SHAMELESS CREATORS NETWORK MARCH THEME: GROWTH🌱

mickey + roots (an excerpt from James Norbury) [x]

when i sat and thought about mickey and growth i found myself imagining roots. moments of growth that didn't feel exactly like blooming but like rebirth and creating a foundation for his own desires and his own place in the world. the first thing a seed does before it breaks through towards the sun is that it sprouts roots down into the dirt below. what we see on the surface growing upwards is delicate, easily blows in the wind, and easy to tear. but that is deceptive, because hidden in the earth there are hundreds of roots weaving around and in-between the soil, the stones, and even older stronger roots. they reach lower and wider making themselves a permanent piece of the land to the point that to truly extract it would require extraordinary strength and effort that would leave behind a literal crater in the earth. we see so many plants get mowed over or seem to die in the winter, but their roots keep them alive and we see them flourish again and again. and that is what mickey's growth feels like to me. he planted himself a new place in ian's existence and he grew deep strong roots that stayed alive even when things above the surface looked bleak. and now they can weather any storm.

Mickey deserved an arc like Richie’s in the bear. where he finds a job/hobby (tattooing maybe) he enjoys and gets really good at it and people believe in him and they tell him he’s really good and so he starts to believe in himself

Okay but like.. .... mickey hides (kiss me and I'll cut your tongue out) mickey shows himself (shows up at kash & grab for booty call) mickey hides (fucks angie) mickey shows himself (follows Ian punches Ned kisses ian) mickey hides (you're nothing but a warm mouth to me) mickey shows himself (goes to juvie instead of killing frank, gets out early on good behavior, tracks ian down asap) mickey hides (avoids Ian after The Couch) mickey shows himself (kisses Ian at the wedding and tells Ian after he doesn't want to end things) mickey hides (let's Ian leave) mickey shows himself (brings ian back) mickey hides (tries to keep ian away from yevs baptism) mickey shows himself (comes out in front of Literally Everyone)

This is such a good way to show how he grows as a person.

Also wanna put I think mickey shows himself when he keeps going to the kash and grab even after mandy calls her brothers off. "Yk where I live if you have a problem" I'm definitely of the opinion he a lil crush on Ian.

When mickey finds Ian after juvie the fast time he tells ians he misses him but then covers it up with something about him just liking being the bottom (hiding) but then when he breaks out he straight up tells Ian he misses him(showing himself) and I think that's a cute little parallel that kinda fits this. But also it's like he took this big step even going to find Ian when he comes out of juvie but that was too much for him so he had to find a way to make it less significant but he grows to not have that fear with Ian over the years. He's okay showing that he cares, and I love that.

Do you guys rememberrrrrrrr. When ian and mickey had only just started sleeping together and mickey was doing his disaffected thing. Well do you remember that this is the environment where ian having just experienced one of the most upsetting things of his young life showed up on mickey’s doorstep in tears saying I need to see you I didn’t know where else to go.
