GUYS GUYS GUYS I HAVE A 2012 TMNT AU 💞💞💞💞

Warning; long text post up ahead

So it’s a yakuza au; based on the season after the defeat the triceratops or whatever

Contains: raph/Mona Lisa, dead splinter and dead Leonardo, Casey jones/donatello, morally grey turtles, them having depression for a lil while

Beware: this au is a lil angsty but I have the timeline in my head so it’s all good

When I say angsty I mean leo is dead 💀

(Don’t kill me pls)

So it begins to diverge from canon with leo dying in the final battle or sum

And the whole Space shenanigans shit is over they won and the saved the world but Mikey, Donnie, and raph are hella sad bc their fucking brother just died

Splinters will says sum ab wanting to be buried in Japan

And while they getting the body and proper Japanese burial in order I know nothing ab burials in other countries and shit( and if ur wondering why they haven’t buried him in Japan yet, they were kinda in the middle of an intergalactic war and the like)

Everything in nyc remind they of splinter and leo and they literally can’t take it

So when they have a funeral in Japan… they just stay there

Raph

You can’t get anything out of Raph other than anger; he ends you punching anyone who looks at him a lil too long or with pity

He’s so sad; and so mad as a result( he had his breakdown when he saw his brother dead and again when he buried him; those times were the hardest he ever cried)

Leo was supposed to be constant was supposed to always be there; the water to his fire; to calm him down and to round him out and he’s not here and he’s never been more miserable

While the hamato fam is staying in Japan he doesn’t stay in the house for long

He ends up fighting a lot of yakuza; not in a need to be a hero; but only to release all the emotional turmoil he feels

He can’t look at his brothers without feeling like a failure

Mona is trying to get him to talk to his family but to no avail

He ends up making enemies with the local yakuza Oop

And that’s how everything starts

But before we get into that….

Donatello

He goes into this deep depression after the funeral

After splinters death he threw himself into his work and technology to prove himself, he felt he needed to make sure that he never loses any member of his family ever again

But after Leo’s death he barely leaves his bed

I hc that donatello had the most body dysmorphia and internalized hatred due to being a sentient turtle; basically he’s rlly in his head all the time and has major self esteem issues

And they only get worse, bc even with him trying his hardest, with him barely takin any breaks in an effort not to lose anyone and he does? That absolutely kills him on the inside

He barely leaves the bed most days and his thought process is all; what’s the point? Everything I do fails anyway

Casey makes sure he eats and shit

With Casey’s help he’ll sometimes go to the park

And every once in a while they’ll have a family hamato dinner( I forgor to mention earlier that at this point Casey, Donnie, Mona, Raph, and Mikey all live in the same house; but they hardly see each other)(April gets her own apartment and visits Mikey daily)

And during one dinner….

Mikey

He deals with his grief the healthiest; he tries to spend his days doing things, like water plants, feed stray animals, eats lunch with April, learns to cook Japanese food,

He still cries himself to sleep

He makes friends like how he usually does

He helps April get a job at a convenience store

He help mutaanimals get jobs and all

He helps the neighborhood with any problems

He’s spends all his days outside bc his house feels so empty and even though he makes dinner for everyone he never sees them eating it; or even if they do eat

He visits Leo’s and Splinter’s joint shrine daily; he cleans them and keeps them well kept ( I have no idea how Japanese shrines work 😭, but Mikey does and he takes care of them with the rice and the incense and all)

He tells them about his day and his feelings

He gets a therapist along with April

His therapist suggests a family meeting

And the first family meeting is held in total silence

Mikey keeps on trying to make conversation

And raph gets all snippy; probably says something like, “ why do you even care? It’s not like Leo’s death is affecting you anyways” bc he’s a dumbass and emotionally constipated

And Mikey just snaps

He explains how he really feels, how much Leo’s death affected him

But then he says, “ but the worst part, is that I didn’t only lose Leo. I lost my whole family”

And he storms out leaving Donnie and raph in shock and to stew in their guilt bc they haven’t even talked to their youngest brother, of course he’s hurt and the only one who ever tried to ask how he felt is gone now and they’ve been terrible brothers and-

i found the shinnie-ass dialogue from homestuck

Page one of shinnie dialogue (dealing with fragments of the self) Page two of shinnie dialogue (avoiding death)

But first: A bit of explanation. because this shit is a bit confusing to me and i've read this scene five times

This scene occurs between Dirk Strider (teenage version of dave strider's brother, not a complete asshole this time around) and Lil' Hal, who is a self aware AI replica of Dirk made by Dirk when he was like 13, who has now developed his own personality. Lil' Hal speaks in the red text, Dirk speaks in the orange. also lil' hal is dirk's glasses

Lil' Hal has almost-near control over all of Dirk's interpersonal relationships, as he's able to chat with all of Dirk's friends. This is the main conflict in most of the first half of the first page, as Dirk recently broke up with his boyfriend, Jake, in a rather. Momentous standoff.

However, as page one of the Shinnie Dialogue is Wordy As Fuck, i'll try and pick out some of the snippets that i think are important

DO THEY EVEN EXIST IN THIS WORLD. SAD. like even in a world that seemed to be kinder to kaito by not making his dad such a dick or his bro sick, he still got fucked over by a WAR in the end which is worse than what happened in zexal akjsfkjhn. well. at least this kaito hasnt taken the Moon Trip.

-ohhh my gosh yuto, shun, and ruri in casual clothes hangin out and watching kaito duel (also, this heartland has duel schools! named after card suites! thats fun) shun and kaito must be the same age, right? …so I assume the flashback is when they were 17ish and kaito is 18 now like in zexal? so the attack on heartland took place over the course of a few months to a year (ongoing it seems like but only to get stragglers now…oof) I thought shun, ruri and yuto were all the sameish age but nope. knowing yuzu and yuya are 14 makes me think all the counterparts are the same, so its probably pretty likely all three went to normal (non dueling) school together AND then duel school together, but yuto and ruri are prob in the same age so they mightve been friends first from going to the same school, and ruri later introduced yuto to her brother? so they have a cute lil trio now…this is my headcanon. (it rly does seem like all the yuboys and bracelet girlies were bffs from young ages EXCEPT serena and yuri jkdshfk)

-also can I assume at least SOME of the original characters from zexal are in this universe if not yuma for whatever reason (and prob not any of the barians?) like. would kotori have been goin to school and been in the grade right under yuto/ruri? …I want ruri and her to be bird friends

-the ED is still a dsod commercial booo let me see the ed animation! I had to go look it up on youtube. and its prob my least fav so far sadjfhkj its nice looking but so Plain compared to the others..the song is nice?

-oh my god kaito said he dueled yuto countless times and yet it took him halfway into the duel to realize yuya looked like him. kaito faceblind like me confirmed? also I like how kaito didnt beat yuya SUper fast like jack did the first time lol, makes me think yuyas getting a lot stronger gradually which is fun!

-yuto during the kaito stuff started speaking to yuya? he literally has not regularly done that at all up until this point. was..he able to do that all along and just Never did?? lmao?? not even to pass along messages to his bestie shun??? nope, kaito is Thee Important Guy to talk to yuya abt I Guess haha. good to see him again. also still good that yuya is not Questioning Why yuto is Tagging along inside of him or why that happened in the first place. lol

BnHA Chapter 302: As the Todoroki Turns

Previously on BnHA:

Today on BnHA: We have a very fun chapter in which (1) Shouto grows up lonely on account of his parents being worried that his siblings will literally try to kill him, (2) Natsu and Fuyu grow up neglected on account of not being special and/or self-destructive enough to attract attention, (3) we get to revisit all of that exciting spousal abuse from chapter 39, and (4) Touya burns to death right on cue, pretty much exactly like we expected it to happen. Thankfully since this is a shounen manga, Horikoshi finds some hope in all this misery as the Todoroki family rallies together, with Shouto getting his long-overdue credit for being a perfect sweet angel who put up with all of this shit for sixteen years and somehow came out of it strong and kind and empathetic and determined. Anyway, so that flashback was a barrel of laughs. But now that it’s over, we can put all of that angst behind us, and move on to... well I guess, probably, more angst. Look, we’re short on variety at the moment. Bear with it.

A+ parenting move there. “ho boy, our eldest just tried to murder our youngest, now what? hmm how about we isolate our youngest from all human contact”

though in their defense, we probably shouldn’t have expected this rabidly strength-obsessed fire man and his wife who was groomed since childhood to obey her family’s whims to have any idea of how to raise stable, well-adjusted offspring

SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS

this is a perfect example of Enji’s tragically self-revolving viewpoint right here. just because being a hero is your entire world doesn’t mean you can just excuse yourself from anything outside of that and act like it’s out of your control. “alas, all I care about is hero stuff and my son can’t be a hero, we are doomed to inhabit two different worlds” no you jackass, it’s called having more than one hobby?? figuring out how to spend some time with your son that doesn’t involve training?? the same exact thing you were telling him to do last week, while ignoring that you’ve never done that yourself in your life??

that said, yet again we have that complexity though because it’s obvious that Enji at least on some level is aware of his own flaws, even though he seems unwilling or unable to confront them. honestly, from what we’ve seen so far, Enji’s obsession with surpassing All Might might be more accurately called an addiction. he literally can’t let go of it even though he’s fully aware of how it’s slowly destroying his life. and so in the same way that a lifelong smoker or alcoholic might tell their child to stay away from cigarettes and booze, Enji tells Touya not to follow down the same path as him, even though he himself doesn’t know how to leave that path. so yes, it’s hypocritical as fuck, but there’s also an element of helplessness there as well because Enji literally doesn’t know how not to be like this

though all the same he sure could stand to put in more than just a token effort. but it is what it is, and we already know how much he’ll come to regret it

and meanwhile Baby Shouto has frozen his sleep bubble with his quirk lmao. so I guess his quirk did come in early. that’s a recipe for chaos right there

once again Shouto is ruining every single dramatic panel in this flashback

this was so dark and intense... and then I spotted the lil bubs in the corner. Horikoshi please control yourself

“some hero you are, running away” and then all of a sudden, “FIVE YEARS LATER” lol what. OKAY THEN

(ETA: love the confirmation that eight-year-old Natsu comes from the Iida school of puberty and is basically a fully grown man, and meanwhile Touya comes from the hobbit school of puberty and has been perpetually eight for the past five years.)

“HEY BIG BRO WANNA COME RECREATE AN ICONIC FLASHBACK SCENE WITH US. WE’VE GOT THE SOCCER BALL RIGHT HERE, BUT HURRY UP OR WE’LL BE TOO LATE FOR SHOUTO TO WALK ON BY AND STOP TO LOOK”

lol and that’s literally the next three panels. but Horikoshi did add this extra bit after Endeavor starts to drag Shouto away

seriously Enji what the hell did you expect was going to happen here. “Touya went nuts and tried to kill his little brother out of jealousy, so let’s make it clearer than ever that Shouto is the important child and all the other children are just rejects. this will definitely not make the problem 100x worse, and will surely lead to Touya giving up and living a happy life, having been emotionally abandoned by the person he admired more than anyone.” good for you pal you figured it all out. no need for that plan b, “we all just go to therapy”

anyway so he’s telling Shouto he can’t play because he needs more endurance training. and meanwhile Touya’s patented Todoroki Drama Genes are going through puberty as well

definitely the face of a happy, emotionally stable child who’s not still plotting to murder his younger brother in his sleep

apparently during the five year interim Touya actually stopped blaming Shouto and realized Enji was the one at fault. good for him! a bit inconsistent, given what we know happens later, but I assume we’ll get to that in good time

anyway. “yeah man I agree that dad sucks, but it’s the middle of the night and I’m only eight and you’ve been monologuing for the past two hours bro”

looks like someone’s still miffed about that disagreement he had with his baby sister back when she was like four

“Fuyu doesn’t get properly riled up like I want her to so ranting to her is annoying.” okay but having been in Fuyu’s shoes, it really is just a different way of coping, and I can guarantee she’s not as fine with the whole situation as Touya might think. but making your peace with something is often a decision that’s made for emotional self-preservation reasons. and I sure as hell don’t fault her for trying to shut out a situation that she had no control over, and trying to make the best of it, and scrape together as normal a childhood as she could manage

and now in Touya’s defense as well, that is of course easier said than done, and I’m sure if there was a “push this button and instantly get over all of the trauma in your life” switch readily available for Touya then he would have pushed it too. unfortunately it’s not always that simple

so now Rei is pleading with Touya not to go train up on his little emo hill again, but it doesn’t seem like much has changed since he was eight

I don’t think he gives two figs about being a hero; he just wants his father to look at him again with pride. fucking hell, stop doing this to me you damn Todorokis

guh, they keep telling him the same thing over and over again

even if we hadn’t already known he was gonna go melt his jawbone off soon, I wouldn’t have expected a line like that to go over well

that Todoroki puberty angst, though. nothing else quite like it

okay but look, he’s not entirely wrong. like, I’m not saying any of this is Rei’s fault at all! she’s in an impossible situation where she’s afraid to stand up to Enji (who by this point has shown that he’s willing to physically attack her if things get too heated, which is terrifying), and doesn’t really have anywhere to turn for support. her parents aren’t helping much if at all, and Japan in general is just a terrible country to be in when you’re in a domestic abuse situation. everyone’s expected to put on a brave face and deal with their problems all on their own in private. Rei is basically completely isolated at this point, and she doesn’t know what else to do, and so she’s just trying to keep the situation as stable as possible for the kids

but on the other hand, “for the kids” is also where that argument starts to break down a bit, because at this point Shouto is also being physically abused by his father, and the other kids are continuing to be neglected (emotionally if not physically), as they have been for years. so the situation really isn’t stable at all for them. and as a kid, what you end up learning in that type of situation is that you can’t rely on either parent. not the abusive one, certainly, but also not the other one who can’t protect you from any of it. even if they love you and they’re trying, they’re just as helpless as you. Rei is struggling to deal with all of this with one hand tied behind her back, and I get it, and I’m not blaming her at all. but all the same, particularly given that she’s (understandably) putting almost all her focus on Shouto, the end result is that the other kids have basically been left to fend for themselves

so yeah! a shitty situation all around. and one of those cases where it’s not really anyone’s fault (aside from Enji’s), but I can understand the resentment Touya is feeling all the same. and I’m so glad Horikoshi is acknowledging this, because it’s something I probably would have been too uncomfortable to bring up otherwise. as it is it’s still an incredibly heavy subject, and one that I probably have too many personal feelings about

anyway, so once again the whole “we’ll try talking to him and then just shrug our shoulders when it doesn’t work” parenting strategy doesn’t really pan out for the Todoroki fam

yeah I think that’s one thing we can mostly all agree on. neither of them had any clue what the fuck they were doing pretty much at any point. though I will say that the hypocrisy of him being all “WHY DIDN’T YOU STOP HIM” followed by him IMMEDIATELY DOING THE EXACT SAME THING is a bit rich

(ETA: and he still has this problem, doesn’t he? he froze up when Ending snatched Natsuo, and again when Dabi was attacking Shouto. he’s so afraid of doing the wrong thing that he ends up not doing anything, which of course is exactly what led to Touya’s death. damn Enji I guess you’ve still got some additional character development to unlock.)

and of course neither of them could possibly have known how badly it was going to turn out. like, the consequences here were WAY disproportionate even for the shittiest of parenting. no one expects “I didn’t know how to talk to my son” to snowball into “my son burned to death and then somehow came back as a villain and murdered thirty people”

LITERALLY INCINERATED THE ENTIRE HILLSIDE. fuck. and I am so not ready for the scene of Enji finding the remains of his jawbone afterwards. at least we were spared anything super-graphic (for now at least)

I feel like the timeline here is off, btw?? wasn’t Touya’s death supposed to happen after Rei got hospitalized? this might be the first actual retcon of the entire flashback. although I think it makes more sense this way tbh

I do appreciate that ten years later Enji is finally reflecting on the fact that if he’d just given up his stupid obsession he could have stopped his family from crumbling apart. that probably sounds sarcastic as fuck, but it’s not. there are countless jerks out there who would have still managed to find a way to blame literally everyone and everything under the sun except for themselves. at least he finally figured out how to take responsibility, even if it came too late to stop his son from dying and being radicalized into a villain terrorist organization

and speaking of, it seems to me we’re missing a third and final part to this little tale of woe, and one which only Touya himself will be able to shed any light on. so we’ll see how that goes

oh man seeing the other kids blaming themselves even though none of it was their fault hits hard af. Rei wasn’t kidding when she said they’d been bearing that burden of guilt far longer than Enji

BUT ALSO HE STILL REFUSES TO MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH HIM AND HE WOULD LIKE HIM TO STOP BEING SO FUCKING DRAMATIC ALREADY IF YOU DON’T MIND. “WHEN YOU’RE DONE CRYING...” fkjldsk

SPICY HOT HOT GHOST PEPPERS CAROLINA REAPERS HELP I'M BURNING

I really try to respect other people’s opinions, and I believe there are a wealth of ways to interpret a story, and I think that’s a deeply beautiful thing. This applies to interpretations I don't agree with and outright dislike as well. That said, some opinions are simply and objectively bad, dishonest, and/or demonstrably false, and I truly do not believe you can sit down and honestly watch through the show with an open mind about all the characters, truly pay attention to what they do, say, and believe, and come to the conclusion that this show is about an evil manipulative abusive man terrorizing his pure and sinless brother and friend. It is an interpretation built from cherry picking facts to suit an ugly, miserable theory, making Mount Everest out of a bunch of the tiny mole hills, making the worst possible presumptions of feelings and intentions, and holding characters to completely different standards in order to neatly divide them into "abused" and "abuser" in a way that, frankly, fetishizes the abused person. I despise this interpretation of the story with every fiber of my being, and I have absolutely no respect for the opinion of anyone who peddles it, regardless of who they cast as villain/victim (because people have also done this with the others—it’s just more “popular” to do it with Dean... I mean... does anyone else remember how people were shitting on Sam after his emotional reaction in 14.12? Calling him an evil abuser? Because I do).

The thing that always gets me about this take isn't just how dishonest, unfair, mean-spirited, and compassionless it is in its treatment of Dean’s feelings, circumstances, and intentions... but how deeply reductive and offensive it is toward Sam and Castiel, sucking away their identities to turn them into effigies to mourn for their sad, Stockholm syndrome-esque attachment to their "abuser". Further, it grips the heart of the show—the relationship between Sam and Dean, and then the relationship among TFW as a whole—in a tight, uncompromising fist and pulverizes it. It literally rips out the heart of the show (the RELATIONSHIPS) and replaces it with something unprepossessing of any merit: A miserable, 15 years long story about a malicious abuser getting away with terrorizing those closest to him for his entire life, while his poor abuse victims suffer through until they die for him/happy to be reunited with him because they “don’t know any better” and never ever learned better, I guess. What a stupid, sad sack of a story.

Castiel is a thousands of years old celestial being who has literally beaten Dean into the pavement under no form of mind control, and has shown over and over again that he will do whatever the hell he wants, regardless of whatever Dean thinks about being sidelined. If he thinks whatever he is doing is in Dean's best interest, he literally does not care how Dean feels about it. He will nod and smile and then fly off and swallow thousands of souls with Dean begging him not to, shove Dean out of the way to attack the big bad, leave Dean alone in Purgatory, refuse to come out of Purgatory so he can self-flagellate, fly off with the angel tablet, help Sam with the Book of the Damned, let Lucifer possess him without anyone's knowledge or agreement, come into Dean's room under the guise of apologizing for ghosting him so that he can steal The Colt out from under his pillow and murder someone, decide not to murder that person and still prevent Sam and Dean from helping by knocking them both unconscious, get himself killed, make a deal to trade his life for Jack's and never tell anyone, hide information and worries and ignore phone calls, ghost Sam and Dean, and bicker and fight with Dean as if they are a married couple. Love sickness and feelings of worthlessness (which Cas has a wealth of reasons to feel—many of which aren’t even related to Dean but to his heavenly family) are reinterpreted as the result of some sort of constant, terrorizing emotional abuse. Power and authority that Dean does not actually have is forced into his hands by these fans. Maybe listen when Cas says, “Hey—not everything is your fault.” Maybe listen when he says “I loved the whole world because of you”, calls Dean a role model, says he enjoys their conversations, offers to die with him and dies for him multiple times. Maybe treat these feelings as genuine and valid and HIS and not as the delusions of some poor manipulated baby.

Sam is framed this way even more often than Cas, and it's a damn shame, because what I typically see is this: Sam’s development into a mediator and peacemaker is twisted and reinterpreted as coming from a place of weakness and/or fear. Rationality, maturity, wisdom, and compassion are not the traits of a scared, powerless child. They are the traits of a mature adult, who has been beaten down by life, and fought and raged against his circumstances, and somehow come out of it with more kindness and understanding and strength instead of less. He has made his own decisions whenever it was possible, within the set of circumstances doled out to him. From telling his dad to go fuck himself and going to college, to getting back into hunting to avenge Jess (NOT because of Dean—Dean took him home without complaint at the end of the woman in white case), to continuing to hunt after their father died because he wanted to feel close to him (Dean was actually weirded out and sort of disgusted by this), raging and fighting to save Dean from his deal against Dean’s wishes, continuing to hunt and working with Ruby (directly against Dean’s dying wish), drinking demon blood, jumping in the cage, leaving hunting to go be with Amelia, coming back to hunting to save Kevin, fighting with Dean over what he had with Amelia and threatening to leave if Dean didn't shut his mouth, leaving Amelia to go back to hunting (Dean ultimately suggests he go back to her—Sam chooses to stay), trying to kill Benny, demanding to be the one to do The Trials and saying he is going to SURVIVE them—that being the ENTIRE POINT, losing that resolve in a fit of depression but choosing to drop the knife, demanding space from Dean (and being given it), fighting to save Demon Dean who didn’t want to be found or saved, using the Book of the Damned against Dean’s wishes, telling Charlie that this is what he wants—that he used to want normal but now all he wants is to hunt with Dean and that he doesn’t know what he’ll do if he can’t have that, unleashing the Darkness in his desperation to keep Dean with him and even saying, “I would do it again” in the aftermath, saving the town being destroyed by Amara, getting into The Cage with Lucifer, leading a team against the British Men of Letters, nurturing Jack, punching Dean in the face when he was going to sacrifice himself, leading more hunters, wielding a gun against Chuck... and that’s just some highlights. Sam Fucking Winchester does not need your bullshit about him being some sad, scared, helpless baby lorded over by mean old Dean who has never let him do anything he wants.

Yes, in the text itself, there is jealousy and resentment at times, and there is legitimate and righteous anger on Sam’s part on a few occasions. There is blame cast on Dean by Sam for some of these choices/circumstances. Some of those moments where Dean is blamed are legitimate, and some of them... frankly, are not. Within the framework of the fucked up dynamics of the way they were raised, Sam and some fans bristle when they feel Dean is casting himself as the parent he is not, but Sam also has been guilty in the past of trying to reframe himself as Dean’s child when things got tough. Neither of them is responsible for the origin of that dynamic, but they BOTH have responsibility to change it, and they both, ultimately, succeed in doing so. For Sam, his part comes in recognizing and learning to fully own his own choices. Recognizing that he is not a child, and he is certainly not Dean’s child, and it isn’t just “Mummy—loosen the grip”, but Sam has to too—not claim independence only to blame Dean for his choices when his own decisions have an ultimate outcome he is unhappy with. That is a legitimate arc that Sam goes through imo, but he comes out the other side of it, and he and Dean relate to each other much better as peers from then on—and I’d like to note that throughout the entire series, when they don’t relate as perfect peers and teammates, it isn’t always Dean “bossing Sam around”, but Sam also trying to sideline Dean and yes—boss him around. And when they lied and hurt each other and yes, even manipulated each other, Dean most certainly wasn't always the one doing the lying and hurting and manipulating. Always, always, ALWAYS, they both had an understandable point of view, and it was complex, and you could understand why they made the choices they did, even if you thought of those choices as being wrong ones.

I also would like to point out (because this is basically what I see all of the time) that Dean being hurt by someone or simply voicing his feelings or opinion is in no way abusive or manipulative. Dean is certainly charismatic and loved and his returning love and respect is often deeply desired, but he is not an actual siren, who bends people to his will simply by speaking or being. People are, in fact, able to tell him “no”, and frequently FREQUENTLY do. Further more, no one is owed his affection, his unwavering loyalty, or his trust. He has a right to his boundaries, regardless of if it makes some poor sad sap feel deprived of the “wellspring of coveted love” while he works through things. He can be hurt and angry, and he can wear his heart on his sleeve at times, and he can be flawed, and broken. [Insert Castiel's speech from 15.18 here]. So can Sam. So can Cas. None of them are manipulating each other by virtue of getting angry, feeling hurt, being traumatized, needing space, or having differing opinions or feelings. Sam didn’t punch Dean in the face in 14.12 because he's a cruel, manipulative abuser trying to force Dean under his thumb. He didn’t work behind Dean’s back with Ruby, insist on doing The Trials, beg Dean to use Doc Benton’s alchemy, use the Book of the Damned to cure Dean, pump him full of blood to cure him of being a demon despite the fact that it might kill him, or scream at him and fight him for wanting to get in the Ma’lak box because he “doesn’t respect his autonomy” and “wants to control him” and “doesn’t respect his right to his own body”. He did it because he loves him desperately, and Dean could stand to fucking hate himself less, and he fiercely wanted Dean to live even when Dean didn’t want to or couldn’t picture what that could be like. He didn’t force Dean to do anything simply by opening his mouth to voice disagreement and swaying Dean when he did so. Now reverse that.

Cas didn't beat Dean into the ground in season 5 because he wanted to terrorize him into never going against Castiel ever again. He didn’t go behind his back dozens of times, sideline him, go MIA, all because he wanted to manipulate and control Dean and punish him. He didn’t throw sassy remarks at him to shatter his self-esteem. Now reverse that.

Henry was wrong thinking their conversation was the end of Kat's distant behaviour. Sure, it got better but she was still acting aloof and it was clear as day that she still couldn't see him as a friend. She treated him like a guest. Always polite and friendly but keeping her distance and neutrality. And that was the reason why he was really looking forward to tonight. It was Saturday and they were going to visit the city festival that took place every summer and that was a big event in the little town of St. Ives. Henry, Kat and Sam with his girlfriend Lydia, who was a delicate and very pretty black woman with an astonishing amount of energy, always in a good mood and wearing her heart on her sleeve. Henry immediately got why Kat liked her so much, when he met her for the first time a day after he moved in. She was funny and very smart, a real tough cookie but caring and warm-hearted, too. So it was going to be just the four of them and of course he was hoping for a chance to come a little closer to Kat in the relaxed atmosphere of the public party with some music and drinks. Maybe she was able to loosen up around him there.

When they arrived the festival was in full swing. The city was crowded with tourists and locals, smiling faces everywhere and the friends were in a good mood, too. Sam and Lydia were standing arm in arm and Kat was sure her brother had finally found his perfect match. She'd never seen him so in love before and she was genuinely happy for him. Henry went to a stall and came back with four glasses of beer, after he had taken a few selfies with some fangirls. Kat was wondering how he felt about this. About the fact that he got recognized although he was in St. Ives to escape all the media hype and all the pressure that it had put on him in the last years but he didn't seem to care. Maybe he's so used to it that it doesn't bother him, Kat thought, or he's just not showing it. "Cheers." Henry said, smiling at them, holding Kat's gaze a little longer than usual which made her nervous. "Cheers." They answered in unison and Kat started to look around. There were various stalls selling all kinds of stuff, from kitsch to unique art and she even spotted some carousels. The band that had been playing was just leaving the stage right in front of the harbour.

"Isn't that Elijah?" Sam nudged her and nodded at a stall a few meters away.

"Who?" Lydia craned her neck to take a look. "The inked guy?"

"Shit. Yes, that's him." Kat made a face and Henry turned around. There was only one inked guy. He was tall and buff, tattooed from head to toe - literally. He was young, 24 or 25 maybe, and very handsome, Henry had to admit that. Piercing blue eyes, a sharp jawline and high cheekbones, his black hair worn in a stylish undercut, dressed in ripped jeans and a simple white T-shirt.

"This is your fuck boy?" Lydia blurted out. Kat shushed her with an awkward grin. "He was my fuck boy. Past tense."

Henry felt his stomach twist in a strange mix of jealousy, anger and protectiveness.

"Damn, girl. You never mentioned he is that hot. I see why you didn't say no to him."

"Excuse me?" Sam looked at his girlfriend with a frown. "You don't even like tattoos?" Lydia laughed out loud and kissed him. "You're right, baby, he's gross."

"There he comes." Henry said looking at Kat who rolled her eyes.

"Heaven help." She muttered under her breath.

"Kat, good to see you." Ink guy hugged her before he eyed her up and down. "You look great."

"Hi. Thanks. You look good too." She smiled at him and there was an awkward pause until she cleared her throat to introduce him.

"Um, yeah, you know my brother Sam and this is his girlfriend Lydia." She pointed at them. "And here we have our new housemate Henry." She nodded at him and Henry flinched. Housemate. Not friend, just housemate.

"Guys, this is Elijah. We used to do Yoga together."

Elijah glanced at her before he put on a lewd smirk. "Yeah, let's call it Yoga." He raised his eyebrows and gave Kat a sexy wink.

"Speaking of which. I really miss our long and intense...Yoga exercises." He grinned. "I think about you a lot to get into the right mood, whenever I do Yoga...all alone. On my own. Almost every night."

Kat raised an eyebrow and returned his flirtatious smile. "I'm sure you don't have problems finding a new Yoga partner."

"No, I don't. I've tried it with a few. But it's hard to find someone as good as you. As flexible and experienced and passionate...about Yoga."

Kat was speechless for a moment and Elijah stepped closer and whispered loud enough for everyone to hear. "Maybe we can do a session tonight."

Kat looked him in the eyes, biting her bottom lip. "Yeah. Maybe. If I'm in the mood for Yoga later."

He grinned. "See you on the dance floor? The DJ's gonna start his show in a few."

"Sure." Kat nodded.

"Great. See ya, guys." He waved at them and strolled away with a swagger that annoyed Henry.

When he was out of earshot Sam laughed out loud.

"Fuck, sis. Did the guy just tell you, you're his wank-rag?"

Kat knitted her brows with an embarrassed grin. "Shut up, okay? I don't wanna hear anything about this. This conversation never happened." She blushed furiously and Henry would have loved to ask her about the story behind all this but he kept his mouth shut. It was none of his business. He was just the housemate.

It took Henry another four glasses of beer to find the courage to ask her about Mr. Ink anyway.

"So what's going on with you and...Elijah?" Henry faked nonchalance by giving her just a quick glance and a tiny smile.

"Nothing." Kat didn't even look at him. Instead she watched the dancing crowd in front of the stage.

"I see." Henry tried to shrug it off and took another sip of his beer. He knew he shouldn't drink so much but it helped him to loosen up.

"Do you really think it's good for you to drink so much when you're still on your meds?"

Henry wasn't surprised by her question. She had always taken care of him. She had always been his voice of reason.

"No. Actually I know it's a very bad idea."

"But you do it anyway. Some things never change." Kat turned to him, took his glass out of his hands and replaced it with her glass of coke. He accepted it with a lopsided grin and the look they shared when their hands touched for a second made his heart flutter.

"I had a fling with him last year." Kat finally explained. "We went to the same Yoga class and we started to...well...have sex. It only lasted a two months."

"Why did it end?"

"It got a little out of hand. Eli wanted more than booty calls but I didn't. I just wanted casual fucks…"

Henry looked at her with a frown. Of course she misinterpreted his expression.

"Don't you dare judge me, Cavill…" Her voice was tense.

"I don't judge you, Kat. Casual sex can be great, I know that. I'm just surprised. I mean, you used to be the romantic type…"

"Romance is dead, Henry." She tried to temper her words with a smile but he knew that look that crossed her eyes. A mixture of defiance and sadness, that indicated a topic that worried her though she wouldn't want to talk about it. "Kat…." He touched her arm and she flinched as if his hand was burning her. Kat gave Henry an apologetic smile. Shaking her head she took his hand and gave it a quick squeeze. "I'm fine." The way he looked at her -his head cocked, his gaze intense- made her skin tingle and so she quickly averted her eyes.

She constantly had to remind herself of their conversation a few days ago. She was willing to give it a try, to be friends with him again but she just wasn't able to shake off the past. And the mixed emotions she had just thinking about him weren't helpful as well. She was attracted to him more than she wanted to be and at the same time she couldn't stand being too close to him. Henry opened his mouth to say something but before he was able to do so Lydia took Kat by the hand and dragged her away. "Come on, Kat. Let's dance. I love this song."

Elijah found Kat on the dance floor after just five minutes. She seemed to be hesitant at first about dancing with him but after another five minutes she had given in and now Henry was watching them getting closer with every song, moving to the rhythm, Elijah was holding her very close, rubbing his body against hers and it looked pretty hot.

"The guy's got moves, huh?" Sam nudged Henry with a grin.

"Yeah." He couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"If you're so annoyed by him, why don't you do something about it?"

Henry looked at him with a frown. "What do you mean?"

"I mean you can go on watching them dry humping on the dancefloor with hungry eyes or you can go dance with Kat yourself."

Henry let out a snort.

"I don't think your sister wants to dance with me."

"You'll never know if you don't try."

Henry just grunted and tried to shrug it off but Sam didn't want to let him off the hook.

"Just go and dance with her."

"I don't know."

"Oh come on, Cavill. Don't be such a sissy."

"Where's the point, Sam. She hates me."

Sam shook his head. "She doesn't hate you."

"But she doesn't like me either." Henry wasn't convinced.

"She likes you more than she dislikes you." Sam replied cryptically. "Now, come on. Go and put this prick in his place." Sam took Henry's glass and gave him a little shove. "Go." Henry stumbled forward. "Go." Sam repeated. Henry rolled his eyes. "Fine. She thinks I'm an idiot anyway. Not a problem if I make a fool of myself."

Henry made his way through the dancing crowd and when he finally stood right beside them Kat noticed him with a surprised smile. She stopped moving and Elijah gave him an angry glance. "Sorry, but I have to cut in."

"You do?" Kat asked sarcastically. "I do. Sorry, mate." He took Kat's hand and pulled her away from Elijah.

"Fancy a dance?" He indicated a bow and gave her a wink.

Kat grinned and gave Eli an apologetic shrug before turning to Henry again.

"Why not. Show me your moves."

And so they danced. Not as sexy and close as she had danced with Mr. Ink but still. She seemed to be happy and enjoying his company and that was all Henry was asking for. He wasn't the best dancer but it felt okay after the first awkward moments and Kat even touched him from time to time. After the third uptempo song the DJ played a slow track and he pulled Kat closer. She hesitated for a brief moment but then she wrapped her arms around his neck and he held her by her waist. They swayed to the slow music, their bodies not touching but their eyes met and Henry was wondering if Kat's heart was racing as fast as his.

Kat's heart was indeed racing. So many years ago this had been all she'd ever wished for. To dance with him to a romantic song. To feel his hands on her body. To be close to him. But those teenage dreams belonged to the past. She didn't believe in the idea of everlasting love anymore. She had given up on waiting for 'the one' a long time ago. And even if she had this tiny spark of hope for finding true love remaining in the darkest corners of her mind, it couldn't be Henry, could it? Her heart and mind screamed no. No, woman, he broke your heart. Don't get too close to him. You're going to burn your fingers. Again. He's not the one for you. But her body said yes. Go for it, woman. You're attracted to him. You've yearned for him 22 years, now get what you're craving.

Kat started to panic when Henry's gaze got more and more intense. She felt like drowning in his ocean blue eyes and burning up in his body heat at the same time. She knew that warm, fluttery feeling in her belly that was caused by his smile and his touch too well and she wouldn't let this happen again. He might have tricked her once but she wouldn't let him trick her twice. No fucking way.

Kat let go of his neck and took a step back and he knew their dance was over. Elijah gladly took over again and all Henry could do was to quit the field.

When Kat came home the next morning she found Sam in the kitchen making scrambled eggs and bacon.

"Morning. That smells heavenly."

"Morning. Will be done in a minute if you want some."

"I'd love to. I'm starving."

Sam turned around with a smirk.

"Really? No morning-after-breakfast at Elijah's?"

Kat rolled her eyes. "I didn't want to stay any longer, it just makes things awkward."

"I see. Is this going to be a regular thing again? You and your toyboy?"

"No." Kat shook her head. "Definitely not. Where are Lydia and Henry?"

"Lydia has a bad hangover and Henry….well, I guess he's still asleep. He didn't feel well last night." Sam turned around and gave his sister a plate filled with eggs, bacon and a bagel. Kat looked at him with a frown. "How's that? He was fine when I left. Did he drink too much?"

"No, no, he just had water after you scolded him for drinking." Sam winked at her with a grin. Getting serious he sat down and looked at her. "He had some kind of panic attack. Just freaked out…"

"God, Sam. That's awful. What happened?" Kat looked at her brother with a stunned expression on her face.

"I don't really know. It began with some people that recognized him. He took photos with them, it didn't seem to be a problem but then more and more fans came and surrounded him and he did his best to be nice and fulfill all their requests, he signed shirts and took selfies, one girl wanted his signature on her bra, it was crazy and soon got out of hand. I could see the panic in his eyes although he did his best to hide it. He was so polite and kind although a drunk guy, I guess the boyfriend of one of his fans, started to insult him. But at some point his face turned so pale and his hands started to shake, I was afraid he was about to pass out."

"Oh my god." Kat was really worried, Sam could easily tell by the deep frown and the knitted brows. "What did you do?"

"I got him out of there. Lydia calmed down the remaining fans and told them he had the flu or something and we went home."

"What did Henry say? Was it his first panic attack?"

"He didn't say much, didn't really want to talk about it. He went straight to bed. It was horrible, Kat."

"Shit."

"Yeah. I thought I'd bring him breakfast later. Or maybe you want to do it?"

Sam looked at Kat while he was eating a piece of bacon.

"I don't know, Sam."

"He trusts you, Kat."

"You are his friend."

"I'm his mate, that's a difference."

"No, it's quibble. You and him are closer than me and him. Whatever you call it." Kat arched an eyebrow and gave her brother an annoyed glance.

"Oh, come on,you know how it is, Kat. Guys don't talk about emotional stuff like this…"

"Maybe I don't want to talk about emotional stuff with him either."

Sam gave her a knowing look. "Are you afraid you're gonna fall for him again?"

Kat blinked repeatedly, speechless for a moment.

"What are you talking about?" She crossed her arms in front of her chest. Sam leaned back in his chair. "Look, Kat, I know I was busy with my own love life at school but I wasn't completely blind. I know you were in love with Henry. You always denied it but it was obvious to me. I knew you were lying when you said he's just a friend to you and I know that your friendship ended out of the blue when Hen and Poppy became a thing. So it's not so hard to draw the conclusion that he broke your heart and that you're afraid that history is going to repeat itself."

Kat chewed on her bottom lip but she didn't say a word. She just shrugged and pulled off pieces of her bagel absent minded.

"I think he needs you, Kat. He needs what the two of you had at school. That deep, unconditional kind of friendship. I can't give him that, we're not close enough, but you can."

She looked at Sam with a frown.

"I'm not so sure. It's not that easy. What we had back then is gone."

"I'm sure it's not. It's just buried under your past. You can dig it out."

Kat closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose with a deep sigh. "I'm not a therapist."

"Good, because he has a therapist. What he doesn't have is someone who knows him like you do. Someone he can trust."

"Alright. I'll do it. I'm gonna bring him his breakfast and see if he wants to talk but I'm going to blame you if this ends in disaster."

okay, i once had a discord group which i miss sm rip where i shared some ideas from that AU so i’m basically gonna repeat them here now shsjs under the read more 👇

this AU includes both Maliks as siblings (+ Isis and Rishid ofc) and both Bakuras as siblings too. The two Yamis are the elder brothers of the non-Yamis so they also have their own name ofc.

For Yami Malik I’d go with Amir cause the name is beautiful and fits him somehow (it means ‘prince’ or ‘chief’). This AU is literally so self-indulgent where I can finally write Amir just how I picture him in my head as the funny himbo he is, who makes some creepy jokes at times but is generally a nice guy and is just constantly stoned sdfgskh

For Yami Bakura i haven’t thought of a name yet 🙃 He’s low key the protag and I still don’t have a name for him 👏 good work, Ziggy 👏 I was thinking about something that makes his initials still be YB so a name with Y actually (Yamato maybe ?) Everyone calls him Bakura/Bakura-kun anway and they mostly call Ryou “the little Bakura”/Bakura-chan (affectionately) since he is the little brother ahsksfsj

In this AU Amir and YB are like really close friends. They are classmates in their last year together and they are known for being trouble makers. But not just like Honda and Jounouchi in the anime - they are worse than that. They have risked being expelled many times and smoke on the school’s rooftops and even hang out with older guys who sell illegal shit and such (it’d be tw for drugs ofc). OH and lots of spray painting on public places 👊 They are really best buds and bonded over same interests and music taste and same hate for the society and family and such. This fanart was a major inspiration to write these two as high school best buddies.

YB is VERY overprotective over his little brother Ryou (who’s just two years younger than him, and just like Malik, starts his first high school year in Domino High School). He is literally responsible for raising him up because ever since they lost their mother and Amane (Ryou’s twin sister) at a very young age their father fell into a very deep depression and he’s constantly away “for work” and just generally neglects his two remaining sons. YB hates their father because of that so he has taken it as his own responsibility to make sure Ryou is always safe and protected and acts like the parent in their home (where there is usually just the two of them). Also, another self indulgent thing here: YB being an ass with everyone except for being an overprotective good big brother for Ryou 🥺 please! so cute!! (They ride a bike together on their way to school like this fanart)

The Ishtar’s parents are both dead. Their mother died when giving birth to the youngest one (Malik) and their father died under very tragic circumstances (still gotta think how 🤔 it definitely wasn’t Amir tho’) and they used to have a very abusive household thus why Amir HATES their dad. Contrary to Malik, who keeps saying he deserved a second chance and was a good father and wishes he could have made him proud ~ this always makes Amir and Malik fight amongst other things and this is what also bonds Amir and YB so much: the hate for their old man.

It would be a very psychological AU that deals with a lot of issues and shit and traumas the boys have to live with + adding all the typical teenage angst at that age so it’s CHAOS. and I’d also have the perfect soundtrack/playlist for it 💆‍♀️ (it would be set in the 90s)

Since it’s Malik’s first year in domino high school he wants to be recognised as one of the “cool kids” and befriend the older boys from the class. he just hates it that his big brother (Amir) is always there as well. Compared to the Bakuras these two have much more of a turbulent kind of relationship going on as siblings, where they constantly fight and Amir says Malik “ruined” the family whenever their fights get harsher and Malik says father never loved him anyway. Isis and Rishid try to keep the family and the boys under control as young adults but it’s hard 😔

YB visits the Ishtars sometimes to hang out with Amir in his room where they listen to music, smoke weed, and play PS and such and this is when Malik “spies” on YB. he thinks his big brother’s friend looks so cool with his ripped jeans and eyeliner and black nail polish. One night YB and Amir are smoking weed in Amir’s room and playing PS when Malik would use the chance. He’d piss Amir off and tell him it’s his turn to take the trash out on purpose to make him leave his room. Ofc Amir says no but then Malik “threatens” him with “I will tell sister you smoke weed if you don’t take the trash out”. And so Amir leaves (slamming the door behind him like an unruly teenager and saying he’s gonna kill Malik) and leaves a stoned YB alone in his room. And this is when Malik uses the chance to be alone with a very confused and very stoned YB who wonders why Amir’s little brother seems to be so interested in him sdfghjkl and yea this is basically their first encounter.

Malik has basically a kind of obvious “fangirl crush” for YB but the latter is so confused why and what he even sees in him. Because for him there’s nothing “cool” in skipping school and breaking the rules, it’s just the only thing he knows. But for Malik this is the coolest shit he’s ever seen.

Malik befriends Ryou (who is in his same class and school year) out of convenience ofc cause he wants to get closer to YB. Yes Malik is a lil bitch in this AU. And Ryou is like extremely nice and polite, he’s the weird silent kid who doesn’t have a lot of friends and lives in his own world. He falls victim to bullies a lot and YB also keeps that rough facade to make sure no one messes with him. Ryou befriends Malik and tries to answer all of the weird, intimate questions he has of his big brother...

One night I, like, imagined a scenario where Amir and YB are out spray-painting a wall behind the station with some other thugs and Malik and Ryou followed them secretly (it was all Malik’s plan) even if Ryou was totally contrary to the idea. Once they see the guys have drugs and alcohol Ryou wants to leave, but Malik says this is exactly what makes it exciting and joins them without warning. When Amir and YB see Malik they panic, wondering what he is doing here. Amir gets particularly pissed off and wants to just leave. ofc YB tells him he can’t just leave his young brother alone in a place like this with people like that. But Amir ignores him (and this will lead to one of the first big fights between the two best buddies 😔 they will punch each other. I told you it will have a lot of angst)

Anyway at the end Amir leaves and YB is decent enough to bring both Ryou and Malik home but then Malik insits on wanting to crash at their place. So YB is like “i guess??” And they spend the night together at the Bakura’s place :) YB takes the couch and leaves his bed for Malik to sleep in but Malik will have none of that ofc sgksksj

Okay sorry for boring you, I could go on forever with so many scenarios of this AU or like actually sit down and write it... and yea.. that’s it.... just angsty and misunderstood boys in a shitty society with shitty parents trying to find a sense with their lives 🥺

A: Asthma

maybe she says, as if I wouldn't be ALL OVER this concept with my grubby lil hands XD

as someone with asthma myself (though not nearly as bad as Choro's, I only have a rescue inhaler and am not on any maintenance medication for it) I drew on my own experiences and maybe intensified them a little to make my boy suffer!

leans a bit toward allergies being a big trigger for Choro, but other stuff as well! (I'm just an allergy whore, allergies and asthma often show up as a duet, and allergies can be a significant asthmatic trigger)

... and as someone who also suffers from anxiety, definitely the bits about working oneself up into making an asthma attack worse because of anxiety are as real as it gets, babes, I can testify 😎

anyways this is kinda Allmatsu but definitely has a Wakaba spin because I haven't written Wakaba in a while!

As it stands, Choromatsu’s asthma at the moment could be so much worse than it is, and he’s grateful for that.

After all, especially during his last year of high school and the year immediately following, it was bad. A high pollen count could have him taking hits from his rescue inhaler off and on for the entire day thanks to his allergies, even while hiding indoors. A particularly vigorous exercise during physical education could throw him into an asthma attack so bad it led to an anxiety attack because he couldn’t breathe. It’s taken a few years of using a maintenance inhaler, and some work trying to avoid excessive amounts of his triggers, but finally it’s less intense than it used to be.

Getting it under control has made life so much easier. He can go outside without worrying too much about the pollen. He can tolerate Ichimatsu’s cats in the house. Cold air doesn’t freeze his lungs. The linger of cigarette smoke when he hugs his father doesn’t leave him coughing for the rest of the day. He can run short distances and not be paranoid about having trouble breathing afterwards. He doesn’t have to panic that a simple cold will literally take his breath away.

The most problematic thing is that there is such a concept as the perfect storm, and it seems that Choromatsu is overdue to be suffering.

He knew the pollen count was high when he woke up to most of his brothers sneezing, as well as doing some himself. No big deal, Mom made sure they all got some allergy medicine at breakfast, and most of the time it does the trick. It’s probably the wind blowing pollen around, making them all a little miserable.

Thankfully, though, everyone is feeling much better by lunch, although it starts to rain without much warning. The house feels icy; although the rain is more a gentle storm than an outright downpour, the temperature has dropped a bit. All the brothers start to shiver, so once they’ve eaten, all of them except Ichimatsu gravitate toward the spare room. A chilly, rainy day means they all snuggle up with each other, watch movies, and probably doze off.

Ichimatsu, on the other hand, slips out briefly to check on his cats in the alley. He pulls his hood up and says he’ll be back in like twenty minutes; his deadpan delivery of, “Start the movie and I’ll be back before anything important happens” makes them chuckle, because, well, that’s Ichimatsu.

Despite the fact that he hasn’t been feeling too badly up until now, the cold air is starting to creep into Choromatsu’s chest. Being hit with this and hayfever is like a double whammy for his asthma, so his hope is that if he warms up a little, he might be able to avoid feeling worse.

He can’t help the anxiety that starts to kick in as he settles in under a couple blankets with Jyushimatsu. How long has it been since the last time he had an asthma attack? Months,he’s pretty sure. Maybe a year or more since he had one that was bad enough to scare him.

Shit… where’s my rescue inhaler…?

Obviously he took his daily dose from the maintenance inhaler this morning, as he does every morning, to lessen the likelihood of an attack. However, he still has the prescription for his rescue inhaler, though, just in case he does have an attack.

And although he puts the rescue inhaler in his pocket when he leaves the house, when he’s just hanging around inside, he doesn’t keep it on his person. It’s probably in the drawer of the bedside table in their bedroom, he thinks. He wasn’t out in town or anything yesterday, so he didn’t take it out. He didn’t even think about touching it yesterday… so… it should be there.

He tries his best to shove those thoughts down. It doesn’t matter where his rescue inhaler is, because he’s not going to need it, because he’s not going to have an asthma attack. All he needs is to calm down and not get himself worked up about it. Getting anxious makes everything a million times worse. He just… needs to cuddle up and let his little brother’s body heat seep into him. Once he’s warm, the tightness in his chest will go away and everything will be fine.

So he leans toward Jyushimatsu, who laughs before pressing himself in against Choromatsu. “Choromatsu-nii-san! Osomatsu-nii-san found that old rom-com you used to really like in high school! We wanna watch that first!”

“O-oh…” … Oh. He remembers that movie being incredibly cheesy, no matter how sweet it seemed when he was a hopeless teenager daydreaming of true love. Still, if everyone else wants to watch it, who is he to say no? “Yeah, that… that sounds good. Here, let’s just try to get comfortable…”

A string of coughs escapes as he puts an arm around Jyushimatsu. It’s not that bad, it doesn’t feel like he can’t breathe… he’ll feel better when he gets warmer. It makes him wince a bit all the same.

“Aaah?” Jyushimatsu is only too happy to nuzzle into the contact, but he tilts his head up. “Hey?? Are you okay, Choromatsu-nii-san? Are you getting sick?”

He quickly shakes his head and swallows. “No, no… I-I’m fine. Sorry. The cold air is just, you know, m-making my chest feel a little tight.”

His little brother immediately rubs his head against Choromatsu’s chest, as if that’s going to be any help at all. “Do you need your backup inhaler thing? I can go get it!”

“No… I-I think I’ll be okay. Don’t worry, Jyushimatsu.” He has to admit, though, having someone so close feels nice. “Just… help me warm up, haha.”

And of course, the eager-to-please fifth eldest takes the job very seriously. He cozies up to Choromatsu almost like an affectionate puppy, and one of his arms slips around to pat his older brother’s back.

It makes Choromatsu feel slightly better; at the very least, a little more relaxed. Sometimes if he can keep his anxiety down and he doesn’t whip himself into a frenzy, a potential asthma attack flickers out of existence before it even happens.

So he tries to breathe normally, focusing on that and the movie to distract him from the anxiety. Almost as soon as it starts, he finds that he can practically recite every line verbatim. Wow, how many times did I watch this in high school?? Like every afternoon? As silly as it is, he actually enjoys it just as much as he did when he was younger ― it’s almost like a comfort film.

Just as the plot is starting to get underway, the door to the room opens. In comes Ichimatsu… carrying ESP Kitty. “Hey, guys. ESP Kitty’s gonna camp out here for the night. I think he wants to be inside with us.”

“Woooow, you can tell??” Jyushimatsu marvels at that, clearly impressed by what he might think of as Ichimatsu ‘speaking cat’, rather than Ichimatsu just wanting one of his favorite cats inside while it’s raining. “Come sit by us, then! I wanna pet him!”

Ichimatsu shrugs before coming over and sitting next to Jyushimatsu. As soon as he does, ESP Kitty mewls and hops into Jyushimatsu’s blanket-covered lap. He starts to pet the cat enthusiastically, rubbing between his ears and giggling when it earns him a happy purr.

The fourth eldest turns to the screen, then scoffs as he reaches for a handful of popcorn. “Told you I’d be back before anything important happened. Is this that dumb scene with the roses and shit?”

“I-it’s not dumb,” Choromatsu huffs, if only to cover up his mounting panic. The pollen he could deal with. Even the cold air would probably be okay. But pollen, cold air, and a cat sitting less than 20 centimeters away from him? He was already starting to feel a bit out of breath before ESP Kitty joined them; he can’t imagine this is going to go any way other than bad.

“Tch, whatever. No accounting for taste, I guess.” Ichimatsu pauses. “… Uh. Cold air getting to you?”

Choromatsu frowns, suddenly feeling self-conscious. Is his breathing starting to get audibly crappy? “Um… that and… and allergies.”

“Mh.” It doesn’t seem to hit Ichimatsu why his brother chose to say allergies instead of hayfever. “They were bugging me earlier too. Do you need someone to go get your inhaler?”

“No… i-it’s not that bad right now.” Why is he even saying that? Why can’t he just ask Ichimatsu to move ESP Kitty out of the room because he’s worried that a triple threat is going to trigger an asthma attack? Why is he like this?

Why don’t any of the others realize just how bad this day has been for his stupid lungs? Is it just because none of them have asthma so they don’t think about it like he does? Even Jyushimatsu, who was the first one to notice that Choromatsu might be having a flare-up, seems not to recognize that having a cat so close in addition to the other things is going to be a problem.

Now that the anxiety has come back for an encore, and there’s one more added trigger in the mix, he doesn’t really last too long. He does his best to lean back a bit from Jyushimatsu in an attempt to put distance between himself and ESP Kitty… and it doesn’t work, predictably. Allergies and asthma don’t work like that, and anxiety especially doesn’t work like that.

His chest starts to feel tight again. Another handful of coughs is muffled into the crook of his elbow. When he tries to breathe, it’s beginning to feel like he’s trying to breathe through a straw. It’s like something heavy is sitting on his chest, refusing to let his lungs get a good breath in.

None of his insistence that it’s not going to happen, none of his efforts to divert his attention, work anymore. Gradually it becomes harder and harder to draw any air in. Even though he’s getting better at having power over his anxiety, that mental strength just doesn’t apply when it comes to allergies and asthma.

All things being equal, he’s pretty helpless in the face of an impending asthma attack. It’s not something he can ‘talk himself down’ from like he sometimes can with an anxiety attack.

What gets his brothers’ attention is likely the sound of Choromatsu coughing even more, coupled with the sound of him wheezing as he tries desperately to get a decent breath in. The wheezing is a sound that, as soon as they hear it, throws them all into high-alert mode, because it’s the hallmark of him having trouble breathing.

Being so close, Jyushimatsu notices it first, giving a couple of pats to Choromatsu’s back. His initial line of thought is probably that it might be just a brief coughing fit from the cold air or getting a tickle in his throat or something; a few firm thumps to the back usually helps clear something like that. Not this time. “Choromatsu-nii-san!! You’re having trouble breathing?”

It’s hard to talk, but he manages to get out a quiet, squeaky answer of, “Y-yeah, I… think I’m… h-having an asthma attack…” More coughing follows, and he’s willing his lungs to get something in, anything, anything better than this. It feels like as soon as he takes a breath he’s taking another, and another, and another, like his own body is trying to smother him.

That’s when everyone else turns almost comically in sync to look at him. Those are the words that always make the rest of his brothers sit up and take notice, “I’m having an asthma attack,” especially when he struggles to even say them.

Once it’s clicked for the others, Ichimatsu is quick to get to his feet, grabbing ESP Kitty from Jyushimatsu’s lap. “Shit, Choromatsu… I forgot you’re allergic. Let me move ESP Kitty downstairs.”

“Where’s your emergency inhaler?” Osomatsu is up in an instant as well, heading for the door along with Ichimatsu. “Do you have it? Or is it in the drawer in the bedroom?”

Still wheezing, and starting to panic a little, all Choromatsu can do is nod. “In… in the drawer…”

More coughs bubble up as his airway tightens more. His eyes are starting to water, and through a film of tears he can see Karamatsu following the others. “Drinking ice water helps you sometimes too, right? I’ll go get a glass.”

“Y… yeah… okay…”

Every word is like a gamble, because speaking uses up precious air that he’s not getting enough of right now. It feels like his lungs are barely pulling anything in, like something is compressing his chest. It’s almost like drowning on dry land.

“Aaaah, Choromatsu-nii-san…” He thinks Totty is up as well now, going for the door. “I think I read somewhere that caffeine can help asthma symptoms! Karamatsu-nii-san is bringing ice water, but, I’ll go make some coffee for you too.”

Everyone is trying so hard to help him, and frustratingly enough is that Choromatsu can’t really help himself. If he had his inhaler right here in his pocket or something, he could have used it as soon as he started having real trouble breathing. Instead, he hasn’t had a severe attack in so long, he got a little complacent. He forgot that it could bethis bad.

Jyushimatsu has taken his hoodie off, leaving him in just a plain white T-shirt, seeming to understand that if he wants to be near Choromatsu right now, he needs to ditch the clothing with cat hair all over it. “Aaah, Choromatsu-nii-san…?? It’s okay… Osomatsu-nii-san is gonna be back with your inhaler in a couple seconds! It’s gonna be okay!”

By this point Choromatsu can feel his face starting to turn red from the effort it’s taking to get half a breath in. He can’t stop coughing. His chest hurts. Every almost-breath ends with noisy wheezing.

He’s glad Jyushimatsu is here and trying to keep him from getting any more panicky, at least… if he works himself into an anxiety attack over not being able to breathe, it’s going to turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. He doesn’t stay calm and the only thing he can look forward to is a trip to the hospital.

Just as he’s closing his eyes and leaning in against Jyushimatsu, there’s a clamor of frantic footsteps coming back into the room. For whatever reason, even through the oxygen-deprived haze and anxiety, he can tell they belong to his oldest brother. “I got it! Choromatsu! Shit… how does this thing work, again? I just put it in his mouth and push down on the top??”

“No… there’s a cap on it, nii-san, you have to take that off. And you have to shake it up first. Mmmmm, here, lemme do it! I got it, I got it.” There’s a telltale pop, the rattling of the inhaler being shaken, then Choromatsu feels himself being jostled around a bit. “Here, Choro-nii-san. We got your medicine, so open up!”

Before he can even really focus on doing so, the mouthpiece of the inhaler is pressed between his lips. “Okay, I’m gonna press down on the top, and when I do that, try to breathe in!”

Choromatsu can recall doing this countless times throughout his last year of high school, and the year after, and frequently in the years following. It’s practically second nature to inhale as deeply as he can as soon as he feels the aerosolized medication mist into his mouth.

With some level of practiced perfection, he holds his breath as long as he can, letting the medicine travel its way down to his lungs. One puff is usually sufficient to open things up enough so he no longer feels like he’s in danger of suffocating. He feels his face getting a bit less red and hot, and he’s able to gasp in a nearly complete breath.

Osomatsu’s hand is rubbing his back gently. “How’s that, Choro? Can you breathe okay?”

He nods, taking in another breath. Thank God, the tightness is starting to go away a little bit. “B… better. Oh, my God.” Several more coughs force their way out, and he weakly reaches up to take his inhaler from Jyushimatsu. “H-here… I think I can… do it myself now. Pretty sure I… I need another hit.”

“Okay!” The inhaler is carefully shoved into his hand, and even though he’s said he can do it himself, Jyushimatsu tries to help raise his hand up to his mouth. It makes Choromatsu chuckle a little, which turns into another couple of coughs.

With that, the process repeats, breathing in the medicine with the second puff. As soon as it hits his lungs, he starts feeling much better.

Around that time is when Karamatsu returns, sitting down in front of them and handing over a glass that’s probably more ice than water. “Ah,thank goodness you got your medication, brother. Here… drink this, it should help even more.”

“Thanks, Kara.” His hands are always a bit shaky after using the rescue inhaler, some side effect, so he’s cautious as he brings it to his lips to drink. “I-I didn’t mean to scare you guys…”

Osomatsu shifts his hand up to run through Choromatsu’s hair, while Jyushimatsu takes over rubbing his back. “What the hell even happened? You haven’t had an attack like that in a long time. Was it ‘cause the pollen count is high today? Then you should’ve felt better after we took our allergy meds…”

“But then it got really cold when it started raining,” Jyushimatsu points out. “The cold air was bothering him.”

Karamatsu hums. “And then Ichimatsu brought ESP Kitty inside, sitting very close to Choromatsu.”

Jyushimatsu nuzzles against Choromatsu’s shoulder. “Three strikes and nii-san’s out!”

“Oof, that’s right,” Osomatsu pouts. “No wonder you had an attack with all that going on. Sorry we didn’t notice sooner.”

Choromatsu shakes his head and goes to take another hit from the inhaler. He’s really only supposed to do it twice, but he uses it so rarely, the doctor has told him a third puff if he thinks he needs it is okay as long as he doesn’t make a habit of it. “Y-you don’t have to be sorry. I was… starting to feel a little short of breath after lunch, but… I didn’t say anything. I-I didn’t think it was that bad.”

He takes another few sips of the water, sighing in relief when he feels like he can breathe almost totally fine again. “I… should have gone to get my inhaler… when my chest started to feel tight. Then Ichimatsu came in with ESP Kitty and… that k-kind of… pushed everything over the edge. But I… I think I’m okay now.”

“Do you need us to do anything else?” Jyushimatsu moves around so he can lie down in his big brother’s lap. “We’ll take really good care of you!”

He laughs softly, and feels his anxiety quiet down to a low murmur in the background when it doesn’t make him cough. “No… that’s okay. I-I feel a lot better. Totty’s making some coffee, and that should help keep me from having another attack. Plus I’ll keep my inhaler close, just in case.”

With that, he tucks the inhaler into his pocket and sets a hand against Jyushimatsu’s head, leaning his own on Osomatsu’s shoulder. “Thanks. Once Ichimatsu and Totty are back… h-how about we just finish the movie? It’s, um… almost to the really good part, so we should… rewind it a little.”

Jyushimatsu offers one of his typical boisterous laughs. “Ahahah! Choromatsu-nii-san is back to normal!”

“Y-yeah…” Choromatsu scrapes up a smile of his own and takes another sip of water. “Thanks to you guys.”
