i just feel have not seen a single post/tweet/etc about taika waititi or love and thunder that has felt normal or like a reasonable/proportional response to the film. (this post got way too long and i feel embarrassed and cringe about it so its going under a cut)

i see a tweet criticizing him for poking fun at the cgi in a clip used as promo, and like, okay the phrasing of the tweet kind of exaggerates how cruel he is being (about a character that he literally plays), but the points being made about how vfx artists are overworked and underpaid is absolutely true. but the tweet is made by a zack snyder stan account positioning taika waititi himself as the poster boy of the MCU and the symbol of the companies treatment of vfx artists as a whole. which is weird. i think.

i see a post on here about the same clip, half the notes are diehard loki stans who already view taika as the devil incarnate because he “disrespected” their baby boy in ragnarok talking about how hes an asshole and they hate him because he has a huge ego etc etc. and more posts using these moments as the core basis to talk about the MCU and why its bad as a whole and i just. since when was he the face of the MCU?? i know he made the movie that most recently came out but i am just.

we KNOW that the directors barely play a role in these films we all reblogged that article about how half the movie is made - not just written, but literally the scenes have been created digitally etc - before the director even signs on and we KNOW ragnarok is an outlier (and from what i hear this film is more standard MCU fare, though i also hear it reads like a kind of parody of that, which i could absolutely believe, but i need to see it for myself ofc). but suddenly when its a guy we’ve decided needs to get taken down a peg its ONLY his fault?

 like obviously i like taika waititi a lot i have Feelings for him and also i like his work!!!! but the point of this post isnt to be like omg defending taika online isnt enough i need a sword im just like. why do i need to defend him?? what did he do??? he clearly doesnt give a shit about marvel like i think thats what it comes down to at the end of the day. marvel movies will never be truly good no matter who makes them so he made a(n apparently) bad movie and got his paycheck. obviously i don’t actually know him or his motivations etc etc and im not going to die on the hill of defending a fucking marvel director or whatever but the intensity of the backlash just feels. genuinely weird to me.

Okay lets analyse this one for realsies. Im gonna go through each character in this tweet and go through reasons why i think they either would or would not be crying first, then im gonna put them in order of who survives the roast sesh.... join me on this wonderous journey.

Let's start with Atsumu.... where to even fucking begin. sorry to the Atsumu haters but i truly believe he would not be crying first. First of all he has known Osamu since he was born and while Osamu is the "nice twin" the bar is truly in hell and that motherfucker is mean to one person and one person only and that person is his twin brother Atsumu. This mfer has been conditioned since birth to roast and be roasted. Not only that but this guy was CANONICALLY hated by everyone in his middle school, and his only reaction to that information was "So?" HE DOES NOT CARREEEE. And, I will say, while the other characters shown here are bitchy, they usually target people in petty ways that make fun of their skills (with the exception of Daisho who would probs call Atsumu a single loser but he'd likely just get annoyed by that not cry) and Atsumu knows that his skills are too good for anything they say to hold weight., He has the ego the size of the fucking gym. he's fine.

TSUKISHIMA on the other hand.... dare i say it not the strongest contender ... I dont think FIRST. but this guy is wayyyy more sensitive to criticism than people generally give him credit for. LIKE YES BEFORE YOU JUMP DOWN MY THROAT, he absolutely has the whole "keep booing me it only makes me stronger" thing going on in the Inarizaki game BUT YOU FORGET SO QUICKLY how absolutely insecure this guy is. until yamaguchi kicked his ass into gear in the training camp, he was of the impression that trying to get better at something he enjoyed was fruitless because there was always going to be someone better than him. Someone insightful like Oikawa or Atsumu would def be able to pick up on that insecurity and target him for it. I think his strongest talent is of course provoking people so much that they cant see how much they're affecting him, so he gets a lot of points for pettiness that would keep him from crying first because theres no way he's gonna LOSEEEE to someone like Daisho or Oikawa. BONUS POINTS on his behalf though is he was the only one on the team at the end of season one who WASNT CRYING about their loss. And i think the only one on karasuno who we havent seen cry (as far as i can remember).

Now listen.... fanon Oikawa is for sure crying first because for some bizzare reason people characterise him as a pushover twink. Canon Oikawa told USHIJIMA to remember his worthless pride so he could crush him in the future. like... he's kind of taking names a little. i'll allow him a small slay for his efforts of being a bitch to Ushijima. Oikawa is SMARTTTT and has a lot of emotional intelligence, so can for sure target people's insecurities with pinpoint accuracy. He doesnt get SUPER easily riled up when he's "in the zone" and only lashes out when he's backed into a corner. he hangs out with what is probably a team of people scientifically designed in a lab to HUMBLE HIM DAILY, so he has built up somewhat immunity to being insulted and targeted for bully behaviour. LOSES TREMENDOUS AMOUNTS OF POINTS for being kind of a sore loser and someone who FOR SURE cries when angry or frustrated.

Daisho.... why is he even here (sorry to those who love him). Listen... this guy is petty, and he lowkey cheats, and he takes immense joy in riling people up for shits and gigs... BUT WHYYY IS HE HERE LMAOOOO. to be honest, i dont think he would cry first purely for the fact that he doesnt know these other guys well enough to really gaf about what theyre saying to him. on the other hand, that makes him kind of an easy target because he's so irrelevant to these other guys lives that they could probably make him feel like shit for that reason only. he gets bonus points for being the only one in a canonical relationship (oikawas girlfriend we never meet that he broke up with doesnt count, in fact it loses him points).

WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID. the final order i think is, Oikawa goes out crying first, not because he's upset but because he got sooo fucking mad at Atsumu's unbothered behaviour he had to leave and he was angry crying while doing it. Daisho is next because Tsukishima said some shit like "bro who even are you lmaooo irrelevant ass" and he remembered he sucks at volleyball and got upset, he's okay tho bc his gf is there to comfort him. Atsumu cries next but not because of anything Tsukishima says, he just gets so fucking bored of Tsukishima not giving him interesting reactions to his jabs that he starts doing weird shit like standing on his head and he ends up hurting himself and crying because he is a big baby. Tsukishima is the last one standing .

That is of course assuming that Oikawa doesnt kill them all first with his Super Triple Homo Spin Serve that killed all of Karasuno. People forget so quickly that he is the most diabolical anime villain of all time...

The sound of my fists hitting the punching bag resounded throughout the room, a loud thwack echoing over and over. Regrettably, even as late as it was, this was the best way I could distract myself from him. Bucky fucking Barnes. Everyday he pissed me off, criticizing me over every little thing, he'd make the rudest remarks, and still having the audacity to be cold and unfeeling whenever I said something back. God how I hated him. But part of me always asked, did I really though?

I shook that thought out, as I kept hitting the bag, pouring the weeks of frustration I felt into every blow. Frankly I was determined to knock the whole damn thing across the room, but I was interrupted abruptly by an all too familiar voice behind me.

"You know your form is all wrong right?" Bucky said, his tone ever so slightly condescending.

"It works just fine for me," I retorted, whipping around to face him, "unless you'd rather I demonstrate on you, leave me alone and mind your own business for once."

My remark evidently didn't faze him, as he stepped closer to me, us nearly nose to nose with each other.

"You wouldn't dare," he growled, his voice low and his eyes cold.

"Oh yes I would," I spat, feeling a strange mixture of anger and annoyance bubbling up, and maybe, just maybe a slight hint of something else entirely.

"Let's see it then"

"Bring it on old man"

I slid under the wires that boxed in the fighting ring, but I wrapped my hands quickly and stood opposite of Bucky, my fists raised, prepared. Bucky made the first punch, and soon it was like a dance. Dodges, punches, kicks, anything to win. But it all happened so fast, I barely had time to register exactly what happened, before I was flat on my back. My arms pinned to my chest, with Bucky kneeling over me. He leaned himself foward, mere inches away from each other.

"Give up yet doll?" he whispered, his voice low.

Why do I feel this way? I thought I hated him, I was supposed to. So why did I feel anything but hate?

I looked up at him, and I did something I never could have seen myself doing. I kissed him. After the initial surprise, he kissed me back. He kissed me back. He let go of my hands and slipped them around my neck, kissing me full of fervor and passion. I wrapped my hands around his neck in the same manner he did, and we pulled back, breathing heavily.

"You don't even know how many times I've thought of doing that," Bucky said breathily, a smirk on his face.

I smiled at him and just as fast as I ended up on my back, I had put him on his. I smiled at him, his arms already pinned to his chest.

Anon imma give you my biggest secrets to fanfic writing, the ones that have carried me thru 15+ years of fic writing, of unwanted critics, of haters, and of little to no attention to my fics.

1) this is the most important one: write what makes YOU happy. Writing fanfic is a hobby and it should spark joy. It should make you happy. If this means you’re taking the big bad of the series and turning him into a baby that the heroes have to raise? Go for it. If it means a villain is your meow meow and you’re gonna rewrite the story to make him a good guy? Go for it. Whatever makes YOU happy. Because in the end, you are writing for yourself and for you to have fun. Yes validation is nice, but—

2) —but it’s not the end all, be all. It’s always so so sooooo good when people comment on your fics and leave you reviews and go nuts for your work. But I write for dead or niche fandoms and I rarely get attention on any of my work. And I made peace with that. You need to make peace with that. Validation is nice, but kudo/comments/hits are not the goal here: you having fun is.

3) ignore the haters. There are SO many gatekeepers in fandoms nowadays that it sucks the fun and joy out of life. Block them, don’t even reply, just block them. AO3 has mute and block buttons. Use them. And if they are extra rude? Report them. In the old days, we used to say “flames will be used to warm cold feet” which translates to “your hate is less than dirt” (flames here being haters and unwanted criticisms). It still applies.

4) this one is optional but: find like minded people! People who’d enjoy your work! People who you love discussing ideas with! It goes a long way to give motivation!

5) this one is hella important: it’s not ooc if it’s an au!! :) A person growing up in a war zone is gonna have very different experiences than a person growing up with parents who run a coffee shop and will have a different experience to growing up in an orphanage etc etc. and all of these things WILL affect a person’s behavior and will change how they interact with the world. Even if all those three scenarios had the same trauma (i.e. a fire), each one would react differently and would lose different things, which again, affects how they’d act.

6) BE ooc!! DO IT. Why? Because NO ONE is gonna write the character as “ic”’as the original writers/creators. The character in your head is different than the character in another person’s head, and in another’s, and so on. This is because our own lives and experiences affect the way we interact with the world—and fictional works. And working super hard to please the public means that someone out there will always go “that’s ooc how dare you.” You can never please everyone, remember that!

6.5) but also: write crackfic. It will help you break out of the fear of oocness so much. Even if you don’t write them, have crackfic ideas. They’re so good for your soul—humor is so good and cringe is dead.

7) and this is hella important: Anon you are human. Humans make mistakes. We fuck up. It’s how we learn and grow. And NO ONE was born perfect. Writing takes practice. Writing in character takes practice for every new character you write! It’s not easy! But you gotta trust yourself and your writing skills, and that requires practice too! Practice practice practice!!

So, TL;DR: Do what you want. Do what makes you happy. You are not being paid for this, and if people don’t like your writing, they can pay you to write exactly what they want. And fuck up as much as it takes for you to feel satisfied with the pieces your working with. And most important—aus and oocness go hand in hand.

What was this? He was crying, but what for? Was it because of his own selfish needs? “It’s all my fault…” [Name] whisper while looking down at the hospital bed sheet not knowing that his two brothers were awake. “[Name]! You’re awake! Souya said while rushing to his brothers side.

“You’re a idiot! A huge dumb idiot!” Nahoya scolded. “You almost died!” Souya yelled at his brother. “You had internal bleeding! And you were in critical condition! You had us worried!” Nahoya said while tears appeared in his eyes. “I…” Was all [Name] could force to come out as a lump appeared in his throat. “I’m…” He said continuing to struggle with his words.

“I’M SORRY!” [Name] said as tears ran down his eyes. He hated making his brothers worried, most of all, he hated them sad and cry. “I-I didn’t mean too!” [Name] choked out as he cried in his brothers arms. “Well at least you’re okay, thats all that matters.” Souya said reassuringly.

“He’s right, we may be extremely mad at you but god knows what would’ve happened if you died on us!” Nahoya said while chuckling a bit. “Destruction would happen! The end of the world!” [Name] said jokingly as he softly punched Nahoya in the arm. “Shit that hurt!” [Name] said quickly regretting his actions.

“It’s getting late so we’re gonna head out soon kay?” Souya said. “Alright! One more thing, you two really should get used to me almost dying! It’s a usual occurrence!” [Name] said while giving his brothers a warm but fake smile.

Now the Kawata brothers were no dumbasses to their lil bros feelings. “Don’t give us that fake smile [Name]. We’ll protect you from now on so you won’t ever have to be through life and death again.” His brothers said seriously.

“Oh…” [Name] said, he didn’t know he was crying. “It’s alright [Name].” Souya said while wiping his tears with a tissue. “I’m glad you two said that. Really!” [Name] said with a genuine smile. “Now that’s what we like to see!” Nahoya said while pinching his brothers cheeks making him laugh even more.

“Good night [Name].” Nahoya and Souya said as they headed out the door. “Night!” [Name] Said as he waved goodbye.

“I swear we’re gonna protect him at all cost.” Nahoya said.

Unpopular opinion of the ROR fandom, I don't like that they pair gods with humans, don't get me wrong, I don't hate people who pair them but I don't really see the point. ☠️

An example is with TetonPosy (my favorite 🥰), I don't like Poseidon x Kojiro, seriously, I don't like it, unfortunately for me the fandom in Spanish (I don't know if the same thing happens in the English one), almost always (if not always) they pair it with Kojiro. Oh god, not Jonathan Stans saying Steve S.A Nancy in season one.

I want to pretend I haven't read it cause, I mean, I can understand to dislike a character, it's totally normal, but talking about important topics in that way just to show that a loved character is not that good its childish and so unrespecful and actually hurts the victims. Educate yourself before talking bullshit, also you don't need to invent something that never happened, Steve has done so many questionable things in S1 you can use them to prove your point.

If you want to analyze a show, do it the right way, thinking critically doesn't mean seeing things that don't exist (and Im not talking about headcanons, we all have ours and that beautiful) for your stupid ships war which doesn't even make sense. Thinking critically means understand the subtext under what is shown. And this idea of Steve being a sex criminal is not even an acceptable headcanon, it's just a stupid way to make him the bad guy cause you can't stand him. I can't stand Jonathan at some point (and I don't even ship Stancy) but it would be stupid of me saying he is bad, cause he is not. He has done something wrong during the show? Yes, sometimes he did just like everybody (Hop, Nancy, Joyce, and totally STEVE for example) but still he is just a teenager with so many trauma on his back, under pressure, whose mother (who I love too) always give him too many responsibilities and I respect that and I would never dare to treat him like a bad guy. That's critical thinking. I don't really like him but I try to understand the character.

Also you forgive Billy ( I mean Billy come on!) and Steve is just a bad guy with pretty privilege? How can you say something like that, I mean it's so stupid. So fucking stupid. forgive me if the question was rhetorical, but in totk link doesn't have to dress up as a girl to get in gerudo town anymore. i dont think the gerudo that sells you the girl outfit is seen in the game this time? not to my knowledge, anyways. link is recognised in gerudo town as the dude who saved everyone and is a close friend of riju's, and so is the only man allowed in. i haven't even seen the girl outfit in totk, but maybe thats just me, so take it with a pinch of salt

I'm still trying to figure out how much I should dare to hope that Marinette in "Multiplication" is gonna show self reflection while talking to Alya about Miraculous related stuff and begin to have it dawn on her that Chat should FINALLY please be released out of his obliviousness regarding the whole Alya/Rena fiasco in s4.

I can totally give "Evolution" a free pass in this regard, of course, but from "Multiplication" onwards her continuing to benefit from keeping that offense secret from Chat while he is being a picture perfect partner, when Monarque literally knows and Marinette and Alya knowing that he knows, is a fair complaint for me to criticize.

Like, I'm not asking for alot. Even if it's just the set up and realization that she doesn't have to fear loosing him over this and that while it'll be a big pill to swallow for him to find out HOW MUCH went on behind his back, nothing is lost and unfixable as long as she (and Alya ideally) finally let him in so now that Monarque knows about Alya anyway Chat can benefit from having Alya on their side too.

Remember him visiting Alyas balcony in "Rocketear"? Yeah, Adrien FINALLY having a person he can talk about Miraculous related stuff too like this would be beautiful and who better for this than Alya so that they are not only an actual TEAM of three but Alya can help and support both of them to fix their bond for good.

Of course I'm not asking for this to happen in the very next episode, but if we could at least have the beginning seeds of a development like this for s5 then I'm happy enough for the moment.

If we don't get anything like this at all though and the message here is really gonna be that Marinette is entitled to screw Chat Noir over like that and leave him out of a support system he desperately needs since, officially (so Luka doesn't count), there is STILL no one who knows his identity or someone he can at least TALK TO transformed in case he would ever need help, then im gonna continue ripping into this show.

Saw your latest post and I just want to add that the people who do ship Charlie/Du'met are some of the most toxic people I've seen in SMG fandom. So there is a chance I might just not answer with pictures, but with text. I will answer with my AU'S headcanons. Please do not criticize me on my AU! Scrapped Sun:

Basically the first prototype of Sun's design, he was scrapped away because he malfunctioned while playtime with the kids, and they made a brand new Sun design, the one we know today. He's usually found backstage or in parts & services. He's part of the scrapped squad. He has a phobia for any physical contact, hugs specifically, so he'll freak out if you try anything (expect for tickles, he's okay with that. It still takes him by surprise sometimes, tho)

BloodMoon:

Basically a version of Moon that got planted into Moon's code when the virus first took over Moon. Ever since the virus was removed, Nobody has actually gotten the chance to see him, as he was always deactivated. He can get out of control easily, and perform violence towards others (this got fixed later on). Higher-ups didn't even try to remove the bug in Moon's code, because removing his virus was already hard enough. he's even more violent then Eclipse, so whenever he takes control, make sure to have him secured. He's basically an alternative personality of Moon, like Lunar first was, before the both of them got separated into separate bodies.

Solar:

A way more violent version of Sun, that hates EVERYTHING. he's basically like Eclipse, but tends to show violence way more easier, just like Bloodmoon. Solar was originally not even meant to exist, but was formed into Sun's code when the virus affected Moon. At first, both of them didn't think much of it, because they thought it hadn't affected Sun. But boy they thought wrong. Solar had been there ever since the virus first took over Moon, he just never had the chance to show himself before or gain control because during the day, Sun & Moon were still in 1 body, so it was way harder to take control of 2 at once. Especially when one had a virus already controlling them.

Saturn:

A scrapped female animatronic that was 1 daycare Attendant before Sun & Moon came along. She was scrapped and thrown into parts & services because the higher-ups thought it would be way more efficient to upgrade 2 animatronics in 1 body. Ever since then, Saturn had been lying there, in parts and services, destined to rot away. Until one of the staff members found her, fixed her up and took her back to the daycare. Ever since then, she's been helping Sun & Moon around the daycare, and because she was technically created way more early then they were, Both Sun & Moon see Saturn as their older sister.

Venus:

Sun, Moon & Saturn's younger brother. He was designed to take care of children under 3, So Sun could deal with those older energetic fluff balls all day long. Venus is actually pretty good at his job, and has a music box installed inside of him that is supposed to keep children calm. And damn right it does, even Sun & Moon can easily fall asleep with that tone constantly ringing in their ears.

Now for my human OC's!

Charlie Lin:

One of my main FNAF fanmade OC's for security Breach. Charlie is a (new) nightguard at the Plex. He is friends with Sapphire (best friends actually). Charlie's parents went missing, only for him to be left alone with his newborn sister at the age of 14. Charlie is now 20, and his little sister, Hizoki, is 6. Charlie is dealing with severe anxiety and stress problems, due to his situation with his sister. He works a part-time daily job at a local coffee shop to earn little more money for him and his sister to survive in the already small apartment they live in. Charlie has been diagnosed with Autism, and Social Anxiety. This is often the reason why he doesn't interact with people much. He needs to take medication, 5 times a day (24 hours). If he doesn't, he'll get a panic attack or get overwhelmed very easily. He doesn't have the greatest relationship with his little sister, because Hizoki blames him for their parent's disappearance. Like I said, Hizoki was a newborn at the time, and of course didn't know what had really happened. Even Charlie doesn't know, it was way too long ago to recall what he'd seen and heard. All that he has left is his little sister, and he'll protect her to no costs.

Sapphire Brown:

Charlie's best friend and one of the main well-known night guards. Also a higher-up, like Vanessa. Sapphire is dealing with the same anxiety and stress problems as Charlie, the only difference is that Charlie developed it from a rather young age til now. Sapphire developed it later on, in a toxic relationship she was in. Sapphire also needs to take medication, but that's because she's diagnosed with ADD, a disorder that's just like ADHD, but instead affects the mind and brain itself. She only needs to take it 3 times a day, however. Sapphire is now 21, a year older then Charlie, and they both met in primary school, and ever since then basically grew up together. Sapphire has a girlfriend, Jesse, but she moved out of town 10 years ago due to her needing to go with her parents, cause her parents owned a huge business company. Both Charlie and Sapphire were emotionally attached to her, especially Sapphire since the two were dating. Sapphire is a higher-up that usually stays in the daycare, and works day & nightshifts. She's the main guard of the daycare, besides Sun & Moon that are there for not only the children, but also guarding the daycare itself.

Hizoki Lin:

Hizoki is Charlie's little sister, as said before. Hizoki dislikes her brother very much, but doesn't hate him. After all, Hizoki is the only thing Charlie has left, And Charlie is all that Hizoki has left. So they'll have to survive together. Hizoki is only 6, and cannot stay home during the night- or day shifts of Charlie, so Charlie usually takes her to the daycare where he knows she'll be safe. Hizoki can perform quite the attitude, but she learned all that from Moon. Hizoki can be a literal DEMON. She's obsessed with space, specifically, the moon, stars & the other planets around earth. She wears a hair clip that she got from her brother when she was 4, and still treasures it to this day.

i got your ask and i loved it! maybe the seasonal knightfall symbolism was the stuff we made up along the way.

i also wanted to say its so funny (terrible) to me how the idea that sometimes a character doesnt need romance (which i think is fine on its own! i think w/eiss is more empowered by rebuilding her existing family and having friends than she would be with a romantic interest for example) has been twisted so fucking awfully into "any female character i dont want to be happy/i think is getting in the way of my ship/is evil/etc doesnt need romance because she's powerful enough as it is :) im not misogynistic i just want women to be empowered!" im gonna start doing this with male characters actually. cmon guys s/un is cool amd strong enough as it is he doesn't need a love interest :)!! if the writers give him one its just ridiculous 🙄🙄

i just hate seeing people use good points to be fucking annoying to people who like things. i want cinder and salem and every bad evil naughty no good villain woman to get a romance now. and the men can too i guess 🙄🙄 (JOKING they need kisses too. looking at you merc)

You make excellent points. I think the case with Weiss, though, is that it is actually a textual interpretation of her character, and her parallel with Qrow (her team S/TRQ analogue) is that their character arcs are largely connected to repairing familial relations (and their respective team partner Ruby-Summer). Weiss also gets a different play on Ozlem in her own story (as you pointed out she's almost an even split of their respective roles) which I think is partly being done to show how part of the weakness, say, both Ozlem have is that they don't have supportive, broader connections; Knightfall is the connective tissue, yes, but I do think Cinder being accepted back into the community (... dare I say with the elixir of life) is part of the key to her redemption holistically. But it's ultimately a cop out, otherwise, when this argument is employed, because as you can see it's not about Cinder's character or Cinder's desires.

The problem also here is that Cinder has no friends or family. The overtures of 'friendship' has failured her. How can an orphan have the same character arc as Weiss? It's just nonsensical. Romance for her has been set up as the answer. It has not been dismissed, not at all. Calculatedly so there is a gap in her narrative waiting to be filled.

Lol ikr like come on. Make way boys. Then again I've literally seen people say this about Jaune, but Jaune's a special case because he's a victim of being the wrong sort of male character since he has a unique superpower and is my favourite and I am being persecuted in particular.

I mean, it's not even really a feminist talking point though, that's the problem, or if it is it's severely misunderstanding the literature. The problem itself is not romantic love, it's a female character being unable to grow beyond that or have her own character. Where I think a real issue is, is so often what we call 'romance' is little more than narrative boon. Narrative boon is itself not the problem: but she acts as a doll-prize, with no crafted character arc, with no justification, with no anything. The romance is not servicing the narrative.

So it's a genre problem.

If anything the argument here I defer to is one of technical weakness, as opposed to simple gender criticism, because I think if you can't write female characters you cannot write holistic characters (and this goes for everyone else). What I think is a serious issue that is overshadowed by discussing fiction as opposed to our actual lives is, you know, what is the role of romance in our own lives? How do we build our lives around it? How do we celebrate reciprocal love? One might say that the objectified portrayal of women in these types of objectified romances comes from the idea that women's needs, desires, and wants are ultimately accessory. The desire is not for reciprocal romance. This is exactly why anons who are bad-faith arguing with me cannot conceive of Knightfall because they don't know what romance actually is. (Take note of the sense of owedness in some of the bad faith anons; this sense that love is transactional, that love is something you are owed, not a gift that is shared, that it is something that is kept as punishment).

Or, were I not arguing from the angle of critical cultural reflection, I might just say they don't... know how to write interrelated character growth that so happens to involve romance. But they do that fine enough in buddy cop shows and film - which is probably the most structurally analogous to romance - so there's something deeper going on here.

In Weiss' case there is a deliberate theme of her Summon - her own familial Semblance - being the one to 'free' her, along with her friends. Given the fact that we have so many other romances that seem inevitable, tying her emotional development - GIVING her that emotional development, not abnegating her - to her family is actually really successful. It means that Weiss can have love central in her life, different types of love, and it gives you narrative space to explore why romantic love is meaningful. It's possible to do with an ensemble cast.

In Cinder's case, romantic love is what's needed. It's got to be one person in particular who can help her. Not just anyone. It's got to be epic and no holds-barred. If anyone could help her, why didn't it happen sooner?
