ZUYOO’S NOTES — noOOoO 10 images limit on tumblr mobile app ( ꒦ິ ཀ ꒦ິ ) word count is probably a little over 1000 if not more than that.. ok ily enjoy reading MWAAA
p.s. i love u, everyone who leaves feedback and/or reactions with all my life :DD it just makes me feel so motivated in writing, thank you all sm!!
Tumblr media
it started with one message, which lead to another… then another… then more. you two instantly clicked right after being attending the same club in your university. you’ve seen him before, and thought that he looked hard to approach—since he’s always on his phone, barely talks, and is always either practicing, in class, or out of reach (in his dorm)
you two grew close after talking about similar interests, and it didn’t take too long for you to develop feelings for him. i mean… how could you not when he has treated you way better than any other man who’s walked out of you life?
he messages you on a daily basis, doesn’t hesitate to come over and take care of you when you tell him that you aren’t feeling well, treats you to meals, drives you home, tries new hobbies because you told him you like those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
nagi has the looks, the talent, the brain, the skill, the body that a girl could ask for. you’re simply lucky enough to be near his presence—and oh boy how all the girls that see you two together makes you feel it.
their glares and side glances sharp as a knife, it gave you goosebumps all over. but you eventually paid no mind to their stares, the only thing that mattered at the moment is how you’d spend your day with nagi!
it’s been three years since your first interaction with him, and you two haven’t changed a thing. take it with a grain of salt. yes, you two still teach each other the way you think, and no, he is not your anything—just a friend.
he’s such a fish to catch that you’re surprised why he’s still not seeing anyone at this point. maybe there was some point that you’ve thought about how there could be possibility that he could like you the way you like him, which is stopping him from seeing anyone else.
or maybe his actions has raised your hopes up and made you delusional. how could you know? you’ve been friends for three whole years now, yet you still can’t read him.
Tumblr media
he left you on delivered? that’s new. well- it was bound to happen. it’s not like he’s obligated to reply or at least leave a reaction… right? right. you’re his best friend. nothing more, nothing less.
but what could he be doing? it’s a sunday. he doesn’t have practice, and the term just started. he couldn’t have had any assessments he needed to finish.
Tumblr media
your questions were quickly answered once you’ve opened up your twitter app and found someone unfamiliar in your timeline.
“pfft—this happens all the time.” you say. “and they’re always fake.”
and how you wished you were right.
Tumblr media
“oh.” was everything you could let out, as if that one tweet didn’t break your heart into pieces. you were glad he’s finally seeing someone—but at the same time, you had hoped that it was just a misunderstanding, that he’s actually maggy’s cousin… or something! just not her suitor. even though the signs are as clear a day.
it was petty, and this- this will hurt you, and it’ll hurt bad. so you had no other choice but to try and distance yourself away from him as much as possible, to save yourself and to respect who he’s been seeing. it was for the better… but—he was making it hard.
nagi’s completely clueless!
you didn’t know whether to laugh it out because of how oblivious he is. does he not realize what he’s doing to you?
at this point, you start to realize how none of it was your fault in the first place. you couldn’t control you feelings, and it certainly didn’t help that nagi treats you way too well.
even so, you could never blame him. it could just be in his nature, to be kind, lovable, and to be the pinnacle of a girl’s dream. and you were the one at fault because you’re taking advantage of his kindness to satisfy your curiosity regarding what it felt like being handled with genuine care, only for it to backfire—seeing that you actually fell for him big time.
still, that wasn’t your first train of thought when you met him. you genuinely wanted to be friends because he seemed like a cool guy. it just so happens that your heart begun to agitate more and more everyday when you’re with him.
or maybe it was maggy’s fau—oh my god, make up your mind, yn!!
“let’s not put the blame on everyone. whatever happened, happened. none of it matters now. i just have to get myself out of this mess… then i’ll be back to same, old me. right.” you thought to yourself.
you have been ignoring nagi for the past three days, leaving him on delivered, and practically scrambling away when you see him in the hallways—or everywhere, actually.
did you tell him why you’re doing this? no, why would you?
does he care? a lot, as a friend, most likely.
he’s been trying to reach you for the past 3 days, while you were off running everywhere but to the places you and nagi went to together, which is hard because you’ve both been to every cafe, every movie theater, every arcade, every mall your city could offer.
there was this one place you two haven’t been in yet. it was perfect for admiring the view below, or simply a place to just clear your mind.
you planned on going there after classes were over, and it made you quite excited. you were supposed to go here with nagi but… you know, things happened. nonetheless, you wanted to enjoy this, even if it meant not being able to bring nagi with you.
after class ended, you bid your farewell to your friends before getting into a cab and going to the rooftop lounge that recently just opened.
you opened the door that leads to the lounge and was surprised by what greeted you at the door.
it was nagi, with maggy. their hands intertwined as they admire the city.
ouch. seeing them like that felt like ten thousand trains running me over.
you were about to leave when you heard her call for your name. you froze on the spot, a course of thoughts ran through your brain on whether to run for it, or play a good face and not ignore her calls.
“y/n! come join us.”
you made the decision to turn around and approach them instead… she waved and smiled at you. god—how can you make such a lovely woman?!
it was too late to run anyways, you felt their eyes on you when you froze by the door, it would be far too embarrassing to just leave with them knowing that you heard maggy call for you.
“hey, i couldn’t reach you.”
nagi greeted. you briefly glanced into his eyes and gave him a smile before breaking eye contact. you could barely look into his eyes—you might burst out crying if you stare any longer.
“i was busy.”
you replied, dryly. you really were busy; busy with assessments, busy distracting yourself from your feelings, busy doing whatever it takes to forget about nagi… but if you two keep meeting like this—and if he keeps trying to talk to you, it will pose a challenge for you to fully move on.
why do you have to let it linger? you ask him in your mind as if he could read it. his constant concern for your wellbeing, his actions towards you, his daily messages checking up on whether you’ve eaten your meals yet—why does he have to let your feelings for him linger?
unknowingly, sure. but has he have not a single clue on why you’ve been distancing yourself? on why you haven’t been hanging around much?
you missed him, really. but this was the perfect distance for you both. he can keep reaching out until the day he gets sick of it; but as much as you want to respond to him, you can’t—you shouldn’t.
the following months were practically the hell. you’ve completely cut off contact with him (you ghosted him, basically) and was buried in a never-ending cycle of homework and projects, leaving no time for anything else.
when the semester ended, your friend, bachira, invited you to his party. he noticed that you were completely restless and said that you needed to loosen up a little.
it was 12 in the evening but the party has just begun—you could consider yourself a fan of staying at home in my comfy pajamas and old indie movies, rather than a party ‘til sunrise & drink ‘til you drop type of person… which lead you to excusing yourself out of the room with flashing lights and booming music to find somewhere else more peaceful to drink.
you found yourself on a huge balcony with a red cup on your hand. thank the gods that the doors muffles out the noise coming from the inside.
this was just right. and honestly what you needed. all that workload from the past few weeks has been killing you.
what you didn’t expect was for someone to break the silence you gave yourself.
“it was about time i saw you again. and out of all the places i thought i would see you in, a party was not one of them.”
nagi spoke nonchalantly. his sudden interjection jolted you out of your own thoughts. it’s been about six months since you’ve broke off contact with him. hell, you could barely remember his voice.
“oh fuc-… ah. i’m sorry- i should find another place.”
“no. stay. you owe me an explanation.”
maybe it was just you, but given where this conversation is headed… he sounded intimidating. his voice didn’t change much, perhaps it didn’t change at all, but you heard the sharpness of his words and felt the need to comply to whatever he says.
“sorry.”
“sorry doesn’t cut it, y’know?”
he lightly chuckled before mixing his drink around his own red cup that he brought.
“right… sorry. but, how are you? how’s maggy?”
“ah. it didn’t work out. she’s nice but it really isn’t working out for us.”
“oh. sorry.”
that was a surprise. you thought they’d still be all lovey-dovey with each other. maggy is a lovely girl, what could’ve gotten wrong?
“another apology and i’ll keep bothering you. you wouldn’t like that won’t you? considering how you’ve completely ghosted me for 6 months without an explanation or even a subtle hint of why you did it? right?”
“hey-!”
okay… maybe he hasn’t changed that much. he still holds his grudges. nagi broke eye contact and looked up to the moon with this… yearning look on his face—he looked so pretty, it was pathetic!!
a sigh left your lips before nervously starting to explain you side, since you felt like he really needed to know why. plus, it was a good chance to let go of that burden.
maybe a confession was nagi’s needed closure, and your way of letting go of the guilt of knowing you’ve randomly disappeared in his life without him even knowing anything.
“i like… liked. you, nagi. more than a friend should’ve.”
“what?”
his actions came to a halt. oh, he was THAT clueless
“aha—yeah… but then there came maggy. she was such a lovely person, and i know you deserved to be loved like that. i should’ve been happy for you, but i really couldn’t bring myself to. it hurts seeing my best friend whom i’ve liked for the longest time smile because of a person they’re romantically involved with, y’know?”
you weren’t able to find the strength to look at him as you explained, but it felt like a weight was lifted off of your shoulders after.
“i-”
“no, don’t say anything. i just really needed to let that out… for your sake, and mine. i also wanted to thank you. y’know—for everything. you’ve been a great best friend, nagi.”
“okay but-”
he didn’t get to say whatever he wanted to say because the door that leads to the party suddenly opened, revealing a tipsy bachira.
“y/n!! here you are~ and nagi too!!”
bachira gleefully said before dragging y/n back inside, leaving nagi alone in the balcony.
he watched your figure get lost in the crowd of people partying without end, saying:
“ah-… i liked you…too?”

Things to Do Today
1. Sober up and get rid of hangover
2. Ponder on how ridiculous this is
3. Get drunk again because I can't deal with this sober
I thought they were off to Alpha Centauri. Living that sweet life we will never have...
Well, it seems things don't always work out for other people, too.
Obviously. But let's rewind to last night and try to sort this all out.
"I was going to mysteriously appear in your car", Beelzebub said, "but somehow I can't get in anymore."
Oh.
"Also, when I tried to miracle myself in, the car suddenly turned yellow. Like some kind of defense mechanism."
OH!
"Things have changed, Beelzebub. You have to be invited in. And I'm certainly not go... gonna do that."
"Well, that's all right." They take a step closer. "We can just talk here."
"And I certainly don't want to talk."
"I brought booze."
My eyes shift between the empty bottle I'm holding and the full bottle in their hands.
Sigh.
I throw the empty bottle into the Thames (Yes, I should litter, I'm a demon after all. And maybe some hermit crab can build a home in it. Or some little fish family. Oh, lookey here, it's Nemo and the guys.)
Beelzebub passes the full bottle to me. It's obviously not miracled out of Hell, it's good old Earth stuff.
Mhm. Smells like it, too. And I just remembered that Nemo is a saltwater fish.
And so are hermit crabs.
I take a deep sip. Well, obviously not fish, but well.. you know.
"I heard about Aziraphale," Beelzebub looks at me with a sympathetic gaze and suddenly I feel the need to throw up. "I'm sorry, things didn't work out."
Bloody Heaven! I'm not going to talk to them about Aziraphale. It's bad enough with Maggie and Nina trying to get me to talk about Aziraphale, but Beelzebub? Really?
This is one of the few times I'm actually speechless, but being a fellow demon, Beelzebub should fully well be able to read my death glare.
They do. "Well, that's all right. Gabriel and I broke up, too, and I don't want to talk about it either."
They WHAT? They thwarted both Heaven and Hell for their love and now they fall out of it after barely three months?
Lucky for the both of us, Beelzebub freezes the bottle in mid air before it smashes on the ground. They grab it, take a big sip and pass it back to me.
We stand in silence, staring at the river. All is quiet, except for the city noises in the background, the sound of the water and the occasional burp from one of us as we devour the alcohol.
I know, I'm gonna regret this. I'm gonna regret this big time.
"So", I ask, turning to Beelzebub. "What exactly happened?"

Daryl Dixon x PlusSize!Reader - oneshot
Lucky Charm
Summary: Some people in your group get the flu. Winter is coming on strong, and Daryl does his best to keep the group safe and you warm. Reader is: plus-size, good at first aid, and in love with Daryl (aren't we all?). Tropes: Bed-sharing, first kiss, confessions, unfounded jealousy, fluff Warnings: Sickness (flu), walkers, dead turkey, hunger, Glenn with really bad timing. Notes: This was originally part of Scars and Stitches, but it didn't fit the timeline for that. I think this works well as a standalone story. So I hope you enjoy!
Word Count: 4,600

Carl was the first one to get sick. You didn’t think much of it; kids get sick easily. But then Rick started sniffling and running a fever. Still, your group kept going.
Next day, Lori was coughing almost nonstop, and you all had to find some place to settle for a few days. Glenn and Daryl managed to locate a small house down a dirt road, some cheaply made thing with only a few windows, and most of them so tiny it’d be hard to fit through. You picked the lock, then Glenn and Maggie cleared the house.
Once everyone was inside, the sick ones were quarantined in the two bedrooms: Lori in one, with Rick and Carl in the other. Hershel explained the quarantine rules, and then everyone got to work. With Maggie, you nailed whatever you could find over the windows, leaving small lookout points on each side of the house. Meanwhile, Glenn and Daryl set up jury rigged walker alarms in the form of cans and fishing line. Hershel saw to his patients, and Beth began boiling water over the fire Daryl had made in the small fireplace of the main room.  Then, she managed to find 3 cans of green beans in the cabinets. Among the ten of you that was all you had to eat that day.
When Carol’s nose started running that night, she was put to bed with Lori.
Daryl was out the next day, from dawn to dusk. When he got back, you helped him make a couple of broths from roots and pine needles, all the food he was able to find. The sick got fed first, and what was left was shared among the rest of you.
On the bright side, you had plenty of water from a stream behind the house, and Daryl said there were no signs of walkers within half a mile radius.
You, Glenn, Maggie, and Daryl were the only ones who weren’t sick and could also take down walkers, so watch shifts were established among the four of you. Rick kept insisting on helping out, but Hershel was strict with the quarantine.
Days went by in a haze of routine. You kept watch when it was your turn and did your best to ignore how hungry you were. There was no use talking about it; all of you were going through the same thing.
On the morning of the fourth day, you sat on your sleeping bag daydreaming of spaghetti piled high with meatballs when Daryl started putting on his jacket and vest.
“Heading out?” you said.
Daryl gave you a small nod and put his crossbow over his shoulder.
“Wait up.” You got to your feet, but as you stood, the room spun. You threw a hand behind you, steadied yourself against the wall, and took a few deep breaths.
Daryl grabbed you by the bicep of your free arm. “You sick?” He blinked at you through his shaggy hair, grip tight but not painful. If you didn’t know better, you’d think he was scared. But nothing scared Daryl Dixon.
“Not sick. Hungry. Like everyone else.”
He narrowed his eyes and took a step closer.
“Just stood up too fast,” you explained. “Not the first time I’ve gone hungry. I’m fine.”
He stared at you doubtfully for another moment before releasing you. “I’ll be back soon. May be something out there I ain’t found yet.”
“I figured. I’m going with you.”
“No you ain—”
“What if you get sick, too?” you interrupted. “You’ve been running yourself ragged. Going out most of the day foraging then back here to keep watch half the night.”
He stared at you.
You gazed past him to keep from meeting his eyes. “Don’t know what I’d–-what we’d do if something happened to you.” You took a deep breath and forced yourself to look at him. “I can be as quiet as you, so stop this loner bullshit and teach me. That way I can look for food in case something happens to you.”
*
“Must be my good luck charm,” Daryl murmured, pulling the crossbow bolt out of the turkey’s skull.
You never thought you’d salivate over feathers and wrinkled turkey feet, but every single part of that bird had your mouth watering..
“Just saw it out of the corner of my eye,” you explained. “Women have better peripheral vision than men. But men have better depth perception.”
Daryl held the turkey up by the neck. “Must have been eatin’ good. Got to be more somewhere we ain’t looked.”
“Tomorrow?” you asked, thoughts going to gravy and bone soup and chunks of juicy, dark meat.
He nodded and lowered the bird. “Got your knife?”
You pulled your knife from its holster and held it out to him.
He shook his head. “Still want to learn, don’t ya?”
Revulsion was nothing compared to your hunger and need to be useful. You nodded, taking the knife in hand, its familiar handle giving you a sudden burst of determination.
“Yes.”
“Okay,” Daryl said, and he taught you to clean a turkey.
*
That night, everyone was the happiest they’d been in a while. Carefully rationed, the turkey would last you a few days more, and there was the hope of more beyond that now that Daryl knew a better place to hunt.
Maggie and Glenn insisted on sharing the night watch, so after supper, you were snuggled in your sleeping bag, content and hopeful and proud that everyone in your group had eaten that day.
Some time later, Daryl crawled into his own bed a couple of feet from yours. You couldn’t help turning to face him, your joy and excitement keeping you from sleep.
“Today was a good day,” you told him.
He gave you the briefest of nods as he settled, laying on his back, arms under his head, eyes staring up at the ceiling.
“Thanks for taking me with you. It felt good. Being useful for a change.”
“Who said you ain’t useful?”
“I’m not strong like you or Maggie, and Hershel actually knows what he’s doing. Just wanted to help, is all. So thanks.”
He didn’t say anything else–not that you expected him to–so you snuggled deeper into your bed, ready for sleep.
Beside you, Daryl shifted, getting comfortable. “You did,” he said, his voice low. “Help, I mean.”
Eyes opening slightly, you realized he was facing you, his crossbow and knife the only things separating your two beds.
“Thanks,” you said.
“It was nice. Havin’ you out there today.  You can come next time, too.”
You couldn’t suppress your joy. “Really!?”
Daryl chuckled at you, “Yeah.”
“Thanks, Daryl.”
He flashed you the smallest of smiles. “Welcome. Now get some sleep.”
*
You woke up in the middle of the night, shivering from the cold. It was freezing in here.
Through bleary eyes, you looked across the room and saw Beth, with a handkerchief covering her mouth and nose, carrying a few blankets to the bedrooms. Hershel came out a moment later, headed in your direction.
Sitting up, you rubbed the tiredness from your eyes. “Beth sick?”
“No,” Hershel said. “But we’ve got a cold snap, and Rick and them need the extra blankets. Time for us to snuggle up and share.”
Nodding in understanding and ignoring your painfully cold toes and fingertips, you pulled out the extra blanket you had lining your sleeping bag and handed it to him.
Hershel took it, as well as two more from Daryl. “Beth and I will put our two sleeping bags together. Might be a good idea for you two to do the same.” Hershel adjusted the handkerchief over his mouth and went to check on his patients.
Wouldn’t it have made more sense for Hershel and Daryl to share?
Weary, you sighed. You didn’t have it in you to debate with the stubbornness of Hershel Greene, no matter the butterflies in your belly or anxiety in your chest.
Next to you, Daryl was already unzipping his sleeping bag all the way, huffing and grunting as he spread it face-up on the floor.
You stood, scurrying out of his way and gave your own bed a few small kicks to move it over. Still half asleep, you tried to accept this was really happening. Picking up your knife from under your pillow, you went to your pack for an extra pair of socks. By the time you returned, your sleeping bag was spread out, facedown on Daryl’s. He zipped up the far side, the bottom, and half of the near side. Then he started pulling jackets, flannel shirts and sweatshirts from his pack and laying them on top of the new bed.
Your new bed. That you would share. With Daryl.
Of course this made sense. Beth was still a kid, after all, and probably would want to stay close to her dad. Although never in the same bed or sleeping bag, you and Daryl usually slept beside each other. In fact, ever since your group had left the farm, sleeping next to Daryl felt as natural as waking up in the morning. It was part of your day like anything else.
For a month now, maybe more, you’d been trying not to think what that meant. That at the end of the world you’d met someone who made you feel the way Lizzie did for Darcy or Min felt for Cal. That it was for someone who was as loyal, dependable, and perfect as Daryl.
Forcing yourself to look away from him, you found your coat, jacket, and a couple of button downs, then helped Daryl pile them on top of the other clothes.
While you couldn’t imagine a world without Daryl, you also couldn’t imagine one in which he felt the same about you. Any affection he had for you was surely born out of his innate protectiveness and growing loyalty to the group.
You shook the fantasy of loving Daryl from your mind and moved your pillow to rest beside his, placing your knife under it.
Your knife. You remembered that afternoon on the farm, the laughter and teasing looks everyone gave you the next day. That time Maggie asked if you had any condoms left, having assumed Daryl was sleeping with you. Because of the way he was always staring.
Impossible.
You studied him, broad shoulders and strong back, muscular arms and dexterous hands.
He was too good for you in every way imaginable. You wouldn’t fool yourself into hoping for what would never happen. Best to keep a clear head.
“Good thinking with the coats and stuff,” you told him.
He glanced at you, but continued to study the bed. “I’ll take over watch from Maggie. You don’t gotta share with me.”
Without thinking, you took his forearm, wrapping your hand gently around it. “Daryl, you haven’t slept one night through in almost a week. It’s fine.” You paused, realization like a punch in the gut. “Unless you don’t want to share with me?”
He squinted at you, the muscle of his forearm suddenly tense. You let go.
“Why wouldn’t I want to share with you?” he asked
You gestured at your general existence, hoping he understood.
Without indicating one way or the other, he held up the open corner of the bed. “Get in.”
You crawled in between the sleeping bags, situating yourself as close to the far side as possible.
A moment later, the solid, comforting presence of Daryl was next to you, his broad shoulders taking up more room than you expected, his legs almost touching yours under the heavy weight of the sleeping bag and clothes.
“Ya alright?” He asked.
You exhaled a shaky breath. So close. Any resolve of not wanting him shattered with him so near. How easy it would be to touch him, to put your hand on his chest, to trace the line of his jaw, to let him kiss you.
“I’m good,” you lied.
Both of you were silent when Beth and Hershel returned, and you closed your eyes against the yearning threatening to claw its way out of you. Listening to the two of them settle in, you realized Daryl was motionless beside you, probably already asleep.
You turned to face away from him, dipping your nose under the covers to keep it warm.
Just when you’d resolved to start counting sheep, Daryl moved beside you.
“Thought you knew how I felt about ya,” he said, his voice a near inaudible rumble. “Carol said you didn’t, but yer smart. Figured you had me pegged.”
You rolled over, a mixture of hope and disbelief warring within you. Were you hearing him right?
“The way you feel about me?” you whispered.
He didn’t answer.
“Daryl,” you said, desperate for him to explain. “Say something. Please.”
The silence stretched on, oppressive and suffocating, until he finally whispered, “Thought you knew and just didn’t want me.”
The brokenness in his voice touched something deep within. “You were wrong,” you said, your heart in your throat. “Daryl, you were so wrong.”
You felt the lightest of touches on your jaw, first a trembling fingertip, then the full roughness of his calloused palm was cupping your cheek.
Eyes fluttering closed, you melted at his touch. Cold extremities forgotten, all you felt was his hand on you.
Daryl’s hand slid from your cheek to the back of your neck, his hold on you firm and steady.
You reached for him, bold and needful. You threaded your fingers in his hair and cradled his head, wanting to hold him like the treasure he was.
Daryl pulled you to him; the softness of your body met the hardness of his. He kissed you, slow at first, and then he was demanding, clutching at you with his hands, drinking from you with his mouth. You held on for dear life, fingertips searching for any bit of exposed skin: his neck, the small of his back beneath his vest and shirt.
It felt so good to kiss him, like you’d been waiting all your life to breathe him in and lap at the fountain of his lips. He slid a leg between yours, pulling you impossibly nearer to him.
And there it was, the spark all the poets had written about, that Arthurian knights had died for. Your core shook with a desperate longing you’d never felt for another person, and as Daryl worked hard at your mouth, you found yourself wanting him to kiss you everywhere else, too.
The front door slammed open.
“DARYL!”
Glenn stood panicked in the doorway. In less than a few seconds, Daryl had extricated himself from your legs and arms, had pulled on his boots and crossbow, and was now on his way to the door.
“Where? How many?” he demanded.
“Not walkers,” Glenn explained, panting heavily. “People. Four or five, I don’t know. They took Maggie.”
Beth burst into tears.
“On foot?” Daryl asked.
Glenn nodded. “I can show you where they went.”
Daryl was almost out the door before suddenly turning around.
You were putting your knife on your belt, grabbing the nearest handgun, and scrambling to find your hiking boots.
“You ain’t goin’,” he said.
“But I–”
He grabbed your wrist and grunted at you. “You need to stay here and protect the others.”
Stunned that he trusted you to protect anyone, you nodded. And with one last look at you, he disappeared out the door.
Pressing a palm to the closed door, you willed yourself to focus on taking care of everyone and not letting yourself imagine the people you loved being murdered by strangers.
You took a quick inventory of the available weapons and ammo while Hershel consoled Beth. You decided the handgun was all you needed. If things got worse than that, you didn’t stand a chance, anyway.
Before your mind could travel farther down that dark path, you carefully loaded a shotgun, and set it next to Hershel. He had to be worried about Maggie, but he was doing his best to stay calm for Beth. You put a hand on his shoulder and squeezed. “Daryl will get her back. Don’t worry.”
To your surprise, Hershel covered your hand with his own. “Thank you,” he said, with a small smile. “Dixon acts like a crazed wolf, but he’s good people. You both are.”
Unable to accept Hershel’s praise–-he gave it out so rarely-–you bowed your head in acknowledgement, touched by his words.
“I’ll keep close to the house and run back in if I see anything.”
“Good girl,” Hershel said, and turned his attention back to Beth.
*
On the walk back to the house, Daryl trailed behind Glenn and Maggie, remembering your taste and touch.  First time in his life that it felt good to be wrong.
The stupid fucks who had taken Maggie were only after a woman to help some man’s wife give birth.
But it was over now, dawn was breaking, and he thought of you in bed next to him, soft and lush and so very warm.
Maggie squealed.  “They were doin’ what?”  She was full of giggles, smiling at Glenn, who cast a nervous glance back at Daryl.
“Mag-gie,” Glenn said.
Maggie stopped dead in her tracks and turned to face Daryl.  “You mean, first good thing to happen in three months and I miss it?  You couldn’t have waited until I got back, Daryl Dixon?  You’ve been waitin’ so long already.”
He wanted to tell Maggie to fuck off, but he knew you wouldn’t like that.  “You wanna double date?” he said. “Ain’t happenin’.”
Glenn took Maggie’s hand and urged her to keep walking, mouthing “sorry” over his shoulder.
The moment Glenn faced forward again, Daryl allowed himself a small smile.
*
When Daryl got back to the house, you weren’t where he left you, but Carl was. The kid opened the door, revolver in hand, stupid hat sitting crooked on his head.  Once inside, Daryl saw Hershel and Beth by each of the windows, keeping careful watch out of the peepholes.
Fuck.
Beth leaped up from her post and ran into her sister, wrapping her arms around Maggie in a big hug.
“Where is she?” Daryl demanded.
Beth looked at him from the corner of her eye.  “It was walkers. Just a couple, she said, but she went out to check if any more were nearby.” Beth offered him a sad smile.  “She was really brave.”
Panic hit him, hard and fast, and Daryl found it suddenly hard to breathe. He ran outside to the fresh air and away from Beth’s pitying gaze.
Next thing he knew, the door swung open and Rick was beside him.  Rick slapped a hand on his back.
“Good. Now that you’re back we can go after her and get on the road.”
Daryl scowled at him. “She ain’t dead?”
Rick furrowed his brow in confusion.  “She went to see where those first two came from.  Left about half an hour ago.  Figured we could catch up and give her a hand.”
Daryl almost sank to his knees in relief, but he just nodded and went to find you.

Tumblr media
He found you about an hour later, hands and jacket speckled with walker blood as you squatted on the forest floor, studying the dirt. Before Daryl could run to you and pull you tightly against him, you stood and gave Rick a big, warm smile.
Despite the sharp sting of rejection, Daryl instantly noticed something was off. Your eyes were a bit sunken and there was a sallow look to your cheeks.
“You look like you’re doing better,” you said to Rick.
Rick nodded, “But doesn’t look like you are.”
You shook your head.  “Little under the weather, but I don’t think I’m bit. You can check to make sure.”
With a small nod, Rick holstered his revolver and began checking you for bites.  His hands were going under your coat, up your sleeves, and around your legs.
Daryl growled low in his chest. Despite your doubts, he knew you weren’t bit. You’d never put anyone at risk, especially Carol and the kids. There was no need for Rick to touch you like that, to put his hands places only Daryl’s should be.
When Rick finished checking you over, he put an arm around your waist.  “Let’s go back and get you cleaned up.”
You nodded at him, and Daryl resisted pulling you away from Rick’s possessive hold.  As the two of you walked past him, you flashed him a quick smile, but said nothing as you let Rick be the one to lead you back to safety.
At the house, Daryl paced around the perimeter a few times, trying to calm down.  The fourth lap had him even more heated, so he went inside, needing to keep an eye on you even if you wouldn’t speak to him.
Inside, Carol and Lori were up, too, making the main room crowded and stifling with activity.  Everyone was packing up; Rick was eager to get on the road.
Daryl didn’t like the look of you as you put away the extra food and started folding his clothes. Unable to control himself any longer, he grabbed your wrist and dragged you to the nearest bedroom.
Once there, he held tight to your arm and looked you up and down. “You’re sick,” he said.
With your free hand, you touched your forehead.  “I probably am.”
Daryl’s nostrils flared in frustration.  “Then why is everybody actin’ like you ain’t?”
You wrested your arm away from him.  “Because more walkers will find this place soon, and that other group already knows we’re here. Because this isn’t a safe place for Lori to have her baby. Rick thinks it’s best if we move on.”
Daryl had begun to trust Rick more and more in the past few months, but now jealousy and rage were calling all of that into question.
Daryl wanted to pull you into his arms and hold you, but he kept his distance. He wouldn’t let you play him for a fool.
“You doin’ all this for Rick, then?” he asked.  “He gets up and about and suddenly you don’t want me no more?”
You took a step back, gawking at Daryl like he’d lost his mind.
“Answer me!” he demanded, images of Rick touching you plaguing him from one second and into the next.
“Rick is like my brother. I love him, but what I feel for him is nothing like what I feel for you.”
That was all Daryl needed to hear. He grabbed you by the shoulders, hauled you to him, and kissed you hard.
After a few seconds of his mouth on yours, you pulled away, and Daryl had to let you go.
“Daryl, you’re going to get sick, too if you keep doing that,” you said, clutching at his vest and resting your head on his chest.  “Don’t make me worry about getting you sick.”
Worry? About him? No one in his life had worried about him, and he couldn’t see why anyone ever would.  But you were sincere, with your touch and your words and the way you looked up at him. A tiny flicker of hope flared deep within.  If you cared a fraction of  what he cared for you, then maybe you did worry about him. Just a little.
You took a step back.  “I didn’t want to make a big show when I saw you out there. I don’t know how you feel about everyone knowing, so I wasn’t going to tell them without talking it over with you.” You shoved your hands into the pockets of your jacket. “Besides, I don’t know what you want from this. From me.”
Everything. He wanted everything.
There were footsteps in the hall, and Daryl turned to find Rick standing in the doorway.
“Everything okay in here?  We heard some yelling.”
Yelling? Daryl hadn’t been yelling, had he?
You jumped away from Daryl and turned to Rick.  “We’re good.  Little misunderstanding is all,” you said.
Daryl faced Rick, but kept his gaze on the floor.  “Hershel say it was safe for her to keep goin’?” He grabbed you by the hand. “‘Cause if it ain’t, we’re stayin’.  Y’all go on if ya want.  I’ll look after her.”
Rick smiled with a twinkle in his eye.  “I know you would, buddy.  But Hershel said she looks worse than she is. Probably from not eating enough.  He got a good sense of the virus from looking after all of us.  If she keeps taking the acetaphil—atta-metacin---”
“Acetaminophen,” you supplied.  “Tylenol.”
Rick nodded, “Yep. So long as she keeps taking that and gets enough to eat, it shouldn’t be a problem.”
There was an awkward pause.
“Right. Soon as you two are ready,” Rick said and left the room.
Without looking at you, Daryl said, “Glenn saw us. He told Maggie. ‘m sure everyone else knows by now.”  He glanced at you, taking in your soft eyes and parted lips.  He wanted you more than he had ever wanted anything in his life.
Forcing himself to look away, Daryl whispered. “Don’t care about them knowin’ or not knowin’.” He had to stop and strengthen himself against the insecurity ripping him apart. “I’m not askin’ for more than you already give me. But if you’re goin’ to let me kiss you and hold you, I don’t want nobody else touchin’ you like that.”
Too scared to look at you, he stared at the floor.
*
Daryl’s hand was trembling slightly in yours, and it infuriated you that he wouldn’t meet your gaze.  This was Daryl, after all.  Who’d looked men right in the eyes and shot them dead, who’d launched himself at a group of walkers armed with nothing but a hunting knife. One time not even that.
There was so much about him you still didn’t know or understand. Even now you only had a small glimpse of the man he was, and, despite his recent openness, you sensed more happening in that head of his than he would ever let on.
You leaned against him once more, breathing in the scent of the earth and leather, relishing it while you still could.
You took his chin in hand and forced him to look at you. “If you think I want anyone else kissing me, you have lost your damn mind.  I have been pining after you—and only you—since what feels like the dawn of time.”
He blinked at you. After taking a moment to process what you said, he nodded.
Relieved, you let go and took a few steps away from him.  “Now, I need something from you. Until I’m better, I want you to stay away from me.  You are the best of us at finding food, and you’ll be healthier if I stay with Carol and Rick’s family.”
Daryl squinted. “What’s that goin’ to change? I already kissed ya last night and again today. I’m goin’ to get what you got anyway.”
“Viral load is still a variable,” you tried to explain. “It’s like walkers. One or two, not a big deal. Three, four, five? A bit dangerous.  More than that?  It just gets worse and worse.  Viruses are the same way.  The less exposure you have, the easier for your immune system to fight it off. I won’t have you risking more than you need to just for me. Okay?”
Daryl nodded, then said, “Alright.”
You exhaled, relieved.
“But,” he said, brushing hair out of his face and looking you in the eyes. “Once you’re better, nothing else is goin’ to keep me from bein’ with you. Wasted enough time already.”
Daryl left the room, and you had to take a moment to catch your breath.
How long had Daryl been feeling this way about you? Mind clouded by your mild fever and Daryl’s parting words, you left the room and got ready to hit the road.

Ghostfacers
Masterlist
(A/N: So the way this episode is gonna be written is gonna be different. I forgot about this episode and when I watched it the other night I was like 'well, crap! How am I gonna do this?' So it's gonna be a mix of how my book is normally written but when the characters are 'speaking to the camera' it's gonna be written like how a play is written. But when Harry and Ed speak to the camera or voice over, Ed is in italics and Harry's in bold. Hopefully that makes sense.)
Hello. I am Harry Spangler
And I am Ed Zeddmore. Now if you have received this tape, you must be some sort of bigwig network executive. Well, today is your lucky day, mister.
Because the unsolicited pilot you are about to watch is the bold new future of "reality TV."
Mmmm. We know you've had it hard during the crippling writer's strike.
Lazy fat cats.
Who needs writers when you've got guys like us? Our team faced horrible horrors to bring you the footage that will change your world forever. So strap in for the scariest hour in the history of television.
In the history of your life...
Strap in for...
Ghostfacers!
Harry and Ed exit an AMC Gremlin with Wisconsin license plate, each carrying a metal briefcase with a "Ghostfacers" sticker.
You know, it can get kind of hard balancing our daytime careers with our nighttime missions.
Yeah, but Ed and I pretty much call the shots at the Kinko's where we work, so we can usually pretty much get off by six every night?
Yeah, six o'clock. It used to be just, you know, you and I taking on the cases -- just Harry and me.
Two lone wolves.
And two lone wolves need, uh...other wolves.
PHASE 1: THE HOMEWORK
"Morning, 'facers." Ed greets the gang as he and Harry enter the Ghostfacers office. "Good morning, Ghostfacers." Harry greets. "It's seven p.m., dude." Spruce, one of their teammates, informs. "It's morning to a Ghostfacer. Corbett, what do we got, buddy?" Harry asked the younger man.
"Oh, I'm just putting up some of the --" Corbett stammers before Ed speaks up. "Yeah, this has got to go up here. That's got to go here...got to see the whole field. Markers, eraser -- good job." He said as he looks over the board.
Corbett: I first saw Ed putting up flyers down at the -- the outlet mall in Scogan, so I-I read one, and I thought to myself, "huh. Where do ghosts come from?" And now here I am.
"Ed, your sister's abusing staff." Harry groaned as Maggie rolls her eyes at him while she sat in front of the computer. "That's adopted sister, thank you very much." Ed corrected him.
Maggie: Ed has been obsessed with the supernatural since we were kids, you know, and then he meets Harry at computer camp...and love at first geek.
Spruce: Spruce here. What up, playaaa? I am 15/16 Jew, 1/16 Cherokee. My grandfather is a mohel, my great-grandfather was a tallis maker, and my great-great-grandfather was a degenerate gambler and had a peyote addiction.
"Okay, people. Let's cut the chatter and get on a mission. Okay? Morton house...one of our big fish. All right, we all know the legend. Every four years, supposedly, this becomes the most haunted place in America." Ed explained to the team. "The leap year ghost, some call it. The ghost returns at midnight just as February 29th begins." Harry adds.
"And no one has ever stayed the night, right?" Maggie asked. "Yeah, well, every testimony that we dug up, every eyewitness has cut and run well before midnight." Harry tells her. "Well, that's all about to change, baby." Ed said, cockily. "Absolutely true, Ed. Absolutely true." Harry said as Ed drinks his cup of coffee then hums approvingly.
"Mmm. That's good." he compliments as he looks over F Corbett. "It's French vanilla, 'cause the other day, you said how much you liked it, so..." Corbett said, bashful, and Ed nods. "Thank you." He said. "You are welcome." Corbett said, awkwardly.
I like Corbett. I do. Shows up early, does his job, lot of good hustle out -- I think he's got the hots for Ed, and that could spell trouble for the whole team.
Corbett: Ed's kind of the more rugged, with that really golden...beautiful sort of beard. Definitely nice. Uh, and Harry's nice.
"29th is this Friday, facers. We want this mission, we got to move on it now, or guess what -- He's gone for another four years." Ed tells the team when there was a sudden loud noise. Ed's whiteboard crashes to the ground, caused by the garage door it was attached to opening up.
"Oh, watch out!"
"Who is that?"
"Dad! Come on!" Ed yells as his dad tries to pull in the garage and looks around in confusion. "Just cut the cameras. We don't need that. We don't need this part. We don't --" Harry tells Spruce before he turns the camera off.
PHASE II: INFILTRATION
"Stay low. Follow formation." Ed tells the team as they walk up to the chain linked fence at the Morton house. "Okay, as suspected. A lot of people have tried to break into the Morton house. The local authorities have just gotten fed up." Ed explained to them. "Looks like the cops have got this place pretty well fenced off." Harry said as he begins to pull out the wire cutters.
"Wait. Didn't you guys get, like, a permit or something?" Maggie asked them, making Ed and Harry look at her. "A permit?" Harry said, confused, then he and Ed share a look. "That's a good idea for next time." said Harry and Ed nods. "Yeah." He said and they start to cut the chain when Spruce shouts. "Car!"
"Car. shh, shh! Flashlights off." Harry tells the others and the team turns their flashlights off. "Keep totally still." Maggie whispers as the loud rumble of a car engine approaching, along with a radio playing "We're an American Band."
The car pulls up and they could see three people inside of it. The passenger and backseat driver stick their head out and pull out their flashlights. They shined them towards the Morton House for a few moments before they drive away.
"It's okay. Not cops -- just hicks." Spruce informed him friend as Ed opens the gate with the wire cutters. "Ed's got it." Harry said and everyone gets up. "Guys, let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Go! go!" Harry said and they start to make their way to the house.
"Hear that, people? Let's keep it quiet." Ed tells the team as they make their way deeper into house after they make it inside of the buildings. "There's the kitchen sink." Harry tells Ed. "Copy that. Copy that." Ed said as they make it to the living room area. "All right, everybody. Ghostfacers, let's line up. Everybody. We'll set up camp right here. This is command center one." Ed said and everyone sets down the equipment on the floor. "We're gonna call this the Eagle's Nest." Harry said and everyone starts setting up equipment.
"Hallway cam one up and running." Corbett said after he sets up the camera in one of the hallways. "Looking good, Corbett." Ed compliments from the main base, through the walkie. "Copy that, Ed." Corbett said, smiling, while Ed seemed baffled. "Uh...uh, you're welcome." He stammers.
'All right, Spruce, how are we doing there, buddy?" Ed asked Spruce through his walkie. "Checking basement camera two, mein fuhrer." Spruce replied. "Maggie, I got no visual on you, Maggie." Ed said. "This is Maggie. Do you copy?" Maggie's voice asked through the walkie. "There you are. Hello. Harry, are you alive?" Ed said. "Upstairs, Ed. Camera one." Harry replied.
"Looking good. I can smell syndication. All right, fellas. Let's regroup at the Eagle's Nest." Ed said to the others.
Morton House
10:40PM
Base Camp
"All right, Spangler. Battery check, battery check. Check. Okay." Harry said as they check their equipment. "Check. Check. Yo, Corbett, dude." Spruce said as he looks through the camera and at Corbett, who has a flashlight strapped to his head. "Lookin' good, Corbett." Harry said.
"You're Robocop." Spruce said to Corbett. "R-robocop? You think I -- you think I look like Robocop?" Corbett asked but before Spruce could reply, Ed speaks up. "Everybody, bring it in. Bring it in." Ed said and everyone gather up in a circle..
"We've all been here before. Standard walk-through. Team one, west. Team two, east. Spin the tires, light the fires. Ghostfacers on three. 1, 2, 3..." Ed said then all of them shout. "Ghostfacers!"
PHASE III: FACE TIME
Morton House
10:51 PM
1st Floor
"Hello! I'm speaking to the restless spirits of the Morton house!" Ed calls out as he and Corbett walk around the first floor. "Okay." Corbett mutters as they continue on. "Hello! My name's Ed." Ed shouts then he turns to Corbett. "Careful. Watch my back." He said to him. "Okay. Okay." Corbett said.
"What's your name?" Ed calls out as he looks at his EMF meter. ".3, .29." he reads out. "Is there an entity or entities here with us now? Can you give us a sign of your presence?" Corbett asked, quickly, without taking a breath. "You got to breathe, buddy." Ed tries to calm him.
"I can't breathe." Corbett said, slightly panicked. "Corbett, night vision." Ed tells him and Corbett nods. "Okay. Okay. Yeah." He whispers as he flips the night vision on the camera. "Calm down, buddy. Breathe, all right? Calm the whirlwinds of your mind." Ed tells him, calmly.
2nd Floor
"We're doing a basic EMF, EVP, temp-flux sweep. Looks like we've got all of our ducks in a row here." Harry said as he, Spruce and Maggie walk down the hall. But then there was camera interference on Spruce's camera just as the EMF makes a noise.
"What?" Harry said, shocked. "I don't know. It's weird." Spruce said but then it quit. "It's gone." He said then they come up to a door. 'All right. Get this. Get this." Harry said and he tries unsuccessfully to kick in the door.
"Turn the knob." Spruce tells him. "All right...that's a good idea." Harry said and he opens door then jumps back and runs away. "Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God!" He exclaims, fearfully. "It's just a rat, dude." Spruce said, unfazed.
I don't really like rats. They're gross. Rats are like the... rats of the world.
"What -- was that an apparition? Was that a spectral -- was that a .4? What do we got, 'cause the EMP was just off the --" Harry asked as he comes back but then Spruce throws a dead rat at him. "Oh, God! Oh, that is so not funny, Spruce!" Harry screams as Spruce chuckles.
1st Floor
"Oh, God. Okay, it was just...I think it was just this branch...Okay...in the window." Corbett said, shakily.. "This is spooky, man. This place..." Ed started to say when they were confronted by three figures, approaching them with flashlights. "Freeze! police officers! don't move!" A male voice shouts. "Oh no!" Corbett exclaims. "All right. All right. All right. Take it easy, take it easy." A different male voice assures them as Ed and Corbett start to freak out.
"Let's see some identification. Come on. Let's see some i.d." a female voice demanded as Corbet hands in his ID. "What -- are we under -- under arrest?" He asked, fearfully, as Ed said. "We are unarmed."
"Want to explain that weirdo outfit, Mr., uh, Corbett?" the man asked as he looks at the ID but Ed stops and realized that these three people looked familiar. "I know you." Ed said and the first man, Dean, looks up at him. "Yeah, sure you do. Give me some identification." Dean demands but Ed shakes his head. "Yeah, ho-- whoa, hold on a second." He said as he looks between the three people, shining his flashlight at them.
"I know all three of you. Yeah." said Ed as he looks between Dean, Sam and (y/n). "What?" Corbett said, confused, as Ed nodded while (y/n)'s eyes widen in recognition. "Holy sh--!" She said and Dean looks over at her. "What?" Dean asked as Sam's eyes widen in recognition too. "Sh--!" Sam mutters as (y/n) turns to Dean.
"Uh, West Texas...the...the tulpa we had to take out. Those two goofballs that almost got us killed...The hellhounds or something?" She said and Dean looks over at Ed. "F--- me." Dean grumbles. "Yeah, we're not hellhounds anymore, okay? It didn't test that well." Ed snapped at them.
"Ed, what's going on?" Corbett asked Ed. "They're not cops, buddy -- no, not at all." Ed tells him. "Ed, you had a partner, too, didn't you -- A different guy?" Dean asked him. "Oh, yeah, yeah." Ed replied. "Is he around here somewhere?" Dean asked him. "He's running around, chasing ghosts." Ed replied. "Okay, well, listen, you and Rambo need to get your girlfriends and get out of here." Dean tells them and Ed gets annoyed.
"All right. Listen here, chisel chest, okay? We were here first. We've already set up base camp. We beat you." he said then Dean turns to Sam and (y/n). "They were here first." He said to them as Ed nods. But then Dean grabs Ed and pushes him up against the wall. "Oh, God." Ed exclaimed.
"Ed..." Dean said in a low voice. "Yeah?" Ed said, unsure. "...where's your partner?" Dean asked again.
2nd Floor
"10.6. 10.7, guys. The EMF is really spiking here." Harry said as he and his team walk down the hall. "Temperature's down, like, 11 degrees." Maggie informs as she holds the thermometer. "All right, all right, keep your eyes peeled. This could be it." Harry said then he turns to Maggie. "Maggie, can I get a reading in here, please?" He asked when Spruce noticed the camera interference. "Something keeps messing with the chip. I don't know what's going on here." Spruce said as there was more interference, then suddenly a man in 50s-style suit and hat appears.
"Guys. Guys. Guys." he shouts and Maggie and Harry turn and see an apparition of the man. "Look buddy, I'm sorry. That's it. I'm telling you, that's all the money I --" the apparition said until gunshots ring out and the apparition of the man falls and disappears, making the three Ghostfacers jump.
1st Floor
"What are you doing in the Morton House, Ed - on leap year -- what are you thinking?" Dean asked Ed, angrily. "We're here to spend the night, okay? It's for our TV show." Ed replied. "What? Great. Perfect." Sam grumbles. "Yeah, nobody's ever spent the night before." Corbett said and the three hunters turn to them. "Uh, actually, yeah, they have." (Y/n) said. "Uh, we've never heard of them." Ed said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Yeah, you know why? 'Cause the ones that have haven't lived to talk about it!" (y/n) said to them, loudly. "Oh, come on, I don't believe you." Ed said, exasperated. "Look -- missing-persons reports going back almost a half century. John Graham stayed on a dare -- gone. Julie Wilkerson -- gone. There are tons more. All of them came to just stay the night through, always on a leap year. The only body they ever found was the last owner, Freeman Daggett." Sam explained to them as he shows the reports to Ed and Corbett.
"These look legit." Ed said, shocked. "They are legit." (y/n) said, annoyed. "Look, Ed, we ain't got much time here, buddy. Starting at midnight, your friends are going to die." Sam said when Harry, Maggie, and Spruce run down the stairs and into the living room.
"Oh, my god! Oh, my god! Oh, my god! Oh, my god! Oh, my god! Guys! Guys! Oh, my god! Oh, my god! We got one! Corbett! Corbett, we saw one! We saw one!" Harry shouts to Ed and Corbett, frantically. "Get outta here!" Ed said, amazed. "It was a full apparition! It was like a class four. It was a spectral illumination! It..." Harry said before Maggie speaks up. "It was amazing!" she said then Harry noticed Dean, Sam and (y/n).
"Hey, aren't those the a------s from Texas?" Harry asked. "Yes." replied Ed. "All right, let's have this reunion across the street, guys." Dean tells them.
"Crap. What are you guys doing here?" Harry asked as Sam, Dean and (y/n) try to usher them out of the building. "Come on, come on. We'll get you ice cream -- our treat. What do you say? Let's go." (Y/n) said but Harry stands his ground. "Yeah, I say no." He said and Maggie goes over to Ed.
'Look at this. Look, look. Ed, Ed. No. No. Look at this. Okay, honest-to-god proof, all right?" Maggie said as she shows the group their footage on the laptop. "Are you kidding me?" Ed said, shocked. "Yeah. No, not kidding." Harry said, smiling.
"What kind of reading did we get?" Spruce asked. "Uh, it was a 10.9." Harry replied. "10.9?" Ed said, shocked. "Yeah, it was 10.9. It was almost 11. I came out, and I was like, 'what's going on?' And I was like -- wait, watch this. Oh! He got blasted. It was crazy." Harry exclaimed while Sam, Dean and (y/n) walk away from the group and talk amongst themselves.
Spruce follows them, still recording them on his camera.
"Think we were off on this? I mean, that was just a death echo." Sam said. "Yeah, but what's it doing here? Did anybody get shot here?" Dean asked his brother and girlfriend. "No, not that Sam and I could find." she replied as Sam shakes his head.
"What's a death echo?" Spruce asked and the trio look over at him. "Look, we got a problem here. That ghost ain't it." Sam said. "Yeah, that's real. Like, that happened." Harry said, pointing at the laptop. "What's a death echo?" Spruce asked again. "Echoes are trapped in a loop, okay? They keep replaying how they died over and over and over again, usually in the place where they were ganked. It's about as dangerous as a scary movie." Dean replied.
"So maybe the echo's not dangerous, but maybe something else is." (y/n) said and Dean turns back to her and Sam. "You're right." he mutters then he turns to the Ghostfacers.
"All right, we need to get out of here, guys. Come on. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Pack it up." Dean shouts. "Guys, time is running out!" Sam said as the trio go to try and move them out. "We're moving!" (Y/n) shouts.
"What about all of our equipment? What are we gonna..." Maggie asked but the trio usher them out of the room. "Lots of fun. Let's go." Dean orders while Harry talks over him. "We got more material. We got all kinds of stuff. We'll make you guys recurring guest stars." He said but Ed looks around and shouts. "Wait! Wait! Where's Corbett?"
2nd Floor
"I wish to communicate with the restless spirits here." Corbett said as he stands in a room by himself. Then there was camera interference. "Uh, lights out? Oh, I think I got night vision here." Corbett mutters and he switches to night vision. "That's better." He said as he points the camera to himself, not realizing a tall figure standing behind him.
Living Room
"No man left behind." Ed said when they hear an anguished scream in the distance. "That was Corbett." Harry and Ed said then they run up the stairs while Dean, Sam and (y/n) protest. "We'll get him! Go back!" Dean shouts. "Guys!" Sam shouts. "Damn it!" (Y/n) growls in anger.
2nd Floor
"No! where are you, dude? Tell us where you are! Corbett!" Ed shouts as they run. "Let me go! Guys!" Corbett shouts but they couldn't find him at all, just hear him. "Corbett, you need to come back, Corbett." Ed shouts then they hear Corbett screaming. "Hey! Hey! Hey! Come on." Dean said to Ed, stopping him from going anywhere as they hear Corbett's screams continue, fading away.
"Corbett's...He's not here. Let's go. Let's go." Sam encourages the Ghostfacers but Harry shakes his head. "No. No. No. No, that was Corbett. Didn't you hear that?" Harry asked while Dean, Sam and (y/n) usher the others back to the living room. But the clock had already midnight.
"Oh, god, what's happened? Oh, god. He's gone. He just disappeared." Ed mutters, devastated. "Okay, let's just go through all the angles. Let's go through all the cameras we have." Harry said while Sam, Dean and (y/n) walk off to the side.
"Well, it's 12:04, boys." (Y/n) said and Sam sighs then turns to Dean. "You good? You happy?" he asked him. "Yeah, I am happy." Dean said, sarcastically. "Let's go hunt the Morton house, you said, it's our Grand Canyon." Sam mocks. "Sam, I don't want to hear this." Dean growls.
"You got two months left, Dean. Instead, we're gonna die tonight." (Y/n) said, annoyed, as Sam picks up a chair and smashes it against the sealed front door. "Whoa! what the hell is going on, guys?" Spruce asked and the trio turn to him.
"I'll tell you what's going on. Every door, every window, I'm guessing every exit out of this house -- they're all sealed." Sam replied. "But w-why are they sealed?" Maggie asked, scared. "It's a supernatural lockdown, okay? Whatever took Corbett doesn't want us to leave, and it's no death echo. This is a bad mother, and it wants us scared." (Y/n) explained. "Or it just wants us." Maggie said when the sound of the EMF detector goes off.
"Uh, guys, the camera's fritzing again." Spruce said as there was interference on his camera. "Whoa. Whoa. Guys, the EMF's starting to spike. This is a big one!" Ed said as Harry and Maggie walked to the middle of the room, both of them secretly holding hands
"Everybody, stay close. There's something coming." Sam said when another apparition appears. "Woah!" the Ghostfacers shout. "Is this the same echo you guys saw earlier?" Dean asked Harry. "No, it's a different guy." Harry replied and Dean looks over at Sam and (y/n).
"Multiple echoes? What the hell's going on?" he asked them. 'Beats me." Sam said as (y/n) shrugs. "Okay. All right. All right. All right." Dean said then he goes up to the apparition and starts to yell at it. "Uh, hey, buddy! Hey. Hey. Wake up. You're dead! Hello!"
"What's he doing? What's he doing?" Harry asked Sam and (y/n) as Dean continues to shout at the apparition. "It's rare, but sometimes you can shock an echo out of its loop if you can talk to the part of the ghost that's still human, but usually you have to have some kind of connection to the deceased." (Y/n) explains while Dean shouts.  Come on! Wake up! Be dead!"
The apparition flickers and turns around as everyone hears a noise. 'You guys hear that?" Harry asked. "What's that sound?" Ed asked as Dean shouts.  Snap out of it, buddy, huh? Come on, what are you waiting for? You're gonzo! You're dead!"
A bright light shines on the apparition and the sound of a car horn approaching. The apparition flies backwards, as if hit by an invisible vehicle. "Where the hell did it go?" Harry asked as everyone looks around, confused.
The group follow Sam, Dean and (y/n) down the hallway of the 2nd floor. "Dude, there's no records of any of this here. No one got shot here. Obviously, no one got run over by a freaking train." Dean grumbles to Sam and (y/n). "Stay close." Sam said to the others as they walk on.
"Did the echoes take Corbett?" Maggie asked them. "Yes. No. I don't know. We don't know what's doing what here; that's what we're trying to figure out, okay?" Dean said, annoyed. "All right, stay close." (Y/n) tells them before Sam turns to the others.
"Okay, look, um, death echoes are ghosts, okay? Now, ghosts -- they usually haunt places where they lived or where they died." he explains. 'Except these mooks didn't live or die here." Dean added. "Right." (y/n) agreed.
"So, what are they doing here?" Maggie asked. "Hey, give the lady a cigar." Dean exclaims and (y/n) turns to her and see Maggie still holding a camera. 'All right, seriously, does looking at this nightmare through that camera make you feel better or something? I mean..." she said and Maggie stammers. "Um...I, uh... Well, yeah. Uh, yeah. I think so." She said and (y/n) huffs at this as they continue to walk through house.
They enter a room full of stuffed animal heads on the walls, as well as file cabinets. Sam goes over and holds up a broken framed certificate. "Freeman Daggett, house's last owner, officially commended for 20 years of fine service at the Gamble General Hospital." he said. "He was a Doctor?" Dean asked. "Janitor." Sam corrected as (y/n) looks around the room.
"This looks like his den. When'd you say he died -- '64?" she asked him. "Yeah, heart attack." Sam replied. "What are these, c-rations?" Maggie asked as she points out something that looked like food trays. "Yeah, army-issued, three squares -- like a lifetime supply." Dean said.
"God, is that all he ate?" Maggie asked. "One-stop shopping." (Y/n) said as they continued to look around the room.
"Oh, come on, guys. This is ridiculous. I mean, how the hell is this supposed to find Corbett, huh? We should be digging up the friggin' floorboards right now." Ed said as Sam holds up a dusty pamphlet. "Huh. Survival Under Atomic Attack. An optimist." He said then there's a loud BANG as Dean pries the safe open then he and (y/n) leaf through the file box.
"Crap. Crap. Taxidermy. Okay. You said Daggett was a hospital janitor?" Dean asked Sam. "Yeah." Sam Reid when (y/n) found something. "Ewww. Got three toe tags here -- one, death by gunshots, train accident, and suicide." she said and Sam and Dean's face scrunch up in disgust. "Ewwwwww!" they said, disgusted.
"What?" Harry asked. "Well, that explains why all the death echoes are here. They're here because their bodies are here...somewhere in the house." Sam said. "Daggett brought the remains home from the morgue. To play." Dean simplified then Harry and Ed made the same face.
"Ewwwww! Ugh!" they exclaimed, disgusted. "That's nasty, dude." Spruce said. "Right." Sam said and Dean looks around. "Wait a minute." He said, realizing Maggie was missing.
"Corbett." Maggie said as she walks around another room. Then she startles herself by coming across her own reflection in a mirror. "Okay, Maggie." She mutters and she swings the camera around, frightened, to reveal Dean. "Closer to the herd, okay?" Dean said as Harry runs in. "Maggie? Maggie?" He calls out. "She's fine." Dean assures him.
"Harry. Harry, I got an 8.6 and climbing fast. Something huge is coming. Look. Something big is coming." Ed exclaims. "It's past 11, you guys." Harry said as Spruce's camera got interference. 'What? Nobody move! Hold on. Hold on. Stay quiet." Dean said, quickly, as there was more camera interference.
Then suddenly (y/n), standing between Sam and Dean, disappears into thin air. "It's really cold in here." Ed said. "Harry?" Maggie said, worried, while Dean and Sam look between them to see (y/n) was gone.
"(Y/n)?" Sam said, confused, while Dean was taken aback by this. "Some kind of surge." Ed said. "(Y/n)?" Dean calls out but no answer. "Where'd she go?" Spruce asked. "Oh, no." Maggie whispers as Dean finds (y/n)'s dropped flashlight and picks it up.
"(Y/n)!" Dean shouts, panicked and worried.
"(Y/n)!" Sam calls out as they walk down the hallway. "Corbett!" Ed shouts. "(Y/n)!" Dean yells, his heart beating against his throat. "Corbett! Talk to us!" Harry shouts as they look around as well. "(Y/n)!" Sam and Dean shout just as Maggie and Harry stopped in a spot in the middle of the room, Spruce turns his camera to them.
"God, I am so scared. I'm so scared." Maggie said, fearfully. "It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay, Maggie." Harry assures her. They share a look before Maggie and Harry start to kiss.
"Corbett!" Ed's voice called while Maggie and Harry were still making out. "Bom-chicka-bow-wow...woah." Spruce whispers behind his camera until Ed finds Maggie and Harry. "My best friend... And my best sister." Ed shouts and Harry and Maggie break their kiss and embrace.
"Ed."
"Harry."
"Ed."
"Harry."
"Ed. listen, Ed." Harry said, trying to sound calm. "Are you banging my sister?" Ed asked Harry, angrily. "No! No!" Harry said then Ed takes off his glasses and turns to Spruce. "Hold my glasses." Ed tells him. "You got it." Spruce said as he takes Ed's glasses. "Ed." Harry said but then Ed attacks Harry. "Ed! Ed! Ed! Ed! Ed!" Harry shouts. "Guys!" Spruce shouts as Maggie screams. "Get off Harry!"
Then Dean and Sam show up and break up the fight. "What the f--- are you doing?! Cut it out!" Dean yells at them. "We're down by two people." Sam tells them then he and Dean turn away. "(Y/n)!" Sam shouts as he walks out. "(Y/n)!" Dean shouts.
"Great." Maggie grumbles as Harry and Ed look at each other. "Sorry." Harry said to Ed. "I'm sorry." Ed said then he turns to Spruce. "Give me my glasses. Did he knock my -- my tooth there?" Ed asked Spruce as he hands the glasses back to Ed. "Uh, no." Spruce said.
"I won that, right?" Ed asked him. "Yep. You're good." Spruce said, which annoyed Harry. "Thanks, Spruce." Harry said, sarcastically. "Yeah, it's my fault." Spruce grumbles. "That's real great. That's nice. Thanks." Maggie said as she walks off.
Meanwhile, in the basement, the song, It's My Party was playing in the background. In the middle was a table with cake and confetti and what looked like people gathered around. Corbett, who was at one end of the table, starts to come to consciousness when he heard a voice call out to him.
"Corbett. Corbett. Hey. Corbett, hey." the voice said and he raises his head to see (y/n) across the table, she was tied to a chair just like he is. "(Y/n)?" Corbett said, confused. "Corbett, hey, you got to keep listening to my voice, okay? I'm right here. Stay awake." (y/n) said but then another voice comes in.
"Don't listen." a deep voice said and Corbett and (y/n) look up to see Daggett as he picks up a knife. "It stops hurting, so don't worry." Daggett said as he goes around Corbett and stands behind him, which started to make (y/n) panic but she does her best to stay cool.
"Corbett, stay with me. Stay with me, you got it? I'm right here." she said to Corbett, who looks straight at her, and she could tell that he was beyond terrified. "Hey. Stay with me. Don't. Don't." (y/n) shouts at Daggett but it was too late as Daggett stabs Corbett through the throat. "No. Corbett! No! Corbett!" (y/n) screams as blood pours out of Corbett's wound and she watches him die in front of her.
"Corbett! Where'd you guys go?" Harry calls out as Dean and Sam look around. "Where are you guys?" Maggie calls out when Harry looks over at Dean. "Dean, what are you doing?" He asked. "Okay, so Daggett was a cold war nut, okay? He was -- he was an amateur taxidermist. He liked to slow dance with cadavers, and all he ate were c-rations, so what the hell are we looking for?!" Dean growls.
"Horrible little life." Maggie suggests. "Yeah, a lonely life...A cold war life. He was scared." Sam said but then he stops as he realized something. "He was scared...he was scared." Sam said as he and his brother share a look and both of them came to the same conclusion.
"Scared of what? What?" Harry asked but Sam and Dean run off. "Guys, where are you going?" Harry asked as he follows them. "Wait, don't leave me in here, you guys." Maggie said as she catches up to them.
"Get away from me." (Y/n) growls at the man as he walks up to her. "This won't hurt. It's okay. It's okay. Relax. Relax." Daggett assures her and he straps a party hat onto her head while Corbett slumps dead at the other end of the table.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where are you going?" Maggie asked Dean and Sam as they start to walk towards the door of the basement. "Guys like Daggett back then, the ones who were really scared of the Russkies -- they built bomb shelters. We're guessing he's got one. I'll bet you it's in the basement." Dean said and Spruce follows him when the door slams behind Dean, cutting him and Spruce off from Harry, Ed, Sam and Maggie.
"Woah!" Harry shouts. "Woah! That is not funny!" Ed said, shocked, while Sam goes to the doorknob and tries to open it but it wouldn't budge.
"Um, who closed the door?" Spruce asked Dean, nervously. "It did. It wants to separate us." Dean replied and goes up to the door. "Sam!" He yells. "Dean! You okay?" Sam asked. "Yeah, listen to me! There's some salt in my duffle. Make a circle and get inside." Dean said. "Okay." Sam said and he walks away from the door while Ed, Harry and Maggie look at him, confused.
"Inside? Inside his duffle bag?" Ed asked Sam. "In the salt!" Sam shouts at him. "Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah." Ed said and they make their way back to base. Dean continues down the basement stairs.
"Okay. Get in the circle. Get in the circle." Sam tells the others after making a salt circle. "Come on. Come on. Quick, quick." Ed said as Harry and Maggie get into the circle with Sam and Ed. "Guys, guys, I don't want to die, okay, and I don't want you to die." Harry cried. "Harry, listen -- listen to me, okay? listen. If we don't die...it's totally okay if you, uh, do my sister." Ed said and Maggie pushes Ed.
"Hey, hey, stopped." Sam yells when Maggie realized there was another interference on her camera. "Hey guys, hey guys, it's coming again." she tells them. "Oh, god. Oh, OK. Oh god, oh god." Ed stammers when the lights continue to flicker.
Then the group sees Corbett standing in front of them, bloody and unable to speak. "Oh. Oh, C-Corbett." Ed said, sadly, as they all look at him.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" Spruce asked Dean as they make their way around the basement. "What?" Dean asked. "Earlier, you, (y/n) and Sam -- she said you had two months left?" Spruce asked. "Yeah, it's complicated. A while ago, (y/n)..." Dean started to say but stops himself and shakes his head.
"No. No. No. I'm not gonna whine about my b------- problems to some b------- reality show. I'm gonna do my f------ job." he tells Spruce and he looks around some more. "Is it cancer?" Spruce asked. "Shut up." Dean growls then he stops as he hears music.
"You hear that?" he asked Spruce.
"I've been waiting for some more friends." Daggett said to (y/n) as he leans down to her. "I get lonely. But you're coming to my party, aren't you?" He asked her as she tries to pull back as much as she could in her chair.
"Is that music?" Spruce asked as Dean goes up to a cabinet. "Yeah, it's coming from behind this wall." Dean said and he singlehandedly pushes a cabinet away from the wall. "Wow, you're strong." Spruce said with sarcasm and Dean flips a middle finger to Spruce's camera.
"You'll stay a good, long time." Daggett said to (y/n) and he raises his knife until Dean breaks the door open to the bomb shelter. "(Y/n)!" Dean shouts and he shoots Daggett, who disappears, then unties (y/n). "Oh god." Spruce mutters, horrified, as he sees the whole birthday table, with the party guests of old corpses and one new corpse: Corbett. "Oh, no, Corbett." He whispers.
,
Ed, Harry, Sam and Maggie were still in the salt ring as Corbett's death echo happens again. "Oh god, what have we done? Oh god." Ed mutters. "Keep calm." Sam said to them. "Ed. Ed. Corbett's a -- he's a death echo. He's reliving his own murder." Harry tells him. "Over and over forever." Maggie said, sadly.
"What's this Daggett guy's problem anyway?" Spruce asked Dean and (y/n) as they walk out of the room.
"Loneliness." (y/n) replied.
"What, he's never heard of a Realdoll?" Dean asked. "No, no, no, Daggett was the Norman Bates, stuff-your-mother kind of lonely. I mean, that's why he lifted these bodies from the morgue, threw himself a birthday party, except they were the only ones who would come. Anyway, so, at midnight, he sealed them in the bomb shelter and went upstairs and o.d.'d on horse tranqs." (Y/n) informed and Dean looks at her, confused.
"How do you know this?" he asked her. "'Cause he told me." She replied. "Oh. yeah. Okay, so now that he's dead, what? Same song, different verse, trying to get people to come to his party?" Dean said. "Pretty much, yeah. Stay forever." (Y/n) said and Dean starts to load his gun
"Are those real bullets?" Spruce asked him. "It's rock salt." Dean replied.
Harry sings the Ghostfacers theme song that they made up as they stand there until Corbett's apparition appears again. "Guys, it's -- it's Corbett. He's -- he's -- he's trapped. He's in a lot of pain, you know? We got to try and...we got to try and pull him out of his loop. We have to." Ed said as he stands up and faces Corbett. "Ed." Sam and Harry said. "Corbett. Corbett, it's -- Oh, god." Ed said as he looks down at the salt line.
"Don't cross the line of salt." Harry said. Ed hesitates, then steps over the salt line, confronting the ghost of Corbett. "I gotta do it, Harry." Ed said. Harry looks over at Sam, who nods, and Ed turns to Corbett. "Corbett, listen to me. Okay, I'm not gonna hurt you. Listen. Listen. Oh, god. Corbett. Oh." Ed said but then the ghost starts to flicker.
"Get back!" Harry shouts and Ed quickly retreats. "oh, god. Whoa. Oh, I can't, okay? He's not hearing me, okay? He won't stop dying." Ed said, fearfully.
Meanwhile, Dean is attempting to break down the basement door that's still separating Dean, (y/n) and Spruce from the others. (y/n) turns and sees that Spruce was still holding his camera and he had it aimed at her ass. "Hey!" She growls and he moves the camera back to her face. "Eyes up here, buddy. And are you seriously still shooting?" She asked. "It makes him feel better. Don't ask." Dean said when there was camera interference and flickering in Spruce's camera.
"Ah, hell, guys. Get in your ghost-role thing. Something's coming." Spruce said as he spins around and sees Daggett. Daggett then knocks Spruce and his camera to the ground, causing him to roll and scream. Spruce screamed as Daggett approaches Spruce, but is shot and dissipated by (y/n).
"I...I know how we can get through to him." Harry said. "How?" Sam asked him and Harry looks over at Ed. "Ed...He had feelings for you." He said and Ed gives him a bewildered and shocked look. "He wanted you." Harry said. "Wa-- wanted me to what?" Ed said, confused. "You know..." Harry said then he demonstrates with a slight grunt and pelvic thrust
"And you know what you've got to do. You can do it, Ed. You've always been the brave one. Yes, you can. You make us brave -- Maggie, right?" Harry said to her. "Yeah. Yeah you do. You totally do." Maggie said as Ed looks between them. "Ed...You got to go be gay for that poor, dead intern. You got to send him into the light." Harry said then Ed looks over at Sam.
"It should work." Sam said and then Ed approaches the ghost of Corbett again. "Corbett." Ed said as he steps over the salt line. "Corbett, look. Hey, it's just Ed, buddy. It's just me. Hey, hey, Corbett, listen to me. Listen to me." Ed said as he approaches Corbett..
"I -- we...Okay. You meant...Corbett, you meant a lot to the team. You meant...You meant a lot to me. You know, never back down...Never say a bad word, okay? I remember that, Corbett. I-I remember that. I remember because I love you, Corbett. I really, truly love you. Do you remember that? do you?" Ed asked, a tear running down his face, and then Corbett looks over at Ed.
"Hey. Ed?" he asked. "Yeah. Yeah, Corbett, it's...Corbett, yeah, it's me. It's me. look at me. You got to help us, man. you have to help us, Corbett. Please. please. Please help us right now." Ed begs as Corbett stares at Ed.
"Take it easy. You all right?" (y/n) asked Spruce when there was camera interference and flickering in Spruce's camera. The ghost of Daggett appears behind Dean. "Uh, guys..." Spruce said then Daggett throws Dean, then (y/n) against the wall and was about to attack Spruce.
"This is bad -- very bad." Spruce stammers, fearfully, when Corbett appears behind Daggett. "Corbett?" Spruce said, confused, then Corbett's ghost attacks Daggett and they both disappear in a blinding flash of light.
"You all right, guys?" Spruce asked as (y/n) and Dean pick themselves up off the floor. "You all right?" Spruce asked he comes up to the couple. "God." (Y/n) groans while Dean looks back at the camera, covering the lens with his hand.
Morning came as the door to the Morton House opens, and Ed, Sam, Dean, (y/n), Harry and Maggie exit. Harry and Maggie pause to hug, while Sam gives Ed his phone number on a scrap of paper and Dean checks on (y/n). Then they start to load up and leave
Leap year, February 29th, the Morton House. A tragic day. A day of souls bound in torment, of lives held in cruel balance. But the Ghostfacers, they did the best that they could.
We lost a beloved friend, but we gained new allies.
We know this much: that every day, including today, is a new beginning. We learned more than we can say in the brutal feat of the Morton House.
The Ghostfacers were forced to face something far more scary than ghosts. They were forced to face themselves.
War changes Man.
 And Maggie and (y/n).
War changes man. And two women...You know Corbett, we just...ah gosh, we just like to think that you're out there, watching over us.
As far as we're concerned, you're not an intern anymore. You have more than earned full Ghostfacer status. Plus, it would be cool to have a ghost on the team.
Yeah. Heh heh. And here we were thinking that, you know, we were teaching you and all this time you were teaching us, about heart, about dedication, and about how gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day. Thank you, Alan J. Corbett.
Go well into that starry night, young Turk. Go well.
"Come on, Spruce, I gotta get all this stuff packed up!" Corbett said as he and Spruce load up the van, getting ready to head to the Morton house. "So, pack and talk!" Spruce said as he aims the camera at him. "I don't know what to say." Corbett said. "Say what comes to mind. This is one of our confessional moments, Corbett, so confess. What did you think was going to happen tonight? What do you think is going to happen on this trip?" Spruce asked him.
Corbett sighs then thinks before he speaks up. "I think tonight, I really do, I think all of our dreams are going to come true." He replies then looks over at Spruce. "Does that sound stupid?" He asked. "Kind of does, yeah." Spruce said and the two chuckle a bit.
In Memory of Alan J. Corbett,
1985-2008
King of the Impossible
*(y/n)'s POV*
"So, guys, what do you think? Are you alright?" Ed asked us as the boys and I say there and finished watching Ed and Harry's show. "You know, I kind of think it was half-awesome." Dean replies. "Half-awesome? That - that's full-on good, right?" Maggie said, excited.
"Yeah, um, I mean it's bizarre how you all are able to honor Corbett's memory while grossly exploiting the manner of his death. Well done." Sam said as Dean secretly slips the device into a backpack under the table. "Yeah. It's a real tight rope you guys are walking there." I said. "Yeah, all right guys." Sam mutters.
"Nah, that's reality, man. Yeah, Corbett gave his life searching for the truth, and it's our job over here to share it with the world." Ed said. "Right. Well, um, our experience, you know what you get when you show the world the truth?" Sam asked him. "A straightjacket." I said. "Or a punch in the face. Sometimes both." Dean adds. "Right." Sam said.
"Oh come on, guys, don't be 'facer haters just because we happen to have gotten the footage of the century." Harry exclaims. "Oh yeah." Ed said. "You got us there." I said, shrugging. "Yeah." Sam said. "Yeah, well we'll see you guys around." Sam said as we start to head towards the door.
"Peace out." Spruce said as Sam, Dean and I leave and Ed shuts the door behind us.
"We clean?" Sam asked as we get to the Impala. Suddenly, we hear Ed shout. "No! are you kidding me?"
"Electromagnet wiped out every tape and hard drive that they have." Dean said, smiling. "The world just isn't ready for the Ghostfacers." I said as we get into the car. "It's too bad. I kinda liked the show." Dean said. "It had its moments." Sam said and I nod. "Yeah, it was pretty entertaining." I added then Dean starts the Impala and we drive off.

RUST ANON I READ BOTH OF THEM AND THEY WERE BOTH AMAZING 😭😭😭 PLS I BEG FOR MLRE CRUMBS OR ANYRHING RUST RELAted oR WRITTEN BY YIU
You know it’s funny because Chevy has me daydreaming about them at the grocery store so that will have to be written, I really need them to argue about fresh vs canned fruit and Rust to teach Sugar how to make sweet tea :(
I have some incomplete stuff that I started and thought 1. Lazy writing warm up that does nothing (Maggie going to Doumain’s) 2. this would never fucking happen (circa early 2012) and 3. This is entirely too horny to put in a chapter with already exceedingly long smut (post stabbing recovery) lmao so here they are
Tumblr media
Sugar lost a coin flip and is on her knees under the bar for the afternoon. Rust does the bookkeeping for the next inventory order and Bob drinks himself face down onto the bar, the lucky bastard.
“Don’t forget to clear the lines,” Rust reminds her, too cheerfully, and disappears into the back room before she can tell him to go fuck himself. Sugar keeps scrubbing the fridge out, not stopping when she hears the front door open. Doumain’s can run on the honor system so she doesn’t get up to see which regular straggled in for their post-fishing refreshments.
“Excuse me? I’m looking for Rustin Cohle.”
“I don’t know anyone by that name, ma’am,” Sugar responds, voice echoing in the cool cavity she has her damn head stuck in until she can get the back corner clean.
“Oh,” she sounds disappointed, rather than irritated, which piques Sugar’s interest but not enough to look up. This woman, whoever she is, sounds polished and put together and Sugar doesn’t know why she’s in a place like this. “Well, if you see him—” Sugar stops herself from snapping at her— “will you let him know Margaret Sawy— Hart, Maggie Hart wants to talk to him?”
The bar rattles when Sugar bangs the back of her head hard enough to wake Bob. She’s holding the back of her head when she stands, meeting eyes so, so blue and wide in concern.
“Who’s the bird?” Bob asks, voice rough with sleep.
“Are you—?” Maggie asks as the same time.
Sugar can’t register either question and calls out, “Rust!”
Maggie quirks a brow that makes Sugar feel reprimanded enough to mouth a quick sorry, before patting Bob’s shoulder and tilting her head to the back room for him to follow her.
“I ain’t clearing those lines, you lost fair and—” Rust falls silent mid-step, halting in the doorway that was Sugar’s escape.
“Rust,” Maggie greets softly, “It’s good to see you.”
“Bullshit,” he replies, flat without any true menace. Sugar wants to be anywhere but here.
“I talked to Marty,” Maggie starts.
“I hear you talked to the cops, too,” Rust says, heavy with accusation, but he steps forward enough that Sugar can dart out.
“Yes, them, too,” she says. Sugar can feel Maggie looking at her when she pulls on Bob’s elbow. “How are you?”
“What’d Marty tell you?”
“Who is she?” Bob asks in the backroom, just out of sight.
“Maggie,” Sugar whispers back and his brows jump.
“He wanted to know what the police asked me about. He said he was helping you with something. That’s it. How long have you been back?”
“Hear you got a big house,” Rust says, choosing again not to answer her question, voice only slightly less hostile. “Marty says the girls are doing fine. That’s good.”
“Rust,” she says, the edge of pleading make Sugar and Bob exchange a look, “Just tell me it’s something that’s not gonna get him hurt.”
“Well, I can’t tell you that. It never sat right with me, and it doesn’t now, you asking me to lie to you about him. Now, get out of here. You’re classing the place up.” A stool scrapes the ground and the door opens and closes again but Sugar and Bob don’t move until Rust says, volume conversational, “Come on out.”
“You know how to hold a grudge, brother,” Bob comments first as he retakes his seat and Rust only grunts, watching the white SUV pull away before he grabs a bottle of whiskey and three glasses.
“I think I’m concussed,” Sugar mutters, rubbing the back of her head.
The lock jingles and Sugar looks up but doesn’t move from where she’s curled up. Rust swings his keys into his palm with a low whistle.
“What are you doing?” he asks, stopping mid step when he sees her on the couch.
“Reading.”
“That’s not what I mean,” Rust says with a shake of his head, walks over without taking off his boots to hook a finger into her necklace. When he pulls slightly Sugar sits up straighter. “Get down.”
The embarrassment is a show, unfolding her legs slowly and not looking away from him to not miss any further instruction. Sugar sits on her heels, chasten on her knees and at this level she notices for the first time her bed is a few inches shorter than his. She’s about to snip about how he should just crate her when he goes to work if he doesn’t want her on the furniture, but his hand curls around her necklace before she can open her mouth. The chain and clasp are sturdy, on purpose likely, with how easy it is for him to hold her down by it. His curled knuckles press down on the back of her neck until her cheek is on the floor and holds her there until the lesson takes root.
“Daax,” he says, not stern but firm enough for her to not move. Heat flushes her cheeks even as she relaxes further onto her forearms and she stays, just like he said. Sugar might find this degrading if it weren’t for the absence of tension as her entire self decompresses.
Rust moves some things around in the kitchen cupboards, ice hits glass, a liquid splashes. He returns without saying a word and Sugar can hear him take a drink after he sits down, his leg bends over her lowered shoulders, boot near her flat hand.
“Ts’uus.”
Sugar carefully sits back on her heels as he told her to do.
“‘Aani.”
Her first instinct is to stand but she swallows, putting her palm on the floor, one and then the other to crawl between his spread knees. She sits with her hands in her lap, poised to break at the first askance of compliance. Rust touches under her chin with a slight smile, “Gheli.”
Sugar can’t help it, she really can’t, when her hips cant forward— good.
Rust is awake and smoking already when she rolls over, her back to the room, sheets tight over the curve of her hip.
“Sugar.”
Her answer is a questioning hum.
“Can you do something for me?”
“What’s that?” she asks sleepily, rubbing her eye and twisting to look at him.
“Get on your hands and knees.”
He exhales, billowing and cloud-like, as she rises slowly, positioning herself as he requested, the sheet slips off and she’s bare. Sugar pushes her messy braid over her shoulder where it coils down her spine.
“Like this?”
“Yeah,” Rust confirms, taking his time in the next drag, “stretch your arms out, lower your chest— no, all the way, Sugar.”
Her eye, peeking over her bicep, doesn’t move from him.
“The fucking sight of you,” he mutters, “Now how can I keep you just like that?”
“What’s all this for?” Sugar asks, smile hidden behind her arm as she adjusts her hips.
“My health and safety,” he replies, deadpan, hand falling onto his stomach where the skin is still pink from having staples removed. Rust stands with a grunt, dropping his filter into an ashtray, before walking to Sugar’s bed. “Now, don’t move and just let me figure a few things out.”
Standing behind her, Rust pulls on one of her ankles and then the other until her knees are on the edge of her mattress. He yanks her hips back so her ass is where it’s supposed to be and smoothes his hands up her back, feeling her spine arch and stretch. Her body still loose with sleep in the morning sunlight. Rust covers her shoulder blades with his hands, holding them down into the mattress.
“Try pushing your hips back,” he says. She presses against his pelvis, the heat of her bleeding into his skin, and he smiles at the annoyed noise she makes against her sheets when she can’t move any further, “This might work— how much rope do we have?”
“I’m not some bitch who keeps killing her studs. I can stay still,” she promises with a laugh.
“You sound sure and all, honey, but it’s been, what, four weeks, now, and you’ve been eyeing me like you’re ready to pounce,” he states, standing straighter with his hands fitting to the curve of her waist. “Can you understand my trepidation of wrasslin’ you? I’m very fragile right now, Sugar.”
“The hell you are,” she scoffs, folding her arms and resting her cheek on her forearms while he rubs the heel of his palms into her lower back. “You moved a keg yesterday.”
“It was empty,” he argues, before he pushes her hips forward a few inches to look down between them, “have you missed me?”
“We’re together everyday.”
“That’s not what I mean—” Rust guides her hand to the wet spot on his briefs— “that’s you, honey.”
Sugar tries to hide her face but he’s already clocked the redness on her cheeks, light and splotchy between her shoulder blades.

What’s new in town?:
Wicked’s Rest is celebrating the winter season with its Frost Bites Festival! Check out our ongoing seasonal event for a winter market, ugly sweaters, teleporting reindeer, Krampus, and so much more.
The reindeer are organizing. No one knows what they're organizing. But they've been sending shifty glances at anyone walking by, and huddling together. The mood has been described as "sinister".
The giant fog fish seen hovering above Worm Row's woods probably isn't a good sign. Some think it's just a very detailed cloud, but other people know better. It's been shedding equally foggy scales around, and anyone lucky enough to find one and hold it (as it dissolves in their hands) will feel like they're being watched for a while. The Shrimple also like the fog fish.
Someone drew what looks like a map in the snow, and those with a sharp eye might realize it's a map of The Pile. So what does X mark?
Starters:
Teddy is looking for a lost puppy slayer. Please send him any information you have.
What's up with the pasta in the trees? Natalia wants to know.
Winter is thinking of having a housewarming party and this might be your chance to RSVP.
Emilio's not dead. Just so you know.
Someone stole Fluffy's tie and Metzli is going to get it back so you should really help.
Finn is contemplating if he should visit the local 24-hr laundromat and risk being murdered or... skip it.
Mahuika regrets to inform the person who ordered Taco Bell that they no longer have any Taco Bell.
Maggie made a reindeer friend and doesn't understand the hate they're getting. She might need help naming one. Hypothetically.
Anita's got $100 for anyone who can produce information about those weird worm things on the trees.
Gia wants to know if she's the only one who came home from the festival literally singing.

Chapter 1: The beginning
Taylor's POV
My mom had always said a man looks best when he's wearing a suit and I don't think I had fully understood that phrase until that moment. Matty had been at some photoshoot earlier and was too lazy to go home and change. Although not too lazy to get some wine to Jack's studio all the way down Brooklyn. Same wine we were drinking straight from the bottle. Margaret and Jack shared one, and he and I shared another.
My eyes were fixated on his mouth while he was drinking, and I could feel his eyes at the time that he handed me the bottle when I mimicked his actions. Jack was mumbling something at the piano, hitting the Do as if he could get a song from it. Maybe he'd do it. A part of me wanted to join him but the other was being drawn to the guy with the messy hair, and surprisingly enough, I caught myself daydreaming about running my fingers through his hair drawing an imaginary line from his neck to the ink in his arms. I only came back to reality when I heard him coughing, and by the look in his eyes, I wondered if he had read my mind.
-I think I need to grab a bite so the wine doesn't get to my head-
His words seemed to be directed to me, or at least I was the only one paying attention to them, because Jack's mind had already created a world with his short melody and Margaret was dragged into it.
-Come here, if you are lucky enough, the cleaning lady might have already done the shopping, and if not, I think I can get you some toast...-
I headed into the kitchen without looking back as if I was to become a pile of salt. We entered the kitchen and I opened one of the cupboards. Just pop tarts to eat and a bag with two top slices of bread. I cracked a smile when I heard Matty's frustrated groans.
-Of course, I had to come to the flat of the worst Jewish in the city-
I took the pop-tarts and ripped them open, -I actually like the cinnamon-, I replied.
He was smirking. There was no need to look at him for me to know it. I put them in a toaster and I wondered if I should take another package for the lovebirds to have. Lost in that train of thought, I didn't realize the moment he got behind me sniffing the air.
-Surely the cinnamon doesn't smell half bad.-
I could swear his voice was lower than usual.
-Should we get them out before they get too crunchy?" His arm brushed my skin as he reached for the pastry.-
I tilted my head to see his eyes and soon I was trapped between both of his arms. I actually don't know if this thing is going to kill me.
-I'm not used to this level of processed sugar.
-Yeah, god forbid you to put anything synthetic into your organism.
-Oh, I've done that. -
His laugh made me wince. He broke the pop tart in two and took one half to my mouth. "Blow", he said. I obeyed and took a bite. I like the flavor of cinnamon but I knew the warm feeling inside of me wasn't related to it.
He took the other half of the pop tart to his mouth without letting me go and all I could do was turn my body to face him.
-How could you lie to me? Is this what you people wanted to do when you got free from the motherland?-
-Oh I'm sorry we don't have fish and chips for you.And what’s that synthetic thing you’ve put inside of you? Nevermind I don’t wanna hear it, you’re gross. -
-Nothing harder than drugs-
And there we had the laugh again. But this time I felt him and I swore something was going to happen until I heard the voices.
Phoebe danced into the room holding the guy with the funny accent whose name I can never remember because, for me, he will always be that character he played in that hulu series.
-Maggie told me you'd be here-. She said with a bright smile on her face, and Matty snorted. He was not holding me anymore, but he was really close to me, and I could see this guy's eyes taking notes in the distance.
- Don't let her hear you. She hates that nickname, or maybe she only hates it when someone other than Jack is saying it. Maybe it's their kink. Matty added
The expression of Phoebe's boyfriend slightly changed when he joked.
-Ok, but do you think it's a safe word for Jack to say if he feels that Margaret it's been too harsh on him?- Phoebe contributed
-I don't know. I wouldn't dismiss my boy so easily. Maybe Maggie is her pet name.- I was surprised by the words coming out of my mouth, but Matty always had that effect on me. Around him, I was always more careless. Freer.
-How come you came to my house uninvited to discuss my sex life? - Jack’s voice pretended to sound offended but in reality, he seemed unaffected by the comments.-but again the only one who gives me a little credit is Tay-Tay- we fist bumped.
-I also criticized your nation's taste in food.-Matty muttered, and that dude around Phoebe nodded. -Americans' taste buds have been really affected throughout the years.-
-Oh!, Paul is just sour because we have the best McDonald's - Phoebe said while hanging her arms around her boyfriend, but again Matty was the one who answered.
-I'll give you that. And some other good things too- And by the look on Jack's face and the heat on my cheeks I knew everyone in the room realized how I felt about Matty's statement.
It was evident that we were all feeling comfortable hanging around with each other, but I couldn’t help but feel a certain type of uneasiness around Phoebe’s boyfriend. And I don’t want to be misunderstood by saying this, it’s not that he wasn’t fun to be around, but I felt like he could expose this thing between Matty and I, whatever it was, I didn’t even know how to explain it myself. Jack and Margaret could pretend it wasn’t there, but how do you manage to hide it away from your boyfriend’s best friend? Did I need to worry about it at all? Was there really something to be exposed or judged between two old friends connecting again? We never truly became strangers, we barely lost touch, and it was somehow refreshing to be enjoying ourselves again. However,my relationship with Matty was everything except a random connection…

Jason and Y/N have a total of 14 kids that Y/N adopted off the street (don't worry Y/N will probably find more to take in...). Jason and Y/N ended up having to buy a huge house with lots of bedrooms and a hundred acres of land in case someone *cough* Y/N *cough* decides to take in more kids, then they'll have to add on. At least there's plenty of room! There's plenty of trees and a big pond where the Todds spend their weekends together having a picnic as a big, dysfunctional, happy family. They also own three dogs, three cats, horses (again, thanks to Y/N because Jason is a sucker for them and them only. Whatever Y/N wants Y/N gets), chickens, cows, ducks, fish, koi fish in the pond, and two donkeys named Donkey and Dragon all thanks to one of their daughters who is obsessed with watching Shrek. Like so obsessed she dressed up as Fiona for five Halloweens straight and had multiple Shrek themed birthdays... Don't even think about washing her donkey plushie when she's awake of she will scream... It freaked out Jason for a while. Shopping? Oh, well, that's something itself. Thought it was hard shopping with Jason? Think again. It's much worse with Jason plus 14 kids and they all want McDonald's on the way home. Before you go asking how the Todds get to the store with 14 kids in a normal truck/car, they don't, they drive a school bus Y/N "found" one day while out and about. They still have their sports bikes and vehicles they love so much, but when it's family shopping day it's the bus. Dinner? Everyone is helping out one way or another. It's so chaotic, but Jason and Y/N wouldn't have it any other way. Everyone at their kids school knows not to mess with them because they have crazy—but awesome—parents. Alex is the only one that is deaf so he is homeschooled, and everyone learned sign language just for him. The first time everyone signed the whole happy birthday song he had tears in his eyes and the biggest smile on his face. Not picking favorites or anything but he's definitely a Y/N's little boy. Monday night is movie night and they have to keep track on who's turn it is to pick out a movie or world war III breaks out, and it ain't pretty. Jason stopped buying nice vases after those few times they didn't keep track... Sunday is date night for Jason and Y/N, and nothing will interfere with it because Jason will throw a fit (unless it was an emergency). No doubt you'll find Maggie cuddled between her parents when it's thundering outside, her little Robin teddy bear held tightly in her arms as she snores peacefully. Snow days are perfect, everyone outside playing in the snow (playing a game of snowball fights that tend to get out of hand) and drinking hot chocolate afterwards, wrapped up in blankets while sitting around the fireplace. Jason scolding his kids after they snuck a raccoon in the house without his permission all while Y/N grins sheepishly at Jason as they hold the hands of twins who both have matching smiles on their little faces, both missing a front tooth, and Jason sighing, shaking his head with a small smile on his lips thinking to himself how he got so lucky to have Y/N and his big family he wouldn't give up for the world.

The blessing/curse of the BiblioCommons library system is that yes, it's fun to be able to keep a record of your checkouts (even if you have to do so manually), but also makes it suuuuuuper easy to see at a glance what's been weeded, and that is never good for my heart.
Because I clearly have too much time on my hands today, as of August 2023, here is the list of what's disappeared from my checkouts of Feb. 2020-March 2022 (when I lost my card/switched to using husband's so I wouldn't have to memorize a new number for Libby, and didn't want to clutter his account with my records) (I do have my own card back now, fyi):
listed in no particular order; year given is the edition's publication year, which is often the same as copyright year but sometimes more recent
Fiction
The Map of Lost Memories - Kim Fay (2012) -- was still on my TBR 👿
The Visitors - Simon Sylvester (2015)
The Swiss Affair - Emylia Hall (2014)
The Dragon Book - various (2009) -- collection of short stories; I'm pissed about this one because it includes a Tamora Pierce story about Daine/Numair/Kitten
YA
The Rules - Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguié (2015)
Bitter End - Jennifer Brown (2011)
Lucky T - Kate Brian (2007) -- tbh it was a miracle that one lasted as long as it did and I know it (never did get around to reading it though)
The Traitor Game - B.R. Collins (2008)
Juvenile Books
The Meaning of Maggie - Megan Jean Sovern (2014)
The Forest Has Eyes - Bev Doolittle (1998) -- dammit, coolest picture book
Letters to Seabiscuit (2003)
Nonfiction
Life at Home in the 21st Century: 32 Families Open Their Doors - Jeanne E. Arnold (2012) -- unsurprising because chunky coffee table book, but man it was cool and fun to look at
Cats in the Belfry - Doreen Tovey (2008)
Roses Round the Door - Doreen Tovey (1982 -- or so the record says but I think it was a bit more recent, maybe also a 2000s edition)
Audiobook on CD
Fish in a Tree - Lynda Mullaly Hunt (2015)
Home in Carolina - Sherryl Woods (2010)
DVD
Childhood's End
TAKEAWAY:
So it's actually not as bad as I thought it might be; this represents only 8% of what I checked out in that time period...but we'll see how it compares the longer I track this stuff.
That said, for all the final-weeds I have managed to get lucky with finding, including some books I really loved, I did not see a single one of these on a sale cart / in a library sale, which is annoying because there are only a few of these that I wouldn't have snapped up. Book fairies! I can't really complain because you do still tip a lot of treasure into my path, but also, COME ON.

major inscryption spoiler btw haha
feeling Normal and Sane about the scrybes (its long)
anyway im trying to figure out how tf leshy actually took over. totally unrelated to this second google doc i opened labeled peepaw
so, i think it would be reasonable that leshy goes after magnificus first. writing out maginificus is a pain so im just gonna call magnificus maggie. maggie has Some eye premonition/predict powers and is also a wizard, and also a bit of a bastard so i think it would make sense.
and it wouldn’t be a card battle, hell no these two grandpas are going to duke it out at the top of the mage tower. maybe someone gets thrown out the window, but point is: leshy, somewhere along the line, gets out a Knife. The Knife. i am wiggling eyebrows at you
so leshy digs out maggies eye to stop maggie from fucking predicting his moves, that’s cheating, and uses the camera to put maggie into a card. scrybe #1 done.
(yknow thinking of, did leshy intend to have the other scrybes be permanent cards? did he start out thinking he could probably reverse this later along the way during his takeover? please give me pre-game lore about the scrybes)
scrybe #2: po3! good lord this one gives leshy the most headaches, because po3 manages to figure out that leshy’s gone after maggie somehow and has set up a lot of traps and just keeps being difficult and annoying and dodging his camera and possibly trying to also lure leshy into falling off the platform and thus the start of a beautiful hatred (just pure hatred) between the two begins
po3 is now a stoat and hating it. time for scrybe #3
okay this one is just kind of Ow, im looking at this post in particular because grimora and leshy friendship is making me hurt. grimora wouldn’t know! grimora wouldn’t have any fuckin idea! grimora would say oh hi leshy, are you here for a cup of tea and leshy doesn’t even try to say anything he’s laser focused on taking over and now they’re fighting oh dear :(
i think grimora flees to the other side of the island, breaking the bridge while doing so as an attempt to stop leshy. leshy, being leshy, cannot be stopped by bridge and confronts grimora at maggie’s tower. grimora doesn’t go down with a fight, though, and maybe leshy has to induce some brain damage before finally getting grimora as a card. memory issues real
so, here they go. leshy now has all three scrybes as cards and has his angler fish up a chunk of OLD_DATA, and starts playing by his own rules. (was it really, really worth it?)
and then little lucky carder digs up a certain game, and leshy finally - finally gets his well deserved player all to himself.
anyway i dont know im talking to a wall feel free to talk to me about this. im going insane
