Gregory Peck in to kill a mockingbird was genuinely such a monumental moment for MANY in their gcse English class. Too late to be an awakening but the first time that man appeared on screen you Knew and Understood in you heart and soul what a beautiful man was

today in more zolu thoughts: yet another thing I find fascinating about zoro and luffy's relationship, which I believe the LA managed to capture pretty well despite the differences between it and the og source material, is that while zoro's capacity for loyalty and devotion where luffy's concerned are insane (the all-encompassing, heartfelt, lay down my life and dreams for you, follow you until death or the very end of everything kind of crazy), they're not entirely unconditional per se. the condition here being that he has to measure up to zoro's standards - that luffy has to prove himself a man worthy of following.
there are plenty examples of this in the manga, but I'll stick to where it and opla intersect. so manga!zoro pretty much stands firm with this condition when he agrees to follow luffy, warning him about not getting in the way of zoro's dream right away. opla zoro is a lot more reluctant to join in comparison, and he just seemingly goes along with the whole thing in a more "might as well" manner; even so, there's these few subtle moments where you can see him being struck awe by luffy's faith in himself/his dream (the dinner at kaya's) and showing exactly why he's a "different" kind of pirate (ie freeing the folks from orange town).
still, the most pivotal moment is zoro's fight with mihawk in both cases. this is where luffy has to really prove himself to zoro, for the first time. because talk of dreams and promises and not hindering them is nice and all, but can luffy really stand by what he says when push comes to shove? when the life of someone he cares about is on the line? and man. the answer is yes.
in the manga, by stopping johnny and yosaku from intervening and refusing to do so himself as well, even though he was deeply upset by zoro getting hurt, luffy proved he wouldn't go back on his word nor betray zoro's trust and the faith he had placed in him. in a similar fashion, opla luffy letting zoro go ahead with the duel despite his own apprehension/doubts and nami questioning both of their choices, is what finally led to zoro recognizing him as his captain out loud and accepting his role as a first mate.
I just think it's interesting that these two kind of make each other walk on a tightrope. only the world's greatest swordsman can stand by the pirate king's side. the pirate king can have the world's greatest swordsman by his side, if he proves himself worthy of it. but the best part? for me, it's that zoro and luffy are able to challenge one another this way (or set the bar that high) because they absolutely believe the other can rise up to it and beyond.

Kenta
Tumblr media
Okay. It is once again time for me to talk about my number one little man. I was interested in Kenta from the very beginning, and at some point I realized that I was not going to be normal about him, but I really did not anticipate how much he would come to mean to me. I hope y'all have enjoyed witnessing my descent into feral blorbo state. It is not over for me in the slightest.
I want to say that Garfield really acted the shit out of this role, and the writers knew what they were doing when they cast him. His arc was so important to the overall plot, with his growth being pivotal to Tony's downfall, and yet he had a relatively small amount of dialogue to work with (although certainly not the smallest amount of the cast).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot of his scenes involve him standing in Tony's office, taking instructions, or even just simply observing. A lot of his lines are based around business deals and errands—rather than furthering his emotional development. He doesn't give big speeches, he doesn't talk about his feelings or his dreams, it's always just "I'm doing xyz for Tony, and I will never betray him."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of his most dialogue heavy scenes are in one stairwell with Pete and in another with Tony, which I think are extremely pivotal moments, both of which reveal a fear of abandonment.
But it's honestly when he's quiet that he says the most.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I love that, I'm obsessed with it. I love that the whole fandom could insantly tell that he and Pete had something going on, just from the way they looked at each other. I love that the storytelling in his arc was so highly visual.
In the beginning, Kenta appears to be nothing more than Tony's lackey: quiet, intimidating, and actively complicit with what is going on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But as we see him more and more, it becomes exceedingly apparent that he cares, so much. I know I am biased in saying this, but I do also pay close attention to what other people are saying about Kenta, and I know almost everyone has been waiting the entire series to see him stand up to Tony. The amount of acting that Garfield did with his eyes, while remaining such a stoic character, was insane.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite him repeatedly declaring his loyalty to Tony, despite the fact that he does not reveal any actions against Tony until episode 12, we feel so much of his inner conflict.
Tumblr media
I think for me, personally, the aspect of Kenta's character that I relate to the most is his inability to speak up when he wants to. I've struggled with selective mutism my entire life, and there have been countless, countless scenarios where I've had so many things to say and no ability to say them. The more dire the situation, the more my words fail me. I have to spend so much of my energy constantly planning for potential conflict scenarios just so I can have the time I need to figure out which words to use. Because it can sometimes take months for me to figure out certain phrases. And because it is so painful to stay silent when you want to tell someone to stop. To stop fighting, to stop hurting each other, to stop hurting me.
So I was beyond moved and proud to watch Kenta finally be able to protect his brothers and quietly say the one thing he has wanted to say all along.
Tumblr media
Don't hurt anyone anymore.
Tumblr media
Don't hurt anyone anymore.
Tumblr media
Don't hurt anyone anymore.
I will take some of the words that P'Chod gave to Garfield before they went into production. "It’s just you want to live in a peaceful house and be happy together.” All we want is peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wish that Kenta had not been forced to kill Tony because I don't think he has ever wanted to hurt anyone. But I'm sure as hell not sorry that he did it. There will always be people who are unwilling to stop.
Tumblr media
And I recognize that Kenta tried a peaceful method first. He gave X-Hunter what they needed to put Tony in jail, and Tony refused to give up. He was never going to be the kind of person who would simply surrender. To him, these people's lives are property that he is entitled to.
Here is an auto translation of something Garfield said about Kenta at the final episode screening.
"I already knew that Kenta would be similar to me, in that I'm someone who doesn't dare to express my feelings to the people around me, saying very little. So when I got the role, I felt… that it teaches us that as long as we dare to be ourselves and do things that make us happy, that's enough."
We may never know what happened to Kenta after Tony died, but I hope he is able to find his peace. I hope he is able to engage with restorative justice, and I hope he is able to learn what family really should be.
And I hope that someone, anyone, will give him a goddamned hug.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first shot / the last shot
Thank you, Kenta, from the bottom of my heart, for showing us yours.

Its honestly so painful to me, the sheer amount of turmoil that Anakin has experienced in his life. If you really sit down and think about what he's been through, he truly is one of the most tragic characters in fiction.
Born a slave to a single mother on a backwater, forgotten, barren world with no opportunities (Sidenote as much as we laugh at the "I don't like sand" meme, it actually is a meaningful line. He hates that world, that life, wants to put it behind him. Can't help but think of the mother he abandoned there)
Forced to choose between freedom and leaving his mother to her fate. A ridiculous amount of pressure to put on a 9 year old
Loses the only father figure he's had, and ultimately the only person to truly show faith in him, almost immediately after finding him
Becomes a burden and disappointment to a reluctant, inexperienced master (Before you come at me, I ADORE Obi-Wans and Anakins relationship. I love their banter, and I truly think they loved one another ridiculously and my heart breaks at what they became. But I do think that Anakin felt like a burden and disappointment sometimes. Especially at the beginning, Obi-Wan only really takes him on out of duty to Qui-Gon, it wouldn't have been his own choice. He didn't believe in him the way Qui-Gon did. And because Obi himself was grieving and young and inexperienced, he didn't have the confidence to guide Anakin the way he should have. He falls back on the rules too much, after bending them to take him on in the first place. He's too strict with him, too harsh. He doesn't tell him how much he loved him until it's too late, which just adds to the angst)
Is constantly told that he needs to let go of his attachment to his mother whilst being plagued my dreams of her death.
Watches his mother die in his arms with the knowledge if only he could have done something sooner he could have saved her (and this is the moment I think, pivotally, that his capacity for the dark side becomes real. Not the moment when he kills the Tuscans in anger just after. But in this quiet moment of death. The moment that voice in his head starts burrowing like a worm "Not enough, more, better, faster, stronger". If he could just burn hotter, brighter, push harder, then no one else would die.)
Is thrust into a war at 19
Is entrusted with a 14 year old apprentice at 20. Loves her like family only to watch the order he gave up everything for, the order that let his mother die, the order that is the reason he cannot have a normal life with his wife, drive his little sister away from him.
Plagued to madness by visions of his wife dying. Goes insane to try to save her only to be her own downfall. Is cut into pieces and left to burn alive by his brother. Suffers excruciating pain being pieced back together. Is forced to live with the knowledge that he led to the love of his life's death, where every breath is a reminder of the monster he has become.
Becomes increasingly aware that his new master, the only person he has left, the person he betrayed everyone for, the person he trusted in his times of need and thought understood him, would toss him away without a second thought and replace him with Luke.
That smile when he takes off the mask and looks at Luke in Return of the Jedi means so much. It's so pure, and light and carefree for those few seconds. The first time we've ever seen him truly at peace. He is finally free from the pain.

Favourite gallavich kiss ? And why
Thanks for asking !!
My favourite gallavich kiss is the s3 wedding kiss. U can probably tell cause of my pfp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS CHANGED MY LIFE.
I like it for a few reasons. First cause it's the first long kiss we get, and it has a LOT of emotion.
The fact that mickey kisses Ian here means so much to me. You would expect Mick to be more standoffish after what happened with Terry. Up till this point, it was pretty much always 1 step forward 2 steps back with him. When Ian goes to see him before the wedding to talk to him, mickey is as expected, not very nice. He doesn't want to talk to Ian or even look at him. But now mickey is kissing him. Instead of that 2nd step back, mickey is progressing again.
This is such a pivotal moment for Mickeys character imo. This, to me, is the real start of mickeys desperation to be with Ian. Yeah, mickey has kissed Ian before this point, but it didn't have this kinda passion. Some of Mickeys biggest fears had just come true, but he loves Ian so much that he pushes past that fear and kisses him again. Not only is he kissing Ian after something that traumatic, but he's doing it in a place he knows he could easily be caught by the wrong person. When he kisses Ian the first time, he makes sure no one is around, and its fast so no one can catch them (man was probably nervous too). Even when he invites Ian to stay, he does it because he knows Terry will be gone. Mickey is choosing Ian in the moment over his own safety. He's taking a big risk, something he hasn't done to this level before. Mickey keeps making big steps after this happens.
Ian kissing him back is just as important to me. Ian has no real reason to keep chasing mickey, but he does anyway. Mickey beats him up , and he still goes to the wedding to try to convince him he can do better. It shows just how much good Ian sees in mickey. When Ian kisses back, it's because he has hope that he can make him and mickey work. Ian can seem like he doesn't always understand the mickeys situation, but he just got first-hand experience on how bad things can be with mickey. It would make sense for Ian to give up and take himself away from the danger. Ian doesn't do that he is there for mickey. He keeps trying and pushing.
And just look at the way they are holding each other.
Tumblr media
Mickey pulling Ian down is PERFECT.
I can literally feel the way mickey is choosing ian, the faith Ian has in mickey.
Forever going insane over them

I was rewatching my Buffy DVDs and found the JW commentary. Even though his views on women/feminism tainted this show, he does explain his directing decisions.
If you don't believe the Spuffy fans, at least believe the writers and actors who created their story!
Tumblr media
It's the "wait...Bangel was a big deal?" for me.
JW actually admits that Angel reappearing in the last episode and the Bangel kiss was, in fact, "fan service."
Emphasis on the VOCAL MINORITY that leads to the fan service. Something iconic enough (The Bangel kiss) to "give people hope( 😂) that Buffy and Angel might one day work out" - purple
I don't know what was going through that brain of his, but Parker was NOT "the most important relationship of her life." Like sir, where did that come from? - green
Tumblr media
The chemistry between both David/Sarah and James/Sarah is insane. However, I like how both relationships have their own distinct chemistry. - yellow
Spike is more on Buffy's level. he understands her, both physically and emotionally, something Angel struggles with. - orange
The relationship is more nuanced, we witnessed the development, and we watched it build from the ground up. We can point out pivotal moments in the relationship. Spike has more dynamic, he's not just "the tall, dark and handsome vampire" that seduces Buffy.
Buffy tells Spike things she wouldn't tell anybody else.
"These two" (Sarah/Buffy & James/Spike), yes, I agree 🤗- blue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Angel is described as an object of desire. Buffy falls in love because of his looks. If Angel wasn't attractive, would she have fallen for him? It's his body that "becomes the object of her gaze."
He really has his looks to offer. "He's tall, dark, and handsome" so he must be a love interest. "Otherwise what else would his purpose be?"
The analysis states that Angel functions as Buffy's "homme fatal," (An ultimately seductive and dangerous man; a womanizer) which gives a nod to Liam's character, his human self.
Tumblr media
Joss explains the comparisons between souled and soulless Spike and his behavior/change. Soulless Spike didn't recognize boundaries.
JW still highlights that Spike needs development before he and Buffy become "lovers" again.
The writer of the character and the story states that this man can be redeemed.

chapter ten: here’s to us
series masterlist
Tumblr media
“Here we are. One little lady safely dropped off at her dorm.” Peter said as he carefully landed outside of your dorm. Even after your feet were on the ground, you didn’t let go of him.
“Before you go.” You began. “I wanted to tell you that-“
“Oh my God. There you are.” Kate shouted from the top of your dorm stairs. You turned around as your friends pulled you out of Peters arms and into a hug.
“Are you okay? We were so worried about you.” Gwen asked as she smoothed your hair down.
“Who was it?” MJ asked. “I’ll kill him. I have a knife.”
“It’s true.” Kate nodded. “I’ve seen it.”
“I’m okay. Spiderman got there in time.” You said and gestured towards Peter.
“Oh, hey Peter. Thanks for bringing her back.” Kate said and nodded at him. Your stomach dropped when you heard this and you whipped your head in her direction.
“What did you just say?” You whispered.
“I said hey.” Kate shrugged.
“To Spiderman?” You asked.
“To Peter, yeah.” Kate nodded. You looked back and forth between the two of them but no one seemed as shocked as you were.
“Who told you that?” You whispered harshly.
“Peter did.” Gwen replied.
“You know too?” You gasped.
“Yeah. He told all of us when we were looking for you.”
“You told them?” You smiled in surprise and turned to Peter.
“I thought they should understand what happened to you.” Peter explained.
“So everyone knows now?” You asked and looked around at your friends.
“Yep.” MJ nodded. “We all know that Peter put on an old ninja mask from fifth grade instead of telling you who he was during a pivotal moment in your relationship.”
“Oh, yeah. I forgot about that.” You realized. “That was kinda insane actually.”
“Sorry about that.” Peter said sheepishly.
“It’s fine.” You laughed as Kate took your hand.
“Come on. You need to tell us everything that happened.” She said as she tugged you up your dorm stairs.
“And you need a thousand showers.” Gwen said out of the corner of her mouth.
“That’s what I said.” You told her as they led you to the front door. Peter watched you leaving and sighed. He was glad you were safe and with your friends but disappointed that you weren’t going to finish your conversation.
“Bye.” He called after you.
“Oh, bye spidey.” You called over your shoulder and waved.
“See you tomorrow.” He mumbled and turned to leave.
“Hold on guys. I’ll be right right back.” You told your friends and ran after Peter. You tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around.
“Thanks for saving my life. Again.” You laughed shyly.
“Anytime.” He nodded. “But hopefully it never happens again.”
“You never know. I hear it’s pretty dangerous to be Spider-Man’s girlfriend.”
“Yeah.” He sighed sadly. “You’re right. It is.”
“I know. I mean, look at what happened tonight. We don’t want something like this happening again.”
“Definitely not.” Petey agreed. “This guy was just some wacky loser but the next guy might be an actual threat.”
“Yeah. Maybe it’s better if we stay away from each other then.” You told him, making his heart sink. As much as he wanted to protest, he knew you were right.
“You’re probably right.” He reluctantly agreed as his heart ached in his chest. He stared at you and tried to memorize you and the way you looked tonight in case he never got to look you in the eyes again.
“Thank you, though. For everything. It was really nice while it lasted.” You said sincerely as you squeezed his hand.
“For me too.” He smiled sadly. “It was really nice.”
“Goodnight, Spiderman.” You squeezed his hand again and started to walk back to your dorm.
“Goodnight.” He said and watched you until you were safe inside. You turned and waved at him before going in and he weakly waved back. He let out a sigh and walked home alone. He could’ve swung home, but he felt too sad to do something that usually brought him joy. Your relationship with each other was 100% over now with no change of reconciling. The small hope he once had that you’d find your way back to each other was now gone. He cried as he trudged home and was grateful that his mask covered him. But when he remembered that he’d still be with you if he had just taken the mask off sooner, he no longer felt grateful for it. He just felt misery.
A few days later, Peter sat alone at a library table as he waited for Ned. He was mindlessly switching back and forth between different tabs when your backpack dropped onto the table.
“Hey stranger.” You said as you sat down beside him. Peter looked around for who you were talking to but saw that he was the only one there. He looked at you in confusion and you nodded to let him know that it was him you were talking to.
“Nice shirt, by the way.” You said and nodded towards his shirt with the pun about electrons and being positive. He looked down at his shirt and then looked at you in disbelief.
“Thanks. You too.” He complimented you, just like old times.
“This old thing?” You said playfully and tugged on your shirt. Peter punched his leg under the table to make sure he was awake and winced from the pain. Now that he knew he wasn’t dreaming, he was even more confused.
“I don’t mean this to sound rude, but why are you talking to me?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” You shrugged.
“I thought you said we should stay away from each other?” He quietly reminded you. You slowly turned to him and looked shocked.
“I said that to Spiderman. Have you been listening to my private conversations with that completely separate person?” You whispered. Peter stared at you in confusion until you cracked a smile. That’s when he realized what was going on.
“Actually, he’s a friend of mine. He tells me everything.” Peter played along. “And I heard that he was very upset about you wanting to stay away from each other.”
“Interesting. Then would you mind asking him why did he let me walk away? Cause I’ve been wondering.” You asked him. Your tone was playful, but Peter could tell you genuinely wanted to know.
“Because he loved you enough to value what you wanted more than what he wanted. He knew it was more important that you were safe then it was for him to be happy, so he let you walk away. Even though it killed him.” Peter answered honestly. You stared at him for a minute before smiling sadly.
“That’s exactly what I figured when he didn’t run after me that night.”
“He wanted to.” Peter assured you. “But he couldn’t live with himself if you got hurt because of him again.”
“That’s probably why I fell in love with him.” You shrugged. “Because he does things like that.”
“Don’t give him too much credit.” Peter laughed sadly. “He’s a major idiot too. He lies to the people he loves.”
“He’s definitely an idiot for not coming clean in the first place.” You agreed. “But I can’t say he didn’t try to tell the truth sooner. I just didn’t let him. And I think it’s time I stop punishing him for that.”
“It is?” Peter asked as hope grew in his chest.
“Well, I’ve been thinking.” You began.
“Uh oh.” Peter chuckled. “That’s never good.”
“Shut up. Now I don’t want to tell you.” You playfully shrugged and turned away from him.
“What? Please. You have to tell me. What were you thinking about?” Peter whined and shook your arm.
“Well, ever since Spiderman and I broke up, I’ve been pretty lonely.” You admitted.
“Oh no. That sounds awful.”
“It is.” You agreed. “But it made me think about giving you and me a try. You know, since you have a crush on me and all.”
“You and me?” Peter asked through a stunned smile. You took both his hands and brought him closer so you could privately.
“I never actually got to know what it was like to date the guy under the mask. And dating Spiderman might make me a target, but Peter Parker doesn’t have any enemies. At least, as far as I know.” You said quietly so no one could overhear.
“There is a 9 year old who wants to kill me for beating his high score on the Pac-Man at the arcade on 54th street.” Peter admitted.
“Well does he own a gun?” You rolled your eyes.
“He’s a 9 year old from Queens. Of course he has a gun.” Peter replied, making you laugh.
“My bad. But I think I can live with that threat over my head.”
“Are you sure?” Peter asked as he stared into your eyes. You stared back into his and smiled fondly.
“I’m sure. I’ve had a lot of time to think about this, Peter. I want to start over and be with you as you. No masks. No lies. Just you and me.”
Peter was so overcome with emotion that all he could think to do was lean in and kiss you. But before your lips could touch, you put your hand on his lips and pushed him back a little.
“Hold on. Before we get to that, I need you to promise me. No lying this time, okay? I need full honesty 100% of the time.”
“I saw a picture of your dad when I went to your parents apartment and I thought he was really handsome and I was gonna tell you that you looked like him but then I thought that might be a weird compliment and then I had a dream about him that night where we got married and when I lifted up your veil at the alter it was your dads head on your body but I kissed him anyway.” Peter said all in one breath. You were quiet for a while as you digested all of that and Peter held his breath until you spoke again.
“Okay.” You said finally. “Maybe we don’t have to be honest 100% of the time.”
“I missed you.” Peter smiled fondly and felt his tears come to his eyes.
“I missed you too.” You admitted before pulling him into a kiss. You wrapped your arms around Peters neck as he cupped your face to pull you as close as possible. You kissed for the first time without either of you having something to conceal your identity or block your eyesight. You were finally able to run your hands through his hair while knowing exactly what it looked like. You could feel his eyelashes brush against your face instead of feeling the edges of his mask. Peter wanted the kiss to last forever, but your friends had other plans.
“Ew. Gross.” MJ grimaced as she sat down. You and Peter pulled away when you heard her and saw the rest of your friends approaching the table. Peter was a blushing mess and you were looking down with an embarrassed smile.
“What’s all this then?” Ned asked and pointed between you and Peter.
“So you and Peter worked things out. What a nice happy ending to a weird little story.” Gwen smiled and leaned her chin on her hand.
“I know. Let’s never bring up the Spiderman era okay, again?” You told them. “Not my brightest moment.
“He wore a freaking ninja mask to tell you he loved you.” MJ cracked up at the memory as you rolled your eyes.
“Yeah. I don’t know why I felt I could say those words but not show you my face, which you had already seen a thousand times.” Peter added to the conversation.
“And I don’t know how I never recognized your voice.” You wondered. “Or smell. Or body language. Or eyes. Or mouth. I saw your mouth a lot both and Peter and as Spiderman. You even have the same mole on the side of your mouth. How did I never realize that?”
“Love is blind.” Kate shrugged. “Not as blind as our Y/n apparently.”
“It’s a plot hole. Don’t think too much about it. Just enjoy the happy ending.” You said and waved your hand in dismissal.
“I would I’ve been upset if this didn’t have a happy ending.” Kate admitted.
“I think a lot of people would’ve.” Ned agreed. “I’m just glad you finally came clean and everyone knows everything they need to know.”
“Me too.” Peter said as he wrapped an arm around you. You cupped his face and kissed his before leaning into him.
“In the spirit of the new terms of our old relationship, I have to say that I honestly love you, Peter. And that’s it’s honestly nice to say that to your actual face.”
“I like it too. And I honestly love you too.” He replied as he looked into your eyes.
“And I honestly can’t believe you followed a stranger to his car and were surprised he threw you inside.” MJ snorted.
“I honestly can’t believe that either. Or that he wanted you to get arrested for breaking the speed limit.” Gwen recalled. “Huh. What a weird semester.”
“Hopefully next one is better.” Peter said.
“And far less eventful.” Kate added. You looked around at all your friends and reflected on the crazy past few months before lifting your water bottle into the air.
“Here’s to us.” You stated. “And the weird things we talk about when we’re all sitting together.”
Everyone humored you by taking out their water bottles and raising them in the air. You all clinked your bottles together while cheering,
“To us.”

the blitz, part three
i don't usually post my thoughts on tv shows here; i tend to annoy my clueless friends with insanely long voice messages instead. but this time i thought why not so here we are.
Tumblr media
[forgive me for my poor english in advance]
let's talk about 1941. i strongly believe this year holds a very significant meaning for aziraphale and crowley's relationship. of course, we all know that, it's like saying the earth is round, but i'm curious as to what exactly had changed their relationship during that year.
if there is going to be a third part of the blitz sequence in season 3, somehow i can see aziraphale and crowley getting heavily drunk after the magic show and all the "shades of grey" talk. a continuation of their date night which has been theorised many times already, but i can't stop thinking about the possible outcomes and how it would explain aziraphale's "you go too fast for me, crowley" later on. sure, they could've met in the middle between 1941 and 1967, we don't know that for this time being, but if they haven't, then, no doubt, something truly pivotal happend in 1941. obviously, the bullet catch trick was quite a stressful experience for both crowley and aziraphale. not to mention the fact that they were almost exposed by furfur. it'd be foolish to think they weren't terrified and even traumatized after all that'd happened. so, perhaps, that's why aziraphale's so afraid to hang out (take a step forward in their relationship?) with crowley in 1967? he's being cautious and doesn't want to take another risk? or did something else happen during the blitz that we don't know yet?
so, 1941. here they are, drunk and a bit giddy. pouring more wine, talking gibberish. it has been a crazy day and alcohol is the greatest stress reliever they desperately need at the moment. then, at some point, they start to reminisce the events of the day.
1. church. explosion. the books. "that was very kind of you". heart eyes. realisation of love?
Tumblr media
aziraphale realised he was in love with crowley. that is one of the things that happened in 1941. and it's huge. and it shows! the way aziraphale looks at crowley, trusts him with his life, invites him in for a romantic candlelight dinner afterwards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so why wouldn't we see the angel in love in the hypothetical part three of the blitz? that'd be logical.
2. the bullet catch trick. miracles blocked. crowley almost shooting aziraphale in the head. possible trauma?
Tumblr media
for crowley (not to exclude aziraphale, of course, i doubt he was anticipating the moment the bullet would go through his head in case of failure), this whole magic show was torturous. it's in the way his hands are shaking when holding a gun. and, though funny, how he rapidly goes through the instructions in the book upon realising their miracles aren't working.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now we know why crowley despises aziraphale's "magician mode". god- satan- who knows what can happen if aziraphale tries to do magic again.
they don't address these things to each other, of course. because that's what they do: they never say what they're really thinking. but alcohol tends to loosen one's tongue. and, perhaps, that is another important thing that happens in 1941.
now, we know aziraphale had done the "i was wrong dance" several times throughout the history, including the year mentioned.
Tumblr media
maybe crowley asked him to do that as a form of an apology after the absolute hell the angel made him go through. and even though, it wasn't aziraphale's fault entirely (nobody could've guessed the furfur's ambush), crowley did almost blew his brains out. and it didn't feel great. moreover, considering that they constantly quarrel, they seem to save the dance for more serious fights, if i may say so.
and after all that happened on the west end stage, crowley deserves a proper apology.
so, he says "do the dance" and is met with drunken protestations, but eventually aziraphale does it. his head spins, his whole body wobbles after several bottles of wine, but he manages to pull off the dance except for the very last move.
Tumblr media
it doesn't look like a very steady position to me. not to mention, aziraphale is drunk and it makes it almost impossible for him to hold balance when standing at all. so when he trembles and trips, ready for his face to be smashed across the floor, crowley catches him and this is where "the big thing" happens (a bit cliché, i know).
now, some people believe they might've kissed before season 2 episode 6. i tend to disagree but i do believe in the almost-kiss. and i think something similar could happen in the blitz part 3 (in case we get it), if we remind ourselves that aziraphale had just realised he was in love with crowley.
even though the demon manages to save his angel (once again) from falling, he is just as drunk as aziraphale.
"you need to ssssober up, angel", crowley might say.
"so do you!" aziraphale might respond.
from what we've seen, crowley is not comfortable yet to take off his sunglasses in the bookshop in 1941. frankly, he never is until season 2.
but when he's drunk, he tosses them to the nearby sofa.
Tumblr media
they exchange a few phrases, aziraphale's still holding onto crowley's arms, they're both barely standing. after a while, the room goes quiet so aziraphale just stares. lovingly. at crowley's eyes. the demon notices.
"wot?" he might ask.
and then...
"your eyes are so pretty" aziraphale might blurt out.
[it sounds very cheesy, i know. if i could write a fanfiction, i would, but my self criticism won't let me.]
vavoom! this is where something shifts. something changes. i imagine aziraphale leaning in for a kiss and crowley's having a mix of confusion and unknown longing on his face. but, obviously, life is no fairy-tale. something interrupts them (i haven't made up my mind on what exactly) and it ruins the moment. and it's very distracting, since they sober up almost immediately. and, to me, aziraphale would suddenly come to realisation that if they get closer, if he acts on his feelings once again, then it'd be taking a huge risk of them being caught collaborating together. so he pushes crowley away. and this is how we come to "you go too fast for me, crowley".
[thank you for reading my midnight thoughts if you got this far!]

okay since roy wasn't in the locker room when the entire team clocked jamie as gay so I thought like what if roy knows he has a crush on jamie but thinks it's never gonna happen because he is 100% sure jamie is straight because he slept with so many women over the years oblivious about the fact that everyone clocks jamie as gay and then pining happens
no i don’t think you understand anon this is driving me INSANE. cuz obviously roy needed to be the one to go and talk to isaac since he’s the one who made him captain and they both have a tendency to let their anger build up etc. it was a really important moment.
but also interesting how they were the two people who, in that moment, we most wanted to be in the locker room.
obviously isaac, being colin’s best friend, who wasn’t there when he came out to the entire team.
and then roy, who, i am convinced if he was in the room jamie would have totally played up his reaction to the team clocking him as queer wayy more for roy. like, yjk he would have made direct eye contact with roy and back to the team with his hand to his heart like, “oh boys, i’m flattered…feels good to be seen.” and then done a subtle wink at roy or smth.
and can you imagine roy’s reaction to that?? he’d go all red and excuse himself to the boot room and after a couple minutes jamie’d come in n be like “hey?” and roy’d turn around furious and say “what the fuck was that?” and jamie, all tease would ask, “what was what?” and roy’d say, “you know what. just now. you winking at me and shit in front of everyone. it was fucking embarassing—” and jamie’d take a step forward, “why? you flirt with me in front of everyone all the time—” and roy’d scoff and say, “flirt? i don’t flirt with you, jamie. i’m your coach. that would be completely—” and jamie’d close the gap and cautiously bring his hands to roy’s shoulders, “roy, mate…calm down” and first roy would growl and then he’d take a breath, holding eye contact with jamie and exhale. jamie’d lower his hands and tuck them under his shirt like he does and take a small step back.
“i weren’t flirting…exactleh. i mean…unless you wanted it to be. i just…wanted you to know that i’m not straight either.” and roy’s expression would soften and he’d swallow his misdirected anger in exchange for nervous inquiry. “why?” and jamie’d look down at his shifting feet and shrug, “dunno. just thought you might wanna know.” then he’d look back up to meet roy’s eyes, searching them for some sort of signal as to how he felt about that answer…before remembering it was only half time. “uh, right then. i should probableh…” he’d point towards the door and pull roy back into reality with him. the pitch and the players and fans awaiting them outside. “right” would be all he could manage to get past his tongue. and jamie’d nod, “coach.” and pivot towards the door, his glance lingering for a moment past the shelves adjacent to roy. “william” he’d address the space before leaving roy standing there suddenly aware of the remaining presence.
“fuuuck.”
“i heard nothing” will promised, hands up in surrender. and roy growled just as a finger tapped at the window. he turned to see ted giving him a face as if asking, everything okay in there? and roy gave him a nod as if to answer, be out in a sec. but just as his hand was on door he heard a theatric throat clearing from behind. “fucks sake.” he turned to face the kitman.
“i know it’s absolutely none of my business—”
“this had better be the most fucking insightful shit i’ve ever heard in my fucking life kitman, or i swear to god you’ll have to to legally change your last name to i-couldn’t-keep-my-mouth-shut-when-professionally-appropriate-so-i-had-to-move-back-in-with-my-mum.”
will swallowed, eyes wide, and nodded. “um right then. okay, well…i think the worst thing you can do to yourself to is to…limit…or—” roy raised his eyebrows. “uh, confine ourselves to labels and boxes that we - or society - have put us in. i think it’s the most wonderful thing to see yourself opening up to new possibilities…to let go of binaries and stop restricting yourself - and others - from the fluidity of life’s experiences.” another, much more modest throat clear.
and roy would “hm” before leaving the boot room and taking his place on the pitch next to ted, opposite of beard. both turning their heads to roy, eyebrows raised, and roy giving a curt nod, which they mirrored before all three returning their attention to the game.
but roy’s head was not in the game. it wouldn’t be there tonight as he’d lie in bed trying to fall asleep. and it definitely wouldn’t be there tomorrow at 4am.
just so you all know…this was the writing i lost last night when my tumblr refreshed without wifi and apparently hadn’t saved any of it lol.
but luckily i am high rn and was able to remember almost word for word what i’d written so here you go.

wtf verified my email finally after 2 yeaurs turns out i been missing out on a lot of Interaction . any ways . CND posting at 5 am here’s my guy his name is Cacophony
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
no way in hell i can concisely summarize all his shit rn … unless
the basics : he’s a Yuanti Tiefling Monk, 7ft tall& 32yrs old rn. he was raised in Partirisvarati and as a child amidst a war he got tossed into a prison where he then had his hands cut off &eyes gouged out by brutes as punishment for getting caught attempting to steal a handful of seeds for his family’s farm . but don’t worry. he got better
hes blind , uses Tremorsense . knows Common & Bolidian (Partirisvarati native language. +because it’s funny, as this dialect is translated into Common, it gives him a cockney british accent). got acid blood & is venomous, but he’s too polite to use it for evil, until he isn’t . he is a goofy goober(walking murderweapon) but alas, is a creature of joy and whimsy at heart . he suffers w PunchDrunk syndrome& frequent tremors/seizures . wizardry antics grew his hands back and gave him an extra arm, thanks Dee . (hi Simon)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he spent ages 10-20in prison, 20-23on parole+ after escaping parole he met Krishika, Krissie for short, a Githyanki halfOwlin Warlock. bsf4lyfe. actualy, wrong, these two are insane . imagine if you would a psychological torment comparable to that of a paranoid mother hellbent on building a dynamic so codependent slash parasitic BOTH sides end up Killing & Dying for eachother(multiple times) each against yet fully within their own wills (i love contradictory!). Krissie… has issues and problems. her soul had been permanently shattered into three components, and due to some species complications , left her In-Between multiple states of being at once . Blah blah blah… autism to save for another day..All she wants is some god damn control in her life . enter sir scapegoat Cacophony, who’s only aspiration since gaining real freedom for the First Time In His Life , is to provide an unconditional support to any new friend he makes !! 😁😬.. Cacophony lets & encourages Krissie to use him as a vessel for possession, as at the beginning it’d benefited both of them, but overtime, Krissies state had worsened and too late she’d realized she had been taking advantage of Cacophony. Krissie is fueled fully on adrenaline and fear, and the moment she knew she done fucked up was a pivotal point for them both- a point of absolutely No return, Krissie decided Cacophony would be much safer in her grasp and at her command. She strikes a deal with a man named Soren Trouvaille to soulbind herself to Cacophony, turning them both functionally immortal , unless one kills the other half . glances around
….as a result of multiple decades worth of various forms of mental abuse Cacophonys biggest flaw remains to be how forgiving he is 🫶 or yk, better put, how willingly he will allow second chances to those he considers worth it. he’s done an awful lot of healing these last four years. i blame his lovely husband (Soren, Tabaxi/Orc Artificer/Cleric) and their weird daughter (Siobhan, Jackal Artificer)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
more of them soon, i love them very much . love heart xoxo . their family is so perfect icant wait to talk abt them . yes i mentioned a Soren Trouvaille earlier and yes this is him ooo drama
what more to share on Cacophony… i don’t know how to go in depth with personality and morals even tho i desperately want to lmfao . Cacophony is such a hypocrite, and he genuinely doesn’t mean to be . he will formulate an opinion on you based off of the Whys and How’s of the situation rather than the What. absolutely describe him as understanding as he tends to dig to the root of the cause for Anything and fully hear you out,but as a professional hypocrite he Will abandon this method of he doesn’t like you 💀. he’s an extreme optimist, or as i like to call it, Delusional ! people like to accuse him for putting up a front, but i swear he’s just insane . he would be dead in the fucking gutters if he wasn’t , truly . aint he a sweetheart , though . ok i’d love to add more . but i am dying. gootbye

Something I don't see anyone speak about (if you have and I just haven't seen it... I'm sorry :( ) is how Wylan not only reclaims his identity by the duology's conclusion, but he also reclaims Marya's. I feel like we as a fandom overlook just how much J*n put Marya through in an attempt to erase Wylan from the public memory: he had her declared insane as a grounds for divorce and institutionalised her, leaving her "abandoned along with her defective child" in order to "forever rid himself of any evidence that Wylan had existed". This transcended to J*n not allowing Wylan to grieve his mother's 'death' because, as he put it, "it didn’t pay to dwell on the past" - and Wylan tells Jesper that J*n never brought Marya up after breaking the news of her finality to his son, confessing "we just stopped talking about her".
What we also need to remember is that the Van Eck mansion "had belonged to Wylan’s mother’s family for generations before Van Eck had ever set foot through the door". (Edit: I didn't mean to write that the mansion belonged to the Hendriks - it was part of the property under the Van Eck name. Sorry about that!) Just like how J*n separated Wylan from his mother, he simultaneously took so much from Marya - first her home, then her name, her fortune, her own child. This is why Marya was admitted as Marya Hendriks, not Marya Van Eck: this is J*n quite literally stripping her of her name to permanently erase her from the public memory. The nurse addresses Marya as "Miss Hendriks", to which Marya mutters "Van Eck" in response, because "she was not Marya Hendriks, she was Marya Van Eck, a wife and mother stripped of her name and her fortune." So why is it that Wylan says, "I am Marya Hendriks' son" if Marya Hendriks is the woman who's left after Marya Van Eck had her name and her life taken away from her? Because this is Wylan reclaiming his mother's identity.
If we examine the moment Wylan visits his mother at Saint Hilde, Marya's first words to him are "did you come for my money? I don’t have any money" to which Wylan replies that he doesn't have any money either. The money neither of them have comes to signify the lack of autonomy they have over their identities, which have spent so long confined by J*n's contempt as he gradually works towards making them vanish entirely. J*n tried desperately to erase Marya's memory as a means of gradually erasing Wylan's - however, Wylan is the only one who keeps his mother's memory alive, just like how Marya keeps her son's alive. Upon arriving in the Barrel, Wylan detaches himself from his father's name and, instead, uses his mother's maiden name. Yes, he's doing it to not draw attention to himself (because what would the child of one of the richest men in Ketterdam be doing in a place like the Barrel?), but he's also preserving Marya's memory, clinging to it like a lifeline without even realising it. In a way, it's saving him.
Before I go on any further, I'm taking a brief detour to discuss the transition in Wylan's motivations upon discovering what really happened to his mother (it's relevant, I promise). Wylan completely breaking down when he realises that his father is indeed evil is such a pivotal moment that marks a major transition in his motivations. Jesper comforts Wylan during his breakdown, assuring him that "Kaz is going to tear your father’s damn life apart" - a sentiment that "felt like cool water cascading over the hot, shameful feeling of helplessness he’d [Wylan] been carrying with him for so long". His continued contribution to the Dregs’ mission is no longer about making the money to “get out of town and never speak the name Van Eck again” - now, he's "here for her". Now, it's about punishing his father, saving Marya and returning all J*n took from her: “what am I doing here? But he knew the answer. Only he could see his father punished for what he’d done. Only he could see his mother free.” He realises that J*n's life falling apart means that, with his money, "he could take his mother from this place. They could go somewhere warm. He could put her in front of a piano, get her to play, take her somewhere full of bright colors and beautiful sounds. They could go to Novyi Zem. They could go anywhere." He could save her, liberate her from the confines of J*n's contempt - and only he can do it, because who else would?
Meanwhile, Marya clings to the memories of her child even though J*n took him away from her. While institutionalised, Marya would paint - and in her paintings, "repeated again and again, was the face of a little boy with ruddy curls and bright blue eyes". We know that J*n wanted Wylan to disappear "the way he’d made Wylan’s mother disappear" - what we don't know, however, is what J*n told Marya during the time she was institutionalised. Did he visit her after sending Wylan away, supposedly to study music in Belendt, to tell her that Wylan is dead? Did he ever visit her before then and tell her that her son is dead to expunge his memory from Marya? We can only speculate - but what we do know is that, regardless of whether or not she thinks he's dead, Marya is grieving the loss of her child.
Something that Wylan fears if the Dregs’ mission is unsuccessful is that he’s “going to die and there will be no one to help her. No one to even remember Marya Hendriks” - and the same could be said about Marya’s feelings of responsibility for preserving the spirit of her child. Amidst her grief is the strive to save him and his memory, because she’s really the only one who’s willing to remember him. At the asylum, her paintings are thrown out “every six months” because “there just isn’t enough space for them” - but that doesn’t stop her from continuing to paint the face of her child and, thus, remembering him, making sure he doesn't disappear. Wylan confesses to Jesper that his parents “fought all the time, sometimes about me”, revealing how Marya has always fought for Wylan - and her being institutionalised, having her paintings thrown out every so often, won’t put an end to her fighting for him. She's hellbent on ensuring he doesn't vanish, because there’s no one else who would. (Think of this in relation to the meaning behind “no mourners, no funerals” - if Wylan disappeared, “no one would come looking”, as is the case with the rest of the Crows.)
Now, let's examine how, by the end of the duology, Wylan not only liberates himself from the pain caused by his father's wrongdoings, but also saves his mother. He'd "chosen to use a portion of his newfound wealth to restore his home", exemplifying how inheriting his father's fortune represents him reclaiming his identity from the pain and abuse J*n's contempt inflicted upon him. However, I mentioned earlier that the Van Eck mansion didn't actually belong to the Van Ecks in the first place - it belonged to the Hendriks. (Edit: again, not the mansion, but part of the property under the Van Eck name.) Thus, Wylan's position by the end of Crooked Kingdom also comes to represent him reclaiming his mother's identity as he returns everything J*n took from her. By "restor[ing] his home", he's also restoring Marya's.

Round 3 Match 3
Tumblr media
propaganda below the cut! (wall of text warning)
Björk:
"sooo pretty"
"Björk looks like her music sounds. Out of this world and beautiful"
"she's like the chipmunk who visits my window"
"She is mjother. She has the range, the versatility to serve any and every kind of beautiful you could ever want. She went from cute art pop girly to icy electronic queen in the span of a few years. She served cunt while dealing with the fallout of divorce. And then immediately pivoted to ethereality and fairies. An icon. Oh also, all of Vespertine exists. Need I say more?"
"She IS grateful grapefruit. No one is doing it like Björk she's so one of a kind and insane and very beautiful and everyone should vote for her. A vote for Björk is a vote for Icelandics everywhere!!!!!!!"
"Björk's voice had such a beautiful clarity and delicate chastity that has infused some of the loveliest songs to ever be written. She is an angel that came down from the Heavens to bless us all with her talent, her mind and her grace. Vespertine, with the most elegantly crafted songs of Pagan Poetry, Cocoon, It's Not Up To You and every other majestic opus on the album stands as the most mystical, tragic, and sensual exploration of love and the core of us that makes us human, our souls. And my second favourite album only to In Rainbows. And all her other albums are great too. Just Google I Love To Love by Björk which is a cover but still shows you that she was the most talented sweetheart ever, even at 6 years old. She is my fire, the one desire. I quoted Backstreet Boys, that should tell you how dedicated I am to this cause. If that still doesn't persuade you however, I'll have you know that Justine Frischmann burned my house to the ground, frequently urinates on my lawn, abducted my mom, pushed my grandmother down a flight of stairs on her trip to Manchester and chopped my dad's "you know what" off to use as a heirloom for her house. She is a nasty and crazy woman. Vote Björk, our Icelandic queen."
"bjork is sexy in a mind-expanding way. she would [redacted] and then teach u how to build a computer. my partner says she makes music for autistic people to have sex to. also history ot touches ??????? hello????"
"Have you seen the swan dress? She's an icon and she is the moment"
"swan dress. need i say more"
(the dress in question)
Tumblr media
Dave Grohl:
"Dave grohl. Where do I begin? THIS MAN IS GOD. I WANT HIM TO STRANGLE ME WITH THOSE GIANT TATTOOED ARMS AND STEP ON MY SPINE. I'M NOT KIDDING"
"multiple things to do to/with dave grohl (all affectionately) : 1.) shrink him, hold him in my hands and study him 2.) put him in a washing machine and watch him spin 3.) talk to him for hours on end 4.) wash his hair 5.) ask him about his hair routine 6.) give him a little forehead kiss 7.) bbq with him"
"HOW could anyone NOT pick 90s Dave? He was SOOO beautiful 😫😫 Especially in Nirvana, come ON"
"I mean- just look at the man. If I ever saw him in real life I think I'd unexplainably combust on the spot. I'd sell my grandfather at a garage sale for him."

most recent story development in my brain: ive decided to actually seperate taffy and coco during the timeskip
initially i had it that taffy sticks with coco because he has nowhere to go and they eventually get together over the timeskip. the new version is that he runs away and disappears right before mochi leaves
in my head i see him as the type to run away after what mochi and coco do for him-- after coco put in so much effort and time advocating for him because she saw that there were traces of a good person under his antagonistic nature, and after mochi beat his ass for the final time and finally cleared his curse, he doesnt know what to do with himself.
the rest of the guild at that point (mochi included) has an attitude of "We know why you were the way you were. Now that there's no reason for you to hate us, you're free to go where you want. You can even stay with us." and this sentiment eats him alive. the guilt he feels is insane. the fact that he spent months (years?) trying to ruin mochi, brewing in bitterness and rage and all of a sudden all of that is gone and replaced with forgiveness and warmth is unbearable and he cant stand it, so he leaves.
this is all coupled with his feelings for coco and the attitude on his end of "I don't deserve this. I don't deserve her. All I can do is bring them down. All I can do is bring her down. I have no right to stay here. I have no right to want to stay here."
so theres a pivotal scene in my head where he has all these thoughts, standing right outside the side door to mochis house hearing them all chattering inside, and has a long moment of hesitation before going inside. in the OLD version coco opens the door before he can make up his mind and forces him inside with the rest of them, but in the NEW version i think its much more taffy-like if hes gone by the time she notices and gets to the door
(tldr timeline: mochi removes his curse -> he disappears -> he only appears for the last amanita fight because really thats HIS fight as much as it is mochis -> he leaves again RIGHT after. i imagine coco tried to stop him or say goodbye but this man is notoriously good at escaping quickly)
and so timeskip-wise coco attends university on her own. she keeps in touch with oscar and lime (more oscar than lime) and while she never directly set out to look for taffy, there was always that desire to look for him in a crowd or something, maybe hoping to run into him at random or that he would show up out of nowhere like he did the first time.
I'm not totally sure what he does during the timeskip then. something far away from coco and the guild, but somewhere close to the ocean because he could never find it in him to stray too far from it for too long. maybe lost his touch with water magic a bit because he was too afraid and guilt-ridden to use it. never really stopped thinking about coco but couldnt muster up the courage to go find her again. for YEARS hes convinced that she doesnt want to see him and he wouldnt do anything to make her life better. hes done too much to all of them for them to ever accept him, he thinks.
until one day coco just. shows up. after tracking him down (with mochi and sulluvans help). sitting on a barrel at the docks he works at in some city somewhere, eating some cotton candy she bought at the docks like "Heyo! Mochi needs another guild member, and you kinda owe us one, soooo..."

you mentioned you love june and i'm curious how you feel about the other women in elvis' life? do you like priscilla and the relationship she had with him? and anita? linda? sheila? ginger?
Hello, dearest Nonnie! What a question! I think it's safe to give a huge disclaimer here that I am jealous of any woman who was loved by Elvis (lol), but for some reason, inexplicable or not, I find some of them delightful while others just rub me the wrong way. I will also say I can only imagine how insanely complicated, wonderful, and frustrating a relationship with that man could be and that all these women probably just did their best in the moment. My personal opinion is just that and is mainly based on my own ✨vibes.✨
And yes, it's no secret June is my favorite! I love her tenacity and spunk, how she didn't take a lot of shit, and while it breaks my heart, I respect the hell outta her for sticking to her values and letting him go when Elvis was being a dick and ignored her for months. Her book is beautifully written and such a great glimpse into a pivotal time in his life.
I also really like Kathy Westmoreland. I think spiritually and musically they connected on a wonderful level, and even though their affair didn't last super long, she was in his life longer than most women as a friend/colleague, and there is something telling and lovely about that. She was loyal to him until the very end and long after.
Shelia seems lovely and gave us some of the juiciest tidbits about him, and I'll always love her for that! 🤭 Their relationship was interesting, especially concerning how he seemed to play her against Linda and she didn't really give a care. I get the impression she just went with the flow, they enjoyed each other's company, and she knew it wasn't going to be long term. I like her.
Now the others...now keep in mind this is just my personal opinion, and I know others feel differently and that is totally fine! I'm not looking to war with anyone LOL.
Linda drives me bonkers as a person. Maybe it's the whole "beauty queen" mentality or her attitude on social media, but the woman is just not for me. Reading her book did give me more insight, and I really do think she and Elvis loved each other and that she was there for him during some really difficult times. But I just don't like her and hate how she seems to capitalize on her relationship with him to this day in a very "me me me!" manner. She's my least fave of them all.
In a similar matter, I find his relationship with Priscilla very complicated and her relationship to his legacy even more so. I don't fall staunchly into either the "hate" or "love" camps for her, but do take everything she says or does related to him with a grain of salt because she seems to drift back and forth in her stories in a way that suits her in the moment. I don't love how she constantly seems to ride the coattails of his legacy. I hate that she was so young when they met and how he seemed to be okay with that (but that's another discussion entirely), and I think her youth plays a huge role in why the relationship played out the way it did. While I think they had love for each other, I feel like that love was based on idealized images of the other and what they wanted them to be vs. who they really were. I'm sure I could wax on and on about them but I'm not going to do that here. I don't love her, and I don't hate her totally, either. But I one hundred percent don't buy the weird Camelot-esque picture Graceland, EPE, and she tries to sell about their relationship a lot of the time.
Now Ginger...poor Ginger gets a bad rap and don't think she deserves it in the least. There is no scenario in my mind where I think she could've "saved" him and I don't feel she was negligent or conspiratorial in any way. However, I do think she was young and in way over her head. She wanted to maintain some semblance of her normal life and Elvis was just not having that, and it caused some major dissonance. He was very much not in a good space and she got swept up in the madness. The stuff with her parents and the money is a bit suspicious, but I don't necessarily think that was on Ginger. I think she loved him (though maybe not quite the way he loved her?) and I absolutely feel devastated for her that she was the one who found him. Talk about traumatic. I also respect the hell out of her for waiting until her children were grown to write her book and that she is a defender of him and Lisa to this day.
I don't know a ton about Anita (I haven't read her book yet), but the vibe of them together just feels weird to me. I feel like he really led her on and get the impression he had a sort of idealized version of this "pretty little Southern Belle wife" that his mama approved of and then mama died and he went into the army and he clung to that image like crazy. Not to say they didn't love each other! But the chemistry doesn't quite hit for me and I think it got pretty toxic. (And I've listened to that recorded call between them too many times and her voice annoys me LOL.) But she put up with a LOT of shit (I mean they all did, tbh...). I'm a bit amazed she stuck it out as long as she did.
Of course, there are so many other women who were in his life and it would be a novel to talk about them all! One thing I always try to remind myself is all of them seemed to really love him and he cared about them, too, and no one can take that away from them. So even if I don't personally like some of them, they were still a fixture in his life and it matters. My opinion, in the scheme of things, means nothing! I also don't love ragging on women, especially when at the end of the day, I know nothing about what truly went on between those two people in their relationship. And god knows that man could be difficult, so I try not to fault any of them for his sometimes very shitty behavior.
