Update as of 7/4/24: I'll be lurking on tumblr every once in a while, but otherwise I don't know when I'll be properly active. Easter went... well, a spiked cement ball to the face would've been far more preferable.

Call me Aranea or Ara, a 22 yr old Aussie gal who is ever so slowly working on her novels. Not picky on what pronouns you use for me. I've been writing since I was 14, and been on and off tumblr just as long.

Have a part time job, volunteer at Vinnies, and working on a cert IV. Also practice witchcraft.

Current interests: Dragon Age, Dragons Dogma, Mass Effect, Skulduggery Pleasant, and Vampyr. I also play the Sims 4, so might even post some of my characters that way.

Favourite genres: Fantasy, horror, paranormal, science fiction, and historical.

Monstrum (Which, yes, is loosely based on my fanfic under the same name) A God who never wanted to be a God, sea elves, sapphic dwarven Goddess, polyamory is pretty much the norm, cursed tome that exploded a temple, MC works out he's a transman... What more could you want? Oh wait, there's one more thing: son of God who died multiple times and came back wrong each time, is currently possessing MC's meant-to-be-dead mother! Oops.

Quondam

Takes place centuries before Monstrum, when The Maker was only a sorcerer who wanted a better world... and now deals with the consequences of taking over as Sovereign of the World. Surely she can change her world without destroying it?

Crash landing on a unknown planet, memories wiped... The A.I. with corrupted data, known as Thio, calls them Viator, but is that their name? Or a title? The only thing Viator knows is that they were thrown into a black hole... and now have a ship to fix, and to find civilisation.

Do you have any unpublished stories in the planning stages? I recall one where you planned an Izuku Villain AU and another that I think combined Quirkless Hero Melissa and Hatsume for All?

You're thinking of Steel and Iron, that Hatsume for All x Iron Melissa combo fic I've toyed around with before which may or may not see the light of day.

Another one inspired by an ask game purely because of the crack potential is Papa Kurogiri's Villain Daycare, where Eri accidentally turned everyone in the League into young children except Kurogiri, who was restored to Shirakumo and is now in way over his head.

More recently, there's Monstrum, which started as "What if Midoriya's Quirk was Phyrexian oil but I changed nothing about his personality?" which has some fun character design shenanigans.

I also might write something for Pokemon Legends Arceus based on a joke I came up with for the protagonist. See, that game is a time-travel isekai, but it stays vague about anything your character knows from the future so I thought it would be hilarious if they weren't from the future but also a world where the Pokemon franchise does not exist and they now have to adapt to this nonsense.

Echo the Monster, Echo the Human

I love 'Monstrum', and I always get excited when they include the more sci-fi aspects of horror.

This more recent inclusion is fantastic:

It's as if it was custom made for our sweet member of Clone Force 99.

Never forget how, even rescued by Rex, Echo never felt like he truly belonged back amongst the other regular clones. He had to follow the deviant clones of CF99, until duty and personal honor demanded that he help his regular brothers once more...a development that was amazing to watch in season 2, episode 14's opening (which, IMHO, was the most Star Wars-y of a Star Wars show that has ever existed, from dope space battle to TK troopers eating it to the Empire's theme coming out of nowhere).

Echo literally followed the exact pattern expected of a cyborg's journey in our collective concepts. He went through a terrifying experience, briefly lost his humanity, and struggles to fit in after he is partially made machine. Only when he goes back to help others does he shed this self conscious. He chooses his humanity, and does not wither into the machine part of himself.

His journey follows the same pattern as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker's...but rather then continue on his own personal journey of either power or wisdom, he goes right back to serving his brothers, his collective family, in perhaps the most selfless journey imaginable for anyone who is part man and machine in this galaxy.

Echo may, quite literally be, the most pure human in this series.

Not bad for someone who was raised in a lab, cloned with millions, and then turned into a partial machine.

credo seems to value strength a lot and he tends to be a bit of a show off when it comes to his own strength and abilities

it might seem odd that a guy like him ended up falling for someone as weak as you, who failed as a knight and had to work at a bar instead

but perhaps this was what drew credo to you in the first place

sure, he likes to get into fights and find a strong opponent, but not necessarily when it comes to the person he's dating

he doesn't view you as a sparring partner or someone to pick a fight with. he just likes you for who you are, not your strength

besides, it's refreshing to have someone that is so different from him and introduces him to other things that aren't fighting or drinking!

whether you show him how to sew, cook or play an instrument, credo is eager to see what you can do that isn't fighting!

It will never not be hard to explain how Monstrums...are??? Like as a species what animal they are because it's never as simple as Sourpuss being a cat or Bitterbat being a bat or Redhot being a bull.

Sourpuss has catlike features but they also have other animal behaviours like squirrels and kangaroos. but they also are a sphinx but also the Cheshire cat but also the embodiment of rawr XD internet culture and sour candy and-the list goes on and on.

Monstrums aren't a "So this character is this animal" as much as they are "this character is this creature, often mythical but cranked to 100 with stuff I think is cool"

Because Monstrums are basically monsters and monsters, for us humans, are things we don't understand. Mythical creatures are the biggest influence on Monstrums and they are basically the products of humans not knowing what the fuck is entirely in our reality.

And Monstrums are meant to be built off the stereotypical monster idea where they hide under beds or in the dark or in your closet. Because that's like one of the first times we encounter the unknown as kids and our fear is personified into some creature we don't know.

I even revamped their elemental magic so instead of it being stuff we know like earth or wind or fire it's more abstract concepts like Bitterbat's element is fear.

Because Monstrums are also very emotion themed. It's how Lord Vile weaponized human emotions to create Vents.

But so much of this stuff is very much hard to explain to someone because the rules are so loose for the sole purpose I can make whatever character design I want to fit into Glitter and Guilt to serve a purpose. Similar to how there is no limit for what type of heroes or villains are in story because once again, I don't want to be held back from any potential designs that might be fun to put into a story plot point.

Anyways, Monstrums are hard to explain but a cheat code to them is that if they look like a specific animal, they def got more going on than just that animal.
