A Bandaid of Love
Tumblr media
summary: theseus always shows up to y/n when he gets a cut, since she always has a bandaid. some say he's there for help but others know that it's not just because of that. word count: 2k warnings: mostly fluff and pining for each other, reader is kinda oblivious to the flirting, i imagine theseus to be like a flirty person when he really likes someone masterlist
"hey, y/n?"
"a bandaid? again? what did you do this tim-" y/n looked up from her parchment and got eye contact with the famous newt scamander
"oh! newt! sorry i thought it was theseus." she chuckled and watched how newt sat down in front of her.
newt slammed his head onto her desk and groaned, his fluffy hair laying down onto the table gently.
"what's wrong?" y/n asked the poor boy in front of her while leaning back in her cushioned seat.
"i have that meeting about my permit and i'm nervous. it hasn't gone well in a while." newt explained, looking up from his demise.
y/n only patted his shoulder, smiling empathetically while continuing on her work on her parchment.
"if you think more openly, it will go much better, i think. you just have to... listen maybe to what they want to say?" she tried to comfort newt who only looked at her with a sigh.
"theseus already said that, that i should be less me."
y/n smiled for herself and a door opened into her office, theseus scamander walking inside with his finger slightly in his mouth.
"sorry for interrupting, darling, but i cut myself again." theseus began, not noticing newt by the desk.
y/n didn't say anything and slid her drawer open, pulling out one of her pink bandaids and handing it to theseus who smiled at her softly at the sight of the baby pink bandaid.
"thank you." theseus thanked her and plastered it onto his bleeding finger while looking to the side, now noticing his brother.
"oh, hello, brother." he greeted newt with a smile, newt only exchanging a small smile to his older brother before leaning his chin on his hand, staring at y/n who continued on her work.
theseus patted newt on the shoulder and left the office with a smile on his face.
"you know, he's been getting cuts a lot lately." y/n spoke outloud, not really thinking about what she was actually saying and newt rolled his eyes.
"can't you see it?" newt said to y/n who put down her quill, eyebrows furrowed while she looked at newt who had an "are you fr?" expression.
newt only shook his head while standing up, leaving y/n confused while trying to continue her work.
what did newt mean by that?
another two hours went by with no disruptions and y/n finished her work, now reading a book about dangerous charms for smart wizards 101.
it was quiet, too quiet for y/n to even be able to focus on the book she was reading.
all of her thoughts were on the thing newt had said to her.
what did he mean by how she couldn't see it? see what? theseus only needed bandaids because he got hurt so much, what's special about that?
a knock on the door was heard and y/n called out for the person to step in and in stepped theseus with a small smile on his face.
"hi, theseus!" y/n greeted the man, sliding her bookmark between the pages before closing the book, putting her attention to theseus who leaned against the desk while watching her movements.
"need another bandaid?" she joked and theseus chuckled and shook his head, fiddling with a paperclip on the desk.
"no, just wanted to see what my favourite auror was doing." he said, his smile brightening as they start to converse, about anything really.
y/n looked at the clock and saw that her shift was over, lifting her feet off of her desk, making theseus stand straight.
"going somewhere tonight?" he asked, y/n shaking her head with a smile.
"probably just continue working on my book, maybe eat a good dinner, nothing too exciting." she answered while pulling her arms through the coat with a simple movement.
theseus saw this as an open door for him. time to actually get her on a date with him so that he could express his longing feelings for the girl in front of him.
they went to hogwarts together, the same house too and year. hufflepuff is a comfort for the both of them and the memories they have together are memorable for sure.
but it started for theseus in year three. y/n had just changed her hair and something with it just pulled theseus closer to her.
every lesson he sneaked glances at her, watching her write on her parchment, her small focused face while working on a potion while he accidentally dropped in too much gillyweed into his own cauldron.
a small explosion was beneath theseus and a cloud of ash exploded into his face, his hair sticking up by the sudden force of air.
the classroom began giggling while the professor walked up to him with a sigh, shaking his head while helping him clean up his desk by the flick of his wand.
a small chuckle was heard and theseus looked up from his failed potion, making eye contact with y/n who was hiding her chuckle behind her hand.
theseus felt a grin on his lips while his professor told him to just sit down and wait until the rest of the class finished, walking away to continue help other students.
theseus sat down in his stool, his head down and looking into his lap with a smile because even if he ruined his potion, he got a reaction from the girl of his dreams.
it was in the sixth year he finally got to be close to her. the yule ball.
they went together as friends. just friends.
but theseus loved every second of the night, his hands on her waist as they danced to the jazz from the live orchestra who were playing about some witch with bad teeth or something, theseus didn't care.
his eyes were on y/n's while they danced, her smile making the room brighter than it was before. it was a scene, for sure.
the night had continued until the head master had told everyone that it was now over, y/n and theseus walking out from the hall with massive grins on their faces.
"that was fun" y/n had mentioned while they walked up to their common room, theseus muttering the password to the fat lady who was woken up by the studenst returning.
"never knew you could dance like that, theseus." she continued with a snicker, theseus only rolling his eyes while smiling.
"you're just jealous, n/n." he had answered, now noticing how y/n's head was leaning against his shoulder.
y/n chuckled quietly as they stood in front of the two staircases that divided them for the night.
she turned to theseus, standing up onto her toes to leave a short kiss on his cheek before bidding him goodnight and leaving to go to bed.
theseus stood still with a small smile as he put his hand where y/n had kissed him. it was magical.
one of his friends wentby him with a laugh, punching him lightly in the shoulder as an encouragment as they walked up to their own dorm.
theseus slept well that night, a grin on his face.
but now they were older, adults in work.
"hey, n/n?" he asked y/n who was grabbing her bag. she looked up and nodded.
"since you're not doing anything special tonight how about we go eat dinner together? we can go to jessie's, we haven't been there in a long time." theseus suggested to y/n who felt a small smile creep onto her face.
"are you asking me onto a date, theseus scamander?" she asked with a smirk on her face as she walked closer to him, making his heart beat faster.
"maybe, is that wrong to do, darling?" theseus smugly said, looking down at the woman in front of him with a smirk.
"not at all."
theseus handed his elbow out with a chuckle, y/n only grinning and curtsying dramatically before taking his elbow, walking with him out from her office and out from the ministry, their bodies close as they walked around in london.
the pair arrived at jessie's, the calm jazzy mood inside comforting them both as they got sat down at a table, facing each other.
"i recognise this song." y/n said while opening the menu in front of her.
it was one of the songs that had been at the yule ball that night, it was one of y/n's favourites.
"it brings you back, doesn't it?" theseus asked while reading the menu, his eyes flicking up toward y/n who nodded.
"remember that clevens guy who vomitted all over professor burke?" y/n chuckled as she remembered the scene of the poor kid vomiting over the professor who wasn't entirely happy with him.
theseus chuckled with her before a waiter came and asked for their orders.
soon enough the waiter came back with the food and the pair began eating, keeping a small chatter between them.
the night softly came to a close and the pair walked out from the restaurant, theseus stuffing his hands into his coat pockets.
they walked on the streets, not ready to end the night between them.
while they walked, some shouting was heard and a group of men where walkign towards the pair on the streets.
theseus felt a signal through his spine and hurriedly slid his arm around y/n's waist, looking down at his feet as they walked past the men.
one of the men stared at y/n with an ugly grin, his teeth crooked in his mouth as he wiped his lips like a hungry dog, it was quite disgusting, y/n thought.
theseus hand held y/n's waist tightly, almost scared that one of the men would snatch her away and as they became alone again on the street, he didn't let go.
"theseus, you're pinching me a little." y/n giggled and looked up at theseus who's eyes darted down and he realised what he was doing and loosened his grip.
"sorry, didn't mean to." he muttered, looking back at the men who were walking into an alley.
"my flat is just right there, if you want to you can stay over the night at mine's?" y/n suggested, trying to hint that she would like him to stay as she played a little with her heel against the concrete.
theseus looked down with a grin, his eyebrows lifted in slight surprise.
"sure, darling, i'm guessing you need someone to warm your bed for you?" he joked, following with y/n to her flat.
right as they walked inside, an old woman's voice was hear.
"is that you y/n?" she called out.
y/n put a hand over theseus' mouth and sighed.
"yes, ms. burrow."
"is it just you?"
"always, ms. burrow."
theseus tilted his head like a confused puppy but y/n ignored him and walked up the stairs with theseus behind her.
she opened the door to her flat and walked inside but theseus stood there kinda nervously, not really knowing if he should be there or not.
"should i really or-?" his whisper got interrupted by y/n pulling in him by the tie into the flat while theseus closed the door with his foot.
"so excited of being with me, huh?" he smirked, looking down at y/n who rolled her eyes and pulled her low heels off of her feet, waddling into her room.
theseus pulled his coat and shoes off, following after her and getting greeted by y/n sitting on her bed criss-cross, fiddling with her watch.
"are the walls thin here?" theseus asked, standing in front of y/n and her bed while y/n shook her head.
"good." he muttered and crashed his lips onto hers, y/n's hands letting her watch go and putting her hands behind her, steadying herself into the kiss.
theseus slowly crawled over her, his body between her legs as they began making out.
theseus' hand played with y/n's stockings and slid up under her skirt, his fingers softly teasing the cotton underwear, a moan escaping y/n.
"oh let me hear you, let ms. burrow hear you, my darling." theseus muttered into y/n's ear and his hand continued beneath the cotton.

Some Unholy War | Theseus Scamander
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: In an ideal world, you’d like to think you and Theseus could be friends. Frankly, though, his compassion made you nauseous. Or maybe it was nerves. The feeling was always hard for you to distinguish. You wished the way he looked at you would bring warmth to your chest, but it only reminded you of how that was another impossibility.
PAIRING: Theseus Scamander x f!reader
WORD COUNT: 2.1K
WARNINGS: canon-typical things, mentions of smoking and drinking, angst, morally gray reader, mutual pining, semi enemies-to- lovers, protective Theseus, etc.
A/N: Lowkey proud of this one, so comments and feedback are Super welcomed! This was based off this request, so thank you SO much anon, this was a blast that might have to be a series. Also Huge thanks to @kalllistos for all the help, couldn’t have been done without you!! Enjoy.
PART II, PART III, PART IV
You fit in so absolutely.
The rim of your glass was still lined with enough sugar to enjoy dwindling sips. Theseus knew it was gin. Your lipstick left a mark on everything you kissed, the pattern was found on your glass, and the cigarette holder balanced between your fingers. You made everything look so serene. Simple.
Scanning the room, you hadn’t seen Theseus yet. However, he, too, fit in—tie properly knotted to show his status and pocket-watch cleverly tucked in his waistcoat. Once he joined you at the secluded booth, he’d complete the idyllic image.
Yet, Theseus lingered for a moment, taking you in. Your confidence was always envious. It worked silently, exuding from your presence alone. Your magnetism couldn’t be credited to magic but to how you evolved, becoming pointed and moving without fault.
Theseus was one of the only ones remaining to know it hadn’t begun that way. He remembered you, a few years below him, always sprinting to class, already late. The professors would scold you, and your confidence was read as insolence. You challenged everything and excelled in doing so, but it only lent itself to trouble. It created a barrier always present between the two of you.
“You’re late.” You sucked in a crackling breath. With pointed eyes, you took his presence in. Even late into the night, he was always so poised. Professional.  “I’m risking a lot showing my face here.”
“You look beautiful.” Theseus slid into the leather cushion. The charm always came with his supposed  professionalism. It came in waves and never crawled under your skin the way intended. “Relax…It’s fine.”
Unbuttoning his suit jacket’s button, Theseus settled. It was bold of you to accept his invitation to meet so publicly, but he knew you couldn’t resist. You just needed to play your part smartly and get what you want.
“Your promises are too shallow for me to trust.” You crossed your legs, making it easier to lean and be heard. Then, you clicked your tongue against your teeth with sarcasm, “I think I’d rather you arrest me.”
“Unfortunately, I’ve clocked out for the night.” Theseus was an intentional man, a clever man. He was protecting his image just as much as yours. “It’s just you and me.”
“That’s why you wanted to meet here…” You hummed with feigned realization. The muggle restaurant was a precarious cover but equally as rewarding in its purpose. “You know there are better ways to ask someone on a date.”
“I’ll keep that in mind for next time…” Theseus matched your hum absentmindedly. The banter was a buffer, something to ease into an inevitable unwanted conversation. Reaching into his heavily charmed jacket, he pulled out a file.
It was always a fucking file. The folders were always pristine, never quite full of all the information, just enough of what Theseus was willing to share. It grew over the years of the unorthodox relationship, but you knew not to mistake that for trust.
The figures in the picture were blurry, moving incoherently as they entered a building. The stack of images moved in sequence, following rushedly an exchange that was meant to remain a secret. Without seeing their faces well, you knew who they were, and you held back from using your cigarette roach to burn it all away. Instead, the image repeat over and over before you, but your expression was trained with passivity.
“When did he get out?” You finally met Theseus’ eye. Your composure could fool most, but to a trained eye, your discomfort was obvious.
“A month or so at this point...”
Your laugh was bitter. “So, I’ve been a sitting duck.”
“You’ve been avoiding me...” Theseus countered, his tone just barely teasing. There was truth in jest, as there were plenty of owls following you. You looked at him, knowing what came next. His compassion would get him killed. “...I can help you.”
“Careful.” You cocked your head, musing a buried thought. “You’re getting awful sentimental these days.”
“Don’t you want those off?” Theseus leaned in like you had, voice low. Although his fingers were threaded together, he pointed to the bracelets on your wrists.
You smirked, “And ruin my outfit?”
Rarely did you acknowledge them so explicitly. The bracelets—admonitors—dampened your magic by tracking your every spell. They made you feel like a child with a trace spell. Part of you wished you could say you grew accustomed to the constant surveillance, but you grew weary of lying.
The offer was too sweet, and you wanted more than just your magic untraced. “What’s the catch?”
“You help the Ministry find him.” Theseus was trying to protect you, but you were too filled with vindication to notice.
“You mean work for you.”
He frowned, correcting you, “With me.”
“There truly isn’t a difference in your world.” You spat. The ministry was the reason you were in this mess; they branded your cuffs as a daily reminder that your autonomy was shared. “You’d be using me as bait.”
The conversation would go in circles, as it always had. It was the reason more time was added between meetings. Every time you left, that bitter taste grew stronger, and it was difficult to put it aside to face Theseus again and again. This was different—more threatening, but your anger prevailed.
“I won’t do it.”
“Catching him will clear your name.” Theseus all but begged. He remained poised, but you knew it would only last for so long. Those around you looked your way; interest piqued in conversation they weren’t privy to.
“I’m not innocent.” You were blunt. You had been called cold because of it. But it was a trait that you favored, especially at times like this. You wanted to see Theseus break.
You had done unspeakable things, figuring it was an acceptable way to siphon your affection. You were young and blinded by false idolization. Theseus chose to see the best in you, even now, even after everything. He, too, was blinded by an image of you that hadn’t changed since you were children.
The table held your drink, forgotten and diluted. The air was tense and hushed. Theseus needed to move fast, knowing you were moments away from fleeing. But he knew he had just enough time as you lit another cigarette, this time not for vanity but to quell your nerves.
Your nails tapped on the base of your cocktail glass. Your fingertips twitched, begging to satisfy their itch for magic. You debated on if your actions would be worth it.  Theseus decided for you, hand flexing to replenish your drink.
Your lipstick remained fresh but still marked the glass. It was perfectly cold, calming the swarm of nerves that hit you. “It’s a bit strong.”
“Nothing you can’t handle, I’m sure.” Theseus appreciated your teasing; it meant he was doing something right.
“This place is quite charming, you know,” You looked around before shifting forward even more. It may have been improper, but you leaned over the table, elbows resting comfortably. “Next time, we’ll have to venture and order food.”
“Sure.” Theseus agreed, body language mirroring yours. To anyone else, the pair of you would look smitten. “Anytime you’d like.”
“Anytime?” Your eyebrow ticked up as you tapped at the ashtray.  “Come on, I’m surprised you’ve stuck around as long as you have.” Your knuckles crept forward, almost bumping his as they dragged to the middle of the linen cloth atop the table. “Truly—We haven’t—”
You stopped yourself with an uncharacteristic laugh. A tinge spread below Theseus’ freckles, assuming your humor was chastising him. But you were laughing at yourself, at how ridiculous you felt. You were enjoying yourself.
The feeling felt foreign, so you prickled. “Be practical, Theseus.”
Your worlds barely overlapped, and where it had highlighted the worst parts of each of you. Your world was dark and hidden; you stole and bribed. You were suitable for it and resisted morphing into the image Theseus expected of you.
He was as kind as any Hufflepuff, putting other needs first and blindly placing his kindness. He mistook his demeanor for bravery, but his true bravery formed by sitting across from you. The only barrier seemed to be Theseus’ incorruptible moral code, a space where you couldn’t quite freely exist.
“I need to know the full story.” His voice was commanding, betraying his desperation.
Theseus looked warm, contrasting the winter blizzarding outside. A bubble was created that was becoming suffocating, but with him across you, it seemed just marginally bearable. His hand flexed, skimming yours, hoping to regain your attention.
“You already know how it ends. What does the rest matter?” You thought to sink back, but you chased the small contact. “I want nothing to do with this. With him.”
“I’ll be there the entire time,” Theseus promised, voice low and steady, reflecting his sincerity. You could make out the warmth he was willing to share, but you weren’t willing to accept it wholly.
“And my interests?”
Theseus’ expression fell slightly at your evasive rejection. It reminded him of his position, of his strained relation to you—what he was supposed to do but always found a reason to put off.
“It depends on where they lie.”
In an ideal world, you’d like to think you and Theseus could be friends. Frankly, though, his compassion made you nauseous. Or maybe it was nerves. The feeling was always hard for you to distinguish. You wished the way he looked at you would bring warmth to your chest, but it only reminded you of how that was another impossibility.
You wished his gaze would turn you to stone; that way, you could avoid everything else. Instead, it made you melt, it made you pliable in way you opposed with others. There was a suspicion he kept returning just because of that—despite your bluff and his willful ignorance, you weren’t made of stone, and deep down, he knew that. Probably not consciously, but he did.
You always came back. Or he did—another indistinguishable something. You could still feel his fingers reaching for yours. It almost made you cave. Yet, your back met the bench of the booth, and your hand drew away as you placed your cigarette on your lips.
Although you were still present, Theseus watched you flee. Your guard returned stronger, but he didn’t regret his words. Theseus’ eyes were pleading, and you went to blame his naivety, but you found something distinct there. The reason you were here tonight was not for a favor.
It was an ultimatum, not a request.
“When was this decided?” You asked. You thought Theseus came alone, and now the naivety fell on you. There were too many eyes on you now to dismiss the crowd as solely muggles.  You fell so perfectly into the trap that all you could do was laugh.
“I wanted to keep you out of this,” Theseus admitted. It was the truth, but he knew what needed to be done. The greater good, you could already hear his defense. “This is the only way.”
“Your way.” You shook your head. Another laugh. “And what happens when he kills me? Hmm?”
“He won’t.” Another promise that made you sick. “I’ll be there the whole ti—
“Then you, Theseus—” Venom dripped from your every pointed word. From the corner of your eye, you saw how the undercover aurors were ready to respond to your agitation. If they wanted a spectacle, you were moments from providing it. “— are ill-prepared for what he’s willing to do.”
“You need to trust me.” Theseus attempted to regain the conversation but failed to recognize any mending he made was lost.
“And why should I trust the man that watches my every move?”
Theseus put you in this position; he was the wizard who held your wrist tightly all those years ago to secure the admonitors. For your own good, he told you. He believed it, and yet again, you found yourself at the hands of his so-called mercy.
“And if I decline?” You weren’t in such a position to, but Theseus understood your question only brought ruination.
“The only way you're walking out of here is because of me.”
A threat, how original.  Your cigarette threatened to burn your lips. The ash tarnished the linen that fell over your lap. Apart of you hoped it would set the entire thing aflame. Maybe then you’d have a chance at a genuine escape. For now, though, you resolved to the final word.
“You think you are blessed with morality—” You finished your drink, the taste becoming sour. “—yet what sits before me is nothing but a boy that’s only purpose is to follow orders blindly.”

Fury of Achilles
by Charles-Antoine Copel
...and in a flash Poseidon and Athena went to him and stood beside him, assuming the forms of men. Taking his hand in their hands, they assured him with their words; and Poseidon who shakes the earth was first of them to speak: “Son of Peleus, do not shrink back, nor be alarmed; such allies are we two gods who stand by you with Zeus approving, I and Pallas Athena. Since you are not destined to be killed by a river, he will soon give way—you yourself will see this. But we have close advice for you, if you will heed it; do not rest your hands from war that levels all alike, until you have penned within Ilion’s famed walls the Trojan men, those who should escape you. And after you have stripped the life from Hector, return to your ships; we grant you to win glory.”

Mrs. Scamander - Theseus x Reader
A/N: I think this just topped "I Do" as my favorite fic I've ever written. I took creative liberty with Theseus' mum, which I think added a bit of humor <3
Word Count: 1,556
Warnings: Fluff (?), overbearing mothers
Tumblr media
"Does everyone know why we're gathered here today?" Mrs. Scamander asked, her ankles crossing over one another as she nursed a cup of tea in the palm of her hand, bringing it to her lips.
Theseus nodded, running a hand through his dark brown hair, "Because Newt-"
"No, not because of Newt. It's about you." She said with a sigh, watching as her oldest son's brows creased.
"What in the bloody hell have I done?" He asked, shock spread across his face.
"Watch your mouth, Theseus." She warned, "Theseus, it's come to my attention that since becoming Head Auror, something I'm very proud of you for, that you've been… lacking in other areas."
He groaned, "Mum, please…"
Newt stirred beside his brother, trying to keep Teddy from rumaging in between the couch cussions looking for spare change. Once he wrangled the niffler into the crook of his arm, awkwardly smiling up at his mother.
She cleared her throat, "Theseus, if you look around this room, you'll find that you're surrounded by the people who care about you most."
He surveyed the room and took in the cold hearted truth of it: He really only let three people close to him, and even then, "close" was an iffy term.
Before him, his mother sat in her quilted settee, a look of worry on her face as she looked her son up and down. There were bags under his eyes, his hair was disheveled, and his tie was loosened around his neck. Theseus had barely slept the night before, or any night this past month, really.
To his right, Newt sat holding Teddy, more preoccupied with wrangling the niffler than trying to help with his brother's intervension. And to his left, you were perched on the arm of the couch, the tea in your hands untouched. If it had been anyone else, he would have questioned why they were a part of a family matter. But you had practically grown up with he and Newt, so it went without questioning.
"Mum, it's a big responsibility. I'm tired, that's all." Theseus said, giving her a weak smile.
"Being "just tired" may work when you don't get a lot of sleep at night, but you're far beyond that point," Mrs. Scamander shook her head, "Is it true that you've been falling asleep in the office?"
His eyes widened, "How'd you find out about that one? Who told you?"
The room went silent, his mother sipped her tea, and all eyes fell on you.
"Y/N!" Theseus exclaimed, "It was one time!"
"One time this week, Thes. And it's only Monday. Last week it was eight. Trust me, I counted." You frowned, setting your teacup on the sidetable, "I only told her because I care about her. And I know you wouldn't listen to me if I told you to get some more rest."
He huffed, crossing her arms, refusing to look in her direction.
"Theseus, stop acting like a child. We all know it's true." His mother sighed, waving her wand to refill her tea.
"And I suppose Newt told you something, too? How I've been adding more and more sugar to my tea to keep myself awake?"
He regretted saying it as soon as the words left his mouth.
"You've what? Theseus, that's not at all good for your health and you know it!" Mrs. Scamander scolded, "No, Newt told me about the incident at Hogwarts. You were left in, for lack of better words, a prison… hanging upside down? Is that correct?"
"Newt got me out of there just fine, mum." Theseus grumbled, slumping back into the couch. He flinched when he felt something move behind his back, watching as you slid your hand out of the way. He had almost forgotten that you had been rubbing small circles in his back for the past fifteen minutes in an effort to be supportive.
"Watch your tone, Theseus." His mother warned, "Look, I know things have been difficult, especially this past few years. With your promotion, losing Leta, getting back on the right track with your brother… But it's time to make better decisions, starting with your lack of sleep."
Theseus shook his head, "Mum, I'm a grown man. I'm perfectly capable of making my own decisions."
She raised a brow and he immediately appologized, accepting his defeat, "I'll get more sleep."
"Continue."
"I promise." He finished.
"Now that that's out of the way, it's about time you settled down!" Mrs. Scamander explained, "I'm not getting any younger, Theseus, I'm in desperate need of a grandchild! Why, just across the street, the Wollenstones are expecting not one, but two grandchildren this spring! Come on, Theseus!"
"Why are you only asking me for grandchildren? Newt's here, too!" Theseus argued, but one look at Newt and he remembered why he hadn't settled down yet.
Mrs. Scamander rolled her eyes, "Newt already has someone on his mind, Theseus. The point is, you don't."
"And how do you know that?"
"Because I know my son."
Her words stung, but they were true. Between trying to rein his brother in and catch up to Grindlewald, he hadn't had much time to think about settling down with someone.
"I think it's best if I go. I have a lot of wo- resting- I need to do." Theseus swallowed the bile that rose in his throat, rising from his spot on the sofa.
"Aren't you going to stay for dinner? I made your favorite for dessert. Treacle Tarts." She frowned, waving her hand through the air to mimic the shape of the tart.
But Theseus continued walking, calling out that "that's Newt's favorite" over his shoulder.
Mrs. Scamander was about to follow after him, but you held out a hand, "Let me go, see if I can diffuse the tension."
She nodded briskly and you scurried after him, trying to catch him before he left.
You turned a corner into the hallway and another into the narrow foyer, dozens of photos of the boys hung on the wall, sprinkled in with at least a half dozen of you.
When you caught up to him, he was struggling to get his coat off the hangar, too frustrated to even think.
You approached him slowly, trying not to startle him. Placing a hand gently on his shoulder, you reached for the hangar with your other, "Let me help you."
He didn't fight you on it, his tight grip on the hangar loosening so you could grab it, his whole palm red from grasping it too hard.
Slipping the coat off, you set put the hangar back in the closet before helping him slip into the navy blue coat. Once it was over his shoulders, he turned back to you, a gentle smile on his face, "You were always too good to me."
He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you in for a tight hug, and you grinned, "Always were a hugger, weren't you?"
Theseus stiffled a laugh, "Would you have it any other way?"
"No, I suppose I wouldn't."
You untangled yourself from him and he sighed, "I'll see you later, Y/N."
"Goodbye, Theseus." You smiled, and before he knew what he was doing, he pressed a soft kiss to your lips.
He then turned to walk out the door, not giving one thought about what he had just done. Then it hit him: he had kissed you. And, surprisingly, you had kissed him back.
Before the door could shut, Theseus turned and opened it back again. You stood in the exact spot you had been standing in when he had left, but your fingertips were now touching your face, a large smile spread across your lips.
Theseus couldn't help but smile back, taking long strides towards you as he tangled one hand in your hair, the other settling on your waist as he leaned in for another kiss.
Your hands found his shoulder and his chest as you fell into the embrace, lips moving against his.
Chances are, the two of you would have stayed like that for hours if it hadn't been for the clatter of a teacup on the floor.
Your heads whipped around to see Mrs. Scamander standing in the middle of the foyer, her eyes wide, tea seeping through the marble floors. She began jumping up and down, "Good Godric, it happened! Newt, it happened!"
Within seconds, she was bursting through the front door, bounding across the street to the Wollenstones, "Agatha, you won't believe it, I'm going to be a grandmother! Agatha!"
You and Theseus couldn't help but laugh, and you leaned your head into his chest, watching as his mother told the whole street about what she had witnessed, "I can't say I'm surprised."
"That my mother is sharing our moment with the whole neighborhood? Me neither."
"That's Mrs. Scamander for you." You giggled, your hand entwined with his.
"Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Mrs. Scamander." Theseus teased.
"Watch it, Theseus." You responded, raising a brow, "But for the record, I prefer gold bands over silver."
Back in the tea room, you could hear Newt call out, "That's what Teddy prefers, too, so I'd be careful if I were you!"
The two of you laughed, releasing the breath you had been holding for far too long.

with all the rain, it was the perfect time for a bakery to appear on the way back to the hotel you’d been staying at. you made your way inside the small well lit shop, buying some small baked goods to bring to your shared hotel room. the paper bag was stuffed the into the deep inner pockets of your coat. hopefully it should keep you and the treats warm as you find the way back. you began to roam the city streets in the direction of which you came from, not finding anything particularly intriguing on the way. well that was until your eyes watched a thing dart full speed at you. its sopping furry body latched onto the silver button that dawned your coat. in attempt to snatch the them but instead it slowly lost grip slowly slipping into the pocket with the shiny change in your pocket. only in american currency from the last time you had wore it.
your thoughts quickly shifted from the platypus thing to the fast steps paired with light splashes from around the corner that began to move towards you. your eyes trail upwards from the coat pocket to a man in a black or what probably was once gray drenched trench coat. his pants were black, the top half seemingly drier than the ends. his hair was flush against his face, using his non-case holding hand to move it out of his face. he was looking at you, or rather behind you. most likely for any signs of the brown-coated creature that just scampered into your pocket. light panting reaches your ears as he comes closer, stopping in front of you. he takes a moment to catch his breath, eyes frantically looking behind you.
“ uh, hello. have you seen uh… uh platypus! yes that's it. “ he stumbled over his words, avoiding eye contact with his head ducked down. he would occasionally glance up to confirm you were indeed listening to him. if he had looked long enough at your face, he’d see the quizzical look expressed on your face. the two stood in silence for what felt like a minute or two as your mouth would open and close trying to come up with a response.
“ sir…? i don’t believe there are any wild platypuses in England. if there were they wouldn’t be this far inland. “ you explained a look of confusion clear on your face also in your voice as you spoke. “ are you a- “
“ wizard? yes, i am in fact, “ he interrupted in a matter-of-fact tone. his eyes still avoided yours, as he looked down noticing movement in your pocket. a shocked expression washed over your face. if he had looked up, he would have noticed your brows raised high and mouth agape at the information you had just received. in your world, magic didn’t exist. science instead explained all those unexplainable things. even if it hadn’t been explained yet.
“ i- i was gonna say an idiot, but yeah… yeah, that works too. “ you attempted to keep your voice as normal as possible. his freckled face had been brushed with a light pink color. he was slightly embarrassed by his assumption. you two stood silent, neither wanting to say anything to the other. at this point, your pants were getting more soaked as the rain grew harder. so, with your free hand, you took out the little ‘platypus’ and inspected it before handing it to the self proclaimed ‘wizard’. he took it with no attempt to look up to your face. he checked the creature for any injuries before he began to lightly scold it.
“ well… “ you scooted yourself past him, an awkward smile displayed on your own face. you slightly pat your pocket hearing the paper bag. “ i have some warm baked goods in my pocket that are screaming at me to eat them. “
“ o-kay “ he mumbles, not looking up. although it wasn’t a smart decision to out himself as a wizard. luckily they weren’t probably a wizard… right? he snaps out of his trance because of the niffler who is wiggling in his hand. he continues scolding the creature as he moves to a dry spot where he could open the case and put the reckless niffler in.
the animal squeaked as they dropped into the shack. it scurried to its growing collection of shinies. he closed the case and looked up to see something reflecting the lights of the shops. he assumed it was most likely one of the shiny things the niffler. his eyes followed the rolling coin until it fell flat. he stepped closer to the item, picking it up with his index and thumb. he had a closer inspection identifying it as US nickel. maybe he’d go to the US one day.

Some Unholy War | Theseus Scamander (IV)
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Theseus was always talented in thinking clearly. Logically. He wanted you to be wrong, but your instincts pushed you to keep moving. It was the only way to stay one step ahead of Sinclair. It contrasted Theseus’ plan to stay put within the walls of the Ministry. You contrasted his very being.
PAIRING: Theseus Scamander x f!reader
WORD COUNT: 1.1K
WARNINGS: canon-typical things, flashback of sorts, mutual pining, semi enemies-to- lovers, always a protective Theseus, SLOW burn, etc.
A/N: HELLO. Again, this took me longer than I would have liked. So, rather than rushing it, I’m going to break it up into two parts...I’m going to take a lil break to get my head together, but I’m v excited in how this second part is going to go!!! So, stay tuned...As always, thank you, @kalllistos. Comments are always welcomed. Enjoy.
PART I, PART II, PART III
Effort was a comical notion.
Magic required it at times, just as breathing did. The effort now felt good, worth it. The icy air that reached the ends of your lungs stung. Yet, each breath was quieter, the effort only coming in the form of physical mechanics of pushing a warm breath back out that the air around you marked.
“Are you mad?” Theseus’ exclamation hadn’t taken any exertion. The pent-up anger almost made you flinch. Theseus yelled after you as you continued forward. He never begged you to stop; he told you. Sometimes you’d listen just to display your wit.
You were quiet, entering the idyllic fog, hoping it would swallow you whole.
“Keep up….” Your voice was airy, the instruction more for yourself. The memory was faded, your mind trying to hold onto it as it threatened to slip between your fingers.
It started in Theseus’ office—a muddled memory overlapping with the friction of everything around you. It was more a feeling, something foggy and unrestrained that called you forward. It felt a bit like apparating, where your body didn’t quite belong for the moments it took to find your footing again.
You scolded yourself for not seeing it clearly; that was the thing about divination.
Although studied meticulously, its real trait was its vitality.  It shifted and molded. Evolved.  It made even more concrete things seem like rubber, rejecting electricity with an uncanny ability to mold into shapes unknown. It was the type of thing that could be so exciting to happen just to become something so vague that it no longer held value to it.
Theseus’ words were drowned out as your ears produced a ringing. All you could hear was your shaky breaths, and all you could see was a faint familiarity with your surroundings. Even your stumbling steps backward felt practiced.
Your breath became labored as the hazy recollection returned. Even through the blur, you saw how the tips of his ears and nose burned red with frustration. It was a trait of his that remained as he rose so many inches he towered over you, and his hair curled the longer her let it grow.
The years did nothing to change it.
“This is it….” Your fingers fumbled with a curl at the nape of his neck. His hair was long, longer than he usually kept it. Time had gotten the better of him. How could you be so blind?
Theseus’ tirade wavered. He was supposed to be angry. He was supposed to do so many things, but your touch felt like an enchantment. It reminded him of how dangerous you could be.
The walnut of Theseus’ wand was always stiff, but it cast its spells briskly and powerfully. Ollivander told him it wasn’t rare to be drawn to the material, but it scarcely paired with dragon heartstring. Because of the extreme dominance of this wood, the core was stoic and gentle and had done Theseus well from the moment he received it. Yet, pressed against your chest to stall your next step, it felt that even the wand knew it was a misguided action.
“Don’t be foolish, Theseus.” You spat at the gesture. His wand only pressed into your chest as if trying to will away his emotions. “Don’t you recognize where we are?”
He shook his head. If he looked beside him, he knew he would crumble.
You tried to reason, “We couldn’t stay there. The Ministry—
“We’re going back.” Although his voice was steady, emotion wavered in his eyes. “I won’t fall into your trap. You can’t just—
“It’s too late.” You pushed forward, the wood digging into your clavicle with drive. “I’m ruined anyways.” The invariability of the words reflected your decision.  “By your hand or his.”
Theseus was always talented in thinking clearly. Logically. He wanted you to be wrong, but your instincts pushed you to keep moving. It was the only way to stay one step ahead of Sinclair. It contrasted Theseus’ plan to stay within the Ministry's walls.
You contrasted his very being.
“Why did you bring me here?” Anger drifted from Theseus’ voice, and the space it abandoned was soon tenanted by something else—a kind of endearment, muslin light.
Theseus first brought you there for a quiet you didn’t know you needed. It was ambient full of croaking creatures and twigs snapping from the pressure of unknown forces. It was a blissful oasis that lured you into its dark depths.
The environment was damp, still reflecting the country’s dreariness. It was hidden, though. A broken-off path Theseus—well, Newt—had stumbled upon in childhood. It was a good hiding place to play, to sneak, and for you to abuse.
“I didn’t see it coming.” It felt strange to admit your best-hidden secret. “Any of it.” Your eyes remained on Theseus, willing trust to transfer. “But I just couldn’t—I knew deep down, I couldn’t lose everything.”
One time, you came to read Theseus’ palm under the full moon—a silly excuse to feel the weight of his hand in yours. The times following grew, the touches still shy with adolescence but bolder in a discovery of emotion.
The memory was a shared favorite, an inside joke of sorts to make the other feel warmth in your fingers that spread to the center of your chest. You hadn’t meant to bastardize it, but its safety was all you could rely on.
“But this, I saw this.” You would continue until Theseus understood. You had told him of your vision all those years ago. It was your only justifiable proof. “This needs to happen.”
Recognition flashed across his features.
Theseus dropped his wand with a tight breath. Looking to the sky, he became lost in turmoil. Once his gaze hit the dirt beneath his feet, it did nothing to aid him. You watched his fingers pull through the hair at the back of his head as if unraveling an answer.
You spoke when his hand fit over his mouth in frustration. “You promised me.”
“We were teenagers.” He snapped, denying the truth. “What did I know about prophecies?”
“Enough to believe me.” You felt young again, begging Theseus to revert with you. You wanted to hear his reassurances, his bold-faced vows to remain by your side despite the trouble you found.
That holiday, you told him everything—your plans to run away, the images that flashed in your dreams of the future, and how he centered them all as an essential turning point.  It spilled out of you, and you couldn’t stop. At the time, the swampy place was at the core unbeknownst.
If Theseus had known, he may not have regretted the promise to always be there for you. No questions asked. It sounded embarrassingly naive. You could still hear how desperately he wanted you to believe him. Even then, you knew it would lead to something like this.
Even then, just as now, you diminished how well Theseus knew you. “What aren’t you telling me?”
