Oh boy, here we go! To say that Disney's and Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame" is highly anticipated is a huge disservice to the power the studios hold over their audiences.
Since the conclusion of last year's "Avengers: Infinity War", fans have been clamoring for the answers to all the questions that film raised. On April 26th, 2019, we were rewarded for our patience. The original six members, consisting of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye debuted as a team in 2012's "Avengers". Their adventures as a team continued in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and last years chapter "Avengers: Infinity War", which leads directly into "Endgame".
However, this is not only the fourth Avengers film, but it also serves as the conclusion to an arc dating back to 2008 with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's(MCU) very first picture "Iron Man" and developing through 21 more features, culminating in the epic showdown with, who many call the greatest villain in film history, Thanos.
Beginning with 2014's sequel "Captain America: Winter Soldier", Marvel welcomed two bright and talented filmmakers among their ranks. They are a dynamic duo of directors, brothers Anthony and Joe Russo. With this second entry into Cap's standalone trilogy, the Russos brought a fresh, new style to the MCU, prioritizing action and character development.
In fact, Kevin Feige, producer off all films within this shared universe, must have been strongly impressed by the brothers' interpretations of the characters, as they were hired back to close out the Captain America films with 2016's "Captain America: Civil War", as well as assume the mantle of director of the Avengers films from Joss Whedon. With these unequivocally successful films under their shared belt, the team has become the directors to beat in Hollywood.
Not too many filmmakers are capable of doing what the Russos have done, aligning the plots from 21 previous films in order to tell a satisfying and compelling final chapter in the Infinity Saga of films. To say that the keeping of egos of so many illustrious stars in check is amazing would be an understatement and a detriment to the real miracle the brothers have accomplished.
Each actor gives their all, regardless of how much screen time they actually take up. This gain is due to everyone involved being made aware that it takes a team effort to win big in the movie business. The scene that best encapsulates the tour de force efficiency of the Russos is the entirety of the final act in "Endgame".
LITE SPOILERS AHEAD! The finale of the film is the battle between Thanos' army versus the sum of all the heroes the MCU has to offer, including the tribes of Wakanda from "Black Panther" and the sorcerers from "Dr. Strange", as well as several others.
Within the last hour of the film, it is pure, non-stop, fan-pleasing cinematic magic that is guaranteed to wake up the inner child of any comic book nerd in the seats of the theater. Fortunately, the targeted audience isn't exclusively made up of die-hard-fan-boys, as any attendee with a taste for action, comedy, and/or an epic level of storytelling will leave the cinema extremely pleased with the previous three hours of their lives.
If Anthony and Joe Russo make up the brains behind the triumph that is "Endgame", then the actors are responsible for the heart and soul that carry the burden of post-"Infinity War" expectations.
Also, as aforementioned, this is the 22nd film in a franchise that is still young at only eleven years old. By comparison, it has taken the James Bond franchise over 50 years to accomplish the same thing. Franchise fatigue is a very real concept (see Star Wars franchise and "Solo"), but Marvel has mostly avoided it, due in no small part to the consistently intriguing performances the actors turn in.
For example, this is the tenth time we've seen Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal of Tony Stark AKA Iron Man, yet it is arguably the best work he has offered up as the character. Same can be said for all of the returning characters, as each one continues to bring their A-game.
Chris Evans also returns in prime condition, both physically and methodically in his acting, to again silence whatever remaining detractors he may have. Since his first portrayal as the character in 2011, Evans has seen Steve Rogers go on a roller coaster ride with his emotional baggage, being a fish out of water when he awoke from his icy tomb to a future he spent a great deal of time adjusting to. Plot points that began in that first movie are resolved in "Endgame".
The reason these storylines transfer so well from film to film is based largely on the audiences' willingness to keep coming back to watch their favorite actor playing their favorite superhero.
Even more surprising than getting quality work from the established leaders such as Downey Jr., Evans, and the increasingly hilarious Chris Hemsworth as Thor is watching the supporting cast finally receive their time to shine. Notable are Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha AKA Black Widow, both of whom belong to the original Avengers team. They are given more depth with this script than they have had in any of their previous appearances, carrying the dramatic heft for quite a few important scenes.
On the flip-side, talents such as Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, and Bradley Cooper (returning as Rocket Racoon's voice) deliver the comedic goods in every scene they participate in. Overall, each character only gets a small set amount of screen time, but none of the actors waste their precious moments, making each individual performance unique and memorable.
However, actors can only carry a blockbuster like this so far. As mentioned above, it takes a team effort to succeed, and everyone must be operating at a peak proficiency. A few more notable contributors to "Endgame" includes cinematographer Trent Opaloch, who effortlessly paints a universe of epic proportions with his camera. He clearly has an eye for huge scale, as he and the production design team add interesting characteristics to every planet, dimension, and/or time period this film takes its viewers.
Along with the Russos, writers Markus and McFeely obviously have an understanding of the MCU and all of its intricacies. Not only are they responsible for tying up all of the loose ends from the prior decade of world-building and story-telling, but they also keep the time travel plot fresh and fun, which is hard to accomplish when audiences have seen it done so well, so often before.
Yet, the biggest unsung heroes of "Endgame" and "Infinity War" is the post production staff. From the editors to the special effects artists, this film's success is predicated on how well it is all wrapped up and delivered to theaters. The seams are virtually invisible between practical and computer generated effects, blending the action so naturally. Combining the two films together, there is 5 1/2 hours worth of story, but never once does it cease to entertain.
The films constantly thrill with action, but knows when to quiet down and let the audience think about what they are ingesting through their eyes. Also through their ears, as Alan Silvestri returns to knock another original soundtrack out of the park, inspiring children and children-at-heart to look up, believe, and always have hope... that heroes exist.
In short, it is said that a part of the journey is the end. In the case of Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame", not only is the end a part of the journey, but it the largest single moment in all of film, for as I write this conclusion statement, it has already become the highest grossing film of all time. That is a testament to Disney, Marvel, the Russos, Kevin Feige, and all the actors involved.
More so than anyone else however, it is a testament to Stan "The Man" Lee, who made is final cameo appearance in "Endgame". For over 60 years, we were entertained by the words he spoke, worlds he built and the stories he crafted. May he rest in peace. Thank you so much for keeping us all young in our minds and hearts. Stan Lee lives on through you, me, and millions of others who have gone to watch "Endgame". Excelsior! 'Nuff said.

Seven Days of Films: Marvel Edition Vol. 7
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Tumblr media
Just when his time under house arrest is about to end, Scott Lang once again puts his freedom at risk to help Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym dive into the quantum realm and try to accomplish, against time and any chance of success, a very dangerous rescue mission.
The Ant-Man movies are really shaking up to be some of my favourites. The comedy is miles better than the rest of the MCU and the hiest genre plays into this so well.

Captain Marvel
Tumblr media
The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
It’s not shocking that the fist female-led movie in the MCU received so much hate; but it is infuriating that it happened at all. As much as some would like to believe, this movie is pretty good. The soundtrack is stacked and the movie as a whole is pretty entertaining; more so than other more popular Marvel movies.

Avengers: Endgame
Tumblr media
After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos' actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.
I’ll start off by saying that this is eons better than Infinity War. Though it does drag in the lead up to the actual time travel, it doesn’t affect the overall experience.

The Macallan, Gold, Double Cask, (No Age Stated), 40%
In my line of work, it’s not uncommon for people to ask which Bible story is my favorite. It’s also not unusual for me to avoid giving an honest answer to the question. In other words, I share favorite accounts, but I don’t necessarily say what I like about them. For instance, I might say that I like the accounts in which all hope seems lost, but victory is suddenly had. The story of the…

Everything to Know About Avengers: Endgame Cast and Synopsis
Everything to Know About Avengers: Endgame Cast and Synopsis
Everything you need to know about Avengers: Endgame and Cast The Marvel Cinematic Universe is extensive, to say the least, and there is a lot of ground to cover in Avengers: Endgame. Most MCU fans will tell any average viewer to watch all prior films before the final installment in order to comprehend all of the context, but understandably so, that is a lot of time and preparation, and some are…

Personal review regarding what if…? season 2 episode 8 (spoilers)
No ok, I must admit, the episode was good in some aspects.
Wanda was majestic. Loki and Scott were hilarious and I loved every single moment with them.
Thor was amazing, dark and serious out of loss but still enjoyable, and the crumbs of his relationship with Hela were very nice.
I’ve actually liked Tony for the very first time in my life, probably because I tend to like him a lot more in AUs and fanfictions than I do in the normal timeline.
And then… there were those two.
I will never comprehend why marvel wants Steve to be so dependent on Peggy. And I will never comprehend why, to make him interact with her, they have to destroy or sideline every other relationship he has built, or make his character flat.
Bucky being friends with Scott was amazing, but the fact that him and Steve interacted like two times was extremely disappointing. You’d expect “best friends in every universe”, if you dislike the romantic pairing so much, to acknowledge themselves for more than a few scenes, in only one of which they’re in frame together (Bucky was literally 😐 while his best friend disappeared, come on now).
And the storyline about Peggy coming from another world to save the universe was just… Mbah. It could’ve been executed in another way without including her and it still would have made sense. It really feels like a Y/N insert.
Seeing literally any other character was so good, so fun, and they had to ruin it this way, making Peggy once again the self insert and girlboss she didn’t need to be.
Plus, forgive my constant complaining, but it’s extremely infuriating how all of Steve’s friends were eliminated to put the focus solely on Peggy. Where’s Sam? Where’s Nat? Where’s Clint? It’s not an underrated friendship we’re talking about, a big chunk of the fandom loves the cap quartet or team cap, and after civil war it would have been nice to see them interact, especially after its popularity and popular demand. Outlaw team cap would have been glorious, a good chance to bring back many characters who aren’t here anymore in the right way, and involve characters that are rarely involved in What if in the storyline, for a change.
The treatment of Sam in this series particularly angers me, and even more so in this episode. I understand not involving him in other storylines, but Sam was a big part of CATWS and he wasn’t even in the episode centered on that film. What, because Steve met him while running he can’t be introduced in any other way? And oh, there’s no excuse for this episode. If there was one episode they could have placed Sam in, it was this one. Sam was there in infinity war, where the mess happened, and he should have been with the other avengers in this one.
If marvel wanted to involve someone from another universe so bad, it should have been a Captain America Sam from another universe. Can you imagine the poetry of seeing Steve and Nat again after endgame? Can you imagine having closure with them both, and having fun in the process? It would have been so great.
Another great storyline without involving characters from other universes would have been one where Steve, who touched the time stone, accidentally brought everyone in the past, and he was the only one to remember it. And to go back and prevent everyone’s distraction, he had to recruit the avengers, who don’t know him and don’t trust him but that in the end become his friends and companions. It would have been so interesting to see the original avengers involved in something different from being some side characters or extras in the one woman show that seems to be What if, constantly centered around the same bland, one dimensional reimagined side character. Peggy’s blandness is so obvious in these episodes (aside for some random remarks that made me smile) that literally everyone who’s involved directly with her must be bland like her, otherwise risking to overshadow her.
I don’t think I was supposed to cringe and look away as much as I did during Steggy’s forced scenes, but I did. If they had to force Steggy and Peggy down our throats, at least they could have done something different from the same bland and boring storyline as always. I wouldn’t be as mad as I am now if Peggy and Steve’s relationship wasn’t as bland. I would have preferred an enemies to lovers type of twist or change, where Steve doesn’t trust Peggy and struggles with her because he sees in her a different version of the Peggy that died in that universe. But noooo, god forbid, let’s go with the same old song.
An episode five or ten minutes longer with a better, avengers-centric or Steve-centric storyline would have been much better than what we got.
And given that this was my most anticipated episode, I was very disappointed by it. I hope for the next seasons, if there’s other ones, Marvel will listen to the general complaint regarding Peggy and will give her a break. I don’t think any of the original avengers or relevant MCU characters made as much appearances as Peggy, and being a main focus in four episodes out of nine is ridiculous.

Must See
There’s annoying tendency in left-wing film criticism to write reviews of movies with the twist being that the reviewer never saw it. All the trenchant commentary they made was based on the publicity campaign, the word from other reviews, and predicting forward from past films from that studio or franchise. Zizek did it with Matrix Resurrections and SMG did it with Avenger’s Endgame. It’s dumb trope and I *like* SMG and Zizek. I’m sure you’ve seen the trend going around.
It’s a joke see, that everything is so predictable that an observer of culture can see it without seeing. And yes, true, you’re very clever, but so what? I’m clever too - so what have you TOLD me that I did not already know? Every time we watch a movie is an encounter with the Real. We can choose to see only the properties we expect - how likable the characters are, is the franchise fading, whether right wing OR left wing tropes appear and how many - or we can actually see the thing in itself. We can notice that for all Love and Thunder is cheap mood-killing jokes for the first hour, there’s a half an hour of dead serious emotions filmed in black and white. We can notice how incredibly cute the outfits of the horror movie’s Final Girl are. We can apply our own perspective to the film - not just in our ideological interpretation, but simply what details you caught no one else did.
This is why the greatest sin is to read only the reviews and the fanfic and godforbid the DISCOURSE around a film and think you don’t actually need to see the movie yourself. To think picking up “the vibe” is enough of a replacement for direct experience.
To know the truth, you must see Goncharov yourself. Until then, everything is shadows against the cave wall.

Ranking All the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Specials
So, I’m in the process of finishing the script for a review of all the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer specials. However, I don’t know if I will realistically be able to complete my video before Christmas, so here is my ranking of every Rudolph special, from best to worst.
Tumblr media
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964): Despite all the memes (“Deviation from the norm will be punished unless it is exploitable!”), the original Rankin/Bass Rudolph special holds up much better than most of the internet gives it credit for. It has memorable characters and songs, it is well-paced and does not try to cram too many subplots into its runtime, its stop-motion animation was quite good for the time (and has a unique charm nowadays), and it actually fixes most of the issues with the original song and story. It’s a classic. 9.5/10
Tumblr media
Rudolph’s Shiny New Year (1976): The follow-up to the Rankin/Bass special is not as good as the first one, and the lesson of “If people laugh at you, it’s because you bring them joy and that’s a good thing!” is kind of reprehensible, but it’s still pretty alright. It certainly has some nice songs and creative ideas, and Red Skelton is charming as Father Time, although I can see why it didn’t become a holiday staple like the first one. For one thing, it’s less well-paced, and doubling it as a New Year’s special and as a celebration of America’s Bicentennial felt stranger. Still pretty good. 7/10
Tumblr media
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1948): This Max Fleischer short aired a year before the song’s release and thus is more closely based on the original Rudolph story. The animation is kind of janky (as a lot of Max Fleischer’s shorts are in hindsight, even though he was an animation pioneer) and the story is a bit standard, but it’s still a decent short film and a noble enough screen debut for the character. 6/10
Tumblr media
Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July (1979): Rankin/Bass pulled out all of the stops for this big epic crossover film between Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, their own Avengers: Endgame that also doubled as a sendoff for Rudolph and Frosty, who would never star in a Rankin/Bass project after this. However, despite some creative ideas, the plot felt all over the place, with far too many subplots and too much lore to keep track of, plus we did not need a explanation for Rudolph’s nose powers. We could have accepted it as simply being “magic,” and making him a chosen one poses more questions than it answers. Still, at least it was imaginative, which is more than I can say for the post-Rankin/Bass specials. 5.5/10
Tumblr media
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Movie (1998): GoodTimes Entertainment’s attempt at rebooting the franchise has diminishing returns, and reeks of the usual GoodTimes stench. The plot beats and characters felt very derivative of the original Rankin/Bass special, as a lot of GoodTimes movies feel derivative of other films, but this one felt even more obvious since even the songs themselves felt derivative of songs from the first Rankin/Bass one. And the $10 million budget clearly didn’t go to the writing or animation, so I have to wonder where it went. Presumably to the voice cast, and while it does bring in some well-known voice actors (including John Goodman, Whoopi Goldberg, Debbie Reynolds, and Monty Python’s Eric Idle), they cannot save this special from mediocrity. 4/10
Tumblr media
Rudolph’s Lessons for Life (1996): There’s a reason this special has been forgotten and isn’t even mentioned on Wikipedia. I only found out about it thanks to TV Tropes. Rudolph’s Lessons for Life feels like a remake of Max Fleischer’s Rudolph short, but a lot worse. At least the Fleischer short was good for the time. This special’s framerate feels like a PowerPoint presentation at points. The only copies that exist of this special are 240p VHS rips, so don’t bother watching unless you are a serious Rudolph completionist. 2/10
Tumblr media
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys (2001): GoodTimes Entertainment’s second attempt at a Rudolph movie, this one continues from the original Rankin/Bass special and ignores the two sequels. This movie easily has the worst animation of all of them, summoning memories of Foodfight! to mind, and even if you look past the animation, it’s seriously uninspired. The plot lifts beats from the original Rankin/Bass special, and the villain is ripped from Toy Story 2. Perhaps the only decent plot element is a subplot about an island where toys can get plastic surgery? But even then, it’s wasted because they do nothing with it. And the celebrity voice cast--including Richard Dreyfuss, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Rick Moranis--do nothing to help. This is bad. Awful. Burn it. Purge it with fire. 1/10
And that’s my ranking! What do you guys think? Leave your own rankings in the comments below, feel free to discuss if you have any questions, and look out for my review sometime next month!

I'm just going to say it Kevin Feige and all the MCU writers and directors deprived us of a Thor and Loki reunion. I think it's safe to say at this point both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston might be done with the MCU for the foreseeable future. When you factor in everything that Chris is going through taking a break from acting to spend more time with his family because of future health concerns, and combine with Thor Love and Thunder receiving so many negative reviews from fans and critics. The possibility of Thor 5 is looking pretty low. I feel like we are more likely to see him in the next Avengers movie.
On to Tom Hiddleston with the way Loki season 2 ended, and it seems like this time. There will be no season 3 Loki's story in the MCU is complete for now. I don't think there are going to mess with him for awhile. So yeah we're not getting that the brother reunion we hoped for. Ever since Endgame when past Loki escaped his time-line.
With all that being said they better not do the same thing to Carol and Monica. I want a teary-eyed "I never thought I would see you again. Reunion between these two Carol better not die before Monica is returned to her universe, and also bonus points. If Kamala is present for the reunion as well because they are practically best friends by the end of the movie, or at least Monica is another person Kamala looks up to. But yeah give it to us you jerks we didn't get to see Thor and Loki reunite, nor did we get to see Coulson and The Avengers reunite. Plus I'm still on the fence on rather or not we'll get Peter with MJ and Ned either considering the weird relationship with Disney and Sony. So yeah they can give us at least one. Or we riot.
