LESLIE HIII i hope you’re doing okay!! + sorry it’s taken me so long to stop by </3
as a request i wanted to ask abt the prompt “stay there. i’m coming to get you.” from the second prompt list with either minghao or wonwoo if that’s okay!! 🫶🫶
A/N: OKAY SO @wqnwoos I know this was requested forever ago from a prompt game and I'm so sorry it took so long, but I was super inspired yesterday after I saw ur post saying "my heel broke" and I messaged u asking if you were okay because OMG your HEEL broke are you OKAY??? but turns out you meant your shoe broke not your actual heel and, well... here we are. Whatever the heck this is.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Wonwoo x Reader Genre: slight crack?, established relationship Rating: PG (only because I think there's a swear?) Word Count: 1.4k Request Prompt: "stay there. i'm coming to get you." Warnings: like one kiss?, I think there's swearing maybe, expensive things being broken if that triggers u, also reader wears heels
Tumblr media
You can't believe it.
So many times, you’d gazed longingly at the expensive new shoes you’d splurged on, sitting pretty in their box, wondering when you’d finally pluck up the courage to wear them. You weren’t one for spending big unless it was technology or something you’d use often, but you’d been eyeing these heels for what felt like forever. When your birthday rolled around, you’d finally done it, but then they’d sat in their box for months – until tonight.
You’d only just arrived at the restaurant to meet your friends when you’d taken one wrong step, and the heel on your right shoe had broken completely off. You’d tripped and thankfully been steadied by your friend’s arm, so you’d been left physically unscathed… but you felt the pain elsewhere. In your wallet. How the hell had that happened so quickly?
Your friend managed to fish a pair of flats out from their trunk, so you were grateful for that at least. You tried to laugh and play it off as a joke, as a funny story to remember with your friends in a few years, but truthfully? You were pretty bummed. You’d saved for those shoes for ages. So here you sat, nursing a glass of water as you listened to your friends chat animatedly around you. You were having a good time, you were, but you couldn’t help but wallow in your feelings just a little bit. You really couldn’t believe your luck.
You felt the buzz of your phone from inside your purse, eyeing it as you took another sip of water, before glancing around the table. Your friend group had a rule not to be on your phones very much when you were together, but you figured you were safe to have a quick peek while your friend recapped her many failed dates over the last month.
Wonwoo ❤️: how’s your evening going?
You felt your heart jump a little at the sight of your boyfriend’s name on your screen. You wondered if that would ever change, but you didn’t think so. You adored him. You’d been told the honeymoon phase would pass, but it had been well over a year and the two of you were still going strong. Wonwoo would object if you ever said it to anyone else, but the two of you were just as lovey-dovey as when you’d first started dating.
Exhibit A: him texting you to ask a very obvious question. You’re pretty well-versed in Wonwoo, and you know what his text actually means: it means that he misses you.
YN: not the best, tbh… I broke my heel 😭
The reply comes not even a minute later.
Wonwoo ❤️: are you okay??
YN: I’m so sad 😭
You jump a little when your friend nudges you with their foot, raising their eyebrows pointedly at your phone. You teasingly roll your eyes and oblige, sliding your phone back into your purse and tuning back into your friends’ story. You can’t help but feel a bit better after a couple of texts from Wonwoo, and you aren’t embarrassed about it in the slightest.
Not even a half hour and some entrees later, another friend is in the process of regaling tales about her horrific boss when the door to the restaurant opens, and you spot him. You do a double take as your eyes meet, your eyebrows furrowing in confusion, and he seems to freeze in place for a second.
You take in the sight of your boyfriend: his glasses are askew, his hair disheveled, and you think he must have thrown on whatever hoodie and sweats combo he could find laying around in a hurry. He hovers by the door as he stares at you, blinking, and your mind begins to race. Why is he here? Is everything okay? Wonwoo is never one to draw attention to himself if he can help it – which just makes this whole thing even more confusing.
“Hey,” you interrupt quietly, causing all heads to turn towards you. “Wonwoo’s here. Give me a second?”
Your friends all nod in unison, and you can feel them watching as you stand up and make your way over to the door. As soon as you reach him, your hand is automatically searching for his, gently tugging him through the door and back out into the cold.
“Babe,” you say hastily as soon as you’re around the corner and out of sight. “What’s wrong?” Your hand leaves his so that both of yours can run over his arms, his biceps, his shoulders, giving him a frantic once-over to make sure he’s physically alright. When your hands cup his jaw, he finally moves his hands to cover yours, lowering them down to hold them in between you.
“You’re not hurt?”
Your eyebrows furrow in confusion as you stare back at him. “Huh?”
His eyes wander over your face, brows still furrowed in what you affectionately like to call his Thinking Face, before he moves back to look down at your feet. “You can walk fine?”
You are so confused. “Yes, Wonwoo, what? Babe, did you run here?”
You watch as he tilts his head, still thinking for what feels like forever – and then his lips twitch up at the sides. He suddenly looks embarrassed as his gaze falls from yours, but he’s smiling, a hand leaving one of yours to lift and cover his face.
You are so confused.
“I didn’t run here,” he finally answers, his hand falling away from his face, “but I definitely may have gone over the speed limit to get to you faster.”
“Why?” You ask, incredulous. You still have no idea what’s going on.
“YN," he says, voice laced with amusement. "I texted that I was on my way. You said your heel broke."
You blink once, twice, before it suddenly dawns on you. “Oh my god, Wonwoo –”
“Yeah.” He's smiling so wide that his eyes are crescent moons, and you're smiling, too – and then he begins to laugh.
You can’t help but join in.
He pulls you into his chest, and you can feel him laughing against you. It’s a quiet laughter, but you’re grateful no one can see the two of you where you stand outside the restaurant, because you’re sure you both look insane. You don’t care, though, because all you can think about is how fast he’d tried to get to you because he thought you were hurt.
Your heart swells from its place in your chest, so full of affection for the man in front of you that you can feel it all over. You pull back, your hands finding either side of his jaw to pull him in for a quick kiss, and you can tell he’s pleasantly surprised by the way his cheeks tinge pink. Neither of you really have a thing for PDA, but you couldn't help it, not when you felt like you were so full of affection you could burst.
“You are such a loser,” is what you say, but you know he can translate it. I love you is what you mean, and he knows.
“I panicked,” Wonwoo laughs, running a hand through his hair as he laces his fingers with yours. “Sorry about your shoe, though.”
You wave your free hand in the air as he slowly walks you towards the restaurant door again. “I’ll deal with it later.”
He glances in through the glass when you reach it, giving your hand a squeeze. “How much longer?”
You beam at that, lifting your hand up to gently brush some hair off of his forehead. “Not much, if I can help it. I miss you too much.”
“It’s been like two hours," he says, as though he isn't clinging onto your fingers in his with everything he's got.
“Okay, Mr. I’m-going-to-rush-to-my-girlfriend’s-aid-even-though-she-only-has-a-broken-shoe–”
“Bye,” Wonwoo says abruptly, and you giggle. “Love you,” he murmurs, catching you by surprise, but you don't miss a beat. You simply squeeze his hand, and say the words back.
Tumblr media
Later that night when you check your phone, you giggle to yourself as you see the two messages you'd missed from Wonwoo, sent directly after the others at dinner:
Wonwoo ❤️: stay there
Wonwoo ❤️: I’m coming to get you
And another, timestamped an hour later, when he was back home and on your couch:
Wonwoo ❤️: I’d do it again :)

Part III. Irreplaceable
I Set the World on Fire masterlist
Word count: 1.6k
Tumblr media
“Why haven’t you sent Maximoff your demands yet, Natasha?”
“I know that Wanda is suffering. Right now, that’s enough.”
“How is that enough?” Yelena snapped. “You could have all of her assets, her businesses - all of her power.”
“I have what matters most.”
“To her! Not to you!”
Natasha finally raised her head to acknowledge her sister, her expression unchanging.
“Y/N matters more to me than owning everything Wanda has.”
“And what about owning Wanda? That was your goal. That was the whole point of this!”
“Owning Wanda would be a bonus.” Natasha admitted. “But having Y/N and knowing Wanda is suffering, unable to do anything for her, is enough for now.”
Natasha walked over to her sister and placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing slightly in assurance.
“We will have her in time. We’ll have it all. Then the Romanoff’s will be the most powerful family in New York.”
Natasha began to walk off, but Yelena’s words stopped her in her tracks.
“I can’t wait to get my hands on her for what she did to us.” She growled.
“And for what she did to Clint. I haven’t forgotten.” Natasha said softly.
“It seems that with Y/N you’ve disregarded everything else.”
“Not everything, sestra. Wanda and the empire she’s built will be mine.”
Wanda couldn’t control it for another minute longer.
She threw her glass against the wall, watching as it smashed into tiny bits and the contents spilled all along the now damaged surface.
In a rage, she grabbed armfuls of paperwork scattered among her desk and tossed it all on the ground.
She kicked and punched and scratched at everything she could get her hands on, not only destroying everything around her, but slowly destroying herself.
“If I hadn’t been such a bitch …” she grumbled to herself, her fingers trailing along the bloodstain on the wall from her self-inflicted injuries. “Now I lost her. Just like …” she let out a sob. “Just like Pietro.”
She slid down the wall, sitting amongst her scattered papers and broken furniture. What had she done? What would become of Y/N now?
Tears stained her cheeks, the bags under her eyes evidence that she hadn’t been sleeping or taking care of herself in the slightest. She searched day and night for Y/N, never having any luck, always a step behind Natasha.
She brought her hands up to her face, blood mixing with her tears as she rubbed her eyes.
Her men had done what they thought they should’ve; they destroyed, robbed, and even burned down numerous of Natasha’s well known owned establishments. Wanda hadn’t ordered it, but she certainly didn’t tell them to stop. So it had been weeks, months even that they were out destroying things and she was searching fruitlessly for Y/N.
“I need to pull myself together.” She said softly, looking down at her wounded hands. “I have to - for Y/N.”
Her knuckles were scraped and bruised, her nails left half moon cuts on her palms, and she suspected she might’ve even broken one of her fingers while she went around destroying the room.
“Y/N needs me … she needs me to be strong.”
With a groan, she lifted herself up, bracing her weight on whatever was left of her desk. She panted softly, her tears still staining her pink cheeks as she calmed herself down. She would find Y/N and she would get her back.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.
“Wanda?” Dimitri opened the door slightly, peeking in before stepping fully inside.
“What is it, Dimi?” Her voice was low and her accent was thick. She was tired.
“Your proof.” He said, holding up his phone. “I got it.”
She looked up at him, her eyes glistening with hope.
“Get him.”
“Why won’t you eat, detka? Are you sick?”
“I’m not hungry.”
“You have to eat.”
I looked away from her. I didn’t want to eat. I didn’t want to live. I had given myself to a monster to save the woman I loved and I was in hell. Natasha wasn’t cruel to me, not really. As a matter of fact, sometimes she was rather … loving. She seemed to care about me but I couldn’t trust her. She was only keeping me here to hurt Wanda.
She reached over to me and grabbed my chin gently, turning my face to look at her.
“When will you stop thinking about her? Haven’t I treated you right? Taken care of you?”
“Yes,” my voice was small. “But …”
She moved herself closer to me, mere inches of space between our faces as she looked into my eyes.
“Wanda didn’t treat you right. I do. All you did was fight and say hateful things towards each other. Why do you yearn for that?”
How could she know that? Her words swam around in my head, the reality of the situation hitting me like a ton of bricks. How did she know so much about our relationship?
The door burst open and I turned my attention to whoever just entered the room like a bat out of hell. She continued to stare at me, uncaring about the intrusion.
“They know.”
When I realized who had entered the room, I went pale, my body stiffening with realization.
“That sounds like a personal problem, doesn’t it, Leo?”
He looked panicked, and I had never seen such a look on his face in my life. But what was he doing here? What was going on?
“They know everything. She’ll kill me -”
“Maybe you should’ve thought about that,” she turned her head to face him. “Before you helped me kidnap her girlfriend, hm?”
“Leo…” I whispered, unable to accept what I was hearing.
He looked at me, flinching slightly at the look of betrayal on my face, and turned his attention back to Natasha.
“You have to protect me!”
“I don’t have to do anything.” She said with a smile.
I pulled my knees up to my chest, resting my head on them as I tried to accept what I had just been thrust into. Leo had betrayed me, betrayed Wanda. No, she wouldn’t hesitate to kill him.
Natasha ran her hand up and down my back, the sound of the fabric of my shirt ruffling the only sound in the silent room.
“Why don’t we let Y/N decide what happens to you?”
I could almost hear the grin that was plastered on her face at the situation. I didn’t even bother to look up at them. I shook my head.
“What was that?” She asked tauntingly, stroking my hair.
“Send him to Wanda.” I whispered softly and she returned her attention to Leo.
“Looks like your time is up, buddy. You were a great help.”
“You-you can’t do this to me! Not after what I’ve done!”
“Your usefulness has come and gone. Maybe you should’ve thought this through.”
I finally looked up at him, his face completely white and his body shaking. He feared Wanda - as he should. He had been one of her most trusted men, one of her oldest friends, and he betrayed her. Wanda had killed people for less.
Without another word, he turned and ran out, probably planning his escape from both women if he was smart. I stared at the opened door as Natasha continued to touch me mindlessly, stroking my hair, caressing my back. She always had to be touching me in some way.
“I’ll let Wanda take care of him. He’s nothing to me.”
“Why did you let him believe differently?”
I shifted my eyes towards her and she was still smiling.
“My offer to him was money, a position of power … respect. If he believed that he was irreplaceable, that was his own mistake.” I finally turned to face her. “Nobody is safe in this business.”
“You used him. Just like you’re using me.”
“I’m not using you, printsessa. If I was, would I have kept you alive this long?”
Fear struck me harder than any blow ever could. She was right. If she was just using me as bait or as a tool of revenge, this would’ve been over long ago. This was something else, and that scared me more than anything.
“I take care of what’s mine.” She took one of my hands in hers and brought it up to her lips, kissing my knuckles. “He was never part of my family. Never would be.”
“What am I to you?” I asked shakily, watching her with wide eyes.
“You … are what’s left of my humanity.”
The questions burned my throat but before I could ask she continued to speak.
“Do you know how many there were before you?” I shook my head. “Four. None of them lasted more than a month. But you …” she spoke as she pressed my hand against her cheek. “You’re different. I know now why Wanda kept you so secret.”
“She was ashamed of me. Ashamed to love me.” I said sadly.
“She knew you were special and wanted to keep you all for herself.”
I looked her up and down for a moment before blinking wordlessly. She was being raw and honest with me. Why?
“What do you want from Wanda?”
She licked her lips, her eyes searching mine.
“I want everything. I want everything that she is. I want her.”
I flinched at her words and pulled away from her. Me giving into her meant nothing. It was just another victory for her. She was still going to go after Wanda for whatever reason and my choice to give in or not meant nothing to her.
“You were her everything and now you’re mine. If you had resisted me, this may have been a more painful experience for you.” She laughed. “But definitely not for me.”
She picked up the plate of food that had been completely ignored and stood from the bed.
“I wouldn’t want to hurt you, but I will if I have to. Remember that, printsessa.”

Door opened. A masked figure entered.
“Oh~ sorry I'm late. I was immersed in conversations with former executives.”
He apologized , however this apology was not enough to calm the five angry men who had been waiting for him for about half an hour, the person who was attending the meeting via a tablet, and the person sitting anxiously.
He quickly took his seat at the head of the long table.
“My dear executives wanted to meet of their own accord, and it has been a week since the monthly meeting. I'm really curious about why we're meeting”
“Tch, stop acting like you don't know. You know the reason very well.” Leona said, clenching his fist nervously.
“Leona-san, please control yourself.” Riddle said.
"The reason we're meeting tonight is 'Y/n'."
A tense atmosphere filled the room at the mention of your name.
“After the monthly meeting, I didn't get a chance to call them because of my schedule, but according to the news I got from you and my subordinates, no one could reach them.” Riddle continued.
“I cleared my schedule to spend this week privately with Y/n. However, when I called them,I could not reach . When I got their home, everything was in its place. Their car was also in front of the house.” Said Vil.
"They hasn't been to the Monstro lounge since the day they came to report the monthly meeting." said Azul, adjusting his glasses.
“Nothing happened to Y/n, right? This has never happened before.” Said Kalim worriedly.
“Idia? Do you have any information?" ' Azul asked.
“Y/n-shii normally visits me every day but they never showed up this week. Like you, I searched for them, but I could not reach . The phone line was turned off a week ago. The cameras I placed in their house suddenly broke down at the meeting night . Not only that, I can't access the footage of all the cameras around the house from the last week, they're all missing." Idia replied.
“Is there anything else? There must be something.” said Riddle.
“There is nothing at the moment. The bank account was likewise closed. Give me some time, I'll definitely find them ." Idia said.
Leona began glancing at Malleus.
“What is it, Kingscholar, is there something on my face?” said Malleus, sipping his tea.
"Nothing . It's just that Y/n last spoke to you before they disappeared. I thought of that.”
"Oh,so you suspect me"
Leona squinted his eyes suspiciously.
"I don't know what happened to dear Y/n or where are they right now either." said Malleus with a grin.
“But eventually I will find them. Besides, if you're going to be suspicious, you should suspect the head of the table first, right boss?"
All eyes were on the masked man sitting at the head of the press.
“Draconia-san is right. Y/n was your assistant and also your so-called right-hand man, so if anything happened to them , you would be the first to know.” said Azul.
“Where is Y/n, Boss?”
The room resounded with a burst of laughter.
“As expected of my executives, although it took a long time for you to arrange this meeting… anyway then I say it, I don’t know where Y/n is, but I do know what happened to them. My beloved bird Y/n left the mafia.”
Silence filled the room at Crowley's words. The silence was broken by Leona's fist hitting the table.
“What nonsense are you saying! Why would Y/n leave the mafia? There was no reason for that.” Leona said.
“R-right why would Y/n leave ? Y/n was very happy here with us.” Said Kalim while trying to not believe.
“Oh you are right. Y/n was happy here, or so we thought. I don't know why my beloved bird wanted to leave either, but who knows, maybe they felt like in danger or just wanted a new ,smoother, quieter life. I dont know ." ' said Crowley, taking a sip of his tea.
Riddle grit his teeth. He had to control himself. He stood up and began to speak.
“Still, although you are the boss, you cannot make such a decision without consulting us. I, Riddle Rosehearts demanding that Y/n L/n be brought back to the organization . My justification is that a former high-ranking person like them poses a great danger to all the secrets of the organization . Please vote on my request right now, boss. While all the executives are present."
“Well then, let's vote as you say. Those who accepts the request to bring the Y/n L/n’s back to the mafia?"
Everyone raised their hands. Crowley grinned.
“Okay, then the decision has been made. I leave the rest to you managers. Please don't go too hard when you bring back my little bird. You know, I love them as much as you do."

Am I interested in Dick Grayson's innovativeness and how that makes him a terrifying opponent?
Nah, not really, no, it's no- EXCEPT THAT I AM!
I love your analysis and honestly, I always surf through the dick Grayson tag once a day to see if u have posted. Pls drop the innovatiness wala analysis. I would absolutely eat it up
ADSAJHFGAJLHADJLHA YOU CAN'T SEDUCE ME LIKE THAT-MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT!
But I am here to deliver *bows*
Let's start this off with a bang
Tumblr media
Dick is completely naked except for a towel and with one (well defined) leg he hooks the handle of the beer bucket and sends it smashing into Midnighter to stop him from using the knife on another person.
Pure. Fucking. Platinum.
That move was so delicious, there's an ease-fluidity-grace-to that split second movement. Also notice how accurate his aim is despite swinging it with the arc of his toes. The bucket slammed right into the medulla oblongata, or more specifically the pyramidal tracts which are crucial for controlling voluntary muscular movements. Nerves from the brain cross over at that area as they go down and then synapse onto other nerves that are responsible for controlling muscles when they leave the spinal cord. The precision at which he aimed the bucket is glorious. And with what? His feet.
The only reason Midnighter wasn't injured is because he is a meta which is the point. Otherwise Dick wouldn't have aimed there unless he was fighting an enemy.
Oh that brings me to my next point.
Dick has extraordinary control of his actions
Tumblr media
He's so right though. Nightwing doesn't need to kill because fighting is too easy for him. I swear he has some kind of messed up idea (aside from his need to be absolutely good) that killing someone with a gun would take the joy out of fighting. He loves to live life on the hardest mode only.
The rapid fire throw of the gun, calculating the distance, time, velocity of return, and angle? I mean I studied physics and calculating even half of that on paper is a headache. The fact that he did it in one second? It's extraordinary. Things that are pure, dumb luck to literally everyone else is carefully calculated at a speed faster than light, making it look like luck. Damn.
Tumblr media
Yeah.
Tumblr media
Forget Slade. Midnighter is my new favorite nemesister.
Tumblr media
DO YOU SEE WHAT HE FOUGHT WITH?! WHILE DEATHSTROKE AND BLACK ADAM WERE FIGHTING WITH META POWERS AND A CURSED SWORD, HE FUCKING WRAPPED CHAINS AROUND HIMSELF LIKE A BOSS AND WHIPPED THE SHIT OUT OF THAT MAN.
Please take a moment of silence to relish in this sight.
Dick's innovativeness is a formidable skill when fighting allies.
Tumblr media
Dick and Ras are evenly matched in sword fighting.
Wait, wait. I don't need any doubts about Dick's strength in sword fighting so I'm going to include a couple panels here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dick fights Azrael to a standstill which is absolutely incredible because Azrael solos. He's gone through many upgrades and skills and is one of the best fighters ever. He's even defeated Bruce.
Tumblr media
He also defeated Jason and Tim together in Batman and Robin Eternal.
This is just another point towards the fact that Dick actually won in his fight against Bruce before going into Spyral. They weren't holding back.
Oh yeah. Ra's vs Dick panel, Dick and Ra's aren't going anywhere because Dick is a swordsman equivalent to one of the best in the world. So how do you win a draw? By one upping the opponent. He swings his foot up in midair and completely defeats him. "But that isn't a defeat...Ra's just stopped fighting!" It was complete defeat because Ra's is intelligent and knows when he can't win. Also they have been fighting for a while until they reached the breaking point in the battle. This move is a show of how Dick has that just one inch more that will lead him to be a victor.
Tumblr media
Ra's honors Dick so much he tried to give the sword he used to fight with Batman because he thinks Dick is worthy of it. Can anyone receive a higher honor than this from that man?
He'll also use the broken glass of a car window to take down his opponent. If that's not innovation, then what is?
Tumblr media
But one last thing since a car door cannot be considered innovative these days.
Tumblr media
sticks. He literally took two twigs off the ground to use as weapons against his highly skilled, one of the best assassins, great-grandfather who is fighting with daggers in his hands and all over his body.
But you know the best part?
Tumblr media
He draws his opponent to a tie. A tie? Not a win? No it was win after, considering he used his relative's falling body as a launching pad in the middle of the air when they were falling off the bridge to grab onto the bridge with the help of his friend. So it was his win but it's insane how incredible Dick's skills are.
It's really innovative because who thinks of using twigs and winning? Let me also clarify another point. Dick could've used the knives he'd gotten from his talon suit and thoroughly won because when he was brain washed he almost killed Red Condor from how skilled he was but he conscientiously chose to use twigs. In a sword fight. This man.
His improvisation is an asset that many have come to know him for and classify him as dangerous because he can fight with anything, anywhere, and win.
Something I want to end with. Dick only fights people who are stronger than him. I know he's fought mob characters and stuff but his enemies? They are all metas, assassins, skilled fighters, Russian Black Ops, and more. Essentially, people who are the top of the class in their categories and him defeating them equally and fairly is the reason why he has the respect of his enemies. He's just that good.

Instant Eternity Pt. 2
So, Danny has the infi-map and uses it to go on vacations and the like to enjoy his now eternal life. The infinite realms are Infinite, really and truly. But locations within the realms correlate to spaces in the “real” world, so what happens when you travel beyond what should be the ends of the “real” universe in the realms? You find other universes. All universes, realities, multi and Omni verses connect with the Infinite Realms, hence the name kind of implying the existence of infinite realms. With the infimap Danny’s able to visit and explore these other planes of existence to his hearts content, and over the course of his travels makes a number of close friends.
He can’t just say goodbye forever, can’t leave them with no way to call for aid or call for small talk so, he comes up with a bit of a crazy plan to make sure all his new friends can meet each other and stay in contact. A combination of the infi-map, Fenton portal technology, time medallions/assistance from clockwork, help from the yeti’s and maybe even some help from Dr. Strange or Dr. Fate all come together to make a private club that connects to who knows how many dimensions. In a Ghost King AU his royal palace has all the normal palace stuff but surrounding Phantom’s Keep is a whole town for inter-dimensional travelers. The portals themselves are all in a massive tower, either leaning tower of Pisa style or a massive clock tower because of how much Clockwork helped out, arranged kind of like how all the statues of the avatars are arranged in the air temple in ATLA.
Danny’s sitting at his desk in his office while 7 Gokus, 13 Vegitas, 4 Beeruses(Beerusi? A pod of Beerus? Flock?) 10 Piccolos and 1 Gohan crowd the rest of his office. “Two Hundred and Forty. 2-4-fucking-0. That is the number of of Territories that have lodged official complaints about the ruckus your fights have been causing! Queen Patet sent a fifty seven page long letter asking me to give every single one of your dimensions eternal travel bans to all of your dimensions and every dimension where even one of you exist. Because the shockwaves from your fights were still strong enough to shatter glass when they reached her Territory. The territory of Vitrum, which makes Fucking Everything from glass! Including the Goddamn Buildings! They build their cities in massive glass orbs! More than thirteen hundred buildings torn down in one day. Including every single hospital they had. You fought for nine days straight. Get out. Get the crap baskets out of my office. Now. Go home. Let the Bulmas know that they’re paying the reparations.” They all file out of the office, Vegitas and the flock of Beerus mumbling about how they shouldn’t have made their buildings out of glass if they didn’t want them to get broken. The one(1) brain cell the group had, otherwise known as Gohan, was apparently the only one with manners, profusely apologizing and offering to help with the clean up even as he got shooed out of the office.
More then a dozen Quirckless!Izuku vigilantes come together to form a great big club to share intel that match’s across their various worlds, analyze quirks, train and give each other therapy. It’s all going well. Then the Batmen stop developing contingency plans for literally all the beings they meet here juuust long enough for their adoption senses to start tingling. The Dad Mights, Dadzawas and Dad for Ones put aside their differences to combat this new threat. The Spider-men are sitting in a corner grateful that their spider senses and Peter tingles helped them avoid all that nonsense. Until the Iron Dads show up. Then they’re all to busy running and cursing their Parker luck to be grateful.
Passing through a gateway to another universe that isn’t yours require approval from no less then half the visitors from that verse and/or Danny himself. Same thing goes for leaving the compound to explore the Realms.
All the adoption addicts from across the multiverse take one look at Danny, listen to all the rumors about his parents and go “Mine!”. Luckily for Danny he doesn’t really have to to worry to much, doesn’t even notice really, because 2.3 seconds after they did that they all turned to each other and went “No! Not yours, Mine!” The infighting has kept them busy ever sense. However, according to an ancient, sacred prophecy(something that Clockwork mentioned in passing 2 months ago) they will eventually all decide that Danny having a proper support network is more important then who his favorite supporter is. So he’s going to get parented so hard by all three hundred and eighty of them. More moms, dads, ma’s, pa’s aunts and uncles then he’ll know what to do with.

hi. hey. it's been a hot second since my last meta post but ohhhh did i realize something while making my edits. ready? i wasn't. there's gonna be a number of screencaps so let's go
i think everyone *noticed* while watching but didn't really mentally elaborate on it because i at least was already too busy sobbing. now, during the entire confession scene, crowley is attempting to make eye contact while aziraphale does his best to avoid it.
wanna take a guess when that changes? the second he steps closer and says nothing lasts forever. suddenly crowley is the one looking away, he can no longer stand to look into his eyes because his heart just got broken into a million little pieces and he loves zira so fucking much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
aziraphale is staring straight ahead and crowley looks past him, looks out the window, up, everywhere but at him. he ends up looking down and at the glasses in his hands and guess what.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
aziraphale? aziraphale FOLLOWS his eyes. FOLLOWS. look at how he moves his head to keep meeting crowley's gaze. the head tilt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i quite literally could not decide which screencaps to use so have all of them.
what really gets me though, and this might just be me being a little bit insane and very gay, but i swear aziraphale glances at his lips. it is literally one frame but it is THERE. look!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
his eyes flick DOWN. just for a second but they move from crowley's eyes, where they have been for the last half a minute, to his mouth. and when crowley says good luck and walks past him? he STILL follows him. turns his entire head and body with him even while he is trying to catch up with what crowley is really saying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
alex, you may ask, why does this matter? because it is the other way around now, they switch roles, because crowley kept eye contact during his confession and this is aziraphale's confession.
this is HIM saying run away with me, let's go off together, let's be an us in heaven. he tries to soak up literally every single heartbeat of being able to look into crowley's eyes without any barrier between them. this is him trying. he literally moves with him just to keep looking at his pretty yellow eyes, the eyes he has come to get to know so so well over the last few years. the eyes that have been uncovered, his face bare, presumably every single time crowley was in the bookshop.
crowley hears "nothing lasts forever" and takes it as rejection.
aziraphale says "nothing lasts forever" and looks at the one thing, the one person, that IS forever to him - crowley. he cannot say the words and lets his eyes speak for him yet crowley has already closed himself off.
(side note: call me delusional which i am clinically psychotic and all but if crowley had not put on his glasses? had stayed just a bit longer? said the nightingale bit right then and there? fuck me, but i think aziraphale would have kissed him first)
aziraphale loves humanity, loves the world, but crowley is HIS world, he sees all of his creations, all his nebulas and stars, in his eyes and tries to find the joy in them that he once saw before the beginning of time.

Taking Time—Fifty Five
The only answer was yes.

Word count: 8,660
I’ve never really believed in bad omens or bad luck. A black cat, a broken mirror, a broom falling before a storm. None of it was particularly foreboding to me. But what happens instead might be worse. Whenever things are going too well, I have this thread of underlying dread running like a hidden current beneath a calm sea. It’s that old saying: What can go wrong, will go wrong. You know that one? Maybe that’s still a manifestation of bad luck—always expecting the worst. It always makes itself known, though. At least to me.
It was as if the world pressed fast forward over the next ten days for Maya. But she tried to soak it all in as much as possible. News spread of her and Paul’s engagement quickly and her mother demanded upon threat of disownment to throw her an engagement party at her childhood home.
Maya had given in quickly, to her mother’s surprise, knowing that it was inevitable to avoid a celebration. That’s how Maya found herself on a balmy November afternoon, fielding question after question from elders, distant cousins, and people in her community she’d only seen in passing about her impending nuptials.
“So, how did he do it?” Her aunt Isla asked conspiratorially, sandwiched between about twelve other people making a semicircle around Maya.
“Oh, uh, on the cliffs,” she smiled genially, but her palms were sweating as she tried to rub them dry on the front of her bright red mini dress. The sweetheart neckline dipped just low enough to show the tasteful curve of the top of her breasts. Maya shivered slightly, her bare shoulders and legs seemingly more on display here than in a bikini on a California beach.
“I want to see!” an overexcited teenage daughter of one of her mom’s friends squealed. Maya shoved her hand forward to display the glittering rock nestled on her finger. It really was beautiful and Maya was nearly breathless every time she saw it herself. The crowd around her ooh’ed and aah’ed, grabbing her hand unceremoniously and bending it this way and that to make it shimmer in the light.
Maya grimaced, this was the same routine on repeat she had done for the past hour and a half as people circulated around her. Paul had been swallowed up by other crowds, no doubt being subjected to the same onslaught of questions.
“Are you moving back then?” a question carried from a part of the crowd, but Maya wasn’t sure who it came from.
“What? Oh, no, I still have another year left—,” she tried to respond but was quickly cut off by other overlapping questions:
“Can’t you transfer?”
“Poor Paul, I’m sure he misses you terribly.”
“Newlyweds really shouldn’t be apart in their first year, it’s so important to be together.”
“You should really think about transferring.”
“When are you guys planning on trying for a baby?”
“Oh! A baby! So sweet.”
“You guys would make the cutest kids.”
It was…exhausting.
Maya tried to smile as she curled an arm around her middle uncomfortably as the questions continued. She couldn’t even get a word in, they were just relentless.
“Excuse me, folks,” Paul’s warm, deep voice ran a shiver down her spine. Suddenly, he was there, his arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his side and instantly banishing the chill that had settled over her.
He handed her a glass of champagne that Maya desperately sipped and smiled at the crowd around them. “I need to steal my fiance away. Rish also wanted me to let you know that the food is being set up, so please go help yourselves.” Paul made it look so easy. They simply melted in front of him and dispersed immediately, providing more well wishes to them as they went.
Paul leaned down and placed a kiss to the top of her head as Maya let out a deep sigh.
“How are you holding up, baby?” he asked her softly, his comforting firm grip on her hip soothed her anxiety. Maya took another swig from her glass, nearly draining it before answering.
“Just…tired,” she finally said. “Why did I agree to this again?” Maya glanced around the room before looking up and up at Paul. He smiled warmly down at her.
“Because your mother would have hunted you down anyway and this at least gets us off the hook for attending the harvest bonfire,” he reminded her. Maya nodded and rested her forehead against his chest as she groaned softly. Only a couple more hours and they could go home. “Come on, let’s get you something to eat,” he rubbed her back gently and started to steer her toward the dining room where a massive spread of food had been deposited.
But before they could reach it, the door opened to cheers and exclamations. Maya looked over her shoulder and her eyes widened as she watched Becks waddle through the front door, followed closely by Jacob, holding their son in one arm.
“Becks!” Maya called out incredulously as she pulled out of Paul’s arms and hurried over to her heavily, painfully pregnant best friend. Becks turned and smiled, one hand on her lower back and one on her extended belly that sat low in front of her. “What are you doing here? I thought you were on bed rest.”
“Yeah, me too,” Jacob said with an exasperated sigh. Becks rolled her eyes at him and shook her head.
“This baby will not come out, so I needed to get out. Plus, you’re here. My good luck baby labor charm,” she leaned in and Maya tried to hug her around her giant belly.
“Jeez, are you sure you’re okay? This…does not look comfortable,” Maya said as she looked over her best friend.
“Oh, it's not. I’m…miserable,” and she looked it. Dark bags hung under her eyes from restless sleep and every part of her looked swollen. “I just couldn’t stay in bed another minute and the midwife said walking might help spur on labor.”
“Walking in small doses,” Jacob reminded her as he bounced Ephi gently. It was always such a funny sight to Maya to see these giant, towering, strong men handle a baby with such gentleness and care.
“Are you hungry?” Maya asked, already knowing the answer. Becks shook her head quickly and blew a breath out as if she was already going into labor.
“No, we’ll just hang around for a bit, I think my parents are here anyway,” Becks motioned toward the double doors that led onto the back deck.
“Okay, well let me know if you need anything,” Maya rubbed one of Becks’ arms and gave her a sympathetic smile. As they wandered off, Maya turned and saw Paul approaching with a plate in his hand. He handed her a fork and she started to take quick bites as they huddled together.
“No baby yet?” Paul asked.
“Mmm mm,” Maya mumbled around a mouthful of sweet potato. She loaded her fork with more food and held it up to Paul as he gratefully took a bite. People were whispering off to the side about how cute they were. It took everything in Maya not to roll her eyes at them.
She didn’t mind these types of things, it was just being on display that irked her. Maya had never felt more like a trophy than at this very moment. Her mother was drinking all of the attention in and talking about wedding colors and themes that Maya hadn’t even started to consider.
“How much longer do we have to stay again?” Maya asked, swallowing another sigh.
“We’ll sneak out in about an hour. I think you’ve done enough parading and after dinner, people will start drinking and not even notice we’re gone,” he reassured her. That was a saving grace at least. She could last another hour.
“Maya!” another gaggle of aunts called out across the room as they strode toward the happy couple.
“Just smile, I’ll handle the questions,” he leaned down and kissed the side of her neck before neatly tucking Maya into his side again and taking on the approaching vultures.
----------------------
The never ending list of things to do before Maya was due back in New York was making her head spin. With only three days left of her break, Paul had to unexpectedly take a trip to Seattle to consult with some huge new clients from overseas. However, he was going to fly out to the New York next week and stay with her for a bit so they could detox from the wedding frenzy that had taken over La Push and nearly ruined her fall break.
Maya checked her messages as she left the Quileute clinic after getting her IUD removed. She already had another appointment scheduled for when she got back to New York for a new one before Paul arrived. Keye had texted her about meeting up for lunch with her and Sadie.
Maya smiled down at her phone. Things hadn’t gone over too well after Keye had talked to Colin, but things were mostly smoothed over at this point. She hadn’t told him about the abortion, but she apologized for leaving him in the lurch and not talking to him sooner about ghosting him.
Just as she was typing a reply to confirm their plans to meet for lunch, her mother’s face popped up on an incoming call. Maya threw her head back and groaned. She hadn’t gotten a moment of reprieve since the engagement party from neverending wedding planning from her mother.
She considered ignoring the call for a moment before begrudgingly answering.
“Yes, mom?”
“Oh honey! I’m so glad I caught you. I was wondering which you liked better: Azaleas or hydrangeas?” Rish was talking a mile a minute and Maya could here the honking of cars in the background.
“Why?” Maya tried to hide her annoyance, but failed spectacularly.
“For flowers, for your bridesmaid’s bouquets!” Rish exclaimed impatiently as if they had  had this conversation a million times already. They hadn’t.
“Mom, I don’t even know what colors I’m doing for the wedding yet, we can’t pick flowers until I decide on colors,” she crossed the parking lot to her car.
“I thought we said we were doing shades of pinks and greens?”
“Nope,” Maya said in a clipped tone.
“Well, these are perfect for spring and I think that would complement those colors so nicely anyway. I’ll bring back sample bouquets and we can look at them together,” Rish carried on.
“Mom, I’m leaving in like 48 hours, I don’t have time to look at bouquets. I’ve got like three interviews to prep for and I’m organizing the food train for Becks before I leave. Where are you, anyway?” Maya started the car.
“Pikes Place Market. Your father and I popped over for a couple of days to do some scouting for wedding ideas. Oh! Isn’t Paul in Seattle? Maybe I can meet up with him and go over—”
“No! Mom, please don’t bother him. He’s in really important client meeting with some international bigwigs. Do not bother him with this.” Maya’s tone was firm.
She really needed to set some boundaries with her mom regarding the whole wedding planning thing. She hadn’t even been engaged a week and already her mother had booked four different appointments to shop for wedding dresses in New York next month.
“Mom, I gotta go,” if she didn’t get off the phone now, she may never escape.
“Fine, fine, but call me later!”
“Will do!” Maya lied. She quickly ended the call and tossed her phone into the center console with a little too much force.
----------------------------------------------
It was early the next morning around 3 a.m. when Maya’s phone rang suddenly on the nightstand. She had made it a habit while she was home to sleep with the ringer on loud in case anyone called about Becks.
When she answered groggily, Jacob’s voice snapped her awake.
“She’s in labor. She’s asking for you,” Jacob said quickly.
“I’m on my way,” Maya was already throwing off the covers and slipping into some sweatpants as she hung up. She shot a quick text to Paul to let him know when he woke up that morning and ran down to the Jeep.
The rez was peaceful at night. As Maya coasted down the rain slicked roads toward Becks and Jacob’s she couldn’t help but relish in the cool and quiet that settled over her home. She did miss it. And she knew she always would.
In no time, Maya had pulled and parked into the already crowded driveway at Jacob’s. As she jogged toward the front door, she could already see people milling about inside, prepping food, cleaning, and taking care of things in anticipation for the new baby. When she pushed in, everyone was keeping their voices low and Quil looked over at her, his eyes lighting up with delight:
“She’s upstairs, Jacob said to send you up when you got here.”
Maya nodded and smiled with excitement as she took the stairs two at a time. The scene within Jacob and Becks’ bedroom was as calm as a quieted chaos could be. The lights were dimmed and gave off a warm amber glow.
Becks was propped up in a custom canvas pool that sat in the cleared space in front of their bed. She was naked, with a small towel draped across her breasts with Jacob wedged in behind her, stroking her arms. Maya couldn’t hear what he said, but he was calmly talking in a low, honeyed voice into Becks’ ear. Her eyes were tightly closed as she breathed her way through another contraction. Maya could see the vice grip she held on Jacob’s biceps and low groans and whimpers escaped her.
The warm water sloshed gently around her as she wiggled to try and find a comfortable seat through her contraction and the midwife and her assistants gathered around her, warming the water with fresh pours and prepping towels and tools nearby to assist with delivery.
It was beautiful and terrifying. Maya’s eyes widened in wonder as she crossed the room quietly and sank next to the pool up by Becks’ shoulders.
“Maya’s here,” she heard Jacob rumble softly in Becks’ ear. The contraction had passed and Becks was slumped tiredly against Jacob, sweat beading on her forehead. She turned her head across Jacob’s chest and opened her eyes blearily as a smile cracked across her face.
“Maya,” she breathed. Maya returned that radiant smile as tears brimmed her eyes. Becks looked so beautiful and so incredibly strong. Her towel covered chest rose and fell as she took deep, calming breaths. She reached out for Maya’s hand and grasped it immediately.
“Hey babe, how are you doing?” Maya said just as softly as Jacob had, trying to mirror the calming atmosphere everyone was working so hard to keep for her.
“He’s…he’s coming,” Becks said. Her eyes were glassy, but filled with sheer happiness even though Maya knew she was in excruciating pain. Quileute women traditionally delivered naturally, unless there was some exceeding circumstance or planned c-section. This time, Becks had wanted to do it all exactly right as everyone of her mother, grandmothers, and great grandmothers before her.
Jacob helped prop Becks up a little higher on his chest as he rubbed along the sides of her belly. The midwife smiled warmly at Maya and checked Becks’ progress.
“You’re almost there, honey,” the midwife confirmed, “Time to push very soon, okay? Just keep listening to your body and let him come on his own. You’re doing great.” Maya had to hand it to her, she was very convincing.
Maya knew that in time when she and Paul had kids, if she decided to do it the Quileute way, at home, with her husband behind her, in a water bath, she’d be absolutely terrified. But Becks just looked ready—elated even—to be bringing her second child into the world. It was something she couldn’t even fathom as being a part of her life at this moment, but she was just so happy to be there for Becks again.
Becks’ breathing picked up again as another contraction rolled through her. She squeezed Maya’s hand and held onto Jacob as a deep sob erupted from her throat.
“That’s it, there you go, mama,” the midwife coached, “Just like that.” She must have been getting close because Maya watched as a flurry of activity suddenly happened around her. Assistants were preparing, noting times and dates, keeping time, and prepping the towels. The midwife leaned over the side of the water bath and helped the assistants position and hold one of each of Becks’ legs firmly in their arms, anchoring her into a birthing position.
Again, a fresh wave of terror washed over Maya as she held tightly to Becks who just seemed to know exactly what to do. Jacob was methodically counting out breaths for Becks as she arched and groaned through the last intense contraction.
“Alright, Becks, ready?” the midwife confirmed from her place below. Becks nodded quickly, “Dad, ready?” Jacob braced Becks and nodded swiftly, his eyes never leaving the side of his wife’s face. “Next contraction, I want you to start pushing,” the midwife stated.
Maya hadn’t realized her own breathing had picked up as her eyes darted from Becks’ face to the midwife between her thighs watching carefully for signs. The next contraction began quickly.
“There you go! Push mama! Bear down against them,” she instructed. Becks pushed and nearly screamed as she held on tightly to Jacob and Maya both.
“Push, baby, push!” Jacob chanted still calm but firm in her ear. Becks’ cheeks were reddening and Jacob urged her to take a breath as the contraction wound down.
“Good! Good, deep breaths, 1, 2, 3, 4,” the midwife’s hand was nowhere Maya could see. Suddenly the calm and quiet room was just pure energy and it all centered around Becks. The assistants were counting out breaths, their rhythmic voices offering clarity and guidance through the controlled chaos, “Again!” the midwife said louder. “Push, Becks!”
“Push, push,” Jacob began again. Maya mirrored him, chanting softly as Becks’ wailed through another contraction, her face contorting in pain, mouth wide open as stuttering groans broke free of her throat.
“Fuck,” Maya said under her breath. This was unlike anything she had ever witnessed. Even before, when she had been there for the birth of Ephriam, Carlisle had made it seem like no time had passed at all before he was placing the newborn on Becks. But this…this was something else. It was a moment in time, meant to be experienced and meant to be something bigger and more symbolic than just the birth of a child, but rather the persistence of their tribe to simply exist in the face of seemingly unending pain.
Maya watched as Becks pushed through contraction after contraction, slowly delivering her second son into the world. And all she saw was strength.
On the final push, Becks let out an otherworldly scream as he slid the rest of the way out and into the waiting water below. A new burst of activity began around them. The assistant’s lowered her legs and removed the warm wet towel covering her heaving breasts. Maya’s eyes were clouded with tears, as were Jacob’s as the midwife quickly pulled their baby from the water. He let out a guttering, wet cry and Becks, exhausted and sweating, broke into a smile and laughed so bright Maya thought her heart would split in two with joy.
The midwife quickly placed the wailing baby on Becks’ waiting chest, nestling him between her breasts. Jacob’s large hand came up to cover their baby’s back as he kissed the side of Becks’ face over and over, whispering in her ear things Maya couldn’t and didn’t need to hear. It was pure love, this picture before her.
Becks was crying softly as she held her newborn son, her head pressed into the crook of Jacob’s neck. Maya stood slowly and took a step back from the pool, her heart beating wildly in her chest as she took in the scene before her. Her best friend was overwhelmingly happy and Maya understood this was where Becks was meant to be.
As she slowly slipped out of the bedroom to leave them to their intimate first moments with their son, she watched as Becks turned her head up toward Jacob’s, her free hand cupping his cheek as he looked down adoringly at her. He kissed her slowly and Maya shut the door behind her, the tears still falling freshly down her cheeks as she disappeared into the dark hallway.
Maya covered her mouth and cried softly. She felt a buzzing throughout her whole body that she could only imagine was happiness.
“My?” A soft voice floated from the top of the stairs. Maya whirled around, her hand dropping to her chest as she gasped. Paul’s darkened figure stood just a step below the landing and he watched her carefully, his eyes shifting to something darker as they laid upon her.
“Jesus, Paul, you scared me! What are you doing here?!” Maya didn’t even try to hide her tears as she crossed the landing to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and sniffling into his neck.
He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him before bringing his other hand up to gently wipe the tears off her face and push her loose hair back.
“I got your message that Becks was in labor and caught a red eye,” he said in a low whisper. The sound struck a warm thrum deep in her belly and she swallowed thickly. His eyes looked over her face slowly, taking in every piece of her, memorizing her emotions. “What’s wrong?”
Maya shook her head slowly and closed her eyes for a moment. “Nothing, really. It was just intense and she’s just so happy…It makes me happy that she’s happy,” she felt like she wasn’t making much sense but Paul nodded as a crooked smile broke across his face as if he understood.
“I know, baby,” he whispered, leaning down to kiss her slowly. Maya sucked in a deep breath of him as their lips connected, relishing in that soft earth and spice scent. She leaned her body into his and felt that warmth spread throughout her belly. Paul’s hands gripped her hips tightly and she felt a rush of euphoria sweep through. She was so very warm that Paul’s hands felt almost cold. When they broke their kiss after a few moments, Maya was nearly panting. She stepped back to get a grip and wipe her eyes again. Paul kept his grip on her waist and when she finally let her eyes adjust and settle on him, he looked intense.
The sharp, strong curve of his jaw was softened by his trimmed beard, and Maya reached up absently to stroke her hand across it. Lightning prickled on her fingertips as she did and she watched Paul wet his lips in response.
“We should go home,” his voice was a deep rumble in her chest. When her eyes darted away from his mouth to connect with his, she saw fire. She tried to stifle a small gasp, but it slipped from her throat. Paul’s grip tightened further and pulled her closer as if on instinct.
Maya shook her head to try and clear it. Her heart beat wildly in her chest and she closed her eyes for a moment before she stuttered out, “N-no, I need to start breakfast and m-make sure everyone is on assignment.”
When she opened her eyes to carefully look at him again, she knew she was done for. “Kim’s got it under control. Let’s go home,” the command was subtle and he tugged her near him as they descended the stairs together. Maya made quick and quiet goodbyes, waving to the sleepy group of people milling about doing chores and small tasks in the early hours as dawn broke. Paul guided her out into the cool air, never letting them stop as they walked swiftly toward her Jeep.
The cool air felt like a wash of sleet melting on her skin. Maya let Paul deposit her into the passenger side of the Jeep and only when he snapped the door shut behind her did she notice that she was breathing too quickly as if she had just run a marathon. She focused on breathing through her nose and out through her mouth, trying to quietly calm herself as Paul steered them expertly through the dark toward home. But her heartbeat barely slowed. When she stole a glance toward Paul, she saw the muscle in his jaw tick and the whites of his knuckles as he gripped the steering wheel. But he didn’t seem mad…just anxious to get home.
Finally, once they pulled into the driveway, Maya started to feel a little more settled. The warmth of the house inside was a blur as Paul pulled Maya upstairs toward the bathroom and quickly turned on the shower. Everything felt hazy, as if the adrenaline was coating her brain in a strange fog.
“P-Paul?” she barely whispered as she turned to face him. He was gently pulling off her shirt and sweats. Maya could feel his hands shaking as he undressed her. “Are you okay?”
“I’m trying very hard to be gentle, but I just feel like ripping your clothes off,” he said through  gritted teeth. Maya shook her head sleepily, standing in just panties as she said,
“Just rip them, who cares.” Paul didn’t hesitate upon her permission to rip the cotton easily from her body. She sighed in exaltation and stood naked before him as he quickly shed his clothes and backed her into the shower.
The water felt barely warm against her hot skin, but she stayed put beneath it as Paul brought his mouth down to hers, stroking her body lovingly beneath the water. Everything was quiet, except for their panting breaths as he quickly scrubbed her down with soap and reverently rinsed her. She felt the thick heated length of him resting against her stomach and swallowed as her mouth watered.
Just as quickly as he had placed them in the shower, she felt him guiding her out, toweling her down softly and moving her to the bed, his hands roaming around her body, touching every part of her, his lips moving across her shoulders and neck.
Maya collapsed on the bed, writhing gently against the sheets. Every stretch of her body felt delicious and the soft sheets felt like a warm caress against her skin. Paul’s hands settled on her thighs and the heat of his touch felt normal. For once, they felt like they were the same temperature.
His lips started to kiss the inside of her thigh, quickly gliding up to her center before he took a deep breath of her and dove in. The groan that emanated from him made her shudder. Maya’s cheeks reddened. She was already soaked, but every swipe of his tongue between her legs was like a bolt of lightning up her spine.
Maya could vaguely hear herself beg—his name, pleadings, promises, needs. But she was still lost in that heady haze. She felt him rise up above her and then the taste of her bloomed on her lips as he kissed her. There was urgency in his touch, but when she gripped his biceps, he slowed as if remembering himself.
Nothing had ever felt like this. Maya felt as Paul gently pressed against her opening, but he waited, pulling back from their kiss to look down at her.
“Ready?” his voice came out husky and deep. Maya exhaled, her eyes hooded as she breathed a quick: “Yes, yes please.”
He slid all the way home and Maya’s back arched off the bed as she let out a startled yelp. He felt…much, much bigger. Was he always this big? The stretch was overwhelming and even with how wet she was, she felt every inch of him within her. Paul let out a low moan into her ear and paused, trying to catch his breath.
“Paul, ah, fuck!” Maya gasped between small whines. Each time she moved, seemingly involuntarily against him, she felt a snap of pain and then aching relief within her.
“My, fuck, I know baby, just—you feel so,” he let out a laugh against her throat. He was shaking all over. Maya whined and rotated her hips ever so slightly and felt him cinch tighter inside her.
“How are you—,” another gasp of air, “This big? It feels—”
“Amazing,” he leaned up to look down at her, trying a tentative push against her, “You feel amazing, baby.”
She had to admit, besides the slightly uncomfortable stretch at her opening where he seemed to bulge larger than before, he did feel incredible inside of her. Sweat beaded on her forehead, her nipples tight peaks that rose and fell, grazing against his chest with every breath.
“Let me just..” he groaned again as he shifted inside of her and Maya swallowed hard. He brought one of her knees up and stretched her open more. Her back automatically bowed off of the bed and Paul’s eyes coasted down the length of her in awe.
His hands gripped around her ribcage as he leaned back and started to press slowly in and out of her. Maya was lost, her head was swimming, and she felt like she was on fire. Every stroke felt like she would split in two but each time he withdrew it was like a new ache bloomed in her, waiting to be filled.
She watched him above her, his eyes transfixed on her naked body, heated and hungry, and something within her just snapped. Her whole body shook and his mouth fell open as he watched her come undone quickly. There was nothing like this. She didn’t know how it felt this way, but she never wanted it to end.
As soon as her orgasm rinsed through her, Paul still pushing slowly into her, she gasped, her eyes widening as realization rocketed through her. “Fuck! Stop, stop!”
“Wh-what?! What’s wrong?” He was over her in a second, his hand coming to cup her cheeks as she pushed against his chest roughly, “My, what is it?”
“Condom! We need a fucking condom, fuck!” He was still inside of her and Maya couldn’t help but arch her hips into him with a whimper.
“Why? My, we talked about this, it’s just superstition,” he pleaded in between heavy pants. She could tell it was killing him not to move. His eyes were wild as he clenched his jaw.
“No, I don’t have any…Fuck! I got my IUD taken out,” she was frantic now. Paul stilled, his eyes wide.
“What?” his voice was low, that same gravelly, heated tone coating his words. “You’re not—”
“I didn’t know you were going to be back and I had an appointment to get a new one put in in New York before you were supposed to meet me out there,” she was still pushing slightly against his chest, but his eyes had a far away look to them, his mouth hung open, and he was still inside her. “PAUL!”
“Fuck! Okay, hold on,” he looked down between them and gently tried to pull out of her. He was wedged so tightly inside of her, Maya threw her head back and screamed at the sensation. It was neither painful, nor pleasurable, but just left a harsh aching behind that had her pulse ratcheting up. When he finally pulled all the way out, Maya sucked in a breath and looked between them.
“Did you come?” she was shaking from the adrenaline, from the ache, she didn’t know. He shook his head still looking down at her before replying.
“No, not yet.”
“Okay, okay. Good,” Maya breathed, falling back onto the pillows. She was thoroughly wound up now and tried to wipe the sweat off of her forehead. “Just, grab a condom and we can keep going,” she nearly begged. He moved soundlessly to the nightstand, methodical and quick.
By the time Maya had leaned up on her elbows to look at him, she saw both her body and his were covered in a thin sheen of sweat. He rolled the condom tightly onto his shaft, wincing as he did.
“Ready?” she said in a whisper. He looked up at her, but his face was unreadable. He was still panting, but he nodded.
“Turn over,” he didn’t give her a moment to comprehend his request before grabbing one of her knees and flipping her onto her belly, “Ass up,” he directed, pulling her hips up. Maya’s heart thumped wildly as she felt him rub his now covered tip against her opening and slid back in. It was just as tight as the first time but Maya rocked through the discomfort. Paul was a man possessed behind her, pulling her hips tightly back onto his as he thrust into her.
She was quickly coming apart again beneath him and this time, she closed her eyes, biting down against the pillow as he hammered home inside of her. Stars popped behind her eyelids and she heard a deafening moan around her. She wasn’t sure if it was her or Paul. Maybe it was both of them, but whatever it was, she could feel him tightening again inside of her. As her body contracted and flooded with warmth, his thrusts began to stutter and suddenly he was unable to move at all inside of her.
He leaned over her back, panting and dripping sweat, “Don’t..Don’t move,” he pleaded. She could feel him twitch inside of her. The feeling of it was euphoric. Every breath she pulled in tightened her belly and made her acutely aware of every inch of him, making her shudder and ripple with pleasure.
Maya thought she might actually pass out with how much she was feeling all at once. She was both too hot and pleasantly burning. A matchstick, set alight. Maya moved ever so slightly, curving her hips away from him and froze when he let out a pained moan. She looked over her shoulder at him and he placed his hand on her lower back.
“Stay still, baby. Just for a minute…let me just…” he was absently kissing and nibbling on her shoulder to placate her.
“Are you okay?” Maya said, breathlessly. Paul let out a soft huff of air that almost sounded like a laugh.
“Yeah, honey, I just… need to calm down a bit,” his other hand found her hip and he squeezed tightly. “You were so good for me, My.” He chuckled a bit as if just as taken aback as she was by their shared euphoria.
Maya glowed at the praise but couldn’t help from wiggling at the sensation of him between her thighs. After a few moments, Paul eased out of her slowly as Maya collapsed completely on the bed. She turned over to stare up at him as he sat back on his knees, head lifted to the ceiling, as sweat poured off of him. She’d never seen him so…undone.
Her eyes sparkled with delight and she couldn’t help but smile mischievously up at him. He took a few more breaths before lowering his head to gaze down at her and laughed again.
“What?” he smiled that warm, signature smile of his and it made butterflies burst in her belly.
“Nothing, you’re just…sort of beautiful, is all,” she replied softly. He nodded as if he hadn’t expected her to say anything else and got up with a groan, padding over to the bathroom.
Maya propped herself up on the covers and waited until he came back with a warm washcloth. He gently cleaned between her legs and wiped himself off before collapsing on the bed next to her. Maya snuggled into the crook of his arm and in no time, they had both drifted off to sleep, their equal warmth radiating off one another.
--------------------------------------------------
“I don’t think I’m going to make it this weekend either. The shipment just came in and it’s looking rough,” Maya could hear the crackle of disappointment in Paul’s voice as she hurried across campus. The biting cold made her nose run and hard pellets of snow pelted her forehead. Maya heard a distinct crashing sound on the line and couldn’t help but wince as an onslaught of expletives spilled from Paul’s mouth.
“It’s okay. I’m just getting over this stupid cold anyway and I really need to meet with my thesis advisor this week to start getting plugged into my lab options,” Maya blew out a huff of air, walking through the quickly dispersing fog of it. She fished a tissue out of her pocket that Rosalie had kept stashed there for her and wiped her constant running nose.
At least she was starting to feel better. Her labs had a wicked cold run through all the students and Maya was seemingly the last to recover. Everyone had been coughing and hacking for what felt like weeks. She felt like she was through the worst of it though and with her newfound surge of energy, she really wanted to dig into prep for her thesis. The spring semester always flew by and before she knew it, she would be in her final year as an undergrad at Columbia. The thought made her head spin.
“My, it’s New Years. Shouldn’t you be enjoying yourself?” Paul reasserted. Maya pulled open the heavy door to the main library and relished at the warmth washing over her.
She’d barely taken a break even over Christmas. Paul had planned to come see her for her Christmas break, but Jacob had held him back, citing some weird disappearance up North that he had to check in with the Cullens about in Alaska. So, Paul had stayed behind for the pack.
Despite Paul’s effusive apologizing, it hadn’t bothered Maya at all. She and Rosalie and Emmett had spent a great weekend together. Truth be told, it was the most sleep Maya had gotten since she’d flown back after fall break. But still Paul had felt guilty for not coming sooner like he’d promised, despite Maya’s placating.
“I enjoyed myself last week,” Maya breathed a sigh of relief as she unwound her scarf. Her lab was quiet during the weekends. “It’s fine, babe. Just come whenever the work stuff blows over, I’ll be here.” Maya reassured him. He sounded stressed and she just wanted to see him, but piling on him more wasn’t what he needed right now. “Did Jake make it back okay?”
“Yeah,” there was a long pause as Paul blew out breath and Maya unpacked her bag slowly.
“And?” she prompted.
“And,” Paul sounded distracted, “And I might have to go with him next time.”
“Next time?” That piqued Maya’s curiosity.
“Yeah, there’s apparently more going on up there than we thought. I’m not really sure on all the details but—Fuck! My, baby, I gotta go,” a flurry of voices sounded in the background, along with some very angry beeping.
“Okay! Good luck,” she called out.
“You too,” he managed before the line disconnected. Maya let out a sigh and stared down at her lab notebook. She wasn’t disappointed that he wasn’t going to make it out here for new years, but she had hoped they’d see each other sooner rather than later.
At least there was still the work ahead of her.
Maya sat on the lab stool, blew her nose for the millionth time, and dug into her work.
---------------------------------------------
“Are you sure you don’t want to come with us?” Rosalie asked from behind Maya as she fluffed her perfectly curled blonde hair. Maya sighed and shook her head, adjusting her corset top with  Renaissance themed artwork painted across it. She had found it in the Village earlier that week on a rare shopping outing that Rosalie had insisted on.
“I’m sure. I’m meeting everyone at Giordi’s in like half an hour,” Maya insisted. Her nose was only slightly red from the last little bit of her cold, but honestly it weirdly brightened her face.
“Okay, well call me or Emmett if you’re over it and want a rescue,” Rosalie insisted. Maya nodded as she dusted her makeup brush across her bronzer and blended along the contours of her face.
“I will, now go have fun!” Rosalie burst with a smile at that, so incredibly lovely and eerily glowing. Maya was never put off by their strange beauty, but more so fascinated by it. Like a scientist wanting to observe and study a new culture. Rosalie floated out of the room gracefully, her golden shift dress sparkling as she went.
Maya took a last sip of water, donned her heavy Gucci black puffer coat and zipped up the sides of her leather heeled boots. She promised herself she’d stay for at least a few hours, just until midnight, and then she could come home and crawl into bed. While her cold had dissipated, the stress of her thesis and subtly avoiding Arden had tanked her energy.
She was exhausted, and the stress of it all wasn’t lending herself to sleeping well. She tossed and turned most nights and when she woke up, Maya would often text or even call Paul. It was like an impulse and just hearing his voice or seeing him type out a reply was like a salve to her anxiety.
The walk to Giordi’s was only about six blocks, but Maya caught a cab anyway, using the excuse of her heeled leather boots to sink warmly into the backseat and nearly float away from the already persistent tiredness.
The ride was short and as Maya spilled out of the cab, she watched as eager partygoers poured into the restaurant. There was a hidden club downstairs that flaunted an impressive amount of a space for how unassuming the little restaurant was. Maya made her way in with the crowd, scanning for her friends and cohort.
It didn’t take long once she got downstairs to find them huddled around one side of the elongated bar. She bounced over and smiled, ready to put as much energy forward as she could muster and determined to have a good time.
They all cheered in unison when they saw her and Jamie, her energetic lab partner pulled her into a side hug before handing her a shot of something. Maya took a whiff and nearly gagged.
“This smells like lighter fluid, what is it?” she grimaced. Jamie and a few of the others laughed before knocking back their own shots.
“It’s just vodka,” Jamie reassured her as she threw back her own shot, sans chaser. Maya felt like gagging but choked back the shot, feeling her stomach roil painfully. Not a good idea.
“UGH!” she groaned, shaking her head.
“Come on!” Toby, a boy in her cohort beckoned, “You gotta catch up, we’ve been here for at least an hour.” Maya shook her head aggressively and leaned on the bar to order a water.
“No chance,” she called over her shoulder to them. They already looked pretty drunk, or on their way to being so, but Maya didn’t have any interest in getting hammered tonight. She was hoping to get up a little early tomorrow to get her outline finished and over to her thesis advisor.
Have fun. Relax. That little voice inside of her head begged at her. Funny how it almost sounded like Pauls’ voice. She would have fun, just maybe not the drunken, disorderly fun they were all expecting on new years eve.
Maya stayed close to her friends, sipping a diet coke she had lied and told them was spiked. They were all having a great time, and even she had to admit, she was having fun, even if she wasn’t dancing wildly in the pounding club like her friends. Instead, she stayed tucked into the bar, swaying her hips to the music and watching out as people cheered and bobbed to the crescendoing music.
Maya glanced up at the giant digital clock suspended over the dance floor to denote the countdown to midnight. Only an hour left and she could sneak away. Her bed sounded amazing right now. As she turned to order a refill, she felt a warm presence sidle up behind her and before she could turn, a warm voice said in her ear: “Hey you.”
Maya whipped around and looked up to see: “Noah!” she cried out. He laughed, his sweet, familiar face beaming down at her. She crashed into him in a tight hug that he joyfully returned.
“What’s up, My-pie?!” he crooned.
“When did you get back?!” He had been gone for the entire semester, studying at a sister college in the UK for his thesis and working closely with a think tank to develop some really exciting research about clean energy.
“About an hour ago,” he looked down at his watch and laughed, “What are you drinking?” he nodded to the diet coke that the bartender slid back toward Maya.
“Oh, uh, rum and coke?” she offered the lie easily and he nodded. The bartender asked what he wanted and he ordered a whiskey, neat. Maya arched an eyebrow.
“Yeah, I’m not really looking to get hammered either,” he said genially as he leaned against the bar. Maya sagged with relief and smiled. “Jet lag,” he offered as an excuse. Maya nodded seriously and then broke out into a smile. Noah was here.
They had barely seen each other since the summer and she really had missed him. They fell into easy conversation as well as they could around the pulsating music for a bit. Her crowd of friends barrelled back over once they saw Noah and demanded another round of shots. Maya insisted she had to use the bathroom and snuck off in search of it.
“Hurry back!” Noah pleaded as he nodded toward the impending clock. Only fifteen minutes until midnight. The bar was being overrun with people trying to order a fresh drink before the new year.
Maya weaved through the crowd and thankfully found the nearly empty bathroom. She quickly peed and took some deep breaths to try and quell her stomach that still hadn’t stopped panging angrily since that initial shot. In the stall next to her, someone heaved and threw up into the toilet. Maya tried to breathe through her mouth so as to avoid the smell of vomit sneaking under the stall, but it was no use. It hit her like a bus and before she knew it, she was arched over the toilet, spilling the contents of her stomach into the dirty toilet below.
What the fuck was she doing here? Maya wiped the beading sweat away from her forehead and tried to gulp down some air before she threw up once more. With shaking hands she lifted herself up and staggered out to the sink. Now that the rogue shot was cleared from her stomach, she felt better, but was still shaking slightly with adrenaline. Her phone buzzed in her bag and Maya ignored it.
Instead, she thoroughly rinsed her mouth out and popped a breath mint before braving the crowded club again. She was just going to tell Noah she was going to catch a cab home. It wasn’t worth it and she desperately wanted to be in her bed at this moment.
If she was being honest with herself though, she desperately wished Paul was here. It wasn’t like the aching absence that the imprint had thrust upon her before—no that hadn’t happened since before fall break. Instead, it was just a present longing that threatened to make Maya tear up. The door to the bathroom swung open and a girl stumbled in, bracing herself on the sink next to Maya.
Maya took another moment to wipe the sweat from her forehead and dampen the back of her neck with some cold water before she turned to leave, but the girl stopped her.
“Hey! Oh, fuck,” the girl winced slightly and looked at Maya, her eyes not quite focusing on her. “Do you have a tampon?”
“Oh!” Maya exclaimed as she started to dig in her purse, “Yeah, one sec,” as she rummaged in her purse, a pit fell to the bottom of her stomach. She grabbed the tampon from her full supply in her bag and handed it to the girl who slurred her thanks and trudged off toward an open stall.
Maya stared vacantly at the door to the bathroom, trying to slow her breathing. The muffled sounds of the club beat just beyond the door and she wanted to go home. Now.
As she made her way across the crowded dance floor to cheers and cries as the final few minutes to midnight began, she spotted Noah among a clump of her friends just off to the side of the dance floor. He caught her eye and waved frantically at her. Maya tried to keep her shoulders back and her mind clear so as not to give away any unnecessary worry on her face.
“My! You almost missed it!” Noah cried out as he pointed to the clock overhead. The final minute until midnight began and people began cheering as the DJ lowered the music so people could countdown at the ten second mark.
“Sorry, I just…I think I’m actually going to head home,” Maya yelled over the loud crowd chattering and hollering around her.
“What?!” Noah shouted back as he leaned down to hear her better.
“I think I’m gonna head home!” she repeated in his ear. Noah leaned up and looked at her face, opening his mouth as if to protest and then he looked behind her, his face cracking into a friendly smile.
“TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX!” Maya’s eyes widened as she looked at Noah in confusion and then she heard a warm, deep voice in her ear.
“There you are.”
Maya whirled around and her heart nearly stuttered to a full stop as her mouth hung open in genuine surprise.
“FOUR, THREE, TWO,” the crowd continued.
“Paul!” Maya gasped as she automatically fell into his arms.
“HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!” the crowd shouted in unison.
Paul leaned down slowly, his arms wrapped warmly around her as his hands snaked her waists. He kissed her gently and Maya stood on her tiptoes, wrapping her arms up around his neck as she pressed more firmly into the kiss. All around them, people were kissing and cheering as sparkling confetti fluttered down from the ceiling and was caught glimmering in the lights of the club. When they finally pulled apart, Paul’s eyes were hooded with deep adoration. Maya couldn’t stop the tears from welling in her eyes now as the longing she felt just moments ago rapidly dissolved, replacing it with an overwhelming joy.
“Happy new year, Maya,” he said warmly.
“Happy new year,” she smiled, “You’re here.”
“I am,” he said, swaying her gently from side to side as Auld Lang Syne played softly from the speakers and people sang along. “I figured, since I’d already missed a couple of our dates, I wasn’t going to be late to this one.”
Late. Late. Late. Late.
Maya’s heartbeat sped up and she smiled shakily. “I’m just glad you’re here now,” she shook her head and pressed her body more firmly against his.
“Wouldn’t miss it,” he leaned down to kiss her forehead, turning her gently to the music, “I love you.”
Maya closed her eyes and leaned her head against his chest, “I love you too.”

Just a few more minutes and her shift was over. It’s been a calm night. She hated those. Nothing to pass the time over with her doing all this paperwork. She sometimes questioned her career choice.
Even though she knew what she was getting herself into, she couldn’t help but to feel regret. Cops weren’t liked especially in this time of the century. She had to tiptoe over broken glass with bare feet with the life she lived. Even her being out of her uniform, choices have to be thought through and logical.
Marissa was sitting secluded from traffic with her lights off when her speedometer tracker went off. ‘83 mph in a 35 zone?! Pssssh, what a nut case.’ She closed her laptop, clicked in her seatbelt and turned on her siren and lights.
It took her a minute to catch up with him, she had the slightest reason that they were going to try to take off, but they pulled over to the side.
Stepping out of her vehicle, she used her hands to do a routine check over her body to make sure she had everything she needed. Her left hand rested on her holster as she touched his back tail light with her finger tips.
Once she made it to the driver’s window, she was met with a familiar face. But she didn’t fold, she still had a job to do.
‘License and Registration please?’ Her voice was baritone, firm and stern.
He looked up at her with a twinkle in his deep blue orbs. A smile cracked on his lips before his eyes dropped from her pretty face to her chest, and her waist. ‘Damn, I’m lucky. Got myself a lady cop. How ya’ doin’ miss?’
‘Fine,’ her country accent slightly settling in with the word, she repeated, ‘License and Registration please.’
‘Hmph, yes ma’am!’ He smirked as he reached over and pulled his registration out of the glove compartment and then pulled his license out of his wallet.
Once he handed the paperwork over, she took a second to look down at his license. Hmph, it was him. District attorney, Henry Cavill.
Marissa was always fond of him, she admired his work and now that she had him in her grasp, she was not gonna let him slip away. Not with just a ticket no.
‘Alright, Mr. Cavill, hold tight. I will be right back.’ She shot him a half wink.
His eyes dropped from her face to her breast where her badge rested. Engraved in the pretty silver star, was her badge Number and her name: M. Calloway. He’d be sure to remember that. ‘Yes ma’am.’ He nodded, sticking his head out of the window to catch her walking away.
She was silhouetted by her Charger’s bright LED lights, emphasizing her curves and her tools and trinkets. ‘Damn.’ He mumbled before he bit into his bottom lip. He really did feel lucky.
Marissa sat down in her squad car with a smirk curled on her lips. Boy, the way those fuckers at the station were going to be kissing her feet after this one. How does one catch the damn district attorney out right breaking the law like this? Should she call it luck?
She started inputting his information in his file and rang her partner.
‘Yooo. What’s goin’ on Calloway?’
‘Listen, you won’t believe this shit Luis.’ She tried to keep her excitement under control.
‘Whatcha got?’
‘I just pulled over Henry Cavill.’
There was a pause on the other side of the receiver before Luis spoke up, ‘What? Wait, what do you mean?!’
A chuckle finally left her lips, ‘I mean I just pulled over the fucking district attorney! Did you not hear me the first time?!’
‘Holy shit!’ Luis laughed in disbelief, ‘How in the hell did you pull that off?! What was he doin’?!’
‘He was going 48 miles over the speed limit. It appears this is his 2nd offense. He was let off with a warning the last time but, I think I may teach him a lesson.’
And she had the perfect punishment in mind.
‘Damn. Sucks to suck. You need me to roll on by? I could watch your back.’
‘My back don’t need watching. I’m cool.’ She chuckled, ‘I’ll give you a shout once this is over with.’
Once they hung up the phone, she thought for a minute as she finished the final touches to the report. She left his belongings on the keyboard and stepped out her vehicle once again.
She did her routine touch on the back of his tail light and walked up to his window. ‘Mr. Cavill, do you know why I pulled you over this evening?’
Henry looked up at her for a moment as if he were trying to register her question in his brain, ‘I have an idea… but could you tell me, in case I’m wrong?’
Marissa placed her hand on her hip as her other hand rested on her gun handle. It was a habit of hers. She wouldn’t dare pull a gun out on her future boo thing. ‘You were going almost 50 over the speed limit.’
He sighed softly, his head falling forward as he chuckled in disbelief, ‘Jeez. I’m so sorry. That’s— that’s not like me. I just had a long day at the office, I’m working on this huge case and—‘
Marissa stared at him with eyes as dead as autumn leaves. Though on the inside, she felt for him. She wanted to wrap him up in a hug and say sorry and let him go. But her plans were just too sinister for that.
‘I’m sorry… could you just…’ he looked to the side, ‘Not write me the ticket?’
Her eyebrows tugged into one, ‘Listen, Mr. Cavill. I don’t know what kind of cops you’re used to but I’m not letting you off that easy. You could’ve seriously hurt someone and yourself! Or worse!’
He snapped his head over at her, blinking hard; not believing what he was hearing, ‘What?! What if— if I can give you money? I can give you money!’
There he was again… trying to bribe a police officer. Another crime.
Marissa’s eyes grew in shock, ‘Are you bribing me, Mr. Cavill?!’
Once he’d realized what he done, his mouth fell slightly and for a moment his eyes glazed over with fear, ‘wh—no! No, no— you’ve got it wrong! I—‘
‘Step out of the vehicle please!’ She demanded
‘You’re serious?’ He asked in disappointment.
‘As a heart attack. Get out of the car please.’
Henry grumbled and rolled his eyes as he clicked his seatbelt off and pushed it to the side. He pulled the handle gently and stepped out of the Jeep Gladiator.
He was much taller than she was, towering over her like a monument of muscle. He wore a cotton long sleeved shirt, dark denim jeans and black boots. Fuck. She couldn’t help but think to herself. He may be too much of a man for her to handle. But she wasn’t a quitter and her momma didn’t raise a bitch.
‘Turn around. Hands against the vehicle please.’
‘Yes ma’am.’ Henry let out an annoyed sigh as he placed his large hands on the roof of the vehicle. ‘What are ya’ gonna do? Frisk me?’ he scoffed at his little remark. He was hoping she’d do that and more.
Smirking at the joke, she placed her small hands around him and began to fill him out. Touching and squeezing on his soft pecks. ‘Don’t got anything that could stab or prick me, do ya?’ She asked as she continued to make her hands down his godly body.
‘No ma’am.’ his body tensed when she gave his thigh a firm squeeze, causing a tingling sensation in his groin to spark.
She raised a brow before standing up straight once again, ‘Well this isn’t exactly “District Attorney Office” attire. Where were you coming from again?’
‘The office! I got changed there. You know how it is being coped up in suits all day. I changed out of my suit before I left! It’s in the back seat.’
‘Mmhmm.’ She sounded a little bit skeptical. Anything to make him bend, she wanted him to feel inferior. Weak.
‘Alright, hands behind your back.’
‘What?! Are you arresting me?!’
Marissa let out a sigh as she rolled her eyes, ‘No, I’m not arresting you… yet. But you and I are going to have a little chat in my car. After this perhaps you could learn your lesson.’ She then clipped the metal handcuffs on his wrists and she grabbed his arm. The pair began on their short journey to the Charger.
‘You don’t have to do this! I think I’ve learned my lesson.’
‘I don’t think you have.’ She pulled open the back door and jerked her head over, ‘In with ya.’
With another roll of his eyes, he ducked his head down and sat in the vehicle.
‘Alright.’ she said as she began to undo her utility belt that held all of her weaponry and tools, ‘Let’s start our conversation.’
Henry glared up at her with confusion as she dropped her belongings on the front seat and turned off her radio. ‘What are you doing?’
A devious smirk curled on her lips as she began to undo her top, ‘You have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to do this Mr. Cavill.’
‘And what exactly are you doing?’ he swallowed his spit as he watched her now push her uniform top off of her shoulders and toss it next to him. She was now standing in a white wife beater and her bottoms. Her hardened nipples pierced through her sports bra and revealed themselves through her white shirt.
‘That’s for me to know and you to find out.’ She said in a salacious tone.
Henry swallowed a large gulp as she began to undo her bottoms and crawled on top of his lap. ‘I’m assuming this is the conversation you wanted to have with me?’
‘Shhh… listen, you’re going to pay for your crimes tonight. You can either take this slap on the wrist,’ she grinded her middle part against his growing erection, ‘Or you can just say goodbye to your career… this is after all your second offense… and you’ll just become a liability. Your call Mr. District Attorney.’
He bit into his bottom lip as he peered up into her brown eyes that just reflected in the most lascivious of things.  ‘Well if it means I get to feel you. Then count me in.’
A smirk curled on her lips, ‘Good boy. I will be referred to as ‘Mommy’ and right now mommy wants you to sit here and look pretty? Am I understood?’ Marissa crooned as she grabbed his chiseled jaw in her fingers and gave him a light squeeze.
Now, Henry was so hard he thought he would split rocks at this point. He loved when a woman was in tune with her body, knew what she wanted and knew how to get it. And Marissa was his ideal woman. ‘Yes ma’am. Anything for you.’
‘Good.’ she grinned as she leaned down and pressed her full lips against his. His lips were so warm and welcoming. They embraced hers like arms to a hug when his tongue slipped between her teeth, she found herself reaching between the both of them to undo his pants.
Once she broke the kiss, Henry looked up at her as she pulled her wife beater and then her sports bra over her head. Revealing her large perky sets of tits. ‘Mmm.’ he hummed as he grinded his hips upwards to ease that pain in his pants. He just wanted to wrap his lips around those sweet chocolate kisses for nipples. He was just dying to touch her. ‘Please! Officer–’
‘Mommy…’ she warned as she gently lifted her hips and pushed her pants off of her hips and then down to her ankles.
‘Mommy, could you please take these cuffs off. I wanna feel you.’ He was practically whining but he was desperate! He needed to touch her.
Marissa finally pulled his veiny, massive member out of his pants, practically drooling when she saw the sight. She felt like she hit a goldmine. ‘No touchy… Bad boys don’t get to touch. Maybe next time.’ She laughed out sinisterly as she positioned her body over his uncut member.
‘Aw man.’ he whined out.
She then slowly descended her hips down on his member, feeling him stretch and push past her. ‘Aah.’
Henry looked down between the both of them as she engulfed him with her goodness. His thighs twitched at the familiar yet, foreign feeling of her. She was so tight. So wet for him. Made just for him. ‘Uhhhh yes.’ He groaned out.
‘Damn,’ she shuddered out, feeling a sweet warmth of numbness travel down her spine, ‘You are a big boy aren’t you.’
‘Ooh yes. Fuck, mommy you’re so tight.’
She settled at the hilt of him, giving her walls time to adjust to his enormous size. Then, she lifted her hips slowly and dropped them down again, earning a louder groan from Henry. Marissa did that a few more times before she began to pick up her pace and bounce her hips on him.
Clap, clap, clap! Their bodies crashed into one another in a beautiful song. Henry’s eyebrows pulled into one as he watched her perfect breasts bounce with her movements. ‘Ooh shit. That’s it baby. More.’ He demanded.
Marissa moaned out as she began to mix her bouncing with grinding, ‘Aah! Fuck! Is that what you want babe? You want mo–’ and before she could finish, Henry adjusted his hips and began to thrust upwards. It stunted her for a second, causing a moan to be hitched in her throat. ‘Ooh! Fuck, that’s good baby. Uh huh!’ She began to drop her hips down to meet his thrusts, creating a new form of friction she hadn’t known before.
Her mouth hung open as she continued on with her rhythmic bounce. Henry’s hips had come to a stop and once again he was in a world full of ecstasy. ‘God-dammit, please don’t stop. Don’t fucking stop.’ he begged as a bright shade of pink rose from the base of his neck to his jaws, and the rest of his face. He felt his balls squeeze as he felt so close to an orgasm. ‘Aah.’
She could feel him throbbing inside of her. Her tight walls stretching with each throb, she knew he was close. ‘Aht’ she slammed her hips down upon his, ‘Don’t you fucking dare! This is a punishment for you!’
‘Ugh! Grr, fuck!’ He growled out, ‘Yes! Yes ma’am.’
‘You come when I tell you,’ She reached forward and wrapped her small hands around his neck, ‘Do you understand?’
‘Y-yes mommy.’ He croaked out.
She began to lift her hips and dropped them in a slow, tantalizing rhythm. He lifted his hazy head once again to watch her engulf him over and over again. He was coated in a pretty white orgasm ring at the base of his dick. It pleased him to know that she could use him like this and make her feel good in the process.
She kept her hold around his neck as she slowly began to pick up the pace when she felt a special spark within her core. ‘Ooh,’ her breathing hitched as her grip around his neck began to tighten, ‘Aah! Fuck, I’m about to cum. Fuck,’ her breathing became sharp and short as her body tried to brace her for the impact. And to her surprise, Henry began to thrust his hips upward again but this time much faster than before. ‘UGH! AAH!’ she exclaimed as her hips became locked in place allowing him to just take over just for a moment.
‘Come! Please, please mommy. Come for me?’ He growled out, begging her for her release.
Her body tensed up when his words met her ears. She was instantly met with a shockwave in her core, a beautiful erotic twist in her womb, ‘AAAAHHH! FUCK MEEE!’ she sobbed out but Henry just kept thrusting, fucking her right through her orgasm. Her eyes brimmed with tears as he had seem to fuck her into another orgasm that caused her to fold, ‘You can come baby! You can come baby!’ she whined out as he continued to thrust upward.
Just the words he wanted to hear, he watched as she began to slowly grind her hips downward as he thrusted upward. ‘Ooh shit. I’m gonna… I'm gonna nut. Fuuuu-’ his cursing broke off when he was finally met with his own orgasm, spilling inside of her and filling her all the way up. His thick veins throbbed in his neck and forehead. Telltale signs that he emptied his tank and gave her all he could offer her. Letting out a shudder of disbelief and amazement, his head fell back against the seat once again as he tried to regain the air in his lungs. It was easier to breathe before.
And he never came like that either.
Letting out a sweet and satisfied sigh, she could down to him, ‘That’s momma’s good boy.’ Then, she carefully lifted her hips and began to get herself together.
Once she was finished getting ready and she had helped piece him back together, she uncuffed him and looked up at him as he rubbed his wrists. Marissa smiled up at him and folded her arms across her chest, ‘So, what did we learn?’
Henry smirked and looked to the side, ‘Not to do 50 over the speed limit. Also, not to bribe a … fine ass cop.’
Marissa smirked and nodded, ‘Hmm, seems like you’ve learned your lesson… here,’ She reached inside of her vehicle and grabbed his license and registration papers off of the keyboard of the laptop. ‘I expect you to behave now. You aint hard to get to.’ She shot him a wink as he carefully took the documents from her.
‘Yes ma’am…’ he looked down at her badge one more time, ‘Ms. Calloway.’ He'd be sure to find out more about this fascinating woman. He had to.

Sea Dragon Queen. Chapter II
Tumblr media
Pairing: Alicent Hightower x Rhaenyra Targaryen, though they do not interact in this particular chapter
Word count: 3.1k
Summary: An AU where Targaryens have braincells. Alicent visits Viserys in the evening even though his betrothal to Laena Velaryon had already been announced.
Taglist: @arcielee @vhagarswar
Read on Ao3
Alicent I
“Are you going to see the king tonight?”, her father asked one chilly early spring evening, as they were having supper in their dining room in the Tower of the Hand. “I had several new gowns made for you, in the fashion of our late Queen Aemma. They should be already laid out for you in your bedchamber. It seems your mother’s old clothes aren’t quite doing the trick.”
A gust of wind howled beyond the closed stained glass windows. The beeswax candles in their wall sconces swayed in unison. Alicent knew perfectly well it was not really a question.
“And what kind of trick would that be, father?” asked Alicent quietly, before she could stop herself. She’d known since before she could remember that it was never a good idea to contradict Ser Otto. It was not through pure luck that he ascended to the office of Handship, after all. Even her own mother of blessed memory, the Lady Elinor Cuy, shrinked from challenging him too often. But Alicent felt herself growing bolder as of late. All the realm, from the Wall to the Dornish Marches, knew of their monarch’s solemn betrothal to Laena Velaryon, and such promises were not lightly broken, not even by the blood of the dragon. She felt almost safe. She took a larger sip of her watered Oldtown red to give herself courage.
“You know very well, Alicent. You are the most beautiful girl at court after the Princess. I heard Lord Rowan say so himself not three days since. Surely with a little effort you can enchant an old man enough to make him forget about a slight girl of twelve” he said, while cutting up his venison roast with a knife, his eyes not meeting her.
Alicent’s cheeks reddened. This went directly against everything she’d been taught by her mother, her septas, every woman of her rank and station she’s ever met. She had no more idea of seduction than of the inner politics of the Empire of Leng. Feeling equipped only to soothe his grief and to offer him friendship, that was the course she’d taken. Alicent knew the Kingsguard and the servants were already talking, and she dreaded the day when the word of her half-secret rendezvous reached Rhaenyra. Or maybe it already had, and she was only waiting for the right occasion to confront her about it?
“I have no knowledge of such tricks” countered Alicent sullenly, her eyes anchored on the polished brass plate in front of her. She nibbled on her roasted vegetables, her stomach in a painful knot.
“Then perhaps you might be persuaded to pay a visit to your uncle Lord Hobart in Oldtown” he said, locking her gaze with his watery grey eyes. “It has been so long since they’ve seen their beloved niece. In the last letter my brother sent me, he mentioned that one of his bannermen is looking for a wife” her father chastised with a smug expression she knew very well.
“Father, I…”, Alicent interrupted weakly.
“Do not interrupt me when I’m speaking, Alicent!” Ser Otto boomed with an angry voice. “Like I said, Ser Waymar Mullendore, a younger brother of the Lord of Uplands, is looking for a fertile, young consort, having no sons of his own. And besides, House Hightower ought to maintain good relationships with its vassal houses, would you not say so, Alicent? Ser Waymar is but three-and-fifty and is currently serving as one of the senior officers of the City Watch of Oldtown. He stands to inherit exactly nothing, but I’m sure my modest, obedient daughter will not mind a spartan life in the barracks, having been born to a second son and ill-equipped to manage a castle herself.  You will never see Princess Rhaenyra again. What say you to such a match, my daughter?” His teeth caught in the candlelight as he smiled at her.
Alicent felt lightheaded. Her eyes pierced, her cheeks white-hot, and her throat was dry, so she quickly doused it in her red wine. She found herself wishing it was sweet Arbor strongwine, not the tart, watered variety of her hometown. With a shaking hand, she placed her empty cup back on the table. A pale red winedrop ran down the brass goblet, landing on her bitten fingernail.
“I’m grateful for all your efforts to secure my future, father.” she said quietly, looking at her white fingers resting on the table. She could barely control the urge to bite them. Instead, she took a bite of her roasted turnip. It tasted bitter on her dry tongue.
“I know you are, sweetling. We all must do our part to ensure our House’s prosperity, fathers and daughters alike. Just like princess Rhaenyra will serve the crown by being the Sea Snake’s ward, I would like you to do your part for your House” he explained calmly, as if he had not shouted at her a moment before. She wondered if the servants had heard. She wished they did. “And trying on a few new dresses is such a small price to pay for all your family does for you, is it not?”
She could only find the strength to nod.
Alicent followed their old servant, Kyra, up the serpentine candlelit staircase to the upper floor above the Hand’s dining room, where Alicent’s solar and bedchamber were located. It was dusk; through the Tower’s tall windows she could see the empty training yard and the setting sky. The sunset had painted the thousand clay tile roofs of the capital a variety of shades of amethyst, lavender and lilac.
“Make haste, my lady, the seamstress is waiting” Kyra called in a kindly voice from ahead of her. “She is a busy woman, mark my words, m’lady. One o’ the best tailors in King’s Landing she is, everyone in the keep says so. Made gowns for good queen Aemma, she did. Don’t say she didn't. No, we mustn't keep her waiting, m’lady” she chattered. If it were anyone other than Kyra, Alicent would be well within her rights to disparage her for addressing a highborn lady of the court in such a manner, and a daughter of the Hand himself at that. But Kyra was Oldtown-born like herself, and it did Alicent good to hear the familiar, lilting accent so far home. She’d been in Ser Otto’s employ since Alicent could barely walk, long before they ever saw King’s Landing. And besides, Alicent was so fraught in spirit, she could hardly find the will to berate her if she wanted to.
“I would never dream of claiming otherwise” Alicent said with a weak smile as she climbed the last steps. Kyra opened the heavy oaken doors to her solar and revealed a short, grey-haired woman of about fifty or sixty arranging an array of colorful silk and velvet dresses on her sofa in front of the hearth.
“Good evening, goodwife” Alicent said, a polite greeting to lowborn women taught to her long ago by her septa, one she rarely had occasion to use. The old Kyra collected the dirty linens and wine cups from her bedchamber and quietly disappeared with a smiling nod towards Alicent. “I hope you’ve not been waiting long?”
“Only a few moments, m'lady,” the woman said. Alicent could take a closer look at her now that she stepped closer to the fire. The famed seamstress was small of frame, with veiny hands that spoke of a life of hard toil. A pair of Myrish lenses rested on her aquiline nose. She was dressed in faded Essosi silks and frayed wools embroidered in the Vale style, clearly odds and ends from her business. “M’lord Hand said you must be ready after your supper today, and dressed like our gracious late queen. I asked the servants in the kitchens downstairs what the court was celebrating tonight, that m’lady Alicent needed new gowns at a few days’ notice, but they could tell me nothing,” she blathered on while fastening the stays of a modest blue gown with a high neckline around her slender waist. Thank the Maiden the poor woman does not know the occasion, or she’d be ashamed to speak to me, Alicent thought.
“Just a small evening supper, nothing that the servants could know about”, she lied quickly. Alicent knew very well that there was little the servants did not know about.
“Her ladyship will forgive me, for the embroidery is so little to speak of, but the Hand had given me so little time! Half my apprentices worked on m’lady’s gowns alone for half a fortnight.  If it pleases lady Alicent, I might take all but the one m’lady chooses for tonight back to the shop and finish them” she assured as she spread the wide skirts of her gown so she could examine them. “But the fabric, m’lady! I had my best apprentice Sigrin go to Spicetown to buy it herself. She told me that a Velaryon ship brought it directly from Qarth not a fortnight since. The princess Rhaenys herself wears no better raiments'', the seamstress guaranteed as she looked over the garment to confirm it fit. Sigrid’s reassurances were likely true, or close enough; the Hand’s annual salary was very generous, and he was determined to spare no expense to achieve his goal. She looked at herself in the tall mirror. The dark blue silk gleamed in the firelight. The bodice, embroidered with thick silver thread in dancing arabesques, was close-fitting but concealed her collarbones, a fact she observed with gratitude. This evening she would not have a large book to cover her cleavage with.  It was probably the most expensive dress Alicent had ever worn.
“I will wear this one tonight, thank you” she said calmly, wishing this ordeal to be over. “You can leave the rest here as they are. You are thanked for your service. You may go.” Alicent dreamed of nothing more than to kneel at her praying stool in front of the window, the cool evening breeze on her face, hands clasped around her mother’s old crystal prayer beads. After every evening spent with the king alone behind closed doors, she liked to find solace in an hour of quiet prayer to the Maiden, asking the gods for forgiveness and guidance. The sooner she visits Viserys, the sooner she would be able to soothe her troubled conscience. But the seamstress was aghast.
“B-but my lady! It needs to be adjusted in a few places,” she took some pins from her belt pouch and installed them near her waist and around the sleeves, where the fabric was in excess. “Let me at least pin you in place so I don’t shame my shop -”
“I will tell every soul in the Red Keep who will listen that your clothing is the best in the realm. Now, please leave so that I may get ready for the festivities.” The festivities of my ruin , she thought bitterly. My ruin or my queenship, though the latter is hardly likely. The seamstress said her goodbyes uneasily, bowed, and left. Alicent put out the candles in the solar with her long extinguisher and quietly closed the bedchamber door behind her, eager not to alert any servants. She sat in front of her looking-glass and began brushing out her curls with her hairbrush. Knowing she must mold herself after Aemma Arryn was obvious, but accomplishing it less so. The late queen had silver tresses of hair straight as a reed, while the gods had seen fit to give Alicent a thick mane of tight brown curls. No amount of combing could straighten them out, but Alicent did her best to shape them into soft waves at least. She took two strands in the front of her face and joined them together at the back with an aquamarine-and-silver clasp shaped like a seven-pointed star, similar to the sapphire one Queen Aemma had liked to wear. Her stomach felt like a pit of vipers, twisted in an aching tangle of heightened nerves.  She took off her small gold necklace and rings she’d been wearing since morning, and adorned her pale digits in several silver ones, the first ones she could distinguish in the weak candlelight. Again she felt an urge to bite her fingers, and again she smothered it. She dabbed a few drops of Highgarden rose perfume on her wrists and neck, and took her leave.
The corridors of the Red Keep were still busy with servants, fetching their masters supper on brass trays. They still wore black aprons or ribbons tied around their arms in mourning of the dead queen her father sought her to replace. She crossed the distance between the Tower of the Hand and the king’s bedchamber in Maegor’s Holdfast in quick, hushed steps. Ser Harrold Westerling as usual held the night watch.
“I would like to see the king,” Alicent said quietly. The Kingsguard gave her a puzzled look and opened the great oak door without saying a word.
“Good evening, Your Grace”, she addressed King Viserys when the door shut behind her with a loud thud, though she could not yet see him. The scent of marble dust and melting beeswax hung in the air. She took a few steps and saw King Viserys hunched in a chair at the far end of the Old Valyria model, chiseling away bits of white marble, his back facing the open window behind him, his moon-white hair disheveled by the wind. “I see you’ve been working hard”, she said softly.
“As hard as any King worked on a model of the legacy of his more illustrious ancestors, to be sure”. Viserys put down his chisel while sweeping away white dust from his lap. In the faint candlelight Alicent could see small beads of perspiration shining on his forehead. He was only wearing his linen shift, with silvery tufts of chest hair poking out. Alicent took a heavy wool blanket from the king’s bed, shook it gently free of dust, and settled it atop his shoulders. He smiled weakly in lieu of thanks, and his dark violet eyes met hers for a moment.
“Please do not be so hard on yourself, Your Grace. Everyone in the city knows that every day you strive to do what’s best for the realm.” she said with what she hoped was her best smile.
“Yes, yes, I’m sure they do,” he said impatiently. “What brings you here, Alicent?”
“I… I only meant to check on Your Grace, hoping to ease your grief”, she replied, startled. Viserys was rarely this forthright. Usually they merely danced around the subjects that really mattered, talking about Old Valyria, her own family, matters of religion and history, the books they both enjoyed. Often, they shared their evening meals and prayers. Today was different, though. Alicent no longer felt entirely welcome here. She felt a surge of panic rising in her chest.
“No doubt at your lord father’s instigation”, Viserys said quickly, looking out the window. She made an effort to calm herself. She had a ready answer for that, drilled into her long ago by Otto.
“My-my father and I only wish to attend to your wellbeing, my king. The Lord Hand, so latterly widowed,  is conscious of the great sorrow the queen’s passing caused you, Your Grace. My only desire is to ease my sovereign’s pain”, she recited, remembering her father’s words. Hearken back to the death of Queen Aemma and watch him shrivel inside with pain, my daughter, he had said once. Tend to his sorrow and his grief. Make him want to seek comfort, and then be the first one to provide it. There you will find an opening for us. This evening Alicent found her father’s lessons of little merit.
“That is very generous indeed of Ser Otto. Here I am, newly betrothed, the wedding preparations ongoing, and my Hand worries still about my mental state”, he said in a sarcastic tone that he only used when he was angry. Alicent felt “Why are you here, Alicent? Do you wish to be here of your own will?” he said, boring his deep violet eyes into her.
“Your Grace, I…”
“Tell me the truth, child. It is a great sin to lie to your king.”
Alicent felt hot tears slowly fall down her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away. It was the first time Viserys called her a child.
“He-he said…” she struggled to form words, as a ball of panic and fear formed in her throat.
“What did he say?” Viserys said impatiently. “Alicent, please know that it is with your lord father that has trespassed on my goodwill, not you. I do not reproach you . By the gods, a blind man could see that you are naught but an obedient daughter. Now, what did he tell you to do?”
Alicent took a deep, shaky breath to steady herself. She anxiously wiped her palms on the skirt of her dress. There is my opening, she thought.
“He said that if I do not visit Your Grace in the evenings… he had this gown made for me for the occasion, from the late queen’s own dressmaker… He said that if I do not obey him, I’d be sent to Oldtown and I’d never see Rhaenyra again…that I’d have to marry an old squire and… and… “ Alicent choked on her words, hot tears flowing freely down her face. Her whole body was shaking with emotion. While she covered her eyes with her palms to steady the tears, she felt the plump, long arms of Viserys form a circle around her neck. To her astonishment, he pressed her wet face to his portly chest in a gesture of comfort. This was not an act Ser Otto often indulged in. Gradually her breath slowed to a normal pace, the stream of tears stopped. She freed herself from Viserys’ embrace and faced him. She could barely make out his face in the darkness, but somehow she knew him to be furious.
“Do not worry, child. You will not be forced to leave the capital anytime soon. I am grateful for the friendship you have offered me so far and ask for no more of it.” He took both her hands in his, giving them a gentle squeeze. “In return, I promise you and Rhaenyra will not be separated. I know how much she values your friendship. Only trust in me, and make no mention of this to your father. I will deal with him. Do you understand?”
“I do”, Alicent said quietly. Trusting men never came easy to her, but she had no other choice.

Day 1 - Helpless
@febuwhump day 1!!!
CW: Mean caretaker (who is caretaking against his will), said caretaker making whumpee cry, multiple mentions of drug abuse, one mention of broken glass, one mention of broken bones, little hints of classism and ableism, annoyance at whumpee's fidgeting.
Notes: Top ten men who break the Hippocratic oath by being fucking losers. Happy Febuwhump Day 1!!!! As this challenge continues, I may link related stories together. For those who are new, welcome to the hellscape!
***
They’re still awake. Of course they’re still awake.
And sure, Seiah may be a medic, clinically certified and all, but hell if it means he can’t be pissed off at Felic Fucking DiMaggio.
“You got percs?” That idiot, the little whiny rat quietly digging a hole into the sofa cushion, hadn’t talked in almost fifteen minutes, which Seiah had hoped meant they’d be falling back into half-sleep soon enough. No such luck.
“No,” he snaps, hazel eyes tinged with streaks of insomnia roll up at them over his laptop. “Forty minutes and you can have more meds. I’m trying to study.”
Back to silence. Or almost— he swear he can hear threads ripping with every quiet tap of Felic’s fingernails against the seam. Just because it’s an old couch doesn’t mean anything. Just because they’re a 'friend' doesn’t mean anything.
“Do you need a stress ball or something?” He’s trying to be nice. He really is.
“You got one?” They still sound seconds from crying, or maybe that’s just the city drawl, thick in the back of their nose like they’ll hack it up with a hairball. They sound sick, look sick, they always look sick. Sick when they’re tweaking in meetings and sick now, bits of glass and two fractures in their leg and still they’re acting like they’re using every little scheming wrinkle in their brain to act normal. Not normal; something worse. Someone competent, or well-off, or anything other than a leech tagging along with the Rift Guard to seem like a savior.
And they reek like burning plastic.
He digs through his desk drawer. “Best I’ve got is a box of paperclips.” It leaves his hand with a rattle, a tinny sound that makes Felic twitch their head with a grimace, as the box hits their leg and falls into the cushion divot. They seem to paw it like a cat. “I can check the bedroom, but I need Gabe to rest…” he trails off.
“Nah, ‘s fine, ‘s fine.” They’ve maneuvered into some other horribly contorted position, leg still dangling off the couch like something dead. He hopes they’re content. He swears, if they’re not… but no, now it’s back to his pediatrics assignment, back to… reading this same section, again, and...
Holy fucking shit.
They’re using the paperclips. To pick at the fucking couch.
“No. No, you know what? Screw this.” Maybe it’s that stupid ugly couch, or his own lack of sleep, or how disgustingly pitiful they look in an oversized hoodie and bandages down an entire pale, skinny leg. “Done studying. Not even gonna try. Is that what you wanted? You want my attention? Gonna keep me up another three fucking hours because your tummy hurts when I don’t let you take every pill in this city?”
Maybe he should’ve thought that through more. Maybe, but it’s too late. Sue him. If this bitch wakes up Gabe, if they disrupt the final second of peace anywhere in this world at all—
They’re crying. No, no, no.
Shit, they’re crying.
“Felic.” His whisper-yells get more frantic. “Felic. Felic. Felic, hey, no, Felic, I’m sorry, I didn’t, I’m just tired, we’re all tired, Felic please,” out of his chair and onto the ground in front of them, they’re shaking like a leaf, no sounds but little sob-hiccups as their hands twist and wring themselves in their sleeves. They really are some helpless little thing, a pigeon stuck in a storm drain. “Look at me, look, I’m not mad at you. I’m not mad at you. Calm down, calm down, just, I didn’t even do anything Felic, please just do this for me please…”
A knock at the door. Gabe.
“What’s going on?” His voice is rough with sleep, hair falling in curls over his eyes. And Seiah loves him, he loves him so much, but the look on his face when he sees Felic. As if they deserve it. As if the rat deserves any of this. “Did they have a nightmare?”
“They were never asleep at all, actually, which is—“
The glare Gabe gives him shuts him up quick.
“You need to give them space.” He motions Seiah away, impatient yet calm, locking eyes with the hairball having a breakdown on the couch.
“No, listen, everything’s fine.”
“Clearly it’s not,” he retorts, still as calm as ever. “Go get some rest, Seiah, I’ve got this.”
“We need to talk about this later.”
“Yes. Later. Shh,” he motions, and now he’s back to Felic, and it’s like Seiah isn’t here at all. Is this what his fucking job at the Rift Guard is? Keeping the rats on a leash?
Well, there’s no reason to stay here anyways. Seiah rises to his feet, computer abandoned, boyfriend preoccupied with a little bitch.
Whatever. It’s not even a nice couch anyways.
He shuts the door.

It wasn't hard to recognize one of villain's dreams nowadays. But then, the villain had stopped trying to hide what they were doing a while ago.
The hero stormed through the filigreed doors, left so invitingly open. This time the dreamscape was a seaside palace, all vaulted golden stone and sweet breezes drifting through the empty corridors. The hero kept their head down and tried not to look at any of the elegantly wrought detail as they marched grimly towards the sounds of music and windchimes.
At the center of the palace was a lavish receiving hall, banners fluttering and tables overflowing with platters of food and trays of glasses. And here was the only other occupant of the palace; the villain, lounging on their throne, gowned and crowned with a decadence to make Kubla Khan blush. Their mask today was ivory white feathers, shaded to bronze at the edges. An night owl. Haha.
"Really?" the hero said, ignoring the smells wafting past their nose. Dream food wasn't real, all it left in the morning was a bellyache and a sickening empty feeling. "Is this how you see yourself?"
The villain raised a hand languidly, admiring the jewels dripping from their fingers. "We're in your brain, my dear. So I think the question is, is this you see me? More to the point..." They sat up, leaned an elbow on their knee. "Is this how you see yourself?"
A shallow reflecting pool flashed into existence at the hero's feet. They looked before they could stop themselves. The reflection staring dazedly back looked like 5 miles of fresh hell - bruised and bloodied face, hair soaked in sweat, tattered mouse-gray chain mail held together with bits of wire and string. It was an alarmingly accurate picture of the hero's mental state.
"What story are we telling tonight? Are you my loyal paladin, returning to safety at my side?" the villain mused, patting a cushion at their feet in invitation. "A brave knight delving strange and magical lands who stumbles on this seductive vision of beauty?"
"Stop this," the hero said, broken. "Please. The nightmares were better than this."
Somewhere that disembodied music made a discordant twang. The hero flinched. "Liar," said the villain with a sad shake of their head. They stood in a great rustling of fabric and light. A cold wind and the sound of cruel laughter cut through the hall. "You know what happens when you lie to me."
"Who are you! Why are you doing this?" the hero screamed at the figure standing over them. "You want to kill me, come at me! Why - why these games?"
"Any half-powered idiot with a knife and some luck could kill you," the villain scoffed. They processed down the stairs and into the shallow waters of the reflecting pond, robes floating across the surface. "I'm going to break you. And if you think we're having fun now, oh, just wait and see what I have planned for you once you're entirely mine."
The hero howled and flung themselves forward. The villain let them get close. And then golden bars sprung up and the hero crashed painfully into them, fingers inches from that horrible feathered mask.
"Spoils of war," the villain declared, filling in the rest of the cage around the hero with a flick of their head. "A warrior captured and helpless, on display for all to see, at the mercy of your worst yet sexiest enemy."
The cruel laughter welled again. The rest of the hall was filling with the hero's friends, foes, family, their junior high chemistry teacher. Pointing and laughing.
"When you wake up," the villain said, "Remember I offered you a kinder dream."
The hero shuddered and clenched their eyes shut. "It's not real," they whispered. "It's not real."
The villain reached through the bars, turning the hero's chin up to the scrutiny of that cruelly beautiful bird of prey mask.
"It's adorable," the villain said dreamily, "how you say that every time. Nighty night."
And the hero fell backwards into the reality of the dream.

hi, i adore your customs so much! ^^ i've been having trouble finding clear eye chips that fit 1998 furbies properly (14mm ones weren't thick enough and fell off even with glue). i was wondering where you got your eye chips from, or if you have a different process
Hello! Thank you so much! That means a lot ❤️!
Unfortunately almost every glass eye chips I have found online have had some issues. 🫠🫠🫠 So there isn't a "perfect" purchase out there. They are either over priced, came broken, or were too thick where the eyelids couldn't shut.
However, these were the best and closest options on Amazon I could find, they are the closest size (they're a little small but it's not noticeable) and most weren't too thick, but it only is for about 20 of them/purchase and that's if all of them are the right height;
With glass bead replacements I always make sure to place the glass beads into the sockets before gluing just to make sure that they fit and aren't too thick. Typically though you can tell just by looking at them and I recommend always doing this even with the above link, because each piece is a different size and some may be a lil' too big!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But honestly? Sometimes I don't want to bother using glass ones because like you had said they are hard to stay glued in. So what you can also do is soak the original eyecaps in some acetone! I soak mine for a few hours, take them out, and with a Qtip I lightly brush off the paint. Once the Qtip isn't releasing anymore of the paint you put it back in the acetone and wait. It takes some time and I learned there's about 4 layers of paint to go through. Then once it's all clear you just wash it with soap and water and let air dry. They should be clear and have some of the line engravings in them still which can make a cool eye texture for the furby! This also will reduce waste! So I highly recommend doing this method as well if the eyes weren't damaged by removal!
I did this method for my Succubus Furby Aggie and I absolutely love the line engravings;
Tumblr media
And as for glue I am still figuring out the best method! I know that either glue you use you should always seal the eye design with something. Either clear spray paint finish or mod podge just to make sure that the design won't be damaged by the glue from the eyechip (Because no air can go between it so this sometimes causes the eye design to bleed and it makes for a mess under the eyechips).
Modpodge works great to attach the eyechip to the eye sockets however I have had better luck with either Super Glue GEL or Hot Glue for gluing the eye chips to the eye pattern! Hot glue it just hard to not make a mess with and you have to be fast or it'll dry and be too thick. I always place a small drop in the center of the eye design and then quickly put the eye chip ontop and push it down. This spreads the glue across the pattern for a clearer look. But be careful to not burn yourself and if you are using glass chips they also can get really hot. Also air bubbles can be your enemy so make sure there are enough glue sticks that won't cause it to sputter out and make air bubbles!
But realistically. My fav is still Super Glue Gel. It just gives a smoother look and dries quickly without moisture. So for me personally I do the following method;
Mod podge to seal the design -> Let Dry -> Super Glue Gel drop on design and then press eye chip onto it -> Let it dry over night -> Mod podge/Super Glue whole eye chip w/ design into sockets. -> Let cure for a day -> Use alcohol to clean off any clouding on top of eyechip that may occur from the super glue.
I hope this helps!!!!

Consequence (Joel Miller x OC)
Tumblr media
Summary: What if Joel survived his injuries from the Abby and Fireflies attack but ends up with really bad amnesia. He can’t remember his wife, Ellie, or the Outbreak; only before. How will his family bring back the man they once knew?
Pairing: Joel Miller x OC
Notes:I apologise its been so long since my last chapter, for some reason was struggling to get this one right but I'm satisfied with what I've ended up with...I personally think the first half of this is stronger than the second but now we can move onto the really juicy bits of the story and work our way towards the ending!! Hope you enjoy!! Please like and review!! <3
Chapter Twenty Nine
The building was empty as they forced their way inside. The roof had caved in, leaving the elements to claim back whatever it wanted. The floor was water damaged and rotten. The walls were green with damp moss and vines that engulfed any mark of man-made structures. And flowers had even started to bloom along the old stands that once held witnesses to face the injustices in the old world. Joel found there was a cruel sense of irony that even over two decades later there were still souls who thought injustices needed to be punished…only in this world they’d take on the role of judge, jury and executioner all on their own. Himself included. He didn’t know how to feel about the fact that Ellie seemed to be taking on those roles herself now…and it was because of him.
He watched with bated breath as she made her way ahead of him, kicking at the loose debris in her frustration of finding the building empty. “They’re not here! Fuck!” She hissed angrily. “Easy kiddo, we'll find her. Maybe Jesse and Tommy are havin' better luck, their side of town.” He attempted to reassure her... and himself if he was being honest. He already blamed himself for Ada getting captured in the first place. Those bastards had been searching for him and took Ada to use as bait. And now Ellie was hurting because they’d taken her mother.
They stood in the silence for a moment as Ellie looked around for any indication that the WLF had been here but found only debris and old shadows of a world long dead. Maybe now was the time to try with her… try to gauge what she was thinking…
“Ellie…” he tried but she quickly brushed it off as she fought through the broken building searching for supplies both of them knew weren’t there. She was avoiding him. Again. And Joel tried to ignore the dull sting of hurt he felt from it. “Ellie…” He tried again but he heard her slamming her way through the back room before storming out again. “Stupid…fucking door…nothing worth taking…stupid fucking roof and fucking water…god…damn it!” She slammed and kicked, throwing rocks at the cracked glass. Joel rushed to her side to hold her, comfort her. “Hey…hey...Ellie…easy okay…just…” He whispered in an attempt to soothe her. But felt his heart break when she pushed him away. “No! Fucking…don’t Joel! Just don’t…” He backed off hands held in surrender as he tried to tread carefully here. He didn't want a repeat of what happened when he and Ada had told her the truth back in Utah, he didn’t think could handle it again.
So instead he gave her space to breath, as she leaned back against one of the stands. Her hands shaking as tears rain down her face. And it killed him that he couldn’t hug her. Tell her that everything would be okay. He stood frozen in place as he watched her break down. Her sobs echoed in the empty space between them. Joel took a step forward and tentatively moved to sit beside her. “Ellie…” he uttered. “It's okay…just talk to me…”
She sniffled against the tears as she wiped at her eyes harshly, leaving them red and bloodshot. “I can’t…” She croaked brokenly. “Why not?” He asked.
“Because you fucking died Joel!” She sobbed and he felt his whole body turn cold at her words. He supposed he had. Even if it was just for a little while. And even when he’d woken up, he’d been a different person. He guessed to her and Ada their Joel had died. He sat beside her and said nothing. What could he say?
He glanced across at her as she stared at the floor, her hands still shaking, tears still escaping her eyes. “You fucking died and now you’re here and it’s like I’m talking to a ghost. It fucking haunts me.” She whispered, her nails picking at the skin of her thumbs until they bled. Joel resisted the urge to reach over and take ahold of her hands to stop her from doing it. She’d always fidgeted when she was stressed or upset. To the point he’d had to put bandages around her hands because she’d made them bleed so badly when they’d first arrived in Jackson. She’d been terrified that she wouldn’t fit in or that she wouldn't make any friends. He and Ada had done what they could to make sure she was settling in okay. But mostly she’d kept to herself.
He listened as she sighed and finally found the courage to look him in the eye. And Joel almost broke down himself when he saw just how red and sore her eyes were. “I was angry for so long… but when you came home I was a stranger to you and it seemed so fucking stupid to be mad at you for something you couldn’t even remember doing…I guess I’m just tired Joel…I’m so fucking tired.” She breathed softly as she slid down what was left of the stand and sat on the bench. It creaked slightly under her weight as she lifted her legs up and tucked her knees under her chin.
She looked so small. And he was tired of not being able to comfort her, he moved to take a seat beside her again. Nudging her side gently with his knee as she turned to look at him with those big green eyes, welling up with tears again. In the end he caves, reaching out for her and pulling her close in an embrace to comfort her.
“Oh baby girl…I don’t regret savin' your life. I will never regret that. But I’m sorry I took that choice away from you…I just wanted to keep you safe.” It's the best he can give and he hopes it's enough. Hopes it's enough to bring her back. Because he means every single word. Just like he did that night on the porch.
‘If somehow the Lord gave me a second chance at that moment... I would do it all over again.’ There is no doubt. Not even a speck of doubt in his heart. He hears her hiccup another sob but this time she doesn’t scream, she doesn’t pull away. She listens and so with his eyes squeezed shut, he takes a breath and knows he can’t lie to her again.
And so… he tells the truth.
“You wanted your life to mean somethin'…whose to say it doesn’t? Now? To me and your mom? And Dina…Jesse and Tommy…You may not have saved the world baby girl but you saved us. You saved me…”
“What do you mean?” She utters as she lifts her head to stare at him. And he knows he’s said too much now. There’s no going back. He has to tell her. As he does the guilt pulls at him when he realizes that he couldn’t even bring himself to tell Ada or Tommy.
“I wanted to end it…” he finally confessed. “When I got my memories back…I knew I needed to finish this once and for all. I was ready… I was gonna walk right in there and give myself up, I was headin' to Texas you know? I was gonna say my last goodbyes to Sarah and then that was it.” He feels her turn rigid in his arms as he speaks. But he tugs a little and rests his chin on her head and his heart warms at the sensation of her snuggling a little closer into his frame. “But then I found your mom and I knew I couldn't go through with it. I wasn’t ready to die…not yet. I remembered you tellin' me to get up…to fight back. It took me a while but…I’m listenin' now…I’m doin' it.”
She doesn’t speak after he finishes. Instead he feels her wrap her arms around his middle and hug him as she sobs into his jacket. He cradles the back of her head like he did when she was younger, like he did the day he found her after she killed David. And slowly he rocks her back and forth. He lets her cry, lets her break down. Because he can tell she’s been bottling it up for so long to protect everyone else. She may be older but deep down, Joel knows she is still only a kid. Only nineteen years old. And she will always be his baby girl no matter how old she is.
“I’m sorry…” She sniffles, its quiet. Barely there as she muffles the words into his jacket where she’s hidden her face in his chest. But Joel still hears her. And when he does he immediately pulls back and cups her cheeks. His callous thumbs wiping away the leftover tears that fall. “Hey now… don’t you ever apologize to me. You have nothin' to be sorry for.. you hear me? You had every right to hate me…”
“I don’t…I could never…” She hiccups again as she shakes her head. Gasping for air as she tries to fight away another sob that takes her breath away. Almost like she’s fighting to say the words. But she's determined to win.
“You’re…you’re my dad. And I could never hate you.” Joel smiles through his own tears that water in his eyes. Pressing a kiss on the top of her head as he hugs her again. He doesn’t know what he did to deserve this second chance with her but he knows he won’t waste it. He stands and dries his eyes as he composes himself as he reaches out to help Ellie to her feet.
This time she gladly accepts his help.
“Come on kiddo.. let’s head back hopefully Dina’s got some more intel over that radio.”
She smiles and nods as they both make their way out the broken building together.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the time they made it out; night had already fallen. Jesse followed Tommy as they made their way through towards the town hall. They’d decided to keep their flashlights off while they made their way through. Having already noticed some patrols moving through the streets; either on foot or driving around across the broken roads. Keeping to the shadows, Tommy kept on guard as he led the way.
“So how’d you get past Maria?” He whispered without turning to face Jesse. The young man breathed a laugh through his nose as he smirked.
“I didn't, she told me to go.” He explained quietly. “Was worried about you guys, you'd been gone too long.”
Tommy internally groaned at the implication in Jesse’s voice. He knew he'd been gone longer than he’d promised but they hadn’t expected it would take so long to find Joel and now they had, things seemed to be spiralling out of control. Tommy knew they wouldn’t rest until they’d either killed Joel or they wiped them all out. Either way he tried to spin it, he didn’t see things ending well.
“Yeah I bet that’s gone over well with her…” he muttered lowly, but Jesse just smiled kindly, nudging the man to stop for a moment as Tommy turned to look at him.
“She’s worried. Mostly about you. A little pissed that you’ve been gone so long though. But she gets it…I think.” he said the words gently, knowing that the older man was already feeling guilty. He appreciated Jesse trying to be considerate. He’d always liked the boy, he was a good friend to Ellie. And was always one of the first to volunteer for anything the town needed doing. Whether it was covering people’s patrols or helping with supply runs, nothing was too big or too much effort for him and Tommy found he quite admired the boy’s kind heart. He reminded him of himself when he was younger. Before the military and the fireflies had gotten their clutches into him and tried turning him into something he wasn’t. He was grateful that Jackson was a place where Jesse wouldn’t ever have to go through that. He’d been raised well. And he knew when Dina was ready to tell him; he was certain he’d step up and be a damned good father too.
“We’ve been through worse.” Tommy replied with a sigh. They had. He just hoped this time wouldn’t be the last. “However, as I was passing through a ritzy part of town back in Salt Lake City, I came across this necklace. It sparkles a lot. I think it’s real gold.”
Jesse smirked as he continued to follow the older man.
“You think it’s real gold?” He asked sceptically.
“Oh, it’s real gold.”
“Let's see it.”
“I know what real gold looks like.” Tommy chuckled as they continued through towards the town center.
“If it’s legit, can we say it’s from all of us?” Jesse asked with a muffled chuckle as Tommy rolled his eyes at the young man beside him. “Ha! Find your own damn bribes.” he retorted. He heard Jesse breath a laugh through his nose as the two slowed to a halt as they took cover behind an old car, its frame broken and half-burned. The street was busy with WLF soldiers though Tommy didn’t recognize any of them.
They waited and watched as the patrols made their way passed. A whole group of them moved through towards the riverside where old water pipes had burst, reshaping the old downtown subway into a new water system. A few men seemed to be preparing a boat while others moved supplies to the truck before continuing further down what remained of the streets. Tommy watched with narrowed eyes as a very familiar face emerged from a side street. The braid hanging down her back gave her away instantly. Abby. She walked along beside a soldier towards the makeshift dock as she helped load the last of the supplies before climbing in, starting the engine and speeding off down the river. Tommy felt his blood run cold at the possibility of her getting away. He couldn’t allow it. Not when he was so close. There was another boat tied to the dock; if he moved now, he could just about make it and still have a chance of catching her up. But as he moved to stand; a hand harshly pulled him back.
“Hold it! Tommy, look it’s the town hall…” Jesse hissed in a low whispered shout, Tommy glanced at where he was pointing, the building was large but seemed to only be guarded by a skeleton crew this late at night. Looking back at the dock, he knew he had to make a choice.
“No, we're taking that boat.” He said sternly. The younger man blanched at his words as he looked at him in earnest. “But you heard them right? They’re talking about Ada…” He knew he was referring to the message they’d heard over the radio. And while it was possible they were talking about Ada, Tommy knew she’d be grateful to him taking the chance to track down Joel’s would be- killer. He shook his head defiantly as he shrugged slightly. “We don’t know that.” He uttered. “Who else is it going to be?!” Jesse challenged in return but Tommy was losing his patience and he didn’t have time to argue while Abby was getting further away. And more importantly, towards somewhere Tommy couldn’t track.
“Ada can take care of herself, she’s already taken out one of their guys. Abby is who we’re after…if we just follow-” “...What if she’s in trouble? We don’t know what they're doing to her…” Jesse interrupted as he shook his head, huffing in frustration but the older man couldn’t find it in himself to care. They were wasting time! And Tommy needed to move now, if he had any chance to catch her up. Ada would understand that. Of course she would. Wouldn’t she? Would Joel?
“She’ll be fine.” Tommy decided. “They wont hurt her while they’re trying to get ahold of Joel. And Abby is behind all of this. We take her out, then this is over. This is our chance.”
“Jesus Christ.” The younger man swore as looked at Tommy with disappointment in his eyes, but he knew he wouldn’t see it from his side. He hadn’t been there that day. Hadn’t seen the hatred in her eyes as she’d beaten his brother to within an inch of his life. Left barely breathing and a shell of his former self. Tommy still felt the pain in his ribs from being held down as they tortured Joel. Even now it still haunted him. And there was no way in hell Tommy was just going to let her walk away.
“The best way to help Ada and Joel is to go after Abby.” He tried as he looked at Jesse with a pleading stare; hoping that he’d relent and agree to come with him. But he saw the determination his Jesse’s eyes that reflected back at him. It was the same look he’d seen in Ellie’s when they’d first learned of Joel’s disappearance. He realized in that moment that Jesse wasn’t doing this for himself. He was doing it for his loyalty to Ellie and his respect for Ada. There was no getting him to change his mind.
“I really hope you get her…” Jesse uttered with a kind smile before he took off towards the direction of the town hall. Tommy nodded in respect for the boy’s resolve as he watched him go before taking off in the opposite direction; as he headed towards the last boat that was left docked. He didn’t know it would be the last time he would ever see Jesse alive.

WIP Wednesday
I've been plugging away at the aroace!Mario wip recently; I'm hoping I can get it posted in June, both for my birthday and arospec awareness week, but its still a bit too early to know if I'll make it, haha. I have a lot of the fic written already thanks to that burst of inspiration I'd had last fall; I just need to fill in a few more scenes and then do a crapton of editing. This fic's style got a bit experimental, lmao. And I'm piss awful at writing any romance or romance-adjacent things so that'll be fun for future-me to wrestle with. And also it's clocking in at 9.3k and still climbing 😅
Anyway here's the beginning of the fic because I nailed it pretty much first try and I quite like it!
~~~
Mario couldn't tell you to this day why he’d gone to rescue Princess Peach the first time.
He'd hardly seen as much of a glimpse of her in the first few weeks after he and Luigi moved to the outskirts of Toad Town, busy as they were settling in. Sure, there were photographs of her in various houses they'd done plumbing jobs in, and the far off stained glass of the castle itself, but it hadn’t been until their self-proclaimed best friend Toad (one of dozens, all content to share the same moniker to an extent) had cheerfully cajoled them into attending an upcoming parade in town that he’d gotten to see her in person for the first time.
She’d stood on a parade float, waving to the crowd with a smile, and Mario’s first thought had been that she was more beautiful than those photos could even try to do justice.
Every Toad they'd met spoke of her reverently yet fondly, and over the course of the next few weeks he’d seen her around town now and then. Her kindness was overflowing, filling the hearts of her people and spilling out to touch Mario and Luigi in turn, relative strangers to their town. So the morning they’d woken up and found out she’d been stolen in the night, Mario couldn't help but want to repay this town — his home — by getting her back.
So maybe he could tell you why, after all.
Regardless, he'd had no idea what he’d gotten himself into.
Honestly, a lot of the rescue mission had come down to luck and good timing and the element of surprise. He hardly remembered the back half of it, hopped up on adrenaline and stubborn determination and whatever Mushrooms and power-ups the Toads along the way had chosen to stuff him with. He still had no clue what the deal was with that giant axe Bowser had, or why it was so near the cables to a bridge, but he’d tripped on it anyway and knocked it over, sending both the bridge and the brute dropping into lava. He’d needed a few minutes to catch his breath afterwards; he’d honestly thought he’d never get to see Luigi again after failing that stunt.
With the kidnapper dealt with, all that had been left was to escort the kidnappee home. Finding her cell hadn’t been hard; it was right beyond the room he'd fought Bowser in. She’d looked surprised to see him, he remembered, like she hadn't expected to be rescued at all. That thought had made him sad.
The beginning of the long trek home had been quiet, at first. It was Mario’s first time truly being up close to her since a few days after that parade when she’d come up to him and Luigi while they were having lunch to introduce herself and personally welcome them to the town. (Something that’d had his brother hyperventilating afterwards about chatting with royalty. Mario’s panic had been much further buried by comparison.) But then something had broken the ice; Mario couldn't have told you what it was, only that by the time they stepped into town they had been chatting and laughing like friends. Beyond the royal airs, she was a woman who was surprisingly easy to talk to. Though by the looks of everyone in town afterwards, maybe she wasn't like that for everyone.
And that was when Mario’s problems had started.
Room Temperature
for kloktober day 5: Abigail Appreciation Day
synopsis: meet Jane during an evening at home with her "gal pal" Abigail.
I wanted to flex my newfound female OC-building skills, so here's Jane, a gay club owner/real estate investor, whose situationship has taken a really weird turn.
“Exhaustion, huh?”
Jane grabbed the remote and nestled back into her spot on the couch without spilling a drop of wine. She pulled her hair from her eyes, then gathered it all to the right to keep it out of Abigail’s mouth before she let her head rest. She took a sip: the sangria she’d made wasn’t cold enough for her thirst. The clicks of the TV flickering between channels, then streaming services, shot through the rush of the city streets below.
“I’m not going to make you talk about it, I was just saying-“
“I’m ok talking about it, I just don’t get what you want me to say.”
Abigail flexed her upper back and sat up, leaving Jane to awkwardly lay against the warm spot in the throw pillows. “I’m going to take a lap.” Her footsteps across the shag carpet living room were silent. To get the subway-tiled greige bathroom door to close, she had to kick away a purple brush jammed full of auburn hair. When it clattered against the baseboard, Jane stood up to grab it, her leg hair prickling from a sudden chill.
She caught a look at herself in the floor-length mirror at the end of the hallway and shrunk. Tall as she was, moisturized, dressed in pajamas she loved (for their comfort AND the way her breasts poked the front forward, nipples prominent but casual and covered,) being there for Abigail was still tough.
It wasn’t the way Jane’s wet hair made Abby gag, or the lethargy, or the nights Abigail came to work with her, watching queers the world over sweat and rejoice in strobe-lit dancefloors, just so she wouldn’t have to be alone with insomnia. It wasn’t not knowing, it wasn’t coming to accept that what had happened to Abigail was perfectly senseless and unexplainable. The press talked about Magnus’ suicide as an equal tragedy and it left the both of them speechless. In their bed, when they could share it, Jane’s adoration and relief came second to laying with only their feet touching, pulling different blankets around their shoulders. Jane thought she understood all that. She drove to the appointments, she cooked, she was patient, she didn’t press, she didn’t ask Abigail for anything, and she knew Abigail wouldn’t give it if it wasn’t necessary or requested. She’d save her energy, she’d heal in time, she kept moving. All Jane could do was wait and hope it kept her in the picture.
But she cheated. With a man. With an insanely rich and stupid man.
They’d been trapped in a situationship for years, showing up at each other’s apartments, swapping spit after a couple fruity blended drinks, “networking”... Her Dethklok contract was her retirement fund. She’d lucked out. Jane kept buying properties, finding managers, firing people, selling properties for double what she paid for them, raising the property values in downtowns and abandoned sites of Dethklok’s concerts (rubble and ruins and broken glass.)
She hoped she was over that damage of a lesbian worrying that a man could do her job better for the bisexual community, but it came back like a poorly aged joke in a favorite movie. Nathan Explosion, half-witted, spoiled, incoherently mumbling and screaming, might be better than her after all.
But nothing was too good for Abigail.
She came out of the bathroom with brighter eyes and her bathrobe tied. “Ok. You ready to watch ER?”
“Yeah. Want some edamame?” What was popcorn to salty, hot beans?
“I think I’m OK. Meet me at the sofa in five?”
“Always.”
