Michelle parked her car and had her hands resting on the wheels, eyes glossed over as she stared at her home. There was liquid that was stuck in the crevasses of her palms from driving, and she was overstimulated beyond anything. “Yeah, it’s just me.” The shuffling fell on deaf ears as she focused on tearing off her watch before she shoved her forearms under the warm water, brown and crimson dripped off her skin as she father leaned against the counter.

“Everythin’ okay, luv?”

“Hm? Yeah, just grand.” William hummed.

“And why don’t I believe you?” Michelle paused, water steadily hitting her limbs but not moving.

“I just…ran into trouble.” He clicked his tongue at his daughter and handed her a kitchen towel. With a weak hand she grabbed it from him, not turning to him fully. Her heart was in her throat as she was thinking about how to get upstairs without him seeing the front of her clothing. His footsteps made her sigh inwardly as he walked away, though it was only to turn on the kitchen light.

Fuck.

“What kind of trouble, dear?” Michelle grabbed the edge of the kitchen sink, reddened and raw knuckles draining of color. Her knees felt stiff yet faint at the same time as she wracked and wracked her mind for an excuse—no, a reason.

“Michelle, I’m listening.” His tone switched as if he was speaking to a younger version of her, powerful tutting.

“Don’t freak out.” The statement made him raised his eyebrows but not his dull facial expression. Michelle spat the cigarette bud into the sink and slowly swiveled to face her dad. On her cheek and the burnt amber sweater she wore, a merlot color splattered on the collar and over the top of the article of clothing. She expected a shocked or horrified expression, but he merely gazed at his daughter calmly. Lie.

“T-This guy came up to me when I was walking, and um…wouldn’t go away and I just…”

Michelle had her fists bawled as she briskly sped down the street to her car, smoke on her breath as the cooled air tried to bite at her. A figure bumped into her and she turned on her heel, grabbing the nearest limb of the guy and threw him into an alley. This young woman saw red and not anything else.

“Hey! W-What the hell, lady—” WHTSK. As his face was twisted to the side from the blow, Michelle pushed him onto the ground and threw punch after punch at this guy. A grunt or two escaped the woman but her mind was a mess of grief and fury. BAM. BAM. BAM. All the confused anger from the death of her siblings, how her mother left when Elizabeth died, the bickering between her father and Michael constantly. The coldness of her father yet the overprotective nature he placed on her like a shackle.

BAM.

The man’s face was almost unrecognizable. His eye swollen shut, face blotchy and nose obviously broken with blood leaking out of various spots on his face. It shimmered in the shitty lit alley on Michelle’s fists and her own cheekbones, yet she persisted.

She intertwined her fingers above her head and swung down as hard as she could onto the body. A sickening squelch and crack emitted from the skull, and then laid still.

Michelle blinked, shifting her eyes to look at what she did. Her stomach churned as her eyes widened and she stood up over the body. A gasp left her lips as her anger simmered, her becoming conscious of what just occurred.

She pinched in between her eyes, still smelling a metallic odor on her fingers. The other hand stabilized her against the sink counter.

“And I…I just couldn’t stop.” Michelle rubbed at her eyes, feeling them sting with stupid tears. William became internally giddy but feigned a somber look, as any father would do. But, William was not a normal parent.

“Did he hurt you?” She shook her head, staring past her father’s head. He sighed, placing his hand on her shoulder and was almost eye-to-eye with his daughter.

“…No. But, I hurt him.” William saw the gleam in her eyes and steadily brought her to him, cradling her like a child.

“Tha’s alright, luv.” Michelle stood, fists at her side.

“Dad, I think…I think I killed him.” He tensed for a second, then grabbed her head gently.

“And tha’s alright too, Mich.” The smile he gave he made her fall into a pit of uneasiness, as a statement formed in her cracked mind:

Trough the years, YN and Michael became best friends. Bestest of friends. Each of them thought of the other as absolutely irreplaceable, they always sticked together, trough good and bad times.

And that stayed even trough the hardships of high school - if anything, their bond grew even stronger. Everyone, at some point, thought they were a couple.

And honestly.. that would be completely fine with Michael, considering how much he fell for YN, even if he didn't seem to really understand it. He always saw the stolen glances and lingering stares as something completely.. normal and platonic. He never really considered that he fell in love. Probably because the poor baby boy has never been in love before.

But there was someone else who noticed.. And it was no one other than William Afton, Michael's father.

The first time Michael invited YN over was when they still were in elementary school, and it was because they were working on a project together.

It somehow happened that YN stayed overnight, and William found her sleeping on the floor, on a matress, in the morning.

He didn't have the problem with them sleeping over, he had a problem with Michael letting his guest sleep on the floor.

Despite some of Michael's complains, she found "mr. Afton" to be a very kind and polite man.

YN quickly got used to William's company, and she became a regular guest at Aftons' household.

Though as time passed by, William started noticing Michael's odd behavior. How he stared at her, how he fixed his hair whenever he was about to open the door for YN, and how nervous he was getting sometimes!

Well, about the 'staring'..

It was evident that trough the few years that passed YN has.. developed, as every young woman her age. Though, what William found quite pleasing, she didn't seem to feel the need to show off as some girls did. Her casual behavior and way of being made William appreciate the girl as his guest.

Also Michael changed quite a bit. And, as his father put it, he didn't sound like a "dying seagull" anymore.
