Recently decided to update the designs of my Arcane Detectives Club characters!

In order we have: Salem (he/him), Callum (they/them), Simon (he/him), Selena, (she/her), Percy (they/them), Judas (he/him/de/dem), Déjà (ve/vem), Aldric (he/him), and Alais (he/him/they/them)!

but really, this is my semi-modern fantasy story that I've had for a little over 4 years now.

the story followed Callum and Salem, two orphans who get sent off to a prestigious boarding school known as Opalwood Academy. Opalwood academy is a school that along side normal school curriculum also has classes dedicated to fostering magically gifted students. Only though with potentially strong magical abilities are able to join the school, which is how Salem and Callum got in. The story followed their school life but most importantly the club they join in the library, the Arcane detectives club.

The ADC originally started as a mystery book group where the members would read mystery novels or look up real world mysteries to try and solve. Though they soon become actual detectives after a spree of bad pranks start happening in the school. The story after that point followed multiple real mysteries that the kids take upon themselves to solve; with new members joining along the way.

The characters are split into 3 groups: The ADC originals, the ADC newcomers, and non ADC memebers.

The originals are: Salem, Callum, Selena, and Percy.

Newcomers are: Simon, Deja, and Judas.

Non-ADC are: Aldric and Alais.

Prepare for some character summaries below in order of the character images above.

Salem Grimmerwold (he/him Agender)

proficiency: Reality manipulation

Class Level: 2

Salem is a 15 year old student at O.W. Academy. Salem was orphaned at a young age thanks to his curse and was sent to live in Rainshine Orphanage. While there he met his best friend, practically sibling, Callum. Due to how he is treated from his curse, Salem can come off as distant to strangers. He tends to speak politely in a disconnected manner which can seem off putting to those around him but once you get to know him you will find he can be quite the goofball.

Callum Heartstrong (they/them Nonbinary)

proficiency: Plant Magic

Class level: 2

Callum is a 15 year old student at O.W. Academy. After a tragic accident that too their parent's lives they were sent to live in Rainshine Orphanage, where they met Salem. Many would call Callum an extrovert with how much they love talking to people but they would be wrong as Callum is really just an outgoing introvert. If you were to walk into their room you'd thing you had entered a green house with how many plants they have - curiously enough, it seems Callum has the ability to talk to them.

Simon Brewer (he/him Cis)

proficiency: Alchemy

Class Level : 2

Simon is a 15 year old student at O.W. Academy. Simon is considered one of the more talented alchemist students in the Academy. He has a deep understanding of potion making, herbs, and magical effects and is able to create potions that most students have yet to learn. Unfortunately, this has made him the target of a few jealous students...

Selena Winters (she/her Cis)

proficiency: Illusions

Class Level: 3

Selena is a 16 year old student at O.W. Academy. She is the president of the Arcane Detectives club, having started it when she was level 2. When she first started the ADC it was a book club specifically about reading mystery books and the such. She works as the assistant at the library and can often be found walking amongst the shelves.

Perseus "Percy" Bronwyn (they/them Androgyne)

proficiency: Animal magic

Class level: 3

Percy is a 15 year old student at O.W. Academy. Percy's specialty is in animal magic but they have been secretly been practicing the controversial magic of necromancy. With their dream to be a veterinarian for magical creatures, they believe that necromancy can help them save more animals - even if the use of it could get them in trouble with the school. Percy also has the ability to turn into an owl.

Judas Ambrose (He/Him/De/Dem Genderweird)

proficiency: Charms

Class Level: 3

Judas is a 14 year old student at O.W. Academy. Judas is one of few students who take night classes at the Academy, which has lead to student's speculating if he is a vampire or not. He is rather skittish and avoids any questions related to him possibly being a vampire, causing rumors to spread more. De doesn't seem all that thrilled being in the public eye, often hiding in deir dorm room and only leaving for classes.

Déjà Vasilis (Ve/Vem Cosmicgender)

proficiency: time manipulation

Class Level: 2

Deja is a 14 year old student at O.W. Academy. No one knows how Ve has such high grades while also slacking off at any given moment. Ve also have the uncanny ability to finish peoples sentences or predict events before they happen. some are convinced that ve may be using time magic to perfect their classes - but of course no one can prove it and Deja sure won't confirm such an accusation lest they get in trouble with the school for the use of a highly regulated magic.

Aldric Gardner (he/him Transman)

proficiency: Magic absorption and amplification

Aldric, while he may not look it, is actually around 500 years old. After being caught partaking in black magic he was locked away in a magical amulet. Passed around as old jewelry he somehow made his way into the hands of two young O.W. students, Callum and Salem. Aldric decides to team up with the kids in hopes that they may be able to release him from his amulet prison. Though, has he really learned his lesson as he claims?

Alais Locke (He/Him/They/Them Demiboy)

proficiency: reanimation magic

Alais is a mysterious warlock who no one recognizes as an O.W. Academy student. Yet, when things start to go missing around the school all evidence is pointing to them. Who are they and what exactly are they looking for at the Academy? (Alais' arc is still a WIP so just know that his story will likely change as i brainstorm it more)

Hey @albatris, thanks for the ask! ♥️ I know I haven't been as active as I'd like to be the past few months (burnout and such), but I've still been just as focused on my wips in the meantime. That being said, I've been rather excited about Silas lately; I've been working though his relationships with other people, mainly Ella and Alais.

Although he is not very approachable and rarely shows his emotions, Silas secretly has a strong sense of empathy, but he longs to remain solitary. The path of vengeance is a dangerous one, and he doesn't want to put anyone else at risk. He is afraid of keeping people close to him because love has the possibility of being used against him. Regardless, he can't help but catch feelings and starts to fall for Ella. Despite clashing with one another at the beginning, Ella becomes a sort of moral rock for him to steady himself on since she's been down a similar path and is intimately familiar with the damage it can do to one's self. If I could sum up the vibe of their relationship, it'd be with this post.

Alais, on the other hand, becomes a little brother figure in Silas' life. While Ella guides Silas along the path of becoming a better person (than he was before at least, he's still a little feral if I'm to be honest), Alais helps him feel more comfortable expressing his emotions and generally being more "vulnerable" around others. Alais' family was rather touchy-feely, and his need for connection opens up something within Silas that he locked away years ago.

👤 - What’s one (or more) ways their sneeze reflects their personality?

Much like himself, his sneezes tend to be short, sometimes sharp, and to the point. He doesn’t usually like to repeat himself, and he also doesn’t usually sneeze more than once at a time.

⚔️ - How do they go about trying to fend off a sneeze? Is it effective?

Alai will do whatever he can to keep a sneeze at bay while he’s in the command center and in front of people. But he can’t be too obvious about it. He’ll usually wait until no one is looking and give his nose a quick rub. Or if he can’t he’ll do the subtlest wiggling of his nose that he can. This method is usually fairly successful, but the itch will just keep bothering him until he finally sneezes it out.

✋ - Is there a certain way they go about touching their nose/face? A certain part of their hand they use? Knuckles, wrist, fingers?

If he has to, he’ll likely use a quick press of a knuckle or two against either the side of his nose or under his nostril. When he does (inevitably) sneeze, he’ll usually cup at least one, usually two hands over his nose and mouth, both to embarrass himself less and make it somewhat quieter.

simon survived his wounds on the island, and was secretly cared for by roger (not really “cared” for, just “kept alive”). however, he is left partially paralyzed in one leg and has chronic pain because of it. when they return to civilization, he uses a mobility aid

the choir doubles as their schools honorary gsa

jack is openly trans and jokingly blames transphobia whenever he doesn’t get his way. this infuriates piggy

simons guilty pleasure is fast food. he has strong opinions about what makes a good french fry

maurice makes british jokes and sam has to gently remind him that they are all in fact british

good omens:

crowley has trouble seeing because of his snake eyes. he misses the stars dearly. once, aziraphale brought him to an observatory on the top of a mountain and crowley cried because the stars were just bright enough for him to see

crowley also gets excited whenever humans discover new telescopes or ways to take pictures of other galaxies because it means people are getting closer to seeing more of his creations

aziraphale invented macadamia nuts (reasons: they’re buttery and soft and light and are really nice to bite and i like them)

les mis:

grantaire makes music. 3 am guitar recordings and random voice memos of lyric ideas. most are about enjolras

as a smart person and a victim of police brutality, valjean is a firm acab believer. he likes giving large anonymous locations to the les amis

marius is the token straight friend, even though he himself is a trans man. there’s such a lack of cishet folks in their friend group that the token straight is literally queer

enjolras is terribly allergic to cats but pets grantaires pet cat anyway. he suffers constantly

other hcs about my lotf oc: he likes swimming but hates the feeling of dried salt water on his body, he likes to paint his nails, he chews his hair and nails when he’s nervous (someone needs to introduce this boy to oral stim toys), and his favorite color is baby blue!

You know the Turkish saying, "Alay, bir aptalın ilk ve tek argümanıdır." - "Ridicule - a fool's first and last argument."? That's what I think of when I think of Lily. All she can do is insult people. She can't name reasons why she's right, she can only call other people Nazis, TERFs, stupid, fetishizers, right-wingers, etc. She's not a critic. She's a fool, the court jester, and yet she thinks she's the queen. It'd be excusable in a kid, but at her age, I find it cringe-inducing. Not "cringy" as in "so cringe I'm going to point and laugh". Cringe-inducing, as, "I can't believe a grown adult is acting like this and watching it makes me embarrassed for her to the point I want to turn this off." She's sort of the female Donald Trump. Insult people, play the victim, blow everything out of proportion, repeat, for years and years.

i have noticed that with the years, if anything, LO only has gotten worse and worse. she was always a liar (as evidence by the Tara catfishing and her supposed dead daughter as inspiration for a OC), but it's like having an actual audience has emboldened her to lie about other people with a full chest and with zero regard for any consequences. you'd hope that growing up would teach LO something about how to deal with the internet, but it's like she's stuck on her 2000's mentality of how the world is and works, refusing to get updated.

7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Homemade soup tends to trigger his nostalgia, as his mother would often make soup when he was sick or otherwise feeling down. Working on puzzles has the same effect. His uncle would collect them and hand them off to Alais and his brother to help keep the two of them occupied and therefore out of trouble. Although it's a nice feeling at first, the comfort of these memories is fleeting because they're filled with people who are no longer around.

16. What makes their stomach turn?

Blood. He developed hemophobia from a past trauma, so the mere sight of blood will make him faint. Anything gory in general tends to make him a bit squeamish.

1 - Surveys aside, do you use Tumblr for any other reason?

I have a personal blog and another side blog I run together with my sister, dedicated to our OCs.

2 - Do you have a lot of social media accounts? Do you update them all regularly?

I have a YouTube channel and an Instagram account, both updated fairly often. My Instagram is dedicated only to my photography.

3 - Does it bother you when your socks don’t match? What about your underwear?

How can I have "matching underwear"? Matching to socks or what? Anyway, I like my socks in pairs, and for the rest I don't care, as long as it's clean.

4 - How many times a year do you go on vacation? Do you tend to go to the same places each time?

zAt least once a year, this time we went three times. We alays go to the same place in Poland.

5 - How many times did it take you to pass your driving test?

I don't have a licence due to chronic neurological issues.

6 - When you’re in trouble, do your parents ever “middle name” you?

What? I don't understand this question.

7 - Which family member do you look like the most? Which one do you resemble the most in terms of personality?

I look like my dad with my mum's nose (we both have a little bump on our noses), and my personality is a bit like my dad and paternal grandpa, but mostly like my late paternal grandma.

8 - Have you ever been arrested?

No, I haven't.

9 - Do you prefer Apple or Android?

Android all the way.

10 - Does getting sweaty or dirty bother you at all? If so, has it ever put you off doing exercise?

Dirty doesn't that much, but being sweaty and stinky is a nightmare to me. No, iot doesn't put me off exercising.

11 - Have you ever broken a bone? What were the circumstances that led to this happening?

No, I haven't. My bones are ridiculously strong.

12 - If you could change one thing about your appearance, what would it be?

Everything. Does it count as one thing?

13 - When was the last time your computer crashed or froze? is this something that happens often?

Two days ago and no, it doesn't happen often.

14 - Do you ever have problems with your sleep?

Sometimes, but this has improved since I started taking antidepressants again.

15 - What was the last thing you ate for breakfast? Is this a normal breakfast meal for you?

Rice pudding and no, it's usually oatmeal or cereals.

16 - Have you ever thought about how you want to spend your retirement?

If I ever make it to that point lol. I'd love to travel more.

17 - When was the last time you got a new tattoo or piercing? Do you have any plans to get either in the future?

Last tattoo I got in January this year and yes, I have plans for several tattoos already. For piercings, I want more ear piercings, and the last one I got was having my eyebrow redone.

18 - How would you describe your personality?

Hardworking, ambitious, funny, friendly, anxious.

19 - Have you ever heard of “hygge”? is this something you enjoy or participate in at all?

I have heard it, but I still didn't grasp the whole concept of it.

20 - What colour was the last vehicle you travelled in? Does this vehicle belong to you or someone else?

Black, and it legally belongs to my husband.

21 - Would you describe yourself as healthy? Why or why not?

It depends on whichg area we're talking about. In general, I tend to be pretty messy, but at work, I'm definitely organised. The apps in my phone are organised, too.

23 - Do you miss anything about being a teenager? If you are a teenager, what’s your favourite thing about it?

I miss having better health and not having real problems. Even more so, being a child.

24 - Are you patriotic at all? Why/why not?

I am, but I can't exactly pinpoint why. I just love my weird little country.

No, I haven't. I haven't had the chance.

Lol my mum doesn't even have a career XD my dad was first NMBS- and then Infrabel worker, so he's been always tied to trains. I work in Alstom, which is a rolling stock company, so I kinda "continue the tradition", just from another perspective. TO clarify, NMBS is Belgian Railways, Infrabel is a railway maintenance company, and Alstom... I just said what it is. :P

27 - Do you believe in aliens? Is there a reason why (or why not)?

It's hard for me to believe we're all alone in the universe, because the universe is just too big.

28 - Which animated film would you most like to live in?

None, I'm not interested in any movies.

29 - When was the last time you got into an argument? Have you made up with that person yet?

Yesterday with my husband and yes, we made up.
