As he went down the list of traits he found the small mob to have, he realized that the traits matched up with Dream’s traits almost one for one.
It seemed that Dream was having the same realization, because then he was asking more questions. “Has there ever been a water mob hybrid to not have gills?” “Hybrids, probably. You also have lungs that function like a human’s lungs should, so maybe you did have gills and they just closed up when the body realized they weren’t necessary.” “But don’t axolotls have their gills on their ears? That’s what I’ve heard.” “I think they have two sets. Based on what I read, at least. They don’t chew their food, they don’t have a need to plus they’re also bottom feeders. The second set is kinda necessary for them, but it wouldn’t be for you.” Dream fell quiet after that, taking in the information presented to him. After a short moment of silence, hesitance tainted the admin’s next words. “Is there a way to know for sure?” “I’m sure there’s a way to find out. Wanna go try to find a water mob hybrid?”
~ ~ ~
If there were few avian hybrids in the server, there were fewer water mob hybrids. They’d thought that Niki was one, but apparently they’d been wrong (though not too far off, as she told them she would enjoy being one if she had the opportunity). Tommy wound up tagging along after they’d left Niki, despite Dream’s insistence that he didn’t. Eventually, he caved and told the younger man the situation at hand. They should have seen the laughing coming.
“Sorry, I’m just- the big man himself, Dream, an axolotl hybrid? Even Sapnap’s got a cooler hybrid trait.” “What’s wrong with axolotls?” The older blonde became defensive quickly. “I mean, there’s nothing really wrong with them, I just don’t think it fits you.” “Well it fits the traits I apparently have. Ask Pandas, he has a whole book and quill on it.” “I thought he had instincts. We both think he does, now.” “Huh.” Tommy trailed off, thinking for a moment. “Y’know, they said I had instincts too, thought I was an avian hybrid without wings.” “Really?” Sapnap smiled, though confused as to why he was mentioning it. Probably trying to fit in a little more, and the fireborn was happy to indulge the kid. “Yea, Phil was all over it when I was younger. Wilbur wasn’t as overbearing with it, but he also thought I was one. Techno seemed like the only one who believed me when I said I wasn’t a hybrid. Dunno if I am or not still, but at least he didn’t push it like the other two did.”
“Sounds like a pain.” Dream said. “It was. But Phil might actually be able to help if you can’t find a water mob hybrid to help you. He might be able to point you in the right direction to figuring it out.” “That’s… oddly helpful. Thank you, Tommy.” “No problem. And since you two let me walk with you, you didn’t see me from this point onwards.” With a mischievous grin, the young blonde was gone, and the other two could only guess what he was up to, or had been up to before he found them.
With a fond sigh and a shake of their heads, they decided to humor the kid’s idea and head over to the arctic.
~ ~ ~
“Tommy said you might stop by.” Wilbur stepped back from the doorframe, allowing the fireborn access to the house which he quickly accepted, practically sprinting to the fireplace. “What was he up to earlier?” “Messed around with Niki’s ingredients. Her and Jack are pissed, and now he’s on his way back out there to help them fix it. Phil!” He turned more into the house to call the eldest, heading to the living room where Sapnap was essentially curled up inside the fireplace, with Techno reading a book on the chair close by. “Techno.” Dream gave a nod, which was returned by the piglin. “Dream. Get any closer to figuring it out?” “Tommy told everyone, didn’t he?” “Just us three. And if he gave you shit for thinking you’re an axolotl hybrid let us know and we’ll gladly put some sense in him.” Wilbur cut in, sitting on the couch close by as footsteps began to descend the stairs.
Philza was holding a few books as he came down, peeking over them to see where everyone was standing before maneuvering around the blonde still standing and dropping the books down beside the brunette on the couch. “Right, so I had to do a bit of digging in the library to find anything on water mob hybrids. They’re surprisingly rare, especially in this SMP. You may be the only one, Dream.” “How do we find out for sure?” “Well, there’s no real way to know for sure. It was easy with me and Wilbur because we have wings. It’s easy for the netherborns because they were born in the nether. But I don’t really know much about you, and unless you know your past, we may just have to assume.” “Sally didn’t show many signs of being a water mob hybrid, though she was more of a shifter than a hybrid. Dunno if that really helps.”
“Me and Sapnap are pretty sure about this. He wrote down a whole list of traits he says I have, and a lot of animals that could be related to it. But most of those animals have hybrids who have scales, and I know for a fact I don’t. The axolotl was literally the last one on his list, I think. It’s either that or I’m just a weird human.” “Those won’t be the only traits you’ll see if you two are correct, which is why I brought these down.” He handed Dream the first book from his pile, a book dedicated entirely to axolotls. “That’ll just help you when it comes to traits specific to that animal. This is the one Wilbur used when Sally was still around,” he handed the blonde a book that was about nothing but water mob hybrids. “Speaking of, Sapnap. How’s the avian book helping with Quackity?” “It’s helped a lot. A mix of that and Wilbur stopping by every now and then to tell me and Karl what we’re doing wrong.” “I only do it because Quackity won’t do it himself. Like the preening thing, if his wings become a wreck again like they were before I swear I’ll throttle him.” “It is nice to hear that you're helping them out, though Wil. I know you and Quackity haven’t had the best history.” Phil praised, causing the other avian to ‘look at the time’ and give himself an out to go to his own home.
Dream took the time to flip through the book, reading through it as fast as he could and making mental notes on anything that connected to him. “You don’t have to read all of it right now-“ “I seriously think we’ve got a point, Sapnap. Uh- Sorry, Phil.” The older man just seemed amused. “But yea, I think I might actually be an axolotl hybrid, or at least a water mob hybrid if nothing else. Like obviously I don’t have gills-“ “You also have functioning lungs. They would have closed pretty early in your childhood.” “And it would explain like why Puffy adopted me. Maybe she did find me when I was young and had traits more aligned with axolotls- why didn’t we think to go ask her!?” Sapnap simply shrugged. “I dunno, but I’m still freezing so you’re not dragging me back out into that frozen wasteland yet.” “You don’t retain heat well anymore, do you?” “I’m still part human, Techno. Not everyone gets lucky like you.” “Oh that makes it worse. You’re too hot and you can’t keep yourself that way.” “You don’t have to fucking remind me.”
It was the sound of a communicator ringing that cut their conversation short. “Hello?” “Puffy?” “Dream? What’s going on?” “I just needed to ask something. It’s about when I was a kid, if that’s okay.” A soft chuckle was his first response. “I was wondering when you were gonna ask. I remember that vividly, even though you don’t.” “Yeah, uh.. was I human? Or like a fish or something? Some kind of water mob?” “You were a human form, your body was. But you had fringed gold ears that shot off of your head, and gills on your neck as well. When I pulled you up, thinking you were a human child, your ears shifted suddenly to human ears, and I’m fairly certain they never came back.” “Oh.” Dream was silent for a moment, processing the realization. He was an axolotl hybrid. Sapnap was right!
“So, to answer your question, yes. You were a water mob, though more of a hybrid than the mob itself. But you refused to leave the ship, and I wasn’t about to kick you off to make you fend for yourself. So I do take the blame for you not having the traits that of your hybrid nature. I’m sorry.” “No, no, it’s okay! This is great, actually. I'm showing traits now, they’re just more instinctual than visible. You’ve been a huge help, Puffy, thank you.” “Of course! But you’d better come see me soon, it’s been forever!” “I will. Bye.”
After he hung up, he turned to the fireborn who had the same excitement and relief on his face. “So I wasn’t crazy.” “Never said you were, Sapnap.” “That explains it, then. Your secondary gills went away as your lungs began to function, and eventually your gills just completely vanished as well, being unnecessary.” Phil added. “You can keep the books if they’ll help you learn more about your hybrid traits.” “If you don’t mind me having them.” “Well after learning this, I don’t expect them back. They’ll help you more than they help me sitting in my library, that’s for sure.”
They stayed for supper, as Sapnap adamantly refused to leave the house until Dream physically dragged him out of it, giving both members of the house a wave as the two made their way back to the main SMP.
“Well, that was fun.” “I’m just glad we figured all this out in the same day. Think I would have gone crazy if it got dragged out longer.” Sapnap chuckled. “Next question: who all are we wanting to know about this? I’m sure my fiancés are gonna be intrigued, and I know George will be.” “I don’t really care, I mean, Tommy’s probably gonna tell everyone anyway.” As they made it to the nether portals, they exchanged goodbyes as both headed towards their respective homes.

“So.. did you figure it out?” He’d been wrapped up in a hug from the avian since he’d stepped into the kitchen, supper in the oven finishing cooking. “Yeah. He’s an axolotl hybrid.” “A what?” “Axolotl?” Quackity pulled back with a bewildered look. “There’s no way. He doesn’t have any kind of visible traits.” “Puffy confirmed it, his gills just closed because he’d been using his lungs instead.” “What about the ears? And-“ “Puffy said his ears just morphed into human ears when she pulled him aboard her ship. She pretty much just said ‘oh yea you’re a hybrid I just never mentioned it again’.” The Mexican rolled his eyes. “Of course she did.” “What are we talking about?”
“Karlos!” The shapeshifter was in his human form, though with slightly off proportions and golden and pink swirls in his confused eyes. “Hey, Karl.” Sapnap held an arm out as an invitation, the brunette stepping easily into his fiancé’s arms. “We found Dream's hybrid animal.” “Oh? What is it?” “A fucking axolotl of all things.” Quackity butted in. “Aww, I can see it. Kinda fits him.” “Definitely fits him.” “I guess I can see it.” Sapnap gave the avian a light nudge to his ribs with his elbow, pulling away from the hug to look at the oven. “So when’s dinner gonna be ready?” “Didn’t you eat at Phil’s?” “Oh no, now you’re going to Philza’s house without saying anything too?” “Tommy made us, said Phil’s probably our best bet. We kinda forgot about Puffy. But yea I already ate because I was freezing from the walk there and I didn’t wanna walk back.”
With a small laugh from his fiancés, he was ushered over to the dining room table regardless, the other two finishing up dinner and joining him quickly afterwards. Idle chat about the other two’s days were made as they ate, and cleaning up went very quick with all three helping. Their avian took off upstairs while the other two went to the living room to put on a movie, suspecting nothing but the other simply going to sleep. Karl laid down on the sofa, head against the armrest and held his arms open for the other to join him. Sapnap laid back so his head rested against the brunette’s chest, on his back so he could still see the movie.
It wasn’t until a small weight fell onto the fireborn’s chest that he realized Quackity’s real intention. Karl stifled a laugh from beneath him as he pulled the avian up to his face so he could look at him. “What’s this about?” “I’m tired and you two just wanna watch movies!” The smaller crossed his arms at the fireborn, pouting. “You’re free to join us, you know.” Karl pointed out, amusement flooding his voice. “I don’t have the energy to watch a movie, though. I just wanna cuddle with my fiancés.” “Well-“ “Okay, Q. I’ll give you what you want.” Sapnap cut the other off, fighting a smirk as he brought the other up to his mouth and tipped him in without any warning. A string of Spanish words (he guaranteed they were all swears) fell from the Mexican’s mouth as he ungracefully tumbled into his fiancé’s maw, barely able to stop himself from falling right back into his throat. If it hadn’t been for the blackette pinning him to the roof of his mouth with his tongue, he may have.
The pressure relented pretty quickly, though the other didn’t make a move until he felt the heartbeat on his tongue slow to a more reasonable pace. Though, the tips of his ears burned as he moved the shrunken man around to get him ready, as he could feel eyes on the back of his head. It seemed that his other fiancé could feel his temperature rise, because a confused yet amused hum came from behind. “We’ve done this so many times, do you really still get embarrassed doing it in front of other people?” Well, it was rude to talk with his mouth full, so he tried to swallow quietly until the avian went past his windpipe and he could breathe properly again, flopping his head back down on the other’s chest and glaring up at the orange eyes looking back at him. “It’s different when someone’s watching you do it, Karl.” “But it’s not different when I did it the first time?” “I- you know what, this isn’t gonna get anywhere.” The arms wrapped loosely around his waist trailed up to his abdomen instead, one hand pressing where he knew his other fiancé would be residing, getting rubs from the inside at that particular spot in return. “Oh, don’t be like that, Sap. We were having fun.” With a roll of his eyes, the fireborn finally relaxed again, a soft purr building up now that his embarrassment faded.
He would have been content to sleep right there, but Karl made him get up and join him in their actual bed. With his shrunken fiancé completely relaxed within him and his other fiancé looking at him with enamored pink eyes, he simply found himself lucky once more. He could still remember when this all had started, and he always thought about how wrong it could have gone.
He was just thankful his friends and lovers were as ‘weird’ as he was.

This seems pretty cut off at the end but I intentionally did it because I thought it was funny-

It was supposed to be a normal mining trip. Granted, Sapnap had asked Tommy to tag along to try and keep the kid out of trouble and to have someone who could help out, and the teen was more than happy to. Despite that, it was normal at first! Yea, they noticed the skulk consuming some of the nearby deepslate, but with no shriekers or sensors they thought they were fine. At least, until Tommy spotted diamond ore and went to collect it. “Sapnap, look!” A hushed yell grabbed the fireborn’s attention, seeing the blonde crouched beside the ore. It was covered in skulk, but that was something that could be fixed easily.
“Nice! Go ahead and grab it.” He walked over, holding a torch out for the younger to see easier but keeping a lookout for any mobs to ambush. Most didn’t bother going near the deep dark, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
Oh, how sorry he was about to be.
A panicked yell had Sapnap whipping his head back around only to spot the teenager’s legs slipping through the hole the ore left when he’d mined it. “Tommy!” He lunged forward, barely catching the other’s ankle before he was out of reach. “Sap-“ his voice was quiet, from fear the fireborn couldn’t tell. And it scared him. “Sapnap, it’s an ancient city.” He whispered, breathing shakily as his whole body trembled to burn the adrenaline off. Sapnap used his free hand to get off of his knees, trying to brace himself to pull the other up. Of course, the universe had other plans, and the hiss of a creeper almost made him drop the boy. But it didn’t matter, because the two were free falling quickly, the creeper blowing the hole larger than before. Tommy barely bit back a scream, the blackette pulling the teen above him so he’d take the brunt of the fall.
It hurt, the impact of him on the ground and then Tommy on him knocking the wind from him. It seemed to knock the wind out of the teenager too, but he recovered quickly. “Sap-“ he whispered. “Sh.” The blonde scrambled off of him, trying to help him sit up. He didn’t even ask, grabbing the first pink potion he could find out of his inventory, practically shoving it at the other. Normally he’d argue, but the teen was frazzled enough and he was too hurt to fight if the Warden revealed himself. After his bones had set back into place, the teen gave him a look that screamed ‘what now?’ And wasn’t Sapnap just thinking the same thing? He was worried about the boy, that was for sure. He could get away from a warden if he was alone, he had no doubt about that. But if he had to fight for both him and Tommy’s lives, the two were in significantly more danger. If only there was a way to keep him safe. And wouldn’t he know it, his instincts were screaming now that he’d healed up.
Because there is a way to keep him safe.
“Tommy.” He spoke lowly, creeping closer to the teen so he didn’t wind up being too loud. “I can get us out of here. But you have to work with me.” He nodded immediately, watching the fireborn pull a familiar teal potion from his inventory and setting it into his hands. Immediately, he was reminded of when he’d tried to prank Quackity, and Sapnap had made the offer of letting the other in his own storage stomach. Logically, he wouldn’t have joked about it, plus he was a netherborn. He never hid that from anyone. And he knew Sapnap would be able to get them out better if he didn’t have to worry about someone else. So he quietly uncorked the bottle and downed it, already used to the taste from having done it so often.
When he’d come back to his senses, he was already tucked in the fireborn’s mouth, teeth held tightly shut to ensure nothing happened to him. Though, he couldn’t tell if the other was waiting for him to come to or not. With a sigh, he patted at the other’s tongue. “Go ahead, just be careful big man.”
He was not kept in the other’s maw for long, gently swiped at until he was deemed slick enough to safely make it down then nudged back so he could be swallowed. It took two swallows, due to the blackette trying to be as quiet as possible and due to his still lanky form. There was very little noise around him, the larger trying to keep his breaths quiet, though he couldn’t hide the racing of his heart. Tommy couldn’t hide the racing of his own, to be fair; he was terrified for his friend’s safety, especially after he’d taken the impact of the fall for him.
He slipped into the fireborn’s pouch quickly, and he barely moved except to make himself more comfortable where he lay, thoughts consumed with how the other was handling himself. Please be careful, Sapnap..

Trying to build or mine out of the ancient city was not going to work. The Warden would be notified immediately and protecting the younger would be for nothing if he died. He’d have to find a cave that already existed that led out, which would have been easier if they hadn’t fallen out of the roof of the cave. Thank prime for natural night vision, at least. Sneaking around the outskirts of the city, he seriously debated with himself about trying to get the chests on the edge. They’re cutting the mining trip short, and he’d feel bad if they didn’t return to their homes with all the ores they should have. But also? There was no way in hell he was going to put Tommy at unnecessary risk. He’ll mark the coords and return alone.
It took thirty-five agonizingly slow minutes before Sapnap found a cave heading upwards, the skulk changing to patches rather than completely consuming the stone. With a soft sigh of relief, he continued on, feeling drained as the adrenaline began to leave his system.

“You’re back!” “Yeah? Did you think I wasn’t coming?” “No, but you have been gone longer than we thought you’d be.” Quackity leaned against the doorway to the living room, arms crossed loosely over his chest. “Yeah, found an ancient city. Wish I would have found it on foot and not by falling several feet into the damn thing.” Karl’s eyes turned an icy blue and he all but leaped off the couch over to him, holding his arms out so he could check for injuries. “I already had a healing pot Karl.” “I’m getting you another one just in case.” Before he could even open his mouth, the brunette was off. He sighed, catching the avian’s gaze as he walked over, giving him a light kiss. “Dinner’s ready if you want to get a plate. Me and Karl already ate, we thought you might be staying at someone’s base for the night.” “I might later, I’m not that hungry right now. Just tired, honestly.” Though, he couldn’t quite puzzle out how he wasn’t hungry, deciding to chalk it up to adrenaline still leaving his system. To be fair, he was exhausted, and he just knew he’d be sore tomorrow. “Well, let’s go to bed then.” Quackity stifled a yawn. “I’m pretty tired too.”
Karl was waiting on the bed when they came into the room, holding a healing potion and two shrinking potions in his arms. “I.. kinda wanted to sleep in tonight, if you don’t mind..?” Embarrassment tinged the man’s face pink, almost as pink as his true form’s skin, and Sapnap chuckled at it. “You know I don’t care, Karl.” With a smile and golden and teal swirls in his eyes, the brunette set the other two potions to the side and drank a shrinking potion, closing his eyes as it began to take effect. Rolling his eyes, the other fiancé looked to the fireborn. “Do you want me, too?” “I don’t care, Q. You do what you wanna do, I’m good to cuddle either way.” He tugged his shirt over his head, grimacing as his arms ached in protest to the movement. He quickly pulled his night shirt over his head, turning back to the bed to find a healing potion and two shrunken fiancés waiting.
“Thanks for the show.” Karl winked as he was scooped into the larger man’s hands, Quackity laughing as he joined the other. For a moment, they simply watched his face grow redder. “Anytime, love.” He tried to smirk, but the blush painting his cheeks ruined the attempt, and it turned to a pout at his fiancés’ combined laughter at it. Still pouting, he popped both of them into his mouth while he sat down on the bed, forcing himself to not lay back. Not until he swallowed them, at least, simply because that would be the shittiest death message possible. He could imagine Dream laughing at him for months following it, too. He didn’t take long, though; Exhaustion was beginning to take a heavy toll on him, and he was more than ready to lay down. He swallowed Karl first, waiting until he felt him slide into his storage to swallow Quackity as well. Only then did he let himself get comfortable under the covers, relaxing his body completely for the first time since he’d woken up that morning.
Karl knew the routine, could feel it making him sleepy as he was swallowed down. He was completely limp by the time he’d slipped into the other’s storage. Though, the one thing the brunette was not expecting out of the routine was a sleeping Tommy. “Uh…” before he could even ask the fireborn about it, Quackity joined them, toppling Karl over and making him fall onto the teen, who jerked awake with a yell. “What the fuck!?” Both Quackity and Karl scrambled to right themselves, the avian unable to hide his shock either. “Tommy!?” Sapnap inhaled sharply at the commotion. Well, at least he knew now why he wasn’t hungry. “I completely forgot you were in there. I’m sorry Tommy, do you want out?” To all of the fiancés' surprise, he actually hesitated before answering. He.. felt really drained from earlier still, and he really didn’t wanna face any mobs heading home. Or, his somewhat overbearing family either. “You can stay here, Tommy. We’re not gonna force you out.” Karl offered the teenager. “I mean, we’re in here to sleep anyway so it’s not like it’s gonna be any different than usual.” “Don’t fucking push him to stay either, guys.” Sapnap pressed at where he felt the weight of the three lightly, snickering when he got a smack in retaliation. He couldn’t even tell if it was Tommy or Quackity. Hell, Karl may have done it too.
“If.. it’s really okay then I’ll stay. But only because I don’t wanna deal with any mobs.” The shrunken fiancés chose not to tell the teenager that they had a spare room that he could have stayed in. And if the purrs rumbling their surroundings were anything to go by, their netherborn fiancé didn’t plan to tell him either. Besides, they were all already in the warmest place in the house. “Well, get comfortable then.” And they did, Quackity laying against the closest wall while Tommy leaned on him from one side, Karl on the other. He had untucked his wings, and wet feathers gently brushed against the other two’s shoulders as they settled. By the time they all had stopped shuffling and shifting to get comfortable, loud snores already rumbled their surroundings courtesy of their holder.
When they woke up in the morning, it was to knocking on the door just loud enough to wake the fireborn. Careful not to jostle the three sleeping soundly within, he went down the stairs to answer the door. “Hello?” He asked groggily as he cracked the door open, only for sleep to completely exit his system upon seeing the teenager’s brother. “Hello, Sapnap. I take it you just woke up?” “Yeah, what do you need?” He rubbed at his eyes as the other considered his words. “Well, Tommy never came home last night, and last we heard he was going on a mining trip with you. We assumed he stayed over last night, so I thought I’d save you all a trip to the arctic and come get him.” A nervous chuckle escaped the fireborn. “Uh, yeah he did stay over last night. But he’s still… sleeping.” He finished lamely. “Sleeping?” He nodded, and the brunette’s eyes narrowed slightly. Not in anger or annoyance, just trying to read the other. “I take it he’s.. sleeping in?” He took a minute to considered his words before saying them, and Sapnap was reminded of how Karl had asked to be stored the previous night. He nodded, and a mix of a smirk and a smile came to the revived man’s face. “Well, he knows the way home. Did Big Q leave for Las Nevadas yet?” “Nah, he wanted to sleep in.” “Guess I’ll beat him there. Wonder how he’ll feel walking in to see me sitting at his desk. He’d probably flip.” “I bet it’d be funny. He’ll give us hell when he comes home but still.” “Well, I’ll let you be then. Have a good morning.” “You too.” He watched awkwardly as the other left, becoming aware of the small peeps of laughter coming from his storage.
“Very funny. Just laugh it up.” He scoffed, pushing off of the doorframe and heading to the kitchen to start on breakfast. “Is it just you awake, Karl?” “Yep.” He popped the p, settling back down. “I’ll wait until all of you are awake to let you out, I’m gonna make breakfast. What do you want?” “Dunno.” “You’re so helpful. Fine, I’m just making whatever then.” It took the other two until breakfast was finished to wake up, and the only reason they woke up then was because Sapnap woke them up by letting the brunette out. A flurry of curses brought the other two up as well, joining Karl in the impromptu bath in the kitchen sink. “Wait, what the hell am I supposed to do about clothes?” Tommy complained, shaking his head to try and dry it to the dismay of his other shrunken companions.
“Uh-“ Sapnap cut off with a laugh. “Well, I probably should have thought of that before sending your brother away.” “ARE YOU FUCKING-“
