Anon imma give you my biggest secrets to fanfic writing, the ones that have carried me thru 15+ years of fic writing, of unwanted critics, of haters, and of little to no attention to my fics.

1) this is the most important one: write what makes YOU happy. Writing fanfic is a hobby and it should spark joy. It should make you happy. If this means you’re taking the big bad of the series and turning him into a baby that the heroes have to raise? Go for it. If it means a villain is your meow meow and you’re gonna rewrite the story to make him a good guy? Go for it. Whatever makes YOU happy. Because in the end, you are writing for yourself and for you to have fun. Yes validation is nice, but—

2) —but it’s not the end all, be all. It’s always so so sooooo good when people comment on your fics and leave you reviews and go nuts for your work. But I write for dead or niche fandoms and I rarely get attention on any of my work. And I made peace with that. You need to make peace with that. Validation is nice, but kudo/comments/hits are not the goal here: you having fun is.

3) ignore the haters. There are SO many gatekeepers in fandoms nowadays that it sucks the fun and joy out of life. Block them, don’t even reply, just block them. AO3 has mute and block buttons. Use them. And if they are extra rude? Report them. In the old days, we used to say “flames will be used to warm cold feet” which translates to “your hate is less than dirt” (flames here being haters and unwanted criticisms). It still applies.

4) this one is optional but: find like minded people! People who’d enjoy your work! People who you love discussing ideas with! It goes a long way to give motivation!

5) this one is hella important: it’s not ooc if it’s an au!! :) A person growing up in a war zone is gonna have very different experiences than a person growing up with parents who run a coffee shop and will have a different experience to growing up in an orphanage etc etc. and all of these things WILL affect a person’s behavior and will change how they interact with the world. Even if all those three scenarios had the same trauma (i.e. a fire), each one would react differently and would lose different things, which again, affects how they’d act.

6) BE ooc!! DO IT. Why? Because NO ONE is gonna write the character as “ic”’as the original writers/creators. The character in your head is different than the character in another person’s head, and in another’s, and so on. This is because our own lives and experiences affect the way we interact with the world—and fictional works. And working super hard to please the public means that someone out there will always go “that’s ooc how dare you.” You can never please everyone, remember that!

6.5) but also: write crackfic. It will help you break out of the fear of oocness so much. Even if you don’t write them, have crackfic ideas. They’re so good for your soul—humor is so good and cringe is dead.

7) and this is hella important: Anon you are human. Humans make mistakes. We fuck up. It’s how we learn and grow. And NO ONE was born perfect. Writing takes practice. Writing in character takes practice for every new character you write! It’s not easy! But you gotta trust yourself and your writing skills, and that requires practice too! Practice practice practice!!

So, TL;DR: Do what you want. Do what makes you happy. You are not being paid for this, and if people don’t like your writing, they can pay you to write exactly what they want. And fuck up as much as it takes for you to feel satisfied with the pieces your working with. And most important—aus and oocness go hand in hand.

I recently found out from this episode of the Rosie ‘O Donnel show that Kathleen Turner was supposed to voice and sing as Zira in The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.

And now I cannot unhear Zira singing My Lullaby in Jessica Rabbit’s voice:

Realized upon that hometown events' guest characters are those who are close with SSR card main characters. And I'm not saying because they are family or close friends.

Jamil - They could picked either of Jamil's parents yet decided upon Najma. Why? Because he and his parents' relationship are complicated and Najma is someone that he is close to the most and can be himself without worried about hierarchy. They even have typically sibling relationship where Najma mess with him but never outright cruel to him. (Love how she stole the shawarma)

Epel - Well Epel is a family man and he is close with each of the family relatives. I'm sure the reason it's Marja is because she is involved with the sled competition more than his family even looks like her the most (once he gets old). I mean it's hilarious how Idia fangirls Marja because she is inspiration of his favorite character.

Leona - they could have picked Farena since Cheka was already present but they picked Kifaji which is surprising given the last two are family members yet the guest character is the Twisted version of Zazu (but still interesting to have another twisted version of a Disney character). The reason is probably because he isn't close with Farena despite his brother caring about Leona that much but knowing his overblot backstory, he despise him since he is the heir and how people praise him while they badmouthed Leona. While Kifaji and Leona aren't really close, he is one of the few that Kifaji treated him well without discriminating him especially from the chess game. Kifaji is basically like a parent or an uncle to Leona and given Leona's family issues, he is close to someone than any of his family.

Deuce - knowing well about what he said about his mother, it's obvious that his mother is the guest character. Not to mentioned, the only person he is close to the most. Since he left the gang to leave a better life and how he treated everyone disrespectful and no known relatives except for his grandmother, his mother is closest person he has and how he'll do everything for his mother.

Vil - so far one of the two overblot boys (with Azul being the other one) are the ones without family problems (Idia seems to have caring parents but the family business is complicated for chapter 6 and 7 reasons). Obviously Vil will have his own father be the guest character because he is a great dad to Vil who doesn't abuse nor neglect him. Vil even talks proudly about his father.

So based on that, it's not just relationship towards the SSR but also how they are close to one another without ill-intentions nor trauma. So I have feeling the next hometown events will be similar to which the SSR closest to be the guest character.

Like for example, Azul's guest character could be his mother because he proudly talks about his mother and how he is happy that he married her divorce lawyer. I can picture tweels' guest character to be either their parents.

Now the only issues on who is closest to are the Lilia, Silver, Riddle's, Shroud brothers', and Malleus'.

Lilia and Silver are eachother's relatives and doesn't seem to have anyone they talk to outside of the family (Baul and Zigvolt don't really count especially when Baul ready debuted and felt they would be Sebek's guest characters). We already seen through the Shroud's parents and I doubt that Idia has someone close and Ortho is extroverted but I'm not sure what their hometown is like besides Styx. Do they have other children or anyone close to?

Malleus's family is complicated and we know about Senate. So he would likely have his grandmother.

Riddle for obvious reasons...

So this is just my speculation.

I believe it has been stated that the manga intentionally blacks out the face of Mrs. Rosehearts because she is viewed as the source of Riddle’s trauma. It keeps her in this shadowy, untouchable status and maintains the idea that the darkness of the past still impacts us in present day. I anticipate that this will hold and become the pattern for each OB boy’s flashback sequences. (We’ll soon see!)

If that’s the case for the manga, then it makes sense for the game to do something similar by purposefully keeping the faces of figures who play a significant role in each OB boy’s trauma a secret. That means likely no Mrs. Rosehearts, similar to how we did not meet the Viper parents in A Firelit Sky nor Farena/Falena in Tamashina Mina. However, some parents are clearly still fair game since they do have a good relationship with their son (Mrs. Ashengrotto and Azul, for example.). We see an example of this with Eric Venue showing up in Tapis Rouge.

It makes sense to meet family members whom the SSR boy has a good relationship with; running into a family member that stresses them out would kill the fun and easygoing vibes of the hometown event and would instead present an interpersonal issue that runs too deep to be resolved in a satisfying way before the event’s conclusion. Imagine a hometown event in which we have to stay over in Riddle’s home and we witness his parents fighting?? 😔 I don’t think that’s something that could be “fixed” in like 5 parts… Of course, not every family is perfect and that’s valid. It’s just not the scope or the perspective that TWST hometown events want or are equipped to deal with.

I feel like any of the Ocatrio’s family are pretty fair game? Despite how sketchy they are, Azul, Floyd, and Jade seem to be on good terms with all of their family members (well, maybe excluding Azul’s biological father) and learned many important things from them. I am, once again, asking TWST for a Coral Sea hometown event… 🤚 ✋ *holds out hands*

I’m sure that the characters who don’t have obvious family members to meet/yet to be revealed will have some other substitution? Probably a new character that’s twisted from another Disney character (similar to Kifaji). Maybe we’ll see a new noble fae that Lilia knows, Silver’s guardian fae that blessed him at birth, or prominent STYX staff (like maybe twisted Pain or Panic?).

For Malleus, his only living relative is his grandmother, sooo… I guess he’ll introduce us to the reigning monarch if he’s the SSR of a Briar Valley hometown event 😂 Malleus does what Leona won’t…

Last night's episode was so good! I missed Laudna, Ashton and Orym so bad and I am LOVING these new characters at the table!

I wasn't sure about Deni$e at first, but seeing her kick ass and being so nice to Orym and crew I'm starting to grow on her. She gives off that cool aunt/mom of the group vibe, keeping everyone in check. Her talk with Orym was kinda sweet and I can see her being the one who hugs him telling him he's doing good while strangling anyone who hurts him at the same time.

As far as Bor'dor, I love him! He is just a regular guy with the looks of Bruno Madrigal and the personality of a dog who is scared and needs a hug. I loved him being scared shitless of Lauda's form of dread and Pate. Him trying to shoot lightning at Denise when she snuck up on him? Priceless! He's also a Divine Soul Sorcerer, I looked it up because they are sorcerers that can heal, and even though everyone is saying they have no healers he's going to come in clutch with his healing spells. I feel like there's more to him than he's letting on, but maybe for a reason. The way he spoke of his mother leaving when he was young, being a simple farmer/ sheep herder, and the way he got these powers for no reason is very reminiscent of Imogen. What if he is Ruidusborn and doesn't know?

Prism Grimpoppy is so damn cute I love everything about her! Her design, her "doesn't go out much" librarian girl personality, her Zazu voice talking book, her raven familiar, her magic coming in clutch in that fight(three nat 20s guys!) I already see a ship between her and Bor'dor, just a hunch but we'll see. And she's a member of the Cobalt Soul?

That moment of Ashton comforting Laudna was so sweet and he made wonderful points. They may not be able to save the world, but they are enough to save their friends. And the whole dead bodies in the hole and making them talk running gag was hilarious!

Can't wait to see what these guys get into next few episodes!

I noticed that while the TWST students would all generally get along or at least tolerate their villain counterparts, the teachers would absolutely hate theirs.

Crewel also loves fashion, but absolutely adores dogs. The second he hears that Cruella tried to make a coat out of puppies (Dalmation puppies, his favorite breed), he's cursing her and poisoning her food. As an apology I see him coming over for tea with Anita, bringing dog treats, and teaching the couple how to make good dog sweaters for the winter.

Despite being strict, Trein loves his wife, daughters, and, presumabely, his step son. Even if he didn't, he wouldn't dream of abusing any of them the same way Lady Tremaine did to Cinderella. Not to mention, he would never let his daughters become as spoiled as Drisella and Anastasia. Plus, he radiates parental insticts and deeply cares for all his students (from what I hear, he vowed not to retire until Leona graduates). Trein probably wouldn't stand being in the same room as her. Meanwhile, I see him being very polite and taking a teacherly role for Cinderella. (bonus: what do you think the Lion King cast thinks when they here Trein's vow?)

Vargas would beat the absolute shit out of Gaston the second he opened his mouth. As exhasperated as he seems, Vargas never gives up on any of his students. While he may not entirely get his students interest when they're so different from his own, he doesn't ever criticize them and instead does his best to boost their confidence. Not to mention that to even be considered qualified as a non-magical PE teacher, he needs to have a lot of knowledge on different work out techniques, sports, health, body systems, etc. Vargas is basically an encyclopedia of workout and introductory health knowledge and I see him getting along fine with Belle (if encouraging her to put on some muscle). Vargas probably openly calls out Gaston for being a jerk and should Gaston target any of his students, the guy's gonna lose some teeth. This would go double if the Yuu in this scenario is a girl.

Oh yeah the teachers would be FURIOUS with their counterparts. They won't let them live down with it.

As to Crewel I imagine Anitas, Rogers and ofcourse the Dalmatiners being surpised to see that Crewel is nothing like Cruella, in a positive light ofcourse, so they definitly get along. Also Crewel bringing his dogs aswell and all of them just play togehter would be so wholesome 🥹

Trein just refuses to talk to Tremaine or her daughters. Maybe a lecture on how bad she is as a mother figure but thats it. I agree with you that Trein would act very kind to Cinderella since she didn't had a good upbringing due to Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella (yes I know that Cinderella had a kind father but he died when she was young)

As to the lion kings cast reaction to Treins Vow......well most of them would hope that Leona will be able to graduate even though they are a bit unsure due to Leonas behaviour. None of them say that ofcourse.........except Zazu who openly says that Trein better retire when he has to, even if Leona didn't graduate simce Leona will probably-

And at that moment scar tried to eat Zazu on how dare he say that.

Vargas doesn't need to know what Gaston did in the movie. He sees how Gaston acts and thats all he needs to know, that he is a bad influence. Yeah Vargas is pretty muscle focussed and what he did in the event "Vargas Camp" and the sequel to it, was pretty irresponsible of him to put it lightly, but atleast he has the best interest of the students at heart. Also yeah he doesn't let Gaston come near any of the students, and yeah if Yuu is a girl at that day he is being extra overprotective of them, since he saw how Gaston acts towards women.

I feel like I need to say something about the new way fandom has been “this female villain character has done nothing wrong!!!” because like. She’s a villain. She committed things that are objectively wrong, and that’s why she’s a villain.

There’s no shame about loving a villainous character. But, as the meme goes “I support women’s rights and women’s wrongs” because part of her charm is that she’s a villain. She did wrong things and that’s sexy of her. Did she have good reasons of doing them? Maybe! Maybe not! And you definitely don’t gotta agree with her in any of them! But she’s fictional!! Reducing her to “uwu too pure too good for this world” takes away her charm like. Love her. And her crimes. Don’t reduce her to purity. We’re already over saturated in the “chaste woman” department.

Like I get it if you’re doing a meme or something, but if you like a villainous woman and refuse to acknowledge her terrible crimes, then maybe liking villains isn’t for you.

“But! How can I make her likeable?” you ask? Angst!!! Let her face the horror of her crimes! Or “she’s horrible to everyone but her morality chain” trope. Or “even villains have loved ones” trope! Or just don’t redeem her and let her stay the fantastic villain she is!

But please, don’t take the villainy out of the villain. Don’t reduce her to purity. We’re already over saturated in the “chaste woman” department.

Let's face the fact that Wakanda Bucky is a dandere. He's soft and shy, and basically blushes if you talk to him

You'd be: A) This Wakandan person, whether native or adopted by SoMeOne, or B) You're this CIA agent who gets to tag along with Ross during the Wakanda-opens-up-to-the-world thing

The first time he saw you, he was pretty sure he was hallucinating or something, you looked...different than the Wakandans he met

He shows up with small excuses like 'Um...Zazu the guy from the coffee shop said you missed the coffee break, and I got it for you' and 'Shuri said you have to go back to the lab...you want me to come with you?'

It's adorable

But one night you accidentally hear him while having a nightmare, you were walking outside peacefully. And you heard him, of course, you're a good person. So you went over and woke him up.

And of course, Bucky is god damned embarrassed, and he doesn't sleep with his arm and shirt on.

But you're more worried about him than the arm and the shirt, you ask him a bunch of questions

"Are you okay Bucky?"

"Yeah...I'm fine, I'm fine"

As you start to leave the blurts out if you could stay with him. Which makes you stop in your tracks. He curses himself for talking and tries to apologize.

But you accept to his surprise. Why wouldn't you?

He doesn't have to wake up all night. Best sleep ever, and you KINDA cuddle.

It would be an awesome moment to just...say you both really like each other

It slips away

But! He does come to you when he has nightmares, and you come to him with problems. Ending up spending so much time together.

He can't ask you out, not now, he's afraid of scaring you away, you're his whole world.

But you LOVE him, not like him.

Bucky and you start getting closer, hugs get a bit more common, and he actualy kisses you one time, on the forehead, a surprise for both

Shuri literally is going to die, she's gonna resort to stalking

"JUST KISS ALREADY YOU TWO!"

Finally watched the Lion King 2019 remake because it was on TV and I wouldn't have to look for it, and now that I have seen it, I can finally judge it by myself instead of listening to everyone else's opinion.

It sucks.

I'm sure if you never watch the original movie before or after, it looks correct. After all, the CGi is amazing (Timon and Pumbaa were the highlight in term of animation honestly) and Hans Zimmer's score, despite the modifications, still feel amazing.

But on it's own it feels so...bland and unsubtle. For a movie trying to more realistic, so many dialogues and moments felt so heavy-handed. Sometimes I felt like watching the Lion Guard, when they have to spell out everything to the audience.

Except the Lion Guard's audience is TODDLERS, and even then it has many moments with surprising maturity and logic from such a show.

Meanwhile TLK 2019 has so many moments "As You Know" moments where the character explains something that everyone present should already know and not need reminding. Or characters seeing a thing and instead of showing their emotions, explicitly saying what's going on.

Most of the changed lines felt so...bland and generic. Something you would expect from any typical movie.

To give you an example : the aftermath of Mufasa's death.

In the original, when Scar finds Simba, he asks him "what have you done?" In a cold, judging voice. But when Simba starts to panic from the guilt, he takes a mask of false comfort and understanding. Of course Simba didn't mean it, no one could...yet the facts are here. The king is dead, and if Simba wasn't there, he would still be alive. He just states it, and let Simba draw the awful logical conclusion (that he caused his father's death) before he adds concerningly "what will your mother think?" Again, letting Simba draw by himself the conclusion. The audience is in Simba's place for a moment as they answer the same question ; what would their mother feel if they knew they caused their father's death ? It's such an awful thing to consider, it leaves Simba disoriented and ripe for Scar's manipulation and pretend help. The only solution is to run, far, and never face the consequences.

And in the 2019 movie...once Scar finds Simba, he doesn't give him time to think by himself. Beating him (and us the audience) over the head about how Mufasa had projects for him, that he gave so much to Simba, and this is how he thanks him ? He insists on how he killed the king, how Bad that is.

It feels so off tone. Simba doesn't care about what Mufasa has for projects for him, he is crying because his DAD died !!! He's not caring about the consequences of the king's death, he's a child who just faced the most horrible situation in his life !!!

And they keep doing it so many times ! Many scenes of Mufasa with Simba are originally here to show that while Mufasa is teaching his son about the responsibilities of the throne, he first and foremost cares about him as a FATHER. The 2019 movie keeps insisting again and again on Simba's role as a king or future king instead of a character! Why?? Why not show more of the king's duties then ?? The rare times 2019!Mufasa has king duties, it's glossed over or even shows him disrespectful of his subjects (Zazu's pouncing scene being an egregious example).

In comparison, the Lion Guard shows again and again *what* being a king entails for Simba and his family : duties, responsibilities, political meetings, protection, judgement, social work.

The Broadway musical added scenes of "slice of life" like the Hunt to show what the lions are up to when they're not talking about being king.

This is what infuriates me most about this movie. It's NOT the only adaptation of the Lion King. The Broadway musical also adapted faithfully the story. But the difference is :

They adapted to the medium. What fit a musical was kept, what didn't was changed. What was kept was tailored for a musical with dancing humans as the characters ; the most obvious example are the costumes.

What they changed, they did it with an understanding of the original material. The added songs fit the original African themes and make sense in context. They gave more importance to Simba's inner conflict with an arc about not finding his place and songs that completed this arc; they gave more room to Nala's own arc, emphasising her sisterhood with the lionesses, her bond with the land, and her conflict with Scar leading her to the heartbreaking Shadowland song, as her love for her land forces her to leave to find help.

The 2019 movie wants us to have the original movie in mind all the time. Yet when they try to be original, apart from a couple of scenes, it falls flat because it doesn't understand the point of the initial scene in the first place!!

It's genuinely infuriating! It could have had it's own identity by exploiting the "live action" aspect more ! But even the cinematography feels worse !

I knew I wasn't going to like this movie, but gosh, I feel all the more furious that we have a perfect example of a good adaptation right there !!

after the defeat of scar and jasiri becoming queen, she reformed and reconstructed the volcano. her clan (but mostly her) remade it into a more positive space where the outlanders could meet. jasiri makes everyone go to a mandatory summit there lmao

while she's working on it she tells all of the outlanders they can go there anytime to talk to her, but everyone's either too full of pride or don't know her well enough at that point to do so lol. eventually some of them suck it up. no matter the past, jasiri strives to become friends with all of them, not just their queen. she's sweet

i feel like after janja's clan joins jasiri's, janja might still want an important role, but boy does everyone know it's not gonna be lead hunter or anything lmao. i actually feel like he'd be a real good caretaker/pupsitter while most of the clan is out hunting, but he does enjoy patrolling around their territory and the outlands every now and then despite basically being banned from hunting lmao

i saw from a hc from a post once (can't find it atm) that mzingo joins jasiri and janja in hunting! i think that's cute because it's like a 'raven helping wolf for the benefit of both' dynamic. i love jasiri and mzingo's alliance/friendship so much. i'd even go as far to say what mzingo is to jasiri is a bit like what zazu is to simba, except mzingo still has his parliament to care for so he's not always around. but still

this one may be a tiny bit ooc... but i think it'd be so funny if jasiri forced the henchmen & goigoi to make a 'Sorry For Plotting To Eat You' party for thurston. it's funny bc he's still completely oblivious like, "but you DIDN'T eat me, right?" and they just choose not to remind him that the guard had to save him from them 💀 even funnier that it's barely a party and more of a formal apology yet he still has a good time

the skinks, ushari, sumu and kenge are their own friend group. they all say they hate one another, but they care about each other more than anyone :)

each of them used to live in different spots all over the outlands but then they all ended up living the cave(?) equivalent of Right Next Door, likely after scar was destroyed and the outlands reformed. njano is the sorta guy to walk into any of their homes uninvited in the middle of the night and ask if they're awake bc shupavu ain't gonna put up with her roommate's late night questions/antics lmao

since the crocs are... not the best at showing their true feelings, every month or so kiburi and his float bring a big catch to the other outlanders as a sign of their alliance... and also to show off a bit. for the hyenas, jackals and vultures who live primarily off of small things, it's like the equivalent of a massive turkey dinner. the crocs used to just Straight Up Leave as soon as they gave the food, but they're learning to stick around

in fact staying for those 'dinners' was how tamka came up with the idea to get something out of his passion for acting. he notices madoa, reirei and goigoi struggling with wema, tunu, dogo and kijana. he's like, "hey, wait... if we're bringin' them food for bein' nice... maybe i can get somethin' in return for entertaining the little ones!" and thus, from that day on, he became a pup sitter!

and you know what? he's actually really good at it! the pups can't tell/don't really care whether he's "acting" or not, cause tamka is the best climbing frame they've ever had in their LIFE. credit to @devilsrecreation once again for inspiring this, especially of tamka giving piggyback rides! i imagine nduli kinda gets in on the fun of entertaining the kiddos too while kiburi and neema glance at each other from the sidelines wondering how they got to this point of their float playing with pups 😭

i imagine at some point a river that runs the small amount of water that goes into the outlands suddenly stops, and jasiri brings like everyone with her to go find out what happened. most of them are pretty reluctant to leave the outlands at all, but they can't survive without the water for long, especially the crocs. so they're all forced on this big trip for their survival. i guess this would be the outlanders version of 'the journey to the tree of life'

in reference to this au, nduli leads the way as shenzi is guiding him! i like the idea that because the outlands are all kinds of animals- especially with a hyena in reign- he has the ability to see and talk to other species that are ghosts, or whatever mufasa is lol. ghost shenzi just shows up whenever she wants instead of nduli 'summoning' her and gives the most vague directions ever before she peaces out again. it drives nduli and jasiri into complete confusion and frustration about where the heck they're going lmao

also they're like halfway through the journey before janja even realises nduli is literally talking to his mom. it's probably a pretty bittersweet moment when nduli successfully summons shenzi so that she can talk to janja and the hyenas. banzai and ed greet them too :)

despite everyone's grumbles they get the water back, with many of them having to save one another from various perilous things, cuz bonding lol. i imagine they all get to put their skills to use too. also we all know the skinks would have to be saved the most cuz they're tiny little instigators

expect more of these. every time i think i'm done with all my ideas another one pops into my head lol

Any Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed headcanons for the AU???

Absolutely!

They're the janitorial team at Pride Rock Inc. They do a pretty good job, if not for the fact that they occasionally leave behind more mess than they pick up.

They have a great rapport with Scar. He's the one who got them their jobs in the first place, and manages to smooth-talk their continued employment whenever they pull off a particularly spectacular cleaning mishap.

Ed has a pretty amazing knowledge of solvents. Despite this (or perhaps because of this), he never says anything and communicates solely by giggling and pointing.

Banzai loves to gossip and will often eavesdrop on company meetings.

Shenzi is perpetually giving Scar makeup tips, eyeliner especially, and nags him to try them out. Zazu really wishes she wouldn't.
