And you know the ones I mean:

Shido, we can see right up your nose. But let's talk about the text on these. First, the really big bit on the left:

獅童正義 shidou masayoshi

Look at the kanji there. His given name is twice the size of his family name. Plus, his given name doesn't have the furigana (tiny text to tell you how to read it) that you can see against his family name—despite it being easily misread as a common noun.

Because, as eny fule kno, Shido's given name is spelled the same way as 正義 seigi, meaning "justice". This will be important later. The game lampshades this, by the way, in gossip chats around the election:

"Shido-san really lives up to what his name means. He's like justice personified." Okay, gossiping person, you do you.

At the bottom, in tinytext next to his spooky Illuminati-esque Whole World In His Hands logo that isn't megalomaniacal at all, we have the name of his new splinter party:

未来連合 mirai rengou United Future

未来 mirai means future; 連合 rengou means a bloc, a coalition, an alliance or union. 連合ヨーロッパ rengou yooroppa, "a federal Europe"; 連合国 rengoukoku, "the Allied powers". So we get "United Future", perhaps less catchily "The Alliance for the Future", which is very much the sort of name new Japanese political parties tend to have.

This is Shadow Shido's slogan. This sums up his mission, his motive, the whole reason he wants power. And what does it say?

私のために、民衆は尽くす watashi no tame ni, minshuu wa tsukusu The people will serve me.

What a nice thing to say! What an excellent sentiment, befitting of a public servant in a democracy! And what an unashamed piece of shit, eh? You can see why Japan is underwater in his head.

Constructions of the form X no tame ni tsukusu are quite common; my dictionary lists several. So this little phrase is a play on words in at least two ways:

First of all, it's an adaptation of a well-known phrase, 民衆のために尽くす minshuu no tame ni tsukusu, "to serve the people". Shido has taken this and inverted it: the people will serve him.

But second—remember how Shido's given name, Masayoshi, is written the same way as seigi, meaning "justice"? One of those common little example phrases in my dictionary, under tsukusu, is the following:

正義のために尽くす seigi no tame ni tsukusu to work for justice

This is why his given name is in massive letters on the poster: because this play on words is deliberate on his part: Shido is justice, as his name should tell you; he defines what is good and right and true—and what's good and right and true is what is in his interests. And so the people will serve him. The same way they'd serve the nation, or society, or the public good.

It's a really interesting line. And, of course, it calls to mind Akechi—supposedly a detective, in the service of justice, and yet in reality....

BTW, don't forget this is Shido's Shadow talking. How much does Shido himself, the guy walking about upstairs, delude himself about all this? That's an exercise for the reader.

Idk if you've talked about it before, but have you seen the voice lines for Crowley's card? At the end people were saying he implies HE'S the one who brought the MC to Twisted Wonderland👀

I am not sure that that is how I would interpret his line!

The original Japanese is 「貴方みたいな勤勉で優秀な生徒がいてくれて助かっています。これからも問題児を“監督”してくださいね」

The form of the verb "help" makes this difficult to put into English...literally translated it may be something close to, "It's proving helpful to have diligent, excellent students like you available. Please do continue to ‘supervise’ the troublemakers."?

A vaguer translation might be "It helps to have diligent, excellent students like you," and I can see how that could be interpreted into the implication that he arranged for students like the prefect to be on hand for assistance.

But given the form of "help," I don't think there is that much depth to read into! :> There is nothing to insinuate that he is glad he brought the prefect here, or that he was involved in their being here at all.

Of course there is a lot that is still unknown about Crowley, and the theory that he intentionally brought the prefect over to make something happen (or to keep something from happening 👀) is a popular one (and very fun to think about!).

But if I were attempting to champion that theory, I personally would not use this particular line as proof! It could, of course, be setting a foundation so that a future reveal does not blindside the players 👀 But the line by itself is vague, which is probably by design!

And there were two more Crowley lines that I found interesting!

「私の全力を知りたい？随分と怖いもの知らずですねえ……学園長として心配になってしまいます」

"You want to know my full power? You are quite audacious…as headmage, it is worrying."

Crowley is not the first character to comment on the audaciousness/fearlessness of the prefect: Malleus has a very similar line but their phrasing is different, with Crowley saying 怖いもの知らず, while Malleus says 恐れを知らない. Malleus repeats this same phrasing at least twice in the original game, though it it written in two different ways on EN.

Both Crowley and Malleus' phrasings are two ways of saying something that could be localized as the same thing in English, but subtle turns of phrase are proving to be very important in the original game.

For example, when you set Crowley to the homescreen he will say, "私をお呼びですか？"

And this is an interesting parallel to Malleus', "僕を呼んだ?"

Malleus’ phrase tends to be rewritten as various different expressions on EN such as “You called?,” “Was it you who called me?” and “Did you need something?”

But in the original game he always uses the exact same phrase, which is different from Crowley’s “私をお呼びですか？” while meaning the same thing.

While it would normally not be an issue for a localizer to take something that seems repetitive in one language and give it more flair in the other, it seems that this repetition was intentional and maybe should have been kept consistent to the original game?

Especially because English does not have things like different words for "I" like Japanese does (Crowley uses "watashi" while Malleus uses "boku") to help tell one person's phrasing apart from another's.

EN experienced a similarly unfortunate problem with Idia’s, “Leave it to your big bro,” with the phrase getting rewritten into "I'll get you trilling like a canary" and "I got this!" on EN, presumably before Aniplex USA realized that it was being repeated word-for-word for a reason.

Is it possible that the information that Aniplex USA receives in advance is limited, so they just do not know which of these phrases are safe to change and which need to be kept accurate to the original game?

With all the variations to Malleus' "You called for me?" on EN, Crowley has the potential to be localized with a phrase that is identical to at least one of Malleus' multiple English-language interpretations. In the original game, however, Malleus' phrasing is consistent, and completely different from the phrasing used by Crowley, while meaning the same thing! (and the "same but different" pattern has the potential to be very significant 👀)

I have a lot of thoughts about the way characters refer to themselves and others and I do plan to talk about more of them at some point, but right now I wanna talk about Citron and Homare and how they both use watashi in katakana (ワタシ) to refer to themselves. It says a lot about both of their characters and I find it super interesting, especially with the reasons both of them have, and where those reasons are the same and where they differ.

Most people who play gacha games probably already know about the different first-person pronouns that exist in Japanese, but I'm gonna talk a little about it anyway just in case. Watashi (私) is the most commonly used first-person pronoun in Japanese overall, being polite, formal enough for work situations, and gender-neutral. For the most part, people will use watashi to refer to themselves at work or in other formal situations regardless of their gender, while in casual situations it's used by women. Instead, in said casual situations, men tend to use boku (僕) or ore (俺) depending on the situation and who they're with; watashi would sound too stiff, for the most part.

That's part of why I find it interesting that characters like Citron and Homare both use it in casual speech. It's obviously not unheard of, but it does tell us things about who they are. They're the only two MANKAI actors to use watashi at all, which already stands out, and then even more so because of how it's written in katakana for both of them. Both of them have layers to their usage of it, with the obvious reason on the surface, and then deeper reasons underneath. The obvious reason is its politeness - Citron and Homare both have very good reasons for using watashi. They're both public figures to differing extents. Citron is the prince of Zafra, and Homare is a published poet with a good number of fans (who also comes from a wealthy family). It only makes sense for both of them to speak formally, and this extends to everything in their speech patterns.

Going beyond that, though, the reasons that they use it in katakana are particularly intriguing to me. In Citron's case, it ties in to another reason he has for using watashi at all: his initial ruse of being a foreign exchange student and his ongoing charade as the silly foreigner without a strong grasp of the Japanese language. As the "default" pronoun that's acceptable in most (if not all) situations, many Japanese textbooks will only teach you to use watashi, so it'd make sense for him as a foreigner to use it exclusively. It creates the impression that he isn't super familiar or experienced with the language, and probably isn't confident enough in his skill (or ability to fit in) to use any other first-person pronouns. He also speaks with a strong foreign accent and "messes up" his words often, and several of his words are written in katakana to reflect this. Katakana is most commonly used when writing non-Japanese words, but it also applies to Japanese words spoken in a way that doesn't sound Japanese (and other cases, but I'll get to some of those eventually). This is why his first-person watashi also gets written in katakana: to keep up the image of him being a foreigner with an accent, and nothing more than that.

Citron's reasons for using watashi in katakana are mostly external, tied to other people's perception of him. Homare, on the other hand, mainly has internal motivation to do the same. He does also use watashi because of his family background and social status (including as a writer), but the reason it's in katakana for him is partially to highlight his eccentricity; how strange and unique he is in personality and speech. Katakana can also indicate loudness in some cases, after all. On top of that though, I believe there's another reason he has to use it this way. In written media, robot characters often speak entirely in katakana to show their stiff and inhuman way of speaking. Since Homare feels alienated from others, comparing himself to and seeing himself as a broken cyborg, it's perfectly fitting that he uses watashi in katakana to reflect that. He's robotic, not quite human, just a little too different from others. This is just my interpretation, but since he otherwise speaks just like anyone else, with everything in kanji and hiragana as it should be, it creates the impression to me that it's solely his "self" that is robotic.

I think it's fascinating how it's specifically these two who ended up being users of ワタシ, as the two who are known for playing with language in different ways, and especially in comparing their reasons for doing so. On the surface, it seems the same: polite, but eccentric. Digging deeper, though, you can learn a lot about their characters from something as seemingly trivial as this, and that's a huge reason I find things like it so interesting. One wants to maintain an image of himself in others' eyes, the other has a solid image of himself that he cannot shake. While both are othered by society, one further alienates himself on purpose, and the other has simply internalized it.

Qualified Servant Classes

Saber

Obviously, Saber is Yasuke’s most natural and preferred class. “What kind of samurai doesn’t know how to use a sword?” In this form, she wields a sword gifted to her by Nobunaga.

Archer

Considering what Yasuke is known for, having her be eligible for the Archer class is quite surprising to many. As Nobunaga’s weapon-bearer and an expert warrior, she has had the opportunity to learn how to use many different weapons. Nobunaga even gave her some of her guns at one point as a gift “As much as I appreciate the sentiment even I have to admit that giving someone like me guns is… an interesting choice for a present to say the least. Although, they ended up coming in handy, so at the time I just didn’t understand the full picture.” As an Archer she dual-wields two of Nobunaga’s guns as Anti-Divine and Anti-Mystery Anti-Unit Noble Phantasms that deal extra damage to servants with higher divinity and/or mystery. However, she is unable to make them levitate or summon a near endless amount in the same way Nobunaga can. She also wields a special mechanized bow that fires flaming arrows.

Lancer

“Being both a weapon-bearer and a handpicked warrior can come with perks every once in a while.” Turns out a spear was also gifted to Yasuke as a weapon at some point. It resembles a spine in appearance and can both bend and extend in length.

Assassin

“I’ve mastered many different styles and seen many forms of combat.” She considers Assassin to be an awkward class to be summoned in. As an Assassin, she mainly relies on her martial arts skill.

Berserker

Interestingly, as a Berserker Yasuke, despite using a sword, favors hand-to-hand combat. Her fighting style is that of many different forms of martial arts and she uses various wrestling techniques at any given opportunity. Her fighting style consists of using her sword to get close to or disarm an opponent before fighting them in hand-to-hand combat. Once she has beaten them she will usually try to finish them with the sword or go for another round.

Many of her moves are famous wrestling moves and she gladly takes the role of a heel. “If I serve a demon then I must be a heel.” Despite the Madness Enhancement, she can be pacified by turning on a wrestling or martial arts program, but this only works if there are no foes left to fight.

Shielder

At one point Yasuke learned how to use a shield in order to be the best bodyguard she could be. Although, it is definitely not the weapon she is most competent with and she is restricted to protecting one or two people at any given time. She considers it unwieldy

Avenger

As an Avenger she manifests as a time in her life in which she was a ronin or a wandering masterless samurai. She wandered not only Japan but also the world.

Gunner

“Well, of course, I can be a gunner if I wield some of Lord Nobu’s guns.” In this form, she can actually make the matchlock rifles she has float in a similar manner to that of Nobunaga. However, she still has way fewer guns being limited to ten. Her matchlock pistol also becomes a weak Noble Phantasm.

She has been described by many as incredibly strong, as strong as ten men even, so it is only natural that she has a high strength stat.

“I must be able to keep vigilant for as long as possible.”

Class Skills

Magic Resistance: B

Cancels spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals, it is difficult for them to be affected. She has apparently fought a few mages on a couple of occasions. However, it was nothing too powerful, at least according to her. She is capable of blocking spells that are A-rank and below with her katana Noble Phantasm if they have a small enough radius. It does not completely protect her from any explosions or similar sorts of aftershocks that result from the spell, however. This aspect of her Katana pairs well with her defensive fighting style.

Riding: C

At C Rank it allows her to manage beasts and vehicles if she has received the proper training and adjustments. Most vehicles and animals can be handled with above-average skills. However, she cannot ride the likes of Phantasmal Species such as Monstrous Beasts. Due to the fact that she does not have an anecdote of riding anything special or worth mentioning, she receives a lower rank in this Skill for a Saber. She is a quick learner though.

Personal Skills

Guardian Knight: C

A rare skill that grants the Servant a temporary attribute bonus if acting in the defense of others. In Yasuke’s case, it grants her a boost in her defense and reaction speed when protecting someone she has tasked herself with defending. “A bodyguard’s greatest threat is an impeccable defense?”

Presence Detection: E-

A somewhat unusual skill for someone like Yasuke to have. At such a low rank it only allows her to detect when a servant is attacking her or someone nearby and when a magic spell is targeting her or someone nearby. Although, it does not tell her where the assault is coming from, forcing her to rely on her other abilities to avoid such an attack. It also nullifies any Presence Concealment that is of equal rank or lower. In some sense, it can be considered a form of insurance against mages and assassins. Its rank is higher when she is summoned as a Shielder.

“When you’re a bodyguard you have to be ready for all kinds of sneak attacks.”

Reduced Earth: E+

“I’ve picked up a few martial arts tricks.”

It is a technique that cuts down the distance between opponents instantly. However, at such a low rank it only allows her to move a “few extra steps” or meters. So she mainly uses it to throw opponents off during battles or to essentially “jump” short distances. It’s effectiveness seems to increase when she is moving in to protect someone or something.

This skill would be a much higher rank if she was summoned as an Assassin.

Protection from Arrows: D

A skill that grants an increased defense against ranged attacks by predicting the projectiles’ trajectories through exceptional means. In Yasuke’s case, it allows her to dodge slow moving projectiles and helps lessen damage she would take from projectiles she can’t avoid by either catching them or ensuring they don’t hit any of her vital organs. Apparently, this skill is one of the tricks she picked up on her travels.

Mind's Eye (True): C++

A skill that allows for a calm analysis of battle conditions even when in danger and deduces an appropriate course of action after considering most possibilities of how to escape from a predicament. In Yasuke’s case, it is leagues more effective when dealing with a sword-based attack or opponent and it’s somewhat more effective when dealing with someone utilizing hand-to-hand combat. It also becomes more effective when she is considering how to protect someone or something.

Charisma: C++

A skill that increases the ability of allies during group battle. In Yasuke’s case, it is at C++ Rank because of the status Nobunaga granted her and the apparent popularity she had. It is at its strongest when concerning defensive formations and stances. It also seems to gain strength if she is the center of attention.

Noble Phantasms

Hasebe II: The Powerful Cutter- D- - A(Anti-Unit and Anti-Unit(Self)), Maximum Number of targets 1

A short katana that was gifted to her by Nobunaga. It was a sword that was eventually used as a ceremonial one before being given to Yasuke. She ended up naming it after Nobunaga’s sword after being unable to come up with a completely original name after thinking about it for a good week. To this day she still spends time trying to come up with cool sword names and will run them by her Master on such occasions.

An unmentioned fact is that it is actually a demonic sword, albeit one that is normally very weak. It is also symbolic of Yasuke’s status as Nobunaga’s weapon-bearer, bodyguard, and retainer. Thus it boosts Yasuke’s Strength, Endurance, and Agility stats along with her Eye of the Mind(True) by one rank at the cost of decreasing her luck by one rank when using the sword to defend someone. If she kills someone with this weapon it becomes more powerful for a period of about 24 hours by temporarily harvesting the soul of the one she has killed. During this time the Noble Phantasm becomes one rank stronger at the cost of lowering Yasuke’s luck stat for the duration of this period. It also causes the blade to become bigger. Which can make it awkward to move in enclosed spaces. It maxes out at A-rank(requiring four souls to reach that level). However, this factor of the sword rarely reaches its full potential in battle since Yasuke doesn’t like to go around killing random or innocent people just to make it stronger. It can still give her some sort of advantage when fighting one opponent after another. Due to being a ceremonial sword, its rank has a somewhat low starting point.

By releasing the sword’s true name it becomes a full-length Katana with a blade made of a red “beam” energy. While in this form the gemstones on the sword and its scabbard glow. It has a special ability that allows Yasuke to actually withhold any damage the sword might deal in this form until later. This means that Yasuke can strike an opponent and then wait until the time is right before choosing to have the wound take effect. When someone is struck by this sword without being damaged any cuts or stabs that would normally appear manifest as seemingly harmless glowing marks instead. Also, the sword’s True Name cannot be unleashed on Nobunaga herself. If she were to attempt to hurt Nobunaga with the blade it would simply pass right through her(not that she would even dream of doing such a thing anyway).

Nyuyoku Buredo: Wash away Their Facade- C+(Anti-Unit), Maximum Number of Targets- 1

This Noble Phantasm can be described as the recreation of a very famous moment. It is a Noble Phantasm that is tied to Yasuke herself and thus it can be used with any blade or sufficiently sharp object she is wielding, no matter the quality. Although, it is more effective if the blade is well built.

When the true name is released it covers the blade in a vortex of water that acts like a high-pressure water cutter. It boosts the sharpness and effectiveness of the blade to that of a Noble Phantasm if it is not one already.

However, its true purpose is that when an enemy has their actual body physically struck by the blade they will be forced to reveal their True Name, Parameters, skills and Noble Phantasms, and Yasuke will immediately be made aware of all these things even if she is in a situation where she can’t hear them for whatever reason.

This Noble Phantasm can be used to make it seem like her Wakizashi is a Noble Phantasm unless the enemy is paying close attention.

“With this water, I will wash away anything that covers your true self. Nyuyoku Buredo: Wash away Their Facade!!!”

The Head of Nobunaga: The Battle has Yet to End- E-Ex(Anti-Unit(Self)), Maximum Number of Targets- 1(Self)

Before Nobunaga died she entrusted Yasuke and Ranmaru with taking her head and delivering it to her son, in order to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Yasuke considered it the ultimate form of trust and believed she would not fail as long as Nobunaga was with her. This Noble Phantasm is a manifestation of that.

Luckily it manifests as a red crystalline skull, as opposed to a literal head because according to Yasuke “That would be too creepy, even for me.” It resembles a demonic skull, and when active its eye sockets are filled with an illusionary blue fire while allowing Yasuke to gain one of Nobunaga’s Personal Skills as long as this Noble Phantasm is active. She can use this to catch an opponent off guard or temporarily gain new abilities.

By releasing this Noble Phantasm’s true name she can summon any of Nobunaga’s weapons, be they Noble Phantasms or not. However, she is limited to only being able to summon one weapon at a time and she cannot do things like make guns float. So her use of these Noble Phantasms tends to be much more limited in scope.

This Noble Phantasm’s final ability allows Yasuke to recreate the act of safely delivering her friend’s head with Ranmaru by sacrificing the Noble Phantasm. By doing this Yasuke can recreate any one of Nobunaga’s Noble Phantasms in their entirety, with potentially floating guns and all. However, this can only be done once since the sacrifice of the Noble Phantasm is a must. This Noble Phantasm is not restricted to just the abilities, weapons, and Noble Phantasms of Archer class Nobunaga, rather it can utilize these things from any class that Nobunaga would be eligible for under normal circumstances.

Whenever the skull is used it will announce the name of the ability, weapon, or Noble Phantasm Yasuke is drawing upon with Nobunaga’s voice

Oddly, this Noble Phantasm will not manifest if Nobunaga is currently summoned or “alive” in any way. So if both Yasuke and Nobunaga were to be summoned into the same Holy Grail War, or if Yasuke was summoned in an era where Nobunaga was still alive, Yasuke would have the Noble Phantasm sealed away until Nobunaga dies.

Misc

Wakizashi- Yasuke wields a Wakizashi and will sometimes dual-wield it with Hasebe II. Unlike Hasebe II it is not a Noble Phantasm but it’s much heavier than a normal sword and its sharpness and quality easily surpass that of any normal weapon. On rare occasions, Yasuke will throw this weapon to catch enemies off guard.

Matchlock Pistol- She tends to only use this weapon to catch opponents off guard, deal with non-servant opponents, distract opponents or draw the attention of opposing servants. It is not a Noble Phantasm and while it is leagues above a normal pistol it isn’t too effective against most enemy servants and has to be reloaded when it runs out of ammo.

Armor- Yasuke wears samurai armor that resembles a strange blend of armor from the Sengoku period and that of a ceremonial Japanese Ground Defense Force uniform. The mask she wears is helpful for hiding her identity. It is also capable of altering her voice as long as she wears it.

One thing of note is due to her many travels and love of stories she is pretty good at determining the identity of servants from many parts of the world. She usually needs to at least see a servant’s Noble Phantasm to even begin to make an educated guess and even hearing the name of someone a servant met may be enough of a clue to help her narrow down the identity. However, she is still fallible and one can trick her into coming to the wrong conclusion about a servant’s identity or they can simply keep their identity and life details under tight wraps. She would also have no way of guessing the identity of any servant that came after the time period in which she was alive. So she would be unable to guess the identity of any servants that are modern enough or from the future.

Background

A lot of Yasuke’s background is wrapped in mystery due to a major lack of proper records when concerning her life before serving Nobunaga. Whenever asked or pressed about most of the gaps in her life she usually just says “That doesn’t matter. Not anymore at least.” What is known is that she did have some sort of sufficient combat experience and training before meeting Nobunaga. There is much speculation about where she is from and she admits that she doesn’t remember where she was born. Although, she refuses to say anything about where or who she was raised by. When it comes to the many speculations surrounding where she was born she simply says “If you can name it I’ve probably been there at least once.” She is someone who has definitely traveled to many places, and she says out of all them when excluding Japan she spent the most time in Mozambique “but that isn’t saying much.” She has also been to places like South Sudan, Ethiopia, and many others.

Yasuke was brought to Japan as a bodyguard and former slave tasked with protecting an Italian Jesuit priest named Alessandro Valignano in 1579 and excelled in learning new things, such as the Japanese language, very quickly.

She eventually came into contact with Oda Nobunaga. She went on to quickly impress Nobunaga with her strategic mind and fighting prowess and was thus made a samurai, bodyguard, and weapon-bearer. While making a foreigner a samurai-like this would normally be odd, to say the least, Nobu, as a King of Innovation, was not bound to traditions or tactics she considered needless.

Yasuke and Nobunaga had many talks and Yasuke often regaled her with stories and experiences from all around the world, and as they grew close Nobunaga granted her many things such as houses and the like. One of Yasuke’s most treasured presents from Nobunaga was an ornate ceremonial katana. This katana was surprisingly a relatively weak demonic sword and it lacked a name. When asked about the gift’s name Nobunaga simply shrugged it off and said something like “Name it whatever ya want.” After about a week of being unable to come up with a new name she eventually just decided to name it Hasebe II after one of Nobunaga’s swords. The name was meant to be a symbolic placeholder but it ended up sticking. To this day Yasuke is still trying to come up with a cool name that’ll knock Nobunaga’s socks off. Yasuke went on to hang out, and sometimes even eat, with Nobunaga and various members of the Oda family

Everything changed however when Nobunaga was betrayed and attacked by an army led by one of her retainers Akechi Mitsuhide. Yasuke valiantly fought against Akechi’s forces. However, it was clear they were going to be overwhelmed. Nobunaga was eventually defeated and committed seppuku with Mori Ranmaru acting as her kaishakunin by cutting off Nobunaga’s head. Before her death, she tasked both Ranmaru and Yasuke with returning her head to her son after she died while Ranmaru was given the task of burning the rest of Nobunaga’s body and Yasuke with protecting both Ranmaru and the head as they made their way to Nobutada. This would prevent Akechi and/or his army from obtaining her head or body and it was a great sign of trust. To this day Yasuke considers it one of the greatest signs of trust she has ever received. She is not absolutely sure if this trust stemmed from some sort of friendship or a strictly pragmatic trust in her abilities but to her, it doesn’t matter.

“Let me put it this way. If the first option is true then that means I was a good friend until the very end and if the second option is true then it means that she actually understood my abilities, and knew the place I came from didn’t matter.”

She managed to follow through on her promise to Nobunaga and delivered her head to Nobunaga’s son. She ultimately chose to fight with Nobunaga’s heir, Oda Nobutada and fought alongside his forces during the final battle.

After the loss, Yasuke was captured by Akechi who considered Yasuke a foreigner unworthy of being killed. He went on to say that he would at least think about changing his mind about the statement if Yasuke died with dignity by committing seppuku. Yasuke refused and Akechi decided to send her “back to that temple of barbarians,” with the said temple being a Church. Akechi did not care what happened to her after that.

The records of what happened are lacking but Yasuke fills them by saying that she managed to escape after losing her sword, becoming a ronin that wandered around the world.”

“I am loyal to lord Nobu and care about Japan because she cares. You should make sure you have an actual connection to people and aren’t just serving a transient country for no reason.”

Akechi would eventually be defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi but Yasuke still wants a chance to get her revenge on him.

Appearance

Usually clad in an armored uniform and a large red cloak that helps obscure her true identity. Although, she does take her mask off on occasion when relaxing, taking a breather, or when she is dealing with kids since many people find the uniform’s mask menacing.

Even when her mask is off she is constantly vigilant and on guard, not letting herself lose focus for even a second.

When not wearing her uniform she is extremely tall, has dark skin, and has a lean body type. She has short dreads that have red tips.

Personality

By default, she talks in a respectful manner but will swear and talk down to someone for whom she has lost respect. Most traitors fall under this category but she does not automatically hate all people who choose to abandon their allegiance to someone nor does she inherently hate all acts of betrayal. “There just needs to be a reasonable justification for it and not hurt those I care about.”

She is a quick learner of most things and adapts to new situations quickly. She loves to talk but “does not talk without purpose” and can thus come off as quiet when she has nothing to add. When she begins to talk a lot she is usually asking questions, educating someone, giving advice, or telling a story of one of her adventures. She is also just as fond of listening to the stories of others as she is telling her own.

While she does hold some level of respect for laws and power structures she is always questioning them and will not follow them without thought. If they do not hold up to scrutiny or serve no purpose she does not usually care to follow it or what other people think of her ignoring it.

While for the most part, she will follow any orders a superior gives her, she will ignore any order that puts her, her master, or friends in danger. However, if she has a strong enough attachment to someone or deems it strategically necessary she may be willing to risk her life for them.

While she doesn’t go out of her way to attract attention she is not one to “waste the spotlight.”

Yasuke’s ways of thinking are about as flexible as Nobunaga’s but more bound by common sense. Despite that, she still trusts Nobunaga’s judgments and when asked to do unusual things will just say “I suppose I just can’t see the full picture yet.”

During a Holy Grail War Yasuke is uncomfortable with leaving her Master’s side unless absolutely necessary. She considers Masters to be too strategically important to be left without any means of protection. “Besides, it plays to my strengths as a bodyguard.” Likewise, she will gun directly for other enemy masters if given the opportunity. Yasuke is also unafraid of incorporating or utilizing modern technology to her advantage and using all aspects of the terrain to gain an edge.

She enjoys reading comedy and gag manga/comics in some of her free time.

Servant Interactions

Nobunaga(Archer)- She has great respect for “Lord Nobu chan” and trusts her judgment. She enjoys spending time exchanging stories with her and is willing to fight for her at a moment’s notice.

“Lord Nobu, with your long-range attacks and me staving off close-ranged attacks we’ll be almost unbeatable.”

Nobunaga(Avenger)- Yasuke seems to have great respect for each of the different versions of Nobunaga.

“I’ve served many Nobunaga and they all have such interesting stories to tell.”

Nobunaga(Avenger) Third Ascension- “You got taller...”

Nobunaga(Berserker)- “A swimsuit? ...Maybe I just don’t understand the full picture yet…”

Mori Nagayoshi- “Lets show any traitors the full power of our wrath.”

Mysterious Ranmaru X- “I know you’re not quite the same Ranmaru but… thanks for the help… I owe you one.”

Okita Souji(Saber)- She is in awe of Okita Souji’s swordsmanship. “It’s kind of strange that such a natural counter to Lord Nobu is always showing up around her.”

Okita Souji Alter- “The story of how you came to be is interesting.”

Okita Souji(Assassin)- “If I had a jetpack like that I could perform all-new strategies and techniques thanks to the aerial mobility it provides. I just have to figure out how to get my hands on one of those.”

Oda Nobukatsu- They are both willing to give it their all in support of Nobunaga.

“Just so you know Nobukatsu. I can also protect you if need be.”

“If anyone disrespects Lord Nobu they will have to answer to both of us.”

Chacha- “If you ever need help sleeping I can regale you with one of many stories.”

Master Swordsmen- “Those movements… I wonder if I can incorporate them into my style”

Sakamoto Ryoma- She respects him as someone who embraces innovation and doesn’t limit himself to useless or self-defeating traditions. Although, she does find his outlook a bit overly optimistic at times.

Oryou- She’s a bit nervous about the fact that Oryou is a powerful dragon from the Age of Gods. if she’s friends with Ryouma she must not be a monster or anything.

Okada Izou- “I put up with you more than I should…”

Despite not outright saying it, due to not wanting to deal with any negative reactions he might have, Yasuke sees a bit of herself in Izou. As someone, she could have become her life gone a little differently, a warrior who can only kill. Not everyone seems to understand the tragedy of a warrior who can only kill but she hopes that one-day Izou can find his own “Lord Nobu.” Due to all this, she is more willing to put up with Izou’s bad attitude than most other people are but occasionally has to draw the line when his manners get too atrocious.

Akechi Mitsuhide- “Eat shit and die...”

She is waiting for the perfect moment to strike him down.

Muramasa- “If you get the chance do you think you could upgrade my wakizashi into some sort of Cursed Sword or something. Oh and if you can give it a cool name too, like god slayer, or something…”

Samurai- “Your skills are befitting of your status”

Hang Tuah- She has great respect for his loyalty and sees a bit of herself in him. She considers him a bit naive, however.

“This is a servant who understands the importance of not leaving their master unguarded.”

“I say we should defend to the best of our abilities, with your invulnerability and my bodyguard skills, Master could be almost untouchable.”

Yasuke does seem to have an understanding of this version of Oryou’s plight due to her understanding of the importance of “human” bonds.

Fun Facts

If she was playable in FGO she would be a 4 star servant.

In FGO the Head of Nobunaga would act as a skill that would increase her defense and give her a random buff based on Nobu’s Personal Skills and Noble Phantasms at random.

She would have good compatibility with a master like Kiritsugu Emiya. However, she would not be among one of his most compatible servants.

She would have terrible compatibility with someone like Shirou Emiya since protecting him would put an immense amount of stress on her.

Her Magic the Gathering alignment would be center Blue-Red-White and secondary Black.

If she was in the Epithet Erased universe her Epithet would be Armory.

If she was in the Hunter x Hunter universe her nen type would be Conjuration and her hatsu would be similar to Knov’s and revolve around storing and summoning various types of armor and equipment.

what i think of mu kusunoki

tldr: she's unforgivable in my eyes. hella fucking unforgivable.

but the long story is, i think i know what happened in mu's storyline, though bear in mind this is purely conjecture, so it might be wrong. credit for drama translation to onigiriico who is so fast in translating the drama holy heck.

i find it super interesting that the two mvs have wildly different vibe to it. after pain was more rooted in reality, the background was mostly at school, the people involved in the story are humanoid, everything is pristine, beautiful and tragic. while on the other hand, not my fault is bold, vibrant, surreal, so out of touch of reality it's actually crazy. there are two ways to read this:

that after pain was closer to what happened, that's why the memory is more clear, or

not my fault is closer to what happened, and the reason why it's surreal is that bc mu herself does not consider it the "reality".

i think it's closer to the second point than the first. Why? Because there are contradictions in after pain. first one is the message exchanged between mu and the supposed bullies.

i can't read a lotta kanji, but as i understand it, mu and the "bullies" had a group chat together where mu bought the "bullies" new make ups, and basically wanted to hang out more bc mu had money. and the last sticker that she sent has "ureshii" written on it, means that she's "happy." (feel free to correct me!)

the other contradiction is the reason why she killed her victim. because well, her bully is not her victim. literally, the only time we see the victim was when she walked away when mu is being bullied, so what was the motive? wouldn't it be more obvious if mu killed her bullies and not this one random girl who presumably killed bc she didn't care abt mu? what's up with that?

but then we get it's not my fault. (banger btw)

it starts off immediately with mu being the veritable queen bee of the hive, wanting everyone to please her. and if she's unhappy with you, you get "destroyed". the first line of the song is literally "yappa, hora, watashi no kachi" which means "i knew it, see, i'm the winner." and she continued with "it won't ever change." (which genuinely made me laugh now bc she got unforgivable-leaning vote rn lmfao)

what i would like to point out regarding the person who made her displeased is destroyed is this: once you get pushed away from her favor, it means that you are gone. sure, you still exist, but you are no longer useful to her. you broke into pieces. and i would like to point you guys to these:

so in this frame, we see that she has 8 followers, right? one of them get pushed away and she broke. but then we see this frame:

only three of them left. only three. at the very least, there are FIVE PEOPLE who are now broken because of mu.

we do actually see some uh... people that we know from the mv.

the victim one is pure conjecture, but I'm fairly sure about the three. because well, those three who have the most pictures? are the supposed bullies and the one who survived from getting stomped on mu.

we see the victim looking at the quartet with disgust in her eyes, and when the quartet saw her, she became her next target. which brings me to my next point.

from the way this is framed, her friend, which we will dub as acchan because that was her contact name, notified mu of something and everyone looked back. mu herself looked at the camera like whoever is meddling rn is being a big annoyance.

then immediately after that, the next picture is of the murder and mu mcfuckin' losing it. then the very last scene was the bodies of her "victim" powered up to allow her to escape from her little pod once again, reborn. i think the bugs were actually a metaphor for acceptance (but green, so probably a toxic kind? so perhaps kind of like kissing her ass?) and that after we say that she was forgiven of her sin, she became the queen bee that she was before, escaping the prison as her true self.

and then the real kicker of this whole mv?

THIS PART IN AFTER PAIN. TURNS OUT, SHE WASN'T THE ONE WHO WAS GRIEVING FOR THE GIRL. SHE WAS PROBABLY THE ONE WHO PUT THE FLOWER THERE AND SHE WAS ENJOYING THE SIGHT.

THIS? THIS WAS THE REAL SCENE.

the victim was being bullied by presumably mu and her clique and has to deal with all of her shit being destroyed and probably thrown a bucket of water as well. this is the true scene. none of that beautiful, clean bullshit that mu painted in after pain. no, this is (i believe the real thing)

which then brought me to my next point now, the voice drama. the voice drama confirmed these:

that mu still views herself as the victim

that mu did not think what she did was wrong, it was merely a revenge. if she killed her bullies, it should be okay. if she bullied people, it's because she was bullied before so now it's justified.

that she will be forgiven anyway.

that mu is REALLY good at gaslighting people. she even affected es.

that mu thinks that because her position is so enviable, that's probably the reason why she was being bullied,

that she's not above using threats of other's death for her survival,

that she is a massive bitch who actually doesn't know how friendship work

that the mv could be manipulated by the prisoners, they just have to have strong feeling about the event and it will be painted as such, though MILGRAM can go deeper than that

mkdr, the song chosen for mu, interestingly enough tells a story about a pair who is in a toxic relationship, one who is very dependent on the other, the other one kind of doesn't know the impact of their words. i think this in a way described mu and haruka's relationship.

so i think this is her story. i believe that first when she entered school, she wasn't exactly discriminated or being bullied, it's just that according to her, it must be bullying. for revenge, she decided to be the queen bee of the school. she has everything, looks, money, probably also connection, ofc ppl flocked to her. but she wasn't happy with some of them, so once she's done w/ them, she cuts them off and then bullied those people.

the victim was once upon a time also part of this friendship. she might even be the one who became mu's first friend. but then she saw all the atrocities that mu did, and became disgusted by her.

then i have two ways this could go:

first, the girl became the target of mu's cliques and was bullied by them. decided enough was enough (the final frame of it's not my fault), she decided to fight back and reported mu. mu, knowing that her time is running out, decided to chase after the girl and asked her to delete the evidence. the girl rejected that, ofc, and then mu in panic killed her.

or second, the girl still became the target of mu's cliques, but she was still trying to hold on and not do anything abt it. but when she saw that she wasn't the only target, she was angry at mu and immediately berated her. mu who thrived under attention ofc couldn't take this, esp from someone who she cared about. so she decided to ask for forgiveness, and ofc rejected. mu, in rage, killed the girl.

either way the story goes, the girl died and mu lose it. she lose everyone, her "friends" are now scared of her, she's now in milgram, her status is back to as someone who has nothing.

but then after pain happened. our acceptance of her fault happened. haruka happened. and she was reborn as the queen bee that she was, that she is, and she was so happy that milgram existed.

the worst part abt all of this is that someone like mu exist in this world. someone who, for her benefits, will steps on everyone and gaslight the absolute hell out of you if you don't fit her ideal. we as viewers had been absolutely lied to. after it's not my fault? i can't even see after pain in the same light. holy shit.

anyway that's my thought, i'm definitely voting unforgivable bc this shit won't fly with me. just. ew.

edit: this just make the whole thing worse but rochisama did a translation of things written on the board and the text, and it proved that:

the first scene of after pain (mu waking up) was her being bullied for killing the other girl

the text proves that her and her """bullies"""" was on good term (went out to get tapioca and borrowed lipstick and it was a spare apparently??)

My motivation to write essays has been waning lately BUT I do have a big post about theories and facts on Chilchuck’s family planned, his wife and daughters plus some Chil’s dad and siblings, the whole package. On top of more marchil crumbs to post oof… Ideally I should also rework the first part of the marchil crumbs to make it more streamlined and dare I say convincing. Also fanart and fics which I hope to get around to finishing up… I def want to make more marchil content, but I honestly have no clue which idea to work on next… (I take requests and prompts btw~). I want to make more fluff but I also want to make more hurt/comfort, ahh dilemma

One idea I have that’s particularly relevant is a fic that I’d call Locks of Hair, about blonde hair and the key to his heart. I’d love touching on his attraction to blondes and how that might affect their relationship in a neat lil introspective oneshot like I like to make. LOCKS of hair? Being the KEY to his heart? I love the english language. There’s sorta this trope where if a character loves money has a liking for blondes it’s because like, the hair is "golden", and I’d find playing with that so funny too.

Another that really has my heart right now is Marcille’s mom visiting them to see her daughter and meet her new partner Chilchuck, and it throws them into a frenzy to prepare for it, Chil being entirely too stressed and dreading. And seeing them her mom’s eyes soften and she tells them they remind her of her and her late husband… The bittersweet pride mixed with anticipation at how her daughter has grown into someone who can accept loss, and is willing to throw all of herself into loving despite them not even having 20 years together ahead of them……. I think about marchil proposals and marriage a lot. Hey hey did you know that in Japan "I want to drink your miso soup every day" is a way to propose, because that’s so Dungeon Meshi. The way proposals are so meaningful with these two because it truly is like "i want to give my lifetime to you, knowing all that it entails, but I believe that it’s worth the trouble. That it’s worth it." I have so much proposal dialogue between them written up oogh they make me so emotional

I finished my Kingoh rewatch, among other things,

11 episodes in no one has refer to Rita with female pronouns yet.

I exteremely doubt that Toei would confirm in show canon their gender but so far I see they are delibrately striving to maintain their gender neutral/unkown status. From the first impression of skirt-less suits, to the specific title and now down to the script.

(iirc, i don't recall yuzuki refering to her character with 'she' as well. and that said, japanese grammar helps a lot in omitting pronouns.)

I don't know if Rita's gender would come into focus in a later episode but I doubt it'd be handled with the screentime THSH did. It might just be hazily brushed aside in a line or two to avoid complaints from the PTA. In the best faith, I just hope they don't give Rita a stereotypical makeover episode. They can have a makeover episode (on a fanservice level i'd be the first one to support putting rita/yuzuki through outfits) just reaffirm at the end that it was Rita's choice to present the way they are.

On the other hand, the fact that Morfonia's successor status is brought up hints at a future episode for that transition. At the very least, a flashback episode is guaranteed. Then we might learn if the gender identity is Rita's choice or if the throne demands so?

Chapter 12: The Weeks of Hell Part 2

You finally begin your Japanese lessons with Uzui, and you continue to go through hell as you try to learn the new language. Do you have what it takes to push through? It's difficult but you'll have to give it your all if you want to find the answers you seek and continue to stay by your friends' sides.

You start your lessons with Uzui in a few more days and you're getting pretty excited to finally be able to learn and start talking with people. You know it won't be easy, but you're determined to stick with it, as you know that some of the answers you seek will only be revealed to you once you can understand the language.

Someone, somewhere, had to know something and you needed to find them and be able to speak with them.

That was the main goal, but it certainly would be nice to understand and communicate with your friends as well. You and the guys have gotten pretty good at reading facial expressions and body language, but there are times where you wished you could just... use words. You definitely wanted to tell Inosuke off for trying to steal your food all the time. Last week he tried taking that one sweet treat you like, and you totally blame your period for what happened to him, as he might have a little bite mark on his hand now... and he might have flipped out and tried to wrestle you until Zenitsu came in.

Speaking of which, you also wanted to ask Zenitsu to give you some space—he shows up everywhere! You're starting to think he has super hearing with the way he seems to appear any time you even breathe wrong. You appreciated his concern for you, but you were capable of taking care of yourself and wanted to handle things on your own. You couldn't and didn't want to rely on others for everything.

As for Tanjiro, well... he hasn't really done anything. You would just like to talk to him, as you feel like it would be nice to chat about any and everything together. He seemed like someone you could have those deep, and even silly, kind of conversations with. And since that night Nezuko visited you, she's been showing up to spend more time with you.

It was during those moments that you really wanted to talk.

The quietness didn't bother you... but it would be nice to connect with everyone by being able to voice your thoughts and feelings to them. You aren't alone, but you still feel like you are at times, and it was a little depressing. Luckily, Mitsuri has been taking some time to visit you more as well and you really appreciated her company. She was the only one you could truly talk to right now besides Uzui. She was like a big sister in a way as she doted on you, bringing you lots of food, pinching your cheeks, and hugging you at any given moment.

It threw you off at first but you quickly got used to it, as she wasn't too overbearing in her affections. It was actually nice... you felt accepted and wanted, not like some stranger or burden to be taken care of.

"Mitsuri, can you teach me how to say something?"

She looks up from her bowl, slurping up a noodle and grins. "I can try! What is it?"

"How do I say, 'Let go, that's mine!'?"

"Tebanashite, sore wa watashi no monodesu!" She exclaims in amusement, then purses her lips and tilts her head. "May I ask why?"

"Well... my friend is stubborn and keeps trying to steal my food, especially this one sweet treat that's round and on a stick! Anyways, I just want to tell him to back off. But uhhh, I don't think I can remember all that..."

"Ohhh, I see," she giggles. "Then, 'Tebanasu!' should be fine."

"Te-ban-osu!"

She full on laughs and shakes her head, enunciating it more clearly. "Te-ban-asu! Tebanasu!"

"Te-ban-asu!?"

"Hai!"

Your face scrunches up at the new word. "Hai?"

"Ah, I mean.. yes!"

"Oh, that means yes?"

She giggles again and nods. "Hai!"

"That seems easy to remember! Why can't you just teach me? I don't wanna wait for Uzui anymore..."

"I wish I could, but... hmmm, I have a lot to learn too. Tengen is a better sensei— errr, teacher!"

"Well, you've done a great job so far, but I understand." You hum and smile briefly, your expression falling more serious. "So, I've been wondering... do you think it's possible for me to join the demon slayers?"

"Hmm?"

"I've been thinking about it for a while," you look her in the eye and sigh, "I've only been here for a short time and have gotten hurt, even almost died, if not for the help of my friends. But I don't want to rely on them... or anyone, really, to keep me safe when I could do it myself. I want to be useful and help others... not be a burden."

She slowly nods as she takes in your words. "I see..."

"... so, can I join?"

"I would love to fight by your side," she says, leaning over to clasp a hand with yours, "but... I can not say."

"Who can, then? I know it won't be easy but I'm willing to give it my all!"

"You have a strong heart," she smiles gently, "And you are not a burden. I will speak about this but please do not be saddened if they refuse..."

You smile back, your hope flaring. You knew you shouldn't get your hopes up, you were just a normal girl after all, but you felt like it was the right thing to do. You knew nothing about this place, where you came from, who you really are, or how to fight. But you wanted to know, to learn and grow, fight beside your friends and find the answers to all your questions. You weren't entirely sure you could do much but you were going to try your best. If you are allowed to join and you end up dying, at least it would be for the greater good. You don't want to sit around while everyone else fights and protects others, you also want to make a difference, no matter how small.

Zenitsu pouts, chin resting in his hand as stares off into space, drawing in a deep breath and releasing it in a big huff. Tanjiro can smell the dejection, his sensitive nose scrunching at the almost sour scent.

"Do you think Y/n-chan hates me?"

Tanjiro's brow furrows. "No, why do you ask?"

"I feel like she's been avoiding me lately..."

"Well... you have been following her around a lot. Maybe she just needs some space?"

"Yeah, you're right... but it's so hard!" Zenitsu whines, slumping over.

Tanjiro gives him a light pat on the shoulder. Ever since that night he was there to witness you and Nezuko bonding over braiding each other's hair, and the three of you all sat in silence to watch the stars, something had changed but he couldn't quite put a finger on it. He's always liked spending time with you, however, he found himself seeking out your company a little more often, whether Nezuko tagged a long or not. It was quiet and peaceful, the atmosphere light and comforting whenever you would hang out. It was a nice change from the stress and worries that life threw at everyone.

So, he understood how Zenitsu felt in a way.

"Quit your moping," Inosuke grumbles from nearby, focused on sorting through a collection of acorns he's gathered recently.

Zenitsu ignores him, a long, drawn out and miserable sounding sigh escaping him. He rolls over and sighs again, wanting desperately to be by your side more, but knowing Tanjiro was right and he should lay off. He really didn't want to mess things up, and he's worried he already has, since now whenever you see him you slightly tense up and try to subtly change course. But he definitely noticed, even though you tried to not make it obvious. He caught on after a while that you were indeed avoiding him, and it hurt a little, but he was glad to observe that he wasn't the only one you seemed to be avoiding.

He's noticed that you also avoid Inosuke—especially around meal times—you looked a little tense and defensive and it was no wonder why. The boar-ish man was a glutton. He wasn't too sure about Tanjiro though, which bugged him more than he liked. He was extremely nosy and wanted to know if you also avoided him like you did with them. He could easily hear things, but he never heard much that would set him off to any suspicions, but he didn't want to invade people's privacy, so he really tried not to listen to things that were none of his business anyways.

But he would be lying if he said he didn't want to eavesdrop.. just a little. The mystery and uncertainty is almost too much!

"Do you think she likes the flowers," he asks with some insecurity, "or should I stop doing that? As far as I know, she hasn't said anything about them..."

Tanjiro isn't sure how to answer. He doesn't know. He's spotted you in the garden a couple times, so it's safe to assume you do like flowers and other plants in general, but did you like receiving them? And did you know who was giving them to you? He told Mitsuri to tell you that it was Zenitsu and Inosuke who had picked the flowers and gotten you food when you started your period, giving credit where it was due, and you were pleased by the kind gestures. It wasn't specified who had done what, but it seemed obvious who had done which.

The flowers were Zenitsu's idea and Inosuke came across Mitsuri and told her you apparently needed help because of "womanly issues" then went straight for the kitchen to grab himself food like he originally planned on doing. He quickly ate and was heading back out before he paused and snatched another plate of food, bringing it back to your room where Tanjiro and Zenitsu were already waiting. He could only assume that the pink-haired lady had come and taken you away, since you weren't in there anymore.

And he was right, as you came back with the woman only a minute later.

Inosuke doesn't exactly know why he brought the food, because if you were hungry surely you would've gotten it yourself, when you wanted it. It was a split second decision he made for no other reason than he simply felt like it. Maybe it was to see your reaction? Would you hate it because you weren't hungry, or it wasn't the kind of food you liked, as he just grabbed whatever was laying out and didn't put much thought into whether you'd actually like the food or not? Or would you like it?

He doesn't know why but he wanted to see if you would get mad for whatever reason and try to fight him, or if you'd accept it and possibly praise him? Either way, he was pretty curious and found himself watching your reaction from under his mask carefully. Anyways, Tanjiro told Mitsuri that Zenitsu and Inosuke had brought you the flowers and food, but didn't specify who had done what. You were happy and thankful for the gifts, and that's all that mattered, right?

Well, it apparently mattered to Zenitsu now.

"Does she know they're from you? It wasn't specified, but she at least knows it was one of you."

Zenitsu looks up in thought for a moment. "Umm, I think so?"

"Well, do you want her to know they're from you, if she doesn't already know?"

"Y-Yes, of course! I think... ahhh, I don't know! What if she doesn't know and when she finds out it's me.. she'll hate them?!"

"I don't think—"

"And what if she thinks it's someone else and she falls in love with them instead?!"

Insosuke growls in irritation and whirls around, not able to ignore Zenitsu anymore. "Why does it matter?! Who cares if she knows if it's from you or not?! And didn't you listen, she knows it was one of us, so there's no way she thinks it's anyone else. The only people she could possibly fall in love with for giving her flowers is you or me."

"I know that, I'm just freaking out because I want her to like me back! If she doesn't like me, I think I might actually die..."

"Quit being a dramatic baby! If she doesn't like you, then move on and find someone else to give flowers to!"

"Easy for you to say, you don't like anyone, or anything! I can't just MOVE ON! You don't get it..."

"Nah, I just don't like you," Inosuke says matter of fact, voice monotone.

"Well, no one likes you," Zenitsu quickly quips back.

Tanjiro cuts in, giving them small glares. "Hey, be nice you guys! We're all friends, right? We should be able to talk to each other without fighting."

Inosuke leans his head back in a bored manner. "Can you tell him to shut his trap, then? His blubbering is giving me a real headache..."

"And can you politely tell Inosuke that his stupid mask gives me the creeps and to throw it away!?"

"Guys—"

"What!? Like hell I will!"

"It's an old, gross pig head! Just get rid of it!"

"No!"

"See, you can't let go of something either!"

"What?! It's totally different!"

"How so?! Do you not like it?! Is it precious to you?!"

"No..! Yes..! I mean— ughhh!"

"How do you not know?! You have feelings too, right? Then you should know how you feel! Are you emotionally constipated or something?!"

"AAAARGH!!"

That's the only warning Zenitsu gets before Inosuke is charging at him and they run around the room yelling at each other. Tanjiro stays seated, deadpan expression, even as they knock some things over and mess up their room.

"Can't you go five minutes without trying to fight anyone?!"

"Can't you go five minutes without whining and chasing a girl around who obviously wants nothing to do with you!?"

"You're one to talk!" Zenitsu yells, heaving as he points at him. "She avoids you too, so you're no better!"

"No she doesn't!"

"She does! You always try to steal her food and just grab her!"

"That's not even the same! Yours is way worse!"

It takes ten whole minutes of them running and fighting until things finally start to settle down. Tanjiro slowly stands up once they catch their breaths and smiles at them, but it's strained and doesn't reach his eyes. Their eyes widen slightly, it always freaked them out when he got like this. They stay quiet and listen carefully as he orders them to tidy the room back up, still smiling as he stares them down, before he calmly walks out of the room.

Once he leaves Zenitsu deflates and lets all of the air out of his lungs, groaning in relief that Tanjiro didn't give them a worse punishment, while Inosuke wordlessly stands there. They look at each other briefly before they get to work and begrudgingly fix everything together, huffing and puffing, glaring daggers from the corner of their eyes.

Mitsuri hums a little tune as she makes her way around the mansion, a little hop in her steps. She isn't really thinking about anything until she hears a voice booming from nearby, her stride coming to a stand still as she registers the voice and beams. Oh, perfect! She resumes her pace and follows the sound of a loud, 'tasty!', thrown into the air until she finds the owner of the voice.

"Hmm, tasty!"

She giggles softly and walks closer, eyes crinkling in amusement at the fiery man's exclamation of the food he was currently eating. He was always appreciative of good food and almost deemed it necessary to let it be known, which she found silly but also cute in a way. She loved seeing others happy and found it even more amusing when a person like him, who you may look at first glance and believe to be extremely serious or intimidating, actually had different aspects about them.

Who would've thought a man like Rengoku, with sharp eyes and a powerful aura, would be grinning from ear to ear, humming and shouting praise about a meal like a child? She certainly didn't think so when she first met him, she was unsure, but after getting to know him more she's come to realize he wasn't scary at all. Besides Shinobu, he was one of the only other Hashira she felt she could speak with more easily.

There was also Obanai... but she still got a little flittering feeling whenever she was around him.

She shakes her head, getting rid of the thoughts, she sought Kyojuro out for a reason as soon as she heard him. "Ooh, that does look yummy," she says, peeking over his shoulder.

He turns to her, chewing the last piece in his mouth before quickly swallowing and grinning. "Ah, indeed it is!"

"Great! I'll leave you to enjoy your meal, but first, I have a quick question.. if you don't mind?"

"Not at all!" He smiles, setting his bowl down so he can give her his full attention.

"Well, I just spoke with Y/n.. and she asked me something that I'm afraid I could not answer..."

"Is that so? What was it?"

Mitsuri purses her lips and wrings her hands together. "She... wants to join us, and I believe in her! But... the others and Master may not feel the same or allow it..."

"That is true. They may not, so then tell me, why do you believe in her?"

She looks him in the eye, brow furrowing as she speaks. "Because.. she has a strong heart! Just like you and the others... I can feel it. She wants to help—to get stronger—so I believe she should be able to join us and fight by our sides! She does not want to rely on others and wants to take action. I just know that she's extremely brave and determined!"

"I see," he says thoughtfully, nodding his head along. "If that is the way you feel, then I shall also believe in her!"

Her mouth gapes open and she clasps her hands to her chest. "R-Really?!"

"Of course! I do not take you for someone to say such things so lightly, if you do not mean them . So, that means what you've said just now is truthful and a decision that you believe to be right. You are also strong, you're here for a reason because of your skills and decisions," he remarks. "Therefore, if you think someone else is capable of doing a good job and trying their hardest, then I have no reason to object!"

Her chins wobbles a little as tears try to form along her lash line, a hand flying up to cover a bashful smile. "Oh, thank you! Yes, I really mean it and believe we should let her train and join the corps. I don't know how but I can just feel it, she will be a valuable member and bring us one step closer to achieving all our dreams."

"Then it shall be done," he laughs heartily.

She squeals in delight, then pauses. "Oh, but the others and Master..."

"Worry not! I will request to take her under my wing and make sure she becomes a fine swordsman!"

"Wonderful! This is so wonderful, oh, she'll be so happy to hear! I really do hope Master and the others will accept her..."

"We've accepted a demon girl into the grounds, so it seems anything is possible," he muses.

Mitsuri grins and bows as she leaves and he finally finishes his bowl of food with a satisfied hum. He cleans up after himself then heads out towards the headquarters, set on his new mission of finding the Master to request training you as one of them. When Kocho first told them about you, he was curious and wanted to help, but since you were foreign and neither of you spoke the same language, the notion was quickly squashed as he had nothing substantial to offer with your situation. Mitsuri and Tengen could help though, seeing as they could at least speak with you, and he was glad that they could assist you.

But he admits, he was a little... disheartened to realize he wouldn't be able to aid in this situation. He takes pride in being of service to others and making the world a better place, whether it be by slaying demons, or even simple tasks with helping other people. He's done many different things but this was very new and sort of exciting—it's not every day you meet a foreigner who's lost their memory.

He had accepted the fact he would be of no use and would continue his regular slaying duties, however, it seems that fate had other plans.

You wanted to join them, to become a demon slayer and fight by their sides.

It would be extremely difficult. Injury and death are very high possibilities. All he knows of you, is what he's been told, and it wasn't much. He doesn't doubt Mitsuri's claims but he would like to see for himself if you have what it takes. He exits the mansion, walking through the front courtyard and makes his way past the gate. He should reach the headquarters within fifteen to twenty minutes at the pace he's going, and just as he thought, he makes it within that time frame and immediately seeks out the Master. He comes to the main building where he finds Master Ubuyashiki sitting on the engawa, his eyes are closed and he has a serene look about him as he takes in slow, deep breaths. A gust of wind weaves between them and the Master opens his eyes, staring straight ahead.

"Good afternoon," Ubuyashiki greets, a small smile forming on his lips. "It is a lovely day, is it not?"

"Greetings, Master. Yes, it is a very fine day! I am glad to see you enjoying the weather."

"Mhm, indeed. Now then, tell me, what brings you here my child?"

"I've come to make a request of great importance," Kyojuro states, his voice low, and Ubuyashiki nods once so he continues. "Master, I ask that you consider allowing me to take the girl known as Y/n, to teach her to become a swordsman, and join the ranks as a fellow comrade of the demon slayers."

"You wish to train the girl? May I ask what has inspired this request?"

"Yes," Kyojuro affirms, "it was brought to my attention by Mitsuri Kanroji, that the girl had expressed a desire to join the corps."

"I see... It is quite peculiar, seeing as she is a foreigner, and has no recollection of her life before here. I do, however, find it admirable that such a person is willing to become stronger and fight alongside her new friends and other members. She must have witnessed the hardships we face and know it is no easy task, as she has traveled with those three boys, after all." He pauses in thought and Kyojuro waits as he gives his final answer. "Very well, then. If Mitsuri and yourself see potential in this young lady, then I shall accept your request."

"Thank you, Master," Kyojuro says lightly. "When shall I have her ready for Final Selection?"

"Ah, yes, there is no need to worry about that. Let it be known, from here on out, that Miss Y/n is now recognized as an official member of the corps. I know she will be in more than capable hands, even so, I wish good luck upon you and your new pupil. Do your best, Kyojuro," he adds warmly.

Kyojuro hums in appreciation, a wide grin splitting open as he bows respectfully. "Very well, Master, I shall see to it! And I pray for your continued good health..." He straightens back up and gets ready to leave. "Farewell!"

"Farewell, my child."

It's later in the evening, you and the boys are all sitting around a small table eating and talking, well... except you, as you sit back and quietly munch on your food, listening to your friends chatter amongst themselves. You wish you knew what everyone was saying, it really bugs you, but you still enjoy the hushed tones with which they speak for once. It was calm for once and you found it rather odd but you dare not question it and just basked in the peace, that is until Inosuke casts his eyes your direction and a greedy, wandering hand snakes towards your plate of food. You watch from the corner of you eye, slightly amused that he seems to think you are totally unaware of his current advances, but as soon as his fingers are within reach you fling your hand out and swat him away.

"Huahh—what the hell?!"

He glares at you, holding his hand close and rubbing his knuckles right where you smacked him, and you return the stare.

"Let go," you hiss out, pulling your plate closer.

Zenitsu is mid-bite as you speak and accidentally inhales the food, and Tanjiro's eyes bulge out as he quickly looks at you before he whirls around to help Zenitsu by slamming his palm against his back, who's coughing as he chokes on the piece of food. A few more forceful slaps and the food goes flying onto the floor, rolling away, and Zenitsu leans over trying to catch his breath while Tanjiro pats him more gently as he tries to soothe him.

"Did she just speak Japanese?!" Zenitsu sits back up, wide eyes focused on you. "She totally did! Has she been able to speak this whole time?! No, that can't be right, she needs to be taught... I thought that the obnoxious, superficial guy was supposed to be teaching her, but he hasn't come back yet. So then, who's teaching her?! Is she learning by herself!?"

"Yes... she did speak Japanese," Tanjiro confirms. "And you're right, Mr. Uzui is supposed to be teaching her. She doesn't know anything yet, so he might have taught her that before he left, or perhaps someone else told her."

"BUT WHO?!"

"I think the Love Hashira can speak some English, so... maybe she did? Or perhaps, she is learning by herself?" He tilts his head and looks at you with wide eyes. "Y/n, can you understand us? Have you been learning on your own, or is someone else teaching you?" You blink at him, your face lightly scrunching and you shake your head as you shrug your shoulders, showing you have no idea what he is saying and he nods in understanding. "I see... alright, that clears it up then."

"So, she still doesn't know much and just learned that then. Ahh man, I was really hoping she could speak already. I want to talk to her," Zenitsu bemoans.

"We'll be able to talk to her soon enough, don't worry! In the meantime, let's try to help her learn," Tanjiro suggests with a grin. "Practicing is good, so I'm sure Mr. Uzui wouldn't mind if we helped with simple things."

"Yeah, good idea! Oh, Y/n-chaaan~ Repeat after me!"

He leans over the table and smiles mischievously, pointing at you and then himself as he opens and closes his mouth a few times.

You focus on what he's doing, trying to understand what he wants. "Uhh, you want me to speak? Or repeat what you say," you guess.

You copy his actions and he nods furiously, so you laugh a little and nod as well. You get it now, he wants you to copy him.

He giggles and slightly waggles his brows at you, as he speaks in a more slow and seductive tone. "Watashi wa anata o aishi, anata to kekkon shimasu~"

Tanjiro whirls around, ready to reprimand him but Zenitsu quickly shoves a hand over his mouth and holds him there, not even sparing him a glance as he keeps his focus on you and urges you to repeat what he said. Tanjiro tries to remove his hands, struggling against him and Inosuke cackles, fully enjoying the show as they fight and have your full attention, giving him the opportunity to successfully steal from your plate again.

"Zem— itsu! Le.. go— You cab't tell.. her to say.. hat—"

"SHUT IT, LET HER SPEAK!"

You sound it out and try your hardest to copy him, butchering the words, but he doesn't seem to care as he continues nodding along and encouraging you to repeat what he's saying. You don't question why he and Tanjiro are pushing and pulling at each other while he stays focused on getting you to copy the sentence, and you probably should, but why would you when this wasn't anything out of the ordinary? They all play and fight with each other, so you have no reason to wonder what exactly Zenitsu is making you say. It was funny and you were learning something new!

" Watashi wa... anata," you pause and watch Zenitsu's mouth carefully as he grits out the words, "o aishi, anata to kekkon shimasu!"

He lets go of Tanjiro and hollers, excitedly throwing his hands up. Tanjiro yanks him by the collar as he then tries to clamber over the table to your side, looking at him in disapproval as he whines and reaches out for you.

"Tanjiroooo, let me go! You heard what she said, you can't stop me now!"

Tanjiro seethes, continuing to hold him back. "She has no idea what that means! I will not allow you to trick her like that, have you no shame?!"

"You got in my way once already! Why can't you just let me and Y/n-chan be happy!"

"Because she hasn't actually agreed to your nonsense!"

"But she did!"

"That doesn't count," he says in exasperation. "You know she doesn't love you or want to marry you."

"Ah, come onnnn," he whines pitifully. "That's so harsh!"

"Well... not yet, anyways. Maybe she will... or maybe she won't."

"You don't think she'll ever love me, I can hear it in your voice! Tanjiro, how can you be so cruel!?"

"N-No, Zenitsu, knock it off! You know what I mean, you can't just pretend or expect things from other people. She has feelings too! Didn't you say you were going to try your best to woo her or something?"

"But it takes so much work!"

Tanjiro almost rolls his eyes and sighs. "You won't get anything without working for it! Come on now, you're being dramatic."

As they continue to bicker you turn your attention back to your food and find most of it missing. Your gaze follows the trail of crumbs that lead you straight to the culprit, who grins smugly at you, chewing obnoxiously and your eye slightly twitches. Inosuke snickers as he reaches for the last items on your plate, which results in both of your hands flailing around in a jumbled mess as you try to smack each other.

You want to wipe that stupid, pretty look off his face but at the same time you can't help but indulge in his childish little game. You notice he isn't actually trying that hard to steal more food because he could easily overpower your defenses and snatch it if he truly wanted to. It seems like he was just playing... he was messing with you for the fun of it, and it was honestly kind of cute and funny. You haven't really seen this side to him before, he was usually stoic and hot-headed, annoying even.

You giggle and swat at him some more as he grabs onto your hands and tries to hold them together in a ball. This is the perfect chance for you to keep saying what Mitsuri taught you.

"Let go!"

"Make me," he snorts.

Dinner lasts a little longer than usual and the three little girls that help around the mansion have come in a couple times to check on you all, sharing odd looks with each other as they witness the chaos. The last time they come to check on you, they bring the tea that Zenitsu has to drink and he curls into a ball, sobbing when they try to get him to take it. He keeps refusing, so they resort to holding him down and trying to get him to take it by force but they aren't successful.

You crawl over to try and help by keeping him pinned but he puts up a fight and doesn't seem to notice or care who is wrestling with him. You manage to roll him over and sit some of your weight on his legs and grab onto his arms, trying to keep him still as he thrashes around. You struggle a bit until he realizes you're on top of him (with two of the other girls holding him down as well), and his face bursts into flames, eyes going blank as his soul leaves his body.

He's going to heaven!

But his soul is abruptly back down when the horribly bitter medicine is tilted into his opened mouth, the last girl closing his jaw and holding it shut until he swallows. He groans and cries, complaining about how awful that was and he'd rather just die right now, especially since you're sitting on him—what a way to die! Although, he could think of an even better way to die...

Your weight is lifted as the girls shoo you away and an older girl comes in, hands on her hips. "Good grief! You've been giving us a lot of trouble. In order to get you through this more quickly, I'm gonna have to up the dosage and require you to drink two extra cups in the morning, and two at night."

He snaps out of his stupor, shooting up and stares at her in horror. "WHAT?!?! N-NO WAY!!"

"I can't have these girls getting stuck trying to make you drink it, they have more important things to do, you know!? Even the poor foreigner had to help," she tsks. "Listen, we want this over with just as much as you do. Just do what I say and you'll be cleared more quickly, alright?"

"But.. but..."

She narrows her eyes at him and hangs his head, whimpering but agreeing with her.

"As for you two," she points at Tanjiro and Inosuke, "you appear to be healing a lot quicker than I thought, but just to be safe, I'm requiring just half the time of rest before you can be released."

Tanjiro nods, smiling. "Oh, that's good. It's been a little over a week, but I have been feeling a lot better. Will we be allowed to train then?"

"Yes, now carry on."

She leaves with the other girls and you all sit around for another minute until you get tired and start to clean everything up.

The next couple of days go by and you anxiously wait outside all morning for Uzui's return. Two weeks have finally gone by and you can start learning Japanese! You pace around, trying to keep your mind occupied until he arrives, but you eventually get bored and end up falling asleep sitting on a random rock by the entrance. When you're woken up, your mind is slow to register the figure in front of you, standing proudly as they chuckle at your hunched over form. You blink and rub at your eyes, staring at them as you slowly come out of the fog. Once your mind catches up you pale at the sight in front of you.

Oh no, not him!

You wipe the corner of your mouth, cringing at the tiny bit of drool and flush at being caught snoozing in such an awkward and unflattering way. Your gaze shifts to the side and your eyes nearly pop out even more as you notice the other man, who's not even hiding his amusement as he laughs at you.

"Well, well, looks like I've got a slacker on my hands!"

"What?! No," you protest, "I'm not a slacker!"

"Are you sure? I think I saw a river coming out of your mouth..." Uzui jokes.

Your cheeks puff out indignantly, scowling at him. "Shut up, you did not! And what else was I supposed to do while I waited for you?"

He laughs and claps his hands together, turning to the man next to him, who you momentarily forgot about. "She's a real handful already, are you sure you can handle her, Rengoku?"

"Certainly!"

The fiery man flashes a grin at you and you nearly melt into a puddle but manage to hold yourself together by avoiding eye contact. How embarrassing for him to also see you sleeping! Something about him made you feel way more shy than you ever were around any of the other people you've met so far.

"Of course! Don't go too hard on her now, but don't let her take it easy either." He looks down and scrunches his nose at you. "Isn't that right, kid?"

You look between them, confused but nodding anyway. "Uhh, right... yeah?"

"Good!" He snickers and raises a brow. "Alright, kid, you're in for some real fun from here on out! As you know, you'll be learning Japanese, with yours truly! But that's not all, you've got even more work cut out for you."

You bite the side of your cheek, looking between the two men nervously. "W-What else will I be doing?"

"Don't you know? I believe you talked to a certain someone, asking her if you could train, and join the corps."

"Are you saying—"

"Yup! The Master was informed of your wishes and accepted you. You'll be learning from Rengoku, here. He'll teach you everything you need to know about swordsmanship, breathing styles, and how to fight demons."

"Oh my god," you breathe, sitting back as you stare blankly at the ground. "I can't believe it..."

"Well, you better start believing because it won't be easy. You gotta work hard, or you'll end up dead. You're a smart girl, so you already know that, right?" You nod once and he crouches down to your level. "We're going to do our best to teach you, but it's you who will have to put in the real effort here. You want to talk with your friends? You want to get stronger and fight by our sides? Then give it your all and we'll make sure it happens."

"R-Right!"

He smiles, reaching over to tousle your hair as he stands. "Good! Now, then, there's no time like the present. Let's get started shall we?"

You shoot up and panic a little. "Now?!"

"You want to wait longer, or what?"

"No, but.. ummm, I wasn't expecting to start training so soon! Fighting, I mean.."

"Ah, you won't start that until later. We gotta get you understanding and speaking some of the basics first! I think you'll be ready by the time your little friends are discharged and allowed to start recovery training, but who knows, could be later."

"I want to be with them!"

"Then the sooner we start, the better, right?"

"Right," you swallow.

"I'll let you know when she's ready to start her training with you," he informs Rengoku, who nods and walks away. Uzui then turns on his heel and waves his hand forward for you to follow him. "Let's go!"

He leads you inside and finds a room where you'll do all your studying. He slides a bag off his back and opens it, taking some books and paper out, stacking them on a table. Once he has everything sorted, he grabs the first set and places them in front of you as you sit down and run your eyes over it all. He sits down across from you and claps his hands together, grinning as he opens the book up and begins his first lesson.

The first hour is him explaining some things and answering a lot of questions, then he has you read and write the letters of their alphabet. It's split into three systems, which is overwhelming and hard to understand at first, but you slowly start to understand it a little more. By the time you're done trying to memorize the letters and writing them down you feel exhausted, your head throbbing as a headache threatens to form. You take a break but resume and don't stop until late in the night when you can't take it anymore.

Yeah, this was going to be hard... but you had to do it.

The next day is spent going over everything, practicing even more reading and writing. You imagine this is all you'll be doing until you get it down, then you'll be able to start putting more things together, until eventually you know how to read, write, and speak fluently. Just as you thought, the next couple of days are just repeating everything you've been learning so far and practicing. Lots and lots of practice. He wants you to correctly name things, to memorize them, and say it out loud so he follows you around, grabbing a cup, bowel, pillow, and other random objects as he shows them to you. He tells you what they are called then has you repeat it, and throughout the day he'll quiz you on them and ask you to tell him what they are again... and again.

The repetition almost drives you mad but it works and hammers the information in more. Your brain feels like it's going to explode with how much memory is being taken up, but it feels nice in a weird way. You're learning a lot of new stuff and while it was extremely frustrating at some points, it was also quite fun.

Tanjiro stops by one day to ask if he and the others could be of help, and Uzui ponders it for a minute before he tells him that they could help by practicing the same things with you while he slowly moves on to the new things for you to learn. Before you know it, three weeks have gone by and you can recall a few things and very basic sentences. If someone talked to you, you could understand bits and pieces. You know how to greet and introduce yourself. You know how to say goodbye. You know how to ask for help. You know how to apologize and thank others. You know some objects and food as well.

It's been going pretty well so far, if you had to say so yourself, but you know you were only just scratching the surface. It's a long time coming but you couldn't wait until you could fully understand and speak with others. In these last few weeks you've had more headaches than you can count and you've cried in frustration, nearly giving up but you grit your teeth and push through. You can't give up, not matter how hard it is, especially when Uzui and your friends keep supporting your efforts and try their best to help you.

You can do this!

Before you know it, you'll have it all down. You'll be able to talk with people, to really connect and not feel so alone. Before you know it, you'll be training to become a demon slayer like everyone else, helping protect others and fight by your comrades, making the world a safer and happier place. And before you know it, you'll surely find the answers that you seek and know where you came from, who you really are.

Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon or My happy marriage Ep6:

Ah to read all these angry comments made me very happy and I can understand why so many said that it was a blood boiling episode. :D I can only speak for myself but I was very relaxed because my anger is so big against this whole family that I don´t feel anything anymore. And I don´t write down my inner thoughts while seeing all these ugly people.

But what happened that made so many angry? Well a lot of things happened and I´m so glad that they didn´t shorten this whole situation because otherwise we couldn´´t have felt these emotion we felt. Miyo was kidnapped and then abused and then saved. This is a very short explanation before I go more into details.

Can you believe that there are people who try to do everything to get what they want? And it doesn´t matter how ridiculous their goal is. Yeah, we all heard at least once this one motto or words: "No matter how small your goal is, you´ll have to fight for it." Yeah in a positive way it can be quite motivating but we are speaking here for this single damn goal: "Snap away Miyos financee and replacing here because he is far more beautiful." And for that they kidnap her and abuse her physically and psychologically. Like they did in the past. And for me this is really sick but on the other hand I´m not surprised. This whole family is so bitter so they can´t do anything else than make people feel worse and insult them and try to point out that they are nothing important in life. Miyo is FAR BETTER than this whole family but she never ever thought that specifically. Miyo didn´t think of her own: "Oh I´m better than my family."

More like it was the opposite case, she always felt way worse and thought: "Oh I don´t deserve anything they (Kudos family ---> yes I see Yurie and Kudo as a whole family) gave me."

But now that they saw how good her life is in the new family they can´t accept it because they really thought they could throw her out like trash. So they try to remember her where she comes from and that she can´t flee from her past. But if you ask me then I would say: She is better because she doesn´t feel toxic jealousy. And she has every right to think like that that she is better than these creatures.

Yeah the classical: "You were always a victim and our punching bag and I won´t accept that you can easily forget us, so I have to remind you again where you come from." I mean it´s kinda cute that they try to use this method and make her regret again. They do all these things they did to her in the past but this time it will be different and I love how we could follow it. Also it was great to see the change in Miyo but her toxic abusing family didn´t change a single tiny thing.

If you ask me, it was kinda cute that they thought, they could fight against Kudo-sama. XD He isn´t a monster just because he is way stronger than these old geezers. He is angry and also he is protecting himself because he wants to save Miyo. Also he is a general, like... isn´t it kinda good when he is that strong? And another thing but this might sound kinda crazy. I liked the fact that they made a wall as an attack and Kudo broke down this wall with easiness. For me it was a great metaphor to show us how easily he changes Miyos life (in a positive way).

I really loved this scene. So satisfying and they deserved every second of it. XDDDD Like I mean the whole family is shit but these two old men are the main reason for all these things. Miyos father who needed a new woman and brought these two toxic female characters in this household and the other one who just see Miyo as a tool to gain and strenghten his power. F** THEM!!!!!

Yeah and who do you think you are? People who force you to play a role in this world are the worst. They are so damn toxic and I hate them from the bottom of my heart. Nobody should force Miyo and YOU to take a specific place in this world, okay?

Another satisfying moment. The father on his knees beside his burning house he had all these years. Yeah maybe he worked very hard for that and tried to protect it but now after one mistake he lost everything and I don´t feel sad at all. He deserves it after all these years of ignoring the abusement. This is his punishment.

Miyo remembering Kudo and gaining her strengh to withstand all this shit she has to endure. (sorry for my language) This was one of my most favourite scenes. He gave her self confidence and made her stronger because he showed her what true kindness is and yeah that people are out there who truly love her.

Indeed he came because he isn´t the type of person who break his promises. <3

A wonderful, beautiful and great pic. The women who tries to take everything for herself and her ugly daughter, has lost everything and can only observe the fires which are destroying the house she invaded. Now she has lost EVERYTHING. On the other hand you can see it as: Oh everything burns down that doesn´t belong to her, because she didn´t help her husband to build this house. She was never a part of it.

Really great. I was very happy to see it. <3 :D

Oh and with ugly I mean the personality. For me there is appearance beauty and character beauty. And yeah these two women are the most ugly people I´ve ever seen. (personality wise)

Hmmmmm he is angry and soooo sexy. <3 I really love it how protective he is AND he made it very clear that he will never ever marry such an arrogant woman. Also, this is the thing that I always wanna see. Straight to the point and not long dialogues which are very vague in the end!!!!!

Yeah everything is burning, so you can also see it as: "Miyo has lost now everything!" But on the other hand she gained so much more. So maybe it´s also a new beginning after closing an old chapter. <3

So, for some people it´s a completely end but for some others it´s a new start to build a new home which is far way more better than the old one. And I´m 100% here for that. :D

Why is it that always really old people are the most shittiest characters in an anime? XDDDDD (okay this is a little exaggeration but you know what i mean) He is soooo damn old and yet he doesn´t wanna let go of his powers. And yep I´m scared what they meant with operation....

He slept by her side the whole time. <3 Somehow while watching this scene I had to remember the words you hear when marrying someone: "in good times and in bad". (not sure if it´s worldwide but in germany they ask the couple these words before they marry each other) And yeah this was a bad time and yet he was there and protected her and stood by her side.

She deserves a good hug because she thought it was her fault. But it wasn´t and she was so worried. :( Poor Yurie.

Well that was episode 6 and I´m really looking forward for episode 7. <3

Regarding the Horizons OST and tracks.

Using this link as reference for track names. I'm curious about some specific tracks.

Track 3 - I'm Nothing Special: This one seems to be about Liko (since it has "watashi" in it), and highlights her self-esteem/confidence/self-loathing(?) issues... I love (in a way) that it's basically the first track showing up in the list after the first two (which are just the title tracks, so these two are nothing special).. It gives a good direction and a sense of who Liko is as a protagonist and character already (someone who doesn't think highly of herself etc).

Track 5 - The Sky Is Calling Me: The "me" here seems to refer to Liko again (track name has "watashi" in it, which is what Liko uses etc). Makes me think of all these scenes in the first chapter when Liko looked at the sky and reached out her hand to grasp the moon?

Track 7 - Fate Tossed About: I'm mostly curious about the word "fate" here. When I think about "fate" in Horizons, the characters/meetings who come to mind are Liko and Nyahoja, Roy and Hogator, and Friede and Cap. These are the ones who make me think the most about "fate". Except here, the name refers to being tossed about/at the mercy of fate? So it doesn't quite have the same hopeful feeling to it. I wonder what fate it's referring to.

Track 32 - I NEED YOU: Who needs who? Very curious to see which scenes it was used in, given the track name (this one makes me think mostly about the bond between human and Pokemon too).

Track 33 - Echoes of Myth: I like this name. I guess it's about Lucius's story?

Track 36 - Tale of the Explorers: I wonder if this one is the chorus bgm thing that is often used during the Explorers scenes? (I suppose it's their theme?) And the word "tale" kind of stood out to me here too (it connects to the story/tale of the ancient adventurer, and given how we know the Explorers and Lucius are connected, etc).

Track 37 - At the End of Suffering: Which suffering are we referring to here..

Track 42 - Embrace This World I Love: It ends on a quite optimistic note (after starting off with a "I'm Not Special"). This one makes me think of Terapagos, idk why.

Anyway, these are the names that stood out most to me and that make me wonder which scenes these tracks were used in (and it'll possibly add a layer of depth/or things to think about going back to specific scenes and knowing that a bgm with a certain name was picked for a specific scene, etc).

I'm going to stick with the fics that deserve more attention because also listing my favorites that are popular would make this post way too long

In The After by HopeNight. It's a post-canon fic that ignores everything past the Cultural Festival Arc, and follows Midoriya training a girl named Watashi Kiyomi who wants to be a Quirkless Hero. It's excellent and severely underloved.

Ripples on Deep Water by Silver_Snek, which is a rewrite of a fic I really enjoyed up until the ending took a sudden turn, which I assume is related to it being rewriten. This rewrite is still on chapter one, and hasn't updated in... a bit, but I have high hopes.

Don't Forget The Support by FandomsandFlowers, if you want that delicious Support-Heroics Hybrid Quirkless Midoriya

A Sort of Patchwork by DyedViolet, sadly discontinued after the author fell out of the fandom, but otherwise an extremely good urban fantasy with Quirks AU

Syzygy Series by orkestrations. It's Dad For One but everyone already knows and is supportive, and is real good

The Kaiju Hero: Titan Monarch by TreeKiller. The fic that hooked me on Hero Course Hatsume. Should note it has some All Might bashing and Endeavor accidentally gets Inko killed very early on, but if you're cool with that it's fun and wild. Also hasn't updated in a while.

Paper Agency by The Feels Whale, which I'm surprised to see has >100,000 hits. Due to a Department of Education scandal, Midoriya wasn't allowed into any high school. If you think this will stop him, I don't know what manga you've been reading. Starts after graduation.

Okay so Izuku Midoriya vs the World may have been orphaned, but it also has the most interesting take on All Might Negativity I've ever seen in that his entire character arc is overcoming the internalized discrimination he faced growing up that he never had to examine after getting OFA. Abusive Inko.

Flashback by Psyckosama has less than 100,000 hits and that should be a crime. It is easily one of the best Time Travel Fixits, and has some really cool worldbuilding.

Inheritor of Two by The_Mad_Mystic. It's very similar to Chaos For All. Be aware that Midoriya does lose a limb though.

Crossfire by CosmicMerman. Midoriya fakes a Quirk by buying experimental nanites online.

Shared Dream by Beaumains. Midoriya adopts a cat with a Quirk that lets the cat share traits with people she bonds with. So now he has an intelligent cat he can talk to with his mind and also cat mutations.

Duplicity And All Its Cold Comforts by DragonflyxPardoies. Wanna watch a bunch of kids take down society?

Blood and bones and heroism by Elia41. More urban fantasy fused with MHA. Interesting in that after learning magic, Midoriya figures he may as well make his classmates at UA learn magic too.

Born of cold (and winter air) by StormySkiesAhead. Yes it's another urban fantasy. No I will never be sick of them. Midoriya and Todoroki are dragons, and there are a handful of other magical being in Class 1-A. The LoV breaks into Endeavor's agency to glue tiny plastic camels to everything. Literally what more could you want?

i'll be your biggest kept secret and your biggest mistake by sascake. This one has a pretty dark backstory as a future fic, so be careful of that. Namely, there was an explicit suicide attempt. While it's never shown in detail it's discussed pretty heavily, so be careful about that. Despite that it's mostly a cute love story about Midoriya and Todoroki.

Elemental Storm by CatnipKDODO, who follows this blog, so hi! This fic is getting a rewrite but this version is still available for reading. It has that fandom concept of a third transferable Quirk, in this case one themed around all the elements. Hurricane, that Canadian Hero from WIMTBAH is a cameo from this fic. Tagged as All Might bashing but really isn't.

Drown Together by Zirconium40. Wanna watch everyone destroy society? Darkest HPSC depiction I've seen.

Parallel Lines by Endivinity. Midoriya has AFO and is implied to have killed AFO. Mysteries abound.

if I make it through tonight, everybody's gonna hear me out! by x_asche_13. Described as a Leverage AU, and has one of my favorite 'Izuku and Himiko are siblings' dynamics.

Then I'll Do It My Way by justaglitch. BAMF Yaoyorozu.

Defiant by arc1m3d35. OFA!Uraraka and AFO!Midoriya are trapped on an island AFO uses to hold animalistic Noumu.

Son of a Gun by Randomsumofagum. Izuku is the son of Inko and Nagant.

hell is empty (all the devils are here) by idiot_onion. Midoriya is possessed by a demon. This goes surprisingly well for him.

a cubic centimeter of flesh Series by Lucifra. Due to a series of coincidences and a serious mistake by AFO, Midoriya ends up killing him and stealing his body on complete accident.

My Battle Acamaidia by Drink_Some_Water. Shigaraki played a few too many games and decides that what he needs before the USJ attack... is maids. This is a surprisingly wholesome Villain!Fem!Midoriya fic

Key Lime Pie by Violetsumire, another person who follows this blog, hello! The future daughter of Inko and All Might was left unsupervised with Hatsume and naturally Hatsume sent her back in time, and she sets out to save Izuku's life. Discussed suicide.

Eldritch by CosmicAce. A rewrite. Death asked if anyone was gonna mom Izuku and didn't wait for an answer.

Pika!! Could you pretty please translate the part in 348 where Deku talks about what a boyfriend is? I wanna see if he refers to ‘a boyfriend’ or ‘being a boyfriend’ basically🙏🙏

It’s not clearly singular or plural, and he’s really just speaking like he’s defining the word in question. I’ll translate the pages (but I sure hope you don’t regret this).

Part 2 of a brain dump on characters I’ve been writing out while waiting for the train this week. Trains have been delayed lately, so I get an extra 30 minutes. This one’s about Redestro and some relationships with him and such. Shortened for your dash convenience.

Shifting gears to a different manga/anime, on to Bnha and Redestro. Ohhh where do I start with this man? This basket case man? I ship him with Shigaraki because yes, it also fits in with my favorite ‘opposites attract’ deal. Goth other-worldly punk looks like he crawled out of the grave next to a repressed, depressed, older businessman. They’re both villains. Their dynamic is just really tasty - two obviously fucked up people in a unconventional give/take relationship. The total 180 Rikiya does after his defeat to Shigaraki — I’ve said it before but I have no other way to put it— Rikiya sped run enemies to lovers in record time. Literally had a ‘doki-doki’ freak out mid life or death battle. Rikiya is head over heels devoted to the guy who took his legs. Sees Shigaraki as the one who ‘liberated’ him from his burden of carrying the original Destros legacy. They’re both so sane.

I adore the head-cannon that Rikiya was involved with Trumpet on a much more personal level in the past. Trumpet seems to be the closest to Rd of Rikiyas top brass. ( Geten I would argue next but that’s a different kind of close. Not close enough to be father-son but not so distant as teacher-pupil? Geten clearly only respects one man and one man only and its Rd. ) Trumpet is seen not far from Rikiyas side after their defeat at Deika city. When Rikiya displays submissive brown-nosing tendencies to Shigaraki, this appears to be a pattern Trumpet recognizes as he says internally he: ‘didn’t want to see him like this.’ I also adore the head-cannon that Trumpet has known Rikiya since they were young, they went to university together and is sort of a ‘look out’ or watchdog over Rikiya during RDs entire life. ( For the MLA Elders or not ) Not that Trumpet doesn’t care deeply about Rikiya, but as I also like to imagine he grew up on the Destro’s ideology diet as a loyal follower, he’s not immune to viewing Rikiya through that lense. The lense the MLA followers see Rikiya with as being the physical manifestation of og Destros will and the only living carrier of og Destros bloodline. So of course, I adore the head-cannon that Rikiya broke it off with Trumpet simply because he realized that yes, Trumpet was also a devout follower of Destros will. Leaving RD wondering due to his position and bloodline, would Trumpet ever refuse him or if Trumpets feelings for him were influenced by these factors. So going by these head cannons, I enjoy that it’s a sensitive issue that passes between the two of them- an elephant in the room they’ve learned to recognize and ignore. Maybe nudge it gently when it’s in the way, but nothing more. They care about and look out for one another, but a bridge has been burned. So they kinda watch one another, with their hands in their pockets, from opposite sides.

This is where Shigaraki comes in. Tomura is totally untouched by the cult code the MLA has fostered. He doesn’t care who Rd is. He doesn’t care about his bloodline tying him back to one of the most infamous villain figures in history. So one thing Rikiya can count on - is Tomura is unbiased and unprejudiced against him. It’s probably immensely refreshing to Rd to not be hailed as Destros blood. It’s alien - Shigaraki is alien to him, what with Rikiya living such a rigid, inexorable lifestyle. (Seems to counter with his whole message of liberation doesn't it? Rikiyas not very free himself.) The two are opposites: Rd speaks very politely and formally, using ‘Watashi’ to refer to himself. Shigaraki speaks rudely, using ‘Ore’ to refer to himself. Tomura is younger, ambitious and unpredictable. Rikiya is older, more experienced and self restrained. Tomura doesn’t have a record of being ‘nice.’ But I think ‘nice’ and ‘genuine’ don’t intersect. And I think Tomura is straightforward. Tomura has shown the ability to recognize and consider his comrades. I’d like to hope he can recognize Rd as a comrade now. Rikiya is certainly devoted enough to Tomura. Rd let’s those same bone thin fingers that took his legs touch him anyway they want because he’s quite willing to have choice taken away from him, the choice of his life or death, and put it into the hands of this young man now. For once, Rikiyas not carrying the overbearing responsibility of choice, even with his own life. His own life that has always been second and willingly able to be sacrificed to the cause. Remember, this is a man that made and designed his own high tech iron maiden mech suit that impales and constricts his body to provide physical stress stimulus when mental or emotional stress isn’t enough to wring every last bit of power out of himself for the cause. The guy who his clone in the manga when he narrated the scene, seemed oddly ok, even relieved, with his very temporary existence and accepting of his own demise.

And as much as I enjoy portraying Shigaraki as an entity of death, decay and rebirth, I find it so ironic that he didn’t kill Rikiya when he submitted his life to Tomura. That Shigaraki decided: nah, you’re going to live. You can’t rest yet. There’s too much that needs to be done and you’re going to help me now.

I could also talk about how I’m weak for other stuff in their dynamic - Shigaraki being able to push this guy around ( no matter his size or strength, and Rikiya can accumulate both to titan amounts. You should know what I am by now. ) with no effort at all. A guiding push is all Shigaraki would need to use. I’d like to think Rikiya is glad Tomura kept him, and Tomura doesn't regret doing so. (Giving credit where credit’s due, previously mentioned head-canon’s on Trumpet and Rd originated from Stillness-in-green. Good takes and good fic from Stillness, really good stuff. )
